Having only been once, I can't comment too much on their product. I felt inclined to write a review more so because a lot of my friends go here when they come and visit me! It's a great meeting spot when touring the city with large groups of friends and have a crazy selection of smoothies!

I got the Fool and it was good. I love this place, quick delicious vegan food, great smoothies and Latte's -- what a great find. I'm sure to make this my go to place when in the area. YUMMY

This is my new favorite every day place to eat lunch or dinner in Salem. Since it opened a few weeks ago, we've been here 4 times, and I've loved everything I've had. I'm a vegetarian, and also am doing weight watchers, and this is the perfect place to get a hearty veg meal that's WW friendly. I had never tried Kombucha until I came here, but now I'm hooked on their ginger Kombucha on tap. Hubby is a fan of their wraps, and also a sucker for their peanut butter banana smoothie. I always come out of here full and happy. Prices are super reasonable too! I'm so glad Life Alive opened in Salem!

I'm not sure what has happened to the Salem location because the Central Square location is totally on point, but here's my review: I used to come here once a week. They have filling veggie-based bowls (though the tasty sauces make the real difference in flavor) at a reasonable price point. The staff seemed genuinely friendly and eager to provide good service, making it a pleasure to grab my meals here. In the last few months, however, the service seems to have declined. The last three times that I've ordered, they have got my order wrong--forgetting the add-on I paid for and/or forgetting to put sauce in the bowl, and the general vibe is markedly less friendly and less customer oriented. Each time I've noted the error there has been a stoic and barely sincere "sorry" without much acknowledgement of the error. It is almost like the guy at the register isn't surprised by the mistake. I'm not sure what has lead to this decline in service. Was there a staff turnover? Has everyone been in training for the past three months? In any case, I'm giving it two stars because it does the basic veggie thing and this used to be a favorite cafe, but other "fast food vegetarian" joints are entering the market--and consistently providing better, error-free service. One error is a mistake, but three random orders in a row is a problem with the either the training, the management, or the staff. Perhaps this place is fine for dine-in, where you can easily adjust an incorrect order. But I'm tired of driving back to Life Alive each time I get take out to have the sauce put on, or having to dig through my To Go bag before leaving to find that, yes, I do need to ask for that side of avocado I just paid for. I'm disappointed with the decline in service, so I'm taking my business elsewhere.

I'm not a vegetarian, let alone a vegan, but I was very impressed by this place. It's like Cafe Gratitude (pardon the west coast reference) but without the pretentious servers, the even-more-pretentious patrons, the ridiculous dish names, and the even-more-ridiculous prices. (Okay, it's really nothing like CG at all, but we non-vegetarians tend to lump vegetarian restaurants into on category.) (Also, to be fair, Life Alive isn't vegan; they do have a few dishes with eggs and dairy.) Seriously, though, this is a beautiful and welcoming (and large) space, with friendly, helpful staff, and a very intriguing and creative menu.

New staff hirings and training which has slowed down serving and food prep but still outstanding in taste. They've also added coffee-hot and iced. DELICIOUS! Bold and hits hard. I recommend only one. It's brewed right in front of you and steeps as its designed too. Their prices still remain unchanged eventhough the costs are higher. They listen to their customers and try hard to please and inform. Best around

Just had the Goddess bowl. Didn't think I would like it when I saw how lightly cooked the carrots and beets were. Loved it. I will definitely make a return visit.

We come here often. Love it here. Love the Green Goddess, so good. Brought the in-laws here the day before the wedding. Brother in law and father in law both enjoyed it.

When traipsing around Salem do your vegan friends say, "Miso hungry?" Do they shy away from places like Scratch where everything is infused with bacon or pork fat? This is the place to take them for a meal. If you're going to be a supportive friend (or attempt to score with a lovely vegan) order up one of the many bowl or burrito options on the menu and wash it down with a tea. If Kombucha is your thing, they've got it on tap. All the beverages but teas are served in mason jars, which brings me back to being just out of college. My tea was served up in a black cast iron pot and piping hot. My large bowl of food was really good, even if it was vegan! the portion size was just right. I really enjoyed the warm colors of the walls and the rustic wood furniture. In the far back they have a bunch of couches and small intimate tables surrounded by book shelves. The atmosphere is great and staff friendly. The prices are a little on the high side. Wifi is free for 2 hours with a code.

Finally made a trip to check out Life Alive after hearing so many good things. We came in for smoothies. There were many choices. We had the Coconut Alive and the Lust Alive. Both were delicious (served in cute Ball jars) and gone within 5 minutes. Prices seemed reasonable for the quality of ingredients ($6 for a smoothie). Great atmosphere, plenty of seating, the take the LevelUp (convenient), and they plan on having beer and wine soon. The menu sounded delicious so we will be back to try some of the noodle dishes, salads and soups.

Awesome food! The price is kind of high for Salem, but the quality of the food is amazing. Great flavors, nice customer service. I will definitely go back.

I love this place, and frequent it often. It is rather pricey if you want to add items to your warm bowl but the food is fresh and healthy so I feel it's worth it. Service is fine, have never had a problem with service in general. So here's my gripe...... They never put enough sauce in the warm bowl and so I have to order extra, at an extra charge... still not an issue. However every time I get my order although it says xtra on the box, there is barely any dressing. I thought I would beat them at this game by asking for it on the side. Well half the time, they would say they put it in the warm bowl but did not and the other half the time, they would give me the container of extra sauce but there was absolutely nothing in the warm bowl. Now I'm not sure why they are having such a hard time parting with this sauce, even though I pay for it every time, but I'm anxious to know if there are 14k gold flakes in it or if they've procured it from the fountain of youth. I wish they would just bottle the darn sauce and I would buy it, so then I would have xtra sauce when I need it. They did this again today, so I will give them one more shot and if it happens again, I'm done. It really shouldn't be that big of a deal, they are charging $1.00 for about a tablespoon of dressing.

DELICIOUS. HEALTHY. FRESH. Life Alive is the kitchen of my dreams. I wish I could eat like this every day! Make this your go-to lunch spot on Essex street. I always order the Adventurer Bowl and the delicious Carrot Cake Smoothie, but you really can't go wrong with any of the dishes. So many choices for gluten-free folks and vegans! Rejoice!

Thank you, Yelpers, for helping me find my new favorite place to eat! Everything receives 5 stars! Slightly overwhelmed by the delicious choices on the menu, I had a very distinct feeling that it would be impossible to make a bad choice. In the longest heatwave that New England has had in decades, I wanted to opt for something refreshing, cleansing and vital. I'm pretty sure I've had one too many burger and hotdogs this summer. And, it's time to clean up. I was overall amazed by the the restaurant. Just by walking through the glass doors, I knew that this was going to be a revitalizing experience. My fiance chose "The Fool" under warm meals. Sharing is caring and I had a few bites. The udon noodles were tender, topping included shitake mushrooms, shredded carrots, bits of kale, tofu cubes and sesame seeds flavored by a sesame ginger dressing. (For the record, my mouth just watered.) As for myself, I can be quite decisive when it comes to too many great things. After asking the nice staff between The Seeker (their most popular dish) and the Warrior, he helped me distinguish the flavor profiles and what I was after. So polite and helpful, I opted for the Warrior Salad, which was hummus over tofu, peppitas, carrots and spring greens with a sesame miso dressing. (Again, mouth cannot stop watering.) We chose the Vibrance smoothie, and it was downright delicious. Ginger, lemon, strawberry, date, banana, and maple syrup. Would who ever have thought to add maple syrup to their drink? After a few short minutes, they deliver these incredible dishes to your table. The fresh aroma is astounding. The flavors melded together so gracefully. This is what my body has been craving! The smoothie... I can't even say. Just bring me another! Everything is eco-friendly. The staff is friendly. The energy is of this place is renewed. There is something about this place that restores my faith in good food that comes out of the ground. It is not meant to be a side salad to a steak. I love the green as the main meal. I can't wait to return. I want to try every piece of the menu. I just can't have enough! Here's a word that I don't get to use very often: Integrity. This place has it.

Eat here now. Your taste buds will grow full of "life" and once you've gobbled down an awesome bowl/wrap you will most certainly feel "alive." I will admit that I'm pretty darn smitten on the "THE REBEL" and while I've had plenty of their smoothies, I've not wandered far from this one dish on the food menu. Eat here now. You will not be disappointed.

On a hot day walking around Salem I was tempted to get ice cream for lunch. But I'm trying to make healthier choices...so I remembered a friend talking about Life Alive. I entered to a beautiful organic oasis full of hippies with dreadlocks and smiles so sincere I felt like Jennifer Aniston in Wanderlust... The staff was lovely, the kale, almond milk smoothie really was delicious and I felt awesome afterwards. I felt energized and full and glad that I'd given my body so many good nutrients instead of sugar for a meal. I can't wait to go back and try more!

My last experience was unfortunately mediocre. The delicious, vegetable-ly flavors were a bit washed out and my Bachelor wrap was very light on broccoli. My brother-in-law got a wrap as well and there was still a ton of water in his vegetables which ultimately ruined his lunch. Crossing my finger that this was an isolated experience.

I am about as far from a Vegan as you can get, without being some sort of African lion, but man... this is some good tasting healthy vegan food. I have no idea how they combine these grains and fresh veggies together to create such tasty dishes. Check it out if you are in the neighborhood - you will be happy you did.

Stopped here while in Salem on business and despite not being a vegetarian I found this food delicious, fresh and inviting. I admit, walking in and being handed a menu it's overwhelming, the menus is so over written that its tough to decipher the differences of what's offered. It's bright and colorful if not a bit too hipster ish, but overall it was a good experience and I'd go back again. Yes I really enjoyed my meal but I did miss a nice piece of chicken in that salad.n the hummus was fantastic. Looking forward to coming back, will try the wrap with an egg in it next time.

I met a friend for lunch here and had a roll-up ("The Lover"), some lentil hummus and chai tea. Everything was amazingly delicious -- incredibly flavorful and savory. I love the ambience - it's funky, clean, creative and friendly. I'm not a vegetarian and don't have a lot of interest in the usual vegetarian offerings, but I could eat here everyday.

DELICIOUS! Stopped in this past weekend with a group of friends for a mid afternoon lunch. The foods at this place is crazy good! I had The Fool, which was just so flavorful and full of great combination of veggies. Friends had the Goddess, which was yummy, and The Romantic, which was a knockout broccoli wrap. Trying to figure out when I can get back for more!

Expensive? Oh yea. Delicious? I can't say I've had anything here besides the drinks and a kiddie quesadilla (avocado and brocoli mmmmn), but I have yet to be disappointed with an order. Absolutely fabulous every time. Warm weather brings me to their smoothie and juice section and I absolutely love their choices. Spring Alive with an aloe or flax seed boost is my go-to order, but they all sound pretty tasty. Cold weather has me grasping a warm vanilla hemp latte with a maca boost (the maca being recommended to me by the cashier after talking to me about what I was looking for. What a sweetheart :D). I'd try some of the other latte's but I can't stop ordering this one lol 4 stars only because even as I drink my beverage, my wallet whimpers a bit. Anytime I'm in the area, I'm drawn to place an order at Life Alive. Can't wait to sit down and try more of the food sometime! Dancing passion hot sauce ftw. Tweaks for currency: They're all good. All the meals. Eat them all. My top 3 dishes are The Emperor, The Innocent w/Avo and The Swami (cranberries instead of raisins, udon noodles instead of brown rice). Loco Coco for life. If you're new and want to eat in, you order at the register first, take a number, then the staff brings everything to your seat. Self-serve water, free WiFi and healthy, organic choices. I'm all about it. I'm also all about that Crispin :D

in my book, nobody is perfect, but these guys come really close. Soooo, glad that they have a location in Cambridge as we're moving there in June and could easily eat here 2-3x a week. The hubby is a die-hard meat eater, but he LOVED the udon bowl and I had The Emperor bowl and was glad I ordered the demi (at under $6) because I was stuffed. Hubby was ecstatic to be able to get a beer (local) and I had the Simple Alive and it was delish and food is fast. Forgot to mention the Dancing Passion Hot Sauce - I could drink that stuff.

I LOVE Life Alive! I live out of town and this place was recommended to me by friends while visiting Salem. I am vegan and finding healthy delicious food options in the area can be challenging. I had the Green Goddess demi-plate which was warm, filling, and delicious. Warning - this dish has lots of garlic so if you're eating this on a date, bring some gum or a toothbrush! I also had a jug of their homemade ginger kombucha which was light and effervescent. Much better than any pre-bottled kombucha I've ever had! They had 5 or 6 kombucha flavors on tap and offered to make me a personalized mix. I love ginger and opted for a single flavor, but maybe I'll be more adventurous next time. If you want to be healthy and still eat amazing food, please give this place a try! Both veggies and omnivores alike will enjoy the food here. I will definitely be back!

The food in this place gets 5 stars (loved the adventurer) but talk about your rude staff and bad attitude. If it was possible to earn a negative rating, they'd get one. Their walls are covered with "socially responsible" marketing material about social consciousness, love, sharing and equality, but when, oh, I don't know, it comes to treating their customers with respect and decency, they get an epic fail. I suppose they are too busy coming up with innovative, carbon-neutral ways to use left-handed collectives in third world countries to save the wooly unicorn that they cant be bothered to not slam food down on the table when they're serving you. Going forward, I'll take my business to a restaurant that spends more time trying to please its customers and less trying to save the whales.

had a half bowl, was delicious when I put condiments on it, otherwise plain. The free water tasted funny but maybe the dispenser needed to be cleaned? Bathroom might need a little attention but otherwise another great experience

I want to give this place a good review because it is one of the few vegan places around and the food is great IF they have anything in. The majority of the times I go or friends, they are out of something. They rarely have all the pieces of the recipes to actually make what you want. Avocados, tofu, beans......they have been out of it all. Parking isn't that great and place is not that clean.

This place is awesome, and judging by the number of people here, it's also quite popular (as it should be!). Their menu is pretty basic but wonderful: salads, wraps, and bowls with what I can only describe as "scrambles" despite being vegan. I tried a few of the bowls, which were all great. They had a grain as the base (quinoa, rice, or noodles), then a bunch of veggies, then a sauce that brought it all together. Nothing I tried was bad! My favorite was, I think, the green goddess followed by the alchemist. But, like I said, everything was great. And so healthy too! Although considering how fast I was wolfing down the food, it was the awesome TASTY kind of healthy. They also have a juice and smoothie bar, so you can get your fix of vegetables and fruits like that as well. The juices I tried were all fun and delicious. The best was actually one that had apple cider vinegar in it - kind of a strange addition, but it definitely felt "cleansing" as I drank it. SO glad I found this place!!! It was so good I actually ate there for dinner one night, then returned the following day for lunch. My only complaint is that I don't live close enough to go back anytime soon! But HIGHLY recommended for anyone in the area!

A vegetarian and non vegetarian walked in and both walked out highly satisfied. The food was as promised, was organic, fresh, and delicious. The staff was friendly and helpful and overall superb. The atmosphere was pleasant and artistic. Details both in the food and environment were well thought out. Man you had enough diversity to satisfy various tastes. Price was very reasonable for the quality of food.

At first glance the menu appears boring. It looks like the same old crap with only slight variations.I wish they did more to show you this is far from true! Like giving out free samples, a sampler appetizer,pictures....I'm not sure. Ask the staff for suggestions or a random person in the restaurant. Just go crazy and start ordering stuff! It's seriously way more awesome than they make it seem from the first glance. I've tried 6 different dishes from the menu. All amazing. I refuse to get any other beverage but the coco loco latte, because it's the best tasting thing I've ever put in my mouth. I like the atmosphere of this place. Has comfy couchy cushions.Lots of meter parking near by as long as it's not October. The top is wrong they do serve alcohol.Think it's just beer and wine. Seriously I'm the toughest critic ever. I hate everything.

Let's get this out of the way: I am not a vegan. I'm not even a vegetarian. I just love me some good food, and that's exactly what you'll find if you decide to visit Life Alive in downtown Salem. Prior to my first visit, I was skeptical. This looked like the sort of place where I would never choose to eat. That all changed when my vegan friend made me go there for dinner with her one night. The Emperor bowl? Unbelievable. You can tell that they use high-quality ingredients and that they really care about what they put into their customer's mouths. I've gone back a few times since that fateful day, and I have no intention to stop any time soon.

I am not a vegetarian but after my first dining experience at Life Alive, I seriously considered becoming one. Well, at least until dinner when I ordered a rib eye steak but prior to that, there was a good 4 hours of serious vegan reflection going on. I consider this to be one of the best indicators of exactly how good Life Alive is. First, I was happy to see the nice job they did redecorating the space after the previous business, Coven, got the boot. I imagine there had to be some serious sage smudging to rid the place of the residual negative energy that the former surly employees of Coven must have left behind. But even sans sage, it would not take long for the sunny, friendly and welcoming demeanor of Life Alive employees to persevere and eradicate the bad taste that Coven left in my mouth, despite their once delightful baked goods. Because I am keeping it real, I have to admit that when I walked by the location and saw a sign indicating that an Organic Vegetarian cafe would be opening soon, I rolled my eyes. Salem has its fair share of neo-hippies (it's part of the town's charm) but I questioned the wisdom of bringing together carefree neo-hippies and crunchy, righteous vegans into one congregation. Surely at worst, a turf war would ensue and at best the cult-y clientele would keep away the general population, resulting in another short-lived business like Coven. But I have visited Life Alive twice (oh and since I am still keeping it real, I have to admit that I think this is a really stupid name for a restaurant. I always feel like I am going to dine at a pro-life demonstration) and have been really delighted each time. Sure, the menu can be a little intimidating if you aren't familiar with the less mainstream health foods but the staff is so helpful and although I was keenly keeping an eye out for it, not judgmental at all. There was no smug superiority when I asked what kombucha was. Instead they happily explained (it's a fermented tea that their supplier makes from mushrooms) and then offered us a sample. Guess what! I love kombucha! It's very refreshing, especially since it was pushing 100 degrees outside. Both times I've visited, I've ordered a salad and my husband has ordered one of their warm meals. The produce is absolutely out of this world and dressed with things like ginger nama shoyu sauce and amazing hummus only elevates it. The warm dishes combine things like quinoa, brown rice, sprouted legumes and various vegetables into combinations that are delicious enough to make you forget about meat all together. The fact that they offer all of their dishes in full or demi size (or in a wrap) is also a great convenience. Each time I have gotten the demi portions and though I devour each delicious bite with relish, upon completion I find myself in that elusive state of feeling completely satisfied but not stuffed. In fact, I leave with a certain spring in my step - a condition brought about by the food, the staff and knowing that I now have another reason to love living in Salem - besides the neo-hippies.

The food is like crack. The sauces are delicious usually savory and sometimes spicy. The dishes are the right amount of crunchy toppings to steamy veggies and grains. I wish I could figure the sauces out so I could make them at home. Actually, I wish I could just afford going everyday!! Smoothies are great too but a tad overpriced since they cost about the same as a "Demi" plate of food! Even my 1 year old loves the food!...too bad I can't get my "meat & potatoes" boyfriend to come and try out.

This review is so overdue it's not even funny... but after the other day, I have to sit down and love on these guys. I got a call from my daughter's school that one of the kids had a severe tree nut allergy (they had told me prior it was just to peanuts...) and that they couldn't keep her nutty gluten free, vegan meal in the classroom. Great. I was at work and called over to my buds at L a L. Val was happy to help me figure this out, and with great speed! I ordered 2 custom demi's that I knew the 4 year old would eat and they delivered it right to her at school! Saved my butt! I've been frequenting this restaurant for many years (well, the one in Lowell, then Cambridge) and it's my experience that they are great with allergy consciousness. Val knew what precautions to take to handle a nut allergy and I could trust her. Big ups, life alive! Thanks for being so sweet to us! xoxo

Wow, for a vegan this is as good as it gets. Food selections and quality were excellent, prices very good & staff amazing. Can't believe such a great vegan restaurant in Salem Mass! Vegan or not, if you're a fan of healthy food, you need to try this place. Can you open one back home in San Diego?

I was pretty skeptical when I saw an "Urban Oasis" going in on Essex Street. I am a health-conscious omnivore, but the branding and atmosphere feel a little contrived. Not to mention the place smells vaguely unpleasant, the names of the menu items are trite in crunchy-hippie way, and the menu is printed in a Papyrus font lookalike. I was fully prepared to ignore Life Alive when they came to Salem. But I've just mentioned all the faults I can find in the restaurant. The food is out of this world -- five stars for flavor! The pricing is cheap (!!) for fresh, real food -- five stars for value! The staff seem down to earth and happy to be working at Life Alive -- five stars for friendliness! The truth is, in the two weeks after I first tried Life Alive, I think there was only a day or two that I didn't stop by for lunch or a delicious juice or smoothie. I am thrilled to have access to fast, delicious, wholesome, community-conscious food choices in Salem. Investors: this is a winning combination! For lunch, try a demi portion of the Swami or Rebel with a fresh kombucha (I like the ginger flavor). Life Alive's juices also make a terrific snack. My favorite is the Jive Alive -- tangy, energizing, leaves me feeling clean and great!

I'm Salem born and bred and when I come home to visit I tend to go to our usual haunts. Well, my husband convinced me to try Life Alive one evening for dinner and we loved it so much that we went back the next morning for breakfast. The smoothies were really good and our dinners were delicious. The next morning the same staff member that had waited on us the evening before convinced my husband to have a noodle vegetable dish for breakfast which he loved! I got the granola, very delicious, but such a large amount that we took the leftovers and my husband ate the rest over the next two days. A half portion at half the price would have been fine. And the Best Peanut Butter Cup in the World? It really is! I wish I had one right now!

When I lived in Lowell this was one of my favorite restaurants to go to. I'm super happy they're now in Salem!! The food is great - super fresh and tasty. My fiancé also likes here because it tastes like "real food" which is a huge bonus. I find the staff here friendlier than the Lowell location and the service is faster here than in Lowell or Cambridge. It's also super open and brightly lit. The only downside is they do not have as many products for sale as the Lowell location. I also wish they had a liquor license like the Cambridge one. But, I know liquor licenses (full ones) are difficult to get in Salem so hopefully they'll be able to get one soon! *fingers crossed* My favorite dish is the Swami and I'm totally digging the Superhero Alive juice. Now that they're in Salem I will definitely have a hard time staying away!!

The heart goes pitter pat just at the thought of returning for another delicious and healthy meal. First I took my architect, then my daughter-both loved it. The staff is so friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable that I bask in their knowledgeable attention as I make food choices and the colorful interior can't help but make your day more vibrant. I asked for coffee which they don't (settle to) sell but in it's stead have the most delicious teas. I highly recommend the elderberry, such a pleasant break from my samo coffee habit; I mean who wants coffee then such an interesting beverage is offered in its stead. Their mission seems to be a totally inviting and scrumptious less traveled path.

I absolutely love this place . Organic , fresh , beautiful food . Have been here many times and always have had a great experience . Everyone that works there is super friendly and the food is just amazing . I went over the weekend and got " The Adventurer " Demi portion and a " Be Alive" fresh squeezed vegetable juice . Delicious , just the right amount of food and you leave feeling amazing . I have been to their Lowell location as well , and all I can say is wish I could eat here every day !!!

I wish I lived in Salem so I could pillage every lentil and legume that this place has to offer. I had a Swami bowl and, well, it was nothing short of awesome. Surprisingly hearty too, I thought I could house any plate of veggies put in front of me and I must admit I left about a fifth of it in the bowl. Really excited to try some of the other combinations they have on their list. I would say the only quirky thing about the experience was the juice that I got, it was really tasty when you sipped it but when I exhaled afterwards I got this really weird, sharp odor in the back of my nose. Reminded me of wet leaves or something. Not a huge deal, probably from the combination of veggies and fruits that were in the juice.

Hubs and I had to go to a wedding in the Boston area this summer and got to spend some quality time in one of my favorite cities, Salem, MA. We yelped and happy cowed and found Life Alive. This place is a Mecca for vegans and vegetarians. Many of the staff are vegan, so they completely helped with picking the best options. You can get wraps, bowls, and plates of delicious food. We seriously could eat there breakfast, lunch and dinner. The teas are delicious and we even met a fellow NJ-ite who expressed her Life Alive addicition while we waiting in the lobby for for the door to open promptly at 11 AM ( that being are second Life Alive meal of the trip.) Go Go Go to Salem and try Life Alive. So worth the price of gas...yep...it's that good! And the vegan german chocolate cake cookies....I am still dreaming of them.

Service was amazing and friendly throughout our entire visit. We love the vegan diet and were very impressed - especially since almost everything is soy free. Soy free is hard to find in a vegetarian restaurant. The demi bowl was plenty to eat for me, and my husband ordered a wrap. We both got a juice to drink (extremely well made), enjoyed some alkaline water (free), and had some coffee afterwards (a-ma-zing). Well done. Just well done.

YES! I'm not a vegetarian but this was incredibly satisfying and absolutely delicious. The problem is deciding WHAT TO GET! I've now got a frequent buyer card kinda thing so I'll be getting my freebie after a few more wraps or meals!

I am definitely not a vegetarian and usually like to have some sort of meat in most meals but the delicious dishes here leave me very full and satisfied. I love that they have a demi size and regular option for their menu items (the demi being a perfect portion size for lunch). They serve speedy well-priced vegetarian salads, wraps, and warm dishes with fresh and mostly organic ingredients. Top that off with very flavorful (some can be rather garlicky) sauces like curry miso, lemon garlic, etc. Recommend warm dishes: The Adventurer, The Goddess, and The Swami I wasn't the biggest fan of the Kombucha drink though which is some sort of fermented tea that's supposed to be detoxifying. The sourness didn't help me get over the yeast-y nature of the drink, but all the other smoothies sound great, just a little pricey. I love the zen-like atmosphere and comfortable seating. This place may seem a little hippy but the food is amazing and healthy. The staff is also very friendly - servers are excited about the food and are willing to explain to you the flavors and ingredients of each item on their menu. Also love that they have a location in Central Square.

I adore this place. Homemade kombucha, healthy sandwiches, salads and the tastiest raw chocolate ever. Well done, Life Alive. The decor is neat, too, with rustic wood lacquer tables and a reading/game area in the back. Nice color scheme, quite welcoming- this place is leaps and bounds above the previous business, Coven which was a little dim, dingy and inconsistent with their menu. The staff is ultra-friendly as well, they always seemed psyched to see me when I come by. I hope this place sticks around for a long time. Brava.

I'm very impressed with this new place. I've been twice with a group of people (total of 8 dinners- all different) and everyone loved their meal. Everything is across the board good. Good prices, service, atmosphere, flavors etc... I do want to make one little warning. If you are going here on a date or hope to have some romantic moment in the near future, DO NOT get any of the items that have the garlic sauce. Hoooeeee they are not messing around. I love garlic but I suspect that no amount of brushing will render me kissable due to tonight's potent dinner.

Fresh, healthy and thoughtful dishes that offer a balance of flavor and textures. My go-to dish is the Adventurer, doused with a healthy helping of dancing fire sauce. Smoothies and juices are tasty, but a bit pricey. Love that they offer things like "tea special of the day." You feel refreshed and energized after a meal here!

Indulge in healthy food options including noodles, soups, wraps, sandwiches, juice bar, smoothies and lots more. Today we ordered a Vegetarian Red Lentil Hummus Wrap and Udon Miso Noodle Bowl. Excellent presentation and very tasty. Decently priced $25 included a fresh squeezed juice, organic bottled tea and tax. lifealive.com 978-594-4644 281 Essex Street Salem

See my tip, it is OK. Ok it is fresh. But, OK, it all looks the same. The menu is hard to read and understand...is it just me, or do all the salads look exactly the same? The countless menu titles are all too similar. I might try a smoothy or juice next time. LOVE, the comic book store across the street!

On one of my semi-regular trips to Salem, I decided to try someplace new for lunch- and I'm SO glad I did! Salem's got a lot of dining options, so I asked some locals where their favorite place was- Life Alive got mentioned frequently. On entering, I fell in love with the simply decorated space- lots of natural light and pretty wood tables. The fellow who took my order was very nice and attentive, and didn't rush me when I needed a couple of minutes to look over their big, wall-mounted menu, also answered a couple of ingredient questions I had. As a lifelong vegetarian, I'm used to making do with whatever is available when dining out (more plates of bland pasta than I could count) but here I had a whole menu to choose from. It was seriously hard to decide (it all looked so good,) but I went with the Green Goddess bowl and a bottle of Prometheus Springs (sort of like a spicy lemonade- better than it sounds.) It was a bowl of bliss: all kinds of wonderful flavors and textures contrasting and harmonizing, with fresh greens and sprouted legumes and a killer sauce, topped with slices of perfectly ripe avocado. It was satisfying without making me feel stuffed- I felt energized for the rest of the day. I will definitely be back, and am excited to bring my hubby along next time- he loves his steaks, but this is vegetarian food so good, it just might convert him!

When I first walked in the door I was greeted by a very friendly staff and a restaurant that takes being environmentally friendly seriously. All the artwork appeared to be from recycled goods, the glasses that are used are mason jars, and they urge people to separate their trash into compost and recycling. The menu is very extensive with a wide variety of hot and cold dishes as well as smoothies. The food and smoothies were outstanding, using only natural ingredients. For the health conscious or curious passerby, Life Alive will definitely be a treat.

We're from California and we were thrilled to find this restaurant back East. We ate at the Salem location one of their amazing salads and The Goddess signature dish. We loved the flavors of the food, the organic produce, inspiring sayings on the walls, and the friendly staff. If we lived in Massachusetts, this place would definitely be a regular for us. We're vegans and would have preferred not to see the egg and cheese options on their menu. Maybe Life Alive just hasn't done the proper research on how unhealthy cow's milk is on the human body (organic or not), and of course, common sense tells us how UNNATURAL it is for humans to drink. Dr. T. Colin Campbell's research proves casein causes cancer. Cow's milk is Nature's Perfect Food....but only if you're a calf. See movie FORKS OVER KNIVES

I always feel healthier after eating here. My favorite smoothie: carrot cake alive. It tastes like carrot cake, but healthy. My favorite meal: I can't choose! I've had a few and they are all delicious. Sure, it's a bit expensive, but the ingredients are of noticeable quality and it's worth it for the occasional treat!

Wonderful, healthy, clean food! I went here recently with my sister while visiting Salem. I ordered the Green Goddess Bowl and it was amazing. Loaded bowl of brown rice, kale, broccoli, avocado, tofu (added item) and a savory ginger nama shoyu sauce. I paired it with a cranberry kombucha. Very reminiscent of the bowls I used to enjoy at Cafe Gratitude. The space was beautiful and comfortable with old wooden benches and tables. The staff was really friendly and our food came out super fast. Big smoothie and fresh juice selection. Looking forward to trying more of their bowls, wraps and salads. It's a little pricey, but definitely worth it.

I have been here twice now. I keep wanting to go back! And I love me some meat but this place fills you up and makes you feel so healthy while at it. The first time I went- I got one of the smoothies (can't remember the name but OMG So good!) and the green goddess. The 2nd time I got the healthy bachelor. Both times I feel kind of embarassed by the name but yummmmmm. Give it a try. I don't know if they have the beer and wine license yet! The first time I was there for dinner they didn't. The 2nd time I went I didn't ask because I was on lunch break.

Awesome new vegetarian spot in Salem! Everything was delicious and the place is super cute. I had the alchemist Demi. Delicious! I come here from NYC once a year and this is surely going to be a must stop spot from now on.

I'm not really a vegetarian but I try to eat less meat than I used to to try and be a bit healthier. Life Alive makes tasty vegetarian meals that are satisfying (vegetarian and satisfying don't always go together). I love their rice bowls, especially the Swami. And they have great smoothies. My favorites are The Elvis (chocolate, banana and peanut butter) and the Carrot Cake (I can actually taste the "cream cheese"). I feel like I'm being healthier when I eat there but still satisfying my urge to dine out.

let me start by saying that the food at lifes alive is very good. we have been eating here since it opened and have sent countless people from our business life and personal life here to eat. my husband places the same order each week on his way home as a take out order. last month upon arriving home, we opened the bags and we had 100 napkins, 100 menus, some forks and no food. we called and were told they were sorry and that they did not know how to credit our credit card!! we would have to come back and get food-after a bit of arguing, they figured out how to credit our card. tonight, the same order that we have been placing for a year was one meal short upon arriving home. when i called to complain and explain my frustration, i was told that i had a negative vibe!!!!! for all you vegetarians our there...soall bistro in marblehead has wonderful food and gracious service!!! i will not eat a LA again....sorry!

Have only been here once but they menu was huge and all the options look scrumptious. Can't wait to go back and try more of their offerings. I had a Gluten Free Salad with Hummus. My husband had another salad and one of their juices. We hope this place is here for a very long time. Great food and love the atmosphere. Will check to see if they offer free wifi for lunch breaks and such.

We go to the one in Cambridge regularly and this one is great because it's not as busy and the food is just as wonderful. You can never go wrong with anything you order here. You feel healthy, full, alert, awakened, happy and ALIVE after eating here :-) organic wraps, bowls, and even small dishes. This is very popular in northern California and so if you are looking for this style of food look no further. This place is the best!

Salem residents waited a long time for a restaurant like this! Life Alive offers a selection of delicious healthy meals, which are more or less the same meal: various fresh veggies mixed with a grain and a tasty sauce, either in a bowl, a big bowl, or wrapped in bread. The smoothies are almost a meal by itself. After trying a few different bowls, I've settled on the goddess, which never disappoints. No coffee is available, so if you'd like a cup or a latte, you'll have to walk down the street a block to Gulu Gulu, not a bad way to enjoy an afternoon in Salem.

Found Live Alive through the Yelp app, and when I saw the reviews I knew I had to check it out. The 90+ degree weather put a damper on my appetite, but the smoothies were a perfect snack to cool off with. Got the Love Alive - delicious. Also had the chance to try the Island Alive - so good! The staff was incredibly nice, as well. I'll be back and next time, I'll bring my appetite... the food choices looked incredible.

This is my favorite restaurant on the North Shore and visit weekly. The food and smoothies are delicious, healthy, and filling! My personal favorites include the Innocent, Goddess and Swami bowls, plus the Romantic wrap with brown rice is very yummy with the melted cheese. For smoothies, my favorite is Lust Alive, but I enjoy the Island Alive and Coconut Alive too. Also, the staff is very friendly and make you feel welcomed each time.

I just had the innocent bowl. If you want a comforting, hearty, utterly DELICIOUS favorite dish, look no further. Their dressings, pairings, and sides are innovative and usually completely wonderful. Though the counter-people often seem flustered or confused, the place has a laid-back, positive vibe and great food that you can feel just as good about eating.

Life Alive is definitely one of my go to places. It is one of the few healthy places that I CRAVE. The Emperor is my absolute favorite thing on the menu. I am not sure how they make their Miso sauce but it is delicious. I also love their coconut alive smoothie. I always find the staff their to be helpful, inviting and fun. I have been to the other Life Alive locations and Salem seems to always get their food out very quickly in comparison. This relaxed, cozy restaurant is the perfect place to hang out and do homework or to sit on your laptop.

Don't here if you want to be grumpy. The bright decor, delicious, healthy fare & friendly staff will make anyone smile. Eating here is fun & good for you. The demi plate is plenty big for a moderately hungry adult. The choices are numerous, the vegetables are beautiful and fresh. Good for you and tasty grains add depth. Imaginative sauces complete the blend. Yum!

This is an overpriced hipster fad that has no business charging what they charge for the menu and portions they offer. $7 for a PB&J?! $10 for a salad wrap?!!! Come on. There are plenty of hard-working honest businesses in Salem that offer fantastic food at reasonable prices Go anywhere else, unless you enjoy an insult to your wallet and your intelligence.

Yelpers, where are the 200 reviews this place so rightly deserves after being in Salem for all of five whole minutes? So far, I've been in here twice and here I come with my review. I got the Goddess Handi Wrap for my first adventure, and LOVED it, although I was on the go and it was messy--don't eat these wraps in your car unless your car is already a scene like mine is. Next visit, I indulged in the Adventurer, and got a demi, even though my cells were saying, "Get the Filling Bowl". The demi was just fine for lunch because all of the variety in the bowl and all the nutrition dancing around in there makes your cells say YES. Both of these veggie/tofu/sprouted legume experiences were absolutely delicious. I plan to try everything on this menu--how can one go wrong? I also got a "rooibos" tea. Beware. This might be someone else's thing, but I could have used a heads up that this is a rooibos BLEND and it had like 12 ingredients in the blend overpowering the rooibos and confusing me muchly. I did not like that, and would not get it again. Keep the other stuff out of my rooibos, please. So, why the five stars if I'm fearing the weird tea? Well, it's because of how awesome and chill the staff was when I came up all sad about my tea experience. They were so understanding and offered to comp me, but I did not take them up on it. Although I could have used a verbal warning about the blend, there are descriptions of the tea clearly printed on a sheet---caveat emptor, right? So, I'm counting the days until they serve beer and wine, then I'm dragging hubby the meat eater in here and watching his amazement as he chows down on the best in veggie food. Welcome to Salem, Life Alive. I plan to spend the summer in here, and just so you know, I'm writing this review as I'm sitting here in your awesome store.

they have ALMOST everything right but miss on a few little things. I go here almost every day for lunch....the food/ingredients are very high quality and a lot of the items on the menu are creative, have huge flavor and it fills you up. Definitely a break from standard veggie joints that lack flavor & substance. That being said, they need to be a little more consistent on quantity of food....especially when you're paying over $10 for lunch...sometimes the wraps vary too much in size and sometimes you can get one very small one day, and overloaded the next. Also, while most of the staff are friendly, they don't show much appreciation for business (especially frequent customers) and hit you for the little things when they can...for example charging $1.00 for adding avocado to your 12th lunch that's free...after spending over $100 and being a loyal customer, Id think the little add-ons to your free meal should be let go. Also the paper they use for the wraps sticks to them when the sauce leaks out causing it to rip when you open it...definitely an annoyance but the food is so good I keep going back!

I am a meat eater. Yesterday I had a Five Guys burger for dinner and I'm already thinking of doing it again. Yet my experience at Live Alive over the weekend blew me away. First off, the space and staff are both extremely welcoming and made me feel very comfortable, even though almost all the menu ingredients were completely foreign to me. With some assistance from the guy behind the counter (and also because I love anything with avocados), I chose the Green Goddess. My boyfriend got the Udon Miso Masterful and our friend got the Healer in a wrap. For drinks we got the ginger crush and I think my friend got the Life Alive. It was ALL AWESOME! All the meals were very flavorful, none of us had any complaints about any of them. I think the Green Goddess was the best. I'd happily eat that again. The ginger crush was actually spicy, there was so much ginger in it. So if you don't like ginger that much, I wouldn't recommend it. My boyfriend could only do a few sips before he handed it over to me to finish. My friend also found the Life Alive drink to be a bit too much, I guess all the wheatgrass flavor was a bit overwhelming, and she's a vegetarian who's used to wheatgrass. It's definitely an acquired taste. At the end of our meals, we were all full but we didn't feel gross in the slightest. And we all felt like we had something good for our bodies. All in all, I will be returning to Life Alive several times and if they keep up this level of quality I expect them to be in Salem for a long time.

Good luck with the parking. Essex is a busy one way and other streets are not much better. Seek a parking lot. This was my dau. and my first visit...thought we would take a chance. It is a noisy, bustling cafe, but the staff remain calm and will explain the menu...in detail and there are a lot of details. Forgo that and just order the Emperor at the counter. They will bring it to the table. My dau. got the Goddess, and I had a Dandi-Mocha Latte as well. It has chicory and dandelion but the end result is rich, chocolate-ty, and tastes like a strong coffee minus the caffiene. Do not go for a meal size beyond the demi. The plates are filling with the brown rice. We skipped the tofu and yet we both barely finished our plates. Don't like beets, you will with the Emperor. However, I noted it came with cheese. I saw no cheese. Oh, well it was fine without. Order a couple of demi's and share. At around $5 what is there to lose? The Goddess is mild in flavor while the Emperor had a more robust, almost smokey, dark taste that we both preferred. The room was filled with out of towners, students using the wifi, mom with babe sat far back on a large banquette, and two older pals had a very serious chin wag over things over my head. The bathrooms are far back past the door sign reading Nature Calling. I found bathrooms noting Here and There. I first thought it was the German Hier, but no. There were no paper towels in Here so I shoulda gone There. Outside the window people from all walks of life saunter by. A wiccan shop is across and down. See the area, have fun, get some ice cream in the area after. Research the area and have fun.

If you want 100% REAL wholesome organic fresh food, this is your place! So many delicious choices...it was really hard making a decision. I plan to try everything on the menu. I tried the "The Fool" (noodles, tofu, kale, ginger sauce) it was so tasty- I love their ginger sauce and the kale was cooked perfectly! They also had an iced tea-of-the-day, and I can't remember exactly what it was, but that was also great. They serve all their beverages in mason jars which made it feel like home (at least for me)...Everything tastes better out of a mason jar! The decor and ambiance was so warm, inviting and very inspiring. My jar dropped to the floor when I went to the back of the restaurant to the couches and bookshelves- SO MANY BOOKS! AND they were all GOOD CHOICES! I think I may just read all of their books instead of buying more of my own. Also, the staff deserves a HIGH FIVE b/c they were all so friendly and down-to-earth. I am looking forward to the next chance I get to go there.

My husband and I went here last night and I will start by saying we are about the least hippie people you can get! Gimme some apple pie and an American flag! We wanted to try it because it's a 30 second walk from where we live and we enjoy good healthy food. We split the Goddess and the Swami and both were delicious! The Goddess had a great flavor of real fresh ginger and the Swami was a little sweet with a curry flavor that wasn't overpowering. You could taste the fresh veggies in both meals and also the complexity of the sauces which was great! The Swami was both of our favorites because it gave you that warm, full feeling and I prefer sweet things in general. My husband got the Coconut Alive smoothie which was good but not amazing. The prices for the food are extremely reasonable considering you could go down the street and pay just as much, if not more for a burger and fries that cost the restaurant close to nothing to make. This food is all organic and fresh and I am convinced it would cost you about as much to buy these ingredients from Whole Foods and make it yourself at home (but it would be a lot more time consuming and you couldn't recreate their sauces.) The drinks are on the pricey side for sure- about $5 or more for a smoothie or fresh juice- but once again, this isn't a soda out of a machine- time and good ingredients go into these! A sad part about the menu is that there's absolutely NO MEAT :( . I respect that- you go here for a certain type of food and tomorrow night, get yourself a delicious steak somewhere else. They do what they're good at here and it shows. The atmosphere is a bit hippie dippy but it's Massachusetts- what do you want? Overall it's clean, well run and most importantly- good food!

Coming from a small town in Pennsylvania, it's incredibly difficult to find a quality vegetarian restaurant. Staying in Salem, the first thing I looked for food wise was ask friends a good place to go. They recommended Life Alive. I wasn't disappointed! The hummus is delicious, and I wanted to stop by more than once just to taste different smoothies. I had the Seeker. Very good! It's an easy walk from the heart of Salem.

I've had life alive before in Cambridge, and I was honestly expecting much more from the Salem location, both in terms of ambience and food quality. I really loved the community table downstairs in Cambridge, and was honestly let down with the generic seating in the Salem location. I got the "goddess" bowl, and all I could taste was garlic, which was pretty disappointing, given that a) I love avocado, and not tasting it was a huge let down, and b) for $10, I would love to taste more than just garlic. Its really unfortunate that it's so hard to find decent vegan food in Salem.

I've been to LIfe Alive many times since it opened in Salem. I especially enjoy the grain-based meals like the Alchemist and The Healer. I've never been a very adventurous person when it comes to vegetables but I'm learning to be and it feels great! One drawback that I've encountered is that the restaurant was closed on several occasions when I got there even though I thought it would be open and was disappointed on at least three occasions and it wasn't open so had to go elsewhere for dinner. It took me about six months to try it again and to risk seeing whether it would be open! Fortunately, it was and the food was delicious!

In a word? Magnificent! I've dreamed about such a vegan restaurant. Yay for Salem MA for finally having what I have been looking for, for years! Fresh smoothies with the best ingredients, great recipes, all delicious! Then the main dishes with vegan cheddar cheese over fresh veggies, nuts etc etc, all mouthwatering!! I see some reviewers call it rabbit food! lol Then I am a rabbit! Thank you to all staff!! Keep up the great job!! UPDATE: my older relatives think the music is too loud! lol So, I go by myself or with my husband. UPDATE: door leading in to the building is heavy, so I try to go in when someone else goes in. I wonder if that can be adjusted? Never thought to ask, but I do wonder. (I have an old hand injury)

THE FOOD IS FANTASMAGORICAL. Granted, it seems to be more geared toward rabbits, but it's definitely ready for human consumption. They way they throw together vegetables and noodles and quinoa - I can't even explain. It's amazing. The carrot cake juice/smoothie I got tasted SO AMAZING. You need to try it- it was like liquid carrot cake - Which sounds disgusting but tastes incredible.

A vegetarian wonderland of options... bowls, wraps, salads and smoothies. You can even get ciders and beers, which is fun. I got The Green Goddess with the Ginger Nama Shoyu sauce with flax oil and garlic, avocado, broccoli, greens, and tofu with brown rice. I am telling you - it was GARLICY. But to me, that was great. The wrap is the perfect size for lunch. The coconut smoothie my friend ordered was amazing as well. Coconut flavored without being too powerful. The line, however, was long and jumbled. Only one man was taking order AND phone orders, which was way too much. They definitely needed one more person on the register during the lunch rush. He was friendly, though, and going as fast as he could while staying accurate. The dining room is spacious and has nice decorations, reminding everyone the power of eating organically.

HUGE menu. So many options, and so many things I don't like...but there was one thing I knew I would love and I was 100% right. Broccoli, cheese, mmmm. I believe it was called The Romantic. Coconut shake was great too. Not too much this or that. Ordering was a bit confusing, as they had about 10 questions after we ordered. My friend just wanted a box to get half her sandwich to go and the man ignored her until she got in line again just to find out that the boxes were next to the trash. Maybe some signage? But there was tons of that already with quotes and why organic is great.

Tasty smoothies. Filling healthy life-giving food. Portions are huge, we usually share. I don't like the ordering system. The line can get long, it just seems inefficient. It'd be easier to have people sit down and have orders taken.

I have to visit this place every time I go through or am staying in Salem. The atmosphere is colorful with murals and art decorating the space, and rustic with its brick walls and wooden chairs and tables. The food of course is the main attraction. Today I had The Fool, a heaping bowl of tofu, mushrooms, carrot, sweet onion, kale, sesame seeds, and udon noodles with a sesame ginger sauce. As always, it was absurdly delicious! I know the place is called Life Alive, but the food is to die for.

Hands down one of my favorite spots! I'm here a few times a month and I would be here more often if I actually lived in Salem. Even just walking into this place puts me in a good mood. So many delicious options here and you can easily customize and add things to any of the bowls or wraps and they have lots of gluten free options as well. I love the demi Swami bowl with avocado added, the demi green goddess with quinoa and tofu, all the fresh juices, the elvis smoothie, and any of the kombucha flavors! It is slightly pricey but the freshness you get is so worth it. I just wish they were open later at night!

Lunch her was awesome! It was recommended by our friends in Rochester, NY should we ever visit Salem...and we are here! A welcoming place with the most friendly, helpful staff and wholesome, healthy, delicious lunch, we look forward to returning!

My business partners and I used to swing by here to grab lunch every week or so on the regular. As of late, these visits have become far less frequent than they used to be. Many people on Yelp have noted the prices on the menu being a bit steep, but we never minded this as we thought we were also paying for an experience. This isn't the case at all. Last week was the final nail in the coffin. Usually we've just had to worry about the sporadic customer service regarding phone ordering. It's a bit like playing roulette with the odds not in your favor. When calling in, more often than not, one of us would be put on hold and forgotten about, leaving us to finally hang up after fifteen minutes. Naturally, we'd then to try to ring back and would end up faced with thirty minutes (no joke) of busy signals, so we'd either then say screw it and order elsewhere or someone would raise their hand to make the drive over from Marblehead to make the order in person, and then wait some more. It shouldn't be that difficult to get vegetarian food for lunch. Knowing that LifeAlive Salem had recently re-assessed their customer service, we decided to give it another shot when another had a craving for smoothies. I handled the ordering, which thankfully went okay, was told it'd be 15 to 20. Planned for the longer period, gave them an extra five minutes on top of that, then my partner headed inside to pick things up alone. Once he got in, however, he quickly realized they hadn't started the order at all. He stood around waiting for more than another 20 minutes, letting the meter on his car go past what he'd put in for change, only to eventually have our office's order shoved at him without a bag or anything to help with the carrying. I guess they were out of those, or simply didn't care to lend a hand to a customer. By the time he got back, he was out $25 on a parking ticket, had dropped whatever napkins and sauce he'd managed to grab, had one of the wraps leaking all over his shirt and pants, and had the smoothies stacked up to his chin, barely hanging on. I'm not the vegetarian in our dynamic, but I sympathize with the one in the group and am always happy to find places that can make everyone happy and provide ample options. LifeAlive used to do this. However, after this latest episode, we probably won't be back. The parking ticket can be considered our own shortsightedness, as we know this business has a history of stumbles and should have planned accordingly. But those stumbles are very much their's, have added up, and we can't have it eating away at work time (and personal time) anymore. It's just not fair when you're a loyal customer, whose patience and time would be better respected elsewhere.

Such a yummy assortment of healthy, organic, vegan, veggie and beautiful food. If you're in Salem and want to take care of your body and soul, this is the place for you :)

Can I just bring a bed and sleep in the corner. I would literally eat here every single day if I could. Get The Fool. HIGHLY ADDICTIVE. Love the staff. My kids are toddlers and LOVE The Innocent. All the smoothies are tasty, too.

When I first heard this place was 1. Vegetarian 2. Healthy Being a steak and wine loving foodies I was afraid to step one foot in there. Wow was I surprised. I got the "Rebel" and it was terrific. I would repeat.

This place is great, wide selection of bowls, wraps, and smoothies. Everyone in there was super friendly as well. If you don't get the Elvis smoothie, that's fine but I hate you and you're wrong.

This life alive is just as delightful as their Cambridge location!! The free wifi was a bit tricky to activate, but a wonderful customer helped my out. I love the hot & healthy bachelor, it's definitely my favorite dish!

Went in for the first time today and was blown away! Where has this little piece of heaven been all my life? I've been a vegetarian for 20 years and have been clean eating (everything I consume is 100% organic) for 2 years now. This place made my heart skip a beat and was so perfect! I'm so impressed, grateful (and now stuffed)!

A health conscious hippie-esque eatery that offers organic and vegan options. The staff are friendly and willing to answer any bizarre question you might have. The cozy back corner is my favorite spot to nestle with a "Be Alive" juice and "Romantic" wrap. I brushed up on my gardening skills while enjoying a delicious meal, in a comforting and welcoming environment.

I usually go here when I want to eat something healthy and treat myself! It can be pricey for everyday (especially when you want everything on the menu) but it's definitely worth it every so often. Sometimes I'll swing by and grab the Superhero Alive when I'm feeling under the weather. All of their food is delicious so favorites are difficult. I do personally prefer the warm bowls over the salads though. You can add on items too (I always go for extra garlic and egg) I also like that they offer beer/wine/cider...there's usually have a good rotation. I usually get tea or a smoothie, but the option is always nice!

Loved this place so much during breakfast that I went back for dinner. I wish we had places like this at home, in Miami. Not only is the food amazing, the staff is wonderful!

This review isn't really fair because I wouldn't touch anything on the menu in here. It's all rabbit food. Pretty disgusting. That said, they make a mean coffee and there are tons of cute hipster chicks in this place. Atmosphere isn't bad either, they have these big cool cut-open tree tables and the drinks come in sturdy mason jars. Whatever you do just don't eat anything.

This is the first time I tried this place, and totally loved it. The food is every dollar worth and very delicious and filling at the same time. I am going to visit it again, and again. And again.

Vegans, this place is stuff your dreams are made of (I don't call myself one at all). You can try all you want but you won't find a single thing to criticize Life Alive about. I just wish there were more locations outside of Cambridge for me. I'm in Salem often enough to keep going back but the 40 mile round trip is kind of a drag. Alright, I said I wasn't complaining. Simple, delicious, fresh ingredients....and they do it in one of the best and quick ways I have ever seen. Take note Panera, Chipotle et al. It's an incredible menu and I know psychosomatically, I always feel better every time I leave here. I don't believe there is a single animal product on the menu from what I remember. I usually get tofu with whatever dish I'm having. I normally get "The Fool" which is udon noodles cooked with shitake mushrooms, kale, onions, shredded carrots and sesame seeds. Perfectly seasoned and balanced all around, it's tough to try other things once you fall in love with a dish like this so that is why I drag my SO along with me to try hers. Don't forget about the powerpacked juices & smoothies they offer on the "other" side of the order counter. Carrot, apple and ginger. Yup, tried and loved! Another has beets and wheat grass which I've never tasted. I'm sure you can't go wrong with any of these, the only small turnoff is that they are approaching $6. So if you want to get out of here under $25 for two people, you have to split one of the delectable juices. Seating is ample and funky, so is the artwork and paint scheme. I've seen it crowded a few times but at least it's not a Starbucks where everyone lingers for hours and you can't find a single seat. There will be a handful of people playing on their Macbooks but most of the time you'll be able to get seated right away.

We were in Salem last weekend for my cousin's wedding, and he recommended Life Alive, as we are a vegan, hippieish family. Man, it was the best meal I've had in a long time. Not only was the food delicious- we tried four different salads and 5 different smoothies and they were all great- Yum!, but I came away totally jazzed and inspired by the ambience and the business model. We live in Durham, NC, and while there is a sweet vegan community here, we have nothing like Life Alive. I loved the beauty and feel of the original art work on the front counter space and in the couch nook area. I loved the quotes on the walls- and the beautiful "here" and "there" bathroom spaces. I loved how the space seemed able to accommodate very different dining experiences- it was wonderful for our loud 3 year old, but I also saw people having intimate meals together, sitting quietly working on their laptops, grabbing a quick bite after yoga etc. The staff was all super nice- except one less than enthusiastic guy at the counter when we ordered. I can't stop thinking about our experience and how I can work to make something like Life Alive happen in our area. It is really something special, and I just wish I lived closer. We would come here all the time. If you find yourself in the Salem area- or near the other two locations, definitely stop here, you will not be disapointed!

I am a huge fan of life alive. The Boston location is MUCH better due to the staff. I've been to the Salem location multiple times only to encounter the same woman who works at the register. Her name is Crystal and she consistently has a bad attitude and makes the experience unenjoyable every time. The manager came over and was lovely and hopefully she speaks to crystal about her attitude so I can continue having lunch at my favorite place.

I've eaten at the Central Square location several times, and was stoked to find there was one here in Salem next to my job. I was sitting in a dark basement room feeling low on energy and this place was the perfect fix! I had the Swami (previously I'd only had salads but thought I'd try one of their more popular dishes) - WOW. The subtle spice of the curry, sweetness of carrots and raisins, and crunchy texture of tamari almonds and kale on a bed of perfectly cooked brown rice was delicious! I also had the Shakti smoothie at the recommendation of their employee and it gave me the energy I needed. Try this place - you won't be disappointed. Yes, the prices are a little higher than what you would pay at your average sub shop, but there's no comparison in the freshness and quality of the ingredients.

Ok...seriously. These are not even actual dishes but bunch of greens veggies and legumes thrown together. What a disappointment after reading all the positive reviews. Food has absolutely no taste whatsoever i actually had to use i think all of their hot spicy sauce to even be able to digest it. No im not a vegetarian but my meals consist of 80%veggies so i know how to eat healthy and still enjoy my food. Anyone can chop some green stuff and call it a meal They should really do a research on some great tasting vegan/vegetarian dishes.

The food is amazing! After eating a ton of chowder, fried clams, and Apple donuts from the cider mill, this place was a real treat. Don't be intimidated by the menu. While it is difficult to grasp, the staff is eager to help. Amazing smoothies, delicious juices, yummy wraps, and the salads are wonderful as well. Literally felt fabulous after I ate my meal.

This is now our FAVORITE 'healthy' restaurant! I too love the 'SWAMI'. Name is a little scary, but this is the best dish ever! We've been going for several years (beginning at the Lowell location), and loved that they opened up in Salem. We were a little disappointed that they limited the hours in Salem, but we work it out. I add more almonds to my Swami, and an egg. So delicious! There is a wide variety of drinks..teas of all kinds, smoothies that are healthy and delicious, and fruit drinks. Who needs a liquor license with this variety? My husband loves the wheatgrass, but that's a little strong for me!! Now we just need one in Andover/North Andover - so we won't need to travel as far. (:

After roaming Salem for most of the day, I thankfully found this gem. Are you gluten-free? Only eat organic? Vegan? This place caters to all of these. I highly recommend the adventurer. The fresh vegetables were all crisp and flavorful, which played off each other to become a guilt-free and satisfying meal.

I am a proud, meat-loving, American male. That being said, the first thing in my criteria for food is it must taste good. Next, It must be prepared with care. So fine, if you want to limit yourself to only vegetables, no gluten, no soy, only raw, free-range spring water, then you might want to try this place. But more importantly, if you like delicious food that leaves you satisfied and wanting to return again and again, you should definitely come to this place. Stop saying no to food and start saying yes to taste

Everything I have tried at life alive has been incredible. From Kombucha, fresh organic made smoothies (carrot cake alive is my favorite), fresh organic meals, to shots of wheat glass, this place wonderful. Everything is made fresh to order and the staff is always very happy and knowledgeable.

When you inadvertently deliver my food to a customer and THE CUSTOMER brings it back to the front, please don't stick a new fork in it and deliver it to my table. Otherwise, this place was excellent.

I really love the food here. It is healthy and filling, what more can you ask for? I have to say I get frustrated with the consistency of it sometimes. Sometimes there's tons of kale, sometimes there's next to none. Sometimes the nutritional yeast is clumped and too salty and sometimes its perfect. more times than not they are on point. they have a spicy sauce that I'm OBESSED with. Its called dancing dragon/ dancing passion. I love it so much I have been trying to find a recipe for it (no luck). They have awesome smoothies too. The are about $6 which is pricey but the carrot cake alive is dessert in a cup!

The best vegetarian food on the north shore. Honestly, cannot say enough good things about this place. I only wish they'd extend their hours so I could go more often.

I have only been here once but had one of the best meals ever. I got the explorer and it was probably the best salad I've ever had. Every single ingredient tasted so good together and everything was obviously very fresh. I also ordered the lust smoothie and thought it was amazing as well. My favorite part is that I didn't feel guilty leaving because it's so healthy!

Life Alive is teeming with vegan deliciousness at every turn! This tasty joint occupying the space formerly taken up by Coven bakery, is just plain awesome. I was lured in by the smoothies and have been completely taken by the food and juices as well. Life Alive is a wonderful place that is staffed by friendly & outgoing people who look to be just as conscious about their food choices as you likely are. The food here is thoughtful and chock full of all the good stuff; brown rice, quinoa, dark greens, tofu, avocado, beets, squash, yogurt, ginger, savory sauces,--you name it, it's here and it's made with great care. The interior space is filled with eclectic funky eye candy and plenty of comfortable places to stow away and enjoy your meal, socialize, or catch up on work or reading. Let's face it, you can't beat friendly staff and tasty food--can't wait for my next vegan craving to hit, as I know where I'll be getting my fix!

The place is beautiful, great job renovating guys. The smoothies are delicious (love the mason jars). But it is overpriced, esp for the snack/children's offerings. We got both our kids "The Child" and what arrived was a sloppy rollup with peanut butter and jelly at nearly $6 each.No sides to make the plate look pretty and more wholesome -- they do offer them for add'l $$$, which would have made the meal a total of $14 for two kids. I can only speak for the smoothies which are awesome, but not a good place to bring the kids if you are looking for something affordable.

Giving 3 1/2 stars. I ordered the Elvis Alive smoothie. It was great; Price a bit steep but otherwise great. Also got the kiddie quesadilla; my daughter did not like it but I thought it was alright. Will probably go back.

Life Alive is wonderful for both vegans and omnis. The Swami is my ultimate favorite, nice curry flavor. tasty veggies. this one has it all for me. Recycling and compost. Fair prices considering you get fresh mostly organic ingredients. Delicious juices. TASTY coffee, made to order, worth it. I can't get enough of this place, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. answering any questions and never making me feel rushed. just go here. grab some grub and a smoothie you won't regret it!

Okay, I've been back here a bunch of times now. What I like about this place is that it's an easy place to go if you want veggies/greens but don't want a salad. Now, I've tried a number of their warm stuff and have decided that it's all about the same. Some different mixtures of the veggies, but it all sorta tastes similar, unless you go off the reservation and get one that's pretty different. Which I like - I think overall they're tasty and good. Now if you're looking for low calorie - this isn't it. You get enough rice/quinoa/tofu/legumes and other stuff added in that while since there's no meat it's not low calorie - so don't be fooled. Luckily I workout like a madman, so I'm looking for those calories. That said, this is where I can run into trouble. I'm always looking for protein. And animal protein (which humans are evolved to eat :) is much more efficiently digested and utilized than that of veggies. Plus, when they say a veggie is high in protein - that's relative to other veggies. For example, almonds are high in protein, right? Sure, compared to lettuce. Compared to meat they've got very little. And compared to the fact content of almonds, it's miniscule. In order to get the same amount of protein as a chicken breast, you'd need like 2000 calories worth of fat too. That said, I love almonds. And Life Alive allows you to mix and match whatever you want. So I always make sure I get quinoa ("high" in protein), an egg, mushrooms, and I'm considering adding peanut butter. (I need the fat to feel satiated - another problem with this food is that without much fat, I'm hungry in 20 minutes). Yup, that's my ranting. It's good food, very healthy for restaurant food (though totally loaded with sodium) and fairly healthy in the scheme of things. They have local beers, which is cool. Staff is always uber helpful. The smoothies and ice cream drinks are quite tasty - well done! And compared to the one in Cambridge (ALWAYS a long line out the door), it's no where near as busy. It's getting busier, which is good for the business, but it's still always a reasonable wait in line and for food, which is nice.
