At one time, I would have given this restaurant a 4 or 5 star rating. Not anymore, it has indeed gone downhill somewhat in the past few years. I stopped eating there after they delivered a sub to me that had a piece of plastic in it, and I asked for my money back, and they wouldn't deliver THAT to me. They offered to make me a new sub and deliver it to me, and I said that I had lost my appetite (I'd already eaten half of it before I found the plastic--and the subs are HUGE) and just wanted the money back (we are talking like six bucks, here). Another sub was of no use to me at that point--by the time I was hungry again, it would have been a big soggy mess. The six bucks, I could have used, and I had no car. They felt it was worth their time to bring me another sandwich, but not worth their time to bring me the money back. They said just let them know next time I came in person, and they'd give me the money back or a free sandwich. That was well over a year ago, and I just haven't felt like going back since. Plastic in the sub, and not getting the money back, just made me lose confidence in the place. When someone is a good customer who has been eating there for years and spent plenty of $$ in there, finds plastic in her food, maybe you should get off your butt and drive the 2 miles to avoid making the impression that you don't really give a damn about the plastic or the customer... I used to love the baked ziti. It was huge and delicious. Maybe it still is, but from the reviews lately, I see no reason to go out of my way to eat there. P.S. You know what's really interesting?? Sort the reviews by DATE and just start at the bottom and scroll up. It starts out mostly 5 stars, then gradually becomes mostly 4 stars...well, as I said, it's interesting, and pretty much tells the sorry tale of the decline in customer satisfaction.

I'm a fan of this place. A friend introduced me to it and I haven't had a bad meal there yet. The food is very good - nice pieces of garlic in the sauce. (I hate when you go to a restaurant that brags about sauce and it's basically Ragu) The portions are HUGE! My wife and I will get take out from here and order one dish and split it. Good cheap eats - as long as you're in the mood for the same thing. I've had breakfast there a couple times and it's quite good as well. About the only negative I have is the bright - and I mean BRIGHT - lights. Make the seating area more friendly. You'll get 5 stars from me!

I know this place has gotten really good reviews. And I can attest to the fact they they serve up hearty portion, but I was not so impressed by the food itself. OK, so all I had was a sub, but its one of the measuring sticks that I use for a place such as this. Rather than them making the sub using chicken breast, it seemed to have been chicken fingers. They were a bit tough. I had asked for the sub on garlic bread, but either they ran out of garlic paste or just don't make it the same way they do in New York. Either way I was not thrilled. The friend that I was with had a similar sub. She seemed to have enjoyed it, but still left over half of it. I didn't ask. I guess for a local place it is good. I am in no rush to go back though. It was worth it though for the company that I had with me -- an old friend that I don't get to see too often.

I've been a bunch of times and the food has ranged from excellent to blah. If you order the standard stuff like chicken parmesan or pepperoni pizza, then you'll be happy. Order a veal saltimbocca or anchovy pizza and you've screwed yourself. For example, I tried to order a pizza with anchovies on the side. Hey, I just like anchovies once in a while. The nice lady at the register informed me that anchovies would be $5 extra and when I said fine, the two guys in back looked into the stainless steel container holding the requested topping and both grimaced like they were looking at a congealed, bacteria-laden mush of rotten garbage. Gross! The veal saltimbocca tastes like veal in wallpaper paste. The marsala is slightly better. Sauces are not a strength at this place. I got an order of baked ziti once and it was heavenly, despite the delivery taking 1.5 hours.

Horrible service. Ordered from grubhub...took 2 hours...nothing but excuses from them when we called. Food is sub par at best. Order from somewhere else.

Huge portions of GREAT food at reasonable prices. Steak tips, chicken tips with pasta or rice, etc.....Very big menu with tons of choices. They also do custom meals. Just let them know what you want and voila! A HUGE plus is that they also do breakfast. eggs, pancakes, whatever.....I love this place and eat here at least once every couple of weeks.

PiZza is delicious. The cheese doesn't taste like cardboard. Crust is perfectly chewy! Beats a lot of other Boston pizza joints.

Avellino's is so close to me, I feel like if I could jump off my deck and land without killing myself, I'd be there. So I go in about once a month. 3 stars mostly for the chicken salad melt. A sandwich, french fries and a pickle for $8, and it's yummy. I've only strayed a few times, but I always go back to the chicken salad melt. They have a HUGE menu, so I'm sure there's other good things.

This was one of my favorite places to eat at while in high school, not to mention college always making time to stop in and get a chicken saltambuca dinner or a veal pram dinner. Lately my friends, the same who introduced me to Avellino's as a kid, told me that it had gone down hill due to a change in management or staff. Hate to say it but it's true. I stopped in this past weekend for a veal parm dinner and to my disbelief found this to be true. The ziti was over cooked and filled with tomato paste and whole crushed tomatoes. Who ever was back in the kitchen was to lazy to actually make the sauce. They used to serve you decent sized salads. However 3 leafs of lettuce, a thimble of dressing and a cherry tomato doesn't make the cut. The veal was pretty dry and had the same crappy sauce. If your craving Italian in Medford I'd have to say pass nowadays to Avellino's. There a plenty of better Italian joints in the old neighborhood that can satisfy your craving. One star for the old days.

One word: RAVIOLIS Really good tomato sauce too. The rest of the food is great too. Pizza, subs, chicken parm, etc, They have a huge menu and the portions are generous. Only drawback is that parking's not that great but that's my only minor complaint.

We had a company's meeting and we were looking for the Italian sub specialties and salad. Someone in a group suggested trying Avellino's (because of their earlier experience) and we did order the varieties of subs (hot and cold) and salads. My favorite was chicken Kabob wrap. My colleagues liked the steak tip sub which definitely looked yummy. Foods are delicious and service is quick. Overall A+

Ok so I would have given Avellino's three stars because the food is pretty good, not great or spectacular, but average and solid when you are craving Italian. However, are you really going to charge me $15 for a plate of chicken, ziti and broccoli or ravioli with marinara sauce? Granted, the portions are big but they don't seem that much bigger then other Italian style places. And some might say "but you get garlic bread and salad with it" which would normally be great, except for the fact that I consider a "salad" to be more than three pieces of lettuce and a cucumber slice and I prefer my bread not to be stale. That being said - my pasta was really tasty. But if it came down to it, if I'm going to pay $15 for pasta I would rather get the lobster ravioli at the place near my work (which is on Beacon Hill where everything is overpriced, not in Medford).

I have tried Avellino's a few times. Everything seemed to be average. I liked the Calzone's probably the best. You also get huge portions which is a plus. I would try it again!

Came here with a Groupon for a Dinner for 2 special. This included a huge plate of oh-so-delicious bruschetta, a giant bowl of yummy caesar salad, one enormous entree to share, our choice of pasta on the side, dessert and 2 coffees. (Phew.. say that 10x fast!) This bruchetta is omg good. I normally don't even like bread but this cheesy, garlicy, crispy but not too much to cut the roof of your mouth up deliciousness had me eating not one but TWO servings. The caesar salad was also great, it had a bite to it that wasn't overwhelming. We ordered veal for our entree that came in a red sauce. Meh. It was my first time having veal & I just wasn't that impressed. Maybe I just don't like veal?? We ordered gnocchi on the side, good but not great. For dessert, we bagged two strawberry topped cheesecakes to take home. (Good cheesecake, I would guess they made it in-house.) All in all, this is a great place with a huge menu if you want the best bang for your buck. The portions are huge & the prices are fair. I swear at one point they brought out a foot long calzone & people were standing up from their seats to see what the monstrosity was. The staff was friendly & the guy who served us (I would guess he's the manager or owner) was very friendly and accommodating. When I checked last night this deal was still on Groupon -- GO GET IT... NOW!

I love this place! On saturday morning that is our place for breakfast. The plates are very generous, the omelett is big enough for my husband and I to share. I really like the food, staff are nice, coffee is always fresh, price is amazing and the omelette is from real eggs, not those from boxes...! For me, big difference!:)

I haven't been to Avellino's in probably a decade. But when my girlfriend and I moved in a mile or so away I was excited to see that they delivered. We've gotten Avellino's via Foodler probably close to ten times at this point. The pizza is great, and the other dishes and subs we've tried have been excellent as well. If you're looking for the best of the sub shop type delivery places in the area, I can't imagine a better option.

If you want greasy lasagna served in a bowl, filled with meat that tastes like dog food, this is the place for you. If you want chicken piccatta with a chicken breast as hard as a rock, this is the place for you. If you like your hot Italian sausage cool in the middle, this is the place for you. If you like servers that forget to bring silverware, then bread and also refuse to give them to you when you go up to the counter, you'll be in Heaven here. This is probably the worst Italian food I've ever had. My friend said it was the 4th worst Italian food he'd ever had. We left most of what we bought on the table and bought bagels at Dunkin Donuts to get the taste of Avellino's food out of our mouths.

I lived about two miles from here for nearly three decades before I discovered it. My boyfriend, who is a Medford native, introduced me to this place. I'm one of those people who eat ALL THE TIME. Every few hours or else I get cranky and bitchy. He's quite the opposite and can probably go a whole day without eating. However, due to the fact that he doesn't want to deal with Bitchy Anna, he appeases me and feeds me whenever necessary (I'm like a Gremlin... I come with instructions). This place is down the street from his house, and they deliver, so it's the perfect solution to my eating issue! I can mutter the words "I'm hungry" and within a half hour, I have food and I'm happy. The menu here is MASSIVE. I'm being completely honest when I say that it takes me about ten minutes to decide what I want to order, and I've never ordered the same thing twice. They also do take-out orders and eat-in as well. The food is kinda average, but like I said, it satisfies my cravings. The portions are GINORMOUS. I can see two, possibly three people splitting a pasta or meat dish and be pretty full. The value is pretty decent as well and as I mentioned, the variety is mind-boggling. It doesn't matter what you like, don't like, or if you have any special dietary needs. This place will definitely serve up something that you'll like. I like efficiency.

I should have ordered the damn salad! But instead I wanted a "real" meal. Now, I'm staring at a giant plate of Chicken Picatta, and the saddest looking side salad (but fresh) and kicking myself in the ass because I was torn between this and the Chicken Marsala. I was hoping the Picatta wasn't going to be overly lemony, but went for it anyhow. It's not too lemony, but I can't even describe what is wrong with it, it just tastes weird. The chicken tastes weird, the pasta tastes weird, the sauce tastes weird. I can't figure it out but it's not worth eating. So I am eating my tiny salad (with 1 grape tomato and 1 cucumber slice) and the side of garlic bread I just paid $16 for, after looking forward to a decent amount of leftovers for tomorrow. But the bright side is, tomorrow is trash day.

My partner and I have ordered here for breakfast delivery on a Sunday. I had the veggie omelet, and he had the spinach and feta omelet. Both were fine, large, cheesy and still hot. My only fussy little issue would be that the veggies in my omelet were not really cooked all the way through, and it took away from the creamy cheese and eggs, but it was still tasty! He had an english muffin, I got toast. I'm pretty sure the bread was homemade, and it was still warm when it arrived, how nice! We were also able to order juice, which was great because we were out. It was just like getting room service, and we were both pleased with the lack of dishes and effort :-)

I was almost disappointed, because their escarole soup wasn't made by my grandma. Then I remembered that hers is peerless and impossible to replicate. It's like looking to buy a house for 250k and comparing them all to Monticello. Theirs was very good, with meatballs and chicken chunks, and nice fresh veggies. It arrived piping hot. Seriously, I burned my tongue. That's pretty impressive when you're talking about delivery. I ordered the soup along with a chicken parm meal, which I only barely dented. It was enormous, and yummy enough to make me try to eat more even though I was totally and undeniably stuffed. Huge, with the right amount of sauce and cheese, and that sauce was excellent. Delivery was accurately quoted when I ordered, 45 minutes on a Saturday night. That's not the quickest, but like I said, the food showed up it was like it just came out of the oven. Can't fault them for being busy, there's clearly a reason that's the case.

The food seemed good, I ordered a large cheese with garlic, broccoli, and mushroom pizza with an eggplant parmigiana sub....hours later, I was not feeling well at all...had stomach pains throughout the night and next day....and it wasn't just me who experienced it either!

Avellino's has the most generous portions for the price of their menu. Upon ordering delivery expect for them to arrive w/ a huge box full of your entrees and complimentary salad and bread to last you a week. By far one of the best delivery/dine in/ take out options in the Boston area when looking for some good Italian food. My personal favorite is the lemon chicken and rice. Highly recommend it! Though the dine-in experience isn't fancy the food is amazing!

Holy portion sizes! I currently have a plate of baked ziti that is going to last me for the next four days. Avellino certainly knows how to feed you, and the kicker is that they know how to cook, too. Score. Definitely a great choice when you're hankering for Italian delivery.

Five stars for the huge portions of delicious food and also the generous owners who donate trays of food every year for a holiday party for elderly & disabled adults in Malden. This business helps support the community. I will definably support Avellino's.

The staff leaves something to be desired sometimes, but the food is awesome with huge portions and very reasonable prices. Personal faves include baked ziti, all soups, chicken parm and garlic bread.

When you look at the menu board, it is very easy to get totally overwhelmed. The menu is larger than anything I've ever seen. They also had about five-seven wipe boards up with the specials for the day. Thank god there was a line, cause I really needed some time to think about what I was going to do with all the options I had. They also have (for those who are indecisive like myself) Friday only specials. So many options! It was busy when we went last Friday. My boyfriend, his father and I grabbed up a booth as soon as possible, and picked at our salads as we waited for our dinner. I sat with my mouth watering as the dishes were walked past us to the other tables, and tried to focus on the sox game that was playing in the corner. Our food came out not that much later, and I was again overwhelmed by the sheer size! Holy lots of food! I got the Chicken Asparagus special which came on a massive serving of rice with melted cheese on top (unfortunately it tasted like american cheese...) but it was really good. My boyfriend and his father both got the Veal Parm dinner. Neither of them could make it even halfway through the meal - they each got two plates, one with the veal, one with pasta. There was hardly any room left on the table when all the food was there. This is not a glamorous place, but the food is good enough that you don't really notice/care.

This place went downhill...Went on a recent Saturday and food was terrible. Looks like they have a new crew in the kitchen and food quality has suffered. There was 6 of us and none of the pasta dishes ordered was even fair. TERRIBLE!!! Sad as I use to love this place.

Good quality red-sauce Italian at a reasonable price. Delivery just sweetens the deal. The portions are GINORMOUS. That's Italian for "really fucking huge". I got a chicken/eggplan parm dinner which was a 10" pie tin layered with eggplant parm and topped with four or five chicken cutlets and tons of cheese and tasty red sauce. The ziti came in a separate 8" pie tin. So yeah- that's a lot of food. Also included were a "salad" - a few scraps of romaine, an 1/8 of a tomato, and a teaspoon of Italian dressing - and a hunk of toasted bread. The eggplant was totally mushy; any crispness was lost when it stewed in the sauce and chicken and cheese. The chicken was pretty good, and the sauce was great. Weirdly, the ziti had a different red sauce which just tasted like tomato paste. It was really gross. I would've much preferred they just used the same sauce from the parm. So, to sum up- totally reliable and tasty delivery Italian, huge portions, weird pasta sauce, crappy "salad". All in all I wish I had paid $8, gotten less food, and had the parm served right on the ziti, but it satisfied my "giant plate of red sauce + meat + cheese" craving in a delicious and special way.

I really dont understand the bad ratings for this place. I have been eating here since this place was a little hole in the wall and dont have anything bad to say! Yes the prices are not cheap, but you get what you pay for. My food was never less than great, fresh, and enough to eat for the next two days! I love this place!

Went with a Groupon for 5-course meal. I guess if you count a help-yourself coffee pot and nothing-left-but-mango-or-pineapple-Italian-ice for dessert as a "course" then, yeah, it was. The bruschetta was the star of the show here, lotsa mozz and some fresh baby spinach leaves and toasty-melty-goodness done just right; a big plateful, too, the one thing truly worth going back for. A half-hearted take on antipasto was a serving bowl of iceberg lettuce chunks with a sectioned tomato, some cuke slices, a split hard-boiled egg, a plastic cup of standard Italian dressing on the side... and numerous hearty pinwheels of layered cheeses & deli meats on top that saved it, if barely. Ziti was just a tad mushy, but enough for 4 adults, and the red sauce was thin but tasted acceptably tomatoey. It needed lots of grated parm which was not to be found though. Our veal "saltumbuca" as they spell it was rather oily but had lots of prosciutto and mozz, and TONS of fresh mushrooms, and was enough for three adults. Overall flavor was pleasant and authentic. Here's the thing about this place: It is a sub shop. Yes, they have a few beers and a few bottles of wine if you're lucky, and they DO wait tables if you sit down... But mostly, this is just a big, open, bright, noisy, tiled-floor, walk-in, super-casual sub shop or pizza joint, which also happens to have a MASSIVE menu including pasta & entrees that go way past any other place like it that I know of. They get lower ratings by trying to be a real "restaurant" and then letting people down. They'd get better ratings by being proud to be a great little pizza joint/sub shop with an expanded menu, because we'd know what kind of atmosphere to expect the first time in. So now at least YOU know what to expect, and you won't be put off by the casualness of the place & dock 'em for it, ok? Worth going back for more bruschetta and to try some calzones and subs, which they should be good at. Their web site is actually useful, so check it out for current specials & hours.

I have never been disappointed at this local joint. It is near impossible to not find something on the menu that peaks your interest (unless you are on a no carb diet). The portions are mind blowing - for $12-15 you can eat for 3 days. They have a great take out deal for pizza - 2 large pies for $10 during the week. This is a low key place - you order at the counter and they bring it to your table. You serve yourself on everything. Ample seating and parking available.

This place has the biggest portions. We had the fish special, and while it took a while to come out it was well worth the wait. Flaky and perfectly cooked with nice fresh broccoli as well. The rice was a bit dry but it still tasted OK. Their menu is vast and the portions are HUGE. Check out their "Friday only" menu as well. Next time I am going on a Friday for Haddock Parmesan!

OK, so I've never actually BEEN to Avellino's, but I do get delivery at least once a week if not more. I am never disappointed in this place. Their portions are rediculously large and oh so yummy. Their subs are large enough for 2 people and are under $10. I can get a dinner sized chicken parm and can split it between 3 people. The soup is definitely fresh, and they have the best sauce I've had.

I have been going to Avellinos for about 8 years, I used to live in Medford, and now order when I am visiting family. This place is still good, and portions are fair for the prices. They have good promotion coupons for family deals. However, in the last couple years they have really went downhill compared to when I first started going there. I usually only get delivery now, and the thing that makes me not want to order from here anymore is the not so friendly staff they have. They rush you off the phone, do not give you enough time to order what you actually want, and one time did not even show up or call because they could not find the address. Another time I had breakfast delivered, and got someone elses order. I completely understand mistakes happen, but not even an apology or explanation as to what happened. Very disappointed with the staff. A lot of the times you feel as if you are "bothering" them. Another thing is ordering breakfast ALWAYS takes over an hour to get delivered, and I am only 7 minutes away. Whenever ordering dinner, it is not as bad, but ordering breakfast on a random thursday morning at 10 and not receiving it until after 11am is not acceptable, especially because the staff does not give you an estimate of timing. Like stated before, with the previous owners this place was definitely a 5 star rating, but I would give it about a 3.

Good food cheap! My only complaint is several times they have messed up my order - eggplant pizza without eggplant, didn't want to stand there waiting for another... house salad that should have cheese but didn't. I think the ordering isn't organized, but the food is good.

Looks can be deceiving! My friend recommended this place and after driving by I wasn't too sure, but stopped in anyway. As everyone has said, the portions are huge and you'll have leftovers for days. Besides that, the quality is very good. The carrots and celery in their chicken soup was crisp and fresh. The pasta was cooked perfectly and their tomato sauce (I call it gravy) was delicious. The mussels were fresh and the garlic bread was toasted just right. Try it!

Mamma mia, Avellino's is great! The portions are HUGE and the prices are decent. My friends love this place so much that they do frequent trips from downtown Boston to Medford just for takeout. But then again, they're also willing to drive all the way to NH to get Powerball tickets and then come right back. Buttttt, they could possibly win 300G! Maybe it's worth it?! Ok I got distracted for a sec... back to the review. Anyway, the location is great since it's right off the highway and there are plenty of seats and booths (just like a pizza joint) if you choose to dine in. I've only had a few things off the menu and everything was really good. As mentioned before, the portions are big so Avellino's is great for family style dining or if you don't mind having left overs for the next few nights. The steak bomb is a killer for sure!

I ordered breakfast from here and it hit the spot! No fee and no minimum for delivery -- big points for that! I got a delightful breakfast sandwich (egg, cheese, sausage on wheat) which came with home fries (just potato cubes, essentially). My food came 20 minutes faster than the estimated delivery, the gentleman who delivered it seemed sweet, and I found the whole experience just swell!

  • Phil H.

By far my favorite delivery spot in the area. The portions are crazy big and I haven't been dissatisfied with a single item I've tried. Recommendations: Meatball pizza, Italian Sub, BBQ chicken tips. If you're dining in they also have bottled beer/wine.

  • G D.

I attend a function every year were they use Avellino's as a caterer, and to be honest, I only go for the food. The steak tips are out of this world! I could eat just those. Also the chicken broccoli ziti is very good as well.

I've refrained from posting a review of this restaurant, as I frequently have lunch there, because it's so convenient. After yesterday's lunch, it's off my list. The pricing at Avellino's is outrageous. The always have a few $5.95 "lunch specials", but my $5.95 lunch was $9.40 yesterday, when I added a "Coke". I ordered Chicken Primavera and was delivered Ziti with a 100% bread crumb meatball. If it was busy I could excuse the mistake, but it was 2 pm and I was the only customer in the restaurant (& had already discussed the Ziti and told the guy I didn't want it). I had a Chicken Parm sub last week. $12.95! It was "huge", which was the only good thing I could say about it. The chicken was dry, tasteless and rubbery. The sauce only average. If you ever go in there, read the prices on the Breakfast Menu, they're mind boggling! This restaurant has been around forever and I can't quite figure out how it's lasted so long. Below average food. Ridiculous prices. Incompetent staff. No parking. Dirty. Noisy. Messy. What's to love? I can walk there for lunch, but from now on I'll drive somewhere decent. BTW, there is one worthwhile special when it's available. They have a large, 12 slice piece on special for $9.95 (eat in), once in a while.

Good spot for quick lunch or take out. We get it delivered during the winter days and busy work season. Big portions and the food is pretty good. Chicken & Steak salad's good, chicken parm, meatball, pizza, Italian subs. Can't go wrong.

WOW. I woke up with no food in the fridge and dying for a warm breakfast. Did I run to the grocery store? No. I logged into Foodler and found Avellino's. I was a little leery at first. An Italian restaurant that serves diner style breakfast? But my hunger won. And within less than a half hour, we had the best breakfast ever. Huge veggie omelet with home potatoes, toast, and delicious pancakes. Everything was warm and delicious. I think I found my new go-to breakfast delivery place!

I got the tuna salad. Pretty basic item for a pizzeria joint. Oh my god- I don't even know what this was. I kept examining it because the taste was so off. It hit me, I think they mix the tuna with breadcrumbs! Ew ew ew. Isn't tuna similar to toast at this kind of a quick, take-out place, in that it's impossible to screw up? Well Avellino's has done a spectacular job at failing miserably because their tuna is the worst I have ever tasted. Have ordered the chicken buffalo wrap one other time, wasn't bad. But steer clear of the tuna.

I have been to Avellinos in the past and while it's always been a mixed bag this time was definitely my last. They have opened up a new function hall next door and as nice as it looks it seems to take precedence over the guests dining in or taking out in the regular restaurant. The waitresses are constantly coming in and refilling drinks at the only soda dispenser and customers must wait in line until they are finished. I ordered potato gnocchi with meatballs my gf had chicken ziti broccoli garlic and oil and I got two fountain drinks for 38.00. The meals include garlic bread and salad. I waited about 5-10 minutes and was never given a salad, I waked to the counter to ask the guy if I could get the two salads and he said okay give me a minute, they were obviously trying to handle a party next door. I received salads and as we were finishing our food came, about 5 minutes later the garlic bread which was 2 pieces. The meatballs were small about the size of frozen and I got 3.5 of them. We finished the garlic bread and I went to ask for more and was charged an additional 2.50. We finished our meals and 15 minutes had gone by and still no extra bread. I wrapped my food to go and asked if they could just pack the bread. His response was okay just give me a few minutes I'm making you a fresh one( clearly forgot about it. I can expect this in a busy restaurant and that's fine but the reason for the 1 star was after coming home and opening the left over pasta I found a piece of string or thread in it. Needless to say I will not be going back. There are far better Italian restaurants in and around the area.

Avellino's is a no frills family run neighborhood Italian Restaurant. It is the type of place where you see the whole family working the kitchen. I love that. Their food is freshly made with giant portion sizes. They offer all types of Italian classic veal, chicken parmesan pasta dishes. On my most recent visit, I had a classic. The chicken broccoli ziti alfredo was perfect. A huge portion with pleanty of chicken and broccoli smothered in creamy sauce, piping hot when I got it home. All the entree's are served with a choice of soup or salad and an order of garlic bread. This meal served two - three people for less than $15. Wonderful.

Food here is excellent but the customer service is lacking. Service is slow for delivery and take out. If you have tge patience go for it!

I come here for breakfast only. The line can take longer than getting the food. Quick solid breakfast without the hassle of standing around like in most Somerville breakfast spots... Worth a try.

We ordered from here for work and I got the Italian sub. Very huge, very tasty, very reasonable priced (for the customer). My sister got the grilled chicken caesar and that was pretty huge as well. They do tend to take a little longer than most places when delivering at lunch time. I actually would rate this place a 3.5 but half stars aren't a thing here. Oh well!

This is my favorite sub place in Medford. Italian sub and steak tip subs. Love the Friday seafood specials and the quality and size of the subs are huge. They have fantastic service and an incredible staff. I would highly recommend this place for family and business orders.

First time our company ordered it was, well, OK.. It wasn't great, but OK....Next time 7 orders and ALL but one said "terrible". .. I had Chicken Giovanni and it was literally not edible (last time it was OK. But this time terrible). The chicken was overdone and hard. It honestly tasted like it had been baked 3 days ago and reheated today. Even the pasta was like a rock ("Al Dente" would have been fine. This was like "Al-Dental-Work"!!). Even a chicken ceasr salad was a total fail... There are som many other places on Foodler in the area that this place rates a "AVOID". It just wasn't enjoyable at all.

I remember coming here in high school because they had these huge awesome subs... Flash ten years later the place is awful. I ordered 4 different times from them and all the same result. The pasta and sauce was awful. The next time I ordered from them I got a salad.... Not anything you can really mess up but they managed to. Both times wrong dressing, no silverware, wilted lettuce wrong temp on the steak tips... The steak tips tasted bad... And to top it off I ordered a drink with my order and the delivery guy took the money and told me my drink was in the car... He came back 35 minutes later. When I called to tell them what happened they said the next salad is on us ask for Peter. Next time I called Peter was too busy to come to the phone... I ordered again since they said they would take care of it and the man on the phone had the nerve to tell me to tip extra to the driver since the order was free ... As if I don't know how to tip. The free order was disgusting... I wouldn't feed their food to my dog.

I'm picky so I almost never give out 5 stars but their food is very good and arrives hot. I wish the home fries were a bit crispier bit the seasoning was great (mmm fresh parsley). I had a great breakfast sandwich and my co-workers had a variety of eggs - all of which were great.

Avellinos can be a hit or miss. Sometimes you order something and it's outstanding! Other times you can order the exact same thing and it might not be so great. Examples could be watery sauce or Alfredo, not as much cheese as a time before, different size garlic breads, etc. they need to work on quality consistency. Most of the time the food is great. But they are beginning to get outrageous with the prices. I used to order a couple times a week, but now it's so expensive that I just order a couple times a month.

Sole purpose of this review: ALL-DAY BREAKFAST DELIVERY. Yes, you heard that right. I knew of Avellinos menu for quite some time, that they offer all day breakfast, delivered. Was a total skeptic and we FINALLY took the plunge on one of those special lazy Sundays where the energy and ingredients for omelets and home fries were just not handy. The phone was.... The restaurant was a little abrupt on the phone, but took our order for omelets and sure enough, 30 minutes later a hot (well, very very warm!) breakfast was at our fingertips. Good portions, awesome flavor on the potatoes, and the omelet was just as good as any better diner around. NOTE: This was a veggy-only order, so I cannot comment on any of the breakfast "meats" They got the order right, and it was not cold or slimy like my fear of getting eggs delivered. Even the toast was crispy. It exceeded our expectations. The only bummer is that the Foodler page is not user-friendly, it doesn't have the full menu & it does NOT allow you to build your own omelet, which is why we had to call in and deal with the aforementioned abrupt order taker. Im not complaining though. It worked out fine in the end! It's just a pet peeve of mine when they do not read back your order to verify it's correct before hanging up. I hope they fix their on-line issues, and we will be sure to re-order then next time breakfast laziness strikes! Don't be afraid (or ashamed) of breakfast...delivered. All told, 20 bucks plus a tip for the driver .... totally worth it.

Outbursts of flavor in every meal!. Always get something on the daily special. Well worth it, the portions are outrageously well worth every penny. I got the shrimp with stir-fry and rice, the stir-fry was not your usual, it has zucchini and squash and just delicious to my liking. the shrimp was fully cooked and the rice was pretty good, they had my food ready and delivered very good customer service for people with high volume. I ordered a ceasar salad........it was enough for about three people! Veggies..i love my salads. it had homemade croutons!! Italians know how to make it do what it do though. I kow good flavor. The garlic is the downfall...bring a toothbrush for post meal activities.... all in all if your looking for a hearty meal! its def a go-to when in the area

The food hits the spot, just hearty Italian food with solid breakfast and steak tip options. I wish the staff was nicer though. I submitted an order via Foodler while I was at the gym, showed up 10 minutes past the pick-up window and it still wasn't done yet. Having just come from the gym my blood sugar was non-trivially low and I needed some sugar ASAP. So I go over to the condiment station to get a sugar packet (and some S&P for my dinner), saw that they had jelly packets, grabbed one to eat right there since it's more appealing than granulated sugar and proceeded to get a lecture by one of the staff members who had followed me over there about how the jelly was only for breakfast items, etc, etc and that I wasn't allowed to take them. Dizzy, grumpy, physically intimidated, and really really needing to eat at this point I just took my food as it was and left. As often as I usually eat there I was so put off by this experience -- and interactions with this individual in general over the years -- that I probably will be not be going back for a while.

This place is on Foodler so I order from here when I'm in the mood for some chicken and eggplant parmigiana which even in the piccolo (small entrees) version still requires 2 separate containers, one for the pasta and one for the chicken eggplant parm itself. Talk about huge quantity. Tonight, just for the heck of it, I also ordered the blueberry pancakes for dinner. Or I should say griddle cakes. Because they were quite possibly the BEST pancakes/griddle cakes I've ever had. EVER. And this was after they've been sitting in the delivery car. So thick, so fluffy, & the blueberries weren't sugary like from a jar but slightly tart like from fresh produce. Avellino you're not just the go-to pasta takeout places when I'm hungry for carbs any more. Who'd know you guys make the meanest pancakes this side of town. (ps. the syrup that came with the pancakes was pretty weak...better pour your own real Canadian maple syrup)

On Friday April 3rd 2015, one of my employees placed an online order for lunch. Without going into detail, there was a "communication" error with the delivery person. Once the food was delivered to our 3rd floor office, I spoke with the owner from Avellino's. He promised that he would take care of the problem and also send along lunch for all my employees on monday. - at 11:30am today - an incredible lunch arrived for my 10 employees. The food was awesome and I want to Thank Avellino's for this customer service. 5 stars all the way. I am sure my employee's and myself will be ordering more food from these guys.

The "A Bomb" delivered breakfast is a Winner!! I was a touch disappointed with the pizza- the sauce doesn't have much flavor- neither does the cheese- lunchtime, subs are Great!! And fish sub on Fri winner as well!! Great lunch joint!!

Tried the caesar salad and it was delicious. Crisp, well dressed and comes with croutons and garlic bread. Ordered the Caesar again last week and delivery was slow "over an hour with no acknowledgment" and arrived without garlic bread. Would have given more stars if the service was better.

Place has the best roast beef melt and club I've ever had. I get it fairly regularly from there and I am never disappointed. One reason this place doesn't get the 5 star rating is the service. The people behind the counter are usually not pleasant, and the delivery (even though we are right down the road) takes at least an hour everytime. Regardless, this place is excellent and I will always go back.

Lot's of food but nothing interesting. Quantity over quality. Maybe it's a coincidence but the day after using my debit card here my account was hit with fraud from a village in Italy.

Yeah. SO good. So, OK, I'm home one Saturday night, thinking of ordering Chinese. Then I think, eh, maybe not. I go to my binder of menus ( I know, I know,) pull out a few, and think, huh, I haven't tried Avellino's in a while. They have great meatballs. Let me check them out. So, I go to their website. My thinking is that I'll order a few different things, eat a little of everything, and have some left over for the next day. I order a bacon burger, a meatball sub, fries, onion rings and buffalo fingers. The total is about $40, less than I'd have paid for a Chinese food order, and not bad for two meals worth of food. It takes a little while to arrive, but when it does, I'm presented a BOX of food. No joke. The fries and the onion rings are like meals themselves. I end up eating a few of the chicken fingers (did I mention they come marinated in any of THIRTY-SEVEN different sauces??) as well as maybe 1/3 of the fries and a few onion rings. Never touched the sub or the burger. Three meals later and I STILL have most of the sub and half of the chicken left. That's how much food you get. OK, you say, great - you get a lot of food. But is it any good? Well. The onion rings are probably the best I've ever had. Ever. I don't eat onion rings often, to be fair, but it's not like I haven't had many in my day. These are incredible. Not too thick. Very crispy, to the point where when I took them out of the refrigerator TWO days later, without re-heating them, they were STILL crispy - how is that even possible? And unlike almost every onion ring in the history of onion rings, the batter doesn't crumble or slide and peel right off of the onion. It's like magic. The fries are best eaten fresh. They dry out a little after a while. But, to be fair, nothing some ketchup doesn't completely hide. The chicken is sooo fresh, and I had them in the sesame honey buffalo sauce. YUM! Great hot, great cold, can't go wrong. The subs, about the length of my entire forearm, are also great. The meatballs are delicious. If I ordered again, I might ask for extra sauce, or a side of sauce. They don't put much red sauce on the meatball sub. But it didn't make it a problem, really, because the meatballs are that moist and tasty. The burger, too, was fine. I can't say too much, because I took it out of the refrigerator, microwaved it (!!) for a minute, and ate it. So, the bun was a little chewy. But the meat was still like fresh. There was also some inexplicable "extra" food I got. The burger came with a small bag of chips, which was in the burger box. But there was another bag of chips in the order box. I also got a small piece of garlic bread - don't know why, since I didn't order any pasta meals. (But it made me happy. I wanted to actually order some garlic bread, but, oddly, it's not listed as an appetizer to order, even though it's included with most of the pasta meals.) So, I've raved for too long, but it's only because Avellino's is that good. All the food was delicious, and I got 5 - 6 meals for $40. OH - but if you go to pick your food up there, or eat there, PLEASE don't park ON Mystic Ave!! You're parking IN the road - there's no parking lane. The people parking on the road make me insane, and should be towed.

I only get one thing here. Oh yay sure Italian food, no, being an Italian I find it hard to eat out at Italian places because it's not my Moms or Ninas; fair enough. My BF enjoys this spot so we've ordered from here a bunch of times over the past 2 years of him living near here, fine. I've zoned in on one thing I always get and hope they don't mess up; medium rare steak tips over butter pasta. Good mix, I add the cheese and red pepper flakes at the house and viola! He's always getting a different thing and I try it but sure it's fine, I just stick with what I know. It's not that I'm a picky eater, but when it comes to Eggplant, if my Nina didn't make it; that's a sin and nothing compares to it, I've never found another eggplant I've enjoyed.. but I digress. The space is large and their parking is sort of tricky because what might look like a parking lot isn't? Or is it? This is the debate we always have when we go to pick up the food, because it's a curb up and it's very strange. The serve beer and wine inside, nice. A TV for entertainment, it's always brightly lit and lots of seating. Staff is generally very friendly and delivery is fairly quick.

I've been going to Avellino's since they opened in 2000 and absolutely love the place. The portions are huge and the prices are great for how much you get. Their menu is HUGE and everything I've ever had there has been fresh and delicious. I get delivery from Avellino's often but I also love eating there. Some of my favorite items on their menu would have to be steak tips over Greek salad, the chicken salad sandwich, and the chicken breast with tomato and mozzarella.

The prices are good...but that's about it. I came here with a Groupon for a 5 course meal and was immediately impressed with the service. The staff was very friendly and helpful considering how packed the restaurant was (2 days before the groupon expired). However, the food was bad. The bruschetta and caeser salad were just so-so. The 2 stars are derived from what they call chicken saltimbocca. I am astonished that the waitress/chefs thought that this was ok to serve to a customer. The dish should have been called Clarified Butter Stew (please reference the photo that I uploaded and you will see what I am talking about). Truly disgusting.

I come to Boston a few times a year for business and love this place. The steak and cheese is great. I asked for extra mayo the first time I got it and they forgot to add it and I wasn't disappointed at all. The Italian is also great. Delivery person was courteous and pleasant to deal with. Will keep this place on rotation when I'm in Bean Town :) I love this city.

Great Italian food it's pretty cheap as well. Not fancy but good quality dishes and you get the perfect amount of food. Be ready to bring leftovers home... The pasta dishes alone feed up to two or three people... I have been getting food from here for a very long time and I highly doubt that that will never change.

whatever you do, dont go here with a groupon, the people were rude and ignorant when i gave them my certificate and cooked my food exactly opposite of how i asked for it, they planked it down on the table and NEVER asked how it was or anything even resembling courtesy or hospitality.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
