Great Dominican food! I was hungry and passing through an unfamiliar area, so I was pleasantly surprised with this place I found on Yelp. There was a large selection of food, and the staff was very nice. I will definitely stop by again if I'm ever in the area.

Everything here would go great with beer...butttt that's a different story. Food Everything is fried. Everything. Okay, well 90% of it is. The chicken wings aren't all that special, so you can skip on that. What I do recommend is the bbq ribs, the deep fried pork (with skin), and the potato-meat-balls. The ribs were a sweet tangy flavor served with rice, the pork was crunchy (but a little dry), and the potato-meat-balls are soft and flavorful. It is a fast food atmosphere with a heavy focus on meats and deep fried veggies. Atmosphere I've always seen this location change hands over the past couple of years. It's a hard spot for a restaurant, and a tough location for "walk-ins". On the outside it looks like a generic store you'd find back in your home country (wherever that is). On the inside, it's quite clean and bright. We came at around 2pm, and were surprised to see business still booming even after we left. Staff If you know how to speak Spanish (specifically numbers and sizes), you'll do great. If not, you'll have to get used to pointing at things and making hand gestures as to how much of it you want. They seem like pretty honest folk here since my portion was the same as everyone else's - so language is not a problem. Final Thoughts I'd probably stop by if I was in the mood for some ribs on the run. This location does well because there's very few of them in Lowell. But that doesn't make it a bad thing.

My parents have been on an oxtail kick so had been to Pollo Tipico in Lawrence, which was pretty busy/hard to find parking. My dad had round Rancho Tipico online and since we live in Lowell we decided to check it out for dinner. There was a small lot and also a good amount of street parking available. It seems like a neighborhood establishment with the staff knowing the customers well. The setup was similar to another Dominican restaurant I had been to, where the food (a couple types of meats; sides- plantains/tostones/etc; carbs- spaghetti/white rice,/rice & peas) has been cooked and is behind the case. The service was excellent! My mom can be picky about meat, but they were more than accommodating with the pieces she wanted. We got a L- oxtail (should have been $11), S- rice & peas (should have been $4) and S- plantains (probably also $4) to go. When it was time to pay, we were told just to give $8! I guess they were feeling generous to some first-timers! The rice & peas and plantains were spot on. My mom thought the oxtail was a bit too salty and could use some more tomatoes so she's using the leftovers for a pasta dish. We were really impressed by this place and definitely will be returning for a delicious, casual meal!

This place is sooo good. Plaintains spanish rice ribs. Great dominican spot. They should sell beer here, but usually get it to go anyway and wash it down with a presidente from the lq around the corner. Yum yum yum.

Great place to stop for a quick lunch. My usual choice is the spanish rice with fried plantains, sometimes pinto beans and roasted chicken as well. Good price for more authentic food.

Yeah...oodles and lots of fried food here but the fried fish - mostly Haddock sometimes Cod - is the real-deal-Holyfield: deeply and well seasoned, juicy like, WHOA!, and the serving size is a really big portion. Please, please (I'm getting my James Brown on) please try their stewed goat, then their stewed oxtails, then their stewed tripe. These Dominicanos get it when it comes to good, fresh, and well seasoned food. Pair the stewed offerings with their "Moro del Gandule" (pidgeon peas and rice or with "CongrÃ"- black beans inwhite rice - In fact, eat here or get a Styrofoam-to-go order, turn left out of the door, left again @ the corner (Cabot St), cross the street and buy food, maybe the same, from BanÃ, another Dominican restaurant. Good food there but El Rancho TÃpico, **THAT'S** the ticket.
