Dated decor, mediocre food, management has some serious issues. The wait staff is the only positive experience out of everything. This place is not worth your time for the banquet room or dinner, even if you have a Groupon. There are 20 better places in the area.

Fantastic restaurant in Chicopee! Authentic Portuguese food at a great price. I recommend any of the Portuguese specialties on the menu.

great meals at great prices. I went here with my wife for dinner and we were not disappointed. I got a Portuguese dinner of baked cod and she got lobster. Much better prices than we are used to seeing in California, and the food was of excellent quality. The atmosphere was nice; ambient lighting, not noisy, and the staff was friendly. I would recommend this to my friends and family.

My husband and I went here on a whim last Saturday night. The place was packed! We ordered two of the specials of the evening: seafood casserole which was excellent, and my husband, the pot roast. The pot roast was just so-so and no veggies came with it, which I thought should come with carrots and onions. The waitress explained no veggies came with that as "the salad is considered the vegetable. OK, we went with that. The prices were appropriate for the quality of the food. The service was excellent!! The only thing this place lacks is it's in desperate need of updating inside! Also, instead of having people go through the banquet room; have a separate entrance for the dining area. Doesn't make sense the way it's set up now. Also maybe if they had stools at the bar, people might actually come in for a drink, instead of the bartender just making drinks for the dining room. We will definitely go back to the Cavalier. We've enjoyed their Portuguese food there before and would suggest folks give them a try!

Went there for dinner tonight and left hungrier than when I showed up. Our waitress was slow, rude, and got my order wrong. I order an appetizer and baked potato. She brought and charged me the entree portion. When I mentioned that it looked big for an appetizer she said that the appetizer didn't come with the salad bar. That's all well and good but I didn't need a huge portion which is why I pointed to what I wanted in the menu, also if I had wanted the salad bar (which was extremely small and looked gross) I would have ordered the meal. On top of it the food tasted gross and was extremely over cooked. My boyfriend got the baked seafood dinner which was bland as can be. The decor was also extremely dated.

Came here with my family after a funeral today. The first thing I unfortunately noticed was the terribly old decor. This place could use a serious facelift, because it's decorated to appeal to a 60+ crowd. For our meal, we partook in a buffet. I'm happy to say that I enjoyed the rice, but I'm disappointed to say that it's all I enjoyed. All of the food was lukewarm, the chicken was tough and had an odd aftertaste, and the roast beef was rubbery. At least there was rice, right?

I went after work for a few drinks after a long day. The prices were pretty average. The room itself is very outdated. The bartender was very friendly and attentive. Last call was at 1:10 am even though in chicopee bars close at 2am and there were only 6 people there which I found very odd. I guess the owner decided he wanted to close at 1:30 am. Would I return? Eh.... probably not.

We recently had a baby shower at the Cavalier. We arrived an hour before it began (as we were told we could do) and we were greeted by waitstaff who were openly annoyed we were there early. We arrived carrying heavy boxes and bags, and wandered aimlessly around the restaurant looking for our assigned area, and never once did a waitress say "May I help you?" Next, the waitstaff argued with us about how many tables we had requested. We didn't get a drop of anything to drink until at least 45 minutes after the party began (not even the very pregnant guest of honor - how embarrassing). The food came out about 15 minutes later than scheduled, which wasn't a huge deal but if we only have the room for 3 hours we are on a schedule. Food is what you'd expect - mediocre at best. The service was what killed it for me - we were treated like a nuisance and the only special request we made was for a single cup of tea (which also took 20 minutes to appear). I won't be using them again. If you have a special event you'd be better off meeting up at the local McDonalds.

Welp where to begin.... My biggest problem with this place has got to be management. Foods okay, comparable to other nearby places. Prices, a little above others (which doesn't make sense cuz the food isn't really better). All those could be overlooked if management was better though. I went with my husband one night. I got the scallops and scrod, actually pretty good. My husband ordered something that was advertised as some seafood and pork in a "spicy sauce". When he got it I have to say it looked a MESS. Like the chef just threw random things from the fridge in a bowl, heated it and served it. So many random things, pickles stood out to me tho. Now my husband will usually eat ANYTHING you put in front of him, not a picky guy at all. But this he just couldn't do. When the waitress came she saw the untouched food and instead of asking the logical question "did you not like it?... Would you like something else?..." She says "box it for you?" My husband lets her know he didn't like it so no he wouldn't want it boxed, then one of the owners comes and is practically berating for not liking the meal. When my husband responds that he wouldn't have ordered if he knew there were pickles the owner INSISTS that the menu said it had pickles (we had just looked, it didn't) so my husband says "ok get a menu and let's look." He finds the meal and says (word for word): "see? It says 'in a spicy sauce'..." I'm sorry but pickles are not spicy and this do not equal a "spicy sauce". Then accuses him of being "too picky" for Portuguese food. What? I don't typically give only one star to local non-chain places, but I can't even bring myself to give an additional mercy star. Anyway, there's more in regards to their management style that I didn't like but I'll leave it there. UPDATE: the meal my husband ordered was "Carne de Porco Alentajana". Description on the menu says, and I quote, "Clams and pork in a spicy sauce." (You hear pickles? Yeah, me neither.)

Had the carne de porco alentejana tonight, amazing !!!! Also got a bitoque , and stuffed chicken breast , everything was delicious , and I thought it was a very reasonable price for the amount and quality of food we got.

Yikes. The Cavalier has been around for quite some time, and over the past year I have had occasion to go there for banquets and such. The food is ok, but not great and the atmosphere is downright depressing. It really has that look and feel of needing a good cleaning. The bar is sad, with an awful wine selection.
