We came in Friday night and everything was fabulous, very fresh, and very light. The drinks were wonderful, and we really loved the Cape Cosmo. The clam chowder is great, and the haddock was delicious!

I'm surprised WGT has received such high markings. We were actually pretty dissappointed with the food. Almost seemed like the cook had no concept of what he was doing. The burger was way overcooked, and the pizza way undercooked. Al dente, worst I have every had. We should have known better ordering pizza here, we tend to measure against New Haven standards which is not fair. However, I can imagine that even Domino's has a better pie. It was a chilly evening so we ate inside. I give two stars for outdoor seating which to me is always a huge plus.

Crab cakes to die for.... Good chowder... Full of clams... Ordered the sea of love was perfectly done... Wife ordered short stack... You could cut filet Mignon with fork and sword fish was perfect... Nice portions... Kids friendly ..... Wait staff runs to much and needs to slow down in dining room...

Slow service. The only reason we were there was because our restaurant of choice had a 1-hr wait and the wild goose promised 30 minutes wait--which turned out to be 1-hr anyways. The service was slow. I asked the waitress if the portions were big and she says they are average. Turns out to be big. Food was average. Everyone was tired after a long day of tours and everyone was hungry and we finished all the rolls while waiting. We did not finish the food as a result.

I visited Chatham for the 4th of July weekend, and my sister suggested this restaurant as the best place to take visitors. She was definitely right!! The atmosphere was very lively and "patriotic", and the seafood to choose from was great! The portion sizes were large, so I chose to share the seafood pasta special with my friend, and that was perfect! Overall, it was a wonderful night out. One recommendation I do have is to make a reservation just in case. We made one but we had quite a wait (though it was nice to spend the extra time browsing the other shops on the main street). Looking forward to my next trip!!

Had Easter brunch there. Was only "ok", but very overpriced for the value. The carving stations looked nice, but lacked flavor, were cold instead hot. Was very surprised that soft drinks were a la carte. For $41/pp, this was an unpleasant surprise.

I'd more precisely give this place 3.5 stars. We visited for lunch on the day after 4th of July. We opted not to enjoy adult beverages, which were a bit pricey at $9 each for the featured Sangria. I got the featured lobster quesadilla which was good, but not amazing. I would have liked a little more lobster and a little more flavor in the form of old bay or other more strong tasting ingredients. My husband had the spinach chicken burger which he enjoyed. The fries were particularly crunchy and perfectly good. He has a food phobia of mushrooms, which they were able to modify for him in real time. Service was generally good, although we both had to ask for drink refills.

Awesome little lunch spot with great outdoor seating. The service is good and the waiting staff attentive. We ordered a lobster roll and fish sandwich to share - the food was good, quality pub grub. We walked past this place in the evening and it was busy and had a more dressed up vibe. I actually think this might have been a better place than the Imprudent Oyster to go for our last Chatham meal - both are good but The Wild Goose Tavern looked more laid back and chilled. I would definitely recommend eating here once for a short stay or doing a dinner/lunch comparison if you're in Chatham for more than a few days. Head to the Chatham Squire Pub after if you're looking for a few lively drinks.

Great little lunch spot in Chatham. The outside area reminds me of the Ivy in L.A. Let me be clear that I am not saying this place is comparable to the Ivy but sitting outside on the porch behind the white picket fence watching the hustle and bustle of the town was quite entertaining. Mark had the fish and chips which I think he liked because by the time I looked up it was gone. Perfect portions so plenty to leave you full but not overly stuffed. It was great to see some healthier options on the menu like the chicken salad sandwich with cranberries & walnuts on a croissant accompanied by some fruit which was quite tasty. I was eavesdropping on the table next to us and the couple had the dessert special, a chocolate peanut butter pie which they could not saying enough about. Too bad I was trying to watch my calories because it looked fantastic. All in all it's a great lunch spot with a large enough menu that you can find something you'll love. I would recommend sitting outside as the inside dining room was not that impressive at all.

Great location, solid menu, and incredibly delicious food. Had the Short Stack two nights ago; a piece of swordfish on top of a piece of filet, with two sauces, caramelized onions, cooked spinach, and mashed potatoes. Not only was it fresh and delicious, but the portions were perfect--large enough to be satisfying but not too large that you feel overwhelmingly full afterward. Appetizers also tasty, really recommend the spinach artichoke dip. During the summer it's always busy, so definitely recommend getting a reservation. They expanded the restaurant recently though so they can accommodate large parties.

Started with the Spinach Artichoke Dip which I highly recommend. It was very creamy and had a crispy top, it's one of the best I have had. Lobster Bisque was very good as well. Split a Chicken Salad Sandwich which was very fresh and light, again probably one of the best I have had. Great service, we had Fiona, and pleasant atmosphere. The mural on the wall was a nice touch. Highly recommend this place!

This restaurant was a horrible experience. Not only was it overpriced for what we got, but the service was rushed and the food was nothing to write home about. We chose this restaurant because of the high ratings it received on Yelp, and got there an hour prior to our 8pm reservation on a Saturday night. We let them know we were there early and said it was not a problem at all if they couldn't seat us until our reserv, but if they had anything we were here - in reply we got a snappy "oh we have nothing." We had no problem waiting at the bar and got a couple of drinks. While waiting I sincerely felt like I was in a diner or a Denny's. The atmosphere was awful, the wallpaper was old and the carpet in the main room was disgusting. I was really surprised by the interior after seeing the quaint outside. The outside patio looked cute, but it was a chilly night so we stayed inside. All in all the menu looked good so we decided to wait and give it a try. 15 minutes after our reservation (8:15), we were finally seated in a booth. We ordered a half bottle of wine and before even finishing one glass, we had our appetizers in front of us. I ordered the french onion soup which was good and my boyfriend ordered crap cakes which were also good. However within literally five minutes of finishing we received our dinners; my boyfriend ordered the lobster ravioli and I ordered the chicken franchaise. Mine was pretty bland (the waiter recommended it to me) and his lobster ravs had three tiny pieces of lobster in it. Not even kidding our food came so fast that we hadn't even finished our first glass of wine before we were done (and this is not because we drink extremely slow haha). We were in and out of there by 9pm which was an absolute joke. I don't know if we mistakenly ended up in the wrong restaurant or if these reviewers are just out of their minds, but do not go here unless you are looking for a diner-esque experience. For a $100 bill, this was not worth it whatsoever. We were looking for a quaint restaurant with great food and this did not do it.

I thought the food was tasty but have a problem when waiters / cooks cant follow requests. There were 3 of us and not being starved we decided to order 2 sandwiches and have them cut into thirds to share. What we got was 1 sandwich cut in half and the other half cut in half. So it became a half and 2 quarters. The other sandwich was only cut in half. I had explicitly told the waitress to cut both sandwiches in thirds. When I asked her about it she shrugged and said " oh, you wanted both in thirds ?" I replied , never mind and took care of it myself. I give it 3 stars because the food was decent.

Solid lunch in Chatham at this sit down tavern with a very comfortable interior dining room. Nice break from the shphitzing outside. Had the three kids and they were well take care of - nice menus, decent selection, crayons etc. Two had noodles (penne) with cheese sauce and one had the fish and chips (hold the fries, cole slaw pls). We started with a shared plate of onion rings with a tomato aoili, which everyone enjoyed, albeit there were about six onion rings total. I had a tuna melt, less than $10 which is good for Chaham, and it had fresh tomato, tasty tuna salad and well-toasted bread. Iced tea got a refill quickly. Quiet place, quality food, great service. Nice respite for mid-day.

"Award winning" chowder was tepid and gloppy (waiter graciously removed from our tab). Rest of dinner just average. Good service, though.

We ate there last night and had a very disappointing and expensive experience. The fish was raw, the orders were inaccurate, the wine was mediocre and it was exorbitantly expensive. We would not recommend it.

This tavern is attached to the Wayside Inn, which is an older Inn smack in the center of town. There is not many places to grab a "quick" lunch in Chatham, so we decided on this place. Let me say, the service in this place was impeccable. From start to finish we were greeted by some of the most friendly servers and hostesses I have ever seen. It was quite busy for a lunchtime Memorial Day weekend but the staff kept up with the pace and was quick on their feet. The interior is decorated modestly and the dining room is quite large. The menu offers an eclectic array of items from seafood of course to pizza with a good assortment of sandwiches. I opted for the lobster roll and even though the price was a bit steep, it was delicious. My wife ordered the French Dip and it was equally good. The prices were reasonable for Chatham and in all it was a very good meal and I would recommend and return to this spot. Out of any of the places in Chatham, you will not be sorry you stopped in to eat here. Visit the store in the hotel on your way out for some neat gifts and knick knacks.

First place that could seat us without a 45 min wait. That always scares me. Turns out my fears were unfounded. Very decent meal, ( fish and chips ) and a 4 star bowl of Clam Chowder. Service was better than average, but the hostess had a bit of an attitude. Overall a good experience.

Went here with my parents last season. The food was fine and the service started out poor and turned offensive. My parents were both born in Latin America and have lived in the states for 30 years. When we got our bill my dad noticed that the waiter had tagged on 18% gratuity... for a party of three. WTF. The waiter explained that there are many foreign visitors in the cape and they don't always understand American standards for tipping. Wow. Awful.

Food was very good although I found portion sizes a little on the small side... Especially calamari app which seemed to have more olives and peppers than calamari (although taste was excellent which might be why I wanted more). I had the scallop roll which was also excellent... Perhaps the best I've had and there are a lot of good seafood restaurants in southeastern Mass. Service was very good although we were there for a late lunch and it was not busy at all so not sure if that would hold up at dinner rush. Kids loved the fish and chips too.

Worst dining experience on cape cod. Came here because it looked very charming from the outside. Told there was a 10 min wait but ended up waiting over 30 min for a table, which made no sense because a quick glance showed that there were a lot of tables available. When we were finally seated we asked for bread and didn't get it until the meals were served. I agree with the other reviews that the bread was the best part. I ordered the surf & turf which was by far the worst I've ever had. The fillet was dry, tasted like it had been frozen, and so freakishly small. The shrimp tasted to fishy (obvious that it was frozen) that I couldn't even eat the second piece---did I mention I was only given 2 pieces of shrimp? The asparagus was flavorless and raw. The mashed potatoes were made from the ready-made box. My boyfriend got a burger and said that it was terrible and so soggy that he thought the bread would stick on the wall if he threw it. NOT worth the $31.95 for the surf & turf as I wish I ate pizza or even a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for dinner which would have been better.

What a disappointment. It's such an appealing place from the outside that we decided to try it for dinner. Aside from the rolls, which were really good, the rest of the meal was terrible, and incredibly overpriced. Spinach and artichoke dip was probably Bousin cheese that had been heated up. Braised short rib was quite possibly not a short rib at all, but rather a piece of roast. While whatever the meat was was cooked well (moist and fall apart consistency), the "Demi glaze" that it came with was the consistency of BBQ sauce. Served with lukewarm mashed potatoes, and what were supposed to be "roasted" asparagus and carrots were boiled and without any seasoning at all. Husband's steak au poivre with brandy cream sauce was missed on the ticket so we had to wait an additional 10 minutes. The only good thing about his meal was that it was hot. It was supposed to be accompanied by a brandy cream sauce (even said that on the menu) but instead was served with the same BBQ, I mean "Demi glaze" that was on my roast, I mean "short ribs". To make matters worse, when we mentioned the sauce mixup to our waitress at the end of the meal, she indicated that she had noticed the sauce was wrong when she brought it out. Why didn't she say anything to the chef??? Honestly, aside from the rolls, and the fact that they took the steak off our bill without us asking, the rest of the meal sucked. Now, to the restaurant's defense, aside from mentioning the sauce issue, we didn't bring up any of the other disappointments to them... Perhaps if we did, the outcome would have been better... Regardless, our search for a good restaurant in the Chatham/Orleans area continues (we've given up on finding something "great")...

Very nice atmosphere.

This place is in the center of town, great location. Service is good! Food mediocre especially the flatbreads. The salads are good and the selection for a kids menu as well as the wine list is great. Would I go back....... As a last resort or just for drinks

Part of Chatham's Wayside Inn, this venue is lovely to look at, with a wonderful color palette, classical furnishings, good lighting and an outdoor cafe right on the street in the heart of Chatham. In no way does it resemble the usual hotel dining room! The menu offers lots of choices. We were five for lunch. Several liked the blackened swordfish sandwich. Another opted for scallops, prepared broiled by special request. This too was a hit. The crab cakes were the only disappointment. At a cost of $14 for lunch I expected more than two thin 2-inch cakes which were austere, dry, and not very well seasoned. No sauce accompanied them, although a friend shared some pesto aioli. Given the fairly small side of fries, this would have been a somewhat inadequate appetizer. Overall, I liked this place and want to see it succeed. I'd go back, but probably choose my entree more carefully.

So on our way back from P-Town we were craving lunch and stumbled upon this gem. People trashing it, it says something about their taste. We walked in there with no expectations and wow! Service: amazing. Seated in a good table, our server was kind, friendly and diligent. He actually recommended a choice that wasn't the higher price of the two because he said it was amazing, it was. Drinks: amazing brunchy drinks and Irish coffee. Food phenomal, big portions. I got the macaroni and cheese because I needed a carb and cheese and it was the best ever. I also had 75% left at the end. Everyone was so thrilled. Go here.

It's really a toss up between 3 or 4 stars. Our waitress was friendly and very pleasant, but unfortunately not very good. We had a number of problems with service that were easy enough to get past, but took away from the overall experience. Food was solid and we were glad we ordered some goose fries. We had a party or 8 and they were able to sit us relatively quickly for a late lunch on a very busy weekend in Chatham (Art Festival). A/C on a hot muggy Saturday afternoon was a treat for all. It was just adults I think we would have taken and really enjoyed the outdoor seating!

Descent spot to stop while shopping in Chatham. I believe the tavern is part of an inn, and it definitely has the feel of a hotel bar. Not bad, but not great either. Older crowd. Dated carpet. Friendly staff. My husband and I stopped here during a rain storm for a couple drinks. We ordered Goose Fries, which are topped with melted Gouda, scallions and bacon (we skipped the bacon). Great vacation food. Probably would not get a meal here but it did meet our needs and exceed expectations of a hotel bar. Bartender (Carlton? C- something...) was a super nice and knowledgeable.

We tried this our first night and the food was awful. We got a special that was some sort of surf and turf and everything was dry and flavorless. Thought maybe we just ordered wrong, so came back for lunch later in the week but the food was equally bad. Not many other options on the main drag but we will definitely never come back here

This past weekend I was in Cape Cod for the holiday weekend. First time there, and a short stay, but was able to squeeze in some delicious food at Wild Goose Tavern in Chatham. Set in a classic, beach meets yacht aesthetic, this casual restaurant serves fresh, local seafood and American fare. To start, I ordered a Margarita. I know, it doesn't scream Cape Cod, but, hey, I wanted one. It was light and refreshing, no complaints here. Then, for the table to start, we had the Smoked Bluefish (smoked in-house, horseradish cream, crackers). This was really great. The fish had a light, flaky and meaty texture with a perfectly balanced smoked flavor. Paired with the creaminess and slight bite of the horseradish cream, and the saltiness and crunch of the crackers, it was a great combination for an excellent starter. For my entree I ordered one of their specials that night, the Swordfish (grilled Atlantic Swordfish, kalamata olive mashed potatoes, asparagus, roasted tomato, red wine jus). This was an incredible dish. The portion was perfect and the entire meal was flavorful and well balanced. The fish was perfectly cooked, giving it just the right texture, and rich in flavor from the jus. The potatoes were creamy and buttery, and the olives, similar to a tapenade, added a nice saltiness to counteract the richness of the potatoes. Then, for some fresh crispness, the asparagus was just the right touch, and a bit of added acidity from the tomatoes balanced out the dish very nicely. And then, dessert was a must. Now, I didn't order the dessert, and couldn't find it on their menu afterward, so, I can't say with 100% certainty what it was. But, I will say that it was ridiculously good. It was almost like a warm, rich, cookie pie served with vanilla ice cream. So, dessert, whatever you were, you were delicious and I loved you.

Wasn't that busy yet the waitress took way too long to take our orders, serve out drinks/meals and get us the bill. I feel like the meals lacked the protein component in both the fish tacos and lobster/crab quesadilla my SO received. Price did not match quality nor portions. Pluses to include cleanliness, location and very friendly.

I ordered the shrimp and grits-- excellent however a small portion. 5 shrimp and maybe 1/2 cup of grits. Not enough to justify the $26.00 price even though it was good. My wife had a simple baked scrod over mashed. it was served with 5 or 6 asparagus stalks. The cod actually had a piece of paper between the fish and the potatoes. She told the waiter who apologized but did nothing else. She should have sent it back but she is not like that. For such a supposedly good restaurant I cannot help but wonder what is would take to have the waiter get the manager. In NO hurry to go back.

After a long day we decided to venture into Chatham and try out the Wild Goose Tavern. My wife and one child had visited it a few days before and enjoyed it so I decided I needed to check it out. We called ahead to be put on the wait list (no reservations are given as far as I know). When we arrived it was almost our turn and there was a big wait so I am glad we called ahead. The Goose Fries appetizer was very good and I think our favorite dish of the evening. I had the Thai Chicken Flatbread which was good but not a big portion whatsoever as it was more an appetizer size than an entree as advertised. My wife and kids enjoyed their meals, my wife had the burger and my children had the kids cheese flatbread. The part of the meal that was not good was our waiter. He had zero personality and in fact kind of talked back to us when we asked for something on the side, saying "that is the ruining the dish". All I asked is for the Thai sweet chili sauce for my flatbread to be on the side. He was not very attentive either. I would only go back here if I was guaranteed not to have that waiter again.

The wild goose has been a favorite of my families since we started staying in Chatham . We recently went with a large group and they were very accommodating. Our server was as friendly as can be and the atmosphere was nice and relaxed. We had a baby with us and it was very appropriate for kids. The only downside... Big group... Big bill!!! The prices are a bit much when you can go to another close restaurant and get the same thing for a lower price but overall would go back :)!

So so. We were seated in the small front room and it was super loud. The acoustics are awful in there. Our waiter was mediocre at best. The food was good but not great. It was also Chatham expensive. Weak beer list too. The clam chowder was excellent.

Would be a solid 3.5 if half stars were an option. The food was ok, nothing spectacular. The service was good and relatively fast. We went during the heart of the summer and they were able to sit us right away. Definately a perk in my book when you have 3 young children.

Super delicious! I had the cape codder salad (really good!) and a flatbread which was also delicious. My mom had oysters which she said were great and they looked like they were a very good size. Overall it was very delicious, well priced, and had a great atmosphere...especially on the porch. Will definitely be returning!

This place offers a solid lunch. Service is good as is the location. Eat outside and you will be able to enjoy all the sights of Main Street. I must say for the cost, the food is just OK, but I think here you pay for the atmosphere as well...what that is worth is up to you.

I had the Brie and Bread to start and the shrimp and grits for my main. Both dishes were excellent. The pineapple mojito was really good. My family all enjoyed their dishes like the Halibut and Lobster Mac. Our server was from Romania (forgot her name) and she was really great. She not only was extremely attentive but I forgot my credit card and she jogged a few blocks to return it. I definitely will return for the good food and service

Flavorless fish taco. Fries were not fully cooked (cold and mealy in the middle, soggy outside). Kids Mac and cheese was Kraft, not real cheese. I don't know if it's a town of Chatham rule or just this place, but the "no strollers" rule is ridiculous. The dining area is spacious with ample room for strollers, much more so than all the Boston restaurants that allow strollers, knowing that sleeping babies make for happy parents who can spend more time and money, and happy nearby diners.

I think this place is here based off location and appearance. It is right in the middle of the main drag of Chatham and when it gets busy it fills up regardless of how below average it is. The fact is there really aren't many great places to eat on the main drag in Chatham. I have come here a few times now and I am never impressed. But I wanted a kid friendly place so I went with my wife and our 2 year old. The service is blah. They try hard but they clearly aren't very good. We couldn't sit outside with a high chair - no explanation why. We started with some chowder which my daughter and I ate -it was fine - and some oysters which were small local oysters. They have great local oysters so clearly they must not pay for the good ones. Dinner was really bad though. My wife tried a blackened salmon to really test their actual skill. It was not good at all. The fish was not cooked terribly, but it was completely underseasoned - it didn't have a speck of black crust and I don't know why they called it blackened. My daughter and I shared a flatbread magherita and it was terrible. She loves pizza and she took one bite and said no more. I'll have to keep trying for a good spot in Chatham - something with decent food that could also be kid friendly. Everyone loves Impudent Oyster - it is definitely better but I have never been thrilled. There are so many good restaurants outside of downtown Chatham on Rt 28 and in other parts of the Cape, it is a shame this place can get away with such poor food even with fine dining prices ($30 fish).

Enjoyed dinner here in a group of 5. The service was timely and friendly. We ordered the oysters to start and enjoyed their warm bread. I had the salmon salad which was good. Everyone was satisfied with their meals but nothing to be overly enthusiastic about. Nice decor and ambiance and conveniently located across from the Squire.

I feel the need to contribute, given the several mediocre reviews. Here goes. My boyfriend Nicolas and I just ate an early dinner here. We were impressed by the atmosphere and staff, and delighted by the menu options. We chose to begin with the spinach mushroom flatbread, made with homemade ricotta and pesto. Nicolas remarked that it tasted as if the ricotta had just come out of the pot. For entrees, I had the carnivale salad. While it was fresh, it was sort of bland- just your average salad. Nicolas however chose the lobster Mac and cheese. Upon finishing, he mentioned that there is usually a lot left to be desired of this dish, and he found that the lobster was both generous and fresh. As we are both athletes fond of large portions, we can attest that you too will be full upon leaving. I would certainly recommend this place. Enjoy!

I think the best thing the Wild Goose has going for it is, the decor. Classic white wood work with blue painted walls, hardwood floors and spindle back dining chairs. Very coastal New England. There is an outdoor eating area which would be great on warmer evenings. Upon first glance, the menu looks tasty. Lots of seafood options and some hardy beef-lovers' dishes but sadly just 1 or 2 truly vegetarian options. Prices are a little high but, hey, you are in Chatham after all. Service was OK. Not terrible, but nothing to rave about. As for the food....theoretically, the dishes should have been great. Swordfish with truffled mashed potatoes, blackened salmon with jasmine rice and broccolini, Atlantic cod, halibut....good things, right? Well unfortunately none of us was 100% satisfied. Every dish had something to complain about. The Atlantic Cod special was tiny, the blackened salmoned was unnecessarily spicy, the swordfish steak was cut very thin and the olive oil poached halibut was heavy with a butter sauce and overpowering olive oil flavor. Overall nothing was disastrous, just slightly disappointing. And when you're paying $25 for your dinner, you should be perfectly pleased. In terms of affordable finer dining in the area, I'm not sure there are many other options so if you're in a pinch in Chatham, then I'd say it's worth a try at the Wild Goose. The decor is classy but you can get away dressing fairly casual and maybe order a cocktail or two to distract from the food. One note to mention, it gets LOUD on Saturday nights, so it's maybe not the best locale for an intimate, romantic date.

A nice place. Great location. Food is a bit over priced. Service is good. we both had the kale and roasted cauliflower salad with salmon. It is good. Very good. It is a bit over priced, however, which is leading to 3 stars. I think they are a bit unsure about their identity. Lots of families and also couples. I think it is very Chatham-esque, given the mix of people on the street. Overall, we enjoyed it. We would recommend it to others.

We come every year during Christmas Stroll Weekend. After a long drive to Chatham, my family and I are hungry after the annual tree lighting! The Wild Goose Tavern is our go to place for dinner that night. Upon entering the attractive Christmasy restaurant, we are always greeted by a very friendly hostess. We ordered the french onion soup and also the clam chowder as appetizers. Both soups were magnificent! The french onion soup was packed with flavor, had a thick piece of bread soaking inside the broth, and plenty of swiss cheese melted over the bowl. The clam chowder contained big chunks of fresh clams and potatoes. This too was packed with flavor. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits (which doesn't appear to be on menu anymore :( This dish was phenomenal! The generous portion of jumbo shrimp were super fresh and the cheesy grits in sauce and fresh spinach was to die for. As for the other people in my party, two ordered the Meatloaf which got rave reviews and the other person ordered the Salmon, which also got a major thumbs up. Everything was fresh, generously portioned, and completely satisfying. A bonus was the carolers coming in to sing for the dining room as we ate :) I will be sure to keep returning!

This place is really not worth coming to. Went in for lunch the other day and stood at host stand for about 5 minutes before a server had to come over to seat us, manager/host was behind the wall on her phone. Ordered the grilled salmon salad (20.95)....got a hockey puck piece of overcooked small portioned salmon....really tasteless. Salad was advertised as "artisan greens" LOL!!! it was a bagged mesculin greens, eh ok. Advertised as with red onions, tomatoes, and hard-boiled eggS. The S is capital because you'd think there was more than one. Nope, one egg turning blue sliced and served. Half a slice of onion, and soft borderline rotten cucumbers and tomatoes. The dressing, a "lemon-caper vinaigrette", was actually really bland, I didnt taste lemon or capers just oil. When my friends chicken quesadilla came out without sour cream we asked for some and they had run out?? Our server was awful, we were clearly unhappy and he should have let some one know, although manager seems just as complacent as he did. This place needs a new chef and some servers who give a s**t. NOT worth $50 lunch.....prices are WAY too much for the experience you get here. Tavern my a$$...

Ever hear the expression; to "fall by the wayside" ? It means that things have taken a turn for the worse. In this case, could be THE WORST (of Chatham). A once venerable and dependable entity (Hotel / Bar / Restaurant). In the last few years we have had money stolen from the room (we believe, though they deny it) and an utter decay of service and quality. The money was taken from the luggage of a Sr. Citizen and the recourse was a free drink or some other token $10 apology. I ordered Surf an Turf ( about $38.00 ) and after over an hour, when it was finally delivered (we were there almost 2 and a half hours on a Friday night). It was absolutely unrecognizable and disgusting. It was taken off of the bill but the abject horribleness of the entire meal (which was incredibly expensive overall) is testament to the fact that this is no longer a viable option for any meals while in Chatham.

Worst meal that I've had on Cape, ever. The service sucked as well. We waited an hour for our food, and the waiter never came to check on us. It's a shame, because I would have told him that my Swordfish was ridiculously dry, and the Lobster ravioli was a disgustingly separated oily mess (see uploaded pic). The asparagus wasn't even cooked, it was raw. I told the waiter at the end of the meal, and he said the he would bring the manager over. She comes by, and doesn't even introduce herself. She says, "Can I help you?" I let her know how terrible the meal was, and she took off one of the entrees. Barf.

Hrm. Didn't know which way to go here. Walking in, I had good vibes. Kind of felt like I was some old sea dog walking off the dock into a public house for a drink and a hot meal on dry land for the first time in months. In other words, they have the atmosphere down pat. An interestingly varied menu complete with good wine/beer/cocktail list. Food was good. People enjoyed their chowder, I liked my French onion soup. Entrees were pretty standard American fare. Nothing crazy on the menu and nothing disappointed, though nothing blew anyone's mind. Service was pretty week. Our waitress just didnt' have it together. Cleared the table 1/2 at a time with a pretty long wait in between halves. Long as in she cleared the other half when entrees arrived. Not only was she unattentive as far as re-filling drinks, she had no back-up. No other servers/runners/managers checked in. Not what I would expect from a place with their price-point. We didnt' stick around for dessert.

We went here on a Saturday afternoon. Our server Elaina, was great and attentive. Drink menu had a good variety and were mixed well but the food was in a higher category. We had onion rings for an appetizer which were light, not drowning in oil, dense onion rings like you sometimes get. Our meals were a Brie, bacon and apple sandwich served on a buttery croissant with house made chips. This was the star of this meal. I had the Thai chicken wings from the specials menu which were sticky and flavorful. I would recommend this place and definitely go back.

I have very mixed feelings about this restaurant. The location is fantastic, the service is great, and a few of the dishes there are fantastic (smoked bluefish appetizer). BUT, twice I have ordered a meal and received something very different from how it was described. First it was a salmon dish (that is no longer on the menu) that was described as coming with udon noodles, but no udon noodles came with it. Most recently I ordered "The Burger." On the menu it was described as having "candied jalapeño bacon" on it. When my burger came out, it was just regular bacon definitely nothing candied or jalapeño about it. It just seems lazy. I hope they become more consistent and bring you the food exactly how it is described on the menu.

Really wanted to like this place as the location and service are great. Dining room is cold, drafty and dated. Chowder is passable. Rest of our order lacked seasoning and could have easily come from a store bought package - perhaps it did. Again, waitress was fantastic!

Good restaurant option if you want to stay in Chatham. Wouldn't be my first pick but food is decent and atmosphere is good. Service was very good. Ordered: Cape Cod Salad - fairly bland and they took it upon themselves to replace the Candied Pecans with dry peanuts. Pecans were the key to the salad. Rolls- were good with the exception of one that was still frozen. Fish and Chips: decent portion and freshly cooked. Fries were soggy as they were under fish. Cole slaw was ok. Burger: Tasty after round two....first came out with cheese pieces stacked on top, unmelted on a charcoal black burnt bun. Sent back and cheese was melted, new bun. Fries were fresh and hot. Cookie pie: tasty but not homemade. Warm cookie with icecream. Portion size could have been a bit larger for price. Good selection of wines by glass. Overall a good option as there aren't many in Chatham. Dinners didn't look great which is why our choices were the above.

The restaurant was clean, the food was fresh and the service was nice but our meals left us hungry and confused. The kids Mac and cheese was so meager we has to order another portion and our kids still left hungry. The Thai chicken flat bread was piled high with Japanese pickled ginger on top of cold sliced chicken, peanut sauce and sprouts. It was all tossed stop the flatbread unevenly and unappealingly. The margarita flat bread consisted of fresh mozzarella slabs and sliced cherry tomatoes and drizzled balsamic on top of crispy flatbread. It wasn't actually cooked. It all looked like a kid doled it all out and put it together. The kitchen staff really needs to get their act together because the rest of the experience was fine. We spent $75 and left hungry.

Mediocre restaurant in a prime location. The lobster mac and cheese had plenty of lobster and was a nice sized portion. The presentation could have been better - maybe baked in a ramekin? The pasta special "Sea of Love" was sitting in a puddle of olive oil. WAY too much oil for this dish. The flat iron steak was cooked correctly and offered a nice flavor. The tuna was just so-so. Everything was just okay - nothing to rave about.

We sat at the bar for drinks and apps only. It was a few days Post Labor Day and the bartender seemed very happy for it. The martinis were stellar. Bob mixed a mean Watermelon infused vodka thingie and a rosemary vodkatini. Both went down a little too easy. We ordered the Goose Fat Fries with Cheese Sauce. Need I say more? I intended to "just have a few" but that went out the window. I tried to redeem myself with some shrimp cocktail but who are we fooling? It wasn't too busy nor crowded. I liked the New England atmosphere. The only teeny, mean question I have is: what's with staff hanging around during their off hours and drinking at the bar? This seems to be a theme in most Cape bars and restaurants. Of course they're welcome, but there's a sad element when they get inebriated, loud and want to engage. Please. Go Home. Or somewhere else. We just want to delight in the atmosphere in the few days off we have from Real Life and not listen to your woes. As a former, well trained, professional waitress and bartender, I wasn't allowed to hang out, especially in uniform, outside the back door let alone at the bar unless it was after closing out of respect for the experience of the customer. And why would I want to?
Very good mussels, great service, good fig and prosciutto flatbread. Overall great experience. Also one of only a few places serving food at 4:30pm!

Good spot for a drink on Main Street. Stella on draft was refreshing and my wife loved the watermelon flavored vodka martini.

My husband and I had dinner here last night and it was so awful I felt the need to comment. We started with a hummus flatbread. It was an oily mess. My husband then had the tuna special. There was such a small amount of tuna on his plate that he actually questioned the waiter as to whether he had gotten an entree portion. The waiter somewhat sheepishly informed him that all the portions were that size. I had the halibut. While the portion was okay, it was seriously under-seasoned and lacked flavor. We ate here last year and were aware that this is not an inexpensive restaurant, but we were impressed with the food and the lovely ambience. However it is not good business to charge hefty prices and leave your guests feeling hungry. After our latest meal we will not be returning.

Stuck without a reservation on a recent Saturday night at the Cape, we were fortunate to find a spot at The Wild Goose Tavern. My question is this: Why wasn't it more crowded? The food is really quite good -- we got onion rings, fresh cod, and a burger. The waitress -- Jan -- was incredibly attentive and kind. And the prices were definitely reasonable. An appetizer, a dessert, a beer (only one because my wife is pregnant) and two dinners came to about 65 bucks. Maybe I'm missing something, but this place deserves better than it's getting on Yelp.

Casual and cozy. For lunch it was full of families. Good for brunch and lunch. Got the lobster quesadilla and it was delicious. Good wine and beer options too.

Great for lunch, people watching on the porch. Food was great, but not memorable. Service was very sub-par for this price range. Waiter barely spoke, and grunted most of the time. Looked like this was the last place he wanted to be. I would never sit inside. It's a huge room that feels like...well, a huge room. As you walk in there were smaller rooms that had more charm, but those were not open. It's a place that should have more going for it than it really does.

My mom and I went to have a late dinner at the Wild Goose Tavern last night. Spirits were high, it was our first night of a one week vacation. We have been coming to Chatham every year for 25+ years, so we feel as though we have a reasonably good handle on tasty food in Chatham. We decided on the Wild Goose because we could walk there, and my mom had had a fun time there a few weeks ago. We were seated quickly and our waiter came over to ask for drink orders. He carded me, and I made a joke about him having to card my mom too and his demeanor turned quite sour. We ordered the tomato mozzarella "special". There was NOTHING special about it. Cold, flavorless mozzarella and unripe tomato slices. Bleh. Angry Waiter didn't even ask us how we liked it when he whisked it away. Then our mains came out- I had pistachio salmon and my mom had chicken francese. Bland, bland, bland. Rice was burnt and crispy. Everything was just blah and flavorless. Also- I had a sangria that was way too sweet and pretty disgusting. To add insult to injury, Angry Waiter continued being awful. When we asked him why he was angry, he gave the world's most annoying un-apology: "I'm sorry you think that". This whole thing wouldn't be so big of a deal if the meal was cheap- yet no- the bill came to $105. I don't think I have ever complained to a manager about a meal, but the whole thing became too much to handle! We talked to the manager afterwards who acted somewhat similar to Angry Waiter- lots of non-apologies including "We haven't gotten any complaints tonight". Ok- just because no one complained doesn't mean jack. You should pride yourself on rave reviews, not just implicit silence. It seems most people have come to expect mediocre and uninspired meals on vacation. She gave us a 15% coupon for next time, but there is a snowball's chance in HELL that we will ever come back. Long story short: If you want food that is better than mediocre, this is NOT the place for you.

Had a dinner for two on a Sunday night. The place was fairly busy but we were seated right away. The food was solidly good. Tri-colour cauliflower salad was very large and paired well with goat cheese, pine nuts and a mix of greens and fresh kale.. Potato gnocci with roasted vegetables were light on the truffle butter sauce and heavy on vegetable flavour, which I liked. There was a shareable flatbread with cherry tomatoes and fresh mozzarella, which once again was quite good and we got sides of mashed potatoes, asparagus and broccolini, nothing to complain about there as well. Creme brulee was not the best I've ever had, but not the worst either, it was definitely helped by a nice serving of fresh berries on a side. Chocolate chip pie on the other hand was really good. All in all a good deal of food fairly reasonably priced, but the best part was our waitress, who was extremely accomodating and attentive. I'd definitely return next time we are in Chatham.

I have eaten at the Wild Goose multiple times and I am always left slightly disappointed. The chowder and cocktails are awesome, but the entrees are nothing special. Service is good. The deck and inside are very nice as well. We usually swing by for soup and a salad, but I wouldn't make it a destination...

Stayed at the Cranberry Inn and this was in walking distance from our lodging. We sat on the porch outside and had a great experience although with the fans blowing it did get quite chilly for summer. I ordered the wasabi shrimp as an appetizer and my boyfriend had mussels; we then had the salmon and duck as our entrees. The butter they serve with bread is amazing-they whip it with some honey so it has a nice subtle sweetness to it- I ate almost all the bisquits because it was really a treat! I would recommend all the dishes that I ate; also the server was polite, funny, friendly, nice and very professional and made the experience very pleasant! I will recommend this restaurant to all my family and friends who ever get into Chatham :)

Scallop roll: not to be missed. Tastefully fried and paired with some of the most outstanding fries I've had to-date. Chowder: Good, but skimpy on the clams, though the consistency was creamy and not-too-heavy. The outdoor seating is a definite plus, setting it apart from other similar joints, and the waiting staff were friendly, attentive, and helpful. Overall a great summer dining experience.

AWFUL SERVICE, NOT FOR CHILDREN. We were told that this place would be good for young kids. I don't know about your child, but ours has a hard time sitting and waiting over 45 minutes for her pasta and sauce to come out. I had to go find the waitress (my daughter wouldn't sit any longer in her highchair) to ask where her food was! I would not come back unless I was looking for a long casual dinner without my child.

We had a nice time here. We spent an hour or so just having drinks and appetizers before ordering food, and the waitress didn't mind and was very accommodating. The food was quite good, but a little bit pricey - we had an exceptional meal the next night at a restaurant in Provincetown, for quite a bit less. Still, it's a great location and a good place for a nice dinner in Chatham.

We decided to try this place for lunch after the 4th of July parade. Most of the places in town were packed, but the Goose was able to seat us right away. After walking by this place may times, I assumed for some reason that it was expensive and fancy; something about that golden goose on the sign out front made me think that. We checked out the lunch menu, it was reasonable, so we decided to give it a try. The THREE of us were seated at a nice table by the window. A pleasant server come right over and took our drink order: 3 waters, 2 beers, 1 lemonade. a few minutes later she brought back 2 beers and 2 waters and then disappeared. A few minutes later we flagged her down. We reminded her about the 3rd water and the lemonade, she apologized and brought it right out... in a broken glass. On to our food order, same thing happened. We ordered 3 bowls of chowder, she only brought us 2! The rest of the lunch order was correct. One of us had a salad and the other two had a Turkey BLT wrap. All of us really enjoyed our food once it arrived. Bottom Line: the food was good, reasonably priced, maybe the server was just having an off day.

As a few other people have noted I'm surprised this place wasn't more crowded. Pricey but what isn't in Chatham. I heard that the old Chef from Chatham Bars went there and apparently that has helped it get busier. Food was pretty good, service was good and like the outdoor area too. Figure out how to make a better bar scene for after hours and this could be a new hot spot.

Two locals left work early for a fun afternoon in Chatham. We chose the Wild Goose Tavern because of the historic atmosphere, too bad we didn't check the yelp reviews first. Draft beer and drinks were good, as was the tavern atmosphere, we should have stopped there. We both ordered the pastrami and swiss toasted sandwiches. One of us got the fries and the other asked for a vegetable alternative and was given the choice of asparagus or carrots, for an up charge, went ahead with the asparagus. The food arrived In a timely fashion, but the pastrami was so full of gristle and fat that one of us had to spit the mess into her napkin. Opened the sandwich to see pastrami pieces that should have been in the garbage. Called the waiter, he went to speak to the chef, then came back to tell us "this is how we serve it", and offered to make us another sandwich. We declined and before he could take the mess away, we asked for the manager. He went to find her and came back to tell us she was In a meeting. However, it was't too long before she came over to our table. She didn't introduce herself, but asked us about the food, which we described and showed. She explained that this pastrami comes preportioned and packaged, and that's the way it is, and that we were not the first to return the sandwiches this week. She offered to take them off our bill as if we would have paid for their poor quality food, which really was Inedible. Why offer such poor quality food, how could a chef even allow this to leave the kitchen?

Wasn't really impressed with "The Wild Goose". Ate here on a Saturday evening in July. Service was good and we were seated within 10 minutes (we had no reservation). The waiter brought to the table warm rolls with butter which sad to say was the best part of the evening. My boyfriend ordered the tuna tartar which he said was delicious and a special called the sea of love which was medley of fish with pasta. His entree was $32 and lacked a lot of flavor. His words - it was very bland. I didn't have an app and ordered the pistachio salmon. The salmon portion was tiny! Probably about have the size of a regular portion. The asparagus was just okay and the rice tasted like rice a roni. For $26 I expected something better. We did not stay for dessert. I wish I had made a reservation at one of the better restaurants in town and not waited until the last minute. I won't eat here again. Nice place, but the food is not worth the prices. Sorry!! PS I wanted to give 1 star, but my boyfriend said I should give 2 as he liked his appetizer.

The Chatham Squire was packed and noisy so we headed across the street to the Wild Goose Tavern. Our server, Morgan was delightful, super sweet, checked on us several times and was very attentive. Being the day after Thanksgiving we had to order the turkey flatbread. We also ordered the curried chicken salad. Both were decent portion sizes and well presented. They tasted great too. Even though the restaurant was full, we only waited a few minutes for a table and the acoustics were delightful with a little jazz in the background. There was a mix of families and couples. The tables near the front enjoy the pleasure of a fire in the fireplace. We would return in a heartbeat. Great food, service and overall experience.

The wait was long but it was Friday night and there are plenty of things to do while you wait (they give you a buzzer which works about 3 minute walk away). The food was so good and the service was excellent. I got the surf and turf and it was the perfect size. The steak was so good and cooked perfectly and the shrimp were seasoned just right. We also had the chicken lettuce wraps as an app and they were so good. I would definately come back to eat here again,

Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch/brunch here. They had a special brunch menu on our Sunday visit a little after noon. I had a delightful pesto fritatta with mozerella and tomato. It was also served with a muffin and home fries. Also in our group, a juicy cheeseburger was enjoyed. We had a little bit of a wait for the outdoor seating, but that's because we had a small dog with us, and she had to sit on the other side of the patio fence from our table. Service was good even though it was fairly crowded. And the prices were surprisingly reasonable given its prime location in downtown Chatham. Parking is very hard to find in the whole area though.

A bit of a disappointment. We can forgive the overly loud dining room, as there seems to have been several large parties celebrating something the evening we visited. We can even forgive the somewhat slow service we received. But it was very annoying that the menu they had posted outside is quite different than the one we got once we were seated. When we made our reservation, it was based upon the fact that my wife was really craving a lobster dinner, and their posted menu featured the diner's choice of either a boiled or baked lobster dinner. When we got seated and looked over the *actual* menu, that choice wasn't there. We asked our waitress about this and were told that it wasn't available. I simply do not understand this. There were half a dozen dishes on the menu featuring lobster, so it isn't as though lobster wasn't available. But a basic, straightforward lobster dinner is a staple of fine dining in New England. Nice restaurants in New England can be counted on to have just a basic lobster dinner featured alongside other seafood dishes. My wife ordered a pasta dish that had lobster in it, and she liked it well enough for the occasion, but it wasn't what she really wanted and thought she'd be able to get from the posted menu outside. My filet mignon had very good flavor, but was very dry. And I was surprised that on a $30 filet mignon dinner, there wasn't more of an attempt to include better side dishes. The mashed potato and asparagus that accompanied the meat were both eminently forgettable, almost as if they were an afterthought. I was also a little surprised that for a restaurant that offers a full bar, they only had basic coffee to offer after the meal. They had no options for cappuccino or espresso. Again, you'd expect a nice restaurant to offer these things. The omission is puzzling. Overall, the impression we got was that this place wants to keep the turnstiles moving as much or more than they want to provide a really quality fine dining experience to their clientele. It was serviceable, but far from being anything special. My recommendation would be to check out the other fine dining establishments Chatham boasts.

The food is very good here. Specifically; the lobster quesadillas stand out in my mind. The Wild Goose also has good light drinks (sangria) to enjoy on the patio on a nice day.

I went here and found a long strand of hair in my food. I asked the server to take the food back and I declined to order anything else because I lost my appetite. I was shocked that this establishment didn't comp the dish and instead took 1/2 off. I wasn't looking for them to comp my whole bill, but to at least take the meal off that I only took one bite of.

(2)Christopher H.

(4)Megan C.

(2)Linda M.
We ate there last night and had a very disappointing and expensive experience. The fish was raw, the orders were inaccurate, the wine was mediocre and it was exorbitantly expensive. We would not recommend it.

Stayed at the Wayside Inn and decided to try their restaurant. Had soup and salads and we weren't disappointed. Everything was fresh and reasonably priced.

Regardless, our search for a good restaurant in the Chatham/Orleans area continues (we've given up on finding something "great")...

we had lunch..oysters on half shell, fresh delicious. clam chowder creamy flavorful, fried cod sandwich- perfect light, fried to perfection, fish tacos.full of flavor, good portions. All were excellent. Waitress was so friendly and helpful with suggestions but without being pushy.great cranberry margarita. We immediately looked at dinner menu for a return meal..

Go here.
(5)Timothy D.

(3)Jennifer O.

(5)Chey B.
Delicious food and a great view. I had the tuna salad sandwich and my husband had the clam chowder. All very fresh and quick, wonderful service on top of that.
(5)Steve J.
(3)Woodman M.

(3)Panos H.
Waiter was quite on top of situation. Great martins. Onion soup and Atlantic cod were great. Flatbreads less so. Good family tavern.
(3)Allie D.
(4)Ed B.
So so. We were seated in the small front room and it was super loud. The acoustics are awful in there. Our waiter was mediocre at best. The food was good but not great. It was also Chatham expensive. Weak beer list too. The clam chowder was excellent.
(3)Justin P.
Would be a solid 3.5 if half stars were an option. The food was ok, nothing spectacular. The service was good and relatively fast. We went during the heart of the summer and they were able to sit us right away. Definately a perk in my book when you have 3 young children.
(3)Mike C.
A little pricey for lunch, however our meals were great. The mac n cheese was awesome and I was told the pastrami and Swiss sandwich was the best ever. Also very good Chowda soup.
(4)Tracey T.
Loved it!!! We sat outside in gorgeous weather and had a great lunch. Staff so nice and professional, food great, and atmosphere!! Can't wait to go back!!
(5)Nate B.
Good cocktails if you just want to sit and have a drink. Chowder is very good also. Good atmosphere inside and a great location right downtown.
(4)Kelsey B.
Super delicious! I had the cape codder salad (really good!) and a flatbread which was also delicious. My mom had oysters which she said were great and they looked like they were a very good size. Overall it was very delicious, well priced, and had a great atmosphere...especially on the porch. Will definitely be returning!
(5)Scott S.
This place offers a solid lunch. Service is good as is the location. Eat outside and you will be able to enjoy all the sights of Main Street. I must say for the cost, the food is just OK, but I think here you pay for the atmosphere as well...what that is worth is up to you.
(4)Lou G.
(5)Leo D.
Thank you for providing a delicious lunch today. Great food. Terrific service. We will return soon
(5)Kate L.
(1)Sean P.
(1)Lindsay H.

Enjoy!
(4)Jaclyn P.
(3)Justin K.
(3)Sean O.
Been here 2x - lunch & dinner. Decent food. Nice ambience. Can get a little noisy. Good for kids. Food takes a little longer to come out than one might expect.

(1)John D.

(3)Kerri H.
(4)Sarah H.
(2)Charles F.
Really wanted to like this place as the location and service are great. Dining room is cold, drafty and dated. Chowder is passable. Rest of our order lacked seasoning and could have easily come from a store bought package - perhaps it did. Again, waitress was fantastic!
(2)Jessica D.
(3)Cara Larry S.
(2)Kari K.

I don't think I need to repeat the same comments made by so many other reviewers. Get a salad spinner. No one wants watery salad so the dressing yields no flavor. Space out the servings so not everything is served at once. I just started on my cocktail when out comes the clam chowder, followed on its heels by the petite salad, now here comes the entrées! Honestly, there was no reason to rush us, the place was empty. The chowder so raved by a few other reviewers was to my taste like canned Progresso. Not bad, just so blah. Compare to the Chatham Squire's chowder for night and day... My wife had the "Sea of Love", and I had scallops. Tasteless and mediocre. Presentation was good for both; just lacking seasoning and flavor. We recently bought a house in Harwich and have tried many excellent restaurants in Chatham and Harwich, and the Goose was such an expensive disappointment.

Very good mussels, great service, good fig and prosciutto flatbread. Overall great experience. Also one of only a few places serving food at 4:30pm!

Best French fries ever! Very crispy outside and soft inside. Good vegetarian options also. I had the Tomato Mozzarella sandwich. Yum.

No variety of beers. I ordered a cheesecake but I think it was a slice of butter.

Great food! Nice patio dining! Beautiful murals in the dining room! Food is reasonably priced and the staff is attentive and knowledgeable! Been there several times and always leave pleased!

Had dinner there. People greeting us were very nice. Wait person described food and portions perfectly as we weren't real hungry. Got their Roman flatbread and Goose Fries. Soooooo yummy.

Absolutely terrible. Milk was sour. Service was slow. Hamburger was burnt. Cheese felt like plastic. Not the place you want to go. So many good restaurants around. This one sucks.

Did drinks and apps on the patio. Lobster quesadilla was good, whatever watermelon drink I had was great.
