This was our first meal in Annapolis -- we went for a Saturday lunch and the weather was absolutely perfect. Nice steady breeze and not too hot. The patio was the spot to be. Range of reviews of Severn Inn, but we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Food was pretty solid all around -- service too -- and with the view we had of the Academy and the water you couldn't go wrong. I had the seared tuna salad and wife got the crab cake -- she said was no filler at all and full of crab. The soup was pretty good as well.

We were able to get a table for 8 people 30 minutes before our reservation on a Friday night in June. It was a rainy night, but still impressive. The food was good - the crab dip and scallop appetizer were two favorites. Good service. The Yelp dress code says "dressy," but I think this is somewhere in between casual and dressy. I was wearing jeans and a nice top, and I was fine.

Our favorite restaurant! Delicious, artistically prepared meals with a stunning waterfront view. A haven for vegetarians and vegans who eat for health. With a few days' notice, Chef Nick will prepare meals based upon individual dietary needs. We request oil free plant based meals and ask Nick to prepare whatever inspires him. He creates beautifully prepared, delicious fresh local vegetables with a gourmet flair for us. Make sure Chef Nick will be there the evening you plan to visit. Linda is a fabulous server. Enjoy!

Bottom line up front - as others have said - if you are going for a nice view and a few drinks, then this place is ok. However, if you have a special evening planned, there are plenty of places nearby with similarly nice views, much better prices and a better experience overall. My experience this evening was not good, except for the very good waiter. We arrived a little early to our 5 PM reservation and were promptly told, sorry, but only the bar was open and that the main dining room and kitchen were not open until 5:30 PM. When I asked why we were given a 5 PM reservation if the dining room wasn't open until 5:30, the poor hostess was dumbfounded. She'd confirmed our reservation was in the system for 5, but, well, you know, the dining room and kitchen weren't open until 5:30. The website says 5, the hostess I spoke to when I made the reservation weeks ago said 5, heck the 2 different times I confirmed the reservation, one was earlier today, all said 5! Being Mother's Day, my wife had her heart set on eating here, so we decided to preserve and sit on the deck and wait for kitchen to reopen. It was there we met the only good thing out our dinner, our waiter. He tried to see if he could sneak us some food early, but was summarily told absolutely not, by the kitchen or manager or both is unclear to me. Anyhow, we had some drinks, cooled our heels and waited patiently. He did a nice job helping us psd the time. Eventually things started moving forward and sadly we took a turn for the worse. We were sitting outside on the deck and were presented dinner menus. I asked for a pub menu and/or a dinner menu... No, no, not tonight. You see, it's Mother's Day and there is a very limited menu. Seems odd given that almost every Mother's Day when I have gone out to dinner I see an awful lot of Moms out with their families that include children! Why go to such a fancy place for Mother's Day with kids you might ask? Well, for one, I've been here before and know they have multiple menus for the deck area... And two, it was not listed anywhere that there were special hours or a special menu for this particular day. From this day forward, I will know to inquiry about such things when I make the reservation. Even still, it may not have helped in the case given the time snafu we couldn't seem to get right. Live and learn, I guess. All and all, I supposed what really ticks me off, aside from the screw up in time, which could have been easily addressed weeks ago when I made the reservation, asked for the first seating and was GIVEN 5 PM, or the multiple confirmations between me and the Severn Inn via phone, is that fact that I feel like I got swindled. I ended up buying a $45 filet for my son because they couldn't make him a cheeseburger! Really? While I am by no means a regular, I have been here plenty of times before. I have recommended this place to a few friends and work colleagues and I used to have work lunches here from time to time. I have spent my last dime in the Severn Inn and will be sure to correct my recommendation with friends and colleagues. As for the food, it's mediocre at best and certainly not worth the price... For example, you can get a MUCH better filet a few miles away at one of a couple of different steak houses. There are also plenty of better and cheaper seafood options in the area. Steer clear of this place if you are looking for a special evening.

Must have been some changes in the kitchen as they are really nailing some of the Entrees. Past two visits have been rock solid and my halibut with corn cake last week was over the moon. There seems to be adequate staff even with the deck open. Chris at the bar is awesome! It's still pricey but the view is equally delicious. Need to retry the Sunday brunch.

Terrific dining experience. The restaurant has a beautiful view of the water and the Naval Academy. Service was impeccable and the food was delicious. Will definitely go again.

View was amazing. Right on the water! Food was well cooked and had an interesting flavor profile. They don't let you substitute anything at all! Didn't like that. My Halibut was $36 and the crab cakes were $40! Not worth he money if you asked me. Plate with crab cakes had pool of water in it. Hopefully that was from the fried green tomatoes and not from the crab. Menu was very limited. Had deviled eggs as an appetizer, i don't recommend it. All in all, the restaurants food needs to catch up with the level of ambiance this place has. Plus, they need to lower their price or up their food quality!

I'd go back again, even though my 1st impression was bad. My husband and I arrived on time for our 5:00 reservation and were greeted by 3 hostesses. Two were eating plates of food. The third asked if it was just 2 dining. Yes, my husband responded, two for dinner at 5 o'clock. Her response was that we could sit anywhere in the bar. We looked at her inquisitively and asked why, in a rather empty restaurant (it was the early part of the dinner hour) did we have to sit in the bar, especially since we had reservations. Her eyes got as big as saucers. "Oh, you have reservations?" SMH. Things are much better after we got seated. The view of the Naval Academy was absolutely stunning across the Severn River. Our waitress was phenomenal. The food was spectacular. It was the latter half of our visit that would lead me to go back again. Giving 4 stars because we'd rather not be greeted by hostesses eating plates of food and who don't have the sense to figure out you have reservations.

I haven't been to the Severn Inn in about 3 years...for good reason...this place really sucks! Food is way over priced, which I don't mind if it's good! $20 for crab cake appetizer..most other places in town around $13-15. Worst cream of crab soup ever besides coming out luke warm and without a spoon, it was flavorless and barely had crab in it. $10, most other places in town $6-8, needless to say I didn't finish it and that was all I ordered! I go back because the view from this spot is to die for, overlooking the naval academy on the Severn river. If you don't mind really bad food and subpar wait staff but love a good view you might not mind this place.

Amazing service and food at this establishment! The crab cakes and fried green tomatoes were to die for! Sangrias were amazing as well!

Found this spot by chance after Cantler's was too packed. And what a great choice it turned out to be. Brunch on Sunday was excellent, with a perfect view from the deck, waterside. All the food was top notch, as was the service. Would definitely come back again.

Swordfish tacos were perfectly cooked, not overpowered by the other ingredients. Two thumbs up! The cream of crab soup was a bit heavy on the cream and could have used more crab but did have a good crab flavor.

You can't beat this fabulous location, but after coming several times and trying different menu items, I am still very disappointed in the food. I agree with a previous post, if coming for drinks and a gorgeous view of the water, you won't be disappointed....just stay away from menu items.

Great view of the Naval Academy and Annapolis whether you are on the outside deck or the dining room. Had a fantastic lunch including artisan cheese plate, shrimp and crab salad sandwich. Highly recommended.

Don't order the Crab Cake. It's so small they should call it a kids meal. Jumbo lump crab cake my ass. Smallest crab cake I've ever seen around the area. Why would u take jumbo lump crab meat and shred it to fit in this tiny jumbo lump crab cake? They charge $20 for that. Never again Spoke to the manager and she was no help

Great view, but food used to be better. Now has lousy service too! Must be either different owners or they decided to cut expenses to the bone.

What a disappointment! I wanted to "treat" my hubby to a nice dinner for his first Fathers' Day and boy, do I wish I would have chosen another spot. Save for the amazing views on the deck, this restaurant was definitely not worth the money - the main reason being the food. Calamari appetizer? So breaded and drowned in sauce, you could have been eating breading alone and you wouldn't have known. Crab cakes? Just "ok." Definitely not a draw. Torilla-crusted salmon with lima beans and chorizo spinach sounded fine enough, but wound up being just a bunch of randomness thrown together and tasting as such. The salmon was flavorless, as were the lima beans. The chorizo spinach (although it didn't compliment the other flavors in the dish) was the best thing there and even that wasn't that good. As for dessert, nothing moved us enough to even try it so we went elsewhere. Our server was nice, but would disappear for long periods at a time which was bothersome because we were trying to leave toward the end. Also, there are no changing tables in the bathroom, so if you are visiting with a little one as we were (and as we saw other patrons with), you are SOL and no one there cares. Fortunately, our daughter held on until we left, but seriously, sucky. You are better off packing up your own dinner and eating at the park next door. Seriously. Two stars for nice staff and nice views, but that's it.

We were there for the first time Friday, 8/29/14. It was a perfect night to sit outside and enjoy the water. We got the artisan cheese plate which was perfect. And the rockfish....pricey but worth it. The service was great and the you will not find a better view in all of Annapolis. We will be back!

The Sunday brunch buffet and the view are truly amazing. Five stars for the brunch alone. I've been a few times... for lunch and for brunch. Lunch is decent, but brunch is awesome. For approximately $33/person ($21/kid) you get access to a buffet spread that includes all you can eat raw oysters on the half shell, prime rib, lamb, crab soup, and a whole bunch of other brunchy things. last time I went, there were fresh fried beignets and these delicious seafood salad on toasts that had sizable chunks of fresh crab meat. It is pricey, yes, but AYCE OYSTERS!! and a beautiful view of boats passing on the Severn River with the Naval Academy on the other side. The other thing to know about brunch is that they also offer a few dishes made to order, like an omelette or eggs, and you put that order in with your server (and it is small.) But you could easily go with eating strictly off of the buffet items as well. Plus there's a dessert section by the front door with a chocolate fountain. Sitting outside on the deck is lovely when the weather is nice. I don't know if there's a local restaurant with a better view than that. Also because it's somewhat removed from the busier parts of town, the restaurant has its own parking lot and it's free.

I went Severn Inn at weekend. Fish and Pasta was delicious. but Calamari wasn't good. Not crunch and sauce was too sweet. (MAGGIANO'S little italy restaurant's Calamari much better) Food was good. Service was horrible.. We(2 people) wanted to seat near by window so we asked her. She told us "that's the reserved table" so we got other table. But later..other people(3 people) asked her about exactly that table. She told them "The table for 4 people" but they had 4 people. so they got it. well.. \ / I dont really care about whether we had that table or not. Im not happy at all about SHE IS A BIG LIAR to us Food was good but not excellent. But I dont want to spend over $100 anymore with horrible service. It is not worth to visit this restaurant.

The location and views of the Naval Academy are five star. If anything, head to the Servern Inn and have a drink at sunset and you will be happy. Sitting on their deck outside makes me love being from MD. The food is mediocre and pricing high, so I can't gush forever on this place. Crab cakes were disappointing (plus I only eat crab cakes in MD, so I was doubly disappointed because of how little I get to eat crab these days). That said, for the setting alone I would come back to the Severn Inn.

Dined here tonight for the first time. My wife and I like our meals..oysters and soft shells and crab cakes...all damn good. Pricey place though. Views to kill across from the naval academy. Staff pleasant and attentive. We know good food and took a shot on this place even given the mediocre reviews...and at least the above items were strong offerings.

Ugh! I keep giving this place chances and am consistently disappointed. Without the view and the fact that they are the only restaurant/bar easily accessible to the North side of the Navy bridge, they would cease to exist. The food is average to unimpressive. The menu -- and there are six of them -- is as blasé as they come. It's the service that makes the experience beyond reproach. I had planned to email the general manager, but on second thought, realized that service, both good and bad, is a result of management. I figured it was futile, so am venting the easy way. Against my better judgment, my friend and I decided to meet for happy hour and an early dinner. We walked in to a nearly empty restaurant & bar at 4:30 pm last Friday. The three teenagers at the host stand were pleasant enough but ineffective. I'm not quite sure what purpose they serve. As a matter of fact, there seems to be a decent amount of employees just hanging out and watching TV or texting. We seated ourselves in the bar -- at an empty and dirty table. When the bartender/server, David, walked over with water, I asked to have the table wiped off. He snarled and sashayed off to get a rag. It went downhill from there. Seriously, we waited almost 40 minutes to order our second drinks. I timed it. It was that bad. At one point, David glided over and picked up an empty plate (that had been waiting to be bused for some time, and walked away without checking to see if we needed anything else. The clue would be that our glasses were empty and we had six freaking menus on the table. To sit and try to endure while paying $10-$12 for drinks (there is no happy hour) and $15 for appetizers, we gave up. We had rationalized the investment in a $20 cheeseburger and a $20 crab cake appetizer, but it had to end. We left -- noticeably disgruntled -- without any pleasantries. (we asked to speak to the manager, but she was busy with a private party). Somebody needs to reinvent this place. Start with some training. There is not excuse for nasty and/or apathetic service.

I have invited out of town friends to visit. The Severn Inn is my number one choice. The view of Annapolis is beautiful. I have enjoyed the sunset on a beautiful day on the deck many times with friends. It is the best waterfront view for fine dining Annapolis has to offer. The crab cakes are delicious. There is also a Sunday Brunch. The food is fresh and flavorful. The service is excellent. Parking is free and you do not have to walk far.

I have been to this spot on several occasions. The food is fresh and well prepared, both delicious and satisfying. The ambiance at dusk is second to none on a summer night! Cool breeze, shimmering water, and perfectly placed luminance add to the allure. I would highly recommend to ask for Christine whom ALL servers should be cloned after! She made for a magnificent last visit and has me and my wife wanting to come back just for her! Great experience!

We have really tried to love this place, but the horrible management will not let us. We were once regulars there. My wife loves Southern Comfort Whiskey and we always were able to order her drink there until they ran out. The next time we ventured in the waiter said they were out of SoCo. The bartender asked the waiter if it was a blond lady asking. So now it was just out of spite that he refused to order SoCo. We also love Libations in Severna Park and the Manager of Libations knows of our story and told us she mentioned it to the manager at a meeting and he felt bad about the situation. Severn Inn and Libations have the same owners. So a few weeks went by and a phone call was made to the Severn Inn and the hostess was bothered by my asking for SoCo and I asked for the manager. A few minutes went by and then I was hung up on. There was also an email sent to their website, where they asked "How can we make your experience better?" And of course my email was never answered. Why do they want to chase business away? Will never go back now. Their Loss.

Had a lovely lunch with out of town friends here. Super view of Annapolis across the water. Outstanding BloodyMary, one of the best crab cakes I've had (no filler detected) served with fried green tomatoes and a delightful corn salad. Service was all right. I recommend it!

At a friend's suggestion/request, I ventured to Severn Inn for a birthday lunch. Located in the beautiful MD state capital of Annapolis, Severn Inn is a quaint restaurant located right on the water and a short distance from the Naval Academy. It bills itself as a modern American seafood house. The decor is definitely upscale and they take advantage of their setting by having large panel windows, which allow you to take in the beautiful view. The service is friendly and professional. Hostess was very engaging and the waitress was knowledgeable and efficient. The lunch menu is a bit small, which is not my preference. I like options! I started off with the Baby Iceberg Wedge, which is served with crispy onions, cucumbers, tomatoes and blue cheese dressing. The salad came in a moderate portion size and was nicely presented. All the veggies tasted fresh and crisp. My only complaint was that it was lightly dressed. More dressing please! The appetizer was the Ahi Tuna Trio, which featured tuna tartar, sashimi and spicy sushi roll. The spicy rolls were fantastic. They were on the small side but packed big flavor with a little kick. The sashimi was fresh and had a nice texture. The tartar reminded me of cat food I see on tv commercials. It was also not particularly appealing taste-wise but that may be more of a preference thing. For the main course, I had the Grilled Cilantro-Lime Marinated Fish Taco. It features flour tortillas, spicy black beans, guacamole, spicy jicama slaw, sour, fire roasted tomato-chilli salsa and and queso fresco. The fish mixed well with all the toppings. The portion size was a little smaller than I would've liked. Additionally, the tacos were good from a diner or lower end restaurant standpoint but for a higher-end establishment, it was just ok. Great gesture by the restaurant to bring out a complementary dessert for the birthday girl. It was basically chocolate lava cake with ice cream. Nice touch Severn Inn! Prices are ok as two appetizers, two entrees and beverages came to a little over $60. I'm not in any rush to come back soon but I think in the spring time sitting on the patio, eating and enjoying a light breeze while taking in the view of the water would be an fantastic experience.

Outstanding restaurant venue in Annapolis is with a spectacular setting. The menu is very good with a great assortment of culinary choices. Always well prepared and very delightful. The bar/ lounge also seems to be very nice also. Most of the Staff was very cordial and the service was what you would except in this type of restaurant. This venue is ideal for any occasion, anytime of the day. I would like to try it during the evening hours with a clear sunset. The main views from this restaurant over the water face west over the the Annapolis skyline in the focus. That would definitely add to the splendor of dining here. A bit pricey compared to most Annapolis restaurants relative to the portions, but I still highly recommend.

One of the best water views in town. Looks out on Severn River and the U.S. Naval Academy. Nice outside deck. Great food. Expensive, but worth the price. Reservations are a must.

I went here today for brunch and absolutely loved the food, the atmosphere and our view. Me and an old time friend of mines from graduate school decided to meet up for brunch. We were headed to Miss Shirley's Cafe but when we got there it was a 40-50 minute wait. We googled Sunday brunch in Annapolis and Severn Inn popped up. So we decided what the heck let's go there plus we saw all the great reviews. I'm so glad we decided to detour because we had a great time. The wait staff was beyond nice, the food was great, and our view of the water was nice. I had the vegetable crab soup which was amazing, waffles, grits, fresh fruit, spinach omelet, bacon and a few desserts. I loved the chocolate fondue setup that they had as I indulged in the chocolate marshmallows and strawberries. The carrot cake was also pretty tasty. My favorite was the soup as I indulged in two servings. Mimosa's and Bloody Mary's were also included. We have decided to make this spot our regular brunch spot! I definitely want to come here for dinner on a date night with my hubby to give it a try!!!!

I loved this place. While the brunch price is a little higher than other establishments, it's well worth it. They have a wide variety of foods for brunch...from breakfast to lunch type options including a raw bar and an amazing dessert table. But the best part was the bottomless mimosas!! They were fantastic and whomever made them was heavy handed...if ya know what I mean. Our waiter was Johnny on the spot with everything we needed and EVERY time I was about to finish a mimosa he had a fresh one ready before I could even ask. And lastly, the VIEW....OMG. It's spectacular! I actually have reservations for this coming weekend and can't WAIT for my friends to experience this place!

Went in late May as a belated Mother's Day celebration with my kids. The Sunday brunch is to die for. Sat out on the patio on the water. Food is great and included in the price are drinks. Wonderful food and venue. Would highly recommend!

After an absolutely terrible experience at The Boatyard Bar & Grill, we went to the Severn Inn for the first time. The food and atmosphere were fantastic. We scored a riverside table on the deck and had a great time. The Clams Casino were delicious! We've lived in the Annapolis area for 30+ years, but this was our first time here. We'll be back!

Applebee's or any other run-of-the-mill chain restaurant can beat this place. First letdown was my fault: I assumed they served brunch on the weekend, but if I read the other reviews closely, I would have known that it was only on Sunday. Anyway, aside from that, it's not even easy to see the road that leads down to the parking lot. Once me and my boyfriend arrived, nobody greeted us at the front for a good few minutes. The hostess was on the phone and after about three minutes, finally acknowledged us and said she'd be with us in a few minutes. I'm not sure if her clothes could have gotten any shorter or any tighter without popping off. She never did help us get seated and one of the servers finally came to get us. During these five minutes or so, several staff passed us without even saying hi and the place was anything but crowded. We get to our table and I realize that the place is freezing. This is kind of a given with its proximity to the water, large windows, and the fact that it is February, but I know they could have kicked the heat up a bit. The server for our table was nice; that was the only plus and the only reason I could give the place one star. When the guy who initially seated us said brunch is only on Sunday, he rushed away without even answering any of the questions I could have had. Anyway, the official server comes and I ordered a hamburger/fries; my boyfriend gets the Mahi Mahi fish tacos. The food was terrible. My hamburger was completely tasteless; no seasoning whatsoever. The toppings on the side were extremely watery and because they were not separated, the taste of the pickles and onion were melded in with the lettuce and tomatoes. The fries were hot, but they were very dry which indicated to me that they'd likely been microwaved and were not very hot because of freshness. There was no fresh grease or anything. The old bay on them was overdone and the serving size was ridiculous for a $15 dish. I didn't even take my leftovers home. My boyfriend's fish tacos were the pits: tasteless, stale tasting, etc. He used my onions to try to give it some life. The tortilla chips that came with his plate tasted like Fritos. The server did ask how the food tasted, and she was so nice and we were so resigned that we didn't bother saying the truth, just smiled and said in unison that everything was good. I'm not sure why Severn Inn even called me the day before to confirm my reservation given the lack of people there (my reservation was for 11:30 AM). All in all, we found it to be a really, really bad experience, and I'm not trying to be sarcastic at all when I say that I would have done better picking up some fried chicken from Royal Farms instead. Nothing could ever entice me to come here again. I should have followed my first mind early on, and left for Ms. Shirley's Café before we were served. The only thing that was good were the views and the server's pleasant attitude. Bad starts to Valentine's Day weekend happen here.

Two words: Service sucks! They have staff that definitely do not match what caliber the restaurant is shooting for. They have more of a pub staff rather than a white table cloth establishment. Order your food to go then steal a spot on the deck and enjoy :/

I've lived here almost 4 years and had never been, so when I saw a Meetup group that had decided to give it a try for St. Patrick's Day brunch, I jumped on it. First of all (and the only negative I can say), the woman behind the hostess stand was, to put it bluntly, nosy. I arrived about the same time as another member of the group (who happened to be male), whom I had never met before. I asked the hostess if any other members of the Meetup group had arrived yet, and she started a game of 20 questions...."What in the world is Meetup?" "Oh, is it a dating group"....No, it's not. It's just for people to get together and socialize. "Oh, so it's only for singles." No, it's for anyone who wants to meet new people and try new things. "Oh, so it IS a dating group." NO....IT'S NOT A DATING GROUP!!!!! OK, moving on....... The view here is amazing, as others have pointed out, and there really is no bad seat. Sitting right on the water with a great view of the Naval Academy, the only way it would be bad would be if fog was obscuring it. When we were taken to our table, we walked past a table of desserts, some of which looked really great and others looked like the standard fare from a Chinese buffet. I did try some of them later, and was disappointed to find the cake very dry, but the chocolate mousse in chocolate cups was AMAZING.....I definitely recommend those! For brunch they have a pretty decent buffet, and also will get you an omelet or eggs Benedict made to order if you want. The server did say that they do the eggs in orders of 1 egg per order, but will do more if you want, because people tend to fill up at the buffet, which makes sense. And brunch does include unlimited mimosa, bloody mary, or champagne. The food selection on the buffet was very good, with everything from cheese grits, biscuits and gravy, pasta, salmon, and a "french toast lasagna" that you just have to see and taste to believe. At $30 a person, it's a little on the pricey side, but when you consider it's all you can eat plus the unlimited drinks, it works out. It's not a place I'd go every weekend, but can definitely see myself coming back occasionally.

Family (14) met for Sunday Brunch on November 2, to celebrate in-laws' 60th wedding anniversary. Setting was elegant and views of the Naval Academy across the Severn were spectacular. The dining areas offer floor to ceiling picture windows, so everybody gets a great view. Our large group was well treated by the attentive wait staff. There was a broad selection of standard breakfast/brunch choices, all as finely prepared as one would expect for the $33/seat price tag (excluding tax and tip). If you opted to stick with these (and most did), then you were simply enjoying an expensive breakfast (and dessert) in a fine restaurant. This meal, combined the elegant setting and fine service, would earn 4 stars. However, the buffet also includes oysters on the half shell, jumbo shrimp, crab claws, along with hand-carved prime rib and leg of lamb. And the Buffet price includes unlimited Bloody Mary's (excellent) and Mimosa's. What I'm saying is that if your brunch appetite leans toward lunch (and drinks), then the Brunch buffet at Severn Inn at $33 can also be viewed as a decent deal. If you groove on oysters (and bloody Mary's), then you have the deal of the year (5 stars). We arrived at 10 AM, just as the restaurant opened, but the large dining room(s) were soon filled to capacity. You probably need reservations for whatever your arrival time turns out to be.

We went to the Severn Inn today for a group Christmas party brunch. I can honestly say the only positive experience was the check in girls and coat check, after that it went dramatically downhill. The buffet options were very bland tasting absolutely nothing on the buffet had any flavor or taste whatsoever. The logistics of getting a plate and stepping to the buffet didn't make any sense and bottlenecked from the very beginning. Seemingly benign buffet items such as macaroni and cheese, grits, and creamed chipped beef were all obviously from a box. The prime rib was chewy and had no taste. We were offered a type of egg and I chose a ham cheese and onion omelette, this is pretty hard to mess up. However, they even managed to mess this up. I believe this was a one egg omelette that tasted like it was cooked in a microwave. On to the dessert area, none of the items were made fresh in the restaurant. Another disappointment all items are from a box or prepackaged items. The entire wait staff seemed agitated and did not want to be there and didn't seem very friendly. All in all I would give this a negative star but that is not an option, this will be the only time eating at the Severn Inn.

Great view surrounded by the Naval Academy, food might be for those with a higher palate than mine (but the burger was okay!)

3 years ago place was excellent, today it was overpriced and very disappointing. The calamari was swimming in sauce, overcooked, and not hot. The much touted crab cake appetizer that comes with fried green tomatoes and corn salsa was very sloppy and the cake itself was drenched in a butter sauce, don't believe the menu when it says fillerless. Their prices are crazy high. On the positive the view is great and service was above average. If you want a crab cake, drive to Davis' which has been consistent last 25 years.

From the outside the restaurant appears quiet and unassuming. Once you enter it's welcoming and charming. The menu has an extensive variety of land and sea fare. I had the Moscato and Seafood Cobb salad. The ambience is hip and happening. Perfect place to relaxt after a round of golf. Prices comparable, Full dinner menu is pricey depending on your selection. Food is delicious and fresh! Servers were courteous, quick and attentive. Will definitely visit again and recommend to family/friends. P.S. Added bonus: the gorgeous water front views, especially at sunset!

Best Sunday brunch I have ever had buffet style. The service is excellent and I have been at least four times. Every time is as good if not better then the last. As for the money the bottomless bloody marys or mimosas are worth that much. If you want the best experience make a reservation and request a window seat close to the buffet. I also suggest arriving right when they open because you will get the best selection first. Now I will admit if you sit by the bar it is not as good of an experience service wise.

Ode to Severn Inn's No Filler Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes -------------------------------------------------------- "Nor virgin-choir to make delicious moan" Keats, Ode to Psyche I waited for my crab cakes hungrily, And, on the sudden, fainting with surprise, Saw two fair creatures, couched side by side On grilled corn salad, delicately glazed Atop fried green tomatoes, where there ran A pool, of Old Bay butter sauce, ** I sigh ** O crab, lowest born, but loveliest vision fair Of all Poseidon's abundant bounty! Fairer thou than Triton's firm rockfish, Or the Bay nymphs' oysters, dredged from the Chesapeake; Fairer than these, though your blue shell is gone, And your backfin picked of all its jumbo lumps; A virgin-choir will make lascivious moans For this delicious dish; Yes, I will be thy priest, and sing thy fame On Yelp I will proclaim delicious eats Let no one dis' this poem or call it lame, Or say I can't compare to the Poet Keats

I visited Severn Inn for Sunday Brunch and really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. We were a large party (of 9) and we had a reservation for inside. They do not take reservations for outside but the maitre'd was very accommodating and was able to push tables together for us to have a beautiful view of the bay while we were dining. The buffet consisted of everything you would want for brunch: fruit salad, garden salad, raw bar (oysters, shrimp), your typical breakfast food (waffles with an assortment of toppings, blueberry cream-cheese french toast, bacon, cheddar grits), as well as some lunch options (broiled fish butternut squash mac and cheese, carving station of prime rib) and a dessert bar (cannolis, lemon squares, petit fours, brownies). This was perfect for us because everyone was able to find things that they liked. Another great perk was the bottomless mimosas and bloody marys. I would definitely recommend Severn Inn for Sunday brunch!

After crossing over the Naval Academy bridge and making that right, take your first immediate sharp right and you'll see the yellow Severn Inn and a little park under the bridge. GPS left me in the middle road a little past the turn off. Woa- where am I supposed to go now? Best part about this spot is that my friends love it here and it was their anniversary. So we enjoyed the fabulous view on the river and enjoyed the cool breeze outside on the patio. I'm glad I was under an umbrella because the sun peeked out. $30 Sunday brunch buffet. Service was non-existent for the most part. I appreciated not being rushed but wished they would have checked on us more and cleared our plates between trips. I enjoyed all of these things but nothing that I need to write home about: Champagne and mimosas Coffee and soft drinks Sushi bar Creamy cheddar grits Stuffed french toast Southwestern Quiche with avocado Fresh berries! Homemade buttermilk biscuits and creamed chip beef Assorted pastries and cookies with chocolate fountain (everything looks better than it tastes) They also had: Omelet and eggs benedict made to order Pasta and stir fry station Penne pasta Southern crab bisque Applewood smoked bacon Maple sausage Home fried potatoes Fresh fish Waffles Beignets Roasted prime rib Roasted leg of lamb Salads

The Severn Inn is nearly all it's purported to be. We got there early for our reservation, and were seated right on the river. Andrew, our server, was young, eager to please, and very good at what he does despite his youth (he turns 21 later this month). We began with cocktails: mine a perfect Manhattan and the missus a Vineyard Fizz. Both were outstanding. She had the Severn Inn salad, which she praised, and I the wedge salad. My only complaint of the night was the lack of bleu cheese chunks on the wedge salad. Liquid dressing just doesn't do it! She enjoyed the shrimp cocktail app, which was again outstanding. I chose the Three Tuna app, which was a treat to remember. She chose the pan seared scallops for her entrée, and I picked the grilled swordfish with mango salsa on a bed of Jamaican red beans and rice. Both were absolutely superb. We paired a white burgundy with these dishes, which worked out well. Desserts were again superb. Our compliments to the bartender, Lauren, who makes a great Manhattan, and to Andrew, our server. He is still young enough not to have taken on the snooty air of many of the others who are working at the Inn. I don't understand where these kids come off acting like we owe them something. They're here to serve us and nothing else. We're not here to cater to their self-indulgent fantasies. All-in-all a wonderful experience. I'm sure we'll be returning, despite the bevy of egoists children cluttering up the place.

This is our occasional brunch location, but I certainly look forward to those occasions. The location is right across the water from the Naval Academy (Go Army, Beat Navy). I'd suggest making reservations as it can be hit or miss on how busy they'll be. There are 3 places to eat (depending on the season). The dining room (reservations), the lounge (walk-in), and outside (in nice weather). There is little difference between the dining room and the lounge, except that the bar is in the lounge, seating looks generally the same, with lots of windows for great harbor views. If the weather is nice, sitting outside is awesome (but bring sunglasses!). The deck goes right over the water, so you'll have waves and breezes join you while you eat. The food is plentiful and tasty, with a great split between breakfast and lunch (I guess that makes sense, but some places don't keep it even). Some things ( omelettes and eggs Benedict) are ordered from the kitchen and brought straight to the table (which is great to avoid standing there waiting for it to cook). Otherwise the food includes a mac and cheese bar (this is cooked for you at the station), cut meats (lamb, prime rib, turkey, etc), sauasage/bacon/quiche type stuff, lasagna, fresh fruit/granola/breads, smoked salmon/shrimp/oysters, and of course the dessert bar (including chocolate fountain). Mimosas and bloody marys are included, as is coffee. Everything is great, fitting it all in your stomach is the hard part. They open at 10am and last seating is 1:45pm. Parking can be a hassle, but if you have an off road capable vehicle there are some grassy areas you can drive onto that wimpy cars avoid. We've only had that issue once, so not a big concern. The dress isn't formal, but I'd say be "dressy" or you may feel awkward. Most people have on slacks and shirts, or sundresses. I wore decent looking jeans and a button up shirt and felt fine about how I was dressed. They have highchairs too, so kids are welcome! It is a bit pricey (I think it's about $30 a head after tax and such). Which is why we go rarely. But for an occasional brunch treat, it's worth it.

Food was good. Service was horrendous. We had 6 people with us and they tried to seat us at a table for four. What?!?! They never came back for drink refills. We had to go to the bar for our own. The server sat at a neighboring table and ate a meal with friends/ family (obviously while on her shift). She never checked back with us. Total waste of money.

Food = Fantastic! The crab bisque was the best I have ever had. Bread was artisan. The flash grilled salad was delicious. I had the blackened mahi which was perfectly done and served with grits and grilled veggies. Loved it. My wife had the shrimp pasta and for the first time didn't leave a restaurant with a take home box. Service = Also fantastic! Our waitress Zoey was great. Helpful, fun, easy going but with a professional air, and she knew her wine, beer and menu. Someone else said it too but it is worth repeating. Zoey's pacing was perfect. Was there when we needed her and then not. The whole meal was also well paced with enough time to enjoy our drinks and bread, the starters, then the meal. View = The perfect topper to a great experience.

We chose the Severn Inn for Sunday brunch for a reunion of 40 people in late March. It was perfect. The waitstaff was wonderful and attentive, and the food was varied so lots of choices with excellent preparation and presentation. The location is great with a beautiful view and plenty of parking. I would definitely go there again and would recommend it for a large group.

Well, I chose to come back here last night to sit by the water and have dinner. I've never been fond of the food and the service has always been average, but truly, the view can trump both. However, after sitting at the bar waiting for my table for just short of 5 min without being offered a menu or even questioned if I'd like a drink, I left. I've been here several times for happy hour, work meetings and just to relax, but will never return again.... I went to Heroes Pub and within 30 seconds of sitting at the bar, I was greeted, offered a menu and asked what I would like to drink...,

I have been to the Severn Inn about 4 times. The most recent time being New Year's Eve dinner. I have never been disappointed by either service or food at the Severn Inn. The wait staff are all very kind and knowledgeable about the menu. My drinks were never empty and the bread basket was always being replaced. It is a wonderful place and it never disappoints. My most recent visit was by far my favorite visit. Obviously we started out with drinks and the bread basket. I love bread. Bread baskets are one of my favorite things. The bread baskets came out with some amazing warm bread. I would go to the Severn Inn and be happy with just the bread! It's that good! For the appetizer I got the grilled hearts of Romaine salad. I ALWAYS start with this. Every time I come here I tell myself I will try something new for an app.. it never happens. Every time I think about the salad my mouth gets all watery and I start to crave it.. like I am now. It's a grilled, warm salad. It's always grilled to perfection. Then it's topped with applewood smoked bacon and crispy onions. I'm not a huge fan of bacon but this bacon is DELISH. & The onions on top made the salad even better. The dressing is a creamy dressing. Ohhh so delicious. For the entree, I ordered the sea scallops with the beef short rib. Everything was cooked to perfection. I asked to substitute sides and that was not a problem! The place also has an amazing view. It's a waterfront restaurant and the dining room overlooks the water and across the water is the Naval Academy. It's a beautiful view. On New Year's Eve, you could sit in the dining room and watch the fireworks across the water. It's absolutely amazing. I can't wait to come here again!

We love this place. It's pricey but it's worth the adventure. If you go, try to go when the weather is good and sit out on the outdoor deck. It's glorious, the breeze was perfect when we went and we enjoyed the view of the Severn and the Academy across the way. We went for dinner with some friends on this occasion and sat outside. We all reviewed the menu and there are some amazing dishes to be had. Everything we have ever ordered has always been over the top yum (except for the fried pickles - that is an acquired taste). They give you all the menus, but what you do not realize is that the Pub menu is smaller less expensive versions of the regular dinner menu. We all ordered from the Pub menu and enjoyed our meals. I had a crab cake dish - and their crab cakes have NO FILLER! Yup, it's all the good stuff - well worth the price. Gus had a small person's meal - which was salmon with green beans - but they do not skimp on the children's menu either - it's fantastic. Neil had fish and chips which he devoured, and I know our friends ate well and enjoyed their meals too. So all in all great eats! Great view, a bit pricey but worth the trip (at least once in a while). Remember to save on some dough and some serious calorie intake - just take a look at the pub menu or just drop in for lunch. Most dishes are American but they do have hummus/med platter in the apps, they also have a lot of seafood and meat dishes for all tastes. We have also always found the service fantastic (except the hosts - sometimes they seem a bit dingy). And they do have a Pub area besides the dinning rooms and outdoor patios. For the size of the location they do a great job to make you feel like you are dining in an intimate restaurant.

I really like the vibe in this restaurant. Beautiful interior, great location overlooking the Navy Academy and Severn River. Rockstar and I love coming here for drinks and appetizers, which we did Friday evening. Great outdoor and indoor seating choices. Awesome appetizers and great bar drinks. They pack them in here so parking can be difficult. Typical Annapolis restaurant prices, expensive but worth the atmosphere. Vital Statistic: When the place is packed service can be a slow, so be patient and order two drinks at a time. I do not feel this is a great price/value. A liitle pricey for the food quality level but still a great establishment to visit.

We went with friends and sat outside to be faced with beautiful views of the Naval Academy. The waitress did not know how to pour a bottle of wine and emptied the bottle into four glasses. However, we ordered from the snack menu and I had a beef salad. The beef was cooked to perfection and I would definitely go back and eat there. The location means it is quite a pricey place, but for a special occasion is well-worth it.

Another great Annapolis Sea food restaurant with an awesome view of the Severn River and the Naval Academy! We were there for restaurant week. I had the cream of Asparagus soup, Seafood El Diablo and a fudge brownie with ice cream dessert for $30.00. The food was excellent! I'll have to come back and check out the rest of the menu. Looking at some of the menu items, it looks like it has some cajun influences. They had blackened catfish with cajun spices and even the Sea food El Diablo had a kick to it. Be aware the prices are pretty steep for non-restaurant week dishes. At about 830PM on a Thursday night, it was pretty dead there. But it was very nice and very quiet. It seems like it would be a very nice place for a romantic date. Will have to get the boyfriend to take me back. Don't know what this place is like during tourist season or on the weekends, but it looks like a place where all of the yacht clubbers would end up at.

My girlfriend and I spent our first Valentine's Day dinner at the Severn Inn and it was HORRIBLE!!! I'm just going to list what went wrong.... -Our waitress didn't know the menu very well (i.e. how many oz. is the steak?) -Every time our waitress came by our table she said she would come back to refill our water. We only had it refilled twice throughout the duration of our dinner (an hour and a half). Although my girlfriend didn't mind, I had to drink her water. -It took almost 50 minutes to get our food out!! -My girlfriend ordered her steak medium well and it came out medium rare. She also switched out one of her sides for pasta and it was extremely salty. -We made a complaint to our waitress and the restaurant was going to buy a dessert for us ($8). Nothing sparked our interest so the manager took off $5 from our bill. What's wrong with that picture? -Lastly, our waitress was unable to multitask. She had to give one table their bill first and return to the kitchen before moving onto another table. Hence why we were there for an hour and a half. I do NOT recommend the Severn Inn

I took 2 colleagues from work to dinner last night. The food was great and the view was absolutely outstanding. The server Linda was extremely knowledgeable about not only the wine list and food but the scenery as well. She has worked there for 9 years and I know why. She was one of the better servers I have encountered in the area. We started out with an appetizer which was a medley of great tasting seafood. The shrimp were big and the stuffed clams we not just stuffed with bread crumbs which I have encounter at other local spots. We followed that with Severn Inn Salads which were a meal in its own. The dressing was just right and the salad had the perfect combination of romaine, onions, peaches, and sunflower seeds. For dinner I had the " Lupe's Seafood Stew which was Awesome. Just the right amount of seafood with an unbelievable taste. I was impressed when Nick the chef came out and asked us how our meal tasted. The ambiance was exactly what I needed to pull off a business meeting while eating great food. I am New Yorker who moved to the area 10+ years ago and I have had a real tough time with going to a nice restaurant only to be disappointed by the either the sub par staff or bland food. I can sometimes find a place that has one or the other but it is very rare that I find a place that has both. This is one of those few places. I would recommend it to all my friends.

I went last year and I don't think I will return the food was good, but the portions were tiny. I ordered the flank steak it was $20, but small. I asked if they made a mistake and they said it was 10 oz before they cooked it. No where near 10 oz, I was starving when we left and I had to grab something on the way home. Flank steak is one of the cheapest cuts of meat and they basically told me to F off. I don't mind the high prices, but at least give me something for the money. Try Carroll's Creek or Charthouse.

Awesome dining experience today at Severn Inn. Scallops fantastic, large and moist. Perfectly prepared. Tasty sauce. We had a poised and friendly server by the name of Sara. If you go to the Severn Inn ask for this young lady. She is wonderful with service, attentive, but not hovering. Always ready to fill you table needs. I am sure the other servers are good, but the next time I go back I will specifically ask for a table where Sara is. Hasta luego, Lou K

The one questions Annapolitans will continue to ask.... have you been to any great, new, seafood restaurants lately? The answer is always, "No." The fact is, Annapolis has two very distinct types of restaurants in the area. The tourist trap downtown restaurants that tend to be overpriced for the quality of food but ALWAYS packed and then some fine dining establishments that are scattered throughout the outskirts of the city. Severn Inn continues to try to be something that it is not. Yes, the restaurant has the best view that all Annapolis restaurants would kill for. Yes, the building and the dockside dining are very pleasant in appearance. And, well, yes, Severn Inn probably has the Best Brunch in Annapolis, especially when you factor in the food you can get and bottomless mimosas and bloody mary's for $30. However, this review is to detail a typical dining experience at Severn Inn. I have dined here for my Anniversary on a Saturday evening, for a Graduation Dinner, a casual Sunday late afternoon meal, and celebrated both my birthday as well as my wife's. To say that I have not truly tested the restaurant in every way, shape, or form is an understatement. All the while, my consensus remains the same. Severn Inn is mediocre. They are not consistent with their quality of food and their service is ALWAYS subpar. If you want to offer a menu that suggest fine dining (especially given the price) then you need to offer stellar service and I have never ONCE received that at Severn Inn. The service is always forgettable, and the food always shows glimpses of hope but I haven never had a completely over the top dining experience at Severn Inn. Like other Yelpers have stated, the crabcake on the fried green tomato is worth coming for. $18 for an appetizer portion may be a little much, but it is far superior to their other appetizer options for close to the same price. Their grilled caesar is decent, but also not worth the money. As for entrees, I have had crabcakes, rockfish, tuna, beef tenderloin for two, and a shellfish medley. While the crabcakes and beef tenderloin were exceptional (the tenderloin was a special) the rest of my meals have always been hit or miss. I will continue to frequent Severn Inn, but no longer will I ever go for dinner. I will go late in the day or early evening and order some appetizer and sandwiches off the pub menu for now on. I will NEVER order the seafood salad ever again. The salad was in the $20 range and said it would be served with large gulf shrimp, scallops, and crabmeat. The scallops and shrimp were an ABSOLUTE joke and Severn Inn should be ashamed of themselves for even serving it. Take the item off of your menu before you resort to opening up a can of scallops and shrimp to put in a salad. They were the absolute SMALLEST pieces of seafood I have ever witnessed. As others have commented, the service is below average here. On my last visit, a bunch of young teenage servers were eating food (I assume between shifts) out on the dock bar. This is a no-no in my book. You can't strive to be a fine dining establishment and have your wait staff standing amongst guests eating food. If they are working a double and you want them to be able to eat food between shifts, then have an area in the back kitchen or a back room where they can do so. To allow such nonsense to go on while diners are present is a disgrace and there is no reason for it. It just puts the entire establishment into a bad light for me.

I've been here twice over the last year - once for a business dinner and once, today, for lunch with a friend. The view is spectacular - overlooking the Severn River to the US Naval Academy. On a bright, sunny day, it's really, really nice and when it's warm they have beautiful outside seating. The food is tasty, well prepared and interesting. Sometimes I think it's a bit too interesting with a lot more fluff than it needs. You can go casual in the bar area or a little more dressed up in the dining room. If you're thinking about an evening meal, dressy is the way to go. The servers are all friendly, courteous and quick. Food portions are plentiful without being overwhelming. You just have to be prepared to bring money. This ain't cheap but it's Annapolis on the river so it's reasonably priced for what it is and what you get. A great place for a business meal or a special date with that special someone.

This is my favorite brunch place. It is a little hard to find so don't rely on your GPS. It is your first right after you get off the bridge by the Naval Academy and it is a big yellow building. It's a great spot when the weather is nice to sit out and enjoy the view of the water. Sometimes the service isn't great, but it is a buffet so at least you don't have to wait for food. The reason I keep coming back here is the Southern Crab Bisque soup. Traditionally, crab soup is really creamy and heavy and I can't eat a lot of it, this soup is not made that way and it is amazing. There is a made to order omelet station, oysters, shrimp, waffles, roasts and all regular traditional breakfast options. The french toast with fresh berries is a stand out. The last time I went a new addition to the buffet was sushi and it was great. There is also a dessert bar if you have anymore room left. Brunch is around $28 but mimosas or bloody mary's are included.

Well, we certainly had high hopes for the place. Visiting our son at the Academy, we went with friends who go here often. Even they were less than impressed with this visit. Place was packed with Academy grads from all the way back to 1957 so there must've been some attraction. You're paying for the view here, folks. Food is average, for the type of place it is, although I will say the crab cakes and french onion soup were very, very good. All else was mediocre. The filet mignon and crab dip was rather flavorless. Service, although friendly, was less than professional...local kids working for beer money. Another reviewer comments on the staff "dining room" on the back porch as we walked to our car. Pretty cheezy. More disconcerting, our party of six was automatically charged a 20% gratuity on the TOTAL bill, including tax and booze! WTH? When brought to the Manager's attention, her response was pretty much "Oh well..." Take away the view and, well, you've got a run of the mill, mid-price American "bistro"...of which there are dozens...most of which are better values than this place. If you must have a view, then this is the place...although, when we retired to the outside patio for after-dinner drinks, two of our party were startled by the dock rat (~8" long) that darted across their open-toed shoes. Pretty sure they'll never recover from the shock!

We have had some very mediocre dining/service experiences here, but for whatever reason we kept coming back to give it one more chance. The past two visits have really been enjoyable so I hope this trend continues. The first time "back" was a matter of convenience as we were driving by and didn't want to deal with downtown Annapolis. It was the middle of the day, neither lunch nor dinner time. We were seated outside, where the water view, of course, is awesome. When I got the menu I was pleasantly surprised as it wasn't the one I was used to. After asking the server, he confirmed that the menu had been changed some time in March/April 2010. The new pub offerings (only available after 2:30 PM) were varied and plentiful. They offered raw bar/sushi, salads, sandwiches, soups and numerous small plates. I actually had a really tough time deciding but I opted for the mussels in white wine garlic sauce. A spicy tempura sushi tuna roll was also chosen. The broth was fragrant, well seasoned and definitely dunk worthy. The mussels were plump, plentiful and fresh, The side of homemade "pommes frites" were really good but would have benefited from being served Belgian style in a cone receptacle so they stayed hot longer. The Spring breeze instantly cooled the plated hot fries. The tuna roll was awesome too, so we were really pleased with our midday meal. When we had guests from out of town a week later, we decided to try our luck again. We arrived a bit before 2:30, so we shared some wines by the glass and the crab dip app, before the "pub menu" became available. I'm pretty done with ever ordering the ubiquitous crab dip but I never complain when out-of-towners request it since it's often a rare delicacy for them. Again, the Severn Inn surprised. The bubbling crock was flanked by a small, warm, multigrained baguette on one side and house made Old Bay seasoned chips on the other. Everything was fresh, well executed and delicious. I even spotted some lump in the dip which is often MIA elsewhere. When the pub menu arrived we just decided to share some plates which included a smokey lobster mac-n-cheese, a crab cake served on a corn salad and fried green tomatoes, and the French style mussels. Everyone was happy, and I actually thought the crab cake was quite excellent and loved the little sides that came with it. The pasta tasted homemade and the dish was studded with lumps of lobster and either ham or prosciutto (memory lapse). It wasn't overly cheesy (a good thing). Only one tiny complaint was that the smokiness of the pork over shadowed the delicate taste of the lobster. That said the dish was still delicious and well received by all. Severn Inn might be joining the ranks of the few local waterfront restaurants that don't just rely on their locations and views to bring in customers but actually care what's coming out of their kitchens. And that is a very good thing.

For years, the Severn Inn was rowdy, pretty dumpy handout, with little to recommend it. Late at night, it was scary - too much drinking, too many guys looking for trouble. So when a friend recently recommended it, he had to assure us that it was a new place. And so it is! We went on a blustery late afternoon, when rain was threatening, and decided to chance the deck for dinner. We were lucky - could see rain in the distance, heard the thunder grumbling, but we stayed dry. I started with the crab bisque, and it was to die for - large lumps of crabmeat in a smooth, creamy bisque. Then followed it with fish tacos, which were very good. My husband had the mac cheese jambalaya, which he loved. It was definitely really good food. The service a little less so - we had to wave our waiter down a couple of times, and couldn't find him at the end, so someone else brought our check. It was not all that bad to have a bit more time looking at the view, so no major problem. Definitely will recommend it to friends.

Do not rely on your GPS to get you here! The GPS devices in our car and smart phones led us to a small residential neighborhood not far from the actual location. The restaurant itself is located nearby, at the base of the bridge. And what a location! The view is something else, quite lovely! The food is very good. I never had crab cakes before and couldn't on this trip because I'm eating gluten-free now. The fillers normally found in crab cakes are wheat-based. But this place makes their crab cakes with no fillers! Divine! My only complaint: the crab cakes are very pricey. But they are large and worth having at least once. And now, here's a testament to the fine staff at the Severn Inn: I left my wallet in the ladies room and didn't realize it until dessert. I jumped up and ran back but it was gone! (Natch. Duh!) I asked the first server I saw if someone had turned in a wallet. He brightened and said everyone was looking for the wallet's owner and brought me to the manager. The manager asked me my name and address and then handed over the wallet when I answered correctly. I had a lot of cash in that wallet. When I surreptitiously took a peek at the contents back at my table, absolutely everything was there. Every cent. Nothing missing. THANK YOU, STAFF AT SEVERN INN!!!! You saved my trip!

Severn Inn has a great location and view. At night, the view of the USNA and bridge is amazing. In my view, this view makes it the perfect place in Annapolis for date night, or a special occasion. In fact, my wife and I held our reception dinner here. The filet is always cooked perfectly, although I do not think it's the best in Annapolis. The meal will be pricey with a bottle of wine, but the food and scenery makes it worth it. Make sure that your table is alongside the windows overlooking the USNA.

Amazing! I can't understand a 3 1/2 star rating - food was exquisite, view was spectacular (the best I've found in the Annapolis area in 10 years) and the service was perfect (ask or Linda). Can't recommend it strongly enough - sit on the deck, have the seafood sampler for an appetizer with a side of assorted cheeses, then enjoy the ribeye (Delmonico) steak - it's the best - oh did I mention they have a wonderful assortment of wines - the Caymus Cabernet was perfect! It gets 5 stars from me.

My husband and I are long time fans of the Severn Inn, however the food quality and service seems to have declined in the past few years. We usually go for dinner but stopped in for Sunday brunch and sat at the bar. The view of the Naval Academy is fantastic! The waiter/bartender stopped by after 15 minutes of us sitting there. There was only one other occupied table at the bar so we found this surprising. The mimosa was good (hard to mess that one up) but the bloody mary was disgusting! The brunch was over priced for the quality of food provided. Everything was just "meh" - I've had better and worse. The eggs benedict was very good, the lamb at the carving station was chewy, the bacon was soft, not crispy, the pulled pork mac and cheese didn't really have any cheese, the oysters looked rough, the peel and eat shrimp were defrosted from frozen...just blah. Definitely not excited to go back.

6 - 8 visits so far, and I'm still waiting for a great experience. The servers have all known the menu well and are above average, but must have too many tables, because I've run into long absences on multiple occasions. The food, is trying to be high end, but it just doesn't get there, so you end up with small portions of fresh food that you wish was better. I really want this place to be more than it is now. It's beautiful inside and out, and it could be amazing with some keen wait staff management, and some help in the kitchen.

So... went here for fathers day... we had reservations for 4... one person couldn't make it and the host tried to sit us at this table that was meant for 2 people... we explained to her that this would be a little cramped for us... and then she tried to make an excuse for why it would be fine... I then told her it wasn't going to work... So she sat us at the bar area... no biggie... we had an amazing view of the water... and my dad was happy with it... The food was GREAT! and the servers and chef's were very polite. Our poor waitress had to handle tables and the bar... but she did a really good job and was very apologetic when we had to wait a little for our drinks... All in all it was a really good place to be on Daddy's Day!

We went to Severn inn after our sail. The patio was crowded but the place was pretty dead inside and since it was still pretty hot outside we were happy to just sit at a table next to the window. I came here with some really high expectations and I was sadly disappointed. Our server, while efficient seemed a bit off, I think we might have been her last table for the night, but even so I expect the save level of service and it just wasn't there. We ordered cocktails, by far the best part of the meal. I got the Hot Flash and the hubby got the Sweet Tea Mojito. Both were refreshing. We ordered calamari for an appetizer and it came with an Asian sauce. Mostly covering the entire thing. I thought this was odd because in my opinion at a seafood restaurant you want the seafood to stand out not be covered by a sauce. But once I bit into the calamari i understood. It wasn't good calamari. It was chewy and a few bites were fishy, not good. For entrees I got the crabcakes and fired green tomatoes and the hubby got the rockfish. When we asked the server if the fish was fresh/local she was cagey with her answer, that should have been a red flag. The crab cakes weren't jumbo lump and for $40 I expect jumbo lump. The fried green tomatoes were good but were covered with a slaw that make them loose their crisp quickly. Hubby liked his fish but was really disappointed with the black beans and corn that came with. They were undercooked and the beans were crunchy, again for $36 we expected more. Hubby really wanted something sweet but I just wanted to cut our losses and leave,, so he got the brownie sundae and surprise surprise it was disappointing. Brownies were rock hard and not flavorful. I doubt we'll do a meal here again, maybe just drinks and the pub menu? Severn Inn you are really disappointing.

If you want to take someone out in Annapolis and avoid the crazy Ego Alley scene, this is probably the place to go for a fantastic view of the mouth of the Severn River and across from the Naval Academy. I'd say you are mostly paying for the view as I have not had any particular meal here that is remarkably memorable. It's a shame that the food isn't as amazing as the view. The bar scene and outside area are fun though, so it's probably worth a trip once a year to enjoy a nice evening.

I finally made a long overdue trip to Severn Inn last month and came away disappointed--that I had waited so long! And John is right...this is a beautiful space with a stunning view...and worth suffering the slings and arrows of Eastern Shore-bound traffic to sup here. Took a client and his wife in May and we were oh so boring: chateubriand and lobster with iceberg wedge. There were other salads I can't recall, but their top-shelf items were very nice, and included some splendid al dente asparagus (note to steam table: why must so many spears be so maltreated by so many? If these guys can do it, so can you!) When it first opened a year or two ago, it was pretty roundly panned so I avoided. I had rez here for last Valentine's Day but a sick kid caused cancellation. Still, this place is a couple miles from my house and we eat out 3-4 times a week, no reason it shd have taken this long. If you were one of those who tried the Inn during those first few tumultuous months, you owe it to yourself to give it another try.

I gave this four stars b/c the food is decent and the view is fantastic. It's very romantic and a perfect place to take your signficant other. I had my usual which is the crab cake. It's a yummy lump crabcake on a corn salsa with a butter sauce. Extremely good. I've had a couple of different appetizers, a blackened shrimp, shrimp cocktail and the crabcake. All very good. I've had salmon and crabcake entrees and again fresh good food. My only reservation is the hit or miss service. I've had great service there very welcoming hosts and attentive service staff, but then I've had terrible service. One time our waitress was Mariam and she was very nice, informative about the menu, and most of all friendly. We recently went on a Saturday and sat in the lounge area and our waitress was Jeanette. She was okay. Really didn't check on us and couldn't crack a smile to save her life. Who wants to go out with their spouse and spend $200 without good service. At one point, she even slapped down a utensil. How dare we ask? Would go back again for the view and the food, but I hope I get a good waitress. If you don't like people, don't be in a customer service industry.

Lovely Sunday Brunch, especially if you get a great day and can eat on the deck overlooking the river and looking across to the Naval Academy. Endless mimosas and bloody marys. Save room for great desserts that can give you a week long chocolate fix.

Im only giving 2 stars because of the fantastic view. The food was not up to par. The atmosphere in the dining room needs some upgrading (liked the bar area). Service was ok. Would not go back - unless it was just for drinks outside or at bar.

Came here for brunch with a friend at the recommendation of the concierge at the Westin Annapolis. I love the location of this place. I like how it's right off the bridge and you get a good view of it from the outdoor patio area. And you're right on the water which is also kind of cool. When we went the weather was pretty much perfect (though a wee bit windy). The food was pretty decent but nothing to write home about. The brunch was a $29.99 buffet which I thought was pretty neat. The stuffed French toast was tasty, but the Maple sausages didn't have that "zing"/spiciness I was looking for. The biscuits were strangely tasty as well, along with the fried potatoes. They also had a pasta selection where they heated it up in front of you on a range. My friend loved the lamb they had out. There was a chocolate fountain at the dessert table which was a good level of "chocolateyness". Selections there included strawberries, crispy rice and marshmellow squares, creme brulee, carrot cake, and coconut cake. It was a pretty decent place to stop by and eat. Service was kind of mediocre even though when we went it was nowhere near packed.

Great view and good food=a return. The main negative we had was the poor service. It seemed the waitstaff was short that day, or stretched to serve more tables than reasonable to increase the waitstaff tips. The crabcakes were great! The fish selections also were delicious. The oysters were over-rated. Very reasonable selection and price of wines by the bottle

Lived in Annapolis for more than a decade but had not been to Severn Inn since they opened several years ago and finally made the decision to stop for a quick lunch today. The food was fantastic and the fresh bread was out of this world. A small detail to beer snobs like me was that the glasses were so clean that the head and the lacing of the beer were perfect, which indicates a good tasting beer free of adulteration from soap residue. Our waitress was professionally dressed and friendly without trying to be our best friend. We'll be back, if this is a consistent representation of their service and food.

The Severn Inn is by far one of my favorite restaurants in Annapolis. It's right across the river from the Naval Academy, which means it has a fantastic view and parking is never an issue. I've been here a few times and had very interesting experiences... however I always came out with a smile. For example, one time we sat outside and then a freak hail storm drove the entire deck inside, but we all found tables and easily continued our dinner. Another time, our waiter gave us drinks, took the food order and then disappeared. After 45 minutes, we asked another waitress and they said he went home!! But the other servers scrambled to make things right and all was well (they thought we were only there for drinks and so didnt bother us). Besides being hungry, we didn't even care because the inside atmosphere was great so we just enjoyed the view and continued relaxing & talking. I do have to say that we have always sat in the bar area rather than the restaurant because of the prices. But the bar menu is fantastic! They have crab maccaroni and cheese, a delicious crab cake, thai lettuce wraps... seemingly something for everyone. I have not had a bad meal here, but since it's a little more pricey than I'd like, I save it for more special occasions like a friend visiting for the weekend. You have to show off the beautiful Annapolis waterfront right?

My husband and I went to Severn Inn after our first day trip to Annapolis (we just moved to D.C. from Boston a few months ago). The atmosphere was fantastic; we sat on the deck right on the river. For dinner, I got the tomato salad and the Massachusetts rockfish and he got the wedge and Texas redfish. They were amazing! We had a wonderful waitress (Patricia), and had so much fun watching the ducks swim right next to the deck in the river. Dinner was perfect. The two hostesses were a little harsh when we first arrived. We came early for our reservation, but the restaurant was almost empty (it was a very early dinner). The hostess still seated us at a different table and then told us that we had to come back up to be reseated, but after that was all sorted out, everything was great. I'd definitely recommend.

LOVE the deck view! The food was fine, modern, good portions, not sure it's worth the price tag ... service was good. Mom and I ate off the snack menu. Plenty of options and very accomodating, when no one has reserved the main dining area for parties.

Brunch was good. Lots of selections and the Bloody Marys were included. Eggs Benedict was tasty. Cheesy grits were delicious and probably our favorite. Fruity French toast/bread pudding also very yummy. Price was moderately expensive, but not outrageous for what they offered, including the view. This is the type of place to enjoy a nice gathering (catch up with friends, parents, bday brunch) on a Sunday afternoon. The view of the water and Naval Academy is so pretty! I'm sure we'll be back at some point.

Nice view and okay food but if I spend over $100, including tip, for two adults and a four year-old then the food should be spectacular and I shouldn't be hungry when I leave! I felt like I had been robbed.

This place has a great view, whether you sit inside or outside. I went here for brunch the other day. The server was very nice and accommodating; I went with my parents to visit my grandmother, who made requests- a certain this, a certain that, she wanted new silverware everytime she got a new plate at the brunch buffet, and he did everything with a smile. They had a nice crab soup (a little peppery, but not bad) and a decent selection, especially for the tail end of brunch. Regular breakfast selection- bacon, sausage, you could customize your own omelet, home fries (made with lots of peppers?), etc. there was also shrimp, lasagna, and meat cut for you as well as a small salad bar. Decent food selection for that time of day and I can't complain about anything- and like I said, the view bumps it up a star. Oh, and their desserts were good, too!

This restaurant was an excellent choice. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is only because it didn't have vegetarian entrees. I ordered a nice appetizer salad and what was listed as a starter portion of truffled mac and cheese, and they were both tasty. The mac and cheese definitely could have been shared. It was much more than a single serving given its richness. The bottom of the menu says that vegetarian and vegan entrees are available upon request, but when I asked my server, I learned that you can just choose a few sides. My husband had the starter crabcake, which he said was the best he's ever had, and one of the daily specials as an entree. The wine list was extensive and reasonably priced. The views were gorgeous despite it raining while we were there. I would love to return and sit outside on the deck. They also have a functional boat dock, so you can come by boat to the restaurant as well. Finally, our GPS did not take us to the restaurant; when you come across the bridge and make the first right, you have to take another immediate right into what appears to be a park beneath the bridge to get into the parking lot. The restaurant doesn't have a large sign anywhere.

I had a great experience. The service was on point. The food was great. I started with the coconut and butternut squash soup and was not dissapointed. I enjoyed the seafood stew for dinner. The flavors were robust and yummy. I think it was the best seafood stew I have ever eaten. The rest of my dinner party were pleased with their meals and desserts. I will go back again. View was awesome. Can't beat Annapolis waterside.

Incredible brunch! $28 - huge buffet including sushi, and your traditional hot and cold breakfast foods, carving station, and all the mimosas and bloody mary's you can drink! Everything was delicious. The view was also amazing since it is right on the water. I will definitely be back!

I give this Restaurant five stars for the view. Two stars for the menu and service. Service is slow and unprofessional. My husband(Vegan) and I visited today on this beautiful Sunday afternoon. After reviewing the menu which had NO vegetarian dinner choices we consulted with the waitress who told us that she didn't know if they had any; they may have had a couple but needed to check first. I specifically made clear not to serve my crab dip till we could put an order in for a Vegetarian dish. Twenty minutes went by without the waiter taking an order for my husband. I was served my dinner without my drink order. To make a long story short: My husband had beverage and NO FOOD. I had food and NO BEVERAGE. This is not my idea of going out for a meal and drinks with my husband!! TWO stars for this place is probably overrated...

Visited on a recent visit to Annapolis with the 'rents. Dad wanted a meal with a view, and all the reviews of the Severn Inn suggested that this was the place to go. Here's my assessment: View - fabulous. We visited on a perfect evening - clear blue skies which melted away into an incredible sunset and finally, a crisp clear night - and had a great table on the lower deck. The view on the Severn River looks over at the naval academy and the bridge (bay bridge?) - it is a calm, quiet and relaxing location. Overall, the view and the ambiance on the deck was worth the trip. Food - the food was good. Definitely not fabulous, but good. Calamari was ok (I recently had the calamari at Lebanese Taverna in Alexandria, VA - and nothing has quite compared after that). I was looking forward to their Mahi entree, but they ran out of Mahi - so I chose the Rockfish. It was well prepared, but they could have laid a heavier hand on the seasoning. My mom got the tempura tilapia - fish and chips style - which was quite good. Dad got their no-filler-crab cakes - which he said was superb. So overall the food evened out. Service - disappointing. We went on a tuesday night but for some reason the place was packed. Our server did give us a heads up that they were busier than usual and the kitchen was running slow. Generally, they appeared short staffed and it resulted in poor service. Overall - I would go back for the view, but I might opt for lunch instead of dinner. I do think that it is a bit overpriced for the quality of food that we were served, but then again - it factors in the great view.

I used to be so enamored with this restaurant - view, location, sunsets and of course, the menu! But service was never very good and has gotten downright bad (past 3 visits) and tonight, the dinner menu was BOR-ING! I ended up just getting the "Simple Preparations" grilled rockfish because nothing else seemed enticing. While it was cooked very well - there was no flavoring - I asked and received lemon and would have asked for salt and pepper but did not see my server in time (oh - only one other table at the 5:30 hour). My husband's meal of grilled shrimp was okay but sparse, the wedge salad unfinished - too many onions and lettuce was old. My son's kids meals were barely eaten and they were hungry. $164 could serve me much better at other locals faves. I suggest sticking to lunch menu and appetizers and do not expect good service.

Nice views. Decent ceviche. Didn't have dinner here. Only appetizers at the bar. I'd definitely come back if I could score a table outside. Kinda off the beaten path since there is nothing really around it.

we were there last summer (2010) with friends who were from out of town and wanted soft shell crabs (which the Severn Inn had). The Severn Inn was VERY busy that night. I was amazed. We had been there when they first opened and didn't think they would make it. The view is to die for - the food and service average. They have an outdoor deck space which takes advantage of the good view. I think if you want GREAT food, don't go to any waterfront spot. If you want a drink, appetizers, salad, whatever that doesn't take too much effort or is just ordinary, go to the Severn Inn. It will meet your expectations. My choice for for good food and a great view would be Skipper's Pier in Deale, 20 miles south. They have amazingly good food for what looks like a modest restaurant.. When you sit on their deck outside eating and look at the water a few feet away, you feel like you are on the outer banks in NC. Plus the food - last time we went (summer 2010) was exceptional.

I can't believe how terrible the food was! I paid $40 dollars for a Filet Mignon which tasted like it was covered in ketchup. I wasn't the only one who was disappointed. My friend and her boyfriend were completely disappointed by this place as well. I don't mind paying for fine dining but if I am paying a lot then I expect the quality to match the price. The only thing which was decent was the shrimp. All appetizers are about $15 to $ 20 bucks. The service was also lacking. The only good thing i can say about this place is that it has a lovely view. I would only recommend this place if you just want to sit and have a drink on the deck. Do not order entrees.

I have VERY bad feelings about this restaurant. I know I should probably give it another try, but the anger still simmers... I made a reservation there for Mother's Day and requested a table for 2 by the window. No problem,,. I had called enough ahead to get one. When we arrived, I was told that only parties of 4 could sit at the window and we would have to sit in the middle of this warehouse style setup even though ALL of the window tables were open. When we asked to talk to the manager we were left waiting in the middle of the restaurant for what seemed like ages until finally I tracked the hostess down again who was just standing talking to a waiter. When I asked about the manager, she said (I swear) "Only parties of 4 can sit at the window" We left and had a great meal at Cafe Mezzanotte. Later, I emailed the manager who initially claimed to care about my complaint and then never responded. Yeah...maybe I'm not going to try again....

Absolutely outstanding restaurant, quality suitable for anniversary dinner (which this was). Excellent salad (grilled romaine lettuce with onions & vinaigrette dressing), followed by arctic char over mashed potatoes, with mushroom aioli and a crispy (lightly fried) spinach, side of delicious grilled asparagus. Same (char) for my wife. Dessert was a shared ginger creme brulee, and a glass of Lagavulin 16 (a spectacular 16 year old Scotch) on the rocks for me. Dinner came to $125, including tip. Very extensive wine list (about 10 pages long) if you're a wine person (I'm not) and several good selections of draft beer were available too. Outstanding views of the Naval Academy across the Severn River, as The Severn Inn is located right next to the MD450 bridge across the Severn River. I would definitely go here again for a special occasion. My wife and I loved it.

Great meal for my wife's birthday -- the crab dip is the best in town, and I have tried them all! the green bean tempura appetizer is FANTASTIC. Filet was perfectly cooked with a wonderful mushroom sauce. My wife and I said this may take Lewnes' place at the top of our list of favorite date-night restaurants! The view is incredible, and on a Sunday night in June, we had no problem getting a great table on the expansive patio. They take Open Table reservations, which has become my favorite way to go. Highly, highly recommend! Only drawback is price -- compare to Lewnes', O'Leary's, etc. in the "priciest in town" category. We were at $100, w/ tip, but we were not drinking at all. With drinks, expect $60/person.

We ate at Severn Inn a few years ago during restaurant week and loved it. The food and service were great. We decided to try it again on Saturday night 4/14/12. There were 6 of us and our reservation was for 6:45. We were seated at approximately 7:00 pm. The restaurant was busy. Our server showed up about 5 minutes after we were seated to take our drink order. We ordered two bottles of wine and a few cocktails. Twenty minutes went by before we received our drinks. They finally put some bread on the table and took our dinner and appetizer order. I ordered oyster stew ($9). The appetizers were brought out in a reasonable amount of time. The stew, for the most part, was tasty and had plenty of plump oysters; however, a few of them were cold and tasted fishy. It took a while for our entrees to be delivered. I had a Salvadorian Seafood Stew ($36). It had crab meat (sparse), shrimp, mussels and a lobster tail. It was good, but for $36, you'd expect a little more. We shared a few desserts. The only one I tried was a hazenut-chocolate cheesecake. It was very dense and wasn't what I expected. I can't say it was bad, but I've never had a cheesecake before with the consistency of a brick. Total time at the restaurant was about 2 1/2 hours. Although we were seated in the middle of the dining room, the view was still great. Unfortunately, two hours after I was home, I was vomiting and couldn't come out of the bathroom. I was in there all night and was still sick throughout the next day. I called the manager to let him know what happened and he apologized and credited my seafood stew and oyster stew back to my credit card. Bottom line: Food is OK for the price. Drinks are expensive ($8 for a Stoly and tonic), Service is mediocre. My wife and I dine out often and doubt that we'll go back to the Severn Inn for dinner. I hear that the brunch is good, but $30 per person is getting up there when there are other choices around the area.

I live in Los Angeles and every time I am in Annapolis I have to stop by the Severn Inn. The food is scrumptious and changes all the time. I crave their brunch, and drool over the view. Professional & Delicious restaurant for Weddings and Parties. It is just an all around great restaurant.

This place is the best waterfront dining in Annapolis, from what I have found. The views of the Naval Academy across the Severn are beautiful. The food is also very good- the dinner menu is pricey in my opinion, but they allow you to order off the pub menu outside as well, which is much more affordable. The fish tacos are delicious, as well as the Thai Shrimp Stir Fry. They also have a solid burger, and a great selection of beers on tap! The service tends to be on the slow side sometimes, but over all a really great dining option in Annapolis!

Beautiful restaurant on the water, to make it even better there is a large patio with outside seating. Rather sit inside? The walls facing the water are glass so you still get a beautiful view while dining. The menu is the perfect size, enough so that you have options without being overwhelmed. Appetizer choices are great, including a cheese plate where you can choose three to five cheeses from a list of seven or so options. The main courses were excellent, their only downfall was not having a vegetarian option. I'm sure I could have asked, but I prefer to not have to do that and generally go with a meal of sides. We didn't save room for dessert, but that didn't stop us from ordering. They were delicious and just made me more full then I ever thought possible. While our table didn't have the best of service (not even close), I noticed other tables did, so I'm not going to downgrade the stars just because we got stuck with the bad waitress.

Was there last night with friends from Annapolis. A bit pricey, but the food is superb. We ordered appetizers and salads in lieu of the full blown meal. That was a good route to go. The crab cakes were superb and my companions had those. The grilled romaine salad was superb as was the asparagus salad. The only less that stellar entree was what was billed as Korean short rib tacos. Was good, but I'm still wondering what made them Korean. Of course the fact that I'm Korean may have something to do with that. Hmmm, adding a lil sesame oil to something does not make it Korean and they were a bit dry. My comapnions opted for ice creams/sorbets for dessert and were pleased. I opted for the cheese plate and was quite happy. The waiter was knowledgeable and helpful, especially on the wines and cheeses. I enjoy a place where the waiter really knows his stuff. What really makes the Severn Inn (besides the food) is the ambiance. It really is a beautiful setting. And, I like the fact that the place is relatively quiet and you can enjoy the company of the people you are with. Minor nit pik ... they serve farmed Canadian salmon. Standards for salmon farming in North and South American are much too relaxed. I don't think good restaurants should serve farmed salmon, but, hey, that's just me.

I went to a 16th birthday party during August for dinner. We were seated in the back room, it was early dinner so not many people were there. The restaurant is very very upscale, so be prepared to spend a lot of money. We started off with a cheese sampler. You picked from an assortment of cheeses, but they were very small thin slices! I was disappointed. The platter cost 18 dollars for a few thin slices of cheese and a dollop of honey? Then we order appetizers because we were full from the free bread. I order the Jumbo Lump Crab Cake. Once again, the portion was small and the green tomato was a bit soggy underneath all the crab cake and corn salad. The crab was very moist, which I liked very much- I just wish the portions were bigger! The staff members are very friendly and quick though-points for that! And the view on the patio is incredibly beautiful. You can see the Naval Academy across the water. Overall, only go there if you have money and eat in portions.
