Best sesame chicken, egg rolls, and dumplings around. They have a great dinner combo deal and are really fast with delivery. Seriously though...the sesame chicken. I could write a sonnet about that chicken. So delicious. And the egg rolls. I have searched Somerville and Cambridge over to find good sesame chicken and egg rolls, and had all but given up hope until I tried Wok n Roll. Their crab rangoon aren't bad either. Hurry and get yours today! *sparkling smile*

This place catered a workshop I had in Central Square. It was ok, but just ok. We have previously used Pepper Sky, which has amazing fried rice, but this fried rice was pretty bland, and I didn't fight to take any home. The fried chicken was good, but everything seemed to taste the same, and I had to douse it all in duck sauce (which I typically don't even use it. Not a fan... there is much better nearby. But I never turn down free Chinese food!!

I would recommend this place to anyone looking for an excellent Chinese food experience. Big portions of high quality hot food. Found it with a Google search. So glad we took a chance on it. Impressed my wife, who is a very picky Chinese food fan. Will definitely go back whenever we can.

I just moved to Cambridge and I needed a Chinese takeout fix. Wok N Roll was nearby, had decent reviews, and delivered, so I placed an order: House special chow foon with an order of wonton soup. Maybe I've been let down by all the takeout Chinese I've had in the past. Maybe I underestimated the quality of food in Boston. Either way, I wasn't prepared for how good this food was. The chicken, beef, and shrimp in my chow foon were (gasp) REAL meat, not the spongey meal-like substance often found in takeout Chinese. The noodles, were fat, piping hot, cooked perfectly, and adequately sauced. Hell, even the $3 bowl of soup was good. From what I can tell, Wok N Roll puts a little TLC into all the food they make, which is more than can be said about a lot of similar restaurants. I'll definitely eat again.

The service was good, the food was disappointing. I ordered the vegetable udon noodles, and it was great until I found the chicken underneath. Not a happy surprise for vegetarians! I also had Ma Po Tofu, which was honestly a bit bland, the container was full of it, I think it would've been better on rice. The vegetable dumpling appetizer I enjoyed quite a bit! Though over all the Oreo Mousse Cake desert was totally worth it, to be completely honest though I did have to order food 2 hours later because I was starving again! Will have to keep searching for some good Chinese delivery in Cambridge!

This place used to be a lot better. I got the general gau's combo with crab rangoon and vegetable fried rice. As others have said, you get a lot of food for your money. That being said, the sauce on the chicken was entirely overbearing. All I could taste was the sauce and it wasn't a particularly good taste. Some of the chicken was also overcooked. It was a huge disappointment. The crab rangoons were alright, but I'm not sure how much crab was in there. The fried rice was mediocre. All in all I'd say try some place else before going here.

  • Teri L.

Absolutely love this place! I've ordered delivery on multiple occasions and the food always came faster than quoted and delicious. The crab rangoons are nice an crispy. Veggie lo mein is light. And the kung pao chicken will warm you up. Delivery drivers have always been very friendly. Really happy with the experiences I've had so far.

You know, that was damn tasty. If you're looking for really fried, saucy, heavy American-style Chinese food that is (I got the General Gau). You know how long it's been since I had an egg roll? Just what I needed on this muggy, hot day. But, OMG it transported me back to the first time I had Chinese food as a child. They do it up right here.

Excellent Chinese takeout. The food tasted fresh and yummy...good quality versions of your typical American Chinese takeout. We ordered the sesame chicken and Mongolian beef, both as "dinner specials." This is definitely the way to go...for an extra couple bucks, you get rice, an appetizer (we got the eggroll and crab rangoon (you get 2), both very tasty), and a soup (choice of hot and sour or wonton). Delivery time was average (about 45 minutes), but the food arrived piping hot and the driver was friendly.

If the adorable name didn't get you, perhaps some inexpensive and delicious food will. Have it be known - I have only ordered delivery from WNR (via Foodler), but found them to be speedy, extremely accurate, and delicious! In the past, I have ordered orange chicken, crab ragoon, and scallion pancakes from them and five starred everything. The orange chicken is the perfect combination of sweet and sour (**does not come with rice**), crab ragoon to be creamy and crunchy, and scallion pancakes to be out of this world. If you are looking for a new place to order from and want some damn good food, give WNR a try.

I had the general gau combo, including fried rice, spring roll, and hot/sour soup. The price is good for the amount of food, but the general gau chicken was disappointing. Some of the chicken was very dry and hard and difficult to chew (probably a combination of over-fried and not freshly made), and the sauce was too over-bearing on the taste buds. The soup was good, the spring roll was good, the fried rice mediocre. I'll give them another try but will definitely order something different.

Again, only for takeout. In addition to the information from my last review, I've decided that I've gotten enough tasty, speedy, veggie-ful, and economical things from here to upgrade to five stars. I can't really think of anything more I could want from a takeout Chinese place.

I've been looking for a decent green tea ice cream everywhere, finally found it here. Order by the pint and they're not too expensive. Haven't had anything else from here, so I can't comment (explaining 4 stars)

I have come here for several years because the moo shi is so fresh and tasty. It's a bit of a hole in the wall, but everything's worth coming back for.

We ordered here for the first time and were pleased with the meal/delivery. I highly recommend getting one of the combo take-out meals. It was a good value to get one appetizer, soup, main dish and rice for one price. The delivery was really quick and the food arrived hot (maybe a little too hot). The food was also enjoyable, but I wish the chicken and eggplant dish was spicier after choosing "medium" on the heat scale. Wok n Roll has the potential to be our "go to" Chinese takeout joint.

For what it is (Americanized Chinese) it's not too bad, but I wasn't particularly impressed either. I much prefer traditional Chinese cuisine, but even so my dish was just really bland. I got the dinner platter, which has a decent variety of food with soup, side (chicken wing for me) and entree plus rice. I found myself eating just the entree by itself (Hunan Spicy Pork) because frankly, if I ate it with rice, I could only taste the rice. Yes, it was that bland. The chicken wing was also kind of dry. I will give them points for service speed. Probably about 10 min when I received the entirety of the platter (soup was out and served in less than 5 min). Decor was nice and clean. They appeared to have a downstairs area but I didn't see how expansive that might be. Seems like it could be reasonable for Porter Square, so I might give it a second chance with another menu item. However the price for quality/portion just doesn't seem worth it to me right now. Food was quite underwhelming.

  • Austin K.

Not bad and has food ready quick, but there is another place about 10-15 minutes walk away (Zoe's Chinese on Beacon Street) that has better tasting food, is cheaper, and has at least slightly larger portions. Definitely would recommend Zoe's over Wok and Roll.

  • Kevin R.

I've ordered delivery from here multiple times. The consistency of quality is terrible. Don't get me wrong - the food *can* be good. If I consistently got the same quality General Tso's from here as the best I've ever gotten from here I'd say it would be a 3 to 4 star place. However, I have many times received completely burnt / extremely dry / hard General Tso's multiple times. Many other times, I have gotten General Tso's that is made up mostly of the breading. If I had to put a percentage to the times I've gotten terrible General Tso's from here it would be 95% of the time. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 is because of the one single time it was good. You're better off ordering Chinese elsewhere, or paying a little more for Thai food from Sweet Ginger off Bow St.

Food is great, but their delivery service workers are really rude. This one guy yelled and curesd at me for making him wait 7minutes, even after I apologize.

WNR is at the top of their tier, which I'd call "cheap American-style Chinese take-out". Super consistent, always good, always slightly better than you'd expect from appearances (and name!). I've had most everything vegetarian and seafood on the menu, and there's nothing bad, though obviously I like some things more than other. Pro tip: try the kung pao shrimp. The shrimp are plentiful and large. The peppers are never overcooked. I'm also a big fan of their crab rangoon. Delivery is super-fast, friendly, and professional. Would order from again. Have never eaten there, though I've sometimes waited inside while waiting for take-out to be ready. I probably wouldn't eat there. Very clean, and not problematic in any way, just no atmosphere.

This place is excellent. It may not be a gourmet sit down place but it's great for takeout and delivery. The delivery guys are prompt. I always get the scallion pancakes and they are the bees knees. The lo mein here is also great. My go to for Chinese.

  • Elaine S.

we had wok n roll delivered tonight and were pretty disappointed. maybe partly because the delivery took a long time, so the food was cold and a little soggy by the time it arrived. the szechuan wontons were so bland and not "steamed and seared," as described, they were deep fried and greasy, and nothing about the wontons or the sauce were spicy. don't know why they came with a (bland) peanut sauce either. likewise, the hunan spicy pork was not spicy at all (and we selected the spiciest option while ordering). the spring roll was good tho, after reheating in the toaster oven. would not recommend or order from this place again. i just feel like american chinese food, at the very least, should not be bland...just give me the MSG like you're supposed to!!!!

  • Mike F.

I agree with what others have said about not getting enough rice. I used to order from here and they would give you the standard takeout container size of rice that you're used to getting from every other Asian restaurant. At some point they switched from the normal amount to the half size, which is disappointing. I don't even know how they found takeout containers that size, they must have had to invent them!

This place is simply OUT OF SIGHT! I stopped in, purely by accident, and had the Mongolian Beef lunch special. First, they HAVE a beef dish as a lunch special- yes! Next, they serve lunch specials until 3pm. Best of all, they give you a HUMONGOUS amount of FOOD, AND it's REALLY GOOD! Best Mongolian Beef I've had around these here parts. Crab Rangoon wasn't half bad either. I really enjoyed my lunch! Nicely decorated. Grumpy old man working, he wasn't all "that" bad, though. I've experienced much worse. ^5!

Compared to Rose's pan fried noodles, All Season's crab rangoon and Wings Over Somerville's chicken fingers, there was absolutely nothing in tonight's order that would have me returning to Wok N Roll. The hot and sour soup disappointed, the baby corn tossed under the charred (charred?) pan fried noodles tasted tinny, as though dumped from a can, and the sole soggy wonton I stole from the GF's rangoon box was chock full o' diced onion and... not much else. Awful. The silver linings? Hilariously overdone name pun, and ordering through Eat24 saved five whole bucks! But I'm a lover not a fighter, so I'll just stick with tossing the menu and moving on to greener pastures.

Welcome to the Flavor Yawnfest 2012. Quite possibly the most boring chinese food I've had. The shrimp lo mein was scattered with broken, crumbly, and sickly looking shrimp. The crab rangoons, although crunchy, were lacking in flavor and and contained not even a teaspoon of filling. The food was delivered in a reasonable time frame, but arrived with just one fortune cookie, and with no untensils. What saves the Wok from an embarassing one star review? They've got the "convenience store delivery" thing going on. Trashbags? Toothpaste? Cigarettes? They've got quite a pricy, yet extensive selection of these types of items available for delivery as well.

  • Kat V.

Still a good go-to Chinese. The delivery is fast, the prices are decent and you know what you are getting. They are not anything that will knock your socks off, but they will satiate the desire for a chinese fix. If you want authentic, go to Chinatown, if you want to kick the urge of your nagging palate and you are at home or near Porter...pick Wok N Roll.

What a disappointment!! ..I guess I'd already set myself up when I reluctantly stopped in for dinner before class after trying to eat at Rod Dee's next door (no seats!). I ended up ordering a Diet Coke, "pan-seared" vegetable dumplings, and chicken lo-mein. The soda was definitely regular and when I tried telling the waiter, he got a little adament that it was diet, so I didn't figure to argue and just barely drank any of it. The "pan-seared" dumplings were totally deep-fried, which further bummed me out. Taste was okay, though. The lo-mein however, was just awful. The noodles were so overcooked and the chicken and really all the ingredients within were 'blah'. I took a few bites and just brought the rest home, which is still sitting in my fridge. Yuck. Based on that order, I paid, after tip, $20...... $20 just for one person at a Chinese restaurant? Given, there were a ton of leftovers, but jeez, it was such an awful meal and terrible price for what I got. Never again!

The food we usually order is The Chicken and Stir Fry Vegetables Fried Chicken Wings Fried Rice - any kind Hot and Sour Soup Buddha's Delight. Chinese Mustard!!! Always fresh, always very good. They deliver f-a-s-t too.

If you're looking for authentic or gourmet, try elsewhere. If you're looking for large portions of tasty Americanized Chinese food for cheap, you've found the right place. For 13 bucks, you can get a dinner combination plate, which is much more than a plateful. One container of rice, which can be vegetable fried rice, one tray of (in my case) Sesame Chicken, one egg roll and one wonton soup. Top it off with a fortune cookie, and the price certainly is right.

This place is surprisingly good. I get takeout from here every 1-2 weeks. Their Shanghai pan fried noodles are delightful.. A great mix of slightly salty and savory. I owe thanks to the Yelper who recommended that dish! Also worth trying: Moo Goo Gai Pan (straight up, classic), House Special Lo Mein, and the House Special Soup. Wok & Roll is a solid choice for basic Chinese food in Cambridge.

Food is usually ready in 5 minutes when we eat in. The ingredients are almost always fresh and tasty. As a native chinese, I can say this is the best Chinese restaurant around Harvard and Porter Square. Mr. Chan the waiter's service is always superb. He check on us frequently. We have been coming here for 8 years.

This place not worth it to me. I payed for two appetizer combos that added up to 25.00 and it was delivery so my total was around 30.00 bucks. I thought I was going to get a huge platter of food for spending all that money. When the delivery guy came I got my food and had the nerve to ask for a tip. I got the bag and was shocked by what I saw. There were these four tiny containers of food and two soups. I was pissed that they charged so much money for something so minuscule. When I actually tasted the food it had ZERO flavor. It was so bland that I just decided to through away the rest I actually got food poisoning from this crap. The only good thing were the soups that actually had some flavor but the hot and sour soup was too greasy and syrup like which was gross. NEVER EAT HERE IF YOU WANT QUALITY SERVICE THAT IS ACTUALLY WORTH THE PRICE!!!!

  • Paloma M.

The food is ok, it's good but not wonderful, but it's very cheap and fast! VERY FAST! My food was ready in like, 5 minutes!

  • Bridget F.

Deliver is quick. But the food is clearly pre-cooked for the night and just thrown into the containers. I had Sesame Chicken and many of my "chicken pieces" were missing the chicken. The sauce covered up what must have been the burnt overcooked part. My friend ordered Sweet and Sour chicken- it was not at all what she expected. They do offer a combo dinner which gives you a small appetizer, soup, rice, and a entree for around $13-$14. It is fine for late night ordering. But would not be my first choice of places in the area to order from.

First of all, while I understand the name of the restaurant is a play on words, I find it offensive rather than humorous. Anyway, moving on... the food was not good, at all. Why? Well, the story goes like this: I searched via Yelp for a Chinese place with delivery since I was short on time and wanted some good Chinese food. I ordered online, $10 minimum with a $3 delivery fee. Doesn't sound so bad so far.. The delivery time estimation was 45-60 minutes, which I thought was long, but whatever. However, much to my surprise, my food arrived within 30 minutes. So, kudos for fast delivery. I rushed to the door to grab my takeout and was in hurry to come back to my room, so perhaps, it's my fault for not checking the contents of what I ordered. But I trusted them since it said seafood chow mien on the receipt that was attached on the outside of the bag. Then, as I open and look through the contents of my bag, I realize they gave me the wrong order! It was definitely not seafood chow mien, but some sort of seafood stir fry with no chow mien. Although I felt cheated, I thought I would give it the benefit of the doubt and just eat it anyway since I didn't have time to fuss around and call the restaurant back. Bottom line: after tasting the dish, I have one word to offer, "bleh". Shrimp wasn't fresh and was overcooked.. the overall seasoning was way too salty and just disappointing. What I learned: always look at the contents of your restaurant delivery and I wouldn't recommend ordering from Wok N Roll if you're seeking awesome Chinese food for it failed to hit the spot for me.

I asked the owner if they put cocaine in their chicken-fried rice? He said no, otherwise, he would have to charge more than $5.89. I work right by Porter Square and I can't get enough of their rice especially with the hot pepper sauce on the side, yummy. And my supervisor is addicted to the vegatable-fried rice. Friendly and best rice in Porter!

I tried this place because of the high reviews it had received on Yelp, and I have to say, I was really disappointed. Food was good, service was horrible, and prices were definitely on the high side. We ordered soups, the Pu Pu Platter to split between two, and pork fried rice. Now, I've eaten at a number of Chinese places in the area, and I don't ever remember paying more than 6-8 bucks for a large lo mein or fried rice order. At Wok N Roll, it's 10, and there is no option to order a small. I will say this, the Pu Pu Platter was well priced, and there is definitely plenty of food. It would've been great if all the food hadn't been brought to us so fast ALONG WITH THE CHECK. Definitely felt like we were being kicked out, even though we were the only people in the place on a Friday night...not surprised now. The waiter actually brought the check and seemed to pace back and forth until I paid the bill, while we were still eating. Anyway, I'm guessing most people who wrote reviews for this place got takeout, which may be a totally different experience, but as far as eating at this place, I would not recommend it to anyone.

General Tso's here tastes almost exactly like Chicken McNuggets with Sweet 'n Sour sauce. The half pint of free rice was a small consolation.

My friends in Porter love this place for take-out. I had a good experience as well, although I think it is way overpriced. For $12.85 I got the sweet and sour chicken and crab rangoon and brown rice - combo (forgo the soup for the extra rangoon!) It was exactly what the doctor ordered - the sweet & sour sauce was light and not that disgusting pink food court stuff. Despite previous reviews, I think the chicken was fresh and definitely real! And no food poisoning here :) I'd say that it's not a bad place to eat in if you have that hankering for grub. But it's not super cheap... typically $15 gets me much more chinese. :)

Yum! Went to Wok N Roll for a little pre-Slutcracker dinner. It was quick and delicious! I accidentally ordered 2 fried things so would have done that differently and mixed in a little veggie action, but the dumplings in particular were wonderful. Service was friendly and overall I loved this place. Can't wait to go back!

This place is our standard safety "yep, its Chinese night". We order from this place probably every other week. They deliver fast and are friendly. They share the same delivery staff that does Passage to India. The Wonton Soup, while very simple, is quite delicious and enjoyable! Clean, hot and yummy! Nearly everything we've gotten from this place has been great! Soups, rice, lo mein, you name it. Its standard chinese food take out fare... and its done well. My personal favorites are: -Wonton Soup -General Gau's Chicken -Chicken Lo Mein -Sesame Chicken (though a little syrupy) -Peking Ravioli -Moo Shi You can order on foodler.com which makes this place another gem! Online ordering and I can use a credit card! Fantastic! One time we did pick up, not delivery and saw them making the Crab Rangoon right there on one of the tables towards the back (complete with a drape making sure it was sanitary). This made me smile since they MAKE stuff there, not just fry up pre-made order bulk stuff. The only thing I wish they did, was also give you bread with your orders. My old chinese food place from college gave you small rolls with every order.... totally unnecessary, but appreciated!

Good food for the price, but a pitiful amount of white rice accompanies the entrees. 2-3x as much rice is needed. Cmon wok n roll, its the cheapest item anyway...

Warning: this place is NOT an asian karaoke bar! I have always wanted it to be, but it's a take out Chinese restaurant. I have seen their delivery time fluctuate greatly depending on which part of Cambridge is being serviced. When I ordered my first (and only) lunch from this place, it took over an hour. The food was bland and boring, and I think Trader Joe's frozen stuff has more flavor. The rice was tasteless, and to be honest, I forgot what my main dish was-- how memorable. The true test was the Crab Rangoon, which were sadly crabless. :(

I can't believe I have never reviewed Wok N Roll! Food is delicious, I am especially fond of the crab rangoons, cashew chicken, Singapore noodles and Szechuan dumplings. Delivery is always quick, the dining room is small but clean. Eating in is totally convenient if you travel through Porter Square. It is a little more expensive than other local Chinese places, but worth the price for the large portions and great taste. Totally recommend when you need a Chinese food fix!

I ordered vegetable dumplings and pan-fried veggie noodles for take-out. The dumplings were okay. Not great. The noodles, on the other hand.... I opened the styrofoam box and there was this mess of dry, cold, rock-hard RAMEN NOODLES. Obviously cooked hours and hours beforehand (and at one point soaked in oil, as they'd turned an alarming bronze color), sitting on top of some fresh steaming veggies + lotus root. Well, damn, if I'd known Wok n Roll interprets "pan-fried lo mein noodles" to mean "some ancient ramen," I would have steered clear.

This is a new favorite of mine. I love fake Chinese food (it's comforting like chicken noodle soup), but I hate Panda Express because really, it just sucks as food. I'm giving it 5 stars because it's not even trying to compete with actual Chinese food, and I love the name! In a nutshell, this place makes awesome food, for the fake Chinese food category. The ingredients aren't sketchy and taste fresh, there's sauce but not too much sauce, thigns aren't overbreaded, and it has your predictable fake Chinese food favorites. Most surprisingly, everything is just cooked really well - I can tell that the cooks know how to make actual Chinese food, and the techniques spill over. My favorite is the Hunan pork. I've never had any of the vegetarian dishes (there are plenty of options), but a couple of my friends had the sesame tofu and Buddha's delight. Neither of them really cared for their dishes - maybe another sign that the cook used Chinese techniques when he could, since IMO Chinese food isn't terribly well-suited to vegetarianism. The prices are pretty good too, for the area. Lunch special is $7.95!

I was requested at the last minute (11:30am) to cater a lunch meeting for 15 people. Wok N Roll was able to quickly cook and deliver the food in under an hour! I am impressed!!! Everyone in the meeting was thrilled with the food and we all found it very delicious. It's so much better than ordering boring pizzas for a meeting. I've ordered from them in the past, so I knew the food would be fresh and quick. I ordered the catering trays of Crab Rangoon, General Gau's Chicken, Beef w/ Broccoli, Sesame Chicken, Vegetable Fried Rice, Vegetable Lo Mein, and Singapore Rice Noodles. The General Gau's chicken is the best and I love their lo mein. It was the right amount of food for 15 people. Again, this was $270 worth of food and I got it in under an hour.

  • Matteo B.

I've ordered from this place at least ten times, and have tried nearly every dinner combination platter they have. I'd give it 5 starts except the 'General Gau's' chicken platter was absolutely atrocious, and the fried rice came soggy. Multiple times they've messed up the order with the delivery. Once not bringing rice, other times mixing the drinks, or not including it at all.. Negativity out of the way, the Beef & Broccoli is the reason why I keep ordering from this place. It's great. Pretty good prices, too.

Amazing food. Amazing staff. People who say ANYTHING bad about this place at all do not have any idea what they are talking about. I have eaten here hundreds of times over the past 5 years and have always been extremely happy.

I've ordered from them a few times. Very average. Here's a breakdown: + Hunan Spicy Pork: best thing I've tried on their menu + General Gau's Chicken: not very good + Kung Pao Shrimp: decent + Teriyaki Steak Skewers: ok + Hot and Sour Soup: average + Thai Iced Tea: the worst I've ever sampled So not my favorite, but as everyone mentions, they are fast, consistent, and a convenient choice so its likely I'll order again.

I haven't ordered Chinese food in the Boston area since 2008. There's a reason for that: it's all crap, and I visit home frequently enough (where my favorite Chinese spot is) to get a fix. And yet, one night, after much hemming and hawing - Thai or Indian? Sushi or pasta? - we settled on finding a good Chinese spot on Foodler. It was down between Wok n' Roll and one other - Wok n' Roll won out on the sheer basis that it was closer to home (and thus, delivery would be faster). Let me tell you, this folks do a nice General Gau. Big, juicy pieces of chicken, the sauce is a bit oddly sticky but it's spicy so I'm over it. The food tastes freshly made. The hot & sour soup was also yummy, but skip the fried rice...it was just, well, sad. I've not given up on my hometown favorite just yet, but Wok n' Roll is my new local pinch hitter.

I would like to reaffirm my love for the Wok N Roll. "Authentic" Chinese food it is not, but delicious it is. I ordered from Wok N Roll last night in celebration of Jewish Christmas, complete with a chick flick starring Sandra Bullock. The movie sucked but the food made up for it. I placed my order via Foodler, and 20 minutes later it arrived: a combination platter of wonton soup, 2 plump crab rangoon filled with savory cream cheese from heaven, and chicken and green beans. I ordered my dish light on the oil and Wok n Roll followed my instructions, resulting in a light meal and lack of food hangover this morning. The wontons in the soup are a little too doughy for my liking but I think they are filled with chicken, which I do like, and the broth is really rich and tasty. I can't wait to devour my leftovers tonight. The food here is just fresher and lighter than the cheaper options in the area, so I can get my Chinese fix and still feel good about it -- it's worth the slightly higher price tag. For those about to Wok, we salute you

Completely awesome. There is 15% off your first order on foodler: foodler.com/ref/13243d7/… The orange chicken, wonton soup and fried rice was great. Crab ragoons were a little heavy on the onions/celery. Peking Ravioli was excellent as well.

To put it simply...I love wok n roll. It's so hard finding delivery " chinese" food in the Boston area that is consistently tasty - but here it is! The general gau, sesame, and orange chicken are all crisp and evenly coated in yummy sauce. The scallion pancakes are a must have...which is typically not an item I even notice! On top of all that...the delivery time is SO FAST. It's almost unbelievable! (Example - I ordered through foodler at 7:17pm, and it was at my door in Davis at 7:31. And so freshly made!)

Chinese food in Boston sucks. Ever since I moved here three years ago, I've been looking for greasy, crappy Chinese food of the kind I ordered through undergrad and grad school in Indiana. After trying a bajillion places, I finally found Wok and Roll. Their egg rolls are gigantic and so tasty. Their sesame chicken is fried and gooey, just like it should be. The veggies are huge and colorful. Wok and Roll is my new favorite takeout place. The meatless fried rice they offered as a side was a little flavorless, though. I'll just order steamed rice in the future.

The Cambridge/Somerville area has a lot of Chinese restaurants, but they range from terrible to just OK. However, WnR is pretty good. Nothing groundbreaking, but if you're in the mood for some crowd pleasers (crab rangoon, sesame chicken, fried rice, egg rolls, etc) then this is the place. Delivery is super quick and portions are generous.

I'm a frequent customer but have never stepped foot in the restaurant or even talked to an employee on the phone. I've done my ordering online, and have probably ordered a good 15-20 times. I'll be honest, I was all about their peking ravioli, and I tend to just find something I like and stick with it. Sadly, they didn't stick with it. The quality has slipped the last several times I've ordered - not that it was high quality to begin with per se. Delivery is quick, portions are decent, prices are ok, location is convenient. None of these things equals excitement, but probably one of the better options amongst a sad sack of choices for Chinese food in the area.

If you're drunk or desperate this place is great, but it's not where you order for GOOD Chinese food. They deliver quickly, so that's nice. Be warned, their Lo Mein is super garlicky. It's kind of gross. Like I said, this place is okay in a pinch, but I'm seriously looking for a better delivery place in the area.

Ever since my 4am Toronto brush with Ho-Lee-Chow, I'm weary of Chinese restaurant puns. I therefore avoided this place for the better part of the year I lived next door to it. Then one day, I was like, you know what would be good right now? Crappy Chinese food! You know how far I feel like going for it? Twenty feet! I was quite pleasantly surprised. The place is always empty, but they seem to be in the take-out business. So far I've ordered some deliciously satisfying wonton soup, a slightly syrupy but nonetheless tasty general gau's chicken, some not-as-bland-as-it-could-have-been fried tofu with mixed vegetables, and, alas, some disappointingly bland crab rangoons. As cheap as crappy Chinese goes, and open relatively late. Wok on, baby.

We ordered takeout from Wok N Roll for two reasons: (1) I was going to be in Porter Square for shopping and (2) my partner likes the restaurant's steamed dumplings (known on the menu as Peking dumplings). We ordered the dumplings, crabmeat Rangoon, and orange chicken. The dumplings were great! The orange chicken was okay. The crabmeat Rangoon were not good -- too much pastry and not enough crabmeat for my taste. In other words, too crunchy, not enough smooth and tasty. We also received rice and fortune cookies, all packaged up nicely. Wok N Roll kindly, courteously, and efficiently handled an unexpected payment problem when it turned out I had left my wallet at home.

Fast food style chineese food but it is good.

The place has a cheesy name and looks like a dive, but when I ducked in for dinner on the evening of Christmas Day, the service was excellent and fast and the food was quite good. Then again, the place was almost empty, so perhaps the quality degrades when it's more busy. Still, I'd certainly be willing to go again.

I ordered from foodler one day because it was the only restaurant who had Green tea MOCHI AND ICE CREAM! I'm a green tea whore and I'm also a spring roll whore so for a restaurant to win me over, they got to have those! They were surprisingly fast. They are in Porter, I'm near Lechmere and tehy were here in 25 minutes and then 15 in the 2nd and 3rd order! Awesome! The General Gau chicken is the best I've tried so far in my life! It is really sweet and very well tempered. It actually has CHUNKS OF CHICKEN and you can actually taste it! Also, it doesn't come with broccoli (which I hate) so it definitely won points for that. Instead, it comes with green and red pepper. TASTY! They are a little bit pricey for what I am used to, but the quantity makes it totally worth it! SO MUCH FOOD! Their spring roll is good, not fantastic like their Gau, but good. It is big! Really big! And crunchy, without being greasy. The wonton soup it came with was also one of the best! It seriously competes with Yenchings's (one of my favorites). Now, the green tea ice cream. I don't know. It have been kind of a hit or miss the 3 times I ordered. You know when you unfreeze and ice cream and freeze it again, then it gets weird? Yeah... 2 out of 3 times I ordered, I had this impression. The 3rd time, when they got it right, it was delicious, although I think the quantity is small for 3 bucks. But I still love this restaurant, I'm so addicted to them!

This was surprisingly good Chinese food. The dumplings were a little too doughy, but the scallion pancakes were great, and the chicken with cashews was a huge, delicious portion.

A nice find in Porter Square. The General Gau's (Tso's, Tsao's, whatever you call it where you're originally from) was very tasty, actually had some kick to it and the texture was just right - not too fatty, not too crispy, not too chewy. The shrimp with cashews had nice large shrimp cooked to perfection and a tangy sauce that made even the broccoli taste good. The teriyaki beef skewers were very tender and maintained REAL BEEF FLAVOR....at most places you can ID the teryaki but can't tell if you're eating beef, pork, chicken or leather. And the pork fried rice had a nice balance of pork and vegetables.....and egg, which I absolutely love in fried rice. Parking is a disaster in this area, as you know if you live around here so plan on delivery which is pretty fast. Prices are a little high but portions and quality justify it. Looking forward to some leftovers tonight.

Ok, so I hate going to laundromats. HATE. But what does this have to do with Wok N Roll? Well the only way my husband can lure me into doing laundry is by promising dinner at Wok N Roll afterwards. They have good sized lunch and dinner plates that are a really good deal: soup, egg roll, rice all included for $7 or $11 respectively. The staff is really nice, albeit a little kooky at times. They also have a good amount of "healthy" and vegetarian options so you can leave full and feeling like your arteries are still intact =P My favorite: Chicken wonton soup (only place in Boston that I know of that has it), sesame tofu w/ steamed broccoli, brown rice. Mmmm.... When's laundry day? =)

Holy rangoons Batman! This place is basically the bomb diggity. I might be biased because I get the same thing almost every time, but if you are looking for some truly marvelous Chinese standards - GO TO THE WOK. Crab Rangoon, Peking Ravioli, Teriyaki Beef, House Fried Rice, and any choice of Lo mein - now THAT'S what's for dinner. The rice and lo mein seem pretty fresh and probably cooked on the spot? - unlike the typical dumpy Chinese joint where the food has been dipped in grease and then cooked in more grease and then left to sit out for 6 hours and then reheated, twice... but I digress.... In other news, I cannot upheave enough verbage to encapsulate how near and dear the crab rangoons are to my heart. If you are going to order just one thing on Wok N Roll's menu, definitely grab their crab rangoons. They are BY FAR the freshest, best tasting, most yummy-tastic goons I have ever had - and I have absolutely had my share of 'goons. All hail the mighty 'goon! Moderately priced, for a Chinese place, hard to find parking (but who cares - delivery is speedy & cheap), NOT open late (unfortunately), but definitely some good eats if you stick to the staples.

I've been jonesin' for Chinese take out for some time now and I've been pleasantly surprised time and again by Wok N Roll's excellent dinner combos. Ordered via foodler.com and straight to my door within 20-30 minutes. Gotta love the efficiency. The dinner combos are bit pricey (between $11-$13) but for the amount of food you get? It's kind of worth it... I've been known to eat Wok N Roll leftovers for two or three meals. I was a strict Won Ton Soup enthusiast until one evening I was accidentally given the Hot and Sour Soup. I was sure I would not like it. I mean, really - I never imagined I would find anything described as "hot and sour" appetizing. Oh. I. Was. Wrong. I'm not sure what Hot and Sour Soup entails - but there were some delicious veggies (including: mushrooms, some rooty vegetation and some other unidentified veggies) and big chunks of tofu. The unidentified veggies were things I've seen and eaten before - ones I grew up on, but never knew the names of (Thanks a lot, Mom...) I am a fan of the chicken wings (standard - crunchy and delicious), the crab rangoon (you really can't screw it up) and the boneless spare ribs (holy tender and gotta love that marinade). The veggie fried rice is ok - but a little bland. It's fine, I now opt for the white rice and feel (only slightly) better about the fact that I'm eating my weight in grease. The General Gau's is fine (I am having to disagree with you, Jamie S). It is exactly what you'd expect in Genereal Gau (or Tso or whatever). Battered and deep fried chicken nuggets in a sweet (slightly spicy) sauce. There are some green peppers and scallions thrown in for good measure. The chicken and stir fry veggies is also tasty. A nice variety of vegetables and the sauce is delish. (I order this when I feel too guilty about getting General Gau's... but not guilty enough to not order Chinese).

You Wok N'Rolled right into the tender crevice of my heart. You whisper Sweet Duck Sauce Something's in my ear and your Lo Mein appendage makes me entirely antsy in my pantsy. Wok N'Roll is pretty Chinamazing. A) Affordable. 2) Delicious. D) Delivers for cheap. I have had several of their dishes and not a once have I been disappointed. They deliver in about 2.5 seconds...I timed them. Okay I'm exaggerating but the point is they are FAST. Just this past weekend after an excruciating Four Hour Drive in the snow where not only did my wee Kia slide backwards down a hill but I also witnessed several cars simply drive off the highway, I was hunkering for some China Food. And I do not hunker for China Food. I usually hunker for pizza or wings or a stiff drink or porn (paying attention now?). But I was hunkering. I was tired. I wanted something concocted to my liking. Sosie, I ordered the General Gau lunch special with some Peking Ravioli's. They said about 45 mintues. NBD. I decide I will take a shower. The moment I get out Mr. Wok N'Roll himself is ringing my doorbells (literally, not figuratively...or sexually)! I had to answer the door in my bathrobe! I can't make this up. Now the lunch specials, of which there are many, are my favorites because you can choose an app. (I always go with the 'Goons, crab they are not but yummy in my tummy certainly = truth), a SOUP (I support Wonton but I've heard good things about the others) AND you can choose what rice you want: fried, white or BROWN. Indeed. You can get steamed brown rice. And the rav's...well...let's just say they make my bellykins get butterfly's - and not in the Food Poisoning type way. Wok'N Roll...let's be friends for always, ok?

It can be hard to find somewhere in Porter Square to eat at 9:00 on a Sunday night, but we were pleasantly surprised that they were open. They were very accommodating - I asked for a half order of crab rangoon, and even though it wasn't listed on the menu, they were able to do that for me. The place looks like a dive from the outside, but it's actually very clean and nicely decorated. The service was incredibly fast, and the food was very good. In addition to the crab rangoon, we had veggie chow mein, garlic pork, won ton soup and brown rice - all very good. So, don't be turned off by the exterior - Wok and Roll is a good Chinese restaurant, whether you're eating in or taking out.

I went tonight. Here is my synposis: Service - Pretty Good General Gau's - Really Good (This dish is important to me) Hot and Sour Soup - Awful Chicken Fried Rice - Pretty Good Egg Roll - Good

  • Absolute G.

Gen. Gau chicken is bland and lacks broccoli. All the tofu is bloated and tasteless. The orders are small for the ratio of quality/price/quantity. Delivery, however, was on time and polite. As has been said, the Hot and Sour Soup is inedible. Also, possible slight case of food poisoning.

Last night was the second and final time I will order from Wok N Roll. I ordered the wide noodles vegetarian and discovered several chunks of chopped up meat mid-meal. It was definitely the vegetarian version because there were vegetables and not enough meat to be just the wrong order, so it was clear that they had just been careless making my food. My non-vegetarian husband tasted it and confirmed that it was meat and not just bits of mushroom or egg.

Whoa - non-greasy, reasonably-priced Chinese food? damn. Yes, W&R certainly has it. They lose one star for never, EVER making anything spicy when asked...I know Porter Square is the epitome of gentrification, but I really, really do mean that I want something to be incredibly spicy. Top Menu pics: Spinach fried rice. Didn't know that fried rice is made with spinach, but this place has it and it absolutely rocks. Anything with pork. Well cooked, well seasoned (except for the lack of spice) and not greasy. The veggies are always crunch and delicious. Crab rangoons. You get TEN (10) of them!!!!!!!! Portions are huge, which makes the slightly higher prices worth it, so grab someone and share!

Ugh, every year or so I forget why I hate eating lunch here, and get talked into going again. 1. Service: HORRIBLE. As I was walking in, a waiter banged into me and didn't say a word. The server we had slammed everyone's drinks and plates onto the table, and actually dumped my plate on top of my silverware when serving my food. He interrupted me in the middle of taking my order, and went on to the next person. 2. The food does not taste like the food you are expecting to get. I'm not sure exactly why but nothing tastes right. The General Gau's chicken is awful. Just awful. It's way too citrusy and garlicky... and the texture is strange. Blek. Go down the street to Changsho. They have a great lunch buffet and the food tastes good (AND it's all you can eat). Don't settle for Wok n Roll. I certainly didn't expect anything more from this place than your basic cheap American-Chinese food and I was still heartily disappointed. The only thing that's even tolerable are the pan seared dumplings (hard to get that wrong) and the hot and sour soup.

I admit that I avoided this place for a few years. It just didn't seem to appear as though they could possibly offer a decent meal. One weekend I unexpectedly found myself here with a group of friends and lo and behold, they make a decent meal. It definitely seems like more americanized Chinese food, but it's americanized Chinese food at it's best. Their menu is extensive and they offer very reasonable lunch deals. I have since ordered takeout via foodler from here and delivery is quick and the food arrives hot! Items I would recommend are the vegetarian fried rice and any of the fried tofu dishes!

The gf and I ordered in from Wok n Roll to show appreciation for the witty word play, and because I'd been sick and couldn't manage to leave the house. We ordered on foodler and it showed up in about 20 minutes to get to the house, and here's the rundown: Hot and Sour Soup: better than average Pork Dumplings: a little to doughy Teriyaki Beef: I love meat on sticks Honey BBQ Boneless Spareribs: MUST TRY. some of the best I've ever had AND they give you extra dipping sauce Fried rice: subparish But it was good and we ate if for the next 2 days.

Surprise! This sketchy looking Chinese food joint with the bad name is actually really good and veggie friendly! Whodathunk? They recently added a bunch of really yummy tofu options to the menu, which now include entrees like sesame tofu, General Gau's tofu, and spicy tofu with vegetables. Plus, their fried rice is vegetarian!! Amen.

As a heads-up, I've only gotten takeout from here, so that's all I can comment on. I have no idea what their service is like. For takeout, though, Wok n Roll is pretty solid Chinese-American food. It's nothing to write home about, but the hot and sour soup satisfies a craving, and the Peking dumplings are pretty good. I recently tried their chicken wonton appetizer and was pleasantly surprised. This isn't the place to come for anything fancy or authentic, but it's good for what it is, and the delivery has always been very quick. They do charge a (very) small delivery fee, though.

It gets two stars because the crab rangoon was the cheese-filled heart attack it's supposed to be. I like my crab rangoons fat and bursting. The General Gau's chicken is not chicken. I'm serious. There was something very, very wrong with the texture. It was like eating hard, congealed grits. I'm sorry if you are not from the South and you do not know what grits are - but let me tell you, nasty General Gau is not the way to find out. Also, the name "Wok N Roll" makes me angry for unknown reasons.

Sesame tofu. Really? Yay. I tried this place for the first time today and was pretty happy with it. They have a few tofu/veg options so I'm excited to try more. $7 for lunch with one appetizer & rice. Sounds good.

Boo-hoo Wok N Roll! I wanted cheap takeout when I didn't feel like cooking and thought you would be perfect. I walked into your restaurant and you asked if I wanted takeout. When I said yes, you walked into another room, leaving me to wonder if you were still open. 30 dollars and ten minutes later, I picked up my food and brought it home where I thought I would be able to enjoy it. But, you forgot the rice that I paid for and when I called, you asked "did you order it?" I did order it though and had to drive all the way back out to get it. You could have thrown in an egg roll or something but instead you gave me a small (I ordered a large) dry white rice. I was too tired to complain again. The food was okay, but not for the 30 dollars I paid for two entrees (one all vegetable) and one appetizer. The vegetable dumplings were good, but not unlike what you get at most other places. Changsho is much better if you are looking to spend more and Shanghai in Arlington is better for cheaper food.

Reading the reviews, it seems that many people had good experience with Wok N Roll. My experience with them, however, wasn't so great. Their delivery was surprising fast, which was great, but the delivery guy was kinda rude. He was very impatient when I was getting the cash to pay him, and he was rushing me when I was tipping him. I actually regret tipping him afterward, as his service really didn't deserve to be tipped. I ordered the General Gau's Chicken combo, since it had very good rating on Foodler. The food size was really decent, which could easily last me 2 or 3 meals. I ordered Egg roll, Wonton soup and White rice in the combo. I got spring roll, instead of egg roll, which wasn't very tasty. The flour wrap of the wontons had a weird texture, but I thought that was understandable as it's been soaked in the soup during delivery. The white rice was nice. The General Gau's Chicken has a very nice description on Foodler's online menu, and it looked really delicious too. Although it was a bit too sweet for a main meal, it's a bit like sweet n sour chicken, and the only difference to me is that, instead of using sweet n sour sauce in the cooking, they used sweet chili sauce. Overall, I have to say that the combo is good value for money.

Their prices have climbed, but I'm too fond of their Garlic-chicken meal combo to stop going. And the waiter actually remembers what I ordered (including the fact I prefer mustard on my rangoons with the meal) and knows my name (ha!). Their food's fresh and I've never had a bad meal here. Ever. Excellent hot & sour soup, the and scallion pancakes are exactly as they should be. I think their main business comes from take out/delivery, so it's also a good place for a meal if you want a little quiet. Or not, if you have an idiot with a cell phone (you know who you are) who plops himself down in the booth next yours and starts calling all his acquaintances to status-drop about how he has a meeting with Homeland Security next week and blah blah blah. Attention idiot: you're still an idiot, you're loud, you're rude and NO ONE CARES about your interview with various government agencies. Millions of people every year interview with the Office of Personnel Management (who screen applicants for all of the career civil service positions) and anyone so indiscreet as to blare loudly in a restaurant who they're meeting is either a) not going to pass the background check , or b) going to get bounced later on (but not much later!) Good luck with that. Idiot. Happily, the idiots are the exception. The rule is that it's a great meal and a little quiet.

It's always a toss up to try a new Chinese food place, but Wok N Roll was a hit! I crave their Sesame Tofu and I'm psyched that they have brown rice so I can still feel healthy while I'm pigging out. Now Wok N Roll is my go-to Chinese place (when it's not 3AM and I stumble to Golden Light on the way home from the bar)!

This place is great. The atmosphere was lacking. It's a long, narrow space. The cuisine, however, was great. Mandarin and Szechuan only - it is not fusion. They offer vegetable dumpling option (Peking ravioi) which is very hard to come by. Most restaurants have only pork. Crab Rangoon in my top 10. Real crab. Bonus. Light on your stomach with appropriate portions that are priced accordingly. Easy to access - right across from the Porter Square T! I would come back!

yech....lost a star! Orange chicken was BEAT! gloppy sauce covering uninspired chicken chunks. If you go, get a mess of appetizers, they're all very good: scallion pancakes, wangoons, szechuan wontons, etc. But stay away from General Gau and The ORANGE CHICKEN!!!

(3 1/2) so i have a laziness problem. when i have food in the fridge, i often say "forget it, i'm getting chinese." wok n roll wins because a) it's on foodler. b) it's cheap. c) it's close. the last time i ordered, i ordered enough to last me a couple days because leftover chinese food makes me happy. i got the orange chicken combo (2 crab rangoon, wonton soup, rice, and orange chicken). the wonton soup was the best i've had in a long time. and the delivery was faster than i was quoted. WIN! i'll totally be ordering here again!

This rating is for their delivery food....Seaweed salad was not fresh. Peking dumplings are skimpy on the meat and the dough is super thick and rubbery-like. The vegetables in Buddha's Delight were totally overcooked, if you like mushy veggies this is the place for you. Don't get food here.

I've lived and worked in the Porter Square area for over ten years. Sad to say that the food at Wok'n Roll has gone from good to bad to worst. Tonight's meal will be my last meal at this restaurant. The broccoli in the Buddha's Delight we got was slimy - totally disgusting. The Barbecued Boneless Honey Ribs were so overcooked that they weren't even recognizable as meat of any sort. Including an order of shrimp fried rice, chicken wings and house soup this meal cost us over $40 bucks and left us unfulfilled and slightly nauseated!

On a weekend night, they delivered my food 29 minutes after I ordered it! I was impressed. My boyfriend and I ordered the vegetarian dumplings for an appetizer; they were reeally good. A little greasy, but I appreciate a great non-pork dumpling any day. He ordered one of the dinner combos, which was a great deal - he got an egg roll, hot & sour soup, fried rice, and Hot & Spicy Tofu for $12.85... everything was delicious and the tofu really was spicy. I ordered the Vegetable Moo Shi, which was also very good. Overall, I'm a fan because it was quick, cheap, and yummy. Perfect if you're looking for fast Chinese.

I've tried a few things here, and I really only like the Kung Pao chicken lunch special. But that one dish keeps me coming back over and over. The lunch special is definitely enough food for two, though, which makes it a steal!

May I offer you a fried maggot with that? Honestly, there was a deep fried maggot attached to a chicken wing. At first, we thought it was a stray piece of white rice - although we hadn't ordered any - but upon closer observation and noting it had striations and was thicker and longer than a normal grain of rice...well, you guessed it. Into the rubbish went $30 worth of food. I'm giving it a two because when I first started ordering from them in 2004, the food was really fresh and clean tasting - no MSG hangover. But now...new owners?

  • Mary D.

This is the first time I've actually written a review on yelp instead of just leaning on savvy yelpers to save myself from the dreaded Horrible Delivery Decision. It's hard to know what's safe to order when it's late at night, you have the horrible munchies, and you're staring at the foodler.com menus with immense skepticism (who names a restaurant No. 1 KD, seriously? Does anybody even know what that means?) but increasing desperation as the clock continues ticking and your refrigerator remains full of nothing but condiments. This, friends, seems to be a safe bet. Make no mistake: this is hard-and-fast Americanized quickserve Chinese food...the sort of stuff you can get almost anywhere, no surprises and no unknowns, and whether or not you're impressed by that lack of inventiveness I contend that there is a place for precisely this sort of dining option. It is a lazy place and a cold place characterized by bad weather, where time is forever frozen at the end of a grocery week and all you want is someone to bring you hot food that you didn't have to make yourself. Out of the slew of items ordered, only one -- the fried rice -- was in any way inedible, and unfortunately it was *completely* inedible...undercooked or over-greased, I'm not certain which (probably both), but the grains of rice were chewy, dense and hard. Not pleasant. It's never a good sign when the fried rice is *dark* brown and you know for sure that it started out *white*. The hot and sour soup was a mix, I am sure, and I didn't finish it, but I wouldn't have spit it out (and that would be doubly true had I been drunk at the time, which I was not). Aside from those two blips, the rest of the food was devoured with rapidity and glee. The crab rangoons were very tasty, and if you order the app, you get 10. The crispy chicken wings, in both spicy and plain flavors, were good (though the general consensus was that the spicy were the clear winners in a wing vs. wing face-off). The eggrolls were good. The peking dumplings were unfortunately of the variety containing a small blob of insufficient filling surrounded by more bready dumpling than you could possibly ever want, but were good enough for government work (they're probably better fried...we had steamed). The boneless bbq honey ribs were decent; no more and no less fatty than they are anywhere else. Scallion pancakes are not my personal favorite appetizer, but these wound up eaten in no time. The Singapore Style Rice Noodles were apparently quite passable. The General Gau's chicken was good when it arrived, less delicious as leftovers after a cold night in the fridge...but you're not ordering from a mid-rate Chinese food restaurant to savor the experience, are you? Now, really. For the amount of Chinese food restaurants in this town, and given the amount of Chinese food places that do delivery, I'm always surprised at how ordering from them always seems to be sort of a craps shoot at best. This place seems pretty consistent, and while I can hardly say it's worth writing home about, it is probably destined to become the trustworthy Plan B for those nights when going out sounds awful and Chinese food sounds like the solution.

While I've never actually gone into the restaurant, my boyfriend and I have ordered delivery from here plenty of times and it has never disappointing. Food was always fresh and tasty and delivery was very fast. Overall, very good place.

I was planning to order from Wok N Roll for dinner tonight and thought I would check here to see what yelp had to say. And I must admit, I'm a bit surprised. I, for one, love this place! It's Americanized Chinese and that's it, nothing fancy. I walk in, place my order, run across to Porter for wine/beer, and my order is ready by the time I can cross Mass Ave again. The combo specials are a fantastic deal and you get more than enough food for at least 2 meals (sharing is caring!!). As for specific dishes, I stick to the basics like cashew chicken and beef with broccoli. You can't screw that up! The crab rangoon is delicious and, to my liking, mostly cream cheese. What? Those never taste like crab! The service is always pleasant and speedy and, compared to the other Chinese restaurants in Cambridge/Somerville, I don't feel like I need to stay within a few feet of the bathroom after eating. I'm looking at you Pu Pu Hot Pot.

Standard local Chinese food spot. As other's have said, its a familiar American take on Chinese food. In keepting with that, its a little too dependent on salt and grease for flavor. OK if you crave Chinese and are in Porter Square, although a friend who frequented Wok N Roll regularly repented of every meal he'd had there after I steered him to Zoes. Zoes, while not what it once was is still a better option in the area. Changsho's is better, too, but in a much higher price bracket.

The hot & sour soup was inedible, everything else was bland but not terrible. I was expecting crispy sesame tofu with broccoli, but instead got some soft, bloated chunks of tofu (no vegetables) in a thin syrup with a few sesame seeds. Spring roll was super greasy, dumplings were overly doughy, and the aforementioned hot and sour tasted like chemicals. The vegetables that came with my husbands pork were perfectly cooked, though, and the scallion pancakes were fine. Delivery was very quick, and dishes are reasonably priced as compared to other chinese restaurants in the area.

Order from here if you want to absolute BEST of the completely average chinese food take out places in the Cambridge/Somerville area.

In search of sesame tofu, we found Wok N Roll. Although the tofu was slightly disappointing (too sweet, not very sesame-y), the shrimp udon was good enough for a second try. This time, we got general gao's tofu to accompany it. Oddly, the general gao's was a lot like the sesame (too sweet, not very general gao-y). But, we still like the udon, they deliver it to Central Square, and they deliver it fast.

There are much better options. Don't settle. Their fried rice is bizarre, with chunks of undercooked carrots and peas. I don't get it. If you have to eat from here, their house Lo Mein (shrimp, beef, chicken) is not terrible. However, the General Gau/Tsao/Goo/whatever IS terrible. Don't even get me started on the name...

Consistently reliable, clean-tasting, and low wait times. General's chicken is my favorite around, as is the hot and sour soup. And they have brown rice, which I like.

I was expecting this to be a 2 star, but this place surprised me. Only dish I've had so far that would not be worth a 4 star rating would be the General Gau's chicken(that would of been 2 stars for me).

Ordered Chinese food, food arrived hot and was delivered very quickly. They actually forgot to put an item into my order, but when I called the guy on the phone was very polite and apologetic and immediately sent the delivery guy back out. Great experience, wasn't my first time ordering from this place but I felt compelled to review them this time.

Typical American Chinese food done well. Their lunch combo's are great!!! And they have a few tofu options that are all pretty good. I'm not a huge fan of Chinese food, but sometimes you just grave a greesy meal. BTW the hot and sour soup is pretty damn good! great when you have a cold and veggie friendly!

Best Chinese in Cambridge, without question, especially for key menu items: lo mein, dumplings, crab rangoons, hot & sour soup, scallion pancakes. The fiery red spareribs, too - which tend to be dodgy no matter where you go - are more meat than gristle, and are highly recommended. The sweet chickens - Gau/Orange/Sesame family - are a little underwhelming, but it's not a deal breaker by any stretch.

Solid Americanized Chinese food, excellent speedy delivery, healthy and fresh. The food is basic and not too spicy, but it's done well--chicken and vegetables cooked to the correct texture, large non-greasy spring rolls, excellent hot and sour soup. I liked the fact that they followed the comments in my order, and packed napkins, chopsticks, and spoons. When the delivery guy called, I assumed he was calling with a question or comment about my order, but he was already downstairs. That's fast! And the price was excellent. The food is worth 3 stars, but I'm bumping it up a notch for great price and delivery. Available at foodler.com . update: Truly this place does a good job. Excellent delivery for the price. Obviously I'm an outlier, but I really like the hot and sour soup here!

I think some of the people who have reviewed this place have missed the point. Wok n Roll is an American Chinese food restaurant -- hence the name (as no self-respecting Chinese restaurant would name itself as such) -- and for American Chinese food, it's tops. I mean, if you're hankering for some chicken fingers and terriaki sticks, this is the place. The crab rangoons (which isn't even Chinese) are tasty and crispy and always hit my "fried food sweet spot," so much that I carry "fried food" guilt for the next two days. The service is quick, the portions are big, and the restaurant, while lacking some personality, is quite clean, which is more than I can say for a lot of take out places.

I don't like chinese food in particular, but pretty good value on the lunch menu for Porter Sq. Personally, I'd go to Shang-Sho because they have green and yellow jello. Aptly named because you Wok in, and have to Roll yourself down the street after getting MSGWTFPWND.

Pretty basic American Chinese food. Nothing special, but not horrible. I personally prefer something a bit more authentic, but wasn't at all disappointed with my meal. The lunch specials are a pretty decent deal too.

This place is great for take-out chinese. If you want sit-down quality go somewhere else, this place can deliver your food in about 20minutes through foodler (less human contact the better). Go for their dinner combos because the Sesame Chicken is delicious (in an american chinese kind of way (sugary)). The Crab Rangoons are above the rest, and everything else is 4star quality for a chinese take-out restaurant.

only been here for lunch in the past. typical americanized chinese food. lunch plates are pretty cheap for what you get. the main dishes taste like they toss in a few too many spoonfuls of sugar though. overall, not too bad.

My friend constantly orders from Wok N Roll and everytime she does it reminds me why i, myself, never order from there. The food tastes of complete salt, the service is rude(altough it is speedy) and the restaurant doesn't give an overall nice appeal. As for the price, it may be cheap, but throw down another dollar or two and walk down the street and you could get much better chinesse food.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
