Great service and awesome food. I like the fact that you can dress your own falafel any way you like. I even received a brief turtoral from the employees on how to do it.

I've already reviewed the Amsterdam Falafelshop in DC, so I'll just add this: don't worry, hungry tourists of Annapolis, you'll figure out how to navigate the falafel line eventually, and maybe one day you'll even know what baba ganoush is. anyway, this place is delicious and costs as much as Subway, so you should eat these bomb-ass sandwiches instead.

Delicious and fresh! Very nice selection of toppings and sauces for your falafel sandwich or salad bowl. The only downside is their setup. You pay at the front of the line and then you have to turn around and go the opposite direction to get your toppings. A lot of the customers, including myself, were confused over which way to go or what to do. I hope they open up a location near Baltimore. I'd definitely go!

So happy we went into the marketplace & found this place! It was a very pleasant surprise--totally vegan friendly, healthy, & absolutely delicious. It was so good that hubby couldn't resist & bought another falafel pita. It was extremely flavorful & they had an array of toppings to choose from to please any palate. So glad we stumbled upon this place! Our 6 year old loved it too & he's pretty hard to please. This will be our go-to eatery whenever we're in town.

I didn't expect to like this place as much as I did. Got the large falafel sandwich and hit the topping bar. The baba ghanoush was great! Went a little light on the toppings adding only baba ghanoush, coleslaw and the Turkish salad but it was perfect for my taste. Give this spot a try

Very quick and convenient. The falafel was very flavorful and plentiful for a great lunch price. The topper for this shop were the toppings. So many toppings to choose from, and you build your own falafel. The best location in Annapolis in the market hall at the end of ego alley. Overall a delight.

Been to the location in Annapolis and in Adams Morgan. Great place if you need to eat a fast lunch or dinner. I usually get the smaller falafel and just pile on the toppings. The toppings are all free so load up! Plentiful selection of toppings - lots of pickled items as well as dips. Fries are crispy and well salted.

  • Kaylee H.

This place was awesome, and the toppings are amazing. I asked for a large falafel wrap with a tray, and loaded up on toppings to eat the falafels with. It doesn't look like a full meal, but the toppings easily make up more than half the bulk of the meal. The toppings are amazing. Have I mentioned how awesome the toppings are????

Best falafel ever. Nice and crunchy balls. Fresh pita and a terrific variety of add-ins. So much variety that eating the sandwich can become a bit messy. But - grab a handful of napkins and all will be well. The roasted eggplant and garlicky parsley topping are my personal faves. Enjoy!

Falafel is amazing. This place is amazing! I love the topping bar and the jalapeno dip is to die for! The falafel is divine! I have had HORRIFIC falafel at Mezzeh in the mall (avoid!) But the falafel at Amsterdam is a 10!

I love this place. It was good in DC and just as good in Annapolis. So many toppings!! I wish someone who actually knew what they were doing would make one of these for me or at least put out some kind of recommendation. Don't let me decide! I clearly cannot be responsible to top my own food... no really, I can't. I've put some pretty nasty combos on top of my falafel. I mean, I still eat it but I know someone can do better. Beets, tzatziki, hummus, some unknown sauce and pickles....yeah, I suck at this.

I live quite close to the original, one and only Amsterdam Falafel, and I am no fan of knock-offs of anything. But this is the real deal, the falafel tastes right, the toppings are all there, the fries are as fried as ever. Am I bad if I think the fries are the best part of my meal? Not that the topping bar isn't fun. It wasn't exactly jammed on a weekday night, and I was given the choice of leaving quickly with whatever languid fries were lying around or having some freshly made. I wasn't in a hurry and I appreciated the choice. Star for service. It's also a nice thing to have it in downtown Annapolis, close to the state capitol (No seriously, Annapolis is the capital of Maryland! It's not Baltimore! Even I forget sometimes). This is not exactly a vegetarian haven, but I finished my small sandwich and small fries and was no longer even interested in the appealing-looking gelato nearby. Now there's an argument for vegan eating: come to Amsterdam and you won't even want ice cream anymore when you're done...

  • Olakunle O.

We stopped by for lunch during an outing in Annapolis and was impressed. The falafel portions in the regular pita seem generous. I could barely fit the sandwich in one hand! There are numerous toppings which all appear to be freshly made and enhance the flavor of the perfectly prepared falafel. Service was fast and friendly and I appreciated the variety of drinks offered. The one con is the pricing. My sandwich was nearly $7 which, despite the numerous toppings, I find to be a high price point for this sort of fare. This was especially annoying since I was hungry less than an hour later and had to grab something more substantial. Nevertheless, I recommend this restaurant without reservation...unless something dubious appears on my credit card statement as other reviewers have noticed.

Great falafels and stuffing choices. The toppings are delicious and you can keep coming back for more, for free.

Don't expect world class service. But the falafel was actually really really good. The service was only ok because the single employee was simply over worked. But she pulled it off!

  • Jason D.

Great tasting falafel and a large assortment of toppings and sauces. I love the hot and spicy jalapeño cilantro sauce! This place is perfect for a quick, filling bite to eat, especially if you are vegan or vegetarian.

  • Christine A.

Yes, I was one of those drunken fools stumbling downtown...I just so happened to stumble upon something delicious! But why did you deduct 2 stars, you ask? Because our credit card info got stolen - TWICE!! To remedy that issue, we only go there when we have cash. I suggest you do the same. Despite the credit card shenanigans, the food is excellent. I mean, who doesn't like the fat, crispy, deep fried, fiber-filled goodness of a well-made falafel sandwich? You can even get it w/o the pita if you feel like munching on a bowlful of these goodies w/o the distraction of carbs. Oh, and feel free to top it off with at least 2 dozen varieties of sauces, chutneys, and fresh veggie medleys. I must warn you though...it takes about two days for that garlic breath to wear off!!

I hate falafel. So why am I giving the falafelshop 5 stars? Because this one little eatery completely changed my perspective. Service is fast! This little place is inside like a food market thing of sorts, so it's shaped more like a counter. You order how much falafel you want to eat, they give it to you in pita or I think you can get it alone, and then you just top it as high as you want as you go down the self service topping bar. And boy is there variety! I cannot name all the things I put on my falafel, but I can tell you it was all delicious, flavorful, spiced. I thought the two falafel balls in a pita was really not gonna fill me up, but I was stuffed at the end (the toppings probably help haha). If you want more toppings, you are encouraged to get more (you just have to get it in a little cuppy instead of putting it on your falafel directly). We sat outside eating our falafel (gets messy!) and the sun was out and I could not have had a better lunch.

  • Kevin M.

Spicy ketchup! The falafel is very reasonably priced and they have a bar of ingredients to add. Your plate ends up looking like you ran through a Middle Eastern food court (if such a magical place exists) while scantily clad people of the gender you prefer rained deliciously sliced vegetables (and other toppings!) upon you and you emerged on the other side smiling and then you ate the falafel and said to yourself I should eat more falafel because of the things that just happened because that was crazy. After thinking said thought, you would stroll around and wonder how you even got to this Middle Eastern country without a passport.

YES! Open late. Awesome falafel, fries and dipping sauces. You add your Oren toppings from a fixins bar. Deliciousness

A Must-Have.... My wife and I love this spot.. Its great food and fun to dress up your falafel your way... Great selections of toppings and sauce.. The creamy garlic sauce is our favorite. Then walk it off as you scroll through the harbor. Delicious...

Its very good place to eat falafel, actually i love to eat it with salad and sauce, it's remind me about this days in Egypt before 3 years ago with ma family. Ithe place is great for me and my family and there sandwich is too much big.

This is my new favorite place for Falafel! And I'm not easy to please when it comes to this stuff. This spot is cheap, quick, and most importantly: absolutely delicious! Having spent a lot of time in Europe, I suppose I'd become accustomed to a certain standard and taste of falafel that I'd struggled to find here. In fact, I've never been able to find it here until I discovered this gem! All too often, I find falafels I've had in the states to bit a bit on the bland or dry side, and lacking with sauce options. This place cooks it perfectly, so that it's slightly crispy on the outside and just the right moist texture on the inside. Seasoned to die for and the sauces are phenomenal. I recommend the regular size order with Red Hot Sauce, Tahini, Tzatziki, and the Garlic Cream Sauce. It's heaven in a pita!

  • Juliet A.

I love falafel, and I love the concept of Amsterdam Falafelshop. It is cheap, tasty, and fast. This location in downtown Anapolis is great, too - a really nice alternative to the nice sit-down seafood joints if you are just looking for a little snack on the cheap. The falafel is great and the servings are generous (and if you aren't familiar with the concept, you get to heap on as many toppings as you like/as fit into your pita) but this just isn't a 4 or 5 star place. Complaints: -I know that the Market Space is in the middle of a big renovation and AC is not really available at the moment, but that is all the more reason to protect the food. The door was open to let in fresh air (understandably), but in addition to fresh air coming in, so did flies. All of the toppings are uncovered, and I saw more than a couple of flies buzzing around the trays of baba ganoush and tahini and salata. Oy. Put a cover on those trays, people! -Staff. Ok, I get it, teenagers need jobs too. The young man taking orders (and ostensibly doing all the work) was great, but there were two other gals working there who didn't seem to be doing much of anything except chewing gum, hugging on their friends who came in to visit, and chowing down on fries behind the counter. Even if you don't have the most exciting job in the world, it doesn't hurt to put a smile on your face and act interested in your work.

  • Rob B.

Yes it is awesome, I do hope the market house and Amsterdam are a success. The falafel is perfect, the fixin bar is amazing, I just couldn't get enough in my pita. I suggest removing the falafel and tucking it back on top of your vege. The fries are a good, not great Dutch recreations. The frit sauces are perhaps the weakest link. They do have Dutch mayo and curry ketchup but my favorites like Andalous and warm curry are still back in the Netherlands and Belgium. This place goes all night but arrive 10 minutes past 6, drop two bits in the market side 30 minute meter and you own the space for the night! It might be backwards but you can chase your falafel with a night of beer drinking at any or all of the harbor side pubs!

Such a yummy situation to be had here! I love the toppings -- especially the eggplant and the pickles. Really nice to have a tasty meat-free option for lunch or dinner. I have been many many times and it is always consistently good. I can also recommend the catering option. Cheapest and tastiest thing you can get for a crowd.

    (5)
  • Jenny S.

I asked Amsterdam Falafel to cater an event at my school, and it was brilliant! They waited until 10 minutes before we needed to pick up the food to start frying the balls so that they would be fresh, and gave us everything we needed, like serving spoons, cutlery, napkins, etc. They also gave us complementary sauces and pickles that we didn't ask for. Really good service. The owner was really friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious. Everyone was satisfied and said that we made an excellent choice. This place is great just for going out, but the catering experience was fantastic as well.

I cannot believe this place is so underrated. Make your own falafel sandwich?! How can they have NOT recieved more review on Yelp? I loved every minute of it. A bit pricey, but if you LOOOVE falafels (as I do), then you will not be disappointed.

  • Devashis R.

What a delicious place and a wonderful idea. Order your falafel (I think a small is sufficient since you'll be adding more to it) and visit the "salad" bar to load your falafel wrap with as much as can fit (in one trip). Pretty much all the sauces and toppings were delicious. They even have small condiment cups you can use for the sauces you may want to add more of when you're halfway done with your sandwich. The only reason I am docking one star was because though our falafel was tasty (and probably relatively fresh), it wasn't made to order as they suggest on their website. Perhaps they had some extra from the lunch rush they were trying to get rid of, but falafel really needs to be fresh to be properly enjoyed (in my opinion). That being said, I had enough food (I ordered a large) that I took some home, and it reheated quite nicely in the toaster oven.

Fresh, not greasy, moist falafel. Topping bar is incredible and the cost made me take my rating from a 4 to a 5. My dining companion said it reminded him of eating on the side streets of Cairo. Delicious.

  • Kristen D.

The falafel was crispy, but not moist on the inside as others stated. When I bit into the falafel it crumbled, but the flavoring was tasty. The toppings were the best part. The order of fries were very disappointing as we got maybe 4 fries that were longer than 2 inches... It seems like we got the last bit of fries in the batch. The taste of the fries were nothing special. They were translucent because there was so much grease. None of the sauces for the fries wowed me. If you are ever in NYC looking for good fries with excellent dipping sauces go to Pommes Frites.

  • Amalee K.

This place was amazing be sure to ask them to smash it for you so you can stuff more in your falafel but be careful with the red pepper stuff it's burning hot and I covered my falafel in it the first time ... But you can get as much tahini sauce hummus fried eggplant as you can fit in the falafel it's amazing and you get way more than any other place I've ever been

  • Lady L.

Really delicious falafel for really great price. Lots of veggie toppings, and amazing babaganoush. A small falafel sandwich for less than $6 is a pretty sufficient amount of food!

    (5)
  • Lauren F.

Some of the best falafal I've ever had with an excellent variety of toppings. You're free to add whatever toppings you want- The naked salad, chickpea salad, baba ghanoush, and eggplant are my go-to choices. I wish Amsterdam Falafelshop would open up locations in New Jersey!!! Will definitely be back next time I'm in Annapolis.

  • Emily H.

Great value, great food, and fresh ingredients! My only complaint is that I couldn't fit more of the amazing toppings in my falafel pita.

    (5)
  • Ed W.

Gotta love this place. The price is right, the ingredients are top notch, and the choices are abundant! Atmosphere is great too down by city dock. Only reason for no 5 stars is that it's a little hard to eat as a sandwich. A fork is a must!

  • Catherine M.

Ehhh, I've had better falafel. Maoz blows this place out of the water. I had really high hopes for this place because (a) I love falafel, and (b) I love self-serve toppings bars; but I'm struggling to find anything positive about this place other than the self-serve toppings. To start off, the falafel was grainy, dry, and completely lacking in flavor. Nothing from the toppings bar really blew my mind aside from the imported pickles. If you don't want your falafel in a pita, be prepared for a hefty price that goes along with the salad bowl. It's priced by weight, and mine ended up being $14 (yikes!). The sauces were totally bland and flavorless. Not an outright terrible place, but I don't think I will be back. I'm hoping we get a little falafel competition in Annapolis and another place opens up soon.

    (2)
  • Jennic M.

Very good! I love falafel and this place compares to some of the best I've had. The falafel sandwiches are large with a variety of toppings. It's a great place to stop by for lunch or when out and about downtown.

Great great falafel! Super friendly staff and cheap. A great addition to City Dock. Beware the cilantro jalapeño sauce.

  • Martyr X.

Got a falafel salad bowl, which is priced by weight, and was full of pickled vegetables, babaganoush, tahini, and other Mediterranean and middle eastern goodies. Everything was tasty, but the falafel wasn't made hot and fresh for my order, I saw them just get it out of a bowl of others that were already ready. The Falafel was still pretty good despite the fact that it was luke warm.

I have eaten here three times in the last four days, and I am wondering when I can go back. Is that review enough for you? Small menu, but it is all that you need. I first ordered the felafel sandwich, but despite "smashing my balls" it was too small for all of the (self serve) toppings that I wanted. I recommend ordering the salad bowl (with three or four balls) and then you can load the bowl with yummy toppings. You can also buy a pita to go on the side for $1.00 more. The pita is served fresh and hot and the felafel are also freshly made. I have not ordered the fries or a dessert option. My only suggestion for improvement is that there are not any fresh toppings i.e. lettuce, fresh tomatoes, radishes, etc. and I'd love to be able to add fresh veggies. See you there!

These are, hands down, the best falafels I've ever eaten! Go get them now because Annapolis Market House has a long history of failing to stay open. A great place to bring the kids and enjoy an affordable, quality meal in downtown Annapolis.

We were there around 12:30-1:00 pm on a Saturday, while there was a boat show going on across the street. The whole market was pretty crowded and busy. One of the friends I was with had been to the other Amsterdam Falafelshop in DC and loved it, so we decided to try this one out. Super disorganized. You place your orders over at the far right, but there was no signage to say so, and just a big jumble of people standing across the whole storefront. Nobody seemed to know what was going on, ordering wise, and people were waiting in line for the cashier when they hadn't ordered yet. We did eventually manage to place our orders, and the guy who took them was friendly and funny. Both of our falafels came out pretty quickly, and her fries came out after a short delay, but my fries never showed up until I finally asked about them after I saw someone who'd ordered after me receive hers. When I asked, it turned out there were no fries in progress for me after all, so the order taking guy started a fresh batch (I don't know what the falafel and fry making guy was doing and why he couldn't do it) and upgraded me to a regular instead of a small. But I didn't want more fries (I wouldn't have been able to finish even the small, I barely ate half the regular) I wanted to go eat my food with my friends. They were finishing as I was finally getting started. The falafel was good, all the toppings looked very fresh and the ones I got were very tasty, and the fries were pretty average, although very hot and fresh. It was a bit awkward trying to carry a falafel with a bunch of toppings in a pita in a piece of paper, a paper cone of fries, and the tray with my napkins and drink on it through the crowds and out the door to where there were seats. The falafel and fries both needed to be held to keep them from dumping out, and judging by the sticky gunk on the bottom of the tray, they were not cleaned between uses and I wouldn't have wanted to eat anything that touched the tray surface. I spilled a trail of fries out of the overstuffed cone trying to maneuver through the line and out the door. There are too many other good eateries in the area to go back here, but I'll probably go try the DC one sometime. If I *was* for some reason going to go back here, I'd line my tray with napkins before ordering so I could at least lay the fries down.

WOW!!!! This is just as good and maybe better than the DC shop. Great Fresh Food, Vegan and Vegetarian, Incredible location in Market House with shaded park and tables right outside the door. The Staff is friendly and very up on the ingredients and how to serve the food to make your visit the best. Keep up the great vibe guys.

Delicious fare and reasonably priced. The toppings bar had great options, the falafel were fresh and tasty, and vibe is energetic. Definitely get fries, and try the incredible curry ketchup.

I have never had a falafel before last night and wow have I been missing out! The crunchy outside and the soft flavorful inside of the falafel was amazing! The staff was very friendly and you can immediately tell they love working at Amsterdam Falafelshop! The restaurant is very clean and organized (the topping buffet line was immaculate) with this awesome fun atmosphere, a perfect combination! When I got my pita with the two large falafels at the bottom I asked one of the guys working what I should put on it, there are so many delicious looking toppings to choose from! He told me his favorite topping that I immediately loaded my pita with and when I took my first bite it was exploding with delicious fresh flavors! The staff surely knows what they are talking about! The decor is so perfect for the concept and I enjoyed looking around at all the paintings, and savoring my first falafel! I can tell that this will be my new favorite lunch, dinner and late night snacking spot.

This actually is one of the best places that I have eaten falafels. It's in the downtown Annapolis area with an amazing view and the BEST Falafels you have ever had! All the topping were fresh, the area was clean and service was great. The next best thing are the fried french fries... so crunchy and crispy, served in a paper cone. I HIGHLY recommend checking it out. You will not be disappoined with the Amsterdam Falafel Shop in Annapolis!! Delicious, Reasonably Priced and Fast!

  • Wesley J.

Both the falafels and the crew at Amsterdam Falafelshop were amazing. The crew walked us through the lineup of toppings and suggested some great pairings--for example, try the garlic sauce and red chilis! The falafels and fries, or fritas I as I think they were called, were out of this world, and the portions, generous Our kids asked for seconds! We'll be back next time were in Annapolis!
