fresh sandwiches. I tried the prosciutto sandwich ( basil +mozerella- tomato) and it's very good; I was super hungry so I guess that also contributed to how good the sandwich was. But next time I will def try other sandwiches as prosciutto is not my favorite personally. Price is almost 10bucks; did they increase the price??

Prosciutto Mozzarella Basil There are only 3 things in their Prosciutto lover's sandwich and yet it was one of the best I've ever had. I squatted outside their door before they opened to pick up a sandwich for lunch. Service was great. They didn't throw any shade at me for buying a sandwich full of cured meat at 8AM in the morning. With this sandwich, you get a healthy serving of melt-in-your-mouth prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, and even fresher basil. I held onto this for 5 hours before eating half for lunch and the other half for second lunch (it's a big sandwich!) and the bread did a solid job in staying put. Please pay these men a visit.

The Meat Spot has some delicious (and huge) sandwiches and it's a great grab-and-go kind of place. I'm a big fan of their tomato and mozzarella and also their prosciutto. Love their brownies--loaded with chocolatey goodness. It can be a 10-15 minute wait if they're busy, especially if they're out of bread, but everyone in there is friendly and the service is pretty good. They also close pretty early, so it really is more of a lunch spot than a dinner spot, unless you come early. All major credit cards accepted as far as I can tell.

Amazing meats and the deli!!! Prosciutto Lovers is now a staple, so thin it melts in your mouth and a perfect moz, basil, oil. A must try!

Prosciutto lovers sandwich is all I have had from here beside their sweets which are equally as amazing! The sandwich is one for the memory bank though, I crave it all the time, I have heard from clients that live in the area all their stuff is a homerun. This is one of those little stores where you can also find unique items such as Rose Lemonade and great italian pastas etc.

Prosciutto Lovers Sandwich- I can't say anything more than has already been said, but all of the others are spot on. This is one of the best Sandwiches that I have had anywhere. Guys behind the counter were helpful too.

What a great little sandwich shop/deli! I got a roast beef sandwich and it did not disappoint. It was stuffed to the brim with roast beef, didn't skimp on the lettuce, and was sandwiched inside some delicious whole grain bread. And on top of that, the customer service was excellent. I'll definitely be coming back.

This has been a consistent go-to lunchtime sandwich shop for me since 1996. Dick and Harry (owners) have probably travelled around the world twice each on the money I've spent on this place all these years... and you know what? I'd say "They've earned it and deserved it!" They've kept me happily fed for nearly 20 years. I can't say that about anyone other than my mother. I can never go wrong with a Meat Spot Favorite (but I remember when it was just called the "baked ham & smoked turkey" sandwich) or the stuffed chicken with broccoli and cheese.

Been going here for years, as it is right around the corner from my work. Never got around to writing a review, but it doesn't look like they really need mine! They are consistent, friendly and everything is delicious! My favorites over the years, the chicken and tuna salads, the potato salad, tortellini salad. I went on a mozzarella sandwich stint for a good long time, threw in a tuna sandwich panini once in awhile, but now am in love with their felafel wrap with hummus, feta, tomatoes and spring greens (I like them so much better then iceburg)! I also treat myself to the fresh baked zucchini or apple breads or the super fudgy brownies every once in awhile. Their portions are always great and big! Can't say enough about them. I usually go on off-peak hours...but if heading in during lunch be prepared for a big line!

Very mom-and-pop- locals flock here. I had a turkey sandwich with all the fixins (lettuce tomato onion hot peppers pickles) and my hubs had the ham and cheese. Although they were out of sub rolls, (that must be a good sign, right?) we really enjoyed the rye swirl bread. I was very fixated on the fresh pasta salad and veggie sides while we waited, but we just got the sandwiches this time. Can't wait to go back to try something else on the menu!

The Meat Spot became a weekly ritual when we were seeking deli meat and cheese. Harry is incredibly friendly and efficient, definitely an expert when it comes to recommending cuts of meat for grilling, roasting, etc. Try the spicy capicola, prosciutto, and black pepper pastrami! They also have a selection of pasta and other pantry items (i.e. spices, rubs, sauces, mustards, etc.) for convenient shopping!

A thin sliver of a butcher, a par-baker and a sandwich steak maker. Sirloins cut to order, which I unfortunately passed up in favor of the Proscuitto Lover sandwich: sliced when you say so and how you say so San Danielle, layered with mozz and leathery basil on a slightly undercooked roll (is this a trend? Does it last longer?) for $8.50. The buttery meat has a bit of rind but otherwise falls apart unto itself in a salty flow of protein lava. Mozzarella cools it down, basil fans the flavor flames and, while I usually like a splash of balsamic for sweetness and acidity, the dash of ground black pepper actually rounds out the fattiness of the rest. Quality. It's a lovely 'wich, especially after braving that flippin' intersection just outside and to the right. That said, it still plays sweep to Dave's Fresh, Bob's Italian Food Store and Cafe Rustica - oh that rosemary focaccia! I do dig the availability of Dirty Potato Chips (if you've never tried them, you're only cheating yourself) and Cherry Coke Zero in the fridge, side-saddle to six rows of Nantucket Nectar. For the sweet of tooth, check the individually wrapped baked goods at checkout (they know where to get you) and as previously mentioned but not heeded, get yourself a cut of beef.

Wow..what happened today. I am hoping this was an exception to the rule. Got the go to item, the Prosciutto Lovers sub...awful. The meat was cut really thick, and it was chewy like jerky. The bread was meh today. Tasted like it was made yesterday. No dressing, salt or pepper. Dry and unappetizing. I can say I honestly have never had a bad sandwich there until today. But won't be rushing back anytime soon if that has become the new norm. Also to add, the guy on the phone could have cared less when I called. "yep. nope. yep". I hope the old guy is there to smack you in the head.

Everything is great here all the sandwiches my favorite are the chicken salad, turkey/ham, roast beef. Marinated Steak tips are awesome. Only negative is parking is tough

Why is there such a marked difference between meat purchased at a butcher, and what you find at Shaws/Market Basket/etc.? At first I thought it was just because I usually freeze meat from the supermarket, but I froze this meat too and it defrosted beautifully. I bought their sirloin burgers, which came out excellent. Super flavorful, not too fatty, but enough so that wonderful oh-so-slightly greasy burger crust formed on the bottom of the pan after cooking. The meat retained the moisture and I was able to make a true medium/medium-rare without erring on the side of e.coli. I also tried their chicken cordon bleu on a sandwich, which (obviously) puts the frozen fillets to shame. So delicious, so inexpensive, so local.

My go to spot for sandwiches and all things deli. As a New Yorker one of the first shocking things that I realized about Boston was that there were no delis around. This was rough for the first few years..... Until I discovered the Meat Spot. In the last few years I have been here around 100 times and on each occasion the sandwich has been excellent. The grilled Chicken is chunky, the mozzarella is fresh as can be, and the egg sandwiches are perfect. They even sell my favorite brand of iced tea. The owner and workers are all very nice. Bottom line, they make amazing sandwiches and sell only fresh products.

LOVE the Meat Spot. The sandwiches are all AMAZING. The guys that work there are friendly and great, and will make whatever you want with a smile. I go at least once a week and have never been disappointed.

  • Z P.

These guys are awesome!! Everything always fresh. The meat is top quality. But best of all is the service. The brothers are super knowledgeable and always eager to help with advice. Sandwiches and salads are pretty good too, and reasonably priced. But the best is the stuff they butcher to order. We have some family recipes we make that call for copious amounts of ground meats, and we cant go anywhere else for the quality. Something for everyone- must check at least once!!

What a great spot! I have been here with my husband in the past for deli meats and decided to use them recently to cater lunch for my office. They catered perfectly to each of our team's particular food preferences (meat lovers, vegetarian, no dairy, etc), and everything was delicious. They got the order perfect and my coworkers were raving about the food. Highly recommend for everything from a quick bite to a catered event. Thank you Meat Spot!

I have been coming here for 15 years. Dick and Harry make the yummiest sandwiches, even for vegetarians like me. I love the hummus and feta on a wrap, or the havarti and honey mustard on a baguette. Love the natural sodas as well. Nowhere to eat here, so you must take everything to go.

Nested pretty much in Watertown Square, right across the street from the Staples and CVS, the Meat Spot is pretty much a blessing. And despite not having a private parking lot, only street parking, I've made my way there for a quick, affordable and delicious lunch during my break while at work. Made my way other there with co-worker from Allston and let me tell you, it was worth every mile we drove. We made our way in around 12:30PM and despite a bit of a line, we knew immediately that it would be worth it. Upon entering, the delicious smells of cold cuts and bread invaded my nostrils and I salivated as I gazed at the counters that lay in front of me. Behind the glass of the counters was all kinds of delicious looking meats, each ready to be sliced to order. There was also some chicken salad, tuna salad, some roast beef and various other things. Opposite the counter, against the wall were a bunch of fridges packed with just about every drink imaginable. From Orangina and Diet Coke to fancy lemonade and root beer. The selection was a bit overwhelming. Oh and did I mention the freshly baked goods? The brownies, banana nut bread slices and the cookies? But the health conscious can rest assured, there's also fruit, salads and even yogurt. And don't even get me started on the various convenience items that they carry as well: coffee, pasta and all kinds of other random food items, most of them of pretty high quality. But going back to my story, we were in line for only a few moments before a friendly staff member took our orders and made the sandwiches to order. I decided to get the turkey and blue cheese which came with some lettuce, tomato and a balsamic-based dressing. The blue cheese wasn't actually blue cheese dressing but instead was blue cheese crumbles. It was a-m-a-z-i-n-g and best of all, affordable at under eight bucks. The bread was great as well. All in all, this place is a hit and I marveled at the selection of sandwiches on the blackboard behind the counter - and cannot wait to return and try them all! Seriously, this place is divine. On a side note though, if you intend to pay by card, there is however a $10 minimum. But if you haven't hit $10 with your sandwich, rest assured, there's a ton of goodies that you can pickup to easily reach that minimum.

  • Estela L.

I love the meat spot, my favorite is the prosciutto lover and i love their rice crispy treats. I would give them 5 stars except they have this new younger guy who makes terrible ugly messy sandwiches! Ugh! Next time I go, if that guy's up for my turn to make a sandwich, i'm going to pretend like I don't know what I want yet and let the guy behind go ahead of me.

    (4)
  • Amy A.

YUM! I got the most boring and plain sandwich ever (turkey, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and light mayo) but it was still so delicious. They have quite a menu selection, but it's also like a little shop inside with unique shelf food you can buy as well.

    (5)
  • Ryan B.

The best deli in Boston. Every sandwich I've had has been delicious and the staff from owner ship down is great. I've also been getting lunch meat and steaks all of which have been reasonably priced and amazing.

I almost never write reviews here, but if one place warrants an overwhelmingly positive review, it's the Meat Spot. Everyone that works here is so nice and friendly, they could sell me the worst sandwich I've ever eaten and I'd probably still feel compelled to throw a compliment their way. That being said, they also offer the added bonus of making incredible sandwiches. I've been working a few doors down for over three years, and I don't think a week has gone by without me stopping in at least once. I almost always get the salami and mozzarella or the chicken salad (they're just so consistently good that I have trouble straying from them), but everything I've had has been excellent. The prosciutto lover's sandwich, the ham, the marinated steak tips, and the bacon, egg, and cheese on a plain bagel are all delicious. Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name; if you come into the Meat Spot a couple times and you're not a horrible person, it'll probably become your own person Cheers -- the owners, Dick and Harry, and everyone else there are so warm and personable that they'll feel like your friends right away. If I sort of liked the food here but much preferred other options in Watertown Square, I'd still come here to support them, because they're a stand-up business. Luckily for me, they also provide the most satisfying lunch you'll find anywhere in the area.

I wrote a review for Emilio's in Watertown, declaring that they have the best hot subs in Watertown - meat spot has the best cold cut subs, hands down. I love the bread for their sandwiches, it seems to be baked fresh. It's like French bread but it's not nearly as hard....which I think is a good thing. The "meat spot favorite" is a gem of a sandwich. The kalamata olives are a brilliant addition to the meat spot favorite. All their meats are sliced fresh, also a great thing. So why only 3 stars? Meat spot has specialty sandwiches each day, usually hot subs like chicken parm, steak tip or meatballs. I waited patiently for their meatballs, because everything else was so good and the store appears to be ran by an italian family. Anyways, the meatballs are a disaster, the best word to describe them would be "bizarre". They taste like taco-balls, like the family literally takes Ortega taco mix, blends it with beef, molds it into balls then throws it into sauce. They take the phrase "that's a spicy meatball!" to a whole new level. I taste a ton of cayenne pepper, or something that shouldn't be there. I'm a decent guy though, I'm not gonna take away two stars cuz I'm not a fan of one of their sandwiches. After I initially tried their meatballs, I came back vowing to never order them again. So I walk in, I order an italian sub with pickles and what do they give me? You guessed it, a bizarre taco-ball sandwich. I was the only one in there! That did not sit well with me. Most of the people that work in there, particularly the older owners are nice. The younger 20-something's (most likely children of the owners) are pretty unpleasant. They don't say anything rude, but their body language is always says F-U! So that's why I had to deduct two stars. Don't let that drive you out of here though, the place is still quality. In fact can you try the meatballs just to see if you agree?

    (3)
  • Lorna W.

Don't eat the prosciutto lovers and drive. Its flavors are too distracting. You will crash. I would eat this everyday if I lived here. They even use a nice baguette. Minus one star for offering pretty name brand groceries instead of better imports. And that's being pretty mean.

Just opened up my chicken salad sub with lettuce, tomato, cheddar cheese and roasted red peppers. Took a bite---closed my eyes and let it all sink in. The chicken salad here is the best I have ever had. They confirmed they make it on site. It's delicious. The consistency is perfect, no big chunks, no artificial looking cubes (I'm looking at you and your new recipe TRADER JOES!), just shredded quality chicken with just the right amount of mayo. You can actually taste the star of the sandwich, not just the mayo like so many others. The roasted red peppers were so good and the lettuce isn't your run of the mill iceberg, they had almost like an arugula on there with fresh juicy tomatoes. The bread is incredible. Crusty on the outside, melts in your mouth soft and chewy on the inside. This was a sandwich worth writing an entire paragraph on social media in its honor. I ordered the proscuitto lovers for my better half based on the fanfare within reviews on Yelp. I have no doubt he will love it. Lastly - the owners are nice, it's on the way home and it's a locally owned family business. All worth supporting.

So as years and years go by, super stores, walmarts, targets and the such try to take over everything. You may save a $1 here or there, but you don't get the quality all the time, and you don't get the service either. Well for all the people that hate warehouse stores, mass marketing, and super markets, The Meat Spot is a shining beacon of hope if you like meat, go here! Yes, seems to simple. But a good butcher is hard to find. Its not the 50's anymore. And you can walk in, order what you want, they ask how you want it (ex : "Do you want your sirloin 1" think of 1.5"thick), and cut it for you great people. great service. excellent meat, and the prices aren't that snappy either! worth checking out!

  • Michael L.

This place was recommended to me by a co-worker whose cousins own the place. I realized she was actually saying the name was "Meat Spot" and spun on my heels in that direction. Well. I ordered the "Meat Spot's Special" which was three Italian cold cut meats with all the fixings. Even though I was only in here 5 minutes I received a nice big sandwich with freshly sliced ingredients. The price tipped the scale a little at $7, but for such an excellent sandwich I am more than willing to pay. The nicest touches were the chopped olives and the added sauce I don't know/care the origins of. Tastyyyyy You could also go in here for neighborhood butchery, and I think you would get the best service around. I just think I'd be frowned upon carrying meat around all day...

  • Sushiman S.

we did take out from there yesterday, a variety of sandwiches and salads... Service was good, but retrospectively, we should have called ahead as it is a busy place... Our food courier got the impression that this was a place where there was a large group of regulars....Said the butcher shop looked like a winner as well. The favorite sandwich of the group was the prosciutto special... Great flavor....! We'll be back

  • Christopher M.

As I munch on a fresh loaf of bread, marveling at the sweet, sweet Prosciutto that sits inside with fresh tomatoes, basil and soft mozzarella cheese, I kick myself for living 100 yards from The Meat Spot for 3 years and never venturing inside. Yelp, where were you in 2005 when I needed you??? The Meat Spot is a superb deli with fresh ingredients, reasonable prices and excellent customer service. It should definitely be a stop on your Watertown Square lunch rotation.

  • Hogger K.

What a sandwich shop! From the outside, it looks like something from the 1950s, but once you step inside, it's part deli, part gourmet food shop. I ordered the Prosciutto Lover's sandwich and it was heaven. It shows you what can be done with great prosciutto, homemade mozzarella, terrific bread, and the right quantities of both. If you're the type of person who loves huge layers of meat on your sandwich, this might not be the place for you. But if you are looking for high quality meat (and you want to really enjoy the taste, too much meat can overload the palate. Meat Spot has just the right amount. Give it a try. The food is great.

This place is really great! I have been going here for years. First of all the meats and veggies are very fresh and of the highest quality. I never worry about them skimping on quality or portions here. Everything here is great. To name a few, the wraps with flavored cream cheeses are amazing. The roast beef is really tender and juicy. The chicken stuffed with brocolli and cheese is sooo yummy! Dont be discouraged by there appearance. they are located on a busy street in watertown square in an older building, but a large parking lot exists behind the shop and it is easy to get in and out. Their soups are homemade and vary every day. One of my favorites is the Italian weddding soup. The chicken soup is just like grandma makes. Oh and they have bagels and cream cheese in the morning if you are in the area and it is surprisingly good! This place is usually packed during lunch hours so if you get there at 11:00 or after 1:00 you do not have much of a wait. there is no where to sit down and eat inside the sandwich shop it is just line up and place your order to go. however there are nice benches about a block down on the charles river where you can sit, look at the water and enjoy your sandwich. I have also purchaed steaks and chicken to take home and cook. they have a really nice selection of sauces and other items you can take home and make and entire meal yourself. Again I found the quality great on these items as well. The staff is always friendly anad they remember you (A NICE ADDED TOUCH THESE DAYS!!) They are happy to accomodate special requests and to offer a smile even though they are usually crazy busy! I just went there yesterday and had a roast beef wrap and was again thrilled with my choice.

  • Mike T.

This place is excellent - went here for a steak and the owner cut me a center cut filet, 2 inches thick ...one of the best home steaks I've ever had! They have a good selection of homemade foods and imported pastas/sauces and marinades. They also serve Boars Head deli, which is just the best. Highly recommend this place...the owner is a good guy and the steaks are great.

I was throwing a dinner party and needed a 4 pound beef brisket. Since moving to the area, we have driven by this place multiple times without trying it. I called them to reserve my cut of meat and went to pick it up. The shop is full of goodies and I almost wanted to buy a sandwich. However, I picked up my meat for a semi-reasonable price and took it home. I was a bit upset at the cut they gave me because on one end it was cut in half lengthwise, kind of like a flipper. Since I was braising this in the oven to then slice later, that imperfection caused a bit of trouble. I also expected the cut to be thicker instead of long and thin. I cooked it anyway with cranberries and portobella mushrooms. Even though everyone thought it was delicious, I thought the meat was too thin and not tender enough. I am hoping when I order beef ribs, they will be better. I guess I will have to be more specific about the type of cut I want.

  • Dani N.

You don't even understand how good the sandwiches are at this place. The steaks are one of my favorite dinner treats. The guys who run the place can be a bit gruff sometimes, but they're very friendly once you've been there a few times.

    (5)
  • Barbara A.

Yes, their sandwiches are great BUT their meat is what keeps me coming back. It is always fresh and they are really nice. They listen to your needs and really try to help you out. If you need raw ground meat for your kefte (the raw kind) worth a trip here. Also, never disappointed in the stuff I have order for holidays. Defintely a good place all around.

  • Katie F.

Prosciutto lover -- prosciutto is cut so thin, it literally melts in your mouth. No joke! People throw that term around like it's nobody's business, but I'm dead serious. That sandwich was undoubtedly one of the greats in my life. Hot Pastrami Sandwich -- also very, very good. The boyfriend ate most of it, but of the bite I had, I can say pastrami is still the reigning champion of deli meats for me. Service -- out of this world. The guys are exactly what you'd want in your local deli guys. They're extremely friendly, will talk to you about basically anything, and really don't mind getting in your business and joking around. They almost remind me of my deli men back in NY. I love them for it.

I've lived in Watertown for three years, and I've walked by this place countless times and never gone in. Then one day my husband said he bough a couple of groupons here. My first thought was, 'That tiny place near where I get my nails done?' I didn't even know they sold food. The name is a little off putting, at least to me, but after getting sandwiches here two separate times, I'm a fan. The groupons were $10 for $20, so it was a good deal. We've now tried their roast turkey and cran-orange relish wrap, the Meat Spot Favorite sandwich, the Meat Spot Gourmet Italian sandwich, and the chicken salad sandwich, and all four were very satisfying. If you're like me and you've walked by this place but never gone in, give it a chance- it's pretty cute inside and the food will impress you.

    (4)
  • Lauren K.

What a disappointment, prosciutto lover was so pathetic that I had to cut my own tomato, pick my own basil from my plant and add some pepper... before my first bite. After the bite, less impressed, good idea but horribly executed. My boyfriend had n Italian sub, and was satisfied but wasn't up to the hype we've heard. Also no take out containers for aside of hots... Must have been an off day.

No matter where you work and no matter how many dining options you have available to you at lunch time, you inevitably get sick of the "same old thing." I never get sick of the Meat Spot though. In fact, I've never once turned down the offer when my co-worker suggests "Wanna hit the meat spot?" (maybe because I think it sounds a little dirty when he says it?) I always get the Greek salad wrap with chicken but today I opted for a plain and simple roasted turkey sandwich on a crusty whole grain roll with spicy mustard, lettuce tomatoes & pickles. Damn, if it wasn't the best turkey sandwich I've had in weeks...maybe even months. (Co-worker swears by the prosciutto & mozzarella sandwich or the tuna). There's always a line at lunch but they move everyone along quickly and the staff are some of the friendliest men in Watertown, I think. They also have a small but very nice selection of gourmet foods which are fun to look at while you're waiting. I always end up with something I don't need but just must have (like a jar of "Bone Sucking Sauce" for example).

    (5)
  • Karis T.

I got the Meat Spot Favorite (With Baked Ham, Smoked Turkey, Feta, lettuce, tomato, olives, roasted red peppers & house dressing) and while the insides of the sandwich were good, the bread was super hard - way to hard to bite through. My co-worker got one of their roast beef sandwiches and experienced the exact same thing. They need softer bread!

  • Andrea G.

The sandwiches are just as amazing as the name! I worked down the street for about two years and while I would love to hate this place for making me gain a few LBS... I can't. The owners Dick and Harry (I giggle too) make you feel SO special every time you visit! If you come more than a handful of times you can bet they will remember exactly what you order and your name! I love these guys so much that one time Harry gave me wheat instead of wholegrain and I didn't have the heart to tell him it was wrong. So yes, while the staff is great... this isn't exactly the sit down type of place (as there are no seats)...so let me tell you about their food! I am a serious stickler when it comes to deli meat. I will RUN if my meat glistens, produces some sort of jelly or I can literally that smell cold cut refrigerator smell. You Will NOT get that here! They carry boar's head (which in itself is amazing) but theres something about their boars head that is extra delish! All the toppings are fresh and I have NEVER gotten a pickle or hots end in my sandwich, unlike other surround delis which just throw on toppings blindly. They have a really cute gourmet packaged food section in the front which I have taken advantage of during the holidays for gift baskets!

I love sandwiches, they are probably my favorite food. The meat spot offers a great variety of lunch items, and some gourmet grocery items as well. In particular the prosciutto sandwich (one of the specials listed on the board) is my fav. The only gripe I have is that the line is ridiculously long during lunch times (not really their fault) and there are no seating options.

I rarely order subs outside of my neighborhood of Mission Hill. if i want a cheap tasty filling sub, i go to chachos on tremont st. If i want a full flavored sub made with love tasting of heaven exploding your tastebuds i go next door to chachos for Wan Convienance. However if i want a sub and i'm not home, there is no doubt I go to the Meat Spot for their subs that are made with care and precision. The guys who work the shop are really nice and they dont skimp out on the ingredients which taste really fresh to me. i also love their drink selections.

mmm mmm mmm good. I really thought that the bread would be ripping apart the roof of my mouth, but instead it was soft and chewy and perfect. I got the MS favorite and my friend got the tomato and fresh mozzerella. She managed to put all of hers down, but I could only handle half. I think it was because I opted to round out the meal with a side of pasta salad. I took a star away because my sandwich dripped oil on my shirt. Not that was such a bad thing, but now I have to do laundry.

I noticed the countless entries of the Prosciutto Lovers sandwich, had to have it... and was completely satisfied with it, its as good as everyone mentions. Absolutely fantastic sandwich.

Yelp 5 star reviews are well earned. I haven't had a sandwich this good in a looooonng time. See pictures of the Prosciutto Lovers Sandwich that I got there. It was as good going down as it looks in the picture. My company just moved into Watertown Center so I plan on being a frequent visitor to The Meat Spot ! The only negative thing I can say (and I hope they fix this soon) is that there are no take out menus. My company recently wanted to pick up lunch there but they had no menu besides what was on the blackboard @ the shop. A simple 1 page website w/ current menu items would be excellent. --Update-- Someone from my office transcribed the menu and I posted the photo - enjoy.

A nice place to get sandwiches but no seating so only to go. Staff feels like family, and seems very well established. I have tried about 4 kinds all were good. The office favorite is the chicken cordon blue, tasty comfort food.

Got a delicious turkey sandwich fro $5.75! He sliced the turkey right into the sandwich. The best. Also grabbed some reasonably priced Boars Head cold cuts. This place is the perfect sandwich shop. I'll be back.

Thank goodness for the Meat Spot. If anything ever happened to this place, Watertown Square's professional population would be seen wandering the streets, trying to figure out how to get on with their lives. Seriously, this is the go-to destination for the Watertown lunch crowd. Walk in here anytime during typical lunch hours and expect to see a long line of people waiting patiently to get their sandwiches prepared and wrapped by the friendly yet efficient folks behind the counter. The line moves briskly, but they'll always remember to give you bread for your soup and will send you on your way with silverware and a smile. I haven't been on a huge sandwich kick as of late, but the Meat Spot also offers treat pasta salads and other random treats.

This is a great neighborgood market; I only wish it was open later!! The man who runs the show is super nice and always accommodating. Prices are good and they make killer fresh sandwiches.

I didn't even know this place existed and probably drove by it 200 times since I moved to Watertown. It easily has cost me getting the Prosciutto Lovers sandwich probably 50 times in the last year. Easily the best sandwich place I have come across since moving to Mass. And believe every bit of hype about the Prosciutto Lovers sandwich.

Although their sandwiches (among other items) are beyond delicious, my review has a lot to do with the people that own the place. Friendly, inviting, funny, complimentary. It is one of those places where you feel like you are visiting with family. To top it all off, you leave with a killer sandwich. Just shut up and go. Tell them the red head sent you!

I will definitely vouch for the proscuitto lovers sandwich. It's bliss. They make a number of other good, deli type sandwiches. They make a decent chicken salad, not too much mayo and good sized bits of chicken. If you want a fresh sammich in Watertown Sq, come here and continue to ignore that D'Angelo across from the Dunkins. Also, they bake a mean chocolate chip cookie. The deli counter is pretty good too. There's a decent selection, and while there is a lot of Boar's Head, it's not all the same stuff. The meat ccuts available aren't as cheap as say, Shaws'...but the quality is a lot better. Take that for what you will. They have a couple little sides -a little slaw, a little hummus, a little tabouli- that are simply all right, not too great. They have a ton of fancy items: Stonewall Kitchen stuff, some random sauces and condiments and cans of veggies and such...but really, skip it. It's a little pricey and it's all stuff you'll find in any supermarket. Unless you want to drop 8 bucks on a small container of lemon curd or whatnot. Watertown Square needs a little market,. And while the Meat Spot isn't perfect it's a lot better to shop at instead of say, CVS. or the former Store 24.

I was very satisfied with their sandwich!! I love prosciutto so I had to go try it. I have had several sandwich at different place with prosciutto but this place was gooood! prosciutto lovers is the way to go! Although, I'd love to go back to try other sandwich as well. I ended up getting few meats from there because it was fresh! If you live around this area and you have not tried, you are missing something! Guy works there ( maybe owner?) are super friendly! :D

#1 on yelp? So there. This place is an excellent example of Truth.com .. but nothing's really smoking here except the mighty fione sandwiches.. HEY-o-OOOOOOO. Straight down Mt. Auburn Street. Small, clean and quiet shop basically. That simple looking Prosciutto Lovers Sandwich when ordered looks exactly like that. Prosciutto cut is perfect with tomato, mozzarella and a touch of basil on a chewy bread. Nothing else to it. Delicious. Pickles in the sandwiches are also thinly sliced with crunch. This real delicatessen of goodness should be on a corner somewhere in every town.. Watertown... WHY? Womp womp womp.

Went in to get some lunch-meat from the deli and was surprised that everything was Boar's Head. I have to admit I was a bit disappointed since I thought there would be more of a homemade feel to this place. We ended up getting some hot pepper turkey and muenster cheese. They also have a lot of interesting pantry products like imported cookies, pasta, sandwich fixings, etc. Picked up some great hot pepper spread and some all natural salt and pepper chips. Maybe next time I will order a sandwich, mmmm prosciutto!!!

The pride of Watertown Square. Without fail, this fine establishment inserts two fingers into my stomach, rotates them 90 degrees, and makes a "come hither" gesture, hitting my meat spot with mouthwatering artistry and precision. The sandwiches, nay, SANDWICH, is easily the most brilliant thing I have ever placed in my mouth. I've only once ordered anything else, and that was a mistake. Not because the hot pastrami sandwich was bad, but because it only made me (insert sexually explicit term here) once, not twice. Freshly baked bread, bright green basil leaves, vine-ripened tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, just-cut prosciutto, olive oil, salt, pepper. So simple, so delicious, yet so hard. That's what she said. The secret to this sandwich is the quality of the ingredients. It's something you would have to put a lot of time and effort into if you were making it at home. I suspect that it would cost you a lot more than the $7.25 they charge at the Meat Spot. First, you would have to buy a whole leg of prosciutto in order to slice it just seconds before creating your sandwich. This would also require that you buy a restaurant quality meat slicer, if you don't have one already. Second, you would have to make your bread from scratch. Can you make a good baguette? Are you from France? Third, you would have to buy fresh mozzarella and basil. At any regular grocery store it would probably cost you more to buy these two ingredients than the whole sandwich at the Meat Spot. You could get them cheaper at Russo's or TJ's, but why? Remember in the 40-Year Old Virgin when he talks about making an egg salad sandwich for like 3 hours and he ends up forgetting the bread? You'd probably do something like that. Just go to the Meat Spot.

There is a place just like this in CT called Shoreline Foods and I miss it, more than sometimes. Boar's Head Cold Cuts make such! a difference. The american cheese is what dreams are made of (if you dream about cheese- like I do). The assorted items they sell: cracker's, congo bars, brownie's, things in jar's are top notch. This is a very great basic sandwich place. Something hard to come by around these parts. I had my favorite sandwich on a wheat wrap: grilled chicken, american cheese, red onions and pickles. It was perfect. They have sandwiches that they invented themselves but I prefer mine. Great food, nice people, AWESOME NAME

these are great sandwiches anywhere in the world....but hey, they are in watertown, massachusetts. i work in walking distance from the meat spot, which means i am a regular there during the week (although i must confess i've actually went to watertown a couple of times on weekends just to have a sandwich!). their bread is wonderful, and the sandwiches with fresh mozzarella are to die for....especially the prosciutto lover....the reputation is well deserved. as a matter of fact, everything i've had here was wonderful...salads, lasagna, brownies... a great family run place!

Great sandwiches, more reasonable prices for a better quality than you'd find at the supermarket deli counter, a good selection of interesting crunchy snacks (potato chips, papadums, etc.), and friendly service make Meat Spot a regular stop in my weekly rounds.

I am here pretty frequently. I work down the street and there are few places available in Watertown Square for a decent lunch (unless you like eating the SAME thing every day). I have eaten pretty much the full gamut of the menu. If you are looking for a quick in and out lunch you can grab a garden salad for 3.50 and a topping (chicken or seafood salad are my faves) for another couple bucks OR opt for a chefs salad for 5.50... all fresh prepared. There's also a variety of pasta and bean salads. The owner and other workers are friendly, attentive and will custom make any sandwich... even though the Ruben isn't on the menu he'll make you an AWESOME one. One thing I didn't notice any reviews on was breakfast. Go in at 8 am and you can get a nice, fresh, warm bagel with your choice of cream cheese and tomato or any other topping you can dream up. At a buck and a half for a bagel with cream cheese and tomato he kicks the pants off Dunks... I suggest garlic cream cheese even though your coworkers don't He has a custom sandwich and panini daily... never tried the paninis, but i have tried some of the custom sandwiches from the steak tip to the chicken something or other and they were awesome. definitely a great lunch... and breakfast ;)

First off, Jason K below is a loser. Take your personal feelings towards meat elsewhere and go uselessly protest something. Now that I got that out of the way. This place is awesome, the staff takes a lot of pride in creating each one of their sandwiches. They have a great variety of fresh meats and breads. I would avoid going there at 12 during the week because of the long line. I would suggest taking a look at their specials as well. I just finished a delicious steak tip special and want another one.

Got that famous prosciutto lover sandwich the previous reviewers raved about. It was good... fresh, really liked the bread. But it wasn't amazing. Really friendly staff. I'll definitely be back for another lunch and might bump this place up to 5 stars.

super super tasty sandwiches! I'm never in watertown around lunch time, but on Tuesday I was and made a point of visiting my new favorite deli. everytime I've been the people are always welcoming and friendly, and the service is pretty fast. The prosciutto lovers was delightful. simple, fresh ingredients perfectly layered, the flavor was so completely pleasing. They have a decent market selection with meats and cheeses. I bought sirloin burgers that were a huge hit with the bf. great prices. GREAT quality.

Wonderous selection of meats, cheeses, and condiments. A real lunchtime treat! And Boar's Head meats are my favorite. I got a roast beef and cheddar sandwich on ciabatta, light on the bbq sauce. The roast beef was bloody. This delighted me. Paired with some salt & vinegar chips and a root beer my lunch time was made perfect. Service was relatively fast, but friendly and I wish I could go back! But I live in San Diego now.

So I've walked past the Meat Spot about 10 times and I always thought it was simply a butcher. The sign out front says "custom butchering" or something to that effect - and that could easily make someone think it was a butcher shop. Nonetheless I am so glad I Yelped delis in Watertown and I can't believe I never came here sooner. Too think all the sub-par subs I ate across the street at D'Angelos thinking there should be something better in the area and then going home disappointed. And all this time it was right under my nose. Lesson learned: I will Yelp first from here on out. The sandwiches are perfect. Fresh meat, fresh cheese, tomatoes, red peppers. Daaaamn. I particularly like the MS Favorite. I brought it to work ready to eat it but I was ambushed at the door with free pizza. So the MS sat in the fridge for 5 hours and was still the bomb when I brought that bad boy out to eat later. Feta, olives, red pepers, ham, turkey- shabam! Delish. I'm quite sure I have found my new bi- or tri-weekly deli place that I have been longing for since I moved to the area. The ultimate f-you good bye to D'Angelos.

I don't know how many times I've walked or driven by this place and never noticed it, but went there today with a friend for lunch. Great sandwiches and reasonably priced. I had the M.S. Favorite which was smoked turkey, ham, lettuce, feta, calamata olives, and greek dressing on a baguette. It was like a greek salad with turkey and ham on a roll. It was great. Everything looked good though. We grabbed some chips, some grapes, sodas, and a brownie, and ate it in Watertown Sq. Skip the D'Angelo's across the street for a sub and grab a sandwich here. They also have meats like sirloin tips, chicken breasts, pork chops, and burgers to cook at home. I thought the prices were comparable or cheaper than the supermarket and probably better quality. You can also find canned goods, fruit, chocolate, and other sundries.

Their quality of meat and attention to detail (i.e. cutting to your specified dimensions) and wrapping is bar none. Highly recommend picking up a sirloin steak from these guys - you'll thank me later.

Thanks Yelp for another great lunch place! I've gone here twice in the past week after reading all the positive reviews, and Meat Spot does live up to the hype. The first time I went, I ordered the prosciutto sandwich per most of the recommendations, and was very happy with it -- I mean, it's not earth-shatteringly amazing, but it's a damn tasty sandwich. The prosciutto is freshly sliced and melt-in-your-mouth good, the mozzarella is generously portioned and the basil is fresh and fragrant. Today's visit revealed that the Meat Spot Favorite is also delicious - a very, very well made italian sub that definitely beats the crap out of Subway or the like. Good stuff! Meat Spot has definitely earned a spot on my office lunch take-out rotation.

It's a good thing that Subway poster boy Jared Fogle didn't go to college next to the Meat Spot. He probably would have never lost those 250 lbs that made him famous. And if he never lost those 250 lbs, he certainly wouldn't get to prance around in those perfectly pressed pleated chinos and star in commercials with Kim Kardashian's boyfriend. Yes, we truly are the land of opportunity! If Jared from Subway can become famous by eating crappy sandwiches, anything is possible. I am not a loveable boob. I never wanted to be famous. And I certainly don't care for bread and lettuce sandwiches. I prefer a sandwich that has plenty of meat, cheese, and veggies on it. Meat Spot has the whole sandwich game figured out. You're not going to get a bread and lettuce sandwich here. Nope, Meat Spot makes a serious sandwich. It's fresh too. There's nothing particularly complicated going on here - these guys just make some of the best sandwiches in the area.

The proscuitto lovers sandwich is the best sandwich I've had since moving to the Boston area a little more than a year ago. Whenever I'm in or around Watertown I try and stop in for a bite. The meatball sub is also pretty good. I think the whole reason for the yum is that they use a crusty french bread for the sandwiches which I really dig.

    (5)
  • Ryan W.

This place is fantastic. Great meat, fantastic sandwiches, and the service is top-notch. Check out their specials, the meatball sub is by far the best I have ever had. Highly recommended, great lunch spot (try to get their early, the line goes out the door).

This review is long overdue. Having worked within spitting distance of the Meat Spot for almost nine years, it has been my regular lunch place for the better part of my post-college career. On my first day at this job, a colleague came over around 12.30, asked me what I was doing for lunch, and walked me down the block to the Meat Spot, where she promptly introduced me to Dick and Harry. Now, I like variety as much as the next lady, so I don't eat here every day. But you will find me in there for lunch two to three times a week, and sometimes more in the winter, when the soup's on. I have a personal policy of trying not to spend more than $5 a day on lunch, which can be tricky with their sandwiches, which are typically priced in the $6 to $7 range. However, they are usually made so big that one sandwich and a bag of chips can be lunch for me for two days. Things in particular to try: the salami, tomato, basil, & mozzarella sandwich; the tomato & tortellini soup; their Italian wedding soup; their lasagna; their ginger cookies. But there's more. The sandwich shop and deli is really only part of the deal. In addition (and I don't know why I only recently put this together) they are pretty much a full service butcher. Marinated steak tips and chicken kabobs, pork chops (which can be cut to the thickness you desire), sausages, pork and beef tenderloin, hamburger, chicken breasts... I could go on and on. And if you don't see it - ask! They can usually get what you want (like ground lamb or lamb chops) in a day. So now rather than stocking up at Stop & Shop over the weekends, I can stroll down the block after work and pick up some fresh meat for supper. I heart the Meat Spot.

I especially made the trip over from Central Square twice in one week, just to try to Meat Spot. The first time we got there past 6, and it was closed (I think closing time is 6pm is weekdays, 4pm on weekends). Then we made it here again yesterday (via the #70 bus) and gorged ourselves on 4 sandwiches split amongst 3 hungry college students. The service from the nice (Armenian?) men over the counter was so welcoming and impeccable that I left with a big smile on my face and a bigger growl in my stomach. Ate across the street on a bench next to the Charles River; we got the Prosciutto, MS Favorite, Roast Beef w/Brie, and the Hot Pastrami. Prosciutto was the hands-down favorite, the MS Favorite, not so much. But the Roast Beef was also amazingly good w/the brie and I can't remember having a tastier, simple Pastrami sandwich. Ahh, if only this place were closer, I'd be a regular!

That Prosciutto Lover's sandwich was great, no doubt. But I never thought this would happen... As a 1.5 generation Chinese raised on a steady diet of Chinese food, I thought that going back to China meant culinary paradise for a month. And for the most part I was right...food was amazing, on average better than 90% of what I have here in the states. But towards the end of my trip...strangely enough I found myself missing food from the states. And what's the first thing I realized I was craving? That Prosciutto Lover's sandwich from the Meat Spot. Pastrami and Roast Beef were also very good. But if you're ever in MA and can only have one sandwich, make your way down to Watertown for the Prosciutto Paradise.

*Phenomenal* steak tips and marinated chicken kebab! Everytime the wife's family comes over for dinner I always make sure to pick up meat from here to impress them. I always get pre-marinated steak and chicken tips though you can pretty much get any cut of meat as is or marinated. The angus steak tips are out of this world, with melt in your mouth tenderness, and the tangy marinade is stupendous as well. The subs are also great, made with all Boar's Head meat and fresh veggies and herbs. The service is awesome; the Armenian owner is very helpful and one of the nicest guys around. Very highly deserving of all the excellent reviews.

  • Jon D.

The Meat Spot is an awesome place for sandwiches, and probably deli meat too (I have only purchased the sandwiches). They have a nice selection of sandwiches on their board that cater to meat-eaters and vegetarians, but mostly meat-eaters (go figure). The service is speedy and friendly. Even if the line is to the door, which it may be on a Friday at noon-1pm, you can expect to have your sandwich within 10 minutes or so. And even though the sandwich makers are almost constantly busy, they are always polite and friendly. There is a good selection of snacks and beverages to accompany your sandwich, my personal favorites being Hanks Rootbeer and Cape Cod salt and vinegar chips. I must also add that they carry a good amount of sodas that do not contain High Fructose Corn Syrup, if you're into that sort of thing. I should mention that this is a deli-grocery-type place, there is no seating, and they probably would prefer that you eat your sandwich elsewhere (like by the Charles River or at your office).

I was looking for a late lunch and remembered reading other rave reviews of Meat Spot. I happened to be in the area and located it using my GPS by searching points of interest for "meat". I had a chicken sandwich with focaccia bread, fresh mozzarella, lettuce, sweet basil, and mayo. The sandwich was nothing short of perfection. Everything was fresh. The service was perfect. The price was perfect. Very nice store, but no seating available. You will probably have to park in the back and walk around to the front to get to the shop, but that makes it better. I asked what the store hours were and I was surprised to find that they didn't match the posted hours on Yelp. The person behind the counter told me they are 9 AM to 6 PM on weekdays and 9 AM to 4 PM weekends. They might change the hours, though so it's best to call to make sure. I will definitely be back for more!

I love the meat spot!! I love it so much I could marry it. And the sweet greek man (Italian?) who owns it. He's always got what you're looking for, even if it's not visible from the deli counter. Actually, the one drawback we've decided, is that you can't see all the various cuts of meat. They keep it all stored in the back. But it's all delicious. They also offer a nice assortment of specialty and foreign foods, like oils and vinegars, canned delicacies and fancy pasta. They have a ten dollar credit card limit, just so you know.

  • Zach W.

The Parma is fantastic treat. The fresh mozzarella and basil along with the super thin proscuitto on a baguette is a home run lunch option. Super friendly butchers who whip up the sandwichs, also while your waiting you can scour the shelves for some sauces from all over the place. No seating so the food has got to be to go.

Never realized how bad D'Angelos really was til I finally tried this place. Have loved everything I've ordered, from the tuna to the MS favorite, it's all good. Oh, and the bread is to die for. Highly recommend stopping in!

I visit this place at least once every time I go home with a buddy who's from the area. Probably the best sandwich shop I've ever been to. The owners are great people, who are always ready to chat. Even if you've never been before they will treat you like they've known you for years. I am not sure what there is to complain about regarding the use of Boar's Head deli meats. Last time I checked they were some of the highest quality products you could get. I don't know if the previous reviewer expected them to be hacking up their own animals in the back (they do, just not for making lunch meat!) but I won't say that an institution lacks a "homemade feel" because it uses a very high quality product which happens to be widely available. What does give a homemade feel to the place is their bread. If you get a chance, wait for a new batch to come out of the oven. Absolutely perfect. Delicious meats and cheeses cut to order for your sub, layered with fresh vegetables and homemade dressing, all on a roll that was baked a minute ago; it doesn't get any better than that. They are indeed a great deli and butcher shop as well. The meat selection is fairly diverse and they will fix up any cut you like in-house. They also have a very good selection of fresh salads and beverages, as well as a wide array of imported (mostly middle eastern) products. Meat Spot is a great place; their meats, sandwich fixings, and imported products are delicious and their selection is diverse. But I would say that this is primarily a sandwich shop and that, if this isn't the reason why you come here, you're missing the point.

Ask for a bagel with cream cheese and tomato for brekkie. They aren't on the menu but are delicious! 4 stars since we haven't tried anything else there, but the meats look awesome.

I like the sandwiches, but I'm writing this to counter the idiotic vegan below that gave this place one star. Are people really that dumb? I mean a vegan going to a place called the "Meat Spot" and complaining and advising to keep away from the meat counter? How do people like that not get killed off? It's a strike against the theory of natural selection.

I only recently found the Meat Spot, although it appears to have been blessing Watertown Square forever. Someone recommended it to my wife when she was cooking dinner for a very large crowd and needed a lot of lamb for a Persian stew. Little did I know what we'd been missing. Although I understand the sandwiches are great, I just love the place for being an excellent butcher shop. Don't know exactly how they do it, but the meat products we've gotten there have been much higher quality than you will typically get in a grocery store. And, as others have observed, the staff are wonderfully attentive and friendly. My kids were sold when they were offered samples of what is now know in our house as the "enormous sausage" (I believe the actual name of the item in question is mortadella).

After reading the reviews on Yelp, I decided to hit this place up for lunch. I picked up the Prosciutto and Meat Spot Favorite sandwiches. Though the sandwiches are not what you get at Darwin's, my other favorite sandwich shop, this place is tasty in a different way. All the ingredients are mind-blowingly fresh - especially the mozzarella cheese! The sandwich itself looks so unassuming, but once you bite into it - well, appearances can be deceiving. It also helps that all the people there are friendly and cordial. Though they accept credit cards, they don't take American Express or Discover - so be forewarned.

I try to go to The Meat Spot once a week. I have my coworkers hooked too. I go back and forth between the Prosciutto Lover's and the MS Favorite. They are both phenomenal. Everything is so fresh. I keep meaning to try other sandwiches but I'm stuck on these two. I love getting back to work with a bunch of sandwiches for me and my excited coworkers. Everybody that didn't order walks by drooling. I'm so glad I read the other reviews and decided to try for myself.

I went here to grab lunch with Jim K. and we loved it. Though you can't eat in-house, FYI. I got the special that day which was roast beef & brie on multigrain bread w/onion,lettuce.tomato. I also grabbed grapes and a brownie on the way out.All items were totally fresh and delicous. Would def. go again.

The food is delicious, but the older guy who runs the place doesn't take off his sanitary gloves - no matter whether he's making your sandwich or taking your money.

Awesome food, great portions, and really nice people working there! Plus they will custom make pretty much anything they ask you to make! Soo worth going.

The Meat Spot is a sandwich shop that sells some amazing steak tips. The flavor is... I can't decribe it... savory, salty, sweet... but oh so good. You can buy the raw version of their steak tips marinated in their special spices for your own grilling!

Need meat? These guys know meat. Sandwiches are big and fresh. It's not your father's butcher shop. No sawdust on the floors. You get gourmet options instead of fish cakes. Buy your steaks here for your cookout too and you won't be disappointed.

i'm a vegetarian and i love that they have (at least) two veg-friendly sandwich options - i have dreams about the hummus & feta pita roll-up and the fresh mozzerella sandwich. i drive to watertown from jamaica plain sometimes because i crave them THAT MUCH! also, the service is phenomenal. everyone who works there is super nice.

The name makes this place sound, well, interesting. It is a Boars Head deli and sells excellent sandwiches, some don't even have any meat. The sandwiches are filling and affordable. They also sell some gourmet groceries and is a full service deli.
