I have to update my review following my trip back to Brewer's last night. I hadn't been there since February, but my friend and I decided to swing by to drink cheap beer and watch the first NFL game of the year. After a pitcher or two, we decided that we needed to order some food so we just went with the appetizer platter. It was miserable. The potato skins were chewy, the chicken was hard, the mozzerella sticks had an extra layer of crunch that I've never experienced before in my life. The boneless wings were salvagable. Instead of ordering something else, we just elected to pass on eating the rest of the night. I'm definitely going to second-guess coming here again. The $9 Coors Light pitchers are tough to match around here, but I think I'd elect to go to the nearby Dockside, which has much better food.

I have been here at least 30 times, i go to this location a lot but i also went to their Waltham Restaurant quite a bit when i was in College. initially this was only a place where i went for the cheap wings on Sunday nights, but one time the manager offered me a free desert and i have been trying different items on the menu since, never once was i disappointed. Only thing, at both locations the chairs which are more wooden benches than anything else are all EXTREMELY uncomfortable, but i guess it is part of the old "charm" which they try to maintain. Nonetheless forget the chairs, go get the food and be a fan.

If half-stars were an option, I would give JBT 3.5 because the drinks are strong, the place is big, and the food is not bad for a bar/tavern. But between a 3 and a 4, I have to drop a half star because there are lots of times when this place is just TOO packed to even move! I suppose this is great for the business, but bad for the rest of us who actually want to go there. I have been twice for drinks -- if you can grab a seat at/near the bar, you're golden. Good drinks, average service, expected prices. I also came once for dinner - food was just OK, not great, even by bar standards. If I was meeting someone for dinner I wouldn't say NO to JBT but I wouldn't choose it. There are some things that make this place fun -- they do trivia, have live DJ's, bands, etc. The place is big enough to have some entertaining events. I just find that when I want to go, I can't, which discourages me from making it a must-try for anyone else.

I've been here more than a dozen times because it's close to home. It's always relatively the same. Cold beer and edible food. Last night a gf and I ordered plain chicken wings because we didn't want the buffalo or honey buffalo (I'm spoiled by Buff's in Newton). They had absolutely no flavor to them. Granted I was hungry and it was 25 cent wing night but cmon JBT throw some spices on these puppies or something! Ok forgot to mention when we walked in and sat at the bar the 2 bartenders at our end of the bar were chit chatting away. NP I say for a minute or so plus we were sitting behind the beer taps so ok maybe they couldn't see us. But I recognize the other bartender way down the other end. I smile, wave and shrug my shoulders. He knows exactly what I mean. He walks down and tells them they have customers. I don't want to be That Person when it comes to being a demanding customer but my patience wears thin when it's laziness and not being busy. Still gave them almost a 30% tip for crappy initial service and boring tasteless chicken wings. Why you say? Cuz he was on point with getting us cold beers when we needed them. Sometimes you gotta pick your battles.

Are you ready for some football?! Any sport will do, for that matter. Here's the deal with my favorite spot. The menu is diverse and the beer selection is groovy. Chicken Pot Pie, Burgers and nightly specials keep your taste buds clamoring for the next option, but what has had me hook, line and sinker is the French Onion Soup! Come on in, have a seat in the Tavern with your own personal booth-side TV, or enjoy the dining room for a little less traffic. Either way, "The Tavern" is great!

John Brewer's is 5 minutes from my office. It has a parking lot and is an easy destination for having drinks with co-workers and friends. It's ok, the drinks are a little watered down the food is typical bar food. I have had nachos here a couple of times and only the chips on the top are whole, everything underneath is tiny pieces which is annoying. The chicken wings are an exception because they are SOOOO good. The service is always great, the hosts and servers are always fun and fast. While JB is not my first choice, it's not my last.

I stopped by John Brewer's Tavern with a friend to watch the Celtic's game. When I saw their menu I was impressed with all of the options. However, once we got our food I was less than impressed. I know that I should be more skeptical of restaurant onion soup (with the exception being high-end establishments). The soup was so salty it was practically inedible. I found the service to be extremely slow. The waitress was disinterested in serving our table in a timely manner (I'm not sure if this was because it was a busy Saturday night or what). With there being so many other bars, taverns, etc in greater Boston, it's doubtful I will be back.

Joined some friends there on a Sunday night to abuse this place's twenty cent wings special and after all five of us proceeded to be seated in a far corner of the place, we placed our orders. While there's plenty of seating available along with televisions and the place is clean, I was not a fan of the very tacky, chain-like atmosphere. Not that I hate all chains, but this one's decor wasn't all that great. Within a few minutes, our baskets of wings arrived and they were ok but far from great. The sauce was spread unevenly and they tasted way too salty. I asked for hot and couldn't feel any heat. The blue cheese serving was generous but not necessary since I had no heat to keep in check. The carrots and celery were ok. While they didn't skimp on the wings, I was expecting a bit better, even for twenty cents and I've had better wings elsewhere. My beer arrived but wasn't very cold and flat - my waitress tried to argued with me about it but finally gave in and replaced it. There's far better places for wings in my opinions and this place is only good if you don't care about high quality food and want to grab a quick bite to eat and a cheap beer. They have a decent selection of brews including Harpoon IPA, various Sam Adams beers and even Rapscallion and Blue Moon. Along with it, they constantly have specials on their food, which is why I'm giving them a three star rating. It's a casual place for the average joe.

As someone else stated, I often wish half stars were available to us because I feel badly putting JB's at 3 stars but it still isn't 4 star quality overall. We were last there on a Monday night, the .25 wing special suckered us in along with the Celtics playoff game. It was PACKED for a Monday and it wasn't even warm enough to go outside on the patio, kudos to them for being able to pull in a good sized crowd when a meaningful game is on. I actually wanted a booth with the TV's but there just weren't any available so we ended up in one of the high bar tables with stools smack dab in front of a 50" LCD and the Celtics game (with sound!) was pumped throughout the bar area. We're not frequent bar/pub dwellers because my g/f doesn't drink and I may only end up with two beers at the most. So like I mentioned before, the wings were the draw. I don't know if it's a reflection on the restaurant or it's clientele but its' really sad that you need a lawyer to go through the list of rules to be "entitled" to the wing special. It rubs me the wrong way, like someone is going to take advantage of them and ONLY order wings and nothing else. I laughed at the list when I saw how long it was so I don't remember exactly what it entailed, but it was something like "no your kids can't partake, you must buy a drink, oh and btw, we charge for soda refills on wing night, you can only get 10 or 20 at a time and the veggies will cost you extra as well". BFD, it's silly and offputting to an educated consumer that these rules need to be in effect. This coming from someone who could never understand how a place made money off of ten cent wings in college. Of course I"ll buy something else but don't guilt or insult me into it. Our server was really great, checking up the right amount of times throughout and had a pleasant demeanor. He never gave us any crap about the wings even though last time I was pissed they wouldn't let the two of us split 10 at a time, we actually protested going back for awhile. So service was awesome, the stipulations on food specials are stupid and the atmosphere is pleasant and had a lot of energy when it was packed......that to me leaves them at 3.5 stars but just not 4 yet. Honestly, if they took away the dumb rules, they'd probably have gotten an extra boost.

Two years ago, long before joining Yelp, I would have given John Brewer's one star. At that time, I remember having rude/inconsistent service. One waiter was great, a week later, we have a DBag. Obviously, one waiter was hard working than others. However, communication amongst the waitstaff clearly wasn' t there. After nearly two years, I decided to give it another chance. Okay, it's not as bad as it used to be. Two and half stars today; not quite three. Some great features is that it has its own parking lot. Hostess is friendly, they have a great patio for outdoor seating. The menu should be revamped. It's a typical pub/bar menu. Sandwiches, burgers and an eh-ok steak. It peeves me to know that each condiment you'd like on your sandwich/burger costs $.75 each. A naked hamburger costs $10? I hate restaurants that will nickle and dime. It's a horrible concept! Also, with 25-cent wing nights: "you can't share wings" and "you can only eat at the bar". I guess you're S-O-L when the bar is full. You can't go into the dining room and still get the 25-cent wing deal in their own restaurant. If this was on Food Network's Restaurant Impossible, the British guy will have the manager's head on a plate! (No pun intended.) Seriously, I'll say it again: This is a horrible concept and should be stripped immediately. Let the customer "have it their way" and make it a more pleasurable and palatable dining experience. This will only attract more attention and I wouldn't be forced to mention this on Yelp. I'm no barfly. But, if you're here just for the buzz, it doesn't seem so bad. If you want food, then there are too many restrictions and it just creates an unpleasant atmosphere. Give it up, John Brewer! You can be so much better than this.

Excuse me, waiter? Another round of Jack-n-Pickle Juice please! ---- What?! First place I've ever been to where there's a pickle juice shot available on the menu (and next time, I WILL try it!). While I was mezmorized by pickle juice, I didn't have the opportunity to sample their FOOD menu. Though my friends did - and the guys really seemed to love their Tavern Platter: chicken fingers, pub skins, mottz sticks, boneless buffalo wings with dipping sauce (not bad for 11$ - but really doesn't look like it could fill more than 2 or 3 beer-drinking males). It smelled pub-heavenly *heart* Pretty good space for a big group to hang out and catch up with one another; loads of high-tops and loads of room at the bar. The bartender is fast, the price was good, and grub is available (why not smample some fried pickles with your Jack-n-Pickle Juice?). Plus...they ring a bell when a good tip comes in (...bonus points *ding*).

Great local tavern! My husband and I moved to Medford years ago and were thrilled to discover John Brewer's. It is a perfect combination of sports bar, tavern, and local restaurant. We always receive friendly service while we are there, and are surrounded by patrons laughing and sharing experiences with friends. If you go, you must try the nachos. By far, the best I have ever had. They give you a huge portion of perfectly salted chips, with cheese that has been wonderfully baked on the chips, spicy jalapenos, and fresh salsa. I can't say enough about this restaurant.

I had a haddock sandwich with sweet potato fries and could not believe the good quality of the food! At John Brewers, there is a television at every booth. You read that right. So if you are, for instance, one of those people who simply cannot miss an inning of Red Sox baseball, but yet your very inconsiderate friends (must be Yankees fans or something) ask you to hang out on a night where there's a Sox game, you totally have a compromise, built right in. And who says you're hard to get along with? At John Brewers, there is a 6-1 ratio of visibly drunk people to sober people. Luckily, of the drunk people, 80% of them are happy drunks and the others have just been there for five hours and have a glaze to them similar to a Krispy Kreme. Too much math? Did the mere mention of a Krispy Kreme send your diet into failure mode? I know a place where you can drink your worries away. At John Brewers, they put cornbread on the table and will tell you you're drinking O'Douls if that will make you feel better. They'll even put your "O'Douls" in a frosty mug with blueberries on the bottom if you ask sweetly enough. And it'll taste like real beer! At John Brewers, you clearly have decided to pick the most happening establishment in its surrounding strip mall. Good for you: you chose the bar and grill over the gym, Dunkin Donuts, Weight Watchers, another donut shop, and the day care center, plus you have a really good game of "Mismatched in Malden" to play with your friends in the bar, if you so desire.

We stopped in here for a couple of drinks and an impromptu dinner after shopping for new glasses at the nearby optometrist's. In fact, most of the non-regulars who make it into this John Brewer's location can probably make a similar statement: "We stopped in here for (blank) after (blanking) at the nearby (blank). The bartender was uber-friendly, though, and chatted us up immediately, my broken ankle of course being the scintillating centerpiece of our conversation. They pour a good extra-large Whale's Tail, which is a big plus in my book. The spacious, medium-grain wood interior is full of flat-screen TVs, good for watching the game, and to distract you from the dismal view of the parking lot. We ordered the calamari, which was odd, in that it was a full-price app, but came with fried pepper rings that appeared to be mixed in to make the dish look more plentiful than it was. I did like the peppers, but I thought for 9 bucks, they should be giving us more squid. The shrimp scampi was okay, and the jambalaya with penne was good, if gooey and heavy. Friendly customer service makes this a place we'd return to if in the neighborhood, but the average to bland food and the grotty location = we will never drive to you on purpose.

I went with my attorney for happy hour. Sounds like an oxymoron: Attorney/Happy Hour. But, he told me about this place, drove me there and home. Now I hope he doesn't bill me for the hours. My boyfriend & friends and I are ones to always check out .25 cent wing places, as well as new bars to watch games at. and we thought this place would be great since its right near our home... but nope! for the .25 cent wings you get a list of "rules" in order to get the wings, like the wings are some sort of privledge or something, they are not a special privledge- you offer them and i pay for them. that should be it. we dont drink. and i dont even drink soda or anything so whenever i go out i just get water. well guess what? you cant get water and wings. you have to get a drink! wtf?! i am a small girl, i eat about 5 wings and am stuffed. but they have a minimum of 10!! you can only order 10 or 20 wings which is ridiculous. so i thought it would be nice if my friend who ordered a drink got the wings and we split it, but nope, cant do that either. wtf?! want celery with your wings? its gonna cost you .75 cents! what place does that?!?! some way or another i ended up with wings that were cold and absolutely flavorless. at the end of the night we had to argue a bunch of things on our bill because we got double charged. when leaving john brewers, my boyfriend said "i am never coming back here" and everyone agreed. i only give them 2 stars because at the end when we were arguing our bill it got taken care of right away.

I only go to this place for work functions and I refuse to be convinced to go here or order from here again. I have eaten from here 4 times and here is what I think the problem is: they really want to offer the customer everything under the sun (menu is huge) therefore everything is below average. If you just focus on one type of food even if it's just a limited number of your classic bar/pub foods they would improve. They can't even master a damn wrap or buffulo sauce. I usually don't even remember what I get cause it's always forgettable but the Mac and cheese I had recently is what caused me to write this Yelp. It was cheeseless, more soggy chicken than pasta, and the weirdest choice of pasta for mac and cheese. The pasta choice allowed the limited amount of cheese that could of been on there to fall off.

Now that I've moved (with the bf) to the "Not Near Davis" side of Medford, bf and I went exploring in Malden to find a decent pub with some good grub and drafts (especially considering the relative dryness of Medford.) First off, this place is near to a union hall, so I'm first assuming that as a plus right there. But, it is in a shopping plaza near a Dollar Tree, so if you're looking for location, location, location, sorry. You're in the burbs. John Brewers offered good food at very decent prices. They had a good mix of your average beer offerings as well as some great microbrew and specialty options, and a full cocktail menu. The atmosphere was very laid back. It had a pub/local tavern type feel with wood booths, high-top tables, dark color scheme accented with brass, and lots of TVs playing sports, including one at each booth with its own remote. This made the bf especially happy since we found a re-run hockey game in August. It's the only sport he likes. The server was friendly and offered drink suggestions (even brought us a taste of a couple of the specialty beer offerings), but struck a good balance and left us to enjoy each other's company for the duration of our meal. Our tab consisted of 2 beers (one normal size, and one HUGE), a turkey club, honey buffalo chicken tenders and a side salad, and came out to about $33. It was under $40 even with our generous tip. All in all, this is a very unassuming place. Come as you are and get good food, good drink, and great service. Sounds simple, but compared to how many places that try to accomplish that and fail (*cough* anything owned by the Joshua Tree group), it's worth voting with your dollar. Cheers.

However, I was initially impressed with Cassandra's enthusiasm, communication skills and professional demeanor when I sat on table HT17 as it read on my receipt. As a Service Manager myself, I always look for great customer service everywhere I go and tonight, while the night was getting busy for her, Cassandra demonstrated outstanding customer service skills with a smile not only to me but also to multiple tables that she served! The food is okay...pretty standard pub food, nothing out of this world. I've eaten here a couple of times and I've never had meal where I said to myself, "that was the best thing that I've ever eaten and I can't wait to go back". Also, don't ever come here if you want to play trivia on Wednesday nights. I've tried to play several times and the host is always late (they advertise that it starts at 8:00pm but it doesn't get started until 8:30-8:45pm). When we asked the waitress about it, she said that he was lost and couldn't find the restaurant...really, every week? Perhaps he should invest in a GPS. This place is okay for a low key, local bar.

We've been here on several occasions and it never disappointed. They have a nice selection of beer on draft. The wait staff is always very friendly and service is fast. The burgers here are great - it's huge, juicy, and cooked exactly how you like it. It's $10 for a burger and beer, how can you go wrong with that?! The ambiance is nice and rowdy. They also have a dining area for those that don't like the noise. I'm not sure if they offer table reservations, but it wouldn't be a bad idea on a weekend because the noisier area is always packed. Well I got the surf and turf which I do not recommend.The steak tips were excellent but as far as the stuffed shrimp goes the seafood stuffing smelled pretty bad and tasted worse.It smelled like a combo of cat food and tuna,horrible.It came with garlic mashed potatoes which were good and summer squash /zucchini/carrot mix that were not cooked long enough.I'd go back for steak tips and a beer but will not ever get seafood from there again.

I had a great experience at John Brewer's Tavern. My friend and I swung in on a Friday night to get some drinks we had the perfect amount of service and everything we ordered was good. The beers were HUGE and they had an extensive list of draft choices. The waitress gave me a few suggests for appetizers and I took her advice; honey chipotle boneless wings. I definitely recommend trying them! Sounds so simple, and it was, but what made me really enjoy my experience and the fingers were the fact that I got fresh celery and carrots with them. Everywhere else either gives you tiny/wimpy/limp stix or, more commonly, no stix at all. The music was a flashback to mid 90's (which is good or bad, depending on the mood) and all the tvs had the sox game on so two thumbs up y'all.

I have dined here 3 times and after my last experience I decided to write a review for anyone willing to try to place and hopefully to expand the pallets of people who frequent it. First of all I will talk about the beer selection. Pathetic! How can you call yourself a Tavern and your most unique beer be Sam Adams? The beer selection looks like something a high school student drinking in the woods would have! I understand the staples of Bud and Coors but come on! Have at least twice as many beers than what you have. I am honestly surprised they don't have Natural Ice, and if they did I wouldn't be shocked. The saddest thing about about this beer review is that I am not even a beer snob but when I go to a tavern I would like to try something different. Don't get me wrong, I actually enjoy bud light but if you want a tavern I would say go to Davis Sq or for a real good selection the Sunset Grill will blow your mind if you think they have a decent selection at John Brewers. The food was salty, bland, uninspired and poorly cooked. I ordered the beef stew which was not available and then the meatloaf. There were large chunks of peppers in it, covered in a canned mushroom gravy and unseasoned meat. It literally was ground beef and pepper chunks. My wife ordered the burger which didn't seem anything that you couldn't make at home. I felt bad for her considering she used to live next to R.F. O'Sulivans in Somerville which have real burgers. The service and people. The hostess seemed nervous because her manager or boss was next to her and spoke to us as if we were in a 5 star restaurant. It was actually kind of comical how stiff and unnatural she was. The waitress was friendly and forgot our drinks but we were charged them on the bill (which we had to clear up). The crowd were locals and nothing wrong with that. I am a Medford kid. I just felt inspired to write this review after reading the other reviews talking of this place so highly. I understand driving only 5 min to meet up with friends but I'm telling you drive another 5 into Cambridge or Somerville and your experience would be much better. Overall I felt from having experience in the food business previously that the owner of John Brewers just is in it for the money. My friends who are chefs would be embarrassed to serve a burger and meatloaf like the ones they did. A person who wants a tavern should have a passion for the brew and have a great variety of beers, not just ones that you see commercials on TV for. The overall all cheap food and bad food and yet good reviews tells me this guy or girl is happy with his profit. I am disappointed that a place this close to me failed to meet my expectations. If you want a John Brewers experience I would say go to the store and get a hungry man microwavable dinner and a can of Coors light. Like I said earlier, if John Brewers opened 5 min west in Somerville or Cambridge they wouldn't stand a chance against the pubs there with great food and a great beer selection.

The boy and I were looking for something new and we remembered this was here. I was a little skeptical, remembering the drunken ruckus that used to occupy the space, but was really happy with what we found... Awesome restaurant! Good pub food, decent beers on tap and TVs everywhere. We sat on the bar side, with the high top tables, but the other side looked nice and the booths there had TVs. It was pretty busy when we arrived, but got packed while we were there. It seems we just missed the dinner rush, arriving about 5:30. Service was pleasant and although the food did take a bit longer than expected, it was hot and fresh. My burger was actually cooked medium rare! That was a treat. Dessert, the brownie, was eh, but I'll let it slide. Overall, very satisfied with the food and will definitely be back.

John Brewer's Tavern is a good local lunch or simple dinner place. if you want to catch a game or have a casual dinner with friends it's one of the only spots in the area. The menu won't blow you away with creative dishes but it's full of pub food at good prices. Dishes are well executed for what they are. The boneless wings are always moist and $0.10 wings on Sundays are really good. Chicken pot pie, burgers/fries, and hot turkey sandwich are all good choices. Service at the bar is always friendly and accommodating.

The veggie burger is perfect, I've ordered it every time we've gone and crave it from time to time! And their nachos are good, but the salsa is lacking. But what makes John Brewers stand out is location. Yes, John Brewers is just like your average pub, but it's in Malden. And there's not much else going around in this area where you can go and watch a game and get a good drink and eat some good food on the cheap. So, thank you John Brewers. Plus, they've got the best waiter in the world.

This is a fun place to go. They have a lot of options for food and drinks and little TVs in the booths along the bar. They also have a dinning area if you want to get out of the tavern area. The food is not great but its good, and the portion sizes are very good. The drinks vary in strength, but overall its a fun place to go meet up with some friends. They always have games on and music at night. It's loud but not too loud, you can def have a conversation without yelling but don't have to worry about other people hearing you either. Parking is good and there is an outdoor area in the summer time which is nice.

Things you must know to aide in judgment of this review: 1. John Brewer's was NOT my choice. A friend and I went out for a quick bite before a Friday night out. 2. We sat on the "Tavern" side; again not my choice. 3. According to the aforementioned friend, John Brewer's has good veggie-burgers (a fact which I can neither confirm nor deny). 4. I am basing this off of my first and only trip to JB's. With that being said... This place is your typical low cost chain restaurant trying to make it "big". The menu was hackneyed, the food (I got chicken fingers (very banal, I know)) wasn't particularly imaginative, the place was insanely loud, and the crowd was a very typical given the location and nature of the establishment. On the positive side: our waitress was very pleasant, JB's looks as if it's a great low-key place to watch a Sox game (at the bar), the food was speedy to get to the table, and the price was to be expected for this variety of institution. Also, I know we had one at our table, but I believe each table has their own TV w/ remote to flip through different games and whatnot. I was pretty excited about that. Normally, I would do a 2 star review given my experience, however I was told the veggie-burger and sweet potato fries make up for a lot of JB's shortcomings (which prompted the 3rd star).

Went here last night with some friends. Nice little spot. Great food and good atmosphere. I had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and vegetables. It's hard to find a good meatloaf if you ask me. I almost judge a restaurant on how good the meatloaf is which in this case was really good. I washed it down with a cold Blue Moon which was also great. Prices are decent but not cheap. I would definitely go back.

I lived in Waltham for a short period and the worst part about moving back to the north shore was going to be living without Brewers. Thankfully, they opened this location shortly after I moved. It's a great local bar with patio seating. It is certainly not your typical Rt.1 restaurant and for that, I'm grateful. Their patio seating is great in the summer, and it's hard to believe you are on busy Highland Ave. when you're out there enjoying a beer and some nachos. Speaking of, their buffalo chicken nachos? Amazing! They are the main reason I love this place so. I haven't had much of their food since I typically devour the whole plate of nachos as a meal, so I can't speak much to the rest of the menu. Their beer selection is also pretty decent and updates frequently. At times, it seems to be an older crowd unlike the Waltham location. However, it still delivers and is a nice change of pace from Boston and Salem.

Moved to the Medford line about a year ago, and there were zero places to hang out, relax, and watch a game. Then came John Brewers. No complaints about it - I've been here at least 10-12 times in the last year and have enjoyed myself each time. Plenty of TVs and we always seem to get a seat at the bar. The outdoor patio with a view of scenic Middlesex Ave was a great addition, and even has a bar with a tv at it. Lots of locals hang out here, and the age group is older, so it's laid back and relaxed in spite of how crowded it can get. I like the chili in the winter, the buffalo chicken wrap, the sweet potato fries, and recently they added a sausage + linguini dish to their summer menu which I thought was the best thing I've eaten there (it was delicious). it's all pub food though so don't expect too much. as for the guy who complained about the calamari having hot peppers in it - it's called "Rhode Island Style Calamari" - that's exactly what that entails (adding hot peppers to the calamari dish). Don't go here if you're looking for a hip crowd, night life type activity or fancy dining. Do go here if you're looking to hang out with some friends, have some laughs, and take in a low key night.

The food here was absolutely terrible. It tasted the same as if you went to a terrible chain restaurant. The nachos were taste-less, the burger was boring, and the Watch City Salad which sounded SO promising was just so-so. Many places in the same area have much better food at the same price. I will definitely not eat here again. I must say, though, that the service was wonderful and the waiter was superb. Too bad he couldn't make up for the bland food. However, I will definitely be back here to drink. The drink prices are not the cheapest around, but I have hung out there on more than one occasion and the crowd is a good, local one and you are guaranteed to know some of the faces. The bartenders were really friendly and quick. This place is ideal when you have nothing to do on a Thursday night.

A good friend of mine and I went here for lunch yesterday and we loved it. It's a tavern, so expect lots of wood, colonial decor, lots of beer on tap, and chicken wing eating contests. Like it or not this place is pretty good. I got a buffalo chicken wrap (keeping it simple) and the chicken was grilled, not fried, which I was excited about. There are a lot of healthy options of the menu like a veggie burger and a 9-grain roll and turkey tips with steamed veggies to just name a few. The place is pretty big by the way, with tons of televisions. Each booth had it's own TV so if your not interested in the game you can turn on something more entertaining, like the Golden Girls. Don't get me wrong here, I love the Golden Girls, but let's face it: If you are at the Tavern you are there for the game. Great food, good prices, friendly people. Check it out it's great!

I will say up front that I had 2 Pumpkinhead Ale's with a shot of Stoli vanilla in them and cinnamon and sugar on the glass, their Pumpkin Pie beer. So, that may have influenced things a bit. It was the first time I've ever tried that, and it was sooo good. Location is weird, in a plaza with Papa John's pizza, a Dollar Tree store and across from a Wendy's. I usually drive by this plaza on my way to other places. There is outdoor seating, but I'm not sure I would enjoy it, given the area. Stopped in Sunday of Labor Day weekend for a quick meal. The place was quiet, so we sat on the Pub side. I like the decor, all dark polished wood. I can imagine, with TVs at every table, that this place is crazy during baseball/football games and really loud. But the inside is a nice distraction from the location. We started off with spinach and artichoke dip, as well as boneless buffalo wings. We were starving, but we could have stopped with these 2 items, because they were both pretty good size and tasty. I ordered Fish and Chips (the standard by which I judge all pub-type places) and husband had the Bacon Bleu Burger. My fish was really crispy, which I liked. If the fries had been steak fries, I would have been in heaven, but regular fries were still good. Our waiter was fine with wrapping up the rest of the spinach dip to go, so that was good. I know some places give you crap about taking the apps home. The only thing I found confusing was the roll of paper towels on our table. I kept putting them on the edge of the table so our server would take them away, but he never did. I think they were running a special on wings that night, so that was probably reason for them being there, but I didn't see them on any other table. We also had 3 different servers during the evening, which was strange since it didn't start to get busy until towards the end of our meal. Another guy came over at the end of our meal, probably the manager, to ask how everything was. I appreciate that kind of service. I should have asked him about the paper towels, but I was too busy raving about my beer! This is pretty close to home, and it was good enough that I will definitely go back. And I have been dreaming about that Pumpkin Pie beer!

The food is about as good, if not better, than that of a 99's restaurant. Bread bowl clam chowder is good as well as the honey buffalo wings. Don't expect to be floored by the food, but it does do the job. As for the beer variety, they have a very good assortment of beer on tap, and I was able to try several of them with one of their beer flights (4 beer samples, about 5 oz each, for $5.95) Almost all of the beers (IPA's, Christmas Warmer, etc.) was delicious and not too expensive. They offer their beers in pints or blockbuster mugs of 25.5 oz. Not bad at all.

For those who complain about the location in a shopping plaza I respectfully point out that parking is never a problem like Davis Sq. for instance. The food for the most part is good and it does tend to get loud on the weekends. I am a once a month visitor on average an get exactly what I expect every time. This is a great neighborhood place to go to. The staff is always friendly, though not always the best. I had a couple bad waitresses but then again, I never saw them again, so they must have been fired, other than that, always great service. The food and beer selection is enjoyable and is a decent list if you enjoy average beers, but if you are going for specific Craft beers, you may not find them here. Best nights are Mondays and Sundays for the wings nights. The wings are delicious and good size. I took off one star because they changed up their wings policy. You can only have the wings when sitting in the tavern and they went from 20c to 25c. There are three flavors, regular, honey buffalo, and buffalo, all delicious. There are plenty of tvs to check out the games and each booth in the tavern has its own tv and remote, though you only get a few channels, usually only sports. All in all, a great place with a good atmosphere and fair prices. Now I feel like having wings.

I want to like John Brewer's Tavern. I really do. There's a scarcity of good pubs in Medford, and John Brewer's is right over the border. It's new, and clean, and has lots of lcd tv's. It has lcd tvs in the bar booths, where you can choose the channel your booth wants to watch. Friendly staff, and a bar, with beers on tap. A pretty varied menu. Sounds great!!! But whatever is going on in the kitchen, something's broken. First time I went I was asked how I wanted my prime rib cooked. I said rare, and underscored that I wanted it rare. When it came out, mine was definitely not rare. It wasn't medium rare, it wasn't even medium. It was medium well, like my friend's. I asked the waitress to take it back (which I hate doing because I hate wasting steak but it was two degrees away from what I asked for) and the manager came back with my plate. Bad sign. He said that it was dark in my booth and that it wasn't really done that much, which I wasn't buying. I wasn't going to send something back if it was anywhere close to being rare. Then he said that the chef said he couldn't cook it rare, that it would end up being cold. Now I understand that restaurants will not want to cook items rare because of liability or whatever, but I can't believe a chef will say he can't cook it rare - that it's not possible. I'm stunned. And you know if you don't want to cook it rare, that's fine. Just tell me and I'll order something else. It'll save you time, me time, and save the piece of steak. But the food I had it replaced with was tasty and I was definitely willing to go back again, just not order steak this time. Then last night I went and ordered a reuben, with some A1 on the side. Some other tables were seated. Those tables started receiving their food. When the table next to us had received several rounds of food I asked the waitress where I our food was. It had been well over an hour, and other people were getting food in front of us. She said that appetizers take less time (okay, but I ordered a frigging sandwich) and there was some kind of confusion in the kitchen. Plus they saw on the order "A1 on side" and therefore got confused. After a further wait, we finally got our food (by this time my date was starving as well). The food was good, although the reuben was a lot smaller than I was expecting. Now, I'm going to go again. The food is good, the waitstaff friendly. They have beer. It's conveniently close. Parking is easy. They have beer. I'll be really bummed if the chef stupiditates all over my food again.

This is only the second time in ten years that I've had food that was inedible. Maybe if you drink heavily you'll enjoy John Brewer's but don't go for the food. A shot in the arm for the area as it's sorely needed. I LIKE this place...I don't LOVE it, but what it does it right. Spacious and comfortable and a TV on every table, great for watching sports. Might spend more winter nights here but I won't avoid during the summer at all. The meatloaf, fish and chips, chicken pot pie and for sandwiches try the French Dip (hold the onions) and the Turkey Club Wrap. A good staff, and friendly clientele. This is the BEST place in Malden! The food is great...all american, pub grub and american classics and an AWESOME bar. The bar staff are great. The food is soooo good. The Honey Buffalo Wings are my favorite and my friends RAVE about the nachos. They have a great selection of beers both on tap and bottled. They have lots of different burgers, meatloaf, and chicken pot pie. I most recently went here after work on a Friday and the place was absolutely bumpin'. Packed with lots of different types of people, the bar was so busy you'd think we had happy hour in Massachusetts. The bar is huge with lots of seats and the booths in the bar area have their own mini-flat screen tvs!!!! This place is going to be crazy when the Sox are playing! I highly recommend this place!

I rarely post reviews; I only bother when a restaurant is either exceptionally good or exceptionally bad. Unfortunately John Brewers falls in the second category. Sliders were terrible. Worse than McDonalds quality meat. None of us could eat them. Steak was average. Spring vegetables were a watered down, undercooked, bland mess. Mashed potatoes were in desperate need of seasoning... Overall, we were all extremely dissatisfied and left hungry.

After hearing alot of great things about John Brewers in Malden, my husband and I decided to check it out. I have to say, the staff was so attentive and delightful. I had the yankee pot roast which took me back to my childhood when my mother would make it. (Delicious). The hubby had the steak tip dinner that was to die for. The manager brought us our dinner and welcomed us along with the general manager. This was a great experience and we will definitely be going back. Also the place was very busy, which only goes to show they are doing something right..

So me and my fiance decided to come and check out this place through a add on Facebook. Upon arrival the staff and servers were really friendly. First we started off with a cucumber Martini which I must say was properly made and they were not stingy with alcohol. The fish Tacos and the jambalaya rice were very good ass well. My fiance ordered the lobster rolls which came with 2 and a side off fries and Cole slaw. I must say hers were better than mines. Our server was very nice and actually offered me a side cup with ice just incase I wanted my martini on the rocks which I actually ended up doing. So sorry I forgot her name but next time we will be asking for her again . At the end of the day we were both full and satisfied with our meals and definitely look forward to coming back another day.

JBT is my neighborhood go-to. Nice variety of cold beer on tap and the food is very good (some items are a little expensive for pub food, but they do offer a lot of weekday deals at the bar). The bartenders and servers have always been pleasant and attentive too! Gets packed during sporting events / most nights from what I have seen, but usually you can still find space in the bar area. I never have made it to the actual dining room.... In the summer, sit outside-- even though the view is nothing to write home about, they have a big/clean patio area with a lot of tables and another bar complete with a TV.

KNocking a few stars off the ole rating. Went on Monday night because we were in the area ( literally in the parking lot) with friends. I figured it would be super packed because USA was playing in the world cup, but we were able to be seated immediately. Husband was excited to see 25 cent wings and I was excited to see it was Kids eat free night - Which stated Mondays after 5pm, when an adult orders from Tavern specialties or Dinner salad selections, 2 kids eat free* then the dreaded asterisk Kids 12 and under, not valid with take out or any other coupons, promotions or discounts. Here is where I get unhappy folks... as others have mentioned they have this 25 cent wing deal with a list of rules... but I don't understand the logic. I ordered a dinner salad. My husband ordered wings. i ordered my kid a kids meal. YES, it says not valid with other promotions, but, had I gone in by myself / asked for maybe separate checks and ordered my salad and a kids meal(EVEN 2 kids meals) I would have paid about $15 for my salad. Instead we paid over $40 because my husband had drinks (and we paid $5 for wings and $5 for a kids meal.)Its only $5 but how does that even make sense? Needless to say... I won't bother going back. On a more food related note: the wings weren't good and my salad wasn't either.

We've been here probably 20 or so times over the past 8 months. Solid food choices, good portions, large beer list, and super staff. We've had the occasional complaint and it was also resolved immediately, sometimes comped (the real truth is my boyfriend is from Ukraine, and his English is sometimes spotty, so as they say, gets lost in the translation). In the summer (please, spare us any more winter!!) they have an outside patio. We'll go for a late lunch, and drink beer. Granted, the scenery of Highland Ave and Wendy's isn't that inspired, but beats the crap out of the view from my apartment. It' a tavern, so don't expect anything more than rock-solid American food, served by people who, from their demeanor and friendliness, get more than minimum wage. Either that, or the manager threatens them with torture at the start of each shift.

Went to John Brewers for a late dinner a few weeks ago after finding that most sit down places in the Malden/Medford area close around 10PM. Apparently they have specials throughout the week, and Wednesday's special is a $5 burger with fries. Score! Meal was fairly good, and I even had 1/2 a burger left over for lunch the next day. I also like how they have TVs at every table, that's a unique set up. Also, they have Stump Trivia on Wednesday nights, but sadly I showed up as it was ending. The place was pretty packed with trivia-lovers though.

I went here a couple weeks back when the World Series trophy was on display. It was a charity event so we figured we'd go see the trophy and grab a bite. We were expecting a wait but were told it would only be 20 minutes. There was a game on and no one was leaving so we wound up waiting an hour. If we had known that we would've just taken a picture with the trophy and gone somewhere else for dinner. But the wait really wasn't the issue because we knew it would be a busy night. What wasn't great....the FOOD. I had a burger and my husband got I think the roast beef dip. Both of us were pretty unimpressed. It was basically typical bar food lacking in flavor. This may be a great place to go to drink and watch a game, but I would not eat here again.

The best thing this place has going is the $10 burger and flight deal. You can get a good burger with fries and a flight of five 6oz pours for ten bucks. The tap list is usually pretty decent with plenty of stuff from Sam Adams, Long Trail and other New England breweries. I recommend John Brewer's for a good local place to watch the game. They have about a million TVs and are well staffed with attentive waiters that never let your glass go empty. They usually have the sound on for all the big games too. The crowd is usually pretty fun with not too many bro-dudes.

I like it. For a tavern, you get decent service, beer, and great food. Once or twice the food was just, well bad, and the manager promptly addressed the issue by giving us a second chance to try another item, and they were redeemed. People, its a tavern, its not the Top of the Hub, for what it is, the prices, service, and food are pretty good.

Malden has been in need for a new sports pub for a while, and then along came JBT. Lots of seating inside, and more importantly lots of seating outside. In fact, there's an entire bar outside. Does it get any better than that? I'm not sure, but this place is great for a brew outside at night. This has become a spot I stop at after a long bus ride from NYC. Tall beers and reasonable prices make the long trek worth it.

As a frequent visitor of JB during the warmer months, I must say, this spot is great. I really enjoy it here, and the patio and outdoor bar is an amazing draw in to the location. My friend S and I have been here many times and we really enjoy our time here. The 25oz beer, yum. Oh and get the nachos for sure. I'm big on nachos and I really critique places by the nachos and/or cheese fries. So this place is A-OK in my book. They also don't give me weird looks when I ask for just a plate of pickles.. not fried (but those are good too here!) just pickles to eat. Lots of TVs to watch games and if you're lucky enough to grab a booth you get your own personal TV which is really cool. There are two areas to sit in the dining area or the tavern area; we always chose the tavern area because it's livelier. They have music on the weekends, cover bands and such. Good promotions via their Facebook too.

I have to update my review following my trip back to Brewer's last night. I hadn't been there since February, but my friend and I decided to swing by to drink cheap beer and watch the first NFL game of the year. After a pitcher or two, we decided that we needed to order some food so we just went with the appetizer platter. It was miserable. The potato skins were chewy, the chicken was hard, the mozzerella sticks had an extra layer of crunch that I've never experienced before in my life. The boneless wings were salvagable. Instead of ordering something else, we just elected to pass on eating the rest of the night. I'm definitely going to second-guess coming here again. The $9 Coors Light pitchers are tough to match around here, but I think I'd elect to go to the nearby Dockside, which has much better food.

If you want bad service this is NOT the place. The waiters are on top of their game and get you what you need BEFORE you ask. Our table got some half off apps when we got there @ 11 pm. Not a bad deal for sure.

I have been here at least 30 times, i go to this location a lot but i also went to their Waltham Restaurant quite a bit when i was in College. initially this was only a place where i went for the cheap wings on Sunday nights, but one time the manager offered me a free desert and i have been trying different items on the menu since, never once was i disappointed. Only thing, at both locations the chairs which are more wooden benches than anything else are all EXTREMELY uncomfortable, but i guess it is part of the old "charm" which they try to maintain. Nonetheless forget the chairs, go get the food and be a fan.

If half-stars were an option, I would give JBT 3.5 because the drinks are strong, the place is big, and the food is not bad for a bar/tavern. But between a 3 and a 4, I have to drop a half star because there are lots of times when this place is just TOO packed to even move! I suppose this is great for the business, but bad for the rest of us who actually want to go there. I have been twice for drinks -- if you can grab a seat at/near the bar, you're golden. Good drinks, average service, expected prices. I also came once for dinner - food was just OK, not great, even by bar standards. If I was meeting someone for dinner I wouldn't say NO to JBT but I wouldn't choose it. There are some things that make this place fun -- they do trivia, have live DJ's, bands, etc. The place is big enough to have some entertaining events. I just find that when I want to go, I can't, which discourages me from making it a must-try for anyone else.

I've been here more than a dozen times because it's close to home. It's always relatively the same. Cold beer and edible food. Last night a gf and I ordered plain chicken wings because we didn't want the buffalo or honey buffalo (I'm spoiled by Buff's in Newton). They had absolutely no flavor to them. Granted I was hungry and it was 25 cent wing night but cmon JBT throw some spices on these puppies or something! Ok forgot to mention when we walked in and sat at the bar the 2 bartenders at our end of the bar were chit chatting away. NP I say for a minute or so plus we were sitting behind the beer taps so ok maybe they couldn't see us. But I recognize the other bartender way down the other end. I smile, wave and shrug my shoulders. He knows exactly what I mean. He walks down and tells them they have customers. I don't want to be That Person when it comes to being a demanding customer but my patience wears thin when it's laziness and not being busy. Still gave them almost a 30% tip for crappy initial service and boring tasteless chicken wings. Why you say? Cuz he was on point with getting us cold beers when we needed them. Sometimes you gotta pick your battles.

Are you ready for some football?! Any sport will do, for that matter. Here's the deal with my favorite spot. The menu is diverse and the beer selection is groovy. Chicken Pot Pie, Burgers and nightly specials keep your taste buds clamoring for the next option, but what has had me hook, line and sinker is the French Onion Soup! Come on in, have a seat in the Tavern with your own personal booth-side TV, or enjoy the dining room for a little less traffic. Either way, "The Tavern" is great!

John Brewer's is 5 minutes from my office. It has a parking lot and is an easy destination for having drinks with co-workers and friends. It's ok, the drinks are a little watered down the food is typical bar food. I have had nachos here a couple of times and only the chips on the top are whole, everything underneath is tiny pieces which is annoying. The chicken wings are an exception because they are SOOOO good. The service is always great, the hosts and servers are always fun and fast. While JB is not my first choice, it's not my last.

I stopped by John Brewer's Tavern with a friend to watch the Celtic's game. When I saw their menu I was impressed with all of the options. However, once we got our food I was less than impressed. I know that I should be more skeptical of restaurant onion soup (with the exception being high-end establishments). The soup was so salty it was practically inedible. I found the service to be extremely slow. The waitress was disinterested in serving our table in a timely manner (I'm not sure if this was because it was a busy Saturday night or what). With there being so many other bars, taverns, etc in greater Boston, it's doubtful I will be back.

Joined some friends there on a Sunday night to abuse this place's twenty cent wings special and after all five of us proceeded to be seated in a far corner of the place, we placed our orders. While there's plenty of seating available along with televisions and the place is clean, I was not a fan of the very tacky, chain-like atmosphere. Not that I hate all chains, but this one's decor wasn't all that great. Within a few minutes, our baskets of wings arrived and they were ok but far from great. The sauce was spread unevenly and they tasted way too salty. I asked for hot and couldn't feel any heat. The blue cheese serving was generous but not necessary since I had no heat to keep in check. The carrots and celery were ok. While they didn't skimp on the wings, I was expecting a bit better, even for twenty cents and I've had better wings elsewhere. My beer arrived but wasn't very cold and flat - my waitress tried to argued with me about it but finally gave in and replaced it. There's far better places for wings in my opinions and this place is only good if you don't care about high quality food and want to grab a quick bite to eat and a cheap beer. They have a decent selection of brews including Harpoon IPA, various Sam Adams beers and even Rapscallion and Blue Moon. Along with it, they constantly have specials on their food, which is why I'm giving them a three star rating. It's a casual place for the average joe.

As someone else stated, I often wish half stars were available to us because I feel badly putting JB's at 3 stars but it still isn't 4 star quality overall. We were last there on a Monday night, the .25 wing special suckered us in along with the Celtics playoff game. It was PACKED for a Monday and it wasn't even warm enough to go outside on the patio, kudos to them for being able to pull in a good sized crowd when a meaningful game is on. I actually wanted a booth with the TV's but there just weren't any available so we ended up in one of the high bar tables with stools smack dab in front of a 50" LCD and the Celtics game (with sound!) was pumped throughout the bar area. We're not frequent bar/pub dwellers because my g/f doesn't drink and I may only end up with two beers at the most. So like I mentioned before, the wings were the draw. I don't know if it's a reflection on the restaurant or it's clientele but its' really sad that you need a lawyer to go through the list of rules to be "entitled" to the wing special. It rubs me the wrong way, like someone is going to take advantage of them and ONLY order wings and nothing else. I laughed at the list when I saw how long it was so I don't remember exactly what it entailed, but it was something like "no your kids can't partake, you must buy a drink, oh and btw, we charge for soda refills on wing night, you can only get 10 or 20 at a time and the veggies will cost you extra as well". BFD, it's silly and offputting to an educated consumer that these rules need to be in effect. This coming from someone who could never understand how a place made money off of ten cent wings in college. Of course I"ll buy something else but don't guilt or insult me into it. Our server was really great, checking up the right amount of times throughout and had a pleasant demeanor. He never gave us any crap about the wings even though last time I was pissed they wouldn't let the two of us split 10 at a time, we actually protested going back for awhile. So service was awesome, the stipulations on food specials are stupid and the atmosphere is pleasant and had a lot of energy when it was packed......that to me leaves them at 3.5 stars but just not 4 yet. Honestly, if they took away the dumb rules, they'd probably have gotten an extra boost.

Two years ago, long before joining Yelp, I would have given John Brewer's one star. At that time, I remember having rude/inconsistent service. One waiter was great, a week later, we have a DBag. Obviously, one waiter was hard working than others. However, communication amongst the waitstaff clearly wasn' t there. After nearly two years, I decided to give it another chance. Okay, it's not as bad as it used to be. Two and half stars today; not quite three. Some great features is that it has its own parking lot. Hostess is friendly, they have a great patio for outdoor seating. The menu should be revamped. It's a typical pub/bar menu. Sandwiches, burgers and an eh-ok steak. It peeves me to know that each condiment you'd like on your sandwich/burger costs $.75 each. A naked hamburger costs $10? I hate restaurants that will nickle and dime. It's a horrible concept! Also, with 25-cent wing nights: "you can't share wings" and "you can only eat at the bar". I guess you're S-O-L when the bar is full. You can't go into the dining room and still get the 25-cent wing deal in their own restaurant. If this was on Food Network's Restaurant Impossible, the British guy will have the manager's head on a plate! (No pun intended.) Seriously, I'll say it again: This is a horrible concept and should be stripped immediately. Let the customer "have it their way" and make it a more pleasurable and palatable dining experience. This will only attract more attention and I wouldn't be forced to mention this on Yelp. I'm no barfly. But, if you're here just for the buzz, it doesn't seem so bad. If you want food, then there are too many restrictions and it just creates an unpleasant atmosphere. Give it up, John Brewer! You can be so much better than this.

This past Friday I met some friends here for a drink or two... I only ordered a quesidilla for food and it was decent. I am writing this review because our waiter was one of the best ever. He was very attentive and timely. He interacted will all of us as were were part of a huge group!!! Hats off to Mike Boyer, one of the best waiters I have had in a while... THANK YOU!

Excuse me, waiter? Another round of Jack-n-Pickle Juice please! ---- What?! First place I've ever been to where there's a pickle juice shot available on the menu (and next time, I WILL try it!). While I was mezmorized by pickle juice, I didn't have the opportunity to sample their FOOD menu. Though my friends did - and the guys really seemed to love their Tavern Platter: chicken fingers, pub skins, mottz sticks, boneless buffalo wings with dipping sauce (not bad for 11$ - but really doesn't look like it could fill more than 2 or 3 beer-drinking males). It smelled pub-heavenly *heart* Pretty good space for a big group to hang out and catch up with one another; loads of high-tops and loads of room at the bar. The bartender is fast, the price was good, and grub is available (why not smample some fried pickles with your Jack-n-Pickle Juice?). Plus...they ring a bell when a good tip comes in (...bonus points *ding*).

Great local tavern! My husband and I moved to Medford years ago and were thrilled to discover John Brewer's. It is a perfect combination of sports bar, tavern, and local restaurant. We always receive friendly service while we are there, and are surrounded by patrons laughing and sharing experiences with friends. If you go, you must try the nachos. By far, the best I have ever had. They give you a huge portion of perfectly salted chips, with cheese that has been wonderfully baked on the chips, spicy jalapenos, and fresh salsa. I can't say enough about this restaurant.

John Brewers shocked me in the best way when I went their for lunch with my dad. There's a sweet patio area with its own bar so we could drink & catch some sunshine while we waited for our food. I had a haddock sandwich with sweet potato fries and could not believe the good quality of the food! While the place is in a weird location & looks like your typical sports bar, the food is most certainly above pub level. Highly recommended!

At John Brewers, there is a television at every booth. You read that right. So if you are, for instance, one of those people who simply cannot miss an inning of Red Sox baseball, but yet your very inconsiderate friends (must be Yankees fans or something) ask you to hang out on a night where there's a Sox game, you totally have a compromise, built right in. And who says you're hard to get along with? At John Brewers, there is a 6-1 ratio of visibly drunk people to sober people. Luckily, of the drunk people, 80% of them are happy drunks and the others have just been there for five hours and have a glaze to them similar to a Krispy Kreme. Too much math? Did the mere mention of a Krispy Kreme send your diet into failure mode? I know a place where you can drink your worries away. At John Brewers, they put cornbread on the table and will tell you you're drinking O'Douls if that will make you feel better. They'll even put your "O'Douls" in a frosty mug with blueberries on the bottom if you ask sweetly enough. And it'll taste like real beer! At John Brewers, you clearly have decided to pick the most happening establishment in its surrounding strip mall. Good for you: you chose the bar and grill over the gym, Dunkin Donuts, Weight Watchers, another donut shop, and the day care center, plus you have a really good game of "Mismatched in Malden" to play with your friends in the bar, if you so desire.

We stopped in here for a couple of drinks and an impromptu dinner after shopping for new glasses at the nearby optometrist's. In fact, most of the non-regulars who make it into this John Brewer's location can probably make a similar statement: "We stopped in here for (blank) after (blanking) at the nearby (blank). The bartender was uber-friendly, though, and chatted us up immediately, my broken ankle of course being the scintillating centerpiece of our conversation. They pour a good extra-large Whale's Tail, which is a big plus in my book. The spacious, medium-grain wood interior is full of flat-screen TVs, good for watching the game, and to distract you from the dismal view of the parking lot. We ordered the calamari, which was odd, in that it was a full-price app, but came with fried pepper rings that appeared to be mixed in to make the dish look more plentiful than it was. I did like the peppers, but I thought for 9 bucks, they should be giving us more squid. The shrimp scampi was okay, and the jambalaya with penne was good, if gooey and heavy. Friendly customer service makes this a place we'd return to if in the neighborhood, but the average to bland food and the grotty location = we will never drive to you on purpose.

I went with my attorney for happy hour. Sounds like an oxymoron: Attorney/Happy Hour. But, he told me about this place, drove me there and home. Now I hope he doesn't bill me for the hours. Nice to have a decent pub around. Service was fast and friendly. We didn't get to sample the food. A few pints were just enough. I'll be watching more YELP for hygiene comments before considering food there.

My boyfriend & friends and I are ones to always check out .25 cent wing places, as well as new bars to watch games at. and we thought this place would be great since its right near our home... but nope! for the .25 cent wings you get a list of "rules" in order to get the wings, like the wings are some sort of privledge or something, they are not a special privledge- you offer them and i pay for them. that should be it. we dont drink. and i dont even drink soda or anything so whenever i go out i just get water. well guess what? you cant get water and wings. you have to get a drink! wtf?! i am a small girl, i eat about 5 wings and am stuffed. but they have a minimum of 10!! you can only order 10 or 20 wings which is ridiculous. so i thought it would be nice if my friend who ordered a drink got the wings and we split it, but nope, cant do that either. wtf?! want celery with your wings? its gonna cost you .75 cents! what place does that?!?! some way or another i ended up with wings that were cold and absolutely flavorless. at the end of the night we had to argue a bunch of things on our bill because we got double charged. when leaving john brewers, my boyfriend said "i am never coming back here" and everyone agreed. i only give them 2 stars because at the end when we were arguing our bill it got taken care of right away.

I only go to this place for work functions and I refuse to be convinced to go here or order from here again. I have eaten from here 4 times and here is what I think the problem is: they really want to offer the customer everything under the sun (menu is huge) therefore everything is below average. If you just focus on one type of food even if it's just a limited number of your classic bar/pub foods they would improve. They can't even master a damn wrap or buffulo sauce. I usually don't even remember what I get cause it's always forgettable but the Mac and cheese I had recently is what caused me to write this Yelp. It was cheeseless, more soggy chicken than pasta, and the weirdest choice of pasta for mac and cheese. The pasta choice allowed the limited amount of cheese that could of been on there to fall off.

Now that I've moved (with the bf) to the "Not Near Davis" side of Medford, bf and I went exploring in Malden to find a decent pub with some good grub and drafts (especially considering the relative dryness of Medford.) First off, this place is near to a union hall, so I'm first assuming that as a plus right there. But, it is in a shopping plaza near a Dollar Tree, so if you're looking for location, location, location, sorry. You're in the burbs. John Brewers offered good food at very decent prices. They had a good mix of your average beer offerings as well as some great microbrew and specialty options, and a full cocktail menu. The atmosphere was very laid back. It had a pub/local tavern type feel with wood booths, high-top tables, dark color scheme accented with brass, and lots of TVs playing sports, including one at each booth with its own remote. This made the bf especially happy since we found a re-run hockey game in August. It's the only sport he likes. The server was friendly and offered drink suggestions (even brought us a taste of a couple of the specialty beer offerings), but struck a good balance and left us to enjoy each other's company for the duration of our meal. Our tab consisted of 2 beers (one normal size, and one HUGE), a turkey club, honey buffalo chicken tenders and a side salad, and came out to about $33. It was under $40 even with our generous tip. All in all, this is a very unassuming place. Come as you are and get good food, good drink, and great service. Sounds simple, but compared to how many places that try to accomplish that and fail (*cough* anything owned by the Joshua Tree group), it's worth voting with your dollar. Cheers.

Dear Manager, I had the pleasure of going to your tavern location in Medford and the food and atmosphere there was great!! However, I was initially impressed with Cassandra's enthusiasm, communication skills and professional demeanor when I sat on table HT17 as it read on my receipt. As a Service Manager myself, I always look for great customer service everywhere I go and tonight, while the night was getting busy for her, Cassandra demonstrated outstanding customer service skills with a smile not only to me but also to multiple tables that she served! If you are looking for classic pub food for a good deal, come to John Brewer's. They have great deals - my personal favorite is the $5 burger night. The food is good and the staff is always friendly. Sometimes it gets a little nuts on Boston sports nuts, but that's half the fun in my opinion.

The food is okay...pretty standard pub food, nothing out of this world. I've eaten here a couple of times and I've never had meal where I said to myself, "that was the best thing that I've ever eaten and I can't wait to go back". Also, don't ever come here if you want to play trivia on Wednesday nights. I've tried to play several times and the host is always late (they advertise that it starts at 8:00pm but it doesn't get started until 8:30-8:45pm). We've been here on several occasions and it never disappointed. They have a nice selection of beer on draft. The wait staff is always very friendly and service is fast. The burgers here are great - it's huge, juicy, and cooked exactly how you like it. It's $10 for a burger and beer, how can you go wrong with that?! The ambiance is nice and rowdy. They also have a dining area for those that don't like the noise. I'm not sure if they offer table reservations, but it wouldn't be a bad idea on a weekend because the noisier area is always packed. They also have TVs on every booth.

Well I got the surf and turf which I do not recommend.The steak tips were excellent but as far as the stuffed shrimp goes the seafood stuffing smelled pretty bad and tasted worse.It smelled like a combo of cat food and tuna,horrible.It came with garlic mashed potatoes which were good and summer squash /zucchini/carrot mix that were not cooked long enough.I'd go back for steak tips and a beer but will not ever get seafood from there again.

I had a great experience at John Brewer's Tavern. My friend and I swung in on a Friday night to get some drinks we had the perfect amount of service and everything we ordered was good. The beers were HUGE and they had an extensive list of draft choices. The waitress gave me a few suggests for appetizers and I took her advice; honey chipotle boneless wings. I definitely recommend trying them! Sounds so simple, and it was, but what made me really enjoy my experience and the fingers were the fact that I got fresh celery and carrots with them. Everywhere else either gives you tiny/wimpy/limp stix or, more commonly, no stix at all. The music was a flashback to mid 90's (which is good or bad, depending on the mood) and all the tvs had the sox game on so two thumbs up y'all.

I have dined here 3 times and after my last experience I decided to write a review for anyone willing to try to place and hopefully to expand the pallets of people who frequent it. First of all I will talk about the beer selection. Pathetic! How can you call yourself a Tavern and your most unique beer be Sam Adams? The beer selection looks like something a high school student drinking in the woods would have! I understand the staples of Bud and Coors but come on! Have at least twice as many beers than what you have. I am honestly surprised they don't have Natural Ice, and if they did I wouldn't be shocked. The saddest thing about about this beer review is that I am not even a beer snob but when I go to a tavern I would like to try something different. Don't get me wrong, I actually enjoy bud light but if you want a tavern I would say go to Davis Sq or for a real good selection the Sunset Grill will blow your mind if you think they have a decent selection at John Brewers. The food was salty, bland, uninspired and poorly cooked. I ordered the beef stew which was not available and then the meatloaf. There were large chunks of peppers in it, covered in a canned mushroom gravy and unseasoned meat. It literally was ground beef and pepper chunks. My wife ordered the burger which didn't seem anything that you couldn't make at home. I felt bad for her considering she used to live next to R.F. O'Sulivans in Somerville which have real burgers. The service and people. The hostess seemed nervous because her manager or boss was next to her and spoke to us as if we were in a 5 star restaurant. It was actually kind of comical how stiff and unnatural she was. The waitress was friendly and forgot our drinks but we were charged them on the bill (which we had to clear up). The crowd were locals and nothing wrong with that. I am a Medford kid. I just felt inspired to write this review after reading the other reviews talking of this place so highly. I understand driving only 5 min to meet up with friends but I'm telling you drive another 5 into Cambridge or Somerville and your experience would be much better. Overall I felt from having experience in the food business previously that the owner of John Brewers just is in it for the money. My friends who are chefs would be embarrassed to serve a burger and meatloaf like the ones they did. A person who wants a tavern should have a passion for the brew and have a great variety of beers, not just ones that you see commercials on TV for. The overall all cheap food and bad food and yet good reviews tells me this guy or girl is happy with his profit. I am disappointed that a place this close to me failed to meet my expectations. If you want a John Brewers experience I would say go to the store and get a hungry man microwavable dinner and a can of Coors light. Like I said earlier, if John Brewers opened 5 min west in Somerville or Cambridge they wouldn't stand a chance against the pubs there with great food and a great beer selection.

The boy and I were looking for something new and we remembered this was here. I was a little skeptical, remembering the drunken ruckus that used to occupy the space, but was really happy with what we found... Awesome restaurant! Good pub food, decent beers on tap and TVs everywhere. We sat on the bar side, with the high top tables, but the other side looked nice and the booths there had TVs. It was pretty busy when we arrived, but got packed while we were there. It seems we just missed the dinner rush, arriving about 5:30. Service was pleasant and although the food did take a bit longer than expected, it was hot and fresh. My burger was actually cooked medium rare! That was a treat. Dessert, the brownie, was eh, but I'll let it slide. Overall, very satisfied with the food and will definitely be back.

John Brewer's Tavern is a good local lunch or simple dinner place. if you want to catch a game or have a casual dinner with friends it's one of the only spots in the area. The menu won't blow you away with creative dishes but it's full of pub food at good prices. Dishes are well executed for what they are. The boneless wings are always moist and $0.10 wings on Sundays are really good. Chicken pot pie, burgers/fries, and hot turkey sandwich are all good choices. Service at the bar is always friendly and accommodating.

The veggie burger is perfect, I've ordered it every time we've gone and crave it from time to time! They must have changed kitchen staff because the last two times we've gone the veggie burgers and fries have gone way downhill. Not inedible, but disappointing!

And their nachos are good, but the salsa is lacking. But what makes John Brewers stand out is location. Yes, John Brewers is just like your average pub, but it's in Malden. And there's not much else going around in this area where you can go and watch a game and get a good drink and eat some good food on the cheap. So, thank you John Brewers. This is a fun place to go. They have a lot of options for food and drinks and little TVs in the booths along the bar. They also have a dinning area if you want to get out of the tavern area. The food is not great but its good, and the portion sizes are very good. The drinks vary in strength, but overall its a fun place to go meet up with some friends. They always have games on and music at night. It's loud but not too loud, you can def have a conversation without yelling but don't have to worry about other people hearing you either. Parking is good and there is an outdoor area in the summer time which is nice.

Things you must know to aide in judgment of this review: 1. John Brewer's was NOT my choice. A friend and I went out for a quick bite before a Friday night out. 2. We sat on the "Tavern" side; again not my choice. 3. According to the aforementioned friend, John Brewer's has good veggie-burgers (a fact which I can neither confirm nor deny). 4. I am basing this off of my first and only trip to JB's. With that being said... This place is your typical low cost chain restaurant trying to make it "big". The menu was hackneyed, the food (I got chicken fingers (very banal, I know)) wasn't particularly imaginative, the place was insanely loud, and the crowd was a very typical given the location and nature of the establishment. On the positive side: our waitress was very pleasant, JB's looks as if it's a great low-key place to watch a Sox game (at the bar), the food was speedy to get to the table, and the price was to be expected for this variety of institution. Also, I know we had one at our table, but I believe each table has their own TV w/ remote to flip through different games and whatnot. I was pretty excited about that. Normally, I would do a 2 star review given my experience, however I was told the veggie-burger and sweet potato fries make up for a lot of JB's shortcomings (which prompted the 3rd star).

Went here last night with some friends. Nice little spot. Great food and good atmosphere. I had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and vegetables. It's hard to find a good meatloaf if you ask me. I almost judge a restaurant on how good the meatloaf is which in this case was really good. I washed it down with a cold Blue Moon which was also great. Prices are decent but not cheap. I would definitely go back.

I lived in Waltham for a short period and the worst part about moving back to the north shore was going to be living without Brewers. Thankfully, they opened this location shortly after I moved. It's a great local bar with patio seating. It is certainly not your typical Rt.1 restaurant and for that, I'm grateful. Their patio seating is great in the summer, and it's hard to believe you are on busy Highland Ave. when you're out there enjoying a beer and some nachos. Speaking of, their buffalo chicken nachos? Amazing! They are the main reason I love this place so. I haven't had much of their food since I typically devour the whole plate of nachos as a meal, so I can't speak much to the rest of the menu. Their beer selection is also pretty decent and updates frequently. At times, it seems to be an older crowd unlike the Waltham location. However, it still delivers and is a nice change of pace from Boston and Salem.

Moved to the Medford line about a year ago, and there were zero places to hang out, relax, and watch a game. Then came John Brewers. No complaints about it - I've been here at least 10-12 times in the last year and have enjoyed myself each time. Plenty of TVs and we always seem to get a seat at the bar. The outdoor patio with a view of scenic Middlesex Ave was a great addition, and even has a bar with a tv at it. Lots of locals hang out here, and the age group is older, so it's laid back and relaxed in spite of how crowded it can get. I like the chili in the winter, the buffalo chicken wrap, the sweet potato fries, and recently they added a sausage + linguini dish to their summer menu which I thought was the best thing I've eaten there (it was delicious). it's all pub food though so don't expect too much. as for the guy who complained about the calamari having hot peppers in it - it's called "Rhode Island Style Calamari" - that's exactly what that entails (adding hot peppers to the calamari dish). Don't go here if you're looking for a hip crowd, night life type activity or fancy dining. Do go here if you're looking to hang out with some friends, have some laughs, and take in a low key night.

The food here was absolutely terrible. It tasted the same as if you went to a terrible chain restaurant. The nachos were taste-less, the burger was boring, and the Watch City Salad which sounded SO promising was just so-so. Many places in the same area have much better food at the same price. I will definitely not eat here again. I must say, though, that the service was wonderful and the waiter was superb. Too bad he couldn't make up for the bland food. However, I will definitely be back here to drink. The drink prices are not the cheapest around, but I have hung out there on more than one occasion and the crowd is a good, local one and you are guaranteed to know some of the faces. The bartenders were really friendly and quick. This place is ideal when you have nothing to do on a Thursday night.

A good friend of mine and I went here for lunch yesterday and we loved it. It's a tavern, so expect lots of wood, colonial decor, lots of beer on tap, and chicken wing eating contests. Like it or not this place is pretty good. I got a buffalo chicken wrap (keeping it simple) and the chicken was grilled, not fried, which I was excited about. There are a lot of healthy options of the menu like a veggie burger and a 9-grain roll and turkey tips with steamed veggies to just name a few. The place is pretty big by the way, with tons of televisions. Each booth had it's own TV so if your not interested in the game you can turn on something more entertaining, like the Golden Girls. Don't get me wrong here, I love the Golden Girls, but let's face it: If you are at the Tavern you are there for the game. Great food, good prices, friendly people. Check it out it's great!

No matter what you're looking for you won't be disappointed, you won't leave thinking you had the best meal of your life but you'll be satisfied. Its a great local spot to go for pub food and drinks with friends. Great beer selection and the outdoor patio is great...for Malden. I definitely recommend the mac n cheese or the beef stew.

I will say up front that I had 2 Pumpkinhead Ale's with a shot of Stoli vanilla in them and cinnamon and sugar on the glass, their Pumpkin Pie beer. So, that may have influenced things a bit. It was the first time I've ever tried that, and it was sooo good. Location is weird, in a plaza with Papa John's pizza, a Dollar Tree store and across from a Wendy's. I usually drive by this plaza on my way to other places. There is outdoor seating, but I'm not sure I would enjoy it, given the area. Stopped in Sunday of Labor Day weekend for a quick meal. The place was quiet, so we sat on the Pub side. I like the decor, all dark polished wood. I can imagine, with TVs at every table, that this place is crazy during baseball/football games and really loud. But the inside is a nice distraction from the location. We started off with spinach and artichoke dip, as well as boneless buffalo wings. We were starving, but we could have stopped with these 2 items, because they were both pretty good size and tasty. I ordered Fish and Chips (the standard by which I judge all pub-type places) and husband had the Bacon Bleu Burger. My fish was really crispy, which I liked. If the fries had been steak fries, I would have been in heaven, but regular fries were still good. Our waiter was fine with wrapping up the rest of the spinach dip to go, so that was good. I know some places give you crap about taking the apps home. The only thing I found confusing was the roll of paper towels on our table. I kept putting them on the edge of the table so our server would take them away, but he never did. I think they were running a special on wings that night, so that was probably reason for them being there, but I didn't see them on any other table. We also had 3 different servers during the evening, which was strange since it didn't start to get busy until towards the end of our meal. Another guy came over at the end of our meal, probably the manager, to ask how everything was. I appreciate that kind of service. I should have asked him about the paper towels, but I was too busy raving about my beer! This is pretty close to home, and it was good enough that I will definitely go back. And I have been dreaming about that Pumpkin Pie beer!

The food is about as good, if not better, than that of a 99's restaurant. Bread bowl clam chowder is good as well as the honey buffalo wings. Don't expect to be floored by the food, but it does do the job. As for the beer variety, they have a very good assortment of beer on tap, and I was able to try several of them with one of their beer flights (4 beer samples, about 5 oz each, for $5.95) Almost all of the beers (IPA's, Christmas Warmer, etc.) was delicious and not too expensive. They offer their beers in pints or blockbuster mugs of 25.5 oz. Not bad at all.

For those who complain about the location in a shopping plaza I respectfully point out that parking is never a problem like Davis Sq. for instance. The food for the most part is good and it does tend to get loud on the weekends. I am a once a month visitor on average an get exactly what I expect every time. This is a great neighborhood place to go to. The staff is always friendly, though not always the best. I had a couple bad waitresses but then again, I never saw them again, so they must have been fired, other than that, always great service. The food and beer selection is enjoyable and is a decent list if you enjoy average beers, but if you are going for specific Craft beers, you may not find them here. Best nights are Mondays and Sundays for the wings nights. The wings are delicious and good size. I took off one star because they changed up their wings policy. You can only have the wings when sitting in the tavern and they went from 20c to 25c. There are three flavors, regular, honey buffalo, and buffalo, all delicious. There are plenty of tvs to check out the games and each booth in the tavern has its own tv and remote, though you only get a few channels, usually only sports. All in all, a great place with a good atmosphere and fair prices. Now I feel like having wings.

I want to like John Brewer's Tavern. I really do. There's a scarcity of good pubs in Medford, and John Brewer's is right over the border. It's new, and clean, and has lots of lcd tv's. It has lcd tvs in the bar booths, where you can choose the channel your booth wants to watch. Friendly staff, and a bar, with beers on tap. A pretty varied menu. Sounds great!!! But whatever is going on in the kitchen, something's broken. First time I went I was asked how I wanted my prime rib cooked. I said rare, and underscored that I wanted it rare. When it came out, mine was definitely not rare. It wasn't medium rare, it wasn't even medium. It was medium well, like my friend's. I asked the waitress to take it back (which I hate doing because I hate wasting steak but it was two degrees away from what I asked for) and the manager came back with my plate. Bad sign. He said that it was dark in my booth and that it wasn't really done that much, which I wasn't buying. I wasn't going to send something back if it was anywhere close to being rare. Then he said that the chef said he couldn't cook it rare, that it would end up being cold. Now I understand that restaurants will not want to cook items rare because of liability or whatever, but I can't believe a chef will say he can't cook it rare - that it's not possible. I'm stunned. And you know if you don't want to cook it rare, that's fine. Just tell me and I'll order something else. It'll save you time, me time, and save the piece of steak. But the food I had it replaced with was tasty and I was definitely willing to go back again, just not order steak this time. Then last night I went and ordered a reuben, with some A1 on the side. Some other tables were seated. Those tables started receiving their food. When the table next to us had received several rounds of food I asked the waitress where I our food was. It had been well over an hour, and other people were getting food in front of us. She said that appetizers take less time (okay, but I ordered a frigging sandwich) and there was some kind of confusion in the kitchen. Plus they saw on the order "A1 on side" and therefore got confused. After a further wait, we finally got our food (by this time my date was starving as well). The food was good, although the reuben was a lot smaller than I was expecting. Now, I'm going to go again. The food is good, the waitstaff friendly. They have beer. It's conveniently close. Parking is easy. They have beer. I'll be really bummed if the chef stupiditates all over my food again.

This is only the second time in ten years that I've had food that was inedible. Maybe if you drink heavily you'll enjoy John Brewer's but don't go for the food. A shot in the arm for the area as it's sorely needed. I LIKE this place...I don't LOVE it, but what it does it right. Spacious and comfortable and a TV on every table, great for watching sports. Might spend more winter nights here but I won't avoid during the summer at all. The meatloaf, fish and chips, chicken pot pie and for sandwiches try the French Dip (hold the onions) and the Turkey Club Wrap. A good staff, and friendly clientele. This is the BEST place in Malden! The food is great...all american, pub grub and american classics and an AWESOME bar. The bar staff are great. The food is soooo good. The Honey Buffalo Wings are my favorite and my friends RAVE about the nachos. They have a great selection of beers both on tap and bottled. They have lots of different burgers, meatloaf, and chicken pot pie. I most recently went here after work on a Friday and the place was absolutely bumpin'. Packed with lots of different types of people, the bar was so busy you'd think we had happy hour in Massachusetts. The bar is huge with lots of seats and the booths in the bar area have their own mini-flat screen tvs!!!! This place is going to be crazy when the Sox are playing! I highly recommend this place!

I rarely post reviews; I only bother when a restaurant is either exceptionally good or exceptionally bad. Unfortunately John Brewers falls in the second category. Sliders were terrible. Worse than McDonalds quality meat. None of us could eat them. Steak was average. Spring vegetables were a watered down, undercooked, bland mess. Mashed potatoes were in desperate need of seasoning... Overall, we were all extremely dissatisfied and left hungry.

After hearing alot of great things about John Brewers in Malden, my husband and I decided to check it out. I have to say, the staff was so attentive and delightful. I had the yankee pot roast which took me back to my childhood when my mother would make it. (Delicious). The hubby had the steak tip dinner that was to die for. The manager brought us our dinner and welcomed us along with the general manager. This was a great experience and we will definitely be going back. Also the place was very busy, which only goes to show they are doing something right..

So me and my fiance decided to come and check out this place through a add on Facebook. Upon arrival the staff and servers were really friendly. First we started off with a cucumber Martini which I must say was properly made and they were not stingy with alcohol. The fish Tacos and the jambalaya rice were very good ass well. My fiance ordered the lobster rolls which came with 2 and a side off fries and Cole slaw. I must say hers were better than mines. Our server was very nice and actually offered me a side cup with ice just incase I wanted my martini on the rocks which I actually ended up doing. So sorry I forgot her name but next time we will be asking for her again . At the end of the day we were both full and satisfied with our meals and definitely look forward to coming back another day.

The nacho craving hit so I stopped by. The nachos were a good size, tasted pretty average, and the service was very fast. Half priced apps on Tuesdays was a bonus. The bar staff was friendly. I think I'll go back and try a few more things on the menu to get a better feel. It had a good atmosphere and lots of parking.

JBT is my neighborhood go-to. Nice variety of cold beer on tap and the food is very good (some items are a little expensive for pub food, but they do offer a lot of weekday deals at the bar). The bartenders and servers have always been pleasant and attentive too! Gets packed during sporting events / most nights from what I have seen, but usually you can still find space in the bar area. I never have made it to the actual dining room.... In the summer, sit outside-- even though the view is nothing to write home about, they have a big/clean patio area with a lot of tables and another bar complete with a TV.

This is a great lunch spot. $5 burgers mon-fri 11:30-2! They also have a decent selection of beers including local brews. The bar area is perfect for lunch but getting dinner here is good too. The best part of dinner is definitely the corn bread. I only wished they served it in the bar.

KNocking a few stars off the ole rating. Went on Monday night because we were in the area ( literally in the parking lot) with friends. I figured it would be super packed because USA was playing in the world cup, but we were able to be seated immediately. Husband was excited to see 25 cent wings and I was excited to see it was Kids eat free night - Which stated Mondays after 5pm, when an adult orders from Tavern specialties or Dinner salad selections, 2 kids eat free* then the dreaded asterisk Kids 12 and under, not valid with take out or any other coupons, promotions or discounts. Here is where I get unhappy folks... as others have mentioned they have this 25 cent wing deal with a list of rules... but I don't understand the logic. I ordered a dinner salad. My husband ordered wings. i ordered my kid a kids meal. YES, it says not valid with other promotions, but, had I gone in by myself / asked for maybe separate checks and ordered my salad and a kids meal(EVEN 2 kids meals) I would have paid about $15 for my salad. Instead we paid over $40 because my husband had drinks (and we paid $5 for wings and $5 for a kids meal.)Its only $5 but how does that even make sense? Needless to say... I won't bother going back. On a more food related note: the wings weren't good and my salad wasn't either.

Great beer on tap and good appetizers . I highly recommend the chicken thighs in Buffalo sauce and blue cheese dressing- The best!

Sangria was average. Chicken wings were average. Lobster rolls were the worst we have ever had. Service was good. Bathrooms needed tending.

We've been here probably 20 or so times over the past 8 months. Solid food choices, good portions, large beer list, and super staff. We've had the occasional complaint and it was also resolved immediately, sometimes comped (the real truth is my boyfriend is from Ukraine, and his English is sometimes spotty, so as they say, gets lost in the translation). In the summer (please, spare us any more winter!!) they have an outside patio. We'll go for a late lunch, and drink beer. Granted, the scenery of Highland Ave and Wendy's isn't that inspired, but beats the crap out of the view from my apartment. It' a tavern, so don't expect anything more than rock-solid American food, served by people who, from their demeanor and friendliness, get more than minimum wage. Either that, or the manager threatens them with torture at the start of each shift.

Went to John Brewers for a late dinner a few weeks ago after finding that most sit down places in the Malden/Medford area close around 10PM. Apparently they have specials throughout the week, and Wednesday's special is a $5 burger with fries. Score! Meal was fairly good, and I even had 1/2 a burger left over for lunch the next day. I also like how they have TVs at every table, that's a unique set up. Also, they have Stump Trivia on Wednesday nights, but sadly I showed up as it was ending. The place was pretty packed with trivia-lovers though.

I went here a couple weeks back when the World Series trophy was on display. It was a charity event so we figured we'd go see the trophy and grab a bite. We were expecting a wait but were told it would only be 20 minutes. There was a game on and no one was leaving so we wound up waiting an hour. If we had known that we would've just taken a picture with the trophy and gone somewhere else for dinner. But the wait really wasn't the issue because we knew it would be a busy night. What wasn't great....the FOOD. I had a burger and my husband got I think the roast beef dip. Both of us were pretty unimpressed. It was basically typical bar food lacking in flavor. This may be a great place to go to drink and watch a game, but I would not eat here again.

The best thing this place has going is the $10 burger and flight deal. You can get a good burger with fries and a flight of five 6oz pours for ten bucks. The tap list is usually pretty decent with plenty of stuff from Sam Adams, Long Trail and other New England breweries. I recommend John Brewer's for a good local place to watch the game. They have about a million TVs and are well staffed with attentive waiters that never let your glass go empty. They usually have the sound on for all the big games too. The crowd is usually pretty fun with not too many bro-dudes.

I like it. For a tavern, you get decent service, beer, and great food. Once or twice the food was just, well bad, and the manager promptly addressed the issue by giving us a second chance to try another item, and they were redeemed. People, its a tavern, its not the Top of the Hub, for what it is, the prices, service, and food are pretty good.

Malden has been in need for a new sports pub for a while, and then along came JBT. Lots of seating inside, and more importantly lots of seating outside. In fact, there's an entire bar outside. Does it get any better than that? I'm not sure, but this place is great for a brew outside at night. This has become a spot I stop at after a long bus ride from NYC. Tall beers and reasonable prices make the long trek worth it.

As a frequent visitor of JB during the warmer months, I must say, this spot is great. I really enjoy it here, and the patio and outdoor bar is an amazing draw in to the location. My friend S and I have been here many times and we really enjoy our time here. The 25oz beer, yum. Oh and get the nachos for sure. I'm big on nachos and I really critique places by the nachos and/or cheese fries. So this place is A-OK in my book. They also don't give me weird looks when I ask for just a plate of pickles.. not fried (but those are good too here!) just pickles to eat. Lots of TVs to watch games and if you're lucky enough to grab a booth you get your own personal TV which is really cool. There are two areas to sit in the dining area or the tavern area; we always chose the tavern area because it's livelier. They have music on the weekends, cover bands and such. Good promotions via their Facebook too.

Good american tavern, great selection of beers. Good sports bar with TVs ect. I got the chicken finger basket app, which was real good and plenty to eat. Will definitely be back for more beers! Also has a few deals during the week so check those out!
