Here I go with strip mall restaurants again... I drive by this place on my way to work and finally made the effort to stop in last night for dinner. Boy am I glad that I did! The interior of this restaurant is so different from what you would expect and has such a cool modern/Asian atmosphere and design to it, right from the moment you walk in the wooden style doors to the neatly lit up orange stones along the interior seating sections which makes it almost appear to be hot fiery stones. For my meal I had: -Maguro, Himachi, The Sexy Girl roll, and The Spicy Yellow Tail roll. Glass of Hobnob Pinot Noir which went great with everything. Everything tasted fresh and had great flavor. I wish that I took a picture of the The Sexy Girl roll, which was served on a decorated plate with a drawing of a girl's face and the roll made up her bangs. It was cute. You can tell this is the type of place that puts a lot of thought into everything. The only thing I noticed was that their cuts of maguro and himachi are much smaller than most places however I don't mind that so much because the small cuts make it easier to enjoy rather than trying to shove a huge chunk of fish in your mouth and attempt to chew without any spilling out. I will definitely come back here again when I'm craving sushi. (which is about once a week lol)

I can't believe we've lived in this area for 2 1/2 years and never ventured over to Kyoto. LOVED IT. It is really quite beautiful inside, very friendly and attentive staff. We only ate from the sushi menu, everything we had was quite delicious. There was a nice mix of families with kids to couples on dates, to older people as well. We had our baby and 3 year old with us. It was pretty lively in there so we were not the ones making the most noise, that was good. We will be putting Kyoto on our "go to" list of restaurants for sure.

Maybe a little better than a "3", honestly. I have to admit, the interior is much, much classier than I'd expected for the little strip mall in which this is located. Trouble is, it's also loud. My wife and I went on a Friday night, and even with only about 1/2 to 2/3's of the seats filled, we had to raise our voices to hear one another. The food is pretty good though. We ordered a Sexy Girl roll (sushi) as an appetizer and the presentation was pretty awesome: a girl's face drawn in sauce, with the maki as hair. In fact, the presentation for every item was pretty spiffy. One complaint on the food: the seared tuna I ordered, while flavorful, was a bit tough. Is it pricey? Depends on what you order. For instance, while the maki we had was $13, there are a bunch of rolls around $5. If you watch what you order, you could probably eat pretty cheap here. My tuna dish was $19, but my wife's noodles were only $12, IIRC. I do think it's strange that they bill themselves as a steakhouse seeing as at least half the menu is sushi. Not a complaint, just an observation. I'd definitely be willing to give the place another shot. Not sure if they do take-out, but if nothing gets done about the volume, I'd probably end up sticking with that.

I have to agree with Robert S that we were excited by this place based on it's high reviews and we left disappointed. And that was with a coupon. My wife had the sushi and ended up sending it back. She just wasn't a fan of it. I had a chicken dish that you can obviously tell wasn't memorable. Since I can't remember the name. Not sure what happened to the jewel others are talking about but it wasn't there the night we stopped in.

Kyoto is a beautiful new Japanese Steakhouse located in Mansfield, MA. Mushed between a laundromat and a convenience store the outside of the restaurant doesn't give it justice. Inside is an absolutely beautiful romantic and trendy atmosphere - glowing pink and brown stones, orange glowing leaves on the ceilings, full sushi bar and liquor bar. The service was very quick and friendly. The wait-staff seemed to enjoy what they were doing, although maybe they're still in the happy honeymoon stage of their jobs since the restaurant has only been open about a month. I tried Sake' for the first time here and although I thought it tasted like hot rubbing alcohol the Sake-tini was much much better, a splash of cranberry, pineapple and sakke. Yum yum. I do not care for seafood but my boyfriend's choice of sushi looked fresh and amazing. He enjoyed it. A full platter of sushi will cost about $20 but they do sell it a la carte as well for about $2 per piece. I opted for the terriyaki chicken and white rice with vegetables, a full filling plate that I was unable to finish for about $13. Kyoto is a little pricey but the experience is great. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a nice place to take a family member or for an upscale date-night.

Absolutely LOVED this new restaurant! Kyoto is located in a small plaza, sandwiched between a laundry mat and pizza shop - definitely does it no justice for the beautiful ambiance and décor inside. There's a full bar to the right of the restaurant and a sushi bar in the back. The room is lit with splashes of orange on the ceiling. You would think you're in a restaurant on Newbury St rather than in the suburbs. But the great thing about being a restaurant in the burbs is that they can't put a big dent in your wallet for delicious Japanese food. We had a feast for dinner because everything was so good! My ABSOLUTE favorites: Soups & Salads - Seaweed Salad Kitchen Appetizers - Crispy Calamari and chicken wings Kyoto's Ultimate Rolls - Sexy Girl shrimp tempura roll was the BEST Sushi Boat - HUGE. Had everything you could possibly ask for on it. Hibachi Dinner - Chicken and Steak. The fried rice was oh so yummy. The staff is also super friendly and helpful on menu selection. In case you have any non seafood lovers, they have plenty of cooked food for you to choose from. Their bar drinks were also really good. I'm going to suggest to the manager, Chris, that they should open a store in Boston. I think Kyoto also owns China Rama Restaurant in Norwood.

Illegal happy hour at the bar Monday-Wednesdays all bottled beer just 2 bucks. I don't eat sushi but everyone I know says it is excellent here. Have eaten steak here on a few occasions and it was good, but I come here for the $2 beers.

This is the kind of place that could only survive in a Japanese restaurant vacuum. Reading the reviews, you might think it has good sushi. If the only sushi you have ever had was your goldfish, then you might like this place.

Went here for NYE dinner with the hubby. It was great. The service was awesome, we got seated right away even though we were 10 minutes early for our reservation, staff was friendly and the food was great. I got sushi that came with miso soup. My husband got a hibachi meal that came with mushroom soup. He is not a fan of mushrooms so we swapped soup. It was good all around. The sushi was so fresh. I would go back again if I was down in that area.

Kyoto is a truly exceptional Sushi Rest. I travel frequently and have had sushi at some of the finest restaurants in the country but Kyoto's sushi, its quality, freshness and presentation are amongst the finest in the country, bar none! I jewel in Mansfield. I have eten there several times now and have tasted my way through most of their menu. I have never been dissapointed with anything I have ordered. At Kyoto, be bold, be daring, try something you never have before and then enjoy the experience! Their sushi chefs are experts that mix the flavors, textures, temperatures, and sauces to create delectable dishes that are presented with amazing artwork (made from their sauces) on the dishes including, fish, birds, doves, trees, and even a beautiful girl as the garnish for the Sexy Girl roll! A must try!

First let me start by saying that I really wanted to give Kyoto 3.5 stars but you cannot give half star here on yelp. My husband and I decided to give this place a try as we were craving for Japanese food on our way to shop @ the Wrentham Village Outlet (it is not far from the outlet mall, maybe a 10 - 15 min drive). The interior of the place is very nice. It reminded me a little bit of Feng Restaurant in Milbury, MA. We did not have good experience @ Feng so I was really hoping that this place is better, and it was. We each ordered a lunch special. I had the salmon teriyaki lunch special and hubby had the steak negimaki lunch special. I also had a lychee martini. While the martini tasted average, they gave me 3 whole lychees. I have had lychee martinis at a couple of other Japanese restaurants before, and usually they would only give you 1 or at the most 2 lychees. So that was nice. Lunch specials came with BOTH miso soup, salad, and 3 pieces of shrimp shumai. The miso soup was really good, lots of tofu and seaweed pieces in it. The size was slightly bigger than what we were accustomed to. The salad was good, according to my husband (I do not eat salad). The dressing was not runny, pretty good consistency from what I could see. The shumai came on top of a little bit of sauce, which tasted quite good although we are not sure what it was. Salmon teriyaki tasted average. It came on a bed of stir-fried small pieces of vegetables, which I absolutely loved. My husband's steak negimaki came with mushrooms. The mushrooms were very tasty. While the steak was done perfectly, the taste was a little bland. Service was so-so. The waitress took our orders, brought out our drinks and food in a timely manner. However, she did not stop by at our table to ask how we were doing or how things were. The only other times she stopped by after dropping off our food were to clear our empty plates, ask if we wanted dessert, and drop off our check. The size of the lunch special was just right for us. We were full but not stuffed when we were done. The price of the lunch special is pretty good, around $ 9, which is comparable to some other Japanese restaurants. Things I mentioned above put Kyoto's lunch special a notch better than the other Japanese lunch specials we have had. If it was not for the bland steak and the so-so service, we would have given Kyoto 4 stars. But definately we will go back there again and this time we will try their sushi instead.

We first visited with a coupon and liked the place very much. Since then we have tried to visit every few weeks and have made this about as regular a restaurant visit as possible. Chris, the owner/ bartender is attentive and conversational - if you want. The atmosphere/decor is unique and you can tell a lot of thought was given. The food is great and we've loved almost everything we've gotten. In addition you may be treated to samplers, which is great and will often lead to us ordering that food the next visit. With a boom of new Asian restaurants that have recently opened in Mansfield this place is a must try and in my opinion leads the pack.

The miso soup and sushi rock! The kids combination plates were probably the most interesting, decorative and well thought out entrees that I've seen. Mixed drinks were VERY reasonable. Service was very good considering they tolerated my kids who were being very annoying that day (sorry to say). They also gave us a complimentary app sampler. Nicely decorated. Perfect for families or a date...which is hard to suit both. In my opinion, Kyoto in Mansfield (and Mai Pearl in Foxboro) are the best sushi in the Boston suburbs area...and possibly rival any of the top ones in Boston that I've eaten. Will definitely be back!

A hidden gem in a tiny strip-malll, Kyoto is trendy, hip, casual, and cool. The food is terrific and you can't beat the ambiance and price. The waitstaff is very on-point and pleasant. The soup and salad are comparable to any upscale sushi restaurants in Boston and the bento boxes are just about the best deal going in all of New England. My kids eat tobiko and we were surprised that it arrived in an array of colors: green, yellow, red and black. Stellar. The cooked dishes outdid the sushi but overall everything was terrific and this is definitely going to be one of my new favorite eateries.

My husband and I went here with some friends for dinner. Ditto to all of the comments on the creative and vibrant decor- we were very surprised to find such a interesting spot in such a "meh" locale. Service was friendly and prompt- and staff brought over a small dish and a free drink for us to taste before even getting our dinners! We all tried versions of the sake drinks- and I can speak very highly of the sake-tini and (surprisingly enough) the sake margarita. Three of us started with the mushroom soup- boiling hot, salty, and delicious- accented with scallions and paper thin slices of mushroom. Our appetizers- the crispy duck spring rolls and the pork gyoza- were very tasty and just the right size for sharing. As for dinner orders we were all over the board- one tried the hibachi steak/chicken combo, one of us tried a chicken and broccoli dish, and two of us ordered specialty rolls (the special of the night- the "out of control" roll- and the godzilla roll). I wasn't a huge fan of the chicken dish- which was sort of a combo between orange chicken and sesame chicken, but with pineapple chunks- but the veggies and fruit were fresh and the portion was plentiful. Absolutely beautiful presentation with the rolls- on one plate the chefs used sauce to draw a koi, and on the other, a few birds on a branch. We were all very happy with our orders! And, if you have room for dessert, I highly recommend the baked Alaska, which is almost too pretty to eat. A toasted tower of meringue hides ice cream and big gobs of honey-toasted coconut, accented by a few fruit sauce drizzles. If you're in the area, definitely try this spot!

Food here is decent, decor is nice but bring someone here for their birthday because they blast their birthday music its hilarious!

My husband and I dined here shortly after they opened and were very impressed. The decor and atmosphere is geared toward late night dining and every time we dined in it was always very crowded. We shared gyoza, shumai, CA rolls, salmon, and udon soup - all were very tasty! For dessert the baked alaska hit the spot nicely. Take out is just as good with no skimping on portions or taste. I often ordered salmon and miso for lunch on the days I could make it over and the lunch portions/prices are very reasonable. Great for a date night or for a quartet of friends.

Overall this is a good place. The staff is friendly, the food is good, and the drinks are well made. Sometimes they come around with sushi samples or drink samples for you to try. The pricing is reasonable and the menu has many options. However, I just can't think of any one component that sticks out- it's a good restaurant, but it's exactly what I expected it to be, so I'm going to have to go with 3 stars.

nice decor, good selection of entrees and sushi. Been here three times, each time the food was great. boku box for lunch was a good value and a welcome departure from my normal lunchtime fare. I especially like the fact that there are no hibachi tables here, but hibachi entrees are offered. That way im not paying for the show when I really just want to eat.

Just ok...My husband and I got takeout from here a couple of weeks ago. My husband picked it up and said the man at the front didn't greet him with a hello, just asked his name...not a huge deal, but then never said bye and thank you??!! The place was pretty much empty so no reason why he couldn't have said thank you. We got an assortment of rolls and a seaweed salad. The rolls were just ok, not good, just ok. A few hours after we finished, neither one of us felt to great. We will not go back here. Just my opinion though!

Wow. Call me impressed! I've been watching the signs for the coming of Kyoto for months, and last night, my boyfriend and I finally made it here for dinner. We were blown away by the decor of the place - it is absolutely beautiful inside. All the staff we encountered were prompt and friendly. We ended up having a fairly extravagant meal - I had 2 glasses of Riesling, the edamame appetizer, a California roll and a specialty roll, and the Creme Brulee for dessert. My boyfriend had 2 sake margaritas, the Crab Rangoon, a California roll and the Spider-man roll, and the Green Tea ice cream for dessert. Everything was fresh and fabulous tasting. The designs on the sushi plate were beautiful. The price for all this fabulousness was about $76, which is a little steep for the area, but so worth it. Highly recommended.

  • Kelly R.

Tried it again, went in and ordered a Bento Sushi box and felt it was nothing special ~ The California roll was Meh - the cucumber slices in it were mostly just the skin of the cucumber - providing a crunch and a bitter, not tasty after taste. The salad dressing was on the runny side. The sushi was not cold - I like my raw fish a little on the chilled side, which made me sad - I adore the interior decorating, but it is really the only thing it has going for it.

Besides the food being just great the place its hot and fancy. My girl loved the maki rolls and I can't describe how good the hibachi salmon was. Out of many places that I've gone for dinner I have yet to see a place where one of the first things the waiter did was to bring appetizer on the house and if that was not enough a few min later he came back with some Mai Tai sample shots.

5 stars for friendly and accomodating customer service: we originally made reservations for 6 people on the day of, then later in the day changed it to 10 - 13, then changed it again to 14 people. We all got to sit together. Our orders included appetizers and entrees which ranged from sushi to chicken to fish to beef to vegetarian. All seemed satisfied with their meals. Due to dietary constraints no one ordered liquor or dessert and the staff didn't bat an eyelash, in fact, they treated us to two additional appetizers "on the house" so that we could try them. Everyone loved the "Yum Yum Salad". My short ribs were tender and flavorful but I wish it had more of an Asian flavor and this caliber of a restaurant should offer brown rice. We all thought the decor and ambiance was inviting and interesting. We will definitely try Kyoto again!

Kyoto was great. We had a drink each (Chardonay and Sapporo) and dinner. It came quickly, was hot, very good portions, friendly service and great atmosphere. Only regret was not having a lot of time to stay due to other commitments. The bar area isn't huge but looked like a cool spot. Don't let the location fool you. The strip-mall type location doesn't take away from anything. One of the better restaurants in the area and very much worth going to.

This place is a gem. The atmosphere is fun and the food is excellent. We've been here a few times with a small group for sushi and noodles and we always have a great meal. Our favorite is the Sexy Lady - it is so good we often get it for takeout. The place isnt usually crowded so the waits are minimal. It is in a odd location in a strip mall next to a pizza place and a food mart. Dont be fooled, this is a quality place. This is the nicest of all the Asian restaurants in the Mansfield/Foxboro/Easton area.

I had a great experience at this restaurant. The food was excellent, the service was great and the price wasn't bad! I can't wait to go bad and I definitely recommend this restaurant to others (especially the lobster tempura roll - yum!).

Didn't know what to expect from this place based on the reviews, but my boyfriend and I have seen signs all around town and decided to try it. ( with a $3 gift card from restraurant.com worth $25) he got the sexy girl roll, Hawaii roll, and spicy tuna roll and I got a filet and chicken habachi plate and we were both pleasantly surprised. Very delicious and we will definitely be going back!

I must say that I have been on a huge sushi kick lately so this review is aimed at that aspect of this restaurant. Let me say in one word horrible. The only good thing about the sushi is the rice. I started with easy staples and lost my appetite and never progressed from there. The tuna and salmon nigiri were terrible. The tuna was definitely old as it was already degrading and turning into grayish red mush. The salmon was a little better and i actually managed to eat that. My dinner ended abruptly when i put the yellow-tail shashimi in my mouth. I actually dry heaved and almost threw up. It had an almost putrid rotten fish taste that makes me sick thinking about it. Never ever order anything raw from this place. I also noticed a few other patrons not finishing the sushi on their plates some with half eaten nigiri on them, (very unusual for a sushi place) I can only guess they had the same unfortunate experience I had. Aside from that the place looks nice inside, the waitstaff is good and actually refunded most of my sushi purchase. The others in my group ordered cooked food and most had good things to say. I just cant get by that memory of that horrible taste, I won't be going back here.

Hidden off Route 106 in Mansfield, this restaurant is a hidden gem. The Sushi is custom made and fresh. We have come there many times and always come for the Sushi. The selection is amazing and each bite is amazing, clean and authentic. Their recent "One Price Buffet" menu (not food in servers you have to go get - rather a menu you can select what you want to try brought to your table - all for one price - and you eat until you are full). My favorite appetizer is the "Yum Yum Salad" . However the vegetable tempura is also great - it's not over battered, served hot and contains vegetables that you would not normally expect - like Malanga - who would expect this - but soooo good. The best time to go is early lunch or early dinner - the place is normally not packed and you get amazing attention and service before it gets busy. If you like Sushi, variety and want to experiment - try the "One Price Buffet Menu" - you won't be disappointed. The beverage selection is great - ask for the Saki in the Can - goes fast - but so good!

Me & my hubs came here for dinner last Friday night. I am 89% sure that we've also ordered deliver from here as well, because there are literally three places in Mansfield that deliver as far as I can tell... but it's hard to be sure. We didn't order sushi that night, and we definitely should have! We got sushi last Friday night. Disclaimer: I am not one of those finicky people who likes authentic sushi. I like my sushi nice and Americanized. Tempura batter in the roll? yes. Mayo? oh yes. Spicy everything with a jalapeno in it? yes yes yes. Sushi is pretty much the only application for mayo, in my estimation. I draw the line at cream cheese, though. It has to stop somewhere. Anyways, we ordered three or four cut rolls and a crab rangoon appetizer, and we were happy and full by the time we wrapped the meal. Two things that impressed me, in addition to very tasty food: 1. Service was great. These guys know how to run a restaurant! In addition to our server asking if we needed anything, the two or three other employees who popped by our table to remove plates or refill water for us also asked, including a woman who is probably either the owner or manager. That's always a good sign- when everyone in the place is pitching in, ahhh I love it. 2. Despite the strip mall exterior, this place is pretty swanky and attractive on the inside! If you've only ordered delivery, I strongly recommend going inside and having a meal sometime. They had a big, cool bar, and a cool room divider that back-lights some pretty rocks. It was really nice! IMHO this is an awesome place to bring a date! Hubs and I will be back for sure.

Ordered delivery to my hotel room- based on previous yelp reviews for the let it snow roll and the menu description I had to try the white tuna. And it was just as the previous reviews said- delicious!!! The fish was fresh and very creamy texture. I also ordered the tuna tartare appetizer. What can I say I'm a very huge fan of Tuna, very fresh fish but needed a bit more seasoning so I added a bit of spicy mayo and mixed it in with a drizzle of real sauce and it was just perfect!!! Overall great sushi and delivery was reasonably timed- very fresh fish

I ordered the chicken Pad Thai and I was NOT impressed at all. My sister ordered the all you can eat sushi and she loved it. The service is slow and not very friendly. Overall it was an ok experience.

  • Melanie M.

I will preface by saying I did takeout and assume food would be better dining in. They should take their padthai off the menu - it's nothing like the authentic dish and didn't taste that great at all. Their sushi roll was just ok. I won't get take out again but maybe stop in to eat.

Seemed like a good place, until we sat down. We were greeted by a frantic waiter who was running around greeting other tables. Literally sprinting around the place. We both got a miso soup, it was gross. No taste at all. From there I moved on to the spicy tuna roll; not great. My husband got the beef udon... Mediocre at best. The bill was $50 including 2 beers but it seemed over charged. For the quality of the food $35 would have been a fairer price. Maybe it was an off day for them but I would not go back.

I went there last Sun for lunch and 3 of us got the Sushi buffet .......service was very good and the food was outstanding.Good deal and spent 75.00 plus tip.....very nice. I go back on Tuesday for lunch and am told " no all you can eat sushi until 3 pm" I have a couple of problems 1) why did we were served the sushi buffet on Sunday lunch ? 2) I was told after that I was too early and would have to wait until 3 pm...there is 2 sushi chefs and the dining room had 2 parties of 2, and 1 single person. 5 people dining at 12:35 on Tuesday ? Is there much difference between 12;35 and 3 pm ? When you have a special.....you want large amounts of people to try your restaurant....I'm here during the days only, We went to another " all you can eat sushi" down the street. They had 2 sushi chefs and about 2/3 full......

This is my favorite sushi place in Mansfield. The Red Curry Chicken soup is amazing, and my husband and I have yet to have a roll we didn't like. Even when it's busy, the food comes out quickly and the service is always good. The ambiance is perfect for a date night. The decor is beautiful and the music is relaxing.

ALL the food is amazing here. I travel to Mansfield once a month for a week for work. I've tried several restaurants in the area but I continue to come back here. My goal is to try every dish on the menu eventually. I've tried about 1/3 of the menu so far. Something new every time and I have been very please each time. They really do it well here. Simply amazing food and presentation.

We were super excited to come here. The food wasn't good. I got the shrimp and avocado roll and it was probably the worst sushi I've ever had. Over priced. The people weren't that friendly....

I've been searching for a while for a quality sushi spot. This place received great reviews so I thought I'd give it a shot. I believe I've found it!! I usually don't review a place after one visit, but I'm confident my future visits here will be just as enjoyable! Started off with a Zombie while I checked out the menu. Decided on the sushi and sashimi combo. Excellent presentation! Superb quality at a very reasonable price! Decided to try the crispy duck spring rolls and chicken wings which were very enjoyable too! The bartender and waitstaff are very friendly and helpful. It's definitely worth my 30 minute venture! Believe this to be my new sushi place!!

I found the sushi here to be very good quality. I got the maki trio for lunch--spicy salmon, tuna avocado, and California roll. All very good, but I thought the salmon was the best. The meal came with some very good miso soup. Also very good--with mushrooms and seaweed. Service was excellent. I recommend this restaurant.

If I could do a negative star I would. Service was horrible. I ordered rock shrimp and got frozen shrimp horribly fried and with sweet and sour sauce not spicy mayo...per their menu! I cancelled the rest of order so I wouldn't be further disappointed!

    (1)
  • L C.

This is purely for their takeout. I ordered a hibachi dinner for take out in addition to other items, I can tell you I will never order it again. It was beyond evident that the meal was pre packaged and frozen then reheated when someone ordered it. The scallops were dry and cracked. The shrimp was rubbery, chicken dry, veggies soggy. And EVERYTHING was sitting this unidentifiable...soupy mess at the bottom of the container. It was just gross. $19 for two spoonfuls of rice (which was the only edible thing in there). Awful. Wish I could post a picture of those gross scallops.

We had a california roll, a paradise roll, crab rangoons, pad thai and fried rice. Everything was so delicious! It's a little expensive but totally worth it!! Next time we go we're definitely going to try the all you can eat sushi menu!!!!

The sushi was delicious but very pricey for what the place is. Overall I would definitely recommend coming here though . Best sushi that I've had in the area. Even though it's pricey I'll definitely be back.

  • Nancy R.

The sushi was great. Had the Sexy Girl and the Let it Snow. The pure white tuna on the latter was phenomenal. Everyone at our table ordered something different, including hibachi, and loved it. Atmosphere was also great, not what you would expect from a little hole in the wall in the middle of a strip mall. Service was good, but not great. Server was very attentive, but I do have one recommendation. Servers were too quick to pick up plates. We weren't done chewing and they were already clearing the plate. We were brought the check before being asked if we wanted dessert - which we did. Felt rushed. But... The sushi offset all of it. Will certainly be going back. But let us spend our money, relax and enjoy, please don't rush me.

Love this spot. Busy but never crazy. Great staff, attentive. Great portions. And awesome drinks. Best spot around for sushi or hibachi.

Had hibachi chicken and it was very good. The portions are quite large so plan on being stuffed when done. Would come again if in the area.

Delicious sushi. Wonderful lunch sushi special, 2 rolls and a miso soup or house salad for only $9!

I've been a loyal customer to these guys for months, always tipping generously and recommending their service to others. I have had much respect for them, however I recently ordered a VERY large order from them, over $100, and received very "fishy" sushi that did not taste as good as it usually does. I proceeded to eat it, along with many of my associates, only for all of us to become extremely sick and end up throwing away most of it. When I called to ask for only a partial refund, considering I payed alot of money for BAD sushi, the manager was rude and told me to check with my doctor to ensure I was sick from the sushi, and said nothing will be done because I can't prove the sushi was bad. I have no reason to lie or cause uneeded issues and was treated so poorly. You would think after months of big tips and constant service, they would cooperate with a dissatisfied customer. I have always treated them well, but yet the ignorant manager did nothing to show appreciation for their customers. I don't care if you "bought the sushi the same day." The sushi was fishy, and clearly of bad quality and made many people very sick. They gave me the run-around and many excuses. They clearly don't care about serving their customers well, taking my money that went towards sushi thrown in the trash. Do not order from them, as they will not take responsibility for bad service or bad quality.

We went for dinner last night with a group of 6. The waiter was great and the food was excellent! He was super attentive and friendly. We will definitely be back!!

I am a fan of the sushi here. The Maki is light on rice and quite fresh. We sit at the sushi bar and are treated well by the chefs there. They have a good variety including veggie rolls, tempura rolls and special sushi combo plates. For a sushi place in the suburbs this is way above average.

Very good experience. Angel Roll was a great taste & texture. Shrimp Tempura was crispy and tasty (they skimped a bit on the dipping sauce). The sashimi was flavorful and good-sized pieces. The environment and music was laid back & relaxing. There was only 1 server, but he handled the place very smoothly & timely.

My wife and I have been coming to Kyoto Steak House for almost two years now. We have made our way up and down the menu and we're very pleased with all the dishes that we have discovered. Lately, I've been ordering the same item....like for the past month, but I can't help it! All of their dishes, in our experience, have been consistent in quality and delicious to say the least. My wife absolutely loves the Tuna Dumpling, and I'm really enjoying their Sushi Entrees. (Yes I've had them all) At this point, after all our positive experiences here, this is more than just our weekly restaurant date. We've come to know many of the people working here, and it feels like we're visiting old friends!

Everything was pretty tasty. The chicken pad Thai could have been spicier but it was still better than most I've had. The crab rangoons were also particularly delicious.

This place is awesome! The portions are great and the food is phenomenal. They go out of their way to make sure the customer has a great experience. You have to try the crab rangoon, it's amazing, as is the hibachi selection and sushi. Boyfriend and I come here all the time and always leave happy.

Hi Chris (owner), Thank you for your email, which shows great fortitude and poise for your business. I understand the difference between an unagi and a sea urchin. If I can, I would like to tell you what happen. I visited a friend in mansfield and we ordered take out. I was next to my home girl when she ordered our meal, so I can validate that we ordered the right thing. Once we got home and reviewed our order, I notice that we got the sea urchin insisted of the unagi. so we called your restaurant to let them know that we got the wrong item. Don't know how the argument was escalated, but your restaurant was very assertive/aggressive in telling us that we got the right thing. So base on that conversation exchanged between your staff and us, I wrote my review the way I did. Please, you don't have to give me any complimentary service. Because you've reached out to your consumer and try to resolve an issue, I will update my review to a neutral status and randomly stop by your restaurant again. Afterwards, I'll re-rate your restaurant with an update or new review. Thank you again for reaching out. Kind regards, Edwin L.

What a HUGE surprise this place was. I was fully expecting to be underwhelmed because it was yet another sushi restaurant opening up in Southeast Mass and it was listed on Restaurant.com which can be hit or miss. We entered a hip, trendy restaurant that was fairly busy for early on a Tuesday night which was a bit surprising. The prices were reasonable and they even have a hibachi menu(I guess it is a steak house, right). My father and I split the $47 sushi and sashimi combo for two and it was phenomenal. Sure, I'm a sushi snob but I know when sashimi is fresh and on point and this stuff was fantastic. The presentation was also pretty impressive for a place that barely sticks out in a crummy strip mall. The owner came over and talked to us about our experience and let us know a bit about the staff which was a nice touch. However, I have to take off one star for the sheer lack of creativity on the sushi platter we got. The 3 rolls they gave were tuna, california roll, and spicy tuna and they didn't allow us to change that. Maybe if they do a bit better they will break out of the box and change it up a bit. I'm not holding my breath though. Again, huge surprise!

I love this place. Great sushi at good prices. The plates are designed with cute pictures made out of sauces.

The girlfriend and I went here last night and we were very pleased with the experience. I ordered the sushi dinner and she ordered the hibachi chicken. My meal included miso soup and then a plate with 9 pieces of sushi and a tuna roll. I'm not a connoisseur of sushi, but I can say it was well-prepared and fresh. The girlfriends meal also included soup (she got miso rather than mushroom as the menu said) and her main dish had a large portion of chicken, 2 pieces of shrimp, a mound of rice and a decent portion of mixed vegetables. I ate the shrimp and tried the chicken, and both were juicy and flavorful. The service was excellent. They seated us promptly, took orders quickly and the food was out in a short time. My girlfriend wasn't able to finish her meal and we asked for a box. I mentioned that those leftovers would be my lunch tomorrow and our waitress said she'd give us some extra rice. When she came back, she also included a small cup of mushroom soup. I don't know if it was because I mentioned that it'd be my lunch, or if this is common practice for Kyoto... either way, little things like that make customers happy. If I could give them 4.5 stars, I definitely would.

So happy I went there again, this time with my baby sis who has been trying to convince me to move closer to her. Went here on a quiet Wed night and the atmosphere was wonderful. I have yet to experience the blaring music like other reviewers had. Appetizer - Tuna tataki & beef tataki delicious! Perfectly seared. My dinner - Miso salmon OMG delicious! YUM! My sister - Halibut dinner (not sure what it was called exactly) but it was topped with some crunchy stuff that was so good! Both me and her boyfriend were trying to steal some. My sister's boyfriend - He had some type of beef dish, I dislike beef so I will keep that out of my review. After dinner we sat around and chatted till late, the owner came over and recognized me from a previous visit. He was very polite and friendly, being kind of tipsy and silly with my baby sister around we demanded he take shots with us. He said he will get us a round, he brought to our table 4 blue label tequila (good stuff!) and we brought it over to our sushi chef and had a toast. The owner then ran off so it was time for us to harass the sushi chef who was cleaning up. We demanded sushi! Sushi chef looked at me and said "ok for you" he made me the prettiest plate of sushi I have ever seen..and get this FREE! hehe. Will definitely be back again.

Maybe I was a little too hungry, but I don't think I'm wrong when I say Kyoto is a great Japanese restaurant with the feel of Boston, but the prices of a suburban restaurant. The interior is beautiful! Great lighting and color schemes. It was so hot out so we were looking for sushi as a cool dinner. The place was virtually empty because it was a Thursday night at 9pm. The mixed drinks are only 5.95! what a steal. I had a Lychee/Vodka Martini - delicious and intoxicating. I then proceeded to enjoy a tuna maki, salmon and avocado roll, and a Spider Man Roll - that the chef decorated with a spider web around the roll. so delicious!! The staff was all really nice, and we were there so late we watched them all sit down and eat dinner by the sushi counter, it was cute. Great meal, i will definitely be back!

Once again we get burned by over enthusiastic Yelpers, going out of our way to go somewhere based only on reviews here. My Hibachi Chicken was just OK. The chicken was a little chewy. Similar chicken is much better ( I kid you not ) at Sarku in the mall Food Court. Portions were small. The rice was dull. The veggies were uninspired. The other two in the party got dishes with Filet Mignon in them. Both are convinced that it was not filet mignon, which is meant to refer to a specific portion of the beast. It was good beef, but not filet mignon. Portions were small again. It was all chopped up, which is a crime to do to actual filet mignon. The big burn was the member of the party who attempted to order the filet mignon dinner portion ( at lunch ) that came with asparagus, a vegatable he specifically referred to when ordering. Because of a language barrier, he got some other filet mignon dish, which cost more ( $22.95 !!!) and did not have a single stick of asparagus on it. I think the miso soup was the highlight of the experience, but I have had better. We do not eat sushi so can not comment upon that. The two dudes assembling it certainly looked busy. Burns like this make me wish Yelp had some sort of filter so I could realize that 4s and 5s from folks with a sort of Cambridge/Brookline outlook do not constitue 4s and 5s to us.

Kyoto came on the scene less than two years ago. Around that same time a couple of other Asian restaurants opened in the area making it even more challenging for a start up in a difficult economy. I typically visit Kyoto about once every three weeks. Average in size, but they put much thought in the decorating and it shows. Chris is the owner and he always looks focused; May is the hostess and she is always welcoming. They have had a total turnover from the original wait-staff, but all have been friendly and helpful. I tend to go during off hours (between usual lunch and dinner times) when it is quiet. Can't say how the crew reacts to a busy Saturday night. I like the fact that Kyoto is not the type of Japanese restaurant that has your meal prepared in front of you by a chef/comedian. I'm not there to be entertained. Sushi/Sashimi/Assorted Rolls dominate the menu, but my preference is the kitchen entrees. Start your meal with either Yum Yum Salad or Snow Crab Salad. Both are delicious! Main courses I love are the Roasted Chilean Sea Bass and the Grilled NY Strip Steak, where the meat is always tender and the sweet tamarind sauce adds so much wonderful flavor. For noodle fans I can recommend the Yaki Udon. I like mine with chicken. Everything looks so lovely when presented to you I don't know whether to eat it or take its picture. I end up eating it :)... All of my time spent at Kyoto has been enjoyable. The strip mall it sits at is a bit beat up, but don't be fooled, this is a well run restaurant. If you decide to visit them I hope your experience there is just as enjoyable.

Beautiful decor and fresh, tasty sushi. My boyfriend and I came here on a Saturday night and were seated promptly. Despite the fact that the restaurant was very busy, we had excellent service. We shared sushi rolls and had a few drinks. The sushi was delicious and I would particularly recommend the sexy girl roll. Was less impressed with the quality of the mixed drinks. Overall, we had a great experience (the place makes for a great date spot) and we will be coming back!

We stopped in here for lunch today, we were the only ones so we got a little scared but it was still early. It's not very big inside but it is very clean and decorated beautifully and they have a full bar. Everything we had was great. We ordered the snow crab salad, shrimp fried rice, hawaiian sushi roll and pad Thai (fabulous). The waitress was very nice. We had a great lunch, we will definitely be back!

I stopped in Kyoto for lunch the other day. The sushi was actually pretty decent for a suburb. I was going to go with 4 stars but I docked 1 for the blatant lie that is their menu. There was a king crab spring roll. I love king crab, I love spring rolls. What could go wrong? I'll tell you what, pressed pollack with crab flavoring masquerading as real crab. Dear Kyoto, do you really think people don't know the difference between imitation snow crab and king crab? This is Boston, we know seafood. Cut the crap and stop the false advertising.

Great Pan Asian meal last night. We are sushi novices so its tough to comment on these offerings, but can tell you that the Crab Rangoon, Patriot Roll, Pad Thai, Yaki Soba noodles and California rolls were devoured. Glasses of wine seemed on the small side, but the two saki martinis were excellent.

My friend got a coupon for this place when it first opened, so we decided to try. The atmosphere was quite impressive, we didn't know what to expect. We ordered various rolls and to our surprise, we got plate art (yes, we were the crazy people taking pictures). The rolls were excellent as well. We've been 3 more times since, but haven't seen the return of the "plate art" which was a little disappointing, but the food is still excellent. My favorite app is the yum-yum salad. My favorite sushi roll is the California tempura. I highly recommend! PS. Please bring back the plate art!

As soon as you enter the door, you'll notice the distinctive decor of this restaurant. Such could be expected in the Boston downtown area. The dimly lit ambiance and the modern zen appeal tries to create a feeling of privacy but yet the small restaurant is not sound treated. That even with the small number of people when we visited, the radio playing in the background and the conversations that were going on seemed a bit loud for me. I do apologize for those who liked this restaurant and gave it a good review. But in my opinion, this restaurant's major failure is that they are trying hard to be an upscale japanese restaurant and yet the food they serve are undoubtably chinese. This is just one of the many japanese restaurants around who try to pretend to be authentic japanese restaurants in price but in fact, the food they serve are just a slight better than what you can get from any chinese restaurants serving sushi and makimono for less price. You pay for the ambiance? Maybe. That's why I am giving it two stars for their attempt. For the food, I've definitely had better. So, overall, I feel two stars is enough. If there is another japanese restaurant in this area of Mansfield, MA, I'll need to check it out and see if it's any better than this. Other than that, I'd stay away from this even when I crave for (semi) japanese food.

I am in LOVE with this place!! I have visited several times and every time has been wonderful. The staff is so friendly, the place is beautiful, and the food is delicious! I am Japanese, and have extremely high expectations when it comes to sushi. The sushi is so fresh and tasty. They do a great job of creating their menus. The food off of their menu is tasty as well. I try to stop by whenever I have the chance. Do yourself a favor and try this place. You won't be disappointed!

We have a friend that referred us to Kyoto & we are forever grateful. Kyoto always has such a beautiful atmosphere and very attentive service. My fiance and I always sit at the bar (can't beat $2 beers with purchase) and get their sushi (California rolls start at only $4.75 & all the other rolls are fairly reasonably priced) Everything is sooo good! We love Kyoto.

I love this place, I have been here several times. The service is always great and the food is incredible! I always go for the sushi and the one thing I always look forward to is the art that comes with the plate of sushi. Sometimes it's paintings made from different sauces, sometimes a sculpture made from veggies. you can watch the sushi chef create the plate of food for you, and you can see him fixing a detail, backing up and scrutinizing it, fixing it again. Its very interesting to watch someone have that much attention to detail on something you are not even going to eat. the sushi is always perfect too, I eat a lot of sushi and this might be the best I have ever had. just talking about it makes me want to go there tonight! maybe I will :)

I went here again last night, but dined in instead of getting takeout. A friend got the yaki soba and ate the whole thing, so I guess it wasn't that bad. Other friend got the Phoenix roll, and I had a piece- very good. My udon soup was boring. I got it because I figured it would be, and I was right. I'd go here for sushi no problem, but other Japanese food probably not so much. Waiters were awkwardly over-attentive and didn't seem to want to let us chat for a while before we ordered. The menus were cool, so was the general ambiance of the place, but I feel like the the decor outdid the food (and the service.)

We went to Benny's down the street to get some house hold supply and drove by this restaurant. Any restaurant that has the word steakhouse will catch my eye. Anyways, we were starving so my wife and I gave it a try. When we first stepped in the restaurant, the place blew my mind. This is probably the nicest asian restaurant ever. We were seated at a booth and our waiter quickly took our orders. My wife had the empire beef short rib which is on their special menu and I had the steak hibachi dinner. Everything was delicious. My only complaint is the portion is too small. We also like the fact that the bartender gave out free samples of their drinks. For dessert, we tried the baked alaska, which is phenomenal. I would go here alone for this dessert. Overall, this place is awesome.
