I live within walking distance of Maya Sol so can't comment on delivery problems that others have, but the food is pretty good. Not the best, but good enough to go back, and prices are low. It was a nice place when it first opened, but it's gotten seriously dirty and grungy inside, and tables stay dirty for a long time. I really recommend NOT eating inside and getting your food to go instead.

Not a large menu. Plato Maya ($15.49) is a traditional presentation of thin sirloin steak, chicken, bacon, egg, plantain, fried cassava and burned green onion. Included on the side is a plate of rice and simple salad. Also available are burritos, tacos, quesadillas, papusas, soups and salad. A simple, polite meal. Soda only. Open late. Nice.

Came here on the East Broadway Foodie Crawl and it was one of the more disappointing Mexican places we went to. I had a quesadilla with green beans in it and there was no flavor in it. I looked to the table to add something to it and what do I see? Ranch. Random. I also had the fried squash which I've never had before and was not a fan of. Weird texture. No flavor again!

I can't figure out whether I'm in a Mexican restaurant or maybe it's Chinese. I can't believe the place passed any food inspector. It's filthy. All the tables need to be wiped off. The food so generic it's unrecognizable. Too bad, I hoped that they were going to be cool. Even worse, their attitude is holier than thou.

I ordered again, because I am a dummy and I contradicted myself after saying I wasn't gonna order from them ever again. I ordered a chicken quesadilla, got it delivered late as always, then IT DIDN'T HAVE CHICKEN IN IT!!! I call back to tell them that my quesadilla was missing the chicken, a girl said "....and you're just noticing that now?", I replied "YES BECAUSE I JUST EFFIN GOT THE FOOD!!!!", then the girl says "ok we'll make you a new one and send it with another driver, then show and give the driver the old plate so that he can confirm." Wtf, why would I lie about it not having chicken? I'm too hungry to be wasting my time calling your dumb a$$es to be lying about there not being chicken in my quesadilla, really broad?? They're customer service skills absolutely suck, horrible!!! Didn't even apologize for the mistake they made, asking me to show the old plate because they think I'm probably lying. Best believe I showed the plate to the driver with the opened quesadillas so that he can see and show it to the girl who thought I was lying about there being no chicken in my quesadilla. I am so done with them!!! They're mostly rude Salvadorians who lack customer service skills and don't know how to speak to their customers. They suck. ZERO STARS if possible!!!! What a shame!!!

I tried to order delivery from them. I don't know about their food because I haven't eaten yet, as I am currently warming up my meal which took over 1 hour and 40 minutes to arrive . It is completely unacceptable for delivery to take this long. I had decided to try their banana milkshake because I love banana, and so it was of course completely melted and not edible. Then when I tried to call to at least get my money back on that, they screened my call (I had called earlier to find my food so they had my number) and didn't answer. Also their mailbox was full, probably of other complaints. I will not order from them again.

I was very disappointed tonight by a delivery order with a burrito which was completely bland. No salsa, no jalopenos, no cilantro. Nothing. Just beans and rice and cheese food product of some type. The mango 'milk shake' was worse. Big chucks of ice were in it and it tasted bad. I threw them both away half eaten and now I feel sick at my stomach. On the plus side they agreed to refund my money. If they actually do that I will change this to two stars just to recognize that they did one thing right.

I like this place! It's not flashy but the food is good. Also very reasonable prices. My wife and I eat here a couple times a month and find it to be a good "cheap eat". We often chat with the staff and they are friendly! If you're looking for fine dining, this is not your place. But if you want good food at a good price, come here!

Food was very filling and tasty. The Plato Maya was huge with chicken, steak, thick cut bacon/pork, egg, fried plantain, fried cassava and another plate with a salad, beans, and rice. The two kids had two chicken tacos each and shared a huge plate of fried plantains and a bowl of beans. They loved their food. They split a piece of tres leches cake they also gave thumbs up. Overall pretty good. The quality of food was pretty good and it was out very quickly. The flavors of my food, though good, didn't really scream of more than a good southern restaurant. That's the criticism I would give but it may be the dishes I selected. TVs in place all in Spanish-- just FYI; not fancy but clean and more seating than many places nearby.

I'm sure similar to most Yelpers first review, it takes EXCEPTIONALLY bad service to start leaving reviews! I ordered with my colleagues on Friday at around noon. After about 2 hours since the order was placed through their website, the food arrived and my order was the only one missing (I should buy a lottery ticket today with my luck)! I should also mention that my order was in no way complicated (Small Chicken burrito - no beans). After everyone's generous gesture to offer me some of their orders, a colleague called the place back and informed them of their error. It seemed as if they were trying to convince us that WE were mistaken and miscounted - Quite the contrary. After two separate phone conversations, they admitted fault and said they would deliver my burrito along with a free soda to make amends. About an hour later, my order arrived...in a brown paper bag. A BROWN PAPER BAG! While everyone else got their order in a neat plastic container so that their chips, salsa, and burrito/tacos/etc. were neatly presented, my burrito was tossed in a bag along with my chips. Even McDonald's presented their order with more respect! As opposed to having fries organized in a 'fypod' my chips were just scattered EVERYWHERE. This is UNACCEPTABLE! It's bad enough that I had to wait 3, neigh 4 hours to eat my food now (because I am about to enter a company meeting and won't be able to eat until afterwards) but the blatant disrespect towards their customer after making a mistake themselves is just...no. Oh, and the soda they gave me was a CAN of Grape Fanta! Not even a bottle, nor a common soda like Coke. What, was Grape Fanta the lowest-selling item at the restaurant and you thought this would be an opportune moment to balance out the lack of demand?! Yes, I am reviewing this without having eaten the burrito yet. But this could be the BEST burrito I have ever had and I still won't be able to get over the TERRIBLE service and even WORSE compensation package. No amount of diabetic water in the world can make up for this experience.

Placed an order 2 hours ago for delivery, got the wrong order. Called the restaurant, no answer, went straight to a full voicemail box; called back, explained my issue and she asked me to hold on while she called the driver, then she instantly hung up on me. I called back and a different woman answered who didn't speak english, I tried to explain the problem and she kept thinking I was trying to place an order instead of get the right one delivered, then she up and says "driver just left, will be there in a few minutes" and hung up. 20 minutes later, no one showed up and I called back - this time, a man answered who, after saying "I checked your order!!" kept trying to convince me that since half of what I got was right that I did, indeed, get my order; I told him I wanted the right order, then he just starts talking to someone in the background and says "we have driver leaving in 30 minutes and will bring you a quesadilla" - which, I explained, wasn't what was missing from the order and he finally said "driver will be there in 30 minutes with your food" and hung up the phone. It's been 42 minutes....... I will never ever order from here again. Oh, and I have someone's chicken and adobada burritos sitting on my coffee table - it'll just be quicker if you have me deliver them.

Worst place ever I should take over this restaurant and show what real Mexican food is the horchata was not horchata it tasted like water, sugar and cinnamon combined. The only good thing was the meat other than the rice, beans and salsa was disgusting. Never will I ever come back to this place.

I really liked this place, came here at least once a week over the summer. The food is really cheap, but really satisfying. I got the chicken soup and was expecting like a small cup/bowl, but i got this huge bowl with a ton of chicken in it. The burrito is also really good, ingredients are fresh. Staff is also really friendly.

Super friendly, and great food! You can just make a plate out of all the hot foods there, and they're happy to put whatever you want on it. I've only dined in, but they're always really friendly, and it's cheap food! The platas have a HUGE amount of food....delish!

Delivery took over an hour and a half and was definitely not worth the wait. I got the AdoBADa Pork Burrito which was so mushy you couldn't distinguish the ingredients and so salty that I could only stomach eating half of it, if it did have the hot sauce I asked for in it, it definitely would be the mildest hot sauce ever. The melon drink wasn't bad, some kind of honeydew flavored concoction. It was disappointing because I had wrongly assumed it would be a watermelon aqua fresca and also because it was placed sideways on top of my food in a plastic cup and naturally spilled everywhere and was slightly warm when it arrived. The strangest item was the chicken tamale. It was very greasy, did not come wrapped and was about three times the size of any tamale I've ever seen. Tamales are usually steamed, so I am not sure where all the grease came from, but it was gross. Also, it was filled with random vegetables - various peppers and squash - and only had minuscule pieces of chicken. Overall a very poor experience, bad delivery, bad food, bad customer service.

I enjoyed eating at this place. The quesadilla, nachos, and burritos are really good and well done. Those are my favorite to get there. They add a lot and they turn out incredible. The place is decorated neatly and it's very appealing. One issue I had was when I ordered a mango smoothie and they took about 15 minutes to make, when the restaurant was only with very few customers. It wasn't necessary to wait that long when there were no more customers needed to be attended. Overall everything was delicious and I would go back but I'd rather not get another smoothie if it takes that long. They have a variety of foods you can pick from and they make sure to put what you want and how much. The pricing there is also very decent and won't disappoint. Totally worth it.

When I ordered online and realized the delivery would take over an hour and a half a few streets away I called to pick up. I had a hard time explaining that I had already placed my order, but went to pick up anyway. I stood at the counter for about 10 minutes while the women at the register was on the phone and the other 3 employees were just standing behind her staring at me. Once off the phone I wasn't acknowledged until I asked twice if she could help me. I don't think one word came out of her mouth the entire transaction, although I am bilingual. Very inexpensive food, and the restaurant itself was colorful and looked like would be a good place for a quick dine in. Although, I paid for what I got, very plain, no salsa with the chips, and very dry quesadilla. Perhaps dining in I may have gotten all the extras I needed?

The food came in an hour and 45 minutes!!! It came cold, and with attitude from the delivery man. Its the second time I've ordered from here. I gave them a second chance because the first time I ordered, it was rush hour. But after ordering at 1 pm on a Saturday I'm convinced that they are awful at it. Don't order from here if you want your food to arrive the same day as you ordered it

What a strange place. You order a burrito here, and in no way take part in choosing what goes inside. Twenty minutes to a half hour later (we were the only ones in there, so not sure why it takes so long), we received our burritos. Basically, it's a chicken and rice dinner wrapped in a burrito wrap, then seared on the flat top grill. It was tasty but not what I expected for a burrito. It was warm, not hot. It was cheap, but took way too long.

I lived in Somerville for a year and a half always wishing I had a quality convenient Mexican place that delivered. Well, wish granted! As someone who can't stand Anna's, this place is the anti-Anna's in my eyes. One cold winter's night, sitting in my cozy apartment with one of my faves, we decided we had a hankering. Something a little south of the border maybe? Yes please! We ordered tacos. We ordered quesadillas. We ordered... chicken tenders? Yes, they have those too. It was a delicious fiesta of Mexican deliciousness and chicken tenders that did the salsa all the way to my tummy. Ordered a little Woody's to pour some wine on top. It was an event not to be missed. What did it for me the most? The prices! I couldn't believe how affordable it was. The total was about $30 including delivery and a ridiculous amount of food that was still in my fridge after eating it for 3 days. How can you go wrong with fast, friendly service and deliciousness? You can't. Unless you screw up the order. That didn't happen. Now go forth, and enjoy the Mexican delights that await you. I dare you to find anything remotely sub-par about this place. Even dine in service is fantastic in this clean, welcoming environment.

Good delivery service (usually 30 minutes) Great Burritos Good Prices Chips and salsa accompany all burritos Guacamole is Awesome They have 2 hot sauces that are both amazing and super spicy They heat/toast the burritos after they roll em up They are named "maya sol" haha All around great place. One of the few burrito places I can eat and not feel like I swallowed a stomache full of grease (em hem... ANNAs). Just be careful if you get the guy on the phone, he charges extra for everything. Fresh burritos at a great price delivered to your door... could you really ask for more?

Got their delivery today. The beef quesadia and the chicken chimichanga were out of this world gooooooood. The rice, veggies, refried beans, salsa on the side were good too. I would definitely order from them again. Hey, and their delivery starts at 8 AM!! How cool is that? Breakfast burritos.... mmmmmmm....

Okay. I have to give this 3 stars because I have a serious love/hate relationship with this place. Positive things first: they make my favorite burrito of all time. Regular chicken burrito with everything... you can't go wrong. It's relatively cheap, comes with chips and salsa, and is BETTER than Anna's. Yes, I went there. And I actually do love Anna's, so I think that says something. Here's the thing, though... I only get that perfect burrito about 50% of the time. I actually ORDER it every time, but I don't always get it. Allow me to explain... If you order over the phone: hopefully you know some Spanish, because more often than not, that is the language they'll speak to me over the phone (though I don't speak a word of it). There are a few people there who do speak English and will be able to correctly take your order, but it usually turns into a very long, very confusing conversation that likely ends in things being made incorrectly. Better decision: order online. You can do it right from their website if you don't want to go through Foodler. I've had a bit more success in receiving a correctly-made burrito this way (I've also done large orders for work lunches this way, which unfortunately means more room for error). Also, the time-frame they give you for delivery is almost always inaccurate... in short, it takes forever. Best decision: go into the restaurant to order (even for takeout). A little (or a lot) more work on your part, but at least you'll know what's going into your burrito and won't be totally disappointed when it gets dropped off at your house and you can't do anything about it at that point. I can't not go to this place, because I'm obsessed with their burritos... so I deal with the frustrations and hope for the best. Just don't bother if you're already in a bad mood or are a very impatient person.

I had a burrito here earlier, it was quite tasty and I really like how they toast the outside w/o special request. And I've tried the horchata from just about everywhere in this area and theirs is the best- just like auntie used to make (though it's most likely instant, I'll ignore that, it's delicious). And enough about the Salvadoran vs. Mexican bs. The presence of pupusas does not a Salvadoran restaurant make. Nor does the presence of fried rice in a "Chinese" restaurant. It really isn't Salvadoran or Mexican. Obviously the "Mexican" label has wider appeal and you're in the United States, everything is Americanized to some degree, get over it. Or you could always go to say, Italy, and try to find "authentic" spaghetti and meatballs.

This is far and away the WORST delivery experience I have ever had. Ever. And I have had some super crappy delivery. If I could give them zero stars or negative stars, I would do it. With pleasure. I placed an order online at 7:30 pm this evening. It gave me a funny message after I placed it, so I called the restaurant directly to confirm my order. The order was wrong, despite the fact that I still had the confirmation screen up. And it's not like I ordered something complicated--freaking nachos and a quesadilla. That was the first problem. Fast forward an hour later. The food still hasn't shown up. I call the woman--who was very nice--and she says the delivery guy should be here very soon. A half hour later he still has not shown up. I call again. They tell me they have delivered the food. Well, considering I had never left my apartment, and I am not deaf, they hadn't. They then determine that my address is in the system wrong. Way to go with the online ordering system--because again, I have the page up. I double check the address with them--spelling it out even though I live on a numbered street. She then tells me that someone will be over immediately, with the food and with my money back. An HOUR later, nothing has arrived. It's 10 pm. I call again. They tell me the delivery guy has been calling me. Well, clearly he hasn't because I was sitting with my effing phone in the hallway outside of my apt because I finally had to put my kid to bed, and the door noise would wake her up. And I did have a signal, FYI. I have no missed calls and no voicemails. I basically hung up on them, and I plan on sending a nasty letter to the manager. This place is teh suck. BIG TIME. And I'm still hungry. Angry and hungry. Bastards.

This place has improved since it first opened. Now that I've had a few different things I can tell you there are some great things there. The steak salad is very good, freshly grilled steak over a huge salad. The fried tamale is excellent! Just corn no filling, but tastes so sweet and fresh, I want one now!!...mmmm The chicken tamales are very good. The burritos and enchiladas are also very good and you gets lots of tasty rice with it. My bf is a fan of their chimichangas with rice and beans. Different authentic dihes on the hot bar every day, most I have never heard of but more than not, what I tried has been good. All in all alot of food for what you pay for and mostly delicious.

I'm not sure how come all these folks had bad experiences here, having lived down the street I frequented this place quite a bit and it was always consistently good. Then again, I only ordered veggie burritos (or other veggie-based foods), so I can't speak to the other meals. Best burrito in East Somerville, for what it's worth (not much, sadly).

CHEAP and tasty! I can't wait to try this again. We stopped in before a concert and then dashed across the street to take the bus into Sullivan and then on to the concert. For an otherwise very expensive evening, our dinner cost very little. This would be a great option for people with teenagers who eat A LOT.

Worst Delivery service ever!!. I never even got the chance to try their food. I ordered food at 7pm and when I called at 8pm they said it was leaving the restaurant right then. When I called at 9pm to cancel my order they got mad at me. I had to argue with the manager to get him to agree to refund my money. The delivery guy showed up 20min. later. I didn't take the food. I wish I had read the other post about delivery before placing my order.

Maya Sol is good eats. They have a nice combination of Salvadorian and Mexican dishes (authentic mexican not taco bell mexican). Having grown up in Southern California I had really been missing REAL mexican food. Maya Sol's got some really good things on the menu. The restaurant is big and clean- something that is not the case with most of the taquerias in the area. And unlike many of those, you don't have to speak salvadorian dialect spanish or portuguese in order to read the menu and order. Most of the side dishes are pre-prepared and sitting out buffet style (though you don't serve yourself) but the meat is cooked to order- really good quality (says my non-vegetarian boyfriend) and it certainly looks like the mexican barbeque style i grew up with. i recommend trying the "french-fries" and the plantains for sides- the pinto beans are great and the black beans are good too- the papusas are a little doughy. look out for the mild salsa- it seems to consistently be store-bought- but the hot sauce is made fresh and great! definitely worth eating at- the portions are very generous and all-in-all it's good food. they are open "late" especially for somerville.

This place just opened recently in my neighborhood, and a coupon and menu left at my house convinced me to come and and give it a try. Nothing special. This is Salvadorean food on steam trays in a buffet line, dressed up to be called "Mexican". It's definitely better than Taco Bell, but that's not saying much. I was excited to see what looked like a good green tomatillo salsa, you know the tasty kind with tomatillo, cilantro, and avocado. After pouring some on my chips, it took one bit to realize that it was mostly a sickening puree of pickled jalapenos. Can you imagine a salsa that taste like spicy pickles? Eew. It was really bad, I felt deceived by it's looks, and was really glad I didn't put it on my meal. My burrito was mushy and not very flavorful. The meat was bland, the beans and rice too squishy. The one nice thing about it was that the bland flavors made the guacamole, which was actually pretty good, stand out. With several other (similarly medicore) Mexican places in the immediate vicinity, I can't help but wonder what the point is. As for me, despite living very close by, I will continue to head out to Tacos Lupita or Taqueria a la Mexicana when I am in the mood for Mexican food.

Food is decent, but speed & ability to get order correct is wrong 100% of the time. We waited 1 hour & 55 minutes on a Sunday night for food. It arrived @ 9:55pm. Burritos contained rice, despite all caps request for NO RICE PLEASE. The same thing happened during an on-site dining experience. They forgot the flan, but charged me for it. (I recall seeing a fellow yelper from Medford with almost identical complaints. I should have heeded his warning).

I get steak burritos here all the time - they are so good. I also recommend the fried yuca. The ordering process is pretty confusing. I feel like some people get it and some don't. I know what I want though so I go straight to the register and order my steak burrito and side of yuca. The people who work there are really nice too.

If I could I wouldn't even give this place a star! This place is a joke to anyone who knows and enjoys real Mexican food. Worst Mexican restaurant I've ever eaten at... If you are in the mood for good food... Do yourself a favor and don't come here!!!

It's okay... The burrito's big with a lot of rice and the Nacho's are not gooey enough. The pupusa is typical and the beef salad is all right. overall, an -okay restaurant that will deliver. Will probably eat there again.

This is the worst Mexican food I have had in this area. It seemed that everything was microwaved. The rice probably came from a freezer bag, and the beans were straight out of a can with no seasoning. I ordered cheese enchiladas, and they were tiny. One of them didn't even have cheese inside! And they had a tiny bit of crushed tomato rubbed on top, definitely not the sauce you expect when ordering enchiladas. The salad was very sub par, and they only gave us one packet of dressing for two salads. I definitely suggest that you not order from this restaurant!

Okay, I had big plans for my lunch from Maya Sol. Like others here, I'm from SoCal and have been missing real Mexican food for years now. I'd heard good things about Maya Sol and finally had an opportunity to give it a shot. My friend ordered the chicken quesadilla, and I got the regular chicken burrito. The quesadilla was okay, certainly nothing special (I make better ones at home). There were random bits of vegetables (an odd piece of green bean and corn here and there) and just a few beans (do beans come with it or not?). Overall, nothing to write home about. The burrito was a hot mess. It was overloaded with bland filler rice, and the "beans" were, again, just a smattering here and there--of kidney beans. Kidney beans? Plus the purported combination of cheese and sour cream combined with the rice to flavor the whole thing like some weird Mexican variant of ranch dressing. The guac was pretty good, though, and the tortilla was nicely browned and crisp on one side. I was prepared to fall in love with a new Mexican home-away-from-home, but...not so much. Oh well. Guess it's Anna's for me.

I've driven past Maya Sol numerous times and finally decided to stop in with my roommate. The atmosphere is cozy and the interior has a very Salvadorian-ethnic appeal to it. The menu is small but hits the right spots, enchiladas, burritos, taco salads, papusas, and fruit smoothies. I've never been disappointed with service at the restaurant however when I have ordered either delivery from their website or over the phone every time I've had some sort of small mix-up. I live on the Somerville/Charlestown line so the first time they delivered it took over an hour and they ended up in downtown Charlestown and called my cellphone confused and lost. Another time they came with the wrong order, but it was still delicious regardless. The last time my roommate ordered delivery they completely forgot one of the items and hung up on her when she was placing the order over the phone. Either way I continue to return to Maya Sol despite having delivery mix-ups. It usually ends up being easier to order delivery because their parking situation sucks - no parking lot.

I have never ordered delivery from this place because it is a block from my house, but man oh man it is great Mexican food. As you'll notice in the Broadway area, there are a few restaurants that may or may not be owned by the same folks. Rodizio and Maya Sol are indeed owned by the same people, but there is no comparison (partly because Rodizio is a Brazilian-style steakhouse, partly because Maya Sol's food is WAY better). You can get pretty much whatever you want in the burritos or platas you order (eve tongue!), and they make sure it is served right (good rice, beans, salsa, all the sides). The burritos are fantastic! They are grilled to perfection, and they are priced right. Seriously, if you're in the Broadway/O'Brien Highway area, check this place out.

After passing the new storefront sign we had a sidesplitting laugh over the name of the resturant. My husband's spanish pronunciation isn't that great, needless to say, it didn't sound like a very appealing place to eat. (My-ass-ol - get it??) In any case, I am a mexican food lover and had to give it a try. Upon walking in I was totally impressed with the ambience and decor. It wasn't a mere taco stand with a roof and walls like most in the neighborhood. It had nicer tables with ample seating and a faux fireplace. The long counter display of food was so appetizing that it was hard not to order for 20 people even though there were 4 of us. We brought home burritos, quesadillas, tamales, some beef and veggie dish, plaintains and flan. Everything was great. Perhaps because the place had just opened in the last few days the portions were heaping! Not sure if they can stay in business for long giving away that much guacamole. The quality of food It is up there with Taco Loco, but much more comfortable for dining (unlike Taco Loco, which I only do take out from). I highly recommend the place, but they should think about a name change.

i was disappointed in this place. I went in and tried their tamale de pollo, the yellow rice, and their handmade tortillas. I found all lacking and barely edible. My preference for Northern Mexican Mountain style cooking aside, the stuff i tried just wasn't good. The tamal was soft and gooey and not wrapped or steamed well. The filling was alright but they cheaped on the flavor. The rice was good at first then started to leave a starchy pasty feeling in my mouth and had the texture of being out of a box. The tortillas were like edible cardboard. I did not try anything else. These 3 dishes are pretty good gauge for REAL mexican food and they so failed. Any one can do tacos and burritos. I will have to say that the prices are awesome. I only wasted $3.36 on this crap and the tamale was full sized. I will also comment that their meat products looked and smelt good. I'll have to that next.

Maya Sol is ok. My main issue with this place was the service; I found them to be a little rude. I bought the carne asada plate and split the fried plantains with the boy; we were both shocked to discover that you had to pay extra for the sauce that normally accompanies it. The drink selection was plentiful and my horchata was ok but definitely not as good as what I am used to. The servings are decent sized and the pricing is excellent but I'll be sticking with Taco Loco.

I'm not sure why they call this place "Mexican Grill"? This is clearly not Mexican food. This food is Salvadoran.

Not. Impressed. I lived in the good ole' east 'ville for two years, but was closest to the amazing Taco Loco, and were not just regulars sometimes I felt like lifers.... Went here the other day because parking around Taco Loco was non-existent and I wish we had parked a mile away and walked. Seriously. I got a adobada (pork) taco and a Queso Con Loroco pupusa, which are my two favorites at our usual local. Both were subpar. The taco was on a tiny tortilla with sad toppings, and tasted old. The only saving grace was the meat which was flavorful, but not what I was expecting. The pupusa tasted like it may have been frozen, and was under cooked. To make matters worse the curtido tasted like american coleslaw not the tangy, oh-so delicious pickled taste I'm used to. Salvadoran salsa is generally more watery than most, but what I was served was like 'salsa juice' and it had no other flavor other than 'liquid' which isn't even a flavor. Do yourself a favor, pick one of the other 47 'mexican' places in East Somerville.

I love Maya Sol. I am a big fan of mexican food, and this spot can compete with its burritos and tacos, however, it really shines with Salvadoran food and other dishes like carne asada, pupusas and tamales. I haven't yet tried everything on the menu, but have been pleased with everything I have ordered thus far. In reference to the negative reviews: I have traveled to South America several times and agree with the review that says this is the best latino food in the Boston area, and I believe it is the most authentic I have experienced as well. Not all of us in the U.S. have developed a taste for authentic food from other cultures, but for those who have- I think you'll enjoy Maya Sol. A quick note: I have not ordered for delivery to date, so I cannot comment from experience on the speed or temperature of delivery orders.

Good food! Delivery took an hour, but the food was hot and the flavors were on point! The fried pork was ok - there were lots of hard pork I couldn't eat. But the sweet plantains were amazing and the taco salad was great!

ordered online (foodler). Food (1 quesadillia and 1 burrito) arrived 1 hour and a half later (45 min delay). I had to call twice (the first time I was left waiting on the line for 5 min) before finally receiving my delivery. Food was cold, not tasty and different from what I ordered.

Best latino food in the metro, it's not mexican, although there is a mexican menu for the white folks that don't know any better. Want something good? Learn a little spanish and order off menu, bro. I'd say some of my favorites are: Chilaquiles Izquil relleno Pupusas PS - They're Salvadoran, which is about as mexican as your average brazilian.

Watch out Anna's... I ordered a large chicken burrito with everything for my boyfriend yesterday: he said it was better than your's. That is saying something. A whole lot of something!

"Hey, do you like sub par Mexican food at cheap ass Mexican prices? Well, if you do then dis be your place." For Two dollars and a greasy nickel you can order half the menu, which I did. But here is the catch, they don't send you what you ordered. I hope Y'all like surprises because ordering from here is like opening up a box a cracker jacks. "I DON'T KNOW WHATS IN HERE BUT I KNOW ITS A SURPRISE." They sent me two vegetable Quesadilla instead of one and forgot to send my vegetable burrito and taco salad. Okay, I can understand forgetting one thing. I can understand accidentally sending something else by accident. But forgetting two things? That just ain't right. Do you know how many tricks I had to turn on craigslist to get that two dollars and a greasy nickel? I couldn't let this shit side. I needs to get me my salad, cuz I'm a fake ass bitch. I called they ass up and was like where my food at!? They be all soundln' like a Cholo speak and spell. I'm sorry, but I don't spic Spanish. Anyway, I got my food after a grueling 20 minutes. When the salad got here it was looikin all cold and frozen like a lean cuisine. I scrate through that in the garbage. The only reason I'm giving this ish two stars is because the 1st delivery driver looked kinda cute. Call me boo, I know how to fold a burrito or two if you know what I'm saaaayin.

+1 star for delivery. Thats all I can give them ABSOLUTE WORST "MEXICAN" (its Salvadorian) FOOD I HAVE EVER HAD. Blandest, driest, gorssest crap in a box. Save your money, hop in the car, and go to Taco Bell.

I live nearby and have been here many times. It is well worth the low prices! I would starve if it closed. The vegetarian tacos are delicate and flavorful, served with lime and verde sauce. Burrito and quesadilla are also good picks, but the flavors aren't as distinguishable. I always get a pupusa on the side which is the most consistent thing on the menu. You can't go wrong with cheese filled fresh pockets topped with pickled slaw. One thing to know is that the service is unbelievably slow. They get a ton of takeout orders that always seem to get prepared first. The one thing to avoid on the menu is the vegetarian taco salad - with mediocre iceberg lettuce, raw broccoli and other veg, and none of the avocado or tasty condiments of their other dishes. I wouldn't be this harsh, but compared to the rest of the menu, the taco salad had no place at all. I've never had the meat, but the beef tongue and other meats offer the place a lot of authenticity.

I just ordered from this place and what a waste it was. I ordered a Chicken Special Burrito with mild sauce, beans, sour cream, cheese, pico de Gallo and yellow rice- for all those waste ingredients I ordered it was the driest burrito I have ever had. My partner ordered a quesadilla that did not even come with cheese in it, it was like a big flat taco. Save your money don't order from here.

Solid 3-star experience. - Fun, festive interior - Flat screen TV showing the World Cup (en espanol, of course) - Salsa bar - Lots of seating - Burrito comes loaded at no extra charge plus chips and salsa - Yummy selection of Jarrito soft drinks - Great rice with peas and carrots That all said, - Confusing order process - Very busy, long wait (over 10 minutes) for a burrito I had to try out one of my neighborhood restaurants before I move in August and now I can say I did, but I would try some other places in the area (maybe Taco Loco??) before saying this is my go-to spot.

So, I love nachos. I have copious would-be yelp reviews in my head to verify this fact, but have yet to add them to my online review repertoire, so I don't blame anyone for not knowing this. If you knew me, you'd know. I digress. I just want you to know I have discriminating nacho taste, and I wouldn't steer you wrong. In any case. I waited to write this review in particular as I had only tried the place once, but have since ordered delivery and now feel qualified to speak on all kinds of subjects. The first time I came I ordered chicken enchiladas, 2 pupusas, and arroz con leche (which, unfortunately, was not as creamy/thick as I like a rice pudding to be.) The chicken enchiladas were edible, but underwhelming. Just bare chicken inside a corn tortilla with melted cheese on top. Is it too American of me to wish for enchilada sauce on my enchiladas? Pupusas = yummy. No complaints here. The curtido was marinated enough yet still crunchy enough to satisfy. All in all, 1st trip to Maya Sol, not so bad. Kind of disappointing for about $18 spent on just my own food, but meh, I would go back and try something different. This is where the nachos come in. We ordered delivery for my birthday, so let's say my expectations were already super high. I was really in the mood for some tacos, and again as an avid foodler, I was trying to rack up some stupid foodler gold bonus points. Casting aside my doubts about their delivery service (read the other yelp reviews and believe them this time!) I optimistically thought that our food would arrive on time - around 8:20. Granted, this was a Friday, but early-ish, and we live about 10 mins walking from this place. 9:30 rolls around and still no stinkin' tacos!!!! Finally our food showed up, and everything was stone ass cold (as I like to say). We'd ordered a smattering of taco flavors, both in flaccid corn shells, and were rather disappointed with the chewy steak and super fatty pieces of pork pinched in. I know this stuff is cheap, but I'd take slummy Allston food any day. The star of this show was really the nachos, though, as they were what I was most excited for. Having been spoiled by Johnny at Habanero's in aforementioned slummy Allston, I had super high (birthday) hopes for these chips and cheese. What came was a cold yet somehow still overcooked pile of chips with too-dark refried bean "sauce" and waaaayyy too much sour cream than is necessary on any pile of nachos, be they delicious or disgusting. There was some guac, which I appreciated, but not enough cheese to even warrant a microwave heat-up salvaging. *sigh* It was really bad. The chicken on the nachos wasn't outright awful, but it certainly couldn't carry the whole plate into worthwhileness. I will say, however, I did go for a bean and cheese pupusa, and they did not disappoint. I could count on this place for just that, maybe, but I'm inclined to go see what the big yank is over at Taco Loco. Enough with the cliches and idioms. Long story short (I had to add one more) maybe try Maya Sol if you are into the blander and colder side of Mexican cuisine. Pupusas: yes. Everything else: probably not.

This place is the woooooorst. If I could give zero stars, I would. We ordered delivery from them at 11:15am. At 1pm, they called us to tell us they were outside. They weren't. Ten minutes and four phone calls later, the delivery guy shows up, yelling at us that we need to pay him fast because he parked illegally. He takes off without another word. We open our food and chaos ensues. We got two orders of fajitas: they forgot to give us tortillas. We ordered two quesadillas - only one showed up, and it came with guacamole on it (not usually an issue, except the person who ordered it hates it and nowhere on the menu did it say the quesadilla came with guac). We called them back to request the tortillas we need for the fajitas, and they told us the delivery guy must have left them in his car....and that they weren't going to come back because "they were busy." The woman offered us a discount for "next time" but we will NOT be ordering again.

With such a large population of Latin Americans in Boston it's still so hard to find a good mexican joint. Got nachos, which were just okay. they nuked it to death so the cheese would melt and consequently the beans were overdone, very dry. The most offensive thing about their food is the rice they use. I've never had boxed rice, but I'm positive this is what it tastes like. Spanish/Latin rice really brings the food together and it's so easy to make. Order your food and ask them to hold the rice.

Fast, inexpensive, tasty Mexican food. What else can I say? Plenty of space for a sit down meal, Spanish soap operas on the television, friendly service. Have only been for lunch/ dinner, curious to try their breakfast.

I LOVE Mexican food... but this was hands down, the worst I've ever had. We tried to place an order for delivery over the phone and confronted a really awkward and unbelievable language barrier and breakdown in communication. The guy taking our order was clearly carrying on a conversation with someone across the room, and even after spelling the street name twice, he was still completely dumbfounded. While this should have been a red flag, we opted to drive there for order & pickup. We ordered breakfast (Huevos Rancheros & Huevos Picados), and wished we hadn't. Everything was overcooked. By a lot. The scrambled eggs were grayish brown. We picked, but nothing was worth eating. There was not one redeeming quality of the meal. Not even a stoner with a killer case of the munchies would stomach this garbage --total waste of money, total waste of time. I don't know how their other food is, but I'm more than satisfied with never knowing.

Absolutely terrible. DO NOT ORDER DELIVERY. I waited 1.5hrs for them to deliver a burrito. I kept calling them asking when the food would arrive and it was always "in 5 minutes." The food got here cold. I was so mad I refused to tip the driver which I never do. The burrito was average at best. The empanada was the worst I had tasted. I will never ever ever order fro here again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So like a sucker I ordered again because they just got added to Foodler's roster. foodler.com/MA/Somervill… This time I put clear as day instructions for my Burrito and surprisingly they came through. I did like the hot sauce was actually hot and required two glasses of milk to kill off the burn. It wasn't Taco Loco perfection of a chicken burrito but it was still pretty good-dare I say above pretty good. This time they also got the nachos and drink correct so I think the foodler process has got them on-board with literacy. Give it a shot if you need a burrito delivered and don't want to spend $4.99 for a delivery charge from Mix Menu for other Mexican places.

Good food, reasonably priced. Went here randomly one weeknight after going past it every single day on the bus for a while. Called ahead and it was ready and waiting when I got there about 15 minutes later. We went with burritos and pupusas and it was great. Too much to eat in one meal so lunch the next day was all set. Not too expensive and pretty tasty. Would go back for sure.

I was going from a 3 to a 4 star and just couldnt make up my mind, I've had very delisious pupusas here and a terrible, salty, cold beef stew. Service here isn't that good, but they have the best banana smoothie! The place is clean and big compared to other restaurants on the block. So all in all I give it a solid 3 stars.

The food was pretty gross and portions were small. Ordered through foodler.com and it took about an hour to be delivered. I got an order of steak fajitas, chips, salsa, and guac. The steak in the fajitas was incredible gristly. There was a good amount of meat and veggies, but the order came with only 2 tiny tortillas. Weirder, the tortillas were really really thick - think flatbread - and therefore split in half when I tried to wrap my fajita together. The chips were a tiny portion and the salsa and guac were probably a tablespoon each in tiny little plastic cups.

Don't order delivery from this place. They totally can't handle things like, finding the right street or determining the difference between BROADWAY and BEACON. If you're lucky, you might get a frantic call from a deliveryman rambling incoherently in Spanish at you. I had to call them AN HOUR AND A HALF LATER to CANCEL THE ORDER. STARVING. I knew it was too good to be true. Never again. You fail it.

Despite the unfortunate titling of this place (I will say no more), this is the answer to my prayers for cheap, and flipping great Mexican cuisine. We've got Taqueria's coming out of the wazoo in these parts, but a place that you can get a killer beef tongue taco for 1.50 and a packed-to-the-gills burrito for 4.99 is winner in my book. I've heard their delivery blows, so I would suggest just picking it up. It's easy to get to and they're quick. Maya Sol lets you get everything you want, with money left over to get a sixer of Dos Equis. Stay thirsty.

My first time there tonight. Very good Mexican food. If you buy a "plate," the portion is pretty large. The carne asada plate was excellent. I'll be back.

I'll state the obvious and get it out of the way: the name is unfortunate, and anyone in a slightly wise-ass mood will probably notice that. Regardless, this spot is legit for cheap, tasty burritos and other Mexican (or Salvadorian, take your pick) treats. Plus, it is a great place to watch soccer and listen in on futbol bets and 'My team is better than yours' trash talk as we get closer to the World Cup. The salsa is fresh, the burritos are perfectly spicy (and can be made extra hot if you wish), and the guacamole is avocadolicious. Skip the greasy, over-hyped undergrad staple that is Annas Taqueria and try a legit, local spot.

I'll make this quick. I got a taco salad from here and it was awesome! Fresh ingredients, big portions and cheap prices. The decor is nice (far nicer than ANY Anna's). I need to try more things on the menu but the have a hell of a lot to choose from!

Great Delivery Service if you're in the area - although the delivery guy doesn't usually have change. Tip bigger paying it forward. The Papusas are to die for - so are the Quesadilla - order it with everything.

I swear, this was the ONLY place open on Christmas day in Somerville. Food was wicked cheap... we got chips, a burrito, sandwich and empanadas w/ sodas for $11. The quality was better than most places around!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
