Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
Greek Cuisine
Greek food is a fine melody of the finest pressed olive oil, fresh fermented bread, colorful vegetables, juicy meat, sea food all cooked in spices and fresh rosemary. The people from Greek were great scholars who aimed to excel in everything they do. The results are quite visible in their food as they are the inventors of olive oil which is beneficial to health. Greeks also made different type of wines from the best quality of grapes fermented in controlled environment.
Today, you can find hundreds of restaurants offering authentic Greek food or popularly termed as Mediterranean cuisine in New York city alone. People wait in line to taste the exotic Greek dishes like saganaki, taramasalata, souvlaki, loukoumades, spanakopita, moussaka, and many more. One thing which most people like about these authentic Greek dishes is abundant use of lemon juice, olive oil, fresh rosemary and sea salt. A smart mix of few ingredients can virtually take you on the pebble streets of beautiful city of Greece.
For those who don't have time to enjoy fine dining should try tasting the famous souvlaki with pita which is type of meat dish, also a trademark Greek fast food. For those who are vegetarian, or vegan can try different versions of Greek Salad. So, if you wish to enjoy a hearty yet healthy meal that tastes divine then try dining at the best Greek restaurant in your city. Greek cuisine not only tastes good but also help maintain your body in a natural way through healthy diet.

Came here with my dad a few weeks ago, his choice, and we did not leave disappointed. If you are looking for a sit down dinner, make reservations well in advance. We called the day before and there was nothing available before 9pm. We decided the night of to check it out anyway and were able to snag two stools at the bar, which was just as good for us. We shared the grilled calamari and are still talking about how good it was. Seriously, if you go just for drinks and appetizers, it is worth it. I had the sacchetti di pasta ai porcini for my entree, which essentially is pasta pouches stuffed with ricotta, gorgonzola and pears (to make it sound less eloquent) in a creamy porcini sauce topped with fresh herbs. So rich, creamy, fresh, and amazing. It's a fancy, pricey place, but the food is worthy.

Atmosphere was nice and relaxing, server nice but seemed to be the only one there and working, so waited a little while to order. Food was delicious and desserts were very good too. Think it's very nice and would enjoy coming back again.

Hsnds down, exceptional meal and service. I have been to Osteria before and was pleased but for some reason had not returned for several years. tonight was spectacular! Best meal in Annapolis (or elsewhere for that matter. swordfish, veal cheeks, seabass, ciopinno, were nothing short of spectacular. Apps were also superb. Service was exceptional. No complaints and no criticism whatsoever. Prices were steep but worth it. thank goodness for the half price wine which was unexpected. with tip and dessert came to around $300 but worth every penny. Will return when budget allows!

Went here for dinner last night. The restaurant was small inside but nice. The food was excellent however the waiter we had was terrible. He messed up our order every step of the way and I communicated some food allergies to him and he never informed me if the food I was eating had taken these into account. I ordered two dinner entrees and explained I wanted them together. Instead I received one entree and then had to wait about 20 minutes for the second entree and I never received the side of spinach I ordered. The waiter gave and charged us for wine we didn't order, did not give us the water we did order and at the end gave us a different table's bill. For such an expensive restaurant, I was surprised with all these mishaps. Nevertheless, I did enjoy all my food there although not sure I would return.

Great experience at the bar. Popped in to watch the Belmont Stakes, were pleasantly surprised by the superb and personable service by Lucius. Well stocked bar, great wait staff!

Went here with my wife for our ten-year wedding anniversary and got an amazing table and waiter. We were given stellar service, lots of freedom to be on our own, but enough attention so we didn't feel like we were being ignored. Food was great! The only issue we had was with our entrees coming out on time, but our waiter kept touching base with us and telling us they would be out shortly. It took longer than we expected or he expected so he paid for our desserts, sparkling water and coffees. Had and loved the lobster/scallop and the Branzino fish. We will be back for certain! Maybe next time we'll take friends...

I couldn't wait to get to my computer this morning to write this review. I've tasted a few items from this restaurant before but never in a dinner setting. Went here for a post-NYE date, and was not disappointed with one thing. From the friendly greeting of the hostess to the knowledge our server had of the menu. Everything was extraordinary. We ate on a Sunday night, so the place was pretty empty. We were sat right away at a table towards the back. Our server greeted us immediately and offered to take my coat. We had simple cocktails but the cocktail list was very interesting (I went for wine). They even had half off wine that night (if you purchased a bottle under $100). For a starter, we had the grilled calamari. This melted on your tongue like butter. Grilled and had so much flavor and not a bit chewy. I seriously could have had that as my dinner. I'm gluten free so it's so nice to see calamari that is not heavily battered! Speaking of my allergy, our server graciously checked at the beginning of the meal and let me know that the penne was corn based so I could order that if I was craving some pasta. I ordered the duck breast as my entrée and my man friend had the swordfish. Both were exceptional. The duck was cooked with a blueberry reduction which was to die for. His swordfish was beaten thin and wrapped in prosciutto. YUM. For dessert although we were so full, we had the dark chocolate mousse. Holy cow. I'm not a big dessert fan but I do love chocolate and this did not disappoint. Really, this meal is worth every single penny. Prices were higher than most places nearby but I think you're paying for what you get and this place was spot on with flavor, service and everything in between. LOVED it.

Excellent food and service. Ordered Chilean Sea bass, Salmone Al caperi, swordfish...scrumptious.

I was treated to a rehearsal dinner here the have a room downstairs that can accommodate 25 people. I have been living in Italy in 2 years and the food rates pretty good for me. The wild boar sauce is what it all about. The wine selection is also pretty good we had a Tuscan blend that was quite pleasant.
(4)Dan B.
Very nice restaurant but really nothing special Best dish was the sea bass (which is hard to mess up) Swordfish in Parmesan was OK Tuna appetizer and Caesar salad not memorable )too much dressing on salad, not tasty tuna dish) Wine was fine Our waiter was jittery and kinda nervous Not worth a return trip.
(3)Steve H.
Absolutely delicious. One of the few really good restaurants on Main Street in Annapolis. Seafood, steaks, pasta - it is all quality and cooked to perfection. One of my favorite dishes is the grilled calamari - the best I've ever had.
(5)Michael S.
(Transferring my reviews here, this is an OpenTable review from 06/18/2014) Outstanding! My wife and I went here for an early dinner to celebrate our anniversary. Everything was amazing, from the friendly, informative, and funny waiter Dimitri to the delicious entrees to the scrumptious desserts. We had the sea bass and ahi tuna entrees, the crème brûlée and cheesecake (extraordinary) desserts, and chose the Jermann pinot grigio 2011. We rank this among the top ten restaurants we have dined in.

Since this was a $$$, it probably wasn't the best choice for a work dinner on a budget, so I will admit to that. We had a fairly attentive server, but he seemed a little bit confused when I asked him about menu reccomendations--perhaps this is because there was a WHOLE extra menu of specials. I appreciate that, but when you're out of things or have changed them, updates should be made. Once I only ordered an appetizer as my main dish (budget, but I also wasn't that hungry) he seemed MUCH less interested in being attentive with the check, etc. I ordered the proscuitto and melon. He said I'd get a "half of a half" of melon, but the pieces were fairly tiny and cut off the rind (appreciated) but then left in a pile on the place? (not so much appreciated). I've honestly had better proscuitto from the grocery store deli. My coworker had a gnocci ragu dish that looked delicious (which he said it was), so maybe I just have food envy. Either way, I've had similar or better food at Italian places for MUCH less money. Perhaps this is a turn off for locals since the restraunt was not praticularly crowded.

You have to be crazy if you think this restaurant knows how to cook. I had the linguine with clams in white wine sauce and it was the worst white wine sauce pasta I've had. Actually It didn't even taste anything like it. It tasted only like butter and olive oil. Lots of it. Way too much butter to be healthy. This dish was something a seven year old girl would make trying to help mommy in the kitchen. And it was really really really salty too. But America will eat anything as long as it's salty and greasy. Annapolis is an easy place to make money selling food because of the tourists and that's why there is no sense of urgency or innovation or the want to make the best food you can in some restaurants around here.

We went to Osteria 177 several months ago but I wanted to get the review out anyway. I never really noticed this place on Main Street just north of the Chick-n-Ruth's deli and parking garage. It is very conveniently located because of the garage and side street. It is not a crowded part of Main street because it is on that corner. We went the Friday after Valentines so it was still fairly crowded. It was such a wonderful experience I remember everything about it. The seats are very comfortable and the service was what you would expect for the prices. The waiter was very professional and not rushed. We got a nice table in the front corner, but not all the way in the front, it was too cold there! I ordered the sea bass which was on special and it was amazing. The cosmopolitans were very good as well as the wine list. This is a classy place where you can wear a jacket if you want to, but it is Annapolis so I'm sure people come in with shorts on in the summer. They have a set menu on special occasions like Valentines Day (so I am told) to make things run more efficiently. We already have reservations for this Valentines Day so that should be enough of an endorsement from me.
(5)Glenn R.
Love This place. Great food and spectacular service. Dimitri is awesome and truly knows his wines.
(5)Tom G.
Excellent food and service! The only knock I would give them is that there is a "musty" smell that is present at times. Great real Italian food that is cooked just right!
(4)Elissa R.
This is about the best restaurant you can go to. My meal and salad was spectacular! I love it here!!!
(5)Ada R.
All of the staff was helpful and attentive! I'm so glad my mom enjoyed her meal (she is a picky eater), the food was fresh and delicious. I ordered a special and it truly was! It ready showed off the creativity of the restaurant, I'm sure this is a pasta dish I wouldn't be able to get anywhere else! Muy delicioso!

We had friends meet us for a holiday dinner in downtown Annapolis and chose Osteria 177 after walking by and seeing a packed dining room. We grabbed drinks at Red Red Wine, jumped on Open Table and made a reservation for 4 at Osteria. We shared the Beef Carpacio and Bresaola Trentina appetizers for the table - which were excellent. Main courses included surf and turf (shrimp), the Bronzino, a regular filet and the duck - Petto d'Anatra al Porto con Mirtilli. The duck was excellent. The filet surf and turf were ok. Our friend specifically asked if the chef could remove the shrimp tails but they were left on. The Bronzino - filleted table side - was just ok. Mild, flakey - but no zeal or taste. For $30 - I expected something more. For dessert we had the creme brûlée which was very good - but then waited another 15 minutes for a cheese plate for the table. The real issue at Osteria 177 was the service. Our waiter seemed to lose attention and instead focused on a "high priority" table across from us. It's a shame to have spent so much and walk away feeling like we just didn't get a level of service commensurate with the menu and pricing. There's lots of other restaurants to go to in Annapolis - we won't be back.

We had an absolutely fantastic dinner here last night - it was stellar in every way. Dmitri waited on us and he was superb. The food is incredible both in taste and presentation, and the wine was fabulous. Overall it was a lovely, memorable evening! I would highly recommend it.:)Fab!
(5)Lisa L.
We just had a fabulous dinner at this restaurant . The service was impeccable and the food delicious . The hostess even gave us her own parking pass as she couldn't find the guest parking passes for the parking garage - so above and beyond ! The only down side is that it's a bit breezy when they open the front door . My new favorite!
(5)Matti S.
Had a wonderful dinner here with a friend recently. Attentive, prompt service and delicious food in the perfect portion sizes! If you haven't been here yet, you are missing out!
(4)Sandra L.
Mediocre food, as soon as our meal was done we were asked to leave to free up our table for people waiting. No one was waiting and many open tables were available. Atrocious service, never again!
(1)Chrissy H.
The waiter and the food were fantastic. The manager however was not. He was awful. I will never eat here again because of him. I am sorry we came here. I recommend this place to everyone, but now I will not. I couldn't even finish my dinner because of him. Thanks for ruining our night "L." It's a shame because other Waiters who recognized us from previous visits were stopping by to say hello, but our night was ruined by This manager. We can't wait to visit again once L is no longer there. We loved our waiter and the food. The manager broke the law for service dogs and should receive education accordingly before he is sued. Please - there is no need for rude comments. We have been there many times before and have never had an issue. He assumed we were feeding the dog from the table and never even asked us. Totally rude. Upset our whole dinner by his comments. Update 9/13/2014. We did receive an apology, therefore we changed the review to 3 stars.

Osteria 177 is one of the fancier restaurants in the Annapolis downtown area. For the price it charges for the entrees, I expected the food to be good and I was not disappointed. I recommend ordering something from their specials menu, which is where we found the star of the night - Chilean Sea Bass. Food (4/5 stars) - Chilean Sea Bass: Moist, tender, and full of flavor - just how I like my sea bass. The chef did not skimp on the size of the sea bass either, which was a definite plus. - Roasted Duck Breast: Duck breast was cooked just right - skin was crispy while the meat was still tender. Green beans that came with the dish could have used some spices, as it was quite bland. The food was good, but there was nothing special about the menu. Just a typical fancy Italian restaurant. I didn't see anything Greek or Mediterranean on the menu, so I'm quite confused why that's written outside the restaurant. Service: (3/5 stars) - The service was just average. It took a while for the drinks we ordered to come out. I ordered a margarita-like cocktail that had a touch of jalapeno juice, but the drink turned out to be so spicy it burned my throat every time I took a sip. I asked the waiter to see if I could get it without the jalapeno juice, and he did not seem happy - just snatched up my drink and left. I expected better service than that from a "fancy" place like Osteria 177. Ambiance and Decor: (3/5 stars) Generic colors and furniture inside the restaurant that matches the overall feel of the restaurant.

Fantastic service. Chris was always there to help us with great decisions. Wine pairing entree suggestions were right on. Food was excellent. Pasta cooked perfectly. Can't wait until we are back in town!
(5)Jon A.
Great food and great service. The gnocchi and sacchetti were delicious. Dimitri was a great waiter.
(5)Larry H.
Osteria 177 is a little pricey for the Annapolis area, but when you experience the above and beyond menu selections and service, you won't be disappointed. To make your visit even more enjoyable, I'd suggest requesting a booth for a little more privacy and also request "Mauro Seghieri", the Manager as your server. He's as Italian as Italian gets, straight from Perugia Italy, very knowledgeable, and attentive. All the specialties you would expect from a traditional Italian restaurant are here, Cioppino, Osso Buco, and a variety of inventive pasta dishes. I've never had anything I didn't enjoy, but one of my favorites is the "Petto d'Anatra al Porto con Mirtilli", (Duck Breast with Fresh Blueberries in Port Wine Sauce). One of the little known secrets of Osteria 177 is that the chefs here will also create custom dishes for you with the ingredients of your choice if you call ahead. They used to have an excellent sweetbreads in a port wine & mushroom reduction sauce on their menu, which is absent now. But if that's what you want, call a few days ahead and they'll have it fresh and ready to prepare for your visit. Osteria 177 is definitely worth a visit for any special occasion you may want to celebrate when you're in or near the Annapolis area!

Went for lunch with a group of 4 people. Coincidentally we all ordered the exact same dishes. They had a lunch special for $15-was an amazing deal. Soup or salad and an entrée. All four of us had zucchini soup and salmon. Both dishes were extremely tasty. I would have given it 5 stars except for the following service issues; 3 of our 4 soups came and the 4th came about 2 minutes later which is a long time when 3 others are waiting for your to arrive. When the 3 soups did arrive, the food runner reached across the table (over the shoulder of one our guests) and served the soup. The same thing happened when the food runner came to pick up the soups, again, reached across someone shoulder to the other side of the table to pick up the bowl. Small service issues, but annoying nonetheless.
(4)Blanche N.
The red sauce for the veal parmesean dish was amazing. I got a shrimp scampi with jumbo shrimp; these shrimp reminded me of lobster for some reason. It is great for a special occasion date night. They use nice wine glasses.
(5)Beatrice T.
One of my all time favorite restaurants. Never ordered a dish I did not like. My friend and I would always order 2 orders of the grilled calamari, so we didn't have to share. Branzino and steaks are always good. The chef, Arturo, always treated us like family. He has even prepared special pasta dishes to suit our taste for the evening. I would eat here every day if I had the option to.
(5)Jackie P.
My husband and I went to osteria last night for his birthday dinner and LOVED it. Absolutely delicious! He got the veal and I got the pear, ricotta and Gorgonzola pasta and we shared the calamari for an appetizer and each had a glass of wine. Demetri was our server and he was excellent! Especially with his wine knowledge! Everything was very reasonably priced for how good everything was. Will definitely be back!
(5)Cory G.
Don't get me wrong the food was amazing. It was the service. The worst - especially at this price point. Our waiter seemed ok and then once he realized that only 2 of us were drinking he seemed to lose interest. My husband wanted 3 or 4 glasses of wine but only had the opportunity to get one as the service was horrendous. I was the DD and my husband actually drove home. What a bust! We were with another couple and having a blast talking - there were other open 4 tops and yet the hostess came up TWICE to ask us to leave. The first time she asked if we were leaving and we said no. The SECOND time she asked if she could get our coats. If you are going to charge that much - GET BETTER SERVICE. Get waiters who can offer more than 1 glass of wine. Get a Manager that knows how to ask us to move to the bar, etc. THEY WERE HORRIBLE. Not worth the food in my opinion, the price or the horrible customer service. And to confirm my suspicions my parents went a week after us and said it was also bad service. Spend your $$$ where you get great food and great service!
(2)Alex H.
This was my wife and my first time here. We had a date night and came on a whim (actually because of Yelp's rating). Ambiance: Nice and stylish with comfortable looking booths but the high back chairs were uncomfortable. They had good music. Royksopp at one time. Food: Tasty. Nothing too out of the ordinary but good. We had two appetizers: one vegetable terrine and one bresaola spinach salad. We split a wild boar lasagna. While it all tasted good, the portions were smaller than we were expecting. Service: The hostess was nice and peppy, I wish she had served us. Our server was, as another reviewer put it "pretentiously nice". I would say borderline smarmy. When they weren't dealing with us, they all hovered around the bar chatting with each other. Not very professional or appealing. The head waiter was demonstratively peeved with the runners because they were botching other people's orders when they came out. It made for an uncomfortable eating experience. Value: Here is where it all comes together. A small $25 piece of lasagna that tasted as good as my wifes...she could have made two 9x13 pans of lasagna for the same amount of money. I know that Annapolis is expensive but just go to Macaroni Grill and you probably won't be missing much.
(2)Rafael R.
Came for a business dinner and had a good time. Food wasn't excellent and wine (of my choice, a barbera) wasn't the right pick. I had the Chilean sea bass which was ok.
(3)Tony C.
Our meal was fabulous. Our service was perfect. Our waiter was knowledgeable. He gave insight into the food and drinks without pushing us to a decision. Low key pace to our meal. Great place for a special occasion.
(5)Wayne J.
Had a taste for Chicken Piccata and it was not on the menu, NO Problem, the chef whipped it up just for me and it was the best I've had ... wonderful food, service, and value. I will be back .... very very very good
(5)Shari A.
Once again, another great meal! Service on point. Worth every dollar. Lucien and Chris both make great drinks. Definitely should go when Lucien is bartending. So worth going if you are in the area!
(5)Duspin S.
Great service from Dimitri who is knowledgeable not only about the food but also the wine. I can't imagine someone not enjoying their meal to their heart's content. Just go and support this place because it is a gem. Look at my reviews. I can be fairly unforgiving and tough but that is not necessary here. Just order the grilled calamari on a bed of arugula and be done with it. Let go and let Dimitri.
(5)Annalena W.
We had a great meal. We started with beef carpaccio and it was delicious. We had a yummy bottle of Malbec with dinner. We enjoyed 3 half portions of the pasta so we can try more pasta. We loved the veal pasta the best. But the Gorgonzola gnocchi was great along with pear pasta. I wish we had room for dessert. I would come back here again if I was staying in Annapolis.
(4)Tatyana M.
First time here. Ambiance nice and cozy. Food: tuna appetizer and gnochi we liked, all the rest of the food was mediocre. Big disappointment were desserts. Service: pretentiously "nice" and VERY slow. Not professional at all. Value: Overpriced even with 1000 point from OT. Don't think it was worth a drive from Baltimore.
(3)William F.
My wife and I had a nice meal here on a Sunday evening. I had chicken, my wife had salmon. The food was good, but not fantastic, and it was slightly pricey. I also thought the place came across as a bit pretentious. Regrettably, our overall experience didn't match some of the positive reviews I had read before dining here.
(3)Delaney B.
Amazing restaurant with amazing service (Chris) !! Food was delicious and not to mention we got our bottle of wine half off because it was Sunday!!!! Definitely will be back really soon!
(5)Lauren A.
It's hard for me to take any restaurants on Main Street seriously as a high-end type, but this place pulls it off pretty well. We called ahead so as not to wait (it was a warm Saturday night), but even if we hadn't, it wasn't busy anyway. Inside there's alot of space, something I didn't expect considering it's on a strip. The interior is classy and dim, nice for a date. I got a glass of wine and a mussel dish. The food isn't cheap, but I enjoyed what I had. The wine was also on the procey side, and I didn't care for it much, but I'm no wine expert so take that with a grain of salt. I'd definitely recommend this place if you're downtown and feeling some good authentic Italian, but not if you were strapped for cash.
(4)Caitlyn M.
Wow, wow, wow. The food was absolutely delicious, and our server Dimitri was so knowledgeable and friendly, our whole experience at Osteria was perfection. We will definitely return!
(5)Rob B.
My second visit here. The first less successful, and hence the many year hiatus. Arugula salad was perfect, not big, strawberries a little on the scarce side, but perfectly dressed. My tortalachi with truffles and other mixed mushrooms was very nice. Service was excellent. Will give it another try soon.
(4)Tori F.
Osteria 177 was recommended to me by a friend and it definitely lived up to the hype. I went with three other friends and everyone absolutely loved their meal. We started off with the vegetable appetizer which was delicious. The salads were just as good. I especially recommend their tortelloni.
(5)Jason A.
I ordered the "Old Fashioned Old Fashioned", a superb rye cocktail with bitters, and sugar. My wife enjoyed her dirty vodka martini. We proceeded on to the prosciutto and melon as an appetizer, the saltiness of the prosciutto complemented the cantaloupe making for a satisfying dish. I had the veal chop, and while the sides were sparse, the chop was tender, with a well developed crust served with a mushroom Marsala sauce. I paired with a Chianti, and the earthiness of the mushrooms enhanced the flavor notes of my wine. My wife enjoyed the beef special served with a mushroom sherry sauce. She For desert I ordered a scotch and my wife the creme brule and brandy. All-in-all an excellent experience. The staff attended to us in a polite, professional manner. A great place for a special occasion.
(5)Ken D.
Osteria 177 was delicious. Great wine choices and I had a great time eating there with my mom and dad. Between the three of us, we are all picky and to have us all leaving happy is a rarity! Our waiter was fun and the whole staff had a great sense of humor and were extremely friendly...clearly happy to be there. The caprese salad was perfect and the fish and beef were perfectly done. I would absolutely make this a regular stop in Annapolis. Very thankful for the recommendation from the wine shop down the street. I would definitely rank this 5 stars, but you will not get out of here for less than $50 or more if you are ordering a drink. That being said, the dollar for dollar value is absolutely worth it in my opinion.
(5)Christopher S.
Maybe I keep ordering the wrong thing... I had a terrible Veal Tortellini Special which I tried to pawn off on friends in exchange for bites of their delicious Ribeyes. GF's Lobster Bisque (also a special) was amazing. My roasted Branzino, skillfully served tableside, was mushy and flat tasting. They have a Gluten-Free Gnocci in Gorgonzola sauce that is out of this world. Calamari, served grilled instead of fried, is a pleasent change from the usual Frito Misto. It is expensive, and with prices this high I would expect all of the food to be a consistent hit, but I keep coming away from this restaurant not completely satiated. The crowd is typical Annapolis, stuffy old money mixed in with wealthy, tacky tourists. You would think they would try to attract a younger crowd, but every time I go in they try to give me a terrible table right by the door, which I refuse, when their are booths available. With the exception of the hostess trying to give bad tables to people she thinks won't have large checks, the service is extremely good and attentive. Decor is Meh. Wine selection is above average, overpriced, and focused on Big Reds. Not much in the way of finding a nice wine to go with everyones meal.
(3)Pamela R.
Each time I go, I realize that I forgot how good it is. A day trip to Annapolis and this is the perfect non-traditional Annapolis lunch. I have been three times, but honestly each time I have ordered the same thing: a speck with artichoke and fontina cheese Panini on chabata bread. Small salad dressed with the oils from Seasons across the street (a must visit also) and roasted potatoes. Just the right amount for lunch. Service is a little slow, but worth the wait.
(4)Tim M.
Probably the best by far restaurant in downtown Annapolis today. An impeccable bar which serves some amazing classic cocktails like a true Side Car or Old Fashioned etc. You name it they will probably be able to whip it up. The food is also top notch quality, including house-made pastas. Service is 4 star worthy so far too. It's expensive - but for me the cost/value pair up well. Love this place!!!! The only downside my last visit is a family brought small children in there which this place is NOT friendly to. They apparently didn't care for the food considering all the crying and yelling they did... Not Osteria's fault - clearly that of some very obnoxious heedless parents...

I love this place!!! Constantly you will receive the best in food quality, service and creativity in an authentic way. The chef continues to deliver food that tantalizes your palate and at the same time has a menu that make menu decision time difficult. Service is potentially best in Annapolis with a truly professional staff who know their trade and presents the menu like each has ownership stake in the venue! They are attentive to your needs without being intrusive. Parking is convenient with street, garage as well as valet. Enjoy

We went to here because of a recommendation of one of the shop owners on Main St. By far one of the best dining experiences we have ever had. The service was excellent. I had the cioppino; delicious with the greatest assortment of fish and seafood that I have seen. If you are looking for a real dining experience in Annapolis, this is the spot!
(5)Bob P.
Everything about this place 5 star. Service was phenomenal. Sacchetti pasta was as good as previous reviews said. Pappardelle were al dente and Cinghiale sauce was damned good. My rabbit was great. The cheese plate was awesome. My beother's veal chop special was also great. Running out of good adjectives to describe it. Were Italian from San Francisco and we were worried about having Easter Sunday dinner at an Italian restaurant. Osteria 177 did not disappoint. We would even bring Nonna back here!! A presto!

Very good place. I had an onion soup completely different as any other I ever had. Original and good. Sword fish very good also. Good wines. I was surprise about such good quality. Good service. Dinner $$$$ (at least mine) Lunch specials for $$
(4)Wendy F.
My favorite place to eat in Annapolis. Outstanding food and service is top notch. Worth every penny. Nothing I have had has been less than awesome. Our server Dimitri did a fabulous job pairing my pasta with the perfect white wine.

Service was excellent and food was good. We had an unhurried lunch for three, booking the reservation online, and they honored our request for a window seat so we could watch the parade in Annapolis today. We had fresh mozzarella for an appetizer and it was tasty, as was the bread. I even liked the novel olive oil pourer with its counterweight, gravity opened valve. The attention the chef paid to preparation and plating, and the quality of the ingredients was apparent. The gnocchi was done nicely. The grilled salmon and capers went over very well - the fish was done exactly right. We also had a kind of stuffed ravioli like pasta that has a name that is eluding me but it was also good. The fresh basil and cilantro garnishing the dishes looked so good I just ate it up...sort of out of character for me but it was tasty. The service was attentive, friendly, and the tenor was always one of a genuine desire to serve and make the meal a pleasure. I tipped accordingly. We never had to wait for water, new silverware, etc. The tiramisu was very good, and nicely served in a steel martini glass. A few small areas where they can improve - the food came out warm, but not hot. Considering the light traffic at the time...perhaps 1/4 of the restaurant was full...I would have expected it to be hot. Not a huge flaw but they can improve here. Also, the creme brulee was ok but not spectacular - they might want to drop this and focus on their more competent offerings like the tiramisu. Also, 8.5 oz bottles of Coke at $2.50 each was a little high when peers usually offer refills at about this price. Overall a very nice experience and definitely high on my list of destinations for downtown Annapolis - they outshone Piccola Roma. We'll be back here; probably the highest class offering on Main Street.

Went here for a 33 year anniversary lunch. Lived for two years in Naples Italy and this is the best Italian meal we have had since our time in Italy in the early 1980's. Not crowded for lunch though Annapolis was booming. Cocktails well mixed, good wines and excellent appetizers, main courses and desserts. Best profiteroles since Italy. Everything made in house. Our waiter Rick was perfect. We will be back.
(5)Brad L.
If my review was just based on the dessert (Panna Cotta), I would have given this review 5+ stars. The Panna Cotta was amazing. The rest of the food was pretty good. For our entrees, we ordered Sea Bass (I believe) which was great, and some type of Lamb which was pretty chewy and I believe a little too salty - we debated sending it back but decided not to. The Tuna appetizer was pretty solid.

Very nice Italian restaurant along Main Street! I found this gem through OpenTable and was very pleased. My server was very warm and welcoming...made great recommendations as well. I enjoyed my bellini and the gnocchi...tasty!
(4)Crystal M.
Recently went to Osteria 177, made quick reservations on open table. Upon arrival, the sweet hostess was waiting for us with such a welcoming, positive spirit, we were instantly ready for a great dining experience. The server was eloquently knowledgable not only about the menu, but also about the details of each meal, where the items derived from including wine-food and ingredients to enhance the main portion of the meal. He truly enjoy our presence at his table. Highly recommend this restaurant.
(5)David M.
It's a very nice restaurant. The food was very good, the server left something to be desired. Overall good experience.

We went to Osteria 177 last night (We being me, my husband and my aunt) and it was a great choice! It's not a cheap place (entrees spanned from $16 to 50-ish for some veal thing, but the majority of the dishes are from $16-35) At first I was a little hesitant since the host gave me a look as though I was crazy to ask for such a big request as an available booth. No such luck, but a table did just fine -- side note, the chairs are waaaaaay more comfortable than they look! Our waiter was good, a little tough to understand but I was able to get the idea of what he was saying. We started with the soup of the day some sort of tomato soup with no cream or butter--DELICIOUS!! We also had the prosciutto and melon appetizer, also very good. For dinner my husband and I both had the swordfish pasta special and couldn't have been happier. My husband, who 9 times out of 10 describes his dinner as "fine" or "ok", actually declared it "pretty good"...i.e. he'd order it again and again! My aunt ordered the shrimp scampi off the menu and the shrimp were huge and delicious. All in all it was a really good experience and we hope to go back again for a special occasion.

Just ate at Osteria 177 again on Saturday night with family and friends to celebrate my birthday. We all split some salads to start and then all ordered a main dish. I had the osso bucco which was delicious. The shank was incredibly tender and the broth was tasty. It was mixed in with some polenta and spinach which was a nice compliment to the dish. All of our guests enjoyed their meals as well. My wife, mom, and friend all ordered a pasta dish that was listed as a special for the evening. My other buddy ordered a meat lasagna that he said was very good and my dad ordered a pasta bolognese. Everyone enjoyed the food, but I didn't remember this place being so pricey. It seemed like their menu prices are all over the map. You can find some entrees in the mid $25 range but most are between $37 to $55! I was amazed to read so many things on their lengthy specials menu that sounded great only to be disappointed by a $50 or $55 price tag. Pros: Have been here 4 times in the last 14 months and the food is always consistent and delicious. Cons: Menu is all over the place.... in cusine as well as price. Don't know how they warrant $55 for a dish that seems rather simple and inexpensive to make.
(4)John W.
Great food. Best branzino ever. Had reservation and table was ready when I arrived. Waiters were attentive and all worked. Wish I knew they had valet parking before I parked several blocks away.
(4)Vincent T.
Service was responsive and friendly....food was served promptly, hot, very tasty and in sufficient quantities,
(5)Kent K.
Excellent food and nice decor. I frequent this restaurant for business and weekend outings. The food is consistently very good or excellent. Only 3 stars because of an unexpected $5 surcharge for splitting an entree (which was $32 to begin with). At these prices, it seems like I was being nickel-and-dimed. I did not see it printed on the menu (although I did not thoroughly search for any disclosure) and the waiter failed to mention that I would be charged extra. In fact, I would say he suggested that we split it. I brought this oversight to the waiter's attention and he didn't offer any solution. It's a minor complaint I realize, but it soured the experience in an excellent restaurant where I have spent thousands of dollars over the years...
(3)Sarah C.
Went there for valentines day and had great service. He offered wine that would best match my entree, did great. I got a pasta dish with eggplant while my boyfriend ordered what the service said would be amazing, he didn't lie. Go with what they recommend, you won't regret it!
(5)Vegas V.
AMAZINGLY FABULOUS restaurant! Great service, wonderful food. Demetri (hope I spelled that correct) was a Russian doll! Couldn't have asked for a better place to eat during our first trip to Annapolis. Thank you Senator Astle for the wonderful seating arrangement ;D.
(5)Dirk J.
I have been to this restaurant twice and have not been disappointed either time. The calamari appetizer was excellent and not the usual breaded and fried calamari one normally sees in a restaurant, American or Italian (in the USA). The pasta has been very good and I haven't been able to tell if it was handmade or not, so whomever is doing the cooking knows his pasta. Spices have been measured and not over or under-done, and the flavors in each dish I've had have blended very well. All in all, 4-stars.
(4)Craig S.
Some of the finest Italian food I have ever eaten. I had the tuna special which was in a white cream sauce. I could eat that sauce on cereal it was that good. Our waiter, Dimitri was excellent. Some very unique seafood dishes that were lived by of of us. You must try this place out
(5)Nancy V.
This is one of my favorite Italian restaurants. I absolutely love linguine with clams and I get it every time a restaurant has it on their menu, so suffice it to say, I have very high standards. I love their linguine with clams in the white sauce, and I also highly recommend their caesar salad. I'm usually not big on anchovies, but the anchovies in their caesar offer a really nice touch. I also recommend their beef carpaccio and let's not forget about dessert... they have a nice selection to end your meal on a sweet note!

My husband and I live in Baltimore. We decided on Sunday to take a drive to Annapolis...walk through the historic district, take in the sites and enjoy the salty breeze. We decided to have lunch in town and came across Osteria 177 on Main St. AMAZING! The prosciutto and melone was very good...one change - I would add another slice or two of melon. The entree was PERFECTION. The Pollo Paillard was amazing...chicken breast pounded very thin, sauteed and topped with arugula, grape tomatoes and shaved parmigiano...and roasted potatoes. A little fresh squeezed lemon on top and you are in heaven! The bread was warm and tasty and the olive oil, some of the best I have had!! As a cocktail I enjoyed the Campari and soda...took me back to Italy. Attentive service, great bar...overall, a lovely experience!
(5)Seb G.
A real gem. Went for lunch. The grilled calamari was suburb, shrimp and clams with pasta - excellent. I recommend the salted caramel gelato to end the meal. The service made the recommendation a 5 star. They knew how to serve the meal, friendly and professional - rare these days. We will be back.
(5)John P.
Once again my wife and I had a fantastic dinning experience! My Rosemary Lamb chops were perfect and my wife's seafood dish was extraordinary. Arturo, you never have let us down. Keep up the good work. We will be back!
(5)Don M.
One of the best in Annapolis for sure. Although not cheap by any means the quality of the food and service is exceptional. Had one of the best pasta dishes ever in the tortorolli stuffed with veal in a brown butter & veal stock sauce. Fabulous. Need to support this one locals!
(5)Lewis C.
Best Italian food in the region. Service is great.
(5)Mary K.
This is an amazing place to eat. Our server Demitri was awesome. All his recommendations were great. Love the food, ambiance & all the people that work there. We'll be back there this Sunday, can't wait.
(5)N B.
Excellent food, and great service. Their swordfish was excellent as was the gnocchi. We enjoyed their wine list and thought that their prices were reasonable for the quality of the food. If you are looking for a nice place to eat on Main Street, you can't go wrong here.
(5)Kristin R.
I brought my grandparents here last Sunday. The food and service was excellent. All three of us were incredibly satisfied with our meals. They have a pretty good pre-set lunch menu that is very reasonably priced. I think it was a soup or salad, an entree, and a dessert for $15. Great for lunch or a nice date night.
(5)Drew M.
It has been several years between visits. The first time I went I did not enjoy the meal, perhaps it was my choice of the menu but in fairness everyone else really enjoyed what they had. Fast forward several years and we tried them again prompted by a Living Social Coupon. I'm so happy that I did because the meal was excellent and the service was top notch. Absolutely nothing to complain about. The menu had multiple items that all looked very good - it was tough to pick just one. They also have a nice bar tucked away in the back. We will be going back!
(4)Scott L.
Best Italian food in annapolis. Worth the money for special occasions . Service is unbeatable and friendly. The stuff veal chop is excellent.
(5)Ben H.
Absolutely incredible food. This place is worth every penny. Staff is very warm and helpful. They overlook no detail. Plus, I think it says something when Senators are spotted throughout and then Cal Ripken Jr. walks in...
(5)Joe T.
First of all, Dimitri was possibly the best waiter we have ever had. He was there when we needed him, and left us alone when we didn't. He offered us an off the menu mixed seafood grill that was out of this world. I had the fish filleted at table side, and he gave us a good show. It was also delicious, perfectly prepared. He also knows the wine list end-to-end, and recommended a wine we were not familiar with, but it totally enhanced our meal. Great atmoshere, good food and impeccable service. Highly recommended.
(5)Ginger R.
I have been here a couple times and been very impressed. The menu is full of delicious choices and we have always been pleased with the quality of the food. The Sacchetti di Pasta al Porcini (pear and ricotta ravioli type dish) is to die for. My husband had a whole sea bass filleted at the table which he loved. The service is impeccable. We will definitely be back!
(4)Christine C.
Not sure what happened to Drew but man we had a wonderful experience! The food, the service, the ambiance etc was wonderful. The place was pricey but well worth the service and devotion that goes into everything right down to the presentations and cutlery. I had Rock fish that was baked in a paper thingy with veggies a scallop and a shrimp. For 30$ the portion was huge. It was worthy and tasty. The Pinot Grigio that I had with it was perfect. We also had dessert, and I went for the panna cotta with fruit, and just done perfectly. In few places do go ahead and have a port with our dessert but this place was well worth it. Our waiter could not have done a better job either. Thanks! Oh and I love the pillows in the booth seating. Just a very nice homey comfy touch.
(5)Melissa B.
It's been 5 years since we dined at Osteria 177. It's a solid restaurant. The food was good and the service was great. The lights were REALLY bright though. We felt as though we were on display under spotlights.
(3)Kim P.
Osteria 177 is an excellent restaurant. I have been there a number of times and it always delivers. The waitstaff is professional and helpful. I went there with a group for dinner a couple of nights ago and always it was delicious. Members of our party had the grilled sea bass and veal saltimbucca (both of which they raved about). i had a special pasta dish. i can't remember what it was called but it was like large tortellinis in a sage butter sauce. it was amazing. we all started off our dinners with the house salad which was fresh and delicious. i would highly recommend Osteria 177 particularly for a special occassion in Annapolis.

As my memories of my days splurging on food I couldn't really afford in Annapolis start to fade, I decided I have to churn out reviews for all of the major restaurants on Main / West Street while I can still do so well. During my 4 years, Osteria was our occasional special date night restaurant. It occupies a location formerly home to a Chinese restaurant, from which it also inherited the goofy chandelier hanging in the middle of the room that clashes with the industrial pipes / fans and throws off the modernist decor (I do like the settings, though). The restaurant can't decide whether it wants to be hip and modern, cater to the rich boaters, or those who've shown up in the area for business meetings (?) To put it bluntly, Osteria is inarguably one of the better places for food in the downtown area, but it suffers from quite a number of serious flaws. Most of the meals we've ordered there, especially the more Italian-oriented ones in their "Coastal Mediterranean" selection, and the steak / poultry menu options (pasta dishes - the gnocci especially comes to mind, bean soups etc., as well as a duck dish on the standard menu, unless its changed since our days) have been consistently excellent. Not every meal we've had there has merited the considerable price tag, however (especially the fish dishes - a salmon and a sea bass special come to mind, a swordfish entree was a little better); at prices like these, stick to terra over mare (which is somewhat surprising considering this is Annapolis, but this is just how things are). My service at Osteria has ranged from polite / acceptable (the Russian guy) to flirtatious to very pretentious to coldly snarky. I've seen the waiters order around the Latino busers as though they were sub-humans. Not one of their strong points. Osteria maintains its 4th star, however, entirely by virtue of its full and lovely bar, however. They have an extensive wine list, and I've had some wonderful cocktails there -- a Pear martini concoction comes to mind especially. Oh, and 80s dance party music selection for weekend lunches!
(4)David S.
Fantastic food, service, and decor. Italian food made by real Italians is extremely rare these days. It's just a bit on the expensive side, not to say its not worth it but it still stings a bit. Valet parking is a nice feature.
(4)Victoria S.
Meh! Average experience here. The service was rushed. It wasn't even busy but she acted like she was in the weeds. She wasn't very friendly or engaging. We ordered the Vegetable Tarrine and they split it for us in the kitchen and it was OK but a bit greasy. I ordered the Gnocchi and it was fresh and they melted in my mouth. But the portions were modest and I had to eat more bread because I wasn't completely full. The bill was reasonable but I felt that I didn't get my money's worth in the end.
(3)Rick H.
Weird Chairs, decent service, great food. The bread they give you at the beginning makes it all worth it.
(4)Jim E.
Excellent. Visited after the boat show as a walk-in, and they had a table by the window. All 4 of us enjoyed our visit very much. Excellent service and thoughtfully prepared meals. Two of us had the seafood stew (not the menu's name) and we both enjoyed it a lot. We will definitely return.
(5)Nathaniel H.
We ate at the restaurant on a Tuesday evening around 8:00pm. There were two other tables filled when we entered and we were the last guests. We asked about the available beers and the server took our drink orders for them, only to return to inform us that one of the beers was NOT available and that there was an additional beer that he had not mentioned. Our server then took our order without writing anything down, as would be acceptable in such an establishment. Unfortunately his memory wasn't as good as he would have liked us to think and one of the three appetizers we ordered was incorrect. The clams/mussels as well as the tuna were good. The calamari was WAY over-peppered. Out entree orders were correct and generally the impression was that the food was good. Two of the dishes, however, were over-peppered ... one extremely so. I wasn't TOO disappointed but I surely won't be dining here again.

Let's just say, I am now not surprised that this place was almost empty at 8:30 p.m. on a Saturday night. There was a 30 minute wait at Joss, so my mom and I decided to try something different - big mistake. Everything was fine at first. My mom ordered a Ketel One Cosmopolitan and I ordered a glass of Pinot Noir. The Cosmo was superb and the wine was very nice. We ordered the vegetable terrine as an appetizer - it could have used a little more seasoning, but still good. I orderer the Veal Saltimbocca which was FANTASTIC. The veal was perfectly tender and delicious! I don't know what they put in their mashed potatoes, but they were creamy and heavenly! Even the sauteed green beans would have warranted a 5 star rating . . . If it hadn't been for the incredibly rude treatment my mother received. My mom never sends back food. Never. But when her salmon came out it was totally dry. Being supposedly known for their fish, you would think that wouldn't happen. So my mom sent it back. A different waiter brought the fish back (all cut up to the point it looked like cat food) and told her that she was wrong, that the chef cooked it perfectly and threw it back down in front of her. Our waiter then came out and offered to bring her a new one, but at that point we had both lost our appetites. Our waiter then took her plate away and said that he would take it off the bill. There is absolutely no excuse to treat a customer the way my mom was treated. It completely ruined our dining experience. You could not pay me to go back to this restaurant.
(1)Alexa T.
It wasn't horrible--but when a restaurant that specializes in fish cooks the crap out of my Sea Bass to the point of making it almost inedible--it doesn't put me in the most forgiving mood. It didn't help that I was looking to have a vegetarian meal and there was not even one veggie option. One of our fellow diners commented that the duck breast was over cooked (as my dish was as well). The one dish they executed very well was the ribeye--which strikes me as odd, since they should be able to rock out their fish dishes. The fancy martinis are very good--but priced double what they would be elsewhere. It also took me asking twice for our waiter to bring my martini. The fans in the open ceiling were super aggressive, this in combination with the super-duper air conditioning had me freezing the entire dinner. Dinner here was disappointing to say the least.
(2)Mark W.
GREAT Italian food, great ambiance and polite staff. I've taken my family here several time over the past year and it is always a wonderful experience.

So we stopped in on a Monday night. So I dont expect nop notch food on a monday, as that is nomally the chefs day off. Specials sheet said the same entrees that were already on the menu, but for $2 more. When we asked the waiter he said "we are aware of the indiscression". And when asked what the risotto of the day was... "We do not have risotto tonight".. {freeze frame as I scan the empty dining room}. $32 dollars for the duck, I asked what the chefs choice of potato and veg would be.."I dont want to tell you because the chef changes it up and it might be different from what I say. I never know what the chef will put out". Well It just so happens I dont gamble on my dinner. That being said the bussers were quite pleasant and I said gracias more than thank you to our waiter.. Peach Bellini ( I was in the mood for bubble, dont ask)- "oh were out of the nectar".. Then take it off the cocktails list. Dont offer it if you dont carry it. The Food (Since thats what most care for) Beef Carpaccio was tasty, as was the prociutto/melon (Creative, I know), and the grilled tomato soup. But we decided to split a veal pasta... half moon, so Im guessing it was titled angelotti. With a veal just butter sage sauce. Awesome. Thats what got them the middle of road review. Panna Cotta was a good consistency although the zaboyonne was soured. Will go back, but not rushing to return.
(3)Alli Z.
My bf and I have just returned home from a most delicious dinner at Osteria. This restaurant is absolutely the most authentic and tasty-wonderful-melt in your mouth Italian restaurant in Annapolis. They have an extensive wine selection and also great prosecco! You MUST order the pasta with boar meat red sauce.....decadent yummmmm. Always a great food and a great experience, especially when Demetri is serving you!
(5)Jon M.
In reading other reviews, it sounds like Osteria suffers from occasional bouts of bad service, inventory mis-management, and other issues. After dining there for the first time, I'll conclude that I can see how this might be possible but still had a great meal. Dined on a Saturday night, there were only 3 other tables seated and by the end we were the last patrons left. However, even on a light night, they were still out of 2 or 3 dishes which our server (Dimitri) punctually informed us of after we were seated. Outside of that issue, we had awesome service and the food was delicious. The price is pretty high, so again I can understand why some people may have had bad experiences...when you pay this much for a meal you expect everything to go smoothly. I'd come back, but only for special occasions.
(4)Jeffrey K.
This is a terribly overrated restaurant. I can't understand how it got a zagat 24. We ate there on a Wednesday night and it was empty. My pasta was ok, my wife's fettechine dish was bland and my cousin's mahi-mahi with escarole was so heavy salted that it was inedible. We sent that back for a re-do. Lastly we pretty sure they gave us regular coffee instead of decade. The service was ok. We're not trusting zagat any longer.
(1)Greg P.
This is the only authentic Italian restaurant in town. The food actually resembles Italy, unlike Carpaccios, Brio etc which are to be fair Americanized garbage. The owner is Italian, not Italian-American, the food is fresh, and its definitley one of the best place to eat in Annapolis in terms of food alone. I lived in Italy for years, and this is actually authentic, fresh, and made by chefs, not Central American migrants. For lunch, it is remarkably affordable for the high level of quality. My only complaint is that its a dim-lit restaurant., which is unpleasant and not too inviting, and very possibly the reason it doesnt have more traffic. But food and service are top, real, fresh Italian food is not that easy to come by. If only it had a better atmosphere and dining room, I could see that place being Annapolis' most popular place, , because trying the food there its very hard to understand why its not always full. I recommend it especially for lunch, where I spent 35$ for 2 people, I was shocked when i looked at the bill excpecting it to be way higher....fresh pasta, scallops, bread great service. Absolutely the best value for money on an annapolis lunch.

Pretty good food, though overpriced (the drinks and the desserts are *way* overpriced). Its dishes pale in comparison to La Piccola Roma across the street (too bad Piccola Roma just recently closed). Osteria 177 does boast a tasteful contemporary setting -- the chair is more comfortable than it looks.
(3)J A.
After walking by this restaurant for years, my boyfriend and I decided to celebrate our most recent anniversary at Osteria 177. We were not impressed. While the food was very good, the prices were outrageous for what we got. The service was just okay and there were not many dessert options. We got calamari and not much was given to us - definitely not worth what we paid for it. I would not recommend this place.
(2)C. J.
Great pre fixe lunch deal and the bison ragout was delicious. Only negative comment: I found a beetle in my salad, but they handled the situation professionally and apologized -- which is more than I can say for other restaurant experiences I've had.
(3)Stan A.
Met some boating friends from VA here for dinner. Chose this restaurant based on yelp reviews and there was no disappointment. Great explanation of dishes, great wine recommendation, great presentation, great service, and great taste. We'll be back without hesitation.
(4)Jonathan G.
After reading some of the reviews we still decided to give it a go, hoping we would hit them on a good day. Indeed we did. Our meals were very good although portions were probably a tad on the small size for the price point. But even with that said, we didn't leave hungry! We both ordered pasta dishes and the pasta was a perfect al dente. Service was fine albeit for the fact that we ordered sparkling water and every tableboy that came by tried refilling our glasses with regular. Also, I did read a prior review about how cold they keep it in the restaurant. We visited in the midst of a severe heat wave and it was on the verge of being uncomfortable in the restaurant. I'm not sure if they toned down the air conditioning use based on complaints or if the system couldn't keep up with mother nature.
(4)Jim E.
Our visit began on a funny note. We didn't have anything planned, so we decided to give Osteria 177 a try if they had seats available. Luckily, right as we showed up one couple decided to leave after sitting down, leaving the table for us. Turns out the couple were not a fan of the prices there, which I can understand as it is moderately expensive. They then tried to seat us at the table and I asked them to change the silverware, which had clearly been touched. Sorry for being anal, but just because I wash my hands regularly does not mean everyone does. After that was settled, the waiter arrived and the first words out of his mouth were, "What do you want?" At that point I was ready to give this place a 1-star review and call it a night. However, I stuck it out and actually had a very pleasant time. I'm not sure what was exactly happening right before the waiter came to our table, but the rest of the night he was very pleasant and courteous. He knew a lot about wine, which was good. Speaking of wine: although much of it is expensive there, it is because they serve expensive wine. Just a heads up; it is all reasonably priced. The food was delicious, and the table-side preparation and presentation of the fish was quite awesome. The fish itself was not great, but good enough to merit a 4-star review. The meat dish was spectacular, though. I could definitely eat more of it. Aside from the rocky beginning and the "good enough" fish, the only real disappointment was the desserts. They were tasty, but I am definitely noticing a theme among Annapolis restaurants. Either no one cares about desserts, or there is a shortage of pastry chefs. Seriously, people, get on the ball here. Overall it is very worthy of 4 stars and I recommend it if you can afford 40 dollars a person + wine.
(4)Justin A.
Excellent food. Great service. Pleasant atmosphere. Went here for lunch - great $15 lunch specials. Highly recommended.
(5)Kristina M.
Wonderful!!! Highly recommend this restaurant. Plan on spending a fortune but well worth the cost. Yum. Great wine list, great mixed drinks, great food. Plus, our waitress was phenomenal. I can't say enough about this place. Go!!! Yum.
(5)Heather C.
I ate here a year ago, in all fairness, so I'm going on memory. Selected because it was a birthday dinner, we wanted to go upscale a bit in price and atmosphere. And the icing on the cake was that restaurant.com had a great coupon deal to boot. So we got to sample more apps and enjoy a salad course. Sure, the bar drinks were overpriced but the atmosphere was really cool and that's not cheap so I could live with that. What i'll never forget is the curtness shown by the server. Such attitude on him. Was a bit difficult at the end regarding use of our coupon, he had to rering the bill and acted like it was a huge ordeal. But he was shown the coupon up front. They were out of Dover Sole so I selected the Sea Bass which was nicely done (seems like a rare thing given the other Yelpers' comments on it). Can't recall what my companions ordered. For the price and attitude, I'll go elsewhere for the next special occaision.

Osteria was quite a disappointment in the most important department. The food was poor to mediocre. I had high hopes because I had heard from a friend (ex-friend now ; ) it was good, saw a couple good reviews blah blah blah. I ordered a fillet w/ Porcini mushrooms. The dish was served with this thick congealed gravy and overcooked mushrooms blanketing the plate. My diner food was served lukewarm. The cracker-barrellesque gravy was separating while cooling the way that grease does -- niiice. My date ordered Dove Sole, expertly filleted at the table. The fish was overcooked and lukewarm. Veggies poorly prepared. This $48 entree would have been worth it only if they served it on a bed of two twenties and a five. The reason they got two stars -- Friendly service and very good wine.

I met a friend for lunch at Osteria; it was the first time dining there for both of us. We both chose from the $15 prix fixe menu, which is a great value. (We were not there to "cheap out" however, and our bar tab well exceeded our food tab.) We had beers to start while browsing the menu and trying to decide what to order. Our waiter's recommendations on beer and entrees were excellent. We switched to a Chianti with our entrees, which paired nicely. I had the Chicken Parmesan, which I was worried was sort of pedestrian to order. It was the best I've had. It was a hearty portion, and both the sauce and the breading on the chicken were very fresh. Our waiter, Dimitri, was helpful, gracious, and never pushy. One of the best meals I've had in Annapolis and an all-around winner on food, atmosphere, and service. (Oh, and a sign it is truly fine-dining--no salt and pepper shakers on the tables. The uncluttered look and ample table space was refreshing.) Good food and service do not come inexpensively, but both are worth the price at Osteria.

I was shocked! I initially thought of the past few restaurants that were at this location and assumed that this endeavor was going to be of the same caliber- I WAS WRONG. This place is awesome! I went with a few friends and I cannot really say the place is cozy, and for downtown Annapolis this place is a bit on the trendy side. But the food was phenomenal. A lot of emphasis is on seafood, which is excellent. Some of the fish is prepared whole and cleaned at the table, it is that sort of stuff that makes dining at Osteria 177 a little unique. I've spoken to other people and besides one person who had bad service, nobody has had any complaints and the quality of food seems to be very consistent. If you normally like downtown restaurants, or something that is more on the modern side, this place is certainly worth a try- while there keep and eye out for me because I'm definitely going back.

This place is pretty good but pales in comparison to Domenica's, it has pricey apps & desserts. Very artsy-modern atmosphere like Zolas is good to go to on special occasions but, nothing to wow you. Their gnocchi casarecci soup is delish. Expect to spend between $19-$45 for an entree alone and make reservations. I cannot decide whether I really like this place enough to go back... Domenicas has spoiled me.

Wonderful food. Ask for recommendations if you're unsure what you'd like - they always recommend the best. Lunch is usually slow so it is quieter. My mother ordered the linguine with red clam sauce which was delicious. She's raving about it. I ordered the vesuviano panini - shrimp in a fresh tomato basil sauce with freshly made mozzarella... soooooo good.. My only complaint... my side salad was salty, yes salty.

VERY high quality food. Italian menu that often has truly special specials. Often, they have a "cream" soup that is made with pureed beans- a surprisingly tasting and rewarding option. The pasta is well made and prepared, with fresh accompanying foods. Bread is good, and they have a very nice wine menu. I personally think the only shortcoming is the decor/lack of ambiance, but much of what is there structurally was there before the place was Osteria 177, so I do not hold it against them. The owners are most often on premises, and very accessible. Not inexpensive, but well worth the price.

Best Italian in Annapolis by far. Great ambience. Plenty pricey, especially the drinks, so if you're on a budget, go over the bridge to Dick's Boatyard Grill or Davis' Pub. Best entree: the sacchetti--pear-filled pasta with gorgonzola, ricotta and a porcini cream sauce. Ribeye a nice close second...skip lunch and go for both!

I've been in Annapolis for three months and this is by far the best place I've been. I recommend lunch, as it has a three course pairing for $15 or so. I enjoyed a reasonably priced, beautiful Sangiovese wine while there that was quite impressed with. If you're in downtown Annapolis, this is what I recommend trying. Not much else stand out. Not for people with kids.

Osteria 177 ownership needs to put in a ceiling! The neo-industrial interior of this otherwise fine restaurant detracts dramatically from the quality of the overall experience. Our table enjoyed a variety of dishes, from appetizer and pasta samplers to fish, pasta in a wild boar ragu, and shrimp in a cherry tomato and white wine sauce, all prepared well and served hot. My halibut, shrimp and scallops wrapped in parchment paper was very good. They were out of the wine we wanted, the Arneis Roero Cascina Chicco 04. Fortunately, our waiter, Mauro, provided us with a bottle from off the wine list that was SUPERB! Unfortunately I forgot to write down the name (maybe because we had two bottles with dinner!). Maoro, bu the way, used to be the head waiter at my favorite Italian restaurant, Trattoria Alberto in Glen Burnie. We struck up a friendship there, and I was overjoyed to find him at Osteria. He had reportedly returned to Italy when he left Alberto's, but that's a whole other story... Anyway, I gave Osteria 177 three stars strictly because of the ambiance. The noisy industrial atmosphere really turned me off. I would recommend Osteria to anyone who enjoys good Italian-Mediterranean cuisine, and be sure to ask to be seated in Mauro's section. He is a delight!

The most decadent, delicious and drunken dinner I've had with my man in all my time haunting Naptown. The dark and sexy decor feels like it should be the setting for a reckless seduction, far from straight-laced Annapolis. We started by the bar for some cocktails: nothing garish or juvenile, just fresh ingredients to enliven grown-up classics. The cocktails went down very easy, as did the excellent selection of wines. The service was outstanding, tell the waiter what you're craving (at that point, I was so lit I might have asked for autumn sunsets), and s/he'll bring you something delightful and satisfying. Every course was so rich and sensual and surprisingly inventive that we actually ate all of what they brought us. That never happens because we usually feel some sense of diminishing pleasure or at least, perhaps, restraint. That's probably the way to sum up this restaurant: unrestrained, pleasurable, lascivious, even. It's worth five stars as an aphrodisiac.

My wife and I had dinner at Osteria 177 on a busy Saturday night. Made reservations days before using Open Table, but the restaurant had no record of it. I've had this problem once before with Open Table. Fortunately, there was one table open (coincidence?) and they seated us right away. The 3 hostesses were courteous and friendly. We split prosciutto and melon for an appetizer. Delicious and generous with the prosciutto slices. My house salad was fresh with tasty right amount of dressing. Caesar salad was delicious, too. I ordered pan seared swordfish crusted with parmesan and romano, served on sautéed red peppers and grape tomatoes, with green beans and mashed potatoes. Served piping hot and really good. My wife had linguine topped with shrimp, scallops, and crab meat. She loved it. Dessert was simple: fresh berries with vanilla gelato. Good coffee, too. Service was efficient, friendly, but a bit rushed because every table was full. Wine bottles range from 35 bucks to the stratosphere.

Kelley C's Mom, went back with her Dad last night and it was still delicious! We started with 2 appetizers; beef carpaccio and melon with prosciutto and both were very good, a little more melon to prosciutto would have been nice, but the meats were both thinly sliced and perfect. Dad had the linguine vongole and it was as good as the lunch version i had a week earlier, spicy but not too much, just right for me. I had the chilean sea bass and it was perfect. Our waitress was friendly and her service along with all her helpers was just the way you want it to be, there when needed!

Osteria 177 is a rarity in the crowd of Irish pubs and early-American-style restaurants that line the cobblestone streets of downtown Annapolis. No, no crab cake sandwiches here... instead Osteria is a contemporary Italian-Mediterranean delight with a stylish interior, attentive waiters, excellent food and an awesome wine list. Treat yourself the next time you are in Annapolis and check this place out. Its perfect for having dinner with friends or a romantic dinner with someone special. Its right up Main Street from the waterfront about two blocks on the left. Parking is found on the street and a nearby parking garage. Reservations on the weekends are recommended as it does get crowded, especially during the Summer. Dinner for two is about $125.00, or $160.00 with a good bottle of wine. Visit their website for pictures, menus and wine lists.
