Love everything about this place, our cook was entertaining and funny, sushi was delicious, waiter was kind, and price wasn't bad for hibachi and sushi!

The food and service were pretty good for a chain! We had chicken and rib eye teppanyaki. The cook was not only entertaining, but cooked up some pretty awesome food. Kids devoured their chicken teppanyaki, the soup, the fried rice and veggies. The rib eye was cooked medium rare and exploded with amazingness in my mouth. The hot green tea wasn't bad either.

I had lunch after walking out of another nearby restaurant where I had been ignored so I started out a bit cranky. I was seated quickly at the sushi bar. A server came for a drink order within a minute. The sushi chefs were personable and very helpful. The sushi was very good (not great). The ginger dressing on the salad was a bit watery but otherwise fresh and tasty. The miso soup was quite good. I had the sushi regular and then a hand wrap. I'll go back.

I've been getting sushi here for a few years now if that tells you what I think of the place. It's a fairly new restaurant (I think it opened just three or four years ago) and has two distinct atmospheres. First there's the main dining room, which consists of those rectangular tables where multiple parties all sit together around the cook while he/she prepares your dish with flair. You know, lobbing the eggs up in the air, juggling the utensils, and tossing food into your mouth to see if you can catch it. Kinda "disney" but if you like that, this is your place. And then there's the sushi bar, which is where I prefer to hang out. It's a decent size bar with about 12 seats. Maybe more. I didn't really count them. But one thing I always like about sitting at the sushi bar is that there never seems to be any wait. I usually come here with my date on Saturday nights and we've never waited. I'd also like to add that my date is always my wife. Just in case anyone was wondering. And another thing I like about this bar that's kind of a secret...if you sit on the far right or left of the bar, it's semi-private. You'll see what I mean when you get there. Try to get one side or the other and you'll get a little more privacy. I like to think of it as my own, personal, blue-collar version of the VIP Section. Once seated the first thing they will try to bring you is this free Miso soup. It's not bad, but honestly it looks like someone scraped their ladle deep down into a sewer just to see what they'd come up with. And this is it, served direct to you. But again, it's not bad. Just looks a little scary. So anyway, the sushi is very good and well-prepared. They usually have two sushi chefs assembling the pieces and they clearly didn't just learn their art yesterday. The menu is vast and has some local favorites. Some of our favorites include the Rainbow Sushi, the Crunchy Shrimp Rolls, and the Baltimore Rolls. But don't neglect the special menu, which is up on the chalk board above the chefs. Sometimes they'll hand you a menu that contains the specials but usually they don't. So look up at the board and try one or more of the specials. Some of the best pieces I've had here have been on the special menu. My two faves off this menu are the Volcano Rolls and the Texas Rolls (I've added a photo that shows all of these and more). I've always liked Texas and now I like their rolls. It can get a little loud during weekend nights when multiple flair tables are going. And you get the occasional wooossshhhhh of the flame as they ignite the peanut oil. If it's winter, the heat will feel good as it hits you. It's all part of the experience. Oh and Sakura is open for lunch too but the hours are a little crazy. Saturday they don't open until 2 pm so it's late lunch for you. But most other days they open at 11 am. Sakura remains our favorite local sushi spot. Check it out. You won't be disappointed.

Sushi is pretty good. Nothing to complain about....good atmosphere and always a friendly staff. Their take out usually takes about fifteen-twenty minutes, and they are reasonably priced.

I was very surprised at my most recent visit to the Annapolis location. It was my first time there, and was not our intended destination for dinner that night. We came out to go to Lemongrass Too, and arrived at 9:17p. They close at 10p, as does Sakura. The young lady at L-Too told us that their kitchen closes in five minutes, "...Sorry!" Mind you, I do not like to keep folks after they close, but at 9:17 there should have been absolutely no reason we couldn't be seated. So, we walked out, said a few critical words under our breathe, and started to drive off. Luckily, I noticed Sakura just a few doors down, and pulled in a spot and checked in the window to see them seating another party of 2, so we decided to give it a try. Typically, I avoid the "Disney" type Hibachi and chain sushi restaurants, but given the time of day and how hungry we both were, we went in. What a great decision! They welcomed us in, offered us seats at either the Sushi Bar OR Hibachi grill tables, and would have had a Hibachi chef cook us whatever we wanted. Lucky for both of us, all we wanted was a quick sushi dinner, so we sat at the Sushi Bar. The environment was lovely, it was quiet (even with a Hibachi birthday party going on!), and the servers were all very welcoming and appeared to be happy to be there. The sushi chef started talking to us, joking that we were having a midnight snack, and my girlfriend said that we had come to eat at L-Too, but they had "booted" us, so we came by Sakura. He was very funny, saying that they were a second-choice, and that we didn't really come to see him, but was very glad that we came in. When we first sat down, they took our drink order (two waters) and had them in front of us before we could even have a good look at the menu, and when we placed our order, we had asked for two miso soups, which they brought out and mentioned that they were on the house! So we initially ordered three "special" rolls, which were all delicious, and were out in front of us very promptly. Once we finished them, the chef was making a roll that looked very interesting, so I asked which one it was, and he said "This is the Girlfriend Special" that he was making to bring home to his girlfriend. So I commented that she was fortunate because he knows the delicious combinations that make for an excellent roll, and asked if he was looking for a boyfriend, too! (Joking, of course...) After a few moments of chatting, he mentioned that it was "last call" as he was going to begin cleaning up the sushi bar. I asked him for one last item -- "a spicy tuna hand roll... Or eel hand roll... Surprise me!" He then created a DELICIOUS creation, combining two large slices of eel with a spicy hamachi (yellowtail) and fish roe mix, avocado, cucumber, and some sprouts. To say it was delicious would be an understatement. Unfortunately for me, my girlfriend (who stated that she was not hungry when I asked, at "last call") decided that she wanted to take a gigantic bite of my roll, so I only had a small taste of it. When the bill came, I was shocked at how reasonable it was! We were charged for the 3 rolls at menu price, and one eel hand roll-- no additional charge for all the extra goodies he stuck in there! Overall, it was a WONDERFUL experience, and I was extremely happy to have wondered in there. The next time my girlfriend and I are in the mood for sushi or Hibachi, we will most certainly return. Possibly even the next time we are craving Lemongrass, I will wait until 9:15 to head that way, and end up at Sakura! Don't change a thing!

One of my go-to places when I'm feeling down and know I'll get great service and delicious sushi. My husband and I frequent here a lot. The bartender, Darryl and head sushi chef (his name escapes me right now but he always smiles when he sees us!) knows us by face and gives great service with a smile. I like how they make the sushi rice in particular. It's the perfect way, at least to me. Our fav rolls are the Crispy Roll and Twilight Roll. The Baltimore Roll is awesome too. They use real blue crab meat for the roll. I thought, wow what a great way to bring a local crab fav to the sushi menu. Very inventive and original! Today, we decided to do sushi and hibachi and it was as good as ever. Bradford was our server and gave excellent service. He repeated our order to us and was always attentive to our drinks and needs. I want to get him again as our server. Alex was our hibachi chef and he was so cool. If you visit, ask for him. He can talk football too. :)

A great sushi bar I've never had to wait in line for. Sakura is nestled in a strip mall next to a Petsmart, Best Buy and Officemax. But don't let the neighbors deter you - the sushi is always right on. I especilaly liked the Twilight roll and Spicy tuna. Tall boy Sapporos sake the thirst very well. Quick and friendly service rounds out the experience. Teppan is available too but I haven't tried that yet.

Crispy Roll and Dang as your hibachi chef and you will have a great experience. There are lots of other rolls I like too, Anemone being 2nd only to the Crispy Roll. Really, ask for Dang. He is hilarious and puts on a great show. I'm not crazy about the bartender- he always seems to be there.

Service is efficient and the hibachi chefs are entertaining. The fried rice is tasty and the chefs always cook my order to my specifications. Not the fanciest restaurant but enjoyable none the less.

We used to go to this teppanyaki place in White Marsh that was very good. When I moved to Annapolis, we decided to look for a local place to satisfy our teppanyaki fix. This was the closest place. The food was pretty unremarkable if not outright bad. The steak was tough and bland. The fried rice was subpar at best. The shrimp was actually pretty good. If I ever have to go back there again, I will get straight shrimp instead of the steak and shrimp. The atmosphere was typical of a teppanyaki place. Our chef was pretty unremarkable. There was nothing about his performance that stood out -- good or bad. Overall, the best qualities are that it is close to my home and the shrimp was pretty good. That is good enough for two stars.

Not the best at all. It is extremely expensive for the quality of sushi you get. I do think it is good if you have kids and are there for the show. I was there for the sushi. Not fresh and the rice was beyond bad. The rice for sushi should be made with some pride and flavor. This was basic rice that was made by a newbe so to speak. I had a martini which was awsome. The bartender is great and personally I would go there just to drink. Yes he looks a little 'yikes' (perhaps mean would be a better word), but the man can make a good drink. And he is very polite once you befriend him. I am extremely hard to please when it comes to drinks. Over all I would go there for the show but not for sushi. If you have ever lived in Hawaii you will understand when I say it is simular to a place called Aloha Sushi. The exception being this place is far more expensive than Aloha Sushi. Do try the bar.

Sakura is a run of the mill Japanese teppanyaki-style restaurant. The very average kind that will make you feel like if you have been to one hibachi grill, you have been to them all. The highlights: you can expect to find the same standard menu options to chose from (chicken, steak, shrimp, and scallops alone or in every possible combination). But lucky for you, a list of these options will be delivered to your table in the form of a ridiculously sticky, badly torn and scotch-taped laminated menu in the shape of a Japanese fan. Only a little bit creepy and it just spoils the ambiance ever so slightly. Also feel free to get comfortable with the strangers that will be joining you at your table, particularly the awkward bachelorette party and the kid with the birthday. I also think our grill's chef guy was possibly suicidal and definitely in need of a new career. He looked pretty miserable dousing that tower of onion rings in oil and setting it to fire... and he could barely manage to forge a smile during his attempt at flinging little shrimp pieces into the air for the kiddies to catch in their mouths. The wine list was, well, brief. We picked a bottle of white that looked like it could have easily come from a gas station or convenience store. I somewhat regret that I did not order whatever sweet concoction comes served in that porcelain Buddha statue, with the brightly colored straw poking from a hole strategically placed in the center of its round tummy. I mean, you even get to take it home... though the family next to us forgot theirs. All this aside, it really was not all that bad. The food was decent and plentiful, and definitely reasonably priced compared to similar restaurants. The group setting hibachi grill with the knife-weilding performing chef concept is always tacky, but can be fun and downright delicious. Some places just do it much better than others. This isn't one of them, but its not the worst either.

I would seriously have to say this is one of my fav restaurants in Annapolis. The service is good and the food is divine...blows my mind....My hubby has Crohns Disease and we have to be really careful what he eats. So this is perfect. You see what they cook and the best bit is they cook it infront of you. I hope your experience is as good as ours. Oh and if it's someones birthday, tell the waiters and they will bring out a free slice of cheese cake with a candle on it and everyone sings happy birthday. Then you get your free polaroid snap shot to take home. It's kid friendy and the chef's have a great sence of humour. They do funny things whilst coking, like make a volcano out of onion rings or try and throw chicken in your mouth. Like merrill said it is a great place fr a first date. my fav dsh is the chicken/shrimp and fried rice..mmmmmmmmmmmm

My boyfriend and I went here last week and our experience left us with a "eh" feeling. Nothing spectacular, but nothing horrific either. We started with 2 miso soups, which we had to remind our waiter that we ordered. They were ok, but miso soup isn't anything spectacular either. Then we ordered 4 special rolls. We waited 40 minutes for them. No lie. Now if these were amazing sushi rolls we would have been perfectly fine with waiting, but they were just mediocre. And something that really bothered me was that they only came with 6 pieces rather than the traditional 8, but were fully priced. Lastly, I hate soy paper, YUCK, but unfortunately one of the rolls came with soy paper even though it didn't mention it anywhere on the menu. I wanted to send it back but was afraid it would take another 20 minutes to make. There are much better sushi places in Annapolis so we probably won't visit this restaurant for sushi again.
