They really have good gyro's not like many other places grill the frozen gyro slices for you and wrap it in the pita bread, this one actually got the fresh on the gyro machine aka Döner Kebob machine, theirs is tasty and I had to order my second gyro after i was finished with the first one! Yummyyy I only rated the food bc the restaurant ain't that clean or fancy at all and staff aren't so friendly and its packed during lunch hours!

There's only one good reason why you would be passing by Crazy John's. CJ's is in the middle of Baltimore's famous "Block" where the nudie bars are. They are open late so you can go after the clubs close. Well I've been here a couple times, once very drunk and once not-so-drunk. Recently, I came here for lunch and order a delicious bacon cheesesteak. I've had their smoked sausage which is great. Check out the pictures of my sub. Not the meatiest nor the hugest but a tasty sandwich for a reasonable price. $7.68 for an 8" sub.

The food is probably better than it has to be given the location smack in the middle of The Block but food shouldn't be your primary reason for going to Crazy John's. Go because the folks that run it are incredibly nice and the people watching is off the hook. Cops, strippers and bouncers from the clubs on The Block, and confused tourists looking for Bubba Gumps can all be found at Crazy John's. Not to mention the people that come in to buy lottery tickets from bulletproof plexiglass-enclosed booth and play the pseudo casino gaming machines in back. As for food, the fish sandwich with red hots is my go-to but all the other fare is perfectly fine too. Be nice and have fun.

Why did I dine at Crazy John's? The same general reason Mallory scaled Everest, I guess: "Because it's there." It's not difficult disregarding it's colorful clientele. The myriad mix of souls of dubious distinction mingling amidst prickly exotic dancers geared up for The Block's booty shaking nooner shift at surrounding strip clubs are background noise. The Stuffed Tilapia ($10.50) with two sides was fairly enjoyable. Crammed with a creamy crab concoction melded with mustard, mayo, and celery salt. I didn't much care for the extra ingredient of shell. The dish's major magic is it's rich sauce. The Mashed Potatoes were smooth, but indistinctive. Brown Gravy basic. The Maryland Crab Soup ($3.75) was a bland vegetable soup with a shredded crab afterthought. The Southern-style Collards were nice. This joint used to serve a fair knockoff of a Polock Johnny's Polish down to it's "secret" Works condiment combination. Didn't see them last visit. Coffee's a mixed bag. Swamped with sugar at times. Not always the freshest pot. Why did I dine at Crazy John's? My specifics won't rival Mallory's: The proximity to work. The familiarity. The big portions. The likable staff. Diner fare's diner fare. Wholly, I've found Crazy John's diner fare to be on the better side of fair. Especially given it's locale smack-dab in the bosom of Baltimore's bawdy red-light district.

No. This will never be an amazing restaurant, and I believe A-OK fits the bill because.... There is a time and a place for Crazy Johns. If you come here during the day and you have any regard for your body, you're an asshole. If you are out in Baltimore at 2AM, when nothing else is open and you come here and snarf a few pretty good polish sausages when you're drunk. DING DING DING.....we have a winner. Crazy John's is here for when you are wasted or desperate. Dont take a date here. Take your friends you go out and get drunk with. And dont get the pizza, it sucks. However the breakfast sandwiches, subs and hot dogs are decent. This place sucks/is awesome.
