Chelsea Bar!! This bar is pretty cool and the food is awesome. Service is not too bad either. On game days it gets really packed and busy but you get taken care of nonetheless. Breakfast items are superb. Omelettes and home fries are always a hit if I join hubs for a football match on the weekends. Once I missed breakfast so I opted for a burger with a fried egg on top. Oh it was worth it. Burger was ginormous and tasty. Fries were yum too. Never a bad time here!

If you're looking to watch soccer, whether it's the MLS Revolution or the finest European Champions League matches, this is the place to do it. Seems like there's always a crew of soccer fans watching some difficult-to-find game here. I'd like a few more craft beers on the draught list, but all the Irish classics are covered. The food is fantastic -- comfort food straight from the British Isles, and I've never been disappointed in my meal. The service is curt and no-frills and I'm perfectly ok with that. It's a good locals pub, but it's also a very short walk from the JFK/UMASS station on the Red Line if you're coming from elsewhere in the area.

Great pub serving some lovely comfort food including fish and chips, Mac and cheese, wings and so much more. You have to try out the Irish Sausages!! Curry sauce, chips and pork sausages! Yum. Oh and if you're a packers pan, they have an entire Green Bay Packers area upstairs. Additionally, the Guinness is fresh.

Fake Irish bar that hates non-locals. My wife and I were new to the area and were looking for a place to watch the Women's World Cup. This bar is listed as the Official American Outlaws (US soccer fan club) bar so we decided to go here for the watch party. We were both wearing USA jerseys and are members of an American Outlaws chapter (Roanoke) so we assumed we would be welcomed. Once we got there we saw that it was "seat yourself" so we sat at a small table in the corner. We asked the bar tender is we could sit at the table and he said yes. After 10 minutes of no service we were asked to move by a server because she was "hoping to get at least 12 people at that table". (The table was 2 ft x 2 ft). She told us there were table upstairs and we needed to move. We went upstairs and found that there was a private viewing party and there was no where to sit. We decided at this point to leave and on our way out we saw the same server sit two people she was very familiar with at the same table my partner and I were asked to move away from. Not to pile on but the bar was also dark, dirty, and really not a welcoming environment. Needless to say the service was incredibly terrible and we are very happy with leaving this dingy and unwelcoming bar. SAVE YOURSELF THE TROUBLE AND DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE.

If you are a packers fan, this is 10 stars. I heard about a packers meet up group and knew I had to go. The place your traditional American-Irish pub with good food and beer. Everyone had a good time. Can't wait to come back for packers, beer and more sausage and peppers!

Banshee's is a nice small bar for watching sports. They have an upstairs room dedicated to the Green Bay Packers. I had the opportunity to watch the Packers bar a few times here and the experience is great. All the patrons are friendly and it's nice to be surrounded by green and yellow. If you're not a cheesehead, don't worry the food is good. The buffalo chicken nachos are freaking awesome. Their burgers are also a hit. The french fries are delicious. Handcut and doesn't taste like its been frozen for ages. The staff are friendly. Never had a problem with street parking.

Given the mixed reviews, I expected maybe some inconsistencies in food or service but have by and large very much enjoyed my every visit to the banshee. The wait staff has always been exceptionally friendly polite and efficient, the food has been delicious and while there may sometimes be a wait for it I have always understood that to be because it is fresh, was actually prepared in the kitchen by real person, and comes hot and delicious. I enjoy the perpetual sports games on the numerous large screen television sets and the ambience of a lively of local pub where everyone is always welcome. The one black spot on its character is it tiny, claustrophobic ladies room, however it is mostly clean and this is a bar after so go, and go have another beer. Cheers.

A good local bar in the heart of Dorchester. This place has great food and an ok beer selection. Good place for a group to grab a table or a few friends to grab a spot at the bar. It's definitely dark and gloomy inside with its fair share of creeps once the sun goes down. This place shines during a game.

Last Saturday morning and allowing an hour for lunch before heading to an appointment, I chose Banshee as near my bnb and after seeing lobster mac & cheese on a review. I arrived a little after 11 am to the almost empty pub (2 other tables already eating) and stood by the bar for quite a bit and was finally met by a bartender --- seeming to struggle to be friendly --- who said to sit anywhere. She came over a few minutes later to take my drink order and then I discovered that lunch was not being served --- at 11:15 and with no other tables in the queue? Seriously? From the limited breakfast choices, I ordered an omelet and home fries a few minutes later. After 25 minutes and only 1 new table to serve, there was still no food. I asked the other bartender about my meal and she said "just a few more minutes." Several minutes later and now close to noon, I went to the bar and said that the delay left me no time to eat and make my appointment. She offered to make it a to-go order and (surprise!) to comp the meal which was the best option possible. While both the potatoes and omelet were simply delicious, eating out of a Styrofoam box with plastic utensils while navigating Boston traffic was not the anticipated dining experience. Like other reviewers, it seems to me the Banshee doesn't take too well to non-locals, even an one like me who was being friendly and polite throughout. Some other reviewers have talked about poor service and enmity to minorities, but my heritage is Boston Irish so it wasn't that. Really, it's mystifying why there was a holdup to create one simple omelet on a very slow Saturday morning.

The best thing about the Banshee is that it's two blocks from my apartment. The second best thing about the Banshee is that it has mercifully been open through all these blizzards, which has been a lifesaver for a neighborhood full of stir-crazy twenty-somethings. Like that this place has a divey feel without actually being a dump. I don't have any complaints about the service, but everyone who works here has an Irish brogue so maybe I'm just distracted by their charm. Really just a great neighborhood place. Some day we'll make it here while the kitchen is still open!

Dirty glasses, cider that smelt like it had gone off, staff that was rude to change a glass that had gum on it, and a toilet clogged to hell. I was uncomfirtable sitting with my back to the dance floor because I thought I was going to get hit, maybe that's because I got hit twice on the way to and from the bathroom. Music was odd, early 90s hip hop then recent ke$ha?

My first time at The banshee and I went to have a casual light dinner with a friend. I ordered the Mac and cheese with chicken. The Mac and cheese dish was average to say the least. It was a bit bland and lacked flavor even with the chicken added. I will definitely recommend this place for drinks and appetizers to my friends.

Great Irish bar in the heart of Dorchester. I've been here a couple times while house hunting in the area. The food is tasty (I've had a burger and a pizza), the beer and cider selection is solid but not overwhelming. The service is police and attentive. They were even willing to tell me about the neighborhood. I can't wait for the Banshee to become my local joint!

MOST MIND BLOWINGLY BAD SERVICE I have had in ages. We never got our food but I can't leave zero stars. Game day ambience is there but worst waiting service. Earnest girls staff the bar but whoever owns the place doesn't staff well or apparently train staff to take orders or to have any customer service. First the first-come first serve seating policy is whack. If you have a party of four who want to order food and all your tables have one or two guys sipping beers, your throwing money away. And you can't reserve tables. Finally found a stool. Waited an hour for an order I placed. Then they brought the WRONG ORDER. I have never been so hangry in my life. Not coming here again. And I don't suggest you do unless you want to stand around hungry for two hours. I have never been to physically mad by the lack of service but maybe it was just all the testosterone around...

Ok...so a lot of mixed reviews. I'll be brief here. The waitresses are the unhappiest people ever. I mean really unhappy. The food never came...never came. An Hour and a half later we were told it's very busy. Warn us! Honestly! Just say hey....your food will take a while. Like a long while. The worst service and I can't say how the food was cause it never came. All in all stay clear unless it's night time and you just want to drink. Oh... And bring a flare gun.

Perhaps I'm one of the few who didn't fall under the spell of the Banshee but that doesn't bother me much. Came here for a meeting with some friends once. I wasn't planning to buy any food really but it would have been nice to at least get a drink. I couldn't even get that because the servers wouldn't even look in my direction when I tried to flag them down. Save for another meeting, if even then, this will not be a place I'm planning on hitting up again.

Although the food is fantastic and the majority of the bartenders are professional (although slow in service and attention generally), the Banshee utilizes a temporary-staffing-like door service that is egregiously discriminative. I've been a patron here for over two years, tipped 20% or higher on all of my food and alcohol purchases, and never caused any problems. Being refused in Juno's blizzard and then watching 3 people being admitted after being refused was the last straw. Good thing there are other establishments in the neighborhood that offer better service and are honest regarding issues of capacity.

Tried to call in an order for the office during one of the bizzards and was told I had to come in to place it, even though I made it clear it was a pretty big order. Drove all the way there and waited to place the order since it was crowded. Finally as a guy was taking my order, a bartender walked up and said "we're not taking any to-go orders and walked away. Really??? What a douche!!!

Well, let's get this started. First off, as soon as I walked in I get attacked by a bouncer yelling at me for my ID. It seemed rude and unnecessary, but whatever, life goes on. I sit down at a table, wait for a couple minutes and apparently the server just doesn't give a shit about me trying to give her my money. So me and my two friends move to the bar. I get my first drink and open a tab. After about two drinks, I had to wait 7 minutes and 42 seconds for a bartender to see that I needed another drink. This is absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable. Jon Taffer would be appalled with the bar service. So I got my drink finally, and it HAD NO NAPKIN UNDERNEATH IT. This is no joke, the bartender gave me a drink with no napkin. I've seen it all. Also, the limes were brown and dried out. I will only be coming back here if I get paid to. Overall, a mediocrely sad experience. #yoloswegreview

GREAT PLACE TO WATCH SOCCER I came here to watch Chelsea vs Manu, and the place was packed full of Chelsea fans (I am also a supporter of CFC). The people there were wonderful, as the were very knowledgable about soccer and just over all friendly (especially if you were wearing blue). Not to mention, the bartenders were fantastic, both of which were Irish girls, and needless to say she knew how to poor a Guinness properly. And on top of all of that, the food was surprisingly good. I had steak tip eggs Benedict which was phenomenal. I will definitely be back, game day or not, and if you like beer, good people, and soccer, this is the place for you. Only downside is that it was a little pricey (I might just grab some food on my way there for the next game)

My friend and I went here with a restaurant.com coupon. I loved the pub look of it. It took a while for us to be helped. When we finally were, the server was very curt. We came to find out that her shift was ending, after she soon after left with her purse. It took a while for the food to come, but when it did, it was okay. The drinks very reasonably priced. I had the short ribs and mash with fried onions. It was delicious. Their curry is also yummy. Our second server was very friendly and helpful.

I've been going to the Banshee for a very long time, so here are some thoughts: In the last few years they have really changed the place. I don't know if it came under new management or what, but it's changed for the better. Long gone are the days where people were stabbed or fights broke out on a nightly basis, and the same rabble showed up every single night as well. I don't know if that doesn't happen anymore because the bar changed or if the neighborhood got better, but now it's pretty great (honestly, always has been). This place is great for watching the NFL if you're a fan of someone other than the Patriots, since upstairs is a private party for Packers fans and they also have Sunday Ticket so you can watch any game.

I love this place. Perfect dark wood and low light but enough to see your (wicked good) food and even read if you want to. Great for watching games or the news. Get the black and gold...guinness with cider.

I've been a fan of the Banshee in the past but this last trip has ruined it for me. If you're looking for a cool spot to drink, fine but anything more than that I would have to recommend somewhere else. The food was not great, either over cooked burgers or under seasoned sandwiches. We also decided to stay for trivia which was a mistake. If you're looking for a good time, go somewhere else. The questions are very obscure and really drain the fun out of the whole experience.

I am currently here and we ordered food before the soccer game started. The game is currently in the 69th minute and we still don't have food. Including halftime it has been well over an hour. This is ridiculous. Don't come here.

I'm a fan of the banshee, although I've been asked to leave quite a few times!! I'm sure it was deserved. But, they always welcome me back! Their steak tips are really freakin good, same with their fish & chips, burgers, beef stew and of course the drinks! Good and cold. Bit of a rowdy crowd come the night time but it's an irish bar, what do you expect?! Place is class and good craic.

There's a comedy group that practices up stairs on Sunday nights. A funny compliment to the great food n beer. This review has been a long time coming, but I am trying to do this a little more. This place is straight fun, you'll end up talking to some one with an accent.

Went on a Friday night with a friend from Cork; we were there from about 9:30-11 and the place was very quiet. I'm told that as far as nightlife goes-- its best on Sundays. Parking was easy to find on street, plenty of spaces. The service was friendly, clients were not overly rowdy, and the bathroom was clean. Nothing "wowed' me, although we just had drinks.

My friends and I have been coming to this place forever (or, well, 10 years since we all turned 21), so it's maybe my favorite bar anywhere just for the memories, but it's also a pretty great place for a sandwich and a pint and watching any sporting event. On several occasions we've also rented out the upstairs bar, which is great because you can control the music yourself and they'll give you a bartender of your own and all you have to do is guarantee that you'll spend at least a certain dollar amount on food and drink, which isn't too tough if you invite 20 or so of your booziest pals. They have a catering menu so you can set up a buffet of apps or sandwiches or whatever. Weeknights it's quiet and almost intimate, not bad for a date. Weekend days it's packed with soccer and rugby teams after their matches. Weekend nights it can be a bit of a loud and crazy scene with a DJ blaring music -- sometimes it's packed with people dancing and other times it's awkwardly empty yet the music is too loud to talk. The best time to be at the Banshee is during a snowstorm, or at weird times like last spring when the city was locked down -- that's when the neighborhood really comes together and you see the whole spectrum of patrons there at the same time. For food, they FINALLY have gotten some great vegetarian items in the last few years, including the egg sandwich which you should definitely order on a baguette rather than the flatbread it now usually comes with. The fish and chips is reliably fluffy and scrumptious, and fish tacos are a great bargain for a good amount of food.

As a Chelsea fan this is the place to go to watch the game. I was there for about 20 minutes, had ordered food when I decided to move tables. I wasn't at my new table a minute until the owner told me I had to leave my table when other people come in because they needed my seat! I told him I already ordered my food, which he didn't care about. He said, "all you need to know is that when other people come in you need to switch seats!" Which came across exceptionally patronising not to mention rude. Who asks a paying customer to sit somewhere else?! Nice thing for the owner is that I had to leave soon after our conversation. I asked one of my friends who stayed to watch the game if anyone took my seat and no one did! The conversation was pointless. Needless to say, if you aren't nicer to customers they won't come back! As for the food, which I've had a few times. It's very greasy and mediocre at best. The fish n chips aren't great but the bangers are decent. Typical American pub but you'd expect more from an Irish owner. If I had to share my experience and feelings about this pub in one word it would be 'disappointing'.

I ate at the Banshee tonight. It has a really nice pub look and feel. It was only half full, but that made the noise levels reasonable. The beer selection is good, the staff was friendly and responsive, the food was good, but not the best pub food I have ever had. It is very much a locals joint - just what i like. I had panko encrusted fish and chips with cole slaw. The fish was over cooked a bit, but the flesh was still tender and flavourful. The chips were very good the slaw was just ok. It didn't have much Flavor, but my tastes run to the New York deli style. It was a nice place to eat and enjoy a pint of Guiness. I would give it 3.5 stars if I could.

Walking up to the place we experienced what I call a "Dorchester Chat"... you know... the one where people stand on opposite sides of the street in their pajamas and yell at each other about something like 'did you see mikey? he said to say hi!" SO... I was a bit worried about what kind of place I would be walking in to. The place was 1/2 empty (as I would expect at 9pm on a Wed night) so we were able to take our pick of bar seats. The staff were super friendly- and went out of their way to be nice to us out-o-towners (picture two obv lesbians in a local Dorcester Irish pub). They poured me a glass of Guinness and my pal got a UFO. The beer selection is a little bit more than I would expect from the avg townie joint- that was refreshing. Wait... wait... what is THIS?! trivia?! they were doing trivia on Wed night. awesome. we played along and found the questions a little easy- maybe this is our new trivia place. ha! I ordered the burger- which was very very good- great flavor and cool presentation. The fries were also excellent. I mean, seriously... even the pickle was perfect. We aren't talking the Ten Tables burger or the Haven in JP... but still... it was exactly what I expected and then some. All-in-all this is a solid place for food drinks and from what I could see by their event schedule... fun. I would definitely return again for trivia and a burger.

I live in the neighborhood and go here on a weekly basis. Nice people and above-average food (pretty great for a local pub in the Dot, really). Great weekday evening locale and their upstairs can be rented out for private parties. I'll say this: the music can get crazy loud after 10:30 on a weekend night, regardless of how many patrons there are. When the place is packed, louder music is welcome, and we bust some moves. But on a quieter Friday when the crowd is thin, we're watching the game or whatever, and no one is dancing? Read the room, guys! That's all I'm saying. I've started and ended many a night in this place and I intend to keep on doing that. Maybe I'll meet you there sometime!

We've got a lot of places in Boston that call themselves a "pub." Specifically, an "Irish pub." Friends, if you want to know what that actually looks like, come to Banshee. The food is excellent. A nice combination of American and traditional Irish with some modern twists. In terms of the service and ownership, you won't find a nicer lot in town. If you're looking to enjoy a pint or two over a sports game, have a nice lunch with parents, or get pissed while listening to U2 covers, you can do it all here. (Just maybe not all at the same time.)

After frequenting The Banshee at least every other week, I have to give them 5 stars. I should note, however, that this review stands only for before the10pm. The service is always friendly and efficient. The food is great (try their burgers, flatbreads, buffalo chicken anything) and the beer selection is good. The pub is dark (traditional Irish), but it's a lively atmosphere. There's usually something going on whether it's a game on tv, trivia, or some other event, The Banshee is a fun neighborhood spot.

I live down the street and have been to the Banshee a number of times for drinks but never for food. Groupon was offering a $20 for $40 toward food so I got it and headed here the other night with a friend. We sat down immediately at the bar and the bartender came over to us immediately. She brought us our drinks (normally we would go for Guinness here, which you should, but we strayed away this night and had a couple of Kronenbourgs) and offered us menus. Appetizer: Wexford Potato Cakes ($8.49). The plate came with 2 large potato cakes and a ranch dressing dipping sauce. These were awesome and flavorful. I could have eaten 10 of them. Entrees: Marinated Steak Tips with Mashed ($15.49); Guinness Braised Short Rib ($14.49) I myself had the Marinated Steak Tips (Medium Rare) and they were excellent. Great portion size and the mashed potatoes to go with it were a nice pairing. My friend crushed the short rib meal without speaking, so he was noticeably enjoying the entree. All in all, we had an appetizer and 2 great entrees for under $40.00 The bartender was attentive the whole night and kept the drinks flowing. For dinner, on popular nights, I would recommend getting here early because it will get crowded. Same with rugby and football (soccer) matches. There are two faces to the Banshee- you can either come to have a nice meal at any time of the day, or you can come in and get rowdy. Other items of note: 1. There is a private upstairs area that can be rented (for free; there is a catering menu that goes along with it if you'd like) for private events. 2. There is trivia on Wednesdays. I've never been so I can't comment. 3. Thursdays are promo nights with giveaways and drinks from specific liquor/beer brands 4. Fridays have newly been introduced as Fiver Fridays where a select item from the menu is $5 for a few hours (This also occurs on Thursday, but the hours are different)

I been to Banshee a few times since moving to Dorchester about 2 years ago. The food is pretty good for a bar/pub. It has a good selection of traditional Irish-Boston grub, with the old town Boston atmosphere. Service is adequete at best. The waitresses don't treat you too well if you're just in there for a drink and an apetizer, hanging out to chat with friends. The place seems more like a watering hole for the locals. Take this place for what it is; a local town pub for the old nighborhood. Good food and good service... If you fit in. Imagine the bars from The Town or Good Will Hunting, authetic and with their own little charm, but don't expect Matt Damon to walk in anytime soon.

I've been going here for 10 years now. The food is great and there is a wide range of options for a pub. The staff is always friendly. Its great for popping in for a few pints, dinner, or even a Saturday night when you want to hear some music. Despite moving out of the neighborhood a few years ago, I still stop by on a regular basis.

Good beer and GREAT drink prices :). Nice atmosphere and friendly clientele and staff, Outstanding food. I got the fish and chips( best I have even had) the fish was flaky and no grease, the chips were perfect. My boyfriend got the seafood pie which was to DIE for . A must go to :)

The Banshee is cool for the fact that they are the longest running soccer bar in Boston. They have a full slate of games every weekend, and through the week, and host most of the larger active European club supporters groups. Its not easy for me to get there so I limit my trips there to USMNT away World Cup qualifiers. I went once last fall for the Antigua & Barbuda game, and again over the winter for for the Honduras game. The Antigua game viewing party was held upstairs. Its a little cramped up there, but for a viewing party, the tight quarters adds to the energy level. The beer selection is decent, but they have more beers available downstairs at the main bar than they have at the little satellite bar in the corner of the upstairs room. The second time I went it was a weekday afternoon and there was a much smaller crowd there. The viewing party was held downstairs, so there was a lot more room to move around. This time I had a steak sandwich, and I was surprised, the food is really good. The food is probably better than the food at The Football Factory, even including the expanded upstairs menu at Legends. You have to respect The Banshee because they were the soccer bar before there was any other option, but it lacks the engagement factor of a place like The Football Factory or Parlor Sports. I respect the Banshee, but I don't love it.

Shared a loaf of french toast (and yes it is a loaf) with my girlfriend on our first visit to The Banshee and was very impressed with the waitstaff. The next week when I went alone was all the more impressive as the bartender indulged my Saints obsession and I got my own television to watch them lose. Too often I've been at empty "sports bars" that have refused to change over to games at the request of the only table actually watching the televisions (getting a USMNT game on at another bar I've been to was an exercise in frustration). That's five stars alone for listening to a solitary Saints fan (nobody was there for Wigan, obviously) in a packed bar, five for the food and bonus points for the pleasant MCFC fans who helped my girlfriend realize watching the Premiership wasn't all Danny Dyer punching people in the back of the head. Even when I can watch the Saints at home on ESPN I'm going to be at The Banshee on atmosphere alone.

What happened to the menu?? The first few times I've come for lunch, the menu was great - fried egg sandwich, steak tips, great options and the food was awesome. Last time I came the menu completely changed. The food was pretty standard pub food but for higher than average prices. It's too bad. I wouldn't mind coming back to watch a soccer game again I guess. The bartenders are friendly enough and they have decent beers on tap. I wouldn't come for lunch again though.

So my Emerald Necklace bike route goes down a section of Dorchester Ave so that we can cut over to Savin Hill and then over to UMass. I picked the Banshee more or less at random as a second stop on a pub ride some friends and I did, and it turned out to be a good choice. When we got there I was initially put off by the lady out front who was asking us if we'd go to the liquor store to buy her a beer, and I definitely felt like one of those group head turns happened when we walked in. But the beggy lady stayed outside, the heads all turned back, the bartender and server were both really nice, and they have Carlsberg on tap.

My new favorite spot to watch an EPL match! Nothing beats walking into a bar on a weekday afternoon and seeing a crowd of Chelsea blue! It's a small place, but it has everything you need, solid beer selection, friendly bartenders and plenty of tv's. Glancing at the menu, it boasted pretty standard Irish pub fare, with offerings like bangers n' mash, fish n' chips and onion soup. Since I didn't feel like putting on an extra ten pounds, by way of corned beef, I turned to my old faithful, curry chips. The curry was thick and flavorful and the fries were cut in house. Win and win! This is the type of place you head to for a long lunch break, and then suddenly realize it is now 1am and you might have just lost your job. Slainte!

"There are only two kinds of people in the world, the Irish and those who wish they were." Never has this rung more true than at The Banshee. I'm Irish so naturally I believe in the above statement, and, frankly I don't see how anyone could deny it. But I digress. It's the sort of feeling you get when you walk into this place - the bartenders and most of the patrons are Irish, like really Irish. They all had accents (sexy!). Anyone else that was in the place just really wanted to be Irish, as they pretended to like Guinness and watch soccer on the TVs. Enough about the staff and patrons, though. Both my friend and I ordered the fish and chips and IT WAS HEAVEN. The batter was light and flavorful and the homemade tarter sauce had this sweetness to it that made the whole thing very interesting. The only minor thing that bothered me was that it was SO dark in there. Probably to hide all our fair, "pretty" Irish faces from the sun. A fun experience and I will definitely be back.

Stumbled upon this place during Game 7 NHL Bruins. Place packed w/Bruins, and only Bruins, fans. Think I was only one not wearing black or yellow. Found one seat at bar. Burger and fries were just ok. Wish I went for the Bangers & Mash. Great beer selection and plenty of Irish immigrants (really) to make it feel like you're in Dublin (except for the Bruin gear). Great and safe neighborhood. Go if you are comfortable with a real local joint, filled with locals. Btw, I started rooting for the Bruins. How cool would it be if the party spilled into the Boston streets? But they lost in OT- then I thought I might get jumped from a disgruntled, wilding bunch :). No problems as the hood is a good place there.

This spot feels very Irish to me. We were upstairs and the walls were all painted green, with three large plasma TV screens from three different angles. I can imagine this place being a great place for watching games and beer, but their food is not finger-foody because I had to use a knife to cut up my buffalo chicken tenders, which is not ideal if I just kind of want to dig in and have multiple. This spot is definitely different from other spots I've been in.

I love the Banshee. Potato Skin and Calamari aps are a must! They have awesome sweet chili sauce the accompanies the calamari and a great dipping sauce for the potato skins. The potato skins are actually the best I have ever had. The atmosphere is a bar scene which made me surprised with how great the food is. I have been here probably about 10 times now and the only time I was disappointed was their breakfast. Other than that it's great! I would consider myself a new regular :)

The Banshee is a pretty cool spot. We came here on a Friday evening to use a restaurant.com I'd bought. There were no big games on the TVs, so it was really chill inside: a couple older guys watching college football and some of the late after-work crowd having drinks or dinner. They have an upstairs, which I did not check out. Our waiter, who was also the bartender, was very nice and attentive even when the party crowd started trickling in. He has a nice strong pour, so my 2 drinks were enough for the night. Unfortunately, the food was just alright. When I asked his opinion on two menu items, he suggested the steak tips. I always get my steak well-done but not burnt. These weren't burnt, but they were sooo chewy I couldn't even shallow them. Thank goodness for the fries that I munched on all night. My friend had a flatbread, which was just OK. I'd def go back to the Banshee, but I'd stick to drinks

Best place to watch Sports in Boston. Period. END OF STORY. Try the Irish Breakfast, Steak Tips, the Food is great and not expensive. This is Soccer Central. Come in for all Liverpool, Chelsea, Manure & the Mighty Glasgow Celtic games live. Great Craic, great music. Bar staff is amazing, professional & very friendly. Best bartenders in Boston. Just wish the Man United fans would watch their games somewhere else, they're not big on the deodorant. Banshee is THE place to go, best in Boston.

I've just been here for the first time this past Sunday to watch the Women's World Cup against Japan. It was busy but not as crowded as I expected. I was happy about that. The food is decent- nothing great. I had an over cooked hamburger and fairly decent fries. I was impressed that the service was acceptable considering how busy they were. The bar tenders and busboy took good care of us. I did find the servers friendly. If you're going to hang here you have to accept the fact that its 80% Irish (off the boat) and they get very loud. There was a lot of yelling, singing and dancing which is fine but it seemed totally random and unprompted. There were a few gross people going in and out constantly to smoke and someone had a dog inside- not very sanitary. I probably wouldn't make the trek unless there was a good soccer game on. I felt the neighborhood to be safe but I am told at night it could be a bit sketchy around Crescent.

Since I went with Susan R., our experiences were identical. For some reason, I was not afraid of the people on the street in their pajamas shouting to each other. Maybe it's because one of them was walking an elderly beagle into a convenience store, I don't know. I wasn't expecting trivia on Wednesday, since their website claims that Tuesday is when that happens, but was glad to play along (quietly). It was low key and fun, and I'd definitely go back another Wednesday to play for real. And sweep the damn thing, I'm like friggin' Watson! My UFO was excellent. It was crisp and fresh. The bartender did not put an orange or lemon on the glass, but I didn't really care. I like UFO as is, and this pour really felt like it was fresher than I've had at other bars. I did care that they offered halves, and was glad to get a small beer. Ok, I had two. The food was great too. My fish and chips were generously sized and completely delicious. The batter was just right, so I didn't have to add any salt, nor request a pitcher of water. Perfect! And a delightful match for a delicate lady glass of beer! Everything was very reasonably priced, and I'd venture outside of the pub fare and try their entrees with confidence.

Came here for a Revs viewing party for the first time and was impressed. Lots of TVs, good sightlines, attentive and professional bartenders, and really good drink prices. I heard the food is good, looking forward to giving that a go sometime. Don't be alarmed by the Dorchester address. Trust me, there are way sketchier places in the 617 than this part of Dot. Check it out if curious.

Omg so trashy and full of fun. I lived in dot for 5 years and didnt go to the banshee until a few months before I moved. I wish I had gone before that, it was so much fun. I actually got so drunk there that i could no longer see, and it was cheap. The people there are so unbelievably shady and glittery that this totally gets a 5 star in my book. The walk from harbor point was about 20 mins, but it was fun if going with a small group. I also remember being asked in the mens room by an irish guy "do you take the cock" well ok i mean, take it where?

Nice (European) Football Bar in Dorchester. Good draft selection, and food looks good, but have not had it yet. Brunch, Lunch, and Dinner menus.

The Banshee has a great atmosphere and friendly waitstaff. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. A good selection of imported beers. Try the Carlsberg. This is the place to go if you find yourself near Upham's.

I miss living around the corner from the Banshee. Many were the nights that I stumbled home after five too many at the bar. This is as real as it gets in the Dot. The Banshee is the real deal Irish bar that the stupid Black Rose in F-Hall is desperately trying to be if it weren't such a goddamn tourist trap. In contrast, the football hooligans, Southie kids, and IRA guys at the Banshee are the real deal. (Okay, I made up the IRA part, but you get what I'm saying...authentic.) This is a great spot to watch international football or drink with reckless abandon until you get your ass beaten down by Seamus and the boys or tossed by the bouncers. One thing that I've not noticed mentioned in other reviews is that when the shit hits the fan on Friday and Saturday nights, the Banshee gets fucking nuts. People are dancing, shouting, pushing, drinking in a frenzy that needs to be seen to be believed. The pub is dark and loud on these nights, but it all fits. I've only just had a burger here once, but it was pretty good. Good luck finding parking on Dot Ave, but JFK Umass is nearby.

My wife and I moved in around the corner and since we use to live in Fenway, I was concerned about the local food scene not being up to snuff. I'm not longer worried. The Banshee has really, really fantastic food - yes you read that correctly. I'd obsessed with their steak tips. Even the side salad is a true up to snuff salad with fresh greens and a yummy house dressing. The only caveat I will add is that the Banshee is a bar/night club and it can get loud. So if you want the great food with a little less noise, opt for take out.

A warm and inviting Dorchester Ave. Irish pub on weekdays, a sweaty dance club on weekends. The Banshee suffers from a bar's answer to Jekyll & Hyde syndrome... it has two distinct identities at different points during the week. Sunday through Thursday, the place is a well kept Irish-style pub featuring well poured Guinness, friendly and attentive waitstaff, and a low-key crowd. Drink prices are good and the food is a cut above average pub faire. If you're a soccer fan, this is known as a go-to place to watch (I never have myself, but friends of mine have gone for Premier League, I believe). The interior is dark but inviting, and the overall atmosphere is relaxing and 'homey"... an example, I stopped in for a random Guinness and sat near a group comprised of three generations of a single family (grandparents, parents, and college aged kids) all enjoying an appetizer and a beers. On weekend nights, the Banshee's fangs come out and droves of heavy drinking, tight t-shirt wearing sweaty people crowd the place from wall to wall. The music is turned up to 11, the tiny "dance floor" (inconveniently located in front of the bathroom door) is packed with booze fueled men flailing angrily about, and the attitude of the whole place changes from "warm and inviting" to hook-up scene. The bouncers stay very busy, escorting Jager-soaked patrons to the curb and breaking up random testorone clashes on the dance floor. The Banshee is a 4-star pub on weeknights and a 2-star attempt at a dance club on weekends. You'd be hard pressed to find a better place for a mellow beer or two on a Wednesday night, but you could easily do a lot better if you felt like dancing on a Saturday evening.

The Banshee is a well-kept Irish sports bar, and one of the most authentic pubs around. The walls are adorned with Irish football and hurling jerseys, and there is always European sports on the TVs (usually rugby and football) and patrons there to watch (at all hours of the day). The menu features typical Irish dishes (bangers and mash, fish and chips, Sheppard's pie etc.) but the main draw in terms of food seems to be breakfast, which is hearty and inexpensive (Irish breakfast for around 6 bucks). One of the unique features of this bar is that it features the only open mic comedy night in the area, and features local acts and is a nice contrast to the rest of the weekend, which tend to be the most packed nights of the week.

AGREED- with a lot of the other reviews, good and bad- BUT everytime I've ever gone I've had an awesome time. From the bouncers at the door, to the bartenders (Ask for Connor!), to the $2 Shock Top beer special... It's been fun! The crowd's iffy, sometimes young, sometimes old, sometimes all Irish, sometimes college students. We went on a Saturday night where we caught up with the end of the Colts football game, then were swept up by a "rave" at night. The worst part about it is actually some of the obnoxious women that appear to have memorized MTV music videos, but after a few drinks and a push to the side- all's well.

I have been here a few times for drinks in a pinch or at the end of the night. It is a good scene with lots of young people (21-38). It is a fun, loud and drunk mix of people many Irish. Just be prepared because it can get very busy and "bumpy" (people knocking you around and trying to get by) so to speak and very loud. Often there are no open tables/seats. I have not eaten here yet after all these years but plan to now that I know so many people are recommending there food.

The place looked decent for a bar. The food was pretty good. Our server seem bothered that she had to serve us. There were six of us so we spent quite a bit of money and still left a good tip. A patron was saying racial obscenities some of them lacked class.. thanks anyways but I doubt we will return.

Great local bar with great people and cheap drinks! This is a local bar for me. I would so the best bar in the area. Each night there are different things happening there. I like Tuesday nights because its calm with not too many people, so you can just relax and enjoy a beer. Thursday nights I would say are the best nights. The girl to guy ratio is always good, the place is not overpacked! The music is great and people dance and have a good time. The weekends tend to be more lively and the bar does get somewhat overcrowded. Sunday nights are a great night to be there too! Great people, great staff, great prices!

This is the only place that I qualify as a regular at so I am obviously biased from the start with my review. Why even write a review then, you may ask. With the World Cup just around the corner people need to know that the Banshee is the only place to watch soccer in the city. What about the Phoenix Landing? It's pretty tough to watch the Revs or the US national team when they're on at 9 pm on a Saturday night while drunk, sweaty, pill-popping dorks are rubbing against each other at the Boom-Boom Room. Sure, the Banshee has it's own humpfest going on during weekend nights but they also open the upstairs, with a dedicated bartender, and often free food for those there to watch a night time match. I've often spent the night drinking and enjoying the Revs or the Soccer Yanks and come back suffering an insufferable hangover to watch Liverpool at the crack of dawn the next morning. Their surprisingly great coffee does wonders at this moment. Follow that up with a Guinness and their $5 French Toast and I'm almost feeling human again. Their Karaoke on Thursday nights is sloppy hilarity and also deserves a shout out!

Just stopped in after work and new to the area, not to mention I won't be doing a lot of cooking since I'm flying solo. Had bangers and mash tasty enough to return and plenty enough to take home for tomorrow's late nite.

How can you go wrong with a place stuffed with off the boat Irish & Polish - perfect Dorchester crowd. Every time I go there, no matter how many times I tell myself it's an Irish bar in Dorchester, I have an awesome time. I don't know if it's so much that this place is awesome or the people in the bar that make it awesome. i think it's more along the lines of the latter. Went there last Sunday and it was PACKED. There is nothing I love more than a bar/club with tons of people in it. Makes it all the more fun. The music was perfect and the drinks were not ridiculously overpriced. I am a fan of The Banshee.

Banshee is a local fave when it comes to staying local and avoiding downtown scene. I have been there with group of friend at least 10 times by now and DJ is always pumping the hottest hits. it gets a bit overcrowded which occasionaly causes drama. But in general its a fun place!

Finally ate here, and I have to say, I was totally impressed by brunch. A simple menu, but the omelet was fluffy, instead of basically being "veggie scrambled eggs" like many places, and the home fries were solid. Good time, easy to find a seat unlike at some other places in the area.

If you are looking for a place to have a beer and watch soccer in the Boston area, you have a whole bunch of options - but only two if you want a great overall experience - the Phoenix Landing in Cambridge, or the Banshee. The Banshee has its ups and its downs as compared w/ the Phoenix. It's located on Dorchester Ave which can get a little shady at night, and it's less convenient on the T than the Phoenix Landing, which is closer to downtown and right outside the Central Square station. I used to stay away from the Banshee because it was only the home of eurosnob fans who would thumb their nose at U.S. and MLS fans, but lately the Banshee has opened its doors to viewing parties for the Revolution and the U.S. national team, so big ups to them in my book. Plus, they put out free food for our viewing party - their wings and meatballs are fantastic. (You can't really get American games at the Phoenix Landing because they're mostly on at night, when the Landing turns into a slimy dance club - so having them on at the Banshee is great!) A negative to me is that the Banshee is definitely more of an Irish crowd than an English crowd. Not that I don't love the Irish - but I'd rather watch the English Premier League than Celtic F.C., Gaelic football, or rugby. But if any of those are your thing, the Banshee will be great for you. The last time I was there they closed the kitchen, but they allowed and encouraged people to bring in food from the pizza place across the street. So I didn't get to sample their food, but I give them points for being thoughtful. Aesthetically, the Banshee is okay- it's your typical kind of dirty Irish pub. I like the Phoenix Landing better, but I do enjoy the Banshee. If it were closer to where I live I'd go there more often.

I guess this is a good place to go if you are from Ireland, but as an American girl, I am unimpressed (I know, I know, I should expect this in Dorchester; now I know better). I have gone here a few nights with my friend who lives in the area but each time the experience gets a little worse. Its mostly Irish guys who I cant understand one word they are saying, drunk people stumbling all over, and physical fights in the middle of the dance floor when the bouncers try to throw out guys who should've been cut-off eight drinks ago...so watch out and back away quickly once the fight starts or else you will get a big dude falling on you! The positive things are that the bar tenders are really nice and the DJs play good music about half the time which is fun to dance to. But once creepy guys start getting a little too close, the dancing stops being fun. But I guess if you are going there for the meat-market scene, then it is a good choice for you because both guys and girls will easily find many drunk people to choose from.

I've never stayed at The Banshee after 10:30 or 11pm, and have never been on a weekend other than to watch daytime rugby, so I can't comment on the nightlife crowd. That said, the dinner / after dinner crowd is always friendly, the bartenders are quick with your drinks, and the food is usually very good. I usually show up Thursday nights in the summer and always enjoy my time with friends over a few beers. Reading the other reviews, it sounds like I leave at the best time to avoid the shitshow that can become The Banshee at night. Stop by for lunch and dinner and a few beers, or for your soccer / rugby matches on TV. I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Best fish and chips in Boston. Every time. (No kidding.) Fresh and flakey cod over handcut fries. Tartar sauce on the side. Mayo and vinegar-y coleslaw. Dribble more Heinz vinegar over the main attraction, pile ketchup in reserve for the fries, eat with your hands and not with a fork and knife. Try not to eat too quickly -- that fish is piping hot. And don't forget to order a perfectly poured Guinness to go with it. Serves one or two, and it's best enjoyed during the day while the dark wood walls banish any winter clouds.

French fries = win although as a vegetarian there's not a lot else for me on the menu. It's nice to go someplace in my neighborhood and hear people with Irish accents. It's close and I've learned that Sun-Thurs are good nights to go. Not too crazy.

New to the area, we were looking for breakfast on a Sunday morning. An Irish breakfast sounded good, so we headed a few blocks from home to try the Banshee. We walked up and saw a man standing outside. Before we could ask, "are they open for food?" He asked if we were there "for the game." When we looked confused, he remarked, "oh, you're Americans?" Then he let us in to eat. Turns out there was a big football match, and the cover at 8:30 in the morning was $20. We felt badly for going in for free while the others had to pay, but we also felt it would be rude to refuse the doorman's hospitality. We ate a good meal--they have good curry sauce for the chips, something I haven't been able to find since my favorite Irish pub on the West Coast closed down. We didn't stay long, for fear of looking like we might be watching the game for free. Nice crowd, though, and really good pub fare. We'll be back!

I discovered the Banshee during my last month in Dorchester. Not that it's hidden or anything, it's right out on Dot Ave a couple blocks from my place, but I was too stupid to ever go in. Super friendly Irish waitress didn't say anything about my Dunkin's cup. Bathrooms are clean and each toilet in its own room! Great Irish menu and fresh, delicious, inexpensive food. They've got live music and European sports games. You can bring your dog! Based on our one brunch experience, the Banshee is hands down better than the Harp and Bard. Irish breakfast and eggs benedict were solid meals with generous portions. The benedict actually came with an extra egg -- three poached eggs over two muffins. Loved it here.

Hipster bar with overpriced drinks for the college kids in the area. The soccer games that they have on are cool for those of us that care, but the patrons it attracts, not-so-much. Decent selection of beers, nothing great. Good nachos at a fair price. Nothing worth writing home about, however.

I recently went here for the UEFA Championship games of Inter v. CSKA and Barca v. Arsenal. This. Place. is. Amazing. The food is fantastic. The booze is relativity cheap. My favorite was the fish and chips. There were a few hearty pieces of fish, lightly battered. The chips were long and seasoned to perfection. It comes with a small side of slaw, not sweet but not sour. The most important part is the atmosphere. This is one of the greatest places to watch footie/soccer, which ever you want to call it. For the Championship games, they had both playing. There are tvs surrounding the room, so wherever you sit, you can see a match. They play more than just footie, they play rugby as well. It is also a great place to watch the New England Revolution play. My only problems is that this place is pretty far away. I live in cambridge and this place is in dorchester. But for footie, I will go anywhere!

Even in a bar crowded with soccer fans refueling at halftime, even though i wasn't even really standing at the bar, the bartender spotted my near-empty Guinness and proffered another. That says a lot to me about what kind of quality bar the Banshee is. The kind that likes to give you beer. They pour an outstanding pint of Guinness, and the place is crawling with people who seem like they're probably spending their whole day there. In a good way. Also, they were kind enough to host a pile of Revolution supporters (for a lousy match against TFC) for a few matches (how weird that a bar owner would want to invite a bunch of soccer fans) so they're doubly okay in my book.

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! Not only is it just up the street but it is like walking in to Cheers where everyone knows your name and a bonus-will hold your hair too! Everyone is laid back, dances-no matter how bad they are! The DJ takes every request you ask, the bar is attentive and the food isn't bad for bar food, try the shepherds pie. The only down side is the Jager and red bull comes hot which makes for a not so good Jager bomb! Other than that you'll find me there almost every weekend dancing to DJ Mikey's tunes!

This place is _awful_. Having been here on a weekend now I can tell you that unless you're looking for a bar fight (the guy's problem) or to get date raped (the girl's problem) you'd do better to avoid this place. While during the day it maintains a nice, quiet atmosphere, if you come here on a weekend night prepare for a pretty fucked up experience if you're looking for anything other than a Southie/DOT-meets-Jersey-Shore scenario.

Walked down to the Banshee with some old friends and some new friends on Friday night. It was about what I expected, only louder. There were 8 of us and we had no problem finding a place to sit. The bar was full of young, fun people. "interesting" mix of music from the DJ. I would love to check this place out for a Rugby or Football (soccer) match.

The Banshee used to be my home bar. I loved the Irish boys and all the craic ( Irish for a good time). If you love a good brogue this is your bar!! Ahh to be young again and doing Jager bombs nightly and dancing on the bar or the back bench. Once I even picked a guy up threw him over my shoulder and carried him out of the bar and tossed him on the sidewalk for being a Yankees fan; ahh liquid courage. For night life the place is usually hopping friday, sat, and sunday nights after 10p. They are only open till 1a but Foley's is only a short cab ride away. The food here is typical Irish pub food. Go for the shepherds pie or the buffalo tenders; avoid at all costs bacon and scallops or nachos. If your hung over and happen to roll in here they make a mean Irish breakfast.
(4)
Sean H.
Just went there for my first time last night and it was really good. The buffalo wings were awesome and I am a huge wing fan and rarely find exceptional buffalo wings but they were tender, cripsy, and delicious. Steak and the mashed were bomb too and really friendly staff and crowd. Just a real Irish pub, and I can walk to it in a minute so I'm probably going to become a regular now lol.

I've only been here twice, but only remember it once. My friends seem to really like this place and I know many people who go here regularly. I really liked it, the drinks are cheap, it's a good crowd and there is dancing. I would defiantly like to come here more often.

Love this bar. Don't get here as often as I used to, but there is a fondness in my heart for the wee Irish girl, Lorraine, behind the bar. The Banshee is a great weekend scene for DJs and dancing - music that 9-5 seems devastatingly cheesy transforms into your favorite epic sing-a-long dance party. Every time. Also a great place to watch soccer/football/whatever. And for daytime drinking in general. Banshee, I heart you.

First off, I'm a life long local in the banshee's neighborhood in Dorchester. I use to go to the spot when it was called "Vaughn's" and can tell you the Banshee is 180* from then. If you're looking for a good place for a bite during THE DAY, this is a great spot and very reasonably priced. If you go there at night, expect a young, VERY Irish (as in right of the boat Irish) crowd that works itself into a frenzy to the sounds of electric rave music. If you're over 30 and don't want to put up with the newly arrived and early to mid 20's crowd avoid this place at night. Weekend nights are routinely punctuated by drunken Irish guys (and girls) puking, fighting, groping and generally acting like complete fools.
(4)

Dear GOD! The fries alone are reason enough to eat here. Ok. The rest of the menu is pretty fantastic too. Nothing fancy, but if you find yourself in a dark Dorchester pub, I doubt you're looking for fancy anyway.
(4)
Allen G.
The only proper place to watch football or rugby I've discovered. You can leave with breakfast, a pint and a match for about ten dollars. They also cater to those looking to watch Gaelic football or hurling. Probably not the best bet for the English as the usual crowd is a mixed variety of Irish, Welsh and Canadian, but the typical Brit or anglophile looking to play weekend hooligan is probably less inclined to be in Dorchester anyway making this somewhat of a moot point.

OMG! Came here for dinner... DELISH! Friend and I ordered the special that they had advertised on their board... $10 for house salad, pork chops, mashed potato fritter balls, broccoli, and chocolate mouse cake! Seriously, so much food and for only $10 that is a steal! In addition to the yummy eats, there was a whole group of people playing irish style music live just a few booths away. I don't know if The Banshee asks them to come in and play, or if it's just a little pick up group... but I'll tell you one thing - they were damn good and really gave The Banshee an ambiance that a lot of Irish pubs in Boston are lacking.

This is bar far the best and cheapest place the earn (or nurse) a hangover! the staff are fantastic, the Guinness is good. And the Banshee breakfast sandwich - egg, irish bacon, sausage, white and black pudding all served up on a bread and cheese with homefries, for only $6!!! unbelieveable, and if you are like me, and love to keep up with Rugby and Soccer from England/Ireland, they show it free! only once have I had to pay - and that was because it was the FA cup final! Excellent

Great place to catch a soccer game. The breakfast is not the attraction, but it delivers and I've always been happy with what I order. I'm not such a fan of their DJ nights however, and for a bar in Dorchester, the beer's not cheap (not overly expensive either). They do pour a good pint of Guiness.

DISAPPOINTED!! I used to love this place. However, today my friends and I went to have dinner, and after we were done, we split the bill. So the bar tender just looked at us and said "I hate the way you're paying." Then, I tried to tell another employee at the bar that we had felt uncomfortable with the guy's comment. Instead of receiving an apology, we got the worst insults EVER. The guy called us "Yuppies" and even yielded at us "FUCK YOU!" in front of the other customers. He told us we should be thankful because we were getting a service after a horrible storm, and asked us "to get the fuck out" of there.. I never expected that to happen there. I would NOT recommend this place to ANYBODY. If they are not happy working there, they should quit. I'm wondering if the manager or owner are aware of this situation. It's very sad that this happened considering that they have really good food and the place is cozy. Very SAD!! :(

No Stars. It used to be sort of "nice" about 10 years ago, then just got plain high on itself. I don't understand who thinks "The booze is relativity cheap." there. Last time I went in, One white russian (no top shelf specified, so I got the cheap stuff) and ONE pint of beer (because I'm American, I was served in a 16oz glass, while everyone else had 20oz glasses) cost nearly $12. That is NOT reasonable. Other put offs: Went there for breakfast one morning and the guy at the door tried to hit me up for a cover charge thinking I wanted to watch some game. The music and the TVs are WAY TOO FOOKIN LOUD. With what they charge for drinks now I'm surprised they haven't priced themselves out of the market. There must be a lot of work still available to the "undocumented."

All around great Irish bar -- and I mean actually Irish; not "let's stick a bunch of shamrocks everywhere and hope people believe it" kind of Irish. The food is solid pub fare. They also have tons of TVs so you can watch whatever sporting event is on, from rugby to football (soccer) to baseball and yes even hurling. The service is great and while I've never gone during typical bar hours the bouncer has always been friendly when I've walked by the Banshee on the way to my boyfriend's house.

I really wanted to like this place. While the Guinness they pour is excellent, the cold reception we received from the bouncers/bar tenders was a shame. Too bad I'll never be going back...but I doubt they even care. I'll stick with the other Irish pubs in the city. James' Gate will be happy for my business.

It's a shame to have to rate a pub in Dorchester so highly, but the Banshee is absolutely my favorite place to get Shepherd's Pie, and one of my favorite spots in the Boston area. It's a few blocks from the T, and the neighborhood can be somewhat scary to walk (especially at night), but if you mind your own business, you should be left alone. If you drive, though, I think parking in this area would be a problem. The Banshee has several TV's on which they play any current sporting event. They have plenty of bar seating, several tables and booths in the main room, and additional seating upstairs. Everything that I've tried on the menu is tasty, but I keep going back for the Shepherd's Pie. I can't find anyplace in the Boston area to beat it. Prices are reasonable, and the daily specials are all great and very cheap. Drinks are reasonably priced, the bar staff is knowledgeable... it's a good place inside, and has a very friendly neighborhood bar sort of feel. As an added bonus, chances are good of running into some very Irish guys in there at any given time which gives you an opportunity to listen to their cute accents whilst sipping your favorite cocktail... what can be better?

I love the fact that this place is so close to my place. I'm giving it 4 stars for pseudo-shadiness of walking here alone, but muchos stars for the live Irish sessions on Sunday & Thursday....awesome! They make you wish you could sing or play an instrument and join in the fun. Proof positive that Dorchester can be a great place to live.

The Banshee is the best Irish Bar in Boston. Saturday nights in the summer are hands down the most fun times ever. Well, maybe actually Sunday nights are even better. And the Monday Club full of everyone from the weekend that is too hungover to go to work.

The best place to watch football (aka "soccer) around. Sure, when I wanted to watch Japan play in the World Cup at 11am we watched it upstairs while the downstairs was packed for the Gaelic Football game that they import via satellite... but breakfast was great and the staff was very friendly and helpful. and Irish.

great place. the food here is great. burgers? why yes thank you. i'll have two and pay you next tuesday. i've been going here for years. i liked the place soo much i moved to dot so that i can frequent this place more frequently. i also like that they got rid of that silly golf game and put in a bean bag tossing arcade game. classic.

Seems to be a popular Umass Boston hangout, and that is fine with me. Went there after a lacrosse game and the crowd was great. Bartenders were friendly and the Sox game was on. What more could I want? I really liked this place. It was dark and decorated in Irish flair. Watched a few Gaelic games and had some great conversation with some locals. Loved it!

Well like the rest of the people who gave this place one star. (Mostly minorities) I have to agree with them. I have been to this bar twice and and only went the second time cause i said to o my self there is noway that place could be that bad, uncomfortable and racist a second time could it? WELLL I WAS WRONG!!!! I am a well educated black man that lives right around the corner from this bar. i decided to just go in and get a beer. As soon as i sat down at the bar i got a stare as if i should just turn around and leave. Nobody asked me if i wanted a a drink at all. i had to go out of my way and wave my arm and say "Hi! can i order a beer?" And with a cold look on his face he finally got me one. It was packed with 90% irish/caucasin people. Fair to say i drank and left. Second time i went in there a friend of mines who is also black wanted to check the place out. i warned him of my previous expierence but he didnt want to listen. He went inside and i walked to my car because i forgot something. when i came back 10 minutes later he still didnt have a drink!!!! Long story short...If ur not white do not go too this bar!!! smh

The banshee is my neighborhood bar, definitely the place I go when I want to go "out', but don't feel like going more than two blocks from my house. The food is relatively tasty, for bar food (they also have a pretty decadent Irish breakfast), and one time we ordered a pizza to the bar after the kitchen was closed (though, at that point, we had ingested far too many drinks and I'm not sure that was neccesarily a kosher thing to do). The little patio in the back is a pretty refuge on a busy night or if you are a smoker, and they've got lots of tvs if that's your thing (or if you're waiting for someone and want to keep busy). I prefer going on weekdays, when it's slower and more mellow. They lose a star based on a comibination of the following: the barely legal drunk foreign dude who tried to make out with my very unwilling friend one time, the really, really, unneccesarily loud music on the weekends (though, the music itself is shockingly good-anything from guilty pleasure pop to obscure new wave), and the closing of the kind of creepy, hot upstairs pool table area...I really liked it up there! I probably would rarely come here if I didn't live right down the street, but that's no reflection on the place itself. It's just not really a "destination" kind of bar.

Great Irish pub. Great place to hang out, watch some soccer games, drink a few pints, eat some good food. Very Irish crowd, authentic off the boat Irish. It's a locals spot but friendly and not stand-offish. The place gets pretty crazy after 11:00pm. The DJ is my only complaint, he plays top 40 dance music, but nothing inventive and a bit too loud at times. But the crowd usually gets into it. Also this is the only bar I consistently see guys dance on the bar. This is definitely not a gay bar but the guys get really drunk and rowdy in a fun way.

all i have to say is being an irish kid from an irish neighborhood you will not find a better atmosphere where if all you want to do is have a good time and just hang with the gang it is at this pub.

pretty lively crowd when I came here, my ass was groped and I witnessed two bar fights, was caught in the middle of one.

Eh, errrrmmm, meh. That's not fair, it's really more of a Huhh than a meh. I went in last night for the first time with no expectations other than the reviews I had read on here which led me to believe that this spot was going to be 1) pretty OK 2) offering some decent food 3) going to have lots of TV's on. Honestly, that's actually a lot to ask for so I was really just praying for some decent grub. So, the place is dark and looks like a great spot to bring a good size group for pints and partying. I settled up to the bar and my first observation was that the beer selection was pretty dim, they had IPA, Guinness, Stella and Magners but nothing out of the ordinary - can't complain though, the Stella was really fresh. The bartenders were really funny and they were right up front that the credit card machine was broken - they pointed to the ATM in the back of the bar - OK, I didn't want to pay an extra two bucks but I will deal with it. The tellies, ah yes there are many and they were all playing football (read soccer) when we walked in, I think they noticed that we were yanks though and they put on some basketball for our viewing pleasure. Then came the food. Drum roll..........not so good. The wife got a burger with mushrooms and it came with marinated button mushrooms on top of the burger - how they heck are you supposed to eat that? I got a lamb entree that was supposed to come with a mint-whiskey gravy. Well, it could have been pot roast, it might have been lamb, it was probably cooked through but was cold and whatever gravy was on it was just brown sauce. There in lies the Huhhh. I don't think I will eat here again other than maybe an appetizer but I will be back for pints based on that one very fresh Stella.

On Dorchester Ave there are many Irish Pubs, so for one to stand out is a good thing. The atmosphere is friendly and the food is very good. Sometimes you just need a good irish pub and thats what this is.

(4)Peter D.

(4)Judith M.

(4)Alexandra M.
(2)Tasty S.
(3)Jake R.
(5)G S.
(1)Beth G.
Quaint little Irish Pub with great atmosphere and great food! You must try the baked Mac & Cheese - so delicious, and enough for 2+ people!
(5)Jesse S.
(1)Chris P.
Cool bar with good intentions but very slow service. Feel like they take care of their usual a over any new customers. Not very friendly.
(2)Tunisia M.
(1)Kyle M.
(1)Thena H.
(1)Ryan L.

(5)Kevin G.
This place is awesome, great draft selection, friendly bartenders: cute too. Thanks for being great banshee!
(5)Hayley M.
Amazing staff, amazing food, definitely get the curry sauce on the side of anything, it's fantastic. We've come here several times to watch Everton games and we love this little place.
(5)Monique S.
(3)Duncan M.
(4)Zachary D.
I love this place. Perfect dark wood and low light but enough to see your (wicked good) food and even read if you want to. Great for watching games or the news. Get the black and gold...guinness with cider.
(4)Andrew S.
(2)M B.
I am currently here and we ordered food before the soccer game started. The game is currently in the 69th minute and we still don't have food. Including halftime it has been well over an hour. This is ridiculous. Don't come here.
(1)C M.
(4)Patrick T.
There's a comedy group that practices up stairs on Sunday nights. A funny compliment to the great food n beer. This review has been a long time coming, but I am trying to do this a little more. This place is straight fun, you'll end up talking to some one with an accent.
(5)Mariel T.
(3)Rosalie F.
(4)Trish H.
(1)StratSwede S.
(3)Susan R.
(4)Scott M.
(4)Alex W.
(5)Erin B.

Update: I'm still hitting this place on the regular. I've probably spent a small countries GNP in here since the last review.

(3)Laura Y.
(4)Mrs. G.
(5)Alyca S.

(4)Dan G.
(5)David K.
Nice (European) Football Bar in Dorchester. Good draft selection, and food looks good, but have not had it yet. Brunch, Lunch, and Dinner menus.
(5)Greg J.
The Banshee has a great atmosphere and friendly waitstaff. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. A good selection of imported beers. Try the Carlsberg. This is the place to go if you find yourself near Upham's.
(5)Jef S.
(4)Leah E.

(3)Nelson C.
Can we get a light or two turned on? Also not a huge fan of there beer selection. The bar food is good and the prices are cheap though!
(3)Garrett Q.
This place has the best Irish pub food in the Greater Boston Area. Phenomenal stuff.
(5)Tom H.
(4)Josie G.
(4)Shannon H.
(4)Christian L.
Has Dorchester's ONLY Open Mic comedy night. It's Great and run very professionally by local comedian Dave Kennedy. You have to check it out on SUNDAY nights.
(5)Cinful B.
The place looked decent for a bar. The food was pretty good. Our server seem bothered that she had to serve us. There were six of us so we spent quite a bit of money and still left a good tip. A patron was saying racial obscenities some of them lacked class.. thanks anyways but I doubt we will return.
(2)Kamil K.
(4)Christopher C.
(5)Yolanda R.
Just stopped in after work and new to the area, not to mention I won't be doing a lot of cooking since I'm flying solo. Had bangers and mash tasty enough to return and plenty enough to take home for tomorrow's late nite.
(4)Victoria J.
(4)Aga K.
Banshee is a local fave when it comes to staying local and avoiding downtown scene. I have been there with group of friend at least 10 times by now and DJ is always pumping the hottest hits. it gets a bit overcrowded which occasionaly causes drama. But in general its a fun place!
(4)Katia M.
Finally ate here, and I have to say, I was totally impressed by brunch. A simple menu, but the omelet was fluffy, instead of basically being "veggie scrambled eggs" like many places, and the home fries were solid. Good time, easy to find a seat unlike at some other places in the area.
(4)Joe G.
(4)A J.
(2)Dave M.
(4)Angelina C.
(4)Kurt M.
French fries = win although as a vegetarian there's not a lot else for me on the menu. It's nice to go someplace in my neighborhood and hear people with Irish accents. It's close and I've learned that Sun-Thurs are good nights to go. Not too crazy.
(4)Cherie C.
(4)Cecilia L.
(4)Jordan C.
Best bar in boston, very respectful establishment in the neighborhood, anyone under 30 living in the area will have only good things to say about the faces here, drink pricing and music!
(5)Adam A.
Best fries...great prices...great pub fare.
(5)Andy C.
Hipster bar with overpriced drinks for the college kids in the area. The soccer games that they have on are cool for those of us that care, but the patrons it attracts, not-so-much. Decent selection of beers, nothing great. Good nachos at a fair price. Nothing worth writing home about, however.
(3)J S.
(5)Rob C.

Just went there for my first time last night and it was really good. The buffalo wings were awesome and I am a huge wing fan and rarely find exceptional buffalo wings but they were tender, cripsy, and delicious. Steak and the mashed were bomb too and really friendly staff and crowd. Just a real Irish pub, and I can walk to it in a minute so I'm probably going to become a regular now lol.

great food, great time. best burger in boston hands down. plus rugby on the weekends.

I've only been here twice, but only remember it once. My friends seem to really like this place and I know many people who go here regularly. I really liked it, the drinks are cheap, it's a good crowd and there is dancing. I would defiantly like to come here more often.

This is a great Irish bar! I haven't been on a weekend yet, but both times I've gone have been fun. They play great music and have a good selection on tap.

Dear GOD! The fries alone are reason enough to eat here. Ok. The rest of the menu is pretty fantastic too. Nothing fancy, but if you find yourself in a dark Dorchester pub, I doubt you're looking for fancy anyway.

Solid Irish bar. Great fish n chips.
(4)Brandon H.
Used to live down the street from here. They had great food (reasonably priced) and a wonderful Irish atmosphere (think expat, not manufactured). Would recommend.
(5)Eric K.

(4)Bill B.

(5)Melissa L.
(4)Elizabeth S.
The Banshee is the best Irish Bar in Boston. Saturday nights in the summer are hands down the most fun times ever. Well, maybe actually Sunday nights are even better. And the Monday Club full of everyone from the weekend that is too hungover to go to work.
(5)Erin H.

(4)Daniel K.
pretty lively crowd when I came here, my ass was groped and I witnessed two bar fights, was caught in the middle of one.
