I visited Da Mimmo last weekend with family. For appetizers we had the bruschetta, portabello mushroom stuffed with crabmeat, oysters rockefeller, and caprese salad. All were amazing, but since I'm not the biggest oyster fan, I was more drawn to the stuffed mushroom and caprese salad. The tomatoes were extremely fresh in both the caprese salad and bruschetta. For dinner I ordered the lobster tettrazzini. Oh. My. Gosh. I'd describe it as tasting like grown up macaroni and cheese with lobster. It was absolutely incredible and the portion was huge; I was more than happy to take home my leftovers for dinner the following night. For dessert we ordered the gelato with Godvia chocolate liquor and the flourless chocolate almond cake. Again, both were amazing, but if you have even the slightest chocolate tooth, order the chocolate cake. The decor is very green and traditional; however, it's a cozy atmosphere while remaining elegant. I can't wait to visit again, but I'm going to have a hard time trying dishes other than the lobster and chocolate cake -- those two dishes are what dreams are made of!

I was completely disappointed with my experience here the other week. To begin with, I ordered a glass of wine in the bar while waiting for my table and when I got the check it was $12. I really think a place should tell you if a glass of wine is going to be in the double digits. We were then seated and after 15 minutes of being ignored, we asked a food runner if we could get a menu. He stated that he needed to get a waiter to do that. When the waiter arrived he basically slapped the menus at us as if we had inconvenienced him by asking for them. After looking at the wine list I determined that we would never go back. I don't expect the vintage of a wine to be listed if we're talking $20-$30 bottles. However when the majority of your wines are $70 plus and you have $165 bottle with no year listed I believe that a place is deliberately trying to rip you off. Maybe it's different if you live in Baltimore, but if you are coming from out of town, don't waste your money on a place that treats your rudely and won't tell you what kind of wine you're getting for $165.

We first went for drinks one night and enjoy the atmosphere. True Italian! Great drinks and enjoyed the pictures of visiting celebrities. Dinner later in the week was one of the best we've had. We were in Italy last year and this reminded us of our trip. We took our time (just like in Italy) and weren't rushed. We ended up being the last couple there and enjoyed talking with the staff. We were even offered a ride back to our hotel. The food was terrific and at the end we decided to try a Cannoli. What a treat! We had some others in Little Italy and none of the other restaurants could complete. For a great meal, and an evening of feeling like you're in Italy, try Da Mimmo.

I mean, the food at Da Mimmo's was tasty, but it was also overpriced and the service was sub par. The outside of the building seems grand at first but when you walk in, there's just a tiny bar to the left and a tiny dining room to the right. Supposedly there are more rooms upstairs but the hostess alluded that they were for private parties only. Decor was kinda charming but everything was littered with phrases like, "Finest, upscale Italian Cuisine," as if trying to convince you. My friend and I went here for dinner on a recent Saturday night and I was repeatedly underwhelmed. To start, the dining room is small. The hostess had to pull out the table in order for us to get into our four-top. Our waiter was difficult to communicate with, and he rattled off the specials. I get it dude, you know the specials really well, but what good is it if we can't understand what you're saying? He then gave us a wine list that only listed bottles. Not wanting a whole bottle, I ended up ordering a glass of generic white wine. Don't know what kind, year, or winery it was from because the waiter just set it down and there was no wine list. Then came the we're-nice-enough-to-include-free-bread, which didn't come with olive oil/vinegar or butter. Pretty weak. We ordered an appetizer of the $17 caprese salad. There is no reason why any caprese salad to cost that much for what it takes to assemble. Then for our entrees, we got the chicken marsala, swordfish, and a side of spaghetti. The spaghetti was yummy. The swordfish was a good size, although it was undercooked and came with this weird side salad. The chicken marsala was tasty but again, I just didn't feel like it was worth the price. To finish, we got tea and cappuccinos, no dessert. I can't get over their terrible tea selection. Presenting Bigelow teabags in a wooden case does not make them classy or taste any different. That's what I drink at home because I'm a starving student. Anywho, it matters little whether or not Da Mimmo's is authentic Italian because they are not worth visiting anyway. Spend your money elsewhere.

The meal we had was superb! Good quality, properly cooked pasta, tender, beautifully sauced veal, excellent wine. But, $8 for a bottle of mineral water and $12 for a scoop of gelato with what amounted to three cut up strawberries is simply unforgivable! If there is better food in Little Italy I don't know where but the gouging on the water, especially, makes it difficult to rate Da Mimmo anything more than 2 stars. It just plain makes us angry!

The staff is a little pretentious. I said I was in the mood for a heavier white (wine) and the waiter just looked at me very cocky and said "I've never heard of that in all my years". Plain rude. As for the food .... Sub par for sure. The pasta was clearly out of a box with the sauces being the highlight.

I agree with everyone that says Da Mimmo is overpriced. It totally is. Dare I say, this may be the reason that the place was almost entirely empty on a Saturday night? The place is pretty tacky, but it has a romantic-ish atmosphere at the same time. The stars hanging from the ceiling all over the place are simply whimsical. The one thing I thought was weird was their custom "New Millenium" plates. It has been 12 years since the "New Millenium." The food is pretty good though. The spaghetti and meatball small dish was pretty awesome because you could get it as a side. The meatball was massive. The clam appetizer with red sauce was pretty awesome and great for sharing. Typically, one does not think of Little Italy as a place for dessert. Typically, places in Little Italy think of dessert as an afterthought. Da Mimmo certainly does not. The desserts, strangely, are where it is at. I'd simply go back for just desserts and a cappuccino. The cappuccino is pretty fantastic. It came in a Lavazza cup, which makes me think that they use Lavazza espresso. They make a mean cappuccino. We ordered a cannoli and tiramisu to share. Both were seriously fantastic. They also have nice chocolate martinis. But beware, a chocolate martini will set you back $14. A nice plus to Da Mimmo is the free parking lot they have near the restaurant.

My family came up for a special evening while I was in Baltimore and we went to DA Mimmo's. They are known for tier veal chops...these were exceptional and huge! They could feed two people. The chicken parm was very tender and my boys liked it very much. We had a few salads, I thought the salads were way over priced and the dressing was drenched over the greens. Also the appetizers: the garlic bread tasted terrific but the cost for 4 small pieces was too much....the kids had to have a second order because they were delicious (but small). The chilled jumbo crab...rubbery and not very good. The shrimp appetizer was not what I expected, 3 small shrimp in a nice sauce. The portions for the price were were way off for the appetizers...I think I paid less for the drinks! Service was good, however I was not sure if he was super attentive or they just wanted to get you to order, feed you and move you out....fine line between attentive and pushy....but always polite! If you don't mind the price then this could be a nice place to eat. Conveniently located near one of the parking garages it is easy to find.

Clearly this place has seen better days. It's worn around the edges and needs a lot to restore it to some semblance of its former self. Moments of excellence in the dishes but overall the execution was spotty. Nice wait staff but clearly not the A Team. I hope they take some time to give this place a facelift. It could be great again...just not now.

This place is pricey, but the food and service is well worth it. I was in baltimore for a conference for a week and ate out 3 times a day for a week and this was the best meal i had during my visit. If i ever visit Baltimore again this will be the first restaurant I go to!

Great Italian restaurant to eat. Food was well prepared and tasty from our appetizers to our main courses. This was my second time eating here and would come again. My only negative was that we had a party of 7 and we were seated in a corner round table with little room to move, when we asked to move we were told, very firmly, that we could not as we would interrupt traffic. It was a Monday night and the restaurant has two floors and it was not busy.

Had a wonderful lunch here today. In my mind it was very reasonably priced. Three courses for 21.00. I originally hail from Chicago and from my experience here in Baltimore the food is average price. This is one of the best dining experiences I have had in little Italy. Today I had the clams casino. Maryland is known for it's abundance of fresh seafood. My appetizer was brimming with fresh herbs and bacon. For an entree I took the waiters suggestion and tried one of their veal dishes( they specialize in veal). I had the veal piccata. Perfectly cooked in a lemon caper sauce. It didn't come with a starch or a potato that is the only thing I would change about the dish. My date had the penne with tomatoes, onions and ham. For dessert we had an excellent cannoli. They have a terrific wine selection as well. The ambiance at this place is just beautiful. I would say it's a dressier restaurant. And I can't wait to go back.

We have enjoyed Da Mimmo for years. The ambiance is charming and the waitstaff is always more than helpful. I love all of the artwork! We often go in before the theater when it is more quiet. The Tony Bennett table is our favorite. My only complain is that the veal chop and lobster tettrazzini are so good we never order anything else. A must do when visiting Baltimore.

This review is hard to write - this spot used to be a favorite. Recently went with out of town family.... about 16 in the group from NYC who wanted good Italian food during weekend stay. When we arrived at 7:45 Fri. eve. no one out front - but a few places down the block were jumpin - first sign - than after being seated the waiter - rattled off about 20 different specials....Huh????? The Fried Calamari tasted like overly breaded luke warm rubber - The famous veal chop had a strange taste to it.... Lobster special was over cooked - several things sent back because were not hot.... we were very disappointed with the all the food - and will not be back. The name sake and Chef of Da Mimmo's passed away several years ago and seems took all the good food with him.......

Don't get me wrong, the food was good. But I agree with the previous comments, this place is FAR overpriced. This is coming from an Italian/American who doesn't mind spending money when it's worth it. Our server was super friendly and the food was by far the best in Little Italy (not saying much when you work at Sabatinos and see the food they serve). Having said that, quite expensive indeed...our bill for three people, almost $300. When you look at a wine list with no wines under $50, you should know you're in for a treat.

Very pricey, but also very, very good. If you're going to spend some cash on dinner anyway, I would highly recommend Da Mimmo. The waiter recited the menu to us flawlessly, and it was amazing that as he listed the various appetizers, entrees and such that I was able to keep tabs on exactly what I wanted to order. We started out with some excellent garlic bread, and I followed this up with the best crab cocktail that I have ever had. The crab meat was jumbo lump, sweet and served in a dish with a live beta fish swimming underneath my food - a little weird but a very nice touch in my opinion. We then shared and excellent bottle of Chianti, which went well with my entree - the house special veal chop - 26oz and butterfly cut. It dominated my plate and looked worthy of Fred Flintstone. As we finished our meal, we were even offered a ride back to the hotel in the restaurant's limo. The driver presented us with some fun historical facts as we drove by various sites of interests. Overall, I was happy to enjoy both an excellent meal and a great experience at Da Mimmo!

Went there w wife and two friends last night for drinks after dinner somewhere else... Had two beers and two glasses of wine, two small desserts. $76 !!!!!! Really. I will never go back to this over priced restaurant that might have been nice in the 60's. We had just spent $300 for the four of us at a nice steakhouse. Four drinks and two desserts $76. No reason. My drink was a $7 Bud light......

Stopped in for a late lunch on the spur of the moment with four hungry adults and two children under the 5. We were very under-dressed, but nobody seemed to mind our running shoes and tshirts. The menu is nice, but the specials are plentiful and much better sounding. As somebody else mentions here on Yelp, that is where they get you. No price mentioned and very expensive. Also disappointed by the lack of wine by the glass. The food was very good and the service was fine, but this place is not worth the money. Very expensive.

Went here for lunch on a Wednesday. My wife and I were literally the only people in the restaurant the entire time. The decor is extremely gaudy and dated. I know it's in little Italy but I felt like I had travelled back to the early 90's. plaques on the wall touted their many awards, mind you none of them were even from the last decade; never a good sign. Considering nobody else was dining in the restaurant the service was pretty poor. The guy who seated/waited on us was nice enough but it took him a while to attend to us and cleared phlegm pretty loudly while he walked around the place. I could almost forgive that but sound carries in an empty restaurant. I know that and so should he. A basket of uninspiring white bread was plopped on our table but nobody could be bothered to put out a plate of olive oil/spices as seems to be customary in a lot if Italian restaurants. And there was nothing to spread on the bread so I guess I was just supposed to eat plain white bread. Ordered fried calamari to start. It was undercooked. Chewy mostly and only half of the calamari seemed to have been battered. The entrees themselves tasted alright but weren't exactly knocking my socks off. The worst part was just the tiny portions. I ordered a $16 plate of chicken fettuccini Alfredo and got what amounted to an appetizer portion which would have been fine if I'd paid, say, $10 for it. Avoid this restaurant at least for lunch. I honestly can't say it the dinner experience would be different. I hope for their sake it is but considering a decade-long dry spell in awards I'm highly doubtful.

In Baltimore for a conference and went with a group of 10. The decor is definitely a bit 80's and a bit South Philly cheesesteak shop-ish in that there are signed photos of celebrities with some kid (the owners?) through a couple decades of growth. That said, the drinks were good and the food was good. I had a spinach salad, chicken marsala with a side of pasta and the creme caramel. All were very good. The creme caramel was closer to the Mexican style (heavier) than the French version but I like any custard/creme caramel so it was fine. The waiter rattled off a number of specials in heavily accented English - I understood what he said, but many at the table did not and there was not a written version available of what he said so people resorted to ordering from just the printed menu. It was pricey for what it was but it was a good night. If you want good Italian food in Little Italy, give it a try. I'd go again...

Food was tasty! I ordered the lasagna which was enough for 2 servings. If your a meat eater its definitely a dish you'll want to try. My date had the Chicken Picatta which was good but he said he's had better. Ambiance could have used some work and tables were a little too close together so although it was suppose to be an intimate setting it didn't feel like it. Customer Service was pretty good. A lot of there dishes that the waiter covered were not on the menu so it was hard remembering what the waiter covered. I'd order take out from here in the future.

I made the yelp account just to write a review here. I am extremely disappointed with their service. The moment we went into there, the hostess did not even greet us but rudely said "can I help you?", and we said we are dining in, she asked us if we want to see the menu (with the tone of we were going to go out if we see the menu). We should have walked out right there but we wanted to taste how Maryland's "best" chef's dishes are like. When we were seated, we could clearly feel that the waiter is not treating us the same as the other customers. The waiter did not tell us about the specials, did not even make an eye contact, and did not even ask before taking our plates away. I might have felt less offended if other people were treated the same way, but no. They treated other customers very well. We were very offended by their discriminating service. I am NEVER going back there or recommending anyone to go there. Please spend your valuable dinner time at a place where they treat every customer equally. We are living in 21st century, and discrimination is so out of league.

This place is AWESOME. Picture it: Memorial Day weekend 2013. Some friends and I were on the hunt for dessert, when the place we had in mind was packed. No bueno. All we wanted were drinks and desserts. Then, I saw Da Mimmo's sign like an oasis in the desert. We shrugged and said, 'ok why not?' and stepped inside. When you walk in you automatically feel like you're at someone's home, but not in a bad way--in a welcoming, get comfortable and stay for awhile kinda way. The decor is perfect for this restaurant. Some yelpers said it was tacky, but I disagree--it's fun and homey and it works. The drinks were good and strong and my friends who ordered entrees loved their meals. Several others of us got dessert and enjoyed it. The best part of the night however was the entertainment. Salvatore kept the mood nice with a mix of piano and guitar songs that my group enjoyed. We sang, we drank, we ate, and we had a fab time. The owner and chef were super nice and our bartender was very helpful. Next time you're in Baltimore make a trip to Da Mimmo. I hope you like it as much as we did!

Impromptu dinner in Little Italy! So....I was very much under dressed for this place. Jeans and a long sleeved shirt and brown loafers....yeah I didn't get the memo.......But the hostess was nice enough to take our reservation and seat us at the table with a smile. This is definitely a coat and tie type of the place. The ambiance is amazing! Very High end European decor. This would be a very romantic restaurant for that special night out. They had an amazing wine list, it was unfortunately that no one wanted to splurge on a $80 bottle of wine with me. *sigh* But I still have my eye on that Pinot Noir! The veal tenderloin was amazing and the side of spaghetti was also excellent. Dinner is very pricey! But I think Pasta Plus in Laurel has the best pasta in the area. They are not as upscale as Da Mimmo is. All in all it was a good experience. I think the next time I come back, I want to splurge and get the nice wine and really take my time to enjoy the meal.

It's hard to even know where to begin. As everyone has already pointed out, this place is outrageously overpriced. And they clearly know it, as they go out of their way to avoid disclosing the prices of their specials and glasses of wine. After ordering our appetizer (price undisclosed), the waiter suggested some garlic bread to go with it. When charging $48 for a veal chop, it wouldn't hurt to give us some free bread. Really, what self-respecting Italian restaurant doesn't provide complimentary bread? But we ordered the garlic bread. The owners and chef should be embarrassed to serve this, let alone to charge for it. It's an Italian restaurant and it can't even get garlic bread right? I'm pretty sure it was that frozen garlic bread from the super market. Not that I wanted any more of it, but they gave us two slices. Of bread. At an Italian restaurant. Where I dropped $150. Two slices. And charged us. But I don't want this to sound like a bitter review because I'm cheap. The fact is it's clear the owners have made a conscious decision to charge as much as possible for as cheap a product as they can produce. Which is why they haven't bothered to update the plates (New Millennium plates in 2013!) and flatware (my knife was too dull to even cut through the veal) and party store star decorations hanging from the ceiling. The food itself is simply mediocre. Not horrible, just extraordinarily mediocre. Almost impressively mediocre. If you're looking for a good food experience, this is not the place for you.

We visited half a dozen restaurants in Little Italy before finding Da Mimmo, because my date had visited it before but couldn't remember the name. It was still early (5 p.m.), so we wanted to have cocktails before thinking about dinner. The bar/lounge had dim lights with paintings and celebrity photos (Cher, Nicholas Cage, Nancy Pelosi, Bill Clinton, etc.) on the walls. Judging from the piano in the back, there must be live music on some nights. The Ravens game was going on and the staff were nice enough to turn the volume down. We ordered each ordered a cocktail. Mine was a delicious white chocolate martini. However, the price tag was higher than we expected. $15 a pop!!! Good thing we decided to have dinner elsewhere, since the drink prices are indicative of food prices in this case. Despite the priciness, I'd probably re-visit this restaurant again to check out their live music. Plus, it's the only restaurant in Little Italy that we found to have a loungy bar. Seems like the place to go for great atmosphere, but expect to pay for it!

It's always awkward being the only one in a restaurant. I did have my mom with me on this trip, since she wanted something better than airport food before flying back to Charlotte, but we were the sole occupants in Da Mimmo for lunch. Granted, it was a Tuesday on July 4th after-weekend, but for a place of this quality I was still kind of surprised. The whole idea of a "Little Italy" in Baltimore was pretty neat, and when I ever go back there are quite a few other places I would like to try. As for the food, it was all good, but nothing really stood out as a must have dish. My mom's arugula salad was very fresh, but the dressing was lacking in flavor, so overall it was kind of a wash. The pasta fagioli soup that I started with however was loaded with flavor, and they did a good job of not overloading it with the navy beans. The portion size for the soup was also quite generous, and I can imagine this being a perfect winter warmer after a chilly stroll through the harbor. Mom was blown away by the penne with marina sauce and prosciutto, but it doesn't take nearly as much to impress her. I thought the flavor was spot on, but the pasta wasn't as warm as I like, and there was definitely a lack of prosciutto. The shrimp scampi I ordered was probably my favorite thing from the whole meal. The shrimp were large, and the butter sauce was very rich, just like I like it. It was a little odd having them on a separate plate as the pasta, and having to combine the two each time I wanted a bite, but I don't think it really detracted too much. We ended with a house made canoli, which was somewhat of a capstone on the meal as a whole: good, but not great. The atmosphere here is like that of the stereotypical flashy Italian restaurant, except "classed up" slightly with fancier decor and better dressed waitstaff. As I mentioned earlier, we were alone in the restaurant, so it was hard to get a vibe for how the place functions when it's busy, or what the clientele here is like, so for us it felt a bit deserted and drafty. There appear to be side rooms, upstairs, downstairs, and who knows what else here, so it's probably a very suitable place for large parties, especially if you like to get loud.

Way Over Priced!!!! Food was good, however the service, greeters, and bar tenders were to say the least uninterested and in some cases rude. Asked to taste a sip of wine before I chose to spend $50 on a half bottle was like asking for Kidney or something. Two people at the bar, 4 glasses of wine, split one appetizer, split one entrée, and two coffee drinks (had to ask for a second shot each, because they so weak) came to $200 with tip. I'll never go back!!!!!!!

Its has that dark Mediterranean appearance when you enter, lots of paintings and celebrity photos. Really cozy layed back bar with entertainment. This place serves really good food. I had a great veal chop. I don't what they marinated this in but it was really good. Top notch service. I was with a group of 8 and everyone was pleased with the restaurant and service. We splurged so it was expensive. Price/value ratio is good. I like taking business clients here as well as dining with friends and family. I will let you in on a little secret, this is Tony Bennet' s favorite Baltimore restaurant. No joke, he was actually standing in the bar waiting for his driver on my last visit.

My favorite Italian food in all of Baltimore. The food is authentic (and extremely delicious) and the service is always great. The portions are good and the pasta is always cooked perfectly, which is a plus. I like that there are a few seafood options as well on the menu (always appreciated) and the desserts are excellent. This is a good place to go for a special occasion and creates a very memorable experience.

My boss and I were in town for the e-Tail conference and were recommended to the Little Italy area by our hotel's concierge. It was quite a walk from our hotel (us Floridians aren't really accustomed to walking more than a few blocks). Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted to the sounds of live music that filled the room. As we were seated, I immediately noticed all the stars hanging from the ceiling. Da Mimmo definitely has that welcoming feeling down pat, as you feel like you're in someone's house. I have to say that the service here was wonderful. Our waiter was extremely polite, however, just a warning, if you want to inquire about the specials they detail everything to you. Some people might enjoy this a lot, but I prefer to peruse menus at my own leisure. I felt a little bad for our waiter since he went on and on describing every detail about each dish, but then again that's what his job is I suppose. I ordered the Chilean Sea bass, which was a steep price of almost $50. The fish was delicious though, perfectly cooked, with a wonderful light sauce. I'm just not sure it was worth the price paid (then again, the company picked up the tab...). Bottom line: If I were to ever find myself in Baltimore again, I'd definitely come back.

Went with three for dinner, hoping that Da Mimmo's would live up to its reputation. We were not disappointed! Great specials, the calamari was perfect! My friends had the veal chop and sea bass. The plates were a sight to behold -- well prepared, very generous portions. I had the osso bucco with saffron risotto -- I haven't had better. Even though we were stuffed to the gills, I had to sample the cheese cake. The best I've ever had. I've eaten Italian cooking in lots of cities, but this gem is now my favorite. Yes, it's expensive. Let me just say, you get what you pay for. Oh -- and the parking is very convenient. I'm sick of going out to a nice place and arrive irritated because I can't find parking. Da Mimmo's has a private lot! What more could one want? Definitely five stars.

Good stuff! Went here for dinner before seeing a show and the food was delicious and the service was great. I was highly impressed with our waiter and how he had all the specials and its details memorized. There were probably 12 featured items that weren't on the menu that he recited without a breath. Anyway, back to the food. We ordered everything off the specials menu which included a Filet Mignon Carpaccio, Seared Sea Scallops and the Veal Tenderloin. The carpaccio was great. Very thinly sliced steak served with capers, onions and arugula with a twist of lemon. The scallops were great too. Huge medallions of sea scallops seared and served with sauteed onions and green peppers in a balsamic reduction sauce. And the veal tenderloin was the waiter's suggestion and what a great suggestion it was. D.E.licious. I'm not normally a big fan of veal because of the gamey taste, but this had no gamey taste to it at all. Everything was well-made. I was actually surprised the waiter suggested the tenderloin instead of their signature dish, the Veal Chops. It was so good I'm not complaining. For dessert, we had the tiramisu and the custard served with strawberries. The custard didn't really taste like tradition custards like flan or creme brulee, but more like a whipped, frothy cream. It was not what I expected when we ordered it, but it was still very good. I had a great experience there. The bottle of wine didn't hurt, contributing to a fun night.

Beware! We got a bill of $300 for a simple dinner for three, with one small cheap bottle of wine.An overwhelming dinner list of specials, given verbally, but no menu sheet. Be sure to ask the price: we were charged $50 for each of the entree specials we ordered. They were good, but NOT special. Other extra charges, such as $5 for 3 pieces of garlic bread. I felt used, because we trusted the restaurant and our server to be fair. It ruins a nice evening to have to ask them the prices every second.

I visited the restaurant while on business. The food was mediocre, and extremely overpriced. To top things off, our waiter was rude and patronizing, which made the dinner experience even worse. This is a shame since a lot of the other restaurants in Baltimore are quite good.

The service was great, nice, polite, and friendly. The food was ok, a little bland though. Nothing a little salt couldn't handle though.. Nice environment decent place to go for a first date. A little pricey..

We have had a good dinner and everything went well until we've been given the check.Oh no, they created items that we did not even recoghnize, worse than that they've come up with prices that you won't even find on their online menu list, and when we complained they claimed there are items that have "market values of the day". hahaha I have onl;y heard of fish or seafood of the day that is the "market value" besides the fact that they could have told us about it beforehand. We ended up paying 1/3 more . Incredible HA?

I left with the feeling that our group of four was not wanted in this establishment. We arrived 30min early on NYE and proceeded to get a round of drinks at the bar. Bartender was cordial but not overly friendly. The decor was very cheesy. Gaudy balloons everywhere which was ok considering the night and the pictures of celebs who have visited many very old and very few new faces. To make the reservation we had to give a credit card which seemed odd in retrospect because the place seemed a little dead for such a popular night. We were seated right at the reservation time but unfortunately the service digressed rapidly. I am not sure if it was ageism but our ages ranged from 27-29 and were dressed well ( men jackets and women dresses) it was made very clear to us that were were not welcome and we were made to feel as if we were inferior guests. At the table we ordered another round of drinks and decided to wait until the main course for a bottle of wine( markup approx 500%). The waiter could not have been less helpful in the wine or food selections. The specials which were numerous were presented so rapidly and lacked and inflection making it impossible to discern where one dish started and the other began. It was as if the micro machine guy was our waiter. When asked about specifics i.e. what the different pasta's were, we were met with complete indignation and another very brisk and short repeat of what the special was with no attempt made to further explain the dishes. At times during the meal one of us would ask a question and we were met with a sharp reply and the waiter would just walk off, failing to look around the table to see if anyone else would like anything. We ordered 4 entree's ( 3 pasta one steak). as well as two apps ( calamari and a ravioli special) The calamari was excellent, perfectly cooked and tender. The ravioli was lazily prepared. It was not several raviolis but rather what looked like one large piece of pasta covering the seafood from another main dish. Overall rather bland and unimpressive. The main dishes were all good but not spectacular. The GF's sea bass was excellent but at $52 it could have been a larger portion. The steak was also rather poor. Flavor was ok but it had a very large artery running right through it and was definitely not a center cut fillet as you are accustomed to seeing in a nice place. It was obviously the end piece. Size was good though. The waiter throughout the meal did little to be friendly or cordial in any way. At the end of the meal the lady who ordered the steak informed the waiter if the unappetizing artery not expecting the have anything removed from the check but to simply inform him so in the future they could watch out for it. The response from the waiter could not have been colder or more indifferent. All in all a $450 bill ( before tip) and not spectacular food with shockingly bad service. We all eat out frequently and we all remarked on how disrespected we felt. Baltimore has far better restaurants and food. when going out to eat much of the experience is in how you are treated as the guests of the establishment. The high prices can many times be justified by good food and exemplary service but this establishment fell far short and in honesty it was the fault of our attitudinal haughty poor waiter. Maybe we pick the wrong restaurant for our age ( Upon leaving one of the girls in the group overheard a patron's comment that "don't they know this is not a young new years place") Overall we found the experience depressing and sallow.

I'm from Chicago where good, cheap Italian food is plentiful. In comparison, the food at Da Mimmo was nothing special and overpriced. I did enjoy the portobello with crab meat appetizer (but $18?? C'mon...), as well as the cannoli. The lasagna was ok, but it was very meat-heavy. I was hoping for something with a lot more cheese. The service was good, but that should be expected because I was basically the only person there. I probably would not go back to Da Mimmo if I ever return to Baltimore.

We stumbled upon Da Mimmos after our dinner plans fell through at another restaurant in Little Italy... upon arriving, they took us upstairs and switched our table twice. So we ended up right by the drink station so there was consistent traffic around our table and the waiters behind me speaking Spanish and Italian... it was annoying to say the least (I should mention we were one of three couples in the upstairs so it wasn't crowded). I got a shrimp appetizer and it was great. It was only two pieces of shrimp in some sauce but was really good. I ordered a chicken dish off of the restaurant week menu and literally all I received was two pieces of pounded out chicken in some sauce. It was good but it came with NO veggies or pasta or sides... it was just the chicken... so I paid $35 for two pieces of chicken and two pieces of shrimp... awesome! Oh and not to mention my $10 bottle of water. The food was not even that good. My husband ordered the lamb chop and though they raved about how it was named Baltimore's Best he didn't find it special... bottom line, we will not go again and if you do go, don't fall for the restaurant week crap... get something cheaper off the menu. We are not going back. PS- the waiter was great and attentive

Simply amazing... definitely my favorite restaurant in Little Italy. I've gone for my High School graduation and my Grandparents 50th anniversary. Not only is the food very flavorful and tasty, it's quite beautiful as well! The Osso Buco is to DIE for. Its so tender, the sensation on your palette will have you doing a little dance in your seat! For fun, get the shrimp cocktail... as part of the presentation, there's a little fish in a bowl that swims around under your shrimp :D very clever... The wait staff are very friendly and funny too.

Wow - Da Mimmo's is perhaps the best place to eat in Baltimore's Little Italy. Excellent service, excellent food. The bar attached is like straight out of a scene of your favorite mob movie - schmaltzy music, snifter glasses, and assorted characters in tow. Not to be missed.

Went there in early Sept. '08 just before Tropical Storm Hannah as a reward to my wife for busting ass at work. Loved it.!!! While it's definitely not a "cheap date" sort of place with the prices, I thought the food was great, the service excellent, and the environment/mood exactly what I was looking for in Little Italy. Our waiter really knew how to take proper care of a table, too. The timing of the apps, main course, and dessert were perfect. The Osso Buco fell off the bone, served over a saffron risotto. Drool. We were not rushed. Totally agree with other reviews -- this place has it's "kitsch" on, but as I learned years ago working in the biz, "eating out is a form of entertainment". They even have limo service for destinations downtown; wish I had known before we took a cab there, but we used them going back to the hotel. This place is the bomb -- I will be back when I visit Baltimore again.

O.k the wife and I were out and about again just looking for a spot to dine and stumbled upon Da Minno's. Just after 3p.m there was no one in the restaurant so we had the choice to either the bar or the restaurant area. We choose the restaurant. The atmospher was inviting and the host took really good care of us, still letting us have the lunch menu selections available to us since they stopped serving lunch past 3p.m. Da Mimmo's has a great selection of their own house wines, and the Cabernet is one that I would surely suggest. It went great with their LARGE butterflied T-Bone veal chop. Recommended medium charbroiled with garlic, rosemary, and sage. Just typing this makes me want to order another one. I should of took a picture!! The Ceasar salad was also tasty if only there was a little more of it. It's literally just a really good taste, not so much something to be considered a meal in and of itself. The shrimp scampi was also a hit with its garlic, butter, white wine sauce combination. After you finish the meal make sure you have some of their warm, soft bread to sop up the remaining sauce. You'd be missing out if you forget!

The saffron rissotto is on point! I've visited Da Mimmo's on a couple of occassions and have been pleasantly surprised. They start you off with a plate, that you won't eat on and they'll offer you brushetta or garlic bread, which you should know isn't free. It's delicious but NOT complimentary. I've ordered the saffron rice twice and came up disappointed this last time. The first time I ate at Da Mimmo's was during a weekday and I was served a heaping portion. Unfortunatley when I came here on a Saturday though, I found that the serving size was maybe 1/3 of what I had gotten the previous time. I actually left the restuarant feeling a bit hungry because I was expecting a bit more food. Overall, I like the vibe of the place - even though as it gets darker outside management thinks its wise to turn down the indoor lighting as well? Oh well. You should still try it out for yourself. Note: Da Mimmo's offers validated parking across the street, next to Vaccarro's for their customers.

Located in an area called "little Italy" and what a nice welcoming cultural part of town. Didn't have reservations, but were seated immediately. Restaurant is very intimate and dark inside. Ordered calamari for appetizer, very tasty. Did take at least 25 min to get our entrees and I was so hungry. Ordered chicken Marsala and fettuccine Alfredo. The Marsala was amazing!! Practically melts in your mouth. Great flavor and the best I've ever had. Alfredo was also amazingly good and tasted like fresh made pasta drenched in Alfredo sauce. Sauce was fantastic. Also tasted as if it were homemade and not out of a can.

I went late night before they closed and sat in the bar and ate as fast as possible. There were clearly some couples that were sugar daddy/young gold digger that were trying to have an intimate low key night and i had to sit by them! Awkward! It was really dark, maybe that's a common thing there. There was an old man playing piano which was nice, but incredibly loud. I think if I was prepared for these things it would have been better. Food was just ok. Waitress/bar tender treated me like lower class and like I shouldn't be there, but the owner was very nice and welcoming. Have to give 4 stars and probably will try some place different next time.

Save your calories and most definitely your cash. Olive Garden's all you can eat pasta pass costs the price of two entrees. EVERYTHING is al a carte. The prices were insane for entrees without at least a vegetable let alone a salad or soup. The salads were $12. It was definitely the best part of the meal and earned the star. I overheard an adjacent table order a dish traditionally served with pasta. Even with that dish, there was no side of pasta. The bread was sacrilegious for a place in Little Italy. It was essentially the par-baked dinner rolls from the grocery store. My daughter with fresh braces appreciated it's softness and lack of texture. We ordered garlic bread, a 30 year old recipe, it was on the same limp uncooked bread. They sell it by the slice The tempura zucchini was ok. The accompanying sauce was without a doubt ketchup and mayonnaise. We still haven't identified the mystery ingredients in the lasagna. The pasta was beyond al dente, it was raw. We've been all around the world. We've eaten Italian food in Italy and even far away places like Egypt or Japan. This by far was the worst Italian fare we have ever had. I really didn't care about the price, if the food and service were good. The service was very average. We weren't offered a wine list. They didn't even tell us the specials. My daughter felt sorry for her plate. I feel sorry for my palate and wallet.

Talk about going downhill. Some people like it and others hate it, but for the money, I'd just go to Aldo's next time. Da Mimmo food is okay, prices high ($12 for a glass of house wine !!) and service is the worst (took away my bottle of Peroni that was half full, never checked to see if we were happy or needed anything, brought my wife a dessert while I was still eating dinner). I don't need to be pampered but don't expect to get the bum's rush by a waiter who just wants to go home, either.

I came here with my aunt because a banner out front proclaimed their chef had been voted the best chef in Maryland. The food wasn't bad, but if this is truly the absolute best Maryland has to offer, you might be better off choosing a restaurant in a different state. We had the oysters, the calamari (on the busboy's recommendation), and the apple walnut salad. The oysters were done with some kind of very creamy cheese that wasn't very good, and unfortunately that flavor dominated the dish. The calamari was quite good, but not the best I've ever had. I would recommend it. The salads were excellent, very light and fresh. The service was great, although I will qualify that by saying that we did come at an odd hour between lunch and dinner because that's just how the timing worked out. My one recommendation would be for them to print a specials menu, because when our server recited it it seemed to go on forever and I forgot most of the content after he said it. To his credit, he remembered it all, which was very impressive. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, which was nice. The decor is a little gaudy but still tasteful and pretty, and the setup makes for a cozy feel. The food is overpriced and the portions are small, so I don't recommend coming here if you're starving. Come more for the ambiance and the friendly staff and you won't be disappointed. I'm confident there are a few real gems on this menu that the chef does exceptionally well, so don't hesitate to ask for recommendations.

The best restaurant in Baltimore and the best Italian anywhere close ! But service is OUTSTANDING ! The very best in taking care of the customer and exceeding all expectations with providing the best quality food anywhere. This is a must go to

Best meal I have had in years. I had the Veal chop with the lobster ravioli appetizer and my wife had the lobster pasta dish. The Veal chop was huge (I took half of it home) and simply succulent. The lobster ravioli had a spectacular sauce and an immense amount of lobster. We had a great bottle of wine and strawberries soaked in GM. After dinner we went to the bar and saw someone brought to tears by a patron singing opera with the piano player. A spectacular evening. The restaurant also provided a car and driver to bring us back to our hotel. GREAT RESTAURANT !!

The place looks nice, the atmosphere is a little over the top (gaudy but not tasteless) but cozy. We were there early on a Sunday and we had the place to our selves which was nice. We got the cappuccino to start which was pretty good. The garlic bread was awful, it tasted like it was microwaved, it was soft and spongy, zero crispness or crunch. I ordered the minestrone soup which tasted good but over salted and the shrimp scampi (I've been ordering this at various restaurants all my life) which to me always means a plate of shrimp with butter/oil garlic and white wine or dry vermouth to de-glaze the pan with all those good bits. But what I got resembled fettuccine alfredo with 4 pieces of shrimp on top of it. At least the pasta was al dente but we thought that might have been by mistake... They were really nice though, and checked in on us a few times. We didn't want to cause a scene and were just happy to be eating so we just kept telling them we were good. It was more just an experience for us and we were laughing about how bad the meal was the entire day. Very much like NYC Little Italy, where if you don't know where to go (or grew up eating Italian food made by Italians) you'd think the food was good, when in actuality it's usually over salted and tasted like a frozen meal or comparable to Olive Garden.

I hosted two large events (25+ guests) in 2013 at this restaurant and privately dined here multiple times over the past two years. Those experiences are the basis for my feedback. 1. Come prepared to eat A LOT. In November 2014, I took one of my colleagues to the restaurant and she had the lamp chop which they are known for and found it to be delicious. 2. Come prepared for different Italian fare. Some of the previous reviews are correct in that this is not Olive Garden or another chain type of restaurant but I consider that a GREAT thing. My friends and I liked that the garlic bread has a different flavor and that the menu is a la carte so we aren't stuck to a set menu. Over the years some of my favorites are clams casino, veal chop, almost all of the veal dishes actually and they had a Portobello mushroom stuffed with crab that was delicious. 3. Come prepared for great service. The owner MaryAnn during all of my visits checks in on every table, you can find the Chef Masood checking in with guests as well. There is a sense that you are dining in their home. Actually, I believe many of the wait staff that works there are somehow related which is really nice to see a true family business managed by a woman in action. Overall great experience which is why I visit every time I'm in Baltimore. Yes, you do spend more but every time I have walked out pleased.

not really impressed. I am Italian and not what i am used to - expected more. when i order Veal Milanese i expect lemon with it - not having to ask for it. the wine we ordered was bad and i had 5he waiter bring it back to the bartender to taste and she said it was fine....what??? i would have never left a bottle someone didnt like. disappointed.

Way over-priced. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this place. It makes you think you have traveled back in time and not in a good way. My chicken Orvilino (think that was the name of it) was dry and over-cooked. The rest of our food was mediocre at best and we spent a small fortune on it. I can't believe they think their prices are justified.

Food was just ok. Waitress/bar tender treated me like lower class and like I shouldn't be there, but the owner was very nice and welcoming. Have to give 4 stars and probably will try some place different next time.

Absolutely fabulous Italian. The sea bass was the best ever. What a welcoming and lively environment. Would recommend highly. Be sure to get the crab appetizer. The presentation is amazing.

Overpriced mediocre food. Not sure why they make the wait staff memorize and recite 20 detailed descriptions of "specials" (I'd rather just read it).

This place is pricey, but the food and service is well worth it. I was in baltimore for a conference for a week and ate out 3 times a day for a week and this was the best meal i had during my visit. If i ever visit Baltimore again this will be the first restaurant I go to!

This place is pricey, but the food and service is well worth it. I was in baltimore for a conference for a week and ate out 3 times a day for a week and this was the best meal i had during my visit. If i ever visit Baltimore again this will be the first restaurant I go to!

Absolutley horrible! The food tasted canned and frozen, the owner and chef seem to be playing a little game of hide the salami in the bathroom and were drunk and rude. I would not let my dogs eat here!

Fantastic atmosphere! Love Lynne on the piano! MaryAnn, Charley, and Anastasia made me feel like family. The onion soup, veal, and broccoli were amazing. What a pleasure/blessing for me!

We paid over $100 dollars for our two person meal only to get food poisoning from the crab linguini! My husband luckily didn't try any of mine so was able to take care of me.

I visited the restaurant while on business. The food was mediocre, and extremely overpriced. To top things off, our waiter was rude and patronizing, which made the dinner experience even worse. This is a shame since a lot of the other restaurants in Baltimore are quite good.

The food quality was horrible and the prices astronomical! I got a salad (bread plate size) and tiramisu that cost me $31! Service was ok, but not amazing! Overall it was a very disappointing experience and waste of money.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
