I'll keep my rating the same as before (4 stars) because of Kirbie's convenient location (if you work or go to school at UMB) and friendly workers. However, I tried the chicken souvlaki and it was pretty mediocre; you'll be much, much, much better off going with the gyros here. The chicken was overcooked, dry, and pretty flavorless, making the souvlaki a bit disappointing. On the bright side, they did appear to use tzatziki sauce this time around (I'm guessing when I ordered the gyro last time, they just ran out of the sauce and substituted yogurt instead).

Let me just start off by saying that this place has the most frustrating hours of all time. No food past 3 PM and no food on the weekend. Pretty typical of the area, but annoying when you live across the street and you're really craving a Chicken Chipotle Wrap on a Saturday. That being said, if you want some quality lunch and friendly service, Kirbies is fantastic. The daily specials are usually pretty great, but not every day has that fantastic of a selection. The real secret is that you can order certain off-menu items (i.e. the aforementioned Chicken Chipotle Wrap) that are normally only on the specials menu, and not only will they make it for you, they will also give you the combo price with chips and pickle. A lot of people get excited about the gyros and fries (which are pretty good) but I think my three favorite menu items are the Cloak and Dagger, the Chicken Chipotle Wrap (obviously), and the White Russian. All told, excellent lunch spot and quick/friendly service. Also, make sure you get yourself a delicious Ravens Bird sandwich available every Purple Friday during football season!

I really do like Mrs Effie and crew. However, sometimes I feel that there is no consistency. Especially in the prices. I have never paid the same amount twice for the exact same thing. I don't know why the prices seem to fluctuate. The food here is ok but the location is very convenient if you work downtown.

I was enjoying my grits and cheese this morning until I got down to the bottom and there was mouse shit in my food!!!!!!!!! Took what was left of my food and the mouse shit over to Kirbies and was told that they don't have mouse shit in their restaurant. I told her that was mouse shit turn around and walked out.

Generous portions. Really good crab cake sandwich. Everything looks delicious on our table. Too bad they don't open for dinner.

Here's where the rating system kinda fails. In the entire continuum of restaurants, I give three stars...BUT in terms of just small local diners I would give four. The prices were reasonable ($11 for large omelet, hash brown, toast, coffee and a bottle of soda). And the food was VERY good. I had an omelet with gyro meat and feta --- yum! The place itself is a little grimy and small --- but it's what you expect for a diner. Give it a try!

Friendly staff. Descent food. Fair prices, crowded so call ahead. The chicken is overly dried out due to some city ordinance, or at least that's what they told me. The grilled chicken ceased wrap and the grilled chicken on Rosemary facaccia bread is excellent. Highly recommend.

The ambience is horrible and cafeteria style. I ordered the gyro the other reviewers recommended - it was disgusting. They used frozen pre-shaped flat sausages as the "gyro meat." The self-serve water they have was pink because it was mixed in with Hi-C (the fruit drink). Overall it was a revolting and overpriced experience. This place does NOT deserve four stars, and I would never return.

Like Koorosh said, Kirbie's is an awesome lunch time choice around the UMD med campus. They offer a large selection of sandwiches, subs, gyros, salads. You name it; they probably have it. The food portions are ginormous and very reasonably priced. You're pretty much guaranteed a food coma if you eat an entire lunch combo from here. They also have different lunch specials everyday. I tend to go for those because some of them come with the fries, which I can't resist. And if you're a breakfast sandwich person, they have the for less than $3! The business is family-owned and operated. Everyone who works there is super friendly. To avoid a really long wait, call your order in ahead of time, or go after 1pm.

this small sandwich/sub shop near the UMD med center is easily a diamond in the rough when it comes to baltimore's lunch joints. greek-family-owned so they make a lot of great Mediterranean food, but i'm continually suckered in by the awesome sandwiches and subs they make as well. reasonably priced specials and AMAZING french fries. best indicator that it's good is the line that stretches out the door at noon, every single weekday.

I've been coming here so long I remember when they used to have actual table service. This is THE Greasy Spoon amongst Greasy Spoons-- if you must clog your arteries, it's an honor and a pleasure to have the artery clogged by their grease. (And doctors CROWD this place- it's right by UMMS and VA Hospitals.) Greek specialies are a MUST-- Chicken souvlaki is my favorite; tasty, grilled, lemony chicken; TONS of thick, zesty real-yogurt tzatziki sauce; warm, soft pitas; lots of chopped onions and tomatoes; it's a huge, tasty, freakin' mess!! With lots of yummy, hot, crunchy crinkle fries...mmmmmm... Cheese steaks, gyros, burgers, grilled cheese, reubens....if it's greasy, you know it's going to be GOOD, hot, and cheap. Mmmmmm...... (And if you clutch your chest afterwards, hospital is right down the block! Yay!!)

I got the Tuna Melt. They were very quick to get my order out, and the place wasn't too loud as most lunch locations can be. The food itself was very well prepared and I am definitely a fan!

Only reviewing the teriyaki cheesesteak here so... Well it was kinda weird. HAHA. The teriyaki sauce had like no teriyaki flavor. The meat was crap quality. But it was satisfying for some reason. Maybe because it was after an exam and i was craving something greasy, and cheesy. But now that I think of it, it was pretty crappy compared to Ed's Teriyaki in Sunnyvale, CA. I haven't tried their gyro's so no comment yet....

(02/09/2011) This is a great place to get lunch if you're down by University of Maryland, the medical center. I got one of the daily specials, the "White Russian" sandwich (turkey, swiss, lettuce, tomato, coleslaw, Thousand Island dressing on whole wheat) with a bag of chips for $7.95. The place has an extensive menu of deli and grill items, and some less common items that you don't usually see in most Baltimore corner carryouts, such as the Buffalo Chicken Wrap in a spinach tortilla, or the tuna salad club. Kirbie's is friendly, efficient, fresh and reasonably priced. Great fries with Old Bay, too!

I was visiting my daughter in Baltimore, we stopped by Kirbie's for breakfast. We had eggs over easy plate. Service was quick, Food was good, "generous portions" is an understatement. Overall, I recommend them for breakfast, it's the only meal I've had.

Greek food is a fine melody of the finest pressed olive oil, fresh fermented bread, colorful vegetables, juicy meat, sea food all cooked in spices and fresh rosemary. The people from Greek were great scholars who aimed to excel in everything they do. The results are quite visible in their food as they are the inventors of olive oil which is beneficial to health. Greeks also made different type of wines from the best quality of grapes fermented in controlled environment.
Today, you can find hundreds of restaurants offering authentic Greek food or popularly termed as Mediterranean cuisine in New York city alone. People wait in line to taste the exotic Greek dishes like saganaki, taramasalata, souvlaki, loukoumades, spanakopita, moussaka, and many more. One thing which most people like about these authentic Greek dishes is abundant use of lemon juice, olive oil, fresh rosemary and sea salt. A smart mix of few ingredients can virtually take you on the pebble streets of beautiful city of Greece.
For those who don't have time to enjoy fine dining should try tasting the famous souvlaki with pita which is type of meat dish, also a trademark Greek fast food. For those who are vegetarian, or vegan can try different versions of Greek Salad. So, if you wish to enjoy a hearty yet healthy meal that tastes divine then try dining at the best Greek restaurant in your city. Greek cuisine not only tastes good but also help maintain your body in a natural way through healthy diet.
