This is the best Chinese restaurant in Annapolis! I can always count on Court of Shanghai for a good meal. The staff is very friendly and you never have to wait long for your food. This place also delivers which is a nice bonus.

The menu options, food, service, and atmosphere here are typical of a family-owned American Chinese restaurant; it's not gourmet, but perfectly good. Entrees are in the $11-$13 range or more for something fancier like Peking Duck. I brought my family of 5 here last night. We like Yama Sushi (Japanese) and Lemongrass Too (Thai), but were still looking for a good Chinese place in Annapolis. We had a variety of dishes and everyone was satisfied. The flaming appetizer platter (Shanghai Tray it was called) was fun, and I particularly liked the Pork with Cabbage, which was advertised as spicy. It wasn't nearly what you would call "Thai hot" but it was spicy enough to be enjoyable for most people. I'm sure they would kick it up if you asked. The Moo Goo Gai Pan was bland and starchy, but isn't it always? I could go on, but why bother. If you're looking for decent Chinese food, here it is.

After eating at all the Chinese resturants in the Annapolis area, each on multiple times, I now only order my chinese food from Court of Shanghai. The reasons are multi-fold; the food is very good and my favorites are exceptionally good, Court of Shaghai has a nice resturant that is centrally located as well take-out and fast home deliver, . The owners and staff are very courteous and ensure you are pleased with their food and/or dining experience. Thank you Court of Shanghai for several years of great food and service.

I've been coming here since 1997. This is my goto for Chinese food in Annapolis. Amazing customer service. They will even customize your order and the food is always on point. Downside is they are closed on Sunday's.

Food is just ok , fried rice is so salty you feel like you are eating nothing but soy sauce and don't like that you are made to order more then 10.00 to use your credit card

Coming from San Diego, CA and missing my parent's cooking, we went to the first "Chinese" eatery we could find in Annapolis. The restaurant is small and quaint. You eat with forks... And if you prefer chopsticks, you can ask for them. The half and half (half tea, half lemonade or Arnold Palmer) was delicious. As for the food, the food was decent. Americanized Chinese food with basic sauces as the base like soy sauce, oyster sauce, etc. The crab rangoons were pretty tasty. I had the honey sesame chicken. It was bland but I guess it's comparable to what you would get at Pick Up Stix. The seafood delight was flavorful and reminded me of the topping on fried egg noodles at places back in San Diego. They probably have a similar dish here if I were to ask. The service was quick since it was only us and another table. The server was courteous and polite. She informed me that the restaurant is family owned by her uncle and they have been in Annapolis for over 20 years. Overall, I would eat here again. I asked for a take out menu. They also deliver.

Ok Chinese food. Affordable dinner special with soup, egg roll and large entree with rice. Soups were underwhelming. Egg rolls were large and typical tasting (good, filled with cabbage). Entrees were full size meat and veggie options (plenty for 2 people). Moo goo gai pan chicken is a white sauce with lots of fresh veggies and chicken. Mild flavor. Garlic chicken (brown sauce with sugar) was very tasty, but not as spicy as I hoped. Family run with great service. Full bar too.

Maybe the high rating here is a reflection of the sheer dearth of Chinese food (or Chinese people, in general) in Annapolis. I came here yesterday with a group of colleagues for lunch to observe start of the lunar new year. I drive past the place twice a day on my way to and from work, so I was happy to finally actually try it out. We ordered family style for a group of nine. The lunch dishes for $6.5 were of course great, but the food in general was the unspeakable stereotypical Americanized Chinese food. Now I understand this may just be what people around here are fine with, but I think I'll pass next time. The waitstaff is friendly, and the place has an interesting decor (makes one wonder what the house used to be), but really, it makes me glad I can at least get some decent Chinese food in DC at places like Sichuan Pavilion. Diversify up your resident base, Annapolis!

My husband and I visited Court of Shanghai tonight on a friend's recommendation, and thought it was great! We loved the teriyaki beef appetizer, as well as a plate of crab rangoon (super tasty!). I had the Sezchuan chicken dinner, and my husband had the General Tzo's chicken. The General Tzo's sauce was delicious! We mostly loved the friendly and attentive staff who made our night out special. We'll be back!

My husband and I got delivery from this place and it was awful. He got the pan fried noodles which were inedible. They were hard and stale. We thru them away. I got the lamb and onions which tasted ok but was super greasy. We both feel sick after eating it. The wonton and hot and sour soup weren't very good. The egg rolls were really good but that was it. This was very disappointing. We normally go to house of Hunan and after this experience will stick with what we know. Just terrible.

Not many yelpers reviewing this place, but I saw plenty of write-ups on other sites and I couldn't believe this restaurant was getting such high accolades. I knew it existed as I passed this funky, chalet looking place often on West Street and it never occurred to me to try it. I so so miss good Asian and have never found anything in Annapolis that I could proclaim "good" particularly in the Americanized Chinese establishments. So my craving and curiosity led me to the court today, and I decided to get lunch portions to take home. I really liked that they had combos for standard dishes like Sweet & Sour, Szechuan, Hunan, etc. I went with the Kung Pao version with chicken, shrimp and beef. Broccoli and beef was the second choice. It was off hours, so the place was dead. The staff was pleasant and the nice lady even asked me how I like my Kung Pao and I said SPICY! Anyway, the food came out in a flash, and I had to drive home with all the aromas wafting throughout the car. Upon my arrival, I opened the first container. My heart sank. NO, NO, NO. You don't put vegetables in a Kung Pao dish - especially something so tasteless as celery. And no I didn't want an added crunch factor, that is what the peanuts are for. I could have done without the carrots as well. Sadly, when I scooped up this impostor and took a bite, it was bland. No kick, no big flavors, no spice. The broccoli and beef looked nice and their appeared to be ample "shavings" of meat but for the $6.95 price tag, I think it should have had more. The brown sauce tasted like the Kung Pao sauce. No richness, no depth of flavor. Just a realization that sadly, I did not have a new place to get my Chinese food fix.

Okay... Not the best food ever but pretty good especially for Annapolis. The service is pleasant and the atmosphere is cool. It seems that this place used to be an iHop and was converted to a Chinese palace...quirky and fun. They have a full bar and their Mai Thais, which aren't authentic, are delicious and strong...great fun with friends and family.

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
