Hands down (and hand-made), the best bakery Baltimore has to offer. Only pitfall: No coffee, but swing by the Highlandtown Gallery across the street for a cup.

Popped in while I was taking my dog for a walk as I have the biggest weakness for doughnuts. Got a GIANT chocolate eclair ($2) for myself and a glazed doughnut for the fiancé. Prices are great especially considering the quality and size of my delicious treat! It was double the size of a normal eclair and filled with sweet, but not sickeningly so, custard. The top was smothered in chocolate and the pastry was light and crisp. In short, it was perfect! I was one happy girl scarfing down my giant desert. I had planned to eat half and then the other half later but it was so good I finished it without thinking. The bakery is now closed but I'm planning on returning when they next open! My fiancé really enjoyed his doughnut as well. I think I'm going to have to try the fresh peach cake next time (along with another eclair)!

So good! Peach cake heaven. The lightest cheesecake from heaven! It's all so good and made perfect.

I stand corrected. I think that I'm just not a fan of yeast doughnuts and the first time, I got a yeast doughnut. I decided to try them again, but this time, got a plain chocolate cake doughnut and it hit the spot! The consistency was great -- dense, chewy, with a little bit of crunch. Not too sweet either.

I wonder is "Hoehn's" is a bastardization spelling of Baltimore's famous vernacular of "Hun". Pondering aside, Hoehn's Bakery gets a five-star from me not because the baked good are the very best I've ever tasted (although it IS very good) but because of: 1) Unique long established bakery with a history 2) They bake their own goods on site 3) Prices are ridiculously low 4) Yummy fresh goodness in every bite 5) They take credit cards They serve donuts, danishes, peach cake, pizza buns, breads and other deliciousness. The counter girls were nice enough to me the last few times I stopped by. I make it an effort to come here as often as I can since you only live once.

I've lived down the street from Hoehn's for over a year and I am literally trying to find a solid reason why I had never been here before, and I can seem to find one. This place is like my heaven. There aren't many bakeries in the Canton/Patterson Park/Highlandtown area, so Hoehn's (known for their Hon's) is a real treat. Grabbed myself up a slice, more like half the size of a sheet cake, of the fresh peach crumble and a strawberry puff pastry. The peach crumble is fabulous! I am Celiac but I don't mind the minor headache to serve up myself a wittle itty bitty piece of that peachy goodness! I'm not a huge fan of the puffs, but I have never really liked puffs. However, important to note that if puff's are your sort of thing: They are huge and only three dollars, plus the cream was fabulous. This is a cheap bakery that serves up the homemade goods, to fill your little belly's desire :)

Delicious sticky buns, tarts and donuts for a reasonable price! No place to sit inside to enjoy these delights but it's just a short stroll away to Patterson Park to enjoy your baked goods. No obvious drink options either - more of a take out and take home type of place but very tasty!

I grew up going to Hoehns Bakery Mr Fred was still doing the baking :) and then his daughter Sharon. My bestfriend Karen's mom Jane Metzger ( Maude) used to work there and she would bring us home all kinds of goodies. I love their cheese cake and the Cream Puff donuts my fav's . I had the pleasure of stopping by their while I was in Baltimore and brought home some fresh baked good for my family. Hoehns will always be a bakery I will go bake to.

Tried this little bakery after stopping by the Highlandtown Farmer's market. It was really quite a decent find! The donuts were quite yummy - not your average Dunkin Donuts mass produced donuts. I really liked the glazed and the jelly donuts. Also tried a fruit filled puff pastry (like a turnover) and when heated slightly in the microwave it was really good. The danish was okay - it had fresh strawberries (a plus) but I didn't like the pastry part... but the donuts - definitely try the donuts!! For 70 cents each you can't go wrong!

The best best best that baltimore has to off is right here, the staff is so kind and the donuts are hefty and full of flavor, the cakes and pies are incredible. If you get there early enough on the right day of the week make sue you get a few pizza buns!

Well, aren't you just the cutest little bake shop?! Yesss you are! Yesss...yoooouuu....areeee..... Awwww! This is the first time I have ever seen a glazed donut WITH chocolate frosting. Good God Almighty, that ain't right! LOL! I stopped in just for a sweet little bite and bought a square of something a tad less sinful, but still bad for me: a cheesecake brownie! Just $0.70 is all it took to make my tongue happy and satisfy my craving for something sweet. And, because it was actually the size of a consumable square (as opposed to gargantuan-sized everything we have everywhere nowadays), it was over in an instant and just want I needed. The shop itself is no bigger than my closet at home and the ladies who work there remind me of friendly grandmas... probably because they are I assume. Anyway, I try to make a point of peeking in here when I am in Highlandtown. It's a throwback of a little place and definitely appreciated. I will be back for that heart-attack-inducing donut one day though. Best believe!

Hoehn's is one of the "old-school" places that I remember as a child growing up here in Baltimore - if only for that reason, I'm going to give it a high rating. But the pastries and goodness that you can purchase from here is nothing short of incredible. LoML and I stopped in after a fabulous lunch at Chicken Rico down the street, and we decided that the meal would be topped off nicely with some old-fashioned baked goodness. The staff hasn't changed since I was a child, either, I swear. They're not the friendliest people in the world - as a matter of fact, one or two of them are downright curmudgeons - but that's okay, I'm totally used to that and in a way I find it endearing in that odd, Baltimorean "hon" sort of way. Their peach cake is a Baltimore tradition, and it's freaking delish - do not walk out without getting some. They use real peach halves, none of this canned crap. And the cheesecake is to die for. Forget this upscale "cupcake" fad - if you want real pastries like your grandmother used to whip up in her Baltimore kitchen, Hoehn's is the place to be. Cash only - no plastic.

Best donuts in the city by far. Skip all of the fluorescently colored donuts with strange and experimental flavors at other places, Hoehn's plain donuts are the way donuts should be. Completely old school and on point.

I've had such a craving for hot and fresh locally made donuts that I Yelped my way to Hoehn's Bakery. Stopping by on a Saturday morning the lovely ladies behind the counter were running down the list of already sold out items! That's what happens on a Raven's game weekend, eh? The choices were extensive but I was solely focused on my traditional donut. At just 70 cents each I had to get two plus a cheese pastry. The doughnut was everything I needed it to be. Light, slightly chewy, thin and melt in in your mouth glaze. I am taking a stand now. No more chains for my doughnuts when I can run to this great, old school, authentic Baltimore bakery.

It took me almost 10 years of living 4 blocks from this place to try it and I kick myself everyday for not trying it sooner. It's a tiny little place and the morning is the best time to go. They have to have the best baked goods I've ever had in my life. The doughnuts are amazing. My trainer will not be happy that i finally came here, but I am.

Not so great, I think Dunkin has better doughnuts. And no coffee??? What's with that?

I moved to Baltimore when I was 5 years old and it was not long after that I was taken to this wonderful bakery by my mom. I remember getting the finger donuts filled with marshmellow .. it is impossible to bite into them without getting some of the filling around the outside of your mouth. I'm now 61 years old, don't live in the neighborhood anymore but you can bet that I stop in whenever I am in the area. In fact I have to take my step dad to the barber next door tomorrow and I will be in Hoehn's ordering some of the donuts. It is so hard to pick .. marshmellow, cream, or jelly. And the cheesecake, I consider it inexpensive but it is another top of my favorites. I know they have been in business well over 50 years, not sure exactly when they opened, but I hope they are around as long as I am!

If you're in the mood for some donuts or pastries and live in downtown Baltimore, you should probably go here. It's like stepping back in time. Also, the donuts and apple crumble cake we got were really good, and it was dirt cheap. Like a whole box full of apple crumble cake for like $4. Yum.

One of the best bakeries in Baltimore. Had a very excellent strawberry short cake from here recently. They don't use any preservatives in their baked goods - thats a dedication to true quality is rare to come by! Highly recommended!

Awesome donuts, friendly staff, great selection. Location a bit shady so go with a friend. Try the regular chocolate-topped cake donut. It is amazing and goes heavenly well with a cold glass of milk!

Beats DD anyday (except Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, when they are not open.) Try the Robin's Nest--a cake donut covered with marshmallow and shredded coconut--named after the owner's daughter Robin. And they have specials. One time I bought a dozen and they gave me an extra donut "to walk out with" because it was Thursday. Clearly these are people who understand me. I felt like I was in that show Cheers. I found the butter cake a little tough, but I've never had anywhere but at this place, so maybe it's supposed to be that way. I've never had trouble parking. They don't take credit cards though.

This place makes a decent donut. Their cream puffs are also pretty good. The donuts at Fenwick are 10x better though. It's a nice option if you are in the area. Parking can be a wee bit of a pain, but you can usually find a spot. If you crave a honey dipped donut and find yourself lost past Patterson Park, this is your place.

A true sampling of all things Baltimore. From the Hon's behind the counter to the sparse interior to the shady neighborhood to the way-low prices to the honest-to-goodness doughnut splendor. Just a tip, if you asked for a 'glazed' the crusty ladies behind the counter will say 'you mean a honey dipped'. The chocolate on chocolate taste like Berger cookies (worth checking out if you like chocolate). The service is, well, let's just say you don't go there for the service. My wife swears by the fruit covered cakes - berry, peach, etc. She says that it reminds her of the German bakeries that she grew up with in Fresno. Skip Dunkin' Doughnuts, and for a change of pace from Panera, try Hoen's. It will remind you of the stuff you used to eat when you were a kid or what grandma would bring over when she visited. Good stuff.
