Fourth or fifth time here. Two pet peeves; hostess making people wait when dining room is half empty, and an empty glass during the meal. Seems to be a bare minimum expectation for fine dining service. Not even close here. Had a table of five and boy, was it uncomfortable, between the oversized menus and lack of table space, there was no nothing to do but hold the menus and hope that servers would appear. Poor service and overall experience. Still come for the Italian spring rolls with marinara and provolone fondue sauces.

This is a great place for the south shore - a nice outside bar and good environment for parties of anysize. The good: the menu is diverse, but not overwhelming and has the right blend of italian and american options. the menu and drink menu suprises for what i'd expect from a restaurant in a mall-like setting. the gnocchi are to die for and the homemade ice cream is quite tasty. The not so good: the prices for the portion size could be better - while the meat dishes were large, the pasta and seafood were quite small.

Went today July 16, 2013. Waitress Kristen was phenomenal. Quick service. Food was wonderful. Only thing negative is it is a bit pricey.

Birra Moretti, arencini balls, linguine and veal meatballs... This is my go to combo and is ALWAYS epic and tastes amazing! Great environment, the wait staff is pretty good but the food is ALWAYS really delicious! Side note - they have both indoor and outdoor seating!

Great place for an appetizer and an drink at the tall tables near the bar. No reservations required at those tables, but you may have to wait a while!

We received a gift card to the Rustic Kitchen over the summer and finally had time to check it out a few weeks ago. My husband and I both felt the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The reception staff was very friendly and our waiter George was fantastic! George helped make a few suggestions, was very personable and attentive. The chive gnocchi were flavorful and portion size was ample. Their white bean olive oil dip for the crusty bread was different but in a good way! Thought it was unique and we enjoyed it. We made reservations, this place is very busy seemingly all the time but making the reservation could not have been any easier online via their website.

I love the decoration here, big and spacious. The foods were ok, nothing special compare to others American restaurant. In fact, it's quite greasy.... I had a few bit, I'm already had enough because there were so much oil. It wasn't a bad experience but I don't find anything special to come back.

The wild mushroom tortellini and italian spring rolls are great. And I think they should market the truffle fries!

Went back, sat at the bar and we had wine, oysters, a spinach salad and a grilled Margherita pizza. So much better! I'd go back. The lighting situation didn't get any better though. The lamps are gorgeous but there are just too many of them.

My experience watching the 2010 NBA finals at Rustic Kitchen was an excellent one, despite the outcome for the Celtics that year. The selection of Beer, Wine and hard alcohol was excellent as was the atmosphere and decor of the restaurant and bar itself. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and the Rustic style Pepperoni Pizza exceeded my expectations. The one design flaw with this bar is the light fixtures hanging from the ceiling which blatantly obstruct your view of the flat-screen TV's depending on where you are sitting. This would usually not be a problem but since I was watching the Finals it did seem more short sighted of who designed the Bar.

Sitting outside on a beautiful summer night is just awesome here. The service if really good. The food is really good. I am a fan. Any of the Pasta here is awesome

I've tried a lot of things on the menu here and have always been happy. The pasta's good, fish is good, pizza is good, salads are good, apps are good etc... The cocktails are solid to, decent wine list... The bartender who wears glasses is a really nice guy, and the service I've received has always been above average.

Love this place and it's so convenient when shopping at Derby Street... it's such a great spot to sit outside for a cocktail and quick bite to eat on a sunny day. Great wine selection, but also yummy cocktails, sangria, etc. I prefer to eat outside (either at the bar or a table) because the service is always super friendly and we usually strike up conversation with someone else at the bar. Some favorites? ALWAYS the arancini. SO delish, even though they make it at the Boston location and bring it down to Hingham. The flatbreads are good and I recently tried a pasta dish main course for dinner and was totally happy with it. On the flip side, I continue to order the tuna tartare and continue to hate it. It is super onion-y and is a disproportionate amount of onion/avocado to tuna. There aren't a lot of great spots to eat close to home on the South Shore (I even prefer the Derby Street location to the one on Stuart Street in Boston) so I will keep on heading back to Rustic Kitchen.

First time to the Rustic Kitchen and I really liked it! I was with several friends who also were very satisified!! We had a wonderful waiter. I had the lobster mac and cheese. It was full with lobster meat, sausage and tomatoes. (It also was suppose to have spinach..but, I'm not a fan-and they omitted it-YAY!! extra stars for that!) There were more sausage then lobster..But, still absolutely delicous! The portion was very large and I had enough to take home for lunch the next day. I was totally bummed it was raining the night we went. It would have been terrific to eat outside on their patio.

One of my three favorite restaurants on the south shore. The ambiance is great, between eating outside on the patio in the summer and at the counter watching the pizzas being made in the winter. I have taken several people here for special occasions and all were impressed. I would have given it 5 stars, except for 1 incident this past summer. We were a group of 8 people, including 2 children. We were seating inside (could not have that large a group outside) and watched as our waitress walked past us numerous times while serving the majority of people outside who took advantage of the warm temperatures. After a 20min wait, we finally got to order. The food took almost as much time to get back to us. As always, the food was amazing, the ambiance was great, we just got stuck in a rush.

This is a good restaurant, beautiful atmosphere and good menu. Went for dinner and our server was nice and friendly. The food was very good, normal size portions. You do have to wait a while for the entree dish but can get appetizers and a drink meanwhile! Price is ok for the kind of place. Overall a positive experience!

This is one of my absolute favorite restaurants when I want cozy comfort food that has been turned up a notch. Everything I have ever ordered has surpassed my expectations and the wait staff are incredible. The service is very warm and friendly and they never try to rush you out the door no matter how busy or how late is might be. Some of my favorite dishes are the white bean dip served with the bread, the chive gnocchi and the crusted parmesan veal. Also, their sangria is awesome! Definitely try this place!!

I wasn't really impressed with any aspect of this restaurant. We made reservations for 8:45 one night, arrived, no one else was waiting, but we had to sit there for 15 minutes to wait for a table to open up. Meanwhile, the hostess staff barely acknowledged us and it seemed silly. Why take reservations if you won't hold a table open? They weren't even busy. Then onto our table...we sat at side booth in the back room and had spotlights in our eyes the whole time and felt a bit "on display." And the booth backs were not comfortable at all. Our waiter was fine, it was just hard to hear him over the loud noise in the restaurant, which made for some awkward moments. The food felt like it was made by someone who wanted to use every "fun" or "trendy" ingredient in one dish. There needs to be some editing and re-working of the menu. I barely finished my meal because of the flavor and my husband's was just ok. It feels like they're trying to be an upscale "cheesecake factory", but it doesn't work at all. Sorry, we won't be back to eat a bad $80 meal.

I love this place. I have never had anything I didn't like. My faves are the arancini (OMG), the margarita pizza, the grape santini martini, the bean and oil dip and bread, mushroom tortellini, the salmon, ok, I'll stop, the list could go on and on....seriously. SO GOOD!!! And love the atmosphere and decor.

We met some friends for dinner here last night... I really loved the atmosphere! We arrived before our friends waited for about 15 minutes or so and were seated. My wife went to the bathroom and the hostess asked if they could move us? Not a big deal... but not the greatest planning on their part. The waitress never introduced herself (which is a bit of a pet peeve of mine). You don't walk up to a table and take a drink order and start talking about specials... She forgot that I didn't want cheese on my salad... she also forgot my friends clam chowder. The food was not great. I got the Shrimp & Scollap Spagatteni. The portion looked more like an appetizer, it was over salted & the scollaps wer overcooked. I won't be going back any time soon.

This place is JUST OK . It seems like in a remote area where there isn't much else going on around here other than the huge " Derby Shops " The menu is diverse but everything took really long to come out . It seemed like the server was overwhelmed but everything took loong ! This place ain't cheap by any means ..... $18 Grey Goose & Cranberry ( !&?#) with barely any taste of vodka in there . This is a good place if you are looking for a kind of trendy , dining room , bistro looking atmosphere. Mostly filled with middle-aged , well-heeled , South Shore crowd...not really diverse here. If you're looking for a culinary tour stop ? Keep looking .... I wasn't really impressed...

I've eaten at a lot of places, but the ambiance, the service and mostly the food make this one of my absolute favorites. Start off with an appetizer that will make your eyes roll back in your head...then move on to an entree that will make you stop in the middle of your first bite and groan for the goodness...finish off with a dessert that's orgasmic...and there you have it! Executive Chef Michael Kelly is the cherry on top. Go for it...you'll love it.

Memo to self: Remember that Hingham is only a 20 minute drive (max) from the Dot. I love the Derby Street Shoppes. Everything you need is here, and, if you get hungry, stop in at Rustic Kitchen. I had some sort of pear-prosciutto-mixed baby greens salad that was great, largely because the pears were stuffed with bleu cheese. Moderate prices. Our server, Ashley, was earnest and attentive. The thing about this place is that you have to either wait at the bar or outside if you're waiting for your friends to arrive. In the nicer seasons, it has a large patio, so I guess people wait out there. But, come fall/winter, there's no space unless you want to be all hugged up with the hostess.

Went to Rustic Kitchen tonight for dinner (after having walked out of Summer Shack due to not receiving service). Love the ambiance of this place... very pretty. Place is very clean; we ate inside, although we were given the option of inside or out. Our waiter was very nice and very attentive and when he would check on us, he would apologize for interrupting our conversations. We ordered the "Italian Spring Rolls" for our appetizer and they were yummy! My 7-YO daughter ate 2 or 3 of them and loved them. The bread and dip were great, too, although I wasn't as much of a fan over the dip as my hubby and daughter were (it tasted like a mix between refried beans and hummus...). Daughter ordered Mac & Cheese which she barely touched. She said it was good but I think she filled up on appys. Hubby ordered the Filet Mignon and said it was fantastic. I ordered the Rib Eye and that was mezza-mezza. It wasn't horrible, but it didn't have a lot of flavor. I wouldn't order it again. We had a nice evening for dinner here and will go back again.

Went here last Friday evening to meet a friend. It was crowded but we got a table in the Bar area pretty quickly. The staff was very accomodating as well. The vibe is very "Rustic" for sure, but I like that, it matches my personal aesthetic. First comes the bread and oil. Delicious. Next I ordered the Spinach salad which came really fast. I could not stop eating it. My main dish was the Gnocchi with homemade sausage. I cannot explain how good it was. Lets just say it GNOCHHI'd my SOCCHI's off. I was super impressed and count the days till I go back.

Here for lunch on a quiet Monday. Had a very tasty tuna burger. Large portions, attentive service. Very comfortable and satisfying experience.

Very nice, reasonably priced and some very good selections on the menu. Nice wine selection, brought a different year without mentioning but for these prices I'll forgive that slip. Appetizers were great, tuna tartare was generous and fresh, fish tacos were recommended to me over the calamari and were very good. The homemade gnocchi was very good but the steak was probably from the Whole Foods down the block and was what kept this from being 5 stars. Stick with the Italian specialities and fish specials and should be a solid choice.

Just got back from dinner with my wife. We got there, stood at the hostess stand with no hostess. She finally made an appearance, told us a 20 minute wait, we decided to go to the bar to wait (the time at the bar was actually great). 35 minutes later I went up to ask the hostess if we'd be seated soon as we'd been watching numerous people leave the dining room and none enter, she said another five minutes. We get seated, the waitress takes our drink order and leaves. 15 minutes later she returns with my drink (a glass of wine). She's apparently also been outside because she finds a lady bug on her head, and proceeds to shake her hair out over my drink while I'm in the middle of my order, then makes me repeat it. She then has the nerve to say "Oh, wow, I shouldn't have done that, sorry." She then disappears. Half an hour later a different waitress brings us the appetizers, which were fine. The same waitress then clears those plates and delivers the entrees another half an hour later. I got steak, which was overdone, my wife got baked rigatoni, which was flat out burned. Our original waitress then comes around to ask how everything is, I point out that my wife's meal is burned and the waitress told me that "that's how we make it here." I'm sorry, but if your intention is to burn a plate, you're doing it wrong. At this point we're one of maybe ten tables in the restaurant. The waitress comes back and says that she mentioned it to her manager who reaffirmed that it was cooked properly but they're going to take it off of the bill. Apparently ten tables is too busy for the manager himself to actually make an appearance to see this plate that he's so very sure is "cooked correctly." We paid our bill before they even cleared our plates, couldn't leave fast enough. Good - bar, tuna tartare, prosciutto and mozzarella Bad - everything else Will never be back to this place.

I've come to this establishment a few times now, and every time, the experience has been consistent: really great food, but very stiff service. Not rude , but rather flat, muted service, as in they're not insulted you came in, but not overly excited either. They're just sort of doing their job. I always sit at the bar and get dinner, since I come alone, and don't want to take up a whole table just for myself. From people-watching and overhearing the loud conversations people are having, I get the sense that the clientele that comes here is very clannish. If you're not in with their crowd, you're not in, period. And I get the sense the employees here partake in that clannishness with certain patrons as well. Since I'm not in with the crowd that comes here, maybe that's why I'm treated with the muted personalities every time I come here. But the food is very good, and this is an upscale restaurant, and worth the higher prices you'll pay here than at many other restaurants in the area. So if you want a great meal, and don't mind dealing with the suburban clannishness that can be all too common in a town like Hingham (or if you're "in" with this crowd), then by all means, give this place a try.

I have been to Rustic Kitchen about 6 times now and I am finally getting around to review it. My husband and I brought my parents, uncle and his wife for my dad's b'day on Tuesday Aug 25th. We were seated right away inside, which was great considering how humid it had been, but the outdoor seating area was packed! We got a bunch of appetizers..just to name a few Dozen Oysters on the 1/2 shell, so fresh Italian Springrolls-Sausage & cheese wrapped in an eggshel wrapper Fried Calamari- so delicate & crunchy Veal Meatballs-OMG!!! Tuna Tartare-was good but was overpowered by avacado Prosciutto & fresh Mozzarella-really good but again overpowered by the Olive dressing The entrees are huge! They have a different pot pie special everday and their pasta is fresh & homemade. desserts are good too. This is one of my go to restaurants where I know I would have good food & service! Ceasar Salad The food was perfect

Went to the Rustic Kitchen for a business brunch. In Hingham, the parking was plentiful and the seating outside seemed nice enough. The atmosphere, although a bit forced seems fun enough to encourage conversation, so could be ideal for a date. The menu is interesting. The wait staff was adequate and knowledgeable about the menu. The Rustic Cobb Salad seemed really interesting: Chicken, avocado, gorgonzola, onions, tomatoes, smoked bacon, topped with a sunny-side-up-egg. Sounds really good and interesting right? Well, it was ok..... Just ok, not as good as I expected, unfortunately. My associate ordered the Eggs Benedict which he said were pretty standard, they came with a lemon sauce and home fries. It was my treat and I thought I would take this client someplace "special" - Guess I am going to have to keep looking for that place....... ........Although, another customer landed. So mediocre meal or not I must be doing something right! Woo-Hoo!!!!!!!

Liked, not loved it. Atmosphere is warm, cozy and comfortable-really liked. Our server was good-made some suggestions and was efficient. Manager(who brought our food to the table?)...not so good. She served 5 out of 6 dinners and left. She did not acknowledge missing dinner. About a minute later when our server stopped by to check on us, I asked if my dinner was coming-she promptly retrieved it. Food was overall good, nice sirloin steak. Beef stroganoff has a beef short rib-a better cut of meat would be a welcome change, but the sauce and noodles were excellent. The pizza appetizer- my son said was just "okay". Ice cream was amazingly good. Will go back again, would love to sit at the bar for dinner.

my friend picks the best restaurants. this place looks amazing. we were a party of 15. i never felt neglected by the waitress. she was so accommodating. we brought our friend a cake and i brought the candles. the waitress made it all happen at the right time and then charged us for the cake cutting fee, but since it was so put together i did not mind. i really enjoyed my glass of riesling too. AND the food was just delicious. the bread was warm and there was a unique dipping sauce. i ordered butternut squash ravioli that was sweet and yummyful. my friend's chicken risotto was creamy and the risotto was well done. i also tried the gnocchi and that was just a puff of goodness paired with sausage. my friend thought the shrimp and scallop over angel hair could've had more sauce but it was good. i also tried the ahi tuna and it was flakey and moist and paired well with wasabi mashed potatoes. so good! wonderful dining experience.

This establishment has freshest homemade pasta, good ambiance, and overall a very well run restaurant. Just stick with the homemade pasta and you won't be disappointed. I have this rule to not go to an Italian restaurant and order a steak, so no review from me on the steak/seafood entrees. The kid's meal is an amazing deal at $7 (used to be 6.50), which includes an adult size pizza and two huge scoops of gelato at the end. We stopped going to Bertucci's in favor of RK whenever we want to stay within the south shore for Italian.

The food is hit or miss here. Personally, I think their house made pasta is the best thing going, and certainly what brings me back. The few times I have gone off that track have not been great. What is very odd is that there seems to always be something that is just a little "off" about their dishes. For example, a family member ordered a pasta with sauce and it was like thin and watery like Campbell's Soup. Service has been fine but not fantastic. Prices are a little high for the food quality. Being selective with items is your best bet.

Went here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Sat at the bar with my wife. Bartender was really nice and really good. We shared the Tuna TarTar which was awesome and surprisingly big. I had the crab and artichoke salad which was really, really good. My wife got the Pizza which she said was mediocre. It's a bit pricey for the 'burbs but we'll go back.

My dining companion and I went to RK at kind of an odd time, so the place was empty, and we got a seat right away. I stepped into the dining room and was instantly in love - I absolutely ADORE the decor (yes, i know that rhymed). I adored the food too - I got the bolognese and my bf got the baked ziti - both were delicious. The white bean dip that came with the bread was delicious too. Even though it was a tad expensive for a late lunch, all in all, we were really happy/impressed, and plan on coming in again sometime.

This was my first dinner at the Rustic Kitchen and although there was a slight hiccup, I would say the meal was an overall success. A year or two ago, I had lunch on the patio and from what I remembered the service and food were both really good. So, as Jason and I had an itch to get dressed up and have some yummy food, this is where we ended up. It was raining and the place was fairly empty at 8:30 on a Saturday night. We were greeted and seated right away in a booth which, although was not very cozy, it had a nice feeling of privacy. A woman we assumed would be our server appeared immediately with bread and took our drink order. We hung out; waited and then, waited some more. The restaurant has some pretty cool decorations. The light fixtures are awesome and there are long, hand crafted, wooden tables that I would kill to own. After noting all of these fun items we would love to have in our house, we continued to wait. After Jason started to get restless and cranky, a new server appeared! He had our drinks... yay. Not acknowledging our predicament, he launched into the night's specials and took an appetizer order. Whatever. The drinks were strong and our half dozen oysters were promptly brought to the table. The oysters were fantastic: they tasted super fresh and the "sauces" were phenomenal. As a main course, Jason had the rib eye steak and I had the chicken risotto. The rib eye was a little underdone but Jason was in heaven - the steak was melt in your mouth delicious. My pasta was also incredible, the medley of flavors went so very well together. I'm so in love with goat cheese that 80% of the time I see it listed as an ingredient, I order the dish; the risotto was exceptionally tasty. I think that with patio weather coming back to us very soon (this is my greatest wish), I'll be visiting again.

I recently went to Rustic Kitchen for dinner with some friends on a rainy night. Love the ambience, its beautiful, I highly recommend this place for a date with the round tables. Our waiter, was helpful attentive and friendly and knew the menu inside and out. I got the rigatoni with meatballs and sausage and it was fabulous, although I couldn't eat it all, had to bring it home -which is not a problem! The restaraunt is clean and tastefully decorated. I would definitely go when the weather is nice so you can eat outside.

This place was packed when i went in ...i ordered a steak with a Gorgonzola sauce that was really good. I think i will skip the Parmesan fires next time as they were just not that great. I have been dieing to get back here for a nice night out.....staff and atmosphere were very nice.

Had a great early dinner on Monday evening. Service was great - our server was friendly and attentive. She was at the table when needed and efficient throughout the meal. Arancini appetizer was outstanding. Great flavor and a tasty sauce. Caesar salad was ok. Dressing was a little bland, but asiago bowl was a nice addition. Our entrees were great. 7oz filet was cooked perfectly, but wish it wasn't "butterflied." Fries and veggies were also delicious. Chicken marsala was very tasty, the mashed potatoes were hot and the sauce was really good. Chianti was perfect with our meal. Overall a nice quick dinner with satisfying results. We'll stop in again.

Summary: Good Italian with Style. Rustic Kitchen is a comfortable place. You can dress up and have a nice special night or dress down and have a great meal while relaxing with friends. More: This is not the best Italian I've ever had, but it is very close. The food on the menu is very good. Much of it is heavy and while the portions don't look ludicrously large, we end up with leftovers every time we visit. The caesar salad is great as is the fit and prosciutto pizza is a great appetizer if you have a larger group. Favorites Entrees include the pan seared diver scallops, the baked rigatoni, and the tagliatelle bolognese. The atmosphere at Rustic is great. There are 3 distinct areas. When weather permits the outside patio is a great option. You can eat, enjoy, and take in the passing crowd at the derby street shops. The bar area is great it you want to eat a bit quicker and take in the game. The main dining room is very nice, large, but with an intimate feel. People aren't dressed up to the point where you feel like a shlub coming in a bit dressed down, which is nice for such a up scale restaurant.

That about sums it up..it is OK. We went to Rustic kitchen for lunch yesterday, the service was a bit slow and our server lacked energy, not sure if they were short staffed but it appeared that they might have been. Food was OK burgers were over cooked but still flavorful. We we definitely be back but hope that it will be a better experience next time.

Restaurant was nearly empty early on a Monday evening. Plenty of staff were on duty. The hostess proceeded to sit us at a booth, and a heavy metal ice bucket in a metal stand was blocking the entrance to the booth. As I proceeded to move it myself, the hostess stood like a robot with menus in her hands. She clearly saw me struggling with it and considered it not her job. As I sat down, I noticed the booth was full of bread chunks and crumbs. I announced this aloud, and again the hostess stood unaffected while I swept the crumbs on the floor with my hand. When this was all brought to her attention she replied "yah" twice and declared it to not be her job. The manager was no better, listened to my complaint and then did nothing to rectify the situation. As we left the restaurant, my husband said that an apology would have gone a long way and she smiled. We were clearly smile-f---ed by both of them. Not only was their service abhorrent, clearly neither of them have any common sense or manners. We will never eat there again.

Went there last night- amazing! Waitress was sweet as a peach- began with a grape santini martini: tasty, then got calamari: delicious, this is the only place I get calamri from- after having it I don't want it from anywhere else, for a second appetizer we got lobster artichoke dip: (excuse my french) fucking incredible!!! Oh my god- in a nutshell: a crab Rangoon but with lobster and artichoke and wonton chips to dip. Finally for dinner I got butternut squash raviolis: amazing, and my friend got chicken marsala. All in all a perfect meal. I will deffinately go back!

rustic Kitchen is definitely a great place for dinner, especially if you're near the Derby Shops and dont feel like dealing with the chaos of Bertuccis or the ridiculously long lines at Burtons. ALthough its a bit over the top, I like the decor in Rustic Kitchen...its very cozy and the lighting is rather romantic. The only reason I did not give it a 4 is because the prices are a bit higher than i think they ought to be. their ceasar salad in the parmesan crusty bowl is reallly really good- but beware, its $9 and a pretty good size, so split it with someone unless that's going to be your whole meal. Their pizzas are good but not GREAT... I think they could add a few more pizza options to the menu is all, and their pastas are very good. Ive tried their desserts and they're great as well. The best part it RK: The hot white bean dip with olive oil and pepper with Focaccia bread.... oh my god.

It seems like I'm at Rustic Kitchen far too often, so my hubs and I must really like it. And I'll be the first to admit that I've had seriously great luck with their food on most occasions (with only one unfortunate foray into brunch that resulted in a seriously gummy and sad looking mushroom and goat cheese omelet that was beyond disappointing). Despite their lackluster brunch ability, the dinners served here are really quite tasty. Specials tend to be creative and inspired- notable high points recently included a fried soft shell crab on one evening and a braised short rib that was truly delectable and falling off the bone as short rib should be on another night. The ambiance is warm and inviting and the drink menu (generally the most important thing to me) has some pretty interesting and yummy martinis. The problem with this place is it's ALWAYS a zoo. It's virtually impossible to get a table within a reasonable amount of time on the weekend and there's no real waiting area so people are jam packed together like the T before a Red Sox game. It's impossible to move, let alone get to the bar to get a drink while you wait. Even calling ahead to put one's name on the list doesn't dramatically reduce the wait. I haven't decided yet if the food is worth the wait. It's definitely good... but it's tastes better at 5:30 pm when it only takes 10 minutes to be seated than it does at 8:00 pm when it takes 2 hours to get a table. The food would be 4 stars here, but the whole waiting situation is so annoying it only gets 3.

I have been here multiple times. The food is decent and the atmosphere is quiet and relaxing. I have tried many of the pasta dishes which are very good. If you are not into pasta the steaks are really good there. Last time I was there I had the veal meat loaf which is probably the best meal I have ever had there. The meals there are very decently priced but I think they are inflated due to the restaurant's location.

Food is great. We had the fish taco, Caesar salad and salmon. Everything was delicious. Definitely need to make a reservation ahead of time.

The food was excellent. Our server started off great but fell off towards the end and took a while to bring our check which sucked because we were not trying to sit there.

Today I took my mom out for lunch. I picked Rustic Kitchen because I knew she had enjoyed before and you gotta keep mom happy!! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the decor is a little whimsical too, the wall sconces look like giant paper bulbs of garlic...very cute. I couldn't stop looking around. They first bring over a basket of fresh delicious bread with a dipping sauce. Not the typical oil and garlic either. We were trying to figure out what it was. I thought it was a puree of white cannilini beans, olive oil, and a hint of garlic. I meant to ask the waitress but forgot when she came back with the cocktails. One drink special was a Gingerbread Martini....OMG that sounded so good, I couldn't help myself, I ordered it and savored every sip. Delicious...... it was almost like desert before the meal. I can only have one since I am driving, but damn!! I picked a good one!!! It lasted through the entire meal. Well worth the $11. Mom had a glass of Chardonet, for $10 ...a bit pricey for a glass of wine, but it was from a celebritys vineyard. yawn. I think she wished she had a gingerbread martini too. Oh well!! Now for the food, I decided on chicken corn chowder with bacon....absolutely FABULOUS. If I could have not made a spectical of myself, I would have licked the bowl. I didn't want it to be gone. Mom got a side ceasar salad, that was nothing special. We split a portabella, goat cheese and carmelized onion flat board pizza. Very good. I only had one slice, since the chowder was so filling. The bill was $50(not including tip). Not bad considering the quality and quantity were both above average.

Went here for dinner with friends -- two totally different experiences in the bar and the dining room. We arrived a just before 7 pm and were told it would be 45-60 minutes. We attempted to find a place to stand, but the bar area is not spacious. No matter where we stood, we were always in someone's way. When we finally got service at the bar, the bartender was not friendly. I was impressed by the range of wines by the glass both in price and type. Once seated, the experience improved. Our table felt private despite the crowded dining room. We had no trouble hearing each other across the table. The server was very friendly and attentive. As for our food, the three dishes ordered are mainstays on the menu - the pan seared tuna, the salmon and the tortellini. We all enjoyed our meals quite a bit! As tempting as dessert looked, none of us had the room!

I'm always up for a new twist on an old theme and Rustic Kitchen has that nailed. The decor is a bit flamboyant, as if it's trying a bit too hard to impress, but the service is great and food//wine selections are complementary. I will perhaps never understand how a restaurant thinks it is okay to charge almost $10 for a bowl of clam chowder... perhaps the description saying it's a "cauldron served with garlic crostini" will trick people. Yeah, that's definitely just a bowl with a side of bread... If you're looking for a hearty meal where you won't have to listen to screaming children and that won't drain your bank account, Rustic Kitchen is it.

My bf and I are regulars at the Rustic. First of all, it's really gorgeous inside -- dark, creative ceiling painting, hip decor. Cozy, warm, and romantic. We like to sit at the bar in one of the two-seater booths if we're eating dinner, or if we've come in to catch a game we'll sit at the bar. They have two large flat screens. Love the service there too, everyone is always quite friendly and accommodating. The food is good, we recommend the pizza (Spicy Sausage is a winner) and the Tomato/Avocado salad -- and the Pasta Bolognese is to DIE for. I don't eat it too often because of the fat content, but they do offer half portions on all their pasta dishes, so that is a cool option as well. Great wine selection, great original cocktails (Strawberry Cosmo!). In warm weather, they have a large outdoor seating area with bar, which gets PACKED, but is cool nonetheless.

I came in here with my mom about two weeks ago for dinner. We started with arancini; really good...They are served with a marinara sauce and a small green salad on top. I had a craving for a burger so I order the cheeseburger with bacon. Cooked perfectly and the french fries were handcut and awesome. I cannot wait till this summer, they have outside seating with a bar. Rustic Kitchen is a lighter menu then Burtons, just right for a summer meal outside

For the prices that they charge the quality is below average. I had the Tagliatelle Bolognese. The pasta was not fresh as advertised, in fact it seems as though it was cooked hours before & stuck together in the cooking process and in the sitting process. There were chunks of the noodles together throughout the bowl. The bolognese sauce was bad as well. (I've had FANTASTIC Tagliatelle Bolognese-try Sportello in Boston) The other 4 meals of the people we dined with we below average with the exception of their baked haddock which was average. I would NEVER eat here again for the money, the quality is just not there.

Hubby and I went here for dinner last night, food was disappointing, we didn't love it, the wine was excellent. Have had a more rewarding experience here in the past, perhaps it was the dish I ordered. Love the ambiance of this restaurant, warm, cozy and trendy and our server was delightful. Didn't care much for the bread but anything is better than nothing with a glass of wine. Hubby's veal meat loaf was excellent sans the flavorless and soupy parmesan mashed potatoes. I had the veal Marsala which was watery and flavorless, same for the accompanying potatoes, can make a better Marsala at home! However, I must add that the presentation was lovely. Thought prices were inline for the restaurant, entree's were quite large, you can get half an order which we should have done. However, I thought the prices for desserts were extravagant. Had the food been better I would have given it more than three stars and at that I'm being generous.

Stopped here on a warm summer evening at the Derby Street shops. Sat outside and had a nice dinner. After reading other reviews we were cautious but found the fodd to be good and tasty. I had a salmon dish with spinich and onions and a blood orange sauce. Good flavors with a slight kick. My date had a pasta dish -- butternut squash ravioli which had a great taste. Took a peek inside and see where the decor can be a bit much, but outside this night we had an enjoyable meal. Entres were $20 each.

Nothing short of horrible. Feel free to read on and save yourself 90 minutes and $120 for a dinner for two. We arrived about 5 p.m. and there were about 5 tables taken. So the rest of the restaraunt was empty, but of course they sat us elbow to elbow with another couple at a table next to ours. Like, seriously, elbow to elbow. why do places do this? Jeeze, there were plenty of empty tables they could have sat us at and made us all more comfortable. But we chuckled about it, said nothing and ordered anyway. Carpaccio was a little overseasoned but good. Then it's all downhill from there. The table bread could easily have been three days old and was award-winning bland, and the olive-oil pink sauce that went with the bread made the whole combination inedible. It's pretty tough to mess up bread and olive oil, but these jamokes pulled it off swimmingly. The ceaser salad was so inexplicably spicy it pretty much burned on the way down. Weird. It comes in this parmesan-crusted tortilla bowl that tastes like the cardboard on a Hoodsie. I'll be digesting my bites of that for the next two months, I fear. When dinner finally arrived -- after one of those nights when people who arrived 15 minutes later than us got served first -- my wife's haddock was wholly bland -- "I could have made this at home." she said. And my T-Bone came with creamed corn, sauce and a pile of 12 oinion rings -- ALL ON ONE mound of goo. This was truly stunning. I wish I took a picture. I guess I'm used to a steak arriving where some of the sides at least arrive as sides. Instead 'm looking at an 8-inch diameter plate with a steak buried in there somewhere, nowhere to move the oinion rings out ot the way. The steak is on top of mashed potatoes, with creamed corn oozing all over the bottom of the plate. Mother of pearl, this soupy mishmash of colliding entre and sides and made me wonder if there was some sort of dish shortage on the South Shore or something. I dug in for three bites of steak and all were filled with crusted fat that went to the napkin. The kicker was the steak knives there are rounded -- so of course three times I put the knife on the side of the rounded plate, and three times the handle slide right down into the goo. I didn't even have a drink, because I was driving, so this was not booze-induced. We are NEVER going back and the only satisfaction I got out of the dinner was venting in this review in the hopes of saving someone else the trouble and expense. There's a reason Burtons has a line. It's either that or Sintra (Braintree) for us for now if we're not going in town. cheers, j

Love the food here.... also the patio is very nice. The white bean hummus that comes with the bread is delicious. Never really had a bad meal here. I love their fresh salads...flat bread pizza is great too. missed one star due to the slow service

This is our annual hangout spot for one of my friends bday every year. Idk why. But we always ended up coming here for his bday. Their lamps are garlic shaped! The food was good and overall great vibe for dinner! The appetizers were amazing! The fish taco was really fresh! Def worth a try.

My girlfriend and I went here for Valentines Dinner. It was absolutely amazing. We split an order of calamari and the taste was out of this world. I had the chicken parmesan. I enjoyed every little bite. They added pesto to the marinara sauce which struck me as different and I was a lil shaky about it. Once I started eating it, "it was possibly the best I have ever had". Nothing on my plate disappointed me. My girlfriend had ordered a seafood dish, but by the time I had thought to ask for a bite it was already gone. That's how you know she liked it. This restaurant really lives up to the hype and expectations.

Went to dinner with my parents and husband to be. Three of us got a burger and I got the lobster carbonara. All dishes were delicious and beautifully cooked. Service was spot on. The decor is perfect with the name of the restaurant. Side note the men's urinal was broken, my father and fiancé were not impressed with that happening at a nice restaurant like that.

I came here for my birthday because I wanted to eat at a "nicer" restaurant and was craving Italian. It's located in Derby Street Shoppes. The inside has a nice ambience, dimly lit at night and has a nice rustic feel. We were a party of 5 and seated at a comfortable booth. Our server was very pleasant and attentive. I ordered the Long Island Duck Breast, and others ordered the Lobster Carbonara, Baked Rigatoni, Baked Stuffed Haddock, and a special that was offered that night. Overall I enjoyed my dish and everyone else seemed to enjoy theirs too. Presentation was very nice and the flavors were up to par. However, I do wish the portions were larger especially at the price points. Most entrees were $23-$30. It's a good place to try out for a special occasion, but I wouldn't come regularly.

The pros for brunch: 1. Excellent location and the place is beautiful. 2. Large outdoor seating area. 3. The oysters were amazing 4. The drinks were made perfectly The cons: 1. They won't seat you until your full party is present. One of the 4 of my group was running late and they wouldn't seat us to order drinks and apps. 2. Ordered the strawberry salad with shrimp and the shrimp was extremely dry and rubbery. 3. Bathroom lighting - the men's room lighting was horrible. It's like a single, 40 watt bulb for the entire bathroom.

Came to Rustic Kitchen on a Sunday afternoon with some girlfriends to catch up. We were promptly seated with not all of our party present, which was great. When our last friend arrived, we all ordered our brunch meals. I ordered the Prosciutto and Sunny Side Egg Pizza and my friends ordered: The lobster club, grilled chicken club and baked rigatoni. I absolutely enjoyed my meal, the egg made the pizza so creamy. I couldn't even finish half of it because it was so big. The others girls loved their meals as well, but the rigatoni was very dry. My friend asked the waitress for an extra side of marinara and that solved the problem. Rustic Kitchen has its own large pizza oven, all of the different types of pizzas sounded amazing. We ended up getting a few dessert items to share: Creme Brulee and Tiramisu. Both desserts were amazing and were finished off quickly. I'm excited to come back here and get dinner at the bar. The bar space looked like a wonderful place to grab a drink or experience an entire meal there. All staff was very friendly including our waitress, great service!

Reallllly want to love this place but man does their service suck. I like this place for its outside patio but every time I go our server is exceptionally slow. It took our server twenty minutes before she arrived at our table with water. Just water. She then made a separate trip for bread. Then for drinks. Then for our order. She just mosied about without any sense of urgency. Then, the cherry on top was at the end of our dining experience, she made a joke about tipping her well after poor service. You just don't do that. So I guess this rating is for the continued lack of service. I don't think this will be my first pick for lunch at derby anymore. The inside dining room looks beautiful though.

Quite hit or miss here. It is a very nicely set up Italian bistro with unique decor (wine labels stuck to the wall) inside the mad house that is Derby Street. The appetizer bread came out with a weird olive oil gravy. Obviously, they tried something different here. It just ended up tasting like someone messed up and mixed gravy with olive oil. We also got an excellent lobster and artichoke dip. The only problem was the dipping wontons were so frail, they fell apart if you attempted to dip. My entree was the chive gnocchi, which was described as "sprinkled with sausage crumbles." It was more like a bowl of sausage chunks garnished with a few gnocchi. Again, it tasted excellent....but I wanted gnocchi, not sausage. The gnocchi is supposedly hand made, so I can guess they cheaply ration them out. Disappointing. I would give this place another shot, though.

I have been dying to try the Rustic Kitchen, but just never made it there, until this past week. I honestly, don't know how I feel about it after my first visit. First, they sat my husband and I down at a table for two the size of a table for four in most restaurants. (This plays a part in my review later, I promise). We ordered a glass of wine to have as we decided on what to order. The waitress brought us over bread and a bean dip for the bread. It tasted fine, but the bread was very heavy and the dip was heavy and it just didn't work for me. We ordered the arancini for an appetizer and it was absolutely delicious!, The arancini small, but there were 6 or 7 in the appetizer so it was more than enough food. I wasn't sure I would like them when they reached our table as they were served in a tomato sauce with a salad over the top. Salad and arancini? I can say I was very much mistaken. The salad had a really nice dressing (balsamic onion maybe?) that went really well with the arancini. The sauce was absolutely amazing, so amazing that we were looking forward to dipping our bread in it when we were finished with the arancini. This is where things started to go a little awry for me. The waitress took the arancini sauce away without asking if we were done, and then the bread when she brought our dinners. We both ordered pasta, and I was surprised that they removed the bread from the table with both of us having pasta. The table size (as I mentioned earlier) was more than large enough to accommodate the bread without it even seeming crowded. We ordered the baked rigatoni and the wild boar lasagna and to be honest, we were completely satisfied with both dishes. The portion size was more than enough, even for my husband. My only complaint was that the rigatoni was listed in the pasta section where they advertise home made pasta, yet it was from a box. (I checked with the waitress to confirm this...). It still tasted good, but it wasn't the fresh made pasta I thought I was ordering. After we were finished, my husband and I both pushed our plates to the center of the table... and waited. And waited... and waited. It was a good half hour before our waitress came back. We were ordering dessert (creme bruleee is my absolute favorite). Our waitress took the order and we waited... and waited... another 15 minutes for dessert to come out. It was good, but creme brulee when done right always is. After we were done with dessert we waited for the check. And waited... and waited... another 30 minutes. If the dining room had been booked solid, I might understand, but we were there later in the dinner service and half the tables were empty. So, that being said... food was good. Service was... slow and weird. Would I go back? Doubtful. For what we paid for dinner, fresh pasta should have been fresh pasta and service should have been better.

I came here for dinner and must say everything about it is great! From the drinks, food to service. Our waitress was very attentive! The ambience is also nice, they have an outdoor patio and bar but since it was cold out we sat inside. We got the 1. lobster dip, amazing! 2. Prosciutto arugula pizza, delicious! 3. Ceaser salad, very fresh 4. Shrimp scampi pasta, delicious! 5. fish tacos, amazing! All the food were good to share among 3 people, probably too much food. They also give bread with this cheesy crust and hummus dip at the start of your dinner, very tasty. I give this place 5 stars as everything about it was excellent. A must try if you are in the south shore area. Located in the derby street shops.

it took 3 1/2 months to get a date night together since our migration east. rustic kitchen was the only place that took a reservation before 9pm on a saturday with two days notice. it's really more like 3.5 stars, but i like this place enough to round up. i started with the seared bay scallops special: a delicious combination of mashed sweet potatoes, crispy bacon, charred brussels spout leaves, dried cranberries and micro sprouts- sweet, saltly, bitter chewy, crispy. i wish it came with more scallops and less sweet potatoes though. i stole a bit of my husbands wedge salad, which was dressed up with more than the standard 4 ingredients (lettuce, tomato, bacon, blue cheese). the tomatoes were late summer-peak season ripe, in november (one of the reasons to round up). the short rib stroganoff is a heavy dish, but well cooked dish with tons more flavor than any standard stroganoff. the pappardelle noodles were about have the width of lasagne noodles and i would have preferred they were cut thinner. portions are large; i took a little more than half of this home and skipped dessert. i wish i left room for dessert since they all sounded so very good. service is friendly, though i think stretched a bit thin. while there were definitely well-behaved children in here, i don't think the pace is something the 5 and under can handle well. definitely worth again for another night out without the little one.

Delicious food, great atmosphere, excellent service. Their drinks are perfect. My wife and I had the Grilled Pear Salad, followed by the Rib Eye Steak and Braised Pork Osso-buco. A delicious Creme Burle to wrap the night. We'll keep coming back.

It's okay...I guess. I'm not in love with the place, but I don't dread it. Rustic Kitchen is just okay, hence the grade. I went for the pressed cuban and it was decent: reasonable amount of ham and swiss, and the bread was pressed fairly well. The pasta salad wasn't memorable, which can be a good or bad thing. Probably the complimentary foccacia and white bean dip was the highlight of the meal. The dip was tasty and went well with the bread. It's a nice change to hummus. The service was just average as well, as the server wasn't awful, but wasn't stellar either. She checked on us once. The bar was loud, but since I came here for a late lunch, the adjacent dining area was rather quiet.

Have only been here a few times, but would definitely return!! The food is delicious, the ambiance is great! Perfect for post work drinks with some friends or co-workers or a date night! I got the baked stuffed haddock and tried so hard not to inhale it on my date.. haha. Looking forward to going back!

Well, so it's in Hingham, which should tell you something. It's in the Derby Street Shops, which should tell you a second thing. (Spoiler alert, I grew up in Hingham, so I've learned to accept much of this). The atmosphere inside is definitely constructed, but it is well-constructed. It's artful enough that it doesn't seem artificial, with high, uneven wood tables, soft lighting, deep colors and plenty of sound-dampening. It's luxe-y and comfortable, and that's reflected in both the attentiveness of the servers and the prices on the menu, but you are getting great things out of both. Our server here was kind and alert, and did not leave glasses empty for long. Nothing intrusive, and just very attentive to her tables. Good stuff. The tagliatelle bolognese was spectacular, with a big, earthy and sweet flavor. The steak tips were sweet and perfectly seared, and cooked nicely to order. The gnocchi with sausage was almost a "sausage with gnocchi" - no shorting on the homemade sausage crumbles. The only complaint was that my NY strip, while done properly with a criss-cross sear and red throughout, was only barely warm by the time it reached the table. The Mark West Pinot Noir is always a favorite of mine, and they don't mark it up too terribly by the glass. For a nice dinner in Hingham, you could do a lot worse than Rustic Kitchen.

This place is great! The food is high quality with a variety of selections and the service is solid. My go to fave is the Bistro salad with either steak or shrimp but I've tried a good variety of the menu from the mushroom pizza, yum; the burger is high quality with a savory bun and delicious crisp fries; rich pastas that are made just right and fish selections that are fresh. I've always been pleased! The atmosphere has a lot of energy and character and the bartenders know how to make a drink! I have been known to get a Cosmo but they have a delicious signature drink list and the selection of wine is better than most places in the area. I can't say enough nice things about this place. My husband and I find ourselves here often!

Made last minute reservations for the boy's birthday and the hostess was very nice and accommodating. We arrived 30 minutes early and decided to have a drink at the bar. The bartender wasn't all that friendly though I will say that the bar area was quite busy. We walked back towards the hostess stand and she immediately recognized us and walked us to our table in the dining area. The ambiance was great -- the wall separating the bar and dining area definately helped minimize noise levels. We started with the sweet Italian sausage pizza, which was thin, crispy and delicious. The boy had the parmesan veal cutlet and I had the chicken risotto. The risotto was slightly underdone and personally, I found the goat cheese a bit overpowering. The bread at the start was nothing special though the bean dip was quite tasty! Our server, John, was great and very attentive. All in all, we would certainly return!

Really enjoyed this place a lot! Weekends is a long wait which is understandable but luckily there are shops around the area, the atmosphere and environment is exquisite and gives a homey charmed comfortable feeling, food is great, big plates and decent size portions! The steak, veal meatloaf and duck breast is to die for! Service was on top of everything

Rustic Kitchen is a solid dining spot for the Derby ST Shoppes in Hingham. I would give it 3.5 stars but in this instance I am rounding down. The overall atmosphere was very nice in the restaurant. They did a good job decorating and the pizza oven adds to the ambiance (you feel like you are in a rustic kitchen). Service was a bit hit or miss. The pacing was good for our group night out (we wanted to take our time). I didn't like how I thought we were upsold on the liquor. We were told a sangria pitcher is not really worth it when sharing between 5 or 6 people and by the glass would get us more. Then when a couple people dropped out of the pitcher, the waitress pushed the pitcher hard on the people that were left. Why is it a good deal now? The food was good but not great. Tuna Tartare (13$) was a massive portion but with a lot of huge avocado chunks. You are getting a good value with this order regardless, and it was good. Calamari (11$) was a large portion and good quality squid as well. One miss for me was the Chive Gnocchi. This dish just didn't come together well and the pasta was just OK. A superb standout was the special soup of the day, the crab and sweet corn chowder (8$). This was an excellent chowder with great flavor. Most importantly it was full of fresh crab. This was the one dish I would order again if I were to come back (too bad it was a special). I would not come out of my way to visit here again, but I'm sure you could do worse in this shopping mall. If you are in the area it's worth checking out.

Went to rustic kitchen for easter lunch/dinner, Had been there before and was very comfortable about our return. Well unfortunately, they did not satisfy this time... Like a previous reviewer claim, the bread came out, and was rather heavy ,as well as the dip that came with it... A few at our table ordered salads, (which I didn't) and thy looked pretty good, but were almost a meal in themselves... (thats why I did not order salad) but ordered rigatoni with Italian sausage, when it arrived quite bit later in the meal time, it was served in a frying pan and I was warned it was hot.. well it was hot,, but far from really hot.. the ragtoini, kind of just laid there on one coagulated mass, all sticking together, and was luke warm, like maybe it sat for a while before being served, I basically picked at it, it was just plain bland.. MyAnother at our table had the same with the veal meatballs, he di not say anything, but it certainly looked the same to me.. My son later complained his food was just luke warm in the center, and my wife did not really like her meal as well I am the kind of person whom does not complain, the best I can do is just not return...and not return is exactly what I am going to do... Say Good by Rustic Kitchen.

The Hingham Rustic Kitchen is my favorite restaurant anywhere ever. Amazing food, awesome drinks, and great staff. The bean dip and bread they bring when you arrive is like crack. And the quality here is consistent. We have dined here 50 times and have always had an incredible meal with great service. It does get busy weekend nights so you should call ahead or try to grab a first come first serve bar high top.

I wanted to love this place ... the ambiance is terrific ... but the overall experience was average. The bartender needed to smile - he came across almost militant and like he'd prefer to be somewhere else. You are in the service industry, somehow find it in you to at least be pleasant, perhaps even accommodating. Efficient, on a basic level - never did he ask me if I'd like another drink (which I would have) or perhaps dessert, fresh ground pepper on my salad - nor did not inquire as to why 1/5 of my salad only was eaten. Moreover as I tried to order my drink he walked away before I could finish. I then had to add the remaining part of the drink while he was making it, and his body language was as if he was put out. The ceasar salad looked fantastic, and it could be,but it was drenched heavy on the dressing making it way overpowering. Back down on the dressing and it could have been wonderful. The mahi mahi looked amazing, I was psyched, but it unfortunately lacked flavor - very bland. A lot of potential here - perhaps a few tweaks and it could be such a better place.

Love this place! We go on a regular basis - about every other week. We love the round banquettes by the bar and they always have the game on at the bar on several TV's. The bread and bean dip they serve before the meal comes out are delicious. It is an especially nice place to go in the warm weather when you can sit outside and do some serious people watching.

Waited 10 minutes for a waitress to come over to introduce themselves and fill our water glasses. There was practically no one there. Walked out. Horrible, horrible service. I'll never go back. Went a few doors down to B. Good. Fuck. This. Place.

We regularly come to this place, the food is really good and consistent, and the atmosphere is nice and relaxed. I'm not sure about bringing a lot of kids as it's quite close quarters and quiet, but for a night out with a partner or adult friends, would highly recommend it.

My Wife took me here for my birthday the other night, and it was a great time. The service was friendly and the ambience was nice. The menu has a lot of choices for apps and entrees. I started off with the Ten Thyme drink which was very good. They also had a few other good cocktail choices. To kick the meal off they give you fresh baked bread with a hot white bean dip. We placed an order of the calamari to start, which was very good. I went with the Shrimp Spaghettini and my Wife went with the Lobster pasta. Both were excellent, and very large portions with leftovers to take home. The shrimp were large and they gave you five of them which is a pleasant surprise, but apt for the price (I expected less). We would definitely frequent this place again for special occasions.

Was here for a date with the hubby for dinner. Made reservations online. As soon as the hostess took us to our outdoor table and gave us our menus, the waitress came right away to get our drinks. Soon after, she brought the warm white bean dip with the basket of two different types of bread. The dip itself was very bland, I've had better in authentic Italian restaurants. One of the breads was very delicious (focaccia), so moist and chewy at the same time. The other bread was dry and tasted old. Since we had already reviewed the menu at home, we were sure about what we'd order. I got the Baked Stuffed Haddock ($24). It came with two sides, asparagus and mashed potatoes. I replaced my mashed potatoes with the Parmesan Truffle Fries. First of all, OVERPRICED! My dish was very bland, just a simple piece of fish. No flavor at all. It tasted and looked as if it had been baked with no spices whatsoever. The stuffing on top barely had any crab meat. I could count with one hand the few pieces of crab meat I found. It had more onions than meat in it. The "side" of asparagus was only 5 of them. Just for decoration really. My Parmesan Truffle Fries were WORSE than the typical fries, COLD! They brought them last, about 5 minutes later, way after they had brought out all our food. So, they obviously forgot about them. Didn't want to complain, as we were hungry and just wanted to get out of there. The food was very disappointing. The hubby ordered the 7 oz. Filet Mignon ($28) with Fettucine Alfredo and the seasonal vegetables it already comes with. He asked for his steak well-done, not BURNT! We've had well-done steak in plenty of other restaurants and they never bring it out BURNT. It was literally inedible on some top parts, to the point that my husband had to cut pieces off it. We were completely DISSATISFIED with our food and WILL NOT return. The only reason why I rated it 2 stars is because we really enjoyed the complimentary focaccia bread. This restaurant is way TOO EXPENSIVE, just to basically smell the smoke of the cars driving by. It's so pricey just because it's Hingham. If they are going to charge so much for food, they should at least serve delicious food that's worth the price.

I ordered roasted swordfish.....very disappointed. The fish was about 1/3 inch thick, overdone and tough. There were approximately 1 tablespoon of butternut bisque/sauce and greens an radishes. Overpriced! Horriblely prepared and unpalatable!

Our favorite restaurant in Hingham. The short rib stroganoff is out of this world. The taco appetizers are mouth watering. Highly recommend this place.

Went here on a Wednesday night and got a table quickly. Upon entering I noticed a cozy and warm feel to the restaurant. It was "rustic" looking and fit the name perfectly. The waitress came over several times to ask for our order but each time we were not ready, she was very patient and friednly to us. We never felt rushed at any point. The waitress delivered some bread and a bean dip which were both tasty. For the entree I ordered the chive gnocci which was ok. I liked the amount of spice/kick to it however the gnocci was a little soggy and soft. I'm not sure if it was because vegetables and sausage were piled on it or if it was undercooked. Got sick of the taste after a while due to the soft texture. The size of the entree was good, had leftovers for the next day. Overall, the service was great, bread and bean dip was tasty but for the price I thought it was ok. Certainly seemed like a good location but many other restaurants in the area.

Went in for dinner on MLK Day which was also my wife's birthday. Unfortunately there were a few things that upset me through the night. I read the reviews and looked at the menu and I guess with all the positive things I saw I expected a better service. When we were sat at our table we went unnoticed for about 12 mins until my wife got a servers attention. We sat there with menus empty water glasses and watching multiple number of servers walk right by us and not even acknowledge us including a manager too. If my wife wouldn't have done anything I have no idea how long we would have sat there. How can that happen while it wasn't even busy. FYI your tuna tartar app is huge! You must be losing money on it, what is there 8 Oz of flavorless poorly chopped tuna there. It should be tossed in a sauce or dressing. While still eating our appetizers our entrées came out! Really are you trying to rush now or upset me and ruin the birthday dinner I had high expectations for. I asked the runner to bring those back to the kitchen since we weren't done with our apps. We even asked that our entrees come out after we are done with our apps while placing our order. This is pretty basic stuff here Rustic Kitchen staff. Finally when it came to dessert they missed the birthday candle! Of course how could I count on you to remember. When I made the reservation, which I made in person face to face with a staff member during lunch service, I asked them to make a note about it being my wife's birthday and have the dessert come out with a candle. THREE STRIKES, You're Out! In all I expected better then this. There seems to be a communication problem in the FOH. The only thing I wanted was someone to apologize for the waiting to be noticed or the early arrival of our food. I give the food 4 stars and the staff a 2 star. The staff needs to be more attentive and personable. We will probably not be back.

This place is a true gem of the South Shore. The ambiance is great and the food is better. Get the Caesar Salad - it comes in a Parmesan crisp bowl. Enough said. The bread that they serve with warm white bean dip is to die for.

Would give Rustic 5 Stars because I've always loved their food (brick fired pizza, double cut pork chop, focaccia with white bean dip, haddock, Caesar salad, oysters) to name a few favorites but the service has dwindled in the past 3 years especially on the bar side. It's not rare for me to be sitting there for 8-10 minutes without even being acknowledged - which sucks considering I really do love the French glow, ambiance & foo/cocktails here. I opt to come here when I'm meeting friends for dinner, so please Rustic, wow me one more time and put a little love into it, will ya!?

Went for lunch. Food was OK - you know the usual. Pizza, sandwiches. Not much for gluten free. No problem , I can work around a menu. What troubled me was the ding bat I had for a waitress. I had to ask 10 different ways and times to get her to ask the kitchen if they could make the grilled vegetarian panini into a non sandwich meal. It has been a few days now since my visit and I am left with a sour taste. The experience is as much what you pay for as the meal. I can make a sandwich at home . The staff can completely ruin an experience. I hated it and do not look forward to going back. How was the food??? Can't remember as I am still seething over the waitress' indifference to help.

I've come to the Rustic Kitchen for lunch & dinner while in the area on business, and while I have mixed thoughts on the food, I was very turned off by the atmosphere. The physical atmosphere feels very 'manufactured,' like something designed by a corporate chain or amusement park. I find it ironic that the interpretation of the 'rustic' theme is anything but... Another reviewer described the services as "muted," and I think that's pretty accurate. Dispassionate, yet efficient, the service staff took my order, brought my food and kept my glass full - not a bit more, not a bit less. Eye contact, yes, but a smile must cost extra. The food was good, portions were sizeable and everything was prepared as expected, but nothing was memorable. Literally, I can't even remember what I had. Certainly didn't seem in line with the menu prices. Yet all the while, I can't help but feel the Rustic Kitchen theme borders on pretentiousness, like you're being judged the moment you walk in the door. The attitude seems to be reflected in the clientele as well; it definitely feels like a favorite of the South Shore Housewives, and I actually overheard a loud "don't you know who I am" routine going on at another table. It's hard to put my finger on, but if you're sensitive to this sort of attitude, this might not be the place for you.

I am usually a fan and advocate for Rustic Kitchen. However, last night, I was completely turned off and let down by the hosting staff. To the two young ladies in charge of the front of house: I have never been so appalled by such disrespectful and rude behavior. To the blonde hostess: I am a paying customer and did nothing to deserve being ignored and grimaced at. I felt belittled and infuriated by your attitude and tone. Thank goodness for the wonderful waitress Michelle for turning our night around. She was pleasant, accommodating, and professional. If it weren't for her good service, I would have been beside myself. The hosts are in charge of welcoming customers and setting up your first impression of a restaurant. It's a real shame that such an ill-mannered girl tainted my celebratory dinner.

Not that good. I took the family here for my father in law's birthday and sat for a while before we were acknowledged. The waitress was friendly and the service did improve but my major complaint was my steak. I got the NY strip for $29 which I have no problem paying if it was a good cut of meat. Unfortunately it was very tough and had more fat that a NY strip should, the truffle fries were undercooked and soggy. Kids got pizza that was very good, and wife got scallops that were good but not great. Was going to bring in a cake to celebrate the birthday but the $1.75 per person cake cutting fee seemed ridiculous. Next time I'll stick with Burton's.

Was that a salt lick on my plate or a pizza? I ordered the prosciutto and egg pizza and it looked great but it was one of the saltiest dishes I have ever had. I couldn't taste the flavors over the salt. It's a shame the food isn't better because the decor and atmosphere is lovely and worth a trip back. The service was hot and cold. For most of my group's lunch, the waitress hovered over us asking how things were. She kept on coming over so much that we wondered if she was trying to hurry us along so she could seat another group. Yet, curiously, she never came over with some desperately needed water. When did she disappear? When we wanted the check. Of course. If I had to break it down I'd say food - 1 star, service - 2 stars, decor, location and parking - 4 stars.

We decided to go here for a random dinner night. I have to say it was one of the best meals we have ever had. I ordered the lobster artichoke dip and pear balsamic salad and my boyfriend ordered a pasta dish. The waitress was good and the ambiance was very romantic and nice. We went late at night so there were not tons of people there. We are both hispanic so we felt a little out of place when we first got there, but other than the initial weird looks we were comfortable after that. I highly recommend this place for a dinner night with a loved one or close friends.

Great Spot! I frequent this location and highly recommend it! The wine list is solid and the food is great. They do a little twist on the traditional here and do it well. I like to sit at the bar or the bar tables (as is my style), but have sat in the dining area as well. It's a large bar area, and is usually busy, but there is almost always an open seat which is nice. I love the Calamari and the Tuna Tar tare here! So good! Salads are great too! I usually go with that combo but the Pizza is tasty as well as most of the entrees. Just watch out for anything with the candied bacon in it (a little aggressive for my taste). Went for Lunch a couple of times and got the Chicken Club Sandwich with Avocado. It was delightful! It was like $11 and came with an arugula salad and fries! This is also a cool spot for brunch with a creative menu, and if you fancy yourself a drinker, a good place for your favorite Sunday Cocktail! In the summer the outdoor seating with bar is a great place to check out. Just remember you are in Hingham so don't expect much action past 10 because that town shuts down early!

Gross! Went for dinner last Monday and was served a rancid, foul smelling oyster. The main course (fig proscuitto flat bread and truffle fries) were both steal and served luke warm at best. The manager did take the food off the bill but her explanation that they cannot control the quality of the oysters they serve was really pathetic. I have been twice before and while the meals were not close to as poor as this past experience they were not good enough for me to ever risk going back. If you are in the area, best go to Burton's or even Bertucci's over this place.

This is my favorite restaurant in Hingham. Great atmosphere, wine list, and food. I usually eat in the bar area (very cozy bar booths!) but I have also eaten in the main dining room when the bar is full. Other reviewers mention poor service, but I have never had anything but great service from the wait staff or bartenders. Maybe I'm just lucky? I eat here a lot so I feel super confident in recommending it to anyone looking for a nice bite to eat at Derby Shoppes! Favorite things to eat: White bean dip (comes with the bread) Grilled pear salad (offered on the dinner menu, but you can request it at lunch) Baked rigatone Enjoy!

The food and drink here is comparable to a swanky Boston establishment, but what sets this place apart is the service. The service is second to none! I came here on a Saturday night with a friend to celebrate a birthday and a new job. The hostess didn't automatically assume we wanted to sit outside since it was a nice evening. Bonus point. We were seated and promptly greeted by an awesome server who never let a glass sit empty or a used piece of silverware sit on the table. Since we were here to celebrate as two friends and coworkers, she didn't hound us to search the menu but rather understood that we were there to catch up and gave us plenty of time to chit chat and exchange gifts. Never once did we feel pressured to order. The food is awesome. I had the tuna over wasabi mashed potatoes. That's right, wasabi mashed potatoes. They were spicy, but only with a kick and not overwhelming at all. The tuna was cooked to a perfect rare temperature and seasoned perfectly. The only complaint I had was the ratio of entree to sides. The mashed potatoes were good, but it was nearly 75% of the plate. Considering the potatoes are green, it took me by surprise and I felt unsure as to whether or not I was supposed to eat them (I'm weary of any starch that is green). Although it's customary to complement a seafood entree with white wine, the server didn't give me a hard time about ordering a glass of shiraz. Overall, it was a great experience and I will go back. The inside of the restaurant has a great open-kitchen warm ambiance and is pleasant to sit in even during the dead heat of the summer. I'm not sure what the appeal to sitting outside because of the passing traffic and kids loitering about PinkBerry next door. I'm not a huge fan of the Derby Street Shoppes as just getting in and out of there is a like navigating through a war zone of soccer moms in oversized SUVs dropping their kids off at PinkBerry. If you can get past that, it's guaranteed to be a great meal!

This restaurant has good food; and just about everything I've tried here is up to par. Unfortunately the long waits and very inexperienced wait staff make it a less than desireable place to dine at. The ambiance feels very crowded and just a bit loud. Another unfortunate detail is that this restaurant is NOT "kid-friendly". The bathrooms do not have changing tables so a parent with a newborn would find it very difficult to change or clean up. Ultimately the food is good - so I wouldn't tell you not to go there. My review is based on more than just one visit to this location. I've dined at this location several times, making my feedback fair and just.

Wow! A perfect night out. Atmosphere, staff, drinks, meal and dessert were all great. After accidentally realizing that our Open Table reservation was not for this Hingham location, the greeter we to out of her way to accommodate us on a very busy Saturday night. The white Sangria flowed freely and was extremely tasty. Our tuna tartar was superb, as was my duck. And always leave room for dessert and coffee!

the most obnoxious host greeted us at 4:00 in the afternoon on Saturday. We asked to sit in the bar for appetizers and drinks and he said we needed to have dinner because it was Saturday night. Saturday night? Does Saturday night begin at 4:00 in the afternoon in Hingham? Please. And by the way, you don't have to be obnoxious about it. We were going to spend money and we do tip very well. Some of us have been in the food service industry for many years in a resort area that would make your host and your restaurant look like MacDonalds. Really awful.

If I had to rate this place based on food... I'd give it a five star. When you combine it all together with service, it dropped down one star. The server was great but the hostess looked like she had a problem with my request for a booth. I always compare my visits to other restaurants within the price range and overall, thought it met my expectations. I really enjoyed the olives, grilled peach salad and the steak tips. I will definitely be back to taste the rest of the menu.

Torn on giving this place two or three stars but ultimately settled on three. The atmosphere is really good and the food is solid but the service is consistently poor. The bad- Service is typically very slow (you can expect to wait fifteen minutes for a drink) and not very knowledgable in regards to the menu. The good - Cool bar area. The appetizers and pizzas are good. Summary - Good spot for lunch or drinks and appetizers while down at derby. For dinner you are better off going to one of the area's better offerings (e.g. Square Cafe or Scarlet Oak)

I will give it 2 stars only because of the inventiveness of some of the menu items, but overall it is definitely overpriced and the service isn't good at all. I went around 3p for lunch, asked to sit outside. The place was empty, only 1 other table with patrons outside and 1 table where a couple had just arrived at the same time I did. Waited for over 20 minutes and no sign of the waitress. The couple that arrived when I did got tired of waiting and left. I had to go inside and peek to see if anyone was coming, and the woman who seated me came outside asking if waitress had been over. "Nope, not yet." She finally came out and took my order, but the wait was unreasonable for such an un-busy hour of the day. The bread with the white bean/olive oil dip wasn't bad, certainly interesting. I ordered the tomato avocado salad, which had some interesting flavors. The tagliatelle bolognese was at best...weird. From what I recall, the menu mentions it is a "hearty meat sauce," and bolognese is usually a red sauce. The waitress mentioned when I ordered it that the sauce had a "touch of cream," but the overall flavor of it was just strange. It was almost tangy, which is not what I expected at all. I also found it odd that I was served what appeared to be the lunch sized portion but was charged for the full dinner sized portion. After the initial delay with the waitress, her response time was actually decent. All in all, overpriced food, questionable service. I may give it another chance and try the veal meatball sandwich...

Solid food, but the service needs improvement. I've had two great lunches here. Great atmosphere, really nice romantic decor so I decided to make a dinner reservation here for my husband and I for an overdue date night - with two kids under age 3 a night out is a real occasion. I made the reservation in advance and asked to be seated anywhere but in the middle of the dining room. We were seated... you got it... right in the middle of the dining room. Our server was efficient, yet impersonal. The food was very tasty however. The italian spring rolls are amazing. Fish was cooked perfectly, nice and moist. We both enjoyed our meals.. though with the noise in the middle of the dining room we talked later on a nice stroll around the Derby shops.

Great experience. I'll keep this short as all I can say is no complaints. Excellent food, excellent wine list, good selection of beers, and our waitress was awesome! Highlights: ceasar salad, great! Pizza app awesome! I didn't get any but the sangria was apparently really good. No on at our table of 7 had any complaints about anything, in fact we were all raving about he food. One suggestion, wasn't a huge fan of the dip hat came out with the bread, wasn't bad just not a huge fan. Suggest maybe some olive oil and herbs as an alternate.

I only went here for drinks one night a few weeks ago, but I will definitely be back. The first bar my friends and I went to was far too crowded (Bruins game), so we decided to check out the bar at Rustic. It was such a cool looking bar! Great decor, nice lighting, and the bar was still pretty full for a late Wednesday night. I was starving, and ordered the tuna tartar. Was amazing and HUGE. I was not expecting it to be so big, and I really enjoyed its presentation and flavor. I ordered a cappucino martini, which I was wary of because I am not a martini drinker, but this was so tasty and creamy; it really hit the spot. The bartender was attentive and pleasant even though it was late, and Im sure they were closing soon. I think I may go back for my birthday dinner, was a great sneak peak to what seems to be a great time!

I feel Rustic Kitchen has been on the decline for awhile now however my mom and I wanted to have a nice ladies lunch and she choose Rustic Kitchen. Upon arrival, I was early and the hostess treated me as an inconvenience. The restaurant was empty however she would not seat me. Plus she was cracking her gum loudly, it was so tacky I walked outside. Eventually we were seated (gum still popping.) Our waitress was a love however she quoted yesterday's specials which we did order by mistake. 20 minutes later she came back and said we need to reorder. It took that long to realize? My mom's pizza was bland, my salad was terrible. Dry chicken, mushy strawberries and no dressing. Mediocre service, mediocre food, not inexpensive. I am not rushing back here. There are other yummy places at Derby to visit to eat. Sorry Todd.

Consistently great food here. I go here around 3 times a month and I have no complaints. Bistro salad is great, their oysters are good, steaks are always cooked just how I ask for it. Wish I had room for dessert more often... that pumpkin cheesecake is delicious!

I keep coming back to Rustic Kitchen, and it's a solid choice for dining on the South Shore. We don't exactly have a superfluous amount of good restaurants in this area, but Rustic Kitchen stands out as a great choice for a regular night out. You can go ultra fancypants at this place, or grab a bite at the uber trendy and intimate bar area. The one qualm I have with this place is they seem to be mystified as to how to prepare seafood. On one visit, the tuna tartare special was a massively sized mound of tuna with tomatoes and onions. However, the tomatoey-garlicky-oniony part of the tartare completely overwhelmed the flavor of the tuna. On another visit, the crab salad completely lacked seasoning, leaving the crab lacking all flavor. I'm looking forward to the outdoor seating opening this spring as the weather gets warmer. This place is a great option for Boston-style dining locally.

I feel I have to say something to offset the number of negative reviews I've read here. I've dined at rustic kitchen since it first opened years ago. I probably go once every month or two. The Italian piazza ambiance is authentic. The wait staff are uniformly excellent - some so good that I wonder why they're even here. The food can be very good. I've never had a bad meal. Do call ahead and don't expect to dash in on a Friday or Saturday night unannounced and sit without waiting.

If you are looking for a nice night out, the Rustic Kitchen is a great find! The restaurant's lighting and decor makes for a cozy and intimate ambiance-- perfect for a date or a night out with friends. However, be sure to make reservations, especially on the weekends because it can fill up quickly and cause a longer wait than it's worth. The drinks are always fabulous and the server starts your night off with a basket of fresh bread and a bean and oil dip that leaves you wanting more when it disappears. For a low maintenance appetizer, I strongly recommend the parmesan truffle fries. I have had these at other restaurants but none ever compared to the ones at Rustic Kitchen. For an entree, I got the porcini mushroom tortellini in a cream sauce that had an ample amount of spinach, mushrooms and pine nuts that you could enjoy all the ingredients in every bite. Delicious food, fabulous drinks and great service, so why not give a 5 star review? I feel that it is a little more pricey than it deserves, especially if you have to wait a while to be seated, and sometimes the clientele can be a bit pretentious. Then again, what can you expect from a Derby Shoppes location?

Rustic kitchen was good, but not great, in every respect. Four of us ordered four different lunches. All were attractively served and all were eaten without any particular enthusiasm. Wait staff seemed bored.
