This place was pretty bad, unless you are going there for beer and a Bruin's game. We had a basketball game in Rockport and since nothing seems to be open there in the winter, we headed to Gloucester on our way back to Melrose. We drove by this place and should've kept on driving but we decided to pull back in. The place was was a sports bar on one side and maybe considered "fancier" on the other. We sat on the sports bar side since we are Bruin's fans and the game was on. The waitress said all the right things but seemed to be a robot. Not bad service, just weird. I love seafood and made the mistake of thinking I should order it since we were in Gloucester, wrong move! The calamari was over-fried and had hardly any flavor. If it had some sort of aoli dipping sauce, instead of tarter sauce, perhaps that could've done something. My boyfriend ordered a burger, which was fine and I ordered the fish cakes. Admittedly, I have never had fish cakes but assumed it would be similar to crab cakes, you know, with some fish in it. I don't know what these were made of but they were over fried (or had been re-heated) breaded something. They were dry on the outside and just tasted like mushy breadcrumbs. Served on a teaspoon amount of marinara (yuck). Again, perhaps if there had been some sort of sauce, I could've eaten more than two bites. I didn't complain since I made the mistake of ordering this meal at a place that was clearly meant to serve nachos. The best part of my meal was the salad. A lot of times when we are in a different area, we just wing it when it comes to restaurants and this time we didn't fare so well. If you're forced to go here, stick to pub food and maybe you'll be okay.

Not impressed. Poor to fair service, and that's consistent. Food is sub par. I'm not sure they fully get how to run a restaurant as the hostess, who may be the owner, seems disengaged, uninviting, and unable to mulit task which would be consistent with the total experience. This restaurant would be perfect for a Bar Rescue.

Asked a local for a recc for fresh seafood that the locals like and was steered here. Whispered in my ear was the hint to order the seafood casserole. The service was split between two wait staffers. The first was harried and curt, but efficient. She presented me with a tall glass of Angry Orchard cider, and it was cold, dry and just right after a longish stroll around Gloucester to moon at the schooners. The second server appeared with the seafood casserole, which other than needing a much better name, was superb! Steaming, delicately baked and seasoned scallops, shrimp and cod fillet were lightly sprinkled with a lovely crumb topping. I chose a simple salad and enjoyed the home baked bread with olive laden rich oil. The meal was satisfying, fresh, healthy and oh-so-tasty! The second server was chatty, charming and attentive. Except for the bread, which I chose to indulge in, this was a great Paleo meal. There were many gluten-free, fresh veg and safe starch options.

We were reluctant to try this new location because we hated the old place in Main St. I'm glad we ended up giving this place a second chance. The menu was MUCH better! Much more selections and creativity! Nachos were awesomely made with pizza cheese but could have been cooked a bit longer, but huge! Everything our party ordered seemed to be good. I will definitely be back this time! And they are open a bit later than most places on the island.

On the plus, the catered brunch had some of the greasiest, saltiest sausage links I've ever spooned from a tray. Powdered eggs served their purpose. Both perfect for combatting the aftermath of 3am waterfalls. Hey college, can I have my dranking stamina back? Nevermind. Do not want. Also, the bar is haloed in flat screen plasmas airing every game of every sport imaginable. Ninety percent sure they have the Quidditch Ticket on dish. Forget conversation, friends; this is a "sit transfixed" kind of place. On the negative, they used salt instead of sugar in my pricey-for-the-location Old Fashioned. I get it's a harbor town, but Miss Piggy, leave the brine in the tide. Had to be an accident, I mean, it just had to, right? Then again, all the margarita drinkers were rocking some serious cavities, so...

Terrible food & crazy high prices ($18 for soggy pasta & tasteless, tough to chew chicken). Long wait times (20-min for a "rush order" of pasta & 1 sandwich after we found out they didn't have our original order). Plus, we were overcharged (charged for Large chowders when we got Small ones). Didn't realize till after we'd left. You've been warned. Only gave 1 extra star because the people weren't rude.

I'll mirror what some of the other reviewers said...something happened here over the past couple years. 2 years ago it was a passable if non-superlative restaurant. You'd never get an exceptional meal here, but you'd never get a terrible one either. Last Saturday I stopped in with my 4yr old son for a quick lunch before heading out of town. The first thing you notice is how dirty the place looks. It just looks tired. After sitting down, the waitress got our drink orders (milk for the little guy, iced tea for me). When she brought the drinks two things were apparent...the first was that she gave a 4yr old a glass of milk in a 32oz cup; he could have lived off of it for a week. The second was that it was half full of ice. I brought it back and asked for no-ice milk. The boy ordered penne with cheese and I got a sandwich. The sandwich was OK, but the waitress goofed the pasta order and brought linguine. No biggie, both were OK. Where it really got skeevey was when we went to the bathroom. It was "Turkish prison cell" dirty. It obviously hadn't been cleaned in days, no soap and no towels. We rinsed our hands as best we could got out as quickly as possible. You are warned.

So sad. I don't know what happened to this place. It was good 2 years ago. Last time we ate here my Wife and I were very disappointed. After 6+ months, we decided to give it another try. We arrived to a very unwelcoming hostess. My Wife said hi and she rolled her eyes and went ughh like we were her new burden. The bar was full but most of the tables empty. After being ignored for 15 minutes she finally came over and we had to listen to her bitch about being the only one working. I ordered Steak tips and wife ordered lemon shrimp pasta. The bread came and it had someone's used butter packet in it. It wasn't the usual fresh bread with olive tepenade. Just lazy rolls. The lemon shrimp pasta we paid $20 arrived and it was done half assed as well. No lemon, no artichoke hearts. We sent it back and they fixed it. My Steak tips were okay. This places only saving grace is that tourist season is coming and they'll have a new batch of unknowing patrons. They would not last much longer otherwise.

Sat at the bar to eat around 1:00 pm on a Sat afternoon. Restaurant was pretty empty .The bartender had the personality of a block of wood. Walked around stone faced and very unperson-able. I think her name was Tina. She was more talkative to the few regulars there though even playing Keno with them. The stuffed clams I was served had the consistency of pudding after I broke the top crust. Disgusting. The other food served was described as unremarkable at best. If you look around the restaurant it clearly has an identity crisis.Seemed more to me like a sports bar for locals than what their name suggests. Do yourself a favor and pass on here. There are too many outstanding places around Gloucester. Leave this "watering hole" to the locals.

On the plus side, the servers were very nice. Secondarily there's a lot of space and we had two small children. I would say this place is child friendly. That's the end of the positives. A place called espressos should have espresso. Alas, no espresso here. Subpar coffee. Decent sandwiches.

Unremarkable catering service quality food and fair service at best. Was there on a quiet mid-week night. Ordered the veal picatta which was nothing special if a bit chewy; dining companion had the blackened salmon which was dry and generally unappetizing. The fact we were ravenous allowed us some appreciation of the meal but clearly this is not a fine dining experience and unfortunately is just a notch above cafeteria food. I have had far better food in a good NY-style Greek diner and make better at home. Salads were just salads; small and super cold from the walk-in with dressing in a plastic cuplette. BTW - A nice stainless cuplette really classes up the joint even when it's SYSCO food service dressing. Ooey gooey! I saw a pizza go by and it made me think a return visit is in the offing since finding good 'pie' in Gloucester is impossible. However - I would strongly suggest that anyone who owns/runs/cooks at an "Italian" restaurant go to Flatbread Co. in Amesbury (or wherever) and order the salad but also keenly note the service. Its how its done and Espresso is amateur and will remain so if they don't clue in: It does not take much more effort to make a mediocre experience a good experience but it does take effort and forethought. So disappointing after a good start with nicely spiced oil and bread.

I'm running counter to the tide of negativity for this place I read in other reviews, but my wife and I had a quick lunch here on a Friday, and had no real problems with the food or the service. Sure, it wasn't fine dining, but look at the place, how could you possibly expect it. We had draft Sam Adams, my wife had steamers, I had a cup of Portuguese kale soup and the house wrap, which was eggplant, roasted peppers and pesto. The steamers were fresh and a good portion, the soup was fine and the wrap was OK, nothing special. The steamers came with a large slab of very tasty warm Italian bread and an herbed dipping oil which was delish. I wouldn't go so far as to say that we were bowled over by the experience, but I'd go back and try some other lunch choices. Unpretentious place, unpretentious food, friendly folks.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
