Fan of the watermelon beer and the sample flights. The strawberry margarita is also delicious! Service is super nice and sweet and everyone is accommodating. The patio is a great place to unwind and have a few cocktails and appetizers. Parking is usually plentiful but during a Spinners game, it's 3.00 to park on the street or 5.00 in the private lot. Menu has many offerings to choose from, I like the sausage sliders and pretzel bites. Pricing is reasonable and there is wide range of prices from the higher end seafood to the basic pub menu to satisfy everyone.

As much as it hurts, I'm dropping my rating here. Beer is as good-- maybe better-- than it's ever been. However the management has turned to absolute garbage. First, you can't sit in the dining room except for select times--it's been closed 3 times in a row now. Are you kidding me?? First, little tables in the bar aren't always appropriate for families. Second, It's dead space. Either sublease it or add more pool tables. Even the old brew pup could figure out how to use that dining room. Also, the new (now a year or so old) way of giving points is awful. I never know if i have incentives or not... Finally I sat at one of your tables for 20 minutes recently-- 20 feet from the bar-- without my wait staff coming over to check my beer. If your argument to yourself is that you can keep a better eye on your patrons if they're closer to the center of your house, then clearly then you're gravely mistaken. Management better pick up their pace and fast. Restore your establishment to the great place it used to be-- the new ways are not working.

Came out here for the first time for my 2 year wedding anniversary dinner. The food was good, average service. The menu selection was very large, this makes me want to come back again to try other things. I will say mixed drinks were a little on the weak side but still tasty. I'll try it again and give this a re-write soon.

I have gone to Lowell Beer Works twice. The first time I went I had the worst service of my life. It began when we waited in the entrance for five minutes before anyone sat us. Our Server came over five minutes after we were seated. She brought our drinks with no straws and the Iced Tea had no ice. Two of us ordered burgers and one ordered chicken fingers. Ten minutes after we ordered our meals the waitress came out and told us they didn't have any burgers. We then decided to all get chicken fingers. Our drinks were never refilled and the food came out in pieces. Not by person, but by pieces. Literally she brought the chicken then the fingers then the fries later. The worse thing about the experience was that there was a bartender working in very close proximity and he didn't do anything about the long waits or any help. When we went to lunch there again today, as we work in the same building and we thought the first time may have been a fluke. The service was slow, my burger was over cooked and the Chopped Salad my friend got looked as though it came out of a bag. Terrible Service and sub par food.

I don't know why I went here after reading the other reviews--I guess hope springs eternal. Poor service and absolutely TERRIBLE food. We ordered 4-5 dishes, including apps and entrees, between the two of us, and every single one managed to be disappointing. I didn't think it was possible to screw up clam chowder, but Lowell Beer Works proved me wrong. Continuing in that theme, we ordered the cheese plate, described as "Yellow Cheddar / Irish White Dubliner / Spanish Mahon Cheeses". Sounds appetizing, right? Turns out the cheese plate is just the deli cheeses they put on their burgers, sliced in half in the saddest attempt at fanciness I have ever seen (uploading a photo to prove it). $11 for 10 slices of deli cheese and 10 grapes. I won't even bother reviewing the entrees. Just trust me, don't go here, even if you desperately need to sit outside after a long winter!

This place has really gone downhill. Yesterday, it was not good. One of the steak tips was raw - red and cool inside. Asked for medium. The watermelon beer was, for lack of a better word, funky. It just didn't taste right. So, you combine that all with the anti regular customer changes to their VIP card program and what do you get? What you get is another over-priced restaurant with mediocre, at best, food. We are done with this location, maybe for good. On the plus side, we did have good service from Jamie.

This is a place for those who like craft beers of all kinds. They have a large production, packaging, and distribution facility next to the pub. All the beers they serve here are brewed in-house, and they usually have large collections of IPA and dark ales. Good place to hang out with friends.

Good hang out spot if you have about 3 hours to lose. This place has great potential but the Friday night I went they seemed incredibly understaffed. When you actually saw the wait staff they were helpful and accommodating but you were lucky if you even got a glimpse of them every 30 mins. I would've gotten more food and drinks had they been more attentive. I paid the bill 30 mins after I ordered a drink and it had still not arrived. But good food and beer from the couple of things I got to try.

Parking can be found off-street and metered... There's a garage, but I'm not sure if that's specifically for UML students or condo folk... I stick to the meters- it's like $2 for two hours, very typical of the area. I came in with my H and brother the other night and had a decent time. H and I had recently moved from Connecticut and my little bro wanted to show us a local restaurant (which is a chain! haha) not too far from our childhood home. Let's just say that for an old building which 20ish years ago housed a movie theatre, the new owners did a pretty fantastic job with the theme. It's very industrial-looking with a keg feel- awesome for the young student population. We were quickly seated and our waitress was pretty quick in getting our drinks. She boasted about aaaaaaall the varieties of alcohol on tap, bottle, etc... H and S were hooked. I don't remember what S ordered because the waitress denied my H any alcohol due to his temporary MA ID (which, by the way is a flimsy piece of paper. Like I previously mentioned, H and I recently moved from Connecticut and thus had to forfeit our licenses to get our Massachusetts licenses)... Even though we're well beyond our undergrad years and look 27+. Yeah, he was NOT happy. But I do understand that they must have a problem with underage drinking and must've been trying to cover their butts. I got water! Keke. H and S ended up ordering burgers (don't remember which) and both claimed their meats were somewhat dry. I ordered (vegetarian dishes a plenty!) mushroom ravioli... and it was subpar. I felt like it had no substance and was overstuffed with nothing but mushrooms (can't stuff 'em with spinach or something that can complement the mushroom? C'mon!). Overall, I thought the place was really aesthetically pleasing with a great array of beer. Food was kinda blah, but maybe the main cook was out? We'll come back (now that H's license has come in a full four weeks later)!

Tried the steak tips again today and they were tough, and the BBQ sauce they were marinated in wasn't very good. I think they changed the ingredients to make this dish. I need to find another place for good steak tips. The pastrami sandwich and nachos are good, though.

This is my least favorite *Works in the chain. It's unfortunate because it's now my local BW. The place is usually not crowded, which is sign number one. The servers work in teams, which should be great, but in reality you're just getting bad service from multiple people. Seriously, where do they disappear to in an empty restaurant? At least there is always parking. Because it's never crowded. Because it's not a very popular spot. Have I made my point? There is no lot, but plenty of street spots right out front. Don't forget to pay the meter! The food is still delicious, so at least there's that. And the beer is still cold, so that's good too. I do miss the city life though, this place just isn't up to their standard.
(3)Ryan A.
I really like this place! The staff have always been very friendly and helpful. It can get pretty busy after games and such. They don't carry any beers other than those they make, so be aware of that. With that said, their beers are good. They also have some duds, but the sampler will let you feel it out a bit. Food is great, parking is dicey, atmosphere is fantastic.
(4)Steve O.
Beer is their own which is heavy and not my favorite. Food is good. Good service. Great before Spinners game or Tsongas arena event.

Never been to a more disorganized, ruder place! Made a reservation weeks in advanced for a friend's surprise party. Arrive early as to not ruin the surprise and the hostess is no where to be found. Ask the bartender to get the hostess and still wait a good 15 minutes for her! She finally comes out and our table for 20 isnt even set up yet! We wait another 10-15 minutes for that, oh and did I mention it's a surprise party?! Food & service were ok, nothing special Then at the end of the night we were trying to take a few pictures and every server that walked by yelled at the top of their lungs "excuse me!" for us to move. They made us feel so unclmfortable and were extremely rude. It got to the point they bumped into us! Not my problem you sat us by the kitchen, Will never go back.

Went here on a Sunday afternoon recently and sat out on the patio. It wasn't busy, there was only a few other tables there when we sat. It was obvious from before we even ordered our server wanted us out of there. Possibly a shift change? Either way she pressured us to order right away and since I was meeting up with a friend I hadn't seen in a while we were enjoying our time. We ordered two salads, the hummus dip and the cheese plate. I got the Niçoise salad which was supposed to be grilled rare tuna, egg, greens, olives, green beans, and a cider vinaigrette. What I got was over cooked tuna and greens with a unbelievable amount of oil on the greens- nothing else. The cheese plate never came, and the first time our server came back to our table was to bring us the check- which we were going to stay and have another drink but I guess that wasn't an option. Over all the poor execution of the food and the horrible attitude of the server made us not want to come back. It would help their business to have people working there who have a little personality.

They were out of the 2 beers we specifically came to try.

I'm not a beer drinker but my brother & husband are - so we've grabbed dinner here a few times when we were visiting Lowell. They like the beer selection and I love the food! Yesterday, I had the maple glazed chicken with mashed potatoes and it was wonderful! I'm also a fan of the portobello mushroom sandwich with goat cheese. The prices are reasonable and the menu is varied enough to keep everyone in your party happy. The wait staff are attentive and arrive with refills of non-alcoholic drinks pretty quickly. (Which was greatly appreciated for our visit on Sunday because we'd just finished helping my brother move and were dehydrated.) Also, they evidently give beer works rewards club members $10 off during their birth month. Joining the rewards club is free and worth it if you're a frequent visitor.

First date night without the kids in over 4 months? Yes, please! We were looking for a laid back and casual place that was close by, and we are both fans of Boston Beer Works when in Boston for a Red Sox or Bruins game so decided to try out the Lowell location. While, like others, I noticed a slight beer smell upon entry, the way that it is set up you walk directly into the bar area, so that was kind of to be expected. Also - they do brew their beer on site, so I'm not sure how much of a role that would play...either way, we didn't really notice it when seated in the dining area. First the beer. I started with a flight of their IPA's, and my wife had a glass of an IPA as well. While I have had better beer, no beers I had were "bad", and I like that they have so much variety to choose from, all unique to the chain. Also, while part of me likes that the beer names change based on location, it is a little confusing trying to decipher on your own that the Fenway Pale Ale is in fact called the Lowell Pale Ale, and the Back Bay IPA is called the Dye House IPA. As far as food and service go, I would sum both up as adequate. Neither was anything worth to mention anything specific, either positive or negative. Our server was friendly and served our food on time, and our food (both ordered burgers) was good, but not great. I was planning on ordering an entree, but I found it to be very fish heavy...and I have a thing about ordering fish at a non-seafood specific restaurant. One big ding against them was that on their beer menu, they make a big deal about buying beer to take home. At the conclusion of dinner I asked our server about this, and she replied that they really don't have much available. Sure enough, when we walked by the cooler when leaving it looked like it had been ransacked earlier that day. Maybe it was just a timing thing and they usually have a better selection, but I found it to be odd.

Went here before a UMASS Lowell Riverhawks game. Said it would be a 10 minute wait for 2, ended up being 20. Once seated, we sat for about 15 minutes and NO ONE CAME OVER. Not one person. I know it was crowded, but did they seat us in a section that no one was working? We decided to eat at the game, and I wanted to let the manager know as we were leaving. Not so much to complain, but to just bring attention to the fact that no one approached us. I knew someone would be seated there after us. She didn't seem too concerned, but offered us a free app after the game. I just laughed and said, no thanks.

Tasty food and drink at a decent local brewpub. Comparable to brewpubs I've been to in Indianapolis, IN and Bethlehem, PA. There was a large beer selection and we had two flights (one IPA, one custom), and appreciated the variety they were brewing. Our server recommended the 1/2 plate of nachos, which were cheesy and delicious. Burgers were tasty, but the fiery fries (though good) were regular fries with Old Bay seasoning. We had brought our own growlers to fill, but were required to purchase LBW growlers, which must be a MA thing.
(4)D R.
Good beer and good burger. 6 of us and no one got a subpar meal. Oh one burger came out wrong (didn't have the onion marmalade) but before we knew it was wrong, the manager came out with the correct burger in a go box and said keep both and take one home with his apologies. I wish my order had been wrong! :) We had a few different beer samplers between us and of the 20 different draughts, you will find at least one beer you like.
(4)Bob C.
Go for the beer! Skip the restaurant! This is a convenient place to have a bite to eat and a brew before heading over to the Riverhawks hockey game however GO VERY EARLY if you don't want to miss any of the fun at the Tsongas arena as it gets VERY busy with large waits and things come to a crawl. (especially if you go in a large group). The beer is good and there is a large selection. You can get a sampler as well. The service was awful. We had to wait 30 minutes which was no problem. After ordering it took like almost 20 minutes just to get our drink order. Then our beer didn't come out with the soft drinks... another 5 minutes wait here. Then our meals took longer to receive and one in our party didn't get theres until another 5 minutes. Not enough cream for my friend who ordered coffee and this took longer to get that. Then during checkout it took forever to cash out. We had to ask for silverware and napkins. My wife got the 1/2 nachos. It was a good portion but it was very bland and mediocre at best. Now I don't like too spicy but this could of used some. I got the Charlestown burger. It was good. It could of came with some more fries though. At $12 I expected something a little more tasty. I think I will try Cobblestones or somewhere else before the game next time.
(2)Deneva H.
Great food but terrible service & management! They were understaffed, knowing there was a huge conference going on. Waited an hour to be seated with open tables everywhere!! And then once seated, waited a long time and had to go tell manager that we had not been helped yet.

I used to frequent this place a lot more when I was able to use my beerworks card because they'd give you $10 a month off your bill if you spent $20 or more. However, service isn't all that great-- there was one instance where this waiter was scared of my group because he messed up our orders and he charged our cards incorrectly after we pretty much broke it down for him- maybe it was an overwhelming night for him, I don't know. The food is okay. But they do have Happy Hour apps, especially the platter which only goes for $20 and can feed 3-4 people. But if you're not here for food, definitely the beer. My go-to is the Blueberry Beer (they throw in a good amount of blueberries in there, pitchers and pitchers of it and when it's Summer, I like to try the Watermelon Ale (with a slice on watermelon included). If you just want to sit at the bar and just get drinks, you don't have to worry about the service.
(3)Zac D.
A lot of great beer (frequently changing) and an awesome atmosphere especially for a hockey game night. I live in the area and this place is my go to. Lastly, I think the food is great above average pub food.
(5)Lesley S.
Worst service ever! Party of seven and waiter took our drink orders one at a time. Ignored us when we tried to order our dinner. Finally ordered our meal after he took one order for food then disappeared for twenty minutes. Then he brought out our food with no cutlery disappeared again before we could request cutlery. Waited again. Just a total fiasco! Brought it to the managers attention but too little too late. Place was completely empty and a handful of tables filled outside on the patio. No excuse for the total and incredible lack of service. Be warned. Don't waste your time or money at this location.
(1)Cassandra M.
Lowell Beerworks is a mediocre place for beers and dinner. They're never busy when we go and we're always seated right away. The more times I go, and the more things I try I'm starting to realize that everything is heavy and nothing is "delicious". Service is fine and the beer selection is nice, but I've never had everyone in my party order beers that were all available. They often run out.
(3)Uncle A.
So this time I tried their (imperial) Double Pale ale and it was pretty good. Not knock-your-socks-off good but good. I sampled a few others and wasn't all that impressed. I had a salad, too, that had clearly been stored pre-made in a cooler as the dish it was in was painfully cold too the touch. No wonder the server brought it out on a tray. LOL. Salad was good. Small hunk of salmon on top was pretty puny but grilled nicely. Our waiter was excellent! I've only been in the bar, here, never the dining room. As far as the bar goes, I'd recommend it for any size gathering of friends. Comfortable and spacious. In warm weather, the adjoining outdoor patio is a nice space to hang in, too. And PLENTY of free parking across the street at Notini's, too.
(3)Jeanette B.
I actually never got to eat here but I am giving a low review because of the 5-10 minutes I spent in the building! I have worked in the food industry for 15 years and find it horrible when a place has several visible open tables but puts you on a 30 min wait! It was a Friday night before a Spinners game right down the street, get your crap together Lowell Beer Works! Don't under staff and make paying customers wait to eat on a Friday night when you have tons of open tables and wait staff standing around! There's too much competition these days! Your rude hostess didn't even try to explain why there was several open tables inside and outside yet had about 10 people on a wait list! Sorry but she let a $100 bill walk out the door and we went somewhere else! I told her as we were leaving that I think it was too bad that they had several open tables that weren't being sat! Hire more people or don't bother! After reading the other reviews I think it was probably our luck and I'm glad we left!
(1)Jason J.
Great menu.. Lunch or dinner Great choice of beers.. Bar seating is very nice.. Tables outside are great.. Service is A+
(5)Anne R.
One of the few places you can gather with a group of people after a concert, sports game, or late night event for a bite to eat when it's not the weekend (open 'til midnight most weeknights.)
(4)Cindy L.
I've been to Boston Beer Work and enjoyed the service and food. I can not say the same about the one in Lowell. I've been here a total of 3 times. I should have learned my lesson the first visit when I had to ask 2 different waiters for some silverware. Something I've NEVER seen before is how uneducated and unprofessional the staff is. First, I had asked my waitress if a certain beer was lite or not, she had no idea. We ordered the ham and shrimp Mac and cheese, and they served to us without ANY pasta. We informed our waitress and she apologized and I thought we would be getting what we ordered. She then proceeds about 15 mins later, with a bowl full of pasta. I had to POUR the pasta onto my dish and mix it. The last time I checked, if you make something wrong, you make a completely new one. It was just an awful experience.

The food was fine - just fine. Our whole purpose for going to this place was to get my girlfriend a Beer Float, their signature drink. My girlfriend asked for one if those with pumpkin beer and a water with lemon. The waitress made us show her where in the menu it was because she didn't believe it was a real item. It's actually on both the drink menu and the dessert menu. We got a water - no lemon - and our waitress told us they were out of pumpkin beer, so we asked for a lemon and for a chocolate beer float. Our waitress came back, empty handed, to tell us that they were out of chocolate beer. My girlfriend, now petty agitated, asked our waitress for a lemon and to forget about the float and we ordered our food. 40 minutes elapsed while we waited for our food, during which time the next table over amazingly also ordered a pumpkin beer float and their waitress told them that she'd have to serve the beer from a bottle since they were out of beer on draft. WHAT. Where was this option? ? That table overheard our outrage and we told them the story. They flagged down their waitress and she finally convinced our waitress to bring us a lemon. The place was too loud to bring a date. My last time there was a 10 months ago, so hopefully the waitress from hell has been fired.

Um, blueberry beer was divine. I'm so biased toward it but I did try a sampler. They didn't have all of their winter beers on tap yet which was a little strange that they were on the menu. I think they may have had them bottled and didn't want to open them for samplers. The Love stout was also really good. We ordered nachos to share and they were really good. Our server switched halfway through the meal (we were there late afternoon) but both were really nice.
(4)Matt C.
It's nice to have another restaurant in Lowell with an outdoor seating area. They do a good job at replacing their seasonal beers. The food is good and tasted fresh. There's a billboard next to the seating area outdoors that advertises live music. Unfortunately that location does not currently have live music. That is very disappointing. That would be an awesome place for live outdoor music
(5)Michael V.
Food portions keep shrinking and prices keep rising. Convenient but not the go to place anymore. Beer works seems to be footing the bill for their planned Somerville location by decreasing food quality. Beer is still great and no different from any other beer works location (80% of the beer is brewed and distributed from Lowell and renamed based on geographic location ::lame:: )The only place worth sitting is the bar. Word of advice... The only place worth sitting is at the bar and avoid the monthly food specials!
(3)Chanda P.
The food here is pricey and tastes all right for what it is. I come here if I feel like having a good drink with friends. The first time I was ever here I was impressed with what I had ordered, but every time after that has been kind of disappointing. Servers are normally very friendly though!
(3)Jon A.
I have been going here for the last four years. But last night was my last time for a while. There is a steady decline in this chain and it is not keeping up with the neighbors. Quick Overview: I have been going here for a while and they really learned to capitalize on the university students more than any other demographic it seems. As the university grew into its own over the last few years however unlike smaller tastier businesses this one did not change at all. The atmosphere is okay, good rooms decent for a large party. Loud however and a bit too antiseptic smelling for my taste. Outdoor seating is nice but overall the view of the parking lot is not that much to write home about. The mill setting around it is a saving grace however and can make it seem decent. The food is average. There was a time I would say it has better burgers than down the street, but fundamentally things have gone down hill over the last few years, meat has a low quality feel to it (or it is over cooked by their staff) and as a general rule the food has decent presentation for what it is. Their sandwiches are simple, and the composition could use a lot of work and sometimes the mixture of ingredients seems confused like they just made it up and said "eh someone will eat it". Their Beer selection is good, I don't mind most of their beers, but it does not hold its own against any of the pubs down the street. If you come here for just a beer, there are better sports bars that are not half as difficult to deal with when you put in an order. Which brings me to the waitstaff. They are rude, useless, unprofessional, poorly versed in what they are serving, and most unforgivable lazy. Every time (and we are working on 10-15 times) I have been in a group of 7 or more and tip is included the wait staff gives up. They bring food and that is about it. Don't expect refills (even on beer) complimentary or otherwise. they clearly let food sit in the window (when I get a burger and the bun is soggy to the point I can wring it out I will eat it but I am less than pleased). The final thing to note is they sucker you in using their beer works card. It looks attractive with $10 off your purchase of $20 or more but don't bother. I have had the card in my hand (having used it monthly since December) and they could not get it to work. Instead they charged me full price. Another time I took the card in and my ID and showed my server the email, again "I am sorry sir we don't have that account name" (regardless of the email confirmation of the credit on my account). The third time I finally asked for a manager and after 45 minutes of waiting and the response "I am sorry I can't help you right now we are a little busy" I have given up. TLDR; Don't bother go to one of the better restaurants in the center for a better meal at higher quality and waitstaff that tries.
(1)Tanya M.
Again, dined here a few more times and each time the experience was not great. Someone in my party would always have their meal made wrong - I just don't get it, it's pub food.
(2)William F.
They're all pretty much the same menu wise, but I definitely have a pecking order of beerworks. This is one of the better ones in my opinion since its in a cool old mill area in Lowell and you can sit outside. If you've never beer to a beerworks, the beer is hit or miss depending on the month since they change the specials all the time. The regulars are nothing special, but I have had a few spectacular monthly beers there (Imperial Pumpkin Stout was outstanding).
(3)Amy R.
The biggest downfall here was service. We showed up to a lobby packed full of people who hadn't even put their name in because the host was no where to be seen. When we finally were seated (even tho we saw plenty of people who came in after us get seated first), our waitress was over right away. We ordered two flights and the bacon and mashed potato spring rolls. The flights came out without the paper designating which beer was which. Our server explained that all the papers had beer spilled on them and said she'd be back. Our app came out really fast and it was just ok. We ordered a brew bano sandwich with fries and a hanover burger with chips. The sandwiches took forever. A runner brought us our food and asked if we needed anything else. We didn't have napkins, silverware or salt and pepper on our table (we should have asked when we had our app but it was finger food so no big deal). The runner said she'd be back and we never saw her again. 15 minutes go by and I flagged down someone who I don't even think was our server, who was very nice and came back in 30 seconds with everything we needed. The burger lacked salt, the chips were not house made, just cape cod. I thought i read house made somewhere.. guess not. We waited a lifetime to pay our bill as well. The server said they had an unexpected rush... at six on a Saturday night it should be expected. About a dozen tables were waiting to be bussed when we left and the lobby still had people waiting to be sat. The bathrooms were gross with overflowing trash. I didn't see anyone there at all who appeared to be a manager. Oh and parking sucks. Good luck with that. This is the type of place I'd love to frequent but after this experience, I wont be back.

Fun place to sit outside with friends in the summer. Consistently good beer, great selection & integrating seasonal brews. Food has been inconsistent over the few years we've been going - at times really good, the best of pub fare (I especially like the nachos with shredded beef) & at other time somewhat uninspired. (Change in management last year?) They always have themed monthly specials and you can hardly go wrong ordering from that menu - creative and satisfying
(4)Ken C.
Good choice for eating and drinking before a Lowell hockey game. Short walk from Tsongas arena. Nice outdoor eating area. Unfortunately the food is second rate as are most of the beers. I tried a sampler and they were 1 for 4. They should significantly reduce both the food and beer selections and focus on doing a few things well. The arena was terrific. They should build on Tue connection.
(3)Jarrod D.
Just needed to update my rating after not having been here for a while. The service is weird and awkward with multiple servers who don't communicate with one another. The food is pretty lackluster, more so than before even. The cooks put cold, slimy mushrooms that appeared to be pre-cooked and from a can or something onto my sandwich. That's the kind of quality they're working with here. Gross. As usual the beer is good and there's a good selection of different styles. I think I'm done coming here for dinner ever... but I'll still stop in for drinks and appetizers and to watch a game or something. They're good for that, but they really need to get on the ball if they want to be a decent restaurant.

Definitely came in today after a local race to find almost nobody in the restaurant and hoping for a quick bite to eat. Boy were we wrong. After waiting 10 minutes to find a hostess to ask if we could just sit anywhere, we found someone who put us next to a table that was full of the last party's leftovers. We were approached by a waitress who took our drinks, she subsequently disappeared after that. We ordered apps (they were out of one of them.. which is odd considering nobody was in the restaurant) so we settled on a few others. After overhearing one waitress apologize to the party next to us, we began to wonder why there was such a wait with no customers. 20 minutes go by, still no appetizers. Another waitress comes over and asks us if our order had been taken yet? Umm.. shouldn't you know that? Again she apologized saying they were "caught off guard and overwhelmed" at which point I told them if it's going to be just as long a wait for food we would go elsewhere. The waitress apologized and said she's get a manager to just charge us for the sodas we ordered? Nope. We got up and walked out as soon as she walked away. Sorry, but you don't deserve any of our money if you can't accurately and efficiently run a business on a slow Sunday. I'd hate to see how prime time runs in this place.

Service is not up to the price. The managers are snotty and the bartender crews are hit and miss (there are several females who are arrogant and aloof). The food is like the chef is trying to hard. How can someone f&8k up mac and cheese like they have???? The beer cheese stuff is nasty. Same stuff they use for the pretzels...did I mention nasty? It's a brewery that wants to be something it is unskilled and staffed to be. The new mixed drink menu was a relief (since the beers are going too deep into the IPA cesspool) - but the bar never has all the items necessary to make the drinks. Special order drinks? FORGET IT - will only make them melt down.
(2)Pam M.
We waited over 20 minutes before our server came and 45 minutes before drinks came, after we reminded our server.

My go to when I need to brush off the day. Craft beer at its finest courtesy of Brewmaster Rich. Menu changes by the month and leaves plenty to choose from. Wings are my go to with a 22 of Curley's stout. Can't go wrong with this hidden gem.

A great go-to place. You know that when you come here, something on the menu will appeal to you. The decor is clean, bright, and utilitarian (metal bar, metal bathroom stalls). Big bar with lots of TVs is great for watching sports. Why are the bartenders so grumpy? I don't know. They give you one word answers when you try to talk to them. Oh well. I'm not here to make friends either, I suppose. They do leave you alone though, and don't mind if you stay for a while. I think their portions could be bigger, since the prices are a little bit too high. The salmon salad is spinach and cooked noodles (think lo mein) with a 4-square-inch piece of salmon on top. The clam chowder is very thick one time, and very clammy the next time. The mud pie for dessert has 3 slices and is sooo good! Overall, food and drink are pretty good. Bill usually amounts to ~$40-50 for two people. There are usually parking spots on the street, or there is a lot across the street that is not in use at night.

Lunch on Tuesday of this week was horrible, the entire place smelled like a combination of bad fish and a wet carpet. The Brewbano sandwich was simultaneously greasy while the pork was almost too dry to swallow. The spinach salad my friend had was "meh" with a dressing that tasted like straight out of the jar kikoman hoisen sauce. Avoid this place!

We were traveling from out of town and our friends suggested this place. They love it. Service was in attentive and my order was way overcooked. Servers returned at dessert, so too late to fix anything.

There aren't many options around Lowell, so we have to settle for this chain brewery with a corporate mindset. The beer is OK, except when it shifts focus in the Spring/Summer to accommodate the Spinner game crowd asking for the "closest thing to Bud Light". They seem to carry about 5 or 6 variations on a theme at this time. The bartenders tend to be COMPLETELY uneducated about beer styles in general, and can't really even describe the beers on tap, which is something you might actually expect at a brewpub. Some of the bartenders act as though they are doing you favor by serving you, and don't look very happy working there.

Another beer works in the New England chain (also in Boston, Salem, Framingham, and Hingham) but this one is my favorite so far. The outdoor seating was beckoning me on a sunny and gorgeous day in the historic city of Lowell. We were told to seat ourselves out on the patio and grabbed a table in a shady section. I ordered a flight of beers and was disappointed that they were out of a few of the ones I was interested in, but none-the-less they still had a good few to choose from. We perused the menu and I was impressed with amount of healthier options they had on top of their typical burgers, sandwiches and fries. I ordered up the portobello sandwich with a side of sauteed green beans. The grilled portobello was delish and was garnished with herbed goat cheese and arugula. The green beans were also perfectly cooked and tasted fresh, which is always a plus. My husband also enjoyed his chicken sandwiched which was seasoned and grilled to perfection. The fries were pretty damn good too, so I definitely snagged a few from him. The beer was tasty as well. My favorite was their IPA but I also enjoyed their blueberry ale, which had real blueberries floating in it (also, always a plus). I always find that the Beer Works have solid brews, but this is the first one that the food really shined through. Our server was pretty good too and kept our water glasses full. I will definitely be back when I am in the area and the mood for some good and simple food and drink out on the fantastic patio.

Servers were nice, beer was good. Food was hit or miss- BBQ turkey tips were yummy but the seasonal butternut ravioli was odd. Mixed reviews at our table on the chowda; definitely thick, salty, good amount of seafood pieces. Decor is a little lackluster.

Right next to the (now rotting) Lowell Brewery, there is ample parking- even during the Bruins game 4 against the Penguins. It was busy, but not obnoxious and (probably because of the game) it was a 20's -40's crowd with a few families as well. The three different beers we ordered were a Nut Brown Ale which was yummy, a Watermelon Ale which is very refreshing and very watermelony, and the Apricot Saison which was good, but I'm not particularly a fan of saison's. One of the things I found interesting is that you have basically 3 waiters who help you out along the way and even the hostess offers help if need be. They were busy, but we didnt have to wait too long to get a second beer, although we did have to look for someone at one point. I got a the El Paso Chicken Salad which I thought was very yummy. The chicken was dry rubbed, not a spec of rubbery, and cooked perfectly to my liking. The mixed greens were crisp and the dressing wasnt loaded on and not over bearing. Would definitely suggest it. I tried my friends steak tips. While I thought the marinade was yummy, the steak itself was a bit chewy. It was cooked properly, just possibly not the greatest steak. My other friend got the pastrami sandwich. Although he would have preferred less cheese on it, he said the meet was great. I'll even go so far as to say the bathrooms were tidy and smelled more pleasant than most. Overall a very good dining experience.

Another short and sweet review. I've always been a fan of the beer selection at the Beerworks locations. That said, I'll continue to support them as a reasonable beer bar. Went in tonight to have dinner with my partner. Sat at the bar. The bartender at the time was attentive for the first 5 minutes. After that, it was impossible to get any attention -- I even wanted to order a beer, and after waving her down, she seemed put off. Ordered food...for a place that's a beer bar, I'd expect them to have certain staples done corectly. Fries were limp and unseasoned, and even the ketchup didn't seem quite right. The chicken that was in my sandwich was unseasoned, but then there was too much of the dressing. My partner's sausage plate was pretty average...I've bought other chicken apple sausage from the grocery store that was of comparable quality for a lot less money. I'd definitely go back, but only for the beer.

Thurs, 10.3.13, 6:30 res. party of ~20. Ordered scallops. Got rotten scallops. Actually rotten, stunk, confirmed by my fellow diners. Could not believe the chef would plate them, and the server would serve. We bused our own tables (to an empty table next to us since the place was vacant), because our plates sat ~15 min after eating. Unreal. Ordered the special Cask beer w/ rosemary, supposed to be served warm. was cold, no rosemary noticeable. we wondered if they served us something else. the knockwurst app special, sub par. dont go here.

Went to Lowell Beer Works with my boyfriend, and I must say I was extremely disappointed. The service was terrible, especially considering it was a slow night. The waiter never returned to our table after our food was delivered. Our drinks were empty and I needed ketchup for my fries, but the waiter didn't return until he finally reappeared and we waved him down for the check. The food wasn't bad, we shared the chowda and it was excellent. I had the haddock sandwich and it was pretty good with good fries. My boyfriend got the ribs which were pretty bad and didn't have a lot of meat. Overall, I probably wouldn't return due to the bad service.

I love this place. Lowell Beer Works, Boston Beer Works, any Beer Works is good! I've been here a few times with friends, and the service has always been great, the beer is great quality (and they brew it in house), and the staff is friendly. I hate seafood, but their shark is delicious, go figure. Try their Watermelon Ale in the summer, and if you can't decide which beer to choose of their extensive menu, you can get a sampler of several varieties for an affordable price. I always go for the Greek Salad with chicken here, or their Buffalo sandwich. But everything myself and my friends have had here is great, so you can't go wrong with their menu. It's a great place to start your evening downtown, to celebrate the Riverhawks winning a hockey game, or to just come by and catch up with friends.
(4)Mike A.
I love the beer selections here and that they give you so many size options. The food is always good I honestly haven't had a bad meal yet. The only reason I dropped from a five to a four star is because the service can be on and off at times, I've experienced okay service here and great service. I would definitely recokmend this place for a beer and a burger, espically there southwestern fried chicken sandwhich!!
(4)Kristine A.
I guess this Beer Works chain is growing. Not sure if it's for the better though. There was a group of us who went their after a work event & we had to pull table together in the bar area & still sat at different tables. The server we started w/ was not the same one we ended with. There was a period of where did she go, what happened & had to go get someone. Things seem to go array when it's not busy. But when I ask for a draft root beer & you tell me there isn't any (which makes me sad) yet you have all these different bottled choices, why aren't you telling me that? Doesn't make sense. Either way the service was not so great & telling people to look at the board for the beers is just lazy. Also, their menus are so dirty I couldn't even look at mine.
(2)L J.
ordered two beers and upon receiving our beers we did not see our waitress again. Asked the hostess twice for the bill and asked if we could pay at the bar, we could not pay at the bar and still had a wait for the bill. We were not there at peak time either. Disappointing service.

If only i had written a review two weeks ago! A group of six of us went after a UML game. The place was jammed. The nervous waiter took our order and the food came out relatively promptly. Only one thing was wrong, but given the crowd, that was ok. It was fixed promptly. I ordered a garden burger and sweet potato fries. It was delicious. Fast forward to this weekend, I take my daughter and order exactly the same meal I ordered the previous Friday (because it was so good). Food came out promptly, only it was a different burger, prepared differently with different toppings. This was a grocery-store brand Veg burger with sauteed mushrooms on top (didnt order them, dont eat them). I wanted the lettuce, tomato onion and cheese that was on the previous weeks' burger. Why was it different? I dont know, I didnt ask, I was already super unimpressed that they had changed burger patties on me to this store bought junk on my plate. My daughter ordered a burger with came out rare, and was ordered medium. All in all, I wont be going back to Beerworks for the food. As an aside, although I did not drink on either visit, the blueberry beer is very good here.

I can't believe this place has only averaged 3 stars. I lived in Lowell for over 7 years and never once had a bad experience. I would go a few times a month and even rented the private back room for my birthday. Their food is dynamite and their beers are even better. I'm always hesitant when I see expensive prices on beer menus, but these are well worth the money. Their beer and lunch/dinner specials are updated every month and always have a great selection. We just moved and the #1 thing we miss about Lowell is Beer Works.
(5)Peter H.
Good food, good beer, great beer variety, lousy service. I came on a Thursday evening with a friend during a Pats game. Bar was full, but only 8-10 tables had people. Had to seat myself. Waitress got us drinks and appetizers, but I finally had to ask her an hour later if we could order dinner. Good potato spring rolls and great Chop Chop salad. Good quality lettuce and fresh ingredients. If the service were better I'd give 4 stars.
(3)Matthew M.
Good beer but the food is just so so and they service could be a lot quicker but all in all it's worth the try also they could use some live music or DJ on Friday and Saturday Nights would Be Great
(3)Stephanie M.
Ill preface this by saying I don't dig chain restaurants. I will if a group decides it, but it is never my first choice for anything. That being said, I am a Beer Works fan. Yummy beers, decent food, and a chill atmosphere. Beer and food specials every month and signing up for their free rewards card gets you $10 to spend every month (my fiancé and I both have one so at least $20 off every bill) plus extra for points earned. I DIE for their El Paso chicken salad, swapped out with blackened salmon.. The toasted cumin dressing is so delicious. I don't like to eat the same thing over and over but i've had this salad at least the past 5 times I've been there. My fiancé usually goes for a chicken sandwich or a burger and is never disappointed. If you're looking for an easy casual night out, this is the spot.
(4)Steph G.
Part of the beer works chain. Hummus and pizza very good. The salad with the cumin dressing was very good but it was pretty spicy. Had a tasty beer flight there as well!
(3)Brian H.
First visit. Tried the Turkey Tips and they were very good. Substituted the jasmine rice with chili fries because the reviews spoke highly of the fries and I always like to taste the chili at new spots. Both the hand cut fries and the chili were tasty. The meal also came with broccoli which was barely steamed and cold before it arrived at the table. The accompanying cornbread had great flavor was very hard through about 50% of the piece. Also tried the "chowda" which was very thick (if you like that) and had an ample amount of potatoes but lacked a bit in the clam department. The wait staff was very friendly and helpful and we had multiple servers visit our table to bring/re-fill drinks, take our order, deliver food, and handle the check... very good teamwork and timely service! While the hallway leading to the bathroom and the bathroom door was very interesting and had a nice look, the bathroom itself was a mess.

Beer Works is nothing great, but it's okay if you have limited options. The mister and I went up to Tyngsboro to pick berries today and it was HOT. I mean, so hot that we could feel the sweat pouring down our backs in the fields. When we got done, we were in need of some cold beverages and some sustenance. He had been wanting to check out the newest Beer Works location to see if 1) it had changed at all since its mediocre roots and 2) it differed from any of the other Beer Works locations. So we headed there and got ourselves a booth. Unfortunately for him, they were out of most of the beers he was interested in trying, so he was stuck with some of the less flavorful varieties. He was not impressed with the beers. But the iced tea was flavorful and good, which made me happy. Food was actually pretty good. I ordered a pizza with kalamata olives, mushrooms, and jalapenos and he went for the veggie burger. When the pizza arrived, I was slightly disappointed that it was topped with regular black olives, instead of kalamata (why have both kinds as options on the menu if you're not going to be vigilant in making sure the right ones get on the pizza??). But the pizza itself was good. He enjoyed the veggie burger, which had a mustardy sauce of some type. Many of the dishes can be made vegetarian, which is nice too. Service was a bit forced, but nice enough. Lowell doesn't have all that many decent food options in that particular area, so I guess I would go back if I was visiting someone at UML and we wanted to get some grub without driving anywhere. But I certainly wouldn't go out of the way for it.
(3)Mel G.
The burgers here are amazing. Steak fries, too. The service was really nice and overall a chill place to get together with your friends and relax.
(4)Kim M.
Interesting beers on tap and they were all good, though nothing stood out. We got the Shark appetizer and it was amazing. The service was very friendly.
(4)Caitlin P.
The beer here is awesome but the food is really hit or miss. I have had things that were really overcooked and REALLY salty. Not just a one time thing either. They run out of certain beers a lot too. BUT. I still love it. When it's a "hit" kinda meal... it is excellent. And their beer is so delicious. I also love their monthly menus and their member card is really generous. It seems like every time I dine there I get at least 10 bucks off my meal.
(4)Kay G.
Beerworks is a good go to option when you just want straightforward American food and tasty beers. I would not advise someone to go to Beerworks if they're looking for a culinary adventure (don't let those monthly food specials fool you)....and I'd be somewhat mystified by anyone who thinks that a place named Beerworks is going to offer a chichi experience. Personal faves: -boneless buffalo wings -any of the burgers with sourcream and chive fries -chinese chicken salad , beer works chop chop salad -watermelon and blueberry ales (if you go for the fruity thing) -love the monthly change up though for the beers The potato bacon spring rolls are tasty and absurdly filling. Glad I tried them...not sure I'd ever attempt that again. They also have a good rewards program so if you like the joint...you should sign-up.
(4)Jenny W.
We came here yesterday after I finished the Baystate Marathon and I wanted food and beer ASAP! We were quickly seated but there was a little delay for our waitress to come over due to the table next to us being huge pains and making the waitress split up their bill a million different ways. When our waitress came over she apologized and took our food and drink order. Our drinks came out in seconds and it wasn't more than 10 minutes before all our food was out as well. The boneless buffalo chicken wings, sandwiches, and salad were all fabulous and everyone cleaned their plates! Great service, good food, and a good value!
(4)Daina E.
If you are after tasty cold beer, fried pickles, and the friendliest staff in town, Lowell Beerworks will put a smile on your face. My husband and I have been here several times (easy walking distance from our house) and it never disappoints...I can't really speak for offerings outside of the bar food realm, but I just don't get why you would go to a place called "Beerworks" and order pizza or "fine dining" style food. It's a pub for crying out loud. They do a hell of a job on things like onion rings and succulent, juicy burgers (that can easily feed 2), and it's a nice laid back environment to hang out and watch a football game. If you are going more than once, get the "VIP" card - it's free and they inexplicably give you lots of free money.
(5)D W.
Every time I go to this restaurant, there is a problem. Tonight: 1) The server took about 10-15 mn to get to our table; 2) My husband was brought the wrong size beer ; 3) Our server did not put in our appetizer order (Pretzel Nuggets), so we never got it; 4) My dinner was missing 2 side dishes; 5) My daughter's meal was brought out on a STEAMING hot plate and we had to transfer her meal to another one; 6) We were brought the wrong check. I swear that the only reason why we ever come back here, after so many mishaps, is that it's close & it has a decent children's menu for our daughter. I guess the beers are good, but the food is so inconsistent. The service is AWFUL here. I can't even remember how many times we were asked "Have you been to Beer Works before?" when we were REGULAR customers a few years ago. I even wrote a letter to the manager & though I did get a response, it's obvious that nothing has changed. Very disappointing :-(

************WARNING WARNING WARNING*************** When you are at Beerworks, and the Bull is out for the bull riding. DO NOT ( I REPEAT) DO NOT sit near it. The smell was sooooo horrible. When we got home we smelled like a foot. In saying the worst, that me also say the wait staff has always been nice. It is a good bar to play pool or people watch. The food is bar food...not top quality, but good with a beer. Did I tell you that you smell like a foot if you sit near the bull riding section. Seriously, if you don't believe me then it is your own stinky night.

Just okay - Service is spotty and slow. It wasn't particularly busy when we went, but still we were told there was a 20 min wait. When we decided to leave instead, suddenly they could seat us immediately. Then a server tried to give us sandwiches before we even ordered, and when our waiter finally arrived, he got the drink order (for two people!) messed up! Food is bland-ish pub fare, except for the specials, which are tasty, but a little more pricey. I've learned to avoid the salads and pasta dishes, which are uniformly tasteless. Stick with the burgers and barbecue entrees. As a fan of a tasty beer, now and again, I do enjoy the summer Watermelon Ale and Hefeweizen.

I wasn't completely wowed when I dined here a couple of weeks ago. I came here with my Dad and boyfriend after a Pats loss, so maybe I was just in a bad mood, lol. We started with the roasted beer nuts, which were nice and hot, but the seasoning wasn't very good and it didn't really stick to the nuts. Seemed like it needed some kind of binding to make it stick, some kind of oil, maybe. Some of the nuts were burnt and bitter tasting, too. I knew I should have gotten the fried pickles! My boyfriend and I split a steak tip dinner, and my Dad got the steak tips as well. The sauce they came in was actually pretty good, and the steak tips came out just as we had ordered them--medium rare. The steamed green beans were actually amazing, they were prepared perfectly and were really fresh. The mashed potatoes were another story, nothing special about these at all. They just had a funny taste about them...tasted like they came from a cafeteria. The service wasn't terrible but nothing to rave about. It was a Sunday night, the restaurant wasn't too full. Took us a while to get another set of silverware, as there was only two on the table when we were seated, and unfortunately we didn't notice until the food arrived. Took our server a while to check on us, which I was waiting for so I could order another drink, and also took a while to get the check and settle the bill. All in all, it was just O.K.

The food here is *underrated. The beers here are *overrated. For apps, you really can't go wrong. Any type of fry is fantastic; my favorite being that of the spicy variety. Nachos are piled high [if you only have 2 people, get a HALF order], and the 9-alarm wings are very tasty [ask for them well baked]. For entrees, the pesto-chicken sandwich with mozzarella is known as the "Green Monster Sandwich", and one of my staples. The steak tips complete with green beans and creamy mashed taters are also very good. As for the beer, when they actually have them in stock, are good. Unfortunately, there's a lot of BAD micro-brews out there, that the majority of patrons flock to the same 3 or 4 seasonals, in turn, running out...a lot. Overall, Beer Works is a nice solid hangout with great outdoor seating, a pretty nice bar and dining room. The service is a tad inconsistent, but overall pretty good. The nice kicker is the VIP card which recharges $10 every month. Worth a trip.
(4)Jackson R.
I don't understand this place unless they just don't care which I suspect is the case. I've been here twice when the service was terrible. Other times, the service was ok. Some times the beer is good, other times not; the same can be said of their food. It would be great if they had the game on for Sundays with the volume turned up as opposed to the music playing. I'm sure this place would be hopping even with flat beer. Bottom line - there are better places.
(2)Ken S.
Love the blueberry beer and Chicken sandwiches. Great bar staff too. If you just want drinks and appetizers at the bar, they have some great stuff like their spring rolls, nachos (get the smaller size) and their sweet potato fries.
(4)Heather O.
True Story Waitress #1: "Did you order fries?" J.M. "Yes but only like 2 minutes ago from Waitress #2." Waitress #1: "Just take them. It works out that way" J.M. eats fries for about 5 minutes. Waitress #2 comes back with a plate of fries. Waitress #2: "These are your fries not those (indiciating to basket of fries that J.M. is eating from)" J.M.: "Oh, well Waitress #1 said to just take them." Waitress #2: "But they're for another table. These are your fries." J.M. : "But I've already started eating them." Waitress #2: "But they are for those KIDS over there. So can I take them?" J.M.: "Um. Okay." Waitress #2 gives basket of cold half eaten fries to unsuspecting family of five who begins to devour them. J.M. to rest of table: "Did that just happen?"
(2)Brendan C.
Three words: Sweet. Potato. Fries. Oh man I would come here just for those. Aside from my near obsession with the fries this place also ranks high for good selection of beers, although they seem to run out of my favorite (Nut Brown) all too regularly. The rest of the food is good, standard bar food/american foo, think the 99 with employees who aren't depressing. As far as a good bite to eat in Lowell goes, Beer Works is one of my faves.
(4)Alysha C.
Not too shabby. Had great chili cheese fries, a good burger, good turkey tips and a great beer--telltale dark ale. My food was Luke warm. Rice was cold. Waited a while for lunch even though it was near empty. It's an ok place to eat.
(3)Alison C.
Beer, beer, beer. Meat, meat, meat. That's the kind of place this is. And sometimes, that's exactly what you want. I am not a beer person. I would buy a cheapo bottle of crap wine over a six-pack any day of the week. Yet, I appreciate beer, and trying beers that don't include words like "Budweiser" in the label. Our waitress was quite impressive. She knew everything about everything when it came to beer, and you could tell that the staff studies the menu hardcore. My first and favorite beer was the Merrimack something-or-other. It was light with a nice tang to it. I also tried the Sho-shanna-whatsitcalled (I'm really bad at this game, can you tell?). Didn't like it as much, tasted like warm water. The nachos were sub-par, but then I got a Chicken Penne dish (lunch-sized) that was perfectly done. Had a really light garlic and lemon sauce and mushrooms, my favorite, and the portion size was great. Lowell Beer Works is a cool place for groups, beer-drinkers, and people who want to watch the game and eat bar food. It was also cool that the brewery is connected to the restaurant and you can look over and see all the giant tanks and machines that produce the beer. Maybe beer will be my new obsessh? I'll stick with my bottle-of-Merlot-a-night habit but nonetheless I had a pleasant enough experience at Lowell Beer Works today.
(3)Kathleen M.
I've been to the salem one and this one twice. Both times I've gone to this one they have somehow messed up my order even if it's just a beer. Not sure how it's that hard to remember a beer order. This last time they tried to bring us and the surrounding tables someone else's beer order four times......seriously?? It took forever to get our beer but the waitress was friendly. Fried pickles were awesome again! It's an alright place.
(3)Mad C.
Beer was ok, a bit below the normal beer works standards. Jalapeno poppers were not spicy at all, watery, and I was really disappointed because I love them normally. We were the only people there for lunch, but somehow they still gave me a completely rare burger...I mean on-off the grill in 2 seconds rare...gross! Lost my appetite, so I declined any offers for a free dessert or soup (won't even comp my beer?). Also had to send back soda since the mixture was way off. Other people I was with did love the chili. I think they are just off their game here compared to the other locations. I don't think we will be back for a while, and if we do go I am staying away from anything that needs to be cooked to prevent illness. +1 star for the sweet potato fries, which are always good.
(2)Tom P.
It's great having a micro-brewery here in Lowell, but again, as I've said many times, the rating is a little skewed just because there's nothing else nearby to compare it to. If you're sick of drinking run-of-the-mill beers like Coors and Bud, etc., try the local selection at Beer Works. There's a brew for anyone's taste. The Nut Brown is, IMO, the tastiest all-around beer they carry. Food is REALLY good here, ESPECIALLY by Lowell's standards. Awesome pizza, sweet potato fries, and the ribs are better than Village Smokehouse downtown, who supposedly "specializes" in ribs. The Brewery Exchange, next door, looks like part of the same place, but I avoid that side. It's like a huge frat party all the time. If you like that sort of thing, it's probably heaven for you. Inside Beer Works, though the ambience and decor is non-existent, you can have a conversation even with a table of 12 because it's not too loud. The have a bar area as well, but it's rather stale like a freshly painted office in a cubicle-stuffed business building. Blah. Rather pricey for Lowell, but at this place you really do get what you pay for. VERY attentive team of servers, friendly and they were all running each other's food, which I always think is a nice touch. Can't decide on a beer? Keep ordering samplers, and you get little 4-oz glasses of 4 different beers in a little tray. You can actually throw these down like shots if you want to wash away the memories of why you ever moved to Lowell in the first place. Just kidding... ...or am I? ;) EDIT: be wary of the burgers. they are so thick, it's pretty much impossible to get one that's well-done. sometime too much of a good thing becomes gross.

I miss the old Brewery...

Love it! Great atmosphere. Chill, great music. GREAT. Thanks for coming to Lowell. Bartenders are awesome.... Amy rocks! Paul is awesome and Maryann rules! We will keep coming back because the staff is always on top of everything. Welcomed us back after only two visits makes it vert personable. Awesome beer and definitely just a good place all around. Boston atmosphere without the hassle. Kudos Lowell Beerworks. Will recommend to anyone. :)

Gravy Fries. Sour Cream & Chive fries. Fiery Fries. Chili Fries. Holy batman, there's a lot of fries here. And beer-battered onion rings, mounds of nachos, messy hamburgers. This is a pub, so lots of junk food thrives in between the microbrewery. They have an extensive list--it probably took me seven minutes to finally figure out what I really wanted. FYI, the live band sucked. Looked like a bunch of high school hooligans trying to make it happen. We had a table out on the outside patio and then requested the waitress to move us inside. Please lady, can I enjoy my cheese fries in peace?

If you are in the mood for good/locally made beer this is a great place to go!! They have great staffers and a really great patio when it is nice outside! I personally try not to eat hamburgers/frieds/fried foods in general very often but they have a GOOD hummus plate that is yummy. I have not had their salads but I hear they good as well! THE BEST PART OF BEER WORKS is their beer works card...you heard me! Every month they just add a 10 dollar credit to your beer works card to come in and get 10 dollars off your next purchase. I have never been to a place that does this....BUT IT ROCKS!!! Lowell Beerworks is great for a night out with some friends for some great beer and a great atmosphere to match!!

As I read Keith Y's review I'm having dejavu...we too were ignored because no one was standing at the hostess desk and then after we were sat (at a dirty table), we had some of the worst service I've had in a restaurant in recent memory. I'm a huge fan of Beer Works food and beer from going to the one in Boston, but even the normally tasty blueberry beer and chicken sandwich with bacon could not save this experience. The waiter pretty much forgot about us and had many, many excuses which doesn't help when you're hungry. If you can stand the spotty service, don't be afraid to pig out on the yummy sweet potato fries with different dipping sauces. The portions overall are generous and the for the money the price is right on.

Beerworks is one of my favorites when in Lowell to attend theatre productions at the MRT. They have recently revamped their menu to emphasize more freshly prepared dishes. The new Specialty Sandwiches we tried are real winners: the Caprese, the Salmon Burger and the BLACK & GOLD PASTRAMI. The down-side of the new menu is that they eliminated some of our old stand-by comfort foods such as the Turkey Tips and the Meatloaf. But there is still enough on the menu to please most tastes. Their monthly theme specials are generally creatively prepared and excellent; though some are a bit pricey, the portion sizes are generally large, so sharing an entree, supplemented with a starter or two (and maybe dessert) can make for a satisfying meal for two. I don't have their beer very often, being the designated driver for our group, but their blueberry ale is quite good. I am looking forward to a beer-tasting event there in the near future, so will have more experience with their beers then.

A great restaurant, and their beer selection is excellent. The food is very good, and they have a handful of vegetarian meals, which is often difficult to find on regular pub menus. I'm a fan!

For what it is this place is great. The food is a step above other casual dining places in the area and their beer is great. Each of the brewers at the different beerworks brews a set menu of beers but add their personality to their beers so each beerworks has a couple different beers. I've had a couple top notch beers over the years at Lowell beerworks.

I'm not a big beer person but I'm slowly learning to like it. Met some friends here for St. Patty's day and ate some food. It wasn't bad. I had the Blueberry Ale which I did like. Since it's around the corner from where I live, my husband and I will probably be back for some more drinks.

excellent. i came here with the boy and our mutual friend right before seeing Wilco at lelacheur park. hey, girls that don't like beer: have no qualms about coming here! there are three kinds of fruity, girly beers here: watermelon, blueberry, and cherry. I wasn't particularly impressed with the blueberry, but the watermelon beer tastes JUST like the fruit, and is served with a baby wedge of watermelon as well. the cherry beer had a delicious, tart tang to it. the food here was all right -- nothing fancy that will send you to ecstatic culinary convulsions, but still, simple and tasty. My friend got the artichoke and chicken pizza, which was delicious. The boy and I split spinach and artichoke dip with tortilla chips, which was all right, too. Service was quite good, despite the fact that the place was overflowing with people, as we went right before a large concert. The bartender was a sweetheart and filled drink orders really fast, although we did have to stand on our tippy-toes on the bar stool footrest to get his attention.

This place is a hidden gem in Lowell. I had heard about, but we could never find it. The other day we got determined! We finally found it and were glad we did. We decided to risk sitting outside despite the coming rain and eventually got caught in. The poor staff had to lock up all the patio furniture in the pouring rain, but it looked like they were having fun! Great place to go for very good bar food and service! Only thing I thought was a bit odd was they seemed to be out of a lot of beers? Didn't bother me because I wanted the light beer and they had that one.

This place is the largest disappointment. When I moved to Lowell I was glad to know there was a bar type atmosphere with what I anticipated to be a good beer selection and pub fare. Boy was I wrong. The food is awful-at best. I didn't know you could screw up plain pizza but apparently they can. The only thing this place has going for them are the fries. The service is absolutely awful. We even tried sitting at the bar to see if we'd get better/faster service and we didn't. They never have any beers that I like on tap-which is unfortunate for those of us who enjoy a good Hefeweizen or Belgian ale...that just seems like it should be a standard option. Do not waste your time unless you're going on a Friday or Saturday night which they apparently have more of a club like feel for.

I used to hang out here, another lifetime ago.... - But I did manage to go here this past weekend. I see they've added that cool little porch area with the 3-sided door thingy - I don't know what you call it - look at the pics here and you'll see what I mean. Anyhow this place is cool and big - so if you're looking just to sit at a bar and talk to someone or dance up on the second floor or shoot pool on the third, you'll be happy either way. I was at the bar just inside that cool main entrance. It's set up like the Boston Beer Works near North Station, so if you've ever been to that place, you'll know what this one is like. The Lowell Beer Works is located in this old industrial part of town - well it's not industrial NOW, but it was in the 40s, and there's row upon row of those old 5-story brick buildings you know were used to tan hides or make sewing needles or car parts back in the 30s-40s. So the area has that kind of charm to it. - There's no parking here. I had to park pretty far away. - The beer is great - I do love that blueberry beer even if I hate the blueberries floating in it. - We asked for chips and salsa and got these stale chips and definitely not enough salsa for 2 people. That was a big of a drag. - But other than that it's still a good place to hang out due to the different things and areas that are going on inside. You'll like it.

Being sat, no problem...getting your order and food in a timely matter, not bad! Getting your bill and having it picked up so you can leave-terrible! I've been to this location a handful of times and the service keeps going downhill. Last night my husband told the server that his chicken was undercooked and his response was, "next time you should tell me sooner so I can get you another one." My husband was in the bathroom throwing up, he didn't realize it was bad until he ate it! Then server proceeded to drop off the bill and walk by our table at least five times and not pick it up! We probably would've sucked it up with the whole chicken thing but do to the inattention of the staff we went up to the hostess to try and pay our bill....which was followed with another 4-5 minute wait where the manager was supposed to come out but never did and we had to literally tell the server to take the chicken off the bill. Not your best Beerworks but thank you for showing my husband the reasons why I hate going to you...now he will never suggest it again!

This was the first stop on a day trip outside of Boston. We wanted to drive through and see Lowell. We were going to try the Egg Roll Cafe, but it was closed either because it was Monday or Columbus Day, I'm not sure which one. We rolled in here at around 11 am and the place was very quiet. It was almost empty. The hostess said it was because they had just opened, but the entire town of Lowell seemed to be a ghost town yesterday morning. Kind of strange. Parking was easily accessible to the beer works, as they share a parking lot with a warehouse across the street. There was a great view of the actual brewing equipment through large glass windows in the restaurant. The look and feel is pretty much the same as the locations in Boston. We had a nice sampler of the all the fall seasonal beers which included the pumpkinfest, centennial ale, red october, and octoberfest. I really enjoyed the red october, which was a red ale, malty in flavor. It is also a GABF gold medal winner. To eat, I had the half sandwich, half salad. The sandwich was steak tips with cheese and onions. Very good.

I am not a huge beer fan, but when I do drink it, I prefer it on tap, so Beerworks is good for me. I tried something called Cherry Bomb most recently, it was almost pink. Very tasty. I've noticed this place is not super busy, even on Saturday nights, unless there is a baseball or hockey game at the nearby venues. Last time we saw a hockey game in Lowell, we went here first and it was quite crowded with families wearing team jerseys. I am used to Salem Beer Works, which is always crowded, so a crowd doesn't deter me from eating here. I love Beer Works nachos, so those are in always in order. Then I feel like I need something fried to complete my nachos and beer experience, so I usually end up with fish and chips or fried fish of some kind. They do have some vegetarian menu options that sound good, but I'm never in the mood for pasta or anything like that when I go there. Still, you have options, which is always nice. The one kind of bummer thing is that you have the menu at the table which has a list of beers, but almost every time I've been there, the server has his/her own list of what's actually available that day. I think it would be easier to just take the beer menus away and have the server tell you what's on tap if the lists are going to be that different. Again, I'm not so into beer that I get my heart set on something particular and then pout like a baby if I have to pick something else. Just sayin'.

Awesome food, fresh microbrews. Excellent knowledgable service.

My rating is definitely an average. If you can hit the Beerworks when they have a full bee menu, it's superb! HOWEVER, finding that magic time is nearly impossible. I truly haven't been to the place more than one when I wasn't disappointed because they were out of one of the brews I was looking forward to. That aside, it's a fun place. Try something different: order up a rack of samplers if they have what you're looking for. Maybe even try the fried pickles (no kidding: weird but tasty). Live a little! (and hope they're not out of....)

My wife and I have become somewhat regulars here visiting about once a week, I'll try and fill you in on the good and bad. Beer: If you like Bud, Coors or Miller Lite, your in the wrong place. Yes they do have a beer that is a reasonable facsimile of the lighter beers but you may be disappointed that you are paying $4-$5 a beer. Their darker beers are their specialty and my favorites, most notably the regular Nut Brown, and the Irish Stout. Seasonal beers roll through once a month, some of them are quite good such as the ESB, Scotch Ale, and the Belgian Quad. Note that a given beer may not actually be brewed at your location as each BeerWorks location brews select brews and then kegs are exchanged with the other locations. I have detected differences in batches and individual kegs, this is to be somewhat expected in the microbrew industry as things aren't perfectly regimented like they are in world of commercial brewing. Food: There are somethings that you can get here every time and they will always be good. You can rely on the tasty bar food menu items to fill you up for short money, Wings, Nacho's (only get a 1/2 order for 2 people), and succulent thick juicy hamburgers. Stay away from the double burger (Downtown Crossing) unless you are trying to imitate Adam from Man vs Food, that thing is ridiculous. Some other items can be hit or miss, especially the Ribs. The ribs can be amazing one day but they can also be tough and chewy the next, so if you are going to order these look around the restaurant to see if anyone else has a plate and reserve judgement based on their consumption. If you see someone battling try to slice them with a steak knife as the plate attempts to escape from the table, order something else, try again another day. Some of the seasonal food can be really good too, or it can be a big swing and a miss. Ask for feedback from the waitstaff, they have probably tried it and got feedback from customers. A word of warning on food temperature for steak and burgers, they pretty routinely overcook by one degree. If you want medium, order medium rare. Avoid dessert unless there is something on the monthly special that sounds really good, things like cake are brought in, can sit for days, and are often stale. For dessert your best bet is a another beer, a nice sipping beer like Curly's Irish Stout. Service: Usually the table service is very attentive, but there are a lot of different waitstaff and they aren't all on par with the seasoned veterans. I always give the attentive waitstaff a good tip to let them know they are appreciated. If you want really quick service sit right at the bar, Amy and Tiny can have a beer in front of you in seconds, you can order food there too. Bonus: Sign up for the BeerWorks rewards card. This will net you a $10 discount every month (up to 50%), an extra $10 on the month of your birthday. Accumulate 500 points and you score an extra $25 discount (up to 50%) to use any time. Just remember to tip based on the original bill, not the discounted one. Parking: There is street parking and free parking in the lot directly across the street (Nontini & Sons) after hours. On days when there is a Lowell Spinners game or an event at the arena parking gets tight. Summary: As long as they keep trying new things to keep the menu and beers interesting I will keep going back. Well priced eats and quality, creative beers.

I went on Memorial Day (5/25) and had a great time. I had never been before and we were looking for light food and an afternoon brew and it was such a nice day we wanted to be outside. We live in Lowell, that leaves Panera bread (lovely view of the parking lot) or the Beer Works. We went, had a sampler of the beer and split a few apps. Nothing like it that I know of close to home and even if there was, this was pretty good. Food was good, large portions; it wasn't write home good but for the price, excellent value. I will be back this summer, probably more times then I'd care to admit online. Oh, I do have to add that the afternoon experience may not have been as positive for the couple that got an entire beer spilled on them. I didn't see, so I'm not sure if it was the waitress or the patron but they were soaked, they'd gasp at my rating.

The food is pretty good and the beers are great. I loved their Imperial Stout that they just had on for February. The service has been between excellent and Ok, but the best I've had compared to the Salem and Boston (Fenway) Beer Works.

Beerworks!!....well a true disapointment. Beer is great and the tasting tray is great. Food- was horrible i received spinach dip that was not hot and looked like it was plated by a lunch lady in elementry school. wings (9 alarm) were good but not great. I also had the mako shark skewers that were disgusting.. i could not even finish one skewer, what ever was in the sauce was horrible and my girlfriend lost her appitite for her meal. Service, our server was very unattentive and i had to actually leaver the table to look for her to request ketchup. i waited 20 min just to pay a bill with no beverages and after it was paid she had lost my credit card. She had told me sorry but she just had sugery and could not bend over to look for it! eventually she found in where the to-go container were kept in the back server station for anyone to pick up. all in all this was my first and last experience at this establishment. sorry beerworks just stick to brewing beer.

Good place to relax and have a few drinks with friends during the summer. Sit out on the patio and they open up the doors when the band plays so you can experience the music either inside or out.
(5)Marko M.
Beer is good. Food is ok as well. Anything better than Brewery Exchange upstairs and the snarly wait staff and stale food.
(3)Molly L.
Since this is walking distance from our house, we are here at least once a week. My husband and I always sit at the bar to watch a game, drink some beers & eat some bar snacks. We LOVE the staff! We recommend the sweet potato fries, the burgers and the 9 alarm wings! The watermelon beer in the summer is SO refreshing but January is our favorite month because it's Belgian beer month!

This is food review only: I was grateful when Beerworks decided to take over the first floor of the brewery. We even signed up for the VIP cards they offer free of charge and add $$ to it every month. Food has gotten increasingly better. The VIP card for $10 a month works and we eat there once a month. Can usually always get a table and its perfect before UML hockey or Spinners.
