Delicious food. All the appetizers are vegetarian (if you ask them to leave the meat off the top of the ravioi) and all the entrees are meat-based, except for the veg plate which allows you to sample 5 appetizers. $10 for a meal that provided me with 2 lunches and I still have some left over. Good, fast service and a clean restaurant within walking distance of work downtown means I'll be back quite often.

Excellent food and excellent mgmt. Authentic taste. Had my son's birthday there and ordered salmon, chopan, chicken, kofta, malai and chicken shish kabob and every item was excellent ... Afghan ice cream is a must. Neat n clean ambiance..friendly staff
(5)Linna L.
Great place!!! I went with a friend for lunch. We ordered Aushak, chicken kabob and beef kabob. Food was very yummy. Only thing that was kinda disappointing is that the meal doesn't come with drink.
(5)Kelly J.
This place is very good. It's clean and attractive, and the kabobs are very good. The naan in particular is very good. Will definitely be back!
(5)Cherpumple F.
Okay Yelpster amigos, I know I've written a bunch of four-five stars recently, which may make you think of my reviews as just Pollyanna-all-the-time-five-stars. No, its just that Bmore is freakin awesome and we are getting a TON of new, great places! Come Maiwand Grill (not to be confused with Maiwand Kabob), blew our minds and expectations. The ambiance may not be great, but the food and service are phenomenal. Daily specials are great. This place is also cheap and affordable. And their bread....is like fluffy, crusty, chewy heaven. They even deliver!
(5)P L.
The potato samosa was crispy and cooked perfectly. The pale green yogurt type sauce it comes with was great!
(5)Winnie W.
I got the lamb curry special. It was very slow coming out but the lamb curry was delicious. Will definitely get it again!
(4)Ali W.
Beat the lunch rush, cause this place fills up quickly! You'll understand why after the first bites. Try the daily lunch special, but warning, it will make you want to return each day of the week to try everything! We had leftovers, took them to go, but ended up eating them while on the walk home after work... Not left over very long! Vegetarian options aren't extensive, but the sauces are exquisite! So is the pumpkin!!!
(4)Sue H.
Amazzingg food! Everything was very fresh and seasoned extremely well. You must try this!
(5)Jeffrey D.
One of the best places to eat in downtown if you are looking for quality food at a reasonable price. I'm quite picky and can't complain about anything. Even their daily specials are awesome. Monday's lamb curry is not to be missed. I almost didn't post bc I don't want this place to get too busy. Or change their portions, service, or level of cleanliness. Would give 6 stars if I could. They deserve it. Keep up the great work!!!
(5)Sarah R.
Food is usually good and fresh. Everyday there is a special menu item, so you cant get the same thing everyday.
(5)Hannah W.
Amazing, absolutely delicious. Had the Monday special: Lamb Curry with fragrant rice, mixed side salad, and fresh naan. Definitely stop in, you will not be disappointed!
(5)Janet C.
Went to eat here before the ballgame, just minutes from Camden Yards. We loved this place. Food was fresh, quick service! The food here was amazing, great flavor and portions were big. I highly recommend this place!
(5)Cynthia E.
I have been to Maiwand grill more times than I care to admit! The food is absolutely amazing. There are quite a few kabob type places in the area that are just so-so and I was sure this place was going to be the same. I was shocked by the quality and taste of the food. I have tried almost everything on the menu and have never been disappointed. All the meat is tender and juicy, my favorites so far are the chow pan(lamb chops), the Malai kabob (chicken marinated in sour cream and spices), and the Chapli kabob (almost like a spicy, amazing hamburger!). For the appitizers, the pumpkin kadu is fantastic. The portions are generous and the mix of favors is so different from anything else I have had in Baltimore. The staff has always been friendly and the decor is new and clean. I am so happy there is a fast, delicious place downtown and I hope they succeed. I will definitely be doing my part by coming here often!!
(5)Meredith D.
5 stars for the quality & value!! They were open during the recent big snowstorm and I walked there with my friends. We ate every bite of our big portion sizes, it was that good!!! Had pumpkin kudu and afghan tea also. Yummy !! You have to check this place out, you won't be disappointed.
(5)David S.
I heard a new Maiwand Kabob had opened up in downtown Baltimore under the new name Maiwand Grill. Let me say, it not only didn't disappoint, I actually think that's the best meal I have had at a Maiwand Restaurant. Great chicken kabobs, perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked. The service here was great, we walked in, got our food and everyone was very pleasant. I would highly recommend this to anyone. It will be worth your time!!
(5)Marci R.
Fantastic food with great service. Been here a few times and will be back many more times. I loved the lamb curry and the potato and pea curry. The meat is seasoned perfectly and they give you plenty of food. I highly recommend this place!
(5)Akbar M.
Great food. Great service. Friendly staff. I enjoyed my visit. I recommend the chicken salad. Delicious, but I would like more bread in the future though!
(5)Flevoland D.
Stupendous. Get everything, try everything, eat everything. Pumpkin, aushak (dumplings), lentils in particular.
(5)Christie B.
Service is show during dinner hour, some people waiting 45 minutes for food. But when the food arrives, it's pretty good. Whether or not it's authentic Afghan, I really don't care. The kabobs and lamb chops are good. They come with salad, rice and pita which hit the spot after a long day at work
(4)Ha L.
We've eaten here about 6 times since its opening and I can honestly say that they have been satisfying every time. Their hospitable and friendly, which only encourages me to continue going back. Our favorites have been the lamb chops or the lamb kabobs. Pumpkin side is also delicious! Foods made to order so they're hot and fresh even as takeout.
(5)John B.
Excellent food! I couldn't have been more satisfied. Do yourself a favor: don't waste time reading these reviews because they're almost all gonna tell you how awesome this place is. Just go there! You'll thank me later.
(5)Jonny N.
So freaking good. I've gotten the lamb curry a few times, and I just got the lamb chop special. The meat was a little fatty, but the seasoning made up for it. The hummus, the potato curry, the service, everything is great.
(5)Rudy S.
Was looking for a place to eat lunch and visit with a friend that recently moved to Balto near the Royal Farms Arena that would provide healthy options and a quiet atmosphere. This was the perfect choice. The food was delicious - kabobs, chicken salad and pastry appetizer were all freshly prepared and flavorful. The bread was remarkable! While you order from the counter, the food is brought to you and the tables are bussed by the staff. The dining room was nicely decorated, and on a Sunday afternoon, sadly too quiet. Try this place out and help them grow the business in their new location.
(4)Faisal K.
Great location and tasty afghan cuisine. Loved the baklawa after our meal. We were one of the first customers and were treated specially. Must try their lamb kabobs with bread.
(5)Bassam S.
Excellent food. I ordered the chicken tikka with the side of chickpeas. Great flavor and cooked just right. Would definitely visit again when I am in the city.
(5)Gary S.
Outstanding. First time here, won't be the last. The pumpkin Baku was amazing. Everything was, I've just never had that dish before. Great place to go before a hippodrome show, but leave ample time
(5)Andrea O.
I loved the food and the services! A friend and I went there right before closing. I am usually skeptical of new places specially when I go at the end of the day but the food was amazing and the people were incredibly nice. It's great to have more variety in the area and its great to support local businesses. Everyone should give it a try.
(5)Eric Z.
The lamb kabob was excellent. Very juicy and tender. The portion size was generous. The meat quality is really good.
(4)Mengqi J.
Out of my expectation, the Afgan food was awesome!!! Beef was a little bit hard to chew, but I love the appetizer green pea and potato curry. Nice!!!
(5)Ash T.
I can't remember the last time I wrote a review- it's been that long, over 5 years I believe. After going to Maiwand-Grill in downtown Baltimore, I felt a sense of duty to spread the word. 3 letters...OMG!!!! A good friend of mine went when they opened about 3 weeks ago and told me how wonderful it is. As all things go, I took it in good stride and figured I'd eventually get to it some day. Some day was yesterday and I will be back everyday till I have their cuisine pouring out my ears. I ordered the Thursday special which was the Do Piaza. Boneless chunks of Lamb with Onion, Green bell peppers, vinegar and spices. This meal came with Rice, side salad, naan bread and a chutney of sorts. I wasn't really expecting much when I placed the food on the table but the first whiff of the food triggered my salivary glands and I started drooling before I had a chance to open up the carry-out box. As I shoveled the food in my mouth- yes shoveled, I paused for a second to remind myself to slow down and enjoy the food. I have never wanted to get food into my system so quickly! Mind you I wasn't starving. It was just that good. The sauces were spiced to perfection the lamb was tender and succulent and the rice was simply amazing. I received (3) pieces of naan bread which quickly disappeared from my sight. The portions are amazing and all for a whooping $10!! Now when I talk about portion size I'm always one fore a good size. Don't give me a child portion! Maiwand Grill gave me a damn good portion! I even had a little left over! It was 1 degree outside when I went to get my food and as much as I love hibernating in the winter it made it worthwhile. Thanks You Maiwand-Grill for opening! To boot, the establishment was clean, atmosphere was pleasant and service was great.
(5)Chris F.
Being a regular Helmand customer, and previously having lived across the street from the excellent Maiwand Kabob in Columbia, I dig Afghani food. Maiwand Grill has the quality of Helmand with the casual nature of MK, but classier than MK but not as varied a menu as the Helmand. Quality casual. Pricier than most casual joints in the area, but worth it!
(5)Amanda S.
This place is amazing!!!! I love the ambiance, food, drinks, everything! I've eaten almost everything on the menu. You must have the kabuli rice!!! It's mouth watering. The chicken tikka kabob is to die for. I absolutely love this place. I was pacing around before it opened. Patiently waiting and once it opened I became a everyday eater. I have since left the area, but still come back around to visit this wonderful place. Bon appétit!
(5)Rabeea B.
Went there after work for the first time and absolutely loved the place. This will be my go to place from now on. Great food and great service, what else can you ask for...
(5)Gatien D.
Next to the Hippodrome, you can find a handful of nice places where you can grab some dinner before the entertainment begins. I've been to a few of them and this place stands out for the quality of the food, for the good prices and excellent vegetarian and non-vegetarian platters. Meat kebobs are tender and tasty, but the veggie platter, while not being particularly advertised, stands out as a perfect (and copious) combination of all the vegetarian starters that they propose. Tapas style or full platter, this place is a great option when you're short on time or if you are looking for authentic Afghani food. Very nice staff, relax atmosphere, excellent food. This one deserves a 5 stars.
(5)Ari K.
For the price, this is some of the best Afghan food I've ever had. My best friend is Afghan, so I was lucky enough to be the recipient of delicious homemade afghan food on a pretty regular basis, before moving from CA to MD. On my arrival, I was informed of two Afghan places to check out: Maiwand and Helmand. I've had both, and can honestly say that Maiwand is better food for the money. Want perfectly seasoned kabob with a delectable side of Aushak or Kadu Bourani? Look no further than Maiwand. Staff is very friendly and food comes out from the kitchen quickly. This is my go to stop for delicious Afghan food in the greater Baltimore Area, and even though it's not exactly like Modar Jaan's cooking in CA, it's pretty damn good.
(5)Anthony F.
I came here with a few friends while at an event in Baltimore. I've never really had Afghan food before, so I had no idea what to really expect. Staying on the safe side, I got myself a lamb kabob, and oh my goodness it was amazing. Easily the best lamb kabob I've ever had! It also came with some pita bread, a salad with some dressing that was sort of like tatziki sauce that comes in gyros, and some rice that was flavored with some seasonings (I think garam Masala, but please don't quote me on that) Overall, it was a fantastic experience and I'm definitely going to be coming back next year. Clean atmosphere and quick service.
(5)Jessica R.
I've never had Afghan food before but everything I had was delicious! My friend and I came here to grab dinner before heading to the Royal Farms Arena, which was a 5 min. walk away. Inside it was spacious and bright. It's a good spot to grab a casual lunch or dinner. Order your food at the counter and they bring it to your table. I ordered the Malai Chicken Kabob which was chunks of chicken marinated in sour cream butter sauce, with ginger, garlic and fresh coriander leaves. The chicken was mild in flavor, so if you're not really into spice then this would be a good choice. The chicken was moist and tasted great with that spicy green sauce. The kabob was also served with rice, salad, pita and grilled onions. The rice was particularly good. I think it had cinnamon in it and also came with raisins inside. And the portion was huge!

I pass by this place everyday and have never given it a chance..until today! I have been missing out! Maiwand Grill is very spacious and clean. I browsed the menu and ordered the special of the day, Chicken Curry. Then I told the cashier what table number I wanted and sat down in the corner eagerly awaiting my food. I knew the meal was going to be a winner when the waitress brought it out. The presentation was excellent (see photo). There was salad, rice with rasins, chicken curry and naan. Here is a run down of each item. +Rice - surprisingly delicious, had semi-sweet taste. Included rasins (not the ones your mom forced you to eat when you were a kid, these were different) +Salad - good chopped with tomatoes did not care for the dressing. Will ask for that on the side +Chicken Curry - full of flavor and very moist, just enough kick included a side of sauce +Naan - warm and fresh!! paired well with the whole meal, used it to clean up the curry. Service was great and the price is resonable. This is a welcomed addition to the area! No longer am I limited to Nandos and Panera. Get out of your comfort zone and try some real food!

Randomly looked for restaurants within walking distance from the hotel and came upon this place. There is a lot of dining space. Lots of booths and table top for 4. This place could easily be suitable for groups. You order at the counter and they bring your food to you. I was a little disappointed in them because I purposely chose the table with an empty plastic bottle left by a previous customer thinking that the employee would notice and clean the table. Unfortunately, they never cleaned it and the table had a few stains here and there. Despite this, i am still giving them, 3 stars (really 3.5), because of the food. I ordered lamb kebob and mango smoothie. I asked the employee if it was mango lassi and they were not sure. I assumed it would be mango lassi because of the type of food that they serve. I'm not sure where the owners are from but the food closely resembles food that I know of in NYC. The lamb was cooked medium. it was seasoned well and they gave enough pieces. The rice was good. One thing that I was not used to was the raisins. Its not bad. The salad was decent. It helped balance the dish but still felt like it was missing something. The bread was really crunchy. It should have been soft. They just let it cook too long. The bread should be more fluffy. The chutney sauce was good but watered down. The flavor was there however. Lastly, the mango lassi was better than I expected but the ratio between mango pulp and milk was off. They should add more pulp to bring out more of the mango flavor. Another thing to note was a fly had landed on me. Because of this i noticed that they do not have those fan blades by the door to try to keep the flies out. Just something for them to consider. Overall, despite the mixed review, I would still recommend this place and until I find another place that sells a better version of the mango lassi, this will be my go to place for now.
(3)Tanvi D.
I ordered the chicken salad. The chicken was well cooked - tender and juicy! The dressing was too much for me but it was delish none the less. The salad was fresh and came with soft flat bread on the side. The portions were huge and only for a reasonable rate of $10. Will definitely go there again.
(4)Jenny B.
I cannot tell you how happy I am that Maiwand Grill opened and replaced the old Salsaritas. I live about 2 minutes away, so I frequent Maiwand pretty often even though it just recently opened. Maiwand has terrific Afghani food - their lamb kebobs and curries are delicious and so filling. All of their entrees come with rice, yummy bread, and this mysterious but delicious green sauce. The last time I went there, I got the vegetable platter which I loved. It is a huge platter of eggplant, pumpkin, chickpea curry, rice, bread, and spinach. All of my friends love going to Maiwand Grill because the food is fantastic (and affordable!) and the service is on point. Looking forward to working my way down the rest of the menu - the baklava and cardamom ice cream are next on my list!
(5)Tyler B.
3rd time coming here for takeout, and it's consistently been a really good option. The food comes after a reasonable wait depending how busy they are, and is always as expected. Prices are reasonable, considering the portions and quality. Nothing about it blows you away, but it also has yet to disappoint.
(3)Andrew L.
Ok. The food is really good. Place is clean. Price super reasonable. Not fancy but it's not suppose to be. Like high end fast food. U order and they bring to u. Great though. No complaints. Had the veggie platter.
(4)Katharine T.
I'm a huge fan of this place. The lamb kebabs are phenomenal. There's nothing to say that others haven't said about it. Just come in and try them. Order extra bread if you're a carb person, it's delicious. One item of note: There are several places in the area with "Maiwand" in the name. Make sure you coordinate by address if you're meeting someone here.
(5)Gene L.
This place was great! I was definitely impressed by how nice the place looked on the inside even though it was just a order by the counter type of place. The food is absolutely delicious, and the prices are so reasonable. We got the kofta kabob and the lamb curry (it was the special of the day). Everything was flavored so well, and the bread was warm and soft. Huge quantity of food for the price. I love Afghan food, and will definitely come back the next time I'm back in Baltimore.
(5)Jenn L.
It's okay. Standard kebobs. Nothing too extraordinary.
(3)Adi B.
It's my first time here with my family. I am highly recommend with beast quality food. Nice clean place.
(5)Caity A.
Definitely a yum place with good prices, and really great portions. It's pretty much obligatory to get the pan-fried baby pumpkin appetizer (kadu); it really is delicious. I could eat a whole plate of that for dinner and be perfectly happy. But why would you want to when they also make incredible kabobs! We all ordered regular chicken kabobs, and they are both flavorful and cooked perfectly with a nice grill on the outside but nice and moist on the inside. The shallow rice is awesome here, and so is the chickpea curry. I've only been here once, but I can't wait to try some of the other items off the menu!
(5)Kristina H.
The food here is excellent. Try the specials that is served with rice, salad, pita....delicious. The decor is not fancy and you have to order you food up front so that it gives the impression of a fast food place. However the waitress brings the good to the table and it is so delicious that the very casual decor is unimportant. Definitely a good choice!
(5)Josh G.
I'd actually heard mixed reviews about this place from friends and though I'm always nearby, I hadn't gotten around to trying it. However, I was pleasantly surprised. This site has transformed nicely from a quick service Mexican place to a tastefully decorated casual Afghan restaurant. It's structured so that you order at the counter and then are brought your food. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Kebob which was flavorful and nicely presented with rice, salad, and warm bread. It was definitely filling and a good value. The food all seems to be made fresh, so despite the fact that this is a casual venue, you should expect maybe a 10-15 minute wait for my order. I would return and try some of the other entrees.
(4)Shar S.
Maiwand Grill hits not just a home run, but a grand slam every time I come, and I come here a lot. Their lamb kebab ($10.99) is perfectly spiced, succulent, tender, and served straight off the grill, their tandoori bread is piping hot and soft with just the right amount of elasticity, and their rotating daily specials ($8.99) are terrific -- my favorite is the Lamb Korma on Fridays. All entrees come with rice, 2 slices of tandoori bread, salad, and a small cup of yogurt sauce. Perhaps their most irresistible dish, however, is the pumpkin appetizer ($3.99), which features sweetened and pan-fried pumpkin topped with yogurt sauce and ground beef. It's actually better than the same version at the Helmand in nearby Mt. Vernon, which has remained a Baltimore dining institution for years. With its fast and casual dine-in atmosphere, Maiwand caters perfectly to the downtown lunch crowd and UMB students. And I think everyone knows it, as evidenced by the weekday lunch rush when empty seats are scarce and the line can be 10+ people long. Thankfully Maiwand's tremendous staff is very good at keeping the line moving, but it can be a full 15-20 minutes between the time you step in the door and when you receive your food. Calling in an order can be difficult too -- sometimes you'll just receive a persistent busy signal. Clearly, Maiwand Grill's business is just as hot as their bread fresh out of the tandoor! In summary, this is the best food option in the UMB area, rivaled by none. Service is friendly and outstanding, the menu offers a variety of delicious and affordable options, and the food is delicious, tastefully prepared, and relatively healthy. Every meal at Maiwand has wowed me and has me counting down the days until my next visit. The cat's out of the bag. Come here and try it for yourself...but just try to avoid the busy lunch hour if you can!
(5)Irene A.
WOW!! Is all I have to say. I'm really impressed by this place and the food. Inside is clean and calm They employees are nice and professional. I called in my order for pick up and it was ready within 15 min. The woman over the phone was also very professional and easy to talk to. I got the bolani, samoas, kofta kabob and rice pudding. My favorite of these was the kofta kabob. Very juicy, tender and filled with flavor. It comes with a side of rice which is delicious and a little sweet and a side of salad. I would absolutely get this again. And highly suggest it! The bolani is pretty heavy and slightly stuffed with the potatoes.. Could be stuffed a little more The samoas were good and something I might get again. The rice pudding is absolutely delicious and also filled with flavor. I highly suggest it! This is a great place and far exceeded my expectations.
(5)Brad F.
I ordered the lamb kabab plate and it was good. I also ordered as an appetizer the pumpkin with ground beef. Everything was good. The people are nice. You order up front and grab your own utensils. Saves on having to tip. Food was priced. It appears that a lot of afghani locals eat here which says something about the quality The lamb was juicy still although it could have been cooked a bit less but as long as it's not dry and gamey then I'm okay. If I lived or visited Baltimore often then I would go back. I recommend this place.
(4)Tunaidi A.
Tasty, inexpensive, quick, and large portions. What else can you ask for? Maiwand Grill's got it all. You think you're ordering meat. But while the meat is certainly good, you'll also get delicious rice, salad, and tandoori bread along with that.
(4)T S.
Afghan Cuisine delicious enough to make Bin Laden drop his rocket launcher and say "maybe I was wrong about America" Seriously though the shrimp is jumbo and seasoned perfectly, the lamb is tender and the rice and bread with chutney sauce is fresh. I highly recommend paying them a visit if you're looking for something different.
(5)Jacob R.
The food here is OUTSTANDING!!!! If you're downtown, for lunch or dinner, you will NOT be disappointed with ANY of the food, or the portions! Do yourself a favor, if your downtown, "TREAT YOURSELF, DON'T CHEAT YOURSELF!". Per me, Jacob
(5)Casey S.
They kabobs here are fresh and made to order. The platters come with salad and some pita which is also really fresh and yummy. I have eaten at this chain before but honestly this one had great service and a really nice seating area. I will most definitely be a frequent visitor here.
(5)Dawn R.
My friend and I stopped in one evening for what we thought was going to be a quick bite before a show at the Hippodrome across the street. The aromas when we walked in were enticing, so we were quite excited to try a new place. Prices looked very reasonable, and I will say that you get a LOT of food for the price. When we walked in, I noticed numbers on each of the tables. We walked up to the counter to place our order, were told to sit at table # 14, got our drinks and walked over to wait. And wait. And wait. And wait.........yeah, it took a while. And that, quite frankly, is the only reason they didn't get more stars. We waited over 20 minutes to get our food. If this were a nice sit-down restaurant, that might be acceptable, especially if we had some appetizers to start out. But when you have to walk up to order at the counter, the expectation is that the food will be out in a reasonable amount of time. If not, you should be told that it will be a while. The young lady working the register had a lovely smile, but offered no help with questions about the menu. So if they can speed up the process and be a little more informative, focus a little more on customer service, they'll definitely go up in my rankings. And it's definitely worth another try the next time I'm going to a show.
(3)Holley L.
Stopped in for dinner while in Baltimore for a work trip. Great decor, very clean and spacious. You order at the front and they bring your food to your table. I had the lamb kebob and my friend tried the chicken kebob. The lamb was delicious. You could tell it just came off the grill and had crispy charbroiled edges. This entree came with a salad, rice, bread, and a cucumber dill dipping sauce. The portions were very generous and everything was extremely tasty and fresh. The bread was definitely the highlight of the meal. This restaurant definitely deserves several repeat visits.
(5)Annabelle L.
Got the daily special of lamb curry here with a friend on Monday. We picked up the food which came really quickly. In the car on the way home, we were struck by how delicious it smelled!! There was plenty of food, worth at least two meals. Although there was a bit more rice and not as much lamb as I around have liked, the food itself was delicious. Warm, hearty, full of spices. It came with a naan-like bread and a spicy yogurt sauce that was delicious mixed into the rice. All and all super tasty and the daily specials are a great deal!!
(4)Lina J.
My friends and I really enjoyed Maiwand! I got the Friday special - a potato and lamb type of curry. (There's a special for each day of the week) It comes with naan bread and rice which I thought were great. My friends got a variety of different things from kebab to just a few appetizers. If you're not in the mood for an entree and want to sample different things, I think two appetizers could actually be pretty filling. The interior was nice and the service was friendly. I think this is a great place for a lunch meeting or something along those lines. Although a little pricier than I would like for lunch, I'm sure I will stop by again!
(5)Ma-e M.
Aghfan food, are you ag fan of it? Try it and see if you like at Maiwand Grill. The restaurant is clean and I like its food like humus, wrap, beef kabob.
(3)C T.
Outstanding Afghan food. Authentic and expertly prepared. Large pieces of meat. Succulent and juicy. The cinnamon rice is a very pleasant surprise. I recommend this eatery whole heatedly.
(5)Helen C.
This is now my favorite restaurant near UMaryland's campus. I had their lamb and chicken combo which was a LOT of food! The meats were tender and had the perfect combination of spices. It came with a basic salad, rice cooked with raisins, carrots, and spices, and two pieces of pita bread. You order at the register and then sit down - a waiter brings you the food. The seating is really nice and it's like a real restaurant, despite ordering the food at the counter. I will be back here for some baklava!
(5)Xobe A.
I took the risk of ordering a "chapali kebab", which in general is not easy to make then a regular bbq. It was not only well served but had distinct and gret taste. At this menu price and quality, I found my favorite afghan place.
(5)M K.
I came here with a friend for a quick lunch yesterday. The place is new, and clean. The staff was overall pretty friendly. They have daily specials here for $9.99- mostly a curry of some sort with veggies, rice, and bread on the side. My friend ordered the beef kabob and I ordered the lamb kabob. The meat was very deliciously done. Very juicy with tons of flavor. The salad wasn't all that fresh, but the rice (Afghan style with raisins) was sweet and flavorful and the bead was well toasted. All platter generally range from $9-12. A great place to stop by for a quick lunch! Would highly recommend it.

Let me start off by saying this is a fast casual restaurant close to the theatre, has great decor, well maintained, and air conditioned. Everything we tried was pretty tasty, the naan served before meals is warm and addicting. I ordered the salmon and it was seasoned great not to mention the portions were huge for very good prices. The owner came up to our table before we left to make sure everything was okay, he was very friendly and when he found out I had yelp he offered us a rice pudding to try on the house. If I lived in the area it would be my go to spot!

Since I dined at Maiwand I've dreamed about Afgani food! I've even wished there was a magical food fairy to pick up Afgani kabobs in Baltimore and deliver them to me in the suburbs of Philadelphia! Dinner here was absolutely great! I ordered beef kabobs, which came with rice and a salad. Sadly, very sadly, I can't eat gluten, but the pita bread looked and smelled so wonderful. For a minute I considered eating it regardless of knowing the suffering it would cause! My friend ordered chicken kabobs and they were tender and had lots of flavor. If I lived closer to Maiwand Grill I would eat there a minimum of once a week.

Was extremely disappointed, as part of a visit to Baltimore , my family ordered dinner from the restaurant , it was suppose to be a special menu, what was delivered was not the correct order, and the driver did not offer to fix the issue. The family was left hungry due since not enough food was delivered and the restaurant was not flexible in fixing the issue

Best restaurant in Baltimore! Being part Turkish, I have a high bar for what passes for good middle eastern food. This food is oustanding, a delicious blend of spices, even the rice had a wonderful, subtle flavor.

I had never heard of an Afghan restaurant, but figured I would give it a try. In the almost two weeks we were in Baltimore, I have eaten here EIGHT TIMES. I have become a bonafide fan! Likewise, my buddy (also on tour with me) was rather dubious when I first told him about this place. He has now been here six times. The food is absolutely delicious, everything is well-seasoned and tastes remarkable. Price per plate ranges from ~$9.00 to ~$13.00, but the portions make those prices a steal! Also, the two gentlemen running the place are always friendly -- (even inquiring about my absence when I was out for surgery). Bookmark this place so you remember to give it a try!

I must first say I have only tried the chicken tikka kabob, but it was outstanding in every way. The little things are what separate a good place from a great place. For the price of $9.99, I had nothing short of a 5-star experience. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and grilled, it came with some onion and a classic char of fire. The rice was traditionally seasoned with raisins, carrots and I believe(?) some slivers of dates. But it also came with a small salad that was very fresh, nicely dressed, and just a great counterbalance to the spice of the tikka. But wait, there was also a 10 inch piece of fresh tandoori roti/naan, too. And some fresh yogurt as a side. For the price and the quality of what you get, it's nothing short of outstanding. I've paid more from a D.C. lunch truck and it wasn't as good. Well done!

I've never had Afghan food before this, but I do like Greek/Mediterranean/Lebanese and I found this to be similar. I always order the chicken kabobs, and they are cooked perfectly. I like the sweet rice that comes on the side (not sure what spices are in it, but maybe cinnamon?) but the salad is kind of meh. And they always give you a large piece of flat bread too, which I usually can't finish. There is lots of space inside to sit, but the place usually feels kind of empty. I typically call ahead and pick up my food to go. They are pretty quick and it's a large portion. I definitely want to try some of the other entrees!

Quick post for now and will edit later. Went here for a quick dinner before a performance at Hippodrome. The service was quick, food was cooked and seasoned to perfection, and the staff was really kind. The decor is casual and pleasantly inviting. Am definitely coming back here again!

This was my first time here; I ordered the beef and chicken combo. The meats was seasoned very well, the rice and the salad was good. I love how the bread was homemade (it seems that way). The inside was very spacious to my surprise, the presentation was amazing. The wait was not long at all, it was fairly quick when everything is being made to order.

I just got to baltimore and this is the first place I tried...needless to say it did not disappoint! I had the kofta kebab and my friend had the chicken wrap both were excellent!! The rice I chose was the afghan style rice with raisins, which in my opinion is far better than the normal rice Highly recommend this place and I will definitely be back

My friends and I decided to try this new place out near school, and we loved it. The food is amazing! Definitely try the chicken malai, chick peas, and mango shake. Everyone here is super friendly and helpful. Excellent service. Come hungry, and leave very very satisfied!

Ive been to this restaurant four times and i actually came twice in 8 hours! Yes, its that good! Besides the delicious and quality food, the customer service is superb. The portions are very generous. I am stuffed every time. I highly recommend this place to anyone who likes middle eastern food. And if you havent had it this would be a great first time! Excellent service, excellent food guaranteed!!

Excellent food. Excellent quality. Fantastic service. Highly recommend. Very authentic seasoning and presentation.

Just okay. Went here with a friend from work at lunch and it was pretty okay. Nothing great and I feel it wasn't really a great deal for the price. My friend had a vegetarian dish and he was not happy with the purchase. I liked the special but again not really planning on going back.

Food is really good at least have dinner there 3 times a week. Service is really good and promper love it

Very friendly service and delicious food for a reasonable price. I tried the malai chicken kabob which had a nice spicy, ginger cilantro based marinade. Meals come with naan, rice, salad and the green sauce. However the spinach appetizer stole the show for my boyfriend and I. Wasn't expecting much but it was AMAZING! Well seasoned, creamy and topped with lentils. Perfect to scoop up with naan. I will definitely get that again. It was a nice place to grab dinner before Wicked at the hippodrome. My main complaint was the meat was way too salty for my taste. If they reduced the salt I would give this place 5 stars.

I having a convention here in Inner Habor and my hotel resturants leave allot to be desired but its hard to find time to go out for either dinner or lunch. After two days at the hotel I had to do something... I pulled out Yelp and found this resturant about 1/2 mile away. Free appetizer from reporting in on Yelp too! I get there and it is sort of a causual sit down place..you order at the front and pay and then sit down and they bring it out to you. The decore is fairly nice ...not run down at all but not too fancy either. (not a whole lot of ethic feel to the place either though) I ordered the daily special (Chicken Curry) and Lamb Kabobs. I also ordered my free appetizer and a soad. All this came out under $30 dollars! That is a steal anywhere but especially Inner Harbor. I got the egg plant starter and it was pretty good. Not great but good. Next I tried the Lamb Kabob. Some of it was just a tad over cooked thus a little dry but excellent flavor of grilling over all. I give this 8.5. The rice was very good too.... Typical middle eastern rice with raisins and look to be basmati or jasmine rice. Nice little salad as well. Then I tried the Chicken curry... I have to tell you I am not a big fan. It was a little oily for my tastes and fairly bland. Not someting i think of when I think middle eastern food. So for value I give this a 9.5. Taste I would average out and give it a 7.5. Service was also very good...would rate that a 8 as well. They did come over and ask how I was doing but ..since this is an order up front and pay resturant no coming ot ask me about desert or another drink (which canned soda (not fountain) is your only choice. So for me this was a soild 8. As with all resturants you need to try a few items till you find what you like. I would for sure have the Lamb again...and I look forward to coming back.

*Note: this place is not to be confused with Maiwand Kabob that recently opened next to Uncle Lee's on South St.* Stopped by here and snagged some take out. Overall: Fresh Afghan cuisine that is reasonably priced, nicely executed and seasoned to perfection. Appetizer: We tried the Veggie Platter (which is actually an entree). It came with small servings of all of their veggies, including: spinach; pumpkin; chickpeas; eggplant, etc. The veggies were tender, but not overcooked or mushy. They each shined on their own yet complimented each other nicely. I particularly enjoyed the chickpeas, eggplant and pumpkin. Definitely recommend. Entree: We also ordered and shared the lamb kebab entree and the Sunday special (curried chicken). Both were delicious; however, the lamb was especially memorable and perfectly spiced. Bottom Line: The interior of Maiwand Grill is certainly not as fancy as the Helmund, but everything is executed just as, if not, better than the Helmund. And you can't beat the price.

Can't go wrong here. Portion sizes are good and the food is not dry at all. Prices aren't expensive for what you're getting ! I like this place, good thing I found it

Stopped in for carryout. They were out of the first two items I wanted to order. One was the daily special, the other was an appetizer. As it was only 6p on a Monday night I was a bit surprised and disappointed when my first two choices were not available. The meat was a tad salty and fatty, but flavorful nonetheless. The rice was automatic and perfect. Service was prompt and friendly, and the place is clean & modern inside.

Best lunch option near the hospital. The serving sizes are large and the food is fresh. I love the cucumber yogurt sauce they give you. My favorite item on the menu is the veggie platter. This place offers awesome variety for both vegetarians and meat eaters.

Wow! This restaurant is really really good. The service was great (I got my food within 10 minutes of ordering it)! The cashier was also extremely nice. As far as the food is concerned, it was AMAZING! Hot, fresh, and delicious!

The appetizers and entrees come with naan bread that are the best I've ever had. They are piping hot, soft on the inside, and smell good enough to make your stomach rumble. The spinach and eggplant appetizers are great, as is the lamb kabob. I will definitely be back!
(5)Chris X.
Chicken tikka kabob is my favorite! Checked in with free appetizer, the food volume is huge with a good price and excellent flavor!!!

I've done takeout from this place many times, and the food is always awesome! The flavors are so unique and the food tastes really fresh. I'm a big fan of the lamb! Tonight we did the chicken curry(comes with raisin rice and green salad), lamb kabob(same sides), spinach app(think creamed spinach) and the rice pudding for dessert. The rice pudding was awesome! Cool, refreshing and almost citrusy.

Very good food. Plates look and taste delicious. Friendly staff. Very clean. Like that we order and pay upfront so we can have privacy. I have been there twice and would most likely visit again and definitely recommend to friends. The grilled chicken salad was really good.

Great food!!! First time trying afghan cuisine and I was pleasantly surprised by how great the food was... Will definitely be going back soon.

Excellent as always. Solid prices for decent portions. Chicken seekh kebab was tasty.

This place honestly deserves 3 stars but I come here often so I don't wanna get beat up. It's a good quick easy spot to get some solid middle eastern/afghan cuisine. However, if anyone has had good afghan food they will know that this place is just an average kabob spot, but regardless I will continue to come here until a better place opens up.

The first time I ate here I was blown away. The quality and freshness of the ingredients is outstanding. Every dish I've tried has been excellent. Furthermore, the presentation of each dish is carefully constructed and looks vibrant. The staff is super friendly and the facility is very clean and welcoming. Highly recommended!

First time here and was really impressed. Place was clean and service at order desk was good. Ordered a kabob combo plate that rocked. Good amount of stuff on the plate. Perfect place. Got real busy like at lunch. I'll definitely be back.

Fantastic food, friendly staff, clean relaxing interior. Food is fresh and cooked either the same day or right to order. Chicken salad is personally my favorite, but other dishes are tasty as well. Daily curry specials will also not disappoint. Overall, I'd say it's one of, if not the best, food location around this area.

I come here often when I'm working in Baltimore and I am so happy they opened up. I have tried a lot of different items on the menu, and everything I have had was delicious in it's own way. The place has such a relaxed atmosphere that just adds to the appreciation of the food. The service is fairly fast and for $12 you walk out happily full. I hope to see this place thrive.

Stopped in for a dinner after Hippodrome show and food was perfect and price was even better. Great quality food for a cafe style environment. Would definately come back again.
