DELICIOUS FOOD!!!! I had the ground sirloin, the best cornbread, perfectly cooked, fresh green beans and homemade cranberry sauce. The owner was friendly and very attentive. My friends had the homemade chicken pot pie and they couldn't stop raving about it! Highly recommend this place!!!!!

I ate here recently, I would rate this place just OK. The food was just average. It tasted fine, It just was boring and was just thrown together plopped in a foam take out box. This place had several problems going wrong.. 1. Not Wheelchair Accessible. 2. They did not restock their takeout menu's.. They did have a menu posted on the wall outside near the front door. The thing is. If your in a Wheelchair as I am, you can not read the outside menu cause you can't get close enough to read it. I had to look up their menu on my cellphone to see what I wanted. 3. Food ordering Issues. I decided to order a #2 Combo plate included 1 piece of rotisserie chicken breast, plus your choice of 2 sides & cornbread. I asked for mac and cheese and stuffing as sides. My son went in to place the order. He comes out after a couple of minutes and the cook said "I could not get mac and cheese with my meal" "not a side item" well it was listed under sides and there was no note that I couldn't get mac and cheese. So I went with mashed potatoes. I was put off by that. My son ordered pork sliders. His was to come with corn and some local mom and pop bag of potato chips. When we opened our food boxes he was given a bag of lay's chips. not what was described on the menu. Like I said the food was just thrown together, It didn't seem like they gave a crap. 4. Slow Service. We ordered pretty standard food. The food should have been already prepared. All they had to do was put it together in a take out box. The place was empty no other customers. 2 Customers were sitting at their outside seating area. One customer was already served. And the other customer was just sitting there eating food from another place just using their table. We waited 25 - 30 minutes for our food. the 2 guys that were working there just talked & talked & talked. nothing seemed to be getting done. probably cause they had no customers. Portions were small, food tasted OK. My chicken was very dry, the food did seem homemade the cranberry sauce that came with my meal was about a tablespoon full, Cornbread was soft & mushy it came in tin foil. I opened it. it was just crumbled. The highlight was my Wife ordered their "Thanksgiving Sandwich" Incredible. It was massive and yummy. The bottom line: I would not eat here again. two many issues. Go elsewhere.

I ordered the garlic and herb rotisserie chicken with green beans. I have had better rotisserie chickens from grocery store chains. The skin was not even well browned, and the chicken was dry and chewy. The green beans were alright, but everything needed more seasoning and a healthy dose of salt. Inside the restaurant the girl preparing food for other other customers was picking up spilled French fries that fell on the prep table and placing them in the baskets. Not a huge deal, but there seemed to be just way to much touching of everything without gloves in preparing those entrees. The kitchen just looked gross too, floor was dirty, prep tables strewn with prep items. I'm not a germaphobe by any means, but it did give me a feeling of uneasiness.

I visited in late October of 2014, the notorious busy/Halloween season in Salem, MA. EVERYONE on the East coast KNOWS this is Salem's BUSY season. Its no surprise. It happens EVERY October. You better be ready. Period. I went in specifically for the Thanksgiving sandwich about noon. Nothing was ready. NOTHING. They said come back in an hour when the meat was cooked. WHAT WHAT?? They had already been open an hour! WHY... in the middle of the BUSIEST time of the year, do you NOT have it together an HOUR after you've OPENED your doors??? This is not good business. GET YOUR EMPLOYEES IN EARLIER, GET YOUR PRE-WORK DONE, GET YOUR MEAT COOKED, AND BE READY FOR CUSTOMERS! This is not a drill! They also need more than 2 two-person tables. Perhaps some outside seating? I'll be visiting again in late October 2015, Custom House Rotisserie. You better impress me. I have faith in you. I am expecting to write a glowing review for you in November 2015. Get it together!

This place has signs all over about the Thanksgiving Sand-witch - and I love these sandwiches. So I stopped in on the last day of my year of living in Salem. It was a weekend. Place is a small mostly to-go sandwich stop. Staff was really friendly and nice. I ordered the sandwich, which came out quickly. Cam with a drink and bag of chips. The sand-witch was big, had the ingredient promised, and made me happy. Overall, it was a solid sandwich. Relatively bland flavor-wise (I added pepper and some hot sauce to spice it up and add some flavor) but not surprisingly for this kind of place.
(3)Jonathan C.
Great Chicken. I like the Corn Bread/Cake too (they put white cake mix in the corn bread). I will definitely be back here - so many things I want to try! I didn't love the sweet potato - rather bland. Could have used more cinnamon or something. Otherwise, great meal.

Actually, should be 1/2 star. This place has gone way downhill from my previous visits. Started at Five and now 1/2. All I can say is don't go there. I have to say Boston Market is now better than this dive. The food is awful. Undercooked and tasteless or loaded with salt. Used to be known for its great tasting gravy. Yuck.. Rancid tasting. Canned gravy is better. Enough of this place. I'm outta here. Ba bye.
(1)Briana L.
Did not seem clean, was not ready to serve lunch at noon, and brought food out lukewarm. Unimpressed.

Delicious! I have been pestering my husband to come eat here and we finally came. It was a gorgeous day so we ate outside. The inside is on the small side. We got a whole chicken with 2 large sides and it also came with complimentary gravy, cranberry sauce, and cornbread. The chicken was juicy and moist and made for great leftovers. The amount of food was enough for four people (or in our case my husband and I ate it for lunch and dinner). The gravy was just amazing. Drooling just thinking about it. We got green beans and macaroni and cheese. Both were yummy but the cheese kinda had an American cheese taste (which I didn't mind but I think I would have liked a sharp cheddar mac n cheese). The cornbread was sweet and fluffy. The place is a little hard to find. It is tucked away and it is across from the Salem Wax museum and the Salem witch museum. Definitely worth searching for though!

This place is a hidden gem- I say hidden because I had walked by it for months not knowing ti was there. But once you know it's there, you will be impressed by the scratch kitchen efforts for all the food, the amazing freshness, and the owners happy and winning attitude towards customizing your meal to suit your needs. I am one of those that always wants to sub out something on a dish and they always accommodate and even suggest better subs for me! They also have a great outdoor seating area with umbrella's and comfy chairs. This is the best place for non-grocery store/non-Boston Market home cooking- the chicken is moist and flavorful without being injected with preservatives and cheap salty seasonings- and the gravy is made from scratch. Go here. You won't regret it!
(5)Dan B.
Great place for comfort food. Hot, large portions, great prices, and best of all tasty. Turkey was moist, I suspect Yukon gold potatoes for the mash were well done. The sweet corn bread was a pleasant treat. Very small eating space but the weather was beautiful so we ate on the patio
(5)Emmanuel R.
Can't believe they won't deliver to peabody marriot unless I pay $50 to order for myself. I find it crazy. I'm 15 mins !!!!!and the dinner is only$ 25. They should take there delivery service. Out of yelp period. Loosing a good customer.
(1)Tanya E.
No complaints - the cornbread is by far the best I've ever had, tastes like cake. The pot pie is very good here. I personally don't love the cranberry sauce its a bit too bitter for me. Otherwise Highly recommend this place, it's down a little side street wish they had actual parking lot and were easier to get to. Would go here over Boston market in a heart beat, it's basically homemade over the highly processed food at Boston market.
(5)Heidi P.
We stopped by here because we thought it was "the best sandwich ever". It ended up being mediocre at best. Quite a disappointment. $10 was way too much for the thanksgiving sandwich. There was too much bread and it was quite bland. We believe all the reviews were written by friends and family.
(2)M D.
Truly a wonderful meal!!! The food is wonderful. We had a range of items from the menu, and all were exceptional. Chicken dinner with mash potato and carrots was perfectly prepared and a wonderful balance of flavors - love the gravy Lemon chicken sandwich was great. Burger was well great as well. Looking forward to going back ... soon!
(5)Pam C.
Passed by this place during Salem Halloween craziness - they had a really cute booth advertising their "Thanksgiving Turkey" and had all of their staff dressed as turkeys or chicken. Very cute. By the time we got there though, they had already run out of Turkey - apparently they went through more than a dozen turkeys on Halloween weekend, and it was only 6pm. We settled for a chicken thanksgiving sandwich, which was just as good. The sandwiches are pretty huge - they use two large bread rolls side by side instead of just one, stacked high with stuffing and meat so it's quite a sizable meal. They have a fun selection of Thanksgiving sizes - including Apple stuffing and cranberry sauce. Their mac and cheese is only available in a large size, but when we got it, it tasted exactly like it was made with Velveta.
(4)Meredith M.
Thank you yelp. This is an establishment we could have missed out on and it's practically in our back yard. The location is odd. It's tucked back at the end of a touristy walkway. You can't see it from derby street if you are driving. The rotisserie chickens have always been phenomenal and reliable. The meals are like boston market times 100. So fresh and warm and comforting. If you are really hungry, this is the place to go!
(5)Steven H.
Tiny spot in a haunted Salem alley that exceeds expectations. Food is fresh, primarily homemade and very tasty. Owner is personable and welcoming. Stopped in with my son on a weekday afternoon after finding this little gem on Yelp. I had a the rotisserie chicken dinner which came with a light poultry gravy, a very good biscuit-like cornbread and a great tart cranberry sauce, along with two sides of my choosing - I went with the baked beans (worthy) and green beans (don't bother). My son had a great chicken sandwich, stuffed with moist white meat. Like a lot of places in Salem, this has a young college-town vibe - the extremely limited seating is along a bench opposite where you order and the meals are served in throwaway containers, so don't expect a high brow experience. But if you're interested in reasonably priced, homemade turkey and chicken offerings, this is your place.
(4)Kristen P.
We stopped in for a quick lunch based on reviews. The chicken was a bit dry and the veggies a bit bland. However the staff was very friendly and even let me into the "dungeon" to use the restroom. Also, the food came out quick and the price wAs great!
(3)Cathrine N.
Being a hospitality major, I truly appreciate moments where I experience exceptional hospitality. Traveling to Salem on Halloween has been a crazy experience but having a moment to sit down to a delicious home cooked meal at a reasonable price was a breath of fresh air. The service was fast and authentic. The past owner took the time to speak with us and the girl in a Batman shirt made sure we did not have a long wait. Thank you.
(5)Melanie S.
Delicious turkey + chicken meals. Stuffing was on point. Nice little tucked away spot in Salem. Will definitely go back.
(4)Nick D.
This has been the best experience I have ever had with a restaurant in my life. As soon as we arrived in Salem the first thing we knew we had to do was come to the Custom House Rotisserie and try this sandwich that we have heard so much about; not only did it exceed our expectations but the owner, Bill, provided the upmost and exceptionally high quality customer service we have ever received. He not only was very friendly but was also very passionate about his work and displayed amazing service. There are a few places that you need to experience when visiting Salem and this restaurant needs to be at the top if your list. We will definitely be back, hungry for more.
(5)Robert C.
Great food! Had the turkey dinner...meat was very tender! Almost 5 stars, but need more seating.
(4)Jannie H.
A hidden gem in a little ally way. You'll have to be on the look out for this place if you are in town. Their food is declicious, we ordered half a chicken with mac and cheese and green bean (cranberry and corn bread came with it) to share. Then we saw that they had chicken pot pie so we ordered that with the apple sausage stuffing and sweet potatoe and it was amazing. - Chicken was seasoned okay, it tasted better being dipped in their delicious gravey though. - Mac and Cheese was alright, it was made to order and was made with that white and yellow chesse blend. I think it needed depth from a saltier cheese. Just my opinion. - Green beans tasted and looked like they came from a can, so I wouldn't order that again. - Chicken pot pie was so delcious and flaky. I love me some extra sauce, but didn't have any on hand so I pour the delicous gravey on it. =P - The apple sausage stuffing is amazing!!! I'm planning to make it for Thanksgiving now, because the husband hates stuffing and he loved this stuffing. - Sweet potatoe was good. - Cranberries are made from scratch and it was a little too tart for my liking. - Corn beard was kinda blah. It was more of a dry crumbly cake consistency. Having lived in North Carolina for three years, the corn bread was kinda of meh to me. If you want to order extra corn bread, cranberry sauce, or gravey, be prepared to pay an extra $0.50 for a large ramekin size of gravey.
(4)Art S.
Found this place by accident and decided to eat here after reading a few reviews. Ordered chicken pot pie meal and, even though I got sweet potatoes instead of baked beans that I ordered, the food was so good! It could have been warmer, but I enjoyed the homemade cranberry sauce and stuffing with the pot pie.
(4)Carey D.
The meat in our sandwiches and salads was good but overall I wasn't impressed. There was way too much bread for my Thanksgiving sandwich. Location was great. We sat outside, enjoying nice weather.
(3)Brennan P.
So yummy, it's unbelievable. Moist and juicy chicken, homemade pot pies, great sandwiches. Fast service, personable people. Yay!
(5)James G.
Was pretty good. We had the chicken club sandwich with turkey, rather than the chicken, it was moist and plentiful. It could have used a little more mayo. The staff was very friendly and courteous. We will return
(4)John B.
Best roto chicken in Salem Everything is fresh Top grade chickens, not like super market brands
(5)Giovanna A.
Located in the haunted village, we ordered at the outside stand. We ordered their Thanksgiving sandwich, which was everything you could imagine about Thanksgiving. It was turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing, gravy and apples all on bread. I was hoping there would be more turkey than stuffing, but it was good to try. The staff was really friendly too!

I had a pretty lackluster experience completely based on the fact that they didn't have anything when I went. My boyfriend and I had been excited to go, and he enjoyed it, but I had a very sub-par experience. We walk in on a Saturday at noon (they open at 11) and I immediately order the pot pie I had been so excited for, because it also came with two sides and I was desperately craving mac and cheese. The two girls working there couldn't have been older than 18, and one just goes, "oh, they're not done yet." ...Okay, when will they be done? She proceeds to walk over to the oven, peak in, shrug and say, "I dunno, like 20 minutes." Immediately I'm turned off, but I just skim the menu and land on the chicken BLT. I order it only to realize its the same price ($8.95) as the pot pie I'm not getting and it doesn't come with any sides, and it's an extra $2.50 to get a side. Sigh, oh well, I order a side of mac and cheese. "Oh we're out of that." SERIOUSLY? At this point I'm so annoyed I just pay for the sandwich, a side of apple sausage stuffing and a drink. When they brought the food out to the table outside, I was extremely disappointed with the size of the sandwich. Really small, relatively flavorless and just looked like something I could have gotten from KFC. The "cranberry aioli" was a hot pink (I kid you not) watery slather on the roll. Very strange. Lastly, they're cornbread tastes like cake made from a box mix. Reasons why they got two stars instead of one: Outside seating Apple sausage stuffing was delicious Boyfriend's meal of meatloaf was really good (although small in size)
(2)Jeffrey A.
Just about the slowest service I've ever experienced. Seems like the place would be quick, but waited half an hour for 2 sandwiches. On the other hand, the rotisserie chicken sandwiches were REALLY good - moist, flavorful - and the fries were outstanding.
(3)Liz S.
If you're hungry for amazingly delicious food...go here. If you appreciate wonderfully hospitable individuals taking your order with a sincere smile...go here. If you're looking for a spacious place for a large group with a great deal of seating...order the food from here and invite your guests to your home to dine on this delicious feast. This food is that fantastic and the owner is an absolute delight! You will not regret it. The portions are extremely generous, it felt like Thanksgiving Day in October! We will definitely return.
(5)Samantha M.
For such high reviews, I was so excited to go here...Thanksgiving food before the holidays...yes! Unfortunately, I was very disappointed when visiting here. My husband and I were in Salem for Halloween festivities and made this a must do stop for lunch. We walked in and saw there were only 3 tables inside, and all were full. Luckily it was a freakishly warm October day and they had an outside table available. We ordered inside and they said they'd bring the food out. I went in to use the bathroom and the girls behind the counter wouldn't let me. Told me to go to the porta potties down the road. Paying patron and I can't use the restroom...really? Waited for about 20 minutes for our food, and no one came to check on us or let us know it was on its way. Then, they brought the wrong food and didn't seem to want to fix it. So we just ate what they gave us. It was alright. The potatoes tasted like powdered potatoes, the stuffing was dried out, and the chicken was a tad undercooked. The mac and cheese was good, but anything drenched in that much velveeta will taste ok. Asked for some more gravy for the potatoes (and to put over the dry stuffing) and they brought the tiniest portion and said that's all they could spare without charging... Won't go back there if we return to Salem. There's plenty of options in the area.

A teeny tiny place with a few tables outside if it's nice. There's something about Custom House Rotisserie. The sandwiches don't look like anything to write home about, but they're pretty flipping delicious. A few of us were exploring Salem for the afternoon and decided to grab some lunch. I used my trusty Yelp app to track this place down and boy-howdy were we all glad I did. Cash only - but I believe there was an ATM in there. Between the three of us we got a rotisserie chicken sandwich, Thanksgiving sandwich and chicken BLT. We were all pleasantly surprised at how great the quality was. The chicken was perfectly juicy and delightful. The fresh cranberry sauce in the Thanksgiving sandwich was some tart and sweet goodness. We also shared a side of mac and cheese which was ridiculous. So gooey and cheesy and amazing. Yum. The service was great. The sandwiches were reedic. The outdoor seating was lovely. Win. Win. Win.
(4)Carlos J.
Our 6/23 flight was canceled and rescheduled for the next day, so we drove to Salem. One of the bright points was the visit to Custom House Rotisserie. I had the pulled pork sandwich. It was delicious. The place is tiny, but there was plenty of outdoor seating and it was a beautiful day!
(4)G F.
I loved the food!!!
(5)John D.
Had the Thanksgiving sandwich. I didn't care for it at all. Sour tasting something on it. Others in my party did like it, so I won't condemn this place on 1 experience. There were a young male and female working. I should say the young man was doing the work for both.
(3)R P.
Tiny shop with tasty morsels, next to the old cemetery and faux-museums.
(4)Brian C.
This place is fantastic and a true gem amidst a very touristy area. We almost turned around when we first arrived given it was the dead of summer and there wasn't any good inside seating. However, I'm glad we didn't. My wife got the Thanksgiving sandwich and I got the buffalo wrap. While my wrap was fantastic, the Thanksgiving sandwich was the star of the show. It really tasted like eating a Thanksgiving meal. I recommend asking for extra gravy as it could get a bit dry for some. The portions were huge and well worth the money. The fries were also very good. Also impressive was the friendliness of the staff. the portions were so big that we each took half of our sandwiches home and they were kind enough to wrap them up well versus just throwing them in the standard styrofoam box. Next time I'm in Salem I will be sure to stop in.
(5)kelly b.
Always wanted to try this place finally got the chance tonight. The food was great and the people were very friendly. Would definitely recommend and will definitely go there again.
(5)Tina J.
We had the chicken dinner which was great. The price was very reasonable $22 for a full chicken, 2 sides, cranberry relish and cornbread. They were also nice enough to include plates and utensils.
(5)Alyssa B.
I am not quite sure if I came on an 'off-day' or something, but it just didn't excite me like I was expecting. I ordered the half chicken with stuffing and green beans. The chicken was dry and it just seemed old. Unfortunately I can't tell you about the stuffing because I received mashed potatoes. They were yummy, maybe the best thing on my plate, but I really wanted stuffing. The green beans were basically green beans out of a can. My boyfriend had the Thanksgiving sandwich, and he liked it, but I think he was disappointed too, it just wasn't awesome. With all the high reviews, maybe I'd try it one more time, but I just can't get on the 5 star train after my first experience.
(2)Thumper B.
I had such high expectations for this place after reading the reviews...but it was just ok. Chicken pot pie (that's suppose to be great) is just ok. Red's Sandwich makes better chicken pot pie to be fair. (although I am not a fan of Red's Sandwich) Boyfriend had the meatloaf which was not very memorable. Side dishes were so so, nothing great. You can say we should have had the chicken!! the chicken!! to be able to assess the place better...but if the other 2 big menu items were so off...its highly unlikely we will come back again. Salem needs to do better with their food.
(2)Mark R.
Probably the most friendly people I've ever seen run a restaurant. And the food is great as well. Stand outs include the mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce. Everything homemade on the premises.
(5)Milad B.
Great food. Got the chuck dodge, best sandwich I have had. Wasn't dry and the mushroom gravy was good. Generous portions. Great service, a must try.
(5)Jake W.
After striking out with a lengthly line on our first attempt at a lunch spot with our toddler, we hit up Yelp and found Custom House Rotisserie nearby. I was uncertain how it was going to work out, as there were just three small tables, but getting there at before noon paid off, as we were the only ones eating in and the owner was extremely welcoming, moving together two tables for our party of five. Now I've had enough mediocre Thanksgiving sandwiches and wraps in my time to be pretty leery of them, but the menu said their Thanksgiving sandwich was award-winning, so I took the plunge. It was top shelf. Great local Italian bread, excellent thick, moist turkey, and amazing gravy. The cup of clam chowder I had was decent, but definitely overshadowed by the sandwich. My wife thought her lemon chicken sandwich also was fantastic, and the half chicken my in-laws shared got high marks. I definitely would recommend this place to anyone looking for a good rotisserie bird or sandwich. I'm guessing tables are at a premium during peak periods, so maybe plan on getting your food to go if it's a busy time.
(5)Marc R.
We were looking for a healthy, and reasonably priced place for a quick dinner. This place was perfect! Of course the chicken pot pie was delicious as others have indicated, the Thanksgiving turkey sandwich was awesome, the stuffing and mashed potatoes were also great! The the three people that were working in there were very friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. They were also great conversationalist and the owner had a great smile!
(5)J V.
This is another one of those great little hidden spots; it is hidden up on a dead end over by the beer works. The food is excellent; everything is cooked fresh and defiantly has the home cooked feeling. The menu is basically like a Boston Market on steroids, but by no means is the food of the same quality; this place would make you never go to a Boston Market again if you are in the area. The staff there is very friendly; they defiantly seem to really appreciate the business. This is more of a take out place, very small; they do have a couple of tables that sit 2. I know they were doing delivery, not sure if they still do? But once again if you are looking for some good home cooking, and mom isn't around, make it a point to try this place
(4)Kammie C.
I have been going to this place for over a year now. The owners are always welcoming (they gave us a bowl of soup for free last time we were in and waiting). They use quality ingredients and prepare everything fresh and it shows. I honestly don't know how the prices can be cheap for food this good. The only drawback is that there are very limited tables inside (2 or 3) and only a few picnic type tables outside. I always get takeout from here after long days at work when I still want some yummy home-cooked tasting comfort food. Go here! you really won't regret it, I promise. PS- That person who said they drank the gravy, I don't blame you and I have too!
(5)Michael D.
Me and my girlfriend have been wanting to try this place out for a while but just kept putting off. Then we visited the Tavern on the Green in the Hawthorne Hotel where the bartender is the sister of the owner of this place. So, we took it as a sign from the food gods and went the next night. I got the 1/2 lemon pepper rotisserie chicken and it was magnificent! For my sides I got the mashed potatoes with gravy. They not only know how to cook this chicken right but they have the right amount of seasoning with it and the wait time was fast. We called our order in and walked down there and it was ready for pickup by the time we got there which was about 10 minutes or so. I was surprised to see there wasn't much seating which didn't matter for us since we were taking it home. The service was great too. We walked in and were greeted by an employee asking us how we were today and had a smile on his face that seemed very sincere. We will be going back again and would definitely recommend this place!
(4)Jason A.
Brought the family here recently, lucked out as there was outside seating open and the weather was good. A staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Ordered the Thanksgiving sandwich, wife ordered the Heather Salad with chicken and the kids of course wanted the chicken fingers. Everything on the sandwich was fresh and it was a real treat getting freshly roasted turkey, I would come back just for that. Salad was very fresh with perfectly cooked chicken breast on top. The kid's chicken fingers came out and they weighed more than an adult meal, massive pile of thin fires cooked to perfection and the fingers were simply but coated very well, white meat all around with clear juices running when split open. Hell, almost wish I had ordered that instead!! LOL. Pricing is average to slightly high but it is well worth every penny. Will be coming back here for lunch rather than making a mistake of hitting some random "pub" that usually has a cookie cutter menu. Also will be getting some takeout soon as well.
(5)Sean M.
My family and I stumbled across Custom House Rotisserie sometime during our vacation in late January craving soups and hot foods to warm ourselves up after a cold winter day. We instantly noticed how kind and generous the owner was as he greeted us with a warm smile and offered us a selection of dishes. We tried the family pot pie, hot dogs and a couple of sides such as the golden Yukon mashed potatoes, homemade cranberry sauce, Boston baked beans, and the sweet potatoes. I'd have to admit that Custom House had the BEST family pot pies that I have ever tasted in my life. Also, their side dishes were delicious and complimented the main dish well. Great place with great people,so you should definitely check it out!
(5)Joy F.
Chicken platter meal was delicious! So much for one person... had 1/4 chicken, 2 sides, and corn bread. It was all really good and the service was excellent!
(5)Loli L.
I have a confession to make: I drank the gravy. I don't even care for gravy all that much so you can understand why I was initially horrified when the owner, Bill (who is a super nice guy, btw), lovingly poured gravy over our lemon pepper rotisserie chicken. I realize now that he had simply baptized it with more flavor. If you see him doing this to your food consider your food officially blessed- ours surely was. My lumberjack and I sopped up all remaining remnants of the gravy. Don't get me wrong, the chicken was fantastic- the gravy just made it phenomenal...and we practically fought over the chorizo stuffing. We returned the next day for the Thanksgiving sandwich. It's pretty much the best thing ever. When Mr. Bill came by and asked if we needed anything else, we were prepared to say no...but then he said, gravy. Thanksgiving sandwich with extra gravy is the extra bestest thing ever. When the sandwich was done, we ate the crumbs, and when the crumbs were gone I happily drank the leftover gravy. It was so good! Trust Bill, trust his food, and trust his gravy. You'll be glad you did.

We were at the Peabody Essex Museum and yelped restaurants - this one had 34 reviews and 5 stars. It's on a very short dead end street across from the cemetery with the witch trials victims memorial. Chicken pot pies and salads were wonderful. I'm not a mac n cheese guy, but the mac n cheese with the pot pie combo was great. I had the cordon bleu sandwich - good but go for the pies! I don't remember the names of the salads but the best one was very fresh with strawberries, blueberries, goat cheese and a nice vinaigrette dressing. Sat down with Bill, the owner for a bit - he mentioned that people from Salem wonder, where is Liberty Street? Very friendly staff, not much seating - I think they had three tables. Good for take out, delivery or in our case the three of us sitting down for dinner.
(4)Nicky M.
The price for a half chicken, perfectly cooked, with two vegetables, was low. The butternut squash was seasoned just the right way, and the owner & staff were quite friendly. They deserve their stars.

If you have no time to make a comfy home cooked meal, this place is heaven. The owner/chef is one of the most personable people I have ever met, always offering us free nibbles when we're waiting for take out, and always smiling. The lemon herb chicken is crispy skinned and juicy inside, and the sides are piping hot and delicious. The homemade cranberry sauce is just like grandma's.
(5)Francesca G.
You can tell they really take their food seriously. Everything was excellent. My favorite was the macaroni and cheese and cornbread. The chicken was also cooked to perfection. I wish I lived in Salem so I could eat here more often!
(5)Kelsey M.
It's a little bit of a drive from Boston, but this place is worth a stop! They offer several meals that taste great. The food is great and the friendliness of the staff is even greater. Their cornbread is unique. Be sure to go see the old Salem cemetery and memorial to the persons executed for 'witchcraft.'

Found this place just walking down an alley. Had the thanksgiving sandwich and it was wonderful! My husband and I told them we would be sharing the sandwich and they cut it, plated it on separate plates and offered two bags of chips. Usually for Sharing one of us has to eat on a napkin. We loved the stuffing and cranberries--and of course the gravy. A nice big sandwich. Ck
(5)Jeff W.
We were skeptical at first, since a sandwich with cranberry sauce and gravy didn't sound appealing. We tried it despite our misgivings, and it was fantastic!
(5)Emily D.
Quick and very friendly service. Came here with two small kids and the guys who work here were very nice and accommodating. The food was good and I would recommend the thanksgiving sandwich. What stands out the most is the great service we received.

I've always had excellent sandwiches in the past, the owner who is usually there is great and have been there many times. Decided to bring my employees there for lunch today. The sandwiches are all handmade and expected a normal wait of about 15 minutes. It started out frustrating as the only employee there other than the person out back couldn't use the cash register well .. Took forever just to order 3 sandwiches. After 20 minutes of waiting outside at a table she informed me they didn't have roll ups but she would "look in the cellar" to see if any where down there..Turn off #1. After another 20 minutes I go in to see her tearing apart all dark meat for our sandwiches which were a mess.... Turn off #2 .. Waited another 10 min for her to figure out how to wrap them.. Just then another person, maybe a manager, walked in and I hear her say "do you need any help" .. the original employee was clearly stressed and overwhelmed.. The meal was horrible, We had three different size sandwiches even though we ordered the same thing, my wrap had obviously been put on a grease filled table covered in sesame seeds and was dripping with oil. I had told the server I was alergic to sesame seeds. My employees had all grizzled filled chicken with 2 bones in mine, almost all dark meat ....Turn off # 3.. When we were done and the new employee was outside on her break I went back in and spoke to who I assumed was the manager, she informed me that she had to leave the other person who had only been an employee for two days alone so she could run an errand .. She did offer me my money back but didn't really seem to care what had happened at all.... even after showing her the bones... I was pretty disappointed with the whole experience.... Now I don't blame the employee, I blame the manager for leaving an employee in training at lunch time... To bad, I'll have to skip the place in the future if this same manager is on..

Thanksgiving Sandwich!!! Fresh cranberries + amazing stuffing + juicy turkey = pure goodness!

I order 2 chicken pot pies every 2 to 3 weeks to serve 8 to 9 guests at my home. Several people in my family are allergic to the hormones in meat. Custom House serves hormone free chicken. The pot pies are absolutely delicious and chock full of chicken. When you buy the family pot pie it comes with mouth watering corn bread, cranberries and two sides. We like to get the squash and add a little maple syrup. The squash is so fresh. Also, you just can't beat Yukon Gold potatoes. My favorite. We have tried all the sides and weren't disappointed by any, but the above sides are our favorites. When you consider everything included, the family pot pie is an incredible deal, and we always have left overs. My family is extremely picky due to their allergies. We love this place. Custom House is a gem!
(5)Karen S.
I want to talk about something near and dear to my heart: mashed potatoes. If you don't do mashed potatoes well, I can guarantee you I won't be back to your establishment. Perhaps it's the Irish half of me, or perhaps it's just my love of simple carbs and butter. Either way, I will judge you on your potatoes. As for Custom House Rotisserie, I would come back just to get piles and piles of their potatoes. They're buttery, fluffy, potato-y and everything you could ask for from a food that doesn't require teeth. Speaking of not requiring teeth, the pulled pork was fabulous. It comes as three sliders, each erupting with juicy, saucy pork like little Vesuviuses (Vesuvii?) spewing deliciousness. I was licking sauce off my fingers for an hour. While I was waiting for my meal to be ready, the owner gave me a big scoop of mac and cheese. That was sneaky of him, because after tasting it I had to get some to take home. It's beautifully al dente (I hate when mac and cheese is just a homogeneous mush) and seasoned beautifully. It's cheesy and creamy. I would recommend you call your order in first or be ok with waiting a few minutes for it to be ready. As the owner mentioned to me, they don't even own a microwave. Personally, that's the way I like it, and I'll gladly wait a few extra minutes for food that is fresh and made the old-fashioned way. They have a sign with the name of the farm their chicken comes from and assuring customers that it's antibiotic- and hormone-free. Not many places will so proudly and bluntly tell you where they get their food, so they get points for that for sure. Overall, the food is delicious and reasonably priced for what you get. You can easily get a full, delicious meal for under $10. The owners are super friendly and will answer any questions you have. All of this adds up to my second 5 star review in 2 days.
(5)Amber M.
My husband and I got takeout from Custom House a few weeks ago and it was really good. While I didn't go in person my husband did, and raved to me about how nice, friendly and helpful the owner and staff were to him. The chicken was DELISH and its all natural, farm raised from Murray's Farm. They have several flavors - we did the Fresh Herb & Garlic but they also have Peking and Lemon Pepper. There are lots of sides to choose from and you get yummy cornbread if you select one of the combo meals. In addition to chicken & Thanksgiving-like sides they've also got salads, sandwiches & other comfort foods such as meatloaf and pot pie. I know I am definitely going back for more chicken, and definitely want to try the pot pie and suckling pulled pork sliders! The location is a little bit off the beaten path but its right off New Derby Street so its conveniently located in Downtown. This is a great option for a quick but healthy takeout dinner option.
(4)Richard W.
Great turkey dinners.we also get the roast chicken dinners with great sides...cranberry sauce, baked beans, corn bread stuffing and gravy.makes a great dinner with no work for me!
(5)Steve K.
Food was amazing and so was the staff! My Fiance' and I had gone there for our first time based off the reviews, and they didn't let us down. This place has some great comfort food and some great people that are willing to take good care of you. I would recommend this place and will definitely go back!
(5)Holly H.
The Urban Spoon app recommended this place and was right on the money. It was a cold, windy day and hot shepherds pie was just right. The portions were super generous, the cook/owner was friendly and his recommendation of the fresh-made mac and cheese was so good I nearly licked the container clean. This was a quick walk from the Peabody-Essex museum and we'll definitely go again.
(5)THE LA G.
I was super sick with a cold when I stopped by for some carry out comfort food-turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce. Food was VERY well priced and good and filling. The chef felt bad for me so he threw in some homemade chicken soup, saying it was a "cure" for my cold. It didn't cure me, but I did feel a hellova lot better the next day!
(4)Steve F.
At this point I'm pretty certain I've had everything on the menu. My favorite is definitely the dark meat dinner. Although all the sides are good I recommend the cranberry sauce, stuffing and baked beans. The meatloaf was a huge portion, very juicy, not to oniony, and covered in gravy. Oh man, the gravy. If you are lucky enough to be in there when they are making stock for the gravy your nose will think you went to heaven. I think they had a rough/insane opening considering in was october in downtown salem. The slight inconsistency issues are 100% gone. Custom House, go there.
(5)Lori M.
Visiting from Calif, This was the best find. The food was excellent and reasonable prices. We ate here twice! During our stay in October 2011
(5)Geoff M.
Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. I read the Yelp reviews about this place months ago, but it's tucked away up Halloween alley, and I always forget about it. I happened to think of it as I was driving home on Saturday at about 4 in the afternoon, and decided it was time, even though it was a weird time to visit such a place. We walked in and it was empty, which made me a little nervous, though the two people there were extremely friendly. I got a half chicken with mashed and mac and cheese. If you like al dente, the mac was great, and he did the cheese sauce from scratch when I ordered it. The mashed potatoes were divine. The chicken was the star. I got the fresh herbs and garlic. Fresh was the truth. I turned it over to see whole rosemary, not dried. Organic, no hormone, free-range chicken just tastes better. Cornbread was great, almost cakey, but not dry. Sausage apple stuffing was a must try as well. We will make this a regular stop from now on, for sure. Note: Closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

HOLY SMOKES. i write this with still-warm gravy on my face... effective immediately, custom house is officially my new favorite take-out go-to in salem. when i woke up this morning, i didn't even know this place existed. strange days, indeed! although i'm sure the name clues you in, custom house is a rotisserie chicken restaurant, but they also have SUPER DELICIOUS pulled pork, meatloaf, and i think a few other meat options. i didn't try the flavors, but i know they have lemon pepper, peking, and herb and garlic chicken. they have chicken fingers, too. there are chicken pies and salads. you can get plates where you pick half a chicken, only white meat, or only dark meat, along with two sides, cornbread, and a drink. there are sandwiches that i'm friggin DYING to eat, and my fiance and i are pretty sure we're going for dinner tomorrow night, too. the owner says after the insanity of october in salem is over, they'll be doing gameday specials, where they'll make wings and sliders and all kinds of droolworthy foodstuffs for your party. let's not gloss over the sides, here. i've tried the green beans, butternut squash, mashed potatoes, baked beans, stuffing, mashed sweet potatoes, corn, and cranberry sauce. no, i wasn't alone. i want to fill my (clean, food-safe) bathtub with the butternut squash and make a weekend out of it. i want to cover it in their gravy for a real treat. i want to take breaks and enjoy some of their tangydelicious cranberry sauce. i don't know if my review is clear or not, but i love their sides. also, i pretty much yelled when i had my first bite of white meat and gravy. it was that good. the people behind the counter were SO FRIENDLY. it was so entirely refreshing because i feel like people are friggin grouches lately. we mentioned a friend of ours that referred us over, who has been in every day this week, and they knew who we were talking about. i love that. yes, i know they've only been open a few days, but it makes me feel cozy. i wish them the absolute best of luck, and i'm pretty sure i'll be seeing them weekly at the very least. the prices are fantastic. you get more than your money's worth. they accept credit cards. it's take out only, but they're eventually going to deliver (YAAAY! i live no more than a ten minute walk down the road, but this makes my secret inner lazy kid super happy). go go go!
(5)Susan H.
I arrived after closing (which if I had read the sign better I would have noticed) but was made so welcome. They accomadted me and not once was I made to feel like I was an imposition. They talked to me and made me feel like an old friend. After talking about all they had to offer I decided on the fresh herb and garlic chicken. Since I was late there were not many sides left but I had the corn and mashed potatoes with gravy. While I was waiting I asked about the soups of the day one of which was rubeun. I was told I had to try it and given a nice cup of soup while I waited. It was amazing soup!!!! If you like rubeuns you must try it,it was awesome! Everything I got was delicious. The chicken was moist and flavorful. The potatoes were creamy and the gravy was delicious. The cornbread is yummy and not like the cornbread I am used to. Overall my meal and experience were wonderful. I would highly recommend this resturant to amyone. With the friendliest owners around they will make you feel right at home.
(5)Jon B.
Fantastic! From the moment we walked in we felt welcome, the food was fantastic, and the owner brought us some bread pudding for free!
(5)Jeff S.
Excellent home quality food! Your mom can't even make chicken pot pie like this. For 8 bucks I got a chicken pot pie dinner, with a big pot pie, MAC n cheese which was some of the best I've ever had, and Apple stuffing which is also outstanding. The cornbread is good but not quite as buzzworthy as the rest of the meal. I could barely finish it all; there was so many different things on my plate. Low cost for top quality food and lots of it. Forget Boston market....these guys are the real deal. Highly recommended
(5)Liz W.
5 Stars just isn't enough! I LOVE this place. The food is amazing, the owner is incredibly nice, and the prices can't be beat. My boyfriend and I eat here at least once a week. It's the greatest. especially love the cornbread, the stuffing, the chicken (of course), and the thanksgiving sandwich. The owner truly cares about the customers and his food. He always has a smile on his face, and is just a great guy to talk to. I just wish they were open 24/7 so I could have it whenever I want!
(5)Sarah H.
I ordered the family meal with two sides and it was yummy! The chicken was so moist and crispy at the same time. The mash potatoes were heavenly and the mac and cheese well i will never eat kraft mac and cheese again it was so creamy and delicious it would be a crime to eat that box junk, and dont even get me started on the gravy. Neither the chicken or the mash potatoes needed it but i was soooo good i couldn't resist! They do close early however but as the employees explained to me it is a small family owed business, i can appreciate that. I will be coming here all the time!
(5)Danielle F.
Ordered delivery from here last night and what a welcome surprise! Salem is a tough delivery town, with really no choice other than pizza, and this absolutely hit the spot. Most pleasant delivery person, who happend to be the owner himself, as well as pleasant staff over the phone. The real star here is the FOOD! Obviously have rotisserie chicken that is flavorful, fresh and moist, but the sides and sandwiches are wonderful. Can you imagine mashed potatoes and mac n cheese bursting with good flavor? Excellent cornbread, and fresh whole cranberry sauce. Wow, what a gem of a find this place is. And it is more then reasonable, price wise. Chicken pot pie too, best in Salem!!!!
(5)Joe B.
I'm not sure how one could not like this place. Maybe if you don't like Thanksgiving or... America either.
(5)T L.
Nice, friendly owners. Good prices. They use fresh, organic, locally-sourced ingredients that are hormone-free. Try the delicious moist juicy piping-hit Thanksgiving sandwich on soft bread. Definitely have the gravy with it! We also had the tomato sausage soup, which was bursting with fresh vegetables and perfectly seasoned. Plus they deliver for free with $10 min purchase. Will *definitely* go back.
(5)Tina D.
Excellent bird, great corn bread and cranberry sauce too. Be cautious with the cranberry sauce, I ended up wearing some home. Good berry balancing skills will help.
(4)David A.
We ran in to Custom House while it was raining, and though all the tables were taken, the very friendly owner (Bill) cleared off their flip up counter top and made a seat for us. My wife and I both ordered the Thanksgiving sandwich and a mac and cheese, and we left with full bellies and warm souls. Awesome food, wonderful hospitality.
(5)Paloma P.
This place is a gem! High-quality food that's quick and cheap. Thank god for the Custom House. Wicked delicious, wicked friendly, and great location. Eating healthy when I'm running around crazy busy is always a challenge...But this place really helps...when I need something fast, inexpensive, and good for me....this is where I head to.
(5)Kereth C.
Delicious, affordable food from a friendly crew. Ever need comfort food? Look no further. I haven't had everything on the menu yet, but everything I've tried has been fantastic. My favorites are the garlic herb rotisserie chicken, and the meatloaf. The meatloaf is three really thick pieces--I'm usually hard pressed to finish it. They have a flavorful mushroom gravy to go with it. Their mashed potatoes and gravy (both the beef and chicken gravy) are out of this world yum, and their creamy mac and cheese is crave worthy. Still need to try a bunch of stuff--they have two other varieties of chicken, turkey, and sandwiches, none of which I've had a chance to taste. It's location isn't the best, and there isn't much room if you want to eat in, but if you want a delicious, satisfying lunch or dinner to bring home, this is the place to go. They have delivery too!
(5)Gerry L.
Excellent! Had the slow roasted turkey combo with Mac & cheese, mashed potatoes. Turkey cooked perfectly. Mac & cheese excellent. Stuffing really good. They give a piece of corn bread, more like cake but nonetheless excellent. My wife had the oriental tofu chicken soup. She said it was one of the best soups she's had. Only downfall not really a eat-in place, only 3 two person tables.
(5)Frank B.
Went here basically on the reviews on Yelp. So I suppose I don't have anything terribly new or exciting to add, so this is basically me seconding that: (a) they have phenomenally good food (b) their service is unfailingly accomodating (c) you'll be glad you got some din-dins here. I will add that their location kinda stinks. I hope it isn't too hard on their business, but they're hard to find on that alley off Derby Street. If you can get there though, you're rewarded with really delicious and home-made treats that are maybe not so healthy but are really great examples of perfect comfort food. This is not Boston Market. This is homemade, straightforward, filling, satisfying, memorable. My hat goes off to them for making a great product with little fanfare. My wife and I will be back, for sure. Glad they're in town.!
(5)A W.
Feeling like having a thanksgiving meal? Comfort food? Reminisce of sunday family dinners? Eat here and you won't be disappointed! Great choices for combos and side dishes. Our chicken dinners came with gravy, delish cornbread, and fresh tangy cranberry sauce. Next time ill try the chicken pot pie. They even have the gobbler sandwich! Food was brought to us on the patio and the owner? Came out and checked on us promptly. Not a fancy place, maybe better for take out or delivery. The owner? Thanked us , shook hands and welcomed us back.
(4)Daniel M.
Custom House Rotisserie serves Murray's Chicken. So what does that mean to you? These are family farmed, naturally raised, antibiotic-free, growth-hormone free chickens that are raised and handled humanely. I like that.... But more importantly, they taste great! I guess I don't like the idea of torturing my food before I eat it. I get great food, a great value and a clean conscience when I eat at the Custom House. The folks that work there are always friendly, the care and respect they show to their food shines through and I always leave there feeling like I just did my body a favor. GET TO THE CUSTOM HOUSE and SUPPORT A GOOD LOCAL ESTABLISHMENT.... They are ready to earn your business one meal at a time.
(5)Phil D.
OK, so I live in Salem. I heard about this place but could not find it without my GPS. The first time I went I had the lemon chicken... WOW... it was moist, juicy, hot, and it was gone in less then 5 minutes. I had the mashed potatoes, (they are real and made there), with their unbelievable gravy... If you need more, just ask. Their caesar salaid with chicken is to die for... My wife is totally hooked. After eating their more then a few times I learned that they serve the best if not one of the best burgers in the city. If you have not tried it... shame on you.
(5)Sarah F.
This place is so good! It's a bit hidden, but worth the discovery. The restaurant is tiny, adorable and clean. Not much inside seating, but I was told they will have outside seating available when the weather gets warmer. The food is quality comfort food. I highly recommend the mac n cheese as well as the mashed potatoes and gravy. They made my mac n cheese from scratch while I was there, it was delicious! Everyone who works there is incredibly friendly. Custom House Rotisserie is definitely going to be a staple in our take out routine.
(5)Brian C.
Amazingly friendly staff. The owner treats you like family. The home cooked meals are delicious. I've never had a negative experience.
(5)Amanda L.
Great homemade tasting food. Not very expensive. The owner and all the workers there are as friendly as can be. The food is amazing. New favorite restaurant in Salem. I will be returning often!
(5)Nic S.
DELICIOUS!!! My friends and I were looking for a quick bite to eat and we yelped this place. THANK GOD we did because it was so yummy! We got the pot pie and thanksgiving sandwich. It was savory, moist, & very filling! The owner and staff were so nice! He seemed to really care about his customers. Most definitely would recommend this place if you're in Salem. It's located right next to Old Burying Point Cemetery.
(5)Nicole J.
The Food: Best chicken pot pie I've ever had in my life, hands down. The boyfriend said the same thing. We've gone back again for the chicken pot pie, it was that good. We've also had pulled pork sliders, which have an enormous amount of pork for the size of the sliders. Service: Friendly, nice, fast Summary: Go there and have a chicken pot pie. You won't be disappointed.

Thanksgiving day sandwich and Roasted chicken dinners are really good. I didn't care for the stuffing alone but on the sandwich it was tasty. They deliver.
(4)M. G.
This place is awesome! Everything is homemade and tastes great. It's a little hard to find so I tell everyone I know about it. They also do delivery, which is awesome. On a couple occasions I had my whole family over and got dinners delivered and chicken pot pies. They were all amazing! Find this place and go there(or get delivery!!)
(5)Debra C.
So what is the best kept secrets in Salem, MA? Custom House Rotisserie. When I am missing home cooking and have a hankering for Thanksgiving Turkey I order form Custom House. YUMMY! Shhh don't tell anyone. Let's keep this a secret. We don't want the tourists to find out.
(5)Joann M.
105 degrees out.... whats for dinner.... chicken pot pie with cornbread and cranberry sauce... to DIE FOR... but you have to allow them an hour to make it from scratch and bake it... OK... works for me... ordered before I left work $17 fed 4 people.... would not hesitate to go back... clean, friendly, great prices...
(5)Mark A.
The chicken is amazing!!!!! Great rotisserie chicken! I ordered the 1/4 chicken meal for lunch and was bullsh%t at myself for not ordering the 1/2 meal or maybe even a whole chicken. You get a choice of 2 sides, I got the mashed potatoes(AMAZING) and carrots(AMAZING). Did i mention the con bread is delicious too? well it is, deal with it. They have a great menu with sandwiches, burgers and other meals. Including family meals for cheap. I also got a pulled pork sandwich from here a few months ago, not too shabby. Only thing that bums me out about this place is they are only open wednesday thru sunday. They also doo catering. Price is decent too. Get Into It!!!!
(4)Stephanie T.
This is our definitely our go to place when we can't decide what to get for dinner. At this point the people inside recognize me and are more than willing to accommodate my every desire (and with a smile!). The food is all home-made, delicious, fresh... what everyone else says. If you want a great home cooked meal without having to slave in the kitchen this place is fantastic. I cannot compliment them enough on the service, truly above and beyond the service I have received anywhere in a long time. You just cannot go wrong.
(5)Carl V.
We just tried our first chicken pot pie from Custom House Rotisserie, and I have never tasted anything quite this good. On this cold, rainy night, it is the perfect warm comfort food. OMG! This is the best pot pie ever. And the chef wouldn't let my wife carry the pie to the car--he brought it out for her. This is just the first of many for us. This place is a gem.
(5)brenda s.
Ditto on all other reviews. So glad there's a new take-out in town with homemade food. Other reviewers mentioned that the location is a problem, but there's plenty of nearby parking, and I'll certainly walk a few steps for this food. Sure hope they make it. Spread the word!
(5)M. A.
Great, great great little place. The owner is genuinely friendly and loves what he's doing, the food is fantastic, and the prices are reasonable. What else do i need to say?

DELICIOUS FOOD!!!! I had the ground sirloin, the best cornbread, perfectly cooked, fresh green beans and homemade cranberry sauce. The owner was friendly and very attentive. My friends had the homemade chicken pot pie and they couldn't stop raving about it! Highly recommend this place!!!!!
(5)Robert C.
Great food! Had the turkey dinner...meat was very tender! Almost 5 stars, but need more seating.

(2)Lars D.

Ba bye.

Looking forward to going back ... soon!

(5)Traci K.

(5)Jeffrey A.
Just about the slowest service I've ever experienced. Seems like the place would be quick, but waited half an hour for 2 sandwiches. On the other hand, the rotisserie chicken sandwiches were REALLY good - moist, flavorful - and the fries were outstanding.
(3)Jake W.
(5)Liz S.

(5)Heather R.
(5)Cindy K.
(4)R P.

(5)K O.

Food was amazing and so was the staff! My Fiance' and I had gone there for our first time based off the reviews, and they didn't let us down. This place has some great comfort food and some great people that are willing to take good care of you. I would recommend this place and will definitely go back!

HOLY SMOKES. i write this with still-warm gravy on my face... effective immediately, custom house is officially my new favorite take-out go-to in salem. when i woke up this morning, i didn't even know this place existed. strange days, indeed! although i'm sure the name clues you in, custom house is a rotisserie chicken restaurant, but they also have SUPER DELICIOUS pulled pork, meatloaf, and i think a few other meat options. i didn't try the flavors, but i know they have lemon pepper, peking, and herb and garlic chicken. they have chicken fingers, too. there are chicken pies and salads. you can get plates where you pick half a chicken, only white meat, or only dark meat, along with two sides, cornbread, and a drink. there are sandwiches that i'm friggin DYING to eat, and my fiance and i are pretty sure we're going for dinner tomorrow night, too. the owner says after the insanity of october in salem is over, they'll be doing gameday specials, where they'll make wings and sliders and all kinds of droolworthy foodstuffs for your party. let's not gloss over the sides, here. i've tried the green beans, butternut squash, mashed potatoes, baked beans, stuffing, mashed sweet potatoes, corn, and cranberry sauce. no, i wasn't alone. i want to fill my (clean, food-safe) bathtub with the butternut squash and make a weekend out of it. i want to cover it in their gravy for a real treat. i want to take breaks and enjoy some of their tangydelicious cranberry sauce. i don't know if my review is clear or not, but i love their sides. also, i pretty much yelled when i had my first bite of white meat and gravy. it was that good. the people behind the counter were SO FRIENDLY. it was so entirely refreshing because i feel like people are friggin grouches lately. we mentioned a friend of ours that referred us over, who has been in every day this week, and they knew who we were talking about. i love that. yes, i know they've only been open a few days, but it makes me feel cozy. i wish them the absolute best of luck, and i'm pretty sure i'll be seeing them weekly at the very least. the prices are fantastic. you get more than your money's worth. they accept credit cards. it's take out only, but they're eventually going to deliver (YAAAY! i live no more than a ten minute walk down the road, but this makes my secret inner lazy kid super happy). go go go!

Fantastic! From the moment we walked in we felt welcome, the food was fantastic, and the owner brought us some bread pudding for free!

Visiting from Calif, This was the best find. The food was excellent and reasonable prices. We ate here twice! During our stay in October 2011

Amazingly friendly staff. The owner treats you like family. The home cooked meals are delicious. I've never had a negative experience.

Great homemade tasting food. Not very expensive. The owner and all the workers there are as friendly as can be. The food is amazing. New favorite restaurant in Salem. I will be returning often!
