"This place isn't bad, for a quick lunch at a chain restaurant" "It's not a chain" "WHAT?!?" Manchurian Rice Co is American Chinese food - not necessarily at its best, or at its worst. They keep it not too oily, not too spicy, but possibly a tad on a bland side. You probably won't find anything on the menu you'll hate, or that you'll love, despite an extensive menu. The thing is, it's a lunch for around 10 bucks (you can go under or over a bit easily) that comes out in about 10 minutes after you order, and can easily be brought back to work. That means - I'm gonna be a regular here. For my first venture I got the shrimp pad thai. It was a tad on the bland side, just a bit spicy, and okay. The shrimp was actually quite good (larger than you'll find at many places, especially for lunch and for 10 bucks). As a pro-tip, that my co-worker found out - you get a free roll (egg roll I think) if you order off the lunch special menu. She wasn't a fan of the roll... but its free, so worth considering - hey, you might even like it.

Generally when I try a new place for Chinese food, I use their orange chicken as my gauge. Such was also the case with this location. The chicken was just ok... not quite crispy enough, a little dry on the sauce, & I was used to receiving some broccoli with orange chicken at previous Chinese establishments. Manchurian serves it instead with carrots and snow peas, which is OK just not expected. I wouldn't say that it added anything to the experience. My friend tried to order the shrimp egg rolls, but apparently they've been discontinued for months and yet they're still on the menu. The seaweed salad was decent. Overall I would simply say that the food is overpriced for what you get. The staff, on the other hand, was friendly and helpful. Better than the food lol.

Baltimore is really lacking in quality Chinese food. Manchurian Rice is typical Americanized versions of the usual dishes but they do know how to spice things up and they're not cheap with the condiments (I swear the have to threaten the people at DIng How to get a second mustard packet) Also while it's not the cheapest spot they do give very generous portions especially the lunch specials. As others have mentioned it's best to stick the the traditional dishes some of the Pad Thai and Korean entrees are off the mark. Still a lot cleaner than other Chinese carry-outs in the area and service has actually been getting faster in recent months.

I ordered from here today and the food was good. I got sesame chicken, crab rangoon, and wonton soup. The best thing about this place is that THEY DELIVER BEER AND WINE!!!!! (They're only sold individually, but I was happy to pay $3.99 for a mini bottle of chardonnay. The crab rangoon wasn't the best and there was no sauce with it, which is why I'm only giving 3 stars.

Seems like a great place for cheap, filling Americanized Chinese food. Prices are decent for the amount of food you get. Staff was friendly, but the food does take a little time. They have a second floor seating area, so its pretty good for large groups!

I've walked by this place on my way to work for a year and finally tried it last week. It wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't good, either. I got carryout for the Crab Wontons, Chicken Fried Rice, and General Tso's Chicken. The wontons were pretty okay, tasted quite old with how hard to bite into the crisp around the crab and cream cheese was. The General Tso's Chicken was nothing much more than mediocre, there's not much to say. Lastly, the fried rice actually wasn't bad. It was very good (even better cold, actually). And I was supposed to get a drink with my carryout, but the staff totally forgot about it. That day, I learned a valuable lesson of checking your bag carefully... Overall, I'm not really blown away by these guys. Maybe I'll come back again, no clue. They didn't really make me want to with their food.

As I said previously. I do think they have the best Chinese delivery service. Since my last review, I've had no complaints. Chinese...is Chinese so if you want it to be good don't be upset when you order it in Baltimore and it's just something to say you got for dinner. Overall, they do good work and thought they deserved an updated review since I've had no issues ordering from them or with their food since the "rush order"

Worst pad thai I've ever had. So bland and tasteless that even British people would complain about it. Kudos to the chef who created a menu when he/she had a stuffed up nose.

I'm guessing these guys read their Yelp reviews. The good has gotten better in the last few times I've been there and they have a good selection of specials for the lunch crowd. Also, I'd like to point out that the staff who works there during the lunch shift is always friendly and polite. This place is now a pretty good lunch option if you want something fast and reasonably cheap as long as you stick to the lunch specials.

We wanted to like it, believe me. We tried a few dishes, the garlic shrimp, the fried rice, and the single, worst teriyaki salmon I've ever had. Overpriced and disappointing.

I was walking to Whole Foods the other day to get some salad bar items for lunch, but it looked like it was going to start raining and I wasn't going to be able to make it so I stopped at Manchurian Rice Co. Immediately I wanted to walk out and I should have just scurried on over to Whole Foods only a block or so away, but I was really paranoid about getting caught in the rain. So I ordered kung pao chicken and stood awkwardly in the small space between the tables and the counter while waiting for my order. There were only about four tables in this area, but they were all occupied. I saw the sign for additional seating upstairs, but there was no need to venture up there since I would be leaving as soon as my order was complete. There was a guy waiting for his order to be picked up and after his was ready, I took his spot at the table he was occupying. The place was clean, but the seemed a little crowded for my liking. Upstairs is probably a different story. There was an Asian game show on the television, but the music was so loud you couldn't watch if you wanted to. Which is too bad because Asian game shows are hilarious even if you don't know what they are saying. My order was ready a few minutes later and I grabbed a couple napkins and a pair of chopsticks from the condiment stand and headed back to work just in time to beat the rain. As I got back to my office, I took out two containers: one with the kung pao chicken and a smaller one with white rice. The sauce in the chicken container had leaked through the container and into the bag all over the wrapped fortune cookie as well as the table, but that wasn't too big of a deal. The kung pao chicken was loaded with peanuts. Way too many, actually. It was ok, but I definitely have had better. And for the price I paid for this, I could have easily gotten a larger portion of kung pao chicken and a spring roll AND egg drop soup at my local chinese take out. Ahh, such is life at Harbor East. Why can't there just be cheap buffets around here so I can load up on food and go about my day?

This is a decent little place kind of out of the way of things. Empty on a Saturday just past noon, we decided a rice dish would be good as we were planning a big meal later that day. We tried the teriyaki tofu with fried rice. The food was good - the tofu was well cooked and the rice was pretty yummy. It wasn't amazing, but it was definitely good tofu, and it's actually quite often we run into underseasoned or too soft tofu.

To be fair, the food was far better then some of the reviews suggest, but the price did not meet the type of dining experience (practically fast food). I found the meal to hit on a more gourmet sort of spot when the place comes off as and should be more greasy, tasty goodness. I enjoyed my meal, but found the overall experience subpar. The interior reminded me of a dilapidated mall food court. Not pretty, not comfortable, far from inviting. If you're thinking date or business lunch, think again. Not the place. But if it's for yourself then it might be a good place for a quick bite.

Baltimore needs some good Asian fast food. Rice Co. is new, clean, and welcoming (a MXC dvd was playing). However the food is not good and overpriced. Had the shrimp pad thai, which did not taste anything like pad thai and also was $10.

I live in Harbor East and was incredibly excited at the prospect of having an Asian place in my neighborhood. I really wanted to like it - tried many dishes from the menu - but was disappointed each time. The dishes are very oily and not very flavorful. The first time I ordered the hot & sour soup, it was wonderful, but the following two times it was completely inedible - a greasy, bland broth - I ended up throwing it out! I haven't been back in months.

I recently read about this Asian fusion restaurant that will serve Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, and Chinese cuisine, including made-to-order stir-fry, fried rice, pad Thai, soup, Kung Pao chicken, and traditional desserts. When I went it was fairly busy, but the prices were reasonable. The portions are generous and I can't wait to get a chance to try other items on their menu.

Gross. Cheap Ingredients. Gross. I got the Vietnamese chicken salad and there was nothing Vietnamese about it. It was water lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber and nasty unseasoned, bland boiled chicken. Gross. My friend got the mongolian beef and couldn't finish it because it was so bad. Gross. I also got the spring rolls. Gross. There was hardly anything in them except nasty, gooey dough. Gross. Atmosphere is horrible and loud. Gross. Gross. Gross. Do not waste your time, money, breath, anything on this place. Gross.

I was fully prepared to be happy with average Chinese delivery, but this just tasted totally weird and was expensive for what it was. Just wasn't right. I wouldn't order from here again and wouldn't recommend it.

I ordered some food from Manchurian Rice with some friends. The food wasn't bad here but was a little different from what I was expecting. Normally, when you think Chinese food, you think greasy, somewhat unhealthy dishes. Well, Manchurian Rice seems to have taken those foods and make them a little more higher end. The General Tso's chicken wasn't deep fried like a typical Chinese carry out's chicken. The breading was thin and not crunchy at all. It also wasn't covered in the sticky goop that generally accompanies the dish. Unfortunately, it also lacked a lot of the flavor you get with General Tso's chicken. The chicken, which appeared to be all breast meat, was somewhat dry and very flavorless. It may have been salvageable if the sauce was sticky enough to cling to the chicken pieces....but it didn't. The portion size was good though. The Mongolian Beef, likewise, tasted cleaner and less greasier than your typical Mongolian Beef dish. The beef seemed leaner and more tough. However, it did have a lot more flavor compared to the tasteless General Tso's chicken. I did like how they have chili oil sauce if you want some extra spice.... but at least to me, it looked a lot more spicier than it really was. While I appreciate Manchurian Rice's attempt to make their dishes a little more high class, I think it ultimately fails because it just didn't taste that great. Other places like Pei Wei/P.F. Changs do a better job at creating a more classy version of Chinese take out, at least with the items I tried. But it wasn't a horrible experience and the food definitely tasted fresh... i'll probably give them another shot if I'm in the area. Interestingly, I think this place might be owned by the same people who own the Harbor East Delicatessen & Pizzeria next door because one of the workers (who seemed to be at least a manager, if not higher ranked) was wearing the pizzeria's uniform.

Awful! They just don't get it right. I have been forced to eat here over 10 times because new people get to the building and want to go to this place. They need to change chefs or something because they are very inconsistent. I have tried the fried rice, singapore noodles and pad thai *the biggest mistake) and they are all bland. They should not offered PAD THAI if they don't know what it is and how to cook it. Simply terrible.

It's fast food, but it's not. You go up to the counter to order, and they prepare your food as you wait for the table. You're given an empty cup and can help yourself to drinks at the soda fountain. There's a stand with chopsticks, chili sauce, and packets of soy for you to load up on. The tables are wooden, with spacious upstairs seating, simple but quite nice. Interestingly there are authentic canvas paintings of Asian themes hung about the place. It took about 10 min for our food to show up, and when it did, it came in fresh and hot. Interestingly it arrived in plastic containers with lids, so when you couldn't eat anymore, just snap on the lid and you're ready to go home with left overs. A great concept! The orange chicken was moist, and the Manchurian beef was flavorful and peppery. Veggies were cooked but still crisp, which is perfect. The rice was fresh and lightly spiced.

Ordered the kung pow chicken and it was swimming in oil. Didn't have much flavor, just tasted like the oil. The place is clean and cute and I had high expectations but I probably won't go back. It was also pretty pricy. Came to $10 for take out with no drink.

Great new chinese restaurant for a quick sit-in meal, carry-out, or delivery in the Harbor East neighborhood. I've been in Baltimore for seven years now and always felt that there weren't enough chinese food options..until now. Manchurian Rice definitely fits this niche and I will be back for more!

I don't know what kind of crack the rest of these Baltimorons are smoking but this place truly rocks! Extremely clean, really fast, cooked right then not the Panda junk you expect to get from a take out place. It's located right near the whole foods, in the middle of the super nice restaurant district in Baltimore. Which is small and sparsely inhabited. The Hot plates are truly HOT, I mean spicy. Which for me is Excellent! Everything tasted nice and their flavors were great. This is the FIRST Asian joint in Baltimore that has delivered and the first place that didn't look like they were doing something illegal in the back. Good, solid flavors are in the food. If you don't like flavorful oily goodness then go to WF's. If you're that kid from the movie Dutch before the end, keep walking to some bland white linen restaurant. Leave the good food for people with heart. If you have heart, meaning you like good food that isn't a gimmick, eat here liberally.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
