Had we gone here earlier in the trip we would be sure to have gone at least a 2nd time. We got there at about 8:30 pm and had to wait a good 20 min. before getting seated, which isn't too bad, but the place is big so I was surprised. We got seated and our waitress was very friendly and helpful. I asked what was on tap and she promptly had a list to show me, then was able to answer the questions I had about a couple of the beers. I chose the Peek White Ale. She described it as Guinness-like in body and I think it was a bit flatter than I imagined, but it was still a good choice, flavorwise. My daughter twisted my arm for a Shirley Temple and it was sweet grossness, and she was happy. We split the Buff Orpington wings and wow, they were awesome! Super-crispy and sweet, a bit spicy and had a nice curry, ginger, garlic flavor. I also had the Roasted Butternut Squash Quesadilla with jalapeno lime sauce (not hot) and daughter had fish and chips. The quesadilla had great flavor and creaminess. I'd say the only thing that would be better is actually less cheese, though that's just me, and a bit crispier on the bottom because it was a little moist (I wouldn't say soggy). The fish looked very good but she had a few bites and opted to have more wings instead. The coleslaw looked really good but the fries looked like typical fries. We did have dessert - the chocolate mousse tower. It was a good size - a cylinder about 2" x 3". The layer of whipped cream was almost frozen and I'm not sure that was on purpose or not, but it probably would have been better if it were left out a little longer. Not that we were going to wait to eat it! I thought the service was great. Sara, our server, was happy to offer suggestions and she was on the money. It was so late when we got there, we said the first available table, but it may have been nice to eat outside, since the weather was perfect. The atmosphere was quite fun and was a mix of mostly twenty-somethings and then smaller tables of older folks.

We came as a group of 8. Asked waitress for recommendation b/t 2 dishes, she hadn't tried either of them. Hmmm. Our friends and i rated our dishes as the following: Ribs =5, hamburger= 3.5-4 (two people ordered, one thought great, the other said needed more flavor & needed bbq sauce for flavor), kids burger= 3, shredded beef enchilada= 1! (Very unhappy w/ this, should take off menu, done all wrong), scallops (pictured)=1! (Flavor weird, needed salt, in sea of butter and fat that did not taste good, weird texture, needed salt to eat it, didn't want to waste it since paying $18.95! Saffron rice pilaf with it looked good, again no flavor ;( why?!?! ) Buffalo shrimp= 4 huge prawns, original wings=5. Service 3.5, i am really hoping they don't charge for every refill cuz we had quite a few yes for soda no for milk). Restroom=4, ambiance=? Cuz of no seating inside we sat outside on the deck during b4 sundown so baked in the hot sun, umbrellas didn't cover us. Also spent much time shooing flies off our food. This was difficult to do an overall rating. Great place for beer and wings. Otherwise probably wouldn't come back if with the kids.

DELICIOUS WINGS. My husband I tried the old forge hot wings and they were perfectly crispy and tasty. The sauce was even more flavorful than your normal Frank's Red Hot sauce. There was something extra tangy making them extra scrumptious. Good bleu cheese too, nice and garlicky. I was NOT impressed with their nachos for two even though they are acclaimed by others. Grocery store tortilla chips, old tomatoes, sad ground beef, canned olives and cheese I can't even remember (not enough cheese/not super tasty.) Because of this experience I've decided to steer clear of northeast tex-mex offerings. Better to be safe than sorry. Thanks, Old Forge. There is PLENTY to drink at this place. It boasts as having over 100 beer offerings (drafts and bottles). A tasty draft from Uinta brewery ran us $7. Worth it for the price, I'm not sure. But it was refreshing and the draft had some great foam. Ambiance was very unique! The restaurant was packed with regulars on a Sunday afternoon. When you walk in you're in a small room with signs posting "wait to be seated." I hated that there was no hostess. We awkwardly waited wondering if anyone was going to welcome us. Bothersome for me as a newcomer. But someone came...eventually. There's beer memorabilia all over the dark wooden walls and ceilings. It felt like we were in a barn.Someone called it "revolutionary style." I'd stop by again for the wings! Wings are my weakness. And who doesn't love lots of beer options...
(4)ImaYesfa N.
Four stars for the chicken wings!! We had the sweet and spicy wings and it has a Curry catchup type of flavor that was really phenomenal. They have a massive beer selection and also some pretty good hard ciders too. We tried a few other things on the menu but it just didn't seem that great to me there's a lot of fried food. But like I said the wings were finger lickin good- apparently they've one lots of awards for their wings and I can believe it they were cooked to perfection and rave rave rave about the wings!!!
(4)Mary Jane R.
On the positive side: the food was good and our table on the deck had great ambiance. I was craving a burger and the Old Forge burger was juicy and delicious. Sunset over the mountain was delightful. The negative, and why it didn't get four stars, is that the service was slow and ineffective. My husband's meal was delivered a good 10 minutes after the rest of the family which is completely unacceptable. He ordered a salad!! Our server was friendly but the rest of the staff serving us didn't seem to know what they were doing. Sorry, Old Forge, wanted to love you but between waiting 40 minutes for a table and then having slow and poor service you only get three stars.

I read the reviews before coming here and so my expectations were pretty low... The reviews complaining about the salad are pretty overblown. It's a pretty basic salad bar and considering it's less than $10, seems fair to me. We had the Étouffée and French Onion soup, both were excellent. Étouffée came with a salad bar, sufficient for us. It was our first time to the Berkshires and we'd definitely stop by again. Atmosphere was great, waitstaff was friendly, food and drink were great.

Probably some of the best wings I've ever had. This bar is a true gem - off the main road, carved into the side of rocky crevice and dark n' divey inside. It's really the perfect place to finish off a day of skiing; the smell of a wood burning fire and the bar brimming with old memorabilia will send you back to carefree days when all you had to worry about was taking that basket weaving final online and when you were taking laundry home to mom. If you enjoy something a little different, try the Buff Orpington wings. Named after a yellow chicken breed, I didn't understand the reference until I left the dark dining room and went to the bathroom, where I freaked out over the intense yellow color of my fingernails. And my face. And my hands. But by golly, it was worth it. The wings were a spicy marriage of cumin, turmeric and maybe a hint of something sweeter like honey. They weren't hot by any means, but they had enough flavor to keep me going back for more. They were also cooked perfectly, on the crispier side, so that the outside crunch was the perfect crust to seal in the moisture of the chicken. We also tried the Forge Burger with American cheese and bacon. It was cooked exactly medium rare and totally delicious. Both these dishes hit the spot and send us back to our cabin feeling totally satisfied. With a couple of excellent craft porters and stouts to wash down the wonderful pub food, this place will be a Sure Thing the next time we're in the Berkshires.
(4)Anne Z.
We went here to sit on the deck and enjoy the view. My husband seemed to really like the wings, but the nachos were only average. Being so close to a farm, I expected more local and seasonal dishes, but it seemed like standard pub food. Beer was a little pricey and can you have too many choices for beer?
(3)Lenny S.
Late June, too cold for the deck, but I recommend that option for the view. Pub casual inside, real caz-ual, But excellent service , plenty of beers, good choices too... reasonable wine pricing. Entrees looked great, the wings and the nachos flying out of the kitchen to other tables. Word was they were excellent. Split the mussels appetizer, Nice portion and well prepared. Nice sauce and two big chunks of garlic bread, The etouffe was also big enough to split. Spicy, and shrimp, chicken and sausage were all tasty. Pub rating B+. Just not gourmet level on the prep. Would go back as so many do, the parking lot was FULL! it is a bit pricey on the entrees, high teens and up dollar wise, Burger pricing was fair at $11. I would deem it old school done well.
(4)Laura S.
Best wings I've found. Ever. You want beer. This is your place too. Might take forever to get your wings but that's part of the process. Takes a while to make perfection!! Don't skip this place. It's awesome. Gets super busy and you might have to wait during dinner time
(5)Leanna P.
Beer galore ! After my husband won Excellent in teaching at his high school, we received a gift card here since it's a restaurant we enjoy coming to a lot. The prices are affordable and the beer selection is insane. They offer over 200 both bottled and on tap ranging from ciders to IPAs and everything in between. The wings have won multiple awards and their appetizers and entrees are equally as delicious. The portions for appetizers are enough to make a meal out of. I usually get the butternut squash quesadilla but the sandwiches are stuffed and great too. They offer an unlimited salad bar for $7.50 too if that's your thing. Be forewarned...go earlier on weekends because you will be waiting!
(5)Nic L.
Our waitress was super nice and patient with us out of towners. The wings were just as awesome as everyone says and the buffalo nachos were amazing. Great beer selection. Around 20 on tap and 300 bottled.
(4)Mike C.
I can't believe he gaul of this restaurant. We drove all the way from New Jersey to taste the wide selection of delicious beer, and were met with hostility because we ONLY had state issued ID's and they demand to see another form of identification. We will NEVER be back. May they burn in hell
(1)Rirry C.
This place was just okay for me. They have a great beer selection! The food was just okay though. The chili was a bit too sweet for our taste. Their famous house wings were super crispy and juicy on the inside but the sauce was also a little sweet for me. The beef sandwich was kind of bland, we asked for au jus on the side to give it some flavor but that was even more bland than the sandwich. I was salting all my food like a mofo.

We were on vacation here from Virginia and saw this place on Yelp and it looked like a winner according to the ratings Usually the ratings are accurate but in this case this place was way overrated for sure! I am not a beer drinker and this place seemed to be great at beer but not at the food! The salad bar was small but very good! The salad bar was the best part of the meal! Had nachos for two and was average at best! The dish was pretty plain and needed more seasoning for sure! Where's the Beef???? Because it was very little on the nachos??? My son had ribs and they were terrible! Maybe these ribs are the way they are cooked in the north but never had ribs taste this bad in my life Ribs were way over blacken/burnt and were dry with no flavor! This place should come to Virginia to learn how to cook ribs that taste great! Another member of my party had fish and chips and that looked good and tasted good! Another had a burger and that was also good! Service was so-so at best! Took forever and they could not keep beverages full! Also they charge (full price each glass) for refills which crazy! If you like beer then you should be good here but if you just want food I would look elsewhere! Will not be back this week
(2)Kendel H.
The food is good, the wings are great, the people are friendly. I just don't enjoy the atmosphere! If it was less stuffy it might've gotten 5 stars from me, but not this time!
(4)Leana C.
Went here for the first time last week, on a Tuesday night, for dinner around 9 pm. We were so happy that the grill is open until 10! Both of us easily ordered burgers but then had a lot of trouble choosing beer. Our waitress helped guide us through the overwhelming beer menu! The burgers were cooked exactly to our preferences and the fries were tasty, too. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in the area, visiting my family, so I can explore what else is on tap!
(4)Wendy F.
On vacation in the Berkshires, we ate dinner here one night. The food was fabulous and I was impressed as to the attention they paid to my husband's nut allergy. Great service!
(5)Kelly C.
I really don't understand all the rave reviews. The food was mediocre at best. Salad bar was a joke and totally picked over. There are no tomatoes on the salad bar? We were told we have to ask our server for Tomatoes . I assume this is to cut costs. I agree with previous review that the wings were way over cooked and dry. Fish and chips were good but nothing great. Weird check in process . We were told 35 minutes and we waited an hour. When we asked for an update after 45 mins we were told they don't update!!! Very weird, won't be back.
(2)Max S.
I don't get it... all these stars made me go here, as well as seeing a full parking lot most the times I passed while I was camping down the street. I think the "standards"bar is set way too low in this region. I was so looking forward to all the good things I read. What a crock of poo poo. The bartender made no bones about letting you know how overwhelmed she was (I arrived 30 mins after they opened for lunch on a Tues) with her looks and sighs. I like to chat up a quick minute of small talk to gauge personalities. There was none of that. Strictly clinical business questions only. I ordered a dozen wings and a Forge burger medium/ well and my companion ordered the Etouffee. 45 minutes later the wings arrive. They are way over cooked, dry and crunchy (everyone knows a good wing has a crisp skin not hard and crunchy and juicy, tender meat) and barely any signs of the sauce, I had to literally rub each one around the plate each time to try to scrape up some flavor. What a disappointment. Sure enough our entrees are served while we are still eating our appetizers. (I hate that). My burger was rare in the middle, not medium/well as asked. I just ate what I could stomach around the edges as I didn't have another hour to spare to send it back. The Etouffee my partner said was not real Etoufee but a bunch of things thrown in a brown gravy. I'll take her word for it because it looked like chunky diarrhea to me.. I wasn't tasting it Etou-no-way! Now note this whole time bartenders are moving back and forth in front of us and not even eye contact with us. I did like the feel and decor of it , but but for the prices they charged for sub-par food, it's not enough to get me to return. What a shame. I had real high hopes for this one. And yes I agree with Mitchell H., yelpers let me down on this one as well.

Not good. Nice rustic atmosphere. Beef on the nachos was a bit weird. My daughters had chili there last year and liked it. This year they got it again. They both had about a tablespoon and that was it. It was very very "thick" and completely over seasoned to the point of not being edible. I had a "honey Dijon chicken". When the dish arrived, based on the presentation alone I knew it wasn't going to be good. It looked like a piece of microwaved chicken doused in sauce. The "sauce" tasted like pure honey, and nearly covered everything on the plate. I had them wash off all the sauce - which they were happy to. My wife got a "pork medallions" in some sort of sauce. It was just a piece of pork, and not even the higher quality kind usually referred to as "medallions". It was raw and undercooked in the center, which she discovered and did not eat.
(2)Oksana B.
I was there over a year ago... Loved there wings, I had come back all the way from NY. And order there wings again and I also tried there quesadilla which was fresh and pretty good. This is my new place to go to every time I'm in the neighborhood.
(4)Lisa B.
Great beer selection, wait staff that actually knows the menu and can offer advice on beer selections. My husband likes the wings and it is nice to have options. The food is ok pub food. Go for the cozy atmosphere, the decent service and beer.
(3)Rachael N.
We went here on a recommendation from a friend who lives in the area who raved about the 'award winning wings'. The decor was very unique, and it was a very interesting atmosphere. That's about the only good thing I can say. The service was very slow, though the restaurant was packed so that's forgivable. My co workers ordered a pear cider and the mixed drink called "Frost Bite". The pear cider was on tap and tasted like it had been watered down and was room temperature. The frost bite was just not a good drink so they both ordered something else after complaining and were still charged for their drinks. The salad bar was a joke. Cottage cheese. Lettuce, and random toppings like corn and carrots, but no tomatoes or onions or usual salad toppings. We ordered two dozen wings for the table. The smell of the sauce on the wings was enough to make us all gag. The sweet and spicy tasted like it was just rolled in teriyaki and soy sauce and vinegar. I'm not sure where else people from Massachusetts have ordered wings to compare these to, but they were horrible. We all washed our hands and every one of us noticed that our fingers and nails were STAINED YELLOW! Since leaving the restaurant we have all scrubbed our hands to the point they are raw, and they are still stained yellow. (My co-workers with beautifully done, fresh manicures are pissed to say the least.) My coworker ordered the garlic rosemary steak. She said it was salty with no rosemary or garlic on it at all. And it was covered in wilted lettuce. Super classy. To top it all off, we asked for separate checks and were told that they didn't do that sort of thing, and we could use three payment methods. We were not informed about an ATM anywhere nearby, and this caused confusion for us to try and figure out how the hell we were going to pay the bill since we all had cards. Overall, if you want to go and get a beer this might be the spot. They did have a very wide selection of beers and that is about the only other good thing I can say.
(1)Maggie M.
Food was excellent. The service was terrible . We found a hair in our wings and the waitress did not offer to make us new wings instead she took the food and came back with the bill. She then states I only charged you for 6 wings since there was hair in them. We then asked another server for her name so that IF we ever go back we know to ask not to be in her sections . So disgusted!
(2)Mahabubul B.
We went for a weekend trip to the Berkshires and found this place highly rated.. Once there we were welcomed as if we were all family! It was great the bartenders were nice and the drinks kept coming.. We enjoyed tasting all the different drinks.. And she gave us little sample shots of flavors we were curios to try.. The wings were VERY good! I even took some with us to take in doggy bag. I have say I will stop here again & again.. Every time I'm near by just to get a mug or a plat on their wall!
(4)John L.
Wife and I went to forge restaurant and had the nachos for two . When it came to the table it looked so huge but as we started eating it there was very little meat and mostly cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and olives. Not worth the price . Also the waitress did not tell us that there was no refills on soda( which we never been to a restaurant that did that)so we ended spending more money on soda then our nachos. We will not return
(2)Paul W.
Ok, not very friendly to out of towners. Can't get a beer sample for any 'special' beers on tap, really? No beer descriptions and no samples for you!
(3)Shannon A.
If you want the true Berkshire Experience the Forge is a must! Best beer selection in the state, fun environment and good pub food! We love the wings original style extra crispy, onion chips, burgers & butternut squash quesadilla! On a nice day make sure you ask to sit outside!
(5)Mary L.
Nice selection of beers do not go for food or service. Horrible onion soup and waitresses were confused
(1)Ashley P.
I come here often when I am out in the Berkshire's visiting family. The service is always excellent and while I don't love the home-style decor of the inside, the outside deck has some stunning views. The wings are great and we always order them. They also have a wonderful drink selection. The soups are also great, especially the French Onion. I have always found my main dish to be slightly underwhelming, not bad, but not great. I usually order a hamburger or sandwich, and everything is well done if lacking some seasoning.
(3)Not M.
The food is ok. Nothing to write home about. But the service was terrible. Our waitress was ok, but the management is awful. I called from the parking lot asking what the wait time was because the parking lot looked very full. I was told they don't give wait times over the phone. I told them that it was very difficult for me to bring my newborn daughter and two other kids into the restaurant just to ask what the wait time was. The bottom parking lot where I was parked is a long walk. I then asked to talk with the manager and spoke to another woman who I kind of knew was not the manager just by how she spoke to me. She told me the same thing and then hung up on me. Unfortunately I was too tired to find somewhere else to go and unloaded the kids and went up to the restaurant to find out the wait time. We waited about 15 minutes and were seated. I asked to speak with the manager and was told he would be out in a few minutes. When he came out, he repeated that they don't give wait times over the phone. I said I thought that was poor customer service since I was right there in the parking lot. His response was rude and angry. He told me that their customer service was excellent. I thought that odd since I was the customer. When I told him that the person I spoke with earlier hung up the phone on me, he outright called me a liar and walked away. When the server returned, I found out that he was actually one of the owners. Wow! Since I was upset and maybe not thinking clearly, I asked someone sitting next to me if I had been rude. She said "no, he was the one being rude". Needless to say, I will not be returning.
(1)Carlo V.
Very good wings Nice family atmosphere and very well priced The salad is also good, very popular with locals
(4)Christa M.
This is hands down my favorite place to eat, grab a beer, and enjoy time with my friends and family. It's our go-to-place anytime we want to go out for dinner, a holiday, or for birthdays. Whenever we (very briefly) think about going somewhere else, we quickly come to our senses and end up at the Forge. They have the best bartenders, great wait staff, and we've grown pretty fond of the owner over the last few years. My favorite thing to order is the Lanesboro Nachos for Two and whatever is recommended from the draught list, but obviously the wings are a must-do as well. Whether you are local or visiting the Berkshires, this is one place that will not disappoint time and time again.
(5)Debrin S.
Humongous beer selection! Incredible unique chicken wings. I had their original which is more like a spicy soy sauce. The wings were a good size- not huge on sterioids like chain resturant style and they were cooked perfectly w good crunch. Service is ok- just outta high school servers makes for inexperience unless you sit @ the bar- now were talking seasoned, quick & friendly enough. This is a definate if your local or just passing through for a good craft beer & solid bar comfort food & off the hook chicken wings. Nice deck at the rear of the building w a pleasant view of the rolling hills.
(4)Liz L.
Definitely not giving this place 5 stars for the food, although the food is good - just nothing extraordinary. I love this place because it's unique and screams "Berkshires" to me. Old, cozy, comforting. The French onion soup was exactly what I needed after a not-so-great day. They also have the most amazing selection of beer available. It's really unbelievable - if you love beer, you must check this place out.
(5)Sal M.
The best bar restaurant in MA. Hands down!! The wings are the best! Ski and grab a beer.
(5)Jennifer E.
Great food and atmosphere with a fantastic view. Perfect end to my backpacking trip in the Berkshires was a great lunch at the Old Forge. I was looking for a great place for an early lunch after a weekend in the woods. Old Forge was opening up soon, was close to where we were, and had great reviews on Yelp. We had to wait a few in the parking lot for them to open the doors, but once they did boy did the place fill up fast. In fact, it was pretty crowded not long after we were seated on their amazing deck overlooking the Berkshires. We perused the tasty sounding menu and ordered up beers (they have plenty of them to choose from! Their draft selection is good and the bottle selection extensive). My stomach was making loud noises so we quickly made our food choice and settled in for some good conversation. I ordered the burger which ended up being an awesome choice. The food was fulfilling, not only because I had been hiking all weekend, but because it was well cooked, seasoned, and delicious. The pumpkin stout by Cape Anne was perfect to wash it all down. I'm so happy to have found a great place to stop for a great meal when I'm out hiking in the Berkshires. The service was fast and friendly, the food was top notch pub fare, and the atmosphere was fun with the old time-y pub feel. Fantastic.
(4)Paul L.
Over rated wings. Etouffe was an embarrassment. And worst of all they charge for refills on soda and you don't know until the bill comes. Who does that these days? Is this 1975? Definitively a must miss.
(1)Josh L.
Great beer selection. I highly recommend the original wings! The salad bar isn't great but then again who goes there for the salad bar? The service is always topnotch even when they are to capacity. This is a great local spot and I highly recommend it... (Especially to wing lovers!).
(5)Mitchell H.
My Yelpers let me down. Maybe I was there on a bad night. Service was very slow. That may be on account of a new waitress, but definitely an unacceptable level. After 30 minutes for waiting for sodas, the waitress actually told me that she was waiting for them to be poured from the bar. Tip for ordering: Stick to bar food. Anything off the grill or out of the fryer should be ok. Don't get excited that there is a salad bar. It's a small salad station with all the ingredients to make a house salad except there were no tomatoes. ??? I thought the French onion soup would be safe, but boy was I wrong. First off, they call it French onion soup because you're supposed to use French Gruyere cheese. If you were supposed to use mozzarella cheese, maybe it would be called Italian onion soup. Second, the stock used for the soup tasted only like beef fat and no onion flavor. Total disaster. My wife and daughter ordered things they just shouldn't have. Fajitas and bolognese pasta. They got what they deserves for ordering anything not off the grill or out of the fryer. My son ordered a bone in steak special which was edible. My baby back ribs were pretty much dried out. Not terrible flavor though. I'm figuring that the people that rated it 5 stars are probably the same people that rated vacation village of the Berkshire's 5 stars. If we had an experienced waitress and stuck to the bar food, I can see how this place could get another star.
(2)D E.
This place was nothing special. After the 2 hour wait and the good reviews we thought this place would be something to remember but we were not impressed. One of my daughters ordered chili and said it tasted like mashed up meatloaf with sweet marinara sauce. We also had a look at the salad bar and saw how the lettuce and other salad add ons were in buckets and placed in a table filled with ice, and didn't look fresh. The Neptune Bowl, was a few pieces of shrimp put in a soggy bread bowl, this was a also recommended by our waiter. Over all we were not impressed by the food and wait and will not be coming back.
(2)Candi C.
Love going there! Lil pricey but service is always great! Love Jodie one of the main reasons we go!! Deans wings with garlic not too crispy! AMAZING!
(3)Brad C.
The worst customer service! They couldn't even tell me how long the wait would be. Very dissapointed knowing that someones service could be so bad but still get business.
(1)Lauren W.
This restaurant is excellent. Their wings are consistently delicious and many other dishes on the menu are wonderful. Try the onion chips for a crowd and the fajitas as an adventure. They are also well-known for their beer card - drink 100 different beers in a year and you get a mug. They always have an excellent selection on tap and over 100 beers by the bottle. Be willing to wait for parties of fewer than 6 but make a reservation for parties of 6 or more. Worth your wait!
(5)Harold G.
Great wings, nice view if you sit on the back deck; great beer selections. Will definitely return next time in the Berkshires.
(4)Amanda L.
My friends and I were in the area after a day of skiing at Jiminy Peak. We originally planned to go to Powder Hounds but they were closed at the time so we decided to go to this place. Luckily, we were not disappointed with our choice! The setting was very busy with little knick knacks covering every inch of the wall and ceilings. It had a very dim lit, pub feeling different from anything you'd find back here in Connecticut. I ordered the Shredded Beef Enchilada(Tex-Mex Style) that came out to be a massive size! I almost finished the entire thing which was to my surprise because I'm a small person but with a big appetite. My friends ordered the Grilled Greek Chicken Salad and one of the burgers, I forget which but they were both satisfied with their choices. As mentioned by other reviewers, they have a large selection of beers. And unfortunately, I started hearing about their widely famous wings after my visit, otherwise, I would have ordered their wings so if you haven't tried their wings I suggest you do!
(4)H C.
We went for lunch on a rainy day and the restaurant and bar was still pretty busy and packed. The service is very nice and friendly. The menu is great and I enjoyed the food. The food service is slow, however. Expect to be there at least an hour for a few entrees.
(4)Ashley O.
We ate here twice while in vacation after reading other YELP reviews. Not only do they have awesome wings (deans garlic wings) but the staff is wonderful. They are great with kids. We did not have any beer which is something that they are known for but I was in awe of the impressive list! The only thing that I would say negatively about this place is that it is $2.00 for each glass of Ice Tea,( at least on my first bill) however; I was willing to pay that the second time around because it was good ice tea compared to other restaurants in the area. They have a deck off the back to eat on with a view of the neighbouring mountain. If we ever return to the area again it is a restaurant that we will definitely stop at again. The locals love it! I am in love with it now too!

You must get the wings! I've been going here multiple times a month for two years and it's easily my favorite restaurant in the area. Amaaaazing beer selection that just can't be beat. Servers range from polite and courteous to lively and entertaining. Garlic deans wings (garlic buffalo) taste great, or if your looking for something different try the buff orpington wings, a spicy curry-based wing that tastes best right out of the fryer. Also, try the wings with some garlic dressing from the salad bar, yummy! Love the Forge!
(5)Brett N.
Very busy spot on any night, especially on weekends. Usually a 30- 45 minute wait for your table. You cant reserve a table unless you have a giant party for the downstairs room. All I usually order is the Buff Orpington wings which are curry. Very crowded but service is usually quick and polite. A lot of beers to try.

Great atmosphere, great service and incredible wings!! A MUST!

Excellent wings, good service. Overall great experience.

This is my favorite restaurant in the world. It has been for most of my life. Aside from being the coolest place in the Berkshires, the beer (let's call it) a catalogue is absolutely daunting. Hundreds upon hundreds of the best beers from all over the world. On any given night, there might be 20+ on tap also! The food all around is phenomenal, but 3 things that every single person walking through the door should be ordering: 1). French onion soup WELL DONE. Best french onion I've had anywhere. 2). Salad bar. All ingredients are extraordinarily fresh and delicious. Simple, perfect, unmissable. 3). WINGS. No sarcasm here. The Forge's chicken wings are actually the most perfect chicken wings that have ever existed. All flavors are delicious. I personally love the Dean's which are buffalo style, and I also love the Buff Orpington flavor which are a very interesting spicy/sweet curry flavor. Original wings are amazing too, as are the garlic deans, sesame ginger, and the extra hots! It's not just the flavor of the wings, it's the way they are cooked. It's an absolute art form. They are AMAZING. Any marginally negative review you read or hear about this place is untrue, and is being narrated by someone who had a bad experience for reasons of their own. The staff is unbelievably friendly, knowledgeable, and well trained, and the management is unparalleled. Truly one of the most well run businesses I know of of any kind!
(5)Steven H.
Great beer, good food Staggeringly large beer selection. I believe I had the Monkey Fist. My étouffée was very well done; spicy, but not too much so. The rest of my family was mixed on their feelings, although wings were well received. I would go back if in the area.
(4)Marissa B.
This place has AMAZING wings! I got the sweet and spicy wings and seemed to have a little bit Asian flair to them. The garlic and ginger really came through. There was also a touch of curry in them. My dad asked the waitress her opinion and she raved an didn't hesitate and said the open faced brisket. My dad liked it but the BBQ sauce was a little sweet for his likely. My mom really enjoyed her meal of étouffée. The Cajun sausage had the right amount of kick to it. Nice size portions of food also. Amazing selection of beer! I'm from Long Island, NY and I was able to get a Brooklyn ale, I was impressed! If I visit this area again, Old Forge is a place I will be coming back too!

Wings. Get the wings. Have from salad from the salad bar to make it seem healthy. And, get the wings. The Old Forge is always crowded because the place is small. In the winter, it can be hard to get a seat. The floors creak and the rooms are dark. However, from the spring to the fall go to the back porch with the wondrous Berkshire mountains views. A large bar has an incredible selection of beers in bottle and on tap. (I cannot drink beer. But, the quality and variety is impressive.)
(4)Cassie M.
Heaven on Earth--no better way to describe the Forge! :)
(5)Sue H.
I'm gonna keep this short and simple. The fried chicken wings here are damn good, and the beer selection is off the hook. Had me a dozen Wings in the House Sauce with a Smutty Nose Summer Hefeweizen and practically died and went to heaven. You just can't go wrong with fried chicken and beer, especially when they're as good as they are here. 'Tis the meal of gods I say! My one gripe is the that the sauce wasn't spicy enough... but I like my wings spicy, so maybe that's just my own taste/preference. Ambiance here is pretty chill too and service was efficient. Word.

This place is an absolute STAPLE to central Berkshire county. Their beer selection is probably the biggest in New England. This is the kind of place that does beer cards and mugs too! They have a rotating tap of probably 10-20 beers and over 100 bottled beers too! The interior has a lot of character; covered in beer cards, mugs, pictures, local sports teams and skiing items. There's two TVs at the bar for sports, but this place is more about the people around you than watching tv. The wings at this place are outstanding (I went to college out near buffalo) and definitely comparable to real Buffalo wings. They're done right. Crunchy outside, hot moist middle and the sauces are outstanding! For you salad lovers, there's a salad bar here too! The only downside to this place is the fact that there's always a wait. But that, to me, means that this place is just awesome if it's always that busy. Plus the owner always walks around and makes sure every table is happy! Also, waiting for your table is kinda part of the experience. Go to the bar and grab a beer and chat with the people next to you! I've been going here since I was a child. After a long day skiing or on Thursday nights with my parents, it's always awesome. Locals and tourists alike frequent this place and it's somewhere my friends always want to come back to when they visit. Thanks Olde Forge for being awesome and not changing over the years :)
(5)Helen C.
Good nachos, butternut squash quesadillas, and wings. The beer list is impressive as well. I love the cool atmosphere and friendly service. The foccacia pizza wasn't really a pizza though and had way too much feta cheese.
(5)Tom M.
Always go to the Forge when I go home for a visit. I was craving something spicy and happily found out the kitchen can make their hot wings even hotter than what they have on the menu. these super extra hot wings were everything I hoped for. The only thing that detracted from the experience was that service was somewhat slow. Took about 10 minutes to get a drink refill, and when your mouth is on fire... well you know.
(4)Uki A.
Good tap beer selection. Wings are very good. Both the Buffalo and their own deans classic. The menu is standard pub fair but they have some good specials. Good portions good taste. Our service was excellent.

I had been here a few times over the last decade or so, most recently January of 2010 twice. I loved it then, and was looking forward to coming back a few weeks ago when my family and I visited the area. I was sadly disappointed. Lets start with the bad, so that you don't think I am just bashing the place. Believe me, when I told my brother what happened and how disappointed I was in the food this time he was shocked as he too, loved it when we were there a few times. Let me begin. French onion soup was just blah, not bad, not good, just blah...and literally blah as in I had to add salt to my french onion soup...not a good sign. The wife got a portabella sandwich, which was entirely taken over by green pepper and onion, and so soggy the bottom bread was repulsive. They also ruined the amazing flavor of the portabella with these cheap additions. Two thumbs down on this one...although when we took the sandwich apart and ate just the cheesy top piece of bread and mushroom it was ok, but still had the onion and green pepper taste...ugh. Now the pizza, it had green fuzzy mold circles cooked into the crust. They assured me that was impossible, but I know better. I took a picture to prove it if you are interested. Oh yeah, by the way I ate half of it before i noticed.....uugggh. Ok now the wings, they were very, very good...and the beer selection is also amazing so if you want my opinion here...go for the wings and beer and you will be happy. Anything else, enter at your own risk! So, for wings and beer, they get three stars. Food and overall ambiance, they get two. I still want a half rating system here at Yelp and hopefully someday will get it but for now, I can't give them a three star rating as if I saw three stars here and went in for a regular meal i'd have to question the person writing the review.

I visited here in 2007 with a girlfriend. I remember we ordered spinach mushroom cheese roll up and thought it was too greasy for my taste, and the service was not very attentive. 7 years later, back here by recommendation for beer & wings. oh myyyy. Arrived on Sunday night 6pm during president's wknd. It was busy and we were seated in 15 min. Serve staff looked the same as before - young ladies probably attending local college. The vibe was casual and romantic - slightly too dark to take good picture of the food. The menu was vegan friendly with mushroom, salad bar, soup etc. I had french onion soup again and it was filling. We ordered the wings on recommendation, and they were able to mix two styles with an order of a dozen wings. However, the Thai wing was too sweet and oily for my taste, while the old fashion was ok. (The reason: the meat was not soft nor juicy. Both wings tasted dry, hard and slightly over cooked.) My friend ordered chicken fajita and it was served sizzling hot from the metal plate. We will be back for the selection of beer and the vibe. I will stick with my French onion soup and forgo the wings.

The Forge! A favorite among local college students and beer connaisseurs alike. I have a lot of good memories here. The atmosphere is warm, cozy and casual, the beer list is in a binder, the servers are very nice, and the food is hearty (often greasy) but generally delicious. The mere mention that forge wings might be at an event is enough to bring a swarm of Williams College students. I recently came here with my boyfriend and he enjoyed it even without the cloud of college nostalgia. If you aren't afraid of commitment, try the 50 beer challenge.
(4)Robin B.
Ate dinner here Thursday July 3, 2014, around 5:30pm - no wait, casual atmosphere, ample parking, I had the wings - they were willing to let me split the order to get 2 different flavors. Had the Buff Orpington and the Dean's traditional flavors - loved them both. Friendly service, reasonable prices, quick in and out. Great place.
(5)Gail B.
For a beer and wing connoisseur, this is as good as it gets. Seriously! I didn't count all the beers, but there were at least 5-6 pages of them - in small print! If you can't find a beer here...fuggeddaboutit! I found a great cider from Wash State - Samuel Smith. So crisp and refreshing....I need to find this here in RI....like now! Hubby had a wheat beer that I couldn't even begin to spell. Great selection (but I may have already mentioned that?!!). Oh yeah, they have good food too :-) I'm from near Buffalo originally so I know good wings. And these were the real deal. Huge, crispy, and I tried the house sauce and it was fantastic. Spicy with just a hint of sweet. Hub had some mexican pizza that looked pretty good, but who cares? I was wallowing in my wings and cider.....good stuff!
(5)Andrea P.
Good wings, great beer list Poor service (been there with big groups and as a pair, service repeatedly poor) busy or slow, decent food, nachos aren't great, place needs a serious dusting-- not a clean area, makes you wonder. The service isn't that great; waitresses seem more interested in each other than meeting your needs. There are only 2 that I have truly felt gave me good service. I do like the wings-- certainly the best in the area-- but it's not somewhere I'd recommend for much else... unless someone was in No Berkshire County & wanted good beer... then this would be the place.
(3)James C.
Best wings in the area. Great, unique flavors. Larger than average wings cooked to just the right level of crispness. Great beer selection. However, all other food is mediocre at best.
(4)Kristoffer K.
Well there are very few places to eat at Jiminy peak. And now there is one less place to eat. Rude, obnoxious behavior, angry bartenders ( don't get mad at me because you live in a trailer!!!!) and average food at best. Oh and don't try to order food at the bar while waiting for a table. It's not allowed. Get an education, maybe you can learn what the service industry is all about.
(1)Doctor O.
Great beers, great atmosphere, amazing wings and mac-and-cheese. Other selections range from pretty-good to mediocre, but why bother? Just get wings and/or mac-and-cheese. It is busy. Very busy. If you manage to find a seat at the bar, they won't push you to go quickly, which I love. Very relaxed. You have to calibrate your expectations though. This is a cozy pub-style restaurant, priced in what many will feel is the "fancy restaurant" category. If you would like to avoid paying gastropub prices at a pub with wood panelling and dirty floors, maybe avoid. But if you want access to the best beer selection in the area, well, drink your 50 beers and get access to the club, which comes with reduced pricing. By the time you make it to 50, you'll have made some friends and the bartenders will know you by name.
(4)Santha W.
Love this place. The wings are the best.
(5)Andy P.
As far as local beer/wing places go, Old Forge is the gold standard. The wings are unparalleled. I have had wings across the country, and still none come close to this small restaurant's. The beer selection is arguably the best in Berkshire County, with Moe's Tavern in south county coming in at a close second. Old Forge is by no means undiscovered; it will be busy if you go on the weekend. Plan to wait in line or go at unconventional time.
(5)Lars L.
Service was better than the food, which is a staple of fried edibles. Nice hamburger, and the reliable salad bar from the 1970s. Some of the only food within easy driving distance of the ski slopes. Nice beer selection
(3)Brian M.
We arrived to a packed house and a thirty minute wait. On the one hand if a place has that long of a wait on a Thursday night then it must be ok. On the other hand, we were frickin' hungry. That minor annoyance was quickly forgotten when we noticed that they have Southern Tier Pumking, one of my favorite beers, on tap. Luckily this place has a pretty decent beer selection because that was enough to cover for the slow service and adequette food. The service can probably be chalked up to it being so busy on a weekday, but our food really didn't strike us as anything special. Not being from the area, I don't know what else Pittsfield has to offer, but I do know that we passed quite a few places to eat here based on the solid reviews and we weren't all that impressed.
(3)Jason B.
Dropped in here for a beer after dinner. Fabulous beer selection, like two million of them in a big fridge. I had to have an Old Speckled Hen. They keep boxes of Trivial Pursuit questions everywhere on the bar, which is kickass. The bar staff is super friendly and the patrons were all good folk.
(4)Rob W.
LOTS of very tasty beers from local legends, to imported gems and staples. Almost as many as my favorite pub in Boston, The Publick House. Old Forge does a great job. Knowledgeable wait staff (our server answered several questions about different beers with discernible proficiency) Amazing sunset view of classic Berkshires off the back outdoor deck, and fairly decent food. I had the Fish and Chips. Pretty standard, but something about the thin and crispy breading brought memories back from a pub in London, The Pilot in Greenwich. My folks had the Baked Scallops, and Mac N' Cheese with bacon. Scallops were flavorful, and the Mac N' Cheese was made with very thin fusilli pasta, which to my taste didn't hold much sauce and seemed lacking, but my Mom loved it. I think the bacon saved it. Reeeeally enjoyed the beer I had for dessert. Southern Tier Crème Brûlée Milk Stout. Holy Cow was it creamy! Also had a great Hoffbraü Maibock that surpassed my expectations with rich unique taste and dark red color (went well with my meal), and had started with a pleasantly refreshing Saison Dupont that washed off the heat of the day. Of the several restaurants my family and I tried the week we visited the Berkshires during the Tanglewood Festival, Old Forge was my favorite. Definitely sit outside if the weather allows. And for the love of GOD don't order a bud light. I face-palmed when the guy next to our table thumbed through the 6 page menu and ordered that.
(4)Donovan M.
Plain and simple review for this place. If you love beer and wings, like me, this is heaven on earth. Everything else on the menu is mediocre at best.
(4)M K.
This is nothing new if you read the other reviews, but great bar, great (GREAT!) beer selection and you MUST get the Buff Orpington wings. I think they are honey curry (mild curry) and so delicious...I crave them all year because we only visit Old Forge when skiing at Jiminy Peak. They open at noon so we pick up a takeout order early, ski, and then reheat the food in our condo for dinner, delicious. Also their potato skins are amazing. This place is always packed. We think it's the best food option near Jiminy Peak.
(5)Chris S.
WINGS! The wings are delicious...that's what you should go here for. The rest of the food is just ok...but really, you should be here for the wings. The place is crowded and it can be tough to get a seat. When the bar is crowded too it can feel almost uncomfortable. You feel like you are in the servers' way and have nowhere to go and wait. But wait anyway............for the wings.
(4)frank t.
this was a good place. food was served quickly and was presented well. they have a god selection from entrees to burgers and wings. service was good and friendly. we would visit again.
(3)Dave C.
Very nice and cozy place. Loads of good beer.

I like this restaurant. Have been here a handful of times, always in the summer and we were able to eat outside on back porch which has a lovely view. One complaint I have are the descriptions of food. I ordered something thinking it was going to be more like a salad and it was a bread bowl filled with canned tomatoes, cheese and shrimp. It was just not at all what I was expecting...and the last thing you want to eat in hot weather. Also, once we ordered wings and the menu said the sauce was sweet and spicy but it was not sweet at all more just mix of different spices but not hot either. Cant remember name of sauce but had a weird name to it. Also the servers seem over worked and not very attentive. First time we went I remember server being frustrated with us because we wanted to order wings as appetizer because we were hungry and she said wings would take a long time and come out later than other food but I thought she wanted to kill us the way she said it. lol Anyway, I think the food is pretty good overall.
(3)David M.
Excellent local place to grab wings and beer in a warm atmosphere. Waits can be a little long since this place is so popular, but if you've had the wings you'll understand why. If, however, you are a snooty New Yorker who only comes up here to ski, then maybe you should stay away. Please do eat at the lodge restaurant; it'll save room at the Forge for pleasant people who appreciate great beer.
(4)Catherine C.
BEST CHICKEN WINGS EVER. Don't order anything else off the menu because you will be disappointed. Only get chicken wings and beer! The beer selection is top notch! If you come in the summer, you can sit outside and enjoy the view:)
(5)Jenn M.
I thought about writing a terrible review to encourage you not to go and keep this place a secret... The Forge is absolutely the best place to go for wings and beer. With an unparalleled selection of draft and bottled beers, it's the hangout for tourists from Jiminy, locals from a large surrounding radius, and college kids from BMC and Williams. On a Friday or Saturday night, the place is always packed. However, show up on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, and you'll surely get a table right away, even if you have a large group (say eight or so). I'm a local regular. My friends and I go for both the beer and the wings. In fact, I've never been there and not eaten wings. I recommend the Dean's original (though I'm not sure they're listed as such on the menu anymore). There are different schools of thought on this point, but never fear, you can always order half and half if you're torn between two options. A dozen will easily put you into a food induced coma, though I often pair it with a salad and take some home afterwards. The salad bar is fantastic, mostly because of the sweet corn mixture always on hand and the variety of toppings. If you plan to go often (which you should!) consider registering for a beer card-- it's easy... drink fifty different beers in a year and you get a mug with your name on it. After that, you're charged mug prices for your beers. Do it again, you get another mug. Do it again, you get another mug. After some number of cards, you get your name on the wall. There are further incentives to keep going after that too... Finally, the waitstaff is FANTASTIC. They are mostly young, attractive ladies, who always have a smile on. When I was there last week, our waitress was soooo wonderful-- I had just had my wisdom teeth out and she was great about figuring out what I could eat without hurting myself! Furthermore, she told us that she has upwards of 20 beer cards and comes in on her days off to eat there; that must mean it's good! ONE CAVEAT: The Forge only accepts three forms of payment, so make sure to bring cash if you are in a large party. They won't do separate checks.
(5)Brian L.
The Old Forge continues to satisfy. Their wings are really unique and come in a flavor to satisfy all palates. We sat out on the deck which was a really good change of pace since it gets pretty packed when I usually try to sit inside around the busy time. Just wish their draft list had prices so I wouldn't be scared to order off it!
(5)Ashley J.
Have never had a bad meal here. We almost always order French Onion Soup-which is very cheesy, and Orginal wings-which are crispy and juicy. There is something for everyone on this menu. The waitstaff is super friendly and helpful, and the owner is almost always on the floor. The beer list is the first thing you should look at since it will take you a good amount of time just to choose your drink. My favorite casual restaurant in the Berkshires. If you plan on going on the weekend be prepared to wait for at least 30 mins. They do not take reservations of call aheads. More than worth the wait
(5)Susan T.
Quick & decent meal but beware EACH glass of soda will cost you 2 bucks. No such thing as a free refill

After I tweeted about the fab wings at another Berkshire establishment, somebody messaged me a heads up about the Old Forge, so of course, we headed over there one Saturday night (around 6ish), and OMG - what a fright. The place was jam packed! At least 30 people were waiting to be seated. Seems like a mix of locals and tourists (since it's near Mt. Greylock & Jimney Peak). We left & pledged to return at an off peak hour - at noon (opening time) on a Saturday. We've been to the Old Forge three times since. First time, we tried the hot wings. They were quite hot, meaty and tasty, but not really worth a special trip. We also tried their burgers b/c someone told us they had the best burger around - can't say I agree. It was a typical bar burger, nothing special, maybe even a bit overcooked. Fries were ehh. We were ready to write off the Old Forge as a crowded tourist trap and not worth a return visit when the bartender at our other fav (Berkshire) wing establishment told us we didn't order the right wings at Old Forge - we needed to get the "Buff Orpington" wings. OK, so we returned and have to say "Wow" - they were amazing! The sauce has somewhat of a curry flavor with orange peel and I don't know what else, but it's not hot or spicy, just sweet and a bit savory. Now I know why they win all the contests. If you go, keep in mind the wings take 20 min to cook. We also ordered French Onion soup which was very tasty. Gooey cheese in a flavorful, oniony packed broth. Perfect for a chilly day. The Buff Orpington wings were so great that we returned a week later, having not been able to get them off our minds. We sat on the sun filled outside patio and it was bliss once again. This time we also tried their mussels - very tasty, in a garlicky butter sauce with two nice wedges of yummy garlic bread. If you like beer, the Old Forge has a ton of beer selections (300ish). I'm not a beer drinker but they have a great draft Saranac Root Beer. So, the Old Forge is a go - just don't go at peak dinnertime or you will have a looonnnggg wait.

Four couples golfed nearby and we were looking for a lunch place. I used Yelp and found Old Forge... I got high fives from everyone. We ate on deck, sampled many beers and had great food. Waitress was excellent. She knows her beer menu. A picky crowd of 8, all felt choice could not have been better.
(5)John S.
Flat out great food and great beer. One of the best pub/bars in the berkshires!
(5)Danielle M.
Great wings! They are very crispy and delicious. The potato skins are quite good too. Good beer selection.
(4)Marissa J.
Where do I even begin.... I called up to make reservations for a party of 9 last night (Monday night) and they said that they didn't take reservations. Ok whatever, I got over it. But the person who answered the phone said "you better hurry so you can get a table". I should have known at this point to STAY AWAY! We rushed down there, there were about 4 cars in the parking lot. Certainly didn't have to "rush". Anyway, we sat down and a waitress took our order (she is the only reason this place even gets 1 star), she was fantastic! The kids were getting hungry and one of them began to whine/cry, as a 2 year old does when hungry. He was not even crying for 25 seconds, a older man, who appeared to be the owner or manager, approached me and asked me to "keep my kid quiet before I ruined it for the other guests". First off, Not my kid. Secondly, kids cry and whine, if you are going to offer a kids menu, I am assuming you are kid friendly establishment. I was floored that this guy would say such a thing. I go out to eat a lot and have NEVER been treated like that! Also, food was gross. Ribs were fatty, chili was nasty, bread was stale, mac and cheese tasted like the cream was bad.
(1)Jim W.
Outstanding service, Trina. Thank you. Great chili!!! Everybody's is a little different ... its all good ... but I love their version! Absolutely outstanding etouffee!!!! Perfect spice/heat .... no pain, just sweaty eyelids & mild after-burn. The wife's cheeseburger/fries plate was loaded & she loved it. Uh, very good salad bar .... but no tomatoes??? MONSTER beer selection (standards & dozens never heard of) along with a VERY complete menu of many very tempting dishes. Something for everyone w/prices from $ to $$. Small, very casual, very respectable rustic bar w/dining areas adjacent to (louder), rear (quieter) & outside rear (seasonal, of course). Private parking lot. 1 Bowl chili, 1 Etouffee entree, 1 salad bar, 1 Forge Cheeseburger w/fries, 2 Stellas, 1 soda, 1 coffee = $50.55 + tax & tip. All well worth it. Nice side trip for lunch/dinner on our occasional Lee outlets shopping jaunts. Definite return.
(5)Patrick F.
For a down to earth pub atmosphere, this is the place to be! They probably have the largest beer selection I have ever seen! The wings are VERY good! I had the steamed mussels for an appetizer and I was not disappointed. A great place for everyone, especially if you like beer and wings!!! Will definitely be going back!
(5)jim b.
Great beer selection and the best wings I've ever had. Enough said.
(5)Alan C.
Visiting the Forge should rank high on any Williams student's bucket list - usually quite crowded (for good reason!), so make sure to get there early, especially if you're bringing a vanful of entrymates.
(5)Jennifer O.
We chose here for dinner last night. We had our two sons with us, the waitress was very good with the kids and with us - we had a fabulous dinner, one of the best beer lists I've seen in a very long time and the waitress had a good understanding of what was what. My only down for Old Forge was that the salad bar could be better. That having been said, good food for a decent price with a fabulous selection for brews!
(4)Sara S.
Went there for lunch with a large group of 10. Ordered the 'seafood chowder' for an appetizer and it seemed as if the only seafood in it was salmon. It was good...but I was expecting more variety in my seafood. We waited a bit for our lunch, but it was the busiest time of the day. They have a weird rule about their drinks. My husband asked our waitress for his beer and after about 10-15 mins he decided to get up and order it from the bar himself. Unfortunately that is 'against the rules' here. You have to order drinks from your waiter...no matter how long it'll take them. Overall the food was pretty good...not fantastic. It was a nice welcoming place and I would go back. Oh, and the bloody mary's were delicious. :-)

Jaeger schnitzel was very good....fish and chips were good as well...

Wife and I go yearly for the last 8 years around Columbus day weekend after apple & pumpkin picking. We have never been disappointed. We always enjoy sitting on the scenic deck and listening to the interesting chatter. This past visit I had the grilled portabella sandwich. The mushroom could have been a bit bigger, and I wish I'd known that the peppers in the topping were sauteed bell peppers instead of roasted red peppers. I dislike bell peppers. She had a shaved steak sandwich with bacon & cheddar. It was good, but best eaten hot, and not as leftovers. Our appetizer of pasta asiago with prosciutto was simple and excellent, with decadent heavy cream, and could easily become an entree shared by 2 if you each get the salad bar, which is small but always fresh. Of course I got an order of wings to go. This time I got the Buff Orpington style, which is sweet with a yellow curry backbone. Wishing they had carrots with the celery sticks. I dislike celery. For the first time we had to wait 15 min for a table. It is worth the wait. I WISH this place was closer to home,, preferably walking distance. I agree with another reviewer who feels there should be prices listed on their draft menu. It always bothers me when businesses conceal that kind of information. Also be aware that there are no free refills on soda, although the menu IS kid friendly. The more experienced servers are adept and helpful with food and drink suggestions. Don't be intimidated to try something new! You could easily dine cheaply here, or spend a lot, depending on your appetite and thirst. Get there between 2-4 pm on weekends, especially during peak season if you want to sit outside without a wait. The inside dining area and bar are cozy and comfortable, and it seems to be a great place to catch a football game. TRY the wings and a drink, and bring a friend! Message to the owner/manager: Please refresh the menus more often. They are showing wear.

So if you find yourself way out on in the not so wild western parts of Massachusetts you will probably end up hungry and sober at some point and you will be looking for a bar. Imagine yourself being down hiking Mt. Greylock or done skiing for the day at Jiminy Peak. Well, get in your car and get ready for some very careful drinking and driving and head to the Olde Forge. Hands down, way, way, down - the best beer geek bar but I've been to in a long time. I counted well over a hundred bottles on hand and there were about 10 taps up and running. The food menu was pretty decent, and I defaulted to the wings per everybody's suggestion at the bar and I was not disappointed.

I tried this place around xmas time. I thought it was alright. I went for lunch so I didn't go near the bar area so I can't comment much on that. For the seating I was in a room that wasn't big but had a bunch of tables, granted it wasn't pack so it worked but I could see it being a problem. The big problem I had were the chairs. I thought they were horrible and I'm not one to really complain about something like that. We got the nachos for two and there were 3 of us and it was a perfect match. I got one of the chicken sandwiches that I thought was a little dry and nothing filling. The big thing here is the beer choices, they have a lot which is a nice change for a berkshire bar. I'd go back for drinks but may pass on the food.

Best spot in Western MA for beer and wings. Beer selection is 2nd to none in the area and the wings are award winning! Staff is a lot of fun and very energetic. Busy 7 days a week here! Go once and go often. Start a beer card and finish 50 different beers in 1 year get a custom engraved mug.

Abbot Ale is on tap here, which, according to a pint glass collector-friend of mine who only visited the Old Forge through my pictures I shot last week, is rare for American bars. But the Old Forge is no typical bar. First of all, it's in the western Massachusetts mountain town of Lanesborough that everyone Anglicanly refers to as Lanesboro. There's not much in Lanesboro, but it's a vital link on Route 7 between Pittsfield and Williamstown, and very close to the Jiminy Peak and Brodie Mountain ski resorts. Second, the beer menu, reminiscent of Big City in Brighton, Mass., lists over 100 bottles from around the world. There are also about a dozen drafts on tap, Abbot Ale included the day I went. Third, the food rocks. Well, it's pub grub to be fair with standard nachos, mozzarella sticks, and chicken tenders, but how many pubs do you know that market a quesadilla filled with butternut squash? I don't know of Mexican taquerias with this delicious appetizer! I can go on, but you get the point, right? Go for the beer, the atmosphere, the outdoor deck, and the food. Oh, and you can chalk up your culinary history to include a meal in the Anglican Lanesboro that stocks the British Abbot.

First thing about this place is the beer selection. It is expansive and has something for every palate. It can take some time to decide, and the servers are not always up on some of the brands, but with about 300 bottles, I suppose this can be forgiven. The portobello burger was very enjoyable. Thick mushroom and not overdone to mushiness. I indulged in this a few times on my trip. Occasionally, I am forced to break my vegetarian diet for the sake of epicurean delight. After hearing about the wings here, I decided to accept the inevitable morning after and try the wings. Great wings, indeed! There are several varieties, but I think their original may be my favorite. Slightly reminiscent of teriyaki undertones, but still keeping with traditional buffalo flavoring. There is also a curried variety that is also a unique and enjoyable experience. I'd avoid the garlic wings. It's essentially the original rolled in minced garlic. Unfortunately, for its selection and draw, the bar is far too small. Standing around isn't great there as there is a narrow space between the bar and a dividing wall that is largely taken up by the chairs. It's just not great for groups and mingling. There is generally a wait for dinner seating. If the bar were larger, this may be acceptable. See the previous paragraph. Finally, the service isn't great. I get that this may be a getaway vacation spot in the berkshires, but still. The poor service can put me off. And unless I was right next to an actual bartender, getting beer suggestions wasn't easy.

Any establishment with a giant Spaten flag on it must come correct. Wings are crispy and tasty! Beer selection goes on for miles and for the size of the place the Beer Menu rivals the Sunset Tap in Allston. This place takes pride in their beer and their consumers of beer. I learned of the plaque system from somebody who has consumed over 500 beers there, which makes you plaque eligible. Burgers were a step under RJ O'Sullivans in Somerville, but they were better than probably any place you have been to. I wish I had ordered more wings, but if i am back in the area it will definately happen. A gentleman at the package store mentioned that they have the "best wings in the county" and it seemed to live up to it. I really don't think there is a bad item on the menu, but it will be hard to try other things if you start with the wings!

This place is great. Wings and Beers. Very friendly and the owner chatted with me on the way out the door to smoke his cigar. Hands down the best beer bar in the region.

yummy, affordable, and soooo many beers to chose from! Their huge beer selection has something for everyone with very reasonable prices, the "buff orpington" wings are AMAZING, and the old forge burger and veggie burger were both average, definitely not bad. 2 great beers, an appetizer platter, and 2 burgers for under $40? Can't beat it!

We've been meaning to try the Old Forge since we moved to the area nearly eight years ago. Unfortunately, we cannot say the experience was worth the wait. The host/owner seemed gracious and attentive, as did the enthusiastic waitress. I was pleased to see they had Lambic Framboise on tap. I don't drink beer too often these days, but the Lambic made me indulge. My companion started with kielbasa in some sort of sticky sauce; she enjoyed it, but the whole thing looked rather unappetizing. The restaurant has a salad bar, which is another strike against it. I have an aversion to salad bars, which are just too unsanitary for words, especially this one, which lacked even a sneeze guard. The salad items and dressings tasted rather pedestrian. The restaurant seems too packed for patrons to wander about retrieving their salads. Our waitress had recommended one of the specials, which boasted a rather long name revolving around Bob Marley, shrimp, chicken and pineapple. This entree tasted entirely too sweet, though the proteins were cooked decently. The shrimp and chicken, accompanied by pineapple and red pepper, swam in a thick sauce dominated by rum and some sort of sweetened coconut or tropical fruit. Some acid and/or heat (spices) would have balanced all that sweetness, but alas, our chef had not thought of that. We thought the mediocre meal overpriced (at more than $40) and would not trouble ourselves to return. We do give the restaurant credit for its extensive beer selections; at least the $6.00 price of my Lambic was worth the trip. During our grad school days in the 80s/90s, we used to pay $18/bottle for a Lambic in NJ.

When at Jiminy Peak, you must make at pit stop at Old Forge. They have the most amazing barbecue ribs I've tried to date. Try a pint from their extensive beer menu to compliment your meal. Their award winning chicken wings were ok (although I think I'm still partial to Bon Chon). Pretty much the best choice for food at the Berkshires. Try to get there before the evening rush when everyone (and I mean everyone) comes to the Forge after a long, hard day at the slopes. Your stomach and patience will thank you for it ;)

Had my sister's bridal shower here this past weekend. I know what you're thinking....bridal shower? In a bar? Yep. Worked out wonderfully too. We had cocktails and apps in a private room on Saturday afternoon. The food was delicious (omg, GET the wings; they're SO damn good), drinks were great (tons of beers on tap), service was damn near perfect. The waitstaff was always there when we needed them, and not hovering when we didn't. I definitely left impressed. For food, we had the wings (YUM), crabcakes (cold by the time I got to them, but pretty good for bar crabcakes), baked brie (great), pasta w/ chicken & chick peas (kind of dry, but not bad), a bruschetta bar (oh, this was terrific! so many toppings, so little room in my tummy), and fruit and veggies w/ dip. There were so many other options we wanted to try, I guess I'll just have to go back and sample some more! 4 stars b/c the downstairs room, while very rustic and cute, was a bit dark. Needs more lighting, natural or artificial. But I loved that we had our own private bar and bartender down there. The function manager I worked with was the best. I had to coordinate this mostly via email, and she was always so fast to respond, flexible with everything, and patient to no end with my incessant questions. I will definitely look to plan more events here in the future.

We were told that this was the best restaurant in the area... Well, I feel sorry for the people who live there because this place sucks. First we had to wait 45 minutes to be seated. After standing in a small doorway for almost an hour with out any apology for the wait, we were finally seated. When we sat down the place looked really cool. It had a feel of an old New England pub. The time we were seated, to the time our waitress acknowledged us must have been another 25 minutes..Completely unacceptable. We ordered our food off a dirty and sticky paper menu and waited another half an hour for only a dozen (mediocre) wings. Then the waitress cleared our table and disappeared for another 20 minutes..no food or even water derive. By the time we go our entrees we were staving. However after the first bit we couldn't believe how bad the sandwiches were. We even switched some around and still couldn't finish them. After one of the most disappointing dinners of the year, we asked for the check. We figured that the waitress would pick up some speed to get her money..well we guessed wrong. Again another 15 minutes went by without a sight of our waitress... I honestly don't know why people would even consider this restaurant. Just stick to the resort and their restaurants (as over priced as they are) you'll have a better time

Cozy location in the Berkshire Mountains off of Route 7. They tout the largest beer selection in the area, and if that's your game, you'll love this spot. For me, the only reason I go is the wings. A frequent winner of the annual "Wing Fling" - these are succulent, juicy pieces of heaven. I hear positive reviews about their ribs and sandwiches, but once you've tried the wings you'll never order anything on the menu. It can be really crowded, especially if you have more than 4 in your party on weekends and parking in front is hard to come by.

Nothing bad here: all is good, including food, service, ambiance, seating areas (outdoors on the deck during nice weather overlooking mts). If within 30 mintues, give it a try. You will become a big fan. Priced right too.
