Listen up Philly people!! Whoever said 'moving to a new city alone is fun' lied. It's ok, you can stop pretending... I've been living and working in Baltimore for about four weeks now and, overall, it is not fun. There are moments, lessons, trips and even full days (occasionally) that are fun, yes. But on a scale of *Fun* to *Not Fun*, moving to a new city alone falls mostly on the Not Fun side. But then there are days like today. Today, I was in a real funk--feeling all sorts of homesick and lonely on my day off (shout out to my awesome Jew friends.) So I decided to check out a bar that is known as the Philadelphia Bar of Baltimore to watch tonight's first Eagles game. As I walked to the bar in my one Eagles shirt, I was a little teary thinking of all my friends and fam back in PA watching the game together and enjoying fun festivities. I expected to arrive at the bar and meet a few Baltimore townies and meet some fellow Eagles fans. But what I got was a mob scene of people in eagles gear who welcomed me with open arms as I stepped lonely in the bar. I spent my evening drinking beer, eating a relatively authentic cheesesteak, and making a handful of friends who I expect I'll see every week :) Tonight I wasn't in a new city alone. I was home. Go to MaGerks.

The bar scene in Federal Hill is a little crazy. There are so many different bars within a four block radius, how do you pick which one to watch the game at? If you're an Ohio State fan or an Eagles fan, you'll probably feel right at home at MaGerk's. But if you're just looking for some bar food and a beer, MaGerk's is worth a visit. One of my friends loves Onion Rings and orders them almost every chance she gets. This particular evening at MaGerk's was no exception. The onion rings came with a side of chipotle sauce which was delicious. My friends and I also shared an order of the Tater Tots. They came with a side of cheese and hot sauce. These were good, but nothing particular special. The next thing we ordered were the Eagle Wings. Compared to other wings I've had in Federal Hill, these were possibly the worst. They came out dry and could use some more sauce. Next time I'm in MaGerk's I will skip ordering the wings. I heard that MaGerk's was known for their cheesesteaks so my friends and I took advantage of two items on their menu. The first item we tried was the Buffalo Chicken Cheesesteak Eggrolls. These were awesome, we ordered them with medium heat and they were delicious. They weren't too fried and stuffed with plenty of buffalo chicken, onions and cheese inside. We also ordered the Buffalo Chicken Cheesesteak. This was very similar to the eggroll unsurprisingly. But it was also delicious, and massive. When you order the buffalo chicken cheesesteak, you are given the option to choose mild, medium or hot for spiciness which will ensure that your cheesteak is as spicy as you'd like it. Next time I'm at MaGerk's for an OSU game or just some great bar food, I will without a doubt be ordering a cheesesteak.

I have yet to find a cheesesteak in Philly as good as the ones at Magerks. I love the egg rolls, sushi and chicken fingers too. There's always a Deep Eddy's special running.

Stopped by for a little snackie... sweet potato fries shared with a friend is always a good idea! The menu seems to have a decent variety. It looks like they're known for their subs/cheesesteaks, so I'll have to check them out another time. We came on a weeknight and sat at the bar, and it seemed to be a good kind of busy- not too crowded, plenty of room, but definitely filled with customers. There were 50 cent wings from 7-10 PM but we didn't try any of those. Gotta save something for next time!

Came with a few friends to take advantage of the $4.50 cheesesteak special on Thursdays, and also enjoyed the $2.50 domestic bottles. Food service was a little on the slow side, but the sandwiches were good and the drinks were handled quickly. Would definitely come back for a game or another night of cheesesteaks!

Came back here a few weeks ago with some out of town friends to nurse a hangover. It was a beautiful day, so sitting at the bar with all the windows and doors wide open was ever so pleasant. Our bartender was fantastic. Very friendly and chatty, full of good suggestions and stories. She recommended the chicken cheesesteak with American cheese and she was not wrong. My entire life I've been eating cheesesteaks wrong, i.e. with provolone. Boy was I missing out. This cheesesteak was amazing. Toasty roll with soft insides, perfectly moist, thin sliced chicken, topped with ooey gooey American cheese that all melded together perfectly. I don't even remember if the fries or onion rings were good, this sub was amazing. I have cheesesteak cravings regularly now. I had low expectations of this place from paint night and late night bar hopping, but don't miss these cheesesteaks. Holy cow.

Solid food, good beer specials... Too bad there were numerous drunk jackasses ruining the experience being loud and stumbling into our table.

While visiting a friend we stopped in here for a drink and some grub. The Gyros were really good. We also ordered the Pretzel with cheese and crab dip and it was awesome. I definitely recommend it. The staff was also very friendly.

This review is only for a cheesesteak sub and the service I got. Went in on a lazy Saturday afternoon and my server was nice and pretty attentive. Overall, I was pleased. The sub on the other hand was nothing special at all except for the roll. Now, the roll was very fresh and had great texture. The rest of the sub was very lacking in flavor and wasn't very hot at all when I got it. At $8.50, even if Federal Hill, it was also overpriced. After all the rave reviews I was very disappointed. I won't be going back.

Cheesesteaks! Went here to watch the game. I was hesitant to order food because they were so busy. Wings were good. Drinks were decent and the cheese steak was like a real deal Philly hoagie. I will be returning on a night with specials. They have a different special daily.

I live in Brooklyn, but I have friends who live in the Baltimore Federal Hill area. They just love the food at Magerks Pub. So when my friend had a baby, I wanted to order a gift certificate from the Pub to give to my friend. The management was super helpful in arranging this. This establishment is just one more reason why small businesses are the best!! The customer service here was fantastic - they set a high bar for their competition.

I had the philly cheese steak, which comes with a bag of chips and not fries. Nothing special but the atmosphere was great, staff was friendly.

It's your typical Fed Hill-esque sports bar. Came after the O's game and it was hoping. They had food and drink specials, including half off burgers. However, they messed up my order and forgot to put avocado on my hamburger, which was a bummer. We also got the crab pretzel. It was decadent and an experience, but I probably wouldn't bother to get it again, as it wasn't that memorable. The beer and food is cheap though. It was also a nice touch that they had a lot of windows open since the weather was really nice! The music though was a bit too loud, particularly for a Sunday afternoon. I don't live near Fed Hill, and I probably trek here just for this bar, but if I'm in the area and in need of a place to watch sports or drink on the cheap, I suppose I might return.

Magerks is a solid four stars. I can never remember how to spell it when I tell my friends to look up directions. I love the bar with the tv screens right there. It's always fun meeting friends during the week when it's not crowded and you and your friends make it a good time. It can get pretty crazy and crowded on the weekends and harder to get a drink or a good spot. I've never had their food but beers on tap are good :-)

Maybe I'm biased but being an Eagles and Ohio State Fan, this place is now my go-to sports bar in Baltimore. Definitely appreciate the homage to all the cheesesteak places in Philly (Jim's, Pat's, Geno's, etc.). That being said, the cheesesteaks at Magerk's are nothing to sniff at though. Decided to get the cheesesteak hoagie, which is different than my usual whiz wit, but had heard good things about the hoagie. Definitely meaty, and the bread has the right chew and toasted feel. Comes with Utz chips, so we also got an order of fries with it as well. Reasonably priced, and delicious. Pretty good selection of beers, and they also do have other food specials depending on the day (1/2 price burgers on Sunday), as well as bucket of beer specials. Gotta love that. My one qualm is how there are still bits of Ravens paraphernalia around the bar. C'mon son. Ravens can have the other thousand bars in the city for that. Let us have this one. Make sure you get here early on gameday, because even though there is a large downstairs and upstairs space, it gets packed pretty quickly. I was surprised at how many Eagles fans were in the area, but am definitely not one to complain.

Really great spot for cheap and hearty Philly cheesesteaks. Discovered this place one Friday afternoon before heading to the Orioles game. Love the atmosphere, food, and drinks. That Friday I went there were $1.75 draft beers. That is a steal for a "poor" college student like myself. I will definitely be back!

Just tried calling several times to order food and there was no answer. There was no way to leave a message either. What kind of bar isn't answering the phone during Monday night football?

First off I didn't know this was an "Eagles" bar... Coming from a Cowboys fan, I won't let that stop me from giving this place 5 full stars! I had my birthday party here last Saturday and they were more than accommodating. They cut off the entire lower bar for my shindig for 3 hours. The food was amazing! The Cheese Steaks went so fast I had to order another tray, Wings were delicious and the Crab pretzels were scrumptious! Sarah, Matt and Joe took care of my party well after they had to open up the bar to other customers. Thanks so much and we will definitely be back!!! Oh and by the way! No minimum to rent the space for a party. All they ask is that you order food in advance. That was easy and even better the food was hot and ready when my friends starting coming in.

I am going to base this review off of their cheesesteak solely, the ambiance in on itself if you are in your early 20's and you like extremely loud music and bud light this will likely be a good place for you. I for one i crossed that bridge a long time ago, any how on a Sunday at 6:30 the place seemed like they had been partying all night long. I ordered my cheeseteaks to go because a) frankly the last thing i want to deal with is loud music and drunkeness on a sunday night and b) just eyeballing the place i didnt know were i would sit and carry on a decent conversation. Cheesesteaks were solid, they indeed did homage to their philly brethren and i have had a bunch of sandwiches from a lot of Philly places, needless to say i have found my spot when craving cheeseteaks in baltimore, and not wait till i go to Philly or a friend is coming to town.

I took my boyfriend here for bday drinks. I thought it was just a regular sports bar. But I was wrong. The food was really good. We were here on a Wednesday night for wing night. The wings were really good, and of course the price was excellent. And I also had the crab pretzel. I am a very picky eater, but it was very filling and had a good amount of crabmeat. My friend got the cheesesteak, which he raves about. On Thursdays they are $4. But the prices are pretty reasonable. I will definitely come here again. We walked straight to the bar and did not have to wait for a Long time. I love they have the 7-10 happy hour too. Service was excellent and fast.

Super neat place in the Federal Hill District. Great place to go and have fun and have some cocktails and watch the games. Had the CheeseSteak and that was very good. Overall a fun place and would go again.

I am a huge Magerk's fan. I have been here countless times....both that I remember and have not recollection of...oops, me. However, this is a great laid back sports bar. The staff is pretty friendly and remembers you, which I think is pretty impressive. I love their cheese steaks and bar food but they also offer sushi and wraps for a healthier option. My only gripe...it takes a long time to get a drink. Which is frustrating but worth for the overall experience

I was really disappointed in this place. It was my first time and I was really excited once I saw menu and heard the specials. I ordered a cheesesteak and it took so long that it came AFTER we asked for the bill. We had waited so long and two other tables that ordered after us got their cheesesteaks. The excuse of "the kitchen is slammed" didn't work anymore, since I was looking at 3 cheesesteaks that came out before mine. The moral of the story is Philly food should stay in Philly. Lesson learned. I won't be going back anytime soon. Too many better choices around here.

I enjoyed the laid back atmosphere. BF had the cheesesteak, but he said it wasn't greasy enough for him...go figure. The meat looked a little dry but the sandwich as a whole looked good to me. And for half price You really can't go wrong in my opinion. I had the veggie burger and it was by far one of the best veggie burgers I have had. Waiter was cool and ESPN/ sports were on...I'd go back but BF wasn't impressed.

I used to hang out at this location when it was tio locos, till it closed in the mid 90's. so I found myself with three kids in tow, we left cross street market with some cake and sweets, figured we'd find a nice bench where they could enjoy the nice weather and eat the sweets. but a clean park bench in baltimore... what was I thinking. so we gave magerk's a try, $3 guinness pints and all. they suggested we may enjoy the courtyard and it was exactly what we were looking for. the kids enjoyed the sweets, they didn't mind that we brought food in. and we had a safe, clean, quiet place to enjoy the sun. so we went back the next week and tried their food. we were not disappointed. the veggie burger was great and HUGE (two patties). and they philly cheese steak... was freakin awesome! #1 son enjoyed sushi... I'm happy about magerk's and I'll return some day.

Went around 11 on sunday, first people to be seated and waited on. Quickly ordered our cheesesteak, crab dip and chicken ceasar salad and proceeded to wait an hour for each item to come out seperately about 10 minutes apart while other tables were served their food which was ordered after us almost immediately. Crab dip was served at a ridiculous temp but had a great gooey cheesy flavor, salad had rotten leaves and bland grilled chicken and the cheesesteak was decent. Average beer list.

Went here for lunch and a few beers before the ravens game. What a super spot to go to. They had a great selection of beers on tap, and their Philly cheesesteak egg rolls were perfect. My date got the Philly cheesesteak sandwich with wiz, and said it was perfect. Next time we have ravens tickets, this is where we will be.

best cheesesteak i've ever had. just hate the atmosphere.. lots of screaming and drunk people being annoying. try to avoid this place during football season. SO packed you can't get a seat and often the waitresses will forget about you cuz they are so busy at the bar. my suggestion is order the cheesesteaks over the phone and go pick them up and eat them in the comfort of your own home. they are THAT good.

Bartenders will purposely tell you the non specials and food specials that will not be honored. Deceitful and dishonest. Unfortunate at best. Why do business that way?

I've had some great times at this bar. It's usually loud, crowded, and both the upstairs and downstairs are packed but this time I went it was like a ghost town with it being the week after the Christmas holiday. There was one bartender who was nice and obviously not busy so it was a breeze ordering drinks. We stayed for about an hour and a half. It's been awhile since I've eaten there but in the past it's just been bar food. I like the upstairs best and the small outdoor area is nice for getting some air when it gets muggy and overcrowded. Service is usually good I've never had a problem. There is usually a line for the women's bathrooms (there are 2 one near the patio and one oddly placed in the hallway by the door). This is a good place for happy hour drinks or late night and people are always randomly dancing since they have a jukebox. Will be back next time I'm home in MD.

I have been searching for a cheesesteak that matches those I enjoyed 40 years ago! My husband and daughter have been on my quest trying to assist. It was not until we went to MaGerk's yesterday where I finally found one that exceeded, yes exceeded, what I have been searching for! The meat and onions were so tasty and juicy, bread was perfect, soft, but a bit crispy, and although historically I've been a fan of provolone and not cheese wiz, I had both on it and it blew my flip flops right off my feet! Great pub feel too, as we sat at a window table where the big old windows were open and swung out onto the sidewalk. Thank you for helping to achieve a goal that is seriously overdue! We came from Virginia for this experience, and will certainly be back when we can. However, we are Redskins fans, so we might have to time our Fall visits just so!

The Whiz cheesesteak was delicious, but the consistency of the meat was waaaay to mulched up, kinda reminded me of those doggy meals in cans. But it was really good. Dont sit in the back, the mosquitos are outta control. Service was great, music was good and its def and local spot.

Seeing as how I'm approaching 40, the ambiance is something I'd have been more into about a decade ago. That said, I had no problem enjoying a nice authentic steak sandwich. The 9th and Passyunk with onions added would give many whiz wit's in the Philly area a run for their money.

I hate giving bad reviews, but Magerk's earned this one. I had heard such good things too... but I am not a patient person, and when it takes over an hour to get a couple drinks and burgers, I don't leave as a very happy customer. It took 20 minutes and several attempts to get a server's attention before we were helped. ...it then took another 10 minutes to get a rum & diet and they forgot about my SO's beer, until they finally thought, 20 minutes later, to tell us that particular keg was out. 20 minutes after that, we got our food. Crab dip, chicken cheesesteak, and burger. All were over-salted and had sat under a heater for so long that everything had that "heater film" on it. It then took several tries and another 15 minutes to get someone's attention to get our check. Lots of things in life are worth waiting for... Magerk's food and service is not on that list.

Not only did Magerk's have great beers on tap and a friendly bartender, but they opened early for us! Believe it or not, it's hard to find a bar open at 10am. After the Baltimore 5K, friends and I were looking for a place to have a celebratory beer. We tried the door to Magerk's, found it open, walked in and had a seat at the bar. The bartender was still setting up and they weren't officially open, but got the cash register open and poured us some beers. New Belgium Red Hoptober is great, btw. And at 10am after only eating a banana and running 3 miles, I only needed one :)

Skip Magerks for a weekend night out--unless your idea of a good time includes pop music and popped collars---but do go for some of the best happy hour specials in town. Highlights include Wednesdays (50 cent wings), Thursdays ($4 cheese steaks) and especially Tuesdays (half price munchies and $4 sushi rolls!) Yes, Magerks Pub and Grill has some of the best sushi in town at great prices. The selection is small (only about 6 roll choices) but all of them are consistently awesome. Make sure you get the lime wasabi mayo and chili garlic sauce on absolutely everything. The ahi tuna wrap is a perfect sandwich (ask for it seared if you don't love raw) and I love how it comes with a side of edamame rather than the usual chips or fries. You won't get waitresses in kimonos or that Japanese bubble gum, but you will get some of the freshest fish around at this unlikely sushi-serving pub.

Ok now, I came here to watch the NBA All-Star Game... Surprised to find out that they had it playing NOWHERE in the building, some other gentlemen sitting next to me where also wondering why the game wasn't playing, so I inquired about it and the bartender nicely put the game on ONE of the many TV's. Had the burger... It was DRY (bartender made the mistake that most do, assuming that because i'm BLACK I want a well-done burger) and the Bacon piece that I paid a dollar for was so small I had to search for it... I asked for Sauteed Mushrooms...none to be found... Overall the service here was pretty WACK... I wont ever come back!!!

The place has great feel with lots of wood and exposed brick, like it would be easy to become a regular. The staff was friendly but not the most professional. The food was satisfyingly yummy. The have a menu of different cheese steaks, all of which had a generous portion of meat and cheese without being too greasy. The appetizer portions were kind of skimpy for the price. Decent beer selection, but could use a couple more craft brews.

A solid spot to grab a cheesesteak and a pint for lunch and a game with friends. The menu is classic pub grub with a few jems like the cheesesteak eggrolls and old bay tots. Wings are big and well-seasoned. And if you're craving something completly off, try the Eagles Wings - smothered in old bay and cheese whiz - they're great. Oh, and they've got some of the best sushi in town. If you're looking to chill and watch a game, go before the frat brah party crew shows up after happy hour.

I felt way over dressed at Magerk's. And by overdressed I do not mean that what I was wearing was too formal. I mean that I was wearing too much...as in I was not showing enough leg, cleavage, and midriff. Oh, and my boyfriend's collar wasn't popped. We stuck out like a sore thumb. The place was also packed. It was impossible to dance upstairs, as there were so many people on the dance floor that I couldn't move an inch, let alone dance. The drinks were priced steeply, and the bathroom was as hot as a sauna.

It's not the best cheesesteak I've ever had, but for 100 miles from Philly, it's not bad. Roll was just about perfect. Soft and absorbent on inside, perfect amount of crunchiness on outside. Pizza steak was good, with main weakness being an unexceptional sauce. The steak itself was good. I tried the chicken cheesesteak as well, which was good. Very good chicken (though a tad dry) so add some onions for extra juiciness. The night I went, they had $4 cheesesteaks and $1.50 yuengling drafts. That's just plain awesome.
(4)
Kris L.
$4 cheesesteaks are a GREAT deal...and who can beat $1.50 yuenglings? it's like they are trying to draw everyone from philly into their bar...

Since I've never had their food, I'm going to rate this place using only those metrics of a bar that matter to a man: Pretty Bartender's. Check

The cheesesteaks are awesome. And you can't beat half-priced cheesesteak night on Thursday nights. Granted, I'm not from Philadelphia, but I've had cheesesteaks in Philly, and there aren't too far behind. This is definitely in my top-3 for happy hour/Orioles pregame locations in Fed Hill. Happy hour specials are pretty good with $1.50 drafts on most nights. Service is hit or miss. You can go in there one day and get your food in 5 minutes; other days it can take a while. Overall, a pretty good spot.

Pure, unadulterated gluttony. We came here after Brew in the Zoo with our bellies full of beer but ready to drunkenly feast. My friend Sam raved about the cheese steaks so we all decided to sample one of the many varieties on the menu. I went with The MaGerk: steak, American cheese, cooked salami, fried onions, and most importantly...Russian dressing. It was a delicious, messy disaster. Everyone else seemed to thoroughly enjoy their sandwiches as well since it was pretty quiet around the table. We also split an order of onion rings which were pretty good, especially tasty with the accompanying chipotle sauce. My friends were daring enough to try the eagles wings complete with Old Bay, Cheese Whiz, and your choice of hot sauce. They looked strangely amazing and disappeared very quickly. MaGerks also seems to have a great deal of specials. My friends were ecstatic to order a bucket of Miller High Life ponies (please don't ask me why...) for $7. And there were many other specials for each day of the week. I am rarely in Baltimore, but I would happily return if ever I am in the area and in need of large meal and possible heart attack.

Came here one rainy afternoon for some half off cheesesteaks. The place was packed and they had to bring in wet chairs from outside and set up a makeshift table.... Cheeseteaks were good, not great. It was only $4 that day but they're usually $8. No way is it worth $8. I also got their spicy tuna sushi roll....who would've thought that a loud, american bar would offer sushi? I was like WTF?! But to my surprise it was pretty good! and spicy! Those bad boys had a big fish to rice ratio. And the fish tasted fresh too, not what you would expect from this kind of atmosphere.

This place is seriously like a hidden gem... not in so far as you have to try hard to find it, or that people don't know about it, but because it's seriously so much better than it seems at first glance. We probably aren't the typical Magerk's clientele (not fratty, not on a softball/kickball team), but nonetheless we find ourselves here several times a week because the food is AWESOME and the prices are CRAZY cheap. Where else do you know where you can get four Yuengling and three delicious orders of sushi (AMAZING shrimp tempura and California roll with REAL crabmeat!) for $20? I know it seems completely ridiculous to order sushi at a giant college-style sports bar, but it's so so good and totally reasonably priced - $6/roll, and the rolls are a good size and full of shrimp or crab or whatever you order. And on Tuesday they're only $4! Also, the cheesesteaks are really really rad. We've only ever had them on Thursday night, when they're $4 and canned Boh is like $1.50 or something... but they're super delicious, the hot peppers are HOT, you can get crispy salami (??!!) on them, and they come with Utz potato chips. Cheap cold beer, delicious bar food... the tab is rarely over $20... and the bartenders are always super nice and half the time they end up comping us a drink or two... I LOVE MAGERK'S!

Magerk's is one of my favorite bars in Federal Hill. I have been here a few times over the years. It's a real cool, chill spot. The food is actually very good and the place gets packed at night. I am going to break my review up into 2 parts - the food and the bar scene: The Food - my wife and I came here to grab a bite to eat before we met some people out in Federal Hill. They advertise great cheesesteaks, and a lot of reviews on here concur with that claim. I went with a buffalo chicken cheesesteak - I ordered mine hot. My wife had a salad. The salad wasn't very impressive looking when it came out, but my cheesesteak was very good. The bread was good, there was a ton of chicken and it was nice and spicy. I am pretty sure it had melted American cheese on it. I was just a little disappointed because I don't think any blue cheese was incorporated into the sandwich. The sandwich also only comes with a bag of chips - no fries. Overall, it was a very good cheesesteak and definitely one of the better buffalo chicken cheesesteaks that I've had in a while. The Bar - they had Sam Adams Octoberfest on tap so props to them. The bar here gets absolutely packed at night and is a real fun place to come with a group of people. I like this place because it isn't pretentious at all - it just comes off as a relaxing type of bar. My kind of place. Bartenders serve you your drinks in a very timely manner. Even though I don't live in Baltimore/Federal Hill, I would have to imagine this is one of the better bars in the area. It's a cool bar and the food is good - pretty much all you can ask for. I will definitely come back when I am in the area.

Cheesesteaks are amazing. They rival ones from Philly & South Jersey. Sometimes it gets crowded from all the people trying to eat, while it's packed with people drinking.

I grew up in the suburbs of Philly, so when I found out this was a Philly bar I knew I would like it. What I didn't expect was the cheese steaks to rival the ones I get at home. After my last trip home I was disappointed by the cheese steak I had at the local hoagie shop by my parents house where we've been going for years. I went to Magerk's the day after I returned home to fed hill to satisfy my craving for a good ch steak.

The Good: - Some of the best cheesesteaks I've ever had in Baltimore. Only $4 on Thursday nights. - Good beer specials if you're a fan of Bud Light, Miller Lite, Coors Light, etc. The Bad: - Stereotypical Federal Hill crowd: wall to wall meatfaces and skanks - It's a Philly bar - Entirely too crowded - Not enough bathrooms for such a large bar - The typical garbage top 40 music loved by meatfaces and skanks - Sightings of a popped collars Is this place for you? Go early on Thursday nights for the cheesesteaks but make sure you leave before 9pm or you'll be surrounded by some of the worst people in Baltimore. There is no reason to ever go here on a Friday or Saturday night unless you like spending your evening next to 5 sweaty guys in Ed Hardy t-shirts.

Always a great time at Magerk's. Great service, lots of mildly priced beer, and plenty of people to watch. If you go to the bathroom, go upstairs. The one downstairs is a *hitshow.

This place seemed to be a complete free for all. I have never been here before so I don't know if they have security or not, but they definitely need to look into getting some. People freely entered without being carded and there was no consideration for how packed the place was. People were so packed into this place you could hardly move and it felt like the place was on the verge of collapse. But I was meeting up with friends to celebrate a birthday, so I felt obligated to squeeze through the crowd and make my way upstairs. The entire place reeked of vomit and there were so many bodies the heat was practically unbearable. It took forever to get a beer and it was so packed I couldn't even enjoy my drink. The only thing I liked about this place was the great music but it wasn't enough to keep me around since there was no room to dance to it anyway. What really put me over the edge was the guy that decided to urinate inside of the bar! You heard me -- he just unzipped and started going. I can try to have a good time in a crowded bar with crappy service, but bodily fluids just put me over the edge. I left the place before I had the opportunity to witness anyone stepping in his puddle of pee. I wish it were possible to give zero stars, that's how bad my first and only experience was here. I was surprised to see the other reviews were so positive. I think that the night I went (Halloween Eve) was crazier than usual, but no bar should ever be this disgusting. I don't think I'll ever give Magerk's a second chance.

Grabbed a Cheesesteak and Yuengling before the Ravens game this past week. Service was great and the Cheesesteak was better.

Surreal. That is how I describe Magerk's. The other day one of my girlfriends asked if I wanted to grab bite in Fed Hill. Sure. It had been a while since we got together and complained about the men in our life, talked about celebrity gossip, and compared shoe shopping notes. Okay not exactly, but it was nice to have a girl's night. We went to Magerk's because she had a craving for a sushi sandwich. "Huh?" I said. I must have heard wrong so ignored it. We walked into the bar and it was very busy for a Wednesday night. People were in kickball t-shirts were bumping into each other, the music was blaring, and tv screens were everywhere. I was just grateful I am not epileptic. We ordered beer in plastic pint cups careful not to slosh them, as we carefully staked out tables in the room. When became available we pounced. Our server was bustling around like a mad woman. We could not be mad at her as we saw watched her ability to pour and serve so many tables at once. When we finally got our menu, I realized my friend was not crazy. There really was a sushi sandwich on the menu. To be more specific sushi grade tuna slightly seared served in a wrap with spicy mayonnaise. We ordered two. Okay so I just ordered sushi (sort of) in an Irish/college bar with the sushi chef being a tall African American man who worked at a cramped space at the end of the bar. And I was about to eat my words. The sandwich was excellent. The quality of the tuna was amazing, the sauce was spicy, and the lettuce was surprisingly refreshing and a perfect counterpoint. Even the edamame was perfect, firm with just enough salt flakes. Points only come off because it was so loud in the place I could not hear myself think.

I had to come back and revise this review because something changed! Was it the sushi chef? Was it the quality of seafood used? Must have been both! Before, the rolls were pretty massive and delicious. Now, they shrank to a wee size and tasted well, unsatisfactory and fishy. Have to admit the entire sushi meal was dissatisfying...Bummer! I wish my original review were still true but something changed... Not typically a bar goer, but I have to share that this is Baltimore's best kept secret for Sushi. It is affordable and delicious!

Typical college/frat/hook-up/sports bar. Try any burger on a pretzel roll for that added Philly kick.

We stopped in here before heading to pub dog pizza for dinner. The bar area was nice and breezy and the apps we had were good (chicken tenders and crab dip). I'd love to know the story behind why it's an Ohio State bar and supports Philly...

Good food and service is usually good. Sometimes a little loud and crowded. Cheesesteaks are pretty good!

Done with kickball? Just lost coed volleyball ? No sweat, you can lament at Magerks! The place is nothing special, while also being above average, it is solid bar food. We will certainly be back, although not for an eagles game. Tap list was below average but the crowd was fine drinking bud light bottles. Sushi was good and fresh, and would get that again. The spicy tuna was a tuna roll with spicy mayo on top, which I like better because it ensures it is actually tuna you are receiving and not chopped up leftovers. It got very noisy, but that's expected for a sports bar atmosphere. Not too many tables so go expecting to eat at the bar. Service was good and was a pretty cheap meal. Thursday they run a half off cheesesteaks special. I got one of those, though there buffalo sauce is spicy even the mild was hot, and I have a good spice tolerance. The build your own burger/chicken sandwich had plenty of options. Get the pretzel roll.

Cheesesteaks are bangin. Wings can be good but they've had their bad days. French Onion soup is nothing to write home about. Sushi is surprisingly tasty and cheap. Careful, the spicy tuna wrap is SPICY. Good place on thursdays although very young crowd. Gets rowdy at night and good beer specials (2$ beers throughout the week). Generally awesome service at the bar altho table service can get slow.

If you're looking for a pub with pretty good food, that will serve you a breakfast sandwich at 1pm, Go here. If you're looking for a pub with pretty good food, that will serve you a breakfast sandwich simultaneously with cheese fries (and rather good cheese fries I may add)... go here. If you want to watch many sports games on multiple Tv's and drink beer.... go here. We had really good service... but since we're out of towners I don't know if that's consistent. I'd go here again, and if I did I would definitely order the cheese fries.

What could be better than an Eagle's bar in Baltimore? Having grown up as a long time Philly fan, moving to a city where the Ravens rule has been a challenge. At least I know that there is one place that I can wear a McNabb jersey and not get a beer bottle thrown at me (yes, it has happened). A Federal Hill sports bar with Philadelphia all over it, it is no surprise that this place makes one of the greatest cheesesteaks around. Combine that with a Blue Moon, some friends, and a football game and you've got one good Sunday afternoon ahead of you. Even more surprising is the sushi. I was skeptical at first too, but the spicy tuna roll was pretty fantastic and ranks up there with some of my other favorite sushi restaurants. At night on the weekends this place takes on more of a dance "club" type atmosphere. As the night gets later, the music gets louder and you'll be lucky if you can even fit between people to access the bar, restroom, or exits for that matter. The upstairs becomes a dance floor and while the music selection is hit or miss, I'm usually happy to hear a good amount of Bon Jovi (yeah, I'm a Jersey girl). Overall, this is one of my favorite pubs in Federal Hill.

Good food, crappy atmosphere. Too loud & crowded usually... more than once I've thought about going there and decided against it because I knew it would be chock full o' frat boys. But the sushi rolls are surprisingly awesome and the salads are pretty great too.

This is the typical Federal Hill joint. Actually this is the most stereotypical of all Fed Hill spots...full of young, semi-wealthy, but well dressed smiling people. I can not say that the crowd is friendly. Usually people go there in packs and hang out with each other as opposed to being social. It was a good place to watch the final four though. As for food...yum yum yum. The sushi is by far the best in Fed Hill (yes even Nichi Ban). Try the spicy tuna roll. The sauce that is drizzled over them is both creamy and spicy and the cut of tuna is meaty and generous. I like how the windows open wide to let the sun and air dance across the table was you watch the crowd stagger by...

This is great staple of Federal Hill. I go here to watch almost any sporting event also anytime when I am down in that area after tailgating. It's tends to swing toward a Philly bar, but it also supports the local teams as well. The food is very good. They have cheese steaks that are some of the best in town. You have to get Wiz to appreciate. They also have sushi which also looks very solid. Lots of people eating it. Tons of beer specials during the week. It does get pretty busy after 10pm.

Nicole C.
As many of the other review have indicated this is a typical American food fare bar. I was also told that the cheese steaks are AMAZING, but I didn't find them anything to rant and rave about (not that I wouldn't have one again though). However, just as Justin said in another review, their sushi is absolutely OFF THE CHARTS... if you go ya gotta get the spicy tuna roll and edamame. Absolutely Heaven!

Totally not my scene (a little too crowded), and had it not been my first night in Baltimore I probably wouldn't have ended up at Magerk's. However, I gotta give the place credit. It renewed my interest in Top 40 music (that which I had lost faith in 10 years ago). It takes a lot to do that. It was fun!

In the past, I only knew Magerk's as a place to go out at night (and it was among my favorite). I would have never considered going there for lunch until a friend recommended their cheesesteaks. Some agree, some do not, but they've got the best cheesesteaks in Baltimore, hands down! If you like things spicy, definitely try to the cheesesteak with buffalo sauce on it! The spicy tuna roll is also excellent (again, something I would have never expected). The wings are excellent! Honestly, never had anything there that I didn't like! If you're in the fed hill area around lunch time...definitely stop in.

This is usually the spot where my friends and I end the night. It's usually ok, tho it has it's off nights, and the bar staff are either the nicest people you ever meet or the biggest douches on the planet. The music is typical top 40, and its a lot of bad dancing, but hey, very few of us are good dancers and by this point in the night we are usually too drunk to care. All in all its fun when its got a good crowd (It can get Jersey Shore at times and I have seen a fight break out practically every time I have been there) and overly crowded.

Simply the best cheesesteaks in B-more, hands down. Good place to grab a beer and watch football. REALLY crowded on the weekends. All in aall a good local spot with a Philadelphia theme.

I had heard people were all like "ooh, MaGerk's has the best cheesesteaks outside of Philly", so I decided to give it a shot. The cheesesteak was above average, but nothing to freak out about. So stop freaking out, would you? Shaved steak, american cheese, on a roll. If you want to have the best cheesesteak you better have a secret ingredient, which MaGerk's does not. The steak was a little on the wet side, leaving the bun a little soggy. Plus, they forgot the mushrooms but remembered to charge me for them. They come with an itty bitty bag of chips and a pickle. Come on, for $8 you can't give me a side of fries? Service was okay.

nothing crazy about it, just another typical american bar in fed hill. however, the way they setup the bars made getting alcohol pretty easy, and it's always great to drink there for pre/post/during game on sundays. the only negative thing i see is the place is kinda narrow so during the busy hour it's very hard to walk around, but then again, all bars are like that on weekends

this bar appeals to me: good food, good drinks (not very hard, i know) and good staff. the cheesesteaks are pretty good (i prefer the chicken one). however, it's all about the other side of the menu (not available sun and mon)...the sushi is good (who would've guessed) and the spicy tuna wrap is off the charts.

(4)Allie P.
I have yet to find a cheesesteak in Philly as good as the ones at Magerks. I love the egg rolls, sushi and chicken fingers too. There's always a Deep Eddy's special running.
(5)Minna W.
(4)Allison W.

Holy cow.
(4)Matt L.
Solid food, good beer specials... Too bad there were numerous drunk jackasses ruining the experience being loud and stumbling into our table.
(4)Josh F.
While visiting a friend we stopped in here for a drink and some grub. The Gyros were really good. We also ordered the Pretzel with cheese and crab dip and it was awesome. I definitely recommend it. The staff was also very friendly.
(4)Danielle H.
(2)Dee D.
Cheesesteaks! Went here to watch the game. I was hesitant to order food because they were so busy. Wings were good. Drinks were decent and the cheese steak was like a real deal Philly hoagie. I will be returning on a night with specials. They have a different special daily.
(4)Alexis O.
(5)Rashed A.
I had the philly cheese steak, which comes with a bag of chips and not fries. Nothing special but the atmosphere was great, staff was friendly.
(3)Michelle W.
(3)Nina U.
I've never had their food but beers on tap are good :-)
(4)Eric J.
(4)Derek G.
(5)Alice B.
Just tried calling several times to order food and there was no answer. There was no way to leave a message either. What kind of bar isn't answering the phone during Monday night football?
(1)Will M.
(5)Kojo B.
(4)Carlyn M.
(4)Kevin M.
Went here on Sunday to watch the Birds play post Ravens game. It was a fun scene, great staff, and decent prices. I would def go here again. Great place for football.
(4)Chris W.
Super neat place in the Federal Hill District. Great place to go and have fun and have some cocktails and watch the games. Had the CheeseSteak and that was very good. Overall a fun place and would go again.
(4)FedHill G.
(4)Patrick R.
(1)Michele C.
(3)Paul S.
(4)Harrison E.
(2)Hannah W.
Love it here, the friendly staff has me coming back! Oh, and the 1.50 Yuenglings from 4-7.
(5)Michael M.
(4)Logan G.
best cheesesteak i've ever had. just hate the atmosphere.. lots of screaming and drunk people being annoying. try to avoid this place during football season. SO packed you can't get a seat and often the waitresses will forget about you cuz they are so busy at the bar. my suggestion is order the cheesesteaks over the phone and go pick them up and eat them in the comfort of your own home. they are THAT good.
(4)Colin F.
Bartenders will purposely tell you the non specials and food specials that will not be honored. Deceitful and dishonest. Unfortunate at best. Why do business that way?
(1)Maria P.
(3)Heather F.
(5)Larier C.
The Whiz cheesesteak was delicious, but the consistency of the meat was waaaay to mulched up, kinda reminded me of those doggy meals in cans. But it was really good. Dont sit in the back, the mosquitos are outta control. Service was great, music was good and its def and local spot.
(3)James K.
Seeing as how I'm approaching 40, the ambiance is something I'd have been more into about a decade ago. That said, I had no problem enjoying a nice authentic steak sandwich. The 9th and Passyunk with onions added would give many whiz wit's in the Philly area a run for their money.
(4)Victoria L.

Been here a bunch of times and always get great service. They also usually have some specials going that will please your wallet too.
(5)Adrienne D.
Amazing cheese steaks and great sushi! They have good happy hour specials, too.

(4)Kris L.
$4 cheesesteaks are a GREAT deal...and who can beat $1.50 yuenglings? it's like they are trying to draw everyone from philly into their bar...
(3)Tony H.
Since I've never had their food, I'm going to rate this place using only those metrics of a bar that matter to a man: Pretty Bartender's. Check
(5)Anthony S.

(3)Lauren B.
Cheesesteaks are amazing. They rival ones from Philly & South Jersey. Sometimes it gets crowded from all the people trying to eat, while it's packed with people drinking.
(5)Joseph T.
Thursdays. $4 steaks. nuff said.
(4)R T.

(2)Rodge B.
Always a great time at Magerk's. Great service, lots of mildly priced beer, and plenty of people to watch. If you go to the bathroom, go upstairs. The one downstairs is a *hitshow.
(5)Jules J.

(1)Jonathan L.
Typical college/frat/hook-up/sports bar. Try any burger on a pretzel roll for that added Philly kick.
(3)Kara W.
We stopped in here before heading to pub dog pizza for dinner. The bar area was nice and breezy and the apps we had were good (chicken tenders and crab dip). I'd love to know the story behind why it's an Ohio State bar and supports Philly...
(3)Gary J.
Good food and service is usually good. Sometimes a little loud and crowded. Cheesesteaks are pretty good!
(4)Tiffany G.
great cheesesteaks and chicken cheesesteaks! Beer is good, atmosphere is fun. also have sushi if you so feel inclined. love this bar!
(5)Joshua W.
(3)Chris B.
(3)Cassandra W.
(5)Angela Z.
(4)Marye I.
Good food, crappy atmosphere. Too loud & crowded usually... more than once I've thought about going there and decided against it because I knew it would be chock full o' frat boys. But the sushi rolls are surprisingly awesome and the salads are pretty great too.
(3)Shannon G.
(3)Arthur R.
(4)Nicole C.
(5)Ria S.
It was fun!
(4)Scott L.
(5)Patrick C.
(4)Abby ..
Worst bar i've ever been into. Am a female that was assaulted by a bouncer while at the bar. LADIES BE CAREFUL.
(1)Jim F.
Simply the best cheesesteaks in B-more, hands down. Good place to grab a beer and watch football. REALLY crowded on the weekends. All in aall a good local spot with a Philadelphia theme.
(4)Gunnar V.
(3)Josiah L.
nothing crazy about it, just another typical american bar in fed hill. however, the way they setup the bars made getting alcohol pretty easy, and it's always great to drink there for pre/post/during game on sundays. the only negative thing i see is the place is kinda narrow so during the busy hour it's very hard to walk around, but then again, all bars are like that on weekends
(4)Justin M.
this bar appeals to me: good food, good drinks (not very hard, i know) and good staff. the cheesesteaks are pretty good (i prefer the chicken one). however, it's all about the other side of the menu (not available sun and mon)...the sushi is good (who would've guessed) and the spicy tuna wrap is off the charts.
(4)
