Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

My parents have been coming to this place since they were teenagers...From their stories, I'm happy to say that it sounds like the Riverview hasn't changed ONE bit over the years (their food or décor.) Want pizza? Good. Because that is the ONLY food they serve. No salads, no soups, no nothing. Don't even ask for parmesan cheese to sprinkle on your personal-sized pizza because guess what, they don't have it. You won't even get plates or silverware. Instead, swap all that "fancy" stuff for plastic utensils, wax paper, and the yummiest thin-crust pizza you will ever taste. Beers + pizza for 4 people, for $55? No brainer!! Great spot for locals :)

Even better cold for breakfast!

Have you been to riverview? If your answer is no -- what are you waiting for? If your answer is yes -- I bet you're already on your way back... The best of the best Riverview is a New England Staple!!!!! My vote is for the meatball pizza, add garlic and you won't regret it. $2 rolling rocks, yep thats right. Wax paper plates have a sort of charm that you can't deny and what happened to the metal forks? I loved one metal and one plastic utensil.. bring them back! I come back from New York and tend to make riverview pizza my FIRST stop--it seriously cannot be beat.

Pizza was really good. Everything was tasty and would enjoy having again. Soda was cold and sweet. The menu is limited, since it really is solely a pizza place. If you were hoping to get anything but pizza, look elsewhere. The only downside of this place is the space itself. The interior is super dark! They don't have any windows, so it was a little intimidating to go in at first, and once our group was in, it felt like we were in a cave. The parking lot is also small and tight, so be careful as you maneuver around. The staff and diners seemed like locals, but were all friendly enough. I thought this place was worth a cheap and tasty bite, if you are in the mood for some pizza. It's not a destination in itself. Seat yourself when you enter, and try a pie.

Riverview is the best pub pizza joint on the north shore. Step right back into the 50's and 60's when you walk into this establishment. The old school booths and signage are wicked cool and although you can tell right away it's totally a locals place the wait staff is very friendly and inviting. The pizza is simply amazing, tough to describe, because it's not a typical Italian or Greek style pizza, it just has the perfect blend of sauce cheese and dough to make this a classic pub style pizza. They put there toppings under the cheese and somehow this enhances the flavor in every bite. Overall although not around the corner from where I am in Methuen MA Riverview is more than worth the 40 min drive. I wish there were more pubs around serving this style pizza.

The first time I had Riverview, I was completely not impressed because it was so hyped up by my friend and by the time it reached my house it was cold and I had no idea what to expect other than "the best pizza ever". I'm very happy to say that I let my friend take me to the place for a second chance and I gotta say, I'm hooked.... The Chef's Special is my favorite pie. When this pizza is hot and fresh it is so simply great, I don't even have more words to describe it really... You just gotta go and eat it there. Is this like every other pizza place? No. But that's what makes it great, it is a thing entirely of its own. The atmosphere is dark and retro, but its also friendly, and down to earth. I felt very at home here. I will be going to Riverview for as long as I can.

I have been coming to Ipswich for these pizza since I was little...almost 25 years! This is the hands down best pizza I have ever had. My whole family would agree and I have discussed the merits of their pizza with complete strangers. The thin crust, the perfect sauce and the cheese is just perfect. They don't sell anything but pizza and you cannot complain about it once you've been there. The hours are funny, parking can be difficult (go early!!) but its worth it! So they have plastic utensils and parchment paper for plates it's part of the experience! You'll want to get your own pizza too, not for sharing and you'll be lucky if you have left overs because you won't be able to do anything but pig out. A classic local spot that is one of my very favorite places on earth!
(5)C L.
Great Pizza - very well designed & run restaurant. We left the beach and called in for take out. Upon arrival there was a line out the door. Best pizza ever! Look forward to returning soon.
(5)Alex V.
The best pizza around. Not the best ever, but you take what you can get. It has that old run down look of a restaurant that is so successful it does care, and I mean that as a compliment. Easily the best pizza sauce I've had at a restaurant.
(4)Dana C H.
Have heard about this place for awhile now(moved to Ipswich two years ago). Had high expectations, considering pizza a food of the gods. Talk about a hidden gem. Off a side street of a side street tucked in a neighborhood. Walking in the door it reminded me of a great pizza place on the New Hampshire sea coast(high benchmark to meet). This did not disappoint. Price quality perfect for a great local pizza place(every town needs one).
(5)David L.
The best individual pizzas in the North Shore at very reasonable prices. We are a family of 4 and all Italian so when it comes to pizza we are particular where we go! We usually order 4 pizzas with different toppings and share. We love it!
(5)Gary D.
This is Some of the best Thin crust pizza on the North Shore. Great Sauce, great dough, standard pizza toppings, awesome down home family feel, very friendly staff. Everybody should eat here once, and when you do you'll come back.
(5)Abby H.
A true New England hidden Gem! If you're looking for a great pizza you'll find it in the quaint town of Ipswich! This pizza is no joke- a whole pie is to be ordered per individual, kiddos can share, of course, but you won't want to share it at all! Parking is a bit of a tricky endeavor, but half the fun!
(5)Ryan Y.
Best pizza on the north shore. I've been here many times and I've never once been disappointed. Highly recommended!
(5)F M.
I have been going to Riverview pizza since childhood when we had our Birthday parties there after going to the old Bowling Alley ... Always been the best pizza around.. Something has changed recently .It did not taste like the original River view pizza and trust me I know my River view Pizza back when Jimmy made them . The dough was not thin and had a different texture and sauce ? ...We ordered two a combo and a cheese as always. But this was nothing like our usual from there and they tasted gross .Very disappointed we have been avid customers for years . Fed most of it to our dogs I'm afraid. I suggest stop cutting corners and go back to the way they always have been .Sometimes the extra is worth it . Time to find new spot after 40 some odd years .
(1)Bill B.
Great pizza, some of the best around in all the North Shore. I've been known to put down 2 pizzas in one setting. It's must try and you can take that to the bank since it's coming from Bill B.
(5)Kevin C.
The personal pizzas are alright. The prices for food and drinks are exceptional. The atmosphere is outdated and unclean. I'd go again, but never take a date there.
(4)N D.
They do Pizza. 1 size. Cold draft beer. Cash only. Great Staff and owners. If there was an actual "river view" I'd give 5 stars. Otherwise it's perfect as is
(4)Mike G.
This place may be good to locals, but it is nothing special. The food is only hot if you eat it there in one of their uncomfortable booths. every time we've ordered out, the pizza is ice cold. Drink prices are reasonable. I know this is a local restaurant but with the tourists, they do more than enough business to accept credit cards. It is rather pathetic management / ownership is that cheap that they do not want to 1) Update their POS Systems, 2)Become PCI Compliant, 3) Accept credit cards. In this day and age, this is unacceptable.
(2)Anthony D.
Great bar style personal pizzas and that's it. They have one thing on the menu and they have perfected it. We live in town so we go there often (probably too often) but it is always worth it. Waitstaff and employees are generally very friendly some saltier than others but that comes with the territory, adds character. This place is an institution must visit if you are in the area or willing to make the drive.
(5)Zero W.
Their thin crust is inedible with the taste and texture of cardboard. Again, is there some law in Ipswich requiring pizza to be swimming in excess sauce? Or have the townies never had decent pizza and don't know better?
(2)George A.
Okay...read the reviews...common thread..CHEAP. We asked for double cut - answer by the owner: "we don't do that"... funny how every other place does. My wife asked for parmesian cheese..owner: "we don't have that". Folks, spend a couple of bucks more and go elsewhere. The pizza is bigger and the real deal. Yup - that owner is some accomadating firecracker making money because its 'cheap' to go there.
(2)Central S.
I grew up eating riverview pizza. If's amazing, affordable, and a great place to take your family. There is nothing fancy about this place. Just great food and beer.
(5)Chris D.
We. Love. Riverview. It sets the bar (heh) for a fun night out: good pizza, good beer, cheap. Cash only, but we don't mind. Pizza hits the spot (this is bar pizza, not fancy pizza), beer is cheap enough. Add more beers on draught and you get an easy five stars (good thing I love Bass).
(4)Shawn Z.
Ok, so first time I ordered there, I got a pepperoni pizza. Got it home, bit into an onion that was underneath the cheese, which I'm sure was a mistake. It ruined the experience, none the less, due to problems I have with certain foods, onions being one of them, so I just threw it away in fear of biting into another hidden onion. Second time I tried this place, SAME EXACT THING. So, since I'm a "third time's the charm" kind of guy, I tried yet again. This time I mentioned the previous two experiences with the onion issue to the order taker and they assured me it would be fine this time. Guess what.....same experience as the first two. Never again. I have warned others of their carelessness and disregard and apparently they don't keep their toppings clear enough from one another, which is shameful if you come to think of people's food allergies or reactions. Definitely a "locals only" kind of place. That is the only reason I can think of to enjoy the cold pizza when served, overly thick and too sweet sauce, very little cheese, greasy, and clumpy/uneven thickness of too thin crust....is the nostalgia of probably going there as a kid and growing up with it. They only take cash, which I find odd for a bar and that's really inconvenient for some of us that don't like to carry cash. They don't have paper plates to give you. The hours aren't that great if you want it for lunch (open at 4pm??). Pizza slices very uneven every time. To sum up, 3 experiences, all 3 terrible. I wouldn't take a free pizza from them. I'd rather cook up a $1 Totino's from Walmart.
(1)Doug I.
Meh. I would like the pizza more if the sauce wasn't so sweet. Take Regina's and double the sweetness factor and this is what you got. Lots of sauce and a thin layer of cheese. The crust was nice and buttery. It's not bad pizza but I wasn't blown away. Maybe I need to sample more of the menu - there were some great looking pies coming through the restaurant. I called in an order for two cheese pizzas when I was 15 mins away. 45 mins later I had my order. And it was raining so everyone was waiting inside and this place is beyond cramped. Parking is terrible. Pizza comes in only a small size but they do keep it affordable. No big egos here. The staff was very friendly even with the large crowd. This is a *locals* place. Part 1970s dive bar and part pizzeria. It's a throwback (cash only!) Maybe they should separate the two better. If you lived within walking distance it would be a lively and fun local joint. But based on my experience I wouldn't go out of your way for it.
(3)Kathleen H.
Awesome pizza. They serve pizza. Pizza; it's what they service. Serve Pizza, they do. And because that's all they serve, it's possible that they'll do it very well. You know, because of lots of practice. And they do indeed do it well. Thin crispy/chewy crust, delicious ingredients. . .a homey boothy atmosphere, everyone an their cousin from Ipswich is in there - I work nearby, can't believe I never tried it before. Probably because they're only open for dinner, and I try to be gone by then. I might be adjusting my schedule to take advantage of and aprés -work pizza pie now an again, now that I know about this Ipswich townie gem. Pizza and Beer. . . it's what's for dinner.
(4)Claire B.
When a restaurant only serves one thing it can be hit or miss but this is some of the best pizza around! Thin crust pieces of deliciousness that's been the same for the last 40+ years. Don't miss this experience.
(5)Jimmy B.
First time there last night,,LOVE the old school, dive bar feel..Ordered a pepperoni and a Magic Hat. Prices are excellent! VERY reasonable as this is what a pizza and beer should cost. Pizza was awesome,,great sauce, lotsa cheese...Only negative? I hardly carry cash and when I was done, waitress informed me 'CASH ONLY!!" This would have better to know before ordering like say, a sign? and also the service was very, very bad. Like I personally did something to offend the young lady..took forever to order, forgot requests and asked me "how is it?" was when I was waiting,,and waiting,,and waiting to pay. I'd go back and maybe sit at the bar.
(3)David C.
Delicious crispy, sweet pizza with a hint of more delicious! I can't say enough good things about this place. I'm new to town, (Only lived in Rowley for a few months now), and i gotta say, if there's a way to end a friday night, this is it. I went here last week, and had a wonderful time. The place isn't dog friendly, sure, but what the hell, it's a pizza place in ipswich, not a restaurant in boston. I didn't expect to be able to seat my pups, realistically. (Though it would have been nifty to see it all the way up here) Anyway, the pizza! Don't expect to get chicken fingers here, no fries, no shakes. This place is 100% old fashioned grade A pizza. The pizzas come in a personal size, (From what i can see around, 13 inches,) and man, are they delicious. Soda is like a dollar a pop, but i went out on a limb and grabbed myself a white russian. Delicious! Best white russian i've had in this town so far. (Including the sports bar, sorry frank!) This place was a little loud, but it had a homey charm to it, felt like eating in your grandpa's dusty old log cabin. (without the dust.) The floors have a tiling made to distract the eye from dirt, but i'd venture the place is pretty clean. The chefs come in and out of the kitchen regularly, so i ventured a chat with one, and he seemed quite pleasant and happy to be working there. All in all, i give this place the highest rating i can. Be sure to stop here if you're ever in ipswich, i know i will certainly be!
(5)Eric R.
Good pizza, worst service I have ever had! Will never go back again. Other places have just as good pizza but with way better service! Rudest waiters no one greets at the door and it takes forever to have a server come to your table and then takes forever go get your pizza after you order! Will never ever go again! Not worth it!
(1)Lauren S.
quick, easy, and delicious! order from here probably once a week. have been going here since I was a kid!
(5)Sam F.
I can't believe I've never written a review for this place! Let me start by saying if I lived closer to this place I would be there at least 2x a week! Seriously! On your first visit you think, oh boy, the food and service is going to be horrible. I won't lie, it looks like a big dive! However, always clean, service is great, and the pizza to die for! The pizza isn't complicated, thin crust dough, sauce, cheese, and usually a meat or they have veggie pizza, etc. Nothing fancy about it, but have to say some of the best pizza I ever had! It hit me last night why I liked it so much, because it really reminded me of the pizza my mother used to make. Again her pizza was very simple and delicous! I'm a pizza lover and this has to be one of the best on the North Shore. Oh did I mention the prices are incredibly cheap too. Most pizzas are $7 or less. Granted I could eat a whole one myself, so get a few for the table and eat up!
(5)Aimee D.
Not sure what all the hoopla is about. This pizza is ok. Not my style as I prefer a Greek style pizza. Yes, it's cheap, but the pizzas are very small. You'd need to order at least 4 for a family of 4-5.
(3)Allison G.
Best pizza and so cheap!! Our favorite place to go or to dine there. Serve pizza on WAx paper=love it!
(5)Glenn C.
One of our favorites! Small pizza's but the price reflects that! Always thin and delicious! Figure 3\4 pizza per adult.
(5)Juliet A.
Townie 'za joint, and it is oh-so-good. My husband's favorite (well...his whole family's favorite) since childhood. You'll find people here on dates, with a group of friends, or families. Riverview appeals to everyone. Pizza is thin-crusted and done to perfection. Every kind of topping you can imagine. Great sauce. Awesome prices (around $7 for an individual, which will satisfy a grown man). Full bar with lots of beer on tap - including Magic Hat #9. Only downside is that they only take cash.
(5)Sean G.
This is some of the best pizza I have ever had! You can not go wrong.
(5)Sean S.
Took the kids and met up with some friends and their kids. The Riverview is a little worn (a throwback to 1972), but the pizzas are pretty satisfying and inexpensive. Fed four adults and four kids (Dad's had two beers each, kids and wife's had sodas), check arrived and it was $55. Nothing fancy, but you leave feeling full and not rippd off
(4)Kate L.
I really love all of the people who say "I've been coming here since I was a baby"...I agree, same here! Whenever I go home to visit my parents, I try to fit in a Riverview visit. The pizza is the stuff dreams are made of. My only regret is that I feel like a fat ass after I eat the whole thing... Sweet sauce, perfect amount of cheese, awesome toppings, and cheap, to boot! Definitely worth fighting over parking for...
(5)Miss P.
LOVE riverview. Cheap delicious pizza! Im originally from Ipswich, so Ive been eating riverview for over 10 years. If you havent had it, you should try it! Crunchy delicious crust.... yum
(4)Eddie C.
Cheap Drinks and Great pizza! Some days a wait to be seated but not a major issue for the experience. It's the only go to place for pizza in Ipswich as far as I'm concerned.
(4)Lisa J.
I dream about this pizza. No joke. Something about the sauce I think. I don't even know but it's seriously heaven. My mom brought me here because she grew up in Essex and went as a kid and now whenever I'm home from Philly we make the hour drive from Exeter, NH to Ipswich just to indulge. Pizzas are fairly small. I usually order an entire one just for myself. Meatball is my fav but the combinations are amazing as well!
(5)Doug T.
Excellent and cheap thin crust pizza. Great atmosphere, good food, great prices.
(4)Cody S.
The Riverview is a true classic townie joint. Nothing has been touch here and it is it sparkling clean. You can go in with $10 to get a pizza and drink. The paper thin and sweet bar pie over priced between $6 and 10. no drinks over $4 and they are stong and cheap. A beer is the same price of a soda elsewhere. As for the service it is take it or leave no frills but fun. This place is a must visit to experience a local dive. Just a warning Cash only and no plates. just pizza.
(5)H J.
Yum, yum, YUM. I came here with my BFF and as a vegan, ordered a veggie pizza no cheese. Who needs cheese?? There were plenty of delicious veggies, and plenty of $3 Bass on draft. My new favorite.
(5)Mallory S.
I loved Riverview! I have only been twice, but if I lived closer I think I would be here quite often. Personal pizzas are the perfect size - not too small, not too large, but definiitely won't leave you hungry. My keilbasa pizza and Sam Adams cost about $10. What a great deal! Service was quick. Only cons: the wait can be long (but worth it!), no free refills on soda, and it's cash only! Can't wait to go back!
(4)Herb Z.
I came here the for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. These types of pizza places are a dying breed lately. You can't beat the price for the quality of pizza. I think it's not quite as good as Santarpio's in Peabody, but the overall experience is nicer. The staff is also very good too. One of the few places on the North Shore that doesn't have oil Greek Pizza.
(4)Jay O.
Any negative reviews about this place are from people who just don't get it. Do I wish they took credit cards? Sure I do. But sacrifice that for one of a kind pizza that makes my mouth water just thinking about it? I'll hit an ATM. You'd have to be from the area to get it. Don't ever change, Riverview. Only bad thing? I have Mondays off and have for years. Guess what day they are closed?
(5)J. L.
What can be said about the Riverview that hasn't been said by in comments already? Well.....nothing, really. I seriously do not think that any combination of their many options could create a pizza that would be anything less than "outstanding." The Riverview boasts a unique approach to pizza that is both traditional and familiar...and eventually turns into an addiction in most cases. And for the price, you really feel and taste that you got more than your moneys worth. It's quality all-around. The Riverview is in a class of its own as a unique institution that deserves to remain on the map forever. Delicious, charismatic, family-owned and one-of-a-kind, the Riverview is worthy of all its praise and (continued) success.
(5)Guillermo S.
Finally went there on a Friday night around 6-ish and the first thing you notice is the smell of baking pizza dough wafting down the street. The second thing you notice is that the place looks like a VFW Moose Lodge or someone's house. Might be a little easy to miss for some. It was mobbed with both to-go people waiting around and those waiting for tables. So we had a couple beers while waiting at the tiny bar which was standing room only. Nice beer selection by the way - I had a Sierra while expecting only Bud, Miller, etc... So the place has its charm. It felt a little like being at Uncle Earl's lake house up in Maine...the type of place you can't figure out which post -WWII decade you're in, but that's cool. A lot of wood paneling and a jukebox - not sure if it works. So we finally get seated and have some pies ordered up. One pepperoni and one plain done up old-way. We finally get them served after a longer-than-you'd-like wait and unfortunately, they were served far from piping-hot. But we were starved so we dug in and they were indeed tasty, not too greasy, and the thin crust was awesome in the way that simple homemade goodness can only provide. The old way pizza was fun and I like the way the tomato sauce (on top of the cheese) took on a little carmelization which added a nice flavor. If you are hungry then maybe 2 pizzas per person works best as they are on the small side (we're talking both diameter and thickness). You can also change up your orders with some 50/50 topping selections. They put a lot of effort into pricing out their menu with split-topping choices as it nearly takes over their menu. I guess split-toppings are serious business for them Ipswichers! :) Next time I will check it out on a weeknight and forgo the endless Little League banquet that seems to be going on during the weekends. But it is definitely a place you want to visit...and go with an empty stomach and a craving for beer. Out of all the beer and pizza places I've been this is the best. Their pizza is made for a beer pairing like no other...and I think it is all because of that damn good crust.
(4)Rob C.
I have been eating here since I was a kid and the place hasn't changed at all. It has a very cozy, no frills atmosphere (they serve the pizza on wax paper, not plates.) I have only ate in a few times because the wait can be pretty long, I usually get takeout. They also have a full bar so you can sip on a drink while waiting. The pizza is made to order and amazing, don't let the low price fool you. If you are in the area and want some great pizza, this is the place for you!
(5)Sam L.
I agree with the review below. This is probably the closest it comes to being the best in New England. I think Pinos or Prestos in Brookline might have better flavor (depends on what you prefer) but this riverview restaurant has the best crust. Thin and Chewy. Great cheese. I'm deprived of NY Pizza but happy i can live at least another year in new england with a go to pizza joint.
(4)Jim G.
Greatest pizza I've ever had. Try it, you will be amazed.
(5)Skeezy B.
The Riverview is a North Shore thing. Don't even come up here and stink up the joint if your from towns like Quincy, Plymouth or Braintree. We don't want your kind. But if you know the joys that come from hanging out at Crane's or mowing down Bill and Bob's hammered at 2am, than enter with a clear conscience. You will be greeted by...well, no one. Get your lazy ass to the bar and find an empty seat. And if there is a wait, take the numbered washer and wait your damn turn you lousy tourist. I prefer to hang at the bar, if there is an open seat in the 8 stools they have. It doesn't speed up your service or anything, I just like to be as close to booze as possible because I'm a no good alcoholic. Enjoy a stiff cocktail or a beer, neither of which will be outlandishly priced. The pizza, dear sweet Jesus, the pizza. Put it this way. Do you have a cute pet or a child? I would punch them in the face if it meant I got to have Riverview pizza in return. It's that serious. Order a pie for yourself and get your filthy clam-digging hands off of mine. If you decide to bring your cute kid, whom I just punched in the face in the previous paragraph, they have a juke box which hasn't been updated since 1992 and 2 video games from that time frame as well. Sideshow entertainment for your kid, whose nursing a black eye, will cost you about 2 American dollars so they can hear Alvin and the Chipmunks sing "Achy Breaky Heart" and play Neo-Geo. So go forth, except on Mondays when they are closed, and enjoy. Unless of course you are from the filthy South Shore.

I've been all around the world, including Italy, but I would rank Riverview as one of the best pizzas I have ever had. They really only serve one thing: pizza. And they do it well!! Every pizza is hand made thin crust. They do not use some preformed dough, either. It is from a ball of dough, just as you would do at home. The sauce is unique and to die for, yet not very acidic (which is the problem I have with many pizza places. It actually has bits of tomato in it, as well. The toppings are many and quit generous. They are very good with customizing your pizza, as well. Is you are looking for a good pizza, this is the place. When home on leave from the military, this is one of he first places I always came. It is the best in the area!!
(5)Amy N.
We grab pizza from Riverview at least twice a month. The individual pies are the perfect size and the crust is simple and thin. It's cash only and the ONLY thing they serve is pizza. Don't expect much more than just really delicious / cheap pizza....it's a cozy local joint.....and we love it!!
(5)Erin M.
Best pizza in town. Brings people from all over. I would order one pizza per person, and they're only $6 each.
(5)Dawn R.
I dreamed of this pizza last night. Many endless discussions about why this pizza is so good. Is it the crust or the sauce? I could just eat the crust and be happy but I could drink the sauce and be content as well. This is just some old school pizza genius. Nothing fancy. No gourmet crap. Just get a damn cheese pizza and relish it. It has been years since I moved away but back in the day they didn't even have plates. Who the hell needs em'? God how I miss this pizza. And the price! You get an entire pie here for what you sometimes can pay for a slice in the big city. As for the service... Who cares? You're in MA - everyone is an asshole.

Holy sweet jesus, The View strikes again! Last week I my brother was home, so Riverview was mandatory. Got take out, took it back to our parents house, and I devastated that pie. It never saw me coming. I got the kielbasa and meatball, extra sauce. One thing I had noticed before, the meatballs were a little smaller than they used to be. Not this time, they were large and plentiful. The pizza was loaded with that tasty sauce. I could go for one or three right now. For reals. If you're reading this and haven't been there yet, what the eff is stopping you?

This the best thin crust pizza I have ever had in the united states! The restaurant is a little run down but it has a lot of character and as I said earlier the pizza is "the best"!

Simple good pizza. Limited toping choices and limited drink selection. Don't let the deter you. This place is a gem. Excellent pizza and service with a smile. Plan ahead, Riverview is a popular hotspot for good pie.

Exactly what a pizza house used to be around 1981, and once you walk in you realize the place hasn't changed a wink. Good beer selection, nice bar, and good pizza. INEXPENSIVE. Go where the locals go. It's like a time warp that you'll love being lost in.

I've been eating pizza here since I was eight years old. This place is a local institution, and great in so many ways. First, all they serve is pizza- no salads, subs, etc., so be ready to eat pizza, period. The parking lot is tiny, and the place is often crowded, but thankfully, street parking is allowed. The decor reminds me of my parents' basement the way we decorated it when we were ten years old- pine paneled walls with a few Budweiser mirrors and such that were probably acquired with skee-ball tickets at a fair. It's a loud, family-friendly, working-class kind of place. Most of the pizza slingers are grizzled but nice older ladies. Onto the pizza. Riverview is one of only two places I have ever gotten New England style pizza (the other being my elementary school). The difference: cheddar is substituted for the mozzarella. It works- nothing has quite the flavor of browned cheddar, and it makes their pizza stand out from other places. The sauce is tangy, and the crust is thin and crispy and slightly oily on the outside, as it should be. It's pretty rare to find a pizza place in which none of the elements (crust, sauce, and cheese) disappoints, which must be why I sometimes find myself driving 30 minutes out of my way for a pie, with other options (like The Upper Crust) within walking distance. Generally, the wait for pizza is long, with a truly bittersweet ending. The famished eater is finally presented with a delicious, aromatic pizza, usually served at a tepid 400 degrees F. When it finally comes, try to resist the temptation to dig right into it or risk third degree burns to your mouth. Do sadistic mothers like to teach their children the virtues of patience by coming here? Pizzas are small (1 per person is about right for a modest eater). I've enjoyed the meatball and salami, but plain old cheese is the best. I love spicy food, so I know that sounds boring and lame, but it really is good- try it.

Your expectations don't what hit 'em. It's an old school feel that you can't make up with Pizza you've never quite had before. "Pizza and a beer" was likely born here for many North Shore residents. I've been going since I could chew solids. The waitresses are all retired school teachers but the wait never retires. Get there expecting a few minutes before you sit. Or order by phone for pick up. In one word: classic.

it's gets a four only because of the bad service. but i'm a forgiving person and I'm sure our waitress was having a bad day. we'll see next time. this pizza is something close to the grimaldi's pizza from brooklyn. since i've gotten used to eating new england premade pizzas at pizzerias(when i first got a pie in new england i got so angry cuz every pizzeria in NJ or NY makes their pizza on their own. Not some boxed thing that they throw into a oven.) anyways. the highlights of this place. every pizza except for the Everything pizza ($10) is under 8 dollars. each pizza is big enough for two to share. and they serve alcohol. don't expect some fancy interior design tho. it's a plain old pub pizzeria. but their pizza beats all the pizzas in the northshore. now, my quest is to to find a real NY pizza place around here. oh yeah. forgot to mention. they don't get many asians in the place so don't get freaked out by their staring if you are yellow. i've never had another man stare at me like that. actually, never had a woman stare at me like that either. i got to experience what hot girls go through everyday.

I've been eating this pizza my entire life, and it can't be beat if you like thin, crispy crust, not too much cheese, and a tasty tomato sauce backdrop to whatever toppings you can think of. This place only sells pizza - served on wax paper no less! - and it they are master-pizzas! Riverview is small, often crowded with little parking, and a little dark on the inside (my grandparents can only handle take out now), but the jukeboxes are fabulous and the bar is great, so if you want to take a date to a North Shore stable restaurant, this is it.

As far as a good pizza for a good price, Riverview is where its at. Great for those on a budget, but want a good pizza.
(5)Lee B.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!! :) so good and so cheap! Nothing compares to this pizza, our favorites are meatball, chicken and broccoli with no sauce, and the combo with kielbasa. YUM!
(5)C. B.
Great place to go if you're looking for inexpensive, but tasty, pizza and beer. They serve individual pizzas with a very thin crust that are quite delicious. It is a very casual atmosphere, and everything is quite affordable. They have a great reputation, so they are always quite busy making it so the service isn't always fantastic, but the food is great, and if you bring good friends/family with you, you're in for a good time!
(5)Adam W.
Love the Riverview! The pizza is great, and also the only thing on the menu, one size and cheap. One beer on tap, Bass. The juke box has the same songs in it as it did when we went there in high school. This place is just amazing. I live 30 miles away and still try to get there like 3 times a month. This is an Ipswich institution.
(5)Michelle M.
SOO FLIPPIN GOOD!!!! I just had bad pizza in Connecticut and wish I was home so that I could of gotten a Riverview pizza..... Its awesome!
(5)Anastasia C.
Very good pizza. I wouldn't split this with anyone. Each person gets their own pizza here, or at least they should (and they're really cheap, so why not?). The toppings are pretty standard, but things become standard for a reason. The garlic pizza is excellent and so is the onion pizza. The mushrooms seem to be from a can and usually that bugs me, but Riverview does something to them that makes them taste much better. The drinks are cheap, too. Seat yourself in one of the booths in this wood paneled haven but don't come before 4 pm or on a Monday. There's take out, but I like to eat in, even if its a little crazy sometimes.

THE BEST PIZZA ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH. I may have just dug my own grave since sometimes I wait for an hour for one of their delicous, I can eat one alone, pizza. Small bar style pizza. I may have to wait longer after more discover this place. Cheap eats, with no frills.

A friend of ours from work has been trying to get us to try the Riverview for a good year now. Well, we finally went. It was a Tues night around 6 so it wasn't that busy. We are really glad we went. The pizza was fantastic ! As we were told, the pizzas were not that big, one pizza per person is just right. I had the meatball and kielbasa. My wife had the pepperoni. Both were great ! The beers are cheap and ice cold. The place is small but that didn't matter. The service is very attentive and the staff is very pleasant. We will be returning !!

Fantastic pizza. Great combination of thin, crispy crust, good sauce (not too sweet like some), and a flavorful mix of cheeses. Friendly service when we picked up our food, and although we had to walk a couple of blocks, it was no trouble to park on the street temporarily. Not sure I'd eat there, because I'm not into crowds, but I'd definitely take out from here again. The only thing to keep in mind is that this place does not open until 4pm, so plan accordingly.

This place has the besstttttttttt pizzas. I came here a few years ago and loved it. I hadn't been there in a while and decided that it was time to reacquaint myself with this wonderful place. The place has a really cool atmosphere and the food is just delicious. I love coming here, and the pizza is pretty damn cheap. You can get a cheese pizza for about 5$ I think and it's so good. I really recommend this place. I plan on coming back soon!
(5)Emily H.
I'm surprised to be the first to write a review for this place! I ate here for the first time last night and I will definitely be back. Their pizza is killer. Each pie is $5-7 depending on the toppings you choose. You have your choice of bar or booth. The waitresses are friendly, and the cocktails come fast. This is exactly what I look for in a pizza place--good food, good drinks, cheap prices. They open at 4 most days, so it's definitely a dinner joint. The pizza is somewhat small. The crust is chewy on the inside, crispy on the outside. The sauce is really tasty--a basic marinara with a liberal amount of herbs spread on top. I got the mushroom pizza, and they were generous with the toppings. Yum! Just make sure you bring cash--no credit or debit cards accepted.

My lady told me about this hidden pizza-only joint up in her neck o' the woods so we agreed to check it out as she had not been since she was a youngin' and I had never been. As expected, it was very busy on a Friday night proving that we were not the only people with the bright idea of enjoying pizza at Riverview Restaurant. Anyway, we received our number and waited about 15 minutes to be seated. We were skipped over twice, according to our number, though the bartender was very good about yelling, "Don't worry number 15, we haven't forgot about you. We've just had larger tables become available first." That should be a sign of relief to all of you nervous nellies who get anxious when you've put your name down at a busy restaurant and see people who got there after you getting seated before you. That includes me. So we sat down and it took about 15-20 minutes for our waitress to come over to our table and take our order. At first, we found the wait to be extremely annoying and ridiculous because we believed that by this point in its existent, Riverview should know very well how to handle the large and expected volume of dine-in and takeout customers on weekends. Long story short, our waitress turned things around by being very friendly and attentive from the time she took our order until we left the restaurant. The pizza is pretty dang good and you can choose from basic topping choices (pepperoni, sausage, peppers, onions, meatball, etc.). The prices are VERY cheap. Beer, pizza, soda, wine, you name it and it's cheap. Placemats instead of plates, plastic utensils, cash only and about a 30 minute wait for your pizza once your order is placed (they are also pumping out massive takeout orders from the same oven). Definitely worth checking out if you find yourself in the area and want to enjoy good pizza.

North Shore classic is right. This used to be a big outing for us up until I was in high school. Admittedly I haven't been there in ages but I have great memories. The place was always packed, a little old school, nice, thin crust pizza. My brother sent me a message recently rubbing in the fact that he had 4 riverview pizzas that week. Lucky!
(4)William S.
I grew up in Ipswich and Riverview is the first place I hit when I get home. As any local knows, the place is always packed, so consider take out and call ahead. The pie is delicious, but even better for breakfast the next day.. so get 2.

If this place were a person, it would be an S&M master. I swear. You walk in and you can smell the pizza everywhere around you. Makes sense, aside from soda and alcohol, pizza is the only thing they serve here. If you're lucky you're seated right away, and that's when the torture, the teasing, the taunting, all begins. You wait patiently to place your order. The poor harried waitress swings by hurriedly and briskly takes your order. Your drinks will come rather swiftly but your pizzas... oh those beloved pizzas, they shall take a while. It wouldn't be so difficult to wait if it wasn't for that glorious smell that seems to surround you. You start to eye your fellow patrons with envy as tables around you receive their pizzas. At some point you consider snatching a pie from the table next to you but you somehow manage to contain yourself. You go up and put some money int he jukebox to try to pass the time and then it happens. You see the waitress coming out of the kitchen with your pizzas and you practically skip gleefully back to your table. But once again they tease you because the pizza is piping hot from their ovens and you have to wait once again. Or do you? Because at this point the smell and the proximity of your pie are driving you mad with desire. The hell with it, you're gonna bite right in and to hell with third degree burns. After all, what's pleasure without a little pain, right? At least that's the way it goes in this joint. Go here, you won't be able to resist. P.S. Not open on Mondays! All other days they open at 4pm
(5)Hannah L.
yummy cheap pizzas. cheap beers or coolers. a jukebox. what can be better than that? i love how it hasn't been updated since like 1980 and how if you go at 5:00 dinner, its full of old people and babies. it's pretty much in a random area with nothing else cool around it in a residentail part of ipswich, but i think the out-of-the-way-ness of adds to the riverview experience.

I've been to this place. Twice. And while I love the casual, small-town atmosphere, the pizza really needs some improvement. Really. While I don't mind the sauce nor the amount of the cheese, the crust feels like cardboard; the texture is just reprehensible. I'd be willing to give it another shot, especially since I enjoy the casual decor so much. But as of those last two visits, no dice. I do hope to be writing a better review in the future!

great pie! perfect size for the price. can't wait to go back! had the meatball pizza...what a meatball! mmm mmm mmm
(4)anne s.
The pizza joint that time forgot. It is like a basement rec room from the 70's minus the orange shag carpeting, but with all the beer promotional products. Also windowless, so you are forced to eyeball the other patrons as the maddening minutes tick tock by till your pizza finally arrives. Heavenly! Just delish..the thin crust has a singular taste almost like homemade popcorn. This pizza is really different, someone said the cheese is cheddar cheese. Anyway it is awesome. Glad you enjoy pizza because it is the ONLY thing on the menu. No salad, no apps, no bread, no ziti, no choice of sizes, NO PLATES, NO KNIVES, no credit cards accepted, just forks, and pizza. Oh, and plenty of beer and booze. Only in Ipswich or some dive in Northern Wisconsin. Whatever ,its all working like a charm. Takeout pizza is moving out the door in towers, patrons are stacked five deep at the bar, everyone seems to know each other and visits between tables. The only draw back is the tortuous wait, especially with children. Bring something for them to do as the waitresses DO NOT come buy with darling boxes of crayons and balls of dough to play with. No way. Dinner for four was $13 and great memories. Enjoy!

I have been coming here since I was an infant, in fact, my mom has been coming here since high school, that was 47 years ago. I judge all other pizza places on the planet by the Riverview standard. There is simply nothing better in the pizza genre than a combination special, extra heavy on all ingredients, with salami as a base, but be careful because that salami is hidden under everything else & with their super thin crust, it gets hotter than your dashboard, sitting in traffic on 128, in mid July....I burn my mouth every single time, but still seem to forget this with the arrivial of a fresh pie....
(5)Michael H.
AWESOME Pizza. We eat here regularly, but it's not always consistent. Sometimes it'll be under or overcooked, and sometimes you'll get more cheese or sauce than other times. It is never bad though, just not always the same. There is almost always an awful wait, and if you call ahead you can pretty much add 15 minutes to however long they say it will take. The pizza is very good though, and their sauce is out of this world. The prices are VERY reasonable, almost too reasonable, $5 for a pizza that is almost too much for one person, but definitely not enough for two people.
(4)jay g.
the sauce is great, the dough is great, the cheese is terrible. i think they use all cheddar or something. doesn't work on pizza in my opinion.
(3)honey b.
the best pizza around alway the same can't go wrong with this place.
(4)J W.
Let's be clear here: 1) Pizza 2) Beer 3) Mixed drinks 4) Soda 5) Wine 6) do not ask for anything else. I have to give them 4-out-of-5 stars because for being an Ipswich restaurant, I am regularly disappointed they do not carry Ipswich Ale, _at all_. That said, they have a sufficient beer selection to satisfy the majority of tastes. The pizzas are small, priced accordingly, tasty, thin-crust, tasty, and tasty. They are good hot and cold. It is a close (cozy?) establishment with a great townie charm. Yes, that might sound odd in a positive review, but this isn't Pizza Hut, or some other franchise establishment. This is an excellent, for a cold beer and a hot pizza.

Was our first time coming to this restaurant and we were very excited to try the delicious pizza everybody had been talking about on Yelp. We got seated within 10 minutes (Good), waitress came and took our order (Good so far), then waited 35 minutes only for the waitress to comeback and tell us that she forgot to put our order in. 15 minutes later Pizza arrived and turned out to be great! but the service wasn't pleasant.. They are too busy and wont keep track of who ordered and who didn't. Willing to give this place a 2nd chance but I see that it may be better off to order for takeout rather than wait and eat at the restaurant.
(2)Sam K.
No idea why people give this such a high star rating, pizza was so basic, and the sauce wasn't good at all, tastes like any town house of pizza joint, nothing special.
