Delicious, good amount of food for the money, delicious coffee and lattes, right across the street from cross street market. It's not a diner though, you will have to order your food first. And there are no waitresses but it's small and comfy. Will definitely be back!

Great breakfast. Big servings, friendly service, but the wait was a little much. Every coffee drink I saw go by me looked amazing, and so did the pancakes, so I know what I'll get next time. I had 2 eggs over medium, scrapple, toast, and cheesy grits. It was delicious comfort food, and they cooked the eggs right (!), but the only thing to really write home about was the grits though. HUGE portion, perfectly cooked, and not overly cheesy.

Great iced coffee, any size for $1...not going to Dunkin Donuts anymore. Light Street Cafe is a no-frills, mom and pop place but their breakfast food is delicious and so reasonably priced. My personal favorites are the waffles, coffee cake, and eggs. Downgraded one star because I'm not a big fan of their hashbrowns but that's definitely not a huge deal. This place fills up on weekend mornings, definitely a good move to try to get their before 10 a.m. on Saturday or Sunday. Always greeted with a big smile!

Try the Marble Mocha. Food was simple and not fancy. The pancakes are huge! The bacon was a little overcooked along with the omletes. The staff was friendly.

I don't write reviews often but I am compelled to after eating at Light St. Cafe. Excellent breakfast spot. I am from NY and came here on a YELP recommendation. The place has counter service. You order, pay, and eat at any table available. The pancakes, egg and cheese sandwiches, french toast, and coffee where off the hook. I was told that Sinbad the comedian comes in for the pancakes often. I can understand why. Coming back tomorrow before going back to NY.

I love the iced coffee/latte's here. I think the iced coffees are like a dollar. The breakfast is big and hearty, the staff is friendly, only downside is the wait time. Overall, it's not too bad. Definitely a go to spot if I'm in the mood for classic breakfast foods.

On christmas morning this was a beacon of light. I was starving and mostly every place was closed or had a huge wait. Its pretty simple operation where you pick up your food and bust your own table(dont like bussing). However the guy at the counter was really nice and the food was tasty. Their was a guy who may have been homelessness but seemed somewhat clean and they served him not making him feel less then. Said guy did ask us and the table next to us for some eggs to go with his pancakes. My fiance was pretty turned off (said he smelled) and I thought hey its xmas let him have a nice breakfast. He did get his eggs after Counter guy told him pls no begging in here. All in all.. Great xmas breakfast.

Do you know how hard it is to find a place that serves scrapple? Or find a place that actually pan fries it correctly? Thinly sliced, big slices, and crispy, but not burned, on the outside. I go here all the time and get the Meat and Egg Platter with scrapple, sunny side up eggs, and breakfast potatoes. It might even be better than the breakfast my mom makes... Excellent iced tea, super cheap prices, clean restaurant, and a friendly staff. It's my favorite breakfast spot in Baltimore :)

My family and I were looking for a quick bite before we left Baltimore. Being an indecisive person, I utilized my best friend, Yelp, for some help. I came across Light Street Cafe. We didn't dine inside, instead we got our food to go. First off, I'm a New Yorker. New York City is filled with cafes and delis that serve bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches. But this place made the BEST, I mean the BEST bacon, egg, and cheese ever. The eggs were fluffy and soft. Each bite of this sandwich provides a warm sensation of home and netflix. If that makes any sense at all. The bacon was crispy on the sides and fatty in the middle. The cheese melted into the eggs perfectly, providing the sufficient moisture and texture. Lastly the bread, oh the bread, the bread that's a match made in heaven for these ingredients. I'm not one to rave about food, but this place is so worth it. I would come to Baltimore just for another bite of that sandwich. P.S. the cafe was packed when we went to get our takeout- you know what that means.

I truly wish that I could give this place 5 stars. Customer service was INCREDIBLE. The cashier from whom I ordered was so friendly that I wish I ordered breakfast from him every single day. The coffee was decent, but the food was unremarkable. Still, I'd go back for the welcome reception alone.

Went for a late breakfast this past weekend, and was very pleased to see that they have all day breakfast! Music to my ears! Being my first time there, I had to go with a combo platter, opting for the eggs, meat and Waffle House special. Eggs: slightly light for over medium, but sufficiently yokey. Sausage patties: good! Taters: nicely seasoned little cubes, tasty overall. WaffleS (yes, that's plural!): not my style, being too soft, too sweet, and loaded with powdered sugar...why must I always forget to ask, and thereby request its exclusion. The coffee was decent enough, and the prices were okay. Some things seemed a little high, and others fairly cheap. Service was efficient and personable, though it's an order at the counter sort of place. I'm sure I'll make my way back some day.

It was a busy week this week, and I am so glad for small cafés that have very quick, but tasty take out. Plus, there is generally tons of street parking. I was in dire need of a iced coffee, and at Light Street Cafe, it was ginormous and only a dollar. For lunch, I was splitting with a colleague, so I let him choose - the Deluxe chicken cheese steak. Grilled white steak roll with chunks of chicken breast with grilled green peppers, onions and mushrooms. I chose provolone cheese - super melty, but not overpowering. I don't like LTO on my cheesesteaks, but you can get it if you want.

We took a walk from the hyatt.. Not the nicest walk in the world but loved once we got here. Friendly guy greeted us and made delicious cappachino. We both had breakfast sandwiches. They even had Turkey bacon and cheddar cheese. Momma was happy.

I've been here at least 10 times. Always consistent and consistency is key. Now a warning to those who are quick to judge on appearance. This place is super basic. No frills and extras here, just simple decor, tables and seating. Its small and the place fills up quickly, so if you see a table grab it. You get the table and have someone grab the menus. Yes.. you heard that. No waitresses or servers. Take a few minutes go over the menu and go place your order at the counter. When your order is ready they will call out " Bacon, egg and cheese on biscuit" Go grab your tray or bag. If the line is long and you want to eat in. Just hang around, the turn around is usually very quickly here. By the time you stand in line, order your food and your food is ready there will probably be a table ready. I love the Belgian waffles and french toast. Um taste your eggs and grits before salting they can be slightly heavy with salt. Listen .. good quality food, usually decent time on food turn around and inexpensive. The last time our order for a family of 3 we totaled at $21.00 before tip. We left full and happy Parking can be a problem especially Sunday breakfast brunch time

This place is dingy and I highly doubt it would pass a health inspection. There was a dead fly in my food and the manager refused to refund. Take your money elsewhere!

  • Rachel C.

Hands down your best bet for breakfast or brunch any day of the week. Chris and his staff are friendly and quick, and the food hits the spot every time. Best bacon egg and cheese bagel in Baltimore -- even THB can't compete with this perfection. It's a no-frills kind of place, so it's not the sort of place where you go for a special occasion. But if you're in the mood for good, quick affordable breakfast food, choose Light Street Cafe every time.

Keep moving nothing special here. I've heard great things about this place from friends and other yelp reviews but I'm not sure what what brings these people in. Maybe it's the reasonable price or the friendly service but I can definitely tell you its not the food. Everything was very bland and definitely not fresh. Asked if they had fresh strawberries and was told no just canned. Asked if the blue berries in the pancakes were fresh and was reassured that they were. As the food arrived what I saw in front of me was two heavy, thick, and bisquick looking pancakes. The appearance was off putting but I was starving and I dug in. I quickly realized something was off. I can't tell what it was but I'm assuming the berries were fresh then frozen for awhile then defrosted. The taste of the berries didn't leave my mouth for the rest of they day. The chicken and broccoli omelette once again looked unappealing and was very bland. Lastly the coffee wasn't even worth a second cup. I hear on the weekends this place has a long wait. It sucks for those people but good for me. It makes room at all the other places in the neighborhood that blow this place out of the water to get breakfast or brunch.

Great little place for a casual breakfast. No frills, no ambiance, no mimosas. Just good food at good prices. Nothing too spectacular. You order your food at the counter, then they bring it out to you when it's ready. The pancakes are really thick and fluffy, I appreciate that I can order just one pancake if I want. Solves the "should I get eggs OR pancakes?" dilemma every hungover person goes through. The honey walnut pancakes are my favorite. Beware if you order blueberry ones, they seemed to use canned berries, not fresh. The breakfast sandwich is huge, the english muffin/croissant to egg ratio is way off though, I wish it had a little less eggs. Home fries are really well seasoned.

Ordered scrambled eggs, pork sausage patty, coffee, sparkling water, and a banana. No other fruit on the menu. There's sit down service but you go up to the counter to order and pick up your food. The banana was in a bowl of bananas and mine looked ripe but not overly and not bruised. The sausage tasted fine. The eggs were okay. The coffee was fresh and medium strength. I got the sparkling water from the fountain. At 8:30 AM this Thursday just a few customers. The TV was on.

I reviewed Light Street Cafe back in March after my first visit and I am updating my review. Now, if I'm in town over the weekend, I'm at Light Street Cafe for breakfast at least one weekend morning - sometimes both! The food is high quality, the service is excellent and the prices can't be beat! I've tried almost everything on the breakfast menu and there is nothing that I wouldn't recommend. I also had lunch here once, and the sandwiches and fries are awesome. My "go-to" is the breakfast sandwich - light & fluffy eggs, American cheese and crispy turkey bacon on wheat, but you can choose the cheese, meat and bread. It's literally a work of art. I have also tried the pancakes, waffles, benedict and omelets - all were delicious! This is a no-frills diner style breakfast joint that serves up enormous portions of high quality food. The coffee - both iced and hot - is also delicious and at $1, gives Dunkin Donuts a serious run for the money. Do yourself a favor and check out Light Street Cafe! You definitely won't be sorry!!!

I have never had a bad meal here. The counter guy is always courteous and professional beyond the call of duty, and my food always comes out fast, hot, fresh, and in abundance! The $1 drinks are a steal, since you can get a giant iced coffee if you so desire (easily tripled elsewhere). Usual clientele are cops and people who live here in fed hill. For the weekend breakfast craze, they bring in a waitress to help with seating and bussing. Overall, it's a well-oiled machine, and I hope they are making a killing in spite of the very reasonable prices!

Mmmmmm Mocha Frappe. I love coffee. I love chocolate. I love frozen drinks. Boom, mocha frappe it is. For a few bucks one afternoon, I treated myself to this drink and was mighty pleased! I stopped in to get a little work done one afternoon. Found place by the window, plugged in, and got access to the free WiFi. The interior of this spot was very diner-esque, and a little dated but it was clean so no complaints there! The service was weird. I walked up to the counter, a lady standing there asked what I wanted but then called into the back for a guy to come out and take my order. While he was making my drink, he stopped in order to give a take-out customer his order and let him pay, then proceeded to finish my drink and let me pay. So the service left something to be desired but I'd consider coming back because those waffles and pancakes smelled soooooo good.

I went to light street before a day of exploring in Baltimore and it was a great way to start the day. The set up was a little strange, you stand in line to order at the counter then find a table. The day we went the place was pretty crowded so the waitress did a great job helping to clear out a table for us to sit at. Once our food was ready the kitchen sat it out and the one waitress brought it out to the table. When my food came out I was tempted to get it myself but I had just witnessed her get offended when someone else tried that so I waited until she brought it to me.. The food though was GREAT it made complete sense to me why the place was so crowded when I tastes my food! If nothing else the only reason I deducted one star is the ordering process and that water wasn't offered.

I woke up on a Sunday morning starving. Last morning in Baltimore, gotta get some local grub! I knew I was going to the Baltimore Museum of Industry that day so I asked Yelp where to find me some good foods around there. It brought me here. I was a little confused by the seating/ordering arrangement. But after a little observation I figured it out. Step 1: Find seating and reserve it for yourself with a cap/jacket (i missed this step and almost met with disaster) Step 2: Order & Pay Step 3: Chill at your table until your food's ready. Step 4: Go pick up your food at the counter. Step 5: Mmmmmm I took a risk and ordered the vegetable omelette. The risk was that I'm usually incredibly disappointed by omelettes. The fillings and everything always sound awesome but the execution always fails. Not this time. Yum! My omelette was perfect - so many yummy veggies and not watery! The home fries were perfectly cooked, my sausage patties were delicious, and my chai latte was delightful. It's definitely a casual place with no table service, but that was ok with me! Great experience, great breakfast. While I was eating, the proprietor came around and asked how everything was - nice! She also was there when I brought my dishes up to the service station, and took them for me! Thanks!

Oh my lord do not go here. Ordered a grilled cheese w/ ham and some fries. Currently in the most pain I've ever been in in my entire life from food poisoning. It's indescribable. Please save your stomachs and your money.

You get a lot of food for a decent price but there's nothing particularly special about this place. The best thing in my opinion is the $1 coffee. The waitstaff is friendly and service is pretty quick as well. I got french toast which was delicious but the home fries were very bland (and some of them were a little undercooked). Overall this place is satisfactory if you want a nice, filling breakfast but I'll never find myself craving the food here.

I rely enjoyed my breakfast burrito. It would have been improved with some salsa. The home fries were well cooked and the turkey sausage was moist. My wife ordered biscuits and gravy. It looked rather unappetizing and she didn't particularly enjoy it. Overall I'd come back but not order the biscuits and gravy.

This is about the best place for diner style breakfast in Fed Hill. It's a reasonably priced option with great tasting food served at reasonable prices. I've tried just about everywhere in Fed Hill for breakfast at one time or another. I used to like Rallo's because it is an institution and they served real cream with their coffee (seriously people, just make it an option for fatty's like myself...), but since the change in ownership (and the passing of Mr. Rallo-may he rest in peace), I've found myself looking for a breakfast place to frequent within walking distance. My goal was to find good if not great food without spending an arm and a leg on what used to be the cheapest meal of the day. After an exhaustive search, I feel confident that I've found what I've been looking for. Ambiance: LSC is essentially a storefront with a smattering of tables, a counter top where you place your order and a small kitchen and standing room area. It's not big, and it is no frills. The place is bustling on an early Saturday or Sunday morning where lines form and dissipate quickly. At first glance, there does not seem to be enough tables to meet the demand but they seem to turn over at just the right pace. Food: As I've only tried breakfast, I'll base my review upon that. Everything I have had from LSC is delicious. The eggs are light and fluffy, the meats are all tasty, and the pancakes are enormous. I ordered two pancakes and I couldn't finish them...well I probably could have, but on the day I went 1 1/2 was more than plenty. The sausage patties are the like sausage patties that ate McDonald's sausage patties. That probably doesn't make sense, but they look and tasted exactly like McD's but about twice the size. The coffee tastes freshly brewed and is delicious. Value: Coffee $1, pancakes $5, Sausage I believe was a couple of bucks. Two people can eat here and spend about $15 walking away fat and happy. Overall: It appears that LSC is carving quite a niche in the neighborhood. The friendly service is matched only by the food. This is the type of place that delivers exactly what it advertises. It appears the owner has hired a waitress who helps with saving tables for patrons in line, delivering food, and cleaning your table. It is a nice improvement that I believe will pay some dividends in moving the inevitable line that forms in and out. LSC is not the best breakfast I have ever had, but the place delivers quality, affordable food consistently. In my mind, it makes for a place I can recommend to my friends and family, and a place I find myself frequenting often.

Swung by for some breakfast food Sunday to see what 4.5 stars was all about. Parking was okay, found a spot across the street, the other people in our group also fared reasonably well. Clean, inviting restaurant. Small mix of round and square tables, max comfortable seating around one is probably 6. Order at the counter, pick up at the counter. Got the Light Street Breakfast Special. The food looked pretty standard. Two regular pieces of French toast (the waffle options that others had were pretty big), two eggs over medium, home fries, and turkey sausage. But I loved the french toast... spectacular, don't know how else to describe it. The eggs, fries and sausage good as well. The only ding is that the food, because it is made fresh, comes out in one at a time. Some of our group of 6 were done before the others had gotten their food. Overall good place for breakfast food. Happy to come back again. Hopefully with the same great luck with parking.

I came here after reading the reviews, and seeing that my neighbors were going here on a weekly basis. I took a friend from out of town here on my first visit. It is a clean, carpeted space, that wasn't crowded on a weekday morning at 8am. The owner was friendly and prompt in delivering our meals. You order at the counter, find a seat, and wait. Coffee was served in to go Styrofoam or paper cups. Not my favorite way to drink coffee, but it was fresh, and surprisingly good. I had the breakfast burrito with eggs, cheese, turkey bacon, and potatoes. My firend had a ham and cheese omlet. We were both quite pleasesd with the quality and quantity of food. I was full until after lunchtime, and had no indigestion. Overall, a really nice find. It is solid diner type food in a clean, quiet and convenient location.

The good: Big portions, lots of value for your $, friendly service and good food. I've heard they have free wifi. The bad: They don't have a parking lot so you have to look for spots on the street. The weird thing for me being that it was my first time there was that they don't have a waitress waiter type of set up. You walk up to a counter, order then they tell you when you can pick it up. If you are in the neighborhood it's a great spot but I wouldn't drive 20 minutes like I did to eat here.

  • Rachael T.

This place is excellent. The value for breakfast really can't be beat. Admittedly, it's not really anything too special - your typical diner kind of fare, but the prices are spot on and it's hard to find a decently priced meal in Fed Hill.

We took a walk from the hyatt.. Not the nicest walk in the world but loved once we got here. Friendly guy greeted us and made delicious cappachino. We both had breakfast sandwiches. They even had Turkey bacon and cheddar cheese. Momma was happy.

It was standard breakfast food. Nothing too special but you can't beat the prize and the portions. 4 stars for me!

Delicious, good amount of food for the money, delicious coffee and lattes, right across the street from cross street market. It's not a diner though, you will have to order your food first. And there are no waitresses but it's small and comfy. Will definitely be back!

Great place to drop in for and affordable breakfast if you're in the area. The portions were generous. Really good selection of coffees and other drinks as well.

Great place! Amazing attention. Family owned bliss! The food is great and has a home made feel to it unlike the big chains. Great place to eat.

This place is excellent. The value for breakfast really can't be beat. Admittedly, it's not really anything too special - your typical diner kind of fare, but the prices are spot on and it's hard to find a decently priced meal in Fed Hill.

Truly a friendly neighborhood place for a great breakfast or a bite for lunch. It doesn't pretend to be anything more than it is: good food at a good price.
