Pros + Food is the best I've had in the area + You don't have to wait to get a refill, you simply get it yourself + You don't have to tip, although it is appreciated + Family oriented; great for gatherings + Inexpensive, when you consider that tipping is optional and you can bring your own beverages + Liquor store next door, with a variety of selections (wine, soda, beer, water, etc) Cons - Really loud place. You'll have to yell, so be prepared - Limited seating; you will feel crammed - Different dining experience, which may not be for everyone - No ice, so drink quickly +/- Full house especially on weekends; there's a reason why this place is popular and has such a good rating!

Food is good but experience is weird. Order at counter, get your own silverware and water. Seating is very tight. BYOB with an attached wine and beer store. Very crowded by 5:15 on a Saturday afternoon. I will go again but need to be sure that I have a backup in case there are no seats.

Filho's is very busy and seems to do most of its business in takeout. While I am not generally a fan of Italian restaurants (I can make my own pasta, thank you very much! -- plus I'm terrified of the cream and butter they throw in), there were two things about Filho's that made it four stars: 1. BYOB. This is very rare in the New England area, and it should be less rare because it feels like such a treat all the time. Filho's is connected to a liquor store with a great beer and wine selection. You can go there after you've put in your name for a table, and just chill for a while picking out wine and beer until your table is ready. They seemed to have a fabulous craft beer selection, and had a beer and wine out and little cups to taste them for free. On top of that, the beer itself seemed to be reasonably priced -- maybe I'm just used to city prices, but 8.99 for a six pack of something fancy??!! Sign me up. 2. The portions are literally gigantic (except for on the ravioli and stuffed style pastas). The salads are huge, the gnocchi was huge, the linguine was huge. I eat a lot, and yet this time I was full and it looked like I had hardly touched my food. You should definitely do this place family style (NOT a plate per person), and you could probably even order a plate to every two people. While it seems a little on the expensive side, the portion sizes clearly make up for that initial perception. Did I think the food was especially great? No, not really. It was good, but it was pasta. I enjoyed the house salad a lot, and would probably split that with someone if I get a chance to go back. But I do think that Filho's is a good value for what it is, and there's a cute atmosphere with lots of light and big windows. It is a little confusing if you are eating in -- you put in your name, get a table, then pretty much do everything yourself (get your water, get your glasses, get your silverware, put in your order at the counter, etc). ALSO!! If you are drinking, they will card you. Be aware.

As a table, we decided that Filhos deserves a great rating. The atmosphere is cute & cozy. Small but warm and family oriented. You do not get a server but rather order at the counter and food is brought to you. You get your own water, silverware, napkins, etc. which was one of the only things we didn't love. But hey, it's different! Filhos is connected to a liquor store where you are able to buy single beers or bottles of wine to have with your meal. Great business idea! We all tried different entrees and all were FABULOUS. The chicken parm was great; tender chicken with melty mozzarella and homemade red sauce. BEWARE; their red sauce is quite spicy! I was told by another one from our table that the cheese raviolis were the best she had ever had. I had the parecchi di Marsala which consisted of chicken, veal, and shrimp with sundried tomatoes and mushrooms over pasta except I got Pesto Alfredo sauce instead of marsala. This was quite possibly the best meal I have had ever. AMAZING! Desserts were even more impressive. Get the homemade amaretto cream cake and you will not be disappointed!!!

Filhos Cucina offers okay Italian food in a lively (loud) atmosphere. They do not offer any gluten free pasta. They also do not offer any kids sized portions. When we stopped in to pick up some take out recently, we ordered two pints of salads (bean and cucumber salads). My three year old daughter wanted some pasta salad but I cant share that with her because I cant eat gluten. When I asked for a smaller portion even a half pint, they said that they dont offer that. I was told " If you want the salad, you have to take a whole pint" (the woman was not very nice). So needless to say, we will not be returning. Filhos is way over rated.

I would give Filho's 5 stars for the food and 3 for the atmosphere. The food is fantastic, but, if you can get a table it is very noisy and the people waiting for a table tend to bump into you. I guess this is supposed to be part of the charm, but I prefer to try to find a time when the lines aren't out the door. You can bring your own wine/beer which is nice. If you forget, there is a liquor store right next door. Getting food to go is a great idea. I will always go back to Filho's; just at a non-busy time!

A little different, but top notch. Study the board with the menu, order at the counter, sit down and wait for your dishes to be brought over. I had the Ravioli di Arogosta and my wife had the Linguine alla Nonna; both very well done. A good sign was that there appeared to be a lot of local folks. Our timing worked out, because there are not a lot of tables and I can imagine there might be times where you'd have to wait a bit to be seated. Friendly waitstaff, casual atmosphere, nothing fancy, but really excellent fare.

Filho's can be great, but it's often uneven. I had a fabulous Gemelli con Pollo last week - succulent grilled chicken, perfect pasta, al dente broccolini. So I went back again this week - tough, odd-tasting, overcooked chicken that seemed like reheated leftovers, mushy pasta, overcooked brownish, broccolini, way over seasoned sauce. This has happened in the past. I paid ~$50 for a tray of lasagna - perfectly cooked, tasted great. So I got a second tray for another event - cooked completely differently - the lasagna was stuffed with very hot sausage, too hot for the kids and even some of the adults. it was a big disappointment, as it was the featured dish. Service is also often uneven. You may get bread, but then again you may not. They may think to tell you about the water and where to serve yourself, and then again, they may not. And the serving sizes are odd. You can't get a single serving of a salad or side. So you're forced into buying full platefuls of everything. Or leaving off the sides, and having part of a meal. But when the food is cooked well, it can be great. You just can never tell.

Thick-ish flatbread pizzeta, and delish house marinara, and good house sausage make for nice pizza lunch. Also insalada in the deli case are worth a go... Very quick to prep the take out order!

Delicious sandwiches- especially the Lindsay's Grilled Chicken. Food is well priced, and the ingredients/bread are always fresh. Make sure to call ahead because the place definitely gets busy on weekend nights.

Mediocre food and atmosphere. I tried a shrimp ravioli dish and some noodles with beef. Both tasted subpar and, frankly, a little fake. Also, a warning: if you step outside Filhos, you will encounter a DASTARDLY stench.

I've followed this chef for 20 years. Now he's owned Filho's for a few years. Make a trip out here every few months. LOVE IT!! Everything we've ever tried has been fabulous. Told some friends about it, they are now hard core regulars too.

Given the positive reviews, it was scary how disappointing our experience was. Fatty overcooked food, pasta drowned in heavy sauce, nothing prepared freshly (not even the salad, sits in a big bowl whole day/s) catering quality at maximum... And all that at high prices, very noisy atmosphere, and virtually no service. To complete the picture, my wife got her stomach upset after the visit.

Ordered take-out recently and fell in love. We got the Tortellini Broccoli and the Gnocchi dish (one cream sauce and the other marinara), as well as Garlic Bread. The garlic bread was good, but nothing to write home about. The entrees, however, were amazing! Full of fresh ingredients, unique combinations of flavors, perfect portions for the price, and surprisingly, the dishes held up very well during the 15 minute drive back home. During the few minutes I was inside to pick up the order, I realized that the interior space is rather small and crowded, and on that particular night it was very noisy. I had to yell just to hear the woman when picking up my order. I will likely only ever order take-out from here, but if I ever decide to dine in, I will do it on a night with far fewer people. This is my new pasta / hearty take-out food go-to!

All the way from Florida looking for amazing food and I definitely found some here. The atmosphere was very pleasant and all of the staff were more than nice! I would recommend this place to anyone! BIG thanks to the wonderful staff for a great dinner!!!

lunch recently.....very popular small place which does a LOT of take out....cozy inside and small, with a pretty good sized menu and specials that are updated daily (and they even keep their web page updated,,,,how rare is that????)....byob but that's easy as there is an excellent beer wine (and liquor) store attached......food was excellent, it is order and they will bring your food, service very pleasant.....great place, everything was great!!!

Amazing! I loved the garlic bread, and the staff are wicked friendly. I really like the sandwiches, and the salads are huge! (As well as delicious). Also, they had gnocci salad, which I had never seen before. It is delicious.

I used to go to this place a lot,but it seemed the more popular it got is when the food started suffering. The Chicken Marsala is what I used to get,but the last time I got it the chicken was over-cooked,still somewhat tasty and edible though...My Girlfriend ordered the salmon they had on specials board, and it was raw.I mean it seemed like it was taken out of the freezer and pan seared for about 40 seconds each side.Sent it back and got it cooked again and it was edible, although the middle was still a little raw for my tastes. Prior to that visit I got a shrimp dish and the shrimp was over-cooked.Although that didn't stop me from going again because my girlfriend loves the place. It is a great value and I will go there again, for my girlfriend.

Great little place! Not a lot of seating, but the food is delicious AND it's BYOB with a wine/beer store attached! We had Penne con Broccolini, Penne con Spinacci, Pollo Marsala and the daily special w/ shrimp & chicken. All four dishes were delicious and serving sizes were large enough for leftovers. We ordered Tiramasu to split between the four of us just for something sweet to end the meal. It was so good we ordered 3 more pieces "to go"! They also have a carry-out menu that my daughter orders from weekly. This is one of her favorite places in the area! Friendly staff and quick service as well.

Recently ordered takeout and tried the shrimp broccoli penne - another great choice. We also ordered the "buffala mozzarella, basil, and tomato" in the insalate section and was surprised at the preparation - we thought it would be prepared how we've experienced it in other more Italian restaurants (since there were no field greens in the description we thought it would be served as the usual large slices of mozzarella and tomato with basil leaves in between). It is actually a full salad preparation with field greens mixed with the small mozzarella balls and grape tomatoes. Was a good salad but just not what we expected. Customer service on the phone was again excellent and very friendly.

The food is great, but it isn't cheap. A sandwich will cost you close to $9-10. There is some eat on tables, but not too many so take out is your best bet. Gets super busy.

What a great local eatery! Always friendly staff and great food. Their specials are awesome. Has always been the best value in town for a meal. Although we have noticed that our takeout price has gotten slightly more expensive. Hope they don't raise the prices. One time we had an issue with our order and they were so busy that we had to leave. A couple weeks later we got a gift certificate in the mail no less thanking us for coming in and sorry for the issue.

This place was phenomenal! Small little family owned Italian joint out in Groton MA. This is one of the best Italian places I have been to since Giacomo's in the north end of Boston. Their portions are more than generous, the staff was great and the atmosphere was very comfortable. We can't wait to go back!!

This was an unusual restaurant when we dined here last month. We were given a gift certificate and told that the food is fabulous but we should avoid regular mealtimes as it's too crowded. That advice was fairly accurate. We arrived early for dinner, around 5:00, and the place was packed. Not just packed, but uncomfortably crowded with cramped tables and the tiny restaurant overflowing with people standing in the way. They had this screwy system where you have to stand in line to place your order and then wait for a long time for your name to be called. They seat you, then you wait a while longer for them to serve what you ordered a long time ago. While we were waiting for a table, I overheard the loud and uncouth chef (the owner, I imagine) rudely scolding servers. It was disgraceful, and coupled with the crowded and tense atmosphere it made for an unpleasant experience. The cashier was curt, though our servers were nice. The food was delicious but was pricey for modest portions and could not make up for the unpleasant atmosphere. I would not return here.

This little place is a gem. Fantastic pasta dishes, friendly service and the little passage to the alcohol joint next door is brilliant. The linguine misto is my fav, all the gamelli dishes are great, and the lobster ravs will blow you away. I have to visit fitchburg once a month for work (I'm from Cali), and we go to this place every time.

This is by far some of the best Italian food I've had in Massachusetts. The food at Filho's is the way it is in Italy ... made with a few quality fresh ingredients thrown together to create an amazing dish. None of this Olive Garden crap that people call 'authentic Italian' ... full of cheap ingredients and too many spices, etc. The only thing I can fault this place about is that they really need to expand ... which is not a criticism ... it is an observation. Almost any time of the day, this place is crowded and there is no parking. However, to try to sit at a table and eat lunch here during actual lunch hours ... good luck. But the food here is honestly so good, it is to be expected that the parking situation will be crazy and all the tables taken. The prices are more than one would expect for an average pizza parlor, but if you come for lunch ... $12 - $15 for a plate of pasta will be a BARGAIN for what you get. Trust me ... a dish of pasta is so big, you will be able to split it or take some home for a small meal later. All the pasta is made fresh ... you can see the amazing pasta salads, etc. in the refridgerated case near the register. Things are thrown together quickly because it is busy ... so it isn't exactly always cooked perfect. But, the taste is AMAZING ... and the fact that each dish only contains a few ingredients that come together perfectly is a TRUE Italian concept that many restaurants don't get. Everything is good but I would recommend the pasta and sausage for a crisp fall day. Your order comes with fresh baked bread ... which is slightly crisp on the outside but so light and airy inside, its like a cloud. Very good when dipped in the olive oil which is at each table. It's worth the wait and the crowds ... you can find parking along the street in Groton, so if you take a bit of a walk, it's no biggie when all of the 8 spots are taken. There is a small liquor store next door (the restaurant is BYOB) and you put your order in at the counter and then grab a table and they bring you the food. If you see a table, snag it because it does get busy and sometimes there just aren't enough tables in this small place ... so you take your order to go and eat it on a bench or even in your car. ha ha This menu will please just about anyone and if you like authentic Italian with great ingredients, its worth paying a little more than some stale pizza place that uses frozen ingredients.

Great place to get a nice quick bite to eat. We went hiking for the day and wanted to get a quick bite to eat before heading back to Boston. We wanted to have a decent dinner but in a not so fancy place simply because we were dressed in our hiking gear. We stumbled upon this cute little restaurant. Great food and I am pretty sure it's BYOB. You basically order at the counter pick a table and they bring you your order. Food was delicious and huge portions. Worth the money and not expensive at all.

This place has really lost it's edge. Filho's used to be a weekly staple in my household. But after years of an largely unchanged, boring menu and the fact that their popularity has started to affect the quality of the food, I really don't go here anymore. Their chicken Marsala used to be one of my favorite dishes on earth, but lately the chicken is dried out and there's waaaay too much Marsala in it. I have an extensive culinary background... I can tell when a dish is carefully prepared and when it's being thrown together because they have a 30 person line out the door. Filho's ... if I could give you one piece of advice... either expand or slow the F down. I know you're in a terrible location for expansion (and parking... for the love of God, the parking is torturous) but I also know a lot of your old regulars echo my sentiment. Go back to being just takeout or become a full service restaurant. What you have going on now ain't working for either of us. I just want my chicken marsala back... and maybe a nice new vodka penne or spaghetti carbonara. Oh... and ease up on the herbs in the marinara... it tastes like I just shook McCormick dried oregano into my mouth.

Problems with consistency, but has lots of potential. Our first visit was mostly red sauce meals, and each one was a swamp of watery red sauce, yuk. I don't know if they just forgot to drain the pasta, or thats how they like it, but I didn't even finish half. Our second time around we went with white wine sauces, Linguine with Clam Sauce and Linguine alla Nonna. Both were delicious! Deserts were good as well, they offer a solid tiramisu. Basically the prices are high (~$15 for an entree), and I'm not getting consistently good food. So for now it's 3 stars. It's certainly very very popular (good luck getting a seat, and you have to call back 15 times to get through) and the byob is refreshing. If I go more often and I keep getting good food, I will upgrade. I just feel like for the price the fact that I have to avoid half the menu when I order really kills the desire to frequent it.

Lindsey's grilled chicken sandwich. Five star sandwich!! Tortolini brocholini!!! Penne con brocholini (with/without) chicken! The tiramisu!! The meatballs!!! The gnocchi!!! The best!!! Filhos is a force to be recond with in Groton!!!

This place is small and I was confused as to how this place worked but quickly caught on. You can take your own seats. This place was packed when I went in the summer time and has a small amount of tables to sit outside also. I think they should put a sign up stating to take your own seat and order your own meals and the liquor store is next door for beverages, that would of helped my confusion for the first time being there. However a waitress will bring your bread and ask how everything is. I think its useless to have the waitresses but onto the food which by the way was fantastic! Fresh and fabulous! Delicious! Yummy! Excellent!

Ohhhh Filho's, we have a love/hate relationship. Now listen, if you're willing to wait about an hour, likely standing up, for some amazing Italian food, then this is the place for you. Hands down, some of the best food I've put in my mouth. Simply fantastic. I think I got something that was to the tune of a Chicken Cacciatore, but with a different name. It was excellent. However, the wait beforehand was painful. You're standing up for about an hour (this was a Saturday night, so OK maybe not the best idea), literally shoulder to shoulder with everyone around you. Here's the process: 1) Come in.. 2) put in your name for a table.. 3) get in line... 4) order your food... 5) wait a lifetime 6) pray to god there's a table available at the same exact time that your food comes out. Luckily it worked out for us. A table became available right when our food came out. I'm sure there's some kind of system for this, but imagine waiting all that time and having to hold your food until someone moved? Yeah. Oh, so a plus is that there's a liquor store attached. So you go over, get your wine, then come over to Filho's where you can pick up some wine glasses and start drinking while you wait. Not so bad I guess. So there's the experience. I Imagine coming in on a weekday is a better idea, and ordering take-out ahead of time is an even better idea. On the weekends: Don't bring the kids. Don't bring the elderly. Don't bring the handicapped. Anyone who's impatient, needs to sit down, or requires more than a square foot of space is going to be miserable. I have to say though, the food is worth it. I wouldn't say that about most places, but the food here is actually worth standing up in line, for an hour, in a swarm of hungry people. So yeah.

We go here a lot, the food is very good. The 1 thing I don't like is that they make me feel like a beggar when I have to ask for bread if I order four meals I expect to get a more than a quarter-loaf of bread and I really shouldn't have to ask for it.

Excellent, excellent food. Extremely casual atmosphere. Very "Groton". --- This place is unlike any restaurant you've ever been to. Let me explain: You order and pay up at the counter, then hopefully get a table and wait for them to bring you your food. They do not serve liquor or beer here, nor do they serve drinks (aside from iced tea or bottled water). You will be brought some cold (but fresh) bread, but the rest is up to you: Over by the front door you will find napkins, silverware (plastic-ware too), oil and vinegar for the bread, pitchers of water and glasses. Your food will take a while to show up, so feel free to take time and set your own table, or go next door to the attached "market" (liquor store) and pick up some sodas or wine/beer for your dinner/lunch. There are wine glasses up near the water glasses by the counter. There is a sliding door that is kind of a pain to open, but that's the "cool" way to go next door and get your drinks. It has a very secretive speakeasy feel to it. --- The star is the food. The turkey sandwich is out of this world. I didn't care for the mustard on it - it was far too overpowering for my tastes - but the bread was gorgeous: light and flaky and buttery. I've never had anything like it on a sandwich! Everyone else enjoyed their dishes as well. I came back the next night for dinner and had pasta - a meat tortellini dish with broccoli and a nice alfredo sauce - very good and hit the spot. We enjoyed our own wine while waiting and had a great time. Again, everyone else loved their dishes as well. The baked haddock was beautiful - so fresh and tender. Thinking about that now is making me hungry! --- When I say this place is very "Groton", I mean they're trying real hard to make it this unique establishment: Super casual atmosphere, set your own damn table, go get your own drinks, but the food is phenomenal. Once you learn this unique routine, which I found unsettling at first, you learn to love it. And the food here outshines it all. Definitely a must.

Filho's has the best Italian food in the area. The expansive selection of pasta dishes, salads, sandwiches, and other amazing items is only half of your experience at this restaurant. The staff is very friendly, and they treat you as friends if you go there more than once. At one depressing point in my life I had 20 dollars in my bank account- I was invited to Filho's and spent the rest of my money without regret.

Great Italian food North of Boston. Very surprised with the quality and authenticity of the food so far away from Boston. The cooks understand the cooking very well and has been consistant for the 4 times I have been there. The Veal dishes are exquisit, pasta is good. Wish it was home made pasta .. The price was a little high for the lack of service at the restaurant (order at the counter yourself). The Bread was fair but the sauces , specifically the red sauces are very good, light and flavorful as they should be, letting the main course speak for itself. The salad was great with fresh cheese, and Appetizers were good as well.. Very small venue, bring a bottle of wine for the wait with your significant other because on Friday and Saturday night the wait can be as long as 45min... Worth the wait.. NPOLCE

This place was extremely crowded and noisy. There is no table service and that wasn't explained when we arrived. It would be nice if there was a card at each table explaining you need to order at the counter first. You also need to get your own cups and silverware. There are pitchers of water available at the counter. Because the place was so crowded it was difficult to get to the counter to reach a pitcher. Because the dining room was so crowded we had to regularly get up to let people get by. My meal was delicious - linguine with artichokes and tomatoes. My boyfriend's was "okay, not worth the noise and chaos". He had the veal parm. I don't think we'll go back. We may order take-out in the future. Personally, going out to a restaurant is a break for me. I had to work too hard here.

This place is very popular - the ambience is a buzz and you can meet people you know and don't yet here... the food tends to be heavy though and the sauces rich... they also are not good about vegetarian options. I ordered frutti di mare without the seafood and am not convinced the ravioli was vegetarian as described... it seemed like it was pork filling rather than mascarpone and raddhichio as described, also ravioli was huge - each ravioli was like at least two raviolis in one. I wrote to the restaurant to complain about the ravioli not being vegetarian. They do have some waitstaff service to bring your food but you have to order it at the counter.

Filho's is the best Italian food in the area. We usually order takeout because of the tight seating area and difficultly parking. The bread is very good and fresh. The pasta and chicken dishes are phenomenal!! The red sauce is very tasty and authentic!! All the food is always fresh!! If you are in the area you must try it!

This place is always packed..... and I don't understand the appeal of the establishment other than the fact that it is one of the only restaurants in town. The sauces have always been watery and tasteless, their pasta overcooked, and their meat dishes overpriced, flavorless, and dry. I gave it a few chances due to the buzz from everyone raving about it, but I've been consistently let down each and every time. The only reason I didn't give it one star is because they never gave me food poisoning.

Excellent Italian fare right in the heart of Groton. This place is always busy, which is probably the best sign of a place that serves great food. If you are looking to go there for dinner, be prepared to wait and do a little leg work. They have a waitstaff, but they basically just run your food to your table. You'll be getting your own water and silverware; don't expect the runner to come back to your table to see if everything is OK. Although, I've never had a bad meal there, so I don't think you would ever run into that problem. That being said, the best way to experience their food is take out, especially when you are hungry and don't want to wait around for a table to free up. But even parking to get your take-out can be a challenge. The pasta is delicious and their panini sandwiches make a great meal for lunch, but the same warning applies about the waiting around for a table. If you do manage to score a table for dinner, be sure to stop in at the liquor store that is attached to it and grab yourself an adult beverage for the meal. I'd give it a full 5 stars, but the crazy wait that you'll usually encounter for a sit down meal docks them a point.

Nom, nom, freaking nom. Filho's makes some amazing food. We have always done takeout there since the sit down area is so small and noisy. Literally every single time I've gone there I've struggled to find parking, and it is always packed. Some of the reviews say this place isn't vegetarian friendly, but I disagree. Vegans may come disappointed (there is lots of cheese, cream and butter in pretty much everything), but this place has some of my most favorite vegetarian dishes, probably ever. Favorites include: * Buffala Mozzarella, Basil and Tomato Salad - I have a weakness for mozzarella and tomato anything and this salad is delectable with a wonderful dressing. * Buffala Tomato and Pesto Panini - literally the best mozzarella and tomato sandwich I've ever had anywhere. * Verdura Panini - fresh vegetables, melted provolone, and warm bread. * Penne Con Spinaci - the description of this meal says "light" cream sauce. It is anything but light, but it is so damn tasty. * Gnocchi Florentine - perfectly cooked gnocchi in a savory sauce. * Ravioli di Funghi - mushrooms, cheese, cream sauce. Need I say more? The meat eaters in my life assure me the non-veg options are equally as delicious.

Filho's Rocks! Fantastic food for sharing with friends over a bottle of wine (or two)! We've tried quite a few different menu items from pizza, to pasta to seafood dishes as well the desserts. Everything was excellent. We always have a salad and they are great . The display case in front showing the array of salads is hard to resist so get a variety and share. You won't be disapppointed. We usually get take out for the family for that night which is always met with rave reviews. Awesome people - Major shout out to Server Sue and Chef Eddie from the 3 boisterous and bawdy girls who take over the large table occasionally on a Friday afternoon.

Filho's Cucina is a wonderful place to go for dinner, order take out and use for catering party's. I have done all of these things since the day it opened and I will continue to do so. Some of our favorites are the Lindsey's Grilled Chicken Sandwich, the Misto Griglia Salad, the Chicken Parmesan, Sausage Gemeli and any of the weekly fish specials. Filho's doesn't disappoint on quality, quantity or price. Enjoy!

Healthy Italian food done well! Filho's not only offers great tasting dishes, but they are impressively accustomed to, and willing to be, accommodating for those that prefer to eat with more health conscious preferences and/or for those that have dietary restrictions! 10 of their 13 Piatti dishes can be ordered no flour, no butter (they'll use just olive oil), no cheese, plus grilled veggies can be substituted for pasta. Perfect! And the food still tasted fantastic!! This first trip I tried the Pollo Verona with the above modifications and I really enjoyed it! Tender chicken, tasty shrimp, and lots of tender hearty large sliced mushrooms in a nice strongly flavorful yet light marsala sauce. The grilled vegetables were a welcome alternative to pasta. (I was also told one can just order a side of the grilled veggies with a side of the marina or other sauces if desired). As many said, expect your first trip to Filho's to feel chaotic, and be prepared to opt for your order "to go" instead of dining in. But after the first trip, you'll have the routine down for the next time. Even at 6pm on a Thurs, this place was jam packed and hopping. I get the feeling that is the usual pace of this place, and after trying their food, I can appreciate why. But even among the madness, they still took time to review and volunteer the different options on how I could order my food, which I was impressed with. I'm looking forward to going back and trying other dishes! I think one of the Fra- Diavlo dishes has my name on it for the next time! NOTE: Celiacs and highly gluten intolerant folk may want to confirm with Filho's before going, as I got the impression they may not be set up/equipped to fully avoid cross contamination of gluten, but I could be wrong.

a place where you can buy alcohol next door and bring it over. This is a good experience. A fair price for really good Italian food. The service was adequate but not what one would see at a high end place. The seating is quite limited so don't go there during prime time or get food to go.

Crowded, chaotic, takeout not hot, sauce tastes like it comes from a can. Not impressed. If this is the best takeout in the area, we're in trouble. Super cute liquor store attached, though.

We visited Filho's last Saturday night. Got there around 8 and it was still really busy. We were staning inside the door looking around and a member of the staff greeted us and asked if we'd been there before. When we said no, she walked us through the process of grabbing a table, ordering at the counter, BYOB, etc. Very friendly and really helpful to a newbie. We ordered 2 salads and 2 entrees. WAY too much food for 2 people! Portions were large - we could have shared a salad and still had leftovers. The food was great. Served quickly, piping hot, with very fresh ingredients. They really seemed to care about the quality of the food. We'll go back again for lunch or takeout, but not a Saturday night date night dinner - it's just not a "have another drink and chat after you've finished your meal" kind of place. I felt a bit rushed since there were people milling around looking for a table so we packed the remainder of our wine and finished it at home. If only they had a sister location with a real dining room. I'd be in heaven...

Amazing food, which makes the slightly crowded area worth it. In response to a comment below about whether they can handle celiacs and gluten allergy/intolerance, they definitely CAN. I was just there and they have a system where they can make just about anything on the menu with gluten free flour and substitute vegetables for the pasta (they do not have gluten free pasta). Delicious!!

My husband and I love getting Filho's takeout. Everything we've had here is from high quality ingredients and is delicious. The chicken parm is one of my favorites and they make the best Italian sandwiches I've ever had.

Never had a bad meal here! I live in town and since there are not too many food establishments we are lucky to have such a good one! I even used them when we had our house warming for a few yummy platters! The only downside is this place is super busy and sometimes you have to call multiple times to get through and place your order. We tend to do take-out from here a lot. We love the house salads with chicken! My husband love the chicken parm and I usually go for the chicken piccata- both wonderful dishes!!

My favorite pasta place. I travel 40 minutes for takeout here. Always get the linguini di Cucina and it is always delicious.

Food is consistently good, except fish and seafood which tend to be hit or miss. We love it there if you can stand the noise and e wait for a table.
I can't believe I put off so long going here. I should have known by the nightly crowded parking lot that Filho's had to be good, and I was not disappointed! Filho's is definitely best for take-out, as the cafe-style restaurant is rather small and often busy. We stopped in on a Friday night after work to check it out, and no surprise the place was packed. The tables were full, and lots of people were coming and going to pick up their food. We ordered there and waited about 10-15 minutes, which wasn't bad considering the volume of patrons. Besides, we had the glass case full of delicious-looking cold pasta dishes and the rich smells from the open kitchen to tantalize our hunger. The staff was very friendly and the place had a nice local feel. The cashier knew some of the customers by name and shared some friendly banter. Always a good sign. We brought home an order of their garlic bread with mozzarella, the Gnocchi Florentine for me, and the Gemelli Salsiccia for my husband. Everything was simply excellent. We live just under 10 minutes away, so everything was still piping hot when we got home. I am a big-time pasta lover (it's my favorite food) so I was in heaven. Everything was cooked perfectly, and the supporting ingredients in each dish were very fresh and savory. I mopped up the sauce with the garlic bread, enjoying every last bit of my dish. Filho's has earned a spot in our takeout rotation. We will definitely be back!

The secret to Filho's is to take a day off from work, go kayaking on the Nashua river and stop by afterwards for a late lunch. Buy a bottle of wine and relax sitting at one of the outside tables, chat up a table of young Groton women whose husbands are hard at work in Boston, and remember how nice life can be.

Yummy! Filho's is a short walk from my office and since I have only been working in this area for about 2 weeks, I had not yet tried it until today and boy and I glad I did!!! From the outside, the building is clean, bright, casual and appealing. The inside was just the same. Very clean, simple yet tastefully decorated. Upon walking up to the counter, they have a glassed in cooler with whatever salads they have on special for the day. They ALL LOOKED AMAZING!!! I was not in a salad mood so I opted for the tomato, mozzarella and pesto sandwich, and it was DELICIOUS!!! The prices are a bit high, but then again that is to be expected in a small town consisting of mainly small cafe's and restaurants for food options. Portions were what I consider to be average...and my only other complaint would be that you cannot get side orders of any of their salads...what a shame, but the prices and lack of a side salad are the only factors behind my 4 stars rather than 5. I am going back tomorrow to try the grilled veggie sandwich!!! Make the journey to Groton, but do it just before 12 or between 1:30 and 5. I hear the place is a mad house during peak times!!!!!!

Very, very good food, and the salads are appealing to look at...AND to eat. It's a lilttle confusing for first timers because, unless you look very carefully at what is going on, it's unclear that you have to wait in line to order. Then it's not clear that they deliver the food to the table you've chosen to sit at. Persevere, however, because they are usually PACKED, making it chaotic, but it IS worth it. There's a door connecting the restaurant to the liquor/wine store next door, so after you place your order, run into the liquor store and grab a small (or large!!!) bottle of wine to have with your dinner...Filho's has wine glasses ready and waiting to be used. Dull review, I know, but that's because we haven't been there in over seven months, and I have to go there soon to get refreshed...what I DO remember is that I love going there.

I really love Italian food. This place is not bad at all!! I found that the portions are quite generous.Fantastic Italian for eat in or take out. Check out their menu online! I waited 20 minutes to be seated. It's BYOB which is even more fantastic. Check out my Yelp list for other fine BYOB restaurants all over New England.

Without question one of our favorite dinner spots. BYOB great prices and Italian food as good as any other. Kind of noisy and best to go after 7:15 if you want to eat in vs take out on a sat night.

The food here is very good and is definitely one of the best Italian places outside of Boston. The only downside is the total lack of tables and parking which can be a real pain when its busy. With that said I almost always get take out. For food my favorite is the Lindsey's Grilled Chicken sandwich. The tortellini is amazing, their soups are always good and they always have great specials to choose from so check their website where they update the specials daily before you order. Don't forget desert as their options are always amazing and always changing. They do always have canolis, tiramisu and cheesecake though. If you do choose to eat in the restaurant the staff is great and they give you bread, oil and balsamic to eat while you wait for the food to cook. They also are really nice and try to help deal with the lack of space as best they can. They have "outdoor seating" but unless you want someone's car idling 6 inches from your table its not worth it. I have heard people complain about the lack of a liquor license, but I think the Groton Market (in the same building) has such a good selection at such good prices its actually better!

OK, so if you told me that I would stand in a line, wait for an hour, order from a counter, and be shoe horned in a single row of tables and then say I love this place I would call you CRAZY.....but I love this place. First a nice little wine store next door that you can BYO or bring a bottle from home. The pasta is fresh, the garlic strong, and the Gamberi Scampi is to die for. Tasty gravy for the makings of real Italian food, the standards are great ...ravioli (Ravioli di Formaggio), pasta, and even the panninis are heavenly. My favorite the Ravioli di Aragosta (Lobster Ravioli) and the Veal Saltimboca....but you can't go wrong. Just wish they would open a bigger place!

This place deserves its 5 stars for three separate reasons: 1) Excellent, unpretentious Italian food. You may not encounter white truffle sauce here, but they have a wide selection of very good home cooking dishes. Portions are generous and prices reasonable. They will accommodate requests, if you want to make slight changes. 2) The only aspect that could potentially be criticized of Filho's, is that it is quite small and since they take no reservations, there can be quite a few people waiting (between those wanting to be seated and those picking up take-home), if you go on a week-end night. Nevertheless, the staff is very friendly and the food is delivered quickly. You order and pay at the cashier and they deliver to your table. Even though it was quite hectic when my wife and I went, the lady at the cashier was very friendly, listened to my questions and took the time to make suggestions. 3) This is a BYO establishment, but the genius of it all, is that they abut a liquor store. After you order your meal, you go through a small door to the neighboring but independent store and you choose from a selection of 30-40 different beers bottles. Simply grab a bottle from any six pack in the fridge and pay. They also have wines. Overall, the only thing I sometimes wish for, is that they were a bit larger and took reservations, so that if you chose to drive out to Groton, you had some certainty of being seated quickly (especially with a larger party). But then again, it wouldn't be the laid back Filho's anymore.

This is absolutely our favorite restaurant. We are in here almost every weekend and really miss it when we can't get there. You order at the counter and get your own napkins, silverware, and water, but after that the waitstaff will take care of you. It is a small restaurant that can get very crowded which at first seemed overwhelming, but now it's part of what we enjoy about it. The food is excellent; some of our favorites are the Gemelli Salsiccia, Chicken Parm, Gamberi Carcioffi, and many of the specials, including the Frutti di Mare. We also love that it is BYOB and there is a liquor store attached with a great selection.

Filho's can always be relied on for great service and the best Italian food in Middlesex county. Not a lot of places have veal on the menu anymore, but Filho's veal marsala is without-a-doubt the best I've ever had. If you go here, you have to buy a canole or you are losing the game.

This place would be a legend if it were in the city. As it is, it has a great following. I rated it five stars because I could not find where to add the sixth star. It does much of its business as takeout and I can tell you that trying to eat Tortellini Broccoli while driving is a bad idea. The food here is so good that if you get take out, you will have trouble waiting until you get home. The menu is on-line at: filhoscucina.com/home.asp They are not a pizza place and never will be. Those are a dime a dozen and this place is way better than that. This place does a lot of Italian food that you can't get in a lot of places -- especially as take-out. Soups, pastas, paninis, and chicken, shrimp, and veal dishes. (I wish that they would not serve veal, but that is traditional Italian.) I am a huge fan of the Tortellini Broccoli, Lasagna di Formaggio, and the Pollo Parmesan. There is something for everyone on this menu. Filho's is not open on Monday. Can't blame them, but sometimes I want Italian on a Monday too. They close too early in the evening for my schedule. So, about half the time I would like to go there, I have missed them. Friday and Saturday they are open until 9:00 and they close at 8:00 on the other nights. They don't solve the problem of what to eat when I missed supper because I worked late. The parking lot is kind of small. If you are lucky enough to get a table, you can duck next door to the wine shop that shares the building and bring back wine to the table. Filho's will provide wine glasses to use and has a corkscrew sitting on the counter. Filho's does a lot of catering and I can see why people book them. I have been to several events that they catered and it was every bit as good as at the restaurant. If you can get them, book them. This gem is set in Groton center. There are not a lot of places to eat in Groton and very few worth recommending. Filho's is busy because they are very good and busy because the rest of the choices are bleak. Filho's is worth the ride.

Did you ever want to swim in the food you are eating because it is so good? Then this is the place to eat. Excellent food and you can tell by how busy it is. Be prepared to wait a few minutes, but they are very efficient and it is well worth every minute. Also, the Groton Market is next store, to which you can purchase your favorite adult beverage to have at Filho's. In short, amazing food.

Great place with a bustling crowd. I've always enjoyed every meal I've had there or taken out. Atmosphere: Small, lively, bright decor with set yourself up at the few tables. It is BYOB, which is convenient with a old style liquor store attached to the building. Food: Great Italian fare with excellent Lobster Ravoli and Parmigiana. The specials are always worth trying. Service: It's a bit different in that they serve the food, but do not setup or check on their tables. A fair amount of business is derived from takeout to the towns in the area. Overall: It's great to have a friendly, energetic Italian restaurant in Groton, Ma serving above average food.

I haven't had anything bad from here yet. I really like to eat here on days I need comfort foods. FIlho's really is like eating at my Italian mother's house (they even have an old lady painted on the wall that looks just like my Nona!) The salads are generously portioned and perfectly Mediterranean tasting. The tomato sauce is homemade tasting and savory. The special pizzas they had a few weeks ago was my husbands most favorite pizza ever!

My wife and I have been eating here since we moved to Groton 3 years ago. The food is very fresh and each dish has its own amazing personality. We've even gotten take-out on New Years Eve and were impressed that they could handle all the orders.

Don't think twice about this hidden gem! I've been eating here for year's now, traveling all the way from Beverly, the Cape and Revere for both lunch and dinner and have never had a bad meal! It's my annual birthday dinner location...and i live 10 minutes from the North End! The food is top notch, pricing unbelievable and service, fantastic! Best picks - The Specials Board - always amazing options.. get em while they last though! Lobster Ravioli - my menu favorite - awesome flavor, save some bread for dipping, the sauce is to die for! Misto Griglio Salad - Big enough for 4 to share... sausage, chicken, artichoke, balsamic yumminess!! This place gets busy fast, so get there early! They don't serve alcohol, but it's BYOB and attached to a great wine shop with a huge selection. Or bring your own! No per glass charge, glasses, corkscrews available for use It's counter service and table service for the bread and your dishes. A great ending- dessert! Check out the 6 or more options in the display case and spend your meal dreaming about the rock star Tiramisu, which is listed as "better than my mother's" by my "off-the boat" Italian boyfriend. Filho's... i love you!

Filho's makes my heart sing. I've gotten the Tortellini Pomodoro every time and it never fails to live up to my expectations. The food is fresh and delicious, and the portions are great too. We generally do takeout because it's such a small restaurant and we don't want to risk having to wait for a table, but on a nice afternoon or evening, sitting outside would be fantastic I'm sure. Also parking can be kind of tight here, the lot is small but you can always park across the street at the grocery store.

If you are looking for a very casual atmosphere with fantastic food, this is it. As others have mentioned, there will be a wait, it is a small place and can get quite noisy, there is no liquor license but one can get a lovely bottle of wine at the neighboring package store. Food is ordered at the take-out counter, then you sit and wait. Usually the wait to get the food is shorter than the wait to get a table on a busy evening. Portions are large; I've never finished a meal there. Since the ambiance of the experience is the only drawback, more often we've called ahead for take-out and eaten at home. In most cases, there is enough in one meal to cover lunch the next day. Lots of food, good prices, great quality. A little gem of a place.

If I don't otherwise feel like making the trek, this is great incentive to go back and visit my family. This place is delicious. Stellar pastas (pappardelle noodles were sooo good) and amazing paninis. The wait is never too long and it is in such a cute little shop. The prices are more than reasonable. I definitely recommend stopping by if you are passing through downtown Groton.

This is, hands down, the best place for takeout in the area. The food is very authentically Italian, delicious, and creative. Oh and did I mention the portion size? The meals are huge! I usually get full after eating half of my Penne con Brocollini or Linguine di Cucina, but I can't stop eating it because it's just that good! The marinara sauce is some of the best I've had. Filho's used to be a sort-of hidden gem, but has become insanely popular recently. It's difficult to get a table, hence why we usually get takeout, but if you can find a table it's BYOB and there is a nice liquor store called the Groton Market attached to the restaurant. I have only tried a few of the desserts, but all have not disappointed. Staff has always been friendly and the prices are pretty reasonable, especially for what you are getting. Definitely give this place a try! You will not be sorry.

I am definitely a fan. A bit off of my beaten path, but well worth the trek on back roads, for some of the best italian cuisine that I have experienced west of Italy. This take out style joint, has creative salads and entree selections as well as traditional fare with fresh ingredients. Though many elements are self service, including table selection and "bringing your own beverage" from the connected liquor store, the staff is warm, friendly and engaging.

Absolutely love this place for takeout of high quality Italian food. It is always crazy busy, which goes to show that lots of other people have also discovered this gem. I fell in love with their Italiano sub on my first visit and never get anything else, but the rest of the family rave about other menu items.
(4)
John E.
Had our first sit down meal here. Wow it was excellent. I kind of like the self serve style--no hassles and things are fast. Even the lack of a liquor license turns out to be an advantage because the connected liquor store has a better selection than most restaurants (particularly beer).

Its a pretty little place in the heart of Groton. I did a takeout from there recently of various dishes plus several cannolis and think that they did a great job. The bruschetta was okay, the asiago cheese topping was a bit too strong for me. My favorites are the Gnocchi Florentine and the Linguine with Clam Sauce. I do enjoy their marinara. Will definitely keep their takeout menu handy in the glove compartment. Its a neat and not that small of a place with a variety of tables inside and outside. Behind the counter is an open kitchen where you can see all the action.

Bottom line, best Italian take-out west of Boston. Notice I said "take-out". The place is really just too small to be considered a real "restaurant". However, the food is very real indeed. Awesome creative pasta and vegetable salads are made fresh daily with lots of healthy and tasty ingredients. The full menu w/ entree's is robust and wonderful. They have numerous ravioli, ziti and linguini dishes with seafood, chicken or veal, and the quality and portions are always consistent and downright delicious. Their pannini sandwiches are also excellent. I'm lucky as I live about 2 miles away, so this is a popular Friday night take out for us. If you do plan on dining, I would recommend lunch during the spring/summer, as you'll have less of a crowd with a chance at an indoor table. The limited outside seating is like sitting on the edge of a parking lot, which is what you are doing. This is a small very popular local dining/take-out spot, so be prepared for tight parking and a good size mob at the door for dinner. It's worth it though, as Filho's Cucina is all about the FOOD. Mangia bene! 5 stars *****

Feb-2010 Update - The tomato & cucumber salad has morphed over the last year or so into cucumber & tomato salad. It's still very good, but the seasoning seems to vary from visit to visit. As a result it's probably a 4 star salad these days. Otherwise, Filho's remains a great Groton experience. Feb-2009 Original - Filho's food is excellent. As others have said, Filho's would be famous if it was in Boston. The tomato & cucumber salad is the best I've ever had, and must be tried if you enjoy this dish. If you arrive around the dinner rush be prepared to wait a bit for takeout or a table. It's well worth the wait.

Filho's is one of the best Italian places around, it is well worth the trip out to Groton. We luckily live right down the street so it is a once a week ritual and we have yet to be disappointed in the years we have gone here. The ingredients are fresh and well prepared. I have the Pollo Parmesan 9 time out of 10 but they do have daily specials that can really rock your world. All the dishes are reasonably priced. The food is awesome but the wait can be a hassle. It can get crazy busy and at certain times you have to stand with about 20 people in line. We usually get take away, we only eat at a table during the week, weekends forget about it. On the whole though, two thumbs up.

I've always been a fan of this place, though mostly because it is the only really good place for food in Groton. Their paninis are pretty good, especially the Lindsay's Grilled Chicken and the mozz/tomato with basil pesto on baquette is good too. My fave thing they have is a salad behind the counter that isnt always available, with mozzarella balls, gnocchi, grape tomatoes and basil tossed in olive oil. It is amazing. The bread is delicious, and they have great oil, Parmesan and red pepper on the counter you can mix for a dip. Their tiramisu is also really good. Their pasta dishes are all okay, but I've definitely had better. The sauces are always a little watery and not extremely flavorful. And everything is very expensive. But if you are in Groton and want a quick delicious meal, it's a great option. Only a few tables inside (though BYOB, and you can buy wine at the Groton Market that is attached), and a few cute tables outside during nice weather (though you are basically in the parking lot at that point), so we prefer the call ahead and take home option when we dont feel like cooking.

We though we would be beating the rush at 5:00 on a Saturday evening......we were wrong. We went for an early dinner, and were suprised to see the place packed to the gills with a bustling crowd clammering for the next open table, take-out etc.... I will get the negatives out of the way first..... This was the first time we dined here, and for the first timer that doesnt know the "system" it can be a little confusing. You order first at the counter, then if there is no table available they wait until a table is ready for you until they put in the order... also, when you are waiting for your table, it seems as if you cant find any 12inch by 12 inch piece of real estate where your not in the way of someone..... I couldn't get over how busy this place was....tons and tons of take out. Once a table opened for us we were seated and our food arrived very fast ( a veal saltimbocca for me, and a soup and spinach salad for her. The saltimbocca was good.., but not the best i have ever had....the veal could have been more tender, and the sauce was slightly oily... I will say that all the produce used was extremely fresh and the portion sizes were enough to satisfy... The prices were more than reasonable....if there were portions of stars to give..i would probably give filhos 3.75 stars, but because this was my first visit, and i have never heard anything bad about this place, i am giving it the benifit of the doubt.....I will be back....

We found this little place in Groton last night after searching through my GPS points of interest - What a find! We called it in & waited at the grocery store across the street - it is very tough to get parking, especially on a Friday night. I was glad we were not waiting for a table - but we will go back to eat there - it looks like a great atmosphere with bring your own wine. The food was fantastic and was still hot when we got home to Lunenburg. The antipasto was delicious - the marinated tuna on top was great, as well as all of the other fun toppings. My chicken marsala had a great flavor to it, and the garlic bread was yummy when dipped in the sauce. My husband had the steak special - strip steak with shrimp & sea scallops, mashed potato and asparagus. He enjoyed it, but wasn't crazy about the sauce on top. We will definitely return!

We use to go to Filoh's a lot, but sort of forgot about it...rediscovered it last night and the food is still fantastic! I love the "order from the counter" concept. That's the only real difference between this place and a full service restaurant. After grabbing some silverware, napkins and glasses for your beverage (BYOB..great beer and wine next door) they bring some bread and your meal is not far behind. The garlic bread with cheese is really good and every salad we've tried has been excellent. The Pollo Verona is amazing!! Even though there are some dishes I like better than others, everything we have sampled has been really good. Filoh's can't take the place of a full service restaurant, but when your in the mood for doing a few things yourself you can't go wrong. Wish they had a few more tables coz you usually have to wait.

We love this place! We stop every time we drive through on our way to visit friends in New Hampshire...and sometimes bring them takeout. Generous portions, incredibly fresh ingredients, well-seasoned food...great Italian menu. My particular favorite dish: the mushroom ravioli in a lovely creamy sauce with red peppers. But, the fantastic meatballs, beautiful salads and many other dishes make it difficult to decide what to have. We often share a salad and a main dish. It is a bit confusing the first time you go, but usually one of the people behind the counter spots you and helps you out. Just read the menu and get in line at the counter. Don't miss the specials menu on the board. It is a small place, but we usually are able to get a table.

One great place, fresh food, great prices, interesting decor and service style - semi self with some service after you order at the counter. Very very reliable quality. Super intetesting pasta dishes in an age where you think that you know everything there is to know about how to jazz upo pasta. Did I say that the salads are increadible too, fresh dressing naturally! Simply FANTASTIC desserts worth the cardiac arrest. It's a bring your own, nice touch. But BOY I wish that they had a wine and beer liscence. Buy your own somewhere other than the lovely and pretty and excellent stocked wine store next door. THEY ARE MONSTERS, I parked my car there, bought a case of wine and as I was leaving the store a woman behing the counter says aggreessively that I had better not think to leave my car there if I was going to the restaurant...I WAS thinking of doing that the car park is pretty full! What's up are they mortal enemies tehse two businesses??? Buy your wine near home, go to Fihlos and have a great time, no need to be aggressively treated by unfriendly neighbors!

This small, casual restaurant has great food. You can also walk next door to the attached wine shop and bring it over to consume with your meal. Their salads are also great. I recommend the Misto Griglia (Italian sausage, smoked provolone, grilled chicken, tomatoes, artichoke hearts, capers, with mixed greens and balsamic vinagrette). This is *not* a salad to get prior to a meal - it *is* the meal. The only problem with this place is how limited the hours are.

Excellent food! Their Chicken Piccata is to die for. We usually do the takeout because it's always so busy and crowded on weekend nights. But I have found that one entree, their cesar salad and bread are more than enough to feed two adults. The hard part is deciding on which entree.

Yummy pasta. They do takeout, which is nice, or you can sit in their small seating area and even buy wine at the attached store if you want. We've had all sorts of dishes here, like Gamberi Fra Diavlo, Pollo Piccata, and plain old Pasta Marinara. They all taste light and refreshing. Their marinara is awesome, and you can buy that by the quart if you like as well.

We were just rolling through Groton on a Saturday between errands, noticed it was 1:45 and spied this little take-out and order-and-eat-in cafe. Having lived in Acton, I don't associate this area of the state with fine cooking, so what a wonderful surprise Filho's Cucina was. I had penne tossed with broccolini, which was flat-out excellent, my partner had a turkey club on foccacia with caramelized onions that he said was among the best sandwiches he'd ever had anywhere. From the first bite, you knew that the ingredients were fresh and that someone with a sense of good food who knew what they were doing had cooked it. There was an ample supply of good Italian sparkling lemonades and other drinks, the service was warm and genuine, and the cafe itself was clean and elegantly put together. No surprise that it was bustling on a cold Saturday in January. How I wish Acton had had a place up to these standards when I lived there. Ben fatto, Filho's!

Delicious homemade Italian food. Everything is good - fresh ingredients, quality pasta. Only complaint is that I wish they were a little bit bigger so they could have table service and a liquor license. But you can grab a bottle of wine next door and if its not too crowded, get a table and have a great meal. Highly recommend.

Cool place with excellent food. Upscale bistro syle decor with busy open kitchen. Gigantic portions of pasta. Mostly take-out, but has maybe a dozen little tables. BYO wine and beer from the packie next door. Great salads. Good desserts. Huge take-out business.

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Most excellent. Fast. Affordable. Delicious.

Be aware.
(4)Nancy H.

(2)Doreen B.
(4)Carleton W.
Great food! Must try.
(5)Gregory B.

(3)Jordan M.
Thick-ish flatbread pizzeta, and delish house marinara, and good house sausage make for nice pizza lunch. Also insalada in the deli case are worth a go... Very quick to prep the take out order!
(4)Jason C.
Delicious sandwiches- especially the Lindsay's Grilled Chicken. Food is well priced, and the ingredients/bread are always fresh. Make sure to call ahead because the place definitely gets busy on weekend nights.
(5)Jaroslav S.
Mediocre food and atmosphere. I tried a shrimp ravioli dish and some noodles with beef. Both tasted subpar and, frankly, a little fake. Also, a warning: if you step outside Filhos, you will encounter a DASTARDLY stench.
(3)Marcia C.
I've followed this chef for 20 years. Now he's owned Filho's for a few years. Make a trip out here every few months. LOVE IT!! Everything we've ever tried has been fabulous. Told some friends about it, they are now hard core regulars too.
(5)Joerg H.
(2)Monica J.
(4)Amanda B.
All the way from Florida looking for amazing food and I definitely found some here. The atmosphere was very pleasant and all of the staff were more than nice! I would recommend this place to anyone! BIG thanks to the wonderful staff for a great dinner!!!
(5)Thomas N.
lunch recently.....very popular small place which does a LOT of take out....cozy inside and small, with a pretty good sized menu and specials that are updated daily (and they even keep their web page updated,,,,how rare is that????)....byob but that's easy as there is an excellent beer wine (and liquor) store attached......food was excellent, it is order and they will bring your food, service very pleasant.....great place, everything was great!!!
(4)Julie W.
Great food, great service, great price. Owners are fantastic. BYOB taken care of with the store next door. As good as it gets for italian. Our local favorite.
(5)Julia K.
Amazing! I loved the garlic bread, and the staff are wicked friendly. I really like the sandwiches, and the salads are huge! (As well as delicious). Also, they had gnocci salad, which I had never seen before. It is delicious.
(4)Dave A.
(3)Lea B.
(5)Catherine W.
(4)Patrick C.
The food is great, but it isn't cheap. A sandwich will cost you close to $9-10. There is some eat on tables, but not too many so take out is your best bet. Gets super busy.
(4)Richard C.
(4)Edmund M.
Out of town guest looking for quality food in between hockey games. Loved it. .. Good food... Good service and small town atmosphere. Recommend it highly.
(4)Mike A.
This place was phenomenal! Small little family owned Italian joint out in Groton MA. This is one of the best Italian places I have been to since Giacomo's in the north end of Boston. Their portions are more than generous, the staff was great and the atmosphere was very comfortable. We can't wait to go back!!
(5)Mike B.

(5)Jocelyn S.
Everything about this place is awesome! Even smells amazing when you drive by in the summer. The food is always great, I just have a hard time understanding the menu... :)
(4)E T.
(5)R H.
(4)Shanley S.
(2)Mad C.
(3)Stephen E.
Lindsey's grilled chicken sandwich. Five star sandwich!! Tortolini brocholini!!! Penne con brocholini (with/without) chicken! The tiramisu!! The meatballs!!! The gnocchi!!! The best!!! Filhos is a force to be recond with in Groton!!!
(5)Meredith D.
Delicious! Yummy! Excellent!
(4)A Z.
So yeah.
(5)Ken S.
Another 30 min trip from Lowell to Groton and another outstanding meal. I just wish it was closer to my home.
(5)Jay J.
We go here a lot, the food is very good. The 1 thing I don't like is that they make me feel like a beggar when I have to ask for bread if I order four meals I expect to get a more than a quarter-loaf of bread and I really shouldn't have to ask for it.
(4)Jack M.
(5)Stephen M.
(4)Netty P.

(3)Mike D.

(4)Ross G.
This place is outstanding, got to be one of the best in the area. Amazing fresh bread, tasty pasta. The take out i've got has been amazing, a lot of places can't manage to get take out right but they do here. Keep up the great work!

(5)Rebecca H.
Enjoy!
(5)Lee D.

This restaurant is an unique experience. I love it.
(4)Scott J.
a place where you can buy alcohol next door and bring it over. This is a good experience. A fair price for really good Italian food. The service was adequate but not what one would see at a high end place. The seating is quite limited so don't go there during prime time or get food to go.
(4)Liz C.

(4)Rebecca W.
Delicious!!
(5)Amy K.
My husband and I love getting Filho's takeout. Everything we've had here is from high quality ingredients and is delicious. The chicken parm is one of my favorites and they make the best Italian sandwiches I've ever had.
(5)Laura H.
(5)Julie P.
My favorite pasta place. I travel 40 minutes for takeout here. Always get the linguini di Cucina and it is always delicious.
(4)Ivan D.
Food is consistently good, except fish and seafood which tend to be hit or miss. We love it there if you can stand the noise and e wait for a table.
(4)Martha L.
Yum. The food is good and comes out of the kitchen quickly even on a busy Saturday night. The price is very reasonable for the food quality. I ordered Gemeli Salsiccia, it's "Grilled Italian sausages sautéed in olive oil with fresh mushrooms simmered in marinara and tossed with gemeli pasta and romano cheese." The gemeli pasta tasted fresh and the sauce is delicious. Their other dishes are good, too. I'll be sure to try other things on the menu next time I go. For dessert, the tiramisu was pretty good, but a little pricey, almost $7 for a square. It does get fairly loud in the dining area..something to be aware of. If you're looking for a quiet dinner, this is not the place to go.
(4)Liz P.
(5)Mike P.
(5)Aimee G.
(4)Sandy H.
(4)Matthew A.
(5)Ted D.
Without question one of our favorite dinner spots. BYOB great prices and Italian food as good as any other. Kind of noisy and best to go after 7:15 if you want to eat in vs take out on a sat night.
(5)Chris C.
(5)Steven B.
(5)Matthias J.
(5)ad K.
Amazing italian food in unpretentious surroundings. The menu changes regularly as far as I am aware. I had the fortune of having this place recommended by a colleague while I was on a busines trip.
(5)Clarissa Lynn R.
Authentic Italian kitchen. Food is great, family type atmosphere. Ambiance is really homey.
(5)Karen C.
Starting April 4th open Mondays 11:00 - 8:00!
(5)Donmarie B.
I haven't tried a lot of different items because I don't make the opportunity to go there often, but their fresh mozzarella, tomato & basil sandwich is delish.
(4)Laura H.
(5)Josh S.
Filho's can always be relied on for great service and the best Italian food in Middlesex county. Not a lot of places have veal on the menu anymore, but Filho's veal marsala is without-a-doubt the best I've ever had. If you go here, you have to buy a canole or you are losing the game.
(5)Lawrence M.
(5)Jason P.
(5)Roger S.
(4)Christie B.
(4)John J.
My wife and I have been eating here since we moved to Groton 3 years ago. The food is very fresh and each dish has its own amazing personality. We've even gotten take-out on New Years Eve and were impressed that they could handle all the orders.
(4)J C.
Filho's... i love you!
(5)Kelley T.
(5)Suzanne G.
(4)Lauren V.
(4)Lauren C.
(5)Kelly K.
Wow, what a find. I was driving for awhile wondering what to eat when I saw this place. IT is a casual restaurant on the main road through Groton. You order at the counter. My food was outstanding...Highly recommend as the place to eat in this area!!!!
(5)Michael R.
After 3+ years of going to this establishment - Consistently excellent !!!
(5)orlando w.
(4)LabRat Z.
Absolutely love this place for takeout of high quality Italian food. It is always crazy busy, which goes to show that lots of other people have also discovered this gem. I fell in love with their Italiano sub on my first visit and never get anything else, but the rest of the family rave about other menu items.
(4)John E.
Had our first sit down meal here. Wow it was excellent. I kind of like the self serve style--no hassles and things are fast. Even the lack of a liquor license turns out to be an advantage because the connected liquor store has a better selection than most restaurants (particularly beer).
(5)Dee H.
(4)Steve B.
(5)Jason W.
(5)Mark F.
(5)Jamie G.
(4)Em G.

Worth the money. The food is delicious. Not many places to sit, but the place is nice looking. A little weird to have to buy your drinks at the liquor store attached....? Oh well.

Great food in an unpretentious package. I love the salads and sandwiches. Everything tastes fresh. Only downside is that it is small and often really busy.
