Not sure what the negative reviews are about, love this place! This is honestly one of my favorite restaurants on the planet. I grew up in Medfield and work in the general area. I've been to Fuji Steakhouse about 25 times over the past 10 years and love every occasion. I'll say pretty much the only thing I don't like is the minimal and kind of awkward parking available in the side alley and back of the restaurant. But when you walk in the place is immaculate, beautifully decorated, and everything seems very new. The service is incredible, the food is all very tasty, and their selection is excellent. I've gone many times for the hibachi and a few times for just the sushi, and both are great. They have good lunch deals as well. The hibachi cooks do an excellent job cooking, performing, and cleaning up afterwards. All in all, a great restaurant that is making me hungry just writing about it. 5 Stars for sure!

I'm frustrated by the manager and his customer service. Bought a Local Flavor voucher online for $15 dollars and planned to take my family out to lunch to try out their Hibachi. As I was greeted, I told the Chinese manager about the LocalFlavor deal. He immediately responded: "we don't accept these vouchers for lunch" EXCUSE ME? I read the fine print on the voucher specifically to prove him wrong. My suggestion to you mister Chinese guy, please review below and adjust your Fine Print accordingly on LocalFlavor. "The Fine Print PROMOTION VALUE of each Certificate is valid FROM THE DAY AFTER PURCHASE until 3/16/2016 Limit: 2 per user. Limit: 1 as gifts. Merchant will abide by gift certificate state laws. No cash or credit back. Each certificate must be used in one visit. Not valid on tax or gratuity. Limit one certificate per visit. Certificate cannot be used in conjunction with any other certificate, coupon, special or promotion. Voucher does not discount alcohol; discount is derived from the meal portion of the deal. One certificate per table. Not valid on Take Out/Carry Out unless otherwise noted. PAID VALUE ($15.00) EXPIRES ON 3/16/2021. PROMOTIONAL VALUE ($30.00) EXPIRES ON 3/16/2016." With all these one start ratings about the restaurant itself, I'm glad we had better food service somewhere else.

Used to frequent this establishment a couple times a month until both me and my wife got severe food poisoning there. We were told by our doctors after 5 days of hell (not an exaggeration) that we got a staff food poisoning which can kill you. Whatever was on the grill that day was contaminated and now I will never eat hibachi ever again. We got sick in the winter of 2013 but just writing the review now. Hopefully they have fixed their health code issues.

not bad, not great is the easiest way to put it. The service and ambiance is solid but there was a key thing that stood out that took away from the experience, the chef. I've never met someone less engaged, less interested in being there than this chef. My finance and I have been to plenty of hibachi places and there's at least some level of involvement and we experienced none. It's a shame because the food and the drinks were very good but just the nature of the chef made it unwelcoming. Maybe we hit him on a bad day...

First things first, another Japanese restaurant owned and operated by Chinese. Is this a surprise? No. Most Japanese places in MA seemed to be owned by Chinese and in my neck of the woods, suburban Las Vegas, they are all owned by Koreans (although, that seems to be changing with our growing Japanese community). My hopes did get up when we followed a Japanese family into the restaurant. The waitress was kind of short with our table during the order and for some reason she kept on confusing our dinner mate's request for brown rice with our other dinner mate's request for fried rice, to the point where it seemed like a very unfunny stand up act. When the chef came he chef didn't chit chat with us at all. I mean absolutely no small talk. Maybe because I'm from Vegas and expect a bit more customer service, but he just did his show with a burst of fire here and there, did the onion volcano, served the food, wiped up and left. Long story short, dude was just going through the motions. The food was pretty good, the interior was very handsome, especially the sushi bar area, but when you go for teppenyaki you expect more interaction from the chef.

The habachi show was entertaining. Other than that you are able to get food anywhere else. Dinner special was overpriced(I understand there's the show aspect to the price) and the quality was decent but portion was a bit small. The party boat was okay. It's basically a Chinese restaurant with Japanese name. The chef was great but the other staffs were not so much. Attitude wasn't too bad but it wasn't great either. Won't go back again.

Having Fuji Steak House being my only hibachi experience, I love it. The layout of the restaurant is very relaxing and welcoming. The staff there are very friendly and attentive and engaging. They have an area just for Sushi as well as hibachi. I am not a sushi fan so I stick to the Hibachi each time I visit. The cooks are very friendly and offer some cool tricks and humor while doing their thing. The Mai Tia's there are some of the best I have ever had. A great volume of liquor and juices and fresh fruit garment. The hibachi dinner here is quite filling. They start you off with this mushroom soup which is very good you can literally drink it up. Followed by a side salad with these awesome ginger like dressing, which has become one of my favorites. The dinner itself never fails. My first time there I tried the chicken teriaki and it was cooked perfect and tasty. The most recent times there I go for the Steak or Filet Mignon and it's always cooked the way you want it. Medium for me. The combo steak/chicken is my favorite. You get both and the portions are huge. It is served with mixed veggies, fried shrimp, and white rice, or fried rice for an extra 2.50. The fried rice is worth the extra 2.50, trust me. They have some of the best fried rice I have ever had and you just want to bring some home. This place is a food coma waiting to happen. Impossible to be hungry after leaving here, even though you may want some Fro-yo. They are on Groupon and Living Social a lot, so if you do go here check on there first for a voucher. I use it every time I go.

I tried this place out because they were on Groupon. $30 for $15, why not? Of course I waited too long and it expired. Anyway, I show up and said hey I want to use this Groupon but it's expired and I understand that it's now worth only $15 bucks. They said yeah it's fine. They sat me, I ordered the Bonsai Scallops which were the bomb. The chef was awesome. He friggin' balanced an egg on his spatula and then used the spatula to crack it somehow. It was wild. So yeah no complaints, except they never refilled my water. Whatever. Here comes the fun part. The waiter comes up with the check and I said cool I have this Groupon could you please take off $15. OK lemme see your phone. I gave it to him and off he went. He comes back a couple of minutes later and says I can't use the Groupon because this here paper says it's been used already. I said this is my first time here, no one has used my Groupon. OK lemme go talk to my manager. Please do. His manager comes waving the same paper at me and I said I don't care what your paper says, I've never been here before no one uses my Groupons or my phone. He puts on his mean face and says OK lemme go talk to my owner. 10-15 minutes later they come back and ask for my phone number, and it's this big production involving 3 or 4 very serious looking boys and girls, but they finally took off the $15. I still left the chef a good tip 'cause it's not his fault his employers use a pen and paper to track their Groupons. I gave them 3 stars because except for that last part I would have given them 4. I think that's generous based on how they handled my Groupon. I'm not going back but I'm not gonna discourage other people from trying it -- just maybe think twice before buying their Groupon. Unless you like being treated like a thief, in which case this place is right up your alley. That's all I got. Bye Yelp.

So rude! I came to meet with some friends who also purchased the Groupon. Two separate parties but because we walked in through the front door together we are considered one party...even with two separate checks. They refused to accept both parties Groupons and said they would only take one. How misleading! So we had already drove a half hour to dine here so we agreed hesitantly. Our waitress was so rude, not at all accommodating and rather difficult with an attitude. The food was okay but over all the hibachi experience was greatly lacking. Never going back. Rip Off. Rude Service. Not a pleasant environment.

Came here with my dad for a nice casual dinner, we've been here a couple times and I've always been indifferent. Never had a reason to review the joint because my opinions been so neutral(and I've only been to the Hibachi section, was sitting at the normal table tonight) But tonight that indifferent opinion changed. The woman who served us was extremely disrespectful, she was walking away from our table before we were done ordering, responded "it's fine" when we asked about certain dishes, didn't refill our drinks(WATER) once the whole night, and overall showed a strong sense of disrespect towards my father and I. The food is good I'll give them that, way overpriced but good. The two stars go to the fun hibachi section of the restaurant, the missing three stars are for the lazy disrespectful service.

I do not eat mixed foods (ie , rice, vegetables, and meat mixed together in one bite), and I do not eat foods with sauce on them. So why I got my boyfriend Greg and I a groupon to Hibachi, is still a mystery. But I am glad I did! 20$ for 40$ worth of food! Wait time at hibachi resturants is a bit misleading. We were seated immediately, and given drinks right away (I suggest their Red Cab from Chile... delic... Greg liked his appletini), but we had to wait until our table filled up for food to be served (about 30 min). Regardless, it was still highly fast for a Friday night at 6pm. I think this experience was better than mediocre because of the lady on a date next to us (we never talked to her, but picked up so many good tips from her!). For example, NEVER order shrimp, cus you always get 3 free ones with dinner! Also, theirs a hidden dipping sauce on the table, that is so much better then the one they give you! If I were her date, I would be impressed. When ordering, make sure you order from the hibachi menu. Greg and I both picked out meals, and then were told that they aren't cooked hibachi... so we had to make a last minute quick change. Our waitress had some reccomendations and was prepared to give us a pitch. Because Greg and I don't eat fried rice, we got white rice, which came a little too early because it was cold before we got our meals. Greg said the food was great, and even though I got the chicken/steak hibachi... I only ate the vegetables, which were fresh and yummy! We both agreed we don't need hibachi for another 7-10 years, but overall the experience was great, and the groupon deal worked awesome! Good place for kids cus they have a pond with fish in in!

Wait time on a Friday: Pretty long. Whatever they tell you (i.e. 15 mins) add 40 mins to it. They have a koi pond hidden in the inside which I didn't know about. Reason? Very nice servers but inefficient: they make the servers do stuff like opening your warm towel packet and offering it to you. Kind of awkward especially since it's the disposable types. Food: I expected the food to be hot and loaded with soy sauce. I got that. Performance: My chef was obviously a newbie but I was okay with that cause at least he tried hard to be good at it- and singed his hand in the process. Management: They try to do too much stuff by themselves like answer phones and write down take out orders when they should be at the host stand seating people- very annoying when there are a load of waiting ppl, clean places, but no one to seat us.

A bit pricy but a good value with a groupon. The chef (or should I say artist) was very entertaining and skilled in Hibachi. The food tasted good too. There were a lot of kids under 10 there on a Saturday afternoon so it seems like a good place to bring your family. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a fun date night or outing with the family. I will probably return to this restaurant again some time. The house dressing on the salad was divine. Check it out!

Teppanyaki is a lost art these days and a dying industry it seems, at least in the Boston area. A shame really because looking past the gimmicky aspect of it, a meal cooked on a teppan (hot iron plate) can be wonderful and very enjoyable. And a lot of fun as well. Just don't confuse it with hibachi, which is not the same thing... On a brisk evening, in search of a place to have dinner, my girlfriend mentioned a spot in Needham that was apparently worth checking out and after a short drive, we arrived and proceeded to walk right in. Fuji Steak House is essentially two restaurants in one. On one side, to the right of the entrance is their sushi bar area where people sit at various, small tables and order some fresh sushi from the two chefs behind the counter. On the opposite end of the establishment there are three teppans where people are escorted and seated, and then place their orders. Unless you have a group large enough to cover the 10 or so seats around the horseshoe shaped teppan, chance are, you'll be assigned seats next to strangers but that's part of the fun really. I don't mind it personally. The menu at Fuji features all kinds of options and I couldn't decide between the chicken or the various types of beef offered so I decided to get their Mikado Special for $22 which featured both proteins alongside an onion broth, a side salad and some rice and vegetables. While we peeked at our menu our teppan's seats quickly filled up and soon everyone had placed their order. Fast-forward a few minutes and a chef rolled the cart over, introduced himself and got to work. The hood above the hot plate was turned on and within seconds he started to cooked the rice while we ate our soups ans salads. We opted for some fried rice and he did a few classic tricks as he cooked the food. I don't want to reveal anything as I don't want to spoil any first timer's experience but it was fun to watch although it's not any more original that what you'd see at other teppanyaki joints across the country. The rice, vegetables and meats were very tasty as were the girlfriend's Mai Tai cocktails. I had a few imported, Japanese beers with the meal. All in all the place was a lot of fun and a refreshing dining experience. Oh and in case you were wondering, yes, he did do the flaming onion volcano. While it's not cheap, it's also not that expensive and the service was pretty good although far from friendly and a bit pushy when it came to the drinks.

Awful experience and totally disappointed!!! We got the hibachi. The food was was very salty. EVERYTHING was loaded with soy sauce and MSG. The veggies meaning soy beans was cooked on the hot plate with a large spoonfuls of soy sauce. If you are on a diet this is not a place to go. Everything was cooked on that large grill, everything tasted the same. Portion size was not equalivant to everyone else. The largest size person on the table will get the most and the girls will get the least. Thank goodness I had a Groupon because $21 per person is not worth it at all. Totally sucked! And I was sad that the person I brought to experience this was his first time doing hibachi. It was cool to see the chief do all his tricks but it was only a 5 minute thing. Best thing was the salad. I'll pass on everything else. just give me more salad.

The worst experience. We were seated at a hibachi island where the seats were torn and the hibachi was dirty. The waitress was quick, unfriendly and threw the food down infront of us all evening. The miso soup was tasteless. Then the chef arrived 2 minutes after the salad was thrown down, threw his knives around for 30 seconds, cooked and left all in 5 minutes. Not entertaining, not engaging, unfriendly. Friends suggested Fuji as a fun place to treat my kids. What planet were they on!!!

Let me preface this by saying that I am fussy when it comes to restaurants. I travel for business frequently and dine out a lot, so I tend to be a harsh critic. I have visited Fuji Steak House several times now and have always been satisfied. I find the staff attentive and polite, the decor clean and modern, the chef entertaining, and the food delicious (my food experience has been exclusive to the teppenyaki). Others have complained about the decor being seedy, or worn. I didn't find it that way at all. No, it doesn't have the glitter and glamour of Benihana in its heyday, but Fuji really is very nice, and especially so for a neighborhood restaurant. I have no qualms about recommending it to friends, and intend to return,.

  • Amanda G.

We were intrigued because of a Groupon and decent local reviews. In terms of decor and food quality, things were below our general expectations for the price. However, we had called ahead to ensure we were able to use the Groupons and they said it was completely acceptable and would be honored. However, after ordering a large meal, which we were ensured we would receive the groupon for, they denied our request. The manager came over and swore no member of his staff had previously promised us use of the coupons (even though she clearly had and taken our reservation for 5). He was adamant in his claim and was clearly inhospitable to us as customers. They were very abrasive after this, loudly refusing our request to honor the coupons and making a scene in front of other patrons at the restaurant. After such abhorrent service, we will be returning our coupons and will NOT be coming to this establishment again. We recommend anyone considering to just do yourselves a favor and go somewhere else.

I have a seafood allergy and they did not ask me if I had any allergies when I told them they would not substitute the shrimp appetizer on the dinner. The food was delivered Frisbee style and you needed to beg for water .The sodas are not refillable. The food quality was good however for the cost we did not feel it was worth it. We had a groupon which brought us there however we do not intend to go back. The restaurant was half empty and it was so hot, they made excuses for putting on the a/c.

$21.95 for a teppanyaki style dinner (steak & scallop) and a show, which I guess is okay. Someone at the table should order the fried rice for an extra $1.95 (vs white) so the chef will do a bit of a show when he cracks the egg for the fried rice. Just about every table had a child or three... they love the onion volcano! In addition to the previously mentioned steak and scallops and fried rice, my dinner arrived with an oniony broth with thin slices of mushrooms and scallions, a really fresh and tasty simple salad, three decently sized shrimp, a mix of veggies, and a serving of bean sprouts. The portion was okay, but I, who usually has leftovers, was able to completely decimate my plate. If it is your birthday, it looks like they bring over a fried ice cream and sing to you. So it is a nice choice for kids and birthdays. They also have a fish pond, and two private rooms for non-teppanyaki diners. Bathroom is a touch small - only two stalls in the ladies' room, and the menu online needs some updating. *** 12/2011 *** They have a few parking spots in the back, but it was filled when we got there. No worries, we were easily able to snag a metered spot out front. While waiting to be seated, I watched their large flat screen with the interesting facts running across the bottom of the screen. Once seated, our party of 7 was oddly provided with 3 menus, which made picking out our dishes an unnecessarily longer process. Also, the warm wet napkins were nice, but I would have preferred receiving them AFTER I ordered, so I wouldn't have to continue touching the menus with my temporarily cleaned hands. I went with the seaweed salad $6.95 and the House Udon $17.95 (Served with Miso Soup, Stir fried shrimp, scallop, fish, clam, fish cake, bean curd and vegetable.). I found the salad rather too seasoned - I wasn't sure if it was too salty or too spicy... and would avoid this in the future. But it was cutely served in a martini glass. The House Udon was a good portion - I even took some home! It was of course mostly udon noodles but the seafood portion was pretty decent, with (for example) 3 deshelled shrimp tossed in amongst the other good stuff. The miso soup that came with my entree was okay. But while I was watching the cooking show before me, a waitress swept my half full bowl away before I could stop her. As for the show, don't lean in too close - when the initial flame goes up, it gets pretty warm/hot. *** 12/2012 *** I went with the Filet Mignon & scallop teppanyaki style dinner, which came with miso soup, salad, 3 shrimp, the requested protein, veggies, and bean sprouts. It was okay, but I think next time I'll pick an entree from another part of the menu. My sister's katsu plate looked rather generous; maybe I'll try one of those.

Wait time over an hour when they told us 20 minutes. Food not worth the price. Shrimp were good which normally I don't find to be the case at Asian places. Chef was not an entertainer. Disappointed. Cupcake bar next door made up for the subpar dinner.

This is our favorite family restaurant in the area. You get a bit of theater, but the food is fresh, made in front of you. It is always consistently good. We also like the sushi so if we are not in the mood for the hibachi we head to the bar and have some fantastic sushi. It's not fancy but extremely reliable and everyone is happy after we go

Just had a horrific dinner at fuji in needham. It doesn't even deserve one star. First the place is so run down. The walls are dirty and have holes in them. The glasses for our drinks were literally filthy. We were so rushed through the whole process of ordering, being served and getting out. The food was terrible. Soggy veggies. Hibachi was fine but everything felt dirty. Had to send back my meal because it was swimming in soy sauce. We had to ask for chop sticks and were just given two pairs despite being 5 people. Place felt cheap and dirty. At the end we told the waitress it was my sons bday so she quickly grabbed a n ice cream for him and very unhappily sang happy bday and ran off. Will never go back. Plus it was way overpriced! I have no idea how there were any positive reviews. The health dept. should take a look at this place

We've been to Fuji in Needham several times, and haven't been disappointed. They offered a Groupon recently ($15 for $30 of hibachi dinner), and although I usually cringe when I hear the word "hibachi," our chef was not overbearing and was instead more like a debonair James Bond or Agent Q of suave hibachi tricks. More importantly, the food was excellent; I ordered filet mignon with shrimp, and the vegetables, shrimp, and medium-rare beef were all just what I wanted. The steak we ordered was also very moist, tender, and well-prepared. I really loved the fact that we got to eat good hibachi food without the in-your-face boisterousness I don't cherish in many of my hibachi experiences. There are, if I counted correctly, six hibachi stations, with about sixteen place settings per station (but there may be more; I was too busy eating to go for sheer accuracy). Fuji has good sushi. They've got special items that change regularly; I really, really want to try their Yellow Submarine roll (it involves yellowtail/hamachi and something else I like but can't recall) but I have only noticed it on the board when I'm leaving, thus far. Tonight, they had otoro (fattiest tuna) at a reasonable price (around $10 for a two-piece order of nigiri). They do a good job with my favorite thing ever, which is salmon nigiri. If you do nigiri well, I'm all over it. They've got a very nice touch with their sushi dinner, and while they won't do substitutions, they will omit something (like octopus, for instance) if you ask. Their California Roll is also of note: not too cold in the ingredients department, and texturally nice. Usually, California Roll isn't a stand-out roll, but I am definitely a fan. It is very easy to order from their sushi menu and from their little slip of paper; my sushi experience starts with the ordering process, and if you make it smooth and streamlined, consolidated, and easy to follow, then I'll be back again another day. I like their beautiful fish pond, the size of their venue, the kindness of the (cheerful, knowledgeable) staff, and their food. I'm very glad that I have had the opportunity to discover this delicious double-threat!

When we arrived they asked us whether or not we wanted to sit in the hibachi area. I said yes thinking we were going to order hibachi. We ended up deciding we didn't want it and they said we couldn't stay there and we had to move. They didn't help us carry any of our drinks we had already gotten. It was dead in there, there was no reason to move. Sushi was just ok. My date got teriyaki steak which was overly sweet and not very good. They never checked on us to refill our water. They took forever to give us out bill. Overall I was very underwhelmed.

3.5 stars actually. Five of us girlfriends had a night out during the week, so we had no issues with waiting for our seats. The bar area is nice but very small and although my drink (sake) was fine, the women who had mixed drinks said it could have been a bit stronger (the 'mix' was overtaking the drink) so they switched to wine. The food at the cooking table was very good, I think three shrimps for an apptz seems a bit skimpy but still tasty. The chef was very friendly and talented. The waiter was right on top of the drinks, refilling waters, etc. They also have two cute rooms for parties that do not want to sit at the cooking table so nice to have some privacy. I did not order the sushi so I cannot comment on it at all; looking forward to trying it next time though. Only complaints: couldnt find the designated parking area so we all ended up parked down the street (not a big deal) and the acoustics are limited so the screaming children at the other tables reverb'd throughout the place (not solely an issue with the restaurant, some parents think they are in a plastic bubble). The acoustic could possibly be an issue on a packed Fri or Sat.

Great service and food. A bit of a wait for 2 for Hibachi this Wednesday night but worth it. Had hibachi chicken and sirloin steak. Boyfriend who doesn't eat Asian food loved it and ate my serving of chicken on top of his. I enjoyed the spicy tuna roll and the miso soup. Check in via foursquare for 10 back with Amex. Hibachi show was ok - some fancy knifework and volcano. Tip: If where you are sitting is cold, just ask the waitress to close the vents that they open when the chefs are cooking.

Ok place for sushi or hibachi. Nothing outstanding...but good. I know the name is supposed to conjure up beautiful images of the eternal Mt. Fuji in Japan, but for some reason always think of Mr. Fuji. Hey, at least the waiter never threw salt in my eyes! ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr… ) ( scorpiondeathblog.files.… )

We were very disappointed on our recent visit. We visit Fuji about once a year. My children (two boys ages 13 and 11) recently returned from summer camp and wanted to go. I must say that upon entering we were struck by the fact this place really seems to have hit the skids. The decor and atmosphere really seems to have seen better days. It is a bit seedy and worn. It has that sticky feeling everywhere you turn. Once seated, our server was abrupt when arriving to take our drink order. Upon leaving us she ran about the restaurant like a chicken with its head cut off (perhaps they were understaffed, but I think it was simply inefficiency.) If she were productive it would have been fine, but she just seemed to be inefficient and abrupt. Our drink order did not appear for a very long time (the waitress finally mentioned to us, in passing, that they were busy, yet they did not appear to be that busy to us.) Once the drinks arrived, we finally got to put in our food order. The food was good, although we feel overpriced and not a very good value. The soup was a very watered down, non-descript broth with a few sliced mushrooms and scallions in it. The salad was a very small, but seemingly fresh, bowl of iceberg lettuce and one cherry tomato. The utensils provided are chopsticks and a fork, but we needed a knife to cut the large pieces of lettuce, so it could be eaten without seeming "inelegant." The meal was, to be fair, tasty, however, the portion control seemed to vary quite a bit from plate to plate. We all - including my two boys - left being quite disappointed with the overall experience. I don't think we will return unless there is an effort to make improvements in the overall experience. There are better places and much better values out there.

4.5 stars for this place. So I have to admit that I really like Hibachi restaurants. The food is always good and I enjoy the silly cooking acrobatics and antics. So one thing most other Hibachi places I have been skimp out is with the soup and salad. Some of them are downright terrible. This place is the total opposite. They had one of the best Miso soups I have ever had. It was very clearly homemade and done perfectly. The salad was mostly iceburg lettuce, but it was at least fresh. The dressing was really great though and I usually hate salad dressing. I'm not sure what they call it, but it was a little tangy and went well with the meal. For my entree I had the fillet with the scallops. Both were cooked just like I asked and had a great flavor. They also used high quality meat which I have found to not always be the case. The scallops also tasted very fresh. The fried rice was good and the vegetables were cooked perfectly. The only thing I was disappointed in was the cook. He was not very entertaining and only did a couple tricks. He did the volcano with the onions and flipped an egg into his hat. Other than that he just cooked the food like a normal person. I much prefer the guys who are flipping utensils all over the place and tossing food around while cracking cliche jokes in broken English. I mean if all I wanted was some steak and scallops I could have gone to a lot of other places. Overall it was a great meal and a good evening.

This was a great teppanyaki place. Medium size dining room with nice decor give it a slightly upscale feeling. Everything felt clean and well taken care of. Went with a rather large group of co-workers. I was impressed at how well they handled our group. Service was prompt and very attentive. As for the food...DELICIOUS! Nothing was under or overcooked and the flavors were spot on. This kind of entertaining meal doesn't come cheap though so keep this in mind. I'd love to return sometime when I have the money to burn :)

Where do I start? Apps: the Miso Soup there is DELICIOUS. The salads are OK if you're used to their dressings, but otherwise I wouldn't recommend it. Main: They have excellent sushi, but sadly it's not cooked in front of you. The fried rice is awesome, as are the steak, sushi and chicken. These are cooked on a stove in front of you by one of their incredible chefs. Dessert: Deep fried ice cream is OK, but it's likely you won't be hungry for dessert anyway.

The atmosphere here is just okay the chefs are okay too... But the food is pretty good!! I tried this place once because of a groupon, and will come back again!!

I have been to Fuji a couple of times during the past month, and overall think they do a good job. The Teppanyaki is a lot of fun especially for kids. My 3 year old loved watching the chef prep the food, and both chefs were friendly and put on a good show. Each chef seems to do slightly different tricks which is kind of fun, especially if you visit often. As other people mentioned, the Miso soup is fantastic. The salad is iceberg lettuce with a very nice Asian ginger dressing. The service is definitely mixed - fairly observant but not always friendly. As for the food, the fried rice is Amazing! For meats, we tried the chicken, beef, and calamari. Everything is well prepared, though I enjoyed the chicken the most. The beef was not prepared with as much sauce, but they do provide a couple of additional sauces for dipping. The vegetables that come with each dish are fresh, varied, and delicious. One thing that struck me as kind of odd is that the staff seems to be mostly Chinese even though they bill themselves as a Japanese steakhouse. So, I question the Japanese authenticity of the place, but I guess it doesn't really matter. Overall, they do a good job. This won't be a regular spot for us, but a fun spot for food and a little entertainment once in a while.

I have only been to Fuji once but would definitely go again. I have not yet had the hibachi, but the sushi was better than I expected. The fish tasted and looked fresh. The side salad and miso soup were above average compared to other places I have been. The downsides of my dining experience were the number of loud children running around the restaurant, which took away from the dining experience, as well as the price was a bit on the high side. I would recommend Fuji as a great place for a family dinner night, but too loud for a date night.

I love going to Fuji for their lunch specials. 2 maki rolls, miso soup, and a small salad with the delicious Japanese ginger dressing, with tip for about $13 or so. This is a great place to get your sushi fix for a low price.

Four stars, based on my experience and expectations. Anyone visiting the Fuji Steak House has to start with those two ingredients before entering the place or sitting down. It's not one of those super premium places featuring massaged Kobe beef medallions from pedigreed purebred cows. No, it's steak - tasty and flavorful - and the experience of sitting around a chef preparing your meal at your table. It's as much show, as dinner. Came here with a group ranging in age from 7 to 75 and fortunately there was something for everyone. Before the show I had some better than passable miso soup, followed by the sirloin teppanyaki. And then the show...not much narration but lots of color. It featured knife tossing, eggs crashing and an onion volcano igniting - enough to keep us entertained as we watched dinner being prepared. Points to the chef for asking how everyone wanted their meals prepared and for getting them right...without writing them down...and in the midst of the entertainment. The steak..mine was tender, medium, as I had ordered it, and the vegetables came with just enough flavor not to overpower the meat. And, I know it's unusual to compliment the rice at a place like this...but the fried rice was really really good. Dessert (this was a birthday party) included the ice cream tempura, a pretty standard vanilla covered in just enough batter to make it tasty and memorable. Prices for entrees are reasonable, especially compared to places in Boston - my meal came to a shade over $30 and there is a kids menu for the youngsters. Despite the traffic there I found it pretty spotless. If one does bring children it's best to warn them about what they'll see beforehand. Sitting in such close proximity to the chef might also be a bit uncomfortable for those who don't want to be near an open flame...ask for a booth instead. Fine haute cuisine dining it may not be. But dinner at the Fuji Steak House is tasty. And the experience is lots of fun. Worth a trip.

If you've ever worked in a restaurant, you are probably familiar with the staff meal. Essentially, the kitchen whips up a modest repast for servers and crew, usually before the shift begins. I'm bringing this up because I'm pretty sure that the staff meal at Fuji Steak House was spiked with methamphetamine. Each server, each chef was charged with a frantic energy, culminating in the single goal of getting us the hell out of there. Allow me to backtrack. I came here with family and friends to celebrate my Dad's birthday. The first odd thing was our seating arrangement. Each chair was squished tightly next to its neighbor, essentially turning the seating process into a pickup game of Twister. I was glad I had showered and used my *good* deodorant, as my neighbors and I were about to get up close and personal. (You guys might want to try the sniff test before coming here.) It was as if a starting pistol was fired. Our server bustled over, much like a thoroughbred out of the gate, asking for our drink order. The expression on her face was as if someone had farted. I was a little perplexed, as there was no drink menu, but figured 'what the hell,' and ordered a glass of cabernet and some water, the latter I had to request a few times to procure. As soon as the drinks were served it became clear that it was time to order dinner. Now. No delay. Indecision would not be tolerated. Our chef arrived, and he really wasn't that interested in displaying the kind of showmanship I've seen at other Japanese steak houses. Things actually seemed to go a little awry, as random bits of food began to soar in the wrong direction, some landing on the floor. Dinner was served in a haphazard fashion, with some folks at the table receiving waaay too much food, while others wound up with a sliver of zucchini and an anemic portion of protein. Once the food was hastily cooked, our chef pretty much fled. And actually, the fare was really, really good. I truly enjoyed my dinner. Well, the taste, at least. Within twenty minutes, various staff members were attempting to wrest our plates from our hands. I guess they were tweaking. Meth does that, you know. "You done yet? You done yet?" was the repeated quasi-command. I finally gave up trying to finish my dinner and surrendered my plate. Let's pause for a moment. I'm trying to give you a general idea of how rushed we were, how we were practically pushed out the door. I know it seems a little nit picky. And if it were only this, the food itself would have allowed for at least a two or three star review. It takes a lot to piss me off. Really. What truly made this a one star experience was that as they barreled down the aisle, the manager and some other random server practically ran over my 87 year old, widowed grandmother as she tried to get out of her chair. The woman is like, four foot eight inches tall, and maybe 90 pounds soaking wet. She needlepoints, for the love of god. I honestly don't care if the staff is rude to me. They can snap at me, throw food at my head, and criticize my shoes. I can take it. But mess with my Nana, and that crosses a line. Don't. Fuck. With. My. Nana. I'm a nice gal, and I try to offer the benefit of the doubt to someone who offends me. Therefore I'm convinced that there must have been a reason why Batman and Robin were ok with knocking an octogenarian aside - obviously they were trying to save a baby seal from being clubbed. Or maybe they needed to lift a tractor off some paraplegic children. Or maybe they were hell bent on rescuing a throng of Cambodian lepers. I mean, there's got to be SOME REASON why it was acceptable to get rough with my grandma. So in the end, while I do feel the indelicate treatment of my only surviving grandparent warrants one star, I bestow this dubious honor upon Fuji Steak House because they have miscreants clubbing seals, a colony of lepers, and mistreated challenged people tucked away somewhere in the recesses of their kitchen. I mean, that's just weird. And not really professional. Reality is harsh. I know. The moral? Drugs kill, man.

We usually come here for sushi which is really good if you like the western style sushi with all kinds of sauces etc. Hibachi is decent and deserts just average. The sushi chefs always come up with some exciting special. Ambiance is ok. A lot of families with children on Saturdays. Definitely recommended.

I don't care how good the food is, when I have 3 small children and call ahead of time to see if there is a wait and are told "no, just come in, you don't need a reservation", then are made to wait an hour to sit, plus another 30 to eat anything, we will not return. Beware of customer service.

Ok so I literally just came back from there to pick up my 13 bucks worth of sushi. I was in a happy mood gave the guy my credit card. Looks at it looks at me and says theres a 15 dollar minimum on credit cards. Um... I was never aware of that nor did i ever have a problem when i picked up my usual order. Ive always thought that it was illegal for business to have a min. on credit cards. I love there food and all but seriously who carry s around cash? i dont.

Absolutely no redeeming point to this place. First off, my guest and I ordered water - when it FINALLY came, it tasted funky. Needless to say, I could gag on it and sent it back for tea. Usually, I'm not that picky, but trust me, it was *that* bad. Secondly, the amount of time it took for our food to come, when we were the only patrons ordering sushi was annoying. The quality? Not worth the price. The worst thing of all, however, was that a half hour before closing (we were seated in the sushi area) one of the sushi chefs started cleaning his area, i.e. obnoxiously loud placing dishes into the plastic bin to be sent downstairs (was he trying to break them?!), the staff noisily speaking in Chinese while my guest and I were desperately trying to salvage the evening, and that they *started cleaning the floors while we were still there*. Honestly, the smell of bleach was so strong we couldn't even finish our last maki. Yes, I understand if you discreetly want to start your clean up process but don't do it while ruining my meal. Needless to say, this restaurant lost some sushi-fanatics, and I hope others are deterred and avoid the experience we had.

WORST NIGHT EVER Had reservations for 7:00. Party of 8. Was not seated until 7:45. The waitress was rude..Made it clear that she didn't want to be there. As far as the chef.....even worse. He was throwing food all over the table. I know it a hibachi place but I don't like the food on my lap. He was not interacting with the customers as most places will. Couldn't get a refill on my drink until i was done eating....WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS PLACE.........

Great sushi for the area - especially at the bar. Lunch specials are uninspired but good enough. Hibachi looks good for quality and quantity but not my thing. Prices are reasonable and staff is very nice!

So really they get a 4.5 for the taste of the food, but only 2.5 for presentation. And at a hibachi place, presentation matters more, so thus the lower average. Food seriously was delicious for hibachi. The miso soup was so flavorful, and the salad/salad dressing was very good as well. I had the filet mignon with fried rice and all the veggies and bean sprouts and stuff, with shrimp appetizer (3 shrimp), all very good. My boyfriend had scallops too and I tried them and they were good too. My biggest problem here is the hibachi presentation was not creative or entertaining at all. I've been to two other hibachi places and have been very impressed with all the cool things the chefs can do. But here they barely did ANYTHING cool, a few knife tosses, the onion volcano, but really that was it. Very disappointing. It was like one of two places open on Christmas Eve in Needham, so that was convenient for me, but I probably wouldnt make a point of going again, until maybe next Christmas Eve!

I like a good Teppanyaki place. I really do. Especially if they serve a fine Mai Tai. And at $8.00 the Mai Tai had BETTER be fine. (It was.) Fuji Steak House in Needham Center should have been a good place to go. The chef's performance is top notch. The food is equally as good as Kiku Yama in Dedham, and Hibachi in Norwood. But there is one thing that stands out in Fuji Steakhouse. The waitresses. On our first visit, the waitress spilled Soy Sauce on my colleague who was sitting next to me. All over his jeans. No apology. No corrections on the bill... just some napkins handed to him. I'm serious here. That's how she handled it. Willing to forgive and forget the same basic party went again today. The (different) waitress, who seemed nice enough, completely disregarded our Sushi order. It never came. She took the sheet - but we got no sushi. But the real issue here is the issue of tax and tip. We got our bill. Five people. $100.74. That's AFTER tax. We pooled our money together and somehow ended up with $109.00. You might say "Geez, you guys were cheap there, on that optional thing you didn't actually have to do." Yes. I did say "optional". In no law, nor in any civilized society, is a TIP anything other than a voluntary gift to a waiter or waitress or some other service person for putting on extraordinary service. So disregard for a moment the fact that, BEFORE tax, our tip was adequate at 10%, but inadequate if society has conditioned you into believing a 15% tip is mandatory... put that aside for a moment. We got up to leave, and the waitress came back, stopping us, complaining about the total. Oops. Did we miscount the $20s? It's possible... so we recount. "Look," I paraphrase what she said. "There's only 9 dollars here." At which point I SHOULD have politely noticed our mistake and said "Oh, you're right. You are OWED $100.74." At which point we should have taken BACK the $8.26 in difference and left. I was seriously hoping she had simply miscounted the $20 bills and had a legitimate complaint that we had underpaid the total. But no... we had overpaid the total comfortably. Instead we simply made a comment, again, paraphrasing, "Seriously? You're complaining about the TIP? We got no sushi which we ordered, our service was not overall very good, and you stop us from getting up in order to complain that we only left you $8.00 more than we owed this establishment."? Well, that IS paraphrasing... So once outside we each looked at each other sadly, saying "Well, write off one more joint." NEVER AGAIN. If you're in the mood for Teppanyaki and are in the Needham area, drive the extra 15 minutes to Dedham and go to Kiku Yama instead.

While I have had good meals in past tonight was so awful felt a warning was needed. Had reservations ,was seated a full hour after. Then a half hour passed before anyone came over to take a drink order. In that time not one of the main tables (there are 4)had a chef. When I finally received my meal, never received the drink I ordered, the food had a chemical taste. Absolutely inedible. There was no apology no anything including even a thank you as we left past the managers. Very poor management and planning on the restaurants part.

My friend really wanted to go to a hibachi place for his birthday. It was difficult for me to find one in the city that was not a chain located in a Marriot, so we made the drive out to NEEDHAM. Even though I didn't know what to expect and was nervous about choosing a bad restaraunt, my friend thoroughly enjoyed himself and it was exactly what he wanted. It didn't take us long to receive a hot towel from our hostess once we took our seats. The drink and food orders for the entire grill were taken at one time which was efficient and time saving. We all ordered a hibachi meal which came with salad, soup, and shrimp. Each was delivered to us with an ample amount of time to finish each one. We also ordered two sushi rolls: Idaho (sweet potato - my favorite!) and the Spicy Salmon Maki which had tempura flakes and was oto spicy for me. My friend thought it was great. It was delicious, but I am a super taster so don't go by what I say in regards to spicyness. The chef that prepared our meal was very entertaining and kept all our orders straight - which amazed me. He was cooking for 9 people at once! becaues it's more entertaining to be surprised. I don't want to spill the chefs meal prep tricks I had the chicken hibachi was was served with white rice, veggies, chicken and two types of sauces which complemented the meal nicely. My friend who had the sirloin hibachi also enjoyed his meal and left nothing on his place. Since it was his birthday, he wsa given complementary fried ice cream which was delicious. He was also given the choice of whether or not he wanted to be sung to. Since about 6 people had already been sung to that night and the staff was getting less and less interested in singing, it was a blessing that he didn't want a song. Parking in this area is easy since there is street parking and a lot behind the building. It's very easy to find since it is a straight shot off of exit 19B on 95. The food here was delicious and it is worth going over the atmosphere alone.

It was pretty quiet on Thursday night when we dined here. Parking was no issue, seating was a breeze, and we were served quite promptly! Even though we were the only people at our hibachi table they did not make us wait. That, to me, was awesome. Some places make you wait for others to arrive, but not so here! Our chef was awesome and made everything as we ordered. My ultra picky dinner date even enjoyed his meal! The bar was super cute in the alcove with the big flat screen tv. I would watch a game here! The little pond was a nice touch. It separated the sushi room from the hibachi room. Overall, a great restaurant in Needham.

Good food. Fun times. Nice atmosphere. Prices are decent. It's a really good time here. If you've never been to a Japanese steakhouse, take the time and go for dinner or for lunch, but if you can, go with a group of people. It's so much fun, and gives people a lot of fodder to talk about. If you don't want anything from the hibatchi, they have an extensive sushi menu. Have fun!

I went for lunch yesterday with co-workers. They get sushi take-out from here practically daily. Yesterday was my first time there, but I'll be back! Someone mentioned it's a little pricey here for dinner - but that does not apply to lunch! The service was speedy, and you can't beat a $10 hibachi. Half of us had the hibachi and the other half had sushi - and the portions of sushi were large. 8 pieces for about $10 I think.

My husband, cousin, and I tried this place and we had a very positive experience. I had not been to a hibachi place in a long time and thought it would be good for a chance. When we arrived there were a lot of groups there, but even though we didn't have a reservation we were seated within 15 minutes. Drinks at the bar were good. Seating was semi-cramped, but we still managed just fine. We ordered the fried raviolis and tempura chicken as appetizers and they were really really good (not heavy at all). Our dinners came with soup, which was in my opinion pretty tasteless, and salad which I enjoyed as well as my husband (he ate every bite) and my cousin. Our chef was nice, but not too overbearing. The meal does come with shrimp (which I don't eat anyways) but my cousin said was good. For dinner I had the friend rice with filet mignon (as did my husband). My cousin had the steak and scallops. All the veggies were cooked perfectly (I hate when they are over-done) and the filet was so tender and delicious. Everyone in our party enjoyed their dinners and we would definitely return. It's a nice place to go for something different.

What can I say - my kids (ages 3 to 9) think Fuji is the greatest, coolest, most fun restaurant in the known galaxy. The service is always kid friendly and geared to entertain. I find the food to be just so so and it's not really my bag to be seated with another party I don't know around the same grill.

I really enjoy this place! It's a bit pricier, but definitely a fun gathering. I'm not aware of another Hibachi place in the area, and I've been a couple different times, with similar results. The sushi I've had has also been tasty. I recommend the chicken and shrimp, particularly. The waitstaff is always friendly. There isn't usually a wait. They refill the water frequently. Really just somewhere you should at least try it once, just for the hibachi experience.

What an atmosphere. The chefs cook up your meal right in front of you using all their skills and trickery. It's surely a sight to see, albeit only a few minutes, but well worth the take. Food was excellent. Plenty to go around. Price is comparable to the food so you shouldn't feel cheated. Fresh grade sushi is always a plus. Recommend.

Went here for my brother's birthday. The sushi is extremely well made here. And if you order the raw stuff it comes in huge cuts, not the small cuts you might be used to at your local sushi place. But if you are not into the sushi you can always order the udon or the katsu both of which are very good. Just a solid Japanese restaurant. You will not be disappointed.

I was here for hibachi last week. Among the 8 of us, we probably sampled most of their habachi entries. The presentation was excellent but no so for the food. We were here a few times for sushi, which I think is far better than the habachi experience. I'd give their regular sushi a 4 star and habachi a 2 star, for a combined rating of 3.

Burn! baby Burn! What a great place to take friends for dinner. Everyone sits around the grill, while the chef cooks your dinner before your eyes and entertains the crowd with daring acts of shrimp tossing and "onion volcanoes"! AWESOME! The Toro sashimi is delicious and the miso soup is homemade (onions, garlic and scallions). The Hibachi dinner specials are where it's at! Miso soup, salad, shrimp appetizers, rice and meat or fish for $20 - $30 dollars! Not to mention the flames right in your face! The fillet mignon was cooked perfectly, with a light marinade. While the monk fish was saturated in sesame-soy dressing, but managed to be delectable. Who can deny fried rice prepared before your eyes?! For lovers of the BBQ flame, this is the fun place to be. Considering that this is now the closest Japanese steak house to Boston... we are so lucky!

I've been going to Fuji's for a couple of years now. I use to primarily seat at the habachi tables but lately have been sitting in the sushi area. My boyfriend and I have just found there to be a lot of kids at the habachi tables and often we're going there as sort of a date night so we select the quieter sushi area. The food there is always really yummy and I love their saki. I'd have to agree with other users that their miso soup is Amazing and there salad is rather lackluster. Their dressing is just a little water and doesn't have the same flavor that most japanese restaurants have. They have a great selection of sushi and some creative rolls. I always leave there completely stuffed. The service is okay... They are always prompt and very courteous. Unfortunately I think sometimes they don't understand everything you are saying so they happen to just smile and nod or ask if everything is okay and just walk away not really caring what you have to say. Overall though I love this place and highly recommend it to other people.

Best sushi I've ever had period! I've had a lot of sushi and I never would of thought that the best would be in the suburb of Needham! I've come here for both lunch and dinner. During lunch they have a great lunch special where you can get 2 rolls, soup and salad for 8 or 9 bucks (depending on which rolls you order). My favorite rolls and the Idaho roll and the Needham Maki. Service is always quick and friendly and the place is busy, but not so busy where there is a long wait for a table. If you come with a large party sometimes they will seat you in a private room which always makes you feel special. Great food, great drinks, great service, what more can you ask for?

The food was excellent. I love Hibatchi style places, they're so good. The prices were reasonable and the atmosphere is fun. The wait staff was a bit pushy, but they want to get you in and out so they can get more people seated. It's a great place to go with a group as it's fun, but not a great place if you want to talk to each other.

Fuji Steak House is a nice restaurant with personality. The Teppanyaki (think Benihana's) were friendly. Eventhough we did not sit at the Teppanyaki tables (makes for hard conversation), I could tell that people at the tables were having a good time. The teppanyaki chef's were friendly and the show they put on was enjoyable. We ordered the assorted sushi (all fresh), soft shell crab appetizer (really good - highly recommend), seaweed salad, beef & chicken teriyaki (served with miso soup and salad). The salad had a citric ginger dressing that was pretty good. The teriyaki dinners also came with a side of veggies (baby carrots, broccoli and 2 large asparagus spears). For dessert we had deep fried ice cream. The ice cream was a large ball of vanilla dipped in a tempera-like batter. The servers were friendly and helpful. They were attentive and made sure the tea cups were filled. There was a really small 6 stool fully stocked bar there too. The men's room was very clean and well maintained and stocked. The facilities include a double clear glass sink, 1 stand up and 1 handicap sitter.

The food is pretty great and that goes for sushi and hibachi. Being that it's about a mile from our house and by far the closest Japanese restaurant, I enjoy the convenience factor. However, points have to be deducted for ridiculous waits - this is in spite of making reservations. When staff are confronted with this, they have just said that "it's busy" - not acceptable. Hello, I made a reservation! Why would I have bothered if I still have to wait for 40 minutes?

We had dinner last night, 8 people. We sat around an Hibatchi table and were entertained by the Japanese guy who tried to make our dinner. We took some Maki rolls (the vegeterian with cucumbers and avocado was fresh and delicous). We had a few Hibatchi dishes : Chicken, Steak, Chicken&Steak combo, Tofo. Each Hibatchi dinner comes with some soup (pretty boring, but vegeterian), 3 shrimps, rice (you can choose white or fried. The fried rocks!) The chicken and the steak were delicous. The tofu was so-so. The guy who cooked wasn't very professional, he tried to impress us with his movements and cook skills but it was not very impressive. Good value, great for groups. You can also take the sushi plates and have a light dinner. A little bit on the pricey side but very good.

While the sushi was fine, everything else was so bad I couldn't eat there again. We ordered oodon noodle soup, asked for vegetarian, got soup with chicken, scallops, shrimp, fish, tofu, and an entire egg...literally they dropped an entire egg into the soup so the yolk was still mushy and the white was enormous. They also forgot an order of sushi (we picked up) and the lettuce in the salad was brown. We usually love Fuji but this was enough to not return.

I finally made it to Fuji for a work birthday lunch last week, and I enjoyed it more than some other typical birthday lunch spots -- maybe with the exception of Friendlys. Need a sundae on your birthday. The food is cooked literally right in front of you. So close in fact that you'll feel the heat of the flames on your face. It did seem weird that we were discussing Jackass 2 and potato guns right over the chef; I felt like he should be in the conversation, or we should just be paying attention to his cooking. Maybe for that reason I wouldn't come back here often, but the restaurant is very nice, the service is excellent and the food was good and plentiful (try the Fuji Special and some Crunchy Rolls). I'd definitely visit again for a work function.

Decent Japenese habachi joint. watching the chefs cook is amusing. Its fun to watch them make the onion volcano. The service is nice and helpful. The chef are very entertaining. Good for lunch or dinner. I would opt for the fired rice over the steamed it is prepared very well and not goopy.

Very good sushi and Japanese entrees. The staff is very friendly and the owner always makes sure to talk to the patrons. I live in Needham so eat here frequently. The decor could use an update so I docked one star. Highly recommended and very family friendly.

Tried this place for lunch around 1:15 pm on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Was shocked to see that we were the only party in the teppanyaki area. Service was quick and attentive. The food was seasoned well and cooked to perfection. Our chef was not the most personable or entertaining, but it suited us just fine as we have been to teppanyaki/hibachi places many times before and were not there to be entertained -- we were there just for the food this time. The prices were very reasonable. Lunch was $30 for the two of us which is very inexpensive for a teppanyaki place. We were pleased and will return.

This place opened up recently (within the past 6 months). Its kind of like dinner + a show. You sit around a grill, and a chef comes out and cooks it for you in front of your eyes (depending on what you order). They do cool tricks with the spatulas, and toss the knives around and set things on fire. It looks really neat. Food is pretty good too. The stuff the chef cooks looks good (i had a terryaki tuna, which was kind of bland). And they have sushi there, and its good (try the eel and avocado roll). It is a little pricey, but then again, you pay for the chef to do his cool tricks. And, if you get drinks, they come in some cool glasses.

Food is great and the chefs are entertaining. I usually pay about $20.00-25.00 a meal. There are a lot of children on the weekends and can get very busy, If you are in Needham and looking for some good steak or Asian food this is the best restaurant around.

Let me preface this review by saying that I've eaten at Fuji Steakhouse many times. Mostly I get sushi, but a few times we've sat at the hibachi tables. Before tonight, I would have given the restaurant four stars. The restaurant closes at 10 Mon-Thurs. So tonight, two friends and I walk in at quarter of 9, figuring we had plenty of time. For a Tuesday night at 9 in Needham, the restaurant was pretty busy. They might as well have turned us away and told us they were closing because the entire time we were there they were trying to push us out the door. When we asked for a few sushi rolls as an appetizer the waitress said it was too close to closing. Confused, I said I was sorry, I didn't know they closed at nine. All she said was she guessed they could make the sushi. The hibachi was good, not fabulous, not as good as usual, but pretty good. The hibachi chef was cool. We got the onion volcano, which the table across from us said they didn't get. Every time we asked our waitress for something she acted like it was a huge inconvenience. While we were eating there were two waitresses standing in between our table and the table facing us talking and laughing loudly. After our plates were cleared, instead of asking if we'd like dessert, she handed us our check. It wasn't even 10:00pm! It was 9:45. When she handed my boyfriend the check for him to sign she stood behind him while he filled out the tip, total, and signed and, before he could put the pen down, she was taking it from his hands (I kid you not - literally... took it out of his hands) and looked at it as she was walking away. The whole experience was kind of insulting, and sad because I really do like this restaurant and also sad because we were taking an out-of-town guest out to dinner so it was also kind of embarrassing. All in all, I was disappointed with tonight's dinner, but don't let that deter you. The food is pretty decent and there aren't all that many hibachi places in boston. But the rumors are true, they aren't ashamed to let you know when it's time to go.

This place sits right in quaint downtown Needham and looks pretty large on the outisde but is pretty small on the inside. The staff is very friendly and I did notice the Yelp stickers in the windows on the way in. The place is set up like any Japanese Steak House and even the staff dresses the same. The bar area is not much to it, very compacted little area. The menu is pretty large with lots of great selections and the sushi here is decent. The show they put on is similar to the one in Dedham, same humor, same skits etc. These chefs all must be trained at the same place. Very fast service and always friendly. The place gets very crowded on weekends and because its Needham it is jam packed with families and kids. Food is excellent and there is plenty of it and you get a lot for the prices. The only thing I didnt like here was the annoying kids running around each table and even some of the annoying parents. OY!

Japanese food is best when one can focus on individual flavours. The idea being that much is lost when foods are mashed together (nacho bell grande anyone? Foods that are best described as "melty and crunchy" must turn a Japanese person's stomach). A Japanese steakhouse is an interesting twist, in that it makes eating Japanese food a less solemn experience (compare the silent reverence of people eating at Oishii with the boisterous insanity of, say, bugaboo creek). I went here with a friend for an early dinner on a Sunday. The restaurant was mostly empty, and we were alone at a hibachi table. The waiter took our order, which was calamari teppanyaki for me, sirloin teppanyaki for my friend and edamame for the both of us. We were promptly served miso soup, which tasted like every other bowl of miso soup I have had in my life, so its difficult to say if it was good or bad. It was certainly hot, if that makes any difference. The edamame was brought out, and I was surprised (stunned even) that it seemed to have been boiled, rather than steamed. The beans were soft and chewy, and the shells barely held together and were swollen with water. All in all, these mushy unsalted beans were sub par in my opinion. The salads were brought out next. In general the salads in a Japanese restaurant are pretty much the same, however even a novice food critic (but expert eater) such as myself could tell that this salad was mediocre at best. Maybe I'm spoiled by going to Ginza in Chinatown for lunch a couple times a week, and having their excellent version of this simple salad as my standard. The chef then came out and prepared for the spectacle. I had seen this show a number of times at a number of different steakhouses, and am always both impressed by the skill of the chef and unimpressed by the repetitiveness of the routine. Show me something unique, please, there are only so many times I can Oooh and Aaaah at an onion volcano. The fried rice was mediocre but as always sweet from vinegar and salty from the soy sauce. The three "appetizer" shrimp (which I was served after the rest of the food, for some reason) were a nice touch. The vegetables were crisp, which was nice because I am accustomed to them being much soggier and less flavourful. My calamari was the heart of the dish, and I feel in retrospect that it was inexpertly prepared. It was beyond chewy, and while it was pleasantly flavoured I noticed that as it cooled down (which was very rapidly) it lost much of its texture and flavour. My friend was pleased with his sirloin, and may have had a very different experience given him being somewhat less experienced at such restaurants. Throughout the meal the waiter was attentive and quick to refill the green tea, a pleasant touch. The bill was fair and service prompt, and I lingered to drink my green tea and watch the fight on the bar tv.

I've been to Fuji Steak house three times now in the past six months and have been satisfied every time. We have yet to sit in the large cooking table area, instead opting for more privacy by the sushi bar. They also have japanese style private rooms which seem fun. The food is as good as the atmosphere. I've stayed with the full course japanese dinners, the filet and scallops are my favorite. My wife likes the steak and shrimp equally as well. The service is quick and the wait staff is very attentive. It feels like a well-run place and I'm sure will do quite well attracting customers from Needham as well as neighboring towns.

The atmosphere is wonderful! Once you get inside you are greeted with a beautiful Koi pond and small waterfall. The whole restaurant is decorated in warm hues, and feels very cozy, but very Japanese at the same time. The food is really good, the sushi is great as well, very fresh. Some of the food isn't quite as good as it could be, like the meat could be a little more tender, but all in all it is good dining. I found the people who prepare the food in front of you were not as practiced as some of the other restaurants I've been to, but this place beats out Bisuteki hands down!

i just got back from lunch with my mom and brother. The place wasn't very crowded and we were seated right next to the sushi bar. We order from the lunch specials and I had a very tasty America Maki (shrimp tempura) and spicy yellow tail roll. Mom and bro were both impressed with the rolls they got and fiji didn't skimp. We've been to a lot of sushi places around Boston - and this is a gem for a very affordable lunch if you live in the area.
