I would give them 10 stars if there's an option! On this busy McGrath highway is a hidden gem called Some'Ting Nice. Friendly staff def contribute to a great dining experience. I wanted to try the roti but because they had a huge thanksgiving feast the day before, they ran out. I ended up ordering Fried conch and jerk chicken entrees. Reggae jerk chicken with white rice and roasted egglants - meat literally did fall off the bone! The spices used to marinate the chicken have a woodsy aroma and earthy flavor. TASTY! Fried conch with two sides (aloo and plantain) - slightly overcooked (chewy) but still tasty. Because of my so-so experiences with plantains, I was skeptical in ordering at first (90% of the time ended up mushy and oily). The chef timed it perfectly - no deformed plantains here :) The server brought over more jerk sauce and homemade spicy sauce (mustard-y based). Please do ask for the spicy sauce. Keep in mind that it may not taste spicy immediately but will def kick you in the face later, yes, double slap in your face hot! Be adventurous and try their beverages. I sampled the white colored drink and it tasted like licorice (not my thing). I got the tamerand (sweet and refreshing) and fruit punch (citrus based) drinks. I'll be back!

Another gem in East Somerville. The Goat Roti was delicious, everyone working there is lovely, and the music is a lot of fun. Definitely will back.

Ordered sight unseen for home delivery. Let me tell you... So delicious! I appreciate the chef taking a minute to describe the drunken crab to me. Two people on kinda weird diets, but I will be ordering again. If you're a light eater, the De Antiguan with soup or salad hits the spot. Don't forget the plantains! I've never had sorrel before, but I'm glad I tried it. I like it better than ginger beer. Dessert: Black cake with plum sauce. Divine. I can't wait to dine in and try some of the entrées.

Seriously, the place is amazing. Don't be fooled, it looks a bit sketchy from the outside, and the inside kind of smells like it used to have a lot of smokers in it, but holy crap is the food amazing. My boyfriend is Guyanese and loved it, and I've never tried Caribbean food before, and I was blown away. The goat roti was amazing and they even gave us free soup on the house just because it was one of their specials. I loved this place and I'm going to go back as often as I can :) Also the waiter was very nice, which made the experience that much better

Placed an order for delivery 2 hours ago, no food and nobody is answering the phone. Don't bother. Edit: curry goat arrived after 2.5 hours and a phone call to Foodler. Medium sized portions, the meat could have been a better quality (had to discard a lot of fat) but the flavor was fine. Curry potato side was tasty.

Great food, friendly people and reasonably priced. I am still dreaming of the chicken Roti I ate 3 days ago. Can't wait to go back.
(5)Jervon C.
Great atmosphere and hospitality. The food is delicious and the menu is very creative. From NYC and after living in the Boston area, I have been dying to find a Caribbean eatery. Here it is. Definitely plan on going back to trying out more dishes and their desserts.

Three stars for the friendliness. I enjoyed 2 out of 5 items. Im trinidadian and I grew up on this food and i cook the food. The stew was delicious, the roti skin was really good. Fried dumplings burnt and inedible. Macaroni pie was bland. Plouri hard and old. Curry goat was bland. Portions are also small for the price. Sorry, wish i had more to say t i make this place shine like i hoped it would.

I came here on a Tuesday night with my boyfriend on a Groupon purchase. The place was pretty quiet, there was only 2 other tables when we got there but food made up for it! We got the beef and vegetable patties to start and for the entrees, I got the stew chicken and my boyfriend got the jerk chicken. After the waiter took our order, he came back and said they offered complimentary soups but all they had left was vegetable soup. It was a nice surprise and we said yes and the soup turned out delicious, good chunks of carrots and potatoes as well as some pasta in it. My boyfriend asked for his soup "spicy" and it lived up to it! The patties were just as good, not dry and lots of flavor. We ended up preferring the vegetable pattie over the beef but would still order them both again. They were out of the chicken pattie that night so we'll have to come back for that on our next visit. My chicken stew was very flavorful and the chicken basically fell off the bone. It was a bit tricky trying not to eat the bone pieces but i did ok. The jerk chicken had a lot of seasoning on it and was spicy but still very good. The sides of pumpkin, callaloo and lentils were ok but the curry green beans were the best. The owner was there and came out to say high and offered us a bit of homemade wine, which was on the sweet side. It made me kinda wish i had a full glass for dessert! Overall, the food was excellent and we will definitely be back again. We live in Somerville so had no problem parking on the street but for non-Somervillians, it could be tricky since only the 80 bus goes there and there is no easy way to cross McGrath highway. Cons: kinda noisy-maybe the speakers were too loud? The waiter seemed a bit overwhelmed. He was taking orders, bringing food to the tables and answering phones. Pros: friendy people, stew chicken, jerk chicken, vegetable pattie, curry green beans

Authentic - in my opinion this is the best Jamaican restaurant in Massachusetts. The good is excellent and the service is perfect. Best of all very good juices and lots of room to sit and eat.

Something inside me wants to take a star off, but my tastebuds will not allow that. I just got another order from this place and I am in heaven. I swear that everything they do wrong is overshadowed by how beautiful their rights are. I had the jerked chicken platter and it was absolutely delicious. I also had the Mobay, which was spicy shrimp with invisible plantains (they forgot them). The shrimp were pretty good and quite spicy, but I couldn't shake the feeling of paying $9.99 for shrimp and plantains and getting a styrofoam container with 6 shrimp and nothing else. I order the curry green beans as a side and I got some beautiful frozen green beans that had curry thrown on as an afterthought. Oh well. The jerk chicken was so ridiculously delicious that I had to leave them with five stars again. Side note: I had their curry goat roti last week and it was even more delicious than the heavenly jerk chicken.

Good luck getting delivery within a reasonable time. I am not sure why they have signed up with all the online food ordering companies like eat24, foodler, grubhub when they can clearly not support a delivery service. The first time I ordered delivery, the food arrived 2 hours and 15 mins later than the estimated delivery time (and this was after calls to the restaurant who kept telling me the driver was on the way. I also contacted the online ordering company and they were having a hard time getting the restaurant on the phone). The second time, the food just never arrived and I couldn't get a hold of anyone so after close to 3 hours, I contacted the online ordering company for a refund. I got a confirmation for my refund and then twenty minutes later (when I had already left the house), I get a call from the restaurant delivery guy saying he had my food. What a joke!

very good! mcgrath highway is kind of a strange location but it was very cozy inside. The food was delicious and the service was excellent!
(4)Jenna K.
Sadly I didn't even get to eat the food here. Ordered here at 7:00pm on grubhub. At 8:10 they called me and said they were out of something. They waited an hour and 10 minutes AFTER I ordered to tell me they were out if something. Worst service I have ever seen. Do not order take out from here unless you want to wait for your food and be told they don't have it an hour later.

Exceptionally good food and nice people. We tried the oxtail stew with dumplings and the St. George goat with Bodhi (addictive curried string beans with shaved carrots) and rice and beans. You have to work around the bones in the oxtail, but the meat was tender and the sauce good. The goat was boneless (although not so in the very hearty complimentary soup), a very good green curry. The presentation was more than I expected from a small ethnic restaurant. They now have beer and wine (although early on a Wednesday we snagged the last two Red Stripes). The only minor quibble was that when my husband asked if the black cake was chocolate, he was told yes - it's more of a fruit cake with a rum sauce, good if that's what you're expecting but he wasn't. There is parking in a lot that looks like it's for the business to their left (no signs in the lot indicating that it is parking for the restaurant, but we double checked and it is).

I definitely recommend checking this place out. I went at 6 on a Tuesday, so for a while was the only one in the restaurant. The staff is very polite and helpful - we had a lot of questions about the juices and food options. We went with the shrimp roti and jerk chicken with a side of pumpkin, plus a guava and sorrel juice. We got to try a little sample of all the juices before choosing (also they said they're getting a liquor license soon). Sorrel and mauby were the two we had never heard of, sorrel is a hibiscus drink and mauby is made from tree bark and very licorice-y. We were served complimentary soup before our meals came out, with the choice of vegetable or cow hoof (we got one of each) - very tasty with some good spice to them. I'm not someone who has spent a lot of time dining in the Caribbean, but I definitely thought the meals were very good, I was very pleased with our ordering. For dessert, we tried the cassava cake and the black cake, taking them both to go. They were good, but not your typical cake flavors. Before we left, both the chef and the GM came over to chat with us, and encouraged us to return the next night. They were proud of the cassava cake (or maybe all the desserts?) being vegan, so I guess just be aware you'll be getting a different flavor profile. I'm looking forward to going back (or trying delivery!) to try out some other items on the menu. Don't let the old-school looking sign outside fool you, this place is nice on the inside and has some really good interesting dishes!

Great dinner last night. Started off with some soup on the house - vegetable, spicy and delicious. Then, jerk chicken and blackened shrimp - the shrimp was good, but the chicken was spectacular. Spicy, some sweetness, great with the rice. We also tasted the jerk pork - a darker spice than the chicken, even better. Have to mention - very friendly atmosphere. A family-run restaurant, it was clear that they want to give an exceptional experience. Finished off with the rum cake - a chocolate cupcake-looking thing that comes with a cherry sauce. The flavor was not so chocolatey -it had a deeper, more subtle spice. Unusual and really good. Overall one of the best meals I've had out in a long time. We'll be back.

Im reading these reviews and im wondering if you guys went to the same place I did. Im jamaican and maybe I had high expectations but the food was blah and that was after waiting an hour to get it while dining in. The staff was friendly tho which is why they got the 2 stars. Food wasnt great especially for the arm and leg they were asking for it, and the plate looked like they just threw me their meager scraps.

I just wanted to take a minute to recognize Some 'Ting Nice as a delightful new restaurant in Somerville. Stopped in here a few weeks ago and had a most satisfying dinner. Highlights included our waiter's food recommendations (sorry, don't remember the exact names of the dishes, but you won't be disappointed...); a rotating assortment of fresh homemade tropical fruit juices (of which we were invited to try free samples before ordering); excellent, friendly service, including a visit from the chef/owner (a former Olympian), himself; most importantly, the food was delicious and well-priced relative to the generous portion sizes. I will definitely be coming here again, and I am writing this review, in part, out of a selfish desire to drum-up continued business for this place so that it will stay open (location is kinda off-the-beaten-path) and I can keep eating here!! Thanks, Sum 'Ting Nice, for a great first visit!

Delicious! I've had dinner and brunch several times at Some Ting Nice and have never been disappointed. Their chicken roti is perfectly seasoned and filling (get the mango sauce), and the reggae-jerk chicken is perfectly browned, flavorful and juicy. I highly recommend their rice and peas, fried dumplings and macaroni pie. We've brought friends and they lived it too- you won't be disappointed. I can't wait for them to get a liquor license, but that doesn't take away from the experience.

So I decided to check this spot out for myself after all the wonderful reviews. I can definitely attest that the service and food was awesome. The server ( Richie) that took my order forewarned me that it would take 25 mins for my orders to be ready. He offered me fish soup while I waited, and it was delicious. I ordered curry goat and jerk chicken and they were absolutely tasty. Definitely check this place out.

The boyfriend and I have been eyeing this place for awhile, and finally made our way there last night. We got there close to closing, but the hostess/waitress was extremely accommodating and took her time explaining many of the menu items, even giving us free samples of all their special drinks! First off... complimentary soup with all entrees? Awesome. We got the veggie soup which ended up being amazing, a little kick of spice, a ton of flavor, giant chunks of potatoes... a win. I ordered the jerk chicken which was very flavourful, and comes with two sides. I got the macaroni pie (their version of mac & cheese) which was baked deliciousness, and my favorite part of the whole meal? The curried string beans..absolutely delicious. I have already scoured the internet for similar recipes to try at home. My boyfriend got the mango salmon which in our opinion could have used a bit less sauce as it took away from the fish, but overall was still tasty. Overall was a great find. We will definitely be back very soon (especially since we live around the corner) and have already recommended to all our friends in the neightborhood!

I was in for the first time yesterday and was given a complimentary cow heel soup. I will admit it was strange yo hear but it was amazing to say the least. The roti is what got me through the door but the atmosphere and amazing menu is what keeps you!!! Definitely the best Caribbean food in the area by far.
(5)Betty S.
I didn't think people this nice existed in New England! Everyone is exceptionally kind and accommodating. The first time I stopped in I didn't have any money but wanted to see if there was a chance they could accommodate gluten-intolerant vegans with food allergies to spare, and was elated to see on the menu that all of the sides are already vegan. I don't generally expect restaurant workers to be patient with my inquiries, so I was blown away by their genuine interest in feeding me. And such offerings! If you regularly find yourself in this area, you should be eating here on a regular basis. I'm looking eagerly forward to my next dose of fried plantains and callaloo and bhaji and oh wow, now I'm hungry again.

Excellent food. Wide variety. Sweet people. I especially enjoyed the fish tea. I am very happy that this restaurant is around.

This is the first time I have had Caribbean food. It tasted good to me, but I have no real reference. The guy hostess/server was super friendly and made great recommendations. The doubles appetizer was very good and I enjoyed the chicken roti with curry potatoes. He mentioned to me they had wifi. The Caribbean music playing and the tropical mural on most of the walls was much appreciated given this freezing winter. I am giving them 4 stars because the food was good and just as importantly I am rooting for this new place with such friendly staff.

I tried "Some 'Ting Nice" when they first open. The service, cleanliness and food was something that I wouldn't mind having again. Today I placed an order for take out which was a curried vegetable dish accompanied by two sides which were rice with beans and plantains. The service and environment was still perfect but I was a bit disappointed with the veggies and the quantity of food didn't match the price. Maybe a take-out menu with different prices would be of great use. The server said it perfectly when I mentioned prices in comparison to similar restaurants "we will get it right" and I hope so because there aren't many good food options in Somerville, especially so close to my place. I look forward to seeing improvements!

These people are ANGELS. I called them, placed my delivery order, only to find out that they didn't have a driver tonight. After pulling some strings, they called me back and said they COULD bring us food. AND it's absolutely delicious. We may single handedly keep them in business :). We had; beef patties, mobay shrimp, jerk chicken with aloo and eggplant, someting simple salad, and raga muffin with fried plantains and melongene chaka. ALL delicious. Living in Boston for two years and this is my first favourite restaurant! Between the service and the food, this is definitely our new reliable, go-to place :) :). Did I mention that they took care of me and my dairy allergy?
(5)Dan D.
Loved it! Wait staff were friendly, food was delicious. Location was a bit tough but there was a parking lot next door which was helpful. Highly recommend and I'm definitely going back!
(5)M C.
We started off with the chicken and veggie soup, followed by the jerk pork with plantains and "mac and cheese-like" side and jerk chicken with spinach and plantains. They were DELICIOUS! We even had some of their ginger beer and sorrel drink, which were also DELICIOUS. It was comfort food! We highly recommend this restaurant and will return for more!!!

I tried this place mainly because of all these 4 star reviews - usually yelpers never steer me wrong. Yet on this rare occasion I feel like I've been duped. I was looking forward to my food only find it was.... meh. I ordered the beef patty, Mobay shrimp, and reggae jerk chicken with the sides of aloo and eggplant. All recommendations by yelper C.j.k back in 2013. I must say I am not a bit happy with anything I ordered. I immediately regretted consuming what I had to consume to judge the food The beef patty was a flaky puff pastry encasing flat unflavorful beef - not worth the $2.50 The Mobay shrimp was so spicy and so tasteless I had one and was done. The appetizer came with fried plaintains which were alright. But I could get this anywhere. Waste of $9.99. The so-called star of Carribean food should have been jerk chicken but this was far from being a star. This place claims it cooks food to-order I must state first that the chicken was so dry it lacked any kind if moisture. Maybe I was given chicken that someone ordered and changed their mind? I don't know but it definitely tasted like it was sitting for hours and nuked for my order. Other than it being dry it was not even good. I would have just settled for Boston market - saved myself some money - and got sides that never let me down. Price of this is weird... the receipt said 9.99 plus an extra charge of $3. When I asked why I was charged extra when I did not order any thing extra they only said... 'uhhh the menu says 13.99 but when we press the jerk chicken button it rings up 9.99 so we have to press BIG to make the price. ' WTF. Bullshit. Btw this place has no liquor license. Guy there said 'we are getting it any week now.' To summarize: I am unsatisfied, disappointed, and $30 broker feeling remorse for wasting my calorie intake for this place.

Hello I'm street eating legend King Eat, and today I'll be reviewing Some 'Ting Nice Caribbean Restaurant!! King Eat: a Born Jamerican looking for good West Indian food in Boston. Some 'Ting Nice Caribbean Restaurant? I thought they were alright..... I started with the fried dumpling, and I'm not sure which island makes them this way, but the fried dumpling with the sugary sweet taste was a powdered sugar dusting with strawberry topping away from being a dessert dish, I grew up eating these for breakfast with flour, baking powder, salt and butter. Also for a starter we got the macaroni pie which was pretty good, for you not familiar it's baked Mac n Cheese.... Quick run of the main courses: The curry goat is definitely missing some kind of spice, and same with the curried conch, and I don't necessarily mean hot (which it could use), but some more flavor. The beef patty's had no spice, and were actually pretty bland. The callaloo was prepared Trini style where it's puree'd instead of Jamaican style where I would just cook it in a pan with a little bit of oil, and enjoy it in leaf form, or chopped up, it was pretty good though. Escovitch snapper was probably my favorite part of the meal, although I didn't care for the slight sweetness they threw in there on the taste.... In conclusion: I always make the mistake that Caribbean should be Jamaican which is not the case, so instead of something being wrong, I have to try to remember that it may just be a different island's way of doing it. The food wasn't bad though. For me though: Some Ting Nice is nice, but if I want Some Ting really Nice, I'd go to Flames. PS I hope they get better hours. Sun - Thurs: 12p - 8p is just too short King Eat

Finally, a delicious Caribbean restaurant in my area! When you enter the restaurant the beautiful murals on the walls and overall decor will have you feeling like your back home. Typically, i like to start my meal with warm beef soup. It reminds me of the soup my grandmother made when i was a child. The dumplings and broth bring back memories! The staff are friendly and inviting. the traditional oxtail, curry goat, and jerk chicken paired with rice and peas or plain gains are my top 3 favorites. My next must try dish is their roti. I like to sip mauby or ginger beer with my meals when i eat there. They also do to go orders for pick up. I haven't tried their delivery yet but if i lived closer i would take advantage. They have a wide variety of dishes and authentic favorites! Perfect for a family get together or night out with friends.

An amazing dinner tonight! My boyfriend and I were amazed at how good the food was. The meal started off with a yummy vegetable soup on the house that was spicy and creamy and very satisfying. I wasn't super hungry so I got a salad with chicken thinking it would just be a usual whatever salad. When it arrived the salad itself was displayed with care and thought, and the chicken that came with the salad had a delicious spice rub that went perfectly with the vinaigrette. My boyfriend's jerk chicken with macaroni salad was spicy with a bit of BBQ sweetness. We will definitely be ordering it again (I kept on stealing his food it was so good). The owner came over to chat with us and it's clear how much he cares about the quality of the food (he cooks it himself as fresh as possible) as well as the restaurant, and that both are first priority to him. He said they are due to get a liquor license next week, so it will probably get a lot more crowded! It's not every day you see a restaurant that cares so much about their customers. I highly recommend it!
(5)Alecia G.
The food here is good but the challenge is receiving it! If you can go in person then I would say go for it. If you planning on a delivery then I would say consider eating somewhere else. We ordered through eat24 (which we usually do) one night and after about 90 minutes I called the restaurant with no answer. Contacted eat24 customer support who able to eventually to speak with someone at the restaurant. Apparently, our order was misplaced and the restaurant was now closing. That's right no dinner. Fortunately, eat24 was able to put a rush on an order for a different restaurant. Prior to this experience, we have had the wrong food delivered to us, delivery orders come really late, but this was a new low. Sorry to say, no more Some Ting Nice for us.
(2)Wendy G.
Yum yum yum. I've been to the restaurant and got delivery from there. The service was friendly, and the delivery is speedy. I would go through DoorDash instead of GrubHub/Foodler because it has no minimum. I highly recommend trying the Cassava Pone if you like desserts that aren't too sweet. Their fried plantains are maybe the best in the area!
(5)Jessica N.
The amazing people at Some Ting Nice super kind. I had just gotten to Boston a little late and they held the store open until o was able to get there. The food was good and so was the Passion Punch. But beyond the food, the kindness touched my heart. I was a little wary of being in such a big city, but these folks were amazing! If you go, you must get the Doubles and Passion drink!
(4)Christine K.
My rating is for their delivery service, not the food. The food is fantastic! But delivery...not at all. Tonight it took THREE HOURS for our order to arrive! Put in an order with Grub Hub at 8PM. Deliver estimate was around an hour. A little after 9pm we called to check-in on the order and were told our driver was on the way. At 930 still no food...called again. This time we were told the driver was in Cambridge and he only had one order prior to ours. At 10 we called again and asked if they were being honest about the driver actually being out and having out food. Received more run-around from the restaurant and was told that yes, food was on the way. Finally at 1056PM, after canceling our order and being refunded by GrubHub, our food arrived, three hours after putting in our order. Yikes.
(1)Michael C.
Came in again to give it another try after my first visit. The staff was just as friendly and welcoming as they were on my first visit and I really like the Caribbean murals they have. This restaurant is very unique for Boston. I had the jerk chicken and thought it was perfectly spiced and delicious. The chicken tasted fresh and not processed. The sweet plantains were also perfectly sweet and crispy.
(4)Apoorva B.
Intrigued by their menu, we ordered dinner via GrubHub. Everything from then on was a disaster. The order was placed a bit before 9 pm. The food was delivered at 11.45 pm. Throughout the time between the order and the delivery, I made about 8 calls to the restaurant. The first one was made at 10.00 pm, about an hour after the order was placed. They said that the Grubhub estimate of 30 minutes was wrong and it usually takes about 1 hour. I was told the driver was on its way and should get there soon. They offered to call the driver, check his status and give us an update. They never called. I called again after another 20 minutes. This time they said the driver was 5 minutes away according to the GPS. I called again after another 20 minutes - this time there was no reply. Finally, I got a call from the driver at 11.00 pm saying he was 10 minutes away. He said that he had been delayed by an accident on the highway. I called again after 15 minutes, but there was no reply. Nobody picked up at the restaurant either. Indeed it had already closed. Finally, the driver turned up at 11.45 pm. Said he was delayed by the accident but I knew he was making the story up - the food was piping hot, and there was no way he had left more than 90 minutes ago. We finally had our dinner close to midnight. They did not offer to refund even the delivery charge (which was $10 for a distance of only 2.4 miles). They decided to 'make up' for their poor service by bring us two extra dishes that we had not ordered. The dishes included meats that we do not eat. It was clearly 'extra food' left over from the kitchen. The food itself was also pretty average, and tasted worse after the frustration of the long wait. Overall, the owner (who was the one who delivered the food) was very unprofessional. They should get off GrubHub and stop promising things they cannot deliver.
(1)Eden B.
Very delicious and super cheap meal! I had the jerk chicken and rice and beans as a side. For my other side they were willing to sub in the beef patty which was great too! I lived in Kingston Jamaica for 2 years and this food is one of the most authentic (and tasty) versions I have had in the US. The service was great and everyone was super nice! The owner is a former Olympian and has his medals and prizes on display, very cool!
(5)Gauravi P.
We recently came back from a trip to Jamaica and have been craving jerk chicken since. We spotted this Carribean style restaurant while driving home one day and had been meaning to try it out. Today we visited for lunch and walked out with happy bellies and big smiles on our faces. The food was fantastic. My husband and I each ordered the jerk chicken which came with two sides. My sides were the calaloo and the roasted eggplant. My husband's sides were the fried dumplings and aloo. The jerk chicken was moist and spicy. Fair warning if you don't like spicy food, this isn't the dish for you. The fried dumplings were to die for. There's definitely an Indian influence in the sides dishes we ordered. The service was good. Our server was very friendly and our food came out in a timely manner. We were worried that we would be waiting quite a bit due to other reviewers on Yelp. But, we had nothing to complain about and plan to visit this restaurant many more times!!

On McGrath Highway in Somerville, there is a parking lot on the side of the restaurant, a short walk from Broadway in East Somerville. A delicious variety of Caribbean fare. From Jamaican jerk chicken to the Tobago special, Some 'Ting Nice serves dishes with deep flavors. Complimentary soup (rotates daily) is served before the meal with entrees. The soup of the day was hearty with vegetables, chicken (if you wish), and dumplings in a pepper-based broth. The jerk chicken is of course a must with an incredibly flavorful portion of spiced, sweet, and saucy chicken (on the bone). The spice brings a moderate level of heat. St George's goat is cubed off the bone and served as a green curry stew. The meat is tender and the sauce provides plenty of aromatic flavor. Other recommended entrees include roti (with the traditional bread, similar to naan and protein of choice) and the Tobago special (chicken, rice, and vegetables in a coconut cream sauce). Some 'Ting Nice dishes usually come with two sides and an excellent way to eat vegetables. Aloo (curried chick peas and potatoes) blends well with a similar sauce to St George's goat. Bhaji (creamy) and callaloo (stewed with okra and pumpkin) are similar to spinach. Bodhi (curried string beans) and pumpkin (served mashed with garlic and spices) are also stand outs. The macaroni pie is a must - cheesy and baked as a casserole.

My surprise dinner was #Some'ting Nice for sure! A delectable treat of great Caribbean cuisine I ate everything on my plate and my guests plate too! I am happy to report that our food came right away and we ate 3 dinners in under 45 minutes... Ragga muffin with rice/beans and pumpkin mash Jerk chicken with macaroni pie and plantains Beef patty on coco bread with white cheese Also, we had fried dumplings of course and can't leave without getting a shrimp roti to go No wait Good greeter/waiter Generous portion size Clean dining area and rest room Therefore, I nominate this food as a top of the line Caribbean cuisine...way better than the around the way spots in the Bean this food is made with passion, not mass produced

This restaurant was on last Sundays Phantom Gourmet as a "hidden gem" and yes they were right. First time visiting and the place was very clean, family oriented and plenty of seating is available. I ordered a dinner plate of Curry Goat with Cassava and Plantains. A complimentary soup came with my meal so I chose Chicken Soup. The soup was hearty and filled with small dumplings, carrot and potato - it reminded me of my grandparents who always included the bones for flavoring. The main course was very good, plenty of tender goat with thick slices of plantain and cassava. Definitely putting this place on my list.

Ok from the day I knew what this place was I was DYING to go... Most of my friends wont try foods they dont know (the ladies at work I mean) I would beg & beg & no go... So one night I told the BF I was stopping to bring it home (as he loves Stew Chicken & Curry and such)... He told me great, you know what I eat so just get some stuff.. Well $80 and more than "SOME" stuff later - order was placed and I was counting down the minutes. I placed the order on Foodler which made it super easy to write comments. Now I have to back up by saying In my past I dated a Trini for several years & when introduced to the food FELL IN LOVE... so it has been quiet some time since I had some good West Indian Food. Double happen to be my absolute favorite thing on earth so I ordered 4 - thinking in case anyone else wanted some I had 2... Ordered Jerk Chicken, Stew Chicken, Snapper, Got all types of Sides, Callaloo, Macaroni Pie, White Rice & Peas & Rice, Pelau, Curry Shrimp (originally wanted Buss Up) , Literally got a little bit of EVERYTHING... As soon as I placed the order they called me to tell me they had no Buss Up (which is the Roti skin all crushed up so you can just pull apart pieces, they told me they had no Roti - sad but not that bad) just got the Curry Dinner Instead. So we hung up. She then calls me back again to tell me she only has enough to make 2 Doubles - Thats fine at least I get 1 At that point I started reading all the reviews & noticed that they run out of things OFTEN - But I get it you make it fresh in the morning & when you run out you dont make more. Makes sense when things are fresh. Got there waited a few minutes & everything was done! Flew home as my car smells were starting to make me crazy & I needed to eat. Get in the house & the containers were literally all starting to disintegrate. Had I had to make a few stops or not going right home (and Im about 6 mins from there) It would have all been in the plastic bag all mushed up. Some'ting nice you need to get some better take out containers, because it was scary - they were like thick paper and literally when it picked it up the whole bottom fell out. So we plated everything took a bunch of pics & DUG IN... it was all soooooo good. Callaloo wasnt as good as Ive had in the past but everything else was great. The DOUBLES, OMG THE DOUBLES LOVE LOVE and the Tamarind Sauce was just as I remembered. The jerk was too spicy to even eat. It burned my mouth off. The curry was SOOO Good. Mom liked her fish just next time she said she would rather something DE-boned! Will def be going back as soon as Im ready to eat! Just hope to not be out of everything that day!

At this rate I'm never going to get to try Some 'Ting Nice's Bhaji side $3 (fried bhaji leaves or spinach). They were out of that and beef on the evening of our visit. Also no soup, cause of the season. Their dining room was the most full I've ever seen it. Service was initially provided by the sole gal at the hostess station, then later a fellow provided some assist. As another table had been seated just before us, and two other parties arrived shortly after, service was a tad slow and we couldn't get our order in for nearly 20 min. Then it was another near 20 min before our meals began arriving. Tobago Special $12.99 chicken pelau, rice, peas, chicken, veggies in coconut cream served with steam veggies and plantains Shrimp Roti $12.99 with aloo (curry chickepeas and potatoes), mango kuchela (on the side), no Pepper, curry sauce on the side Macaroni Pie $4 Bakes Caribbean mac & cheese Pumpkin $3 fried and mashed with garlic & spices It all arrived as a parade, one or two items at a time. The chicken dish was the larger of the two entrees, with the shrimp numbering 5 tail on crustaceans. The tender chicken was camouflaged within the pile of brown rice and beans. The veggies were crisp tender, the plantains sweet treats though were but four mouthfuls. I entertained myself making mini bundled mouthfuls of the flaky roti bread with the shrimp and vegetables. The mac & cheese cheesy and the pumpkin sweet/savory. A satisfying meal. Tip: Don't come hungry or in a rush to get somewhere else after your meal. And don't have your heart set on any particular item, but rather be ready to be flexible.

I was greeted by everyone in the restaurant I have to say my order came pretty quickly. The restaurant wasn't busy and it was very clean and relaxing. I wished they played some soft music to add to the ambience though. My wings were tasty, both wings and sauce actually. I would definitely recommend!

I remembered this place from a yelp elite event where they were one of the vendors handing out samples and it was good enough that I remembered to come back to the actual restaurant. Wasn't as good as I remembered, but it was decent. Tried the jerk chicken, Mac pie, and an eggplant side. The chicken was spicy but too sweet. And the dark meat was good but the white meat was much too dry. The eggplant side I think they messed up on and gave me something else cause it was def not eggplant. The Mac pie (macaroni and cheese but done like lasagna and cut up in blocks) was the best of my offering. It came out piping hot and had nice spices going through it. The bf ordered the raga muffin (oxtail stew) which was actually really good, tender and the sauce was nice with the Caribbean rice and beans. I'd come back to try more stuff and maybe during dinner service to enjoy the live music

The waitress was very nice she went beyond stop my husband go to store to get juice for my son but instead she offered the Orange juice to my son. Service was excellent & I came here twice w/o disappointment the food is very good & tasty!

Went here Saturday night on the recommendation of a friend and bolstered by glowing Yelp reviews. It was pretty active, though had many open tables, and was surprisingly roomy inside. Very odd decor, kinda business in the front, party in the back. For some reason we still had to wait while they organized a table for 3 for us, which took two different greeter/servers. Odd. The menu is really interesting and comical with headings like "Eat Yo Greens" and "Wats Te Drink," and required some Googling (I had no idea what "pommecythere" was, apparently, it's a Caribbean fruit, nor did I know that "melongene" was eggplant) to suss out, but we settled on the fried cod fritters and "Doubles" (described as two fried flat breads with chick peas) to start, and the fruit punch (amazing, I don't know what's in it, but it's not the icky red mess you get in a school cafeteria, it was fab!) and Sorrel (hibiscus) juice (sweeter and more "from-concentrate"-tasting than I've had elsewhere, boo). The fritters were great, not too spicy, though the sweet tamarind (why is there cinnamon in this sauce?! Go away cinnamon, no one wants you here!) sauce that accompanied it was not my favorite. The chickpea filling for the doubles was again, cinnamon/nutmeg-spiced and sweetish (blech), and the flat breads were soggy, I couldn't eat them. Left those on the plate where they belonged. My friend enjoyed them though. I got the white-meat roti, and they only had the "Buss-up-shot" available, which the waitress explained meant the roti/chapati/paratha would come shredded on the side, and the chicken would come cooked with potatoes/chickpeas. I requested the "tamarind kuchela" because I didn't know, until after ordering, that that was indeed the sweet apple-pie-like sauce they served with the fritters. Blech. But the roti was absolutely yummy. I was so full but couldn't stop eating it. Really well-seasoned and well-cooked. My friend ordered the chicken curry with beans & rice & plantains (I tried her plantains, yum!) and her curry looked identical to my roti filling. She cleaned her plate. Like bone-clean. Our other friend got the salmon with mango salsa, which looked beautiful, but she only ate half, complaining that it was cold. To be fair our food took FOREVER to come out. We were in the restaurant for 2.5 hours. Mostly waiting. But I don't know why she didn't just ask them to heat it up. But oh well! Our service was bizarre. We waited an extremely long time for our appetizers, and had to ask repeatedly for them, as they seemed forgotten, after 35 minutes. We had to ask for silverware, I had to ask for plates to eat our appetizers off of, and the server only brought 2 out of 3 of us plates, so one friend ate the appetizer directly off of the shared plate. After the apps arrived, there was another very, very long wait for our entrees (which arrived at different times). I could hear the kitchen bell ringing beside us, and it took the server a long time to attend to it, get the plates, and bring them to our table. But in spite of the massive wait, and the fact that our single appetizer plate with two fritters on it was the sole food on our table for 45 minutes while we waited, the server repeatedly asked, "are you done with this?" And tried to remove the plate. Why would that be necessary? There were no entrees ready, there was plenty of room on the table, and there was nothing else to eat! What was she going to do with our appetizer, anyway? She also asked my friend if she minded if she re-used her glass to serve her second glass of punch, and when I asked for two to-go containers (which she never offered though I had 3/4 of a plate of curried chicken, a pile of shredded roti, 2 codfish fritters and 2 dishes of sauce sitting in front of me for 10 minutes after we'd finished eating) she only brought one, and when she returned to the table, inquired "will that fit or will you need a 2nd one?" I told her I'd like a second one. I don't know if they're hard-up for supplies or something, but don't make that my problem, as your customer. Have someone run out to Target and buy you some dishware and to-go containers so you can get through the night! And the restaurant wasn't even close to full. They need to get their act together. I enjoyed most of the food I tried, and would love to try some other dishes, but I may have to wait till they get the machine a little more oiled.

When everyplace else in the 'Ville has a 2-4 hour wait but you still want delicious food, Some 'Ting Nice is a sure bet. Do: -Get the ginger soda. I tried all the bevvies, trust me, that's the best. House made, right amount of sweet and sharp, the other drinks are a bit cloying for my taste. -Eat the crap out of the delicious complementary soup that comes with all the meals. And no, that's not potato in the soup - it's cassava! The stuff that boba is made from! -Get the conch (I tried all of my friends' dishes and that was my fave) -Try the jerk salmon: also delicious, but very spicy! -Get the roti: also delicious, also quite filling -Get full before your meal has concluded - it will be hard not to -Go in with the expectation that not everything will come out simultaneously. Perhaps that's why people's take-out reviews are so poor - the timing is perhaps not their forte. Knowing, though, that if you go to their restaurant and they'll bring out the food when it's hot, and it's fine if some people at your party start eating before others (especially if you want to do some taste-sharing) everything is goin to be okay mon. Callaloo held up my dish coming out, but of all the sides I tried, damn that mac & cheese pie was delicious. Next time I think I'll do that and the plantains - who wants to come with me?

Some 'Ting Nice is one of those places that just has really delicious authentic food at reasonable prices and will fill you up! Plan on ordering as much variety as you can and sharing and taking your time to enjoy each part of your meal as it comes out (which may not be in any particular order). My wife and I treated a couple friends to dinner here so we got to share and try several main dishes and a bunch of sides. Some were amazingly tasty while everything was at least very good. There are so many different flavors that you're bound to love something. I wanted to order everything on the menu it sounded so good! The jerk chicken was awesome. The free bowl of goat stew was soooo delicious and a great way to start the meal. It's a very casual place. If you need something just holler. There was one server taking just our orders and one other table as well as handling take out orders coming in. He was very kind and polite, especially with our many questions, but a little scattered. Chef Michael came out several times and was wonderful. For the four of us, each having a drink, getting totally stuffed on really delicious food, including gratuity, the bill was only $72. To me, that's a deal! If you want a laid-back experience at a quirky but authentic Somerville establishment bring some of your friends to Some 'Ting Nice.

DELICIOUS!! Completely authentic Jamaican cuisine! - The real deal and the kindest folks! I started with a traditional dish- jerk chicken- beans and rice with plantains- and it was perfect! The owner was super kind and friendly and quick to say hello. He smiled when he saw that I cleaned my plate. I will return soon! Thanks Some Ting Nice.

DELISH! My fiance and I saw a van with SOME TING NICE written on the side traveling on rt 93 in the fall and immediately thought it was a Chinese restaurant until we looked it up. Then we saw a groupon for it and said we have to try it. So on a whim on a Thursday evening I left work in Plymouth just before 7 and we got to Some Ting Nice just before 8. I had no idea they closed at 8. Franzy greeted us and made us feel welcome despite our late arrival. We took his suggestions and ordered the curry chicken, ox tail and chicken stew. I told him to pick us some sides to go with those meals and he did a great job. (Yes, just the two of us ordered 3 meals planning to take one home but that didn't happen! ) All the meat was fall off the bone moist and tender with lots of flavor. For sides we had rice and beans, plantains, pumpkin, dumplings, mac and cheese. They were all fantastic especially the pumpkin and dumplings! They let us sample their homemade drinks which were tasty but on the sweet side. One of the cooks came out and said hello and told us a little history of the restaurant which is only 1.5 years old. They were so welcoming and never made us feel rushed. Before we left we found out they have Caribbean bands and steal drums on some Friday and Saturday nights. Definitely going to go back and introduce some friends to some amazing authentic food!!

Really disappointed with the food. Ordered goat roti.. It did not taste good at all. Not getting food from here again.

Take you taste buds to a tropical place that will satisfy the craving you didn't even know you had. I have been driving past this place for the last few weeks and I'm finally glad it's open for business. We ordered the mango salmon and the king fish which were both delicious & bursting with flavor. The mango salmon was marinated in a sweet sauce and came with rice and beans. The king fish was marinated in a flavorful sauce which came with rice, beans and roasted veggies. This dish was delicious. Simply delicious. We also ordered the spicy soup (vegetarian). This was super spicy, and tasted amazing mixed into the rice and beans. It has potatoes and pumpkin in it. They deliver and cater which is crucial for any business nowadays. Their location is ideal because there are several business and offices in the surrounding area. The inside is super trendy and there are catchy names for the dishes. I'm all about supporting local and new businesses so I will defiantly be returning and suggesting them to catering for our next office meeting so we can all enjoy Some'ting Nice.

Delicious curry dish. Jerk chicken (asked for less spice, which turned out to be a great decision) was great. The juices are super, and are hard to find flavors. The rum cake was something! Service is relaxed and not rushed, in a good way, unless of course you are in a rush. Servers are very helpful and suggested great items for us.

four stars for somerville! some highlights -- complimentary soup with the dining in meal (goat soup, yum). complimentary oxtail (they said it'd take too long to make a new order so gave us what they already had) -- excellent and tender. great baked mac and cheese, amazing green beans (love the sauce!), great flavor and complexity on the jerk chicken, but yes, a little dry (i didn't mind. but yes, it could have been nuked) -- unremarkable aloo, a pile of roti (it's okay. it did the job), okay beef. good crab appetizer. and hooray for leftovers! they just got a liquor license and served my friend some merlot. yes, the place was empty yesterday, but they deserve some love. their location isn't ideal, being right on the highway, and maybe no one knows about it yet in terms of dining in -- but they fill a niche that somerville just doesn't have so much. go to dorchester or mattapan and yes, you'll find fabulous jamaican food. but in my hood, in the 'ville, this is close, and will satisfy.
(4)Stephanie C.
Came here on someone's recommendation and we are definitely glad that we tried it! The jerk chicken was delicious, as was the pumpkin and the baked mac & cheese. Their version of the sweet & sour chicken, fried rice and lo mein was awesome - no leftovers to bring home! The staff was great - super friendly and helpful when helping with the menu. We will definitely come back the next time that we're in town!

I have visited this restaurant twice the last time being a little over a month ago. I just signed up for yelp which is why I'm just leaving this review. Some 'Ting nice is some of my favorite food in Boston. It is one of the only places to get authentic Carbibean food done right. The restaurant is a bit tacky as it should be and the service isn't the best but you can tell they are really trying and some day will be good at what they. All of these things add to the environment and make me love it even more. I've had the jerk chicken, king fish, conch fritters and sampled some of the oxtail. Everything was amazing and I will be sure to come to this restaurant every chance I get. They deserve more business so if you have any curiosity about this place or feel like trying something new and delicious, go!

This place is a hidden jewel. There are not that many real Jamaican spots in the burbs. No more boston trips just here.Great food, great service. My new home.

So we gave this place another chance because it has potential and we're a huge fan of Caribbean food. I called ahead to order and the food was ready in a timely manner. Pros Service was great, they always have a professional and friendly staff The oxtail was delicious. The meat was tender and was flavorful The rice and peas were good (no burnt taste this time around) The chicken, channa & aloo and pumpkin were delicious! The passion fruit juice is always good! Cons The Paratha Roti (bussup shot) wasn't the best they've made. They put the pumpkin in with the oxtail plate instead of the roti and forgot to add the plantain to my order (but that's minor but worth mentioning for feedback) Overall, they have enough items on their menu that we enjoyed to return again but we may pass on the Roti (buss up shot)

I understand that on a Friday night orders can stack up, so I was unsurprised to receive an estimate of 50 minutes before our food would be ready for pickup. However when I arrived at the restaurant, only a scant quarter of the tables in the place were actually seating customers. I only became a little worried after I overheard the waiter tell another group who was sitting down "Sorry, we confused your order with another, it will be about a half hour." After taking the food home I found they gave us the wrong side dishes. Instead of chana they gave us rice and peas, and instead of green beans they gave us Bhaji. I double checked Grub Hub to make sure I had placed the order correctly. The chicken was good. I had lived in a Caribbean neighborhood in Brooklyn for two years before moving to Somerville, and though the meat was a bit chewy the jerk seasoning hit that smoky, spicy and tangy spot I was after. The sides were another story: the rice and peas had too much rice, the Provisions (I believe that's what it was; it was some sort of mashed starch the consistency of pease porridge) tasted like off-the-shelf curry powder, and portions of Bammy, Bhaji and friend plantains were stingy for a $13 dollar platter.
(2)Akil W.
'Dis place is great! The shrimp roti and ox tail are some of my favorites. Try the doubles- they are bursting with flavor! Reminds me of the street vendors in Trinidad. Another dish to stimulate your taste buds- the jerk chicken! It is great to finally have a Caribbean restaurant in Somerville!
(5)Mrs R.
Getting food from here the 1st time was so great that I went back again in the same week. What a difference! (Both times were take-out orders.) Here is where they lost stars: 1) I ordered the Veggie Roti again. The 1st time I ordered it there were 3 distinct flavors between the aloo, roti "bread", and cabbage with carrots. This time the only distinction was the textures. Like Caribbean Taste Buds A. said "They need to be consistent with the taste of their food!!!!" 2) I also ordered a side of Bammy which they neglected to include in the bag with the veggie roti. It was 2 small pieces of cassava bread that tasted like fried, bland cornbread. Really? That's what I paid $4 for? Even my non-picky toddler didn't finish eating the 1.5 pieces left over from my 2 bites. 3) I waited almost 5 minutes before some youngster finally appeared to take my order. Two people ordered after me. They both left with their food and I was still waiting. Since the total wait time was over 20 minutes and the order did not come in its entirety the 1st time, a suggested compensation would have been the correct action to take. Maybe add another piece of bammy or offer a cup of soup but nothing was done. Moral of story...make the trek to Flames Restaurant in Mattapan (especially if you have a car as they have a small parking area right in front of the restaurant). Suggestion to restaurant: 1) Either have the same cook make all the food or have the different cooks follow the same recipe.
(2)Truth R.
This place is delicious. The food so good. The starter soup is simple and yummy. Jerk salmon isn't grilled, but the jerk sauce is so spicy sweet and yummy. I loved it. The only thing I didn't like was the beverage. Caribbean drinks all taste like cough syrup. That's just the way it is. I will def return fir another delicious lunch.
(5)michael p.
I ordered Jerk Chicken, Rice & Beans and Macaroni Pie for delivery. It came in around 35 minutes, was a good portion, and was delicious. If that sounds interesting to you, I recommend this.
(4)Nick M.
Recently got take out from this place and was very impressed. The food was delicious- we had the curried goat, jerk pork, and something else that I can't remember. Everything was delicious, and the service was great too. The gentleman I spoke with gave me a thoughtful description of the different side dishes to accompany my order. While I waited, he brought me a complimentary cup of soup and a delicious juice beverage. The dining room is also nicely decorated and would be a nice place to dine- I look forward to coming back and trying more!
(5)Monique C.
Yes! A native New Yorker, used to a plethora of options, I have been craving some REAL authentic Caribbean food. This place did not disappoint. I ordered chicken roti and jerk chicken. I am very pleased with both!!! I am glad a Caribbean spot opened in the area. I will be ordering again!
(5)Jamaican B.
I stopped in and had the Snapper. It was so good. Very tasty like it came right from the Caribbean sea. Also had a Doubles, the Macaroni Pie and the Calaloo. They were all very good. I'll be back for more because it all tasted very nice. Glad this opened up just around the corner from me.
(5)Jen H.
Tasty, ya mon. Mix of various Caribbean foods prepared with love. I travel to Jamaica for work a decent amount and I'm a big fan of Caribbean foods. Some Ting Nice allowed me to enjoy some of my favorites and introduce me to new dishes. The jerk chicken and pork was prepared a bit different from what I'm used to from my Jamaican visits but it was tasty tasty tasty! The jerk chicken was spicy with a hint of sweet, similar to a BBQ sauce. The jerk pork was SPICY. Looked like a good amount of pepper sauce on it! No liquor license currently but they said they're working on getting a wine and beer permit. Definitely going back.
(4)Sammy B.
Came here for lunch and the food was excellent! I got the Jamaican jerk chicken platter with aloo and fried plantains--all three elements were delicious and sizable. The meal came with complimentary soup, which was AMAZING. It had so many unique and interesting flavors. The owner even gave me a small sample container of the jerk sauce because I liked it so much! Will definitely be coming back ASAP.
(5)Corey M.
The first time I ordered the Jerk chicken it was great. The flavor was authentic, tender chicken, all around good meal. I just ordered the same again, 1 week later, and the flavor was not as good, and the chicken was dry as if had been sitting under a heat lamp for hours. I will certainly try again as I love me some jerk chicken, hopefully the consistency will come together. 4 stars right now as I'm hoping It was a fluke bad batch (or cook.) check bad for updates...
(4)Francine W.
So good! I'm so happy to have this new cuisine in the neighborhood. Everyone is so friendly there; it's bigger than it looks from the outside and cute and clean inside. I had the Ox tail and it was great; the jerk chicken was so delicious - sweet and savory at the same time. They gave us some juice samples- there were some really interesting juices! I want to go back to try the goat curry and jerk pork!
