A regular looks small, but it's actually a lot (for one person). With a regular, you can choose 2 flavors, so I blended the Matcha Green Tea with Chocolate Noir, and it was delicious! A strong green tea taste offset by rich chocolate. Was not disappointed and just wanted to provide a bit of inspiration for all of you. If you get a large, you can choose 3 flavors, just a heads up.

When I go to Fell Point, I always go to Pitango for a scoop of gelato! It is much more expensive than Hagendazs... (Two flavors costs $5.25) But trust me, Pitango worth the price! There are many flavors you could try, and some flavors are seasonal. The one I highly recommend is the Pistachio....And it is the reason I go to Pitango again and again. The flavor is like thousands of pistachio condensed in a small scoop of ice cream. The gelato has excellent texture, creamy but not too soft. The other one I love is black tea flavor, but it is seasonal and I could not have it this time. Pineapple flavor is also adorable. You will know it is ture pineapple inst

Amazing gelato in cute little shop in the heart of fellspoint. Try the quince which is locally grown and the sipping hot chocolate! A little pricey so i dropped a star for that but still worth it.

By far the best gelato I've had outside of Italy. My combo of Sicilian almond and pistachio had nuts blended so finely you can't feel the texture. This blending made the flavors come out more robustly than if extracts or nut chunks were used. My husband's chocolate noir and expresso were intense in flavorful yet not overpowering. The texture was creamy and smooth and almost became stringy when you scoop some out of your cup - my kind of gelato. All frozen treats were served in elegant chrome stainless steel canisters, so elegant! If not for the exceptional flavors of the gelato, I must come back for the sorbets. The Granny Apple and Mojito sorbets intrigue me. That and the hot chocolate featured in Noah D.'s photo would be great warm treat.
(5)Michelle A.
I could eat their sorbet every day! Go with mojito (has fresh mint in it) or one of the local fruit flavors with a scoop of vanilla gelato and make your own creamsickle combo.
(5)Victoria L.
This place has gelato that is like my perfect woman: sweet, a little tangy, super creamy and very, very cold. They don't care how long you stare trying to decide on what flavors to get. They will let you sample everything. You will walk out of here with your palate satiated in a way that ice cream could never do.
(4)Dakota L.
Cardamom gelato and thick, delicious Italian sipping chocolate. This might be all I ever want for dessert. The gelato is actual gelato, and not someone trying to pass off American ice cream on you, and the staff is friendly and helpful.
(5)Lee W.
My wife has to go here any time we are in Fells, just to get hot chocolate because it's SO GOOD, not too sweet, just right on the edge of being sweet.... very super chocolaty, much like we've had in coffee shops in Amsterdam for example. What I get which is insanely good is the Affogato - a shot of espresso with a dollop of their hazelnut or chocolate gelato... well I get it with Gianduja (chocolate hazelnut) gellato, which is amazing, 5 stars, even on it's own, but the espresso is also 5 stars, and when you put the two together it's just over the moon - no words! I will go over to fells on a warm morning just to pick up one of these, and that means passing my other fav. espresso shop on the way over here (High Grounds, and Patterson Perk!), so this is a real treat. You know you're in for really good espresso when you see the massive "FAEMA E61 jubile" two-group espresso machine staring you down behind the long white marble countertops. Staff was perky and down to earth, and quick. Really nice place to hang out by the big windows and stoop. Possibly one of my fav. stoop locations in all of Baltimore. I would go there even just for the stoop. Right there by the water too. This place is so well-executed. The gellato is out of this world, every flavor I've tried, which is quite a few.

Hello, I love you. Pitango Gelato combines my two favorite things, sweet delicious creamy goodness and local, organic ingredients. Makes the environmentalist in my swoon. It's basically and upscale ice cream shop right on the main drag of Broadway in Fells Point. It was packed when I went - and it's not even that warm out. It's just that good. These are not your normal flavors - much more adventurous and sophisticated. I got the bourbon vanilla and I'm not ever goin' back. There's also sorbets and coffee/espresso for those not craving a cool creamy treat. A must have when you're in Fells.
(4)Virginia Y.
LOOOOOOVE this place! I had a sample of rhubarb and cardamom and it was amazing!!!!!!! The best part is that it's all organic. The only thing that would make me frown is the prices. There's a large variety of flavors and it's not your typical flavors either. Pitango, you definitely had me at rhubarb. If it wasn't for being full already, I would've bought a cup. Next time my love, next time.

After yet another return trip, Pitango Gelato is still my favorite in the Delmarva area. The Bacio was divine and the espresso gelato was pleasantly strong and slightly bitter, just like the real thing. The non-dairy sorbet dark chocolate and spicy chocolate and fruity flavors are also good but something about the dairy underpinnings of the gelato flavors make them my favorites. There is something special about the milk used at Pitango. No doubt milked from some sacred cow somewhere. I'm not usually a latte fan (prefer cappuccino) but Pitango's latte is the best I've ever had. I also like the dark chocolate sipping chocolate but it is so thick you need some water on the side and to consider it a dessert on its own. Every time I'm in Fells Point, I make a Pitango pit stop.
(5)christine j.
The yummiest Hazelnet and pistachio gelato ever!! Great combo with their espresso.
(4)Beth Lacey G.
I cannot stop craving this stuff! Beautiful flavor combinations and delightful service. I always get a 2-scoop with cardamom and quince. They work with local farmers to source a lot of their fruits and the superior taste comes through. The price is worth it!
(5)Sara Z.
I think they deserve a lot more stars for being open so late!! Like 12 midnight! I am so happy I walked by them and tasted the ice cream. Very natural many organic ingredients, the flavor is very good, and not heavy. and they have many many flavors, and options. My favorite pistachio. I never thought I would taste such a good organic ice cream in the East. Try it late at night it feels even better!
(5)Aliza E.
Swoon. Ride your bike down to Fells and eat your treat by the water. Best summer day or lunch-break getaway ever! They are so nice about letting you taste all of the magical flavors, which I love because they're high quality flavors you can't get anywhere else.
(5)Arsalan H.
If you can find better gelato anywhere in the US, let me know please. Vanilla chip is by far the best gelato I have ever tasted! Price is very good, $5 for a small, which includes 2 flavors, but you can always do both as one (Vanilla Chip).
(5)ChaCha C.
All natural everything. The best gelato I've had in this state. Expensive, but worth it. The lines might look long, but it is not a long wait. The only thing I will say is, In Europe, they let you have as many flavors as you want in each size. These places around here try to limit you to two or three ... and that's L - A - M - E
(4)Reena M.
Delicious!!! This is some of the best gelato I've ever had outside of Italy!! It was so creamy and smooth. I had the pistachio and chocolate/hazelnut one. This is also one of the few places in Balmer you can get an excellent cup of coffee! I now see what all the other yelpers are raving about.
(5)Shayna S.
I never really knew the difference between ice cream and gelato until I had Pitango. It is seriously delicious. I will go down to Fell's just to get Pitango! They have great flavors and they always keep them unique and interesting. They also try to keep a flavor for every different taste. I still somehow manage to get chocolate hazelnut either on its own or with another flavor every time I go. I can't seem to get away from it. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm!
(5)KuangYou C.
When I saw the staff scooped the ice cream, I knew it would be great! Why? Their ice cream(gelato) is not chunky when you scoop it, it is more like a soft dough! I had a Amerena, it is the new flavor. It tasted so well, especially with 110 degree outside!!! It tasted like vanilla, but not exactly. Also, you can see some cherries in the gelato!
(5)Maui V.
Best gelato I have ever had. Hazelnut tastes like nutella. Pistachio is pretty awesome too. This made me so happy.
(5)Judy C.
I love this place! Best thing that has happened in Fells Point. Almost everytime I go to Fells, I think about having Pitango for dessert. Their gelatos and sorbets are great! Every single flavors are so good that I always have a hard time to decide what combination I want (smallest cup gives you two flavors). However, the chocolate hazelnut holds a special gelato place in my heart.
(5)Jessica F.
I have been obsessed with hot chocolate lately thanks to a Christmas gift card to Starbucks. While I heart the salted caramel hot chocolate at Starbucks, the Choco-latte at Pitango was simply wonderful. I was tempted to try the espresso gelato combination but declined after the cups of coffee I had at brunch. But only just...
(4)Amy L.
This is some delicious high quality gelato. The texture is amazing and the flavor choices are awesome. Their flavors change all the time and the day I went I had their black tea and their vanilla chocolate chip gelato. It was so hard to choose! They're really great about letting you sample their flavors. I wanted to sample them all, but I was trying to be lady-like and not piglet-like so I limited myself to trying 4 of their flavors and these 2 I liked the best. They also had great sorbet choices. My friend got the raspberry and cantaloupe and both were delish! The smallest size they offer goes for about $5. Would def try and stop by again if ever I'm in the Baltimore area again :)
(4)Jeff M.
Visited our friend living in Baltimore. She took us here and I'm freakin glad she did. I had spicy chocolate & hazelnut gelato! Wow, mindblasting!. Affagato, its a coffee/hazelnut smoothie w double shot of espresso! Great! And my girl got mojito gelato as well as pineapple gelato. Out of this world! One of the best gelato place I've been in. Thank you for making people happy! I will be back here soon. And I'm from Jersey. Ill travel 3 hours for this!
(5)Ina C.
After trying what others claim to be the best gelato in the DC area (Dolcezza), I'm gonna have to up my rating of Pitango to five stars and declare that this is the best gelato in MD. The gelato here is super smooth - creamy, but light enough not to be described as "rich." I'm sticking with my bourbon vanilla, but I exchanged my tangerine sorbet for the espresso when I went last week, though my friend's hazelnut really took the cake. This stuff is just perfection. People throw the words organic and fair trade around, but this place seems really dedicated to giving their customers the real thing when it comes to ingredients. I couldn't ask for anything more!
(5)Wasc W.
It's like gelato heaven on Earth! I can't get enough of this place. My family enjoys it too, especially my dad, so we come here after dinner out in Baltimore. I've tried almost all the flavors and enjoy the new ones, exotic ones and the favorites. The staff are enthusiastic and friendly.
(5)Rita V.
Expensive? Yes! GREAT GELATO, rivaling any I have had in Italy? YES? AM I a FAN? YES! Staff is really friendly and caring, patient and they love what they do!
(4)Aurora A.
Love Love Love this place. Creative unusual flavors made from high quality ingredients. Tonight we had chose cardamon (this heavenly, the zing of hitting a seed pod) and chocolate hazelnut's sweet seductive nuttyness. We also had to have everyone's favorite sorbet, mojito!! fresh, light, sweet, tart....ahh! refreshing satisfaction.
(5)Esther L.
Gelato was great--creamy and rich. But not overly rich and sweet, which is the problem you get with a lot of places that can't do gelato right. I tried the hazelnut, blackberry, and black tea flavors. Hazelnut and blackberry were great, however, the black tea was a little too bitter for me. I also had the affogato with one of their chocolate/coffee flavored gelatos, and it was also a little too bitter for me. Maybe it's because it had two espresso shots in it? Or maybe I could have added a little milk in it which would have fixed the problem. But overall, the gelatos were excellent and I can't wait to go back again!
(5)Tara A.
Pitango- Where have you been all my life?! How do you guys make this gelato taste so good? I have had gelato but nothing like this heaven. Try the coconut.
(5)jeanelle m.
Creamy. Delicious. Addicting. Best. Gelato. Ever. Most other gelato I've ever had was more icy than creamy. I recently tried Il Laboratorio del Gelato in NYC with the weird flavors (celery, black sesame, guinness, etc.) , and I wish I could go home just to get me some Pitango for my fix. Warning: Do not try to walk to the pier and have your gelato while gazing over at Tide Point, especially on a warm summer day. You won't make it, the gelato will melt and you will be sad. If you want icy gelato, go to Little Italy.
(5)Jonathan M.
The real deal, freshest offerings and highest quality gelato/ desert around!
(4)Den F.
pitango gelato is delicious. its very creamy. they pride on being organic, i really like how authentic and fresh their flavors taste. they have various sorbets also and their flavors are updated pretty frequently. it's pricey for what you get though. a small cup of gelato is over $4. a small cup gives you 2 flavors and large gives you 3. you can sample as many flavors as you want. their hot chocolate seriously tastes like just melted chocolate, very rich.
(4)Erica T.
I went to this Gelato spot twice on my 3 day trip to Baltimore a couple months ago. Amazing flavors, and the nice guys at the counter gave my friend and I as many samples as we wanted (actually, more than we wanted). Their gelato is made from locally sourced fruits and ingredients. In my book, that's as good as it gets!
(5)Ww H.
Tangerine Sorbet. Game over.
(5)Kara W.
Yum try the strawberry and anything chocolate.
(5)mi l.
So good. They had so many intriguing flavors i seriously didnt know which one to try. My bf & I settled with pistachio and it was so good. It's also in good location near tons of restaurants and bars. Plus there was a parking lot right in front. awesome. And it's near a small pier kind of thing. Perfect way to end the night.
(5)Christine P.
They had me at cardamom gelato. If you find yourself in Fell's Point, definitely make a stop here. There are so many different and interesting flavors to choose from, you'll wan to try a little of everything.
(5)Dawn F.
amazing gelato. amazing. just. go.
(5)Gregg W.
This is the best in Baltimore!! The best Gelato I've ever had was in Italy, this is a close second. I highly recommend pistachio or cookies and cream. Very creamy and flavorful - this is quite the opposite of many of the US gelato places I've visited. The only drawback was the price. It is not cheap. We purchased small servings and walked out spending more than $12.
(4)Ashley H.
I really need to stop going here lol! Their Cantaloupe and Quince sorbets are so addicting. The atmosphere is really nice, and the employees are really friendly. Plus they opened a new one on Capitol Hill, and I've been going there ever since it opened about a month ago. It's about $5 for a small cup, but it's worth every penny! Also, try their pineapple/mango combination. Amazing :)
(4)Stuart L.
Going to speed through the first part of my review to get to the good part: Gelato = really good. Okay. Got that out of the way. On two separate occasions I drove from College Park to Baltimore with nothing else in mind other than to get to Pitango and get me some of their sipping chocolate. I went to Europe in 2008 and got hot chocolate at every cafe I encountered (slight overstatement) in search of the perfect cup of hot chocolate. Little did I know, I would have to wait two years and two GRE tests and three grad school applications later to bring me to the Baltimore area to find that perfect cup. At Pitango Gelato. Stop whatever you're doing and go to Pitango and get some sipping chocolate and some whipping cream and sip that chocolate and that will forever be the moment you use to summon your patronus /superfluousharrypotterreference. On top of this life-shattering sipping chocolate experience, the staff are the nicest people I ever encountered in Fells Point. I moved to Austin and Fells Point and Pitango are the things I miss most about the Baltimore area.
(5)Monia C.
Great gelato. I loved the black tea gelato and the pistachio gelato.
(5)Ariane P.
Tried their pistachio gelato for the first time and I felt like I was in Italy (never been there actually). I definitely will go back there for their famous spicy chocolate. Even the small cup made me full, it was $5 for the smallest cup, but u can get two flavors in one. Well every magic comes with a price. This gelato must be made by love.
(5)Amy C.
I love all the unique and exotic flavors, such as black tea. Best of all, none of the flavors are too sweet and every flavor has the same creamy texture. There are enough reviews on here that go into more details so I will keep this brief: just go!
(3)Mary P.
Dude what? $5 for a little thing of gelato? I mean yes it's creamy and had a good flavor but it's not amazing. I do like the flavor selection and the counter person was super nice. I guess it's trying to be one of those speciality places. I have had better but I suppose its the place to go in Baltimore.
(3)Jessica S.
I am obsessed with Gelato thanks to Dojo Gelato in Cincinnati. So when my sister and I saw this place I knew we would have to check it out! I got the Pistachio and the Crema and my sister got the Chocolate Hazelnut and Espresso. My favorite was the Crema. It was very good and had a lot of lemony flavor to it. The pistachio was not as good at Dojo's but it had a nice flavor and went well with the Pistachio. I had asked for a recommendation to go with the Pistachio and it was a great one! I tried the lemon as well and my quick bit was good. My sister loved the Chocolate Hazelnut and I have to say it was amazing. It had a lot of hazelnut flavor and was almost a Nutella copycat! Overall it was a delicious treat!
(4)Ken M.
All gelato. lots of flavors and fruit explosion. Apple sorbet is very apply with bits of apple. All their fruit sorbets are like that. Chocolate noir. chunks of chocolate and intense chocolate flavor. very good. perfect for summer dessert flings. small organic friendly store. its worth a stop if you're in Fell's Point.
(4)Jessica A.
The fruit flavors like the grapefruit and concord grape and light and bright, not super rich in flavor - they are natural. If you're not into that, skip them. The hazelnut and chocolate flavors are decadent and rich - delicious. Their espresso and gelato combos are awesome!
(4)Tony P.
We stopped by here for dessert after walking around the Inner Harbor to work off our meal at Miss Shirley's. This is a local gelato franchise chain. I've frequented the Reston facility often. The flavors are vibrant. I had the peach and strawberry which were tangy and delicious. The gelato is consistent and wonderfully satisfying. A great respite to fight off the summer heat.
(4)Todd O.
First of the service was fantastic. They were all so helpful in guiding us and gave us samples to try. The gelato was excellent too with a great variety of flavors. The hardest part was selecting what we wanted. It does help that you can fit two flavors in the cup.
(5)Taylor Z.
Pricey but very unique and really tasty
(5)Denise C.
We love this place! The gelato is easily the best we've ever had. The sorbet is pretty good too. Not cheap, but oh so wonderful! My favorite is the dark chocolate chocolate chip. A close second is the pistachio. On the other hand, my husband likes the cantaloupe sorbet best. The store is attractive and tidy. There are a couple small high-top tables inside and a few benches outside. And the public square across the road provides a few more places to enjoy your treat. The staff is especially nice and are quick to offer free samples. While it can get crowded on weekends and pleasant evenings, it is ABSOLUTELY worth the wait!
(5)Lydia H.
2.5 stars I finally visited this Pitango after having twice gone to the Logan Circle location in DC, and I can safely say that Pitango Gelato in Baltimore is just as boring as it is in DC. Pitango lovers, I don't get it. I just read the review wherein Pitango is declared superior to Capogiro, and I am practicing some serious self-restraint right now. I will just say that just because you produce all of your ingredients on your own farm doesn't mean your gelato has any flavor. So little flavor, in fact, that I can't even remember what flavors I got last weekend. It's interesting that everyone makes a point of mentioning that Pitango keeps all the choices in separate containers so that the flavors don't overlap; maybe that is the problem. I would rather taste three flavors in one scoop than no flavors in an entire cup. The stainless steel containers also add a level of sterility to the shop that is not enticing. Oh yeah, and it's overpriced. Phew, okay. I'm done.
(3)Gary H.
One cold and rainy night, my date and I braved the weather to venture here after dinner despite the temperature outside. Let me tell you, the gelato was worth the loss of a few more degrees of body heat. Perhaps I was a little easier swayed by good gelato than usual because my last experience was so terrible (I should have known not to get self-proclaimed "gelato" from a train station in DC), but even my date who has had gelato in Italy approved, so I can't be that crazy, right? Anyway, long story short, great gelato, lots of flavors and drink options, but the seating and atmosphere could be a LITTLE better. When it's raining outside and there are more people than chairs it can get a bit uncomfortable.
(4)Luke C.
Always busy rain or shine, this place is always busy, even minutes before it closes. The pistachio gelato is also heavenly. This is the best way to cap off a great night out. My favourite flavours for the summer: Mojito and Pistachio! A splendid mix of refreshing mint and subtle sweet pistachio.
(5)Lee B.
Pitango....mmmmmmm pitango. If only my girlfriend loved me more than a cup of gelato from pitango, I would be a lucky man. Pitango makes some of the best tasting gelato in the world. You must try the pistachio. It is sweet and creamy but in no way overbearing like some pistachio ice creams. Probably because they actually use real pistachios. Finish up your trip with some mohito, it is so clean and fresh tasting!
(5)Chase H.
I went here when they first opened, and I recently went back when we were in the area. It's as good as it was years ago! The gelato here are well worth the price, and the atmosphere inside is great. It's very clean and the employees are very friendly.
(5)Michelle K.
Pitango changed my life. Last summer, I was at a crossroads. I had just been dumped by my boyfriend(whom I thought I was going to marry), graduated school, and was overwhelmed about what to do next with my life. I was also just exhausted, I had been on a whirlwind job interview tour San Diego, to Chicago, to Memphis, and to Baltimore and I still had New York before I went back to my then home in Boston. I was staying at the Admiral Fells Inn the night before my interview. I decided to wander around to wind down the night with a short walk around Fells Point. Luckily, I wandered into Pitango. It was a year ago and I still remember my order of Green Apple sorbet and Vanilla gelato. It was amazing. My interview went well and it was the job of my dreams, but I was so incredibly hesitant to move to Baltimore. I had flashes of Kitchen Confidential, where Bourdain hated Baltimore, crime statistics and more crime statistics. But then I thought (and this is totally sincere), "I had really good gelato in Baltimore. Maybe there is more to that city. Maybe I should try it out." And that is it how, Pitango changed my life. Okay, so none of you really care about my life story. It is sort of ridiculous and self indulgent to include it in a review, but I am sort of a ridiculous and self indulgent person. ***Actual useful info: A small is still a very large portion and with a small you can have 2 different flavors. I suggest always choosing more than one flavor. I am particularly attached to the Sicillian almond and the banana. Many of their flavors are seasonal, so don't get too attached to one flavor. If you want to sit outside to eat your frozen treats, walk it down the pier, there are less flies there.
(5)Jill K.
I wouldn't consider myself a gelato snob. Put simply, if it tastes good, I like it! I feel very conflicted about this review. On the one hand, I am really impressed with Pitango's commitment to quality ingredients and artisinal production. The shop is very cute and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. However, I find the gelato slightly bland - it seems to be lacking something that I can't quite articulate. I've tried it about 4 or 5 times now, and I never feel that satisfied by it. It's also extremely expensive. Out of the flavors I've tried there, my favorite is the chocolate chocolate chip. Personally, if I'm in the neighborhood, I prefer Mr. Yogato or Maggie Moo's for my frozen treat fix.
(3)Esther O.
Love. I haven't actually had their gelato (though I hear it's amazing), but they get 5 stars from me for their sorbets. Such perfectly balanced flavors, and such *interesting* flavors. I always want to try way more than I possibly can eat! So refreshing to find a place with such wonderful ... refreshing :) ... treats.
(5)Dame V.
Delicious sorbetto in a good variety of flavors. I haven't tried the gelato, since it's not vegan and I am. The sorbetto is a perfect Fells Point treat on a warm day, and the small shop is clean and attractive, with very helpful staff.
(4)Willy W.
Good gelato, kinda hard to find parking along the street, but a great place to eat and walk around the harbor.
(4)Erica C.
Sure this stuff is expensive as heck, but well worth the price. It isn't a daily expense, so I can justify it. Very creamy and delicious. I haven't found one flavor at this place that I didn't like. I have issues determining if I want froyo at Yogato or gelato at Pitango whenever I am in Fells Point. Both are so different, yet dessert-y. Pitango wins whenever it is a date option. The "wow this is good" factor gives you something to talk about. The "all natural" ingredients would be enough to lure in the Whole Foods junkies from Fleet St. too. Very good I must say =)
(5)Will T.
After stuffing my face, I walked over to Pitango looking for something cool and refreshing. I wanted a fruity gelato/sorbet so I went with the mojito and mango which mixed very well together. The mojito had chopped up mint in it and tasted just like the drink! The "regular" size is pretty large and fairly priced at around $5 which seems to be the going rate for a cup of gelato. Overall, definitely one of the better gelatos I've ever had.
(5)Jessica T.
Best Gelato I have ever had. I have lived in Baltimore my whole life and I love that everyday I discover something new and exciting in it. Pitango is no exception. You must have Pitango if you like gelato. It will change your life!
(5)Tara C.
Delicious. There's something for any preference, and the employees will give you as many samples as needed to find it. The spicy chocolate was fantastic!
(5)Allison H.
First time I've had the opportunity to try Pitango and my first impression is that it is pretty damn tasty. I opted for the stracciatella (vanilla with chocolate bits) and it was delicious. Especially the chocolate. No idea what they use for it but it was very high quality. The Fells Point location is pretty basic with a bit of an old-fashioned theme. The store was well lit and clean. Luckily we arrived shortly after a rush so there was no wait. The employees were friendly and efficient. All in all a good first experience and I can't wait to go back and try some more flavors. Slight downside is the price point for their sizes is a bit higher than other gelato places but it's not a deal breaker for a once in a while treat.
(4)Erin B.
Love it here! Lots of delicious and creative flavors, friendly staff, and great information about the source of ingredients. If you're one of those people who love to learn about how special almonds are imported from Sicily for the almond gelato, you'll love this place! I keep ordering really odd combinations (tangerine sorbet and chocolate noir gelato) that don't exactly work but that's all my fault. Whenever the staff recommends a combo, it's always great. Hazelnut and almond, for example, is a mild nutty delicious mix. Spicy chocolate is really great, too!
(5)Fat T.
Spicy chocolate gelato is unique and very good.
(5)Jeff W.
Absolutely outstanding. I'm torn as to whether or not Pitango replaces Capogiro (Philadelphia) as the best frozen dairy I've ever had, but it certainly gives it a run for its money. The flavors at Pitango aren't quite as unique and diverse as Capogiro, but the flavors are unmatched in terms of intensity and how natural they taste. Nothing here tastes like it was flavored with an extract, and is powerful yet not overbearingly sweet and syrupy. I went for the banana, cinnamon, and bourbon vanilla which was a great combo. The banana tasted like the pure gelatoifcation (not a word, but it gets the point across) of an actual banana. Not phony banana flavor, but an actual creamy banana. Now onto the consistency. The first thing to notice is the unique elasticity of the gelato here. I've had a variety of gelato but never one of this consistency. Frozen dairy snobbery aside, you truly have never experienced something like Pitango Gelato. Yeah, ice creams vary in creaminess; yeah, frozen custard has less air and is really rich and creamy; but the gelato here is like a completely different world. It's almost...chewy, but in a good way. It barely even melts! Now, the only thing I will knock it for is the prices are super-high. A medium gelato, about the equivalent of two scoops of ice cream, is $6. That prevents it from being a regular part of my life, but as a special treat every now and then, Pitango will certainly be up there on my list of frozen dairy luxuries. It's a good thing I live 70 miles from here!
(5)Ji K.
Wow. Pitango lives up to the reviews. Went in with high expectations and Pitango met them. Tried 6 flavors and I really liked 5 of them. If you like coffee flavored ice cream or gelato try Pitango's version...awesome. Their pistachio, strawberry, chocolate noir, and chocolate chip were very good too. Only flavor I didn't like as much was the mango. Pitango is walking distance away from Blue Moon where our group had brunch.

Pitango is outstanding!! I have been there a half dozen times at this point for their gelatos and sorbets (so I cannot attest to their beverages). Service: friendly & down to earth. They do a great job of helping customers pick out pairings for sorbets and gelato so that flavors complement one another. Furthermore, they have no issues with customers requesting tastings before ordering which is great because there are so many delicious sounding and looking flavors so it's tough to make a decision. Layout: There are a few high top tables with bar stools for patrons inside and benches directly outside the establishment. On weekends in the summer it can be tight inside if that's where you want to hang otherwise it's easy to get in and get out. Not something to do every day because it can get expensive but for a little something special every now and then Pitango is perfect.

Very friendly staff, good service, efficient line. I had Strawberry Sorbet (yes, they have more than gelato) paired with Vanilla Gelato - yum in my tum! The girl working said this combo was on of her favs, but also suggested the chocolate sorbet paired with the strawberry, then proceeded to give me a very large sample, and it did not disappoint! Tasty treat to end out evening in Fell's Point - very worth it!

I don't usually go for gelato/sorbet since I equate it with overly sugary, fake flavors from the supermarket. Wow - I had to literally eat my words today. Organic, quality ingredients with really inventive flavor combos. Saw mojito, hazelnut and straciatella. I had crema (custard/Vanilla) and scoop of apricot. Delicious and very refreshing. Tried the choc w/choc chips, very chocolatey and rich. And with about 8% butterfat compared to 25% in ice cream, you can't go wrong. Just do it! PS: had to up to 5 stars since now that I am thinking about it, it was pretty amazing gelato.
(5)John M.
the best latte.
(5)Sunan L.
I heard this place on Yelp and went there with my boyfriend. We have mango and orange chocolate. Mango is a new taste and it is not that good. But the orange chocolate is fantastic! Besides, it locates in fells point, which is a really good place to sit, have some icy and face to wind.

Aw man, this place does it right. Stopped in for a quick visit and sampled the quince gelato. "Quince?" you may ask. Yea, quince, what of it? Real men like quince. Such a nice and smooth flavor. Gelatos are very rich but not in an over the top kinda way. I had a small sip of their liquid chocolate. Man, I hope they come out with way to inject this directly into my blood stream but for now I'll have to settle for the melting down process. But wow! liquid chocolate! Geez! What better way to get the chocolate right to your soul. I then had a coconut gelato. Thank you, Pitango, for having coconut around. And it wasn't just something with coconut sprinkles but straight up coconut through and through. Why don't I ever see more coconut? Answer me this! The shop is bright and clean and a sleek contrast to the old and woody dives of Fells. Oh, and the folks at Pitango are not stingy with samples either. Go on in and check 'em out if your passing by. Makes for a nice quick stop.

I'm probably going out on a limb here, but I didn't love it. And, I L-O-V-E sorbet. In fact, I make it almost every week during the summer since I've had a hard time getting it in Baltimore. Personally, I found it too creamy for my taste. And, I tried three: White Grapefruit, Mojito and Mango. For me, I like it more 'juicy' and with a touch more kick. That being said, I love the environment and the flavor choices are great. Yes, it's a wee pricey, but I got three flavors in a 1.5 pint insulated box for about $11. I know it should be at 14 degrees, but it's sitting in my freezer until I want to try it again.
(2)Michelle C.
I've never gotten a flavor I didn't like. I am infamous for getting two scoops of different flavors that don't go together. I love their sorbet and when I see something like "Spicy Chocolate", well I have to get that with my concord grape sorbet. What's that? They don't go together? How about a scoop of the blood orange sorbet and a bourbon vanilla or lemon and hazelnut? The list of wacky combos goes on and on. This place changes up the flavors frequently and there are always new flavors to try.
(4)Carla C.
I will keep this review brief because sometimes less is more. Pitango has delicious, creamy gelato. It is excellent. They also have coffee too. If you're in the area (or not but want a nice place to get some dessert), you should check this place out. There isn't enough gelato around this town, but I'm glad we have Pitango.
(5)Jen T.
As everyone has already said, this is THE place to get gelato on this side of the Atlantic. Not only is it delicious and faithful to what gelato actually is, it's also organic and local, so the somewhat steep price makes sense. Why not treat yourself to a small cup of the good stuff for $4 rather than buying a huge cup of something crappier (both for you and for the world) and saving, like, a dollar (if that)? I haven't tried a flavor I didn't like, and I've tasted many of them since a friend of mine works here. Every single sorbet flavor tastes like the most ripe piece of fruit in existence was carefully selected and plucked from a tree on a small, sunny, remote farm somewhere by God himself in order to enrich all our lives in frozen, smooth form. Same goes for the hazelnuts, pistachios, vanilla beans, etc. This is what dessert was meant to be. I do wish they had a bit more seating (add one more of those tall tables, maybe) but really, not a big deal since it's such a tiny place. You can tell I have nothing bad to say when i'm reaching that far for a critique...
(5)Travis J.
Almost unanimous five stars? Give me a break. This place has pretty good gelato. It's clear that the proprietors take a lot of pride in their work, which I like. The nutty taste of their pistachio is overwhelmingly authentic. The spicy chocolate certainly is both. The service was very friendly. It is very expensive. They're expanding into D.C., so we feds can have it on a more regular basis. It's a fine, decent place. I didn't have any of their espresso, but I bet it's good. Honestly, though, comparing this place to the great Capogiro in Philadelphia is absurd. You'll find the gelato there creamier, more creatively flavored, and less syrupy. Their selection is also better. Here's Pitango's problem: Its fealty to Italy. It limits their creativity. Hear this people: just because it's "Italian" doesn't make it good. Exhibit B: Baltimore's Little Italy.
(3)Andrew K.
I've been hearing alot of good things about this place but I've always stuck to Vacarro's because I've just been going there for awhile but I decided to finally give this place a try. This place is open till 11pm so if you are around the Fells Point area you need to check this place out. The people inside are very friendly and they will offer you a free sample of their gelato flavors and even their hot chocolates and I was able to try 5 different flavors before deciding on what I wanted. I really liked the hazelnut and espresso flavors. The small cups costs around $5 so it is by no means cheap but it tastes really good and I would definitely come back again.
(4)Matt B.
Good stuff.
(4)Andrew W.
I've got only good things to say about this place, because honestly , they do no wrong. could they be better? yes. they could move to my kitchen... 1) this is the best gelato i've ever had. that includes italy. seriously. the texture on this stuff is amazing. every flavor i've had has been stupendous. i must try even stranger items and see how they hold up... 2) their gelato tastes so damn good because of their ingredients. all their produce is local, organic, and fresh. thus seasonal flavors. as nature intended, you greedy fucks. all their dairy products come from an organic, all-grass fed cow farm in rural PA. i appreciate that. i picture checkered happy cows in green fields under passing white clouds in blue skies mooing away. that's a nice picture. hallucinogens help. 3) for an ice cream place, they've got some pretty great hours. grab a gelato on some sunny summer day and sit in the shade of the tree basking in the port breeze outside while people parade down the cobblestones. or swing by some dark, march rainy sunday after beer and dinner, and nurse yourself with some pistachio and hazelnut goodness. an espresso might help too. an irish espresso. 4) honesty. if you go to the bathrooms, which are just as pleasant and presentable as the rest of the place (they even have showers, a thing i might have to remember after a night at max's down the way and a possible blackout amongst the wharf rats), you can see their entire gelato making operation spread out before you. if you got it, flaunt it. 5) which reminds me. the girls who work here are cute. with accents. you will likely be as smitten as me. tall blondish italian accent woman who smiles as she hands out samples: marry me. and bring your gelatto with. together we will watch the cows and the milky way dance across the pastures.
(5)Niti B.
I know what I'm about to say is strange but I don't normally have a sweet tooth or craving for dessert after dinner...I know I'm a pastry chef how is that possible but I just have to be in the right mood and the right place to want dessert. I love gelato so I couldn't resist when a friend of my boyfriends suggested we walk around enjoy the fresh air after dinner and a cup of gelato. The consistancy was the perfect creamy and sweetness! I loved it! So delicious and didn't feel like a stuffy dessert at all! There were tons of flavors to pick from and you can't go wrong with any of them! great gelato!
(4)JJ J.
This is my favorite dessert place in Baltimore. Nothing comes close. Obviously all the gelato is great, but if you are a huge coffee fan like me, i've got to make an amazing suggestion. Get the iced Affogato drink which combines espresso with ice cold Trickling Springs milk, a scoop of your choice of gelato(I always go with the espresso one), and ice in the perfect summer drink. One taste and you'll be hooked. Coffee fan? Get it.
(5)Kristina K.
Until I came to this place, I've never had good gelato (somehow, not even in Italy) but wow, I now completely understand what I've been missing! Pitango has a multitude of seasonally-changing varieties of creamy, fruity, chocalatey, and otherwise exceptional gelato flavors. Especially rare in this day and age, imagine eating a dessert that actually tastes exactly like its title ingredients--strawberry is actual berry, tangerine is citrus-y and tastes like the fruit, pistachio and hazelnut are perfectly nutty, and mojito tastes like the real thing (but sans the alcohol, of course). The service is great and you can try as many samples as it takes to find a favorite--which will be hard because these organic desserts are incredible. To make the decision easier, keep in mind that even in a small serving (called small--it's actually surprisingly filling and satisfying!) you can get two flavors per cup and bigger sizes allow three. Pitango also has coffee and hot chocolate. Notice that the emphasis with the latter lies in 'chocolate' as their version tastes like a melted candy bar in a delicate little cup. Do yourself a favor, walk out of the option of grabbing desert at just about anywhere else and drive, if you must, to come here. It's soooo yummylicious!!!!! Once you've ordered, take advantage of its Fells Point location and walk out to the end of the pier to appreciate just how good life can be.
(5)Danielle J.
I'm keeping this one short & sweet.... Lychee- sampled, but didn't like it. I got... Spicy chocolate- yummmmmmmmm. Pistachio- meh. I may be biased because I've had pistachio gelato in Italy but I was pretty disappointed with this one... also maybe the spicy chocolate just overwhelmed it but either way it didn't seem to have much flavor to me. Service... meh. We had one girl giving us samples then she went and rang someone else up, then did some kind of paperwork and didn't come back to take our order. The girl who rang us up wasn't very friendly either. I had a living social voucher so it was basically a BOGO but I don't think it's worth $10 for two small cups. If I'm craving that spicy chocolate again I'd go back but other than that idk.
(3)Christopher C.
Supremely delicious gelato and sorbet! The staff is friendly and always ready to offer their own suggestions for flavor combinations. Speaking of flavors, there's always something new to try. I always skip desert at the neighborhood restaurants with the anticipation of visiting Pitango for something sweet and yummy.
(5)Melissa S.
Expensive! But organic and worth it. Bourbon Vanilla is where it's at.
(5)Diana P.
Although I personally didn't eat here, I did taste husband's and daughter's choices. Both were great. If I would have been hungry enough, I would have tried it too. Very busy, good location. I want to go back now and have a full serving myself.
(5)Sunny D.
2.5 stars. gelato: tasty. very tasty. not orgasmic, but i'd give it a solid annoying racheal ray YUM-O! lots of different/interesting flavors, too. decor/environment: simple, stark, almost nonexistant - but clean. the waif-skinny counter associates make you feel guilty for just ordering, and wonder if they ever try the product they sell. like, ever. price: incredibly inflated. it's good. mmmm hhhhmmm. a tasty treat. but i just said "yum-o," not, "yes, yes, YES, yeeeessss, YES, YESYESYES, YEEEESSSSS, OH MAH GAWD YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!" [like sally in her famous scene with harry]. and for the price, it needs to make me feel like THAT. i'll stick with rita's or coldstone or even baskin-robbins or haagen dazs. thanks.
(3)RB B.
Not your typical gelateria. Super creative flavors. I had the white grapefruit sorbet and the crema gelato. I thought it was a good combo side by side. I love that they use natural and organic ingredients. You can really taste the freshness and purity of just juice or cream and sugar.
(5)brian g.
really really tasty but expensive (like every other gelato place I've been to). Make sure you try the flavors before picking one
(4)Dee T.
Really quite outstanding gelato. Worth the price, which is high imo - but quality (and organic) is worth it. The flavor combinations are perfect - I stuck with some classics and just got the pistachio (which I cannot turn down) and the gianduja (chocolate hazelnut paste) but flavors like white grapefruit and spicy almond sounded sooo very intriguing. I can't remember the last time that I've had gelato this good.
(5)Thomas C.
It's not often you find places in the states that serve illy coffee. Even then places that do don't always serve affogato. This place does! Tucked away in a neat little town center called Fells Pt. it is def. the place to go if you have both coffee and/or gelato craving!
(5)Megan M.
I'm always a fan of gelato, but this was not as satisfying as what you can find in Europe. A bit more gentrified with unusual flavors. It read as organic-ish to me (don't know if they're actually organic). A little on the steep side for what it is.
(3)Flevoland D.
Some of the best ice cream in the city. Dark chocolate is so good that even real chocolate lovers would like it.
(5)Elissa O.
I stopped at Pitango during the Fells Point festival. The gelato was fantastic. I had hazelnut and the dark chocolate. Although I 'm normally not a chocolate person, it was fantastic. One of my favorite flavors is hazelnut and this one did not disappoint. The gelato was probably the second best I ever had. The best was Mario Batali's quince flavor but I can hardly expect Pitango to compete with that. I would definitely make the trip to go back to Pitango, especially to try out the grape.
(4)Julie D.
We stopped at Pitango after our Bertha's experience. Cute little store, we decided to share a small pistachio. It was not what I was expecting, no sign of any nuts, they were totally pulverized into nothingness. The flavor was very natural, not too sweet or sugary. Very good gelato, not the best that I have ever had. But pretty close. And it was very relaxing sitting outside on the sidewalk benches on this quiet charming little street!
(4)Kristal V.
Pitango = crazy delicious. I had the Sicilian almond + chocolate hazelnut. Ever since I studied abroad in Italy I have been looking for gelato in the States that matches the experience of an Italian gelateria, and I have finally found it. Too bad Pitango is in Baltimore and I live in DC. :(
(5)C J.
Everyone says this is the best gelato in the city... I couldn't argue! The rhubarb is delicious and highly recommended! I also had the pistachio which was also fantastic. I like that they use local products for their desserts!
(4)karmin m.
THE best! It always makes me so happy, and with too many tempting choices for flavors. (Can't tell you my favorite, 'cause I'd have to kill ya, so you don't eat it all!) Every person who's ever scooped my order has been very cool and pleasant too! I go out of my way to get it, year-round, no problem... I want some now!!!
(5)patti K.
Authentic gelato, delicious! The sipping chocolate is perfect and generously served. Come open a store in Pittsburgh!
(5)R I.
Good gelato, but sooooooo expensive, not really worth it, i've had about the same quality or better for much less Good if you have money to waste and are dying for gelato, otherwise save your money
(3)choad x.
Fantastic! Pistachio and Hazelnut were out of this world. This place is worth the drive from DC, given DC doesn't have a good gelato shop. When was the last time you had gelato that makes long peaks when you pull your spoon out, like whipped cream. Pretty awesome place. Same price as a pint of Ben and Jerry's but more than worth it.
(5)Thea C.
Fabulously gooooooooooooood gelatos! The closest to real Italian gelatos that I've tasted so far. Actually let me go so far as saying this is the only place in Baltimore that I'll go to for anything in the form of frozen cream, sorbet, etc. The people are so nice every time we go and they are more than encouraging about making you taste all the flavors. It all tastes so good it's so hard to decide! Yes, they are a bit pricy at about $7 for a medium (3 scoops) and $9 for a pint but the ingredients are all top-notch and in turn, a good bowl of gelato indeed! Things I've tried and are very good are: the spicy chocolate, coconut, grapefruit, pistachio, bourbon vanilla and mojito. They also have some coffee with ice cream drinks that I will definitely try next time I'm there. Definitely one of my favorite dessert places in Baltimore!
(4)Chelsea S.
Worth every delicious cold little bite. Their hot chocolate is some of the best I've ever tasted. The staff are beyond friendly. My favorite combo is the chocolate noir and the raspberry. Truly perfect.
(5)Ryan C.
I haven't come across anywhere as good as Capogiro Gelato in Philly until stopping in here - absolutely delicious! I had the mojito sorbet and the boubon vanilla gelato, with the dark drinking chocolate, I was in heaven for days...
(5)Elsie W.
I stopped by Pitango while visiting a friend in Baltimore this weekend and was amazed by their selection of gelato and sorbets. I tried a bunch of flavors (the woman behind the counter was super-nice about it!) and finally settled on a cup of half white grapefruit and half concord grape. The concord grape was delicious and the tartness of the grapefruit complemented the sweetness of the grape perfectly! My friend ordered the spicy chocolate and pistachio, which were both very tasty as well. If I lived in Baltimore, I would definitely come here often.
(4)sofia v.
hazelnut gelato!!! nuff said!!
(5)Philip N.
I got the mango and it was amazing. It was like a full experience in my mouth. Utterly amazing.
(5)Melinda F.
OMG simply the BEST!
(5)Dave P.
I came to Baltimore on vacation and my sister's boyfriend and I stopped in here while the girls were shopping. I've tried gelato in Chicago but wow, this gelato is great. The decor in this place feels new and classy. The employees are really nice, too. They also give free samples. I'm a bit picky so i got the half chocolate half chocolate chip. Mmm... i miss it already.
(5)Glaciala A.
This is definitely the best gelato I have ever had in the DC area, or anywhere for that matter. I tried I tried cinnamon vanilla and a granny smith apple flavor. Both were absolutely amazing. While it is a little pricey, it's definitely worth it in comparison to other places.
(5)John Chase M.
Go forth and binge. Amazing chocolate. Almost orgasmic.
(5)Nick B.
This was one of my first experiences with gelato. I believe when I went there, they must have just opened up. I was very impressed with the number of options and the quality of the gelato. The ordering process was a little complicated... I just wanted one flavor, but the server insisted i get more then one - so I obliged. I didn't know that the extra flavors would be more, but that is fine. I wish the portions were bigger for the price, but it was one of the highlights of my failed "vacation" to Maryland.
(4)Jess P.
This is the best gelato I've had since my trip to Florence a couple summers ago. I had the bourbon vanilla and chocolate hazelnut, both of which were amazingly creamy and delicious. I sat outside the place and ate them, while a vagabond-type guy serenaded the little strip of park with guitar-and-vocal covers of classic rock hits like "Me and Bobby McGee" and "Ramblin Man." It was rather blissful.
(5)Sansanee S.
Just went there to try "spicy chocolate" as friend recommended, but they did not have it. I tried chocolate noir (rich-semi sweet) and quince sorbet. Quince is so great, like marriage between pear & lemon sorbet.
(4)Eric P.
Pitango offers superb gelato and sorbets, all made with organic, and sometimes very unique, ingredients. The portions small portions will leave you pleasantly satisfied -- the gelato would probably be deadly if too large. The prices are fair for the quality, but a bit steep for Baltimore. You wonder why they chose Fell's Point in Baltimore over, say, Georgetown in DC... oh well, we'll keep all the great desserts we can get!
(4)Hannah S.
Pitango's has GREAT gelato. Its super creamy and heavy, just the way gelato should be. The only downside is that its pretty expensive. Make sure you mix a few flavors - the combinations they suggest are great. My favorite is the chocolate hazelnut, it tastes just like Nutella. The black tea was also really good - the black tea taste was pretty strong. Ask for tastes, then decide what you want! Also, their hot chocolate is great during the cold days, its super thick and creamy as well. If you like spicy stuff, the spicy hot chocolate is also really interesting!
(5)Jenn G.
Chose the vanilla chocolate chip and the chocolate hazelnut, both incredible. Second time had the pistachio and chocolate hazelnut, delicious. Third visit had the pistachio and something with almond. Definitely the winner. Only downfall is it's a bit pricy, but I'll go anyway, also, it's about 9 hours from home. :(
(5)Joe C.
First rate gelato and coffee shop. Super fresh. Coffee was well made. Extremely tasty.
(5)Jennifer R.
This is the BEST Gelato I have ever tasted. Better than Vaccaro's (although I do love their other desserts). The chocolate and madagascar bourbon vanilla are simple but SO so great. The texture and taste is unbelievable - like nothing I've every tasted before - so smooth and rich. Despite the high price, it is very much worth every penny and I'd rather spend $4 on a tiny cup of this than $3 on something crappy. Besides compared to Coldstone it's about the same price and much much better. Definitely go and check it out - they have tons of flavors all homemade with no articial flavors or colors. It doesn't get better than this!!!
(5)kevin k.
darn. i am not the first. oh well. this is the trend these days. luxury taste and high price. this was one of better i ever had. clean deco and clear taste. too bad fells point is not as good of place. i still like fells point but it could be better. i will come back to thisplace.
(4)jen f.
The gelato is great, read other reviews for that. (Ditto on the Sicilian Almond being the best.) I'm here to write that I've found the WORLD'S BEST HOT CHOCOLATE. I haven't tried all the hot chocolate in the world but until I do, this is #1. We were in Baltimore a few days after the Inauguration (yes, that one) and it was fuh-reeheezing. We went in for gelato, but when I saw they had hot chocolate, it was over. I had the Gianduja, which was pretty much like drinking melted Nutella, only better. The prices were steep but worth it. I'll happily pay more to a company that uses local eggs (fresh EVERY morning) and doesn't use anything artificial. Good job, Pitango. Now. Can we get one in Houston?
(5)Saskia S.
We hit up Pitango AFTER the sushi hour extravaganza (see my RA review)..so I think I'll have to try their gelato at least once more to be totally fair. First impression, even though I was really full was that the gelato was good, but not 5 star worthy. The green tea gelato was creamy but not bitter (just like their description!), and the spicy chocolate was spicy. And while it was a nice experience, I didn't feel extra excited. And I'm a big dessert girl. Usually I get extra excited. I'll give it 3 stars for now and come back again sometime soon..
(3)Blythe K.
Lots of flavors, although pricey. I ordered a caffe espresso gelato and was surprised when they set down an actual espresso in front of me. The server corrected the mistake immediately even though it was probably my fault for not speaking clearly enough in a loud-ish environment. The black tea gelato is the best thing we've tried. I'll be back!
(4)Julie H.
Is gelato allowed to be beautiful? The store - or at least the gelato counter - is almost too beautiful for the surrounding neighborhood. I must have spent an equal amount of time staring at the gelato counter as I did contemplating the flavors. Beautiful round stainless steel containers full of gelato fit perfectly into the countertop, each container covered with a brilliantly shiny lid - it was akin to a dazzling row of glass candy jars in old-fashioned candy shops. No restaurant-grade stainless rectangle troughs for Pitango. It seems only refined perfectly shiny canisters would do. Even when I install a gelato bar in my dream house I doubt the gelato I make will be half as amazing as Pitango's. With at least half the flavors locally sourced (wineberries, strawberries, Zeke's coffee) and the other half from far-flung exotic locales (Bourbon vanilla, pistachio, hazelnut) choosing flavors is no small task. You'll find useful descriptions on the wall with flavors of the moment, though the girls behind the counter are more than happy to hand out samples and describe flavors further. I found myself with a regular cup of white grapefruit and chocolate noir ($4, two flavors, the smallest size that comes in either a cup or cone). The grapefruit was clean, fruity, with a zesty finish that makes me remember I don't eat a grapefruit everyday and I really ought to (Or rather, that I would not mind eating grapefruit gelato everyday). The chocolate noir was a dark chocolate gelato with small chunks of chocolate blended in - rich, complex, like eating a square of expensive chocolate. It feels silly, but I really do want to describe Pitango gelato as "complex." Though I'm making Pitango sound stuffy and pretentious, the store is really anything but. The girls serving gelato were quite friendly and patient, and the store was abuzz with visitors to the harbor. Pitango Gelato certainly proves that gelato can be a beautiful thing.
(4)Kim-Son T.
Stopped off here on a cold day just to cleanse my palate from a nearby luncheon. I had the Pistachio and Chocolate Hazelnut gelato combo. Along with a side order of coffee, this made for a great aftertaste.
(4)Emily C.
oh em gee. mojito gelato!!! so ridiculously good. sampled the matcha green tea as well as the spicy chocolate. The spicy chocolate was good, but it's really got a kick and I don't think I could handle a whole serving of it. Kind of on the expensive side; a regular (about the size of a kiddie cup anywhere else) was $4.85. And it's not any better than the 1 euro gelato they serve all over Italy. Take advantage and sample as many flavors as you want before you decide.
(4)Dan Y.
Best gelato hands down. Texture is right and the different flavors are all great. If you see a line don't worry it moves pretty fast. And it is really worth the wait.
(5)Matthew L.
I've been going to Pitango for the last couple of years and I'll have to say that it is the best frozen treat place in Baltimore. The obvious downside is the seating, or lack there of. Seriously, no where to sit. I'm definately a huge fan and love the experience from getting the tasters at the beginning to trying to pick the perfect combo. So far my favorite combos are granny smith apple paired with a caramel gelato. I also like Hazelnut paired with Coffee. They also have really great coffee and a super rich hot chocolate. I have noticed lately it has been taking a bit of a hit with some other newer places opening, but I will vouch that there is NOTHING better for frozen treats in Baltimore.
(5)Mabel T.
I love the variety of flavors they have here!! My ultimate favorite is their chocolate hazelnut -- so creamy and delicious. But I've also had their cardamom, almond pistachio, spicy chocolate, and green tea and have never been disappointed. Their regular portion is pretty decently sized, so I almost always split one with a friend. You can also mix your flavors if you can't decide which one you want. Once you visit this place, you will always want to come back.
(5)Amanda D.
This place is super cute and makes me feel better about eating ice cream than if I had gone to Baskin Robbins. I came here with a friend of mine and we had to split a cup, since it was more expensive than we had anticipated. But we had Bourbon Vanilla and the Chocolate Noir, which was pretty amazing. I also tasted the Concord Grape, which was interesting, but not what I look for when I eat gelato.
(3)deb y.
I've never been to Italy so I can't really gauge how authentic Pitango is, but their gelato was abso delicioso. I sampled their spicy chocolate and it def had an interesting kick of heat to it and I would've gotten it had it not been so sticky hot out. I ended up getting their bourbon vanilla and chocolat noir which were two very rich and flavorful choices. My friends had hazelnut, green tea, and chocolate which they enjoyed as well. Next time, I must try their concord grape sorbet!
(4)Su K.
youtube.com/watch?v=dQsj… There was something in the air that night The stars were bright, Pitango Three flavors there for you and me For $6.50, Pitango Though your flavors were not on display There's no regret If I had to do the same again I would, my friend, Pitango --------------------- I've been eagerly awaiting to try Pitango for some time now and I wasn't disappointed by the flavors or the consistency. I was slightly disappointed by the lack of presentation, however, as I've grown accustomed to the gelato displays at other purveyors - Pitango simply has their gelato covered in silver containers. Not a huge deal, but part of the allure for me with gelato--and the justification for the higher prices--is the delicious displays. Not only are the displays enticing, but they also tell you which flavors got a lot of action that day, and with mysterious flavors like Fior di Latte and spicy chocolate, it'd be nice to know which ones customers have been avoiding. This merely felt like Baskin Robbins or any other scoop place. Additionally, $6.50 for 3 relatively meager scoops ( static2.px.yelpcdn.com/p… ) is no way to treat me, my friend, Pitango. Still, it's probably the best gelato I've tried thus far and an excellent treat if you're in Charm City.
(4)Catherine K.
It's basically impossible for me to walk by a gelato shop without at least stopping in for a look. So I stopped in for a look and what greeted me was an amazing array of fresh flavors. And when I say "fresh," I don't mean, "based on something that resembles a fruit." I mean, "tastes like the Garden of Eden." Mango, concord grape, spicy chocolate, pistachio, rhubarb, fig...The flavors seem to change somewhat regularly, and all of them are absolutely delicious. Last time I combined the rhubarb and green tea. My partners-in-crime tried the pistachio, spicy chocolate, and cinnamon. I can't convey in writing how green tea-y the green tea was, nor how rhubarb-y the rhubarb was. You just have to take my word for it; or better yet, go try some yourself. You won't regret it. Plus! Illy coffee! You can sit yourself down on the modern stools and pretend you're in Italy. Or you can walk to the harbor with your gelato cone and appreciate that B'more has such a great gelato shop. $4.50ish for 2 flavors, $6.50ish for three. I know, it's a splurge. But I still give it 5 stars because I know that every time I'm in the neighborhood, I will buy some.

Lots of very unique flavors, and they have great coffee as well
(5)Angelica G.
Gelato flavors are varied and delicious! For a regular you can mix two scoops, go for the Hazelnut Chocolate and Espresso, it tastes like a beautiful nutella latte in gelato form.
(4)Eric E.
Hands down best gelato I have ever had. The most important thing I can say is that every flavor I tried tasted fresh and real. Not imitation or artificially flavored. My favorite was the coconut which tasted like it was made from coconut milk. 2nd fav was the pistachio! AMAZING!

Four days, three locations--need I say more? We stopped in to the Penn Quarter location in DC one night after dinner at Hill Country BBQ and were absolutely wowed by the Mojito sorbet. We had to come back...again...and again...and again. The gelatos we sampled were all good, but I would take the sorbets any day. A close second and third to the mojito were quince and apricot. It is pricey, but worth every dollar!
(5)Geoff c.
by far the best gelato i've every tried (though i have not travelled very extensively through europe, nor have i been to italy) i dont understand how people can compare capogiro to this place. staff is super friendly. patient. and willing to let you sample everything. concorde grape and white grapefruit. my usual go to flavors. not 5 stars only because its pricey for the sizes. but i think its worth it. everything is made in-house. ingredients are meticulously picked.
(4)Jennifer W.
Awesome gelato -- worth the price tag!
(5)Laura C.
Undoubtedly the best gelato we've ever had! Stopped by Pitango Gelato after walking through Fells Point looking for dessert one night and were blown away by the spicy dark chocolate and banana combo. Great service, low-key, terrific flavors, perfect gelato. Liked it so much, we stopped by on our way out of Baltimore the next day!

UPDATE: 6/10/08 Now that summer has come, I have been visiting Pitango every week! Their sorbets are fruity, refreshing and not to sweet. On a hot day you can't go wrong with their grapefruit or green apple. Their gelato on the other hand is rich, smooth and creamy. I love how creative they are with their flavors and how often they have new flavors to try. I love the spicy chocolate which has a nice little kick at the end. The staff is friendly and very generous with the free samples. They are more than willing to help you find the flavor you didn't even know you were craving. Also, at first I thought the price was a bit high, but then it hit me that in California, gelato stores charge by WEIGHT. The prices at Pitango are actually very fair considering the amount they pile into your cup. --------------------------------------------------Â---------------------------------------- Amaaaazing gelato. Beautiful, chic, modern ice cream shop. A little bougie and expensive, but if you are looking for a delicious treat, this is it. My favorites so far are the pistachio and the mohito.
(5)Gomer K.
The girl working there was very sweet and didn't seem to mind that we wanted to taste about 6 different flavors. She made some great recommendations and described the flavors really well. The gelato itself was some of the best I've had. I had the pistachio (awesome) mixed with the chocolate noir (even though I'm not a big chocolate fan) and it was delicious. I also tried the spicy chocolate sorbet and that was great too. It is a little pricey but everything is recycled, organic, and free trade so maybe that's worth it to some people??
(4)Mark M.
Good quality gelato, with some interesting flavors. The first time I went here I got their Spicy Chocolate mixed with Pistachio. It was the perfect Yin Yang experience. Anytime I went back I got that same combo because why mess with perfection?
(4)Yelp Fan F.
The reviews on yelp had me really excited and I made note of people's recommendations about flavors. When I got there, they did not have rhubarb, quince, raspberry, bourbon etc. The girl behind the counter let me sample 3 flavors and then looked at me with the look of "well, decide quickly", so I meekly did. Had a combo pistachio, hazelnut choc and vanilla choc chips. They were fine, though the hazelnut-chocolate was bitterish. All in all, I was not wowed.
(3)Mae S.
one word: affogato! (That means espresso with ice cream and it's out of this world.)
(5)Ria S.
I love Pitango. Their gelato is fresh, full of flavor, authentic, and airy. The best gelato place in Baltimore by far. I find Vaccaro's gelato too heavy and sugary, more like a super-fatty ice cream than gelato. Pitango also sources their ingredients locally when possible, and is very eco-conscious. It's a win-win, all around.
(4)Emily C.
OMG - mouthgasm, organigasm, delicious! Finally remembered the name of this little (and I mean little we circled the shops 3 times before coming back to get in a smaller line) gem of a gelato shop. But wait, what would I be doing in a gelato shop?? Getting the world's best sorbet - that's what!! We had the apple, I can' even begin to describe how good this was, wineberry and strawberry. I have read local reviews that claim this place is pricey, but you know what - I challenge these nay sayers to deal with the costly crap they serve here at Cold Stone Creamery and then complain about cost. Sure it was almost $6 for 3 flavors but hey - its organic and I am worth it - so are you!
(5)Wendy C.
"Organic" is in their motto, But we only cared about the taste of their famous gelato. After our big feast of Bertha's mussels next door, We still had room for dessert when we came here around 4. At first we didn't know which flavors to choose, So they let us try a few samples before deciding on 2. I ended up getting pistachio & dark chocolate orange in a 4oz cup. Sounds small, but the rich taste brought my blood sugar level way way up. The pistachio is rich, creamy, and dense. Its natural nutty flavor is so immense. The dark chocolate orange is silky and smooth. Its intense flavor satisfied my sweet tooth. So many awesome flavors it's hard to narrow down a favorite. It's best to try a few at a time and savor it.
(5)Carrie L.
A couple of visits later, I see they have sorbet on the menu. I'm not sure if it's seasonal or new. Perhaps I never noticed it before. I had mint mojito sorbet which was out of this world. Absolutely amazing--so saturated with flavor, I could hardly believe it was sorbet. I also had a grapefruit sorbet, which was good, but I think I should not have mixed the two. They did not go together so well.
(5)Emily P.
This place is just delicious. That is all. Chocolate noir is amazing-- chocolate sorbet. Mixed with hazelnut? Yes please.
(5)Corrine M.
I am a frozen treat snob and well...HEAVEN
(5)Maria J.
This gelato is AMAZING! I spent three days in Baltimore and went to Pitango's on both days. I had the pistachio, banana, and almond flavors. You can sample as many flavors as you want before you decide, and you can get up to two flavors in a small cup. The texture is smooth and creamy and utterly delicious. Go here even if it takes you out of your way. It's worth it.
(5)Galit d.
By far some of the best gelato in the us that I've ever tasted. Competes very closely with cup o giro in Philadelphia. Smooth texture. Flavors genuine and taste like the real thing, not flavoring.
(5)Callie N.
Pitango not only has some of the best gelato I've tasted outside of Rome (ever been to San Crispino?), it is also one of the blessed few places in Baltimore that serves a decent shot of espresso. The store is immaculate, the interior design and branding is also simply beautiful. I love this place. I wish there was one on Bolton Hill.....
(5)Valery C.
During my yearly crab outings from NYC, I try to make sure I hit up Pitango for dessert before going home. Until I tried Pitango, I was mostly unimpressed with gelato. Pitango, a gelato/sorbet company with a few shops in the Baltimore/Washington DC area, are committed to very high quality ingredients for their products. Their flavors are often seasonal and vary. I've only been to the shop in Fell's Point, Baltimore. Located in the plaza area, its a small shop with minimalistic decor and a few high tables by the front windows. The flavor menu is located on the right wall upon entering, each flavor in its own frame, with a detailed description. What really struck me about Pitango the first time I had their gelato/sorbet and every time since, are the fresh, clean flavors that really taste like their ingredients. With some flavors, this can be very intense. With others, its more subtle. Always, there are no artificial tastes, no excess sweetness, no aftertastes. Although it varies a bit by flavor, the gelato is usually very creamy and substantial, yet not cloying nor heavy. I've probably tried at least 10 different flavors, either my own or sampled from friends, over the past few yrs. My own choices this visit had the least "wow" impression than previous, but I'd chalk it up to the particular choices I made. I had the yogurt gelato, white grapefruit sorbet, and spicy chocolate gelato on this visit. The yogurt has a light sour tang (but I still like the bold, creamier frozen yogurt of Bloomingdale's better), white grapefruit was refreshing, super light, but possibly a touch too light in flavor, and the spicy chocolate was richly dark, with a slight spicy kick, but was also the most runny in texture. I sampled a mojito sorbet (very yummy, very mojito-ish), crema gelato (interesting rich flavor), banana gelato (very light), dark orange chocolate (really liked this one, the orange flavor blended with a deep dark chocolate), and gianduja/chocolate hazelnut gelato (a classic Italian flavor, very well executed). Staff are friendly and fairly efficient. You can try flavors before ordering. Prices are definitely on the expensive side, but very reasonable considering this isn't run-of-the-mill gelato/sorbet. The quality and ingredient sources have a lot to do with why they're really great.
(4)Jennifer K.
The gelato is really good, although I got the dark chocolate, and it was so rich I had to throw some of it away :( If you get a taster, don't throw away your spoon, cuz the girl will yell at you! (oops.......... I guess there is a small plastic spoon shortage...?). They even let you mix flavors. The store is really cute, too, with plenty of places to sit right outside and chow down.
(4)Peter M.
Long lines must mean something, right? Turns out everyone was lining up for some classic gelato. Wonderful service, and decent prices makes this experience memorable. Highly recommend the chocolate noir and sicilian almonds or cinnamon and banana. Yum. Actually it's all amazing. Try it all!!
(4)Jasmine L.
excellent. fresh. organic. clean. generous portions to taste and excellent choice of flavor. i had the pear and grape combo as well as their iced coffee. their coffee is espresso-based and although it did keep me up for hours thereafter, i enjoyed it very much. Pitango Gelato is located in a cute area and we were able to check out the flea market that was across the street.
(4)Janet C.
yuuuuurrrrmmmm. i had a affogato - two shots of espresso plus vanilla gelato = hella wired me. the others had a cup of hazelnut, mojito, and pistachio, all of which were tasty. not a ton of seating, but the few chairs they had were like the eames molded plastic chairs w/ the eiffel bases. free wifi, supposedly, but im not sure how welcoming they would be if youre taking up one of the 5 chairs there for hours at a time.
(4)Sam B.
My god. The affogato (hazelnut gelato with a shot of espresso, in my case), and the pistachio gelato will both haunt me. I just moved away, but need to get back there.
(5)Sarah W.
SO GOOD SO GOOD SO GOOD. Love that the flavors change, love that I can get two diff kinds at once, love that I haven't met a flavor I haven't liked. Black tea and choc hazelnut is my current favorite combo, but I'm sure that will change like next week when I find my new favorite flavors. Seriously, Pitango is so good. Once I got it in the middle of December when it was snowing and didn't care that I could feel hypothermia setting in.
(5)Queenie T.
Super rich and creamy! I had coconut and pistachio. The coconut was much more up front in flavor and the pistachio came through more when you let it sit on your tongue. I liked the pistachio more than the coconut, so I was kind of sad that I had a lot more coconut than pistachio. The gelato is pretty dense, and I wish I'd tried a sorbet to balance the richness, especially because the flavors sounded so good. Though the texture was good, I would've preferred if the flavors had come through more. Also, the tiny regular cup is a pretty good portion because the gelato is so thick and rich, but I'd hesitate to spend $5 on that again.
(3)Jamie M.
The gelato tastes and feels watered down. Perhaps they water down the milk? Not good quality or texture. The reason I say this is because I routinely make homemade gelato myself, using the highest quality ingredients, and my gelato blows this place out of the water. My gelato has never tasted or felt so watery as Pitango's. The service is deplorable. The employee who served us our gelato had a bit of an attitude. One of those people who attempts to joke around with you in an offensive way, but because you're complete strangers, it comes off as rude. Then, when we went to go sit down, I noticed a puddle of liquid in my chair. I'm happy I noticed it before sitting down in it, because after closer inspection, I discovered it was urine. I get it, sometimes kids have accidents, but the employees should have been keeping the dining area much tidier than it was. I approached the counter to get someone's attention to come and clean it up, and waited 5 minutes. Meanwhile, my gelato back at the table was rapidly melting. Finally, an employee came over to our table with a washcloth-- no sanitizing spay whatsoever-- and I warned her that it was urine and that she should use sanitizing spray. Well, she did not. She just proceeded to wipe it down with a wet cloth and walked away. Ick.
(1)Connie H.
Cardamom, pistachio, chocolate hazelnut, orange dark chocolate, rhubarb, mango, vanilla choco chips, etc... = YUM. Two scoops for $5.45. Get it while it's hawt!
(4)Robert C.
I think I tried almost every flavor of gelato in this place and I couldn't find one that I didn't like. The service was awesome, the flavors are unique and the source their ingredients is pretty eco friendly. You get two flavors in the small size and three in the larger. Sure the pricing is a bit high, but honestly I'll be back to try various flavor combinations and to work on the second layer of my muffin top. The first time we went there was a line out the door, the second time during off peak hours it was pretty manageable (around 2PM). There are a few seats in there, but not many as most people grab and go.. I haven't had any of the drinks, but if they follow suit with the awesomeness of the gelato, it might be worth a try.
(5)Kim M.
Delicious freshly created gelato at its finest!!! We had the Black Tea, Chocolate Hazelnut, Cardamon and Pistachio. Wow!! So rich & heavenly!! The serving size is rather small so trying 1 or 2 flavors is a great idea. Love stopping here while strolling around Fells Point. Service is spot on & samples are always given!!
(5)Chantelle L.
Black tea gelato was bomb!!!!! And so was the stracciatella! The chocolate with chocolate chips also delicious! Lines nice quick, a bit overpriced but that doesn't stop anyone from coming in! Flavored of the day are on the wall! They also have coffees, tea, and much more. Definitely good but I must admit the Strawberry fields I go to in Virginia might just beat it. Baltimore, this will do for my sweet tooth!
(5)Susanna W.
Best gelato place ever! I've still been looking for a good substitute since moving away from Baltimore. The staff is super friendly and willing to explain the different flavors, anything that's new as well as let you sample as many flavors as you'd like. Try the green tea and black tea flavors, they're quite unique and very good. Also try the dipping hot chocolate with your gelato!
(5)Christopher W.
I am a very seldom gelato eater, however, when I do I make sure it counts... pitango is one of those places that makes sure it counts as long as the flavor you crave is available. Pitango makes everything fresh and uses the best ingredients available. Heck even their coffee which I usually get when the wifey wants a gelato is kick@$$. So what is there not to like? maybe that line of people trying every flavor before they order =)
(4)Tiffany L.
They had a lot of flavors but it was very pricey for gelato. It was 5.85 of a regular cup of gelato with 2 mixed flavors. I really like the mojito and mango sorbet. It might be a bit tart for others. Just try as much flavor as you like before you purchase. It's so expensive, so make sure you really like it before you order it.
(4)Robin P.
Forgot to check in the other day when family was here from Delaware. This place is my new favorite of favorites because they have dairy-free gelato...and when said dairy-free is in the form of "Chocolate Noir" (deep, dark chocolate gelato with dark chocolate chunks), you have both my heart and my spirit. There is nothing finer to me than enjoying an "ice cream" with family on a warm summer day - I so, so appreciate the fact that the lack of dairy will keep ME very happy after the indulgence. The service was impeccable. The store was clean and neat as a pin. I love both of those things in and of themselves but when you add sweets I can eat to the mix? I'm sold... completely sold and happy, HAPPY to have found this place! I will see you again, and on a regular basis... :)
(5)Michael M.
This is filling in the gelato shortage in Fells just nicely! The coffee house feel is cool, the flavors are amazing and the service is perfect every time. I try to come once a week to try a new flavor. So I don't check in so people don't know I'm really a husky kid on the inside!
(5)Sonya L.
Everything about this place is excellence. Their hand crafted gelato is one-of-a-kind. The flavors are spot on and so unique with choices such as cardamom, black tea and orange dark chocolate. They also have the usual, bacio, nocciola, pistachio and stracciatella. Some are dairy free as well for the vegans out there. The line is always out the door and you may wait about 5 minutes to get up to the counter but it's worth it. The staff is so helpful and will let you taste and take your time choosing. It's an experience when you come here. They also keep it impeccably clean. The portions are a perfect size (probably how they should be given), unlike when you go to an ice cream shop and are given 3 cups of ice cream on a cone. We love this place and go all the time.
(5)Katie P.
I'm probably going to become a regular, good thing I don't live close. While my fiancé & I were walking around fells late last week, we stumbled upon this gem! I had studied abroad in Europe during college & have been dying for a gelato place since then. 5 stars all around. The young ladies working at the time were super friendly & offered us samples before we picked out our flavors. I went with lemon & raspberry (it was my favorite combo while in Italy), my fiancé got vanilla chocolate chip & chocolate chip. The two separate combinations of flavor were amazing! If you're in Fells & in the mood for something sweet, this needs to be your stop!
(5)Herbie H.
To be honest, I did not order anything. That being said, I sampled everything each of my friends ordered (Whoops!) I sampled: milk & honey, mango, cardamom, vanilla, and chocolate. All of them were absolutely delicious. My favorites being the milk & honey and the mango. From what I was told, they are constantly changing and updating their flavors (I would bet as products go in and out of season), which is admirable and a sign that they really value their product and what goes into it.
(5)Tina W.
Hey, yeah! This is a really good start of my sweet teeth road trip in 2015. My experience in Baltimore is brightened by this store! Thank you so much. Location: In the fell town? fell point? I don't remember much of the exactly location. Basically, if you took water taxi from inner harbor and got off at the first stop, you would be in a nice neighborhood where lots of food was happening there. But take a walk for 3 mins to the market area, you will see this store located probably on your left hand. Yeah, do you see the green signal said Pitango, Yep, the right spot. Don't be afraid by its lovely but simple decoration. Just get in and you will see their available flavor on the wall. Wow, yeah, isn't it so many choices that you just suddenly not sure which one you would go for? No problem, ask them for sampling. The nice staff who can hardly found in Baltimore would serve you as much as you want. Okay, that;s my basic experience. Gelato: Perfect. I do not prefer gelato, which are too sweet. So this place is perfectly good for me. I love their halznut chocolate, green tea and black tea. Although black tea seemed a little bit off the flavor, green tea is perfect. So is halznut chocolate! Price: I had three flavors cup, which should be a bigger size. But I was wrong, it was as small as two flavor cup. You know when you are addicted to ice cream, you just cannot easily get stopped. So the small cup just unsatisfied my greedy of their gelato. Also, price is bit too much. Three flavor is 7, two is almost 6. With that amount of ice cream, I doubt the price could be that high even though it is pretty good! Overall: Based on the food, it's a 4. Service + 0.5. And price... okay, let's forget about the price issue. A 4.5 - definitely you should try in Baltimore!
(4)Farha A.
I'm not a fan of sweets/ice-cream but this place is one of the rare exceptions. I had the pear flavored gelato, and it tasted so authentic and real I wanted to go back for more. They let you choose multiple flavors (2 for a small, I believe), and let you sample a bunch before deciding. The service was friendly and overall I would go back just for the pear flavored gelato. I've been searching places for this flavor ever since and have been unable to find it!
(4)Nida K.
Wow! I love when you judge the outside of a store by it's cover, stumble in, and it's the best thing you've put in your mouth all day (i know, that's what she said). But seriously, just because it's winter in Baltimore doesn't mean anything. Personally, I crave ice cream when it's cold outside and this was the perfect treat after walking around the entire city by myself. All of the flavors I tried tasted refreshing and not at all artificial. You could tell this was high quality stuff. In the end, I decided on two flavors: pistachio (yum) and black tea (extra yum). Sooo good, I wish I had some right now.
(5)Ann K.
Located in the heart of Fells surrounded by lots to do and great scenery. The line is usually out the door, but it moves pretty steadily. Okay, so I may be known for being a cheapskate, but I pay when it's worth it and this is one of the things that I indulge in with my eyes closed so I don't have to look at the price tag BUT I have found a way to enjoy it with less guilt. All you have to do is pay $14 for the ginormous styrofoam tub and bring a couple of friends to share with! You can get 3 different flavors and the value is phenomenal. Don't pay darn near $7 for a that tiny misleading cup (I was mad when I looked at the underside of their small cup). Even if you only have two people, just take the rest home and save it for your next midnight craving! The consistency of the gelato is always on point, they have a wide variety of flavors which are mostly all great and they boast hand-made organic sorbets with no artificial ingredients. Done deal. I get pretty sad when they don't have espresso on the menu which is my favorite, but they have so many great flavors that it's never a deterrent. The milk and honey, lemon, hazelnut and strawberry are my top choices. The black sesame is also good, but a little too strong in the sesame department and might be the only flavor that I try to avoid unless I'm really in the mood. I tried affogato for the the first time here and fell in love. I usually get any gelato flavor that has vanilla in it to go with the espresso. Whoever discovered this is a genius I'd say!
(5)Angelique A.
Top notch! All the flavors are exactly on point. I had the white pomelo and the pomegranate and both were extremely delicious. The cardamom was also delicious. Not to be missed if you are around Baltimore.
(5)Annie G.
I came here last week with my roommates and friends. I sampled a few types of gelato and sorbet before to get an affogato with chocolate hazelnut gelato. The gelato was creamy and reminded me of Nutella. The sweetness of the gelato balanced out with the espresso. It was the perfect pick me up during the afternoon slump. I definitely will come back to try out the other flavors.
(5)Sarah V.
Amazing! I tried the vanilla, hazelnut, coconut choco chip, and chocolate hazelnut. All so good! Creamy delicious goodness. Best part is you can get two flavors in a cup.
(5)Andrei K.
Great icecreams, probably the best ones I've tried in the US. Unfortunately the choice of flavors they have is pretty limited, but for the ones they have, it is really great!
(5)Linzy L.
I absolutely love this place. The guy behind the counter was so nice and helpful. I am always indecisive and he was not only patient with me but helped me make my decisions. I got a cold brew coffee. It was really good. I didn't need to add sugar or milk to it. It was a little pricy, but worth it. I tried 2 flavors of Gelato. Both were amazing. They make everything in house. You can tell the people here take pride in what they do. It was so good. I tried the chocolate hazelnut and the black tea. The chocolate hazelnut was my favorite but the tea flavor was really good too and it was very different. I will definitely come back.
(5)Emma W.
The one, the original Piiiiiitango!! And yes, I have been to the other locations in DC. Somehow it just not the same. I reminisce to when they first opened and there was a line out the door to this new place. And i was one if those people... things have not changed. The line is still out the door! Only on a cold day may the line be a little bit shorter! Ha! Summertime... wintertime... Anytime! Gelato and sorbet. Only made from natural ingredients. From local farms... Enough! On to the gelato! Try as many as you want. The servers are helpful and want you to try as many as you need. Which could be all of them... they do have seasonal flavors too. Right mow I'm in love with the Cardamom gelato and pistachio gelato. I like the fruit sorbets too... So in winter, i always get the hot chocolate with a scoop of gelato mixed in... heaven! So there aren't a lot of tables or seats, but there are benches outside and a harbor to peer at if you are so inclined...
(5)Stella L.
My go-to place for gelato in Baltimore! My favorites are hazelnut and pistachio! You can taste any flavor before ordering. If you like coffee, then you may want to try an affogato which is a scoop of gelato plus espresso. The only downside of this place is the price, but that being said, I think it is worth it. Otherwise why would I come here almost every time I'm in Fells point?
(5)Spandana M.
Amazing experience! I highly recommend getting two flavors instead of just one since they have so many great flavors. The hazelnut and cardamom flavors are absolutely delicious. The gelato is creamy and soft. Definitely sample a few flavors before buying. The atmosphere is also great - casual and happy. Definitely stop by for dessert or snack.
(5)MG N.
Love Pitango! I always get the pistachio flavor or the hazelnut chocolate! Everytime i come to fells point I always have to get this, even if it's winter!
(5)Elaine W.
If you love ice cream and/or gelato, this is the place to go. There are some great and interesting flavors. The ladies at the counter were very nice and offered me to taste any of the flavors. I declined as I already knew what I wanted. But if you're the adventurous time, I suggest tasting the more exotic flavors. I chose the honey & milk gelato. It was sweet and smooth. The gelato isn't really freezing cold like ice cream, it stays at a warmer temperature than ice cream, I think. (I say this cause I ate it constantly and my mouth didn't get numb). Very delicious and will be back to try other flavors! :)
(4)Jen K.
So, so good. My favorite favors are white grapefruit and chocolate noir. The chocolate had a deep, pure flavor and contained delicious dark chocolate chips.
(5)Brandi N.
Cardamom and Orange Dark chocolate flavors are recommended!
(4)Christine A.
Are you craving for the ultimate gelato? Silky, dense, and flavor so good, you could smack yo Momma? This is not the place for that. It's good, it really is. But it doesn't really capture the wonders of gelato for me. When I think of gelato, I think of the most daring and unique flavor profiles, not airy like ice cream, and just pure heaven that you don't realize the absence of eggs and full fat cream, like in ice cream. I've been spoiled in California. Sorry Maryland, but this is not great gelato. The pockets of air and the mild, almost diluted flavors don't make this gelateria stand out above the rest. I would give it 3.5 stars, but I hesitate to round up. If you want better gelato, go to Paciugo Gelato at the Inner Harbor. They're a little more adventurous with their flavors. On another note, the cappuccinos, macchiatos, and Harney & Sons tea are delish!
(3)Ololade A.
This place is amazing always surprises me with the different flavors. Milk and honey, rhubarb, creama, black tea, and cardamom and some of the unique delicious flavors they serve. The menu is always changing so make sure to check in frequently. Some times I just wish they had larger servings! But all around delicious and of course I'll be back!
(5)Lavi W.
Very very tasty gelato. I tried black sesame, black tea, and white grapefruit. In love with the black tea gelato!!! It's such a great balance of the subtle tea flavor and sweetness and creaminess. Great combination. White grapefruit is very citrus, but I tasted ice crystals in it. Can you believe that I also had a affogato after finishing my cup of gelato. But the hazelnut gelato with sipping chocolate is pretty tasty! I like how they advertise themselves as natural and everything, but the picture on the wall calling industrial manufactured ice-cream/gelato with emulsifiers/additives the bad one is very very very offensive!!! I'm a food scientist and you have no idea how hard we work to make sure the ice-cream/gelato you can purchase at the grocery store can stay creamy and tasty in your freezer for months. It's just impossible for people to have access to handmade gelato like what's sold here 24/7.
(4)Anh N.
I had the hazelnut and pistachio. Both were quite disappointing and powdery tasting...artificial. The worst part of all was that the cone was stale. How can an ice cream/gelato shop have stale cones?! I had real gelato in Italy many times within the past year and wasn't expecting as great quality, but the difference was MAJOR. There were no real nuts inside either flavors at all and it left a powdery after taste with every lick/bite. Staff was nice though so +1 from the 1 star.
(2)Hilary A.
I'm OBSESSED. If you haven't tried it yet, gelato afogato with their sipping chocolate is the way to go. I'd recommend straciatella, personally. Eat it immediately because it melts quickly. It's a really good thing there isn't a Pitango where I live because I'd be there for this delicious treat every. single. day.

This place is really good. We went here on a rather warm evening in December which was perfect because Pitango was uncharacteristically not busy. The staff kindly offered for us to sample whatever we wanted - I was quickly drawn to the black tea gelato. This flavor was amazing, it genuinely tasted like a early gray tea latte and was very refreshing. The other favors we sampled were all good but this one really stood out. Sure, Pitango is a bit pricey but what gelato place isn't? Still less expensive than Kilwins around the corner. A couple of other nice things about Pitango is the modern yet simplistic interior with a coffee aroma permeating the storefront. Lastly, they use plastic spoons which I really prefer over their wooden counterparts. Did I mention try the black tea gelato?

Closest thing to the gelato I fell in love with in Italy - in some cases even better! The hazelnut (nocciola) - my original love - has been replaced by cardamom and green tea as my favorites, thanks to Pitango's creativity ... but they're not consistently available because Pitango varies its offerings. (Pitango has recently opened a bakery where Bonaparte's used to be in Fells Point. Their croissants don't measure up ... they should stick to gelato!)

Wow, just wow. Excellent craftsmanship and using the best possible ingredients is the hallmark of this cute hipster joint. Yes, its a bit pricey at $5.38 for a small, but they will put two flavors in there for you, and a little goes a long way. Totally worth the visit, and totally worth the $5, even on my tight budget. Folks, if you want to experience gelato/sorbetto heaven, visit Pitango Gelato.

Decided on some gelato after the Saturday Farmer's Market. There were a number of different flavors to choose from and each combo ended up good. We decided to get a giftcard as they were running a promo- $15 for a $20 card. And what's even cooler is that the giftcard is just a QR code, so if you have a picture of it on your phone and don't have the card with you it's no big deal.

PItango is a place for when you want something better than ice cream, but just as satisfying. There is a variety of flavors that they change daily. My favorite will always be the black tea. If you like cream in your tea, Pitango has successfully embodied that flavor into gelato form. The classic flavors are present daily - Gianduja (think Nutella gelato), Pistachio, Crema, Stracciatella amongst others. There are also fun flavors like Spicy Chocolate and Mojito (which is a sorbet). Part of the fun is also selecting combinations (although you can opt for one flavor) with the variety of gelato. Be sure to ask for samples, which the friendly and cheerful staff will give you a good portion to try. If you are in need of caffeine, I recommend an Affogato, a scoop of gelato over two shots of espresso. The location of Pitango is right in Fell's Point. After you get your order, you can people-watch through the wide open windows, or take a walk around the area with the streets made of brick (cobble stone?). Just to let future customers be aware, the price may be high for what is considered a small serving but I think it's reasonable for the quality of your product rather than the size.

Pitango has never disappointed me. The Pitango store front has a white and green color scheme and looks extremely modern, earthy, yet chic. I prefer eating in the actual store (when there is room...there's limited (s)eating area). I love that they have such a huge selection of gelato, from classic creamy flavors, such as chocolate chip vanilla gelato, to more sorbet type flavors, such as white grapefruit gelato. With a small cup (around $6) you can get two delicious flavors. I normally get the cardamom flavor paired with a sweet black tea...I believe the cardamom flavor is only found at this location and not in the other branches. The flavors really pop in your mouth. The gelato is smooth, rich, and creamy, and the flavors are never too sweet and taste very natural. You definitely won't feel sick after eating too much of this gelato. My favorite flavors other than the cardamom is the white grapefruit, which I was lucky enough to snatch a few bites of before my friend demolished an entire half-cup of it. The grapefruit taste is really nicely represented. The normal bitterness and citrusy bite that pops out when you bite into a grapefruit is still present in a bite of this sorbet-gelato. I come here to treat myself, but the price (a small cup is definitely very expensive for its size) is definitely an off-setter.
(5)Emily L.
This gelato is extremely rich and very flavorful - in the best ways. The varieties available are usually the same, but a few change seasonally, I recommend the hazelnut and raspberry. The one complaint I have is the wait staff was not very friendly sometimes but other than that I love this place! It's also great for kids and they are very generous with giving samples before you commit (which is great if you're indecisive like I am).
(4)Kendall R.
Amazing but very, very overpriced The gelato is great. The vanilla with chocolate chips (really like a vanilla blended with chocolate slivers) is incredible. Everything is great but I don't know if it's amazing enough to cost as much as it does. A small cup costs as much as a chipotle burrito. Too expensive for the tiny serving sizes.
(3)Frank L.
I've stopped in here a couple of times while exploring Fells Point. The gelato is very good, the service is okay, and the prices are okay. Unfortunately, the flavors are actually a bit limited, but hey, who doesn't love chocolate?
(3)Alli Z.
I've been to Italy and so has my friend, and we both agreed that this gelato was as close to the real thing as you can get! It is creamy, icy and oh so good. The hazelnut and vanilla chocolate chip is a perfect combination. The staff in there is really nice and helpful when you are trying to find good gelato combinations. Only downside is it's a little pricey for a small thing of gelato. Totally worth it though if you want an italian treat!

Has anyone else noticed that mashing spoonfuls of Pitango's gelato into your mouth doesn't make you thirsty like ice cream does? Well, the next time you leave Pitango, ask yourself "am I thirsty?". If your answer is no, well, then yuuum -- chances are, you probably just had some deliciously creamy gelato. As I attempted to scour the internet for a possible answer to englighten my fellow Yelpers, I realized that I would probably be telling you as much b.s. as the next self-published article. So, let's just go with the simple truth of: My existence is proof. Let it also be known as truth, that the way the staff at this Pitango location scoops your gelato looks daringly gourmet; that because they so patiently let you taste every flavor, it doesn't make you feel slightly guilty or pressure you into making a choice; that you will never be able to finish the large cup, and should probably go with a regular cup since you can still get 2 flavors... But your intellect be damned, because you get the large cup anyway. Teehee. FYI, a regular cup (their smaller size) is $5.78 and you can get two flavors.
(5)Katherine H.
Pitango Gelato is not JUST gelato despite the name. I actually found that a lot of their options are technically sorbet! Regardless, they have an abundance of flavors available (my personal favorite is milk and honey, but they also have a GREAT chocolate) with locally sourced and fresh ingredients. Feel free to mix and match if you have trouble choosing! If you feel compelled to balance out the cold, you can also order a local coffee. The price can be a bit high, but if you're already hanging out in Fells you might have been ready for that! Overall the gelato is great and it's a perfect place to go with friends on a summer day and grab some gelato to eat outside while people-watching.
(4)April A.
The chocolate noir (sorbet) was yummy, but my mango sorbet was gross. It tasted like there was ginger added in, the description for the mango didn't say much besides for organic mangoes used. I couldn't finish the mango, had to give it to my friend who eats just about anything-- he agreed that there was something off about the mango sorbet. The service was quick and friendly though. I'm surprised the chocolate noir was a sorbet though, if I didn't know better I would have thought it was gelato. My friend tried the milk & honey, he said it was delicious.
(3)Hannah C.
An absolute lovely place. I got an iced coffee and it was amazing! It had a smooth at the first sip and only got better. I truly recommend it. For the gelato, I was able to try tangerine & black tea. They were both so good and creamy. I really recommend them :)
(4)Sara M.
Yum! Awesome gelato was a great finish to our night out. You get to choose two flavors, which I liked. The lemon and pistachio were both great! Highly recommend!

Simply put, Pitango Gelato offers the highest quality frozen dessert in Fells Point if not all of Baltimore The Food For those who were not aware, Gelato is in fact ice cream but it is the Italian version. Gelato is denser(slow churned, less air whipped into it, less butter fat), its sugar content is about 10% higher than American Ice Cream, and Gelato is stored and served at warmer temperature than Ice Cream(0-10 degrees F.). Put all these factors together and you have a sweeter, bolder, and less fattening ice cream. Pitango's gelato/sorbet is made with organic milk, organic eggs, organic sugar, organic fruit, and finest nuts imported from Italy. Pitango literally puts healthy and delicious into dessert. They avoid harmful additives, preservatives, colorings, chemicals, and other ingredients that isn't food but is allowed by the FDA. They have roughly have over 20 flavors and that includes the sorbet. Just a little advice, their flavor list changes slightly based upon availability because everything is hand made regularly in store. Honestly you won't get any better than Pitango with its purity, flavor, and health. The Drinks Pitango offers traditional Italian espresso served the Italian way(demitasse cups and saucers). You can order a Latte, an Espresso, an Americano, a Macchiato, a Cappuccino, or an Affogato(double shot with a scoop of gelato). Their beans are supplied by Counter Culture Coffee. The espresso is full bodied with a very smooth finish. For $1.50 more, the coffee is experience here makes Starbucks look like McDonalds and your local coffee shop more like a local carry out joint. The Location The shop is small simple, neat, and clean. It has two floor to ceiling window that allows plenty of natural light and it is complimented by well placed track lights. The seating area is small seating around 8-10 people. However, they do have outdoor seating which adds space for about another 6 patrons. If it's packed, don't worry there are plenty of benches in the square across the street and by the water. My favorite part about Pitango is how clean and neat they are. You won't find a cleaner spot in Fells Point. The People The staff here is impressive. They are polite, knowledgeable, and skilled in their craft. Service is consistent even when they have a line of tourists out the door who are rude, discombobulated, inpatient, and demanding. The managers have done a great job pulling together a great team and I hope the current staff stays for a while.... Even the guy in the back who makes the gelato is cool. Over all, Pitango of Fells point is a spot where healthy meets delicious as far as desserts are concerned. Bring your family, date, co-workers, or whomever you like for an incredible snack and a great experience. Never mind the price. Look at the quality of your food. It's almost all organic and scrutinizing time and effort went into its making. On top of that, Pitango is a small locally owned business, so slightly higher prices are expected. In this world you get what you pay for and Pitango delivers.
(5)Diane M.
Delicious gelato. It is a bit pricey but worth it. Unpasteurized organic milk sourced from a farm in Lancaster makes these creamy concoctions all the better. The pistachio flavor tasted like creamy honey. The chocolate nucciola was less sweet and more delicious.
(4)Rachel L.
I have to admit, while I have a little bit of a sweet tooth, it mostly extends to gummy candies. Ice cream and gelato aren't my go to desserts. After dinner at my favorite sushi spot in Fells Point, Sticky Rice, my friends were craving something sweet. About two blocks away is Pitango Gelato and they have awesome gelato as well as a few beverages so we headed over. Most of my friends ordered gelato because that's the main reason we headed over to Pitango Gelato in Fells Point. One of my friends decided to try the Vanilla Chocolate Chip Gelato. This was incredibly creamy with tons of chocolate chips spread evenly throughout the dessert. I've never been to Italy, but she said it's as good as the gelato there. Now that's saying something. Another one of my friends ordered a latte, which came with some beautiful Latte Art which I'm always a fan of. But the latte was your standard cup of counter culture coffee. I was in the mood for something a little different and decided to order the Affogato. If you're not familiar an Affogato is a shot of espresso with a scoop of gelato inside. Pitango does something awesome though where you can get your scoop of ice cream placed in their sipping chocolate if you're not an espresso fan. Sipping chocolate is this deliciously rich and creamy hot chocolate but we didn't order it this time because it was a warm summer night. But back to my affogato, I picked a scoop of the chocolate gelato to be dunked in a shot of espresso. The gelato melted within a few minutes and cooled down the espresso leaving me with a deliciously sweet after dinner treat. Overall, we were all very happy with the desserts at Pitango Gelato and can't wait to go back to Fells Point to have some more of that delicious affogato.

Nice little gelato place in Fell's, especially great on a summer day. However, my craving for anything sweet knows no season so I ended up here on a cold January night. They have a pretty decent flavor selection, I sampled the milk n honey on my most recent visit. It's really good if you want something light. I, of course, was in the mood for something indulgent (as I usually am) and opted for my go to flavor of chocolate hazelnut. I always get this so no surprises there. It's good. This time I also got the vanilla chocolate chip and that actually surprised me. It was delicious! It's got the perfect amount of dark chocolate flakes in there and the vanilla flavor really pops. I will be back for another round of this one...I might need to work my way over to Pitango today... The only fallback of this place is that the prices are kind of high. They only have two sizes, a regular (up to 2 flavors) and a large (I believe it was up to 3 but I didn't get a good look). The regular costs about 5 and a half bucks and the large is $7. It's not terribly expensive but the quantities are kind of small so you don't get huge portions. It'd be nice if they had a kid size portion as well in case you wanted just a little scoop. If you like dark chocolate, I would highly recommend their sipping chocolate. Its basically a liquid dark chocolate that you can sip on its own, add to gelato, espresso or milk to make a hot beverage. They even sell it by the bottle. So delicious!
(4)Annabelle L.
The flavors are interesting and unique, but the gelato here is wayyyyyyy overpriced (not just "a bit" as other reviewers are saying) and although I'm glad I tried it, I won't be coming back. As others have said, it melts quickly, especially on warmer days (which is annoying since you just spent so much on it!)
(3)Caitlin C.
I LOVE this gelato. And everyone else seems to as well, since every time I visit, there's a line out the door. They have amazing and creative flavors (like pistachio, creme friache, green tea, cardamom, etc.), and let you try anything before you buy it. You can also get 2 flavors for the price of one in a single serving. I had cantaloupe and green tea the other night. AMAZING. They also serve affogato here, which is gelato with espresso poured over. My boyfriend got a hazelnut affogato, and it was pretty delicious. All the gelato here is made of locally sourced, fair trade, organic, etc. ingredients, so it is a bit pricey, but worth it for a delicious treat in Fells Point.
(4)Kris H.
Yes, as others have mentioned, Pitango is a little expensive. However, the quality of ingredients and final product are absolutely worth it. Creamy, smooth, fresh, and perfectly delightful. Service was top notch too, so friendly!
(5)Greg S.
The weather had finally turned beautiful after a mostly rainy weekend, which was enough incentive to take a walk down to Fells and check out Pitango Gelato. It's a small, clean, very modern shop with gelatos, sorbets, and various coffee concoctions. Since they offer two flavors per serving, we opted for the pistachio gelato and rhubarb sorbet. Great, crystal clear flavors. It sounds cliched, but you can always tell when a place is using high-quality ingredients. The more salient decision for most people will be whether or not a small quantity of two excellent gelatos/sorbets is worth $5.45, but I leave that up to you. I'll be quite happy to come back and indulge every now and then.
(4)Marco M.
Coming to fells point would not be complete without stopping in here for an excellent gelato. A very clean and organized run shop only adds to a more enjoyable experience. They had a good variety of flavors but the textures and creaminess remind me of those back in Italy. I did the nocciola (hazelnut) and pistachio which were both dynamite. The rest of the crew did a similar mix also with some chocolate and everyone was thoroughly satisfied. A couple of us being espresso-aficionados also thought they had a very unique kick than a normal espresso does. Give it a shot (get it?). Buon appetito!
(5)Margaret N.
Best gelato...ever! Perfectly creamy, and not overbearingly sweet! You can get two flavors for the regular size and up to three for the large. And they let you try the flavors before you pick. My go to is the black tea... Amazing!!!
(5)Julieann G.
I am a habitual dieter and exerciser- but Pitango is worth the extra time at the gym. Some exotic, quirky flavors ( Black tea) and of course the usual vanilla ETC. Hazelnut is amazing! Mix them all up, and burn the calories while strolling around Fell's Point. Nice staff every time I have visited, and very clean, with top notch ingredients. You can't go wrong!
(5)Alanna S.
Nice flavors in a cute location. However, their cups are deceivingly small. The bottom is raised, giving you a much shallower dish than anticipated. (Another person mentioned this as well). I know you don't usually get a large volume at a gelato place, but this was even less than you'd expect. The cost is a bit pricey for the amount. You can easily get a whole pint of something delicious for the same cost at the store. It's a nice treat for the location or a fun spot to bring out of town guests. I wouldn't be a regular here though. People seem to rave about their coffee but I'm not a coffee drinker and can't comment. Friendly staff and clean restroom.
(3)Tony H.
I had the affogato here and it was very good. Their gelato is well made and the location is perfect to take some ice cream and walk along the harbor. The staff could be a little friendlier. Our girl seemed like we were bothering her when we we asked for samples then waited somewhat impatiently while waiting for us to order.
(4)Yvonne S.
My several Pitango experiences have been nothing short of excellent. My last visit there was with a friend who lived at Gaithersburg. We arrived at the store fifteen minutes before closing, but the employees were already packing to leave. When they saw us standing by the door, they told us that they were gonna close early because it was a slow day. But since my friend drove far just for this, they didn't hesitate to give us huge scoops of those gelato that we ordered (altho we only had a few to choose from). Friend was satisfied, and because of that it was a great day out!
(5)Deborah B.
Very nice assortment of favors and friendly staff. Super yummy too! Located in the center of Fell's Point it is perfect for an afternoon treat or as a light dessert after dinner.
(4)Michael N.
Great coffee and gelato shop in downtown Fell's Point. Perfect for an espresso pick me up between bars or a nice gelato for the kids. The staff was friendly and they had a few tables to sit down and take a load off. Nice bathroom.
(4)Samantha G.
I knew that Pitango Gelato is supposedly heavenly stuff, but I had been sadly avoiding it for years because I had no clue that they had dairy-free options. Stupid me! Actually, all of their fruit sorbets are dairy-free and the options are clearly separated from the dairy milk options on the menu wall. If you are a vegan or lactose-intolerant person and it's been a long time since you had a cold frosty treat that will blow your mind, you'll want to check out Pitango Gelato! On a recent visit I had the rhubarb (tart and sweet!) and the chocolate noir (dreamy). Even though it's winter right now, I'm dreaming about this stuff...
(5)Rita Y.
Amazingly flavored gelato! I tried the white grapefruit and tangerine and they were absolutely breathtaking. I don't know how but they managed to replicate the flavor but it was on point. They let you sample as much as you want and are open to answering any questions you have on any of the items. It's a bit on the pricier end (5$ for a small sized cup - but you can get two flavors) but it's well worth it.
(4)Jenn C.
Came with a few friends after dinner to fulfill our dessert cravings and also bc one friend has never tried it. Despite the cold weather, the place wasnt dead at all. We were there around 730. They serve hot drinks as well, which i didnt expect from a gelato place. My friend ordered an affogato. You can choose to have the affogato with hot chocolate or espresso with your choice of a scoop of gelato. My other friend ordered a regular cup (around $5-$6 for 2 scoops) of white grapefruit and raspberry. The girl working there told her that they hand pick the berries and all their other fruit flavors themselves. I had a taste, and it tasted natural and fresh. The place is pretty small and seating is limited so i wouldn't come in a large group unless youre planning on eating it outside. However, it should be a nice excuse to walk around and check out the other surrounding shops and pier. Parking is by meter ($2/hr) and expect a bumpy ride bc the roads are made with little stones.
(3)Sarah G.
I don't know how I've never reviewed this place before because it's literally one of my favorite places ever! The fact that they make this amazing gelato with fresh ingredients that can transport me back to Italy is simply amazing! I think the hazelnut is my favorite! All the flavors I've tried are fantastic although I wish they varied them a little bit more. I also wish the prices were less but clearly that doesn't make me not buy it soooo... I didn't know that they have a bunch of locations around MD too which will just fuel my addiction to get gelato in the future. I've tried the affogato before which is espresso poured over gelato... do I need to explain further? espresso+gelato=amazing. Bonus: the staff is always friendly and ready to chat!
(5)Maggi R.
Our dear friend introduced us to Pitango last night and we were thrilled. The line was going out the door - a good indication of their quality and popularity. A delicious selection of gelato and sorbets are offered. I thoroughly enjoyed the crema and pistachio, my husband raved about his chocolate with chocolate chips and our friend loved her Stracciatella (Vanilla Chocolate Chip). We were in and out in no time.....Thank you so much.
(5)Jeremy R.
Ok so we all love the gelatos and sorbets in their dazzling array of flavors and colors but my poison is the Marrochino. A 50/50 blend of espresso and Italian drinking chocolate. It is a demitasse of pure heaven. It's only available in the winter (so I discovered to my horror one summer evening) so get on down there and get some. I also loved the black sesame gelato, it was unique and delicious.
(5)Jenny P.
I ordered the black sesame, hazelnut, and the rhubarb to share with a friend. I enjoyed the hazelnut the most with its irresistible rich and creamy flavor but the black sesame was definitely the most interesting with its roasted nuttiness. The rhubarb was a refreshing sorbet that was just a hair away from being overshadowed by the hazelnut and the sesame in terms of flavor. Price is a bit steep compared to other gelato shops at $7.41 for 3 flavors.
(4)Arvid Y.
I'm glad I stopped by. I was still full from brunch, but there's always room for ice cream right? Pretty much the best gelato i've had outside of Italy. I wish we had something similar in Rochester, NY. Try as many flavors as you like. ~ $5.50 for a regular cup that comes with your choice of two flavors. I'm not sure what the big fuss is about the price. The cost is not much more than Cold Stone or Haagen-Daz. I am happy to pay a small premium for a quality product. I was happy with my Coconut and Black Tea flavors. It's hard to imagine that there is less fat in gelato than in typical ice cream. The thick consistency and rich flavors come through with each spoonful. A regular cup is surprisingly filling and the density of the gelato is impressive. Anyone who is in the Fell's Point area should definitely check Pitango Gelato out!
(5)Neal V.
This place would get 5 stars if it weren't for the recent contraction of their flavors. The flavors range within sorbet and gelato type of iced product. They also have excellent seasonal flavors -- which I feel get better into the Spring and Summer. The one thing to definitely get here is their afogato -- which you can get as a scoop of gelato in either espresso, or hot cocoa. Both are amazing. Also, which you may be focused with the gianduja or stracciatella, I firmly believe that the sorbets are where Pitango shines with the fresh crisp flavors of lemon, pineapple, passionfruit, etc. Also, get the cardamom if you fancy spice.
(4)Jeff L.
This place has got great gelato and is a must if you are in the fell point area. I had the count and the chocolate chip and it was special. There quality standards are some of the best.
(5)Averie H.
very impressive, especially for gelato (which I am very picky about). defiantly a must have!
(5)Lianna N.
Parking: impossible. Area: idyllic. Great for a stroll and some gelato....if you're lucky enough to find parking. While the parking was a turn off, the fine weather, plethora of bars, fine dining, and grills in this neat block still warrants a visit. The gelato was great. Smooth creamy texture with just the right hardness and consistency. In my opinion it was textured between frozen yogurt and ice cream, which is perfect! They have a great variety of flavors ranging from common chocolate to grapefruit and spicy chocolate. It was pricey-$5.5 for a 2 scoop option (you can mix and match), but recommend as a great treat on a beautiful day!
(4)Amanda R.
While prices can be considered high for the size you receive, you won't be disappointed. Quality ingredients and in-season flavors served by friendly staff in a classic Baltimore setting. Try the affagotto, hazelnut gelato topped with a shot of espresso. AMAZING.
(5)Lina J.
Man oh man, now THIS is real gelato. Go here, not Vacarro's, that is all. I saw that they were offering hot chocolate (probably a good idea given the weather these days!) But I still braved the Baltimore cold and opted for gelato (cinnamon and hazelnut!) It's a littley pricey (especially on a student's budget) but for a once-ina-while treat, it's fione. I love their other location in D.C. too! Can't wait to come back!!
(5)Belinda P.
Hands down my favorite ice cream gelato sorbet joint in any city. I've been to a few all over the country (New Orleans, Las Vegas, New York). I even make my own sorbet. Still love this place. Nothing beats the ingredients and right combinations. The raspberry sorbet is always just right fresh with no tartness (many recipes include lemon to give it tartness but it goes overboard). The chocolate sorbet is yummy, with the right level of dark chocolate mixed with real pieces of chocolate. The mojito tastes like real fresh lime and mint. Nothing like the liqueur of the same name, which is chemical based. This is a real taste. I'm sorry I cannot comment on any of the ice cream flavors as I'm allergic to dairy. But this simply underscores my point: thank you, Pitango for paying attention to the good quality sorbet and not just depending on your gelato to get by. Too many joints provide sorbet as a last minute thought. You take your sorbets seriously. Thanks!
(5)Cathy Z.
This place offers delicious gelato that makes you want more even if it is freezing cold outside. The interior is quite cute. Some of the flavors are unique with not your typical run of the mill type names. I came here on a Monday night after having dinner during my east coast trip and the store was quite packed with people. Not bad for a cold Monday night. You can sample some flavors before deciding. You can pick 2 flavors for the smaller cup and 3 flavors for the bigger cup. Personally, I thought the cups were a bit small for the price that was charged. However, I would still pay it for the quality and flavor. I had the Honey and Milk gelato and Black Tea gelato. Honey and milk has a lovely milk taste that isn't overly sweet and is oh so creamy. The Black Tea compliments it really well with a nice balance of tea flavor, subtle balance of sweetness, and finished with delicious creaminess. Service is friendly and awesome. A solid 4 stars for Pitango.
(4)Chantelle J.
My friend convinced me to go here right when I was about to get my usual egg custard snowball at the hotdog stand on broadway street. I figured I'd give it a try and I am glad I did. I ordered mango and blackberry sorbet and it was great! The cost for a small cup is $5.50 but it was worth it. Nice lively staff as well.
(5)Sarah J.
I've been here a few times. You Will get good-quality gelato every time you go, no question. Their hot chocolate is known to be one of Bmore's best as well. But, the high price of the ice cream for the small quantity always dissuades me. If it had a better interior, I wouldn't mind as much but the place only has a few seats and is very casual. Also, I'm not a huge fan of chains and Pitangos is slowly starting to become and feel like that. I like nutty flavors, so I will recommend the Chocolate (or non-chocolate) Hazelnut and Pistachios. If you're looking for gelato in Bmore, why not try Vaccaro's not too far away in Fell's Point? I like their homemade feeling, better portions, and more seating options much better.
(3)Sagor H.
Great place to stop for some Gelato in Baltimore. Definitely has some solid offerings and some interesting flavors from time to time. Service is quick and staff is friendly. I usually ended up stopping here every time we grab dinner in Fells Point. Definitely a solid option to try.
(4)LD J.
Pitango Gelato has simply the best gelato on this side of the Atlantic Ocean. If you want better, you'll have to got to Italy. I've been to the gelateria in Tuscany that consistently wins the the world's best gelato contest. It was truly heavenly. But even there, I didn't find the depth of flavor I've found at Pitango. Just stop reading this and go to Pitango now. That is all.
(5)Carla T.
Friendly staff, very clean and bright location. I taste-tested a few of the options and the girl behind the counter didn't mind. I decided upon the pear gelato and it was delicious.
(4)Marybelle P.
mmmm fresh tasting gelato that is creamy yet light. I had the pistachio and almond flavors which complemented one another. Love gelato especially for dessert. The staff was also very friendly allowing you to try as many options as you want. The store is located in Fell's point and across the street from the square with many sitting/relaxing areas to allow you to enjoy your gelato. yum!
(4)Meatdowntown C.
It is just okay. They are very nice and customer service is excellent. However, I don't think $7 for a cup of Gelato is absurd. I have gone to other Gelato places in Chicago with much more variety of flavors and probably 40% cheaper.
(2)Devonshire B.
This sh*t is good. Sorry for the censored expletive, but yum! So smooth, so delicious. Get a coffee flavoured one and mix it with the sweet cream (hint of lemon) or vanilla. Heaven on Earth!
(4)Saira M.
Whenever I am in Baltimore, I make a point to go to fells point (haha, get it?) just for the deliciousness that is, Pitango Gelato. I have pretty much sampled all the flavors and it's so difficult to pick a favorite but I always lean towards the cardamom, the hazelnut-chocolate and espresso. The thing I LOVE about this gelato is that it tastes real! No "flavored" gelato here! Nu-uh. Every flavor has an authenticity to it which keeps bringing me back. It is on the pricier side but what gelato place isn't. However, with this one you seriously get your money's worth. As far as the service goes, it's great. The staff is always so helpful and actually suggest you sample something before placing an order. On my recent visit, I noticed they have gone green by offering to e-mail me my receipt. I appreciate when business make an effort to save the planet while also giving me the option of protecting myself from BPA coated receipt paper (not like I'm going to return my gelato but I like to keep records).

Over time, my interest in Pitango has declined. Prices have increased substantially, and serving sizes have decreased. They also got rid of their rewards system and will implement a new one sometime in the distant future. Therefore, anything that you've earned in the old system has been wiped out.

My friends and I saw this place on our way to go eat dinner and just knew we had to stop by. After dinner, as full as we were, one of my friends and I stopped in. At first I was going to choose the Crema flavor, because it sounded lighter and would probably leave my stomach intact. But my friend got a taste of two different flavors, so I decided, why not try the one I had really been eying, as well. I do not regret that decision in the least. I thought the Hazelnut would be as heavy as nutella, but it was extremely light. The creaminess was there, but it wasn't overbearing. I actually asked for a large size of the flavor. You can also choose up to 3 different flavors for the large size and 2 different flavors for the small. The place was clean, close, and personal and the service was great. Thank you! It was super satisfying. My taste buds were so happy. ^__^
(5)Katie W.
Flavors are great, but expensive prices for portion size. I really like the hazelnut and the fact that they will split flavors. They are really proud of their ingredients. Raspberry really tastes like fresh raspberries, which is why I guess the gelato is so expensive.
(5)Gabe W.
Great flavors here. The pistachio tasted like salty pistachios and not hideous, fake green pistachio flavor. The dark chocolate orange was rich and deeply flavored, enhanced by the cayenne pepper they had in a shaker to dust the top. The only thing is that it was VERY pricey, even by gelato standards, for a product that, while very good, was not exactly distinctive enough for the price. Atmosphere is like a hipster sweet frog.
(4)Julie D.
For those of us who are dairy-free, we are usually content with the one or two sorbets offered at many scoop shops. Imagine the sheer delight at coming to Pitango and finding that 10 of the 20 flavors offered are Sorbet! Each and every one from Cantaloupe to Chocolate to White Grapefruit were delicious, trust me, we sampled them all. The staff is friendly and quite happy to provide those samples while we debated which combination would be best. I wish I loved closer so I could visit more often.
(5)Nathan F.
Dope spot near the inner harbor. Good selection of super good gelato, and awesome barista makes super good cappuccinos with impressive late art.
(4)Jordan P.
I love this place. The gelato is thick, rich, and creamy, and it's not so sickeningly sweet like cheaper ice cream. This enables the robust flavors the come through: green and black tea, hazelnut, rich chocolate, just to name a few...man, I need to get out there again! Every evening there always seems to be a generous crowd sitting on the steps and the planters outside enjoying the evening and the gelato. They're open very late for a gelato/ice cream place too, which is a big plus. One of my all-time favorite Baltimore discoveries.
(5)Valerie K.
Pistachio gelato - one of the best. It's definitely great gelato (that delayed our dinner, but so worth it). Oh and thank you for letting me get whipped cream with my cappuccino. I did get a funny look for that one (I don't know - who doesn't like whipped cream?), but they were gracious and friendly about it.
(5)Brooke W.
The gelato was absolutely delicious! I had the cremo and chocolate with chips, I was told it was a good combination, and it was so amazing. My friend had the hazelnut and told me she could've eaten a bucket of it it was so good. My only complaint is that it's a little pricey for what you get and there's not really room to sit or even stand, but it's definitely something you should try at least once.
(4)Ellie L.
They know their gelato! I would say their gelato is Europe grade. When we were walking by, debating whether or not to go, a local told us that she went there several times a week. She was not wrong! It was totally worth it! Yummmmmm!
(5)Boris L.
So good! I have never seen mojito gelato before. It was out of this world! Looked like they had a ton of other great flavors too. Stop by if you're in the area
(5)Rene R.
So by the time we got to Pitango I was stuffed. There was no way I was going to eat anything else - but husband had the Chocolate gelato and the Banana sorbet. So this is his review ---- Solid 3. It was good but not great. If I had a craving for gelato and we were in Fells Point, we'd stop there. But I wouldn't go out of my way to get there. The restroom was clean. And the employees were really nice.
(3)Sara E.
They were a stop on the pirate treasure hunt and I couldn't resist. I had the mojito sorbet. The super friendly guy suggested I try it with the back tea gelato. When I hesitated, he gave me a sample of the two together. It wasn't for me, but I did really enjoy the mojito. There was a huge selection of both gelato and sorbet. I can't wait to try them all.
(5)Natasha S.
I like other Yelpers can never pass by this place WITHOUT getting something. Because I live in DC, if I am in the area, I will ensure I pass by just to get some if I need to. THIS is how much I adore this place. This is the BEST gelato place I have been to in the Washington DC/Baltimore MD area - hands down! Their sorbets are delicious and light. Not too sweet and taste really natural. My favorite; Cantaloupe, Grapefruit and Rhubarb. Their gelatos are creamy and flavorful. Favorites; Pistachio, Green Tea, Black Tea & Cardamon. In both the sorbets and gelatos, you can taste the natural aromas and flavors. I absolutely adore this place. It's amazing. They feature some fantastic flavors and the people behind the counter are always more than accommodating. I always have to sample at least 3-4 to ensure the flavors I want to get, and they are always a good sport about it. While I agree with others that $6.50 may seem pricey for a few small scoops of gelato. I can't say that I know a GOOD gelato place that DOESN'T charge that much or more. I think it is well worth it. I'm glad I don't live around the corner. I foresee it being extremely deadly.
(5)Quynh T.
Their version of gelato was what I considered to be gelato (and not just ice cream that people call gelato to make it all fancy) . It's very thick and rich and their have some very good flavor selections . I had their combo of crema and pistachio. The crema was good with a hint of lemon that was refreshing, but their pistachio, although still good, could have been improved with a stronger pistachio flavor. I should warn you though, their cups are deceivingly shallow, which I'm sure my hips appreciate.
(4)Kara W.
So good that it makes you write crappy poetry. An ode to Affogato (a love haiku) silky and smooth gelato hot drinking chocolate i got it at Pitango
(5)Dominique F.
So, I've gone to Pitango before and I know it's good, but it looks like I forgot just how GOOOD it is haha Wanted to introduce gelato to my friends and ended up coming here on a Tuesday night. I got the pear and the chocolate hazelnut, and omg I can eat that chocolate hazelnut gelato all day long and I wont get sick of it. DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED.
(5)Rebecca Y.
Amazing gelato! A little pricey, but it's worth it. Be sure to try the mango sorbet if they have it!
(5)Tamara Z.
Good gelato.
(4)Pamela L.
Love this place. My boyfriend and I go there every time I'm in town. So good. They had a black tea one which I loved.
(5)Supriya M.
I'm always surprised by how much people rave about this place. It's almost like it's the only place people have had gelato or maybe because it's the only option I can think of in Baltimore. But having had gelato in cities like other big cities and even Pittsburgh (try Mulberry in Shady Side), this place is a complete let down. First, it lacks innovative flavors. One can do so much with gelato and having standard flavors like chocolate and hazelnut is always disappointing. The farthest they've gone is spicy chocolate. Next, the flavors they have are weak. The orange dark chocolate and cardamon gelatos had a very weak orange flavor. Lastly, it is ridiculously expensive, although I have to say gelato is expensive everywhere. But this place makes it more apparent because it has mediocre gelato at ridiculously high prices. A (tiny) regular cup is $5. I really wish we had a better option in Fells Point for Gelato but until then I guess it will remain popular.
(2)Jo L.
I was going to the Aquarium with my friends and when I told my cousin about it, he told me to check this place out. My friends and I walked about 30 minutes to this place but I was pretty satisfied. I also got a little spoon in every color. =)
(4)Harmonie T.
Walking along the cobbled streets of Fells Point, my friend and I nearly passed by this gelato joint that had a line out the door. Something was telling us that we should get in line too. My eyes immediately gravitated toward the non-dairy sorbet. The line moved quickly and we got to taste samples. I decided on a small cup with half Natural Apricot sorbet and half Spicy Chocolate sorbet. so. much. bold. clean. flavors. su.pr/9fZwYZ Mouthgasm!
(5)Will Y.
Really delicious gelato. We got the Pistachio, Black tea, and mango. The pistachio and black tea was a favorite for us. Really refreshing for a hot Sat afternoon.
(5)Candy Y.
Read many great reviews about this place and of course would like to try it out for myself since I am in town. It didn't disappoint and I left the door wanting to turn right back in! Even though I wanted to order a pint, I restrained myself to a small serving of coconut and hazelnut. You can tell the gelato were made with top quality ingredients. It was so creamy and the flavor were excellent. It was a bit on the pricey side, but worth every bite of it. Wish they would open one up in NYC!!
(5)Jess P.
One of the best places to get gelato. The staff is so nice and they will let you try every flavor they have, no problem. The lines can get a bit unruly during the weekends especially during the summer but they expedite pretty well.
(4)Ina F.
This place never disappoints! Great gelatos and sorbets. If you're in the mood for hot beverages, their hot chocolate is also amazing. You can have them thin it out with some steamed milk, but I prefer to have it as it is and dunk their biscotti in it for a truly decadent treat. Staff is very friendly and helpful!
(5)Elsa M.
"Where can I get good ice cream?" "Pitango!" "Pitango!" "Pitango!" It's all I heard from everyone I asked. They all lied. You cannot get good ice cream at Pitango, but you can get GREAT gelato there (and there IS a difference people. They are not interchangeable!). I was immediately struck by two things: the abundance of flavors and the abundance of price! A kid-sized dish will cost you $5 (two flavors) and an adult-sized dish will cost you $6.50 (three flavors). I opted for the kids dish, with half crema and rhubarb. The crema was sweet, with hints of vanilla cream and the rhubarb as sweet and tart. I enjoyed them both. It was over before I knew it though (the portion was pretty small for the kids dish) and honestly, my sweet tooth was not satisfied. In true gelato fashion though, my mouth felt refreshed and it totally cleansed my palate, which is part of its intent. Mission accomplished. Would I be back to Pintago? You bet ya... BUT only after a meal or when I really crave something light. If you want the smoothness or creaminess of real ice cream or frozen yogurt though, Pitango will not satisfy you.
(3)SY C.
I thought the flavors for the gelattos were ok - not amazing. I liked the tangerine gelato - very refreshing. I was disappointed with the crema - I liked that there was addition of lemon, but it was too much and overpowered the cream I expected. There are fewer choices at this particular gelato establishment that others I've been to. I wouldn't say don't go, but if you want more choices, you might try another place. With that said, the customer service is wonderful, so it depends on how picky you are about your gelato. I would probably go back if in the area and I'd recommend it - there are just limited choices and the choices we had when we went weren't the ones I liked.
(3)Kris L.
Ummm is a tiny cup of handmade gelato worth $5?? Only when it's from Pitango! They have an extensive menu of rotating flavors that includes everything from Stracciatella and Cardamom to Mango and Apricot sorbets (dairy free/vegan). You can combine 2 flavors into a regular size cup ($5) or 3 into a large size ($7). Had the Gianduja (chocolate hazelnut) and Pisatchio which were AMAZING. Their vanilla is really good too. The texture is very chewy (is it weird to have to chew gelato?) Loved loved loved it. Will be back soon.
(4)Jessica K.
I got the affogato here and it was pretty good. It tasted the same from when I had it in Italy. However, it costs about 5 dollars so I'm not sure if it was worth it, I can totally make this at home =/
(5)Ron S.
We try to visit Pitango Gelato whenever we visit Baltimore. All their flavors are delicious! All natural ingredients. Everything is made on-site. You really can't beat it. The only downside is the price, but it's worth it.
(5)Eileen K.
5 stars for: taste, variety of flavors, and location! Fell's Point was my absolute favorite part of Baltimore. Historic brick buildings, cobble stone streets, the water a few blocks away...beautiful! Pitango was the perfect little walk after our dinner at the Black Olive. I tried to taste as many different as I could without being an annoying rude customer (and making the customers behind me angry...) I managed to taste about 6 flavors: pistachio, hazelnut, mojito, tangerine, raspberry, and this white one but i forget the name! :( the pistachio and hazelnut were creamy, nutty, thick, DELICIOUS! yumyum. I paired the hazelnut with tangerine so I can have the creamy goodness mixed with the flavorful, tangy, light, freshness of the tangerine. YUMYUM. The second night (yes I went back here the next day! and YES it was that yummy!) I picked the pistachio with mojito. SO GOOD. seriously a hugee kick of flavor with each spoonful, and soo refreshing. The best part was sitting outside, enjoying yummy gelato, warm evening, chit chatting with good company. :)

I cannot believe I have not written a review for this place since I've been here a gazillion times- seriously. The owner knows my husband by name since we come so often. This place has really bright, fruity flavors made of organic fruit while the other more unique flavors like cinnamon, hazelnut, and stracciatella and others are really robust and delicious. My recent favorite has been passionfruit. When I come, I get the large pint of ice cream, it's such a good deal because you can get about 8 servings of gelato, while just getting one serving is about half the price. My only ask of Pitango is they used to make a three layer gelato cake, where they layered 3 flavors of gelato together, covered it with dark chocolate, and made it into a rectangular cake. You can't order it anymore but it was the BEST cake!! Why, Pitango, did you get rid of that cake? It would make you SO much money!!!!
(5)Rusty S.
Great gelato and great service when we went. Made recommendations, educated on how different types were made and what they went well with. Recommended affogado with their hot chocolate on top- awesome!
(5)Elizabeth D.
green tea flavor is soooooooooooo amazing. match it up with a fruity flavor like raspberry and you've got yourself a birthday. plus the lady behind the counter is super friendly and enjoys serving these treats. get some! great spot too :)
(5)Stephanie W.
Great Gelato place. Found it after eating a meal across the street. I had black tea and the guy had chocolate hazelnut. The black tea tastes just like it sounds, like a cup of black tea with cream and sugar. The chocolate hazelnut tastes like Nutella. It was very enjoyable but they need more flavors. I also thought it was a little expensive. I can quote gelato prices where I live but 6 plus dollars for 4 ounces of gelato is ridiculous.
(4)Chery S.
I can never resist Pitango. Especially now that the heat and humidity are settling in, I can't help but pop into Pitango every time I'm in the neighborhood. Or not in the neighborhood. Let's be real. I seek it out. Anyway, I'm sure all their flavors are fantastic, but the ones that I've really really come to enjoy are the Black Tea, Spicy Chocolate (which is seasonal, I think, and it was missing the last time I went. Tear), and Orange Dark Chocolate (sounds strange but reallllllyyyy good). And I'm not normally a fan of chocolate but there you have it! A lot of people complain that it's pricey but really...it's the best around and you get what you pay for. ALSO, did you know that Pitango caters?! I'm super excited to be hosting an event soon where we will be serving Pitango gelato. PUMPED. I'll probably eat the majority of what we order but hey. That's okay. The cool thing is they've devised a system to keep the gelato cool without having to plug the freezers in!!!! I thought that was pretty cool....just me? okay.

I was walking through the plethora of bars and eateries in Fell's Point late on a Saturday afternoon, dodging some yelling and drunk dudes and dudettes, when I whipped out my phone to try the best reviewed place for a snack. Pitango Gelato came up and we decided to go. The menu of around 10 different flavors got our taste buds going, and once the woman at the counter started offering us samples we were hooked. She recommended flavors and probably would have been happy to give us samples of every flavor. We decided on the hazelnut-chocolate (amazingly gooey and flavorful with the surprise chocolate chips in every bite) and pineapple sorbet (not overly icy or overly sweet). The Gelato here gets 5 stars without a doubt. I have to take off one star because the women who rang us up was talking to someone else while taking my money and giving us change (no thank you, no 'hope you enjoy', etc). The price/value of the gelato here also tipped the scale towards 4 stars for me. I just think that $5 for a small or $6.50 for a large (I'm assuming they were using 'large' hyperbolically) is a bit much for what you get. I know Gelato is expensive and you savor every bite (thank you European influence), but everything should be a dollar cheaper or a scoop larger. I will definitely go back for some awesome ice-cream...even if it means I'll have to eat at Hardy's for dinner instead of a real meal.

Having been spoiled in New Orleans last summer with Creole Creamery I was happy to find another dessert spot with unusual and different flavors. When I arrived tonight there was a bit of a crowd but none the less, I was in and out within five minutes. Tonight's flavor's featured a good amount of favorites such as banana, coconut, and old fashioned vanilla, but my eye was drawn to the newest addition of 'Black Sesame' along with the exotic cardamom. I ended up ordering a regular size and had a little bit of both. I was very happy with my selections and can't wait to visit again!
(4)Camille A.
Very good chocolate hazelnut ice cream. Will be going again and the staff is excellent they are nice about you trying flavors
(5)Leslie T.
Yep...it's pricey at $5 for a little cup of two flavors. And had the gelato not been sooooo good, I would have done 3 stars because of the cost. I had the Caffe Espresso and Crema in one cup at the urging of the server. The espresso flavor was perhaps the best espresso ice cream/gelato/dessert I've ever tasted. The crema was not what I expected at all. It almost had a lemon flavor to it. I was expecting more of a french vanilla flavor. But mixed together it was fantastic! The gelato is creamy, stringy, sticky - just like it should be. It's made by hand with organic ingredients. From the website: Pitango Gelato's dairy, located on Pennsylvania's Spring Wood Organic Farm, is certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and is a Pennsylvania Certified Organic (PACO) dairy. You can get a little taste of each flavor before you decide. The hazelnut was tasty too. They have sorbet as well if you prefer made with fresh fruits, not concentrates. And they have fancy coffees if you need something besides a regular cup o' joe. There are a few tables inside but it's in the coolest part of Baltimore - Fell's Point. Grab a cup and wander the cobblestone streets. It's a nice treat to sit on the harbor benches and watch the boats and ducks and geese and enjoy some refreshment.
(4)Melissa I.
Beautiful establishment in the heart of Fells that is home to the best coffee drinks & gelato you will ever have. Do yourself a favor and grab one today! The staff is so friendly & really knows their products. You can also try a flavor before you commit to a full size; although you can't go wrong with any of their amazing flavors! On the way out buy yourself a bag of their homemade almond biscotti, your mouth will thank you.
(5)Eunice K.
my favorites: black tea pistachio grapefruit i wouldn't recommend the affogato if you're expecting to get a decent amount of gelato.. my cousin got the coconut affogato and said she expected more gelato but there wasn't much so she was a little disappointed.
(4)Christy M.
I walked for 45 minutes and got blisters on my feet in order to enjoy this gelato, and it was entirely worth it. Plus I ate it guilt free, thinking of the blistered walk back. I went deluxe with a cup of the bacio, which is chocolate-hazelnut gelato with pieces of hazelnut and chocolate. Yeah, it was a little over the top...in the best possible way. I wish I lived in the area, because as I was sitting outside on a bench enjoying the evening air, I saw a sign for a treat with espresso poured over gelato and I was thisclose to going back for another cup.
(5)Yvette T.
Without a doubt, absolutely the BEST GELATO EVER. I had the combination of matcha green tea and chocolate hazelnut. Both were deliciously rich, creamy and flavorful. So decadent, yet so light. Unfortunately, I heard that the matcha green tea flavor has been discontinued, but don't let that stop you as they have a wall full of flavors for you to try. Slightly more expensive, but definitely worth it. Guaranteed you'll fall in love!
(5)Joseph K.
Something about this gelato just doesn't hit the spot for me. Yes it's cold, creamy, thick goodness .... but there's something missing every time I eat Pitangos. I've been to italy and i've also had some great gelato in the states (so I do know that I love me some good gelato) It's good, but it doesn't saturate my sweet tooth like I want it to.
(3)Ellie F.
NON-DAIRY CHOCOLATE GELATO! Do I need to say anything else? They also had your regular(ish) sorbet flavors. But imagine my delight at CHOCOLATE. I think it was actually called "chocolat noir" or some other fancy way to say it. LOVE.
(5)Jorge M.
Fantastic place! Great flavors, organic options and they are very happy to let you try out however many flavors you like so you know you are missing some gems. Highly recommend!
(5)Shyam S.
Had three wonderful sorbets in one cup - lemon, tangerine and local raspberry. My sister had two chocolate gelatos. We both enjoyed eating our desserts while sitting on the pier ... cue the Otis Redding song? My only complaint is that it's too damn expensive for the portion sizes.
(3)Dodikins D.
My fiancé rates this a 4. I give it a 3. We came to try the affogato, but wanted it with hot chocolate instead of a double espresso because it was late at night. However, we were told that the hot chocolate is seasonal, and they stopped carrying it 2 weeks ago. Instead, we got the hazelnut and dark chocolate gelatos. While the flavors were good, ultimately, they tasted pretty icy, rather than creamy. (-1.5 stars) It was also pretty pricy, considering the small cup. (-0.5 stars) I might come back here if I'm already in the area, but I wouldn't drive out here late at night again like we did unless it's hot chocolate season. In the meanwhile, I will be looking for other gelato places to try out.
(3)Juanita P.
I found this shop while looking for decent places to eat in Baltimore for a planned trip to the National Aquarium. I was very happy to see an establishment talk about the grass-fed organic dairy and identify the farm where the dairy is sourced. You certainly wouldn't find this information at Baskin Robbins. Upon my visit, the staff was very nice and said my daughter had to have the cutest head of curls ever (awww!). I was under the impression that only a few of the flavors are organic but was pleasantly surprised to see a wide selection of organic choices. I tried the spicy chocolate (it was okay). I settled for mango and vanilla combination. It was small but tasty. I wished I had opted for the larger size. I was also pleased to find out Pitango has stores closer to me in NoVA. I will most definitely be back.
(5)Gina A.
I was really debating taking it down a star because of the price...but it's just too good! And the flavors are so incredibly unique, such as black sesame mmm. It's super rich, creamy, sweet (and expensive) so it's indeed a special treat but totally worth it!
(5)Rob N.
Really freaking good gelato, organic ingredients, natural flavors, and a cool little spot on the square in Fell's Point. What more can you want? Had half black tea, half crema (kinda like a cooked, slightly caramelized condensed milk flavor), and it was fantastic. The wife had half strawberry and half chocolate noir (dark chocolate w/cocoa nibs). Not cheap, but not outrageous. Very rich, so the cup sizes are really just about right. They brew Zeke's coffee, too, so that's a bonus.
(5)Herman C.
I enjoyed the sampling of all the gelatos available and ended up with the green tea. Really enjoyed it and facility is clean. Staff were helpful and they use quality ingredients. Almost like being back in Italy :)
(4)Jessica R.
Creative flavors, thick and creamy gelato. Sample as many flavors as you like before you order. The custard is deep, the spicy chocolate has kick. Hard to go wrong here. My only complaint? SO pricy. I've had equally good gelato for half the price (granted, in other states... like at Iorio's in Ann Arbor, Michigan). Sweet place for a date. Have dinner beforehand next door at BOP (Brick Oven Pizza).

I scream, YOU scream, we ALL scream for...SICILIAN ALMOND AND GIANDUJA GELATOOOOO!!! Did I do it right? Pitango. Saying the name is the second most fun thing you can do with your mouth in this place. The first obviously being making out with a cup of their cool creamy goodness. As my sweet tooth has declined steadily over the years, I've only been twice, but both times I left so utterly pleased with what myself and my gelato had accomplished, I've decided to make it a monthly ritual. My first visit was in August, a friend and I ducking in from the scorching harbor sun, squinting at the plaques of flavors on the wall as the reflection blinded us, searching for that perfect duet. The heat had me craving fruit, so I went with the sorbet. Tangerine and lemon. The mere idea of it dropped me down several delicious degrees. The delivery was even better: some of the smoothest, tangiest, most refreshing sorbet I've had. Round II at Pitango occurred when a random craving for chocolate gelato caught me in the odd month of January. At first we had tried Meli's bakery for one of their amazing chocolate mousse deserts, only to find they had closed the bakery portion (*cue melancholy violins*). So, despite the icy temps outside, we scurried into Pitango. After a quick scan of the flavors, my belly told my heart to tell my mind...to go with Sicilian Almond and Gianduja (chocolate hazelnut) gelato. My belly is smart. This was heaven. Creamy, rich, chocolaty-nutty goodness in a cup. With an itty bitty spoon. All the better to savor it with. Dis' be some good gelato. Ya got da sorBAY!! Ya got da geLADDO!! You...ya did good kid. Pitango: I'll be back.
(4)Rudell S.
Every time my other half and I are in Fells we grab a treat from this spot, no matter the season. I LOVE getting the affogato in the winter, though I prefer drinking chocolate and hazlenut gelato to the coffee or expresso. Super rich! I had an AMAZING cantaloupe sorbet earlier this summer that was just as refreshing as the fruit itself. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Great place.
(5)Lindsey T.
Awesome vegan choices, especially the chocolate noir!! It's so hard to find chocolate non-dairy sorbets, and I pretty much always prefer chocolate, so I was so excited when I wandered in here as I was waking around Fells Point. I had a "small" with half chocolate noir and half strawberry, and it was perfect- so much so that I came back the next day for another one (and brought friends :-)). The employee said they rotate various chocolate vegan sorbets, including a blood orange (or something like that), so my only regret is that if wasn't able to try more if the chocolate flavors. But so, so tasty!
(4)Angela H.
This place is one of my fiance and I's faves. There is always an array of interesting flavors to choose from, although my all-time favorite is the dark orange chocolate side by side with raspberry. Yums. A bit pricey, but well worth it. Definately take some home with you. They provide cute little styrofoam cooler type containers to put in your freezer that hold quite a few flavors. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars for this particular location is because there is a redheaded girl behind the counter that is consistently incredibly rude. I'm surprised no one else has commented about her.
(4)Kawai Y.
Stumbled upon this place during a warm sunny weekend early evening, when checking out the Fells Point waterfront and walking around aimlessly trying to figure out where to go for dinner. Figure it was a great idea to finally just sit down with some gelato in the mean time. The interior space was pretty roomy, with lots of standing space, but only a few tables for seating. Spent almost an absurd 15-20 minutes sampling most of their flavors they had that day. Amazingly, the staff was patient and compliant with us freeloaders without noticing a single look of impatience and displeasure in their face as we greedily sample. Feeling bad, we finally made a decision. Amongst us, we settled with several flavors. The ones I remembered I have tried/shared with were: Stracciatella, Hazelnut, and Pistachio. Stracciatella - ok, wasn't the best Stracciatella I've had. Pistachio - delicious, my favorite the ones I've tried. Hazelnut - delicious, loved it as well. Strongest flavor of the ones I've tried, so I had this last. Though, having tried all of these flavors together might have ruined my taste palette at the end, but.. all is well. Price was a little steep, but not ridiculous. This is probably not a surprise given this is a somewhat touristy area. One major bad experience coming here was, it destroyed our appetite for dinner afterwards. Though we only have ourselves to blame for that....

I was still searching for some gelato that would remind me of Italy, and I finally found what I was looking for in this little gem. I had been eyeballing this place for a while, and I'm so glad I finally tried it as I was not disappointed, unlike at that other place.. Upon entering, the shop wassmall, but bright, and incredibly clean - the stainless steel covers were pristine and seemed devoid of all grubby fingerprints. Moving on, The flavors were listed on the wall with a description of each and I found that to be helpful, and they offer samples, so really, you know exactly what you're getting before you even purchase it. There was a line, and it was a bit cramped, but it moved quickly so I have no complaints there. A regular cup with 2 flavors cost around $5.50, and while I would normally think that's a bit steep given the outward appearance of the cup, the quality, and the amount shoved into it is more than enough. Now for the gelato. Simply put, it was incredible. The crema was barely sweet with the perfect texture. The vanilla chocolate chip was also quite good and it tasted like dark chocolate chips were mixed in. My taste buds were very impressed, and I hope to go back in the near future to try black tea and creme fraiche. The only downside was that parking was atrocious, so if possible, I would recommend parking a few blocks away and hoofing it. It's a nice area for a stroll.

Awesome Gelato. Pretty much as close as it gets to the real stuff in Italy. It's also significantly better than the bryers or whatever stuff you find at the grocery store. If you're in Fells... you have to stop here. Especially during summer... or winter.... heck anytime!

Recently went into Fell's Point for dinner and decided to walk a few blocks toward Broadway St and hit up some of the local joints for dessert. I was going to go for Mr. Yogato, but decided on Pitango Gelato instead. Glad I did. I've been to Sicily, where gelato (or, technically "gelati") is supposedly the best in the world. And trust me it is AMAZING. But Pitango comes close to reliving that summer vacation in Sicily. They have plenty of gelato flavors, and what I like is that they ask if you want to mix more than one flavor. I just went for the chocolate chip and it was excellent. Consistency and flavor was perfect. There are usually long lines here, and on a busy Saturday night when we were here, the lines stretched all the way outside. Most people ate outside because there was simply nowhere to sit inside; I was lucky enough to grab a table. But the lines move real quick. If you love gelato, you got to come here next time you are in Baltimore.
(4)Christina H.
Mmmmm gelato :) Pitango is the place to go if you're looking for a little something sweet to satisfy your stomach. The flavors are always changing, but they allow you to try as many as you like before committing to a flavor that you may not otherwise enjoy. On my last visit, I sampled the spicy chocolate, cardamom, and chocolate hazelnut. I was not a fan of the first two and decided to get a small size (2 flavors for $4.95) with chocolate hazelnut and vanilla chocolate chip. I'm not too big on fruity ice creams, so I stuck with what I like and I was not disappointed.
(4)Camille H.
Still as delicious as the last time. I've never tried a bad flavor here and the consistency is always perfect.

This place is reliable on every front. Best iced coffee. Best gelato. TIP: You can get takeout variety box of gelato with several different flavors and it comes in a cooler-like box to keep it cold. This is a crowd pleaser if you are ever bringing dessert to a dinner party.

(08/19/2013) Good gelato place in Fells, nice stop if you're touring around the Point on a warm summer day. Gelato flavors range from standard to sophisticated (Black Tea) and some populist crowd pleasers as well (Vanilla Chocolate Chip). Flavors are pretty mild, gelato is creamy, slightly granular but not icy.
(4)Neelam P.
YUM. Chocolate Hazelnut + Vanilla Chocolate Chip is delicious!
(4)Lauren S.
There's really nothing of any great value that I can say here. I tried the spicy chocolate but didn't like it, so I went with the vanilla chocolate chip. It definitely satisfied my sweet tooth! I think the prices are kind of high, but then again if you're having this once in a blue moon who cares. It's a nice spot in Fells to come and relax.

Big fan of the variety of unconventional flavors offered. I got a mix of the black tea and cinnamon gelato. The woman serving the gelato was very helpful in choosing the best flavor combination and suggested I mix the black tea with the cinnamon. Tasted like chai tea latte! I think both flavors had the potential to be too overpowering but they were subtle and complemented one another perfectly. One issue I had with the gelato that made me doubt its authenticity is the texture. Not sure if it was because of the organic milk used (high milk fat content? some kind of thickener?) but the ice cream was very chewy, I wasn't expecting the texture and I'm accustomed to the more traditional creamy texture of gelato. A little odd, tasty nonetheless. If I find myself back here, definitely want to try the bosc pear and spicy chocolate. Recommended for a tasty refreshing treat.
(4)Robert G.
Great gelato, but insanely overpriced. Comes with cute tiny spoons. Good thing because without them, your $7 "large" would be gone in 4 spoonfuls.
(3)Kojo B.
I get my pistachio and hazelnut flavors and there i am a happy boy. My go to place for gellato and to sit on the benches people watch and enjoy the ambiance. They do have a variety of flavors, but since i am a creature of habit i havent tried anything beyond what i get. Why spoil a good thing? Anyhow, its pretty good stuff.
(5)Madeline A.
I am appalled! How did I forget to write a review for the blessed Pitango? Heads up -- I'm vegan. Yes, they have WONDERFUL vegan options...always. I usually have a minimum of 3 options, but my favorite is always a chocolatey something sorbet. Their lattes (illy coffee) are also so good! They made me a vegan hot chocolate once even though it's not on the menu. I think the girl just blended soy milk and dark chocolate sorbet and then heated it up -- DELICIOUS!).
(5)Kelli H.
This is my favorite place to go for a cold and sweet treat in Baltimore. It is very quaint inside, very clean, and there is good service. Favorite flavors: Chocolate Hazelnut - I normally do not like ice creams with chocolate, but this is divine. Black tea - Incredible! Tastes better than I imagined. Raspberry - delicious. I also sampled, and then bought this Italian version of Nutella. It's amazing!! The only downside is that it is expensive like everyone else mentioned. Over $5 is bit steep for a small. Also, there is not much seating, and not really parking if you want to take the ice cream out. There is this no parking zone in front which you can risk leaving your flashers on, however I would prefer not to. Otherwise this place is wonderful and I am definitely coming back again and again!
(4)jon l.
The Gelato is some of the best I have tasted! They have many flavors to choose from and you taste as many as you like before choosing one, two or even three in your cup. They also have quarts to go (or if your really hungry). The desert would be alone enough for me to drive over, but what makes this place even better is the location in fells point where you can walk across the street and sit by the bay. They are also open late which is so nice.

I'm a Baltimore native that isn't easily swayed by fancy new places in suddenly "trendy" neighborhoods - so I didn't expect much when I visited this small gelato shop in Fells Point. It's probably a good thing that I didn't, because to set my bar high in this instance would have led to a huge, disastrous letdown. I had the spicy chocolate coupled with the chocolate "noir" (how cutesy), while the Love of My Life tried the bacio and stracciatella flavors. Can't say how his tasted, as I didn't bother trying it; for myself, I think I expected a lot more "punch" out of the spicy chocolate. It just... didn't burn to my satisfaction. Oh, the gelato itself was just fine - very sweet, rich and tasted good - but for the buildup, the endless "wow" reviews, the price (especially the price) - it just plain wasn't worth it. The experience with the staff was definitely a positive, however; they allowed my boyfriend to try flavors as he liked, even though the place was packed. I think he liked it a bit better than I did. It's good for what it is, and there's definitely no competition in this arena, but... I don't know. I just found the overall experience lacking. I'll maybe return when I'm in the area, but I'm not going to make any special trips to get it. The price is definitely a factor here - for what I spent on one gelato, I could have gotten two items at Rita's, and unfortunately I think I would have enjoyed them a lot more.
(3)Emily P.
Even after trying all these wonderful gelato sites in Italy including Gelateria di Piazza in SanGamignano, Italy (voted #1 ice cream in the world yrs ago), I still think this place is probably one of the best places to get gelato. My favorite hands down is black tea. (: I tried their latte flavored with scoop of gelato and enjoyed that very much as well. Downside: No parking lots - all street parking. Its hard to find a spot when its a nice day out!
(5)Jarrod F.
ok so I've been here enough times now that I've tried every single flavor. There isn't nothing I don't love about this place. The employees are great. It's clean, it's sleek, it's modern, it's different. But holy cow Batman... this join be priceeeyyy! Am I the only one that thinks $6.50 for a 5 oz cup of Gelato is expensive? I mean I know it's the "large" size (which is really just a kiddie cup in disguise), but you can't full a professional fatty like myself. I know what a small is, and Pitango's small is the same size cup they collect for urine samples at drug clinics. Actually its way smaller. Trust me, I've been before. If there was real gold in this gelato, I may not have no right to complain. But there isn't. Maybe the business's profits are being taxed 85% because its Baltimore and someone has to pay for the thousands of crack head babies and their new diapers. Or maybe its because Pitango is just a royal rip-off'? but I have to confess, outside the price issue... this stuff is very good. The choc. hazelnut, creme fraiche, almond, and pistachio are my favorites. But there really is no BAD flavor in here. It's all good.

I discovered this place a few years back during the summer and had their gelato which was amazing. Silky, smooth, light, just sweet enough and on a hot summers day, the mango/lemonade combo hits the spot like nobodies business. I've had the winter flavors, they're alright, I'm not partial to ice cream and since a lot of them are chocolate based flavors, they remind me more of ice cream than the refreshing, fruity summer treat I'm used to. However, Pitango is a regular for me in the winter because they have great cappuccino. Strong, robust, aromatic, thick and well prepared by the friendly staff. I journey in from the suburbs of anne arundel county to get a taste of their cappuccino and in the summer I have walked from camden yards just to get some gelato. If you haven't tried their coffee, I highly recommend it.
(4)Bianca L.
The best gelato I've had in the U.S. I've been looking for a comparable product to what I had while living in Sicily, and this is as close as you can get here. The texture is fantastic, which is what is usually missing from other so called gelato places. They have a nice mix of traditional Italian flavors and innovative ones, especially with the sorbettos. It's also nice they have a vegan chocolate sorbetto for my son who can't eat dairy but loves chocolate! The cost is on the high side, but I would rather pay the same amount of money for a small cup of quality gelato as a pint of crappy grocery store ice cream. We recommend it to everyone we can!
(5)J. M.
Probably the best gelato place in the DMV area [not that I've tried all of 'em] and not shamefully incomparable to the best gelato I've had in my life [il laboratorio del gelato on the LES in NY]. Why would you want to go eat ice-cream anywhere in the area when you can have this gelato? Very charming/friendly staff and some prize options on the menu. Gives Fell's Point much needed respectability that it richly deserves with its sub-par bars, restaurants and perpetually fratty environment [in night time].
(5)Dave A.
Wanted to shove my face into the vat of hazelnut. Very friendly staff.
(5)Charles L.
Great Gelato at Pitango. It's more than ice cream, but I consider Gelato a treat that I don't eat all that often so the price was fine with me. And I always get the vanilla, it's just soooo goood.
(4)Maria A.
Although picey, this IS the best gelateria in town. Oh yeas. I have tried ice cream and ice cream again on my quest to finding the best gelato for my partner, who LOVES Gelato. Well this is impeccably it. Growing up in Italy, I had the benefit and blessing of enjoying authentic Italian gelato. I would ask my mamma to take me to the gelateria by the piazza. How funny that Pitango is also right next to Fells point "piazza'. A must try is the Nocciola, hazelnut, maybe cause I love saying so much and it taste like Nutella. Plenty of sitting to go around and on a nice day there is outside sitting too. If you are craving a caffe instead...they have that there too!
(5)sonia g.
YUM. but so pricey. a rare, guilty pleasure.
(4)Lu H.
This place is mind-blowingly good. I sampled almost everything - and while some flavors were more subtle than expected (white grapefruit, quince, coconut), the majority of what I tried actually took my breath away. Yes, this is love at first taste, and absolutely ranks as one of the best gelato/sorbets I've had. The black tea flavor tastes just like a bubble milk tea, and my roommate got it with almond. It was a perfectly creamy, seamless blend that tasted like - what else - an almond milk tea! After sampling 10 flavors I went with rhubarb and spicy chocolate. The rhubarb was astounding. I loved it. It was the perfect blend of sweet and tart, which is what I love about rhubarb desserts to begin with, but as a sorbet it was totally refreshing and perfect for a muggy 90 degree day in Baltimore. Spicy chocolate was also a sorbet, and it reminded me of a Mexican pudding. It wasn't too spicy, which can distract from the chocolate flavor. Definitely best for a chocolate lover, and as a sorbet it was nice and light to balance out the intense chocolate flavor. It may have been too heavy as a gelato, but just right as sorbet. There was a guy working behind the counter who was great - very polite and encouraged as much sampling as you wanted. He also gave very generous portions for your order. Unfortunately I got mine from a brunette girl behind the counter who spent most of her time eating gelato (no joke- the entire time I was there. I think she sampled/ate more than I did). She then stood behind the guy while he was helping someone else, and only when I asked her to help me did she get my order. She plopped a very messy and small portion into a cup. It was such a discrepancy that I actually asked her for a little more on top, because she put no effort into the scoop. That was the only negative experience. Otherwise, this place is amazing and the food highlight of my Baltimore trip. Just make sure you get the guy to help you.

I do love me some Pitango Gelato. Prices are a bit high, $5.50 for a cup, but the gelato is dense and creamy and you'll probably be satisfied by the end. I usually go on a sampling spree which the staff is happy to indulge. In fact, they are generally nice, efficient, and know their product. My favorite gelato flavors are the nutty flavors: hazelnut, almond, and chocolate hazelnut. They are all good though.I usually skip the sorbet because the gelato is so good, but the chocolate noir, spicy chocolate, and the strawberry are mighty tasty. Last time I got the afogoto ($4.50). It was a double espresso with a scoop of bacio gelato (choc hazelnut w/ chocolate chips). Very tasty, the bitter coffee and sweet gelato were a great match. One staff member touted it as having a great combo of hot and cold, but it was almost all cold when I received it. Oh well, it still tasted great. If I'm down in Fell's Point and craving dessert, I'll either come here or Mr. Yogato's. However, I've been increasingly picking Pitango recently, with good reason, Check it out if you haven't!
(4)Jessica L.
Do it. Come here! The best gelato ever. And I've been to Italy and enjoyed gelato there. My friends from New York City always want to come here. The flavors are so incredibly fresh! My faves are black tea and cardamom - tastes like Chai Tea together! The fruit flavors are amazing - pear, mango, pomegranate, tangerine. Spicy chocolate is definitely unique because it has some heat behind it. Seating is very limited and sometimes there's a line but it goes fast. The servers are very patient and you can try as many flavors as you want. They also have a rewards system where you have 10 visits and you get $3.50 off your 11th visit. Just remember, you get points for each time you visit, not each gelato you buy. I've been burned before when I paid for my friend's gelato to get extra points when that was not the case. You can get up to 2 flavors with a regular size and 3 flavors with a large. I take all my out of town friends here!
(5)Amanda I.
The flavors here are so fresh. The only thing that I dislike is they switch out the flavors every so often, so they don't always have my favorite- but always have a great alternative!

Post-lunch in Litttle Italy, I skillfully steered my dad to the Fell's Point Pitango for what I was sure would be a life-changing experience. He absolutely loves pistachio, and I knew Pitango would blow the green ice cream at Giant out of the water. My only hesitation was price. Me: "Dad, the gelato here is kind of.... expensive." Him: "The flavors are framed. I assumed as much." Whew. At 3:30 the place was kind of empty, so we had time to sample our hearts out. The guy at the cash register was pretty much the best customer service person ever. Dad: "I'm having a hard time deciding." Him: "We have a great Black Tea flavor [hands over tiny spoon]. Or if you like you can try the Espresso, made from [insert a detailed description of where and how they harvest the beans]. Have you had our local Quince sorbet?" After extensive tasting, we both ordered smalls ($4.50), which can accommodate two flavors. I went for cardamom/chocolate hazelnut, which was a perfect blend of rich and creamy. There were actual cardamom pods in the gelato, which lent a fun crunch. It's obvious from the wall displays and descriptions, informative staff and stellar product that Pitango is serious about its gelato. My dad is a pretty hard sell when it comes to price point, but I think it's fair to say he's now a fan.
(4)Diana W.
Cold night, full from a lovely dinner, no room for dessert or thoughts of something cold, but they also had a sign for coffee and hot chocolate and we had time before our next stop. Nice young women behind the counter let us try a few flavors, my fav black tea, my companions both liked the pistachio. While the gelati were excellent, the real stars of the experience were the hot chocolate and the mocha. The hot chocolate was DUH-MAZING, hot rich deep chocolate goodness that wasn't sickeningly sweet. I got it with steamed milk. I think I could have gone through a gallon of it without ever getting tired of the taste. The mocha was equally delightful, according to my coffee drinking companion. Ambiance is fine, service was excellent, quality of product was fantastic. I will definitely return on my next visit to Fells Point, no matter what time of year.
(4)Crispy Tac O.
DELICIOUS! Some of the best gelato I have ever had. The person that helped us was also nice and hilarious.
(5)Marina P.
Not a fan. also, despite others review there is no Frozen Yogurt. Just had bad service from teenage girls who seemed to not care about work. shame.

There is a moment upon entering Pitango where a hush falls upon one's soul. It is like walking to a church, your feet firmly planted in the devil's anteroom where he can only pace and desperately desire and weep ruby tears of soft flame. Then you take one step forward and suddenly there is a calm peace around you that hums, and sings, and smells wonderfully of love. The thing about love is that it is so good at being hate, or worse, apathy. It is strong and immediate and blisteringly beautiful and then it fades and breaks so quickly, until all that remains is the snarling grey gargoyle of a memory. The price we pay for love is eternity - measured penny by penny along an uncertain but ever darkening road. The only question, then, is whether it is worth it. Pitango makes gelato. They also make love, pure love in the pulled and shaped forms of a cold treat. I stood in the sun and let my eyes adjust to the bright stinking emerald of our harbor and ate a cup of canteloupe sorbet. I sat on a bench where a small dog and I spoke softly on the mysteries of water and bones and the trees whose bent arms reach down to softly assure us as we walk underneath them, and I idly found a cup of straciatella disappearing into me(and the dog as well, don't tell his owner). There is love here in every flavor and in the process, and in the staff as well, that clearly love the store as much as the customers love the local and seasonal offerings. A long time ago I knew a girl that worked here as well as I have known my own pulse - I loved as a fool loves, a yellow flame burning impure. As a result it was two years since I last stepped foot into Pitango until quite recently. Two years seems long, but time, like regret, like love, can be paid for. The gelato makes up for it, it truly does. Of special note is the espresso at this location. Pitango still makes the best classically made italian espresso in the city, hands down. Once it was a ritual to stop by after work and drink a cup of espresso while admiring a pair of sapphire eyes. Once, the gelato and the espresso was not enough; time wears a soul down more sharply than the person around it, and now, it is not simply enough, it is sublime. i cannot recommend a finer establishment in the city to feed even the very white cuticles of the heart, the sparking flame that threatens always to burn out before the dark makes it redundant.
(5)Ji Y.
They have a lot of gelato flavors. It is creamy but not too heavy. My favorite is the vanilla gelato with the chocolate chips. I don't know what is about those chocolates but they are so addicting! I heard someone saying "drinkable chocolate" as their order and it looked like the most amazing hot chocolate ever! Next time, I may need to just skip the gelato and try that out! Or, have both if my waist allows both treat!
(4)Elizabeth J.
I'm sorry it's taken me so long to write this. Their service is excellent and their amazing gelato is worth the struggle to find parking in Fell's Point on a Friday night. I used to come here strictly for the spicy chocolate, but these days I come here for the affogato. My daughter and I are addicted. An affogato, if you haven't had one before, is a shot of espresso over your gelato. Genius! My daughter gets hers with hot chocolate on top instead of the espresso and loves it. I like mixing up the flavors, but it's always good with cardamom, Nocciola (hazelnut) or Pistachio di Bronte. This is a great place to relax and talk after dinner. It's a little small inside, but during the summer there are ample benches around Fell's Point and I love to walk down the pier and enjoy mine on the water font.
(5)Amrita R.
Can't stop thinking about the passion fruit and the mojita (lime/mint) gelatos. Perfectly made, just the right amount of flavor. A bit icy but it hit the spot. The black tea was amazing and tasted just like it, and the chocolate hazelnut was also well made. I, however, was in the mood for some fruity flavors. Two friends ordered the hot chocolate and it was literally, melted chocolate and whipped cream. That's my kind of hot chocolate! I loved all the unique and broad range of flavors... If I lived around here, I'd be back ASAP.
(5)Vitaliy N.
This is gelato, not ice cream. What is gelato? It's a mix between sorbet and frozen yogurt. It's good. It's refreshing. This is the best place in the Baltimore area to get it. I got harvest apricot and hazelnut. Both were terrific. There is a good assortment of flavors, but not a lot of classics. As you can see in the pictures of the menu wall, you're encouraged to branch out and try something new. I previously wrote that they do not have a Nutella flavor. Well, I stand corrected. Pitango makes their own version of this flavor, called the classic chocolate hazelnut which they make with their own cocoa and hazelnuts. My concerns with Pitango are that it's expensive (but everything is handcrafted and high-quality), the line is long (they are popular), they take a while to serve customers (again, because of the crowd), and there are not a lot of places to sit inside. The gelato is awesome, however and I highly recommend it.
(4)Elizabeth D.
Good gelato, especially if you mix a few flavors, but on the costly side for what you get.
(3)Vicky D.
Had my first affogatto here and it was amaaaazing! For those not in the know, an affogatto is a scoop of gelato (they won't do it with sorbet cuz that'd just be weird) in a shot of espresso. It's perfect for me because I usually struggle with the small serving of gelato since I tend to come here for dessert. The coffee helps prevent food coma and makes me feel less full. I think I've only ordered something else once, a mojito sorbet. It was deeelicious, super refreshing and light (and non-alcoholic). They also have hot chocolate, but beware: it's really really thick and filling, almost like syrup. Also seriously addicting.
(5)Ada G.
Yummy creative gelato goodness galore! Great location! Awesome personal staff! When I was there last time, I had half and half passion-fruit and lemon sorbet. If it wasn't so hot out, I would have tried the spicy dark chocolate or espresso flavor or maybe pistachio or banana. Their menu is so amazing! There are so many flavors to try that I will be forced to go back frequently and indulge We like to take our gelato for a walk down to the end of the pier to enjoy the water views and the gelato together. I highly recommend this place!
(5)Abby W.
I know we're probably crazy for craving gelato in 40 degree weather, but when Pitango calls, you answer. I've been to this quaint little shop several times in the past, but I wanted to get a few more flavors under my belt before I yelped about it. But really, it's not necessary, every flavor is delicious, refreshing, and natural. Rating Breakdown: 2/2 Stars for Taste - Pitango has some of the best gelato flavors I've ever tasted on the East coast. My personal favorite will always be the Black Tea. It's light and aromatic, goes perfect with any other creamy flavor. I also like the Cardamom, but it has a distinctive taste that's not for everyone. If you like fruitier flavors/sorbets, you can't go wrong with the Bosch Pear. When I stuck the sample spoon in my mouth, my first thought was, "Oh my, that's pear-y." It was like biting into an icy pear, Rita's Juicy Pear flavor doesn't even begin to compare. Also, the consistency of the gelato is just right, not too icy, not too creamy. You definitely get what you paid for. 1/1 Stars for Value - Gelato is not a cheap dessert. With that in mind, if you're willing to throw down $4-7 bucks to give your mouth a good time, Pitango is the place to go. My eyes are usually harder to satisfy than my stomach. Pitango's serving sizes are just right. Even though I may eye the cups skeptically at first, once I'm done with the cup, I'm just on the right side of satisfied. The quality of the gelato is the best and the care that was put into crafting these delicate flavors is clear in every bite. 1/1 for Customer Service - When it comes to ice cream parlors/gelato bars, I am usually very reluctant to go crazy with the samples. And let's face it, if you're allergic to commitment like me, sampling is a vital part in choosing the right flavor for you. The ladies working behind the counter made me feel comfortable and encouraged me to try as many flavors as I wanted. I wasn't rushed. I wasn't shamed. It was fabulous. Bonus Star because this is definitely my go-to place for gelato in Baltimore. If given the choice between Mr. Yogato and Maggie Moo, I'd rather take my moolah to Pitango any day. Sure, I pay a little more, but the quality and satisfaction that comes with this dessert is well worth it.
(5)Quyen N.
Not that this place needs another review, but I wanted to add my one cent (their 223rd review)! My sister, her husband, and I stopped by here for dessert after our lunch at a nearby tapas place on a hot, sunny weekend afternoon. I was amazed and delighted to see the substantial selection of (all-vegan) sorbet flavors! Organic as well as local when possible. The fruity sorbets are made from actual real fruit, believe it or not. My selection of chocolate noir and mojito sorbet was excellent! So happy! Such a sorbet place is missing in Hawaii! Baltimore rocks!
(5)Joe K.
I go pretty often when down in fells point. Great staff and awesome selection of gelato. Coffee from Zeke's makes a great pairing and the pricing leaves the experience worth while for return. Try the spicy chocolate if they have it, makes a good pairing with creme.
(5)Chosei K.
Pitango Gelato changed my life. Pitango and I both moved to Fells Point around the same time in 2007, and I've spent an extraordinary sum of money on our relationship. The staff is always friendly, attentive and inviting as they welcome you to try a free sample or two. It's a bit pricey, but it's worth it for a special occasion or for visitors. Well, since I really love frozen dessert, it's worth stopping by there anytime I make it to Fells. Pistachio will always remain my favorite gelato flavor. Chocolate hazelnut and banana are also pretty tasty. I am also a huge fan of all the sorbets. Strawberry, passion fruit, rhubarb, grapefruit, tangerine, raspberry, and even chocolate noir - Pitango Gelato offers a light refreshing dessert for people of all preferences. Since I moved from Fells, I see less of Pitango, but it's always a nice treat when we do run into each other.
(5)Anne Y.
On a gloomy stormy day.. this little gelato shop can really make the sun shine in my heart! ahaha :) One word: AFFOGATO! Genius! Why don't they have this on the west coast?. My two favorites - espresso and gelato! YUMMMMMM I tried the chocolate hazelnut (which actually has the nuts in there - so it gave it some crunchiness!) witht eh affogato which was delicious! My friend got the chocolate noir. Black tea and almond was also good.. but i was just craving chocolate that day w/ my espresso. If youre a visitor like me.... this place is a MUST!
(5)Melissa C.
How can you not like gelato??? This is definitely the place to go for the good stuff (and I lived off of it once in Italy). Delicious & delightful gelato (and sorbet) is what you will get here. Oddly enough, the sorbet is almost as creamy and rich as the gelato. Great on a warm or cold day (add espresso). Staff are always ready to answer questions or offer samples. Seating is limited, so be prepared to take your gelato on a stroll through the streets of Fells Point.
(5)Amanda P.
There isn't one negative thing I could say about this place. Their lattes are amazing. I asked where they get their espresso and coffee from and it's from a place in North Carolina. Hands down the best latte I've ever had. The staff was extremely nice and patient with my 4 year old who was not on his best behavior to say the least :/ The gelato is also the best I've ever had. I recommend the hazelnut.
(5)Daniel K.
hands down best gelato you'll ever have. ingredients are fresh, they seriously taste like you're eating the real deal. just tried one of their new flavors "black tea". OMG SO GOOD. i keep falling in love with this place. some of my favorites include concord grape, granny smith, mojito. also love the crema, hazelnut, and expresso. you can opt for two flavors, so definitely mix and match to find your tiny slice of heaven. they also have 3 flavored cakes here that you can pre-order. great idea for a tasty celebration of any kind!
(5)Kylie D.
Mmmm....Yum! Pitango is always a great treat whether you're strolling through Fells or on your way home and decide to run in and grab something good while your BF circles the block in the car. I don't eat ice cream and I can really only have a spoonful or two of gelato, so I usually opt for the sorbets which are normally dynamite. On my last trip, the sorbet pickings were pretty thin so I got the bosc pear. Meh - not great, but not too sweet so very refreshing. As I said, the sorbet flavors are usually out-of-this-world and I always mix at least two flavors - my favorites are mojito, quince, raspberry and tangerine. A funny side note: Give yourself some time at Pitango. People in front of you will insist on trying samples of 6 different flavors and the scoopers will take their time scooping... apparently it's quite an art to get that gelato in those little cups.

This is the best ice cream (or frozen sweet goodness - it's all gelato here) in the area. i was sold on the healthy feel good photos of organic farms on the walls, fresh fresh ingredients, and generous free samples of the flavors. The folks who work here seem to love their work. There's something touching about the scoopers' upbeat mannerisms, friendliness, and the amount of care put into their work. you'd think they were doing brain surgery, alas they're scooping your ice cream. I like the cinnamon, hazelnut, coconut flavors. it's a bit pricey - the best deal is to go with a friend, partner, spouse and shell out for the 1.4 pints to split or bring home or just indulge... mmm-mmmm.

Walking into Pitango, I always with there was more seating. The reason? It takes a while to eat that gelato! Anyone who is experienced in this chilly treat knows how rich it is. I can wolf down frozen yogurt, and even ice cream, but you get a tiny spoon for a reason. You don't need (and really shouldn't) to eat a whole lot of gelato. A little goes a long way. That said, you pay a lot for a little. You can get two flavors in a small cup or three in a "large" cup (large meaning slightly less small). The amount you get is just right, but I feel the price is too much. My favorite flavor has to be the pistachio, but the hazelnut is nothing to scoff at. They have a few flavors that rotate out (like spicy chocolate, or green tea), but I tend to like the constant ones better. You can sample any or all of the flavors. Definitely worth a visit, but perhaps not repeatedly. Especially because the street parking can be nearly impossible!

Really delicious, rich, smooth gelato offered in a variety of flavors. I've been waiting for awhile to try Pitango and it did not disappoint. Albeit, a bit pricey, though the gelato is lusciously rich that the regular size (can get two flavors) was just enough. The flavors they are offering for the day are displayed in little frames on the wall. When you reach the counter, the gelato are concealed in little silver containers with lids (similar to GROM in NYC). We didn't try any of the sorbet flavors. I tried the chocolate noir (dark chocolate with cocoa nibs) and the hazelnut. SX had the pistachio and the milk tea. I would rate the quality of the gelato about on par with GROM, however Pitango does not offer some of the more traditional gelato flavors. Also, no amaretti cookies either if that's something you're looking for. We will definitely be back when we're in the Fells Point area.

Very tiny cups, for quite a few coins, but what amazing flavors!! Cardamom, cinnamon, pistachio - and those are just the nutty ones!

This place is an easy 5/5...(yelp won't let me leave 6 start, shame on you yelp!) Best gelato hands down. Go for the black tea and you won't regret it (and this is from a chocolate lover). Also espresso flavor was great too. Beyond the best quality, the service was fantastic. You can pretty much try every flavor you want before committing (they don't make you feel guilty about it!). Very friendly service. Amazing. If I lived here I'd come here once a week. If I worked here, I'd have uncontrolled diabetes... that's me shooting up my insulin in the back.

So good the pistachio was my favorite the coconut is excellent as well! -pay to park, be fast getting your change in or you will be approached by a bum, a little hard to find using our gps.

Their gelato is amazing, especially their almond, black tea, and hazelnut flavors. No matter how full I am, there's always room in my belly for Pitango!

Great ice cream place. Good quality with very friendly service. The location is also very charming. Wish their prices were a little more affordable but what can you do.

Pitango is a wonderful spot in Fells Point that's perfect for a quick treat or a small dessert after dinner. The flavor selection is incredible, and the fact that you can get two or three flavors blended makes the possibilities almost endless. Some might consider the price too high and the portions too small, but you're paying for quality and getting every penny's worth. As for the portions, this stuff is rich, so I can't imagine eating more than the largest size here. If you're looking for a giant sweet treat, head somewhere else (but whatever you get's not going to beat Pitango!).

I'd never had gelato prior to Pitango, and wasn't at all sure what the consistency and texture would be in comparison to traditional ice cream. I was pleasantly surprised, and my only qualm with Pitango is that it's location in Fell's Point is so very far from me in Hampden. However, the proprietors use locally sourced ingredients and established this successful business from originally homemade gelato recipes, so it's absolutely worth a go, even on a cold, foggy day. Choose gelato on its own in a cup, or go for the Affogato where you can enjoy sipping on a shot or two of espresso with a generous scoop of gelato in the middle, melting slowly. (I suggest hazelnut.) Favorite flavors should probably include all of them, but I'm a creature of habit so I love the vanilla, crema and hazelnut. Also in love with the fact that they stay open extra late during the humid summer hours, when you need a cool fix.

I was dragged here in protest since I wanted to relive my glory days at Mr. Yogato, but I'm glad I was dragged. The gelato here matches what I've had in Italy, except with cooler flavors! Why would you want strawberry gelato when you can get passionfruit gelato that actually tastes like passionfruit, not the crazy syrup they put into bubble tea! Good stuff.

Took the Water Taxi to Fells Point while on a trip in Baltimore and decided to go in here as I had saw it the last time I was in town. The girl behind the counter was very friendly and helpful. I chose the Chocolate Hazelnut and I could not stop eating it until it was all gone. This place does Gelato very well. Won't be forgetting it. I need another fix right now.

Wow - this is some really fantastic gelato. In fact, it's better, fresher and more inventive than many of the gelato places we visited on a recent trip to Italy, the land of gelato. I don't think I've ever had a bad experience here. Kudos to the owners for their commitment to locally-sourced ingredients when possible. If you are a dark chocolate fan, please, please try their Chocolate Noir - your sweet tooth will thank you.

Once you go Pitango, you don't ever want to go back to ice cream (that might be a bit of an exaggeration, but you get my point). Pitango is one of my favorite dessert spots in Baltimore. They have really unique flavors and often use local fruits for their gelato. I like mixing my flavors; some of my favorite mixes I really love is Black Tea + Cardamon (makes it taste like chai tea!), Grapefruit + Mojito Pitango is the perfect place to cool you down during hot Baltimore summers!

Pitango, you can do me no wrong. I accidentally found myself here twice in one week (Ok, maybe not so accident). My personal favorite is the Earl Grey gelato because it reminds me of the traditional black milk tea I love so much, but I have tried a variety of flavors before and they were all amazing. Bacio is a close second favorite. The service is always friendly and they're ready for suggestions if you can't make up your mind. This place is one of my all time favorites. I have no reservations about driving 30 minutes for some Pitango, rain or shine.

Absolutely delicious gelato and hot chocolate. Pitango is not cheap but you get what you're paying for. I've never had gelato that was anything other than top quality here, and service has always been fast and friendly. The one thing that I cannot comment on is their coffee. I debated between giving Pitango four or five stars because their prices are high, but in the end I figured that if I go here frequently enough to put a serious dent in my wallet the health concerns will vastly outweigh the financial ones.

This is as good as it gets. By far the purist gelato I have ever had in the US. I had the white grapefruit, which is made with fresh-squeezed organic Florida grapefruits, this refreshing flavor is so pure, you could eat it for breakfast. It's a wonderful palate cleanser and combines surprisingly well with chocolate. I had to go for this unique flavor.

Whenever I get an ice cream craving so intense that I'm tempted to forgo my veganness all I have to do is head to Pitango for their chocolate sorbet. It's so decadent and richly flavored that it's hard to believe it's also dairy-free. Yes it's expensive but so is any quality gelato. Plus the price prevents me from visiting every day, which is a very good thing.

A friend brought me here the other night after we had both finished our last week of final exams, and can I just say that I was swept off my feet by their absolutely unique and delectable flavors. They make all of their gelato themselves out of organic ingredients and milk from cattle on their very own dairy farm. I literally couldn't decide what flavors of gelato I wanted, and I really appreciated how patiently the worker on the other side of the counter waited for me to choose. After over 5 minutes of gushing at the different types of gelato behind the counter, finally I opted to sample not one, not two, but SEVEN gelato flavors. Finally I chose Mojito and Sicilian Almond. Both tasted so unique and unlike anything I had ever tasted before. I felt enlightened by a completely new sensation of eating. Ahhhh I can practically envision the taste of the Mojito on my tongue right now. YUMMMM!! I'm definitely going back for more!! Despite the steep price, they're willing to give you as many samples as you ask for. I even got a sample of their thick European-style hot chocolate as I left, which is heavenly in its own right. Given the quality of all their foods, it's well worth it -- especially for a date, guys. =)

Love! I tried the Green Tea Gelato and the coconut gelato. So good!!! One of the best gelato i've had in a really long time. So light, smooth, and perfect. A must try if you are in the area. The coconut tasted natural; it didn't taste like your typical artificial flavored foods. The green tea was very unique. It isn't for everyone. If you are into weird flavored ice creams or gelato, try the green tea gelato, you may just become obsessed with it.

This is THE place to go for Gelato/Froyo in Fell's! Black sesame, hazelnut chocolate, pistachio are my favorite. Slightly pricey though at ~$6 for a regular cup of two flavors. I think they are open late too.
(4)Tiffany H.
I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!! Best gelato ever and they let me try whatever I want!!!!
(5)Kawah W.
Rhubarb, almond, black sesame, mojito! This was my first visit to Baltimore and I was blown away by the flavors of this place! After walking around visiting all the wonders Baltimore had to offer, a cone full of gelato was a great way to end it. The place is dainty and the cost is worth it for the generous amount.

Awesome gelato and coffee

I'm on a nationwide search to find gelato like I had in Italy. This ranks pretty close! The staff was helpful and the gelato was great. The worst part of the experience: The 5 girls ahead of us in line that seemed to need to try a sampling of every flavor before deciding what to purchase.

Pitango is one of my favorite spots to frequent in Baltimore. They have the best gelato in the city and can probably hold their own against many gelato stores elsewhere. Everything is fresh and organic. My favorites are the concord grape sorbet, quince sorbet, cantaloupe sorbet, pistachio gelato, and matcha green tea gelato. Their spicy chocolate gelato is pretty awesome too. The flavors can run from very prominent (like pistachio) to very subtle (like crema) but this is because they don't add artificial flavors to boost the taste. They serve hot chocolate during the colder months and its very thick. It's more European style than American style. If you like chocolate, you ought to give it a try. Price is a little on the high side but should be expected given that it uses organic and often local ingredients. And the taste is still worth the money in my opinion. You can also order a half pint and a pint if you want to take some home with you. Just have it thaw for about 30 minutes before serving to give it the right consistency. Lastly, I dont know if they still offer it or not, but they used to make a gelato ice cream cake if you asked them. I don't know how much it costs though.

This is GOOD gelato. I love all sweet desserts. So, when my friend suggested getting gelato, after our feast of french toast, eggs, hashbrowns, etc, of course I jumped on it. WHY NOT. Sure, everyone needs to watch their figure.. but I love sweets. One of the most unique facts about this gelato place is that there are unique and organic items. From cardimom to quince, the types of flavors are endless. I got a pistachio and espresso gelato mix, while my friend got the quince with bourbon vanilla. We were both happy with our choices. The gelato was so smooth and light, it was great as an after meal snack. The espresso gelato was surprisingly strong (rather than normal fake coffee tasting gelato) which made me happy as well. Additionally, they pack the cup full of gelato (instead of ripping you off), so you get your money's worth. I want to go back for the matcha green tea.... and other flavors. They even had a chocolate hazelnut one which tasted exactly like nutella......

Delish! The staff is always friendly and not angry with you when you can't make up your mind on flavors. And they let you taste test as many as you want before coming up with a final selection :) Also, I love that with the small size you get a choice of two flavors. I hate when some places only let you pick one flavor because its the small. I don't want to get a bigger size just to accommodate another flavor, I just want to mix two gelato flavors man! Atmosphere is light and fun. They have facts on the wall about how the gelato is made.

AMAZING. A must stop if you're in the area. The quality was outstanding.

I was excited to try this place because of the wonderful things said about it, but I thought that it was just okay. I got the pistachio and chocolate chip gelato. The pistachio was very good, but the chocolate chip tasted a little strange to me. Maybe I was only use to chocolate chip ice-cream, but I would not order it again. The next time I go I will definitely order the pistachio one again and try another flavor.

I had high expectations for Pitango Gelato because I kept hearing insanely good things about it. I am very glad that it did not disappoint! Pitango in Fell's Point may very well be one of the best gelato joints in Maryland. While there is a definite difference from regular ice cream and gelato, what really caught my eye in this hip little shoppe were their incredibly fresh sorbets and their amazing flavors. After sampling their rich and dense hazelnut and vanilla bean flavors, I opted for their quince and bosc pear sorbets, which were absolutely amazing. Light, refreshing, and not too sweet. I had never seen quince used in a sorbet before and was quite excited. While prices are a little steep for the amount they give you, this place is definitely worth a try. A small cup will run you about $5 (you can chose two flavors). I wouldn't really recommend this place for young children. It's more of a grown-up ice cream place, but if you know a savvy 10 year old who has an appreciation for rhubarb, then this might be a nice little field trip.

This is one of those places where you wish you could come up with some new superlatives to describe how good it is. Pitango has a cute, welcoming storefront on the square in Fells Point. The old windows and door harmonize beautifully with the clean, modern interior, and the place feels upscale without any hint of pretense or snobbishness. And rarely has snobbery been so well-deserved. This is, bar none, the best place for ice cream in Baltimore. Evar. It might be the best place for ice cream in the whole wide world. I suppose if you're looking for gloppy sundaes dripping with fudge and sprinkes, then you're going to be disappointed. That's not what they do here. Go somewhere else for that, and enjoy. I mean, hey, I'm as down with the odd banana split as the next guy, in the same way that I can appreciate the occasional Big Mac. It doesn't always have to be prime rib. But if you're looking for unbelievably creamy, so smooth on the tongue it might be obscene, layers of flavor that make you start talking about gelato as if it were fine wine, then this is the place to call home. It's so good, that I've just had a cup of their banana gelato, and it is without a doubt the best ice cream I have ever had in my life. And I don't even LIKE bananas. It's so good, that the next time I'm in Italy and I get gelato, I'll end up making yuckface and telling everyone nearby about how it's not nearly as good as the gelato I get back home. It's so good, I'm not worried about over-gushing in this review, and getting your expectations set too high, so that you're disappointed. Impossible. While they have some core flavors (try the spicy chocolate!), the menu changes all the time as they take advantage of the ingredients in season. That means that - alas - unless you hurry, you're probably not going to get to taste that amazing banana wonderfulness. But worry not. There will be something else that's almost as good. Oh, and coffee. Outstanding. As good an espresso as I've had anywhere, and the only place in the city to get a real cappuccino. Dis me all you like for that last statement, but go get a coffee from them first and then tell me otherwise. The barristas take their coffee seriously here. Which brings me to the people that run the place. Damn, they're friendly. They'll give you a taste of anything in the gelato case, so don't be afraid to ask for a sample.

All I can say is 'OH MY GOD" this place is great. I LOVE the Mojito sorbet and their Gianduja (chocolate hazelnut) Gelato is pretty kickin' too. I've only been 1 place that is better and it was 10 hours from Baltimore and it is run by first generation Italians! The people at Pitango are always more than willing to let you try some flavors before you commit- which I think is nice, though confusing b/c I often then want to get multiple flavors!! I'm glad I live in Canton and not Fells Point b/c I would probably weigh 500 lbs because this place is THAT good (note all the CAPS and exclamation marks in this review). If you have not been, get there fast- you'll love it.
