This place can't seem to decide between being a sushi joint with OK food and low prices and being a moderately upscale restaurant with high quality food and charging for it. What you end up getting is a "meh" sushi and dining experience for a "whoa" price (not in a good way). The dining area is nice on the surface - even if they're using projectors against bare walls for the decor - but the tables wobble, the chopsticks are cheap/disposable, and the bathroom is in some serious need of repair. We ordered the sushi/sashimi combo for two, which ultimately wasn't enough, so we followed it up with a combo for one. The maki was put together well and fairly tasty, but the nigiri not so much; the rice on a few pieces seemed to be two distinct and separate clumps. The overall quality of the fish was fine, but not great. For roughly the same price, the sushi at (for example) Genki Ya is of much higher quality. One redeeming factor is the service. The hostess was a charm, and our waiter was attentive without being overbearing. Wine was a very heavy pour, even if served too warm. Overall, it's ok, but you'll get a better value elsewhere.

So here's a tidbit that I normally don't share. This little doggie is not a big fan of the restaurants in the immediate Harvard Square area. Let's face it, these restaurants are for the tens of thousands of tourists, and students that live and visit our fine city. Food is turned out rather quickly, and while some restaurants handle the hustle better than others, there is just a general lack of quality in the food, not to mention the service. There are a few exceptions in my book, and the one this review is about is, Osushi. Now let me set the story. I've been here a few times over the years, and while my first few visits were not particularly awe inspiring I have continued to go back. I know this goes against my second rule, which is restaurants have only 2 chances to win me over. But there is something special about this place, and my visit last night sealed the deal with me. From the moment I walked in, the service was top-notch. Our waiter was friendly, personable, always around without bring intrusive or annoying, and he had a great sense of humor and personality, something seriously lacking in the restaurant world of late. The vegetarian gyoza (pan-fried) were done to absolute perfection. They were soft and tender on top, golden and caramelized on the bottom. For my entrée, I ordered Yaki Soba a warm and flavorful dish of stir-fried ramen noodles with vegetables, ginger, and soy sauce. Everything about this dish was perfection with every chopstick portion giving off wonderful aromas and tantalizing flavors. This is a must have on their menu. So if you find yourself in Harvard Square and wanting something other than quick serve, assembly line type food, consider getting your little paws over to Osushi. You won't be disappointed. Do not sleep on the ramen Wednesdays here. Get it while you can! The chef is thinking of opening his own ramen shop and for now, you can get the best ramen around only once a week. I've eaten ramen in five global big cities, and all the main eateries in Cambridge, and my tastebuds have never been more fulfilled. My favorite is the tonkotsu with a ten hour broth, grilled pork, marinated egg. Everything is perfect. It is made in very small batches and served only on Wednesdays so it has an incredibly high quality.

Went here for the first time this past Friday evening. The spot was really cool looking inside, and packed. We sat at the bar booth, wanted to just get a drink and a quick bite to eat. The first two cocktails I ordered at least one of the items in the drink was out, not really a bother for me as I like cocktails and lots of different flavors, but could be a bummer for someone more picky. I enjoyed my cucumber gin martini a lot, silly name ku kum bah (I didn't get it at first that it was a play on the word cucumber, woops). The bar was crowded, music was good, we got drinks well before anyone came over with waters, and it was not our waitress who brought them. Ordered 3 things to eat and share, edamame, veggie and shrimp tempura, and a scorpion roll. The edamame was fine, not over steamed, no soy sauce came out for us with it though. Veggie and shrimp tempura was underwhelming. There were maybe 4-5 vegetables on it and 4 shrimp. They were all tiny and barely fit the appetizer plate. It was $16. I repeat $16! I almost shit myself! The price for what was provided was absurd, and I am not the average American looking for a super sized meal, but when you want vegetable tempura usually its a big full veggie slice and plenty of them. Not amused, it thankfully wasn't greasy but I was a little tiffed that it was again, $16. Don't waste your money. It cost more than our two drinks combined. My roll was not the best. I eat a lot of sushi and it tasted fine, sure, but it was bland and rolled poorly and small for a 8 piece sushi roll - meaning it was skinny and didn't have much to it for a special roll. I can see someone not eating a lot of sushi being like, oh this place was great! Find someone else to lose your sushi virginity, you'll be glad you did. I am going to stick to my usual spots. Go meet someone for a drink and some steamed soybeans, otherwise spend your money somewhere else, like Hoshi Ya or Fish Market, more wisely. Waitress was awkward, but I liked it, she was friendly even though it seemed like she was an introvert trying really hard to be comfortable in a busy restaurant.

We were here last night, and had a great experience! Food was great, the waiter was knowledgeable and we found that the ambience was all-around very enjoyable. We will be back for the Miso Cod!

Do NOT come here, bottom line. It comes as no surprise as almost every single review of this place has so been abhorrent and consistent. The only silver lining is that this place has encouraged new people to join Yelp. We came to this place to see a really awesome concert, completely paid and guilt-free, but as soon as we grabbed a seat, we were hounded by the waitress for food and drinks. Mind you, this was 10:30pm and my date and I had already enjoyed a nice dinner prior to this, but in the span of 10 minutes casually reading through the menu, trying to find a non-overpriced drink, the same waitress stopped by at least 6-7 times to hurry us and aggressively tried to tell us that we had to order a drink to sit here and enjoy the show. Her rudeness, with the combination of the tacky, modern decor with a lot of identity crisis made the overall experience horrid. I didn't even try the food, but feel free to read up on other reviews if you want to eat here. Food: n/a Drinks: 2 stars Service: don't come here

Surprisingly good for lunch. I went with an old friend and business colleague and he suggested O Sushi. The lunch bento box was very nice. According to my friend, the nigiri was very good. Next time I shall try! Remarkably, one doesn't expect acceptable sushi on a Monday. Sigh ... still missing Cafe Paradiso ... I guess no one remembers ...
(4)Karleen P.
Very VERY disappointed. I have been there before for just drinks and decided to grab some sushi since I had some free time before having to go to an event. The service was mediocre. We ordered 2 cocktails that took over 20 minutes to get to us at 430pm when the place was barely packed. Not to mention the sushi was just OK and did not taste at all fresh. I was furious when I saw the outrageous price for the bill and would have much rather gone somewhere else... Save your money, much better places in the Square to visit
(2)Zee C.
The food just wasn't that good...Wasn't really bad- but I've had better in Harvard Sq. Sushi was dry- maybe too much rice? Overall its a great location - but there are some hidden jems if you keep on walking~
(2)Alicia A.
Great place! Try the cappuccino mousse!

A comfortable and well designed restaurant. Love the big open windows and the light projections on the walls. I've been twice. The food is pretty good. Last night we had to wait a while for our drinks. We asked for Tobiko on one roll, but our server later returned and informed us that the kitchen had put it on both of them. He asked if this was okay and we told him it was fine. We're pretty agreeable. I liked the Shumai, but eating it wasn't like talking to god. We only ate half of our Scallion Pancakes. They do Karaoke here on Wednesday nights and I'm mildly curious to see if it draws a fun crowd. Let me know if you go.

I went to the restaurant today by myself for lunch and the host was very disrespectful. He offered to seat with me and made some inappropriate jokes. I ordered a mojito and sushi. The food was really good and the bartender was very polite and the drink was good. However the host tried to add more alcohol to my drink, which I did not ask for it. I kept on saying I did not want it and he kept on adding more. I did not drink the mojito. It did not taste good after whatever the host added. I been there 3 times and I am very disappointed. The host was very inappropriate. Even thought the sushi was good I won't go there anymore because I did not feel comfortable.
(2)Mark G.
Nice spots to sit out side , food was okay, they didn't take my groupon because we got alcohol.

Originally opened in Copley, Osushi is now also open in Cambridge taking over the former Conga/Shabu Sq. The venue is cool, chic and modern and has a nice and spacious sushi bar. The decor is very much authentic Japanese-esque compared to other so- claimed to be Japanese restaurants. The place has good vibe and trendy. Best part, opens until 2am!! Sushi is very fresh and definitely come back.
(4)H. A.
Pros: -The fish was fresh. -They have outdoor seating in that adorable alley in Harvard Sq. Cons: -Nigiri was tiny, just about half the size of what you normally get. -Everything is priced just slightly higher than normal ($1-2 extra per roll or nigiri). -Sushi rice and seaweed not of good/right quality. Kind of gummy rice. Texture was off and not enjoyable. -The waiters use iPads to take your order and it takes more time than normal. They scroll through the menu, they search for the item, they swipe the screen as they rest the iPad on your table, and they ask you to repeat your order 3 times. I get it, technology is great, but it did not translate to a pleasant & fluid dining experience. In fact, the waitress missed one of my dining companion's items.
(2)Michelle T.
After grabbing an after-dinner drink here with the bf, I can safely say that there is NO way I will be coming back to O Sushi to try their food. Absolutely atrocious service from the waitress, who was pushy, unprofessional and rude. I've also never been to a sushi restaurant where its waitress dresses like she should be working at a place with a pole.
(1)Colette A.
This is my first time writing a review. I just had to. I had a horrible dinner. I ordered the Tonkotsu Miso Ramen and my boyfriend ordered the Jop Chai. The packaged ramen that I use to eat when I was younger was better than the soup ordered. Honestly it reminded me of dish water. No flavor. We couldn't even eat it after the first few bites. We then decided to share the Jop Chai and that was nothing special at all. If it was not for the large amount of warm Sake that they served us I think we would have left much earlier. They should have put their money and time in a better chef/ food menu than their extravagant decor such as window projections. Sorry that I am an asshole but I really just don't understand how food establishments like this can exist. Where are the standards?

We had a poor experience at this vastly overpriced sushi place that is really trying too hard to cater to the hip money-throwing-away set. The quality of the fish is average for sushi restaurants. I spent more at OSushi on a smaller amount of the exact same quality of sushi than I would have had at, say, Ginza in Chinatown. The sushi was decently made, however. The service was haughty, slow and uncooperative. Several times I wanted to stand up and shout "We would like to spend more money, please come and take our orders!" The atmosphere feels like it's painted on the walls, all dark and "ooo look at how hip and futuristic we are." It looks like a place Patrick Bateman would come for late night sushi if he'd made it into the 1990s. The soundtrack is this hideous melange of crud. At the end of the night they were having a problem with their credit card machine and made us sit there for 20 minutes without telling us what was going on. We finally had to be like "What's the deal here?" We would have worked it out with them. In all: okay sushi, terrible value, terrible atmosphere, terrible service.
(2)Kerry B.
Sushi is fresh and yummy. Fried Gyoza is awesome. Their Ramen bowls on Wednesdays are outstanding!
(5)Kelsey B.
Came here for dinner on a Tuesday night. The place has a nice ambiance and was seated right away. I requested to sit at the bar, but the (manager I am assuming?) who seated me insisted that I sit at a table and stated it would "be so much better." I was seated for about 15 minutes before I was greeted by anyone and had to wave down a waitress to grab a water while I waited on my friend. Started off with a seaweed salad and had a simple veggie maki for my entree. The food was decent, nothing out of the ordinary, and the service did pick up a little bit once I got the attention of the waitress. I would come back here and give it another shot, but was fairly under impressed.
(3)Lauren P.
This place was overall blah. The most memorable (not in a good way) part of the meal was that there were a ton of fruit flies swarming the seating area near the windows. My friend and I didn't realize how bad they'd be until we were sitting there and waving the flies away throughout our meal. I got the tofu bibimbap...and it was alright. They served the rice separately instead of in the stone bowl, which was kind of sad...I prefer when the rice is in the bowl and gets kind of crunchy down along the inside of the bowl. The tofu was also just wiggly and plain--not sauteed or even seasoned. All in all, it was fine but not great. My friend got the sashimi dinner. I think it was ok, but again--the strange thing about this restaurant is that you don't get to choose what kind of sushi rolls/sashimi you get. You'd think that for a restaurant called "Osushi," they would have a sushi menu...right? Service was just kind of meh as well. Probably won't be returning. * Oh, forgot to add -- when the waitress brought us our little plates to eat the steamed gyoza, one of the plates was dirty. I gave it back to her and asked for a replacement, which she never brought. The steamed veggie gyoza, on the other hand, was probably the best part of the experience.
(2)Aarash Z.
I didn't try the sushi, because we stopped in for a drink. The whiskey was good, although a little over priced. But the atmosphere is the reason why it gets 4 stars. O seems like it's a fun place; they had good music, nice lighting and projected effects on the windows and walls and some other nice touches. i'll go back to get some sushi next time i'm in boston.
(4)moondizz y.
Must order shishito peppers
(4)Ali S.
This review only pertains to the nigiri. The nigiri was way too expensive for the quality. So many of the reviews talk about how fresh the fish is, but that is the exact opposite of my experience. While it is difficult to find great yellowtail in the Boston area, this yellowtail was the fishiest that I've ever had. It was difficult to swallow because it was that bad. The salmon was also subpar. It was a little slimy and the cut had parts that were actually hard. Gross. The mackerel was also very disappointing. Ironically, the fluke (cheapest nigiri ordered) was the best. I discourage going if you want nigiri or sashimi. Get something else if you're reading this review in the restaurant.
(2)Arnold S.
"Meh" would be kind. Average sushi, not wildly overpriced, not better than at an Asian supermarket food court though. But at least the service is only disinterested. It's in Harvard Square!
(2)Jennie J.
I'm surprised this place has such low reviews & stars as I had a pleasant time here. We sat outside as it was a beautiful day out, had excellent and attentive service and the food was delicious. We shared the Edamame, I ordered the seaweed salad which was very tasty and very big compared to most seaweed salads I've had. I also ordered the Salmon Maki which was nothing special but good and the Avocado Eel Cucumber Maki- this was delicious. Three of my favorite things rolled into one! I thought this was a lovely place for lunch while wandering around Harvard Square.
(5)Yow-Bang W.
Low price, great food, modern interior, live bands. This restaurant definitely deserves a much higher rating. I don't know how they've screwed up in the past.....but it's really great right now as far as I tasted. Compared to all the makis I've had around Boston, their seasoning is obviously lighter. I don't know if this fits local's taste, but as an Asian I totally enjoy such freshness. The only thing bothered me may be that the live band is kinda loud.
(4)Christine H.
I might be being generous offering 2 stars. I'll start with the positive. We were sat fairly quickly for a Saturday night (with reservations). The atmosphere is pleasant and dimly lit. Sushi bar looks like a nice place to sit. We sat at a high top for 2. We sat and a couple minutes and 2 minutes after received water. Our waiter came up and asked us if we were "ready" and we said can we start with a drink? He said sure anything. I asked if they had scorpion bowls. He said he would check. He came back and didn't answer about the scorpion bowls. I asked about another customer's drink which looked like a frozen strawberry drink. He said let me ask the bar. He came back and said "no sorry." Ok. Whatever. We ordered 2 cocktails off the menu and I ordered an app of edamame. The drinks came, which he spilled a bit of all on the table. My boyfriends drink was whiskey based and let me tell you there was not even a trace taste of whiskey in it. Mine was weak but okay. Ill get to the food... edamame came without soy, we asked for soy and got some random smoked type soy with chili flakes. I asked another waitstaff member for soy and got soy. Obviously our waiter was new but he really shouldn't have been off training. I'm referring to him as waiter because he didn't state his name. Yaki Soba and my boyfriend got the Udon with chicken. We also ordered sushi. His came out as a soup mine did not. I wanted a soup and he didn't, so we switched. His had no chicken or anything meat in it, which ended up being okay because I'm a vegetarian so I enjoyed it. But it states on the menu that their is chicken meat balls. Anyway the food was good and 15 minutes later the sushi came out, which was a little annoying. The sushi had little tuna in it, and filled with other veggies. That's okay I guess if you don't like getting a lot of fish. The bill came to $66. Way overpriced drinks ($10 each) but overall the food was decent. The waiter was horrid. I wouldn't go back.
(2)Enzo S.
This place is one of the best sushi restaurants in Boston. Not only is the food delicious and the staff friendly, the vibe is enough to bring me back every time. The atmosphere at the place is extremely entertaining, the music is great and they always project great movies on the wall. They also have special DJs on fridays and saturday so its the perfect place to pre-game for drinks before going out, all around great establishment.
(5)Adina M.
We had an interesting experience here. The water was really delicious and the soy sauce was also impeccable. We felt a little chilly every time the door opened so that wasn't comfortable. The sushi was really good but it took a reallllly long time to come out. Definitely call to make an appointment in advance. Xoxo gossip girl
(3)Kevin C.
First off prices seem a bit high but location dictated a higher price! The miso was slightly bland but hot and unusually had mushrooms in it quite weird in a miso soup! Didn't order a drink which seemed to upset the waitress The presentation of the sushi is nice can't wait to try it!, the edamame bowl for the scrap pieces is chipped and broken but edamame is actually well salted and steaming very good signs The sushi is pretty good and seems like attentive staff Over all seems pretty good was gonna give it 3 stars but with the food level it's gonna get a four
(4)Stephanie G.
This is one of those rare gems that truly deserves ZERO stars. I am being quite literal when I say that everything about our meal was AWFUL. No table despite reservations, nasty owner, truly awful service (as in worst I've experienced in a really long time), and food that varied from meh to terrible. Do not waste your money here. There are SO many better Japanese/sushi places to try. Oh, and the best part: their out-of-place with the rest of the decor tv was playing a COPS marathon almost the entire time we were there, so I got to enjoy watching some police brutality while being ignored by the waitress. And when that finally ended, as I was trying to stomach some of the flavor-less salmon, it changed to Bones. In case you didn't know, Bones almost always begins with a gruesomely mutilated dead body. Yum.
(1)Susan Z.
The ton katsu wasn't as good this time, but still okay. The salad has weird-tasting spicy dressing on it (maybe if you like spicy you would like it). Sushi is okay, but when I read "california roll with shrimp tempura" I take it to mean california roll + shrimp tempura. It actually means they take the crab part out and replace it with shrimp tempura. Disappointed. It's an okay sushi place, probably worth it if you like full bars. Servers are nice. They'll change the channel if you ask (when we were there it was on a weird HLN murder-solving show which is not what I want to see while I'm eating).
(3)Hubert H.
At some point Osushi changed their menu to be more streamlined and is perhaps more focused on more of the Korean dishes. I had their bibimbap months ago and it was fairly flavorful, but I find their sushi rice to be a bit too tough, and perhaps the sushi fish not so flavorful. Nonetheless, on Wednesdays during the summer apparently there is Karaoke night! Fun stuff!
(3)Patricia F.
Nice variety of Japanese and Korean food. I got the Spicy Pork (Korean) and it was cooked to perfection, with the flavor of the onions really shining through. I was impressed because it was a busy Saturday night. The decor is fabulous and has a lot of neat features. We were looking into reserving the space for a function and the staff went above and beyond to answer our questions.
(5)Nicole V.
I'm going to quote my mother and every single kindergarten teacher of all time: "If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all" El fin **Updated for Amy B - 1 star**
(1)Jesse F.
Enjoyable ambiance, great setting for a date; dim lighting, reasonably quiet mood music. The wait staff was eager to help, and checked on our table at the appropriate times. The Tuna Tartare, Tempura and Boston Maki were the favorites between my date and I. Conveniently placed on Eliot St, directly to the left of Charlie's Kitchen in Harvard Sq.
(4)Alex M.
The decor is lovely, but the food pricy and often tasteless. Two stars because at least they gave me a 20% discount when i didn't eat half my food.
(2)Serafin S.
It really is some of the freshest and best prepared sushi in the Boston area. The specialty rolls are incredible and the sake is warm and delicious. The space itself is modern and chic. We had a great time and a great meal at Osushi.
(4)Danforth N.
The location is fantastic, and the portions are generous. I love the design of the dining room, but the restrooms were inexcusable when I visited. They were under renovation, and only one was open. Even the one that was open was half assembled. If I'm going out for sushi, I need to be able to wash my hands. Waiting 10 minutes for a sink was appalling. Once I got my food, every dish was underwhelming. They just weren't very flavorful. Someone I could only imagine was the owner could tell we were disappointed, and tried to make it up to us, but offering us more food was not very appealing when we had already had several disappointing dishes. I'm unlikely to return, but give this two stars because they obviously wanted to give us a good experience. If the owner hadn't volunteered to fix things, it would be one star.
(2)Shawn R.
A nice stop in the Harvard Square area. The sushi was fresh and well made. Not too expensive but not a bargain either. I ate at the bar and the service was ok. (hard to get a refill on soda) The decor is nice but the Sushi Chefs are in the back and I usually prefer to watch when dining alone. I would visit Osushi again.
(3)William A.
The food here wasn't the best i've had and the quantities are on the smaller side (may be that's because i had a groupon) . But the quality of the service and the speed is just stunning you feel as though you were at the restaurant of a 4-5 star hotel but this is Osushi. My waitress got a bit moody at the end, maybe she got yelled at or something, but that overall dining experience as well as the liquor selection and drink options made it a wonderful dinner out.
(4)David P.
I think this restaurant has really been paying attention to the reviews because I was there last week and have no complaints. Great food, great drinks, great service and the prices are average for good sushi in Harvard square. We tried appetizers, sushi, and udon noodles, as well as sake And beer. I really enjoyed my evening which was made cheaper with a groupon!
(4)Gretchen Y.
I had zukedon at this place for lunch this Tuesday, and the tuna was apparently not edible. I had diarrhea that night, and the next day for that whole day the next day. I told the manager today, and she apparently suspected whether I was telling the truth, and kept asking me whether I ate something else that made me have diarrhea. No apologies throughout the whole conversation, and said "I cannot do anything about it but ask vendor about it, that's all I can do." Never coming back again, and if you don't want diarrhea, maybe go to somewhere else.
(1)Michael C.
My friend went to Osushi with a groupon and told me about its awfulness later (she usually doesn't say negatives about a restaurant). Then this weekend another friend and I were roaming around the square at midnight looking for something to eat. My friend wanted to eat a bowl of ramen and despite my insistence that Osushi might not be good, we went in anyway. Not surprisingly, the food was far below our expectation. He ordered a spicy ramen, the soup of which I took a sip. I felt nothing but the strong flavor of the sesame floating on the soup. Then I tried my eel maki. But literally you can barely see any eel at all. The eel meat of all the pieces combined is smaller than the top segment of one's pinky. Besides, the restaurant is way overpriced. The maki is 12 dollars with barely any eels other than avocado.
(2)Lola T.
Pretty good! Nice atmosphere . Expensive as all sushi is, The sushi should be a little bigger for the price
(3)Ned K.
Myself and a few others came here for dinner on a Friday night. While the sushi was good, the prices were insanely high. Sushi can be pricey, but if that's the case it should be made up in another way. The service was deplorable: it took 3 waiters to figure out how to unscrew a wine cork, we had to ask for tap water 10 minutes into the meal (I've never been to a restaurant on the more expensive side that didn't do that automatically), and the wait staff new very little about the menu. The reason this gets 2 stars because its sushi; there are plenty of places within a 1 mile radius where you can get better sushi for a fraction of the price. Besides, I'm pretty confident it will be out of business within a few months.
(2)Colin B.
Great sushi rolls but really expensive for what you get. Would likely have given three stars if we hadn't had the Groupon, but with that, it made the trip worth it. We had the "Maya on Fire" roll and it was really quite good---lots of subtle but different flavors. The Hamachi carpaccio was also really good. Atmosphere is pretty forgettable---would be great for a first date/blind date: it's pleasant and quiet but not particularly romantic, and it's pretty open. Harvard Square location is convenient. Service was pretty good, even with our waitress being in the midst of training. We'll grab a few more coupons and be back if they come around; otherwise we'll venture to some of our other sushi favorites instead.

So, this has to be the weirdest lunch experiences food wise I've had in some time. The service was good. Me and my lunch mate were seated quickly, the restaurant was spotlessly clean and stylish. Looks like a great place to grab a drink. But the food, at least what I ordered was, hmm, strange. My first mistake is I came here to try a bento box, I can only assume that the sushi and nigiri are good, so I can't speak to the fish options in this restaurant. I ordered a Bento with Grilled chicken, chinese broccoli served in clear dashi. The platter (was huge, looked heavy, took up half the table, not necessarily a bad thing) came out in several little dishes. Miso Soup, Rice, and salad (dressing was very good), 2 different pickled vegetable dishes (odd), a dish that I first was a plantain, that I discovered later was eggplant, and the main, "grilled" chicken with chinese broccoli. The latter of the 2 dishes were absolutely disgusting, the 2 different pickled vegetable dishes were fine, not great. The best part about this meal and it's only saving grace was the salad, rice and miso soup. The dashi really killed the main dish, it was a lightly grilled chicken swimming in puddle of slime. This mostly flavorless goop coats the chicken and does not add anything in the way of flavor, in fact transforms the chicken's texture to seem mushy which is not what I want for grilled chicken. The topper was the eggplant dish, I can say that I'm not normally a fan of eggplant, the way that this was prepared will do nothing to change my perception. Topped with a charred tasting soy sauce that was like getting kicked in the palette with a leather boot fresh from a campfire, (no heat mind you, just a pungent taste.) This greasy filled bite had the texture of a spoonful of Vaseline. Needless to say, I did not like it, and since it was already paired with an unpleasantly textured main I felt that afterwards like I left a snail trail as I slithered back to work. I ordered the wrong thing, that's my mistake for not ordering fish in a sushi restaurant. TL; DR: I want a lunch that was more like Japanese and less like Harry Potter.

I wish I could comment on the food but after waiting 2 HOURS for delivery then having the delivery person UNABLE TO MAKE CHANGE, I can't review the food cause the delivery guy LEFT WITH IT. I do not suggest this place to anyone as they clearly don't care about customer service. I called the restaurant to complain & they told me they weren't coming back or filling my order. This place bites.

Not enough bang for the big buck$ they ask. This is not the place to go if you want a lot of good sushi rolls. It has a very creative menu and the food is alright, but I was disappointed with the rolls. Portions are very small and it is rather pricey. Service was great and fast, but unfortunately my budget and taste buds think I will not be back.

My girlfriend had to convince me to come here after I looked at the Yelp reviews and wanted go somewhere else. I eventually caved and agreed. Wow. Might have been the freshest sushi I've had in the past decade. Service was fine. They checked on us a couple times to make sure everything was okay but were very polite and not pushy in the least. I only go to Cambridge a few times each year but would definitely recommend this to anyone in the neighborhood.

It hurts me so... The Copley Square O Sushi (not the one I'm writing about!) was such a huge disappointment that I had personally boycotted the chain. My wife - committing some lesser act of treason - went to the Harvard Sq iteration and promised me that the scene had changed. Well, I stuck by my guns and avoided the place like a religion might mandate. Over one year later and it's a nice summer night and my wife tells me that our baby likes miso soup and sushi rice with soy sauce. Ok. Fine. What's faith without a little bit of testing. So we went. Firstly, the drinks: I ordered a Tanqueray on the rocks and was served a healthy amount of gin. Wonderful beginning. Secondly, the food: the fish was extraordinarily fresh and engaging. I had the spicy fish soup to start with and the sushi with sashimi combo. The soup was delightful: spicy and rich. It was wonderfully flavored, pleasantly fatty (i.e., oily) and full of umami. The soup's calamari was perfectly done and sweet. The small shrimp were the perfect consistency, rich, and in sufficient amount. The fish for the sushi/sashimi combo was something altogether unusual: plentiful and also fresh! The cuts of sashimi were thick with a good mouth feel. The salmon was cut correctly with little connective tissue. The two types of tuna served showed what tuna can do when eaten plainly. The fish tasted of the ocean with none of "dead zone" or ammoniated breath of fish that had been sitting for too long. The seaweed outside of the nigiri was richly toasted and very tasty. One of the pieces of sashimi was a white fish I couldn't identify (I like the adventure and irreproducibility of eating a meal of things I can't identify) that was delicious, although there was a stray bone in it. Usually, this would turn me off, but the fish was so fresh and so intensely delicious that it made no difference. The bone reminded me of how close I was to whatever this fish was being pulled out of the water and being real. Let's talk about the saba (mackerel). Typically, this cut of sashimi is oily and fishy. It leaves a lingering taste in the mouth. When I've eaten it it has reminded me of pickled herring, but drier, and it hasn't been pleasant. But in comes O Sushi saba. This fish was perfectly pickled, sweet and fishy. Its taste danced for the full extent of its song and exited graciously off stage. I've never had such an engaging but softly stated saba. That alone was wonderful and would have made the meal. We went with our 14 month old who was kindly entertained by wait staff who were attentive and friendly. Going early in the evening certainly took the pressure of the staff and let them engage with our little one. So why not five stars? This place is not cheap. I would have enjoyed spending about 10-15% less (next time I'll go with a group-on) even though the fish was that extraordinary. I truly enjoyed the simplicity of the presentation and would not expect a very high caliber sushi restaurant to do much else, but adding some visual allure to the plates might have helped justify some of the expense. Unlike other yelp writers, I didn't find the size of the sushi reprehensible. I thought it was the right size to be enjoyable without being overbearing in texture or flavor. O Sushi belongs to a class of restaurants that are a middle ground between divey and delicious and expensive and decadent. I have a difficult time getting very enthusiastic about this sort of placement in the cuisine world, and that might be feeding into the "lowly" four stars. In any case, I am interested in going again and trying some different cuts of fish (maybe some I can identify). Also, I learned that the Copley Sq branch had closed which offers me great peace of mind. I was right about that hellhole. This O Sushi: a little too "be seen" and a little too "Harvard Sq" (hopefully you know what I mean) delivered delicious fish and a great meal.

Went with friends who got a Groupon for 4. It probably doesn't bode too well for the place that it only opened earlier this year and is already doing deals, but our experience wasn't bad. First of all, the service was very spotty. We arrived late but our friends had been sitting there for over 10 minutes with nobody approaching them for a drink order. After we arrived, I literally had to give the guy who I thought was our waiter a death stare in order for him to make his way over. He was more attentive and the food arrived pretty quickly. I wouldn't say the food is good value, there are much better sushi places in the city for similar or lower prices, but everything we tried was tasty. Everyone's favorite was the Korean style seafood pancake. Very flavorful, and I loved the spiciness of the dipping sauce. As for sushi, the Red Mayan roll was my favorite, the garlic chip on top just makes it. All the other rolls were decent sized, fresh, but not very exciting. Most were just glorified California rolls with a few added ingredients. One thing that did really bother me tho is that they mark up their sake SO MUCH. I dine out a lot and understand that alcohol is where restaurants make their money and therefore the markup is always going to be big. However...charging $34 for a bottle of sake that retails for $12 is just ridiculous. Also...their website doesn't seem to have the correct Harvard Square location menu yet. I like to go online to check menus before dinner, and had found some sakes that I liked on their online menu, but was disappointed to see they offered none of it at this location... I like the food at Osushi enough (I actually used to go to their Copley location quite a bit), but I wouldn't go back without a similar discount deal.

Sushi is good but always a long wait for food to come out. This previous time there was a problem with them giving us change. Will probably go somewhere else next time for sushi.
(2)Emily Z.
Perhaps I'm a sushi snob, but this place really didn't cut it. As many people have mentioned, they are overpriced and not very exciting. They lack serious creative value, which I argue could be made up with larger portions. Serious disappointment actually and I couldn't have been more determined to find another place to go afterwards.

Before getting to my review, I feel it is necessary to get something out of the way. Less than 10% of my reviews are either 2 or 1 star (look at my review distribution if you do not believe me), so I do not take negative reviews lightly. Now, let's move on the the review. Walking in with a group of 8 or 9 on a Saturday night around 11, I couldn't help but notice that there were maybe 6 other patrons here. One small group at a table, and the rest at the bar. On a Saturday night. In Harvard Square. Forlorn? Yep. Premonitory? In retrospect, you bet. Restaurant death sentence? Most definitely. I'm just going to summarize my/our experience here. All of us were Osushi rookies and I doubt any of us will be returning for a second season. * It felt like I was in a nightclub and eating sushi with shitty table service. With the territory came crappy blaring music and I couldn't see anything since it was so dark. * The waitress was aloof, uninterested, and made herself sparse. * Going to Osushi is kind of like going to Chinatown, but the restaurant owners slapped on some hoity-toity embellishments they stole from an interior design show on HGTV. * Overpriced and small portions. The food was fine otherwise. * We had to wait 30 minutes for them to fix their credit card machine. When asked nicely many times what was going on, they were literally avoiding us. At this point we just wanted to go home and go to sleep (this was around 1 am). No answers given. Even going to the bar we were completely brushed aside despite multiple direct attempts to find out what was happening. At this point there are only a few other people remaining here. WTF? Had we been kept involved with the issue, we would have been more than happy to go to an ATM and pay in cash. I understand things happen, but come on. This was so easily avoided. Just. Tell. Us. What. Is. Going. On. It's a shame such a great location is home to Osushi.
(2)Andrew S.
Overpriced and underwhelming. Food was mediocre at best. The dish I had was really fatty with low quality meat.
(2)Andrew W.
The dragon roll had so little eel in it that it was mostly a cucumber roll. The ramen looked AMAZING and then tasted like absolute nothing. I don't even know how it's possible to have ramen with no flavor at all. No salt, even the pork was somehow bland and tasteless. Anyway, nothing tasted terrible, presentation was good, the waiter was cool, service was slowish, but generally the food just didn't have a lot (or any) flavor and the rice to fish ratio on the sushi was worse pretty poor. Still waiting for a good sushi restaurant in Harvard Square.... maybe I'll open my own....

Excellent and inventive sushi.

Went here for dinner because my SO loved the chirashi. I ordered the black miso cod appetizer and was sort of disappointed. For the price I'm paying, I think the cod should be a little bigger. I've had it at other places and it was definitely better. Presentation wise--all the food were very pretty and great. I ordered the volcano roll and it was oishi! We also ordered one of the special rolls with unagi tempura on top. That was very interesting to eat, as it was a little bit too big for one bite. We also ordered the chirashi and my SO loved it. The raw fish, tamago, and cucumbers were cut into cube sizes so that was different. Service was a bit slow but the waiter was nice. Overall, I thought it was ok.

I waited a few days to write this review so I could really think it through. I've been to this place about a dozen times. Mostly for a business lunch and a few times for dinner . The service is hit or miss--slightly distracted, for example, mixing up orders and have a drink come 15 minutes after it has been ordered. However, nothing could top my experience last week. When we arrived (party of 2) several tables were available. It was about 6pm. The hostess and a manager (don't know why they have one if the service is so bad) were both up front discussing something. We were taken through the whole restaurant for a table before making a detour at the bar. Once my friend had a seat, the host or a server blocked an entrance to my seat while she was talking to another party. I had to wait to have a seat until she finished speaking. Then another server came in to take a drink order with the "whatever attitude" When I got my martini, it was warm with a smallest amount of alcohol possible. Actually, I think there was none. Our new server was great--very friendly and efficient. Our food came up wrong. My whole plate was taken with wrong sushi roll being removed. Out server asked us for a feedback and we commented on a quality of our cocktails. She spoke with a manager, but after 10 minutes of wait, he never came up to us. He did, however, awkwardly walked by out table at least three times without saying a word. We finally could not wait anymore and requested a bill. It's obvious that this place is ran by incompetent people. Quality of price and food: prices are really high and sushi are flavorless and I know why... Anything made with eel should provide great flavor, but the amount of eel is minuscule. Rice is not chewy. Several rolls fall apart. I only get a simple roll because I want to see some fish. Most fancy rolls have fillers such as scallion, cucumber. In any case, I would walk to cafe sushi and bring my business also where. Too bad since the location is very convenient.

I have a friend who delivers fresh seafood and he recommended this place. The atmosphere was nice not to over the top hip but a nice modern feel. I had muguro which is a fav of mine and a specialty roll which I cannot remember exactly what was in it....either way it was great! Service was speedy and not over the top just how I like it. I will head back when I am in the mood for some sushi in Cambridge.

Went to Osushi with 6 people and sat outside. One person in the group said she was allergic to avocado and was told by the waitress that was no problem. The sushi roll that arrived was almost all avocado and rice. Should have left at that point. The service was terrible but the worst part of the evening was when the one person that ordered sashimi yellowtail along with eel sushi became violently ill later in the night. Hard to know which item made her so ill but we will never return to this restaurant.
(1)aj j.
Terrible service. The dish we ordered came out wrong and they wanted to charge us to have it replaced with the proper dish. I had to ask to speak with the manager to rectify the situation. Not a pleasant experience. The plus to this place is the nice ambiance, but the food is overpriced for the quality, and the service is the worst I've had at any restaurant, ever.
(1)Magie Q.
I wish I can give 7 stars!!! I love this place. People are really friendly and nice and food is not expensive and exquisite!
(5)Hannah G.
Never seen such a lack of professionalism or respect for the restaurant business as the "hosts" at osushi. One guy said it would be 5 minutes and to wait at the bar for our table- ok, fine. 45 minutes later... we sit unacknowledged at the bar. But what's been happening in the meantime is the best: what's the host doing instead of attending to customers. Oh, he's just taking shots. no big deal. He high fives some friends that come in, they go outside for a smoke and light up while the door's still open, so naturally the place starts to reak of smoke. 3 tables sit empty in the tiny restaurant... um, one should be ours, right? We've been here for at least 30 minutes at this point. Nope. Those tables are for the friends of the host. And the others? For a couple of walk-ins. Ok, cool. They just clearly lied to us in the beginning and proceeded to ignore us the whole night. I honestly think they had no intention of serving us. The host is too busy getting wasted hanging out with friends. Note to this dude: this is your job, show some respect (for the business and the customers) And the "manager"? (Or some guy in a suit) What was he doing the whole time? He was nit-picking over the arrangement of mint leaves in some mojitos (or whatever cocktails he was amking). He spent minutes arranging garnishes- and rearranging in classic OCD style- right in front of us, hungry at the bar! After 45 minutes I tell the "manager" that we're leaving. His response? Well, it definitely wasn't "Oh, I'm sorry the wait's been a little long, we'll have a table for you soon" or even "we're sorry for the delay, but hope you'll come again soon". Nope. His response. "OK THANK YOU, BYE." Do you seriously have so little respect for your restaurant and your customers that you would act this way? I explained that I saw walk-ins getting tables after us, and, like akin to a child getting caught covered in chocolate sauce, his response was "No, No, I didn't seat people that came in after." Either this guy is delusional, or just has the mentality of a 4 year old. In sum- the unprofessionalism of this restaurant is literally unparalelled. And who wants to go to a restaurant and be talked down to? Especially when the place smells of smoke, and the prices are $15 for a roll. I can't advise on how the food is, but I can advise that you probably don't wanna go here due to the sheer (for lack of a better word) douchebaggery of the employees. After all, do you want your money to go to restaurant with hard-working, kind, hospitable employees, or do you want it to go to obvlivious, careless individuals who clearly don't care whether you're there or not? If they don't care that I'm leaving, clearly they are not worth my money, let alone time.

I absolutely disagree with previous reviewers who complained about service. I think, what happened is that it has been significantly improved after multiple negative comments. In our case the service was superb: very attentive and rather fast. The food was mostly very good. We had yellowtail carpaccio, seafood pancake, grilled mackerel and beef short ribs. Short ribs was rather tough and hard to chew, however, other stuff was very delicious. As a way to improve for the restaurant, besides short ribs, I'd also definitely recommend to expand the desert menu.

Jesus, what a nightmare this place is. Made reservations for Valnetine's day for 8pm. Due to uncontrollable events (traffic), we arrived at 8:15. The first host was nice and said he could seat us in 5-10 mins, which is totally acceptable. About 30 seconds later, a guy walks up in a suit and tie and says "I already gave your table away, its gonna be awhile" and walks away. Meanwhile, there are at least 4 empty tables I can see, we sit at the bar and wait for a table, 10, 20, 30 mins goes by, nothing. We told the host we were leaving because they've seated 4 people around us, and he denied this by saying "I DID NOT"!. Literally the worst service I've ever had, the host was even having shots at the bar and smoking cigs outside in the meantime!! Unbelievable. Thanks for botching it, Osushi. I also think it's kinda funny that the first one star review gets a nasty/defensive message from the owner. The reason I chose to go to Osushi was because of the great reviews that I read, how about thanking those people for bringing new people in? This place will never see me as a customer.

Don't go here! Been twice. Service is awful. They forget about you. We never got plates or soy sauce. They forgot to serve part of our order. When you leave your clothes smell like a fried food
(1)Taylor T.
Over priced and super slow delivery. I ordered through Foodler but they had their own delivery guy. I ordered salmon maki, which is what I order wherever I go for sushi. It's not very fancy, just seaweed, rice, and salmon. It was sloppily rolled and didn't taste good. It wasn't spoiled (I hope) but it just didn't taste decent. Huge let down, I was super hungry and looking forward to yumminess :(
(2)Bonnie K.
Absolutely love it here. The sushi is always so fresh and delicious. Very creative rolls and the sashimi platter is a great value. I've had a couple different servers there and they're always on top of drinks and very patient.
(5)Julie L.
Went there with a big group that closed the place just for us (it was a Thursday after 10pm though). Sushi was good and the place seemed really nice. Looking forward to go back for a proper meal.
(4)Olof V.
Been here twice. Both times had amazing (5 star) food. The first time around I had some delicious sushi and the second time I had the stir-fry oxtopus that was out of this world! Service been average both times. Will totally be back for some more of the yummy food!
(4)Vincent C.
The food was not bad by any means. The rolls are pretty fancy and creative. The appetizers were generally pretty tasty. That being said, I've had much better sushi with better portion sizes around Boston that was much less pricey (Haru in Back Bay for example). While the service and ambiance was very nice, it's incredibly unlikely that I go back.
(2)Kimmy U.
Slightly higher than average, but not quite upscale japanese/korean restaurant. Like most sushi restaurants, they have sushi combos, main entrees, and a large cocktail list. The inside is modern nicely presented, but the large open windows didn't really fit the theme. Two of us shared the sushi dinner, hamachi appetizer, and cioppino fish stew -Sushi dinner: 7 pieces of sushi + tuna roll. Every single piece of fish was REALLY fresh and delicious. I really enjoyed the quality. It came with salmon, snapper, yellowtail, shrimp, 2 pieces of tuna, and one other fish. -Hamachi ponzu: a little on the salty side, but the dish was fine as it was. My brother liked it more than I did, but it was good to try. Not that impressive, but still had good flavor from the ponzu sauce that was a little thicker than I've had before -Cioppino fish stew: I was actually really hesitant to get this because what I pictured didn't seem that great.. HOWEVER, this was my favorite dish of the night. It's basically a seafood stew mixed in a tomato sauce and garnished with garlic bread. There were mussels, clams, and fish. The fish was my favorite because it was grilled first, so it was crispy on the outside but nice and flaky on the inside. The sauce was chunky with a lot of tomatoes and was flavored with garlic and other herbs so it didnt just taste like seafood in tomato sauce. It comes with rice, but that pairing doesn't really go together because it seemed more like an italian dish, so more bread would've been better rather than rice. Overall, we had a good experience here but prices are a little steep and I dont know if I would go without a groupon or discount.
(3)Halle R.
Not sure what all the bad reviews are about. I've only ever gotten the lunch bentos, which are overpriced but generously portioned and tasty. I agree with previous reviewers about the lightness of the spices, but I was happy with that- it feels healthy. It's usually pretty quiet for lunch, also, which is nice. One star gets docked for the prices being pretty high. I'm not sure I'd come here for dinner without a groupon, for that reason.
(3)Chris T.
This is one of the best restaurants in this area. The customer service is top-notched, and the food is excellent. This past new years we had a blast! Its a very warm and welcoming environment. The bartender makes really good drinks, and all the staff are very attentive. I really appreciate how they cater to their customers and try to provide the best experience for everyone. Chris
(5)Alycia R.
Really horrible dining experience. Problems: 1) The waitress was extremely pissed off to be serving us. Smiling and being pleasant must not be in her job description. It was as if we were doing her an inconvenience for sitting down and ordering food. 2) Painfully long wait for below average sushi. 3) THERE WAS A HUGE BUG that landed on a table. A woman screamed and moved tables while the bartender tried to kill the bug. Not sure if he found it, but he did say out loud "I told him to keep that fucking door closed!" 4) I watched someone try to get a drink at the bar but this same bartender was too busy telling a story to the other bartender to pay attention to his customers. 5) We finally get our check and provide the waitress with a credit card to pay for it. She proceeds to enter the credit card details into her device AT OUR TABLE, and hands me the thing to type in the tip amount (WHILE SHE'S WATCHING). This is so unprofessional! How does this place not have a credit card machine? Print out a receipt and let me leave the tip without the awful waitress hovering over my shoulder. Really, really bad idea. The restaurant was close to dead so I don't see any excuse for such bad service. This place is clearly not managed well but gets business because of its location. Will not be returning.
(1)Kimberly L.
I can't really say I'm the most impressed with this place. Pros: great location, decent sized menu, good cocktails Cons: I judge a sushi place on whether I want to order sashimi or maki there. My favorite sushi places have such fresh, delicious fish that I get the sashimi. Places with just okay fish I get maki. This is definitely a maki place, and not even a great one at that. Finally, can't forget about the horrible service and the fact it took me 30 min to get a single order of spicy tuna when it was dead in there. Conclusion? This place looks like a super trendilicious date night spot, but don't bother.
(3)Sophia S.
DELICIOUS! We got the gyoza, edamame, spicy tuna, and shrimp tempura. It was SO fresh. The service was quick and attentive. Loved it and will definitely come back.
(5)Andrew K.
So-so. Cool vibe and good location. That said, the prices were too high (my small roll was like $14) and the portions too small - actually my lunch partner's bento (which wasn't technically a bento) was a generous portion.
(3)Meredith L.
Needed a quick lunch take out option. Stopped in ordered the ahi tuna salad and shumai. From order to completion in less than 10 minutes. And delicious!
(4)Yanet V.
Location: 5 Sat next to the window to get some sun. Service: 3 Was ok, our server barely new anything on the menu. Took forever to get our food order and drinks. Food: 4.5 we got the Maya on Fire which was ok, different texture. I'd get it if you want to try something different. I got the crunchy shrimp, my friends got Vegetable Tempura Maki & California which were delicious. Would come again if just walking in the area but not a place I'd plan to go.
(3)Michelle S.
I give O Sushi 3.5 stars but rounded down due to the service. Service: 3 stars Ambience: 4 stars Food: 4 stars Presentation: 4.5 stars From personal experience and anecdotes, the service at O Sushi has declined this past year. We went on Saturday at 6:30PM, and the place was at capacity, but the restaurant was understaffed. Our waitress was curt and rushed, and we had to wait around 10 minutes for someone to bring a soy sauce dish for us and another 20 minutes for us to get the check. For the price, this is not the service you'd expect. The ambience makes for a great date spot or place to have an elegant meal with friends. The price is steep for the quantity of food - the specialty rolls are delicious (spicy Maya roll is great) but there are approximately 6 pieces of sushi for $14-$16. The salmon and crab avocado salad is delicious and absolutely beautifully presented. Warning: there's a lot of tobiko, and it's not actually a salad aka there are no leaves. I also had the tuna maki, which was simple but perfectly wrapped. Would also recommend the volcano roll or the spicy Maya roll. P.S. Why doesn't O Sushi participate in Boston Restaurant Week?
(3)Catherine R.
The waiter was very nice & understanding! The hostess knew where I wanted to sit becuz my daughter Cece take up so much space w/ the stroller. She sat us outside nice & cool out & have us room to breathe spaced out! The spicy seafood soup was a too salty & the beef bulgogi is kind of bland needs more seasoning! The sushi is good here & I like hot sake w/ my chaser soda! Lol The food was expensive & the dinner menu selection was small!
(3)Kevin J.
Food: 2/5 Service: 2/5 This is my second time coming to O Sushi; my first visit was probably around 2 years ago, and they've gotten significantly worse in my opinion. The overall atmosphere has also changed; Before, it was a more class institution with perhaps higher prices but better quality service and environment. Now, it seems to have taken on the same feel as its neighbors at Charlie's Beer Garden, as more of a fusion bar. I ordered the Maya on Fire for $16, expecting a wonderful special roll that was not only generous in portion but also in appealing in taste. Too bad it didn't meet either of these expectations. The roll is literally spicy tuna on top with a small dried piece of garlic and shrimp tempura inside. Not tasty or "on Fire" at all. More importantly, the roll was miniscule. It was 8 pieces, but they were practically the size of those tiny rolls you usually get for a couple of dollars at cheap sushi places. O Sushi needs to get their act together. If I were paying for the meal, I would definitely be disappointed, but it was paid for by a student group so I guess I can't complain about a free dinner. At least the edamame was cheap ($4) and larger in portion (maybe even larger than my sushi!).
(2)Emily C.
Not too surprised this was one of the few places that was not all booked up for Labor Day weekend. The setting is nice, and it looks somewhat upscale, but the food is overpriced for its quality. I had the yaki udon for $14 and it tasted like the noodles were tossed in soy sauce with too much black pepper.
(2)Carol K.
We looked at the menu outside and thought the prices were decent and there was outdoor seating, so we gave it a try. First, the prices on the actual menu differ from the posted menu, not cool. They also charge extra for wasabi and ginger, what?? Second, our waitress was extremely unfriendly. No eye contact, no smile, just very negative. Everyone has a bad day, but it does not play well when you are waiting on people. It took her forever to come take our credit card and she never said thank you or anything. The garden salad was tasty, but very small for the price. The maki rolls were decent, nothing spectacular. The Yaki Soba was fine, but the only vegetables in it were peppers and onions, which was disappointing. The busboys obsessively come to fill up water, and some wear strong cologne, which is a major negative in a dining experience. It is intrusive to come as often as they did, especially since our glasses were nearly full every time. Sitting outside was pleasant, until a gentleman came out of the restaurant and stood nearby smoking. As we were leaving, and he said thank you and goodbye to us, it became apparent that he was the owner or manager of the restaurant. Ugh, way to ruin the dining experience for your customers by having your cigarette smoke waft over them as they dine. The only thing I can recommend about this place is the location, which is funky.
(2)Michelle D.
My husband and I have been on a local sushi tour for the last year or so, and O Sushi has emerged as one of our favorites. It's a little pricier than some of our go-to's, but in trade you get a more upscale ambiance. We've only been for dinner, and at night they have this cool projection going on that splashes light and images on the walls, sometimes showing actual Japanese movies, with the sound off of course. Very good sushi, sashimi and makimono. Full bar, and the staff has always seemed knowledgeable about both the menu and the bar choices. Once we were there on a Wednesday and the hostess and waitress made sure we knew that was their special Ramen night. Another time, our waiter brought my husband a free sample of two different saki's to try when he wasn't sure, and took the time to explain the difference. Nice people. Harvard Square is notoriously bad for parking, but O Sushi is right on the 66 bus line. Delicious, nice decor and convenient? Sign me up for O Sushi!
(4)Heidi L.
We went here on a snowy night out of convenience and the fact that we hadn't been there before. My friend got the Tonkatsu ($18) and I initially got the Tiger's Eye Roll ($15). The Harvard Square premium is on full display here, as in I think this might be the restaurant with the highest location markup in the square. The tonkatsu was the size of my hand, which I think is slightly smaller compared to Porter Exchange. but could be polished off by a normal appetite.) The Tiger's Eye roll was tasty (with a good fish to rice ratio of 3:2), but those eight pieces were tiny (probably half the size of a roll at Mixit). I ended up ordering gyoza (6 for $6) because I was still hungry - and yes, the gyoza seemed more like frozen Korean manjoo. The interior is pretty nice (I think they're aiming to be a date spot, which would also partially explain the prices...#signaling) and service was friendly, but it was also difficult to figure out who was taking our orders or the check, which led to a delay in our orders. All in all, we probably should have walked a mile in snow to go to the Exchange.

Just went here tonight for dinner. It would be an understatement to say that I walked out disappointed. My friend and I literally had to walk OUT of the restaurant in order for them to finally notice us. Bottom line: would not recommend. Do not bother coming, unless you have a good three hours to kill over dinner, and you don't mind a terrible service. We came in around 6:30 pm, pretty hungry. The place wasn't too crowded--we saw a few people sipping drinks at the bar (the bartenders seemed nice, though, and were in deep conversation with the customers), and only a couple of tables were occupied. But the waiter decided to sit the two of us at the bar area---at an awkward, tiny corner table where the two of us were sitting side-by-side rather than facing each other--even though there were plenty of seats elsewhere, such as along the windows, etc. Why? No idea. Whatever. Still, we didn't make too much fuss about it, though, and ordered our ceviche and two maki rolls, and waited. And waited.... And waited... And waited. After about 40 minutes of waiting, I had to wave around a little to catch the attention of the waitress and ask her to check on our order for us, as we could see that other people who had walked in after us had gotten their sushi orders already, but we had nothing on our table except our chopsticks and water. The ceviche--phew--finally came out about five minutes later. It tasted okay--a good mix of salmon, roe, octopus, etc. in a martini glass in good dressing, but nothing to write home about, and definitely not a lot in terms of quantity. After we finished this little appetizer, it was back to the waiting game again. We waited, waited, and waited.. But alas, the two makis never came. We had ordered one Volcano Maki and one Snow White maki. Finally, after about 25 minutes of more waiting, we decided to leave. I asked for the check from our waiter, who began apologizing profusely, asking us to "wait five minutes", and telling us that "he couldn't have us leave unhappy." Well, it was a little too late for that. The check also never came, so I just paid cash for the ceviche, and the two of us walked out. And literally as we walked out, the waiter waved the little plate of the Snow White Maki (what HAPPENED to the volcano maki?) in front of our faces, but we were done waiting for the night and our sushi-craving was long gone by then. We ended up grabbing dinner elsewhere afterwards.

As a longtime fan of the O Sushi in Copley Square, I was really looking forward to checking out this Cambridge location. I'm happy to report that the Harvard Square O Sushi delivered on all levels, and even surpassed the original location in terms of host friendliness and server attentiveness. The interior had the same vibe, a bit more open, with a separated bar area and screens projected on the walls. The outdoor seating area looked too dingy to me at first, and I was afraid we'd be too close to the foot traffic, but it ended up being lovely and felt private and tucked against the building. Tea lights were brought to our table just as the sun was setting. I ordered my usual maki rolls and they were as fresh and flavorful as I always remembered. Nothing makes me happier than consistency and reliability. Now that I'm living on the other side of the River, it is a comfort to know I can depend on O Sushi to make me feel like I never left Boston.

I find it hard to believe that as of today (7.21.14) this restaurant is only 2.5 stars! We went for the first time yesterday and LOVED it. My love affair with Japanese food began at age 19 when I studied macrobiotic cooking which leans towards Japanese food. O Sushi's miso soup is very authentic with just the right amount of miso, seaweed and tofu. I'm so happy to finally have a Japanese restaurant of this quality in Cambridge now!! Our waitress was awesome; she noticed we needed help from a long distance away with only a slight nod of the head! She practically ran to us. Some waiters/waitresses at other restaurants take FOREVAH to help unless you jump up and down! just kidding, not so bad, but still. LOL impressive here as I noticed other patrons here being helped, thank you! We got The Bento plates filled with our chosen entree, mine was shrimp with tempura vegetables, my husband's was cod fish, plus a salad with delicious ginger dressing, steamed dumplings, mixed veggies, pickles, and rice. The price is a little high at lunchtime for $14 per plate, but we oood and aaahd thru the entire meal. Be sure to get the 7 grain rice!! and not the white rice. We are going back soon with friends! I'm so glad this restaurant exists; I was waiting a long time!! However, since the prices are a little high at lunchtime, we won't go as often as we would like to. Unless we go light in a meal -- good luck!

The best I could say about this place was that I liked the painting on the back wall. My husband and I were walking through Harvard Square and kinda tired of our usual spots for dinner. He felt like sushi and we have passed this place a thousand times, always suspect since there never seems to be anyone in there, while other restaurants are packed. Tonight, there were several people in there and we thought we would give it a chance. It's a Tuesday night. How bad could it be?? Well, it started off with some attitude and we stood waiting to be greeted and eventually seated. The menu surprised us for a sushi restaurant as there weren't a lot of options. Our waitress was less than helpful. The sushi was meh. Tasted like week-old rice. Very disappointed for sushi in a prime location in Harvard Square.

Was here on a Sunday at 4pm and it was extremely slow even for Labor Day weekend! Their was one waitress on for the entire restaurant. The menu literally had white-out on it and things crossed off which was a bit ....strange. Not a very large menu at all. I ordered the TNT and Seared Salmon Specialty Roll. Both were very good although I would say the TNT was really really good and had a nice heat to it. The Salmon Roll was very light. Not heavy at all. I do feel however that it was missing something. Like a special sauce or dressing. Paired with the TNT it was a nice refreshing combo since the heat of the TNT was so powerful. The rolls could have been put together nicer as they were falling apart immediately. The sushi experience lacked a bit of luster. I wish I had more options to choose from on the menu. I love deep fried sushi and unfortunately they do not have any of this type. If your looking for a variety, this really is not the best place. This was my second time here and I had hoped for a better experience but it was much like the first (a year ago). Menu is small, restaurant itself is kind of boring. Experience was ...meh! The focus does not appear to be on the food but more on the night life that it must draw in. I've not been but I did see signage for the after hours. I will choose somewhere else next time I am craving sushi!

So sad to have wasted money here. I had this sliced Beef steaks that came out sizzling, but they were TINY. As were the Beef Bulgogi that my friend ordered. The marinade was rather bland and half the dish was just onions, with just a few sad red/green pepper slices thrown in. We also ordered a couple of rolls, the Red Dragon roll and the Rainbow roll, which are pretty standard, I feel, and they were also pretty mediocre. Our bill came out to $70 including tip for two tiny, bland entrées and two mediocre rolls - definitely do not recommend this place. Not good for taste quality or price. The ambiance was pretty good, so I can understand why you'd choose it for a date spot, but I'm pretty sure your date would judge your lack of taste in Japanese/Korean cuisine.

I came here with my sister on a Saturday evening, because we had a Groupon (otherwise, we probably would not choose to dine here because of the overly priced items). We made a reservation for 6:30p, but because we were running late, we called to postpone to 7p. The lady who answered the phone said that because they are usually busy at night, they cannot guarantee our table if we came any later. This was confusing to me, because when we arrived, there were so many empty tables... Anyways, despite that, we found that the entire service staff was extremely nice and sweet. The water refills came almost immediately, and there is also complimentary ocha green tea upon request. The decor of the place was fancy and well-kept; I especially liked the dark-paneled flooring and walls, which with the dim lights and tabletop candles really set a calming mood. We started off with the tuna tartare, which was very fresh and tasty. We each had a bowl of miso soup and ordered edamame, Dragon roll, Seared Salmon roll, and Philadelphia roll to share. The rolls were very compact, and nicely presented. I am not a Japanese-food connoisseur, so I thought that the food was very satisfying. All in all, I had a wonderful experience dining at O Sushi, primarily because the staff was so nice and friendly and the ambiance was so calm. The dinner menu is definitely pricey though, and I probably will only come back if I have another Groupon to use...

The place was empty with at least 6 waitstaff on. I waited more than 5 minutes before a server came over. Maguro sushi was pale and strung with inedible strands of fat. At $6 it was overpriced as well. Tried the Wednesday ramen bowl for $12. Miso base with pork shoulder. It was tasty and hot, though the pork was slightly tough and the noodles were dried and not fresh. Still, much better than the sushi and a fair price.

I kept seeing this place while going through Harvard Square and outside and in, it's beautiful. The food, not so much. The sushi was mealy and was easily comparable to something I could have gotten at the supermarket.

Great service! (young bartender from Nepal was amazing). Love the sushi and drinks selection. A+
(5)S C.
Great lunch venue. I went with friends during a quiet Thursday afternoon and the waitstaff was very kind and attentive to us. The food came out quickly and was definitely delicious. The only thing I didn't like was the size of the sushi was the smallest I've seen in the Boston area. The waitstaff also weren't happy that we were sticking around after the food was done and wanted us to leave immediately. Overall a decent food venue, but not good enough to be a favorite.
(4)Dijana V.
Great food the sushi is a but different than I am used to (rice was a bit warm and more sticky) but the it was really fresh. Great noodle dishes and appetizers were the bomb. I would recommend getting these over the sushi if you're particular about your sushi. There was a nice relaxed ambiance with dimmed lighting. Good customer service. There was really good live music when we went last Saturday night which was a plus!
(4)Leona Z.
Aaahhh... The potential. I like this place! The bar lighting, hot waitress (albeit she needed a little more training on the menu which could have avoided an awkward interaction with the manager), bench seating options, slate looking tables, good music volume/design (loud enough to hear the music but don't have to yell over it), and even the Christmas decorations! Think lounge/club that serves sushi. Unfortunately I didn't get to try the food... The kitchen was closed on my Christmas Day visit, but double stars for being open on Christmas - and playing festive ethnic music!!
(4)John G.
Good omen when I asked to take out an order of ramen and the chef refused, saying it would not taste right. So I sat at the bar and had the shoyutonkotsu ramen, well worth the extra effort.

I am writing a two part review. This poor review is for the Bibimbap. If you like Bibimbap and have ordered it elsewhere, do not order it here or you risk being severely disappointed. While the rice and veggies were fresh and steamed correctly, it was a small portion. Also, I am used to getting the egg cooked and layered on top and this was raw on top (stir to cook). The extremely disappointing part was that the beef was like a tablespoon of steamed or boiled hamburger. In other words, ground beef. And I am not exaggerating the tablespoon amount. The amount was so small you could not taste it. And there was no seasoning. It is $16 and while that is not a bad price, when you compare the amount you get elsewhere (say Hong Kong Market Food court in Allston where it is $10- although a food court atmosphere) is more beef - sliced pieces of beef not ground beef in a teaspoon - makes it not a worthwhile purchase at this location, Review Edit: apparently I am not allowed to write two reviews. Otherwise I would give the restaurant 3 stars - staff was excellent - attentive and quick - we had a time limit - and the place was fun, upbeat and had a nice decor. It offers a sushi bar, regular bar and table dining high and low. I would definitely go back again but not order the bibimbap.

We went in here at the last minute, anticipating previously mentioned fruit flies, dirty plates, poor service and expensive food, but we are happy to report that we found none of these sloppy distractions during a quiet lunch visit. In fact, we had a lovely time. The lunch deals are decent (we were not drinking during lunch hour, so I can't comment on the beer or sake prices), the portions are large and the waitress we had was delightful. She made sure we had fresh water, gave us new plates when we needed them and then ascertained that we liked our meals by checking in shortly after serving us. We did not feel rushed, nor did we feel ignored. We split some delicious fresh rolls, but next time I want to try the lunch special which provides you with miso soup, salad and two maki rolls for $15. The location is fantastic, right in the middle of Harvard Square. It's so close to Cafe Sushi, which is right down Mass. Ave., that they have some stiff competition (and Cafe Sushi is better), but all in all, it's not as horrible as I thought it would be. In fact, it was a pleasant mid-day experience.
(3)Ada B.
The service was pretty bad. The waiter came back 3 time to verify our order and we waited a long time for our food. My sushi was also pretty dry.
(1)Gabe R.
Sushi was not great - flavors and sauces on specials were off, and the basics were just OK. Service was friendly but slow, and forgot our appetizer. Ramen (Wednesdays only) was delicious. Apparently they do Salsa lessons on Saturday nights, which seems alarming for a sushi restaurant.
(2)Molly L.
I've rarely felt so welcome in a restaurant. Grabbed lunch to take back to work today, and not only did the manager offer me green tea while I waited but chatted pleasantly about upcoming events and comparable Asian restaurants in the area. The sushi, miso soup and salad combo was a great lunch deal. I got the crazy roll and the salmon-avocado-cucumber roll; I wouldn't say the sushi rolls were elaborate, but they were very decent and I'll be coming back in to see what they offer for dinner.

I should say that we came here with a large discount from Groupon, so the price seemed less of an issue, but it did come down to about $17/person with a single roll and no drinks. Would I come here again? Probably. Would I rush here without a groupon? Unlikely. There are other places with ambiance just as nice and prices not quite as high. All the rolls were good, though rainbow was not as amazing as it sounded on paper. It ended up having weird combinations of fish cut together and kind of falling apart. The portions are fair, but as usual, one roll can feed a not-super-hungry adult but will not do for anyone who is very hungry and, in case of my friends, a male. If you are craving multiple rolls and want to try things around, this is not a place. If you are looking for a nice hip lunch spot, by all means - sushi O is wonderful!
(4)Hana K.
Stylish and hip sushi joint in the heart of Harvard. Do not mistaken with Osushi in Boston! But this place is just as good. We had the Groupon for edamame, two appetizers, and three rolls -- all VERY generous portions! We were having a difficult time deciding on our order so our exotic and cute Vietnamese waitress suggested a few items that we LOVED! Thanks Sue. Must-try appetizers: Kanpachi (?) white fish carpaccio (recommended by server) -- A staple Japanese fish interestingly prepared Italian style, thinly sliced, and with shaved cheese Toro Tartare -- Delicious chunks of the best part of the tuna, Toro (most people don't know that in Japan there are three types of tuna parts: Ohtoro, Toro and Maguro) balanced out with crunchy water chestnuts (?) and a delicious wasabi aioli sauce Must-try sushi: Fire Special Sushi (recommended by server) -- The tenderness of the tuna balanced out perfectly with crunchy fried garlic chips and okura (?!) with a surprising kick of truffle oil -- absolutely delightful! Wasn't too crazy about the TNT -- baked salmon was way too dry Highly recommend sitting outside in the patio tables overlooking a cute little cobble stone street and a very funky Beer Garden -- very European like. However, beware on cold days because when I went in late September, they did not have a heating lamp. Perhaps they would once the weather gets colder.

Went here with a girlfriend and sat outside, it took them 20 minutes to even give us something to drink. Once we were finished eating the waiter didn't ask us if we wanted anything else he just brought out the check. The food was good but I wont be going there again because the service was awful.
(1)Eunice E.
The sushi was definitely just OK (then again, after Genki Ya, any non-organic, non-multi-grainéd rice sushi is JUST OK) -- but the lunch special is a pretty great deal. For $15 (incl. tip), you can get miso soup, a salad, and two maki rolls. That's not bad! My friend and I came here for a nice Harvard Square lunch, and that's exactly what we got, with the large street windows open, and a light breeze in the air. The location is its selling point: nestled on the corner, besides Charlie's, next to STA, across from Brattle Square, etc. The ambiance is that sort of hackneyed "funky Asian feel" a la Red Lantern or some other chintzy place like that. I think it'd be a cool place to grab late-night drinks, but we'll see if I come back for the food (maybe... maybe not).
(3)Alba N.
Osushi is a culinary disappointment. And for the prices they charge you, it's a big one. The two stars I give to this establishment are for the relatively clean and trendy atmosphere and for the prompt and friendly service I received from my server. I came here after a sushi-craving and from finding out about their 20% discount off food (not drink) items for students. For the Chirashi Don I ordered, it came with diced sashimi, tamago (grilled egg), and salmon roe. It was evident the sashimi was diced to cover what was a paltry amount of raw fish (probably one slice per type of sashimi). The tamago was tasteless and carelessly prepared, the chefs evidently ignoring the fact that it is supposed to taste sweet. The saba mackerel was also lacking in flavour. And the Chirashi is priced at a ridiculous $18. The ambiance and service of this place cannot cover up for the poor taste and exaggerated prices. After my discount, my bill came to $30 for an underwhelming experience. Like the majority of the reviewers here, I'm not coming back.
(5)Manfred S.
(2)Halle R.
Chris
(5)Kimmy U.
(3)Meredith L.
Needed a quick lunch take out option. Stopped in ordered the ahi tuna salad and shumai. From order to completion in less than 10 minutes. And delicious!
(4)Alycia R.
(3)Yanet V.
(2)Sophie R.

(4)Leona Z.

(5)Mirta S.
(4)L. G.

(1)Jason B.
(4)Kelsey B.

Must order shishito peppers

"Meh" would be kind. Average sushi, not wildly overpriced, not better than at an Asian supermarket food court though. But at least the service is only disinterested. It's in Harvard Square!

Yum.

I'm going to quote my mother and every single kindergarten teacher of all time: "If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all" El fin **Updated for Amy B - 1 star**

(1)Lisa S.
(2)J T.

(3)Elisa S.
(1)M F.

(2)Sean M.

(1)William H.

(1)Mikhail Z.
(4)Corey L.

Absolutely love it here. The sushi is always so fresh and delicious. Very creative rolls and the sashimi platter is a great value. I've had a couple different servers there and they're always on top of drinks and very patient.

Went there with a big group that closed the place just for us (it was a Thursday after 10pm though). Sushi was good and the place seemed really nice. Looking forward to go back for a proper meal.

Been here twice. Both times had amazing (5 star) food. The first time around I had some delicious sushi and the second time I had the stir-fry oxtopus that was out of this world! Service been average both times. Will totally be back for some more of the yummy food!
