Had their salmon wrap and peach tea. Both were good and under $12. Wrap was filled with more Spanish rice than I would have preferred. Overall the wrap tasted very good and it was steaming hot. Tea was iced and refreshing. Another time I got a chicken platter and the famous sweet potato cream cheese pie. Both were excellent! They have a couple of booths for eating in. TV is a nice addition to keep the guests entertained. Lady behind the counter was super nice and friendly both times. She was fast and good at multitasking. Food was ready under 10 minutes even though she had several other orders too.

Once upon a time there was a little girl named May R. (no relation). She was an adorable little girl who loved food and was easy to please and feed so long as the food wasn't disgusting, nasty, pungent, squishy or of the devil sort (i.e. eggs, broccoli, cucumber & such). Luckily May's mom didn't really fix such foods otherwise May would be extremely skinny, malnourished or this would have been her eulogy. There was, however, one dish of her mom's that May wasn't particularly fond of and that was when her mom warmed up a can of Tulip canned salmon and put it over rice. The problem? Dear old mom never took out the bones & cartilage from the chopped salmon so poor May R. had to spend half her dinner time picking out all the shards before she could eat her food! And back then there were no microwaves so of course she had to eat her food cold once the deed was done. Fast forward to a sunny day in January 2013 as May rides to Shareef's East ($5 Groupon in hand) ready to sample one of their famous platters. Based on the poster-size menu on the store's wall that displayed a beautiful image of a delicately grilled and perfectly basted salmon filet laid across a bed of rice, the salmon platter was what May wanted. What May got was a Jimmy Snuka style Superfly Splash back to childhood. The salmon in the platter was chopped up so small that the grains of yellow rice were nearly bigger than the salmon crumbles. Reliving her traumatic mom style meal, May had to pick through the entire layer of crumbled salmon looking for bones. She did find 3 bones after her 15 minute search but thankfully she has a microwave! Overall the platter was okay but the undertones of salt were so loud they should have been given their own musical solo. It also would be wise to ask for the special cheese sauce on the side for sparing use at your own blood pressure's risk. Service was pleasant, store was clean and menu options were many so all isn't lost. Go check out this location or the West side one for yourself and make sure you grab one of those sweet potato cheesecakes. They are the absolute bee's knee, shin and pinky toe! Shareef's has a Facebook page that posts random specials so check it daily since their regular prices are a little steep. As for Ray, I mean May R.? I get the feeling she'll definitely visit Shareef's again soon, but to either try another dish or request that her salmon remain whole and unchopped lest she suffer another bad childhood memory!

I was hoping for something like NYC Chicken and rice. This was not what I got. I ordered the chicken rice platter, and was woefully disappointed. The chicken was dry and, itself not seasoned. However, they topped the entire thing with seasoning over the cream sauce. It was waaaaay to salty and overly seasoned. I tried to mix it up to distribute the flavors a bit more evenly. The white sauce is creamy but nothing really that special. I would have liked some of the red sauce to give it a spicy kick. It was also more expensive that I was expecting. Yes, the portion is sizeable, but damn, $10+ for lunch is pretty pricy, and in my opinion, they didn't serve me $10 worth of food. It seems like people are a bigger fan of the seafood offerings, so maybe I should have tried that instead of the dry chicken.

Initially I went to the Franklin St location. While there, I had the shrimp and crab meat wrap. I wanted to order the Sweet potato cheesecake I'd been hearing about but, they were sold out. I'm sure they can put anything in a wrap but, the rice throws me off and makes me want a burrito. Other than that the crabmeat and shrimp was adequate seasoned. The wrap also included broccoli and a bit of onion. My second visit was to the new Chester St. location. Which is right across from Northeast market and this time they had the Sweet potato cheesecake. Sweet manna from heaven! It was so light delicious (the filling) the crust was nice and flaky. I think both locations are great for carry out but, I would not be inclined to dine in. Two great things though, Shareef's is halal and kosher.

I stop by Shareef's a few times a month for lunch. I was turned onto Shareef's by my hubby who frequented the Franklin Street location. I was excited when I saw the announcement of the opening of the Chester Street location since I work at Hopkins. I love their chicken and shrimp or salmon wraps (and platters). And the sweet potato cheese cake is a little taste of heaven. The food is always fresh and delicious so I don't mind waiting for it to be prepared because I know that my patience will be rewarded. I've taken some co-workers there and we all agree, it's some "good eatin'".

I've been here for lunch twice now and let's say I have NOT been disappointed! The customer service is great and I felt very welcomed when I walked in the door. My first experience was with the ground turkey wrap..it's a hot wrap served with rice, broccoli, cheese and their special sauce which was creamy and sweet but nevertheless good in taste. Today, I had the jumbo lump wrap...it was smack your mama good! Jumbo lump crab meat and shrimp throughout also served warm with rice, broccoli, cheese and the special sauce. It is a little pricey for lunch, but it's healthy than a chicken box or some faux Chinese food from the corner. I enjoyed my lunch and hours later I'm still full! Can't wait until my next trip there..my goal is to try something different each time I go..maybe a platter next time!

Called in my order for a salmon and lump crabmeat wrap and once I got to where I was going I realized they didn't give me what I asked for....so I called and the young man said no problem just come back and we'll take care of you and that's just what he did. Gave me another wrong order but I kept it because I had never tried the platters. So needless to say I was very pleased with my wrong order

I love this food!!! I've only been to this location since I starting working a block away. I've tried a few of the platters. The salmon platter with extra sauce is the thing to get. Never fails!

Came in earlier today for lunch, since I'd been hearing so much about the place. I ordered a chicken platter and added shrimp to it. It was pretty good, but I wouldn't rave about it. For me, the weirdest part was the sauce they put on it. I'm not sure of what the exact ingredients of the sauce are, but as soon as I opened the platter and caught the aroma, I instantly thought of potato salad. That's what it smelled like...and what do you know?, that's sort of what it tasted like too. It's not that it wasn't good, it just wasn't what I expected. I was hoping for a more buttery, garlicky, cheesy sauce. Having a mayo-based sauce over top of rice and veggies fatigued me about halfway through the platter & I had to finish it later. I'm not sure I would make this a regular lunch/dinner spot, b/c it's pretty expensive (my platter was a/b $14), and it just didn't wow me enough to warrant spending that kind of money regularly, but I would certainly go back...esp since I still have to try the Sweet Potato Cheese Pie!

(11/14/2013) Shareef's has a mobile food truck! Great to see them today at State Center. Tried the Salmon Wrap on recommendation from a coworker. Service was lightning fast (must've been ready-made), no wait at all. Interior was moist, filled with yellow rice, American cheese, chopped salmon filet, red and green bell peppers, broccoli and maybe pimiento. Well-seasoned, touch salty, touch of bitterness, maybe like celery seed. Have a suspicion all wraps are the same, just swap out the protein. Overall, not bad.

Ok, my cousin turned me on to the spot after posting her amazing looking Salmon platter with shrimp and crab meat. The place smells Indian and Caribbean when you walk in which is a good marriage of aromas. I ordered 2 Shrimp platters $10 each with colossal shrimp added $5 and crab meat $4... Details on the taste coming soon... All I can say is that I will DEFINITELY be going back to Shareef's... great tasting and a good value for my $$... The fact that it's not a far drive makes it a huge plus.

Hello, may I help you? Yes, I'll have a salmon wrap and a cup of your sweet peach tea. Is that all? Hum, no, I'll also try the seafood bowl. Does that really come with real jumbo lump crab meat and large shrimp? Or is that just a picture of what it should look like? No sir. Everything is as advertised May I also have a tray of these brown sugar cookies please? Are you hungry?
