Favorite local spot. Best dive chinese, bang for your buck. Love the staff, always remember our fav orders

Food here is definitely less "Japanese" and more "Asian-American." Not necessarily a bad thing if you're a picky eater or aren't a fan of spices/seafood, but it's definitely not authentic fare. Despite the moderate prices, large menu, and interestingly-decorated interior, the food was lacking in flavor, and more fried/greasy/uncreative. The sushi was pretty standard. Fish didn't taste particularly fresh on our visit, or featured imitation/pre-cooked seafood, the kind you'd expect to pick up at a local grocery market. I tried a "spicy beef" and rice dish, which was decent, but definitely not spicy and pretty greasy. My date tried an eel dish, which was lacking in flavor (one of the worst he's tried). Next time, we'll take our dinner plans elsewhere.

The sushi was nice and fresh, quite good but the seats and glasses were a bit dirty and the ambiance could be better. It was a bit chilly in there but that's coming from a guy who lives in the mountains and craps ice cubes so you might call it frigid.

My co worker n I came in at 9pm for a late dinner. We realized that the place closed in a hour so we tried to eat fast. The staff was very polite and did not rush us at all. I order a few pieces of sashimi and hand rolls. You could tell that the fish was very fresh. I would definitely recommend this place

This place must be a local hang out because it was full of people. The food was average. The decor was pleasing but nothing special. It had sushi and Chinese selections. Prices were average.

GREAT SUSHI! Shanghai's Sushi Chefs are young, creative and just really good at what they do! The sushi is fresh and just delicious. Try the Black Dragon roll, Spicy Tuna and Golden Dragon with Tuna on top ... AWESOME It is a small restaurant and that is the charm of this place! The wait staff is kind and food is good.

It's your typical chinese american cuisine. Nothing too exciting or different or creative. Having said that, their food is pretty decent. I like their orange chicken, scallion pancake, crab rangoon, their ginger soy sauce. Service is also decent. It gets crowded over the weekend. Never tried their sushi.

Came here alone tonight to have Steph time, study time and sushi time. It has been perfect. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with polite servers and delicious food. I started with a small hot and sour soup with was filled with vegetables and flavored perfectly. I followed with the spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls with hamachi sashimi. Can't wait to come back with friends!

I go here all the time and figured it was time for a review. Service is fast, people are friendly. Food is very good (always get the Bento box lunch special with chicken Katsu). One waitress who works there all the time (every time I am there she is working) always gives me a warm greeting. Would recommend to all.

I usually order the California maki lunch special and am always happy with it. I've had some of their other sushi, as well and it's always pretty fresh. Overall, I'd recommend this spot as a good local place to dine or take out.

My fiancee and I go here at least twice a month. The staff has started to recognize us and anticipates our drink order :) We usually go for sushi but sometimes go for the Chinese food. The sushi is always fresh and wrapped well (no rolls falling apart here!). The flavors are good - definitely try the spicy salmon roll. If you're in the mood for something hot - go for the Orange Chicken. Only downside is that rice is extra for any of the hot dishes, so be prepared for that. Worth a try - come check it out!

Don't be fooled by all those good reviews here. Services were below average standard and sushi and Chinese food were not even close to what I was expecting. I'd rather spend my money somewhere else with at least better services.

I love this place. Best in Natick. Chicken wings are so crispy and the Peking ravs are perfect. My other favorite thing there is the spicy tuna roll

Shanghai Tokyo is marginally better than decent. The food is fine, the folks who work there are responsive and respectful, and delivery has always been consistent. I took off the first star because the food is just OK. I reserve perfect ratings for places I really love. There's nothing wrong with the food, but it isn't the best I've ever had. I took off the second star because the most recent time my husband and I ate at the restaurant a couple of funky things happened. The weirdest one was that our chopsticks smelled strongly of burned wood. I have eaten with bamboo chopsticks on four continents (literally all over the world) and I have never experienced that before. The odor was strong enough that it lingered on our hands after holding the chopsticks. I thought I could deal with it and tried to eat a few bites of my seaweed salad, but the smell completely overwhelmed the smell/flavor of my food. I told our server what was happening and she at first tried to convince us that bamboo always smells that way. I asserted that no, bamboo does not usually smell of burned wood. In her defense, I think she genuinely couldn't smell the offensive odor because she seemed puzzled and not at all dishonest. She flagged down the other three servers on the floor and had them individually smell the chopsticks. Each of them made an "I just smelled something unexpected and weird" face and so we felt vindicated. Fortunately the restaurant had an unopened bag of chopsticks that had come in on a different shipment. They exchanged our tainted chopsticks with fresh, bamboo scented chopsticks and it was no big deal. But then one of the rolls I ordered never showed up. At first I thought it was taking a little longer because it was a specialty item, so I waited a solid 20 minutes before flagging someone down to ask about it. It turned out that the server who took our order was on her second day of training and she had missed the item when she transcribed our order from the laminated sushi sheet onto the order that goes to the chef. Ok, not a big deal, I understand that mistakes happen. I waited for another ten minutes and the maki roll finally arrived. It was tasty, but probably not worth the 30 minute wait. At the end of the meal when we received the check I was quite surprised to find that they charged us for the roll that was delayed in showing up. Even without the smelly chopstick incident, as a business owner I would never consider charging a patron for a food item that showed up 30 minutes late due to a staff error. I will still go back to Shanghai Tokyo because I can't imagine this perfect storm of weirdness could ever possibly strike twice in one place. But if I had another logistically convenient option for Chinese/Japanese dine in/delivery nearby I would chose to go somewhere else out of principle.

I'm going to go with "A-OK". Shanghai staff is polite but was a bit short with me when I arrived to place a to-go order. They aren't set up for waiting so I left and came back for my crab rangoon and egg roll. The rangoon were very bland. I was missing that scallion bite I look for in a decent fake crab puff. It came with some pretty terrible sweet and sour sauce as well. Our egg rolls were 3/4 fried to 1/4 egg roll fillings which was a bit disappointing. Was it horrible? No, not at all. Did I love it? Not really. I would suggest dining in and seeing if the service morale and overall food quality is better than the take out side of Shanghai.

Oh my I use to live only a few houses down from the , and this place has THE BEST SUSHI EVA!! Those that have never tried sushi before, or think they 'kind of like' sushi, BEWARE!! I've witnessed numerous people get hooked on sushi INSTANTLY and fall head over heels for this place.... Similar to going on a bender :-) It's kind of a small place with mostly booths. Speaking of benders, they do offer a small selection of regular domestic beer and some yummy Chinese beer too (for something different). Their service is quick and simple; the prices seem reasonable, especially for sushi. and best of all they have all your traditional sushi combos and many other variations (the tempura is the bomb by the way). The sushi menu is also very straight forward and self - explanatory, as well as their main take-out menu. They offer great lunch combos (good portions for the money by the way , and not just all rice) that are not only quick & simple, but also priced to combine with sushi. Even the take out containers used for sushi are sturdy, not to big or bulky, snap shut well, and even keep your left overs fresher longer. *The best part : They have the #1 best Hot & Sour soup in Metrowest! Inexpensive and hearty portions yummy!!!

A very nice find on a rainy night -- despite its location in a shopping center this spot felt very tranquil, sushi was very good, fresh, some inventive rolls. Attentive service.

Came here with my husband and three friends. We all had lo mein and only one person kinda liked it. Personally I thought it was just gross. Barely had any of it before I sent it back, (after telling my waitress I didn't like it she asks if I want to take it home. She said the same to my sister in law who also sent hers back. Made no sense but whatever.) then was given a hard time about getting it taken off the bill. They told my husband they couldn't cuz I had "already eaten more than half". Straight up LIE, eventually the manager took it off but the waitress was shooting my SIL and I daggers for complaining, whatever. In short, neither I nor anyone I was with will ever be back. Also I'm only giving this many stars because of the fact that my husband liked his meal, Mongolian beef, I thought it was really chewy though. The crab rangoons were okay, comparable to other Chinese places.

Used to go here all the time. Pretty inexpensive and not bad food. I usually got some vegetarian sushi rolls. I would not suggest any of the japanese dishes for the most part, they just end up tasting chinese. The miso soup is instant. I like the jasmine tea they serve.

If you are in the natick area there is only one place to get Chinese or Japanese food and it's here. Great prices, great food, clean restaurant and friendly staff. Big fan of the egg rolls and boneless spareribs. Also have a sushi bar with a lot of great options. Shanghai toks is the place.

Shanghai Tokyo still as excellent as ever. I just picked up some take-out yesterday. The reason I'm updating my review is in response to a recent smattering of what I consider to be inaccurate and unfair write-ups. The service is and always has been friendly and professional. The idea that they charge for extra soy sauce is absurd. Look, I'm no softie. You can read my other reviews and see that I don't mind criticizing a restaurant if I feel it's deserved. In fact, I detest a bad restaurant experience. It leaves me feeling angry, bitter and ripped off. But I can pledge with all honesty that out of the dozens of times I've eaten food from Shanghai Tokyo over the years, I have never once felt anything but pleased and satisfied.

  • Liv K.

I really don't consider myself a picky Chinese food eater, but the food here is just gross. We ordered Peking ravioli, beef lo mein and general gao chicken. The ravioli dough was extremely soggy and chewy. The lo mein noodles were also too chewy, and the chicken seemed to be 90% fried and 10% chicken with the fakest Orange color I've ever seen- it didn't even look like real food. My husband and I had seen the 4 star reviews on yelp before we called it in, but after eating just a few bites we both felt ill. It is without a doubt one of the top 3 worst Chinese food either of us has ever eaten.

The most delicious General Tao (Spelling?) , great chicken, tangy edge, silky smooth sauce, just right heat in the little red peppers,. just about perfect I think. Asked for delivery and it was as good as it could be...Just amazing...Watched the movie on Cable about the discovery of General Tao. Must watch for the sheer interest of how it might be to make a film like this.Chicken dish...a lot of fun to watch with friends and our order of GeneralTao.Must do again!

Not sure why so many people complain about the service here... I was seated moments after walking through the door, had a menu in my hand seconds after that, and the waitress came over to take my order as soon as I put the menu down. All I ordered was sushi and miso soup, but it was all very tasty. Can't speak to their Chinese food, but I will be back for the sushi.

Being a local from Natick, I have to say this place is amazing. Always friendly staff and very polite. There is nothing in the menu I don't like. Their sushi is amazing. Highly recommend the golden dragon roll or the spicy scallop maki. Absolutely delicious. Their Peking ravioli with their ginger soy sauce is out of this world. Sometimes for dinner I'll order two but well worth it. If you are looking for very tasteful food with a reasonable price check them out. You won't be disappointed!

    (4)
  • Brian F.

I usually stick to the sushi here and it is very good. It is my go to sushi place in Natick and service is always fast. I have only gotten take out and never dined in but everyone is generally friendly at the take out counter.

  • Shannon B.

First, I should mention that this review is only for delivery. I just moved to Natick from out of state and was really craving some good American Chinese grub. Based on all the excellent reviews, I chose Shanghai Tokyo. Boyyy do I wish I didn't! Such a complete fail. My food arrived almost cold, and it took more than an hour for delivery. Obviously the food had been sitting around because the egg rolls and crispy orange chicken were soggy and plain gross. Now, I'm not terribly picky when it comes to Chinese, and mediocrity is almost expected, but this was sincerely disappointing. I also ordered the Peking ravioli that other Yelpers raved about, but..they were just plain old dumpings, and didn't have much flavor. The sauces were watered down and the homemade sweet and sour was disappointing. The one and only good part of my meal was the Boston roll. The salmon tasted fresh and the wasabi was good quality. I'll have to continue my search for a decent Chinese joint in Natick.

  • Wheels R.

One if the better Chinese restaurants in Natick and their sushi is pretty good also. Went last night around 6:30 and placed was packed. Almost all tables full and a line for pickup at least 6 or 7 deep. We had a mix of maki rolls, Peking ravioli, a couple of main dishes and some fried rice. We didn't take any home because we finished it all !! They also serve beer and wine. I would recommend Shanghai Tokyo.

I quite like this place. It's cute and intimate, and the service is friendly without being overbearing. The lunch sashimi platter was fresh and a great deal for the price. The sake (salmon) was luscious and super tasty. I really enjoyed the unagi nigiri as well. The spicy scallop was phenomenal. Haven't tried the Chinese food so I can't speak for that.

Excellent all around... From the sushi to the General Gao's chicken, to the Shanghai Noodles, eggplant with garlic etc etc. I only wish I lived a little closer

Now I have never actually been to the physical location of Shanghai Tokyo but I order delivery from here all the time. I love me some chinese food and when I decide I want it, I need to have it. The hours here are great because I can get that fix even if I decide I want it at 8:45. I usually order the chicken teriyaki dinner which provides so much food I always have leftovers. You get chicken over noodles with a side of rice, a small salad and miso soup. That's a lot of food for $15! The noodles are actually my favorite part, I don't know what they're called or what sauce they're in but I could eat them forever. Hot or cold. However, make sure you specify that you want the chicken teriyaki dinner because I've made that mistake before and got the appetizer by default, and let me just say. It is not a thing anyone wants to eat. I also get sushi from here often, but seeing as I think fish is icky and don't even slightly see the appeal of eating it raw, I order the vegetarian sushi. I love me some Sweet Potato Tempura and that's a staple in my order. It's always good, albeit sometimes a little chillier than I had hoped. But I like to chalk that up to delivery time. The prices here are in line with most other Chinese/Japanese restaurants I've experienced and the delivery time is really fast. They say 40 minutes and they show up in 15. This is definitely my go to place for when I get that asian food craving.

    (4)
  • Cara C.

Great, reasonably priced food. I've only had delivery, never eaten in the restaurant but its always been fresh. Love their egg rolls along with anything else on the menu. You know the food is decent when the next day it is edible without being caked in congealed fat...which is usually how Chinese food looks after being refrigerated. Yuck! But not this place. I highly recommend.

  • Amber J.

To add to my other comment the owner even tried to charge me for extra soy sauce!! Excuse me arnt you a sushi restaurant?? Literally had to argue with him over 50 cents. Who charges for soy sauce!!?? Just becoming so cheap, please take your business elsewhere. Samba on rt 9 has really good sushi and good lunch specials! Unlike this place which has the worst lunch sushi specials and incredibly rude and cheap service.

    (1)
  • Richard G.

Solid food and service, but they have no liquor license. Yup, no Mai-Tais. Big problem for me. Also, the location isn't the greatest. It's in a strip mall, and the parking lot is tight. The food was good though.

    (3)
  • Ana R.

I've been here for eat-in and take-out and both times was delighted with the food. I really wish the prices were lower, as I'd be there all the time, but I know I'm paying for atmosphere (surprisingly cool for a strip mall joint) and the wait staff is super friendly and helpful. I'll definitely go again for a date, girls' night or dinner before a show.

    (4)
  • Jimmy M.

My son asked to come here, he tells me they have the best Peking ravioli ever. Oh, please! As if a mere 17 year old could possibly tell me where the best Peking ravioli come from! OK, I guess maybe he can. I might have had dumplings this good before, but I don't think I've had them better. We got the fried, not the steamed. They were a little smaller than I'm used to, which turned out making them easier to eat exactly half in one bite. Now I'm afraid regular dumplings re going to be too big from now on. I wish there were a few more with the order, doesn't that seem fair? We make our raviolis a little smaller, so here's an extra one! The menu is in two sections; the Chinese menu, and the Japanese menu that has all the sushi on it. I'll have to go back to try the sushi, we went Chinese this time, everything was top rate. I did go Japanese for my drink, I got the sake, served warm, delicious, served elegantly in a matching cup and serving flask. I do wish that flask was a little bigger, I suppose it was probably the proper size, but the only only other place I've gotten sake in served it in a bigger flask. Maybe it was more expensive, I don't recall. I just like by drinks bigger in general is what I'm saying. Maybe that's because I'm used to eating like an American glutton, and I'm not ready for proper, civilized portions? Maybe I'll just order two next time. It's in an ugly strip mall between a Dunkin Donuts and a dirty looking Tedeshci's, but it's a nice, new, clean looking place inside. Very nice atmosphere, small and intimate, casual, but not a bad place to take a date. I only saw one table that looked like it could seat more than two people, so if you're going with a group, better call ahead and see if they'll take a reservation. I read here that they don't, but I've you have six people going I bet they'd appreciate a call anyways. The service was very good, the waitress helpful with the ordering and attentive. The prices aren't cheap, but they're fair.

  • Margaret L.

Once upon a time a group of 6 friends ordered dinner. Shanghai Tokyo then proceeded to: - forget to tell us the final price - charge us more than the listed price - forget parts of the order - forget the receipt - refused to answer the phone for 10 minutes when we called to ask about the missing food and receipt - once they finally answered, transferred us three times - came back to deliver us the receipt without the missing items -laughed and would not listen to us as we explained our frustrations - scoffed at our 22% tip If you could tolerate any of this, their scallion pancakes are decent. The same can't be said for the bland pad thai, salty sushi, and luke warm soup. - provided tasteless pad thai

    (1)
  • L Z.

Greasy and uninspired. I've only had the take-out, but I've never had a good experience with it. Everything's very salty and greasy. Serving sizes are generous, but you're not going to want to eat all of it. Also, prices are quite high. The Chinese food is subpar (even by takeout standards), and they scrimp on vegetables and meat (lots of carbs thoguh). The sushi is okay, but you can get the same quality at your local grocers for much less. Overall, I don't recommend this.

    (2)
  • Mary A.

The food is good and the sushi is fresh. The service is terrible. I called during lunchtime to order sushi and they were out of rice??? Seriously? The best rolls they have are the New York and the Alaskan

This place was great! It was clean, very private, and tastefully decorated. Our hostess and waitress were very friendly, attentive, and prompt, even to the point of checking to make sure we were warm enough. How nice! The wait times were short - we got appetizers and hadn't finished them by the time the food arrived, but the waitress wasn't pushy or impatient at all. My girlfriend went with Japanese cuisine and I chose Chinese. For appetizers we got edamame and the chicken avocado spring rolls - juicy and delicious! My girlfriend got the black dragon maki which was great, definitely comparable to more expensive, higher profile sushi places. I chose General Gau's chicken, which was great, the chicken was tender and the sauce was flavorful without being overbearing, and they didn't overdo the frying. Finally for dessert we got green tea mochi ice cream, which was perfect to cool the palate after the spicy chicken! The bill was far more affordable than other sushi places I've been to with similar food. Personally I found the atmosphere and service very favorable to other restaurants with similar cuisine.

This place makes some excellent, basic American Chinese food. The best part about it is being able to grab standard American Chinese fare and tack on a couple maki rolls to the order as there aren't many places that provide both. The sushi may not be the best in the world but it's very tasty and very reasonably priced. The Chinese food is pretty standard if you're looking for the basics. The staff is very friendly and despite being a small restaurant the decor and environment is very inviting.

There is not much to say negatively about this little joint, I'm a fan and a frequent customer. Sometimes you find a place that is really good and want to tell everyone you know about it. Well...this might not be that type of place. I want it to stay under the radar and exactly how it is now. The small dining area is limited to probable 24 or so people tops and I think this adds to the restaurants over experience. When you dine here you are getting very good attention from waitresses ( some times too much ) fresh food, and beautiful assortments of sushi plates that are constantly being cranked out by the artist that works behind the fish counter. Shoved into the corner of a mini strip mall next to a convenience store and abutted by a dunkin donuts is probably not the best location and parking can sometimes be a challenge. But like i said earlier I believe this all adds to the charm. Its almost a secret spot right in the middle of Natick. With food like this and sushi at the quality and value they serve I cant believe this place doesn't require reservations. Give Shanghai a try but please keep it a secret i dont want to have to find another hole in the wall i love so much. The only reason why I did not give it 5 stars is because they will sometimes rush you and start cleaning while you are still getting through your meal. Again, this could be because of the small dining area and need to get the next person seated but it is a little annoying sometimes. Place is great though!

Love this place! Huge menu with an option for everyone. Good for takeout or to eat in. The staff is very friendly and make a genuine effort to know their regulars. We order from them about every other week so we have many favorite items. Our top recommendations are the Snow Mountain Maki roll, steamed Peking Ravioli, and Chicken and Mushroom. Give this place a try!

Went there today for lunch with my wife. Arrived at 2:53 P.M. Lunch is served until 3:00 P.M. I was given a dinner menu. Waitress came over at 2:57 P.M. I asked her for a lunch menu. She said no. I said it was not 3:00 P.M. yet. She looked at clock, and said she had to ask her manager. I said her lack of service was unacceptable, and walk out.

Shanghai I love you. You turned my immature like for sushi into a full blown love affair. I started to dabble in sushi a bit, but I hate paying big bucks for something I might not like, so most sushi places are out of bounds for me. This place has great sushi and more importantly, it's affordable and I don't have to drive all the way the hell into the city to get it. I am pretty sure they get their fish orders on Thursday, so I probably wouldn't go there on a Wed or Thursday for sushi. We've eaten the spicy hamachi, eel, tempura shrimp and scorpion rolls. I've also gotten the chicken fingers and scallion pancake. All were so good. It's a pretty small place (maybe 15 tables more or less on top of eachother. The service is great. The parking lot is a bit of a pain in the ass since it's in a strip mall (next to a Dunkin') with maybe 15 spots outside. 4 beers and 4 rolls came up to about $45. My only real complaint about this place is that the booths are pretty uncomfortable if you're there for more than an hour. Shanghai, don't change anything other than maybe putting fabric on your booths. Please don't raise prices. You've got a good thing going on here.

Having lived in the Metrowest area for over 5 years now, I can honestly say that Shanghai Tokyo has consistently provided great food, excellent service, and a friendly attitude. We like most everything we have tried, but the absolute favorites are Hot and Sour soup, spicy scallop maki, New York maki (with julienned apple inside, really awesome). We usually ask how long for delivery, and will go pick it up when it gets really busy. Unlike many others that have moved out here from the city in the last decade, we have not missed any of the Chinese/Japanese offerings of Cambridge and Boston (but for perhaps shao-long bao in Chinatown). A confession: we probably order from Shanghai Tokyo at least twice a month...and as I said in the beginning, it has been consistently wonderful for the last 5 years.

Good sushi and a nice Chinese food menu in a little strip mall. The staff is great, the prices are reasonable, and the service is prompt. Quick and easy sit down or take out!

I have occassionally do take-outs at this place. The owner seems nice, always friendly, then again, isn't that expected of an owner operator of a food service establishment? The food is okay for the burbs, not as authentic as one would get. But nevertheless, some of the dishes are tasty. The problem with this restaurant is its identity crisis. So is it a Chinese restaurant? a Japanese restaurant? or a Thai restaurant(they have Pad Thai on the menu)? I'd suggest stay away if you want Japanese or Thai, but do come here for Chinese.

This is our absolute favorite Chinese food in Metrowest. The staff (especially the owners) are very friendly and always say hi and ask how our kids are, and truly appreciate our business. Delicious sushi, and we always order Happy Family or Imperial Couple. Also love the Pineapple Scallops! Great egg rolls.

I'm picky when it comes to sushi, and this place does a real good job. Best sushi I've had in the area so far. They're really hospitable and one of the waitresses there has a superb memory. After only being there once (and with months in between) she remembered that I like sake and my fiance likes general gao's.

You won't confuse Shanghai Tokyo with chinese food from Chinatown. But remember the chinese food from your childhood? Classic american style chinese food, in a good way. Plenty of parking, low prices, nice people. A good find in the burbs.

The staff is so friendly and considerate; they'll go out of their way to accomodate you and will remember you every time you go back. The fried rice is HANDS-DOWN the best I have ever had anywhere and I have has a lot of fried rice. The fish they use in the sushi is always so fresh and delicious it has made it difficult for me to eat sushi anywhere else! Almost every sushi roll is above average ( except for maybe the spider roll-- too much lettuce) but I would 100% suggest their black dragon roll. The pan-fried noodles are amazing and the fried chicken is addictive, great seaweed salad and sweet and sour chicken. After eating here about twice a week for two years I would DEFINITELY suggest.

THE BEST (American) Chinese food in the MetroWest. After moving to Natick 5+ years ago, the wife and I discovered this place and have made it our "Go-To" spot for good Chinese. Hot and Sour soup, steamed Peking Ravioli and Crab Rangoon are must have appetizers. Chicken and Shrimp with Mixed Veggies is the wife's favorite and it never disappoints. I swear by the General's Chicken. Large portions and chicken is always deliciously tender. S&T's sushi also stacks up against anyone's in the area. Always fresh and never disappointed in taste. Service is great whether you are dining in or taking out.

This review is based strictly on Chinese take-out from this location. The restaurant itself is in a small strip-mall. You could very easily drive by this place and not even spot it. The parking lot gets tight so you're better off parking in dunkin donuts and cutting across. Overall, the food is average for these American/Chinese type establishments and is one of the best in the downtown/greater Natick area. There are some menu items that I find greasier than I would prefer and greasier than similar items found in other restaurants. Some of those items would be: the crab rangoons, chicken fingers, egg rolls (i know they're fried items but i feel like they have more of a grease factor than other places). And I have found the lo mein to be lacking in the taste department. Again, I find this to be an average "Chinese" food experience but do continue to get take-out here a few times throughout the year.

Updating my review after dinnertime experience. Definitely a different flavor. The restaurant does WAY too much chinese takeout biz. The folks have to go to the back of the restaurant so they cue up right down the aisles next to the tables. Stand their talking to each other, taking cell phone calls, etc. Not a pleasant experience. Net -- Food is still great, but this is a LUNCHTIME only place.

For really good sushi delivery I always call this place. Wicked good and fresh. I love their steamed pork dumplings too. They are always busy so that is good to see and I consider them my ole reliable for Chinese and Japanese cuisine.

To be honest, I was skeptical about ordering from a place that serves both Chinese and Japanese. But after reading through online reviews of Chinese restaurants in the area, I decided this one was worth a try. I'm glad that I gave it a shot, because I've ordered take-out from here twice and have been very pleased. Their crab rangoon is the best I've had up here, and their flat-noodle lo-mein is really good (I don't even really like lo-mein, but my boyfriend gets it and I ended up stealing some of his). I think this restaurant will become my go-to Chinese take-out. I only hope their Japanese cuisine is just as good!

Nice friendly staff, but the food is so-so at best. Kung Pao Chicken was bland and the chicken was low quality. The Beef and Broccoli was a little better but not good enough for us to go again.

Not very comfortable booths (I'm getting old-er), food is good, if not memorable. Solid choice, nice servers.

I love this restaurant! Great Chinese and Japanese food. Excellent sushi! The service is good. We go in about once every few months and the waitress remembers our order exactly! It is small, and intimate. Very cute decor. Love the pan fried Peking ravioli and the Tempura Maki sushi!! All of the chicken dishes are great!!!

I love this place! We eat there for take-out frequently. The food is great and the staff never messes up an order. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

What can I say the food is excellent. It is the best and Natick and most likely the best in the area. Hey if my son likes it you know it is good. Never had a bad meal.

Best Chinese food in the area. The sushi can go toe to toe with most sushi places and the wait staff is very nice. A must if you're in the mood for Chinese and you're in the Natick area.

Best sushi around! The sashimi dish is our favorite. Eat it usually at least once a week. Sake (salmon) is to die for. I have never had a bad meal there. Staff is great, both delivery and take out. We have eaten in a few times, and find the staff great. A+ in our book.

Shanghai Tokyo has the best Chinese food in the metro west area. The delivery is dependable (ie if they say it will be there in 40 minutes, it will be there in less than 40 minutes ALWAYS - In fact, sometimes we plan on the full time and it gets here in half the time!) The pan fried ravioli, broccoli and bean curd with garlic sauce and chicken teriyaki are all favorites. The Japanese menu is also good. The Ton Katsu and the teriyaki are both great. The sushi is fresh, although I limit it to the most popular choices so I know it's fresh so I can't judge everything. The tempura is just ok... As takeout, tempura can get a bit soggy / greasy and I found that to be the case. But that doesn't reflect on the restaurant! I am sure it would be delicious if eaten in the restaurant...

I lived on this food in college and my only regret is that no amount of begging will get them to deliver to my apartment in Fenway. This Chinese/Japanese restaurant is small and ideal if you're looking for an intimate setting. I wouldn't recommend going with a big group, but it's great for a date or a small group of people. Because it's so small though it is sometimes difficult to tune out the conversations of those around you which can be especially annoying when the Natick high school kids are loudly babbling about their latest production of Our Town in the next booth. The Chinese food is great (I personally recommend the crab rangoons) and very well priced. There is a full sushi menu but I haven't had anything from it so I can't comment on anything other than the speed with which it arrives at the table -- fantastic! The waitstaff is extremely friendly and accommodating. What's particularly impressive is that no matter how packed the restaurant is, I've never waited long for food to be brought out (I've waited longer for McDonald's).

Sushi , Sushi, Sushi- this is the place to go in Natick. Usually get the Sushi Regular with great variety. Love their salad dressing too. Service is friendly and attentive. Chinese is very good too especially the appetizer type food and cashew chicken. Warm welcoming atmosphere.

My go-to while I was at Wellesley, my really go-to when I lived in Boston, and now that I live in Brooklyn, every trip up must be accompanied by a visit to this place. There's nothing more that I can say other than each time we go, we invariably order a sushi boat, that's how much sushi we get, and the Chinese food is some of the best I've ever had. And good luck trying to find a better crab rangoon ANYWHERE. And I mean anywhere - I've never had a better one.

When I'm craving greasy, Americanized Chinese food, this place hits the spot. It's NOT where I go when I'm craving out-of-this-world Chinese food (I go to Sichuan Gourmet in Framingham for that). My favorite dish is the Orange Crispy Sesame Chicken. I've never ordered anything from the Japanese menu, so I can't comment on that. The service has been very good in my experience (both for dine-in and delivery).

Still the heavyweight champion in the area. Great food and menu. Staff is professional but robotic.

Our #1 place for sushi and Chinese food. Love the spicy salmon and spicy tuna rolls - some sushi bars don't give you an actual piece of fish in the spicy rolls! I love their pan-fried dumplings, my boyfriend loves the beef teriyaki. Always love their chicken fingers - but I'm less picky on those regardless. We can get take out/delivery several times a week and it's always great! Highly recommended!!

I've become a fan again. Seriously in love with their fried rice, and the general gau's chicken again, as well as some of their sushi, in particular the spicy scallop rolls.

Great food. We keep trying more fancy places but come back here. Scallion Pancake best anywhere, same for sushi, soups great, dinners good too.

Tucked into the small strip mall as Natick Pizza, it's a shame they don't do as much business as the pizza place. I have only had their sushi and it's pretty dang good. It may not be as hip or swank as Oga's but I was hard pressed to discern any difference in quality. Plus, while Oga's sushi is on the small size, Shanghai Tokyo's portions are generous and a real value. There was a wide selection to choose from and for those looking for something other than sushi, the Shanghai section of the menu is vast and varied. It's not the prettiest restaurant around, but the decor hides its strip-mall appellation fairly well. Perhaps seating maybe 30 (skinny) people on a good night, the restaurant is on the cozy side. The service was quick and pleasant. All in all, Shanghai Tokyo is a hidden gem serving up tasty sushi.

I used to live within very easy walking distance, and I really wanted to like this place. Unfortunately, the food was consistently lousy. Order Lo mein and get linguini with some scallions instead. The meats tended to be overcooked to the point of crunchiness, and the sauces were overpowering.

We used to live in CA where good, affordable sushi was prevalent. Shanghai Tokyo is the first place we've been in the Boston area that fits this bill. Very good sushi, good service, kid friendly, and an entire Chinese menu to choose from as well. A great find!

We get sushi take out here quite a bit. And I'm pretty picky about sushi. This measures up very well with some of the better sushi places in boston. and they deliver. I'm tempted to give it a 5, but somehow I can't for a casual sushi place. But it is great for what it is.

Another great sushi spot, with a sampling of Chinese. Always fresh fish, good spicy tuna rolls, tasty sesame chicken served by nice people. We've eaten there with our daughter and have always been happy with the quality and quantity of their food.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
