The short bartender with the beard is terrible. Never seen such unsatisfactory serving. I would ask for his name but I think he already knows I'm writing this. It's a disgrace and I work in a restaurant. I've never wrote one bad thing about someone but this is pathetic. Foods good drinks are good but this guy is terrible. Makes me sad that people like this work in the industry.

This place lives up to the hype. I actually came here for a baby shower and didn't even look at the reviews until after. It was one of the best Mexican meals I have ever had. Their chicken special is one of the most special chicken dishes I have ever had. Full of perfectly cooked chicken, veggies, and a to die for creamy sauce. Their sangria and margaritas are great too. I 100% will be back if I'm in the area!!!!

Always good whenever my boyfriend and I go here. We usually get take out and get a beef chimichanga and a side of beans and rice. We find the chimichanga big enough to get one and just split it. Sometimes I can't even eat the half, so personally, I think you get a good amount of food. The atmosphere is pleasant on the inside and the staff is always friendly. The La Siesta platter is also very good. I love cheese and love the fact the smother the nachos in cheese. This is one of the few places in Winthrop that you can go to that has a bar. A few of my friends and I go here to drink once in awhile. The prices are not bad and neither are the drinks. Not too strong or not too weak. The bar area has definitely improved since they expanded it. There is definitely a lot more space than before. The only reason why I rate this 4 stars is because one time we ordered nachos and our total was just under $10, it was like $9.60 something or what not. The hostess told me that there is a $10 minimum and that I would have to pay using cash, which I rarely have on me. And I'm not gonna buy a drink or an extra when I don't need or want it. She did eventually allow me to charge my card. I'm not sure if they put up a sign since then, but I think it's kinda silly. They get good business. And even some of the smallest convenience stores have only a $5 minimum or none at all while your fast food places don't really care.

Not a bad Mexican joint, but the impressive ratings for this place are likely inflated by the location in a small town. Got the tres tacos and found that the meat in all three was over cooked. Flavor was pretty bland for the tacos, but the refried beans were pretty good. Service was excellent and very attentive. Give it a shot if you're in the area and craving Mexican, but don't expect 4.5 star food.
Three words: Thursday chicken special. You absolutely need to get it. And you can request it any day. You will not be disappointed!

This was a gloriously authentic departure from the bland corporate food of our Boston vacation this far. The chile relleno was absolutely incredible. Though they have many fancy and delightful sounding margarita options, I had the standard on-the-rocks and it was delicious and strong.

Authentic Mexican at its finest. Great atmosphere too. This restaurant deserves five stars without hesitation. From the moment you walk on you realize the place is the real deal. The smells from the kitchen, the friendly service, and quality decor makes you realize you're in a premiere establishment. Once you sit their homemade salsa and tortilla chips only reinforces this thought. Go here and spend your money. You will not regret it. On a personal note...I love their rice. Awesomeness
Was there again last night!! Had the fish fajitas! this place is so great and they never disappoint. Their red sangria is so yummy.

Pretty darn good Mexican! The owners are very nice and kind. We have been here probably 15 times with active young children and never experienced anything that made us feel unwelcome. The fresh homemade chips and salsa are amazing. The daily specials are always fantastic. The house margarita is the best thing on the bar menu! The owner is from Mexico and tells you proudly that he is cooking recipes that have been in his family for generations. One tip about parking. There is limited parking on the street, but if you go past the restaurant, take a right, and then another right, there is a big public lot behind the building.

Went there 4 nights ago and cannot wait to go back. The place is a little hole in the wall restaurant. It's well decorated and the bar area looked nice as well. We started off with two margaritas which were wonderful tasting and strong. Our waiter was very nice and attentive. We got guacamole as an appetizers which was just ok it didn't have allot of flavor. I ordered the chicken poblano for dinner and I'll tell you 4 days after I'm craving it again. The sauce was so tasty and the chicken was cooked to perfection. My friend got the steak fajitas which were great as well. Great service, good drinks, good food I'll be back.

My favorite restaurant in Winthrop! I moved to Boston from SoCal and feared that I wouldn't find decent Mexican food in New England, but La Siesta was a life saver. Authentic recipes, fresh ingredients (the scallops are off the chart amazing), great staff, fun atmosphere. After dozens of visits I have legitimately tried everything off the menu, and although I have my favorites: the scallop appetizer, Chicken Special (I don't know it's real name but that's how you order it), Fish Tacos, Chile Relleno & Ground Beef Enchilada... I have never had a bad meal. Love, love, love this place and can't wait to go again, and again, and again!

This place was wonderful. My party of two was told that there would be a 20 minute wait which was understandable as it was a Friday night and we just wandered in. The owner came out after 10 minutes, said that we had already waited too long and ushered us into a table as quickly as possible. Talk about service! The food was delicious. The complimentary salsa was the best I've had in a very long time. I had the enchiladas which were nicely portioned. My friend had nachos which were quite good although she thought my enchiladas were much better. I would come again definitely if I was in the area. The customer service from the owner and servers was top notch.

I eat here often. I eat here so often the waiter knows my order. That is the number one thing I like about this place - the staff. Amazingly friendly and accommodating especially to people like me with food allergies. Prices are fair and portions are huge. Food is fresh and made to order. They also have great specials and a pretty large menu to choose from. Saturday nights they have two guitar players strumming around while you eat - Oscar and Caesar - who are also amazingly friendly as well. This is a nice little hidden gem in Winthrop center - I highly recommend!

Rude owners and waiter, I or my family and friends that accompanied us here the last time we visited will never come back here again! The owner and a waiter made us feel very uncomfortable when they told me no to let my child spill his apple juice just like the last time we were there!! I was so uncomfortable after the owner made this comment I did not know what to say... some time later the waiter came back with the same comment.... during our meal we didn't want to ask for more napkins since we felt very uncomfortable.... as we were leaving after I put my child down from his high chair he ran around the table and got on a chair and started to scream. I walked over to where he was and I notice the owner (wife was approaching) I continued to put my son on the floor and telling him that we were at a restaurant that we did not scream in restaurants. As I turned around the owner (wife) was standing one foot away from me and she proceeded to tell me that I needed to keep my child quiet...my response to her was that what she needed to do was to not tell me how to take are of my son...she continued with her rudeness making comments which I am sure every one in the restaurant heard...this was a very embarrassing situation and very uncomfortable for all of us and many people that were dinning on that day...I will never come back here .... I am in the restaurant hospitality industry where adults spill drinks, kids get loud and we would never, specially the owners would never talk or treat guest in the way we were treated ...

Best local Mexican I have had, way better than border cafe and fat cactus. Their margaritas are strong and delicious, food tastes fresh. I highly recommend their chicken special but you honestly cannot go wrong with anything on their menu. Newly expanded bar and live mariachi band on weekends!

Love this place! The food is delicious, authentic, and fresh. Everytime I've been, it's been super crowded... but that's what happens when there's a great restaurant in a tiny town. I would definitely recommend the flautas and the guava margarita.
My first "taste" of La Siesta was hearing a performer playing his guitar and singing haunting Mexican songs at the Back Bay T station. I asked him where else he performed, and he told me in heavily accented English that he played Mariachi music at La Siesta in Winthrop. Gracias a Dios that we were drawn to this hidden gem in the Suffolk County backwater. Do yourself a favor; set your GPS, make the short, winding drive through East Boston to Winthrop Center, and revel in in the authentic Southwestness of this hidden treasure. The margaritas are strong enough to bend re-bar, and the chips 'n' salsa are homemade. That's the best cultural exchange program anyone could ever hope for from Baja Estados Unidos.

Yet again, Groupon has uncovered a surprising gem in the form of La Siesta. Venturing to Winthrop under threat of impending storm, we made our way to Winthrop Center and were momentarily met with great disappointment. From the outside, it didn't look like the restaurant was open. We approached the front door with apprehension, as the posted hours did not include lunch, but were quickly greeted by two friendly staff members. The second staffer, who turned out to be our waitress, seated us in an almost-deserted dining room with all of the attendant Mexican styling, including abundant applications of brightly-colored tile. After delivering chips and salsa, the waitress departed to provide us time to review the modest, though not overwhelming, menu. In the intervening moments, Jeremy K and I both selected the same entree, Enchiladas Mole Poblano, and opted for the guacamole-dip appetizer as well. We eagerly set into the chips and salsa as well, both noting the later's superb flavor. The guacamole dip, which arrived just as we finished the complementary starter, was served in an iceberg-lettuce-lined tortilla bowl surrounded by the precise number of tortilla chips needed to finish the dip. The dip was extremely satisfying, the onion, tomato, and cilantro blending well with the avocado. In mere minutes, we devoured all of the dip and chips, leaving behind the tortilla bowl in hope of saving some room for the enchiladas. Following a brief interlude that allowed for a bit of digestion, our generously-sized enchilada entrees arrived. Served with sides of rice and refried beans, the pair of enchiladas were drenched in an excellent mole sauce and a touch of melted cheese. The flavors comprising this dish melded perfectly and made for an extremely satisfying meal, one that I devoured with the same excitement I'd attacked the guacamole dip with. Throughout the first visit, our waitress returned with appropriate frequency, never intruding but providing the reassuring sense that service is a high priority at La Siesta. We easily redeemed our Groupon and were on our way, the staff's genuine gratefulness for our visit following us out the door. Just over a week later, we returned to redeem a second Groupon. We were greeted by the same friendly staff, the consistency a positive sign. We opted for the queso fundido appetizer this time, and while tasty and satisfying, I preferred the guacamole dip; perhaps it was the heaviness of this dish that made it an inappropriate midday snack. That said, the queso fundido is excellent in its own right. For my main course, I selected the Chicken Poblano, which featured grilled chicken, mushrooms, onions, and tomatoes in a poblano cream sauce. Again, the flavors were excellent, the poblanos providing an appropriate amount of heat for this dish. The rich cream sauce was superbly flavored, making this dish extremely satisfying. The generous portion, this time too much to finish after the chips, salsa, and queso appetizer, made for an excellent snack later that evening. As was the case during our first visit, the staff was equally as friendly and attentive the second time around. All in all, La Siesta is an exceptional restaurant nestled in Winthrop Center, one to which I would return regularly if only it were closer to home.

The fish tacos were pretty bland, but I try not to judge too much, because it's tough to make mahi mahi savory. Service was good, atmosphere was okay, and the drinks were generously proportioned! :)

I've really come to enjoy eating here. The food is consistently good and over time, as I've tried more of the dishes, I can say I'm a fan. The enchiladas are really good and the mole sauce I wasn't so nuts about seems to have mellowed out, as now I think it's pretty tasty as opposed to too sweet. What I really enjoy are the refried beans. I know, I know...of all the things in the world to rave about I choose a requisite and overlooked side dish. But that's just it -- at most Mexican restaurants the beans resemble Alpo and don't taste much better. Their beans actually make me want another helping. They also make their own hot sauce. I dare you to ask for it. In fact, sometimes they actually have more than one kind and on even more special occasions, the owner himself will bring it to you as he describes with pride how it's made. Then he'll watch you as you turn red. Some like it hot as they say. All and all, it's worth a trip to Winthrop to eat here. It's the real deal.

Absolutely loved this place. The food is great and the atmosphere is fun (most importantly the restaurant is clean!). This was our first time there but the friends we were with are regulars. I can't wait to go back and try something different. I had the chimichanga .. it was huge and I'm afraid to say I ate it all! My g/f had one of the specials and that was delish too! I'll be BACK !!

This was in our regular rotation for a while. The Queso Gundado is addictive. Camarones Mojo de Ajo are good, but the burrito was still the best thing on their menu. Problem is the last time we went in there it was off. Average Mexican food on our last visit and we're debating whether to ZipCar over there for a return visit.

Guys, what happened!? My last 2 meals there were bland... There prices went up, they remodeled. The Vegi Burrito was tasteless and luke-warm - 2 times in a row. Vegi dishes need flavor too! Thankfully the drinks are decent and the wait staff is very friendly and welcoming.

I have to say, this was one of the few 4 Yelp star places I've been a bit disappointed with. The food was fairly unimaginative. It wasn't bad tasting, but it wasn't anything I'd remember the next day thinking "wow, that was fantastic Mexican food!" I'm giving them 4 stars because they do gluten free - something you don't see at a lot of Mexican places.
(4)

Completely average. The chile verde burrito did not taste like the green chile sauces you find in the southwest. It didn't have much flavor at all actually and somehow managed to be both bland and salty. The chile Relleno was soggy and had an odd bitter aftertaste? Disappointed that the good reviews led me here.

La Siesta has become a mainstay in our restaurant rotation, and after my dinner there on Sunday night, I feel like I must update my review. I've been trying to jump start my labor, and it's been said that spicy food can help that. Sunday night, I started having some mild contractions and figured I'd try the spicy food route again to see if it would have any effect. So we went to La Siesta, and I ordered my normal veggie burrito sans beans, but I asked for it to be made extra spicy. The waiter was like, "Well, how spicy?" And I told him I'm trying to have this baby stat, and I'd like it as spicy as possible. And he said, "Spicy like jalapenos, or spicy like habaneros?" And I told him to give me the habaneros. Well this burrito was no joke. It was freaking spicy. And awesome. And it made me sweat. I must have downed four pints of iced tea and water (and some extra sour cream) before I was done with it, but sure enough, I finished the whole thing. And the contractions started. At midnight that night, I went to the birth center in labor, where I stayed for the next 12 hours. But then, unfortunately, my labor stopped progressing and I had to be sent home to wait for more progress to be made. And nothing has happened since then. Sigh. But I will tell you that if nothing has happened by tomorrow, I will be going back to La Siesta and ordering another one of those burritos with habaneros. It's nice that this place isn't afraid to make their dishes extra spicy when their diners request it. Such is a rare quality in a restaurant these days! P.S. As of 2/5/10, the beans at La Siesta are now vegetarian! Woot!!

My quest/obsession to find good Mexican food in the Boston region has led me here to La Siesta. I've had a number of people tell me this is the ultimate in Boston's Mexican dining scene. Let's start with the name. La Siesta. It's not inspiring confidence. I feel a bit like it's going to be a fleabag motel, but ultimately, it doesn't affect the quality of the food, so let's move on. The interior? This is more like it. The best Mexican restaurants I've ever eaten in all share this ridiculous tacky aesthetic that is one part Mexico, one part 1970, and fifteen parts neon paint. Yeah, it's definitely not pretty to look at, but then, in my experience, the best never is. They're too busy making your eyes roll back in your head in ectasy to notice the fact that there is a mural painted entirely in day-glo colors. This place, if look are any indication, will be amazing. The food (a.k.a. the main event) was, if i'm being brutally honest, good, but uneven. The chips and salsa were pretty delicious. We also ordered the queso fundido as an app. It was cheesy, but kind of an odd texture. It had a meat flavor, but no real meat texture. It was ok, but forgettable. For the main course, I ordered the Mole Enchiladas at the recommendation of the server. Admittedly, I'm not a huge fan of mole sauces because I find them too sweet/chocolately for a savory entree. This mole was different in that it had almost no chocolate flavor but was overwhelmingly flavored with cinnamon. It was good, not great. My boyfriend had a steak dish (I can't recall the name) and it was delicious. 10X better than what I had and by far the best Mexican dish I've tasted since moving here. For dessert, the four of us shared an order of the fried ice cream. It was quite good, but not really "authentic." Thank you Yelp! for that free dessert with the check-in! Honestly, as far as Mexican goes, this might be the best I've tasted in Boston so far. Acitron, while completely different, ties with this place for my favorite. I'm not convinced this is the best out there. Anyone else have a suggestion?

Some of the best Mexican food around. The menu offers more than the usual Border Cafe fare which is refreshing...according to the owner, they are recipes from his family. Also has great margarita's and a nice, festive atmosphere.

As many of you know, La Siesta has indeed expanded. The hubster and I go once a week, usually mid week (to break it up and lift our spirits a little) and enjoy the Ultimate Margarita which is delicious. I usually go with the tres tacos. They come with a chicken, steak and an al pastor taco. But I've been going all al pastor lately because it's just so damn tasty!!! He usually goes for one of the specials. The past couple of weeks we have been served by Vivian who is very sweet and attentive. And we usually get a table side visit from Martin who is the owner, also very sweet. I am so glad their still here and hope they'll stick around for a long time to come.

No more BYOB since they now have a full out bar. (And an actual bar you can sit at!) GREAT Mexican food, which was unexpected in the middle of Winthrop! Their chips and salsa are SO good... so good, my roommate and I requested two fill ups. Their guac is chunky and delicious. Roommate got the fish tacs, which he loved, and I got the tres tacos - half of which is wrapped up and in my fridge to be consumed tomorrow!! SO good. I love that their tortillas taste homemade. And big enough portions where I couldn't finish my meal! Usually unheard of (but at the same time - also probably due to the 2 baskets of chips and salsa we polished off!). It's just super good, down home Mexican food. Owner is visible greeting tables, and the restaurant is full of families, couples out on dates, older folks... everyone's welcome, and they all leave full and happy! :) Muy bueno!

Best Mexican food east of the Mississippi River! I love this place and I try to go at least once a week. They make really good ground beef tacos and seriously, the best chile relleno I've ever had (and I've had a lot!). I am not a fan of mole, but they do have a chile verde sauce, and a ranchero sauce that are both delicious. Enchiladas are superb and so are all of the seafood dishes. They make a sangria margarita! Yes, tequila and red wine in the same drink! One would think that wouldn't taste good, or would be a bad idea, but trust me, it's one of the best margaritas I have ever had. The chips and salsa are very good and they have two other salsas upon request, a jalapeno salsa (very hot!), and a habanero salsa (haven't tried, too scared!). Go here, go often! -Written by someone who lived in New Mexico for 18 years and is extremely picky about Mexican food

Charming Winthrop's La Siesta has quickly moved to the rank of my favorite Mexican restaurant in the Boston Metro area. Located on Winthrop Square, their mix of authentic Mexican entrees with the more familiar TexMex fare is spot on. I love the Tres Tacos, a trio of soft corn tortillas filled respectively with grilled chicken, carne asada and al pastor (marinated pork), served with beans and rice. My dining partner in crime loves their enchiladas, but strayed on our last visit to sample the Chile Verde Burrito, a whopper of a burrito filled with roast pork in a green chile sauce and topped with MORE of the chile verde sauce. Scrummy! Chile heads rejoice! La Siesta has a house made habanero sauce that is sure to please those of us looking for a serious kick in the mouth with our meal. The restaurant is super clean and cute and service is always attentive and courteous. Prices are extremely reasonable....if we lived closer.... we would be eating here much more often.

We really like this restaurant. We've had many different dishes, both for dine in and take out. It has many of the standard items like enchiladas and tacos, and a few extra goodies too. My other half likes the chili relleno and the vegetable fajitas. I'll have pretty much anything on the menu, but the chimichanga is one if my favorites along with the relleno or a cheese enchilada. The staff is nice, the restaurant has a nice atmosphere but it can get a little loud in evenings. The only complaint I have about the food that earns it four instead of five stars is that many of the sauces used are too sweet. I don't get this adding sugar to everything, this food is supposed to be savory, not sweet. Save the sugar for dessert, not the enchilada sauce.

I made a special trip through Eastie to come here. I am not sure if I would a come again, unless I was in the area . This place is small!! Only about six tables. I only wanted a pork burrito, which is my Mexican standby. I go that and some chips and guac which was very creamy and rich. A little chunky too which I like. A family owned business and they guy whom I thought was the owner was nice and pleasant. The pork had good flavor, similar to Tacos Lupita. Burrito size was huge. I managed to stuff fit all down and waddle out. Cute place. Again, its way out in Winthrop, but it your in the area, its worth checking out. Even though I did not, they allow people to BYOB.

Here's the long and short of it - La Siesta is the bomb. I've been going here since it first opened in Winthrop and was just a tiny restaurant with approximately 10 tables. It has since expanded to include at least the 99 seats required for a Winthrop liquor license and has 3 rooms in which to dine, plus a bar. The food has stayed consistently delicious. The waitstaff is friendly. The owner is super nice. The decor is bright and cheerful. They are accomodating of groups large and small. The margaritas are plentiful and yummy and strong. I just really freakin' love it. Seriously. You should go. As a matter of fact, take me! :)

I've been looking for a decent Mexican place since I moved to Boston that serves more than just burritos... La Siesta gets 3 stars mostly because Mexican food is so bad in Boston, and they at least know what a chile relleno is. The service was friendly, ambiance was nice, and the margaritas were pretty good. The basics: any good Mexican place has to have good chips, salsa, rice, and beans. chips - decent - especially for Boston salsa - weak - absolutely no spice, and it might have come from a jar beans - had an odd flavor that tasted kinda like burned bacon fat... rice - not good - it almost made me cry...rice is very important to me Main dishes: I was somewhat disappointed at this point, but the main dishes were alright. Chile Relleno - decent...at least it was on the menu Chicken Enchilada - not bad, but not memorable Ground Beef Enchilada - not so good Tres Tacos - average Steak Burrito - looked pretty good, but I didn't trek to Winthrop for something I can get at Chipotle. Good for Boston...but not worth the the hassle of going to Winthrop

This place has some spins on authentic Mexican food and it also carries the expected Tacos, Burritos, Enchiladas etc. Always great food and excellent service. My buddies and I go here at least once a month. Friendly staff and the owner is a great person. I highly recommend the "Enchiladas Mole Poblano" Go here for good food, good drinks and a great atmosphere.

On my current quest to find the best Mexican food in greater Boston I stumbled upon La Siesta. They have a great selection of mexican dishes. Nothing too different than you would expect to have. I chose the carnitas dish as a second choice, I wanted a carnitas burrito but they only server pork burritos. The carnitas dish was a solid choice, it came with a side of guacomole, rice, beans, and cheese. The dish was cooked great and was loaded with flavor, although I prefer my carnitas a little crispier. I got take out but the dining area looked very nice, the yelp photos don't do it justice.

The atmosphere was nice and the bartender was super friendly and helpful. We ordered the appetizer platter and a combo plate. The food was OK but on the bland side. The margaritas were from a pre-made mix. It was a fun experience but I much prefer the Mexico Lindo in Melrose or The Border Cafe in Saugus.

I have been here a few times since its been open and have always found the food consistant. I went again tonite with my husband, we had a 630 reservation on a sat nite, and were seated right away. The chips and salsa came right away, salsa could be a little spicer IMO, but the chips were really good. I got Chic fajitas ($14) which were well spiced, and came with tortillas, rice, beans, scoops of guac, sour cream and pico. My hubby had the steak chimichanga, $11, we both thought the portions were good, but not huge, we ate everything, Also, I asked for a side of the hot sauce, and it was really hot and good, def recommend it. and then finished up with the fried ice cream for dessert, $4 which was excellent. I wouldn't say the food is super authentic mexican, more like tex mex, but still yummy! Our waitress was very nice and attentive, although I did not get her name.

It's been three years since my first review and I thought I'd update it. Still the best Mexican food in the area. Everything is good, and lately the specials have been out of this world. The nights when they have jambalaya I feel lucky, it is amazing! The place is always clean, the staff is helpful and the food is great. I love coming here.

Friday night Mexican dinner. La Siesta was a good alternative to the Eastie Mexican joints. I didn't even know it was in Winthrop, thanks to yelp. We made a reservation and were seated right on time. They recently expanded the restaurant. We didn't sit in the new side but the old one which has a lot less space cause of the kitchen. The newer side looked very nice though, even had a small bar near the front window. Warm chips were brought over with salsa. That was a nice touch, we ended up eating that and skipping an appetizer. The menu had some basic stuff like tacos and quesadillas, then some house specials. I saw the fish tacos and knew that's was what I wanted. My bf got the steak fajitas, which were highly recommended by our server. For drinks we got a sangria and a margarita. The sangria was very sweet, the margarita was all syrup and came without the salt, we actually sent it back, then another was brought over. Frankly, it was not much better. We thought it would be more authentic. The food arrived very fast. My fish tacos were good. The sauce on top especially was tasty. The fish was chopped finely. I kind of would of preferred it in bigger chunks or strips but it was still tasty. On the side was some seasoned rice that wasn't bad. My bf's fajitas arrived in a sizzling skillet. I thought the portion of beef could of been larger. It was heavy on the peppers and onions. There were only 3 small tortillas, a couple more would of been better. Towards the end the owner came over and asked how things were. I appreciated that. There was also a strong family presence throughout the restaurant and kitchen. I would still return and try some other entrees.

La Siesta is truly one of the best restaurants in Winthrop! I have experienced the dinning room and the bar both were very comfortable and enjoyable! I tend to always order from the specials menu- which has never let me down. Service is attentive and accomodating!

One of my favorites. The food and atmosphere is amazing there. The staff is very nice and efficient. The owner is an awesome guy too. Very personable, and always walking around saying hi to everyone. There is a reason why we use to go there every week. Too bad I moved, I really miss it

Consistently tasty and the service is great too. Huge fan of the chicken tortilla soup and the fish cakes.

By far my favorite place for Mexican food! The best night to go is Thursday night for their chicken special! I have yet to find anything wrong with this place. Everything is great from top to bottom: the staff, the food, the drinks, the owner Obviously I would recommend this to anyone looking for something to eat in the Winthrop area.

LOVE La Siesta! While I've moved out of Winthrop, I still make the occasional trip back for some tasty Mexican food (usually corresponding with a visit to the 'rents). The service here is always great--the servers are attentive and truly friendly. The space itself won't blow you away, but the food is pretty delicious. The margaritas are great, though I do usually stick to Corona Light. I'm a huge fan of hot/spicy food, and am often quite disappointed by the salsa at most Mexican restaurants. While La Siesta's can vary a bit day to day, it normally has a good level of spice to it. Surprisingly, my favorite entree there isn't spicy. The fish tacos are my standby, and it's so hard for me to to stray from them. The fish is fresh and grilled, which I prefer to the fried fish tacos I've had previously. The rice that accompanies them is fluffy and full of flavor, though I usually hold back in exchange for eating all three of the tacos. Other items worth trying include the guacamole, the chicken special (which they always seems to have), and the chicken poblano. Overall, I'm a huge fan of this place!

I almost hate to write a shining review because I don't want it to get TOO crowded! But I can't help it. Martin and Ann are wonderful hosts and the food is beyond good. They have the best fish dishes! Even their rice is better than anywhere else. My husband is spoiled for any other Mexican restaurant now.

Love Martin and the gang. Friendly service, they never rush you out. Nothing bad on the menu! The margarita's are soooooo good and they expanded the bar which is so fun, A great local hangout and a favorite of mine and MANY of my friends. Chicken Poblano....to die for and the desert burritos...oh my!

We made a reservation for this past Friday night, but it turns out we really didn't need to--it wasn't too crowded and we were seated right away. The decor was really nice, and the lighting/ambiance left nothing to be desired. The location is convenient (as convenient as anything in Winthrop can possibly be, that is)--right down Woodside toward the Center, and next to Hong Kong Dragon. We started off with an Ultimate Margarita each, and let me tell you, that stuff is heaven in a glass. The chips and salsa were delicious. I ordered the Enchiladas Mole Poblano and my boyfriend had the Enchiladas Suizas. Neither of us had any complaints--I slightly prefer the chicken mole at Zocalo, but that's just splitting hairs, and I like beans at La Siesta much better. At just $8.95 each, the prices are very, very reasonable. Our server had a good sense of humor and she was very polite and friendly. She gave us more time when we needed it, brought us our food/drinks relatively quickly, and joked around with us a bit. It's pretty hard to find food that isn't Italian, a sub/pizza shop, or pretty crappy Chinese in Winthrop, so I consider La Siesta a lucky find. I definitely plan to return.

one of the best mexican restaurants i have ever been to! the food was absolutely delicious and i loved the decor & atmosphere. only con was the service. it could have been worse, but the waiter hardly came over to the table after we ordered our food- we had to keep tracking him down to get refills on our drinks, more salsa, etc. but otherwise, i will definitely be going back here!

I am a huge fan of Mexican food and try to find the latest and greatest whenever I travel so I was very excited to hear about La Siesta in Winthrop! We stopped in here on a Sunday night, after traveling back from the holidays via the Mass. Pike and wanted to celebrate surviving the post-Christmas traffic rush. We were greeted at the door by a friendly staff member and were promptly seated. The atmsophere was neat (very authentic) as they had tiled tabletops and chairs with a "distressed" look to them. Our waiter was very nice and attentive. The Manager (I think), came over during dinner to check on us as well. The chips and salsa were FABULOUS! Salsa is the measuring stick of any good restaurant! There is a small bar to the left when you enter, very quaint! We were full after our meals (cue chips and salsa!), so we unfortunately did not have room to try the fried ice cream, as others have recommended. The menu the was good and the prices were reasonable (2 meals/1 soda/1 ice tea = $20). A great find! Enjoy!

I love the inside of this place. Its so festive. All of the food is really good and its so nice to have a non italian restaurant in Winthrop! I wish the menu were a little larger and easier to read but like i said EVERYTHING is good. I love their nachos and mole. Like i said, a larger menu would be nice, somethign where you can pick and choose a few items would be ideal.

Great Mexican! Fresh, Fresh, Fresh. If you like stuff out of a can, stay away. This is outanding Mexican food. Very picky about my Mexican, and La Siesta holds it's own with anyone anywhere. Great service, great decore. Priced just right. Owner greets all diners at thier table. Perfect for families. Best Mexican in Boston end of story.

Being new to the Boston area from Southern California, which has an abundance of awesome Mexican food, I wasn't expecting much from La Siesta. I was pleasantly surprised. The salsa is really good and I very much enjoyed the Tres Tacos. The staff was strong as well and enjoyed an after dinner drink in their bar. Friendly neighborhood place and a good meal.

The most bland, uninspired mexican food I have ever had. I came for lunch and got the mexican flag enchiladas (a sample of their different kinds) and was not impressed at all. The refried beans had no taste, the rice was dry and the enchiladas themselves had a weird taste and didn't look appetizing. Its sad because I had such high hopes for this place after reading the reviews on here but I was GREATLY let down. For shame La Siesta, for a place named after a nap you really were asleep at the wheel.

I could not love the food more, the people are amazing and the drinks are delicious, while still doing their job! It's so hard to get authentic Mexican food, but La Siesta delivers with delicious dishes, and even better hospitality. My boyfriend and I always feel at home when we eat and hang out here :O)

My husband and I ride our bikes to La Siesta and then binge on the Skinny Maria margaritas - the owner's own recipe. The chipotle wings are a must and the fajitas are consistently good. When they have the 'mexican chicken parm' special - it's to die for.

La Siesta was surprisingly delicious for local mexican food. The best part of the meal was the Tortilla soup; it was the best I ever had. My boyfriend ordered the tres tacos; the pork one was too salty, and the other 2 were a little too dry but flavorful. I ordered the chile verde burrito but actually received the chile colorado (my waiter wasn't the best, but the other 2 waiters in the restaurant looked very on top of things) but nonetheless, the chile colorado burrito was very good! So all in all, the meal had great parts and not so great parts. The atmosphere was cool and I loved the music. The restaurant was super clean too! I will definitely go back though and would recommend it to anyone.

Good margaritas. Excellent burritos filled with delicious meat. Chips and salsa were good although the salsa could have had more kick. A great stop if you're in the area.

Great Margaritas! We only really get their Specials, worth the extra $$$$. Most often it's a variation of the same one, either fish or chicken with a spicy cream sauce.. it's to DIE FOR!!!! Very Friendly staff. Definately recommend!

The people that work here are always friendly and inviting! I like the atmosphere a lot. The decor is also really pretty. I have the veg burrito, chicken ranchero burrito and they were delicious and so large I had to take half home! I also have had fried ice cream and highly recommend it. I love this place!

Went here for the first time tonight. Coming from Quincy, but made the trip because we had a coupon. This place was busy, so expect a wait on a Friday or Saturday. But the food and service were great! The margaritas were excellent. We met the owner on our way out and he was telling me about that it's his own recipe. Very good! If you're looking for Mexican food, good service and a relaxed atmosphere, this is the place for you.

I am giving this place a 3 cause I cant do a 2 1/2!! Yesterday I decided I wanted fish tacos and decided to Yelp fish tacos to see what came up and this place had the best rating and reviews so I figured me and my boyfriend would give it a shot. Location is not very hard to find since its in Winthrop Center and the center is very small, it is located right next to the Hong Kong Dragon chinese restaurant. Inside is really nicely decorated with Mexican artifacts and what not and the colors are really warming. We were seated in the back in a smaller room which was cozy and promptly served chips and salsa which were really good. Our waitress explained the specials for the night and asked for our drink order, nothing special two cokes. We decided on getting the sampler appetizer and I ordered the fish tacos and my bf got the enchilada mole poblano. Since we havent eaten all day we were starving, our appetizer came out piping hot and very cheesy. From what I remember it had beef flaunta which were greasy but yummy, chicken taco was pretty decent, cheese and poblano pepper quesadilla was pretty good and cheesy of course, and the nachos had refried beans which tasted like typical canned beans to me and lots of cheese (they love cheese!), but it was yummy all together but just a typical appetizer you can get anywhere else. Our waitress came over cleared our appetizer plates and then put in our dinner orders which was really cool cause my bf and I like to have our appetizer settle first then eat our dinner so that was refreshing. Our dinners came out and by first look it looked decent enough but we were a bit disappointed. My bf's mole wasnt the typical dark, chocolatey mole that we are use to ordering instead it was red and not so much mole was there. The chicken was dark meat and the enchilada's were packed with chicken seemed to be to much as well. My boyfriend only ate one of the enchilada's and we didnt take that to go either. My fish tacos looked good but for 13.95 I didnt think it was worth it at all. The fish was grilled, which is fine, but there was no pico de gallo and just had lettuce and the chiptole ranch dressing on there but tasted more like horseradish sauce. I only ate 2 of them and didnt take the other one home either. We ordered a flan for dessert just to complete the dinner and it was really thin and really gooey and not a good gooey either. To us it didnt seem like a homemade flan at all. The service was good as the waitress was attentive and brought our food to us in a timely fashion, refilled our drinks and was really nice. The atmosphere was really nice as well as it was getting busier as the night creeped in but this is typical "gringo mexican" food as we call it. For the 43 dollars we spent we could have gone else where and had a better dinner and been a lot happier. We may give this place another go but def not order what we did so we shall see. Overall its an ok place but can definitely find better if you looked especially when your in the area East Boston has some good spanish food to eat.

A cold fall evening was brightened up by the blues, oranges, and yellows in this friendly and warm restaurant in Winthrop. Outside of the atmosphere, the food itself was fantastic. Simple and straightforward Mexican food. We dared to say it was better then Angela's...at least in terms of the mole. The tres tacos was loved by my boyfriend, especially the pork . The margaritas on the rocks were the perfect accompaniment. And we were even visited by the owner who told us the recipes were from his childhood and his mother's own kitchen. Make a visit to this place soon! And yes...it's worth a trip to Winthrop!

Excellante! It seems like any time I write a review it's negative, so I would like to personally thank La Siesta for kickin' ass. Everything I have tried (which is pretty much the whole menu) has been so traditional and authentic, I feel like I'm back in Guadalajara...just kidding, I've never been to Guadalajara, but it sounded good! It's hard to not fill up on the awesome homemade chips and salsa, I like to throw a little green salsa in the red to spice it up a bit. My regular entree is the chicken poblano, it is out of this world. The chipolte cream sauce is so good that I get more on the side to pour over my rice...mmm. The only downside is that they kind of sold out a little bit after expanding, not that I blame them but the prices went up a couple bucks here and there. Taking away the BYOB option was not cool, because nothing was better than bringing a bottle of some homemade Sangria. P.S. leave room for the fried ice cream, it's ridiculously good!

Ho Hum.... Sunday night we drove our appetites to Siesta to try it out with our groupon. Decor is cute. Place was fairly busy which we took as a good sign. Waiter got an attitude because we asked for something, and when he delivered it, we asked for lemon (for fish tacos). So he says "is there ANY thing else YOU need". Not a happy camper, and definitely not enhancing our dining experience. Not like we were a pain in the butt. Sorry buddy, excuse me for inconveniencing YOU, like it a long 20 foot haul to the kitchen? Fish tacos were sort of mushy (no I'm not a formal foodie reviewer so that's my best descriptive adjective but succinct); not an appealing texture for fish especially. And, they were overspiced, not referring to heat level, but over seasoned. Between the consistency and the overkill of seasoning, not pleasing. For a fish taco I prefer fleshy chucks of fresh tender fish, grilled, BBQd or fried. These fish tacos ranked 3 on a scale of 1-10, maybe the very small bits of fish were sauteed, coated with seasoning. I could have done this myself. My pal ordered shrimp fajitas. The veggies were lacking and scarce, the shrimp tasty but a bit dry. Far from special - won't be returning. Too bad these restaurants don't impress, since that is the point of the groupon, to recruit new and 'repeat' business. We tipped the waiter well in a moment of full food belly. The tacos were plentiful but I didn't clean my plate - they just weren't worth going the distance.

Let me say first I have avoided Mexican food for years. All I could think of was the smell when you walk into On the Boarder and Border Cafe, how your clothes smell when you leave. La Siesta is so different, the owner doesn't believe Mexican should always be overwhelmingly spicy and the food was incredibly fresh. This restaurant was amazing. Can't wait to go back.

The tres tacos are the way to go. When I ordered them the first time I was a little suspect of a pork taco. Turns out that was the best one. The people there are so nice. The owner always comes over and chats with my party when I have been.

I truly want this place to be great, but it just isn't. It's okay. The bar is a really nice addition, and I hope they do well, but there are better choices for this kind of food. So true -- it's a relief to have a restaurant choice that's not Italian. The taqueria on Saratoga St. in Orient Heights next to Woody's liquors is better. Especially if you're looking for real-deal tacos and Coronas like you'll find at those roadside places all over Mexico. I was looking for a mexican restaurant with the good stuff for a long time and finally stopped there after driving by hundreds of times. The name just says "Taqueria "and I can't find any info online... EDIT: It's called "Taqueria Michoacan".

FINALLY- A restaurant that is NOT ITALIAN in Winthrop! I have been to La Siesta about a half a dozen times, and it never gets old. Complimentary chips are served upon arrival...and we usually get some guacamole- which is just perfect at La Siesta. I have had many of their menu items. All are great. The chile rellano is an a la carte item that is like heaven in the form of a pepper. The chicken burrito is the best burrito I have ever had. It seems as if they pull their chicken and balance the white and dark meat out so it isn't too dry- isn't too greasy. My favorite thing on the menu is the scallop entree. I believe it is served over rice with a saffron cream sauce that is spicy, sweet and flavorful. Someone at your table must get this and share! Never had dessert- but the fried ice cream looks spectacular! Service is great (seems like it is the same chick everytime)...and the owner comes around everytime to ask about your meal. It seems like he really cares that you have a great experience, and that is so rare these days!

Generic "Amerixican". It was bland and boring and I've had better meals at Chilis and I dont like chain restaurants. It was not authentic and while cheap it was over-priced for the quality. The servers and hosts were lovely but I would not go back.

La Siesta has redeemed themselves (THANK GOD!). Last night's meal was exceptional. Chicken Poblano was delicious. Have I mentioned before their famous margaritas? I'll be back.

I decided to venture out of the South End to Winthrop because #1 the South End does not have a good Mexican place and # 2 I purchased a Groupon. I will definitely be going back to this place without the Groupon, it is a haul from the South End, but the best Mexican I have had in the Boston area hand down.

hello fellow yelpers . first of all , i will have to say this small hidden gem nestled in the heart of winthrop is the best kept secret on the north shore for authentic mexican food . the lady and i frequent this place at least twice a month , and the food is exceptional , nice quiet subdued atmosphere , where you can talk and enjoy a couple of margs w/ salt ( my fave ) and the lady's frozen strawberry marg was also nice . go for any of the specials and of course the home made chips and salsa . you cannot go wrong here . fair prices for what you get in return . do yourself a favor and go here !

We live in Winthrop, so we go to La Siesta frequently... especially when we are too exhausted to make dinner and need some good spirit-lifting soul food. This place just makes me happy. Its on-street parking, but never hard to find a spot. It has nice decor, the hostess is always very attentive and friendly, and we are always seated quickly (even on Friday nights!)... and on the rare occasion we have to wait 2 minutes, there is a nice area that you can wait in (unlike other restaurants that have nowhere to wait which makes you feel so awkward!). The tables are comfy and spaced out nicely, and there are a few different seating areas which makes each table feel pretty intimate and private. There is one male waiter that we get all the time (I forget his name, but he has an accent) and he is the NICEST and SWEETEST person I've ever met. We also frequently get the waitress named "Chica" (yes, her real name!) and she is very friendly and its always a good time chatting with her. The owner is also frequently around talking to staff and customers... he obviously has a lot of pride in his establishment, and it shows! The food here is always incredible. I can't say that I'm an expert on "authentic" Mexican cuisine, but everything is always very tasty, fresh, wholesome, and satisfying. They also provide large portions for reasonable prices. My husband and I often like to get some of the sides and appetizers in a sort of "tapas" fashion, and the waiter/waitress always asks in what order we want things to come out - which is nice, we can customize our dining experience, and that way, we KNOW they are making everything to order. Some of our favorite dishes are... - the chipotle wings (a flavorful Mexican twist on the Buffalo wing, with just enough spice) - queso fundito (ooey gooey bowl of melted cheese, ground sausage, scalions, peppers, onions and love) - chimichanga (the BIGGEST one I've ever seen, is incredibly delicious, the sauce is amazing, but ask for it on the side so you can dip at your will without the whole thing getting soggy if you're a slow eater like me!) - any of their dishes that come with refried beans, they are surprisingly very very good! We definitely recommend you try out La Siesta... they have great service and food and will be sure to make you leave happy and full!

La Siesta is small, but set up in a way that you feel comfortably close to the next table - not knocking elbows. The waitstaff is young, but helpful and quick to answer questions or get more drinks or chips. Watch out it is very easy to fill up on chips (which are ever so nice and warm!) the salsa is good and the guacamole is good too, though lumpy and did it have shredded lettuce in it? I'm not sure, but the guacamole comes with a huge spoonful of sour cream, so beware. Two people I went with got the taco salad, which is huge and looked delicious. They both said that there was just enough meat, and more than enough taco for them. I got the Tres Tacos, and I agree with Chrissy, it was seasoned well, I just wish I had thought to ask for spicier salsa or something - the owner (or some random old guy who came over and asked how the food was) did also tell me the same facts about the food I just read in the other review. I would definitely go back and hit up Woody's on my way. It's a BYOB spot, which I love - although aren't they using a corking fee here too? There was something on the window about that, but I didn't pay attention to it. I would love to make it all the way through the menu, I don't think I would be very disappointed.

This place is great. Owned by a really sweet family - and they are always present to make sure all experiences are complete. The new addition (its been about a year now) is truly terrific. It has its own bar now (although I always miss byob!). The chips and salsa are terrific. Most dishes are spectacular or very very good. I stick to basics - like tacos - and they do it up right. For all East Boston folks: if you want Mexican - this is authentic and delish. Other Yelpers from Eastie have critiqued La Siesta. Humorously - the taqueria mentioned by one Yelper is no longer open (guess it wasn't THAT much better, eh?). Keep on keepin' on - the only Mexican joint in Win-tro-pay!

This is probably the best Mexican restaurant in Massachusetts, and better than most I have been to outside of New England as well. And I am a huge Mexican food fan! The prices are awesome and the service is usually good. Although I do usually have to ask for refills on chips and salsa, which is a pretty big no no for me. But the food more than makes up for it.

I do not know why this restaurant is not rated 5 stars!! EVERYTHING is delicious, the specials, the guac, the tacos, the burritos, the enchiladas, the fajitas....seriously, you can pick anything on the menu without hesitation! My personal favorites are the guacamole which comes in a tortilla shell and has shredded lettuce in it (which is delicious and uncommon in the Mexican restaurants I have gone to...I even started using it in my own guacamole recipes!), the chicken special which is usually served on Thursday nights but if you ask they will make it for you anytime (chicken in a creamy garlic sauce with spinach and mushrooms over a bed of rice), the chicken fajitas, and of course the CHURROS!! I love the churros, I would go there to eat just to eat those delicious pieces of fried dough! They are drizzled with caramel sauce and served warm with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream...amazing! La Siesta is a great restaurant, and the people who work there are extremely friendly. All-in-all, La Siesta is a definite on my dinner-out rotation!

This cantina has given me purpose to rate differently then I have done in the past. Don't get me wrong; I have always liked Mexican but, La Siesta has me now craving where I long for a return. Got a "groupon" and Thursday night decided to check it out. I started with the Ultimate Margarita and it was fabulous, so were each of the Ultimatesthat followed, they were each consistent. Had the scallop dinner and it was truly the best Mexican plate I ever ate. Our waitress Tahnya, was very accommodating I had the pleasure of meeting Martin the owner. He was the height of professional and sincerely interested in our thoughts about the service and food. Martin also shared the location and how his mother nd people from his community reflect what he offers at his restaurant. I told him I was most impressed with his bartender as she not only made a great margarita but was obviously an expert behind the bar. I also took a tour of the expansion as suggested by my waitress and I could not get over the size as it looks small from the outside. Not including the small bar they have three rooms to eat; it was clear that cleanliness is a priority. The prices also great so you can see I have nothing but good things to say. Martin, keep up with the lessons your mother taught. I have a strong feeling that you and La Siesta's are here to stay!.

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

If you're looking for the Best Mexican Cantina. This is it!!! Fun, Quality Food, Family Atmosphere. One of my favorite places to have a drink after work!!

Best Mexican in the greater Boston area. This is one of my favorite dinner spots. The staff is kind and attentive. The food is always fresh and the drinks are always delicious.

La Siesta is the best restaurant in Winthrop, hands down. I usually order the Callitos, scallops which are pan seared, with rice in a creamy Chipotle sauce which is to die for. Also very good is the chicken special, which is chicken in the very special sauce with rice and sautéed spinach. They have a very extensive menu and are very accommodating. All of the staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. They create a great atmosphere. On Saturday nights, they have a real, live mariachi band ( two or three gentlemen) that go to each table and serenade them. My daughter loves this. This is a free service, but I like to tip a few if I can...LaBamba never gets old... La Siesta has a great beer/wine list and a great cocktail selection. I highly recommend the caramel apple martini.

Three words: Thursday chicken special. You absolutely need to get it. And you can request it any day. You will not be disappointed!
(5)Keith P.
This was a gloriously authentic departure from the bland corporate food of our Boston vacation this far. The chile relleno was absolutely incredible. Though they have many fancy and delightful sounding margarita options, I had the standard on-the-rocks and it was delicious and strong.
(5)Tony P.
Awesomeness
(5)Bill M.
Best place for Mexican seafood, always something on the daily special including pasta dishes. An app that always rocks is the chipotle lime chick wings.Ive just gotten them for an entrée and crave them when I'm in this area. It's worth the trip. FYI this town has a bunch of other hidden places that crush it... Worth a visit!!
(5)M B.
Was there again last night!! Had the fish fajitas! this place is so great and they never disappoint. Their red sangria is so yummy.
(5)Kevin S.
My absolute favorite restaurant. I'm from California & La Siesta's Mexican food rivals the absolute best! Great food, great service, & great atmosphere!
(5)Kilgore B.

(4)Laurie B.
Love this place, best SALSA ever, they always have great specials. The staff is outstanding.
(5)Christy S.
(5)Steve C.
Awesome food period. Just go and you won't be disappointed. Been there many times and have never had a bad meal.
(4)Anthony C.
So far so good drinks and a ape called "Callitos" is reall good and im sure my meal will be good as well...Definitely will Return hear...
(5)D D.
La Siesta is great , never a bad meal even to go! I'd like to see some specials like x meals to go for like $ / pick up only.
(5)Evelyn S.
(4)Jullie L.
Always delicious and always friendly. Best Mexican food I have found in New England! Very clean and professional yet a fun atmosphere.
(5)Erin R.
I took my students on a field trip here for lunch. All the waiters spoke in Spanish and really encouraged the kids to do the same. The food was phenomenal, the service was outstanding, and the owner was friendly and interactive! The students can't wait to go back!
(5)Maria L.

(1)Nicole L.
Best local Mexican I have had, way better than border cafe and fat cactus. Their margaritas are strong and delicious, food tastes fresh. I highly recommend their chicken special but you honestly cannot go wrong with anything on their menu. Newly expanded bar and live mariachi band on weekends!
(5)Liz S.
Great food, great drinks, great atmosphere what more would anyone need! I highly recommend the fish tacos!
(5)Matt Y.
As a vegetarian this place is only fair. You can order a mole sauce off menu which is my favorite dish.
(4)Denise I.
I was so excited to find a Mexican restaurant in Winthrop. I was so happy with my dinner choice. I had the chili relleno! Delicious food, cute place and great service!
(5)Laura S.
Love this place! The food is delicious, authentic, and fresh. Everytime I've been, it's been super crowded... but that's what happens when there's a great restaurant in a tiny town. I would definitely recommend the flautas and the guava margarita.

What better way to prepare for an upcoming 'Snowpocalipse' than to fill myself up with some tasty, comforting Mexican food after a nice little drive to Winthrop. We drove past block after block of residences and finally, at the turn of a corner, the place appeared to us and we parked. We were slightly hesitant about walking in, it looked very dim, almost like it was closed - It was 2PM after all but we proceeded to walk in and found a charming, casual Mexican restaurant inside and were excited to head there for our late lunch, armed with a Groupon in our hands. After sitting down in the nearly completely empty dining room, we were given menus and ordered our drinks. They have some margaritas, a decent selection of beers and various other staples like Jaritos and sodas. The menu is pretty standard and isn't totally authentic but will satisfy the general population. After a good look, we ordered the guacamole dip to share as a starter and then I decided to get their Enchiladas de Mole Poblano for my entrée. While we waited for the food to come out of the kitchen, our drinks arrived along with some chips and salsa. Their salsa was great! Not spicy but it tasted absolutely amazing, and shortly after our guacamole order arrived, served in a tortilla shell and with some homemade tortilla chips. I found the shell to be unnecessary as we already had the chips which were fried but it all tasted pretty awesome. I did however notice that the guacamole had some pieces of shredded iceberg lettuce in it which I thought was weird - it still tasted great and the lettuce did provide some interesting texture contrast but it was very unexpected. Then arrived the enchiladas, which came with a side of refried beans and some rice. They were stuffed with some shredded chicken and topped off with some delicious mole sauce. My partner in crime ordered the same thing and we both happily dug right in. As I had expected from previous Yelp reviews I had seen, the meal was fantastic and the mole sauce was well balanced, with a good balance between the chocolate, the spices and the other ingredients in it. The portions were on the generous side as well and although we were famished walking into the place, we had trouble finishing and eventually left a bit of food on our plate, which was shameful considering how good the meal was. The service was right on par and wasn't intrusive but was attentive nonetheless. The prices were also great, considering that with my soda, my partner's beer, the guacamole and our two enchiladas orders, our bill didn't pass $33. The Groupon redemption was also very easy and I wouldn't hesitate to go there more often although it isn't exactly close by any means. This is a solid, casual dining spot and one of the best that Winthrop has to offer!

(4)Alicia M.
Authentic Mexican? Not so much, they didn't even make a good guac!
(1)Lori T.
(5)Jeff F.
(3)honda c.
Love love love! I hate the people who come around and play music to you but if you don't make eye contact they don't come... This place is soooo good
(5)Jason L.
(2)Artem F.
(4)Nikki Z.
(2)Maura G.
Sat at the bar with some friends. Amazing and attentive bartender. Chips and salsa were really, really good. Food was excellent. Highly recommend as a night out with some friends.

(4)deanna d.
The best Mexican food around. Chicken special is amazing. Some nights they have mariachi band. One of my favorite restaurants! Hidden gem. :)
(5)Amarie B.
Some of the best Mexican food around. The menu offers more than the usual Border Cafe fare which is refreshing...according to the owner, they are recipes from his family. Also has great margarita's and a nice, festive atmosphere.
(4)Vloritine H.
Great food, drinks, specials and service! The place is clean and some of the touches are elegant.
(5)Kim M.
It's okay. Nothing like California Mexican hole in the wall restaurants.
(2)Chrissy H.
(5)Max C.
Amazing food, great margaritas. Highly recommend the steak enchiladas with their special Mexican chocolate mole sauce. Yum!! The siesta platter was good too.
(4)Joanna C.
(4)Heather F.
(5)Patrick H.
(4)J C.
We are here once a week. I love everything about this place. The staff is the best, the sangria is awesome, so is the salsa, chips, fajitas......great work guys
(5)J W.
(4)Matthew A.
(3)Kate E.
George is the best bartender ever! PS GO Mole!
(5)Stephanie V.
(5)Daniel L.
(3)Ryan C.
(5)Michael C.

Awsome food , great service and good desert.

(5)Matt T.
One of my favorites. The food and atmosphere is amazing there. The staff is very nice and efficient. The owner is an awesome guy too. Very personable, and always walking around saying hi to everyone. There is a reason why we use to go there every week. Too bad I moved, I really miss it
(5)Marissa M.
Consistently tasty and the service is great too. Huge fan of the chicken tortilla soup and the fish cakes.
(4)Chris D.
(5)Kim S.
(4)Linda C.
(5)Sandra S.
(5)Jess H.
(5)Monica s.
one of the best mexican restaurants i have ever been to! the food was absolutely delicious and i loved the decor & atmosphere. only con was the service. it could have been worse, but the waiter hardly came over to the table after we ordered our food- we had to keep tracking him down to get refills on our drinks, more salsa, etc. but otherwise, i will definitely be going back here!
(4)Beth E.
Enjoy!
(4)Alysson A.
Amazing Mexican food. The owner and staff are always very friendly, and the price is pretty good. Wonderful atmosphere.
(5)Dan G.
(4)Dave J.
(5)Eric T.
(3)Matt C.
(2)Michele P.
Amazing! Great authentic Mexican food. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, Every thing on the menu is great!!!
(5)Ann M.
I could not love the food more, the people are amazing and the drinks are delicious, while still doing their job! It's so hard to get authentic Mexican food, but La Siesta delivers with delicious dishes, and even better hospitality. My boyfriend and I always feel at home when we eat and hang out here :O)
(5)Amanda J.
My husband and I ride our bikes to La Siesta and then binge on the Skinny Maria margaritas - the owner's own recipe. The chipotle wings are a must and the fajitas are consistently good. When they have the 'mexican chicken parm' special - it's to die for.
(4)Nikolette C.
(4)Marisa W.
Great food and good prices. Love the fajitas, carnitas, and tacos. Good service and the owners are friendly. A real gem.
(4)Dave B.
I've been here a handful of times and always been satisfied. Be sure to order a margarita or two with your meal.
(4)Kat L.
Good margaritas. Excellent burritos filled with delicious meat. Chips and salsa were good although the salsa could have had more kick. A great stop if you're in the area.
(4)Soren V.
Great Margaritas! We only really get their Specials, worth the extra $$$$. Most often it's a variation of the same one, either fish or chicken with a spicy cream sauce.. it's to DIE FOR!!!! Very Friendly staff. Definately recommend!
(5)Elana H.
Best Mexican in the Boston area. Everything they make is to die for. Even if you're not from Winthrop, it's worth the trip to eat here!
(5)Noelle B.
The people that work here are always friendly and inviting! I like the atmosphere a lot. The decor is also really pretty. I have the veg burrito, chicken ranchero burrito and they were delicious and so large I had to take half home! I also have had fried ice cream and highly recommend it. I love this place!
(5)G S.
(5)Andrea K.

(5)Matt G.
The tres tacos are the way to go. When I ordered them the first time I was a little suspect of a pork taco. Turns out that was the best one. The people there are so nice. The owner always comes over and chats with my party when I have been.
(4)R E.

(4)T R.
Generic "Amerixican". It was bland and boring and I've had better meals at Chilis and I dont like chain restaurants. It was not authentic and while cheap it was over-priced for the quality. The servers and hosts were lovely but I would not go back.
(2)C L.
La Siesta has redeemed themselves (THANK GOD!). Last night's meal was exceptional. Chicken Poblano was delicious. Have I mentioned before their famous margaritas? I'll be back.
(4)Anthony P.
I decided to venture out of the South End to Winthrop because #1 the South End does not have a good Mexican place and # 2 I purchased a Groupon. I will definitely be going back to this place without the Groupon, it is a haul from the South End, but the best Mexican I have had in the Boston area hand down.
(5)Stephen B.
hello fellow yelpers . first of all , i will have to say this small hidden gem nestled in the heart of winthrop is the best kept secret on the north shore for authentic mexican food . the lady and i frequent this place at least twice a month , and the food is exceptional , nice quiet subdued atmosphere , where you can talk and enjoy a couple of margs w/ salt ( my fave ) and the lady's frozen strawberry marg was also nice . go for any of the specials and of course the home made chips and salsa . you cannot go wrong here . fair prices for what you get in return . do yourself a favor and go here !
(5)Richard D.
Visited this palce the other night with some friends. The Margarittas are very good the food ok, and portions quite small.

(5)Julia F.
(4)Kay M.
(5)Melissa C.
(5)Nicole H.
(5)Paula G.
