Great, attentive service, but the food was really bland.

My friends, family, & I have been going to Horizon for years. It's small store front Chinese restaurant offering fresh, delicious, made-to-order dine in or take-out. The owners are a very sweet husband & wife. They have some wonderful standard Lunch/Dinner & other combinations (includes soup, select appetizers, entree & plain or fried rice)--an excellent value. Dishes are cooked-to-order & come up quick! Love their Shrimp w/Lobster Sauce, all-white meat chicken dishes (such as Chicken & Broccoli). Egg Drop, Wonton, & Hot n Sour Soups are warm & comforting. Honestly, we've never had a bad experience for either take-out or dine in....

I spent the weekend in Gloucester a few weeks ago and wandered into this place. I was looking for something basic but was pleasantly surprised. We had the sesame shrimp, eggplant, a yakitori like chicken teriyaki, and a chicken lowmein dish. Everything was top notch for this category of restaurant, but I especially liked the shrimp dish--it had just the right level of crispiness. I'm guessing the locals consider this a go-to takeout place.

amazing food but bad service. my very tired and deliriously hungry friend paid and then wasn't sure if he paid so he paid again then realized he already paid, so they have $35 of his. It's not a bad place, just could use more genuine service instead of "yes" then rolling of their eyes. They talk about you in Chinese also, and yes I am sure.

We love this place. Food is always fresh (I'm amazed the other review said something was from a can??), the flavors are clear and not muddy, never greasy, just yum. Wish I could remember what I've ordered, but I don't think I've ever gotten anything I didn't like. Definitely best Asian food on Cape Ann and measures up to most places in Boston/Cambridge too.

This was always my favorite takeout, but after tonight, I will probably never come back. The food was awful tonight, boneless spareribs were sooooo tough. I feel like they took already cooked spareribs and recooked for our order. The moushie chicken had not even the smallest slice of chicken and no egg on top. The chicken wings have also changed, they now taste like KFC crap. Lastly, the fortune cookies were as stale as could be, they were disgusting! The only reason I gave this restaurant 2 stars was the beef and broccoli was good..... It's too bad, we have ordered here many times and I am not sure if this was a single night episode or a trend, but they have lost me as a customer. Friends have told us to try other take outs in town, but we have never listened. I feel it's now time for a change.

This is the best chinese food in Gloucester, probably on Cape Ann. I've never been disappointed with a meal there. Friendly and attentive staff. Everything I've tried on the menu has been great. I think they have the best crab rangoon and chicken wings on the North Shore. I split the Happy Family with a friend and it was plenty for both of us. Only problem is... we didn't have anything to take home! Easy parking, located right downtown in St. Peter's Square area.

Best quality Chinese food in Gloucester. Aside from not having a full liquor license I have only good things to say about every dish and experience I have had there.

This review is for TAKE-OUT only. I called in an order the day before Thanksgiving. It sounded pretty busy in the restaurant, but the woman on the phone was kind enough to talk to me for a little while, as I asked a few questions about the food. That's always nice, as I know how annoying (yet necessary) take-out orders can be. We ended up only ordering 3 or 4 things. The scallion pancakes were pretty standard. We ate them all. We also got the veggie tempura, which was not that great, but the portion was absolutely HUGE. It seemed like the veggies in it were from a frozen mixed bag. The items were completely random and small pieces... which meant a lot of batter. The tempura mushrooms were definitely from a can. I am still baffled at how huge the portion was though. I also ordered the Family Style Bean Curd, which I had NO idea what is was going to be... but it was really good. Just a spicy tofu and veggie dish. Exactly what I wanted! But the website really could use a revamping and perhaps describe what the food items actually are. Like what's Green Jade? That means nothing to me. Please explain, thank you. If you just wrote it on your website, I wouldn't have to ask and would save you some time on the phone with me. Overall, pretty good. I'm thinking of ordering the Family Style Bean Curd again tonight... or maybe broadening my horizons (see what I did there? lol) and trying out Ocean Garden.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
