We had a local Amazon deal and decided to check this place out on a Friday evening. The space is large and bright with Greek accents reminding me of a home in Greece. The crowd was sparse with middle age and older folks so we were on the younger end of the clientele. The hostess seemed like she was 9 years old but graciously lead us to the table and opened the menus for us. We ordered the grape leaves and shared a small salad. Both were good not great. I would order both again. My main course was the Mid East kabobs and my partner order the lamb something and both were very very good. The meat was tender and flavorful. The tzaziki sauce was amazing. Thick and full of garlic, it will linger in your mouth for a long time. One gripe was the service was a bit slow and here's the biggest kicker: my sides were green beans and carrots. Both of which were from a can. Place with such delicious meats served veggies from a can. Sad. Other than that the food and experience was good. I would return but not get the beans and carrots. Or the rice which was almost soggy.

From the start of our experience as a first timer to the restaurant, it was so-so. We stood there for a moment and nobody was there to greet us. I saw the bartender come around from the bar and graciously greeted and sat us. From there, the greatness just about ended. If you don't know Greek foid, the menu will be a little intimidating. Good description of what some of the items is lacking. We ordered a Greek salad to start. It seemed okay until I started finding wilted leaves. I started rummaging through the bowl and found a half inch of water on the bottom. Not a fresh salad at all. We asked to have a "fresh salad" and the server gladly took the old salad back to the kitchen. After waiting another 5 or so minutes, the server returned woth another salad. Again, the top part of the salad looked great but as we were earing the salad, we found more wilted leaves of lettuce and water on the bottom of the bowl. When our main entrees came out, we were disappointed. My husband ordered roasted leg of lamb. His expectations was lamb on the bone. Instead, it was 3 slices of meat which was okay. I ordered the chicken kabob plate. The rice was mushy and terrible tasting. On both plates, the vegetables were canned. Why would a restaurant serve canned veggies? Horrible! So the experience was not all that great and neither were the prices. Way to expensive for the crap that is served. No wonder this restaurant is always trying to sell Groupon deals. They are desperate for business. There was only 2 other tables present at 6pm. Being in Greektown, I'm sure there are far better places to eat than this place. It's dad because the place "looks" great.

Visited this restaurant for a conference. Oddly enough one of the presenters spoke about health. I'm pretty sure all of the attendees overate. The appetizers were amazing, lunch even more amazing. We are still here and I am certain I will a have to roll down the stairs once we are done. I am looking forward to the 15 minute break so I can walk around the block to work some of this off before they serve dessert. Do not enough for two days before visiting this restaurant. The staff are extremely friendly, seems like a family oriented restaurant. You don't find friendly staff with smiles on their faces everywhere you go. This is a must visit

I will have to say that after reading the reviews, I didn't have my hopes up too high for this place. We went for the murder mystery and it was fantastic. I will start with the negative, the food was not that good. They had the salads on the table which was just ok and they brought out the other food a little later. They also stuff a few more people than should be at a table. But that was about it for the negative. Now the positive, when we walked in the employees were already in character and they were funny. They kept the audience engaged and laughing. I know other people have said that they couldn't hear, but they now use a microphone so you can hear them clearly. Lots of improv and lots of audience participation. I think the audience will make or break this, so you want to make sure you are with a lively crew. I would definitely recommend this place to someone that wanted to try a murder mystery. The reason I took a star away was because of the food. Otherwise thumbs up!

Poor service, bland food. Samos is much better option. Sunday, restaurant mostly empty, more wait staff than diners and still no attention! The lamb kabob was as tender as beef jerky. The grilled octopus had the consistency of a boiled potato. Time has not been kind to this place. Obvious now why it was empty for lunch.

We used the groupon for 2 people and it's the murder mystery dinner. Friday @7, come 30mins early, and print out voucher. Bring cash for drinks etc. Okay so we walked in @6:30, took our mug shots ($20), and the guy will ask your lady name to check in (give him your voucher & food reservations via color piece of paper), and you'll be seated in a table w/others of about 8. So they go over the rules, it's all about 1950's, you eat your salad, kabobs, and dessert. All while getting up for your 2 or 3 investigation sessions to ask the "suspects" questions to solve the murder mystery. This was our first time, we got our drinks, we will definitely come back, it's something to get used to when your not a type of person to just walk up and question, but once you break the ice it's hell a fun!! It's on Eastern ave baltimore which is Greek town but nose you get in you'll sit at the bar until they take you upstairs to the main event. It's lovely for a groupon date night or group but I wouldn't pay full price. Only because the food needed flavoring, I like Greek food so if order the grape leaves , fish, something else besides the limited menu, but it's a nice event. We one the murder choice!! Mr. Coolstein the math teacher & got our pics Inside it reminds me of "double tee diner" if you've ever been but upstairs where we all sat was a big room w/a small bar & lots of seating. Like a mini banquet hall **The Show: Acting skills is not like your "High End Celebrity" acting skills, more so like a bunch of waiters/waitresses or outside routine stage help turned actor/actresses by memorizing a giant script. So it's low budget acting" Hope this helps your choice which I say get a groupon for this instead of full price :))

Bought a Groupon for a murder mystery dinner knowing that my life like mystery so I bought this for our date night out. I ordered the lamb and potatoes with a salad. My wife had the chicken string beans and potatoes with a salad. I think we were both disappointed in the portion of the meal. The portion of the meal was like somebody on a three hundred calorie diet. I enjoyed the murder mystery but I was thoroughly disappointed in the selection of the menu in which they only gave you two choice which was lamb or chicken. Another thing I did not care for is that this establishment wanted you to make your selection of what you wanted to eat when you made your reservation. I don't think I'll be visiting this establishment again.

The beans with tomatoes side dish was the best green beans I've ever had. Tender and just the right amount of seasoning. The rockfish was served whole but had a slightly fishy aftertaste.

We had a great time at Ikaros, but the experience was really mixed. Here are some highlights: + Tzatziki: Okay, it's hard to get this wrong, but it really was fabulous here. Thick, creamy yogurt spiked with garlic and cucumber: I could have eaten just that for dinner! + Saganaki: Again, if you have high-quality kassieri cheese, this one is a no-brainer, but I appreciated the flaming cognac, squeeze of lemon and story about that time our server accidentally set a tablecloth on fire. Pretty funny, and the cheese was delicious. + Mousaka: This is where Ikaros really earned its stars. The dish was a masterpiece. Tender, spiced ground beef and eggplant, creamy mashed potatoes, full-flavored marinara -- oh, my, it was amazing. And, for $16, it fed all three of us -- in fact, after our appetizers, we were uncomfortably full by the time we left. But that was really our fault. :) + Coffee: It was absolutely perfect. And although any good Greek knows how to make perfect Greek coffee, many places don't get it right. So, cheers to our server, who boiled it himself! The galaktoboureko (say that five times fast!) was good, too, though most Greek desserts are just too sweet for me. So why doesn't this place get four or five stars? Well, not everything was that great: - Wine: They have an extensive list, but were out of stock on our first two choices, so we wondered how much of the list was accurate. They kept trying to sell us on a California Zin. At a Greek restaurant! They claimed all the Greek wines were twice the price of what we had ordered. After a visit from the manager, we did eventually find one that worked, and it was delicious. - Bread: They brought us slightly-stale baguette. No thanks. We asked for pita, and they brought us steaming, toasted triangles that were perfect for dipping. Why is pita not the standard in a Greek restaurant?! - Salad: What sets Greek food apart is its impeccable freshness. Without that, you just have a plate of lackluster vegetables. The tomatoes here were awful, pink, mealy things. The cucumbers and peppers were okay. The feta and olives were quite good. The dressing was very understated -- so understated it almost didn't exist. - Crowd: A lot of older people talking rather loudly about personal matters. Thankfully, I was with family so we took it in stride and found it amusing. I would never want to bring a date or a business associate here, though! As I said, we enjoyed the experience overall, but there were too many missteps to put this place in my regular repertoire.

This place earned 1 star and not 0 stars for the following reasons: the place was open, the electricity was on, there were chairs and tables... WELP, that's it. If you are looking for more than that in a restaurant, then try another. We were there for the murder mystery (which was cute btw). We walked in, no one greeted us. We stood and waited - no one came. We walked to the bar, where we were ignored, so we decided to walk upstairs... and found our party. Some thoughts - The green beans are from a can, there's no denying it. Every person around me received their food 20 min before I received mine (vegetable kabob). The whole plate was drenched in oil. The service was horrible, inattentive and somewhat rude. Completely not worth it. We will not be going back.

I was surprised by the place really big, but not many people and old style charm and decor with photos of Greece hanging. got this off a reccomendation from a guy off the street, crazy how people can just strike up a conversation , when you are from the same town. it didnt dissapoint, the service was very friendly and the breast of lamb was succulent and very tender, it reminded me of a home cooked meal, not fancy, but heart warming and savory it wasnt cheap, entrees at 18$ or higher, but it is worth it, I was impressed with the server, very polite and helpful and he was Greek they also gave me a complimentary dessert, phylo with custard or something I love to find undiscovered places and it was a bit of a drive from inner harbour

Brought some out of town family last night, there were 5 of us total. Everything we had was delicious, and we had quite a variety, from fried mussels to moussaka to grape leaves, seafood dishes, lamb, etc. I wish I could remember the names of everything we had but I can't. The server was friendly, and we were given a complimentary desert, I have no idea why, but it was awesome. There was live music as well, a guy playing guitar and singing greek tunes. It was pleasant and he was quite good, but the volume was a little high for the room, making conversation difficult. I'll certainly be going back, and I know my out of town guests had a great time!

This is a terribly disappointing review for me to be writing but alas, it must be done. I have been going to Ikaros with my family for over 10 years for birthdays and just for a great meal but never again. I used to love their fresh calamari and other delicacies but never again. We were treated with the utmost of disrespect on our last visit. We were hassled from the minute we stepped inside. We had a reservation yet had to wait, then had to wait 20 minutes before we were even greeted by a server at our table, had to wait hours for our food to come after ordering (when is that EVER acceptable?) and then were not compensated for our inconveniences AT ALL. We spent 3 hours at the restaurant and were only hoping to spend 1.5 hours TOPS. Then on top of all the poor service, the management argued with us and blamed US for our food taking so long and their restaurant being unorganized. TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL and COMPLETELY RUDE will never, ever be going back.

Greektown has great food in general, and Ikaros isn't any different. We went in on a quiet Saturday afternoon for lunch, and first of all, may I comment about how great the interiors are done up? It makes you just want to experience Greek cuisine for all it's worth! The servers were also super friendly and nice, in addition! I tried the Beef Guvetsaki and it was good! The feta was top class and the beef was of good quality. My dad tried the crab cakes from the lunch menu - one of the best I've ever had and I wished I had ordered it too. My mother tried the beef moussaka and it was good, as well! The mavrodafni was delicious as well. So why only 4 stars? Because honestly speaking, I've tried better - less than a block down at Acropolis. Local gossip tells us that the owners/cooks of Acropolis used to be the cooks of Ikaros, from whom they gained their original reputation. Bottom line - Ikaros is great, but not phenomenal. Seafood dishes are better than meat dishes, as said by other Yelpers but the decor is really nice!

THE ONE STAR IS JUST FOR SERVICE. We are currently two bread baskets in and we had to steal one from the table next to us who were eating dessert. The food looks and smells absolutely amazing... We just haven't had any. Arrived at 815, currently 942. Help. Starving. Someone send takeout.

Came here on a Saturday night with some friends. We were not greeted by anyone when we walked in. Waited 10 mins to be seated even though there were servers that were just standing and staring at our faces. We did not get our waters till after 30-45 mins. Our server was not attentive at all. Tried to get the attention of other servers but they just ignored us. Very rude servers. After ordering food, food came out very bland. No taste at all. Some salt would've helped all the dishes we ordered. I've had Greek food before and I love it but this is far worst food we all had. I Am giving this place 2 starts just because the owner was very gracious and understanding when we brought it to his attention. He was apologetic and offered us free dessert.

We wanted to go to Samos, however it looks like they're closed on Sunday. We ended up here, the food was ok, and the portions were large but it was tremendously overpriced. It was way out of my price range, honestly, I really wasn't looking to spend $25 on lunch. I ended up with a salad because it was the cheapest option. Iceburg, hot house tomatoes, some cucs and dressing that tasted like it was from Olive Garden. Nothing special. It would have been nice to have lunch options, something to get new folks in the door and then we can work up to the expensive items. Alas, I'll have to try our original plan another day. Also, QUITE a few yelpers indicated their "surprise" dessert... perhaps you have to be greek to get it. We didn't get squat.

An excellent dining experience, with no negatives. All the food was wonderful and wonderfully spiced. Feta was appropriately creamy and had no store-bought sharpness to the flavor. The beef dishes were very tender and rich. Also excellent use of fillo dough throughout, thin and crispy in the right places, not soggy at all. Portion sizes were ridiculously large, and not a one of us finished our meal (all got take home boxes) Live, authentic, music during the dinner period added nicely to the atmosphere. We had a selection of appetizers and I didn't regret any of them. From the 3-4 that we had, I'd say you can't go wrong with any of them. We had a selection of cheese dishes and mussels. Wines were excellent, house Greek reds and whites, as well as a selection of other wines from various regions that we didn't try. Finally, I"m not sure if it's standard, because our bill was so high, or we are just that awesome (or our server was) but we got a complimentary dessert selection at the end, that was enough sweetness for all 5 of us. All were very well honeyed and excellent overall. If I hadn't been driving, I'd have asked for some Raki afterwards, as that was all that was missing to make me feel like I was back in Greece again (I spent 2 months there). I was very close to giving this restaurant 5 stars.

I bought tickets to the Murder Mystery dinner they have and was not at all impressed, the food looked like it was slopped on the plate and we were seated so far back from everything going on in the restaurant that 1. you couldn't hear a thing going on and 2. we couldn't see anything that was happening. Would I recommend this to any of my friends um...no! My husband and I have been to many many restaurants in Baltimore but will not be venturing back to this one. We were highly disappointed in the food and the experience.

Had the pleasure of finally trying this place last Friday with 3 other friends and I was completely wowed by the great food and good service from our waiter Paul. For starters we tried the saganaki, which is basically a broiled greek cheese with olive oil and oregano that cones to your table in flames. Which was absolutely delicious. Since it was Easter weekend, items that specifically came from the broiler was not available, so I had to settle for the lamb shishkebabs which were cooked to perfection. One of my friends opted for a whole rockfish, which you can hand pick and have it grilled to perfection. I tried a small piece and was wowed at how flaky and moist the fish turned out. I will be ordering a whole fish on my return. Another dish that you cannot go wrong with are the lamb chops and the roast leg of lamb. The roast leg of lamb is so tender you do not need a knife to cut it. Absolutely delicious. Now you cannot leave an authentic greek restaurant without trying any of the desserts, well we tried all three, the kataifi which is a shredded wheat stuffed with walnuts and special syrup, the baklava, which is the classic puffed pastry prepared with a delicious combo of walnuts, puffed pastry and special syrup and last but not least the galaktoboureko, which is a decadent honey dipped cream filled pastry shell. Reading the other reviews, my visit here was the total opposite. The food was absolutely delicious and our server Paul was very helpful with ordering authentic greek dishes. If you are ever in the Greektown area of the city, stop in and see Paul and the wonderful staff at Ikaros. It was really a pleasure eating here. Happy Eating Yelpers :)!!!!!

We were a large party of 23, with advance reservation. Service was TERRIBLE. We were assigned one server, main courses took over an hour to be served. We contemplated leaving, but felt badly after placing such a large order. Food was mehh..... If this is representative, I'm not surprised Greece is insolvent with 26% unemployment.....

Originally, I wasn't too sure about this place as the host wasn't that friendly. I'm all about customer service. It doesn't take much to smile and be nice. Almost nothing was open in Greek Town in Baltimore so we gave this place a try. First off, there's no seating area to wait. You kind of just crowd in the doorway and after dinner was done, you had to walk through all the people to get to the door. There was also fresh fish on display next to the entrance so it was like walking in the busy fish market... We had three kids with us and four adults so they seat us way in the back but that was fine by us. The server was accommodating and didn't seem to judge. The food: Traditional Greek Soup aka "Avgolemono" : velvety, creamy, smooth egg-lemon chicken stock and rice soup. Most of my party did not like this dish. But my 8 month old daughter and I really enjoyed it. It's sour though! Stuffed Grape Leaves with meat and rice: I've always wanted to try this and it was delicious! It's a very traditional greek dish. The leaves aren't tough but tender and the meat and rice is very flavorful! It was topped with egg-lemon sauce. We used it to dip the bread in. Pasta: we can't remember the name of this dish but we got it for the two older kids and they really enjoyed it. It had orzo pasta, tomato base, seafood and was quite tasty and soft (kids and adults would enjoy this dish!) Mid-Eastern Lamb Shishkebab: You can see the lamb rack in the rotisserie oven in the back of the restaurant so my party was intrigued. All the adults wanted to try the Lamb Shishkebab meal which comes with several huge chunks of lamb, rice, string beans and carrots. I was the only one that have had lamb so I warned them that lamb has a very distinct "game-y" flavor and taste. My husband who is very picky with lamb said that he'll try it but he never liked lamb. OMG! These were the BEST, TENDER, SUCCULENT LAMB KABOBS I've ever tasted. Everyone loved and raved about this dish. It did not have that strong smell and taste of lamb. Seriously, if you come here PLEASE try the lamb! It's absolutely amazing! I do have to warn you, it's slight fatty but I love me some fat so this was not a problem. Just when I thought the place and server were sick of our kids throwing spoons on the floor, the server bought us complimentary baklava at the end of the night. How sweet! Very good as well!

Being a yelper, i was scouting for something new in Baltimore area. I spotted a coupon on Groupon for this restaurant so I took a chance and bought it. I took my brother to dine in there with me and he was super hungry. I pacified him saying that we'll get an appetizer - so we did. I ordered the lentil soup (Fakes) priced at $4 and made to perfection. I enjoyed it more than the main course. My brother tasted a bit and agreed! :) Great job, you guys. We were both excited. My brother ordered cheese pies and they came late floating in oil. He had 3 pcs and said, i could easily become obese if he had it every day. We both had kebabs for entree and they came floating in butter too. It tasted fine though :) Our server offered us dessert (Baklava) on the house too, so service was good. Made up for the initial wait. However, i am not impressed given the price and quality of food. Service was friendly but a tad bit slow. It was worth the try. P.S - They do have a few options for vegetarians so do check out this place if you need vegetarian and want some greek food or just food in general.

I was pleasantly surprised by my meal at Ikaros! I was hesitant to try it, but the cooked octopus appetizer was FREAKING DELICIOUS. The chicken kabob platter could have used more seasoning, but I was happy about the large portion size ( = leftovers!). I'm knocking off a star because I think the service, while friendly, was a bit too slow. We went on/about Greek Independence Day, and they gave everyone free desserts [like Baklava]. They all contained gluten so I couldn't eat it, but it looked amazing, and my friends said it tasted that way too. Make a reservation to be safe, as the dining room fills up fast! Oh, and give yourself a little extra time to find street parking.

The food here is delicious. The greek salads were fresh, feta good, salad dressing tangy. My lamb chops were cooked perfectly--four large chops. The potatoes were seasoned well, the broccoli is simply steamed, but with all of the other flavors going on, steamed is OK. The service here is lacking, badly. And I will not say it is all of the servers that are in error---two were working their buns off, ours was eh. We walked in on a Sunday night, dining room half full, bar empty. We stood and waited, and waited....and waited. First one server came up to us and said, someone will be with you in a minute! Then another (with full plates of food in her hands) assured us that someone would come and help us. Who is someone? We probably stood there for 7 minutes before the hostess (who looked like she owned the place) moseyed on over and showed us to a table. Unacceptable, really. Our server was so/so. Our waters remained unfilled and our appetizer dishes left on the table until our main courses came out. Bread never refilled, olive oil (which was DELICIOUS) never replenished. Two of the other servers were coming around and clearing our plates--one even asked who our server was. I felt badly for them, working in that environment must be so frustrating. The dining room is pretty, the food is good. Where is the management? If the food wasn't delicious and servers (other than our own) caring about our experience, this would have turned into a 1-star review, quickly.

After recently reading "Middlesex," I really missed Detroit. Not because it paints a rosy picture of the city during its collapse in the 1970s, but because it depicts its Greektown in a way that made me long for *real* Greek food. By the time I grew up near the Motor City, Greektown in Detroit was a shell of its former self. But the food was still amazing. When I learned that Baltimore had a Greektown of its own, I was intrigued. And after a Red Sox game (at Camden Yards), I had to check out this neighborhood and this plaudited restaurant. An apt metaphor for how I ended up viewing this restaurant was how they served the saganaki. While it came to the table flaming, it was a small flame. And the server didn't even scream "opa!" I know the safety regulations in Maryland are tighter than they are in Michigan, but I missed the ceiling burning, celebratory fire that accompanied Greek food "back home." That's how I felt about the food here. It was all great, but nothing that put it over the top. For example, the spanokopita - a bargain as an appetizer since it's almost big enough to feed two people - started to pop in my mouth with its mixture of spinach and feta but then stopped. The same went for the veggie mousaka (which was surprisingly small compared to the giant appetizers). It would start to overwhelm my tastebuds with tomato goodness but then pull back. It was like everything here was a spice and zest tease. Like they tried to get it just exciting enough to entice, but not scare the tourists. The one exception was the veggie grape leaves which went all out with their spiced rice. Much like Detroit's Greektown, this place seems like a great place to stop after a game (and there were many Orioles fans there). But as a destination unto itself, besides its awesome atmosphere, I'm not sold on this restaurant. I want a Greek place with a bit more fire!

I have been coming here for years. The stuffed Grape Leaves with Egg Lemon Sauce Appetizer is to die for! You can order it as your entree with a large side salad for a complete meal. The only thing I wish to change about the restaurant is that it should update its decor and serve fresh vegetables on the side that are not over cooked. Will be back.

The good first: the beef, lamb & potato dishes were delicious, and fairly large portions. We were given a complimentary plate of baklava, custard & another similar dessert. The wait staff were very kind and efficient. The atmosphere is beautiful, and the bathrooms super clean and look newly renovated. The not so good: the vegetables are canned. For a 20 dollar entree, the vegetables should never, ever be canned. The octopus with rice is disgusting. I do not use that word lightly either: disgusting. This 21 dollar entree is literally canned octopus w/rice baked with a slab of feta. When she brought it to our table, I thought: wait. I didn't order hotdogs and rice. The texture and the odor - all of it bad. Do not order this dish. It turned out to be a $21 rice & cheese that still haunts me. The other dishes ordered at our table were good and we enjoyed them, but do not order the octopus. In short: while some of the dishes were delicious, this place is very over priced and I wouldn't recommend it. For us, it was over $100 meal for a family 4. Lamb shish kabobs with canned vegetables should not be a 19 dollar entree, and they shouldn't even serve the octopus for free.

I gave Ikaros another try and my opinion remains basically the same. If you're looking for the best Greek food in town stick with Samos, but Ikaros does offer a more pleasant atmosphere and friendlier service. The salad and main dishes that we tried this time around were good, unfortunately they came with vegetable side dishes that had been boiled to the point of being inedible. I really don't understand why they'd serve something like that. Clearly time and effort was put into the entree, serving it with peas that seem like they came from a can and were then cooked to oblivion just cheapens the whole experience. Prices seemed a little high but you are getting a lot of food. A salad and two entrees provided enough for two dinners plus a couple of lunches the next day. One nice little touch was that after our meal was done we got dessert on the house by surprise. Service was very good and the interior of the restaurant is attractive and pleasant. Overall we had a very good experience here except for the godawful vegetables.

Twice the Price of what this kind of quality and atmosphere should call for. I do not come to a Greek Restaurant to be presented with bland, food service purchased bread with low quality olive oil and seasoning as a welcome. (I expect great Pita) Moreover with the kind of prices being charged a wait staff in tattered polos doesn't cut it, white collars would be better suited. Save your time and money and head down the street to Samos. You won't be disappointed. I give them a 2 simply for the gorgeous interior and atmosphere.

I'm going to be frank on this one. I'm not a Greek lover (food, that is) but I'm always up for anything as long as the quality is good. However, this place was a pretty low blow to the culture. The food was horrible. It started with stale bread, which I'm pretty sure was Italian bread. It then middled with mediocre lamb and poorly fried calamari that tasted of cardboard. The best part of those two dishes were the sides, which consisted of CANNED green beans and other disappointments with tomatoes on top. The meal ended on a sickeningly sweet note: baklava that no man should eat. Ever. At least I think it was baklava or maybe it was a sour, gone-wrong cheese cake pastry thing. I really don't know. All I do know, is that after the meal, I wanted to rip out my stomach and buy a new one. For the ridiculous price of this place, no dish should consist of ANYTHING canned. That's just poor taste (pun intended). The reason why I gave it one star was for the service. They were nice and on game. Also, the dessert was on the house (for all tables). I'm not sure why every table had a dessert on the house, but I'm guessing it's due to their feeling bad for those that survived the dinner(s). I hate to give such negative reviews, but guys. Seriously...Don't go. You might die.

I first visited Ikaros restaurant in the 80's, so I might be a bit biased (nostalgia does count for something), but I do think it is one of the best places for Greek food in the country. You can get all the classic plates that you would find, say in one of the good places in Astoria, but in addition you get excellent fish options and, my favorite, the crab cakes. There are some plates like the braised lamb, the aforementioned crab cakes, the fyllo where you simply can't go wrong - you will love them, plus they come in generous portions. Ikaros moved one block down that street a while ago from the location I had visited since the 80's, but that is a good thing - the new place is much better and even allows you to sit at the bar.

Attended the 7pm show of The Murder Mystery Co. on 1/9/15 at Ikaros. There were ONLY 3 waitresses to serve the 150 patrons. I didn't received my entre until 15mins before the show started at 8:40pm, Therefore, I had to box up my food after 2 forkful to participate in the show. The salad and glass of water were already on the tables when we arrived. Judging from the melted ice and wilted lettuce, they had been placed on the tables for a long time. Not to mention the number of people who passed by them spreading germs. The waitress brought the food out with plates piled on top of each other. Thus, the plate of someone else's smashed your plate of food. The show itself was very long. The Murder Mystery people could have saved time by not taking 10mins to introduce each of the 10-15 characters. The detective of the show went around asking questions of the suspects. Often going to the same suspect several times for repeat questioning. It was suppose to be a 2hr show. We arrived at 6:45pm and didn't walk out the door until 10:10pm.

We went to Ikaros for the first time last night and wasn't impressed, just average Greek food. The Leg of lamb (boneless) was 6 very thinly sliced pieces of lamb with unseasoned potatoes and bland string beans with a few carrots. This dish was presented like a smaller portion of fall/winter pot roast instead of the normal Greek string beans with tomatoes and herbs. The Baklava was a tiny strip of over saturated honey instead of being light and airy. This baklava was dense, small, but had the flavors correct. The lemon soup my wife had was good in that the lemon did not overpower the rice in the soup. The restaurant was hot since they regained their power 1.5 hours before our visit. Instead of placing patrons in the room with the window air conditioner, we were place in a hot side room, which was nicely decorated, but a bit unpleasant. We felt bad that at 6:30pm, there were only us and 1 other couple on a Saturday night with about 8 servers doing close to nothing. The service was friendly, though a bit disorganized since there wasn't enough customers. I wish this restaurant the best and hope they reduce their staff to match their clients since it was a bit awkward having 6 staff people watching you eat.

The menu is very extensive. Offering every type of protein, from fish, to chicken, to shrimp, to lamb. There are also a wide array of authentic appetizers such as stuffed grape leaves with rice and ground beef, spinach pies, flaming cheese, calamari, babaganoush, and of course Greek salads. The babaganoush is absolutely sublime; rivaling anything I have ever had in my travels to Turkey and Israel. The Greek salad is a large portion of greens, tomato, cucumber, onion, Greek feta, and anchovies in a house-made dressing, also very delicious. The stuffed grape leaves will most likely be the slate to which you compare all other stuffed grape leaves to, they are that good. In terms of entrees, there are many options, but you would be crazy to choose anything other than lamb or fish. Every time I eat at Ikaros I order the whole broiled Sea Bass, a white, flaky, and juicy fish that is seasoned with sea salt, lemon, olive oil and dill. The fish is cooked whole, making the flavor very intense and savory. There are other offering of whole fish as well, including red snapper (seasonal), and rockfish. There are also many lamb dishes on the menu, ranging from chops, to lamb shank, to leg of lamb. I have tried the leg of lamb and the chops; both properly showcase the lamb in flavor and preparation. The lamb is always fresh and is served in larger portions, perfect for diners wanting a hearty meal. All entrees come with a choice of sides, varying from Greek style green beans in a thin red sauce, different preparations of potatoes, steamed broccoli, and rice. None of the sides are anything to write home about; fortunately the entrees are so delicious that no side is really even necessary. Ikaros also offers some traditional Greek pastries for desserts, such as baklava and other assorted filo treats. On a final note, Ikaros offers that home-style Greek charm in an affordable and comfortable setting. While I haven't tried everything on the menu yet, I can highly recommend the whole fish or anything lamb. Although Highlandtown/Greektown is probably a hike for most of you, you will no be disappointed with the food or the service.

This was our second time at Ikaros, and with the many other options for good Greek food in Baltimore, it will likely be our last. The service was abysmal, which was particularly galling considering there were all of four tables of customers in the restaurant on a Sunday at noon. We received passable bread and olive oil and our server took our drink order - two iced teas. Apparently no one had thought to brew any as it was a good 20 minutes before our weak teas arrived. And about 15 minutes waiting for the water guy to come around and provide our table and another of four with water. Meanwhile an older man (manager? owner?) seemed to stand around holding court but otherwise doing nothing. Our server disappeared for stretches at a time - one nearby table attempted to get her attention to no avail. The food was decent if not extraordinary - good Spanakopita, mediocre salad, passable Saganaki. The whole place just seemed like it was running on fumes, not really wanting to be there.

I was truly disappointed with my experience at Ikaros. I have heard mixed reviews but a neighbor and a Groupon convinced me to give it a try. First off, on the weekends you need to make reservations; it was packed. They are not very good about giving you a good waiting time estimate so just tell everyone 15-20 minutes. I saw a lot of patrons leave. Once we got seated 30 minutes later we were put right at the front door and had about 25 people standing over us as we were eating as well as cold air coming over us as the door opened. The two-man guitar players were playing right next to us and we were right next to the speaker; no chance for any dinner conversation. On to the food: I ordered the braised lamb which came with green beans. We also ordered the shrimp saganaki as an appetizer which didn't come out until the main course. My lovely date ordered the vegetarian grape leaves. My lamb was excellent but the green beans were definitely from a can and they tried to mask everything with the tomato and wine sauce. The shrimp was nothing special and really did not seem to be an authentic Greek dish. The grape leaves were decent but would have been dry and flavorless without the sauce. Overall the food was not worth the price. The service was terrible and we waited about 45 minutes from the time we finished eating until the time we paid our bill. The are under-staffed and under-trained in the waiting profession. Go to Zorba's or Samos instead; better food, service and staff.....cheaper too!

Great food, plenty of it! The sampler dinners seem to be the way to go, but be prepared for leftovers! The staff was very friendly and helpful, and was able to customize the plate for us (dietary restrictions). There was a bit of a wait and not much space to stand, but the food was worth it!

We recently tried this place out because of the living social deal. Overall, we enjoyed our experience. The service was very friendly and timely. We loved the tzatziki. Not big fans of the spanikopita though... a little too much spinach for our taste. We'd go back again.

I always order the vegetarian mousaka. It's my favorite dish here. It's a little pricey here and they don't offer gyros. It's a good place to go when Samo's is crowded.

Been coming to Icarus since 1979, and the service food and portions are excellent. Friday nights have music. Went for a birthday dinner and everything was great. Dolmas salad a crab cake and skewer of chicken. Awesome stewed fresh green brand and dessert. This place gives great portions and our service was fine. Great place and has been for a long time. Did I mention live music.

Wish Samos wasn't closed for vacation!!!! First and last time eating at Ikaros. What an awful experience! We walked in and stood at the doorway several minutes waiting for a hello .. Only to be told just a minute by three people in a nearly empty dining room. Finally Gino came over no welcome, greeting or a smile The food was awful, the grape leaves were loaded with burned rice, the pasticcio looked as if it came from a can. The waiter was mister invisible. Saw him three times ... Drinks, food, check. Didn't get a single refill. The place wasn't busy .. Still wondering where he went. Also of note, no waiter or waitress had a smile, they all looked as if they were being held hostage. Not to mention no one ever bussed tables. We sat with dirty dishes the whole meal. Couldn't wait to leave ... Thought we were in an episode of Restaraunt Stakeout.

I love Greek food and I love Samos in Baltimore. For awhile I have passed Ikaros on my way to Samos and thought I should try that place. A groupon appeared and I thought this is the best opportunity to try it without spending too much. Despite the discount it was not worth it. Me and my girlfriend ordered the calamari, the lamb with a gravy sauce, steamed veggies, Greek potatoes and rice. The Calamari was terrible and tasted like frozen breaded calmari you would get at a bad diner, The lamb was stringy and really fatty (honestly dog food quality.) The veggies tasted canned and were over cooked, The potatoes tasted good but were cold and the rice was...rice. Go to Samos, its cheaper and delicious.

Ikaros has a new location, and the rooms are lovely. Many things have unfortunately NOT changed: 1. The menu has been the same for 35 years, 2. The maître 'd (owner?) remains aloof and strangely disassociated from his patrons. 3. I had to ask for menus, twice, and when the man at the glorious rotisserie stepped away from his station to try to be helpful, the head waiter shooed him back into position, twice! I wound up walking to the front door to collect menus on my own. 4. The service remains chaotic, with long delays for everything from water, to ordering, to delivery of drinks. 5. The "vegetables" were extraordinarily unimaginative, obviously came out of cans, and clearly had been boiled days prior to our visit. 6. I asked for my lamb chops to be cooked simply, and they came slathered in salt and something that I hope was pepper. I also now know to not request that they "be cooked as the chef thinks best," because mine were terribly overdone. It's actually hard to make lamb look gray. 6. Even the bread was pasty, with a completely inadequate crust, which is shameful in a town with as many good bakeries as Baltimore has (and I do NOT mean the terrible bread from H&S). The wine list is actually pretty decent. Two-thirds of the selections were disastrously over-priced, but a little study will get you reasonable choices, like a 2010 Kir Yianni (where the Xinomavro manages to overwhelm both the insipid Syrah grapes and the dreaded Merlot tinteur) for "only" $36 per bottle. Finally, a tab of close to $200.00 for dinner for four, with two non drinkers and one participant not having an appetizer (and no ordered desserts for anyone), seems excessive to this ex-resident of Greece. It's hard to compensate for low quality with huge portions. This place will likely appeal to gourmands rather than gourmets.

The new location and decor are a wonderful upgrade from the aging Ikaros on Eastern Ave. The skewered lamb in wine sauce is excellent! The crisp-fried calamari entree is NOT the frozen, pre-breaded stuff. We have ordered it on two occasions, and it was the real thing--freshly deep fried and crisp-tender. Don't forget to douse it with the lemon wedge provided. And do try to meet the owner, Xenos. He truly is an enchanting and beautiful man; a gifted artist with a twinkle in his eye.

We decided to re-visit Ikaros after reading a very favorable review by a local columnist who extolled the new location of this establishment and the availability of rotisserie-prepared food. Upon arriving for our 7:00 PM reservation on a recent Saturday night, we found several parking spaces available less than one block away. To ensure fairly prompt seating, I would advise you to make an advance reservation online and bring a paper copy with you to hand to the hostess. We found the entry way to be very crowded and busy. There is no place to sit while waiting. The adjoining bar area was packed. The lighting was cheerful and the staff friendly. The noise level was moderately high and exacerbated by a number of musicians who were performing pretty close to our table. The lamb dish that I ordered was plentiful and tasty--albeit somewhat fatty. My friend enjoyed her shrimp and pasta. The cabernet was, "Okay but not great." The prices were very reasonable. Midway through our meal, management decided to set up a nearby table for a party of six. They were seated almost on top of us, which detracted from the privacy and intimacy of the moment. We were, however, given a complimentary pastry-type dessert but aren't sure exactly why. All in all, I would recommend Ikaros to family and friends who might enjoy an ethnic meal in a pleasant and unpretentious environment. Be prepared for crowds on weekends and remember to follow my advice about advance reservations.

We are long time customers of Ikaros, and over the decades maaaaany a great meal were shared bu family and friends- meats, seafood and their great desserts! Fast forward to new location and anticipation, we have been there three times, with two very good dinners. The last was during the week which was painful from the food to its presentation, and the waitress left a lot to be desired. We are hopefully chalking it up to the new location and a transition period from many aspects. We especially love the traditional Easter dinner and anticipate seeing the owners.

Quaint Greek place with excellent service. The bread and salad were quite good, and the seafood entrees were solid. The vegetables I ordered (endives and peas/carrots) were cooked to within an inch of their life though, almost inedible.

Always good greek food. Pretty much anywhere on this block is good Greek but this place has been there the longest. The reason is the food. Fresh and tasty and friendly servers. I prefer here over zorbas only because of the diversity of the menu. Zorbas is better for grilled meats but Ikaros is a better dining experience. The house Greek white is an acquired taste do try before you buy.

I found this place based on the recommendation from a Greek person. The food at Ikaros is superb! The waiter who seated us is such a gentleman and very warmhearted person. I am not a huge fan of lamb or red meat, so I ordered the Greek salad, octopus and string beans on the menu. They are unbelievably tasty and fresh! The Greek salad is a must try - it has the best feta cheese I've ever had and the dressing is fantastic (the dressing is actually made by the waiter himself)! The best comes to the last - they gave us an assorted version of authentic Greek desserts, on the house. Their baklava is to die for - you must have it with a cup of coffee, it is heaven!! Their price is very reasonable and since there is a lot of food on the plate, I bring back the rest for another meal. I am glad I found this place in Baltimore.

Hmmm.... If I could give a place 4.5 stars I would. Recently my wife and I and my in-laws and some friends went for dinner and a murder mystery dinner theater at Ikaros We drove with the in-laws and we were way early so went to the bar to have a drink and perhaps some appetizers. The place smelled divine, something good was cooking and it drove all of us nuts. Apparently Saturday night is grill a lamb on a spit night - how wonderful that sounded so we ordered a grilled lamb dinner with roasted potatoes. The four of us split it and I cannot tell you how great it was. Good thing there was a limited amount or we would have hurt ourselves. Next we split a roasted octopus appetizer. That was not universally loved, but if you enjoy seafood you would have enjoyed this. It was tender and flavorful. The barkeep was wonderful company and explained the different dishes Ikaros had to offer. He was especially proud of the eggplant and even brought us a complimentary tasting - it was awesome. This from someone who does not care for eggplant..... If I had to rate the Ikaros just on this the rating would be 6 stars but... When the time came we went to the dinner theater. Not ever having gone to one I can say this was a fun event. The actors worked hard and made it an enjoyable evening. The room was full and a lot of people where there but the wait staff was understaffed however they worked their butts off and it all worked out. But now here is the thing, the food was, well OK. I understand this, trying to feed a huge crown is NOT easy and the quality just won't be the same. If I had to rate the food it would have been 2-3 stars. I was happy to have had the food earlier because the food here was not as impressive sad to say. I really want to go back again, on a Saturday, and have that lamb with roasted potatoes. Heck, I may even order a second helping...

This restaurant has been a family favorite since the 1970s! We always come back here for special occasions and to treat out of town visitors. I have never had a bad dish here, and over the years I have tried many. We love the salad (with lettuce) and all of the appetizers. Some of the main dish favorites are lamb with string beans, the crab cakes, and Moussaka. Again, these are just favorites -- we like all of their food. (Always get the string beans with tomatoes no matter what you choose as a main dish!) We almost always bring home part of our dinner (unless we share main courses) because the servings are very nice sized. Service has always been impeccable at Ikaros.

A little piece of Ikaria in the midst of Baltimore :) +s Appetizers are the real thing... loved the eggplant salad & the tzatziki Soups are definitely worth trying Entrees are traditional, so don't expect the typical Greek fast food! Service is very nice Decoration and music make you fell right in Greece! -s Portions are huge. For dinner, you can do with a single appetizer! But be prepared for the dragon breath... it's long lasting! Tip: Try to speak with the owner. He is an enchanting, beautiful, friendly man! Check out too his photographs on the walls. There's is definitely more to this restaurant than what meets the eye!

I finally broke the seal on Greektown digs by dropping in at Ikaros last Sunday. Came here with moms and pops and made the right choice. We were greeted at the door with a smile and lead to a nice 4 seater in a room filled with what looked like huge blown up photos from a 1965 National Geographic issue on Greece. This place has not been updated in years and I don't care because, really, if it ain't broke don't fix it. The menu stated that they've had the same chef since 1969. For the nouvelle Yelper this could be a downer but for the tried and true locals this is probably just the stability and tradition that a neighborhood like Greektown thrives on. Service here was top notch. Our water glasses were never half empty as water boys were on the spot all day. Thank you. I ordered the braised lamb and was not disappointed. Full of flavor and 2 sides. Moms got the stuffed zucchini. I saw this on the menu and said: "uh...no" but once I tried some it was hands down the best dish of the day. The lemon based sauce covering the zucchini was ladled down directly from Mt. Olympus. And it was good. Once we were done with out meal the waiter came around and said "Stick around, you got dessert coming". What? Really? Yea, we didn't see it on the menu but out meal came with dessert. Waiter brought out a plate of baklava and lemon custard. Oh man! Let me repeat. Oh man!! The lemon custard had us all moaning and squirming in our chairs. Nobody wants to hear their parents moaning with delight in public (or anyplace else for that matter) but this was an exception. Yay! I'm a fan.

Needed dinner on the way back from DC to Philly, randomly found this Greektown right off I-95 and went into Ikaros. No regrets about the choice. This was Easter sunday and the food was great and the Easter specials were delicious. Appetizer portions were of perfect size, and we took much of our entrees with us as they were huge and very tasty. Most of all, the service matched the food. It was fast, courteous and always timely.

Friendly staff, good house salad dressing-lemon/dill/olive oil/salt/garlic I think. We got the dinner entree beef kabob, the beef was dried out, but the sauce was good. The portion was enough for both my husband and I to share for dinner. The menu had some tempting items, so I'd like to go back. Next time I'll eat at the restaurant rather than take out. The ambiance there is pretty romantic in a 1980's sort of way.

Oh man if u don't like greek food do not post reviews on yelp to lower a restaurant's rating and u are just an ignorant stupid yelper. I just left Ikaros and let me say if there is something more authentic than my mothers I n law food in Maryland is this awesome restaurant. We even had pastries to go for my greek mother in law who looooovvveees this place , they opened 42 years ago. My hubby use to come here when he was seven with his parents and they kept on coming since. Owner is the same and he is a nice gentleman always watching over his costumers. We ate stewed octopus witch was great. The calamari is to die for. The kefalograviera flambe cheese none to compare to. The greek salad ...oh myyy god. With some santorini white wine just the bomb. Last but not least greek coffee with kadaifi, galactobouriko (the one that the yelper said it was like sour pastry gone wrong) and baklava. To give this girl some insight on greek pastries galactobouriko is a filo dough with custard in the middle with syrup and lemon (that is y is sort of sour). So my hubby and my greek mother in law loves this place for its authenticity if u don't like authentic go a grab a gyro from any other place none greek and maybe then u lady will like the americanized version of greek food. But please be less ignorant and go rate what u know better. I hate yelpers that say at very first that they don't like the particular style of food but they will still review the place. Its and old place and restrooms need update but when it comes to greek food I wish could give them ten stars.

Its a little bit soured for me. And the meat ball pasta is good. but the lamb my bf ordered did not seem really good.

Oh my, I had a feeling it was going to be good, but not this good. Very surprised how nice it was inside Ikaros, borderline "dressy" (polo, khakis). But no problems with casual. We went on a Sunday, because Samos was closed. Parking was right across the street, but seemed mostly for the bank. Either way, parking is easily found if you can parallel park. We were started out on bread, then I ordered some Saganaki, or flaming cheese. Wonderful presentation. It was lit on fire in front of you, and put out with lemon. Next up, 2 Souvlaki Gyros, which were served as a platter with fries, essentially open faced. Lastly, we ordered Baklava, and were given a 2nd dessert on the house! It was a fluffy custard pastry soaked in honey. GET THIS! It was amazing. They call it Galaktoboureko. A real mouthful. The baklava was good as well, but I would order the former again next time. The gyro was excellent, the pita was thick but not too thick, the souvlaki was tender and full of flavor but not greasy... and what really makes a gyro special for me... the tzatiki was perfect. Not runny, reasonably thick, but not goopy.. perfectly dippable/spreadable. My only recommendation would have been more of a cucumber flavor. It was subtle yet noticeable, which I will say did leave more room for flavor from the souvlaki. Its a nice balance. We ate all that, plus 2 drinks for 35.00. Yep, under 40 for appetizer, 2 meals, 2 drinks, and a dessert (one was on the house). For the amount of food, I feel like I would have paid 45 somewhere else. Next time I'll try Samos, but I would never hesitate to stop at Ikaros if they have a line longer than I'm prepared for. And if I never get to try it- well I'm content with Ikaros to live with that.

First, to all the people that have been coming here for years, I doubt this is the same quality place that you had years ago. After living in Chicago and eating in Greek town almost monthly, we were excited to try a highly rated place by fellow yelpers. Sadly, our experience was more like Brian A and Devonshire Bs. In order of our experience: - We arrived at 6:30pm to a 1/2 packed place. We stood at the front waiting for almost 10 minutes. No one said a word to us. We finally had to stop a server and ask for a table. - When we sat at our table, the couple next to us said, that the people who were there before us waiting 15 minutes for a server before walking out. - We ordered the house special greek salad, octopus in red wine sauce, orange roughy and my wife had the meat and veggie Mousaka After 1 bite of the octopus, we realized it was bad. An awful stale fish smell that stayed on our pallets pretty much through dinner. My wife was swishing her wine in her mouth to get the taste out. Our entrees came and no salad... when asked our server said she forgot it. The salad was good, but nothing that you can't make at home. The orange roughy was good (hence the 1 star). light, delicate, sweet and quite tasty. The sides were fair (greek potatoes, overcooked peas and carrots). My wife's Mousaka was average, at best. - Our server never came by to refill our waters, which was quite annoying considering the lasting octopus taste that wouldn't go away, even now 4+ hours later. We told the server about a groupon and handed it to her before asking for the check. When the check came, the groupon wasn't on there. When I asked her about she said what groupon... I said the one in your hand. With that, I then asked to have the octopus removed from the bill, as we didn't eat it and it was not edible. With a disgusted look, she asked the manager. The only saving grace here, is that the Manager couldn't have been nicer. As far as Greek food in Baltimore, there has to be better... or else I'm moving back to Chicago.

the only other place i've been to in baltimore's greektown is Zorba's Bar & Grill and I must say I thought Ikaros was far better. Taking advice from other yelpers, we decided to stick with the appetizers and ended up going with the flaming greek cheese (Saganaki), the spinach and feta cheese pie (spanokopita), and the Mousaka. all three were delicious and the spanokopita was nothing like ive had before... amazing! the service was fantastic, they made me feel like ive been going there for years. i cant wait to go back and explore the rest of the menu!

One of the best Greek restaurants I have been to in Baltimore, always a treat. Heavenly deserts. The owners are great and the staff is nice. My best friend is Ikarian, so it does not get any better than this unless you are in her Ya Ya's kitchen.

Several friends and I went to Ikaros to check out the new restaurant. The food was basic good Greek food but I must say that the actual interior of the restaurant was beautiful. They put in a lot of work with the decor, new bar and overall atmosphere. The servers were good and attentive and the owner came to our table and asked how everything was. Again, the food was good but not mom's cooking! Deserts were on the house which was nice. Would definitely go back agin.

Came to Ikaros for the first time last night. I don't have too much experience with Greek food but I was totally blown away by how delicious everything was. Started things off with sliced crusty bread and olive oil for dipping. The oil was fantastic and wasn't overpowered by its spices. It was very rich and olive-y tasting and was a nice change from all of the salty, garlicky oils I'm used to from Italian restaurants. I ordered the (beef) moussaka and my boyfriend had lamb with green beans and tomatoes and broccoli. My moussaka was incredible. Very warm and filling. I didn't try my boyfriend's lamb but he described it as very tender. I did steal some of his green beans and I must say, they were simple but awesome. I really want to try serving them with tomatoes at home. His broccoli came out as a whole small crown with a wedge of lemon. Looked pretty cool, and much better than the normal chopped and mushy stuff that often comes as a side dish. The portions were huge and just as we commented on how full we were the complimentary dessert came out: a smallish piece of baklava and a generous piece of galatoboureko. I nearly fell out of my chair over the baklava, it was so sweet. Once I recovered from the super sweetness of it I was able to enjoy the nice nuttiness of it. The galatoboureko was very good. I've never had it before but I certainly enjoyed it. I've lived in the city for 5 years now and if not for Living Social I probably would not have made a point to come and check the place out. Now that I know how awesome it is, I will definitely be back to try the flaming cheese, shishkebabs, pastitsio, and if I'm there at lunch, a gyro.

We were going to go to Samos for my birthday but the line was forever so we went around the corner to Ikaros. I had never been there. We had a party of 4. No wait. The dining room is pleasant and decorated in a Greek style befiiting the ethnicity of the restaurant. We were seated and waited for a waitress to come and take our drink order. We waited...and waited. Finally, she shows up. Comes back to set silver on the table, reaches across the front of 2 of us to do so. Finally, brings drinks, takes our food order. And we waited... Took forever to get dinner. Then the waitress disappeared, again. Never came back to check on us. Had to flag her down. Oh, you get the picture... the service was just plain awful. At the end we asked several times to a container for leftovers and she finally came and threw it on the table where it proceeded to bounce onto the floor. Kind of a nightmare. The food, you ask? Oh, yes, it was pretty good. Roasted lamb came with vegetable medley and roasted potatoes. Nice portion, meat was tender but a bit bland. Steak shish kabob got a good report, as did the stuffed grape leaves and lemon soup. Couldl not tell you about desserts. We had been there so long we could hardly wait to leave. Maybe next time. Nah, won't be a next time.

Samos was closed so we tried Ikaros. Later I learned that Samos is more snack food and Ikaros is more dinner food! Ikaros however was pretty good. The appetizers were the best part of the meal. We loved the tzatziki (but I thought having to pay for pitas was strange - order about 3 and you'll be good). The spinch pies and cheese pies were Amazing!! I think I could eat just those and be happy! The Greek salad was made even better with a huge slab of feta on top. And my husband tried some lemon soup that was quite interesting. The meals were fine - beef gvetski (sp?) and lamb gvetski were good but somewhat bland - the meat was tender though. The mousakka and pastiticio were both tasty - huge portions too. Baklava was decent. Service was pretty good - server was friendly and the manager or owner also stopped by. This place seems very authentic - lots of Greek people eating there on Saturday night when we were there! Next time I want to try the whole fish since that looked good! I recommend the appetizers since they all seemed home-made and fresh. The main meals were still good but got a little pricey. By the way, for dinner Saturday night they did not have gyros or soulvaki on the menu so be prepared to spend quite a bit of money - we spent $160 for 4 people including house Greek red wine. I would go back though!

Samos' loss was Ikaros' gain, which eventually became my loss, and therefore, Samos wins. I've completely confused myself. We tried to meet up w/ some friends at one of our fave Greek joints: Samos, and w/ the economy the way it is, we figured it shouldn't be too tough getting a table at 7pm on a Saturday. We ran into the harsh realization that Samos is recession proof--I wonder if they're publicly traded?--because it was an absolute cluster. Probably a good 2 hour wait. There was even a sign noting that they weren't accepting takeout orders. Being in Baltimore's Little Athens, there are other Greek options, and we decided on Ikaros. As we enter, we see good sign #1) several Zagat Rated* stickers in the window. We then see good sign #2) the restaurant isn't completely empty, though there was absolutely no wait. We then see good sign #3) FLAMES! Reading Yelp reviews much later, I learned that it was the flaming cheese. Speaking of Yelp, since we were with friends we hadn't seen in a while and were busy catching up, I didn't have a chance to read through Yelp reviews on my phone. The moral of the story is: when confused about options at a new restaurant, grab your stomach like you've got the most dire case of the runs ever and excuse yourself to the bathroom and read through reviews. Dropping trow and sitting on the can optional. Food - Had we read Yelp, we would've stuck w/ the appetizers and our experience would've likely been significantly better. Bad sign #1) I looked over the menu 5 or 6 times and nothing really called my name and said, "Eat me!" Bad sign #2) they had as many items on the Specials menu as they did on the regular menu. Bad sign #3) after being intent on dining at Samos, I was seriously fiending for some gyro. Not on the menu. Bad sign #4) the homemade tzatziki was served w/ regular old bread. For $4.95 for a decent-sized plate, I'd hope they'd serve it w/ pita. Nope. $1.50 per piece! Warning: the tzatziki causes serious dragon breath. Hope you brought some mints. After mulling over the menu for quite a while--and seriously hating on Samos for being so crowded and offering warm pitas AND delicious gyros--and feeling as indecisive as a first time double-dutcher, I finally settled on the Beef Tas Kebab. It was the slightly Greek version of pot roast served w/ meeh rice and even more meeh vegetables. The beef was ok, but nothing special for nearly $15. The wife ordered the moussaka (a.k.a., moose kaka for those that watched My Big Fat Greek Wedding), which was about $12, and that's the only reason this review is 3 stars. This moose kaka was the biggest moose crap I've ever seen in my life. In fact, it looked like Italy's largest slice of lasagna. It was a -really- heavy and rich dish, and it can easily shared by two people. Delicious enough to make up for having to eat tzatziki w/ regular ole bread. A warning for the health conscious: a pool of oil will likely gather on the edges of the plate; a good sign for fatties. The baklava ($2) was soaked in honey. I prefer my baklava w/ a dash of honey b/c what's the point of a flaky crust if you make it all soggy? Location - this place is huge! The servers are dressed in these cute Greek tunic looking things. Check out their website intro! It's wild! ( ikarosrestaurant.com ) To be honest, the entire time I was writing this review, I was dreaming about Samos. But that's not to say Ikaros doesn't have its merits. If Samos is packed, Ikaros is a good emergency date/fill-in. Just stick w/ the appetizers and mousaka and I think you'll really enjoy this place. OPA! End Note: On our walk back to the car, we actually tried to stop-in at Samos and grab a gyro to-go, but we were now greeted w/ not only the No More Take Out sign, but a We Are No Longer Seating Tonight sign as well. * Zagat now means absolutely nothing to me. It's like a completely useless/obsolete source of information such as the hardcopy Yellowpages or Yahoo search.

I used to come to Ikaros with my friend Laini who passed away last November. This weekend I went here with Laini's parents. It was bittersweet remembering all the good times I had with Laini here, but it was nice to be here with her parents. Ikaros has the BEST spanakopita I have ever had. Their bread is perfect. The tsatsiki is good, but I prefer mine to be more garlicky. Clearly the family that runs this place knows what they are doing since it's been around so long and it seems they are surviving even in today's economic slump.

They're worth 4.5 at the least IMO. Compared to couple other Greek restaurants I've been to in the area, this one tops them since everything I ordered there were fresh as well as perfect on the seasoning, taste, and texture. Maybe it's because those couple times I've been there I was about the only diner on a Sunday and weekday night.

I was pleasantly surprised with the size of Ikaros and to see a dining room full of local greek people when I walked in, which is normally a good sign. The stuffed grape leaves, cheese pies, greek salad, baby lamb and the octopus with a massive hunk of toasted feta were PERFECT. The crabcake was creamy with an interesting twist that I really liked and there is no doubt in my mind that I will be back for more. The desserts were so good that even though everyone thought they could eat no more, they disappeared quickly. Highly recommend to anyone interested in tasting some really great food.

Just like others have written here, I went to Ikaros because I was hunting for a greek restaurant on a Sunday when Samos is closed. And again I was very satisfied with their food. This has a good dinner menu. We loved their appetizers especially the eggplant salad and grape leaves. The portions are very good and you will definitely have left overs to carry with you. The staff was very friendly and the waitress did a good job of suggesting us their specialties. And finally the icing on the cake was the desserts which was on the house.

I think this is my first authentic Greek meal. I never knew I liked Greek food until I tried this place. Shared a meal loved the grape leave appetizers and greek salad. The Moussaka was delicious. For the dessert place, wasn't a huge fan of the baklava because it was too sweet and soaked in syrup. However, the custard was great. Will definitely explore more Greek food after this yummy meal. Only caveat is service is quite slow, waittress seemed kind of overwhelmed when we were there.

Been going here since I was a wee lad. The food has always been great, including the lemon soup, grape leaves, spanikopita, and moussaka for the appetizers. I've gotten the Mid-eastern Schiskabobs (lamb) and the chicken schiskabobs and each are very tasty, tender, and juicy. Normally I don't eat alot of veggies, but the green peppers & onions with the meat are fantastic. The waiters & waitresses are very nice, and refill water or leave a pitcher with the table quickly too. Parking can be annoying, but this is Eastern Ave...be careful at night.

The way to eat at Ikaros is to skip the entrees completely and just meze your brains out. You can't go wrong with the avegelemono soup, village salad, and ginormous stuffed grape leaves. After that, it's up to you whether you want spinach pie, cheese pies, flaming cheese or any of the other appetizer offerings. You can fill the table up with them, stuff yourself silly, and still pay less than you would for one lamb entree.

OK Greek fare, but not the best that Greek town has to offer. The best is Samos, around the corner - skip Ikaros and head there, you won't regret it!

Greek food is a fine melody of the finest pressed olive oil, fresh fermented bread, colorful vegetables, juicy meat, sea food all cooked in spices and fresh rosemary. The people from Greek were great scholars who aimed to excel in everything they do. The results are quite visible in their food as they are the inventors of olive oil which is beneficial to health. Greeks also made different type of wines from the best quality of grapes fermented in controlled environment.
Today, you can find hundreds of restaurants offering authentic Greek food or popularly termed as Mediterranean cuisine in New York city alone. People wait in line to taste the exotic Greek dishes like saganaki, taramasalata, souvlaki, loukoumades, spanakopita, moussaka, and many more. One thing which most people like about these authentic Greek dishes is abundant use of lemon juice, olive oil, fresh rosemary and sea salt. A smart mix of few ingredients can virtually take you on the pebble streets of beautiful city of Greece.
For those who don't have time to enjoy fine dining should try tasting the famous souvlaki with pita which is type of meat dish, also a trademark Greek fast food. For those who are vegetarian, or vegan can try different versions of Greek Salad. So, if you wish to enjoy a hearty yet healthy meal that tastes divine then try dining at the best Greek restaurant in your city. Greek cuisine not only tastes good but also help maintain your body in a natural way through healthy diet.

Food was very good. Not the best I have had but very good. Service was ok but not super attentive. I would recommend it. Very quiet atmosphere. Not many people here but it is a Monday.

I live in DC but would drive out to Baltimore to eat here anytime I'm craving original Greek food. Always excellent service and delicious food!
(5)Charles B.
(4)Sondra H.

Should have listened to other peoples review, order seafood dish. My friend ordered the crab cakes. It's delicious and huge!!! Their whole fish also look good. I ordered lamb, its okay not particular better than other restaurants. A little bit too dry

Canned green beans, gloppy rice, anybody who mentions this in same breath as Samos is insane

The calamari... omg, delicious! The lamb chops.... omg, perfect! The bottle of greek wine... omg, no more already? Great place for quiet dinner date with that special someone. The service was friendly and prompt. The food was fantastic.

Being half Greek this place is not that bad. Salad dressing is delicious, Appetizers were decent. Entrées tasted good but lacked finesse, Canned green beans and carrots come on people! Service wasn't bad even though we were the ones in the restaurant. Overall the experience was okay But with so many other great Greek restaurants around I choose another

(4)Chosei K.

(2)Marianne K.

(4)Sarah G.
Quaint Greek place with excellent service. The bread and salad were quite good, and the seafood entrees were solid. The vegetables I ordered (endives and peas/carrots) were cooked to within an inch of their life though, almost inedible.
(4)Nick B.
(4)Yishin S.

(5)Angelica G.

We went there because I bought a deal on living social. The service is really good. We ordered the grape leaf. its not kinda food I will usually order we just wanted to try something new. Its a little bit soured for me. And the meat ball pasta is good. but the lamb my bf ordered did not seem really good.

A long time Baltimore restaurant popular with locals. Good basic Greek cooking. Large portions, moderately priced. If you're looking for a haute experience, look elsewhere.

(4)Daniel B.
(4)Kathy T.
(4)Kathryn E.
OK Greek fare, but not the best that Greek town has to offer. The best is Samos, around the corner - skip Ikaros and head there, you won't regret it!
