If I could give it more stars, I would! This place is amazing, and I know people who come from the city to eat here. It's also pretty hidden, tucked into a shabby strip mall on Rt. 140. But once inside, you forget the plain exterior. The place is Japanese, through and through. Elegant in its simplicity, with standard tables, Japanese style lowered table (don't worry, there's room under the table for your feet to hang, so you don't have to sit on your knees), and a sushi bar, with friendly, knowledgable and authentic sushi chefs. The food is out of this world. I have tried Japanese food all over the country and in Japan as well (I am half Japanese), and this place rivals any restaurant in Tokyo!! The fish quality is melt-in-your-mouth top notch! The rice is seasoned well. The hot entrees are cooked to perfection. The service is friendly and formal, but a bit slow. If you are used to typical American "I want it yesterday" dining, then this would annoy you. We've easily waited 40 minutes for our food, and 20 minutes for soup/drinks. But we never really minded, because we were there to relax and enjoy our meal. We have since moved from MA, but you can be sure that every time we visit, we'll include at least one trip to Wanokura. Say hi to Harumi for us!

Very good. Love this place. Don't go there enough! (a little too far for me.)

Have been eating there for close to four years - always good and most of the time very good. Not the biggest pieces of fish but excellent quality. Good service, try the kim-chi shock rolls and the Mexican rolls - love 'em! Not the best place for small children - the staff doesn't seem to mind but you'll feel the other diners staring at you.

What a suprise! I thought it was excellent. Portions good, cost a little high, but not outrageous.

Great, Fresh Sushi at a reasonable price... Cannot ask for much more than that. The restaurant is very clean and tidy and the atmosphere is great. Service is also speedy and very kind. If prices were a tad cheaper I'd eat there everyday :)

Wanokura is one of our favorite restaurants in the area. We've mostly had the rolls and are big fans of the veggie roll. It only gets four stars because five years in California have made me a bit of a sushi snob. The service has always been great and, despite a very elegant décor, is quite kid friendly.

Wanokura is a cute place is a strip mall on a major road (rt 140). once inside it is nicer than you would think. The food is quite good. I thought the service was a "bit" slow, however I did not find that to be a problem because I was not in a rush I was there to enjoy and "chay up" a client. It was a nice relaxing envionment, unprententious for that purpose. The sushi was quality - I would go back.

Excellent sushi, what a find in the outskirts of civilization ;-). I'm up in Hopkinton often and for a great sushi meal that is close; this is the place. Love it, service is great, prices are very reasonable, staff is way friendly.

Based on the Yelp reviews here I decided to seek out this place and was pleasantly surprised by the yummy sushi at Wanokura. The restaurant is on Rte. 140 (West Street) on the far left of Westview Mall (a small strip mall). The interior is cleaned and well kept. The service was friendly, however, my waitress was not Japanese and she didn't know what some of the items were on the menu and had to go ask someone else. The place was busy. The green tea was excellent...just right in temperature and taste. I was impressed. I think there may be some MSG in the veggies such as Burdock root in the Sushi. I ordered a tempura shrimp sushi and they made it to order first making the shrimp tempura...it couldn't have been any fresher. The only thing that bothered me was there was no soap in the women's bathroom...which begs the question as to whether the female employees hands were clean?!! Oh and they give you a sheet with a small pencil to order sushi and I noticed the pencil was from IKEA.! Those little pencils at IKEA that you use to mark your selections before heading to the warehouse to pick them up....Hmm!

this place is pretty good, surprise to find in Milford. Some dishes are a bit pricey but not too much and service isn't awesome but the food is fantastic.

Okay. Wanokura! Loveeeeeeee this place! My husband and I were never sushi fans, the thought of raw anything disgusted us. After speaking to a co-worker she recommended us this place. She did warn us that the service was slow on the weekends. We still decided to give it a try! We went on a Saturday evening and asked to be seated by the sushi chefs since we wanted to see the quality of the food. The sushi chefs spoke perfect English and were sooo friendly! They even joked with us. We had an idea of what we wanted but by reading the menu we couldn't find it. We asked the sushi chef if he had any maki with Shrimp and Avocado together and that is when he recommended our next obsession the "Scorpion Maki". After our first bite we were in love! Alsooo, the have amazing Teriyaki! It's finger lickin' good! and for dessert try their Coconut Fried Ice Cream and thank me later! Wanokura is located in a little strip mall and if you judge the appearance on the outside you will never guess what a gem this is. The inside is VERY clean and modern. We love this place!

It's a real shame. The food here is great but the service is horrible. I've eaten in several time and ordered out several times. Either way the service is so slow. Not to mention their web page says they open at 4:30pm but when I called to place my order they told me that they open at 5pm and didn't seem concerned that their on line info is wrong. I have to say that I won't be back!

Went to Wanokura for the first time last night and what a great experience! The sushi was fresh and expertly presented and the hot food was equally tasty! The wine list is pretty good and inexpensive as well. Waitstaff was very friendly and attentive. Even the sushi chefs wished us a good evening as we left and we weren't seated at the sushi bar. How great is that?! Don't be fooled by the mini-mall location. This is a wonderful place to grab some quality sushi and Japanese cuisine without making the trip to Boston or Providence.

  • David T.

This place is absolutely terrific. As stated in other posts, the sushi is top quality. Also, unlike many Japanese restaurants in the greater Boston area, the staff and chefs here are primarily Japanese (with the exception of a few waitresses)...I think it is usually better to get cuisine that is made by people who grew up eating it. The service can be a bit slow at times (although ALWAYS friendly) but it is well worth the wait for superior grade food. Prices might seem to be on the higher end of the spectrum but actually are pretty standard for this grade of cuisine (anyone familiar with sushi I'm sure will realize this). They have some really creative maki rolls as well, that never disappoint. I really have nothing negative to say about this place (and I have eaten sushi throughout the Boston area as well as in Japan and various other Asian countries). Anyone who loves Japanese food and lives within a reasonable distance should definately try out Wanakura.

I have been going to Wanokura almost once a week for a long time. The sushi is always fresh and delicious. The best I have ever had. Unfortunately it makes other places seem mediocre. I even have friends that don't like sushi that will ask to go there because the cooked meals are equally wonderful. Everyone from the sushi chefs to the waitstaff is very friendly, courteous and helpful. I would disagree on price with some other reviews. I believe the prices to excellent. I've paid much more for sushi that was not as good.

  • Burl H.

Great decor and atmosphere even with every seat occupied, but the wait staff and sushi bar can't keep up with busy weekend nights. The food is especially pleasant considering the geographical location. The cold sake carafes are pretty, the eel and Teriyaki dishes are well-prepared, the seaweed salad is incredible and the Volcano special is the kind of decadent excess required to keep the locals interested. As other reviewers have said, if it were cheaper I'd eat here more often. Probably the best restaurant in the area to enjoy fish.

  • Tavian R.

The environment is really nice, unique. You have the option of sitting on the floor (on comfortable mats with back support) or in traditional tables. The sushi is amazing- the reason why we went but we were also impressed with the gyoza and the beef negami. I'm not a fan of sushi but this place had good, fresh fish and delicious ingredients that will have me coming back time and time again.

Try the Volcano Roll. It's everything you hoped for plus more.

Location: Location is a bit odd. It is in a small strip mall on the far left but there is no clear sign that this is the restaurant. I had to get closer to it to realize this was the place. The parking was fine but I went on a Tuesday so it wasn't that busy. If the place is full I could see parking being an issue. Inside the restaurant was wonderful. There is the usual table and chairs for people to sit but they also have a flair of the traditional Japanese with an area where patrons take off their shoes and sit at low tables and mats. Service: The service was excellent. We had multiple people come and wait on us and follow up with us to see if there was anything we needed. They were able to give their opinions on the items on the menu and recommend great choices. Food: We ordered the fried octopus for an appetizer, crack roll, mexican roll, Amy roll and salmon maki for the main and fried green tea ice cream, fried ginger ice cream for dessert. I base my judgement of Sushi restaurants by the taste of the salmon maki anywhere I go. The salmon was excellent. The color was great and the fat lines were clear and defined. The flavor of the salmon was fresh and had a good balance to it. My favorite was the Mexican roll. It had red pepper and tempura flakes with tuna. I would go back just for that one. I really enjoyed the dessert and the flavor of the fried batter was excellent with the ice cream. Overall: It's definitely a place I would go again. The sushi and service was excellent so can't ask for more.

I was really excited to visit this restaurant but my excitement faded quickly after seeing the menu and tasting a very mediocre Wanokura Shrimp Roll. It was in dire need of some sort of dipping sauce. In fact, nothing in the menu really stuck out to me so I ended up going to my usual sushi spot. Maybe I'm just spoiled but "Meh. I've experienced better" perfectly sums up how I felt about this experience. The service was pretty good though. Our waiter wasn't rude when we asked for a check after an appetizer. I'd say, give it a chance. I just didn't dig it.

One night my BF and I were craving sushi for there was an hour and a half wait at ichigo ichie so we checked this place out. Took a little bit of driving but it was totally worth it. Delicious quality sushi and sashimi with no wait and great atmosphere

  • Eric S.

Great sushi, great service. Don't let the outside fool you. Looks kind of run down from the outside. The strip mall is kind of unkept, and the sign is old and worn. But it is very clean inside. Good quality fish and very tasty dishes. I had a Mexican roll, Volcano roll and topped it off with some fried ginger ice cream. All of it delicious. Next business trip that brings me to Milford, you'll find me here.

We LOVE this place. My husband and I would visit weekly for lunch at the counter. We're moving tomorrow and will have one last family dinner there tonight. Owner, wait staff, chefs, and food are AWESOME! We'll forever miss Wanokura!!

Such a pleasant surprise to find this in Milford, where the food generally leaves much to be desired. The sushi was fresh, simple and delicious.

Wanokura is amazing. From simple sushi staples (say that 5 times fast) like California rolls, to their signature Wanokura roll, everything the chef creates is mouth-watering good. We visited here on a Wednesday night, and even though the restaurant wasn't packed, the parking lot was, so fair warning. As other reviewers said, you might pass by the storefront because of the location, but it is totally worth driving in and waiting for a parking spot. The house sake is $5 and goes well with pretty much anything you could order. Waitstaff members were friendly and prompt.

  • Dave J.

Horrendous service. We were one of five tables being served. It took 20 minutes for them to acknowledge us and take our order. Over 40 minutes went by and I finally decided to ask about our food, which was only 2 orders of sushi. The waitress responded, "it's almost your turn." We waited another 5 minutes and decided to walk out. The waitress came over as we were putting our coats on and asked if we wanted to stay. I told her that it was ridiculous to wait for over an hour for two orders of sushi. She said, "there were people ahead of you, so..." Not once did she apologize. During our wait the two sushi chefs were having a casual conversation with a patron. He seamed to be more concerned with chatting with their friend. Warning: If you go there sit quietly and wait your turn, like a child, or you will be reprimanded by the waitress. I wish I could give a negative in the rating.

Dinner always great with Ko-San. He gets great maguro, hamachi and salmon. But my favorite is always the Albacore Tostada!

My husband and I love sushi. We normally get sushi in Franklin. However after hearing amazing reviews from friends and others online, we decided to get takeout sushi from Wanokura. We live right in Milford so it was so much easier to get to and only a 5 minute drive. From the person who answered the phone, with such a pleasant hello, and kindness, to the time given for wait to the quality of food, it was awesome! We order 4 hand rolled Maki Rolls. Philly Roll, California Roll, Crazy Maki and a Sweet Potato Roll. I was told 30 minutes, I arrived right at the 30 minute mark, only to be greeted by the hostess, and our food was brought up to the counter as I arrived, perfect timing! I asked for Low Sodium soy, which was clearly marked on our order, not all places pay attention to that request. We got home and opened the bag, it was neatly packed, and all components accounted for. Every bite of delicious, fresh, tasty sushi was savored between us. I can say we will be back, and we will be frequent customers at Wanokura, as the sushi was better, fresh and local. Great Sushi!

Little sushi bar in a very unsuspecting strip mall. Very well presented sushi, very friendly staff. The Mexican roll is just the right mix of east meets west. Well be stopping in every time I am in the area for work.

Best sushi BarNone. Fresh, nice portions and great staff. If you are a tuna fan (who isn't), they always have a great selection of toro. Just ask....

Great sushi. Big city quality. All the food is prepared with care and the ingredients are too notch. Those that eat sushi know that you should not measure a sushi restaurant by the amount of zany sauces they cover ur fish with, but they have some interesting modern takes in sushi for those that are into that. The "Mexican Maki" is amazing.

LOVE Wanokura. We have been eating here for the entire eight years it has been open and it has always been delicious. On rare occasions we will have a mistake in our to go order but that could happen anywhere. The sushi, sashimi and maki are always so fresh and so delicious - you may wait a bit for your sushi but that's just because it is all made to order beautifully. I love their ebi fry maki, their vegetarian maki, spicy tuna is delicious. And you can't go wrong with any of their raw fish as either sushi or sashimi (I'll pass on the uni though - I just don't like sea urchin). And if toro (fatty tuna) is available make sure to get it! Kitchen items are just as delicious - my husband LOVES the gyoza and the beef negima, for appetizers. I always get the edamame and miso soup. The rare beef tataki is really good too. Make sure to order a side salad if you aren't ordering an entree, you don't want to miss out on the delicious ginger dressing. The vegetable tempura is wonderful - very crunchy and never greasy. I love the chicken katsu (basically panko fried chicken breast) and the sauce that comes with it is yummy. The owner, Ko, is friendly, talented, helpful and knowledgable - an all around hard working great guy.

This spot is okay. My wife And I tried several sushi dishes. They were good. After reading many of the reviews I was expecting a little bit more. There are better places out there but this place is good.

By far my favorite place for sushi. The food is delicious, and while some of the rolls may be on the expensive side, you get a ton of rolls and they are fantastic. Two girlfriends of mine and I have been going consistently for a few months now, and we absolutely love it. They are a little on the slower side for time wise, but it works well if you're there with someone to chat. The fried calamari is delicious as well. Definitely would recommend this to anyone, and would go back any time!

Went here on a Thursday after noon around 1. They close at 2:30 for dinner at 5. The service isn't amazing. We waited at least 25 mins before the only girl working came over and helped us. She was very sweet however and seemed sorry. This is traditional Japanese restaurant. .no forks and their is very little hot food, you go there for the sushi..so I'm glad that's what we wanted. I ordered a lunch box combo number 2. Spicy tuna, spicy salmon and a California roll. I swear that box is enough for 2 people not 1. My cousin had 2 Rolls of the sweet potato. All very very good! I'll go here again. I really liked the way they added the spicy mustard to the tuna and salmon so good..and the sweet potato rolls were huge. I'll return I think for dinner one night!

Definitely a very cute decorated place for where it is located the service is . My review is only based on the one dish I had and I always search for, especially in the suburbs. Their tempura udon noodle soup was good. Nothing bad but not spectacular. Since I haven't had it in a while it definitely hit the spot. I just wish it had some veggies in it, i.e. cabbage or bok choy. Instead it was only broth, scallions, and the udon noddles. It was nice to get some shrimp tempura to go along with it but the rest of the tempura selection was this weird clump of shredded carrots dumped into the tempura mix and fried. I would like to try their sushi next time and to be able to update my review.

If you want top quality sushi, I recommend Wanokura. It's really like no other. Their main dishes are no slouches either. It's just top quality food all around at a reasonable price. The service staff has always been nice and the owner has been great as well. Good interior as well, not too loud or not too quiet.

I wrote a review a few years ago. STILL LOVE THIS PLACE. I take my son here alot, he loves it. Especially the Red Sox and Patriot roll. When I come with friends we sit at the tables, but when I bring him we sit at the bar so we can watch them prepare the Sushi. This is a cozy place with plenty of seating and GREAT sushi. There plum sake is nice. not much on the way of alcoholic drinks but that is the only draw back. I usally go for lunch from work, so that is never a problem for me. :) Awesome Japanese right in Milford!

  • Aayisha A.

This sushi place awesome. It's so close to my house that if I want I can go there everyday anytime I want. Their "Tiger Eye" maki is my favorite. I also like their service. And the restaurant is very cozy and comfortable. I am going there today for another bite, lol. If you live in Milford and love sushi, please check out this restaurant.

Fresh, top quality sushi. Try the volcano. This is a favorite spot for my family and we have not ever had a bad experience. Wait staff is great and the atmosphere is spare but very comfortable. A true hidden gem!

  • Acacia D.

Their food is great! A great find for kind of being in the middle of nowhere. A nice selection of sushi and sashimi, but other things for those that aren't into it. The ambiance is nice and there are some unique seating areas! The waitstaff are not always attentive, but it's a great place to have a long meal and just chat with whoever you're dining with.

Hands down my favorite sushi joint in the Boston area. It doesn't hurt that I used to live right up the road, but that aside this place is a true gem no matter where you live. There's a reason some regulars come once a week from an hour away to eat here. You can't go wrong with anything, including the simple but effective non-sushi menu (the beef negima is amazing). The hamachi and unagi nigiri are always like butter, and I have yet to have a roll that was less than stellar. My favorites are: Rainbow, Mexican (complete with tempura flakes and a chili pepper), Boston, Red Sox, Caterpillar and Dragon roll. Simple. Understated. Friendly. Fresh. What more could you ask for in a sushi restaurant?

  • Lillian W.

I have been going here for a while (since it opened...early 2000's, I believe) and have nothing but good things to say about it. The staff is SUPER friendly and efficient, the food tasty (and looks as good as it tastes) and I always leave with a full belly but not an empty wallet! The staff remembers my friend and I and welcomeus warmly whenever we walk through the door. We've brought countless friends and relatives to wanokura and each person always raves over both the cuisine and the service. I would give wanokura 10 stars if I could!

Best sushi around!! Also love their tempura, very light and not greasy. All the food is extremely fresh. So glad I found an awesome sushi place!

  • Riesenschnauzer K.

I was here in January 2012 and had a bad experience. The POOR rating has to do with SERVICE. The food was still good, sushi fresh, etc.,. However, the place had maybe 5 tables to wait on and a handful of folks a the sushi bar and my order of 2 rolls took - 50 minutes - no joke or exaggeration. I received a couple of apologies from the waiter but that was it. As a gesture they should have offered to comp at least one of the rolls or something on my bill - but they didn't. I might try them once more, but if they can't turn around a simple order efficiently, I won't be back.

I am going to be the BIGGER person here and update my last review, because I was acused of being a "female dog" by another Yelp Member (JERK!) anyway....We have been back to Wanokura...the food and the service was great! I went right before Christmas and it was closed? Not sure if it was a vacation scenario...either way. The food here is good....just keeps close watch on your order and you will be fine.

I want to say this is the only time in my life that I decided not to tip. We came in with a party of 7, 4 kids and 3 adults, and there were quite a few empty tables at the time, but they still said it would be about a 15 minute wait. Why? They didn't offer to seat us at 2 tables (we would have been fine with that), and although they had a table big enough for all of it, it only had 6 chairs, and they didn't have an extra chair. So we agreed to wait 15 minutes. 40 minutes later, all the other tables were full, and they seemed uninclined to accommodate us. Finally, we asked if they would seat 6 of us at the table with 6 chairs, and one would sit at the bar until they could get another chair. Begrudgingly, they agreed to that. It took another 20 minutes to take our order, and then they kept getting things wrong, or forgetting parts of our order, or not having what we asked for. I had to ask for a bowl for my soy sauce 3 times before they got one. But the most shocking thing - the waiter brought us all water, and when a kid took a sip, she nearly gagged. This is liquor, she screamed. And sure enough, when the adults tasted it, it seemed like dilute sake. How that got into a water glass I'll never know, but this girl was 9 years old! 2 hours after we arrived, one of us was still waiting for an order - the kids were exhausted (they'd gotten up very early for a tournament nearby) and we just wanted to go home. They seemed unwilling to just cancel that order and let us go. At any other restaurant, with a series of mistakes like this, the owner would have come out and torn up the bill. Not this one - they seemed put out that we were even there. The sashimi I ordered was pretty nice, although a couple of pieces were still frozen. But it's the service and the series of blunders (some bordering on criminal) that led us to leave without tipping and to swear we'd never return.

I had high hopes for this place but once I got there the service was very very poor and the food was lackluster we asked to be seated at those tables set recessed into the floor and it seems like we were doing something wrong because we weren't serviced for about 15 minutes I had to raise my hand to get some service then after that the waitress forgot our order for drinks and I had to ask 3 * before she gave it to us then after that they brought out the sushi in just a common little plates that you can get at Walmart I thought it would be on a sushi tray but it wasn't I'm so disappointed with this place

Very good sushi in an unexpected location. It is a small place, but excellent quality and great service. Not the BEST sushi I have ever had, but the fact that it so close makes it great. I would not recommend it for take out. We did try it a couple of months ago as take out, and were disappointed. It is so fresh that having it right on premises is a must. Go... you wont regret it:) If you like tuna and spice- get the Mexican Roll... it is fantastic!

I only discovered this place recently even though I've lived close to it for a long time. It's in a really awkward spot near a Dairy Queen and in a plaza with some small businesses. My boyfriend and I found this place on yelp and the praising reviews had us wanting to check it out. The decor is simple and classy. To the left there are seats where you sit on pillows on the floor and your legs dangle below in a cut out in the floor. We didn't get a chance to sit there on our first visit... even though the place was practically empty. Our second visit we asked specifically to sit there and it wasn't a problem so speak up if you want the prime seating. Their menu is pretty standard for a sushi place. One of my friends is a vegetarian and they wouldn't budge on making a custom roll for her. I thought this was kind of lame since it wouldn't take that much effort to adjust the roll for her diet needs. The spicy tuna roll is sort of a staple in sushi restaurants but theirs is the worst I've had. Skip this and order something different. A small pet peeve of mine is "THE RED SOX ROLL!" and other tacky poor excuses for sushi roll names... this place really loves to do this with their specials which is a little bothersome to me. Otherwise this place is a good sushi place... for Milford, MA.

Love this place! Food is always good whether its to go or eat in! My favorite is getting the chicken teriyaki to go, and then eating it at the Mendon Drive-in! Definitely recommend!

Truly the best! The quality of the food is equal to a 5 star restaurant in Japan. We just got back from eating amazingly fresh toro. The owner, Ko san, is your friendly neighborhood sushi chef. He is native Japanese so as Japanese ourselves, we feel so comfortable. There is no compromise - it's exactly what we were dreaming of - every time. Wanokura is far and away better than any sushi place in Boston. Make the drive out to Milford - it's worth it.

Great Sushi. Good service. Good atmosphere. Can't really complain about this place. If you go in looking for Sushi and know what to expect for the prices, it's great. They deliver exactly what they advertise. Can't ask for much more.

Unique, interesting options on the menu. Great sushi.....Some seating up top where you must remove your shoes. Sat Indian style on pillows, pretty cool. Calamari was my favorite. The calamari includes large tentacles lightly fried. Yum

We sat at the tables on the "high rise" which gave the room a relaxed and comfortable ambiance set apart from the standard tables I'm use to dining in. To start I ordered plum wine. Different since I prefer dark reds, but was tasty sweet. Recommend pairing the wine with dessert. The avocado salad was great, and presentation (in a martini glass) was clever. The teriyaki chicken was tender & flavorful. Tempura veggies were a nice addition to the chicken. The scorpion maki was my fav.

I should qualify this review by saying I've never eaten here and paid for it. So I order what I want and love it. I think even if I had to pay for it myself, though, I'd go here. Wanokura has the novel little "sit down into the floor" kinds of tables, which is cool. Their sushi menu has a decent amount of choices, and when your order actually comes, it is fantastic. There are few places I've had better sushi. Order a cold carafe of wakatake (or 3) and you've got a great dinner experience. It's definitely more than I'd expect out of a sleepy little plaza in the little town of Milford. Worth a shot if you're in town. It was tradition that I'd eat there the first night of any visit I made to Milford, back when I had any reason to visit there, and that tradition existed for a reason.

Generally out in the burbs of Boston there are only a handful of places that do Sushi well. Wanokura is one of them. I've been here both for lunch and dinner. My immediate comment that applies to both is that their selection is pretty limited. Sushi, Sashimi, Teriyaki, Tempura, Udon and Katsu. Their dinner menu is their most comprehensive. You're running between $15 and $25 for a main, which is not bad. The portions for dinner are decent. Their wine list is VERY reasonably priced. Their lunch menu is between $10 and $15. If you have the appetite, do the Wanokura Bento. It starts with the usual Miso and Salad. Then a portion of Sushi and Sashimi. The followed by the Bento which has Chicken Teriyaki, Tempura (Shrimp & Vegetable), Rice, Noodles and a few other items. You need a fairly hefty appetite to put that away. More than anything, the quality of their food is good and I will keep going back for more!

As an avid fan of sushi and a customer of Wanokura since its opening, I definitely enjoy the setting of the restaurant. The sushi is normally very good, with occasionally fish lacking the freshness that I have grown to love. It's definitely a restaurant to give multiple chances to The service is often slow. Many of the new servers are very friendly and, when making a mistake, are quick to remedy the problem. However, I've had my share of bad, experienced servers. The decor, as many have said before, is awesome If there for lunch, be sure to order a Bento Box

Wanokura was phenomenal! I am used to Seattle sushi and wasn't expecting much in a remote place like Milford but the chefs are straight from the motherland and this is some good stuff. Check out the Sushi dinner and try everything for $20!

Sorry to ruin the Wanokura Lovefest on here, but I went for dinner with my girlfriend last Friday night and had an awful time. The appetizer round went fine: we had miso soup and some beef tataki, which came with a very nice ponzu sauce. It was everything that happened after the apps that killed the whole experience. We ordered four rolls, and a few pieces of nigiri. We were told that the sushi would take "a little long," which was fine -- or so we thought. I suppose we should've clarified on approximately how long that would be, because it wound up taking an hour. An hour! For sushi! Is this somehow acceptable out in Milford?! There's just no way that a sushi roll should take that long to make. While we were waiting that HOUR for our food, we were tended to one time: after about 35 minutes, one of the women working there came over and asked if we were ready for our check. For many reasons, that REALLY rubbed us the wrong way, and pretty much destroyed any hope of us salvaging the experience. Not only were they not paying attention to us, they were CALLING attention to their awful service. Listen. If it's going to take an hour to get us all of the food that we ordered, that isn't the end of the world. But for the love of god, pay some attention to us during that hour. Could you bring us out a complementary drink? Maybe a little bit of edemame to thank us for waiting all that time? No? Well then how about stagger the food service? We ordered nigiri, which didn't show up until 45 seconds before our rolls did (that was another grating experience: after all that time, the first thing they show us is a dinky little dish of nigiri). Nigiri is a really fast, simple dish to prepare. It's raw fish on top of rice. BRING IT TO US WHILE WE WAIT. By the time we'd gotten our food, the two tables that had been seated with us had already eaten, paid, and left; the restaurant only had a few tables of people left eating. The food itself was fine, and I won't complain about its quality. Was it worth waiting an hour for? Absolutely not, nor was it worth the price: it was the sort of sushi we could've gotten in 15 minutes at any sushi place in Boston, weekend night or not. A side-note on the nigiri: when we got it, we found that the fish was bound to the rice with wasabi paste. If a restaurant wants to do that, fine, but I'm of the opinion that they should really clarify that the nigiri comes with wasabi, because that's not a typical thing for sushi restaurants to do. If you're not in the mood for wasabi, it's a very unpleasant discovery. This is the first one-star review I've ever given to a restaurant, and I don't expect to be handing out many more. When I go to a restaurant, service is secondary to food for me. Wanokura really dropped the ball on this one, though, with service so gratingly bad that it bordered on insulting. Making the customer happy isn't all that hard. The people at Wanokura need a little bit of Hospitality 101.

Absolutely love the sushi here. They have a good selection to choose from and is one of my favorite places to go to for Japanese. Don't expect it to be a fast meal, for the service is on the slower side, but I've yet to have an issue with it. Wish some of the sitting was more intimate and not be like, two feet away from another table, but still love it.

So fellow yelpers...just wanted to confirm all those who have rated this place as the pinnacle of awesomeness in literally the middle of nowhere. for at least a year since ive been in this godforsaken area i have looked for a sushi place within 10-20 mins from me and last weekend i have found something that is to say the least a gem in an otherwise bumville area. is it the best sushi i've had? nope not at all .... so why the 5 stars? simply for the price and location, there is NOTHING that can surpass this place. food was very reasonably priced as well as good. went with a group of 6 people and the bill came out to id say 150. and we ordered a lot....a typical bill at a sushi place in boston would have been at least twice that. some recommendations: patriot, red sox, spicy salmon, spicy tuna (5 bucks!!), the uni also 5 bucks RIDICULOUS, volcano, and the rainbow which was amazing. the wait staff and owner are pretty awesome, came out to check on us ever so often and tried to see how we were doing, which is not typical for a Japanese sushi place so it was very hospitable. would def come here again and recommend it to anyone in the area.

Sushi nerds love to show off their favorite places to other sushi nerds. It's like bragging about something you actually had no part in making, but nonetheless we all do it. I'm from Worcester, so my guy is Haiku's Kenzo Phan, and I took my Milford-dwelling friend Tess there a while back. As is the custom with sushi-snobs, he had to show me his personal sushi lair in return. His chef of choice is the inimitable Ko of Wanokura fame. The man is a phenom. He and his team put together some of the finest and most innovative sushi in the state, from the "safe for all palates" Red Sox Roll (a riff on spicy tuna) to the "advanced" stuff like monkfish liver straight up. The array is vast and limited only by Ko's substantial imagination. But not only that! The non-sushi offerings, far from being an afterthought, are all first rate nuggets of deliciousness, so feel free to bring your non-sushi-eating companions. Although I don't know what you're doing hanging around with people who don't eat sushi. That's just wrong. PROTIP - Become a regular here. Tip well. Suddenly you will find that a magical array of off-menu delights open up to you. Tess told me, and he's a pretty on-point guy. See what you can do. Totally worth it.

Love the atmosphere. Very clean, sleek, modern Asian decor. Owner/chef is almost always there working at the sushi bar. Is very personable and makes sitting at the sushi bar very pleasent experience and one that makes you want to return frequently. It's so nice to have an upscale restuarant in Milford.

Very good sushi experience in a surprising location. I have been twice and both times I was impressed with the brevity of service, the freshness of the sushi, and the quality of tea served. I stick to the basics here as I have found their elaborate rolls to be a touch overdone. The yellowtail and spicy tuna are just right, however. The decor is very classy yet remains nicely casual. The dining room could use a wall or two as it feels a bit like a cafeteria at heart. Four stars.

Oh my gawd, Haromi is awesome. It's funny that both reviews here are from New Englanders living in CA now. Talk about good food and a good environment. Everyone here is warm and inviting and love company. Its like going to a friends house to visit. The resturant is in a little strip mall that, more often than not, is closed by the time you get there for dinner, so parking is easy. They have plenty of room and its great for larger groups but it works just as well as a place to take someone to hide for a little while. I don't think it's all that slow for the food; I guess it really depends on how many people are working versus how many people are eating, but I will say this, it's worth the wait and you get what you pay for. Each and every time I fly home to see mum and dad, we hit Wanokura for supper. These guys are great.

So everything that was said here is correct. The service is slow, and the food always comes out piece meal. That said if you have 90 minutes or more for dinner and like a slow moving/take your time atmosphere, I don't think that you will find better sushi in the area. The food was fantastic! The sushi was extremely fresh and the spice levels were perfect. I will definitely be going back!

I stopped by one evening and grabbed a menu but didn't have time to order take-out. When I finally tried them them it was for their lunch. I ordered a bento box (please excuse the spelling) that had a spicy chichen, rice and a veggie and I have to say it was great! Fresh and tasty with a fair price. I am definately going to stop by for dinner based on the good quality lunch box. If you are in rhe area give them a try and tell me what you think.

The BEST sushi in the area. I have been to many sushi places all over the world. This small and intimate Japanese restaurant has some of the freshest sushi that I have ever had. The Hibachi meals are also very good. Try to calamari appetizer is it the best calamari I have ever had!!!

GREAT FOOD. Would have gotten a 5th star is the service is better. Staff is very slow. For example: every time I get tea, I have to ask for sugar...which usually takes 10 minutes to get....takes a while for the food, takes a while for the check...but the food makes up for it X 10.

DELICIOUS sushi. The first time I went there the service was really slow and they forgot our edamame. I forgave them because the sushi was so good. The second time I went I had the same waiter and he was much better. Try the tiger eye. Yum!
