If you want to feel like your visiting your grandma's favorite diner, this is the place. We went up to Clementine ' s for brunch but apparently it's closed. A nice blonde recommended this 50 's diner as we were being nosey with our faces pressed against the glass of the closed restaurant. On the way there we passed it and had to GPS our way back down Harford Rd. They need some balloons or a bigger sign. The place is small but so quaint. Lots of me morabilia on the walls. Small menu but everything is cooked right in front of you, which is nice. We had a burger and steaks with eggs. The steaks were awesome for $12. Cooked just right and loved the spice. Our server was Rosalie. She has a spunky hair do and was apparently daughter of the owners. She was kind and chatty. It was a perfect brunch! Thank you for the recommendation random blonde lady. I will be back.

One of my favorite spots in the neighborhood. Simple, no frills, cheap diner food. Love it!

Great food and great service. My family loves this place. This is American comfort food at its finest!

I now have a new breakfast spot! They make my eggs and scrabble perfectly every time. I never leave disappointed like I do at big chain diners. Also college approved! The price for two eggs, meat, homefries and toast is less than $10. Friendly staff too.

Cute little neighborhood diner. Quick yummy breakfast & friendly attentive service. Prices are extremely reasonable and the atmosphere is cute 50's type. Booths are available and they also have bar seating if it's too crowded.

Great little place. Staff is very friendly. It's clean and the food is good. I'm a fan of the breakfasts, especially the biscuits. Those are light, fluffy and flavorful. I wish they'd open for dinner.

A small, neighborhood diner. The food is fast, cheap, and decent. They make a pass at nostalgia, but it's sort of half hearted, and that's okay. Avoid the baked goods - I'm pretty sure they get them from Costco or something instead of a local bakery, and you can taste the difference. I recommend the grits - but crumble up some bacon and throw it in there. We've mostly gone here for breakfast, but now it's a local IHOP every time we want pancakes, so it's not like I can claim Lost in the 50s is a stand out place, but it definitely has a laid back, Baltimore, family-owned charm to it.

This place has the absolute best cream chipped beef, ever. The Teeny Boppers, four burger sliders, are really great, too. The cheese steak is awesome. And great pancakes. Love the homey, warm atmosphere. It's a wonderful place to have a family breakfast or lunch, especially when we have time to linger. We haven't had a single bad experience or meal.

Ok.so the service is always weird here. No one greeted us and when the young man finally walked over he seemed confused as to why we were here. He asked if we were ok and then if we wanted something to drink. I replied that a menu my be helpful. After that everything was good.

great Food!! Breakfast was delicious. Service was friendly. Nice 50's vibe. A most go too when in Bmore. I'm glad places like this still exist.

Great little diner! The food was really great. I had a western omelet with home fries and a side of bacon. My hubby had the pancakes with bacon. The decor is cute and the vibe in the restaurant is good. The service is admittedly a little slow, but friendly. If you are patient, this is a hidden gem to grab a bite to eat. Can't wait to eat here again.

It's really nice to have a neighborhood diner. My daughter and I pop in for a weekend breakfast from time to time. It's a pretty basic breakfast menu, but everything is always tasty and large portions. There isn't a tremendous amount of booth seating (less than a doze, but they are very large tables), but they do have a breakfast bar that you can wait at for a booth, or just enjoy your meal there. The service is friendly and the prices are right. There is nothing dazzling about this place, but it's a great Mom and Pop shop for breakfast with friends.

We tried this diner recently and **loved** the food! This restaurant is, natch, a fifties themed place with sparkle vinyl upholstery and boomerang Formica counters. It looks the part and is cozy. The staff is super nice. They always seemed to have a smile, and the service was quick. The homemade chicken soup was the best we have ever had. (We are craving it right now!) It was appropriately hot, tasted low in fat and was ripe with plump noodles and chicken, corn and potatoes. Despite the fact that it was not overly rich, the taste was heavenly. It's hard to exactly describe the taste, but it bathed our taste buds in sublime goodness from the first spoonful to the last. We also got the turkey and cheese club and the ham and cheese club. Both were excellent with crispy bacon. We think the toasted bread was buttered; this is a good thing. This place is so easy to miss and a larger, better sign is needed to draw in more business. It's a shame that the Hamilton business restrictions seem designed to thwart commerce rather than propagate it. Hamilton, you have the ability to be another Hampden on the east side of Baltimore if you captain the commercial district with a better sense of vision. Anyway, we will definitely be back for more of this wonderful food!

I live around the corner from this place and I always drive past it thinking, "Hmm, it seems like it would be cool. I wonder..." So I decided to go and pick up breakfast on a Sunday morning. It is your typical old-school diner with friendly faces and SIMPLY GOOD BREAKFAST! I got the French Toast with home-fries...tasted like it was made from mom's kitchen. No gimmicks, no frills, just great good with a homeade taste. It would've gotten 5 stars if the cook replaced her gloves every time she touched everything else except the food! I mean, HELLOOOO, we can see you!! She went from dipping the bread into batter to opening the fridge and grabbing ham out of the container with her hands and not ONCE did she change her gloves...c'mon, its not hard to be clean.

Lost in the 50s is a cute hole-in-the-wall diner that most tend to overlook. The breakfast is simple but delicious. The french toast is great! The lunch is once again simple but it hits the spot. The burger is actually fairly impressive. The service is a little slow, but that's understandable when there's one cook. You can watch him work his magic as there's a bar that overlooks the grill area. The food is good, the atmosphere is friendly, the decor is charming and the prices are very agreeable. Go for it!

Super duper pancakes and home fries. Very cute decor and friendly staff. The prices are great and though it's small, I've never had to wait for a table.

The BEST pancakes I've ever had, hands down. They're slightly undercooked (but in a good way) and taste like they've already got syrup in them! The eggs are always done perfectly, no matter which way they're ordered. The bacon is perfect and the french toast is plentiful. I'm more of a hash brown than home fries fan, but the home fries are well-seasoned and tasty. Nothing really out of the ordinary, but for a eggs & toast kinda gal like me, that's just fine. The waitstaff is friendly and engaging, but less than efficient when there is a large crowd. It's very small but i If you're up early with your infant and 3 year old, you're guaranteed a seat on a Saturday/Sunday. Other than that, I wouldn't recommend going with a party over 4 if you want a quick seat after 10:30 am. I consider myself a regular by now and in response to the reviews saying that cleanliness/cooking habits are sub-par, I have not witnessed a thing yet- but then I'm not watching everyone's moves 100% of the time. I come for the cheap and tasty eats and leave satisfied every time!

Neat decor, kind staff, good food, great prices. What more do you want? I had the sliders and fries, and my brother polished off a whole Philly cheesesteak that he had been planning to eat only half of but it was just so delicious. Yeah, their website looks like it is lost in the '90s, but don't hold that against them!

Came in here on a snowy Saturday morning to find an empty diner. The inside is charming, very authentic looking! The wait staff is very friendly and inviting as well. The food is good. I had a breakfast sandwhich and home fries, my friends got French toast and pancakes. All of the food was fresh and yummy! Between the three of us we spent $20 before tip, so it's cheap! Go here, this place is awesome. :)

When you come to a diner you expect quick service...don't go there if you are thinking that. Arrived at 12:45, and it is now 1:35....a burger and a Turkey club shouldn't take that long.....and still waiting. Never again!

Very small, cute diner. Drove right past it the first time, but then saw it nestled between two shops. Service was great! Server was nice and friendly. The food was good for the price. My husband had eggs, potatoes, sausage, and pancakes while I had a omlett with potatoes and toast. Our bill was just about $16, which was great!! The food was good and deserved 4 stars. But then came the large bug crawling on the wall. Once the server was notified of it, she killed and scooped it up with the cloth that the tables are cleaned with. Ok you would think that then she would get rid of the cloth...NO...she put it back in the bucket with the water. Shortly after that she grabbed the SAME cloth and wiped a dirty table. At this point I was ready to puke! Good thing I was done eating. All I wanted to do was pay and leave!! Eating at tables cleaned with bug guts is not my thing. Sad to say, I will not be returning to the Lost in the 50s Diner...

Lost in the 50s diner exemplifies the Charm in Charm City. This cutely kitch diner serves the simple 50s diner classics in an environment that is less of a replication and more of an ode to the 1950s. The food is simple but delicious and the prices are unbelievable affordable. The staff is incredibly friendly and immediately make you feel welcome. When I am craving and inexpensive lunch or breakfast that is both simple and satisfying this is my go to place. The burgers are juicy, fresh and filling. The milkshake is creamy and delicious and I love the scrambled eggs and french toast.

I visited the diner on a Tuesday morning around 10. I wouldn't have known about this place if not for Yelp, and so happy to have found it! There were only a few other customers, so service was fast. The ladies who greeted me (waitress and cook/owner too maybe?) were really sweet. I ordered a western omelette and grits, and I have to say it was the best I ever had. And I thought breakfast was just breakfast. Not so! Price was perfect. This place rocks and I'll be back.

Small, fun place in Hamilton. Easy on-street parking on Sunday morning. real old-school diner feel with shiny glittery red benches and stools, formica tabletops and the grill right behind the counter. Fast, friendly service and great prices. Standard breakfast foods. Don't go out of your way, but do stop by if in the neighborhood and support local businesses!

Lost in the 50's is where my son and I go for breakfast sometimes on Sunday mornings. The food is decent and the family that runs it is very nice. They really work hard and continually put forth the effort to make the restaurant special. This is why I'm surprised that the menu isn't special. It lacks any real identity other than American breakfast favorites. The food is the only thing holding Lost in the 50's back...any trip down the road to Clementine on a a weekend should let them know what a breakfast service can be. In order to find an identity and grow the business the place has to be known for something. A perfect start might be to explore the family's heritage (Cuban or Mexican perhaps? - sorry that I'm not sure) and create some signature gourmet dishes that give the restaurant a real identity. Once this happens, the tables will be full from open to close. Another example of this in the area (an area lacking great breakfast options) is the Blue Moon Cafe in Fells Point. It shows what a small breakfast restaurant can really do if the menu is something that breakfastgoers and coffee shop mavens alike will flock to. Lost in the 50's - I love your little restaurant. This being said, your menu isn't catering to those who really spend money on breakfast. You have very little competition on Harford Road and NE Baltimore in general and your menu is really holding you back. Take a look at what other diners have grown into such as the Comet Cafe in Milwaukee or Miss Shirley's locally. People will pay more for a better experience and better food.

The servers were friendly and the food was decent. I wouldn't come back for the food alone as based on the reviews I thought it would be cheaper. In either case, it was very clean and different.

Solid, diner food. Prices are very reasonable. Pancakes were yummy. Decor was fun. Loved the old Hamilton photos. Service was good and food came quickly. I would definitely go back when I want a standard breakfast, like you'd get at home.

Terrible, terrible, terrible service. Never got a chance to order food. When we arrived we were never acknowledged by the waitress. We sat in a booth and waited for service. Waitress never came to the table. The table behind us provided us with menus and stated that we should flag down the waitress. I went to the counter and tried to get the waitresses attention. She apparently had trouble adding up the checks for her tables (even with the help of a calculator) and never looked up. She then walked past me served a man coffee and still never acknowledged me. At this point I left. Also should be noted that while standing at the counter I noticed that cook appeared to have a cold and runny nose. He kept sniffing but never took the time to blow his nose. It was not a good look or sound. Finally, there were a large amount of straggly looking men in and outside this place. Is there a shelter near by?

When this place first opened, we went often. As another reviewer stated, the menu is nothing special. It's standard American diner fare, but it is cooked very well. They do have a really good cook and the owner is also hard working and friendly. We almost always get breakfast. My husband likes the steak and eggs and I usually get the scrapple and eggs. Last week he tried the chicken and waffles special which was - oddly - fried chicken wings. He didn't like that too much. But other than that everything we've had there has been good food-wise. We have moved out of the neighborhood but still visit it on the occasional Sunday. Where they're losing us lately is with the spotty/indifferent service. The last few times we've been there the waitress has taken our order, then brought the food and asked if we needed anything else - and half our food would be missing - e.g., no toast with breakfast, or I ordered a breakfast platter with a side of oatmeal and didn't get the oatmeal. I ordered extra brown sugar with the oatmeal and didn't get that. Then the waitress argued with me that it already has some in there and to taste it first and "let her know" if I needed more. Yes, I need more - that's why I ordered it! I'm not really one to argue so at that point I dropped the tip to 10% and didn't eat the oatmeal. Each of the last three times we've been there no one has ever come to check on us after bringing us our meal or refill our drinks, not once. I know at least two of the waitresses are the owner's daughters. There are other waitstaff there as well, but lately we seem to be getting stuck with indifferent servers. Maybe some professional waitstaff or more accountability would really help, because this is really a nice place. I too would like to see something a little spicier on the menu, maybe some Latin dishes would be great. But we are giving it a wave-off for a while. If you don't mind having to constantly flag down your waitstaff or wait half an hour for your bill after you're done eating, the food isn't bad.

  • Michael Z.

Menu is very limited. Food is decent but don't arrive hungry. By the time you place your order and the food arrives you'll be ready for your next meal. There is one cook who if he moved any slower he'd be going backwards. I have been there about 5 times because it is in my neighborhood. Never have I been there where the cook didn't argue and complain about the wait staff. The girls do a great job but this guy should not be on a grill.

this place is so cute! the decor is great! the portions aren't gigantic, but neither are the prices. you can walk in with $10 and feed 2 people and leave a tip (a bad tip, but a tip none the less). they have scrapple and cut it and make it crispy!!!! that is hard to find at a diner, usually its big slabs, and i'm more of a crispy scrapple eater. our server immediatley apologized for it being a little slow, which i didn't even notice. but the slowness gave my friends and me time to talk, did not feel like we were getting rushed out of there at all! the place is a little hidden, but well worth the find. oh yeah and the waitress was fun, and joked around with us.
