Only ate here because Loco Hombre is no longer. We had our mouths set on Mexican and this spot was even more a disappointment. Everything was just okay, not even good. And a lot of people were coming in to go to loco hombre to be subject to eat this basic ass menu at Alonso's.

I don't know why Alonso's doesn't have more positive reviews. Working on Falls Road, this is one of my favorite lunch spots. There's something on the menu for everyone - Mexican, pizza, sandwiches, burgers, salads. Seriously, it doesn't matter what you're in the mood for, there is something there for you. Every dish is pretty solid. I've tried almost everything on the menu: - Mexican (it's not authentic of course, but the burritos and fajitas are yummy) - Burgers - Not the best, but still very good. I don't eat burgers often so if I do get a burger it better be worth the calories. These are. There are probably 20 different varieties and you can swap out the burger for a grilled chicken breast or turkey, too. The bun is okay - nothing to write home about. THE FRIES - again, I don't eat unhealthy food all the time and I am a stickler for fries. These are good. Don't forget to ask for the malt vinegar! - Pizza - Very thin crust, different varieties (Buffalo chicken, etc.). Not the best and certainly not my first choice on the menu, but it will do the trick if you're in the mood for pizza. I'm a fan of NY style, but for the thin crust lovers out there, you will likely be happy. - Salads - I've had the fajita salad and the Cobb. Both were good. I was a bit disappointed that the fajita vegetables were raw as opposed to cooked (that makes no sense to me). Fresh greens, good chicken, a solid choice if you want to eat on the lighter side. - Chips and salsa - Meh. I do remember liking the queso though. At this point I've been here countless times and there's a reason I keep going back - it's good food and there's something for everyone. I've only gone at lunch so I don't know what the weekend and dinner crowd looks like, but during the work day you'll never been unable to find a table. Try it out and then go back and try something different. This place is worth a shot!

A very cozy atmosphere serving signature FULL POUND burgers!!!! The crab dip pretzel is the REAL DEAL!!! Fried green tomatoes with lump crab....OMG!!! My burger with fries was great! Def need to share; especially if you have apps. Their sangria was marginal - no fruit, nothing to request a second time. The service was not good. Slow. The chef didn't understand the various degrees of well done. 3/4 of us had to send our back. One came back a totally different burger than was ordered. Yet in all, I would return for the apps!

We had lovely family dinner here last night. The menu has something for.everyone, and the food was quite delicious. I had blackened salmon with a perfectly prepared risotto (appropriately toothy and tasty) while others enjoyed the imaginative burgers on the menu. we were tempted by the elvis burger, which sports.peanut butter and bacon, but enjoyed what we chose very much. and the bill for our little crowd was quite reasonable. our very cheerful and helpful waiter deserved his generous tip. We'll definitely be back.

Used to love the old Alonso's. It has been turned into a high-priced joint without any character. On the plus side, they did leave the little carry-out portion up front, so it is not a total loss.

Have eaten here before, let me preference this review with that. We have eaten at both restaurants, Alonzo's as well as Loco Hombre. We had been out all day at children's sporting events and needed nourishment. Our stomachs and watches were both telling us it was dinner time! Decided on Alonzo's for a quick dinner and then homeward bound. Husband had the "usual" wings and beer (staple in his diet ;), youngest had butter noodles (not much to report there), daughter had the sliders and I had ... well the peel and eat shrimp and a side salad. I ordered a pound of steamed shrimp. Mind you, they were very large shrimp but unfortunately we're not cooked correctly and the majority of the shell stuck to the shrimp as I attempted to eat them. A good bit of the shrimp was wasted, and non-edible. Frustrating! But the salad was yummy! Service was a bit slow and our waiter seem to be missing a good bit of the time. Drinks ran low and then empty. All had water, an iced tea for me and one beer for the hubs. Bill came, $78, yikes! Not sure if our next quick bite will be here?

Have eaten here a half dozen times since moving to the Guilford area of Baltimore 6 months ago. In general, it's been a great place to grab dinner or meet with friend for a casual bite. Alonso's has a casual/sports bar vibe, and has a number of large screen TVs, usually tuned to a Raven's/O's game or other sports channel. (I wouldn't call it kid-UNfriendly, but it's not Chuckie Cheese, if you're considering bringing younger kids). Our waitstaff has always been friendly and just attentive enough to keep glasses filled and plates cleared. The burgers and pasta (especially the lasagna and penne) have been great. The crab dip appetizer is amazing (but almost too much for two people if also having an entre each--not that I would call that a problem). Going again tonight (a Thursday) to check out their Trivia night upstairs (that area, like the attached Loco Hombre has it's own menu).

Have been to Alonso's several times, usually for their burgers, consistently good. Last night we splurged and ordered entrees with two friends visiting from Germany. The 2 salads, Greek and Regular were shared by my wife and I and our two friends. The salads were ample and the dressings were delicious. We ordered 5 drinks during the meal, one imported beer, 3 white wines, and one iced tea. The two ladies (one being an expert on good crab cakes, the other never having crab cakes before) ordered the crab cake platter (2 cakes) and the crab cake sandwich (without bread). Both ladies gave them high marks. Our male friend ordered the Tilapia entree which he said was very good. The problem came with my Chicken Parmesan. The Marinara was delicious, the Linguini was cooked perfectly, but the breaded chicken breast was like eating a rubber tire. I knew something was wrong when I first cut into the chicken and had to "saw" it three times before my knife cut through it. I tried to eat three small pieces and gave up. Our friends ordered ice cream for dessert (they only had chocolate). The bill came to $120 before tip. Fortunately we had a Groupon or I would have considered this very over-priced.

My friend and I came in for nice relaxing lunch, and that's exactly what we experienced at Alonso's. The restaurant was quiet and peaceful. We had just missed the lunch crowd. Mary, our server, was very nice. We both wanted burgers and they have the best - very fresh ground beef. I thoroughly enjoyed the Frenchie burger - baby spinach, herbed mayonnaise and brie - what a super combination. My friend had the Hangover burger - fried egg, bacon, jalapenos and cheddar cheese with fresh cut fried and raved about it. They have a long list of interesting burger combinations....try them out!

Wouldn't accept the groupon for carry out which wasn't disclosed when purchasing and didn't have several items listed on their online menu that we came in to order. Ended up getting food we didn't really want which tasted average. Overall not a great experience and probably won't return.

Dreadful! Choices of seating were with a screen showing some sporting event, under a speaker, or right in the blast of a window air conditioner. Unless you are a 20something sweaty guy, this place is intolerable!

OK- I'm gonna try to be constructive here. This is not a review of Alonzo's overall, which is a lively little neighborhood bar at the end of our street. Perfectly fine for beverages and bar food. This is just a review of a specific pizza, which we got as a carryout. Working hard on my online class, and desiring to not cook dinner, my husband and I decide that delivery pizza is the way to go. "Wait!" sez I. "How about we get some pizza from Alonzo's?" With the demise of S'getti Eddies, we're back to having Alonzo's, the venerable bar, as our neighborhood go-to for pizza. So I pick up the phone to call. Randy, my loving hub, expresses his desire for Meat. Ok, the menu can accommodate us-- I order the Meat Pizza for him. But I sometimes like to eat vegetables. So, the Vegetable Pizza for me. While the hub goes to pick up the pies, I picture the thick-crust, cheese-covered veggie pie from S'getti Eddies and slaver in anticipation. When hubby comes back with the boxes, I eagerly open mine up, and am greeted with the sight of a rather flat pizza. "It's OK, " I tell myself. "It will be a crispy crust." I go to pick a slice out of the box, and despite the score lines, an entire half of a pizza rises to me. And it's definitely not crisp. So I reslice the pizza, noticing the vinegary smell that is rising from it. Not just vinegar- balsamic vinegar. Which I happen to dislike. The pizza crust resists my attempts at cutting it. I try again. It is one of the most... resilient pizza crusts I've ever encountered. I manage to extract a slice -- well, two slices that won't come apart-- but the pizza is cold and needs a trip into the microwave. Eating hungrily, I note the pizza is composed of the highly resilient thin crust, a cheese overlay that keeps pulling away from it's base, and the vegetable topping. The vegetable topping is composed of eggplant, onion and carrots. Yes, carrots. One of the vegetables, probably the eggplant, is marinated in balsamic vinegar. Which really doesn't go with cheese. IMHO. This pizza could really use some work. I'd like to be able to get carryout from Alonzo's more often. But I won't be ordering this pizza again.
