I love pubs & this one had a great Irish feel (You get wooden nickels if you order the beer) Food was ok..we had calamari & spinach & artichoke dip that I enjoyed..wasn't impressed by the lobster Mac n cheese but our waitress and the environment made up for the 'ok' food... Oh & the desserts are big...so if nothing else grab a beer & some sweets

Bad Newes. The 4-star reviews lured us in with high hopes, but I won't eat here ever again. Had the lobster bisque "special" and a pint of beer, and planned to get a sandwich, but the soup and beer were both so bad we left without subjecting ourselves to more. The bisque was anything but "special" - it seemed to be straight from a can with no garnishes and barely any lobster meat. This was actually a blessing, though, given that what little lobster meat there was tasted a bit 'off' and left me feeling nauseous for several hours after eating it. The glass the beer came in smelled like dirty dishwater. The combo was a show-stopper. With such great, fresh seafood, and lobster in particular, readily available for MV restaurants to work with, I expected more. The funky-smelling glassware was just plain gross and unacceptable. If you're looking for a quality meal or even just decent pub-grub, I'd steer clear of here.

Best BBQ pulled pork sandwich I have ever had! End of story. No questions asked. The service was very friendly and courteous and the food was amazing. I would make a trip back to the Vineyard just to eat here again.
(5)Michael F.
Surprisingly good food - lobster roll and salmon pasta special. Good service and friendly atmosphere. Not the cleanest place.
(4)Paul W.
Worst experience on the Vineyard. Service is inattentive. The wait for our food was interminable. No one came by to offer us a refill on our drinks or water after an hour of sitting. Efforts to flag down our server were almost always fruitless. After 90 minutes, we paid and left without ever getting our entrees.
(1)Jennifer G.
I was confused at first. When I walked in, I didn't know where to go. They don't make it clear that during off peak hours, you can seat yourself. I sat at the bar. I had the pulled pork sandwich and coleslaw. Pretty darn good. I would recommend.
(4)Kate L.
Not my personal scene but nice to sit outside and people watch. GREAT PLACE FOR AFTER FIREWORKS on the 4th. TONS of people watching and tables available! Good house chardonnay and clean bathroom too! Not that those should be one thought...
(3)Megan M.
Highly recommend this place! Great beer selection and great food. Our group shared the nachos and they were amazing. Crab cakes were some of the best we've had. Calamari was also yummy!
(5)Kiki M.
Good pub food, great service. Clam chowder was good. Ordered the lobster roll, crabcakes, fries and onion rings. They were good. Portion sizes for seafood could've been a bit more generous. Ample portions of french fries and onion rings. Tried the flight of beers for $13.50, not really a good value. Tastef the Pale alesWasn't impressed, tasted lunda watery. The Harpoon Beer waa tasty. I'd stick with the bottled Heineken. Cool hangout place, it has been there since 1783. I would definitely return.
(4)Kathy M.
As good as it gets!....service spot on, drinks amazing...food...OK...to die for! Bag of rings...sandwiches...you name it ...they score on it...only reason I rate it 4 instead if 5...the entrance door allows a great deal of cold are in...they have curtains during off season...but cold old still chills my little tootsies!...I love The Newes...
(4)Rebecca S.
I love old pubs and this one didn't disappoint. Casual food, with quirky traditions (why did we get wooden nickles w our beers?) We got the lobster roll and the veggie burger, both were very good. Giant tall beers (I coulda used more blueberries floating in my blueberry beer, i pre-yelped and was very excited about this idea). And as we were staying right there at the Kelly House, couldn't have been a better location.
(4)JasparLamar C.
Great service in this cavernous pub located in the famed Kelley House. You cannot beat the location. The food is only so-so though. Far too heavy on the starches with mashed potatoes suffocating the small piece of fried chicken.
(3)Ellen D.
Been going here for 17 years, while I have always enjoyed it, recently the food has been better than ever. Can't wait for my next visit!
(5)Kara G.
Finally somewhere you can let that popped collar relax a little in downtown Edgartown (maybe throw it to a half-pop- it's still Edgartown). Solid pub with a nice vibe offering better than average bar food and a bunch of delicious local beers on tap. They play off the colonial theme with plenty of dark wood beams and menus fashioned after 17th century newspapers, complete with old timey script. I've been here with larger groups and as a twosome, and never had to wait a terribly long time for a table. The food has always been a pleasant surprise- I particularly like their sandwich options which never seem to disappoint but found the entrees to be solid as well (they have legit Bangers'n'Mash). We recently went in and sat at one of the two bars to split an order of their fish'n'chips. The fish was outstanding- flaky with a great fry and tangy tartar sauce on the side. While we were there I sampled some of their draft beer options-- they have their two house brews Good Newes & Good Newes Light, a porter and an IPA from Berkshire Brewing Co., Otter Creek, Seadog Blueberry & MV's own Offshore Nut Brown Ale to name just a few. This trip was the first time I learned about their 'Declaration of Superiority' Wall. For every beer you get, they'll give you a wooden knickel (check it out: yelp.com/biz_photos/EFRc… ). Once you hit 500 you make it on their 'Declaration of Superiority' scroll and get your own engraved mug. How did I find out about this so late? Oh well, it's only more incentive to return. 2 down, 498 to go.

Stopped for lunch after a bike ride from Oak Bluffs. Great food, relaxing restaurant and good beer. We shared the grilled cheese and nachos which were both delicious. Rooster was working the bar and was very friendly. Can't wait to go back!
(5)Beth H.
Went here over labor day weekend with a few friends. we only had to wait 15 minutes which was great and all of the staff was super friendly! To drink I had Eli's evil cousin (root beer vanilla vodka). It was good but a little strong for my liking -- all of our drinks were pretty heavy on the alcohol, which, on the one hand is nice, but if I wanted straight vodka I would've asked for a shot. I had the fish and chips which was GREAT! Portions were large and the cole slaw was slammin'--it was drier than normal but in a good way. Still lots of flavor. My friends had the jumbo crab cakes and the lobster roll. Everyone agreed that we would definitely come back again!
(4)Tim M.
This place is great. A colonial style pub in a beautiful location. Beer selection is great. Bartenders are friendly. As for the food, it is killer. Had the French onion soup... awesome. Wife had the fish and chips... equally awesome! We liked it so much we ate here two nights in a row. The bag of fries and onion rings are no joke. Only drawback was the wings, they were basic, with just a no frills hot sauce. Get here early as the wait times can be long. Thank you for the great food Newes!
(5)Lila C.
Overpriced beer- don't bother getting the News Lager- tastes like bud light, if you like $5.75 bud light then go for it. The calamari was well cooked but severely under seasoned. The Ruben was actually pretty good but the fries tastes stale. Just skip it
(2)John I.
Great food and outstanding beer samples. Biggest pours I've seen for beer samples! Apps were delicious!
(4)Scott L.
This is a great pub with a a great beer selection, excellent chowder, and very friendly service. We loved it.
(4)Allison B.
We were timid that the new ownership would negatively impact the restaurant. Fear no more, The News was as good as ever! Friendly, efficient service and food hit the spot! Can wait to go back!
(5)Thomas M.
Good local pub, nothing fancy. Super casual and building has a lot of character. Probably been there forever. We went here before a dinner reservation and sat at the smallish bar, great place to spark up a conversation with the bartender or other tourists.
(3)Blythe B.
excellent. food was amazing, even the day after leftovers we took home! And the prices cannot be beat! Decor was lovely, albeit the room was a bit dark. Waiters and waitresses were very attentive and kind. all the locals recommend this place, and I can see why!!Would definitely come back again!
(5)Ky P.
Great little spot! Pleasant atmosphere, shaded outside seating, good menu selection and tasty food. All that for not a crazy price tag. Definitely had a pleasant visit and will stop by once in town again.
(5)Laura H.
Came with a big group and the food was very good. Outside seating it's better than inside.
(5)Lisa H.
Fish and chips and steak and cheese sandwich were delicious. Burger was overcooked. Onion rings were nothing special. Great outdoor seating, inside is a bit dark for me, but I loved sitting outside. We ordered a flight of beer, and enjoyed it very much. I loved the light Newes lager mixed with Rose's like juice (the "Light and Lime," I believe it was called.) Server was friendly and proceeds advice when we asked for help deciding what to order.
(4)Meg M.
nice break from the fancy edgartown scene. very casual and the food is great. small and busy, but wait staff is attentive and on top of it. start with the calamari (with fried jalapenos - yum) and 3-cheese french onion soup. pulled pork sandwich, buttermilk fried chicken and guinness marinated steak tips were great for dinner. i'd head to mad martha's before ordering dessert here, other than the chocolate cake.
(4)Rachel S.
Great, casual spot. Best drink prices we've found on the Vineyard. Note, I said the Vineyard. Service was great
(4)Hilary H.
I was so disappointed in the food at The News. This once wonderful pub still has great ambience, a helpful, friendly staff, prime location and a menu that sounds delicious, however... The food is just not good. Three of us went in for lunch on Sunday, and non of us were impressed with our sandwiches. We ordered a Reuben, a pulled pork and a Thanksgiving sandwich, and all were just lackluster - like the idea was there, but the execution wasn't. The sauerkraut on the Reuben was just greasy, griddled cabbage, the pulled pork was runny and tasteless, and the turkey on the Thanksgiving sandwich was dry and a touch gamey, without a dollop of mayo to help it along. That said, the service was tops - we were immediately greeted by a super-friendly manager, seated in a great spot and our server was cheerful and quick. I can see this being an excellent spot for beers and conversation, but unfortunately the food misses, which is key for me.
(2)K.M R.
Great place, delicious food & amazing wait staff. We went for a special occasion & will be back as much as we can.
(5)Harry Z.
I really wanted to give this place four stars, but the food was just alright. By that I specifically mean the burger - nothing hugely special. The reasons this place gets a positive review are: 1 It's on the Vineyard - a plus already 2 Good divey atmosphere 3 Blueberries in the beer... That's right, you heard me. They put fresh blueberries in the beer there. when I ordered a draft from Maine or someplace like that, the bartender asked me if I wanted blueberries in my beer. I kind of looked at him and asked are you kidding me? He said no, so I replied, hey, whatever you do here, I'm new. So he put about a dozen blueberries in there which floated around inside and when I tried it I was a convert. Blueberries in your beer while on the Island, it's a good thing...
(3)Lauren G.
Finally came here for the first time for lunch on a rainy day. We sat at the bar which smelled a little musty but wasn't a huge problem. The bartender was attentive and friendly and served us quickly despite it being busy. I had the chowder which was very good - bacon on top was a nice touch. My boyfriend had the chicken sandwich which was amazing.
(4)Melissa M.
I could have very easily stayed here all day. It's that cute and cozy inside. I came to the island this past weekend just for a day trip. (If you've never been to the islands in the early winter, I recommend taking a trip. It's a totally different vibe and it's great just being around the locals). We came here for lunch. The location is right in the heart of Edgartown. When you first walk in, there is a bar area on the right and on the left is a small, EXTREMELY cozy dining area. The dining area also has a small bar in the back against the wall. There is a fireplace and a very pretty decorated Christmas tree. The decor is that of an old irish/english pub with exposed brick. There was a flat screen tv on above us with college football on. The volume is turned down and the music played in the restaurant was mostly of the indie rock genre, which in my opinion, is very cool. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with fries and a glass of wine. The sandwich and fries were really really good. The chicken had a nice chipotle aioli on it. They didn't have much for wine, just a few choices that you can find in the supermarket. But it was fine since I never expect amazing wine to be served at a pub. Shame on me for not wanting beer. My gentleman friend had the pub burger and side greens and thought it was delicious. Our server was friendly and efficient. If you are visiting Martha's Vineyard, I highly recommend having a meal at Newes. The atmosphere is friendly and comfortable and the food is upscale pub fare.
(4)Jenna A.
Horrible...bar smells like sewage and the bathrooms...DO NOT go in there, the smell is enough to make you hurl. Also...bartender said and I quote "We have the B cooks on today". So maybe don't eat there...we didn't.
(1)Jim V.
My wife and I ate lunch here after a recommendation from a local. We were not disappointed. We each had a cup of bean soup and split the chicken pot pie special. Add a glass of newes local beer and we were stuffed, but on a very satisfied way. The service was fast and friendly. If you are anywhere near here don't miss it.
(4)Jennifer S.
Lobster Mac N' Cheese. Buy it. Get it. Don't think about it. Thank me later. Amazeballs.
(5)Leah W.
The Newes manages to balance on a knife edge between gimmicky tourist spot and local institution. They can get away with the cheese of a menu styled as a newspaper (complete with digs at Summer people) simply because they are GOOD. They have their own beers, but they aren't brewed on site, not even on Island. They are kegged for the Newes by a brewer in Providence. Nonetheless, the beers are good, and $12 will get you a flight of any five of the beers they have on draft, including their own. I would highly recommend it! Our group of four got clam chowder, fish and chips (with green beans instead of fries, no problem!), a chili cheese dog, and a lobster roll. The chili cheese dog has to be seen to be believed, which is why I added a picture for my fellow Yelpers. Not one bite of food was leftover. I would recommend against the light with lime, as along with the lime they add sweetener to the beer. It is just not a good thing. This was remedied by our waitress, who was friendly and accommodating, without an issue. If you are strolling through Edgartown and find your stomach grumbling, head to the Newes for a relaxing respite. Check out what else they have to offer for food and beers. kelley-house.com/newes.p…

If you knicked the walls of Newes with a knife, I'm pretty sure they would literally bleed New England. This place is a nice little respite from the white walls, shining floors, and popped collars of many other Edgartown joints. It's tucked into the basement level of the building, which helps keep it blessedly cool during the summer, and the place is adorned with old-fashioned wall lanterns, 17th century newspapers, and dark exposed wood beams (you know, between the giant flatscreens showing sporting events du jour). It's also a place where you could just as easily see a group of 20somethings watching a game or a family with young kids taking a break, and the staff are friendly without being overbearing. Overall, it's a nice and laid-back, approachable vibe. The food is pretty straightforward, tasty pub grub (try the artichoke dip... it's served cold and creamy and comes with a heaping stack of fresh, hot pita bread), and there are a ton of local brews on tap. The prices here are in the lower middle end of the pack for the area, which is especially nice considering the quality of the atmosphere and food offerings.
(4)Keith K.
this place is awesome!!! keep your eyes out, or you'll walk right by. get the fish & chips, best on the island!
(5)George C.
had dinner on Sunday night, good food great service. A tad casual and cheap for MV, but definitely served it's purpose. We had the burger, chix sandwich and pulled pork sandwich. All were good and served as requested. Not the best food in the world, but great for the price and area.
(4)Courtney R.
Neat atmosphere, inventive menu, cool themes. Mediocre service and the food was ok. Will eat here again next visit to the vineyard.
(3)Megan E.
Great beer selection, great atmosphere in the bar.
(4)Kate C.
I am a frequent visitor of Edgartown, and an even more frequent visitor of the Newes. This is by far my favorite restaurant on the island. Though it is a casual place, I love to put on my fanciest dress and come here. Anything you get on the menu will be delicious. Whenever I go, our group will get a few apps and meals to split. The crab, artichoke and spinach dip with toasted pitas is delectable, the lobster mac and cheese is INSANE, the chowder is some of the best, burgers are good, anything else you see on that menu is GREAT. My favorite part of this restaurant has to be the atmosphere and location, tied with the rack of beers. You get to sample (well, more than sample) some excellent beers with amazing flavor, that will certainly get you more than tipsy. The lime and light is one of my favorites -- has a great taste that is not too limey like some of those other lime beers. For every rack or large beer you get, you receive 2 wooden nickels. When you get to 500, you receive your own mug with your name engraved on it. 1000 nickels gets your own personal stool at the bar with your name on it for that year. Pretty cool. I came here once and a two man jazz band was playing. Very intimate and lovely. Just the best place ever -- couldn't ask for anything more -- except when they run out of wooden nickels... Come here. You will fall in love, and will always be coming back -- just like me :) PS -- I have 40 nickels. Anyone who doesn't want theirs, PLEASE send my way!
(5)Ron W.
Don't get the appeal here. I suppose it's a less expensive option in Edgartown, but it's not terribly good. Started off on wrong foot with hostess, would had odd energy. Seemed overwhelmed and was not communicative. Finally got her to tell us the wait would be 30 mins. It's very casual, which is no big deal in my book, but know that you are basically getting a tavern like setting. Waitress was pleasant, but recommended the Roquefort stilettos, which were crostini over-piled with blue cheese and bacon. These were basically inedible. And given this was an app, really left a gross cloud over the rest of the meal. The blue crab cakes were probably the best dish, but again...a bit heavy on the sauce. The BBQ pulled pork was fine, as was the fish and chips (anywhere from "serviceable" to a shade greasy). All in all, not for us. Absolutely not a 4 star spot
(2)Dorothy W.
The Newes is a very family friendly, low key place that Edgartown really needs. It is open year round and features a familiar array of items on their menu at decent prices for downtown Edgartown. You walk in and veer off to your left in order to enter a dark and cozy little pub-like atmosphere. There are assorted tables all throughout and a few seats at the bar. Two wide screen TVs in the corners feature sports, which is great luck if you are a Red Sox fan. They have lots of delicious beer on tap, decent food and a very friendly staff. We are underwhelmed by their curry fries which come with a drab, watery curry sauce. Roquefort stilettos, French bread toasted up with Roquefort and bacon, is a traditional family favorite. They offer decent wings, burgers, meat loaf, sandwiches and salads. It's not gourmet, but in some ways that is a very welcome experience when you are in Edgartown with your family. Who needs overpriced rum drinks and martinis, aloof servers who ignore you and a main course that zaps $35 out of your wallet faster than you can say "Jaws"? No reservations here at The Newes, so get there or early or wait a while during the summer. Off season- it's a welcome sight indeed when the snow is falling, the ice is on the ground, and summer is a very distant memory.
(3)Sharon H.
One of the best! When you want honest, simple, good pub fare- great classic selections. Roast beef au jus makes an awesome comeback after many years off of the menu!! The corned beef rueben on marble rye is fantastic, and oh my stars- the onion rings-- yum!
(5)Lisa S.
Great food at a very good value. We had the fish and chips and beef ribs. Both were perfectly cooked. The service was so slow. They only had 1 waitress for our side of the restaurant who was trying to handle the bar and the tables. She was very kind and we had excellent service once she got to us. I felt very bad that management had her running around alone in such a packed restaurant. I'd suggest going later after 8pm when the place emptied out.
(4)P F.
Great pub food and had to add a star for the beer flights!
(4)Mario M.
Our English friend that went with us said they were top of the list for fish and chips in America in all his 20 years in country. The bangers and mash truly hit the spot and the rest of our group was very pleased with their food as well. One of our group ordered the lobster mac and cheese which was one of the best we ever had. Beers were a great local selection and they have a large size and pint. One of the troupe had the blueberry beer which they add blueberries to when serving which was very tasty. The service was great and we sat in the bar to be served by the bartender who was friendly and personable. Did not wait long, and the food, drinks and service were great and reasonable priced. Will go back again if we have time either for food and drinks or just drinks. Small bar and small dining area, but great pub feel to hang out with your friends.
(4)Aaron C.
This was a pretty good, pretty inexpensive place. Great for lunch.
(4)Liz B.
I have been coming here for almost 20 years and I am shocked at how the quality has gone downhill. The calamari was more peppers than squid (and had a huge piece of breaded plastic which I pulled out of my mouth - the waitress took it off our bill, but wasn't overly concerned about it.). The burger my husband had was the size of a mini slider, and my lobster mac and cheese was the size of a kiddie portion. We asked for bread and were told we could have some but had to PAY for it!!! In the old days they used to bring you little warm loaves of bread with butter when you ordered! I am so sad that The Newes has deteriorated so badly. It used to be such a fun place with wonderful pub food.
(2)Ken S.
My wife loves The Newes, I like it. The chowder is really good as are the fish and chips. Some of the other menu selections can be so-so (especially the sandwiches). The atmosphere is old-time English pub. It's on Martha's Vineyard so don't expect an inexpensive meal. All-in-all it's a nice place, just make sure to stay with what you would think would be good there.
(4)Lisa M.
Mmmm.... better than pub food, I'd say. The lobster mac and cheese was truly a worthy indulgence - which says a lot, since it must have been an entire day's worth of calories. At first, I though the portion looked too small. But as I type this about 3.5 hours later, I'm still full enough to be very glad it wasn't a bite more than it was. My mom had the cheeseburger. It was very good. I'm not going to agree with reviews that say it was the best ever; I have to reserve that for burgers that have snazzy tangy creative toppings. But for just a standard, classic cheeseburger it was moist but not too greasy - very good. My mom thought the cole slaw was too plain. I actually liked it - understated. I'd give 5 stars but the dessert selection didn't seem to die for, and again, I'd need fancier toppings on the cheeseburger. Or at least some pickle slices that fit on the burger.
(4)Dina V.
Kicked off our weekend on the Vineyard at Newes and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Partly bc we were on the vineyard with great friends but also bc the food and beers! I ordered the fish and chips. It was delish! My husband ordered a pasta dish special that had chorico... I had a bite and it was great! They had a decent selection of beers from brewerys in the area. I saw some from Providence, RI and was excited and asked the server if she knew which brewery and she had no clue. I mean, I didn't expect her to know but since that's really all they offer and from the fact that she knew someone's order at our table before they ordered (he's a regular), it showed she's been there for quite some time so she probably should know not only the food menu, but also the beer menu. I tried the Lime & Light and it was very refreshing. I wanted to try and go back before the end of our trip for another but never had the chance. So if you go, don't ask what brewery a specific beer is from and try the Lime & Light! Oh and a cool thing about this bar... every 16oz beer you order, you get a token... every scooner (23oz) you get two tokens... save like a thousand or something crazy like that and you get your name printed on their hall of fame... I think it was called declaration or something... but it was pretty cool. My friend and her father are on there.
(4)Ann T.
Nice pub with good atmosphere very friendly staff. We had a few pints there but no food, so I cannot comment on the food.
(4)A S.
Really terrific menu and the host was very accomodating and welcoming, especially since we had a toddler with us. The food was excellent and the atmosphere is a lot of fun and very in keeping with the period. This is one of our favorite destinations in Edgartown.
(5)Kevin D.
Lobster Mac and cheese was great. Huge chunks of lobster w bacon, breadcrumbs, and cheese. Only improvement would be if it was a bit creamier. Garlic green beans were great too. Looking forward to going back before we leave the island. Also clam chowder was incredible. Tried it at the chowder competition. Amazing!! Creamy w a great flavor. Think their was bacon in there which gave it almost a smokey flavor. Awesome.

I am updating my experience from the last visit. The same waitress, once friendly before, with a careless approach, this time. The food portion is being ridiculously smaller. and, not impressive. Greed is their new ingredient! Although they have more people there than my last visits, in this winter time, I find that the food portion is reduced-big time. It is a cheat! Kid burgers for grown ups for $14?. And, without asking the option of salads or chips, they filled the filthy, sticky serving basket with 3/4 of chips, and 1/4 burger-that is the kid's size. I can never FORGIVE THEM for forcing me to eat more chips than the burger. I felt embarrassed that this is how I was treated; the burger was consumed in the first 2 minutes slowing chowed down. I see the people next to our table also refused to finish the meal and complained to the waitress when checking out- They had calamari and salads. Then, the waitress's response was "I wish you told me earlier" Well, lady, where were you all that time, not attending us? I know it is one of the few places open during the winter season but if this bad service continues, it is going to hurt their name out there.
(2)Clai M.
Great simple pub food. My kids loved the root beer on tap. $5 extra for pasta with the mussels?? How are you supposed to enjoy the good broth? My kids we dipping French fries in Mom's bowl and there are no rolls that come with it. Burger came out well done vs. medium rare. They offered to redo it an ended up comping it. Very nice staff. We would go again.
(4)Kealan C.
So you're walking around "downtown" Edgartown when suddenly CRIPES! You realize you're wearing your whale-stitched SHORTS tonight and not your whale-stitched sundress! OMG! Where can you go that isn't too fancy but also not, you know, a place where people who can't afford whale-stitched attire are forced to eat? Newes From America! The Newes is your typical pub with an, of course, New England slant: decent local beers and items like clam chowder, lobster rolls, fish & chips, etc. None of the offerings are close to being the best I've ever had, but it's a good, solid choice for a casual, well-priced meal in the location.
(3)Gee M.
We were searching for a place that was open in the off season. Could not have been happier with our meal by the fireplace. Reubens and burgers, and local beers. Service was friendly and attentive. Not sure where the snarky comments are coming from. I can see how the service might get TOO relaxed for some people, but our experience was great. The portions were fine, and I always have an appetite. the coconut shrimp, better than I expected.
(4)Soy L.
Mediocre tasting food and somewhat pricey at that given the portion sizes is offset by decent music, a nice setting, and proximity to the Harbor View Hotel.
(2)C J.
Terribly overpriced and under-seasoned food. I didn't even eat my Mahi Mahi sandwich with avocado salsa...it's a shame when the coleslaw is the tastiest part of the meal. My boyfriend's chicken sandwich was more edible but it was completely unmemorable. The only thing that WAS memorable was paying $3.75 for a draft root beer that was actually a mug of ice cubes and about 2-3 sips of (albeit yummy) soda. Find another spot.

Cool British-style pub in the old whaling village of Edgartown (don't get your hopes up--unfortunately there is no actual whale on the menu), housed in a building that is older than America itself (1742!). I am a complete history dork so this was right up my alley, and the stonework walls and exposed wooden ceiling beams (original, I was told) give the Newes an authentic pub feel. The fact that Edgartown is not one of the Vineyard's several dry towns also helps, as the serving of beer is pretty crucial to the "authentic pub feel". To that end we started with a round of nutbrown ales from the Offshore Ale Co., brewed right there on the island. Delicious. I got my Molly Malone on and had the cockles & mussels for dinner. When I ordered the waitress asked if I wanted a side of bread to soak up the broth in which the shellfish is served. I agreed, somewhat dismissively, because how good could a bowl of clam juice be that I'm going to need my own side of bread ( youtube.com/watch?v=SP_9… )? I'll be damned if I didn't nearly bite the hand off that selfsame waitress for trying to clear my plate before I had sopped up every last drop of that sweet, sweet broth. Really outstanding. The lady had the lobster mac n' cheese (with BACON) that was phenomenal but so intensely rich that we couldn't even finish off the entire order between 4 people. Auntie had a reuben that looked fairly amazing. I didn't even notice what Uncle had because the big bastard polished off his plate in about 8 seconds, and then started sniffing around the lobster mac. Most items on Martha's Vineyard are outlandishly expensive, even by my warped San Francisco standards, but the Newes is one of the more reasonably priced places to grab a bite, certainly in that area. We were attempting to treat the Aunt & Unc to dinner as a thank-you for letting us stay with them on our vacation, but my aunt slyly palmed her credit card and thrust it on the waitress before I could even get my hands on the bill, the sneaky, generous jerk.

Good sandwiches, decent salads, and a small but well-chosen draft beer list make Newes from America a nice place for a break and casual meal and drink. The onion rings and curry fries are great! Its central location near Edgartown Harbor make it an easy stop during a day of shopping or after the beach.

Nice place, relaxed but I was saddened by my bangers & mash:(
(3)Matthew M.
This is a pretty solid little pub which, while not cheap, is certainly pretty reasonable by Edgartown standards. We stopped here a couple nights in a row on our honeymoon, and always enjoyed the food and a few beers.

My husband and I make it a point to have a meal here every summer after I fell in love with the lobster mac n cheese. This year I was shocked to find out that this dish was removed from the menu! Following my minor panic attack, I decided to go for the clam chowder and my husband chose the fish and chips. Both dishes were very good but, please bring back the lobster mac n cheese!!!

Good pub food - good chowder. Quick meal and with kids it's easy.

I've visited MV 9 of the last ten years, and the newes is my favorite stop. In researching my family genealogy, I found out that my ancestors lived on the vineyard. In 1742, Lemuel Kelley's father in law was the proprietor of the Kelley House, at that time a tavern which is now The Newes Pub. Upon visiting This old style pub, I discovered the BEST cheeseburger I've ever had. Is it The 200+ year old grill? Is it my imagination? is it the great service? I don't Know. Whenever I visit a new place I try the burger. My theory is, If you screw up a burger, then..... . Really, They cook it the way that i like, The roll is fresh baked, and just greasy enough. (the roll is important in any burger). The menu has changed over the years, and a couple of favorites have gone away. (my wife and i spoke to the chef and asked to maybe bring some old favorites back) (the chef seemed very interested in ours and other patrons opinions, always trying to get better) I visit 4-5 times in a weeks stay. With 2-3 of those visits for cheeseburgers, I still have the opportunity to try other things. Portions are great also. Lemuel and his wife Bathsheba would be proud!

My sister in law, husband, and I were looking for a place in Edgartown on Christmas Eve for a quick drink and snack. Fortunately, this place was open and had a roaring fire. Newes from America had a wide selection of beers and some inexpensive small bites ($3 - $4) consisting of cheddar/ale bread, meat pies, and loaded potatoes. I'd recommend this place as a cozy pub to have a beer (or cocktail - they have a full bar) and good bar food.

Went here for lunch in the off-season. It's a very cool atmosphere and we had high hopes. Honestly, it was one of our more regrettable meals on the island, as we left spending $60 for lunch for 2 people and we weren't really bowled over by it. The thing that left a very bad taste in my mouth, however, was that when our meals arrived, our server asked if we wanted another soda. We both said yes and she took our current soda glasses. And then, apparently, forgot about us. We got through our entire meal with nothing on the table to drink (not even water), unable to get our server's attention to fix the situation. When she finally saw empty plates, she went "Oh that's right- your sodas!" and brought them over as she cleared our lunch plates. I understand these things happen and I wasn't going to give it another thought until we got the bill and saw that she had CHARGED US for those 2 refills. Had we not been running dangerously close to running out of our 2 hour time limit in the parking lot, we would have said something but we weren't going to risk a ticket for $5 worth of sodas.

Had a great casual lunch here. Nice selection of local beers and our pub- style sandwiches were very good (grilled chicken with roasted red peppers, pepper jack, chipotle mayo, and corned beef sandwich with melted Swiss and thousand island dressing). Fun ambience. Would do again, but where were the wooden nickels?
(4)Bob E.
Cozy little pub with 11 taps of local beers, cider, and root beer. 100 yr old ceiling with round skinned beams. They provide sampler flights of the local beers which is always welcome. I would recommend this to any local beer aficionado.
(5)Brendan M.
The Newes pub has a nice cozy atmosphere in the off-season with a fireplace and small friendly crowds. We went in on Christmas Eve and had a great relaxing dinner. The food was very tasty (the lobster roll initially looked a little small but it was packed with lobster and a great sauce with capers and turned out to be a perfect size) and the onion rings were phenomenal! They even accommodated a picky eater in our group by combining elements of two dishes and it turned out great. Finally, the root beer that is on tap is delicious! I will definitely be back the next time I am on the Vineyard.
(4)Miranda R.
Heaven in heaven. The absolute perfect pub - mellow vibe, great beer, friendly people and delicious, straightforward food. The lobster mac and cheese haunts my dreams in all its stringy, gooey, briny carboliciousness. Paradise.
(5)Bryan V.
We ate at the back bar and loved everything about it. The French onion soup rocked, the pulled pork sandwich was tender and juicy, and we over-indulged on the decadent chocolate cake. Thanks for recommending the Shipyard Pumpkinhead Ale--perfect drink for the season!
(5)Sean O.
One of my favorite places to eat. Awesome old pub atmosphere, great selection of local beers, the BEST onion rings.
(5)Christopher P.
Really good simple coastal pub food at a reasonable cost. Solid selection of ales, bourbon, and single malts. And a great atmosphere to boot! If you are looking for not boring, not fancy, not complicated, good, and easy in the middle of a tourist town this is your best bet. That said during the season and at peak hours expect to wait (true anywhere in Edgartown).
(4)Mary C.
Great little pub. We went there every night we were in town. Ryan the bartender was awesome. And please ask him about his broken Nalgene Water Bottle. It's a wonderful story for all of those out there that know about the durability of a Nalgene!
(5)Rose N.
We visited three times in a week, the only restaurant in MV that we visited more than once. The clam chowder is excellent, the lobster Mac n cheese is fantastic. Also a favorite, the Blueberry beer. The atmosphere is colonial pub/sports bar, but it is still a good place for kids.

I love this place. It is right on a side street in the best part of The Vineyard. There is a good mix of locals and tourists. It is a very friendly welcoming environment. At times I have had to wait for a seat other times they seem to move people right along. Either way there is always a pleasant crowd in there. Make sure to stalk up on your wooden nickels. If you drink enough and save your nickels you could be part of there honorary club.
(4)Andrew M.
The News is my favorite restaurant on the island. What makes it so great is its small size and really cozy atmosphere. The pub-style food is mouthwatering and they have a big beer selection. The service is really friendly despite the fact that they are always busy. Everything on the menu is great and although in the summer you might have to wait, trust me, it's worth it.
(5)Julio G.
if you want the feeling of the past with the taste of the present this is your place. its a lil tricky to find but it is worth it. and don't for get to collect your wooden nickels.
(5)Dan A.
Love this place. Great french onion soup! Awesome beer selection and they are even open in the winter after all the tourist have left. Stop by and grab the seat near the fireplace. PS I am looking for the wooden nickels that they give you when you buy a beer. If you have any that you want to get rid of or would like to sell please email me.
(5)Carole S.
Awesome atmosphere, great beers on tap. Menu is a little limited but everything on it is delicious! Have only tried the red and lighter beers but they are simply awesome. Imagine that the heavier beers are also good. Be prepared for a wait on holiday weekends or any Fri. and Sat. during the season. Worth the wait. You will not be disappointed.
(5)Gia M.
We went to the pub with 4 adults and 2 small children (ages 2 and 4) for lunch. Our waitress was really great, friendly and responsive. I spent most of my time on Martha's Vineyard tasting Lobster Rolls everywhere we went ;) so that's what I had. It was pretty good. I would recommend it. But my husband had the fish and chips - and that was excellent. I would go back again. Food in general is better than average pub fare, and the atmosphere is pretty relaxed and friendly.
(4)Jonathan Y.
I love this place. I go their every year when I am on the vineyard. The fish and chips is the best, but they have lots of other great food. They have a good number of beers on tap and prices are reasonable priced for Island. It is a fun place to have a beer with lots of great food!!
(5)Hank M.
Tourist Trap. Food is mediocre at best. Actually having worked the line here, I would never eat here again. Kitchen is filthy. The Board of Health should shut this place down. That being said, tourists love it.
(1)Jonathan A.
I lived in Martha's Vineyard for a brief spell one fall/winter and this was my hideout. I would go here and read, eat clam chowder and fish and chips sipping on their delightful house brews till my stomach tore from its lining. Food from the UK gets a bad wrap, but from what little time I've spent over there and subsequent developed affinity for the potato based delicacies, it's a lot better than the reputation. Please! Fry that cod! And... and... why NOT serve it with fried potatoes! And... please... potato soup! And ANYTHING tastes better with a double pint! There's a great little nook by the fire place, with a coffee table and nice, plush chairs. And be sure and ask your waitress for wooden nickels with your pints! Collect enough and you get a short-yard with your name on it, held for you at the bar!
(4)Gail V.
Visited MV for the first time June 4 - 11....was starving one night at 10 p.m. and the Newes was the only place still serving food. Had the bbq wings and they were delicious! Went back for lunch and had a wonderful Black Angus cheese burger and onion rings which were great! Waitress was full of information and waiter helped us with our beer tasting. We had a very good time there! Highly recommend it!
(5)bob c.
This place is as cool as you can get on the Vineyard. It is a small English style pub that features some of the best bar food and beer on the island. It is small, so expect a line on the busy weekends but well worth it. Great burgers, fish and chips, and the like... They serve french fries (reg or curly) in a brown paper bag that is big enough for the whole table. The desserts aren't bad either. A friendly staff and cool decor make this place a must when you are in town. Ahh and don't forget the beer. They have a good variety of draft beer from around the world ( my favorite is their own news light) and gigantic 26 ounce mugs to drink them from. Not sure what beer you want, no problem. They offer a "rack" of beers were you can choose to taste 5 different types. If you go at night, don't be scared if you get a tap on the shoulder and no one is there. The news pub is part of the Haunted Kelly House Hotel. (By the way, this is were Spielberg and the rest of the crew stayed while filming JAWS on the island) If for some reason you do come across the ghost, buy him a tall, i think he likes Guinness.

my wife and I ate here last evening. The prices for evening meals are reasonably priced in relationship to many of the other evening dining choices in Edgartown. We had become accustomed to paying $20 to $30 for our meal choices apiece. This was more in the line of $12 to $18 for each ( not including drink, obviously ). The service was good, our waitress Ashley was friendly and attentive. I had the lobster macaroni which was ok. Not alot of flavor in the lobster, the macaroni was el-dente, very good portion. My wife had the shrimp ceasar salad and she rated it a 3 out of 5. I will say that the meal was as good as we've had at more spendy places so far. I have not been overly impressed with the overall dining here so far given the prices that meals are. We each also had the beer rack which is a sampling of 5 beers they offer. With this each of the samples are in 5 oz. glasses. This was kind of fun to do. Overall I would say this is 3 star. I would not send someone out of there way to go here, but pretty good.
(3)Shari P.
We've had two meals here this weekend: a breakfast and a dinner. The breakfast was delicious- I had the French toast which was cut thick, dipped in egg and served with mixed berries and warm syrup. My dining companion had the yogurt fruit parfait which was freshly prepared but she also enjoyed tasting my French toast. Dinner was a classic New England Clam Chowder filled by BBQ Ribs. My dining companion enjoyed the turkey sandwich. Have a look at the pics!

I would have given The Newes 4 stars but our service was just bad! I feel that if the food is good, service can be mediocre and it will be just fine. Not here!!! The service was so bad it almost made the food taste bad. After being seated we were greeted almost immediately with our drink order. From there is went all down hill. After 15 minutes we had to ask for our waiter. Once out waiter arrived we said "through you forgot about us" he then said "I was busy"........hmmmm I through as a waiter you are supposed to "wait" on people, what else can you be doing. He was busy chatting with the hostess. We had to ask for refills and ask for the check. Just Bad!!! Sucks to give this place a 1 because I actually liked my Fish and Chips. Next time I am around my eyes will skip this place! Note to management....please keep your servers in check, it does mean something to people.

The food is standard pub fare. It's pretty good. But the problem was when it came. The server, this little shit from Texas was rude from the beginning. The entrees took over a hour to get to our table. When asked why the punk said because we ordered appetizers and gave us advice that next time we shouldn't order apps because it delays the entrees. Uh no son. We all know how restaurants work. Not sure how they work in the backwaters of Texas. Aside from any server issues our meal was comped. An amazing gesture which restored some good will.
(1)John E.
Nice place. Great atmosphere. Server was a bit shy but English wasn't her first language. Understandable. Served me a breakfast item after breakfast was over. Big plus. Lox and bagels were good. No capers though. That was odd but great presentation and taste.
(4)Jessica B.
Nice, casual place to sit outside, drink a beer, and grab a sandwich. If you're lost, it's at the base of Kelley House. Yelp has the location off by a block. I love the "newspaper" look of the menu. I had an Otter Creek Copper Ale, which was delicious. The beer list is local to New England and well curated. I'm used to the options being a glass or a pint, so when I was offered a tall, I said SURE!, thinking they meant a pint. I think it was about 20 ounces. Delicious. I had the grilled chicken panini which was tomato, pesto, provolone, and chicken served on ciabatta bread. It was great. It's basically a pub with really good food. Would eat there again.
(4)Peter C.
Location is great but found this place a little less clean than other places...and even a little smelly depending on the time of the day you are there.
(3)Mary R.
Great variety - freshly and quickly prepared. Good service too. The Reuben was delicious, lean and plentiful.
(4)Emily M.
At best average food. The waiter could not have been less interested in providing service. Unfortunately he did not pay attention to our order and did not bring the items we had ordered and never checked back in. We will not be returning on our next visit to MV.

In an attempt to conceal my tiny, well-mannered, adorable miniature Pomeranian AND satisfy mine and my boyfriends hankering for New England seaside fare, we sat at an outdoor table at The Newes From America Pub in Martha's Vineyard. The menu is comprised of traditional Irish dishes and your typical American eats. We were tempted to try the "rack of beer" custom sampler, which did deliver 5 beers of our choice in an old flight paddle rack, slightly awkward to maneuver without tipping. Fine. Great, time to eat. Summons the greasy, stoner-esque waiter, to fetch a decent bowl of clam chowder and a much less enjoyable platter of rubbery, ill-cut, previously frozen calamari and waaaaay too many deep friend jalapeno rings. No thanks, I'm saving room for my $20 lobster roll and "salad" (add $2 extra to NOT have fries). My boyfriend opted for the bangers and mashed. I was rightly skeptical. Shit came out looking like some Jimmy Dean links were left to wrinkle in the sun for 2 weeks, covered in a questionably dark mystery sauce, (clearly meant to conceal) atop a sad plop of basic bitch mashed potatoes and a small heap of green beans in white chunky sauce. From later discussion, apparently the shriveled links tasted grotesquely burnt and the maroon sauce was an overload of sodium rich gravy from a mix or a can, but certainly no one's love for the culinary arts! The "white" sauce smothering the green beans was actually an appalling amount of kiss-killing garlic, also derived from a jar and carelessly overpowering any attempt at a flavor profile. My lobster roll was 9 parts lettuce leaf and 1 part, undressed, lack-luster lobster. Rip off central. The "salad" was some greens literally stuffed into a tiny soup crock with no other vegetables or meaning. I pulled out one forkful and the entire bowl of leaves exploded like the last hunk of tissue from the Kleenex box. Fail. In an attempt to keep my little furry lady (still well behaved and hidden) happy, I ordered her the chicken wings off the kid's menu. Three clumpy pieces of batter heavy chicken arrived at the end of the meal with fries. I pulled them apart to feed her the meat. Stoner Steve returned, not to ask us if we needed anything or to inquire as to how our meals were, but to inform us if we wanted to come back, the doggie would not be allowed. Don't worry buddy, we wont be back.
(1)Chris B.
I always come here when I'm on the vineyard. It's kind of dark very pub-ish. Not a huge place but very intimate and cozy. The French onion soup is killer good, a must have. The Caesar is good very thick dressing though. My bf ordered the French dip sandwich, neat was good au jus was great......bread was not fantastic. We also tried the buttermilk fried chicken- yum.
(5)Ryan R.
The atmosphere is cool. We were referred to go there by a few locals. We sat at a table near the bar. I believe we were supposed to have a server but after 10 mins without anyone stopping by the bartender took over. He did an alright job considering he had a full bar and other drinks to make. The most unfortunate thing was all of our soups were warm at best.. And compared to the lobster rolls we had at 3 other places on MV, this one was the worst. Cool spot, but there's definitely better.
(2)Sonia M.
A fun place to eat in Edgartown...the food was good- Not mind blowing awesome but nothing to complain about either. They were extremely busy and so the service was rather slow - but they kept coming to the table to update us on how much longer we would need to wait.
(4)Connie C.
While visiting Edgartown, we wanted to have some lunch. I saw that this place has good reviews so I went to check it out. It was really empty when I went. We were pretty much the only dining customers. I was weirded out but Martha's Vineyard in general seemed pretty empty. I guess it's because I went during off-peak season. The staff was really friendly and chill. The bathrooms were pretty clean. We ordered the lobster mac and cheese, Bangers 'n Hash, and the crab cakes. The lobster mac and cheese was amazing. There was just the right amount of lobster pieces swimming with bacon bits in the perfectly melted 3 cheeses covered in panko. I expected the bacon to be the cheap crispy, hard kinds but it wasn't. My only complaint is that the cheese cools down to a glob-like consistency. 9/10 I didn't really try much of the Bangers 'n Hash dish besides little bites. This dish consists of Irish sausages and mashed potatoes. The bangers were cooked with onions and they were delicious. The mash was not really up my alley. It was very buttery (yellow-colored mash) and creamy. I don't generally like butter in my mash. 8/10 The crab cakes were decent-sized. They were the first crab cakes I ate that tasted fishy (a good thing). Generally, I feel like they taste more like stuffing. I want to be able to actually taste the crabs! It is a crab cake after all. You actually see the crab meat when you cut into it. Usually it's mushed up breading at other places. 8/10 Come eat the good eats of Edgartown! I also hear the beer is good!
(5)Sean C.
Food was very good. Spinach and artichoke dip is legit. Chicken sandwich very good. Drinks also tasty.
(5)John D.
Great restaurant in Edgartown. Portions were huge and the prices were very reasonable. Haddock Fish and Chips were amazing--giant piece of fish. We also ordered Fried Chicken and Reuben Sandwhich. We ate outside--great spot to people watch. Definitely a kid-friendly establishment--very accommodating staff. Service was outstanding. Would highly recommend it.
(5)Ellie A.
The service was slow. The food was good and well prepared. At the end of the meal they gave us the wrong check. The waitstaff were not friendly and many of them seemed like they did not want to be there- the bartender is probably the nicest guy in the place. The waitresses were not receptive and the waiters lacked basic etiquette. The food was decent but the service did not meet expectations. If the service were better our experience would have been much more enjoyable.
(2)Jeff K.
It's the best I think it's ever been. I've been going here for years and was surprisingly surprised. Burger was really good along with the prime rib ($19.99), 3 cheese mac and cheese and fish and chips were ALL worthy of repeat performance. They have two sizes of beer, many good selections (some local) and decent service. Our food was served quickly and hot! We'll return..soon...
(4)Peter A.
Best fish & chips on MV, great rueben, burgers, kid friendly, nice beers and the BEST root beer we've ever had!
(5)Stephanie R.
Although I am giving this a three star rating I am telling everyone that visits the island they have to go here. It is probably one of the oldest pubs on the island and I have been going here since I was in my mothers womb...Literally. The reason I am giving this place a three star rating is because I think the quality of the food has really gone down since I could remember. However, the french onion soup and Roquefort stilettos were superb as usual. I do think this place is better in the winter and I do miss the pepperoncini that they used to have at the tables. The beer is definitely good to get if you like to drink a lot of beer because they come in large mugs and they even have a sampler rack which is pretty awesome just hard to finish if you are a girl that gets full from beer easily.
(3)P S.
Always a good time and a good meal. Best fish & chips in town! Good chowda, a great spot to eat and watch the game too. Cozy and perfect on a chilly evening too.
(4)Lisa B.
Food is good for lunch...sandwiches, pub fare, beer! Nice, lower level street location. Food is slow to come but very good, cooked personally to your liking. An annual visit for us. The corned beef Ruben is good and chicken sandwich is delicious. Salads are so-so.
(4)Nooshin W.
The place is beautiful. I got the organic mixed greens and my husband got pulled pork sandwiches. Both were very good.
(4)Jeff M.
For me, every vacation needs a quiet little spot, a comfortable seat to pull up with ready access to a cold beer. My spot on the Vineyard is a little busier than most, and there aren't a whole lot of seats at the tiny bar (either of them), so you have to time it right in the high season. But, this is it. Cold beer, prompt and friendly service, the brown bag of hot and crispy, fresh fried Onion Rings are a welcome bonus.
(4)Darren H.
Everything seems to be average price on the vineyard... But the service was great and the fish and chips with some of the best that I've ever had! Great pub atmosphere in a really good experience.
(4)Joe S.
The Newes has a charming atmosphere that genuinely feels like an old colonial pub and manages to pull this off without being tacky or kitschy. The Drayman's Porter is by far their best beer on tap and has been for years now. Most of their other beers are essentially variations of nut ales. While the food and drink are definitely a little pricey, the atmosphere is much more pleasant than the Wharf, and not overly fancy and formal like Alchemy. This is a great little pub that's easily walkable in Edgartown Center. If you're staying at the Kelly House or any of the other local hotels this one is a no-brainer.
(4)CraigandXiomara C.
I came here twice in a one week visit. Great meals included chicken wings, lobster roll and fish and chips. Outstanding beer selection.
(4)Rudy S.
We were really satisfied. The service was very prompt and professional, the food was quite good. And the prices were very reasonable. We enjoyed sitting outside at their side street tables. If you are looking for a high end elegant dining experience, this is not the place to go to. But if you want a solid meal, at a reasonable price, with good service... you'll really be happy with this one.
(4)Alka R.
If you're looking for a british style pub on MV, you can find no better than The Newes. To start, the list of draft beers is impressive and beer flights are available to taste more than one and remember the experience. I had the Offshore Nut Brown Ale brewed right here on the island, and was quite happy with it. Its obvious they take care with their beer selection and it shows. We started the meal with the bag O' rings and the Roquefort stilettos. The onion rings were well done, supposedly some of the best on the island, and we all agreed. The stilettos were breadsticks halved and covered in roquefort cheese and piled with bacon with a bleu cheese dipping sauce very rich and delicious, but a bit salty for some. We ordered the traditional bangers and mash and fish and chips, as well as the buttermilk fried chicken with gravy and a pulled pork sandwich. The bangers were traditional pork sausages fried crispy and covered with rich onion gravy with smooth and creamy mashed potatoes and green beans, delicious. The fish and chips was one large Haddock filet, with shoestring fries and light coleslaw. The fish was tender and fried well, not greasy or too heavy. The pulled pork was tasty and smokey and not drowning in BBQ sauce. However, the star of the meal was the chicken. The chicken, a pounded thin, breaded and deep fried boneless chicken breast with a light herbaceous sausage gravy was amazing. tender, savory, rich but without being greasy or heavy, it was one of the best fried chicken incarnations I have ever experienced. With props to Ashley, our wonderful server, the dinner was one of the best we have had on the island. Not pretentious and comfortable with kids, its a sure bet for a comfortable satisfying meal on the island.

The Newes is a traditional pub at its finest, and for my husband and I, this spot shines its brightest in the off season. The Newes from America is attached to The Kelley House hotel in Edgartown, and naturally during high tourist season this place is crowded. The inside is reminiscent of old English pubs; with a dark interior in the main room, low light, and cozy when the fireplace is roaring. The other bar room is more modern and light. The fare is standard pub fare: burgers, club sandwiches, fish & chips, soup of the day etc. The draughts are a mixture of local and well know and the well drinks are the usual suspects. For me, the main room is cozy in the off season and the bar is just right. The business is steady and never overwhelming; you're able to relax and enjoy your brew while making conversation with the bartender. I'm a fan of the BBC porter they have on tap and this is one place where I really enjoy it! We popped In the other night and partook in the specials while enjoying a couple pints, and it hit the spot. Wonderful cozy spot at the right times, and as long as we have been going, quite consistent.

Best fish n chips I ever had. Very reasonably priced. Great location you can inside or out.
