We came here after sweating all day in Ptown, hungry and tired, and were not disappointed! The baked stuffed lobster was the best I had during my weeklong stay on the Cape. We also had the seafood sampler app and it was outstanding - highly recommend both. The crowd and atmosphere was a great balance of casual and dressy casual, so we didn't feel out of place having been in the hot sun all day.

The flourless chocolate torte, lemon chicken linguine, and sweet potato dippers are simply the best!

Great place to eat, flavor flavor flavor. From start to finish, from the bread to the desert. I went there, with a party of 6. Everyone was happy with what they got. My brother in-law had the lobster Mac & cheese and loved the large pieces of lobster. I had the duck Confit, the flavors all worked together. I'm still thinking about it. (Yum) The wife had salmon risotto and eat every bit. Make reservations like we did or enjoy the wait. But if you do it's wroth the wait.

I was on the Cape for our twenty-something annual girl's weekend, and this was our big dinner out night. We weren't able to make a reservation, but the wait on the porch with a perfect dirty martini was the start to a fabulous evening. I tried oysters for the first time, was skeptical of the vinegrette but tried it on the last one, yum! The star of the night was the Cuban Short Ribs. I don't know who is in the kitchen at Scargo but I thought I was in Miami for dinner. Ribs were fork tender, black beans well seasoned with a good kick. I was looking forward to the fried yucca and it was waffle cut so really just tasted like stale potato chips. But that in no way ruined this happy meal. I would go back tonight and order the very same thing if we were staying.

Nice place, but too formal for Cape Cod IMO. I am much more into a casual vibe when on the Cape. We stopped in for lunch and I was really craving a lobster roll...which they do not have on the menu (at least on that day) which was a bit of a surprise and disappointing. I wanted to go elsewhere but hubby was hungry. Lunch cost $50+ for a Ham & Cheese Baguette (bread was awesome) and a Cod entree, a Sea breeze and a beer. Minor thing but weird...When I tasted the Sea Breeze realized it was a Bay Breeze (pineapple/Cran), when I politely pointed out that I ordered a Sea Breeze with Grapefruit/Cran, the server said 'that's a Bay Breeze' (huh?). Not sure if she thought I said Bay Breeze in the first place, or if she thought a Sea Breeze was a Bay breeze, in any case it was a strange interchange, I later clarified (nicely) that FYI..a sea breeze has grapefruit not pineapple juice, she said 'yes I know' or something like that and I got that feeling like 'say anything to make the crazy lady happy', On a side note I DID have a fantastic lobster roll at Brax Landing that evening, see my review. Bottom line, this is a very nice restaurant if you are looking for a higher end dining experience on the Cape.

Great food and service! Martinis are great, baked oyster app is superb. Service is 4 out of 5 at the bar just for the fact I saw staff took time talking with each other when few guests at the bar, including us, needed another round of drinks or place an order for the meal. Otherwise, attitude is great, and we will be coming back many times. Thank you for being there!

Food is great, pork chops, steak Gorgonzola, scallops, all fantastic! Drinks were good, service was timely. Enjoyed ourselves here.

We have eaten here for the last 3 yrs on our anniversary in June. It is always excellent, we call ahead get reservations, servers are friendly and professional. Food is always excellent. Would highly recommend this for a special dinner.

Amazing food and service. Professional culinary staff whose creations are innovative and delicious. Need to return many times to check out their menu items. Chicken and sausage rigatoni to die for, Nepalese lamb stew tonight. What's really amazing is the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff, great people who work so well as a team to care for customers!

We love Scargo Cafe. This place has great service and great food. Actors from plays at the Cape Playhouse have drinks here after their performances. Try the potato dippers and the chocolate cake. Delicious!

This place was fine, but not exceptional. Maybe I should have ordered seafood to see what all the excitement over this place was about. I came here a few days ago on my brief trip up to the cape. We didn't have to wait for a table if we didn't mind sitting at a high top, which was fine. Our server was friendly and pretty knowledgeable about the menu. I ordered the filet that comes in a hazelnut sauce with a coffee rub. It sounded better than it was executed, but the potato cakes were delicious. I ordered the steak medium rare but it came out medium. It wasn't incredibly expensive for filet or anything, and it wasn't a steakhouse, so meh. The steak was still tender, but it would have been better cooked to the specifications I had requested. Overall the prices actually seemed pretty reasonable. The dish said it came with mushrooms, but they were sort of lacking and with the hazelnut sauce, the flavors just seemed kind of...off? I also took a bite of the lobster mac and cheese. It was good, but not the best lobster mac and cheese I've ever had. The risotto with lobster and peas was also good, but nothing stood out about it too much. The texture of the risotto seemed a bit off but the flavor was nice, and I appreciated the fact that they incorporated peas into the risotto base itself. It was a nice touch. Overall, it wasn't bad but if I went back, I'd probably stick to a seafood dish because I have a feeling that's more of what they specialize in. The scallops looked like they would be worth a shot.

I stopped in at 1:00 p.m.today (Monday 8/24) to make a reservation for this evening at 6:00 p.m. I was told that no tables were available but I could return this evening since they withhold half of the tables for walk-ins. I stopped IN PERSON during a RAIN STORM and was told that. I am a local and feel that I was treated poorly. If you want to cater to the vacation crowd good luck! You had $$$$ in front of you and turned it away. Any response from the owner or manager? I hope you didn't have a single walk in tonight. Maybe they will come in February! (Like the locals will!) My wife and I have dined many times at Scargo Cafe. The dining experience here is always predictable and delicious starting with the warm bread at the beginning. My wife decided on the Shrimp Scampi with linguine substituted for the polenta. Six large shrimp with a tasty but not overpowering sauce. I had the Lemon Parmesan Chicken sans the artichoke and spinach. A generous portion of lightly browned tenders with a delicious sauce was almost perfect. I suggested panchetta be added to the dish to make it perfect. Our server, Chelsea, was pleasant, efficient, and accommodating as usual. Prices: Reasonable Food: Delicious Portion size: Very good Service: Excellent Additionally I have never heard a bunch of wailing cherubs (at least that's what their parents think they are) ruining a pleasant dining experience. A tip: arrive early in season!

Every year we come to the cape we have a list of restaurants we must go to before we leave and then another list of places we would like to go to, but don't need to. Scargo cafe used to be on the latter list but it is now a must visit! What made me change my mind? One entree. The duck confit salad. This is my new all time favorite salad and I absolutely recommend it. I love duck but that wasn't even my favorite part. That mustard dressing mixed with the Gorgonzola, pecans, spinach and leads was perfect and I must learn how to make a similar one! Another dish i used to always get was the seafood strudel which is delicious but very rich. I did not enjoy the filets with arabica rub, the filet was perfect but I did not like the coffee component and I am a huge coffee fan. I also love that they have three salad size options: entree, side salad and a tiny little salad which I prefer to the side salad, so I don't get too full! Their clam chowder was also delicious and you can tell they made it in house!

Everything is so delicious I wish there was more of it. Best lunch spot we found so far in the cape 4 days in. The hostess was very rude about our dog staying outside, but the waitress Cathy was warm and friendly!

Went to the bar last night for some drinks and some apps. I wouldnt say I would not come back but I was unimpressed. Bartenders seem to not know what their guests needs should be and actually when they look around the bar it appears to be they dont see empty glasses or people waiting to order. When we finally did order my wife got some oysters and a beet salad I believe, I got the shrimp martini and the tuna martini. Ehhhhh.....tuna seemed grainy like it was still frozen, and really not creative at all for $15, salad looked ok and oysters were fresh although for $15 again, really? scargo? The one thing that really bothered me was the shrimp in the shrimp martini were not the same sizes!!!! so $13 for ten shrimp is not a bad deal, but some were realy small and some bigger????? I have a feeling there is a kitchen scam happenening and they think nobody will notice. Loved the fire, service and food were mediocre...wont be back.

Everything on the menu was, in fact, delicious. We started with the sweet potato dippers, the oysters scargo and a shrimp cocktail. Shrimp cocktail was normal. The sweet potato dippers were great and the oysters were fabulous! Next, we moved on to the Mongolian Pork Chop and the Seafood Strudel which were both out of this world. As if that weren't already enough to stuff ourselves half to death, we decided the food has been too good not to order dessert, so we did. I had the grape nut pudding and my friend had the cheesecake. They were both great, but if you're already full, I recommend that you go with the pudding as it's light and not too much for your already full stomach.

i recently had an okay late lunch here. i was out traveling with a colleague and, done with our work for the day, we decided to pop in to fuel up for our long drive back to the office. the look of the place is very handsome, dark wood, old-school new england. it being around 3:30, we were seated in what was probably the only remaining lunch server's section, which was an awkward banquette of people all seated too close to one another. big pet peeve of mine, in a restaurant that, even on just the bar side of things, had more option than this banquette. to start, we got an order of their duck wings which were billed as tossed in a "spicy korean bbq sauce." the wings themselves were tough, and the meat was difficult (and embarassing...) to get off the bone. there was entirely too much sauce, and nothing about it was spicy. it was more like a glorified mix of ketchup mixed with bottled bbq sauce. there were a disappointment. they were served with a bleu cheese (and dill...?) dipping sauce, which was really good, however- it was served in a vessel that was too small for easily dipping the duck wings (which are larger than chicken wings). so the sauce was good, but difficult to use. we then each had a cup of the new england clam chowder, which was much more successful. it was clearly homemade, and had great clam and cream flavor, without being overly salty. the potatoes were cooked so well they were melt in your mouth. for our entrees, my colleague ordered the lobster roll which is accompanied by cole slaw and french fries. the roll did have an good amount of lobster but at $24, was overpriced. (note: the online menu states the price is $21.) her cole slaw looked interesting- not your standard cabbage and carrot; had i known that, i might have ordered a side, but it's not described anywhere on the menu so i didn't know it was anything different or special. i ordered a reuben which was appropriately stuffed with corned beef. i liked that the russian dressing came on the side, but i didn't like how greasy the bread was. it was so slathered with butter that it couldn't stand up to the meaty interior, which provided me with another rather messy course. i opted to substitute sweet potato fries for the regular ones that came with it, and those were a real star. more like thick, crinkle-cut, semi-crispy chips, they were divine. i highly recommend upgrading to those for $1 more. our server was excellent: prompt, efficient, accurate, and friendly. since this would be such a drive for me (over 2 hours), it's not somewhere i would likely stop again. but, if you live closer, it seems like the kind of place that does some things really well, and others, not so much. also, it's pretty pricey for dinner, so i would stick for lunch, especially if what you order turns out not to be exactly what you were expecting.

I have been to Scargo's almost every vacation on the Cape. This is the first time I have been disappointed by the food and service. The shrimp in my companion's salad was overdone. She also got a banana muffin on the side of her gluten free meal. My soup and salad combo was fine, but nothing spectacular. Service was slow even though they weren't busy.

WOW. Scargo Cafe has totally come up in the world since I last went here about 10 years ago. Back then, it really lacked in atmosphere and food quality - after a visit or two, I never went back. Fast forward to 2015. The interior has been thoughtfully redone into really nice spaces so that feels intimate yet not isolating. The bar has been moved to the back and was bustling.. the noise was contained so it didn't drown out the adjoining dining rooms and nooks. Very very cool. The food... it's superb. The lamb chops were meaty and generous and came out with hot piped mashed potatoes (hard to do as they tend to cool quickly so that's a feat in itself!) and crisply done asparagus. The cocktails were icy cold and the wine with our meal was a generous pour. Service was attentive, prompt and friendly without being obsequious. This was my second visit over the past six months; both times were equally as good. Hats off to a restaurant that has reinvented itself. (And by the way.. random caveat....they are really really kind to their elderly clientele, I witnessed several random acts of kindness by the wait staff and hostesses. )

The food was overall excellent. We went with seven people, so I got to try everything. And they split the checks without complaint! We started our night on the outdoor deck with apps and drinks. Bloody Marys were good, but ask for extra spice! Crantucket lemonade was refreshing, probably best drink. The shrimp cocktail wasn't "shrimpy", if you understand what that means. Didn't try the oysters myself, but my friend looked like she was in heaven. When we finally got in for entrees, I ordered the Bass - it was good. Salmon looked better! Don't order the halibut... No taste. The group consensus was that the Prime Sirloin Gorgonzola was the best entree, the tuna martini best app (best food on the menu). Creme brûlée was excellent. Dinging a star because of the price... I spent around $70 on myself. Also, service took forever! Have to agree with patron below - our server didn't seem to expect us to give her a nice tip, so she was extra slow. It was a 3 hour affair, but nice enough ambience and we were with good friends, so it was ok!

This is a great place. Found it on yelp and decided to try it out, and I'm glad I did! Yelp had a check in offer for sweet potato chips so I started with those. They come in a huge basket so they're def good for sharing. For an entree I had the shrimp scampi with baked polenta. Very delicious and the portion size was huge. My only complaint is that the polenta (although very good) was almost of a custard/tofu consistency rather than the yummy gritty consistency I'm used to. The bartenders were very nice and helpful with choosing menu items. The atmosphere is nicer-casual with a good mix of people throughout the place. Would love to come back and try it again!

We live here so Scargo is a place we frequent during the off season. Brought friends with us the other night and it wasn't great. My husband had Halibut that was 2" x 3" and about an inch thick. Not exaggerating. It was puny. I'm sure they must weigh it. I had lobster mac and cheese. It had 3 small claws on top and very little lobster meat in the dish. The mac itself was swimming in the sauce. It was more like an alfredo dish. So disappointed in you Scargo Cafe! Maybe it's for tourists in the summer. Never see them again. On a side note, if you're ever up in Easton, Mass go to Maguires Pub for lobster mac and cheese. By far the best I've ever had. Portions are generous enough to take some home!!

A real gem on Cape Cod. Went for dinner around 7:45pm on a Saturday night without reservations. We were quoted an hour wait, and told that we could sit on the patio and have a drink as we waited if we liked (which we did). Most of their beers are served in 22-25 oz. bottles, and reasonably priced for some of the great options they had. I got the Unibroue La Fin Du Monde, which was excellent; my companion had the Berkshire Brewing Company's Lost Sailor IPA, which was also very good (and a steal at $8 for the bottle!). After about an hour our pager rang and we went indoors for dinner, where we shared another bottle of the Fin Du Monde. The service was prompt and attentive, and the bread and butter was excellent (and refilled). For an appetizer we had the stuffed mushrooms, which were plentiful and delicious. For the entree we both got the potato crusted cod over corn chowder - a very unique dish with delicious flavor from the chowder was well as the fish. It was a little heavy on the rosemary for my liking, but that's simply a matter of personal preference, and should not detract from how well the dish was executed. While I was tempted to get the grapenut custard, I simply had no room (I saw it served to multiple tables, so clearly it's quite popular!). Something to savor next time. For the bottle of beer, an appetizer, and two entrees, the total came in at roughly $70 - not bad! Including the two beers on the porch, the tab was still at just under $100. This restaurant is highly recommended for an enjoyable night out in Dennis - relax, have a couple of drinks, and then treat yourself to a wonderful dinner.

What can I even say? After a 7 hour drive from Philadelphia, my boyfriend and I were exhausted and hangry. We decided to go by yelp and try this place out for size. To start, the ambience is breathtaking, with dining in an old colonial style manor. The crowd was pleasant, with a casual dress style. Speaking for gay couples, no one batted an eyelash when we held hands or showed affection. It was very comforting, and warmly inviting. Our waitress, whom seemed to be very busy, never once made us feel rushed. Heather was a delight with humor and grace. We had the sampler, the Asian fish sandwich, the Caprese sandwich, pear martini and the Crantucket lemonade. I have not one negative thing to say about any of it. Everything was flavorful and filling. And to finish, as apparently widely recommended, we had the grapenut custard, which stood true to its fame. I'd never had such an amazing dessert. Heather even brought me the recipe and took the time to explain its history. This was an incredible dining experience and would recommend it to anyone. I'm almost disappointed I had such a great experience at the beginning of our trip. I fear the bar has been raised too high for the remainder of our stay.

From top to bottom, our experience at Scargo Cafe was excellent, right down to that famous Grapenut custard. We made a reservation for a 4:30 dinner on a Saturday. When we arrived, the dining room was empty, but by the time we were finished, every table was occupied. Just a suggestion: make a reservation! This place gets packed! Our server was wonderful, attentive but not overly so, and responsive. We started with specialty cocktails. I had the English 75, which is Hendricks gin with St. Germain liqueur and sparkling wine. This place sure knows how to mix a drink. Next came appetizers: we tried the steak tartare and the edamame hummus. Both were great, and a nice value for the portion. I ordered the lobster and sweet pea risotto, which was excellent. The peas are not just sprinkled throughout, they actually seem to be mashed up into the risotto, giving it a very pea-y flavor. Definitely not recommended for those who think they'll be able to eat around the greenery! My boyfriend enjoyed the bass, a specialty item that night, which was also good... mine was just better :) And we just couldn't leave without having dessert. We ordered the Grapenut custard, and let's just say I now understand its "world fame." A must try. The best part about Scargo is the atmosphere. It really has that colonial Cape Cod feeling, a far cry from the light and airy nautically themed restaurants (lovely, but a dime a dozen in this area if you ask me). Scargo is the place to go for a great dinner experience: food, setting, and all.

Went with my husband, brother, and his wife. Great dinner great company! Only downfall is it took forever for a table to open up, but worth the wait. Great calamari appetizer especially since most fried calamari dishes are more fry than squid.

Had a bit of a wait on a Monday night. Ended up eating in the bar. Food was way better than expected. I was thinking pub food. No way Sam. Good variety and prepared a little different. Awesome quality. Calamari actually tasted like calamari and not what ever was in the fryalator last. The Caprese Chicken Sandwich was PERFECT. I'll have a hard time ordering anything else when I go back.

we had a wonderful dinner at scargo, and immensely enjoyed the food and service, cathy was an excellent waitress - very engaging and sweet, and attentive to our dishes and status throughout the dinner. the fresh bread was served hot right out of the oven, and we started out with 2 orders of the rhode island calamari, a dozen oysters, and the duck wings. the wings were fantastic, with a sweet bbq sauce and very rich flavor since it was duck, not chicken. the calamari was great and we enjoyed the banana peppers sprinkled throughout. i ordered the grilled seabass, but i was able to swap in the sides from another dish (beet risotto and broccolini). the fish was cooked perfectly, and the risotto was so flavorful and managed a balance between thick and light. my husband ordered the lamb, which amounted to about 8 absolutely delicious lollipops, cooked as he had asked. his sister ordered the lobster over pea risotto, which had an incredibly pea-y, excellent flavor. the standout dish were the shortribs, extremely tender and served over a corn succotash. i was very curious about the grapenut custard for dessert, which was very highly touted. our waitress allowed me a sample, and while i thought it was very creamy and sweet, i did not love that the grapenuts were softened. i much appreciated the sample though, but our table decided on the lemon crème brulee and flourless chocolate cake with ice cream. the cake was extremely dense and fudgy, but i think this was the intention and it was very well balanced with the ice cream and whipped cream. the crème brulee was creative with the lemon flavoring, and i did enjoy the tangy, sweeter touch. we thought all of the food was fantastic, and the whole experience was made better with such excellent service. as the night went on, we saw that cathy was quite enjoyed by many other diners and we were happy that she was able to serve us as well. the prices are very moderate, and the portions exactly right.

Great decor! Rustic dark hardwood floors, white trim & molding, comfy sofas and chairs. Cute outdoor space with heat lamps for the colder seasons. Food- seafood strudel was similar to a beef Wellington without the beef of course! A nice pastry package that enveloped scallops, shrimp, and some bits of crab. Scallops served with Japanese panko breadcrumbs, rice and string beans were ok....nothing to write home about. Our server could have been better, more timely with taking our order, given more opinion on what was good on the menu (basically she just said everything was good on the menu), and been around when we were done so we could get the check. We had to look for her to request it.

The building is a house expanded. There is good on site parking and overflow in the evening next door. Inside is a cozy group of rooms and a nice bar with windows and a good mix of high and low seating. I have never eaten outside. Maybe this summer. As usual we had camari Nd it was good. My husband had lamb chops. They were excellent and came with nice green bean. I had the seafood strudel. I would not recommend it. The pastry was leaden and the filling mostly baby shrimp which are on the unsustainable list from Monterey Bay. I also had the green beams. I saved the potatoes for last. If those were not powdered, I don't know what could have happened to them. The worst we have ever had. The bread was good. The waitress extra nice. Wine and beer section is also good.

A rainy Wednesday late afternoon. Sort of off season, at the end of April. 4:55pm. And the parking lot was *packed*. We were meeting some friends who were about a half an hour away from the Scargo Café, the establishment we chose to go before having to attend a ceremony in the evening. The hubby and I thought that perhaps it would be best to put in a "wait" for a seat so there could be a table available for 5:30pm by the time our friends get there. It turns out that was a smart move. While we were waiting at the bar, two people came in 15 minutes later than us and were told it was a 45 minute wait. If it's like this off season, I can only imagine what it's like in the summer (so yes, make a reservation). So was it worth the wait? Well...I had a cosmo while waiting at the bar. After finishing it, I turned to the hubby and said "Jeez, I'm BUZZED"! It was a very potent and tasty drink. Great start! Now, to the food...the four of us split two appetizers. The first was the Baked App Sampler, with stuffed oysters, stuffed mushrooms, garlic shrimp, scallops and artichokes in garlic butter. The four of us were very sorry we didn't get two. Everything in it was delicious. The second app was the Firecracker duck wings, tossed in spicy Korean bbq sauce (but don't worry, they weren't really overly hot spicy...just tasty). Both are great, however, the Baked App Sampler would be my first choice. I can only comment on three of the entrees, since the fourth person didn't mention anything specific about his dish (the scrod). His dish wouldn't have been my first choice on the menu, as there were many other alluring dishes, such as... The Prime Sirloin Homard, which is a grilled prime sirloin, topped with hollandaise sauce and fresh lobster. My friend said his steak was perfectly cooked, and there wasn't one thing about the dish he didn't like. The hubby had Seafood Strudel, with genuine crab, shrimp, and sweet scallops baked in a flaky pastry crust, crowned with Newburg sauce. He thought it was going to be underwhelming due to it's smaller size, but to his surprise, he was full, and raved that the strudel was packed with seafood. I chose the Seafood & Sweet Pea Risotto, which had jumbo shrimp, sea scallops, and lobster meat over sweet pea and parmesan risotto. To die for! Other notes...Interesting beer selections, many that I'd never heard of, but would like to try. Keep in mind that Wednesdays at the Scargo is wine tasting night (from what I understand, a regular thing). You get to try two wines, and if you like one, your server will be happy to pour a glass of which one you liked (and we were happy to have her do that). Speaking of our server, Karen was terrific! She was great with the menu, gave some suggestions, told us a bit about the history of the place (as she's been here for 15+ years), and had a great, pleasant and relaxed demeanor. Their bread? It smelled great! Warm, soft and delicious. I usually never have much bread, if any, at a restaurant,. just so I don't get stuffed before dinner, but when Karen asked us if we wanted more bread when we scarfed down the first basket, all of us, without hesitation, said "Yes, please". Classy décor and atmosphere. Was it fast paced? No, but it certainly wasn't painfully slow. Seriously, why rush? I'm there to relax to have a great time and meal. And that's exactly what we all got. Only one small hiccup; Karen had forgotten the hubby's and my order of New England Clam Chowder. But honestly, I kind of did, too (must've been that Cosmo). And it didn't really matter...because everything else here was SO good, it was easily forgiven and hey, she's human, no harm, no foul. Not having the clam chowder this time (which I'm sure is great) only gives me an opportunity to come back here. Because I know that I will be. Don't let the modest "Café" title fool you - this place is excellent.

Ive been to Scargo in the past with good experience but unfortunately my third time tonight was quite disappointing - from several angles. I ordered the appetizer Oysters on the half shell (6). One was definitely bad. I brought it to the attention of our waitress, Deb, who apologized (not her fault), however, proper protocol should have been to a) replace the 'bad' oyster with another one ; b) take off the value of that oyster or comp for it with something else, c) bring it to the attention of the manager (who should have come over to the table aka good PR). None of the above happened. Second was getting the bill (full charge for the bad oyster) AND a wrong charge for the drink I ordered (of course higher). Third, wrong change given (again in their favor, albeit a small several dollar discrepancy). So put it all together and what do you get: Not a good taste (literally & figuratively) in ones mouth!

Overall, a nice evening out with friends. Make sure you have a reservation, we waited over an hour (though it was the weekend and rush dinner time) but were happy to have a few drinks at the bar. Here was my order (copied directly from the website which is the same as the day we went a few weeks ago) Panko Crusted Scallops sweet sea scallops, flash fried in crunchy Japanese crumbs, with herbed rice 25 Not flash, deep fried. The breading was very think and crunchy - not what I was expecting. I told the waitress that the description should be more clear or they should make the scallops as the description says. Nothing but a "I'm sorry" was offered. Rice was meh. Everyone else's meals were fantastic. I would say 3 1/2 stars but can't get past the deep fried.....

Came on a Saturday in the off-season. Called afternoon of to make reservartion, closest available time was 1 hr from desired time slot - fine. Mentioned it was a special occasion dinner for 4. Initially got seated in backroom with "O" ambience, next to a large and noisy party. Moved to a somewhat better table. Waitress, while friendly, was slow to appear and slower to reappear between courses, etc. Bread basket was served twice, both times with under-baked bread. Apps were fine, 3 entrees were served on beds of cold rice and cold/dry asparagus spears. Fish itself was cooked well. Good beer/cocktail choices.Creme brulees were underwhelming. The service and presentation just felt rushed and a bit sloppy. Went to Wild Goose Tavern in Chatham next evening and had a much better meal and experience there.

Ugh I am in love!!! Favorite food spot on the cape, hands down! My third summer coming here because I just can't resist! The staff here are SO friendly and on point too! MUST try: spinach and artichoke dip, mushroom and goat cheese sandwich, Reuben sandwich (lunch menu), lobster Mac n cheese, Caesar salad, and scallops!!

A casual restaurant with an old-school feel that has lots and lots of gluten free options along with a dedicated menu. The restaurant is bigger than it appears and even has some outdoor seating. Judging from the amount of blue hair in the restaurant you can tell this place has been good for quite some time and has a dedicated following. The gluten free menu has lots of options making this a great dinner option for any Celiacs visiting the Cape. The sweet potato dippers (free with Yelp check-in) were a great start to the meal and could/should easily feed 2 or 3 people (these are not GF). We ordered the GF lobster risotto, which had lots of lobster meat on top of some very green pea risotto. We also ordered the Halibut special, which was a huge piece of perfectly cooked Halibut with a TON of quinoa on the side. Unfortunately the quinoa was incredibly bland as there were no additional flavors added.

I'm a huge fan of this place, and have been for years. They are incredibly nice, the waitstaff is lovely (and they remember you), and the menu is a perfect mix of old school Cape (baked stuff lobster) and new American cuisine (sweet pea risotto with fresh lobster). They take reservations for large parties, but also have a lovely cocktail deck if you want to walk in and wait. Their chowder is a bit too smooth for my taste (I like chunks of clams) but it's my seven-year-old's favorite - she will down the bowl that's, as she says, "as big as my head!" A consistent option in an area that increasingly is losing its restaurants.

Three of us went for lunch on a rainy Sunday to Scargo Cafe. It has a beautiful interior - dark woods , elegant furnishings. We were led to a sun room in the back of the restaurant. This is a small room with about 7 tables, 5 of which were occupied. When we walked in....I felt like I was in a library! Not one person in there was talking. They were all quietly eating, you could hear a pin drop. It was weird as we all felt like we had to whisper and everyone was listening. TIP: do not request to be seated in this area! They have no separate lunch menu but they have a few sandwiches and burgers and salads. The menu, to my knowledge doesn't change much at all. I ordered a Caprese chicken sandwich. This was a good size piece of chicken and mozzarella cheese on a hard crusty roll. It was not much to yelp over - not much taste and the bread wore out my jaw. My husband had an app - spicy duck wings with a BBQ sauce. It's a fairly large app, so you can have this for a lunch as long as you "share" your wife's sweet potato fries! :) They were very tender and meaty and the sauce was tangy and delicious. My mom had the asian fish sandwich - she was smart enough to request a hamburger bun so she didn't get stuck with a hard crusty roll like I did. She enjoyed this fish sandwich but ended up asking for extra sauce that came in a separate little bowel. She had the cole slaw with this and I believe it was ok. The cost was about average for a lunch on 6A.

September 4, 2014 - Extremely Disappointed !!!! Ordered two of the dinner menu additions (striped bass and halibut). Even though the fish was already dead they proceeded to kill it further. Suspect that there may be some Microwave action going on behind the scenes. The manager was incredible and promptly removed the entrees from the bill (please note that the appetizer menu is a relic of the '80's hence none were ordered) and gave us a $10 gift card. Perhaps an off night as we have had better experiences here over the past several years. We left our server a $30 tip just for walking the plates out and back into the kitchen. Personality was less than enthusiastic out of the gate. Your mileage may vary on this "local gem". Restaurant: Beautiful, great bar and welcoming staff !!! Please note that we also were comp'd two desserts 1) Grapenut Custard - Marginal as it was soupy but still love the grape nuts. Perhaps I am missing the allure ........ 2) Flour less Chocolate Cake - Delicious

Geez, wish I read my old review before lunch. Same California Chicken is not so inspired. Gazpacho was diced cucumbers in a cold tomato broth. Seems a bit pretentious for the quality.

Went for dinner while visiting the Cape with my family.... Had duck wings, spinach artichoke dip, calamari and stuffed mushrooms for appetizers. Everyone thought the apps were fantastic and perfectly cooked. I ordered a pretzel burger with lettuce, tomato, and mayo and I enjoyed it because it was fresh and tasty and the fries were great too. I will definitely make another trip to this great restaurant in the future, where the service was great and attentive as well.

My friend and I were craving burgers after a long day at the beach and boy did we pick the perfect place to go. It's a really nice restaurant. Burgers were perfect on a pretzel bun. Fries were delicious. Our waitress was wonderful. Would definitely go back.

This place is hands down excellent. I've never had any issues after many trips and my father goes at least once a month. After other dinner plans falling through this weekend, I decided to give it a try for double date night. None of my friends had been before and they were very impressed! The food was cooked perfect, they handled my allergy without any hesitation, and the server and staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. I will go back here as often as I can! They also had free wifi- a plus for cape cod restaurants. I'd highly recommended it.

While taking a cruise in our Corvette we stopped for a late afternoon lunch. Staff was very friendly. We sat at the bar. Both of us had panko crusted scallops. It came with rice and green beans. Very tasty. I liked the dipping sauce. The bread was also fresh and warm, we enjoyed it. Beverly had a glass of pinot grigio with her dinner, and I had a Hendrick ' s martini. Overall it was a pleasurable new Cape Cod restaurant experience.

We attempted to have dinner at the Sesuit Harbor Cafe, which is known for great lobster rolls, but by the time we got there the kitchen was closed (although they had some pretty lively music in the form of Backstreet Boys on lol). So we retraced our drive back to Scargo Cafe, which looked nice from the outside and has good reviews on Yelp. The ambiance and the interior decor made us think we might have been a bit under-dressed for the restaurant, but their dress code is casual. They started us off with a simple loaf of bread. It didn't look fancy at all, but it was warm and so delicious that my friend ate it all herself. I was saving room for the duck confit that I'd ordered, and it certainly did not disappoint. I had a glass of riesling, which was on the sweet side (my personal preference). The perfect post-beach drink. We also ordered the Artichoke and Spinach Dip. It was creamy and very cheesy, and the chips were super crispy. I had the duck confit. It looks like it's a bit on the healthy side, what with the bed of spinach and the pear slices poking out. But I have to say, this is one of the best dishes I've ever had in my life. The duck was crispy on the outside, fork tender on the inside, and perfectly seasoned. It had just the right amount of crispiness and fattiness, without any of the chewy bits that come with say, a peking duck. The spinach salad was tossed in a sweet mustard dressing , bleu cheese, and pecans. It was the perfect accompaniment to the duck, and balanced everything out. The pear was so sweet and refreshing and cut the saltiness of the duck in a way that made me just want to go on eating. The fried polenta, which I had expected to be the highlight of the dish for me, became just the perfect carb-y side dish. My husband had the Italian Chicken Flatbread. He said it was "not what he had expected", which I now realize probably just meant: "There is mayo on this. Ew." To be fair, I thought it was delicious. It had the usual things you would expect to find on an Italian flatbread: mozzarella, tomato, and basil. The mayo I was referring to was in the form of a garlic aioli, which I happen to love. This dish was a bit on the healthy side, so it's not surprising to me that it wasn't "all that". Thanks to their free wi-fi (there is very little cellphone signal to be found in Dennis), we were able to get a free sweet potato appetizer for checking in on Yelp. My husband enjoyed this immensely, and thought that it made up for the somewhat disappointing flatbread. It was very crispy and very delicious. For me, the star of the night was the duck confit, but apparently certain people from Bon Appetit magazine loved their "World Famous Grapenut Custard" so much that they asked for the recipe. The custard is surrounded by bits of what seems like yellow cake, and the whole experience reminded me of strawberry shortcake, which I LOVE. I did take a look at the recipe later, and realized what I mistook for "cake" was probably grapenut cereal. It's a fantastic dessert overall, and not very heavy. For me the entire meal was great, and even though we were a bit dressed down relative to most of the people there, we were treated with the same amount of courtesy. I would go back in a heartbeat.

We got to the restaurant on a Saturday at 7:55pm and were told it'd be a 45 minute wait and we were fine with that, sat outside, ordered drinks and patiently waited to be seated. We were finally seated after 9pm and seconds later a table of four that got there at least 15 minutes after us were seated also. Then I started noticing that the waitress would go three times to that table and barely looked at us. I don't know what kind of prejudice it was, if it was because we were wearing jeans and not designer clothes or because we were speaking another language (my husband is not fluent in English but we were by no means loud or rude in any way). To make a long story short, not only did they get their food first (we ordered before), but she only came to our table to ask if we were ok after they had already paid-and signed!- their bill. Which then and only then she noticed I wasn't too happy bc I replied "we've been done for a while now". Needless to say she barely got any tips-and I usually tip around 20% or more. Not to mention that by the time the food got to the table, around 9:50, two hours after we got to the restaurant, my stomach was already starting to turn I was so hungry. So if you're not American and don't look like you have money, I'd suggest you go somewhere else, there are much better serviced restaurants on Main St. in Hyannis.

An interesting menu, particularly enjoyed the firecracker duck wings and the rocket and cakes salad. The entres were a little bland (scrod and halibut), though the swordfish was quite good. Staff was very friendly and attentive.

Great night out for a couple or small group. I wouldn't recommend for children but they seemed to accommodate. I tried the black manhattan drink to start which was ok, my wife loved her Cosmo (as she always does). Free sweet potato dipper app with yelp check in was good, they also provide bread. Gorgonzola sirloin was excellent and so was the halibut. Prices are a little high (average $25-$30 an entree) for not being truly high end. Great night out that seems like a can't miss. Make a reservation!

Topnotch restaurant in the dead of winter on the Cape. They had a price fixe menu - two dinners and a bottle of wine for $40. The choices were excellent. My wife got the Salmon with Parmesan risotto and tropical salsa - I got the Seafood Strudel that many have raved about. I'm gonna continue the raving .... outstanding. The Riesling wine was OK - not as full bodied as I'd like but certainly not complaining for this price. Meanwhile Jen, our waitress, did everything right. We got some carrot sticks with blue cheese dressing for our granddaughter (along with her hot dog and fries). Everything was delicious and the service great. There were so many other items on the menu we would try - I wish the place was closer.

Came here for dinner with my girlfriend while on a weekend getaway to the Cape. We are both extremely picky when it comes to restaurants, so we spent probably close to a half hour reading through reviews on Yelp and finally settled on this place. For the record, finding a place on this part of the Cape that serves quality seafood at a reasonable price on plates that are not made of paper is extremely difficult. At any rate, for starters, the ambiance at Scargo is absolutely lovely. I'll admit that I am a bit of a sucker for a cozy, rustic-like atmosphere, but this place truly feels like home. The low light also made this place feel nice and romantic (which is more than I can say for the extremely loud group of what I assume to be middle aged Boston professionals at their second home on the Cape for the weekend, but I digress). As far as food goes, I got a flatbread chicken sandwich with a side of sweet potato fries and she got the lobster mac and cheese. My flatbread chicken was quite good - the chicken quite tender and moist with fresh ingredients accompanying it. Her lobster mac and cheese was slightly above average - certainly nothing to complain about, and I felt there was a reasonable amount of lobster in there for the price, which was nice. She certainly seemed to enjoy it. None of this was the best ever, but certainly above the average. Sweet potato fries were distinctly average. As far as service goes, our waitress was extremely attentive and helpful. My one qualm was that the food may have come out a little too quickly - since it was with my girlfriend and we were spending the weekend together anyway I didn't mind too much, but if this were a first or second date we probably would have appreciated a little more time for talking and catching up, or what have you. Overall, this place is probably a solid 3.5 stars, but I'll round up because 1. I care very deeply about being mathematically accurate, and 2. I am a sucker for the aforementioned ambiance. For what it is worth, upon leaving we got into a car identical to ours two cars away from our actual car without realizing it until the car wouldn't start. Not sure this is relevant to the restaurant, though it may tell you something about the clientele that they leave doors totally unlocked in parking lots :P

We've been to Scargo twice (December 2013 and Memorial Day 2014) and had excellent service and food both visits. Last night a fellow diner had Mongolian pork chop which was big, tender and had a wonderful subtle flavor. Shrimp over polenta was good but not outstanding. I had the scallops which were lightly breaded, fried just right, flavorful and juicy with a delicious dipping sauce. We all had half salads which were very adequate as appetizers. Friendly warm atmosphere and well managed, you won't go wrong with Scargos. Prices are very reasonable. Long wine list.

Stopped in a few nights ago for a late dinner (hadn't been to Scargo in 3-4 years). Arrived around 8:15 and were told the wait was 30 minutes - but only waited about 15 minutes. Love the atmosphere of Scargo - very cozy. The clam chowder was very good - solid B. We also ordered the sweet potato dippers app, which is free with the Yelp app -- but they never showed up. Since we already finished the chowder, I didn't say anything since I knew that we'd explode. For dinner, I had the seafood struddle - wowwww. Inside the pastry were scallops and crabmeat - topped with newburg sauce and 2 shrimp. Ohh so good. My wife had lobster mac and cheese. My son had surf and turf. Both were very good. For dessert we had the grapenut pudding, which was good - and the strawberry marsarpone shortcake which was truly awesome. The service was ok - though she forgot the dippers. I also thought the waitress was a little snooty when my wife asked about two different drinks - and the waitress didn't recommend the one my wife choose. When she asked if my wife liked it - she acted like she was surprised that she did... Regardless - the food was very good and we'll be back.

Superb food, excellent service, great ambiance. But.. the food! I cannot say enough. The seafood turnover? TO DIE FOR!!! But... make a reservation, unless you go off-season. The place is packed from June thru September.. but well worth the wait. Such wonderful food. ( Lobster and sweet pea risotto.... OMG!) And only a few minutes drive from the boardwalk... perfect sunsets. OR... skip directly across the street to the Cape Playhouse or the Cape Cinema. Cinema offers a wonderfully revived art deco theater. Great night(s) out on the Cape, no matter what the season.

We went here while on vacation based on a local's recommendation. It really was excellent. The artichoke dip appetizer was very tasty. My kids shared the lobster Mac and cheese and loved it! The beet salad was also fantastic, a huge dinner sized portion with tangy dressing . My husband had the pork chop which was cooked perfectly, juicy and flavorful. The service was great. Our kids are very small and I was worried we would be glared at for bringing them but the staff was accommodating and very kid friendly and sweet! We would certainly go back!

Update: Had the Tuna Martini tonight, WOW this was outstanding!!!! Seriously, the wait staff here is the best! I had the Potato crusted scrod on chowder. Wasn't sure about it but it was superb! Love having fish not killed with bread crumbs. Highly recommend. Hubby had lamb and loved that too!

Best meal of the long Labor Day weekend. Outstanding Scallops (Panko encrusted and fried); sweet potato app (free by checking in on Yelp) was delicious. Good beer selection, fair prices, and the best Grapenut Custard I have had in decades (does anyone remember when Legal Sea Foods served that as their main dessert?). We ate off hours in the bar - very pleasant, convenient to all the Dennis beaches. Highly recommended.

Went to Scargo Cafe for dinner Saturday evening. Wasn't able to make a reservation (you should try to make one a day or 2 before!) so the wait was about an hour and a half. While you wait you can sit on the deck and get drinks and some apps though. I got the Tuna Martini which was a martini glass filled with sashimi tuna, honey soy marinade, seaweed salad and sriracha & wasabi cream sauce, it was AMAZING! If you like sushi this is a must appetizer. Best appetizer on the menu! Once we got our table we ordered a bunch of entrees, I really wanted to get seafood since I'm out at the Cape but I couldn't pass up the Prime Sirloin Gorgonzola... It turned out to be amazing and a crowd favorite among our large group! The glazed salmon was delicious but on the sweeter side and the Parmesan risotto was a little creamier than I prefer but still delicious. The grilled striped bass was pretty tasty but a little dry. The Seared Halibot I was not a fan of, the coconut curry seasoning wasn't very strong and the Halibot was a little bland. The Filet Arabica Duo was great as the coffee rub and hazelnut sauce create a subtle yet decadent flavor. The Prime Sirloin Gorgonzola had such an amazing and savory flavor and was cooked perfectly. The Gorgonzola butter added a perfect touch to the great cut of beef. The Yukon potatoes are buttery and smooth and the sauce was awesome. Aside from the wait for a table, the service was a little slow but the food made up for it for me. It's a little pricey but our group was very satisfied.

We are staying in a new town on the cape this year and have a whole new bunch of restaurants to try. After consulting Yelp we agreed on Scargo Cafe for my birthday dinner. We love good food but didn't want too fancy. It was a great pick and left with the agreement that we would return-soon. I wish I got the name of our server-she was terrific. Nice and friendly but not overly-just right. The food was excellent. Starting with the warm bread to the dessert. We tried the calm chowder and the spinach salad to start-we agreed they were both delicious. My boy friend had swordfish which I don't eat but he ate every bit of it. I had the scampi polenta. I love shrimp and grits and this sounded like an interesting take on the southern staple. It was perfect-creamy polenta with shrimp scampi- I would order it again. We asked about the grape nut custard instantly giving away the fact that we are "not from around here"-well we tried it and now will be on a grapenut custard quest. It was a great meal in a nice setting

I had scallops that tasted like ammonia. They had a nice dipping sauce that accompanied the scallops, however I new the scallops were probably not fresh. The waitress did ask how our meal was initially, but I wasn't sure if I was wrong. I didn't say anything. I tried another one and it also tasted like ammonia. I have had enough amazingly tasting scallops to know how they should taste, sweet, fresh, and yummy! These were not this way. I guess I doubted myself because we are on Cape Cod where the fish I've had at other restaurants has been fresh. The waitress took my dish and noticed I didn't eat my meal, she said you didn't like it. I said No. She didn't ask me why. She just took the plate and said I wish you had told me sooner. Would you like a free dessert? No...thank you! Then she gave us the check for the full price of my bad meal. A manager never came over to speak to us! They obviously don't care why the customer doesn't like their meal. We would never go back, better restaurants with better customer service!

This is an average of a 4 for food (probably not best of cape, but close to as good as I gets anywhere mud cape near the water, think aging supper club with lobster) and zero for service. We were seated promptly and our drink order taken, drinks arrived and our order was taken. Our server put our order into the computer (steak salad, chowder, chicken sandwich, lobster mac and cheese and a garden salad), and then came back to the next two tables seated after us and took their orders. When one of the other table's food came first I thought it must be because they ordered a couple of flatbreads. Then the other table's food came and it was more complex. Then the appetizers for a third table arrived that was seated long after us. Our server made a point of not making eye contact as she walked back and forth and I had to call out to get a second beer. You might be wondering what was going on: well we are not minorities (I noticed them in a back room by themselves), but we have three children, who we're only children in the room we were seated in. It seemed as though our server wasn't expecting a tip, or had some bad experiences in the past. We asked her not to stage but just to bring food as it was ready: nope, came all at once. And yes, some was extra heat lamp baked. She asked us if she got it right (she did) but not if we were happy or needed anything else. At that point, she had made her statement. We left a note for management and zero tip, fulfilling her prophesy. And we won't be back. If this is the "old cape" then make sure you're white and old and don't bring your grandkids before you eat there. Wow. Notice nothing in this review about price: our kids order off the adult menu and we are pretty comfortable. There was just no excuse for this experience and based upon our servers attitude it seems as though it was intentional. Here's one for those who dig deep into yelp...I hope you all do, we do and it's worth it.

I have been dining at Scargo Cafe for years and they have continued to evolve with the times, client requests, and menus. First, they have a decent craft brew list and wine offerings-- A+ to see local breweries and GABF award winners as selection choices offered. Second, their menu is progressive. Tonight I had their panko encrusted scallops (served with a Wasabi sauce ) and rather than rice, requested their coleslaw (that was very unique). Third, okay- not my usual, but I treated myself to their Award winning grapenut custard- a must for first timers here. High calorie=run on the beach. I also like the fact that they take reservations in the summer months. Service is friendly, not rushed, even in the high season months. Treat yourself to this place! The bar has nonstop sports on TV too :-)

something about this place screams "i have been here a long time" and you will make the same conclusions as you walk into a poorly renovated, and even less frequently updated facility. The area is drab, drab drab. Apps are like those you will find a in a pub Artichoke & Spinach Dip, Sweet Potato Dippers, hummus.... COME ON.. burgers are ok, bought on two occasions but mighty dry. swordfish ok, with a decent seasoning and ok cooking... but not a great cut and doesnt spark with freshness. all and all just go somewhere else. this place is a dime a dozen on cape cod.

While the service at Scargo was fabulous, I am sure it is difficult for the wait staff to be so great, with such a poor kitchen! We had several mistakes with our order, and with the exception of one salad, the food was flavorless. We even had one meal removed from the check because it was in edible, and we weren't the only table with this problem- on different entrees, nonetheless! Needless to say we won't be returning!

I popped in with family members on a recent Thursday night. The portions were generous and the quality was decent enough. Don't except ultra gourmet dining. We were seated near the bar in a booth type table. The waitress was young. She didn't really listen particularly well when we requested our dessert. Instead we ended up with the bill. I thought my lobster mac and cheese was pretty tasty, but again, not the most exciting seafood I've had. Definitely go to Scargo if you want a decent dining experience.

I had lunch here today with my family (6 people). My brother and I have gluten allergies, so it was wonderful when we were handed gluten free menus upon request. My daughter and I stopped in for lunch. We had not been here in quite some time. In all honesty, I just can't love this place when there are so many other awesome places in the vicinity. I realize the value is great, the staff are wonderful, the wine list is great and the parking and setting is great but the food isn't. It's quite ok. We had salads last time we were here for lunch and this time again. We were seated in the same booth coincidentally. Our waitress was great. We ordered a large San Pellegrino water and a tuna martini (13.99) to start. The tuna was called sushi grade but it was chewy and some pieces tied together with muscle. It was not wonderful but ok. I ordered the blackened shrimp salad special (16.99) which had a nice selection of shrimp albeit quite salty. The greens were fresh. The dressing was cloyingly sweet, almost a egg roll dipping sauce consistency and taste. The cute mini Morning Glory Muffin was a nice touch. Fresh strawberries were firm and tasty. My daughter liked her spinach salad with grilled chicken. We ordered grapenut pudding, their signature dessert, to go. We drove 4 miles home and fridged the pudding. An hour later we dipped into it and there was 4 spoons of pudding with tons of whipped creme. Kind of a bummer. The bill was 79 with tip. If you are not picky and not spoiled, Scargo could be the ticket.

This is our go to restuarant when we hit the Cape each year. I've never had a bad meal and come back for more when we order the Rhode Island Calamari, The Shrimp Martini and The Tuna Martini. The Scallop dinner is a personal favorite! Looking forward to Summer 2013

The Scargo is a nice spot in Dennis for a casual, yet upscale meal. It's a cloth-napkin menu with paper-napkin dress codes. Expect a crowd at the usual times, but a seat at the bar is usually not a problem. Service is great, the same waiters and waitresses have been working here since time began, and they know their menu and how to please a customer. The drinks are generous, and they have a GREAT selection of 22oz craft beers in bottles. Try their raspberry lambic, it's EXCELLENT. I had the grass-fed, organically raised steak special - it was just right, of course a little tougher because the cow it came from hadn't been force fed corn and drugs, and it had been allowed to roam around freely, so the level of intramuscular fat was lower. But it had a great, complex flavor, gamy without being over-the-top, smoky and meaty, with the right amount of char. I was very happy to order this, and even happier to eat it. The chef did it right. The TVs are unobtrusive for watching the Sox, and all in all it's a comfortable place. Worth a look!

Best Reuben on Cape Cod. Desserts are all delicious! And the staff just rocks! Love this place.

My boyfriend and I ate at Scargo Cafe last night while visiting Dennis. The food was pretty good, but I found it to be too bland for my tastes. We had the edamame hummus which could have used more garlic or tahinni. For dinner I had the special which was haddock with roasted almond quinoa, and my boyfriend had the pepper burger. I found my dish to be very bland...I'm not one to add pepper or salt generally, but there was just no seasoning which was disappointing. My boyfriend loved the burger though. Dessert was delicious. He had the lava cake and I had a chocolate butterscotch cake that was divine.

When I went recently, the flavors were wonderful. The apps were delicious and beautifully prepared. The only downside, my rack of lamb was overcooked and tough. I'm hoping that it's a fluke and the chef was just off his game that night. The drinks on the deck was nice and relaxing!

I was most pleased with everything about this place. First of all, the atmosphere is perfect; the place has an "Inn" feel to it. The beer/wine menu is excellent, and they carry some fine microbrews from all over the east coast. The Rhode Island Calamari impressed me (sweet peppers and a perfect and spicy remolade (spelling?) sauce tied it together nicely. The shrimp cocktail martini was as expected as well. My father had a delightful seafood strudel, which was something I had not seen before, but he raved about it. I went with the Stripped Bass, which was served with a lobster butter over a bed of excellent corn risotto. This was probably the best meal I've had on the Cape to date, I highly recommend this restaurant. I suggest a reservation, but they do take walk-ups. Pricey, but worth it, great ambiance.

I was part of a party of seven that dined here on a Friday night. Our waitress was very nice, the service was quick, and she was honest with her opinions on certain menus choices. It's interesting that Scargo's menu has a semi-Asian influence to it. The "summer sangria" drink special did come in pitcher size (plus) but it was practically impossible for the waitress to pour and a lot of it got on the floor (minus). As far as sangria goes, it was decent but not my favorite (slightly tasteless). For apps we got the edemame hummus, friend chicken, and sweet potato fries. Every single one was delicious. I really enjoyed the sauces that came with the chicken and the fries. The edemame hummus was fantastic (it is two of my favorite things combined but I was concerned how it would turn out). It's served with delicious pita chips and veggies. I am still thinking about the hummus today! I had the tenderloin steak as my entree. It came with a portabello mushroom, goat cheese, and sauteed spinach. I asked for the parmesan risotto instead of potato and I was so glad I did - it was lovely. Others at the table who ordered seafood (halibut, scallops, and haddock) all enjoyed their dishes. My friend who ordered a chicken/pasta dish did not like his at all. My husband was not a fan of his steak either (even though we got the same one but he said his piece just wasn't good). Only two of us wanted dessert, so I ordered a lava cake and they put a candle in it for my birthday. It was incredibly yummy. The prices were not out of control here either. I really enjoyed my meal and would definitely go back.

unexpectedly fancy schmancy with a much older crowd...but our server was warm and friendly so we didn't feel out of place for long. gluten-free menu with some great options. i had the baked scallops and really liked them a lot. hubby found his panko-breaded scallops bland and too breaded.

Atmosphere if you are seated to the right is lovely. (Come in main door and are taken to the right). To the left its not as nice. The food is okay. Nothing special at all. Service is the same. Overall its sort of not really worth the visit, as the blah, uninteresting food DO NOT equate the prices $$

I wish I could award 4.5 stars. While on our honeymoon, locals recommended we check out the Cafe for lunch and we were very pleased that they did. The food was delicious (although one dish had too many flavors going on); service was friendly, helpful, and mostly efficient. Some vegetarian options (portobello mushroom with caramelized onions). Good portion size and tasty sweet potato fries. The grapenut custard (of which we had never heard) was a real treat. Parking available. Easy to find off of Route 6.

After trying to wait oh so patiently at one restaurant which had an hour and a half wait - but the stomach didn't like hearing those words - We ventured to another place a short distance down the road only to find that the tiny little restaurant was packed beyond capacity. Discouraged and with tummy's rumbling Myself, my mother and my boyfriend headed toward Scargo Cafe. (I have to admit, after reading a handful of reviews I was really nervous to eat here; but my stomach was growling and I wanted food STAT! The wait was 30 minutes - not bad a for a Friday night in the Cape.) After putting our name in at the hostess stand we ventured to the bar to see if we could grab a drink or to look for possible seating. I was very surprised at how small the bar was! it was miniature like. And after taking a glance over and realizing there wasn't an open table, we headed into the main foyer, and sat in the big comfy brown leather chairs next to the fireplace. The lighting was a bit dark, but could still read our menus without having to place under the small lamp provided on the tables. For starters I had a cup of clam chowder - there were barely any clams, but the soup was nice and thick and the little crackers they were made up for the lack of clams. For the main course I ordered the Lobster with pea risotto and loved it! There was a decent size amount of lobster including the tail and claws. The texture was great and the flavor of peas was present, but not overwhelming. My boyfriend ordered the Petite Filet Mignon with piped parmesan potatoes. Before I could ask how it was, he finished it off! Literally scraped the plate clean!!! My mom loves scallops. And orders them whenever she is out at a restaurant so she saw and ordered the Panko Crusted Scallops. They are flash fried in a crunchy Japanese style bread crumbs with aromatic rice. Now let me remind you that she ALWAYS leaves with a doggy bag, but, she too ate the entire thing!!! Craziness Had there been room for desert I wanted to try the lava cake, but couldn't find space for it. I am happy to hear that Scargo Cafe is open year round. I will definitely make another trip. And when Winter comes, I won't mind the wait. I'll be relaxing and trying to warm up in one of the big comfy brown leather chairs next to the wood-burning fireplace.

My wife and I passed by for years and finally stopped in for dinner. We were a little early for dinner just coming from the beach. We were warmly greeted and told the hostess we'd like to eat at 6:30. We want to the bar which great place for a drink with a wide range of 'house' drinks and beers. If you want there is a small outdoor seating area for drinks that you have to wander around to find the door. The menu was the typical cape seafood prices $12-18) with a good amount of interesting entrees. The only downside was it tended to be an older crowd 50-60+ The waiter was friendly and prompt without hovering. The other waitstaff would also help out by checking in with you to make sure your needs were met if your server was busy. The menu had the typical seafood plus several other specialties such as a pepper coated steak. The portions were large so we skipped desert. It is a place you'd go back to - definitely for drinks - but only once a year.

Totally worth noting that the menu LOOKED great, and Scargo gets major points for 1. being open year round 2. having a fab craft beer list (scored gray lady in middle of winter) 3. being a legitimately cozy place.. dark, lots of nooks The food itself, I discovered varies from really great to very meh. To start, we chose the tobiko oysters and wedge salad. The wedge came with fresh bacon, a little too much dressing for my taste, but good blue cheese as well. The tobiko oysters were on Dennis oysters, which are a little saltier than their wellfleet cousins. They were topped with a little seaweed salad and tobiko, and overall were an interesting taste, though I'd have liked a little more difference in texture. For dinner,we chose the steak frites and the shortribs, with sour cream mashed sweet potatoes and cabbage. The steak was done perfectly, medium rare, with a generous amt of blue cheese crumbles. The frites were in house chips that were awesome- garlicky, a little weightier than normal chips, and perfect with the meat. The short ribs were really disappointing. The accompanying sauce was far too salted. The cabbage was almost pickled, it had so much salt, rendering the sweet potatoes the only redeemable portion of the meal. That said, it would have been a small failing, as it was such an obvious dish to return to the kitchen, had our server Karen not chosen to mysteriously disappear at this juncture. Service was actually lovely in that she was so nice, however, her timing was way off. Drinks arrived and there was great length after that before our order was even taken. From the time dinner was served, we didn't see her for another 35 minutes, and only then because we'd asked another waitress to find her. At that juncture she asked me about my meal, which had been obviously untouched, and I relayed it was too salty. We were a little surprised it still appeared on our bill, but such as it is..... Again, every other dish was really great, and when we received service, it, too was lovely. So.... much like all things on Cape Cod, this is mostly about managing expectation. In wintertime.... this is a great space. During the season, I'd likely go elsewhere.

We stared off with the oyster's Scargo that were very good and we had the Lobster Risotto with sweet peas and it was wonderful. Big enough to share. We had a rather loud couple nearby but could not fault the restaurant for it. They just , well, talked VERY LOUD! Our waitress was a lovely Russian girl and when I asked if she was a spy she answered yes. Guess she may not be there next time after this posting! PEACE

Shame Shame - you redecorated and forgot to care about the menu! A once notable stop on a vacation to the cape has become less then stellar post remodel. One might think all their profits were spent on a new bar rather than retaining a good head chef! Attention to detail by wait staff was sad at best. Menu items that were once yearly winners became flavorless mush! Unfortunately, the changes were enough to make these regulars scratch this eatery off of their list of places to visit.

We dined there last night and used a Limelight discount coupon. Friendly staff, well prepared meals. Arrive early or make a reservation. On a rainy Weds evening all the tables were in use. Medium rare came as rare but was not bloody, nice char on steak. Portions were just right, left room for the Grapenut Custard which was very nice. I'd give it 4.5 stars since I think 5 stars are for the rare outstanding restaurant.

We LOVE this place, Good food, Good Spirits, GREAT SERVICE FROM BETSY! We go year round, like sitting at the bar, and have NEVER been disappointed. Love the specials, Sesame Chicken app, Spinach Chevre Salad , Filet Trio Arabica, and the Panko Crusted Scallops.

Went for lunch and shared the appetizer special, the sweet potato poppers (free with check-in, woo!), and the lobster pea risotto. Everything was more delicious than I expected, and the portions were enormous. Two entrees and two apps would have been way too much. Lots of lobster on the risotto. Definitely on the pricier side for lunch (same menu as for dinner I think) but made up for by large portions, so order accordingly.

They kept the afternoon kitchen open after 3 for us......best Ruben sandwich I have had for a long time.....nice people....excellent old school style of restaurant .....the bar has the Cape Cod characters....but for a good lunch and interesting setting....go there. No dissapointments

This place was recommended to us by an older lady at our hotel. The food was good but pricey. They service was great. In fact then best we have had since we've been here. The crowd was definitely older and most looked like they were attending a play across the street. I couldn't give it 4 stars mainly because of the price/value relationship. The food really was good...if price is not in your equation.

Here's a pretty apt summary: if you're 20-something, it'll be a pleasant experience. If you're 80-something, Scargo Cafe will be a fav. We went for my grandmother's bday since this is her favorite place. I think I was a bit put off by the overly refined atmosphere -- Cape Cod restaurants are generally laid back and this place is not. I wore a pair of casual slacks and a T-shirt and was under-dressed. Anyway, onto the food. I enjoyed the sangria, ordered at the bar while we worked our way to the top of the waiting list. As a side note, the Cafe reserves only 20% of their restaurant's capacity (what?!) so either book early or arrive early to get your name on the list. We waited only 10 minutes and then got seated in a quiet side room. The volume in the room steadily increased as a couple large parties were seated. We had to raise our voices to be heard. My salmon with mango salsa was good though the risotto was overcooked. My grandfather's seafood pie (goes by a different name) was very good, he said. I can't remember what my grandmother ordered. The chocolate lava cake they served for dessert was extremely good. I'll return if we go for an event like a birthday. It's not my choice otherwise. It didn't live up to its reputation.

Four plus! Really nice sized restaurant, tables are spread out so you can enjoy some privacy. The service when we went was terrific...Matt helped with directions, our hostess was great and our waitress was friendly, helpful and attentive. The meals ranged from good to great depending on the dish. the ambience was relaxing and stylish. This was a nice surprise. Well worth the visit!

This is a nice place to go for a nice meal with a small group of friends, or a good place to take visiting in-laws. They have a nice assortment of Cape Cid fare with seafood and the like, but also some things for those of us that are not fans of fish. I had the peppercorn burger, that was delish, although maybe a tad burnt...or was that the peppercorns? My mother swears by the grapenut custard too - definitely a favorite for dessert. You should go dressed a little nicer than if you were to go to Seafood Sam's or the like, and definitely expect to pay a little more for the food. Service is hit or miss dependent on the waiter / waitress, which I guess you would find anywhere, but I would expect consistency from a classier place like Scargo. Overall a good place to go if company is in town of for the parent's birthday dinner.

1st time here Thurs night and can't believe I have never been before. Very cozy spot on a cool winter eve. Fireplaces going and a happy crowd enjoying dinner and drinks. Just had a nightcap after dinner at Chapin's but will defintely come back for eats. Everyone's chow looked tasty, lots of Asian items being eaten. Comfortable and well decorated for the season, a charming place except for the business dame sitting next to us yaking on her cell and texting on the crackberry at the same time. I mean, honey, Starbucks is just down the road, go be with your people.

Scargo Cafe on route 6A Dennis is always a reliable spot. However, it should be noted that they have mass emailed their clientele and "hinted" that it would be a good thing if complementary posts were made online about the restaurant. The owners enjoy the marketing side of the business and they are good at it. But, for a while, I'd take any ratings or comments with a grain of salt. As an aside, I'm curious about their introducing sushi on Monday nights. They referred to the startup as offering authentic Japanese sushi. I can't understand how you can deliver "authentic" with a guy named "Jimmy" and a portable-roll-into place, once a week, fresh fish system for top quality sushi. I sense a little slight of hand on the sushi side of their marketing. I hope to read posts and opinions from others soon on this subject. Following the comment by Peter, one of the principals of the Scargo Cafe, we took the time to exchange emails to discuss my remarks. This alone is reason enough to be comfortable that the restaurant is in caring hands and they work hard to deliver results on all levels. They have over two decades of developing the finer points of true entrepreneurship. Anyway, the most important point we wanted to hash out was his use of the word "authentic" to describe Monday night sushi service (which has ended and may return in the Spring). We both agreed, had Peter used the real name of the chef rather then a nickname, his experience could have been verified. And, happily, it turned out the chef is long experienced and presently active as an entrepreneur himself in the sushi business on Cape Cod. If Scargo does re-engage this chef in the Spring we will be sure to visit.

It's a nice place to go for lunch or dinner. They cater to most crowds but they are definitely popular with the old set. That's Ok, 'cause I'm old, too. It looks like a sea of gray if you go too early for dinner. That being said, we've always enjoyed the food and service. Very friendly people. We have a small child and they are helpful and friendly to children. I'm on the cape three or four times a year. Scargo is always one of my stops.

Had dinner here my first night ever in Cape Cod. We started out with a drink at the bar (since the wait was over an hour) -- drinks were good. For dinner, I ordered the lobster bisque to start, which was not a creamy bisque but more spicy and had little pieces of lobster on top. Bisque was fine, but not the best bisque I've ever had. For my entree, I had the surf and turf special, which came with grilled shrimp (which were pretty tasteless) and lime-marinated steak (which was not bad). No one at my table seemed to love any of their entrees, unfortunately, which was too bad since we were starving when we finally sat down. The entrees were fairly interesting though.

Driving by and decided to stop for lunch. The service was friendly and prompt, the prices were good, and I had the best fish sandwich I have ever had. It was the Asian Fish Sandwich. I can't remember what my wife had but she kept raving about it too. If I return to the cape, this will definitely be a mandatory stop.

Five of us dined here. Our evening started with an unhappy waitress coming over to take our drink order. I asked for a gluten free dinner menu and assumed she would be right back with it. After waiting quite some time I had to get up and walk to the front desk to get it myself. She brought our drinks then disappeared. Several minutes later another waitress, Kelly, came over and let us know our original smug waitress was leaving for the night and she would take over our table. Kelly seemed much more friendly. We ordered several appetizers and each got a dinner. Overall the food was good. Fast forward to the end of the night when another waitress, Betsy, who was waiting on a couple directly behind us stops at our table and says, "excuse me your waitress told me you seemed concerned that I was yelling at them. Just to let you know we are friends and they're fine." Betsy then proceeds to whisper to the couple about us and then they all laughed out loud. The whole situation made everyone at my table feel extremely uncomfortable. We had no idea where this all came from as none of us said anything to our waitress Kelly. I went to speak with the manager to express my concern about how rude Betsy was towards us. She didn't seem too concerned and never came over to our table to apologize to the rest of our party. I should also note that we witnessed this same waitress, Betsy, drop food on a gentleman while she was clearing his plate at one of her other tables. So if you want to dine at a restaurant where the waitresses whisper and laugh about you with their customers and drop food on you, then come here. It's unfortunate that our experience was spoiled by unprofessional waitstaff!

I just don't get it! It must be the marketing, but the food is just ordinary and you are paying premium prices. Not great service, very average food. I guess the atmosphere is good, but I'm not in love with the porch area. the huge new bar shows where their head is..it's a money maker especially while you are waiting, waiting for your table. My advice is to seek out a much better value just down the road.. Olivers. I like the Lost Dog Pub as well, but I would say Scargo and Olivers are on par with Olivers getting the nod for a much better value.

One of the reliable old favorites for the Cape - the food might not surprise you too much, but you won't be too disappointed either. Very professionally done, interesting selection of appetizers and entrees, generally a good wine list. They recently changed from salads coming with the entree to separate pricing and so of course it's a bit more expensive than it used to be. Dinner comes with a nice loaf of bread, self-sliced. Thankfully, they have started to take reservations for parties of any size. It's great they are open full season. If you're a cape resident, get the member card - based on your spending you'll get a coupon towards future meals, and extra points if you go when it snows.

this is 3.5 stars, but i gave it a 3 on here bc its not on par with the 4 star reviews ive given. this place is conv located when we go to the cape, so weve had a chance to go there a few times. i like the atmosphere, but lots of old people which can be a little annoying. we were just there, and they had the fireplace (real, not gas!) going- so that was a plus! we ordered new eng clam chowder, sweet potato fries, and a maple scallop special. almost forgot- a lava/raspberry cake dessert too! we had a waitress that had served us before- and while shes ok- its not a spirited approach she takes. she forgot to bring us bread- which is annoying bc then ya gotta ask for it. i waited too long to finish this review, so im gonna leave it be for now. suffice it to say- if youre on the cape & near this place- it can be pretty good, but i wouldnt recommend a special trip to go there. oh wait!- i did remember one detail real quick- the main dish we ordered- maple scallops- was NOT served as listed on the menu!- i hate that!!- it was supposed to have candied walnuts on top- and was part of the reason why we ordered the dish- but it arrived without the walnuts! ugh! ps- they have some decent premium beer selections! pss- clam chowder good but not great!- i like when places have some stand-out items, and generally speaking i dont think this place accomplishes that.
