Oh I loved this place. It's a small shop at Harvard square, almost unnoticeable next to the Starbucks store. I loved the Cuban coffee flavor so much I ended up going there three times in a week!

Icecream: 4 Stars Service: 4 Stars The ice cream portions and quality are both great! They have some pretty unique flavors and for the pricing, it's a much better deal than JP Licks. We came here after a meal for quick dessert and weren't disappointed.

Great ice cream! Perfect balance of taste and creaminess, and portions are on point. Thanks for the incredible homemade ice cream! Surely coming back

I wasn't a huge fan. Their ice cream wasn't awful, but it wasn't as creamy as I would have liked and there was nothing really impressive about it. I wouldn't mind getting ice cream here, but with so many other awesome ice cream parlors in Boston I'm not sure if I'll be coming again. If you like something very light, this place might be the place to go!

I came with the family for a second chance still bad. Our ice cream was all ice! We constantly were picking out chunks of ice. On a positive side they have a bunch of flavors.

HORRENDOUS. Went here with a coworker after lunch and wanted to try some tofutti ice cream. The people behind the counter were rude and miserable. Who is that depressed working around ice cream? We came in, excited and perky. I asked what the vegan options were to which one of the guys replied, "It's on the board." Then I look and asked what my topping options were, "It's on the board." Um, okay, rude. My coworker didn't get anything and I ONLY did because I've never had tofutti ice cream (weird, right?). It wasn't that good, anyway, and was way too expensive. The service was terrible so I'll never go back. If I want vegan ice cream, I'll go to JP Licks.

They have an incredibly small store tucked away beside Starbucks on Church street, which can be easy to miss upon first visit. I tried the Chunky Charles -- dark chocolate with almond caramel chunks -- and thought it was quite nice! It was a good flavor pairing and the ice cream was just the right texture and richness. One scoop turned out to be quite generously sized, though probably quite proportional to the price paid... Would recommend getting a lighter flavor to balance out a very sweet flavor if you're not a fan of too many sweets at once. Don't plan to stick around the store and eat your ice cream -- definitely get it and walk around!

My favorite ice cream place in Cambridge -- much better than Toscanini's, imo. I've tried coconut and ginger and coconut is the flavor that makes my dreams come true. I'm usually used to the sorbet version and not many places have coconut, but their's is divine. It's just the right amount between creamy and sorbet-y and has flakes of coconut in it. The ginger didn't make me a fan - the ginger flavor was too weak and it didn't have that amazing creamy balance of coconut. The boyfriend has tried every chocolate flavor on the menu and overall, he loves it but leans towards chocolate cookie dough for its intense chocolate flavor. The line is always manageable, the prices are less than $4 for a single scoop (gigantic scoop) and you can grab a pint to go of your favorite flavor. I hear they have the best frappe, as well. And while you're waiting in line, check out the interesting Cambridge-esque posters! There are a few bar stools but not a great place to hang and enjoy -- just head outside to the square.

Solid ice cream. Got the 1 scoop cup with half a scoop of Mint Oreo and the other half of Colombian Fudge Avalanche Fudge. Serving sizes are huge and the scoopers are friendly. However I would personally choose JP Licks over Lizzy's because JP Licks' ice cream is much more rich and creamy. Definitely recommend!

Fantastic mouthwatering ice cream flavors able to satisfy any ice cream craving person. On my first visit I was impressed by the unique flavors and eager to try them all. I ended up getting Charles River Crunch, Colombian Fudge Avalanche, Chocolate Orgy, and Mocha Chocolate Lace. BEST. COMBO. EVER. Simply pure happiness with every bite. I highly recommend this place and I know I will be back to try their other flavors.

Very yummy ice cream. I had the chocolate cookie dough and it was delicious. A nice large hard packed scoop to boot! I particularly enjoyed this ice-cream for the cold factor. I love super cold ice-cream. I find that the higher cream content ice-cream are just to creamy, heavy, and warm when they hit my tongue. Don't think I mean that this ice-cream is icy, because that is not at all what I'm saying. In fact, not one ice crystal to be found. Lizzy's just seemed to perfect the coldest and most enjoyable ice-cream I have ever eaten! Similar, but better, than Three Twins if you've ever had that before. Friendly staff, but the storefront is just so dark, depressing, and dingy. Hence the four star in lieu of five. Best in town!

We came here earlier this week because JP Licks was overrun by a plague of teen boppers. Not wanting to abandon my ice cream craving we walked over to Lizzie's. I've had Lizzie's once or twice before and I can't really pin point why I don't come here more often. The youths that plagued JPs were nowhere to be seen and we were served almost immediately. There isn't really a sitting area so you pretty much get your ice cream and go (this would make JPs way better in winter but it's summer so outdoor ice cream eating it is!). I got a kiddie scoop of maple walnut-I tend to like these flavors. It's a bit creamier than JPs and the taste is not as sharp (and maybe a bit sparse nut-wise) but I found that the nuts were better roasted so there wasn't as much of a bitter nut skin flavor. My friend ordered mocha chocolate lace-he enjoyed it. I tend to stay away from coffee flavors but I will say this, it was a dense chocolate and coffee flavor so it's not for those who don't take well to caffeine but must be heaven for those who do because it actually tastes like a mocha coffee in icecream form, not toned down by the cream at all.

This place is a great little oasis of rad! I am here for a two month work contract from NYC, where vegan food and ice cream is on every corner, so naturally, I expected the same here. However, none of my coworkers share the same enthusiasm for soy and dairy free products as I. I wanted to find a place that suited everybody's needs and these guys totally owned it! I am skeptical of any product that says "dairy free" because it doesn't meant that's it's always vegan, but when I saw that this place carries Tofuti I jumped for joy!!! The portions are HUGE, which, for the price, is amazing!!! Vegan options are limited but for those who do eat dairy the flavored are endless. Highly recommend!

Ok this place is a conundrum. They have tasty ice cream. They can not understand and deliver your order correctly. Then again they dont know how to charge you right either which can be beneficial. So the munchkin and I cruised in here on our last day in the Boston area. She ordered a chocolate cookie dough kids scoop and I ordered a mint oreo scoop... Well I got a kids scoop of mint oreo and the munchkin got a chocolate regular scoop. When I later looked at the bill I realized we both got charged for kids scoops. Pro Tip: Parking is hellish and at a minimum an extra $5 unless you can get a meter =\ The folks working here were quite nice and pleasant. They had one table inside and a couple of chairs outside. So needless to say it was a tiny shop. Overall they were pretty busy and had 2 dudes worken here when we dropped through. The ice cream tasted great overall so in the end we both enjoyed our stop in here on a pleasant slightly warm day...

I ordered a DIY sundae party for an orientation event. When I called to put in my order, they were great, letting me know that I could do 1 more flavor than I thought, and helping me figure out how many gallons of each and what might be popular. At the actual event, they delivered a bit early (better than late!), and everything ran really smoothly. Everything was absolutely delicious, including the dairy-free sorbet and Tofutti. The only downside was that we had a TON of toppings left over, but my guess is they decide how much to send based on kids; parties, and the grad students we were serving were a little more sparse with toppings. The ice cream was great, the toppings were great, the service was great. I would definitely order again!

The ice cream had a very watery taste, no very flavorful. The woman behind the counter didn't tie her long hair and was wearing a tank top while digging deep for ice cream, it was gross !!!

Lizzy's Ice Cream is tucked into Harvard Square, and is a gem that everyone must try on a visit. Serving sizes are huge here, and the place feels very personable and homey. The owner, Nick, is an extremely interesting and kind person as well! Definitely recommend for anyone trying to get a quick snack.

Very small place but has a very wide selection of flavors. I've tried their ice cream cakes yet, but for ice cream a kiddie size with sugar cone will be enough to cheer me up for the day. My favorite flavors are: butter crunch and strawberries! 1 scoop with waffle cone is also a good choice if you don't mind to gain some weight and be happy about it! Love to support local vendors and this place is a very cute store to hang out.

Stop #2 on my ice cream tour, and tying for #3 (out of 4) for taste on my personal list. I opted for the Butter Crunch, which was really good. My friend had the Charles River Crunch, which she said was amazing. The 3, rather than 4, stars are because 1 - this joint was kind of expensive and 2 - the young kids working here could use a little bit of customer service training. I know this is just a dinky summer job for them, but you should probably put down the iphone when you have customers.

Dan M.
small shop, big heart. These guys do it right... the menu has enough flavor options to keep me coming back, not too many that it's overwhelming. You can order MALT as a topping which to me is the sign of an ice cream parlor that knows what's up. On top of all that, going out for ice cream is an activity and the location is important. A place either needs a great spot to sit and chat, or a good neighborhood to stroll around. Strolling Harvard Square on a hot summer night with some Lizzy's is a great "let's go out for ice cream" experience.

Stacy G.
I love great homemade ice cream and it's so hard to find in our area. When we travel we always hope we stumble upon a great local ice cream shop. Lizzy's ice cream was the best I've had in years! It was not too rich, dense and creamy with just the perfect amount of add-ins mixed throughout. The butter crunch made we wish we had one more day in Boston so we could go back for more!
(5)
Rosa S.
I am no longer a loyal fan to JP Licks after trying Lizzy's ice cream. The mini/kids size cone is the perfect amount if you're not in the mood for an entire cone.
(4)
Cathy Z.
One word: lackluster. I dunno if it's the not-quite-smooth texture or fact that most flavors could be just a hint more, um, flavorful, but I've been here several times (thanks to the convenient, if cramped location on Church St.) and always find myself wishing I'd made the extra two-block trek to JP Licks or Ben & Jerry's. They do have a good variety of flavors, and I definitely appreciate the reasonable (for Harvard Sq., at least) prices: I usually get a kiddie and it comes to $3.45 with tax--that's at least a dollar cheaper than a small at B&J, folks! The mini cones for like $1.85 are also an awesome deal, but I think the fact that you would only want about two mouthfuls of ice cream pretty much sums up my feelings on this place. The service is pretty variable: last time I went the two guys behind the counter were super friendly and fast, but I've gone during off-peak hours and the guy didn't even look up from the Sabado Gigante he had blasting on the shop TV to serve us. If you, an adventurous Yelper, go: try the Mad Dog Mango! It has big chunks of habanero mixed in and it is HOT! Like, "Are you sure? Have you tried this before? It's pretty spicy. We have regular mango sorbet..." hot. Like, 20 minutes later on the verge of tears in the Church-JFK alley hot. But on a 90-degree night? For once, Lizzy's may have been worth the trip.

Read about how they had the best Frappes according to Best of Boston rankings in 2013 by Boston Magazine. Headed over and ordered two: vanilla and mint Oreo. What a disappointment. Never again. Maybe the rest of their menu is good but not the frappes - they were not thick or rich or silky or flavorful. It kinda tasted like melted ice cream.

Absolutely in love. Flavors are all spot on in terms of taste. Pricing is decent, and the "kiddie cones" sound extremely interesting. They've got a lot of flavors that don't really even require additional toppings because of the added bits of texture. I usually hate coffee based ice cream, but I have to admit, Lizzy's did a real nice job with theirs. Kiddie cones + 1 scoop are like $1.50, which you really cannot beat. Its a super small shop, but it is much better than JP Licks. I think Lizzy's and Toscanini's should duel it out!
(5)
Kevin H.
Their pricing is better than competitors in the area. That's a huge win in my book. The quality of the ice cream is far superior to mass-produced junk in supermarkets as well. I don't know if their ice cream is truly "homemade" but it surely tastes the part.
(5)
Rachel W.
YUM!!!! Why do I love homemade ice cream so much? This is why. It tastes better. Also, I have a nut allergy, and when we came here, the kind woman who served us was more than happy to wash the spoon thoroughly to make sure there were no nut residues :) *happy* We then had some chocolatey deliciousness that I can't even describe. No wonder the line is always out the door! 1 star left off only because of the price, why is homemade ice cream so expensive! Ah well... at least they really try to fit all the ice cream they can into that small container.
(4)
Harry H.
Nice enough dudes served up out $11+ of ice cream: the way-outta season peppermint stick (which they were NOT out of, like ginger), Columbian chocolate with coffee, and grape nut - a milky malty mixture that was tasty but not phenomenal. Could see this being a kiddies delight just off the strip and right next to Cambridge 1.

Lizzy's, I love you. So much. Without you at a walking distance, I don't know what I would do. Probably be skinnier. I love the nice workers, I love the interesting flavors, and I love that your ice cream is creamy and flavorful... it reminds me of CA and that makes me even happier. I love you so much that I'm willing to walk in 30 degree weather to get my kiddie cone.... and then upgrade to a single scoop just so I can try 2 flavors. I love that I can get my "minicone fix" .. especially since your minicones are pretty large. I love your blackberry, Charles River Crunch, and Chocolate Orgy flavors. Oh Lizzy's, thank you for being here.. b/c honestly... i don't know WHAT I would. other places in Boston just don't do it for me.

Ice cream is just good. There are lots of places to get good homemade ice cream. But the other day I stopped in with my daughter and had a kiddie scoop of Charles River Crunch. Dark chocolate ice cream with almonds and toffee. It was so good I felt that I must give them an electronic pat on the back. Well done Lizzy's.

Charles River Crunch - STRONGLY RECOMMENDED Fellow Yelpers are all raving about their Charles River Crunch, but what EXACTLY is it? Glided into Lizzy's, "Good evening, my good sir, would you be kind enough to indulge me with your knowledge on the composition of your magical Charles River Crunch?" "Well yes, my fine lady, dark chocolate, toffee, and walnut it is. Would you fancy some?" Heck yeah! Ok the conversation didn't exactly go like that. But his description for sure lured me into getting a kiddie cone ($1.85 which, btw, is a great deal if you want to try different flavors). Great decision indeed. Score, le dark chocolate was surprisingly, yet pleasantly, not bitter. Crunchy toffee and non-soggy walnut bits were folded into the ice cream. This defines Lizzy's. Chocolate Orgy - MEH-ER As the name indicates, Chocolate Orgy is a party scope of rich chocolate flavors. Hints of dark chocolate, hints of milk chocolate. Yet, when I think of Lizzy's, this probably won't pop up in my head first. Coffee Crunch - STRONGLY RECOMMENDED So we got this, along with Chocolate Orgy, in a scoop. The excitement coffee ice cream fuels my brain always overrides my knowledge of my fiance's dislike for coffee ice cream. But guess what, he devoured all of it...It wasn't a lovey dovey moment. Well, the good news is that the Coffee Crunch was THAT good. Crunchy from the Heath toffee bits, and the coffee ice cream is much richer than JP Lick's and less sweeter than Coldstone's. Best coffee ice cream indeed.

Natalie T.
This was really great sorbet and Ice cream! The service was sweet too only downfalls: a small cup is over $4 One of the flavors was too sweet I would go back for the columbian coffee ice cream and the raspberry sorbet in a heartbeat

Wow- I had peppermint and cake batter flavors. Absolutely delicious. And, the price was pretty good. No tables but we are ours in Harvard Yard across the street.

Before going to Lizzy's for the first time, I thought that it may be a hidden gem that has just been overlooked by JP Licks. Turns out that JP Licks is still the spot to go to. While the ice cream is not bad, there is something about the texture of the ice cream that is unable to match that of JP Licks. If you are in the area, recommend checking out both, but if you're in town just for the day, you should stick to JP Licks.

Ice cream, ice cream, how I love thee... Now that I've discovered Lizzy's in HSquare, HSquare just gained about 10 brownie points. The ice cream is creamy, milky-delicious; there are loads of flavors; and get this, they have mini-cone options! So for those of you (like me) who don't like having to choose 1 (or 2) flavors, you can get mini-cones for $1.50. Admittedly, I've never gone the mini-cone way, preferring to get 2 giant scoops instead :) Coffee is tasty, but the oreo and mint oreo are delicious^2. It's a tiny shop with only 3 stools but I usually go at random times in the late afternoon so I've never had to wait in line. PLUS, they're open until 11 PM - read the article on the wall that details the owner's love of ice cream late at night, man after my own heart.
(4)
Vivian H.
I really like their mini-cones! For just like $1.50 or something you get a cute little cone with just the right amount of ice cream.. some of the other cones I saw them serve is probably like half a pint, which is really much more ice cream than anyone should be eating.. but I'm sure perfectly delicious. I tried their colombian fudge avalanche (per their description: colombian for coffee, fudge for fudge, avalanche for walnuts), very good and not too sweet! Boyfriend enjoyed the oreo, which is again much milder than the usual oreo (which may be good or not depending on your taste). I think I prefer something sweeter but I do love the mini size (and price) and supporting the mom-and-pop stores!
(4)
Melissa M.
3.45 for a kiddie cup of pistachio ice cream. THREE. FORTY. FIVE. I can get a pint of Ben and Jerry's at the grocery store for that! Oh, and it was freezer burned. Never again.
(2)
Sarah G.
As Matt J. put it, "wow, if there is an el nino of avalanches, this is not it." My Columbian Fudge Avalanche ice cream, which was suggested on the wall as one of their best flavors, was basically an avalanche of empty calories with hardly a hint of a chocolate-like fudge at all. Don't call something an avalanche of fudge if there is no fudge in it!!! And if it doesn't taste like Columbian Coffee then don't base its name off of coffee either! Man, I hate false advertising. Especially when it comes to ice cream. Don't mess with ice cream cravings, Lizzy. Plus, we didn't think there would be any way we could spend more that $6 since this place is cash only, but our two single scoops of ice cream on a plain sugar cone were almost $10!!! So what is that $10 going toward? Obviously not to fudge or coffee flavoring, but maybe with all of that advertisement for the Avalanche flavor being so intense, they use all of that profit for avalanche insurance! And if that is true, this place sure is wasting a lot of money....All I wanted was a flood of fudge yumminess across my tastebuds, but instead all I got was cold boring ice cream. Boo.

Beyond all of the incredible ice cream flavors (raspberry chocolate chip in particular)- I am a huge sorbet fan and this is the BEST sorbet I've had in both Cambridge and Boston. The raspberry sorbet is incredible... and really doesn't allow me to think about ordering another flavor. But to revert back to the ice cream- everyone I've brought has been beyond satisfied with their flavor of choice. I recommend mixing and matching different flavors in order to pick your favorite! Lizzy's is my dessert of choice after eating in Harvard Square (even when it's cold out, it's worth it!)

Got the coffee ice cream. The server had to have scooped at least 10 scoops of the ice cream. Satisfied.
(4)
K M.
They had a decent variety of ice creams to choose from but nothing out of the ordinary. I tried the Charles River Crunch which ended up being too sweet for me because of the toffee crunch. Surprising that it was chilly that day in March but the ice cream was melting all over the place. Pricewise? It was almost $4 for a kiddie scoop in a cake cone w/out any toppings. Would have rather settled for Baskin Robbins in Chicago - that's not saying much.

So I stopped in to try some delicious homemade icecream. While I liked it, I'm still up in the air. Here's why: Lets start with (The Positives): I like the large selection of awesome sounding flavors ( I'm already trying to decide which ones to try next) Like the ultra large scoops Looove that Charles River Crunch = heaven in my mouth (Now to the Negs): Don't love the prices...just a smidge higher than I would have liked Icecream was good, but I'm not completely sold on it just yet, maybe it was the slight grittiness? Good news is I'm giving them another chance one of these days...those flavors are just sounding too good to pass up.

Please tell that cow of yours to stop enticing me to come in to lizzys with his sex appeal PUUUHLEASE! The way he he lays there with his tail in the air and licking those two scoops..COME ON!!!!! GEEEZ! I absolutely loved my ice cream I got at Lizzys! Delicious!!! So smooth and creamy. I got just the plain chocolate the last time I went in, but it hit the spot..get it..spot..cow..ya know, it 's a joke! Anyways, back to Lizzy's. Luckily, the day I went in it was around 9:00 PM after a movie and not too busy. Staff behind the counter was very friendly and very fast serving the patrons! I asked about the flavors and they were super cool about answering! It's a really cute little place with only 3 bar stools..so don't plan on hanging around inside. The prices are pretty steep. I paid over 4.00 for two scoops..YIKES..I never even finished it though..it's a very big 2 scoops. I'd go with the one! I think it's enough! Make sure to wink at that enticing cow on the way back out..

love love love. I've been searching for a great place to get ice cream in the city and I finally found it with Lizzy's. Lots of flavors of homemade ice cream, frozen yogurt and even kosher and vegan options. Their black raspberry and pumpkin pie are to die for and the portions are pretty large. I always get a small. The staff is always super friendly and I never feel bad when I want a hand packed pint of some flavor they don't have in their freezer. Although I must say they always have a wide array of flavors already packed in pints and quarts. So not only is the staff friendly, the prices reasonable and the ice cream DELICIOUS Lizzy's is open LATE like 10 pm on a Tuesday in the middle of January Late...AWESOME.

Tiny in size, big in quality ice cream! I was feeling good about finding another yummy flavor after trying the delicious Chocolate Orgy and Charles River Crunch at the Waltham branch...lo and behold, I did! The ginger was refreshing and had that lovely zest and spice along with loads of ginger bits.

Who was the genius that thought up the micro cone (approx. $1.50) Just the right amount of ice cream for a delicious taste. The mint oreo is ... well I could go on but EVERYONE has their own favorite so I won't try to convince you. You might miss this place next to Starbuck's - and no real place to sit BUT otherwise - to quote Mary Poppins - simply perfect in every way.

Bailey M.
I've come here several times with my boyfriend, and this place is always full of people, even in the dead of winter. I bought my boyfriend an ice cream cake. Ordered it on a Tuesday, picked it up on a Saturday. I told them to write "I love you" on top. When they asked me how to decorate it, I just said that "Its for a boy, so don't make it all feminine and flowery looking." With that very vague guidance, they were able to pull of a wonderful looking and tasting vanilla cake.
(4)
Melissa F.
LOVE. I recommend the Mocha Chocolate Lace. It has a coffee ice cream base with crunchy strands of chocolate-covered deliciousness. The Charles River Crunch (toffee bits in chocolate ice cream) and Butter Crunch (toffee bits in a rich, almost-butterscotch-flavored ice cream) are also standouts. Service is friendly and quick.

Greeted by a quirky cow sprawled out over the awning, I entered Lizzy's unaware of the dairy masterpeices that awaited inside. I sampled a few delicious flavors... but ultimately settled on the Pumpkin Pie frozen yogurt. Yes, not just any pumpkin ice cream... this was pumpkin PIE... as if they had actually baked fresh pumpkin pies, crumbled them up into perfectly bite sized pieces, and mixed them into the already palatably spicy pumpkin frozen yogurt. I want it every day.

Like everyone else on here, I thought the mini cone was a great idea. I love eating but I don't enjoy feeling like shit afterwards. This bite-sized cone was a great compromise. Unfortunately the ice cream wasn't all that impressive. It was fine, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here.

This little tiny shop was overflowing with people. The two scoop cup was humongous. I got oreo and coconut, both were delicious. The oreo ice cream had tons of cookies. The coconut ice cream had tasty coconut chunks.

So many wonderful flavors....such big servings! Worth stopping by. The Peanut Butter Cup was wonderful. The walk back to the hotel makes the guilt a little bit less.

Loved my raspberry breeze. Don't know what was in it, but it was super refreshing after wandering around Boston on foot on a warm day. Husband got a scoop of the ice cream -- cookie dough vanilla. They have some pretty big servings for a place that makes their own ice cream. I'm not much of a fan of cookie dough though, so my one bite tasted like it had freezer burn on it, which i didn't like. I DID like how the cookie dough also had chocolate chips though... so it's a plus. Overall neat place to stumble onto in the Harvard Square area.
(4)
Lisa M. K.
The ice cream is fine - nothing special. No original knock-your-socks-off flavors. It could be better and it could be much worse. But they get a major thumbs down from me for their audacious prices, especially the kids' size. Ridiculous! JP Licks around the corner is SO much better (or if you head to Christina's in Inman Square you can get the best ice cream in the city). This place, as my late aunt would say, is for the birds.
(2)
Bram E.
Their mini $1.25 cones are fabulous. My wife and I each get one per day. I am not kidding. And, as everyone knows, it's so much better to not fit into your old pair of jeans because of four weeks of daily mini-cone-eating than because of a mere handful of regular $4.00 JP Licks monster scoops. (This is, at least, what I've been trying to tell myself. Plus I never really liked those jeans anyway.) BTW, my favorite is the Grapenut, hers is the Charles River Crunch.
(5)
Sharon H.
my FAVORITE ice cream in the area. Go here if you're like me and think JP Licks is too rich and creamy. I thought Lizzy's ice cream was perfect. They have great size options and great flavors. win-win
(4)
Victoria A.
Lizzy's probably gets by on location. The ice cream just isn't very special. Sure, they have lots of flavors with lots of sugary things thrown in, but it doesn't taste very good. I mean, it's not BAD but if I'm going to delay my dream of having a 22 inch waist by eating something, it should be worth the sacrifice. They put a little too much emphasis on the "ice" and not enough on the "cream" as the ice cream usually tastes a little freezer burned. Sometimes you can feel little ice crystals crunch between your teeth. I thought this might've been a one-time problem with the freezer, but it's been that way every time I've gone back. The flavors also aren't strong enough. More accurate menu descriptions might be: "coffee-ish", "Chocolate-ish", "We put some walnuts and fudge near this once" They tend to go the "huge portions, huge prices" route, so it might be a good idea to size down your usual order if you go. The servers are fairly friendly, but the space is small. You'll probably have to take your ice cream to go.
(2)
Rachael N.
YUM YUM YUM! My favorite ice cream in cambridge. I always get coffee oreo. It's expensive, yes, but the portions rock and it's way better than cheap stuff. I reccommend it over JP Licks!

I'll preface this by saying that what I really wanted to be eating was JP Lick's. Unfortunately it is Harvard opening weekend, so being located across from Harvard Yard, it had a line out the door that I wasn't waiting in. Lizzy's is on the way home, so I thought I'd try it. 1 star for friendly staffer, 1 star for having the proper type of jimmies (don't ask if you don't know). Unfortunately the ice cream (which I'm pretty sure, but not positive, was more expensive than JP Licks) was oh so disappointing. I hope it was low in fat because it was icy and had no flavor. I like to get half coffee, half chocolate. Neither had much flavor at all to speak of. So disappointing that I paid nearly $5 for that (and that's a small). Next time I'm waiting in line.

I never complain about homemade ice cream.

The prices are inflated, and the service leaves a lot to be expected. I got to the counter, and the employee looked at me. I started my order and he looked away and I stopped talking. He didn't look back at me for about a minute when I continued my order. He seemed like he wasn't paying attention to what I was saying at all and the other employee there seemed very unenthusiastic. Aside from that, I think this is some of the best frozen yogurt in the city. I got the coffee oreo and it tasted very similar to ice cream (but hey, who knows? Perhaps the drugged out person behind the counter gave me ice cream instead of frozen yogurt). Definitely worth checking out for the ice cream, but the prices and service suck.

Pretty good ice cream, not my favorite though. I got mint oreo, which was actually amazing. I loved the combination of mint ice cream with the chocolate oreo cookies. However the oreos were soft and mushy, not crunchy at all. I don't know whether or not that was intentional or just a byproduct of having sat in the freezer for a little while. The mint flavor was very clean and tasty, however I felt that the ice cream itself was a bit icy for my taste. I love thick and creamy ice cream, which I felt that this wasn't. Maybe it was just the flavor I got? I would definitely come back though.

When I first tried Lizzy's in Harvard Square, I didn't realize it was the same (great) place I had been to in Waltham. Then it dawned on me when I saw Mocha Lace -- I remembered that flavor. Lizzy's is my "go-to" ice cream place in Harvard Square. They have very few seats, so it's basically take-out. They also have some "adult" (alcohol) flavors that you can ask about. Portions are prices are good, especially for Harvard Square. Overall, if you're in Harvard Square looking for ice cream, it's a tossup between Lizzy's and JP Licks. I'd probably pick Lizzy's first, because it's less of a chain (only 2 locations) and they have more interesting flavors.

Rob C.
i hadn't even known that Lizzy's had a branch in Harvard Square. You can never have enough good ice cream places. It's true that there's almost nowhere to stand and eat your ice cream, but you can say that about lots of these places. The staff was a little bit accident-prone on the night i was there, but one of them was wearing an ace bandage on her ice cream scooping wrist so i took that to be a workplace injury which might hamper a career in, say, professional tennis, and tipped well. Besides, the mishap didn't involve mine. At any rate, i had mint something or other. It wasn't an awesomely lurid green, but it was at least slightly green. As long as it's somewhat artificially colored, I'm good. And though their two scoops are pretty spendy, they piled on at least three, which was fine, 'cause this was dinner. And other than that, it's ice cream, and ice cream is good. It probably doesn't have as many weird and creative flavors as some others, but Lizzy's is a pretty good choice for obtaining some delicious, exercise-offsetting dairy goodness.

Somehow my friend got me in an ice cream shop mid winter, which isnt easy to do, but I'm glad she did! Admitadly, I didn't eat more then a few tastes since I don't do ice cream in winter much, but for starters, the first time we went in, the guy behind the counter was so friendly and chatty and told us funny stories about working there, we were all laughing! Chocolate orgy ice cream i rightfully named. i also had my first tate of adult ice cream here, that is, ice cream with liquor in it, and it seemed to have a good amount of liquor in it too. fun times! I wish it was a bit more spacious with tables as it gets crowded in the summer.

Vicki L.
The ice cream here is good, and the selection of flavors is pretty interesting. My personal favorites are Chocolate Orgy and Ginger (with Hot Fudge). The servings are large - I swear the 1 scoop is more like 3 scoops. But 4 stars because the prices are pretty ridiculous.

Te R.
i thought the first time i went i didn't order the right thing. the second time confirmed that i don't like this place. the ice cream was very very very sweet. and the topping i asked for was marshmallow, when it was large glob of melted marshmallow. it was kinda disgusting looking. and it is not cheap... i don't know why it shows up as $ on yelp.

The butter crunch ice cream here is awesome. My boyfriend is totally obsessed with it, and after having it the other day, I can certainly see why. Lizzy's only has a lowfat version of the 'sweet cream' flavor, which was a bit of a disappointment, but their lowfat version is actually pretty good. If I didn't have a side by side comparison of the lowfat versus the regular version at Herrell's, this might actually be enough for me and my dessert craving. Definitely a staple for ice cream in the area, but it's hard for me to decide whether I like Lizzy's or Herrell's better. It will probably depend on the flavor i am craving.
(4)
Adine S.
The BEST ice-cream on Boston. Not too heavy, not too sweet, excellent creative flavors. Mocha lace is my favorite - nothing like it anywhere else. Bittersweet coffee ice-cream with chocolate covered bits of sugar lace. I was a Herrell's fan, but even if they still existed I have a hard time deciding between them and Lizzy's. Try them on Moody street in Waltham too!
(5)
Kat C.
Lizzy, how I was quick to judge. You've totally redeemed yourself with your ridiculously large kids scoop, and decently tasting "special" flavors. I'm still a sucker for vanilla, but I admit the cinnamon was quite delicious. I can't really say either for JP Licks, so I rescind my previous threat to jump ship for greener pastures. Your employees still look like they'd rather hang themselves than to serve me ice cream, but there was an Asian guy in glasses who was surprisingly gracious and perky. So thank you Asian guy, for totally restoring my faith in the dairy industry. Slow. Clapping.

I had this mocha choke-a-lotta yaya type ice cream flavor. It was good, a little sweeter than I'd prefer for ice cream, but the chocolate and mocha flavor was so good. So good. I made a mistake though, one scoop on a chocolate dipped waffle cone... SUGAR OVERLOAD! AHHHHHHHH. (Not to be confused with a New England pirate's "Ahhhh".) Some things to keep in mind: This is a sweeter ice cream. The scoops are huge. Great mouthfeel, definitely not "nonfat" or "light." Worth getting a few napkins and taking a walk with your cone on a warm night. Mmmm.

Dear Mr. Jagger, I am just writing this letter to let you know that, after all these years, I FINALLY understand what you were getting at. It all makes perfect sense now. I had this epiphany at Lizzie's Ice Cream in Harvard Square. You see, I wanted to love Lizzy's so much. I wanted to shout from the mountain tops how exquisite their homemade treats were. I wanted to support my local ice cream shop in their endeavor to create the most delectable flavors imaginable. I wanted to write a glowing five-star review and rave incessantly about how I could eat Lizzy's all day long and still go back for more. But apparently, what I wanted and what I was going to get were two totally different things. The service was nice enough. The kids behind the counter were pleasant and speedy. The selection had plenty of variety. But the consistency of my frozen yogurt was a bit icy, the mint was tinged with artificiality and it set me back almost 7 bucks for a two-scoop waffle cone. But, it was tasty. And cold. And a refreshing treat on a hot summer day. So, maybe I didn't get what I wanted, but I tried, and I found, I got what needed. Just thought you'd like to know. Leighann P.S. I still can't get no satisfaction, though.

Had 20 minutes to kill before seeing "Bruno" across the street at the movie theater with my ex on a beautiful afternoon and decided that we could each get an ice cream there. The service was fast, the "small" cones not so small (could have easily been considered large at most other ice cream shops I've been to) but unfortunately it almost set me back $12 for 2 small cones. They were tasty, very tasty and very nice but too expensive. With BerryLine not too far from there and at a fraction of the price the choice is made easily.

Bethany B.
A 60 degree day in December wandering around Harvard Square called for ice cream! Enter Lizzy's luscious Vanilla Bean and Decadent Chocolate. 2 huge cones devoured and savored under the awning -- gone in 60 seconds!
(4)
Christina K.
Yeah, mint oreo cookie and white pistachio were really good. I do not normally like pistachio, but yeahhhh baby! That was great! And try the Mad Dog Mango - it's SPICY ice cream!! WTF?! I promise you. And too spicy to get a scoop. They've got so many flavors so it's a cool place to go, but there is no seating so take it to go.
(4)
Mark S.
COMPLETE RIP-OFF. The ice cream is okay, but certainly nothing particularly special. The prices, however, are particularly special. More than $6.50 for two scoops in a waffle cone- insane. Christina's in Inman Square (whose ice cream is significantly tastier) will provide a hand-packed PINT of ice cream for less than $5.00. This place is totally and astonishingly overpriced. I have paid once but never again. If you have any sense at all, you will not go here.
(1)
Karen B.
I have an ice cream problem, so to avoide gaining 100 pounds I go to lizzys every so often for their $1.50 mini cones. The perfect little treat! My favorite flavor is the coffee oreo yogurt. Yummy, might have to get one today!

Yuck!! Anyone that thinks this is ice cream has never had any! Being pregnant and having so many cravings, my husband and I have learned we must act fast when one comes on.... so we happen to be on a walk through Harvard Sq and walked by Lizzy's, went in and notices blackberry ice cream, YUM! Purchased the half gallon to have some later at home.....took a few spoonfuls and eeewwwww!!!!!! It's just cream! No flavor whatsoever!!! It's just cream with food coloring.....and they charge you like it's Haagen-Dazs .... that's what I get for going to a little guy or gal in this case for ice cream! I'll stick to Baskin Robbins if I'm ever confronted with a craving for ice cream in Harvard Sq. again!!!!
(1)
Alison F.
Charles River Crunch. Amazing flavor. This place is the size of an elevator shaft. The ice cream is second-to-none. No place to sit. The people who work there would rather be someplace else. But wow, great flavors. They specialize in super-mini (and inexpensive) cones for people who really want "just a nibble." Not me, by the way...
(5)
Ian H.
I went in here specifically because they offer a tiny cone for $1.50, which is exactly the right amount of money for the right amount of ice cream. Everywhere else you go in the U.S.A., the whole more=better equation is in effect, and even the smallest portion sizes available seem to be based on the idea that you want to have ice cream as A MEAL. The small sizes at most places are basically still a small MEAL of ice cream. Lizzy's understands that some customers don't want to be Full of Ice Cream. I, for example, just want to experience the taste of ice cream in my mouth for about 15-20 minutes, and then be done. Thankyou, Lizzy's for understanding me.
(5)
Janice T.
Mmm, mmm, sweet cream ice cream and strawberries to go! One of my favorite ice cream combinations ever and Lizzie's sure delivers. Very interesting ice cream flavors on the menu. However nowhere to sit and enjoy. So definitely a treat to take to go.

Penelope T.
This place's ice cream pales in comparison to that which you can get at JP licks and Christina's ice cream shop. Cheap tasting ingredients.

banana and cinnamon ice cream??? yes please. i really enjoyed the suble flavors and texture, it really tastes homemade!

As a vegan I was really excited about their Tofutti, but come on - the price is ridiculous! The staff seemed super-uninterested and slow, and we actually felt kind of sick after eating their ice-cream (but that may have been because we went there almost starving - maybe ice-cream isn't the right thing to fill your empty stomach with). I might go back sometime if I really feel a craving for ice-cream simply because it's so difficult to find vegan ice-cream (other than sorbet) elsewhere, but I have to say that they didn't really impress me.

Yes, there is bad non-chain ice cream in America's mecca of ice cream and here it is. Don't be fooled by its adorable cow statue seductively posing with an ice cream in hand - this stuff is airy, low on flavor, high on sweet, and more often than not terribly fresh leading to a consistency that is rather lacking. Oreo is the best flavor is the oreo, but that doesn't say much. The ice cream itself is flavorless except for the empty taste of sweet sugar which leaves me unfulfilled. It also has that airy texture that cheapy ice cream joints do to lower their costs and use less material - except they charge premium Boston ice cream prices. With both Herrell's and JP Licks within a five minute walk you have absolutely no reason to go here.
(2)
Charoline D.
I actually went to Lizzy's with no other than my favorite Lizzy. The ice cream flavors seemed pretty generic, save for Ginger (which I love), but at this point in the day 5pm, and having just gotten out of bed at 2pm and had lunch, ice cream wasn't really on my mind so much as a cold beverage was. It was around 90 degrees probably so a frozen drink was definitely on my to-do list. They have all sorts of options for frappes, sundaes, shakes, and smoothies and we each got a Raspberry freeze which I think was mostly comprised of Raspberry Sorbet, maybe a little soda water, and some ice. Very refreshing on such a hot day. We also saw someone making a brownie sundae which looked ab fab, I shall return.

I was wandering around Harvard Square looking for a place to grab dinner while I was in Boston on business. I noticed a small line forming outside of Lizzy's Ice Cream and figured that it must be some great ice cream. After thinking about it for 30 seconds or so, I decided that having an ice cream sundae for dinner is absolutely acceptable. I had the chocolate cookie dough ice cream and it was good--nothing out of the ordinary, but good. The flavor choices weren't particularly unique. On the plus side, they are pretty generous with the size of their scoops. I didn't see any other ice cream places in the area, so if you're in the neighborhood and craving ice cream, check this place out. If there's a long line, it's not really worth the wait. You'd be better served to stop by a market and pick up a pint of Ben & Jerry's for about the same price as single scoop here.
(3)
Lindsay L.
Get the mocha almond ice cream. That's all you need to know. In Harvard Square, this is my favorite place for ice cream.
(4)
Ligaya T.
The never ending dilemma: fruity, nutty, minty, cookie or bitter. The list of flavors looked promising. Ah, yes Oreo. Nope, out. Mocha Almond, niet. Boo. Well, Maple Walnut then, please. Chock full o'nuts, nice. Artificial maple flavor, notsomuch. Ditto on the friend's Mint Oreo. Why do ice cream parlors so often overlook the lack of ambiance? If it's hot outside, it would be nice if they provided a place of cool relaxation. Not going to find that at Lizzy's. Three stools and a boring interior. Though I'm not a vegan, they caught my attention with the tofutti thing. All the products we can make soy into is just amazing, isn't it? Though I'm not sure if all the processing and chemicals negate all the healthful effects... Anyhow, I'll get my jimmies elsewhere.

Peanut butter cup! Mint oreo cookie! Peanut butter cup! Mint oreo cookie! Try the Mango ice cream too, IF YOU DARE. It starts off sweet, and then the spiciness hits you and WOW! You need some more of the Peanut butter Cup! Mint oreo cookie! Peanut butter cup! Mint oreo cookie!

Somsa T, I work at Lizzy's and am in fact a fluent English speaker. A few of my employees are indeed spanish-speaking but actually speak PERFECT english. Maybe the reason they didn't speak to you had to do more with your privileged attitude. That aside, we make amazing icecream. give us eye contact and a little tip and we'll be as friendly and fluent as possible. LOVE, Lizzie

I think its really good icecream but F*CK its expensive! damn. i would have given it 4 stars otherwise.

OMG, Lizzy's!! I found you too late!! We came here on a whim with a friend, after dinner at Borders Cafe, which is just across Church St. I'm usually not a big fan of ice cream on a cold night, but Lizzy's left me wanting more!! I had the coffee oreo flavor on a mini cone. OMG, it was so good!! I went back the next day to get the same thing, but on a much much bigger cone!! :) I don't' care about other flavors. I'll always be back for my Coffee Oreo... And summer is coming!! :D YUM!!!
(5)
Wendy B.
The ice cream was great, but it seems to be staffed by a crew of druggie 14 year olds. There were four girls "working" here. Only one was helping anyone. The other refused to make eye contact with other people in line and kept dashing to the back. There is no way that they weren't doing drugs back there.

I like ice cream and I like to think of myself as a chocolate connoisseur. I have rarely ever been as happy eating ice cream as I am when I'm eating "chocolate orgy" ice cream. Seriously, if you love chocolate ice cream, you won't be disappointed. Sometimes the wait for service can be a bit long (especially if a movie just finished across the street) but it's worth it! You can also take the ice cream into the AMC theater across the street so if you want it before as opposed to after your movie, go for it!

Just. . .no. I have tasted the pumpkin ice cream from the Waltham branch - and I am convinced that there is a HUGE difference between the Waltham Lizzy's and the Harvard Square branch. My experiences at Lizzy's in Harvard have been pretty abysmal. We wanted to show our friend from Atlanta what good New England ice cream is all about. Instead, we had to stand in line for twenty minutes, in a crowded, disorganized space (no place to sit, no room to talk in line). When we finally got our scoops, they were full of ice crystals and rock hard. At most "gourmet" ice cream shops, the folks behind the counter will kindly steer you toward another flavor of ice cream if the one you've picked is starting to get a bit freezer burned. Clearly, this branch just isn't living up to the Lizzy's name. Sorry, Waltham!
(1)
Jenn W.
Very strange...each time I've gone back for Chocolate Orgy over the past month, the ice cream has a weird (gritty+ammonia) aftertaste and the store has an ammonia smell. What is going on??
(4)
Nathan R.
Pretty good Ice Cream. I got the chocolate orgy...not bad. I wouldn't necessarily say "orgy worthy" but more like a "chocolate social gathering worthy". The single scoop size was plenty.
(4)
Chloe C.
I wandered around Cambridge the other day looking for a new place to get some ice cream. I had already been to JP Licks, Ben & Jerrys, etc... and I wanted to try something new. I passed by Lizzy's and decided to give it a try. The store itself was kind of small and crowded, and not the cleanest of places. The staff did not seem like they wanted to be there, and they kept talking to each other instead of taking my order. The ice-cream itself was pretty good - I had chocolate cookie dough and my friend had chocolate orgy. Not the best, but not the worst. Overall, a decent experience.
(3)
Doreen X.
All you have to know about this place is their ice cream sampler. It's five scoops topped with whipped cream and whatever else you want to indulge in for $6. I like coming here with a friend and challenging ourselves to finishing the entire sundae. Usually, the sampler defeats us.
(3)
J. L.
The ice cream at Lizzy's is homemade, good but very sweet. The young lady working there was nothing but friendly though. There are a decent amount of flavors to choose from. Good location.
(4)
Ariel W.
Pretty blah. I remember working around the corner from this place and being really excited when it opened because I used to work at an ice cream store for three years in hig school, so ice cream means a lot in my world. Ive tired my three favorite flavors there: vanilla, cookie dough, and cookies and cream... and they were all just..bleh. Not so wonderful, and surely not worth your money. Oh, and the service sucked. No smiles, and no eye contcact. Stick to Ben and Jerry's in the Garage or that place that begins with an "H" thats in between John harvards and that sneaker store. Or hell, buy a pint at CVS.
(2)
Kenneth B.
The ice cream is pretty good. But, within a couple minutes walk, you have better cream product to be found at Herrell's and Toscanini's. Of the three places, Lizzy's has the least space..it's footprint is quite tiny. There are 2 or 3 high-chairs and that is it. Not that Toscanini's is much bigger, but Herrell's does have a bit more space. The should go back and compare the prices of the 3, but my impression is they're all in the same general ballpark..in which case I again say the other two places are better. But this is the beauty of the Boston area..we all are allowed the extravagance of demanding quite high quality of the ice cream we eat! If I were rating this in another town, I'd probably give it more stars, but things are relative.
(3)
H T.
Between Toscanini's and Lizzy's in Harvard Sq, I would definitely go to Tosci's. I ordered chocolate orgy and banana ice cream (because I love banana ice cream), but it was so disappointing! The guy scooping didn't pay attention and was talking to the girl there so he gave me the plain chocolate ice cream instead. There was a line there so I didn't want to complain that it was the wrong flavor (even though I should). As for the banana ice cream, it was really lacking in flavor. With bananas, it is an intense flavor that you can taste (like Ben&Jerry's Chunky Monkey), but this one the banana flavor is very subtle, so it tasted very sweet and sugary, rather than banana-y. The ice cream is dense and the creaminess is alright. It doesn't seem that much cheaper than other places. Definitely no place to sit or stand to eat your ice cream. Maybe I'll go back to try another flavor one day.
(3)
Lynne S.
I have to preface this by saying that I love ice cream - all kinds. Therefore, it's almost impossible that I would write a bad ice cream review! I decided to try Lizzy's last night after walking by this place several times. The choices all sounded great. They had some unique flavors, and I decided to try the charles river crunch. The one scoop was a very decent size. The chocolate ice cream was very rich and delicious, but the toffee pieces were sparse. I was digging for more. The prices were very high. For $4 for a one scoop, I could have bought an entire half gallon at the grocery store! Because there were so many great flavors, I'll definitely give Lizzy's another shot. But I won't give up my quest for the perfect ice cream just yet!
(3)
Natasha A.
Lizzy's has the best ice-cream and was a must-have back in Waltham. So glad they opened up in Harvard square now. My favs are anything with coffee, or espresso chips.
(4)
Caitlyn L.
First off, one scoop is not one scoop, it's at least two. Second, the Oreo ice cream is GOOD. Not your typical mix of ice cream and Oreos pulverized beyond recognition, this had big chunks of cookie throughout a vanilla ice cream that would have stood up on its own. They also take cards for when I have a random ice cream craving but no cash. Bonus points.
(4)
Robert S.
You know, maybe somewhere with fewer truly amazing ice cream options, Lizzy's would be a real standout. Unfortunately (yeah, right), we are inundated with truly special places, like Christina's and JP Licks, so Lizzy's is definitely on the JV team. The essential problem is that the base doesn't have much flavor. Actually, nothing does. I don't get any kind of long, funky, creamy flavor finish on any of the 4 or so flavors I've tried. The ice cream is nice, pleasant, neutral, but not bursting on the palate. Nothing else is truly special about the place, not the toppings or sauces, but neither is anything truly bad. I would still make the trek to the Ben & Jerry's a few streets down in the garage.
(3)
Maryn H.
This place is BOMB! Delicious ice cream with great service. It's always packed, and you get A LOT of ice cream! My favorite is Oreo, but try their other unique flavors. Don't miss out on their banana splits, sundaes, or any other speciality. Did I mention the people working there rock? They are effecient, friendly, and knowledgeable. You must try it!
(4)
Jenny N.
The newest outpost of the original famous Lizzy's Ice Cream Parlor is located in Harvard Square now, so you no longer have to make the trek out to Waltham. It appears to be takeout only since there are no tables for sitting. I had the chocolate cookie dough and it was yummers, but I'm not convinced that this place is better than J.P. Licks (although the prices at Lizzy's seem cheaper to me). I have no doubt I'll be back to try this place again though (maybe one of the fruit flavors next!) since I love the Harvard Sq. area :)
(3)
Britt C.
Lizzy's always has a line winding out the door and onto the sidewalk, but if you're willing to wait a couple of minutes you will be handsomely rewarded. Their ice cream is incredible, though if you're feeling guilty about over-indulging, go for their mocha yogurt...it's better than the full-on ice cream at most of the other places in the square.
(4)
Evie U.
Don't even mess!!! Lizzy's is the best ice cream in the Boston area, hands down. After 4 years of ritualistic Lizzy's eating in Waltham, I was overjoyed to see that they opened a new shop in Harvard Square. Herrel's, Toscanini's, JP Licks, Christina's, and Emack and Bolios - NONE of those places have anything on Lizzy's!!! Take my advice and hurry your butt over there for a cup or cone, you won't regret it!

my sister and i came here before seeing eastern promises last weekend. it was a hot night and ice cream was almost a requirement. the lines was out the door but they moved quickly. but when we got in to the front i was so flustered by all the people crowding and yelling i couldn't decide, and the longer i took, the more flustered i got - performance anxiety? the staff was very good natured and nice enough to let me try the blackberry and we both ordered a cup. in the meantime, i knocked over a set of cups and spilled all the change in my bag. but that's not their fault... i agree with many of the other reviewers regarding the lack of seating and space. you're in line, you order, you pay and then you need to fight the line to get back out the door. the ice cream was good - nothing fantastic. i am a long time fan of tosca. and rancetore's is right across the street, so i am in no shortage of good ice cream. all that said - if it is hot and i am waiting for a movie to start, i will probably be back. if i am anything, i am lazy.

Very tiny Place but very yummy ice cream. They also sell take home version ones too. I like their Waltham branch bit better cause you have more place to sit.

Gross, watery, and overpriced. The "lace" in my Mocha Lace was a collection of unidentifiable orange rocks covered with chocolate. Possibly crystallized sugar but whatever, biting into them gave me the nasty sensation that I was crunching on fragments of my broken teeth. The peach was likewise watery, with the actual peach flavor seeming to be an afterthought. A small cone of nastiness for $4? No thanks. Go to Ben & Jerry's in the Garage if you must, or walk the 15 minutes to Christina's in Inman.

Went here the other night and had a butterscotch sundae. The sundae was pretty good, though I did get a little sick of the butterscotch flavor by the end. I had it w/ the vanilla cookie dough ice cream which was better than most other brands, except for Ben & Jerry's which I think is hands down the best, so I was pleasantly surprised. It had whipped cream but no cherry :0( My roommates were both satisfied w/ the flavors they got, though I don't remember what they were. The worst part about the place is waiting in the line. There was only one girl working and a very long line so it took forever. Glad I was in a good mood. The place is way too tiny and the line was extra scrunched together so no one had to wait outside in the cold. I would go here again to experiment w/ other flavors but waiting in the line sucks. Can't they get more than one person to work on a Friday night?
(3)
Beth M.
I was not impressed with this place at all. My coffee frappe tasted like iced milk (read, no coffee flavor, or any flavor really) and was way heavier than a real frappe should be. The service was totally personality-less, and the place was empty and silent. In sum: Bland. No fun. And pricey, to top it all off. I won't be back.
(1)
Bobby H.
This place is good. The ice cream is rich, tasty and there are a lot of choices to choose from. Definitely recommend this place for ice cream lover even in 40 degree weather !!
(5)
Bob B.
Overpriced, mediocre ice cream - on pints can see products have corn syrup, artificial flavors and preservatives. You like to think that when you pay more for a single scoop than a pint of Ben & jerry's and Haggen Daz you aren't getting such low quality. A single and kidde cone was almost 8 bucks

Two words: vegan milkshakes. Whenever I'm in cambridge I stop here, I love the Toffutti ice cream.
(4)
Charlie G.
Wow. I have been meaning to try this place for a while and finally stopped by to have a taste of the raspberry chocolate chip frozen yogurt. It was amazing. Tasted just like a Godiva raspberry chocolate bar. I think I may have a new Harvard Sq. favorite (Herrell's and Toscanini's beware!)

I've never been to this location but our office has Lizzy's come in for Ice Cream parties at least once a quarter. I love Lizzy's!!! The ice cream is delicious!! And the way they do our office parties is insane. They bring in 5 flavors of ice cream, our picks, and ALL the goodies that would go with it - hot fudge, marshmallow, whip cream, m&ms, reeses pieces, gummy bears... you name it it's there! All I have to say is "Thanks Lizzy's for being so nice to us in our office! I can't imagine working without all the yummy goodies and homemade ice cream coming straight to our conference room down the hall from my cubical!"

fine, but next to jp licks it's not really a fair contest.

the raspberry chocolate-chip frozen yogurt was tart and awesome.

the chocolate ice cream was sooo sand-textured and unpleasant that neither my son nor my husband would touch it. we had to toss it in the trash... oy. with the abundance of yummy ice cream parlors, it's a shame this one even exists & detracts from the others. Just go to JP Licks in Davis Square, or Toscanini's back down past Central Square... Better yet, Christina's in Inman Square. Heck, even Emack & Bolio's will do! If you must eat ice cream in harvard square, go to herrell's - they servers are surly, and it may not be the cleanest establishment, but the ice cream is way better than lizzy's!

J Evangeline H.
Just not that good. Watery, almost like "ice milk", seemingly refrozen, and generally unexciting flavor. Given that you have many other options, go elsewhere: Herrell's is okay and also in Harvard Square; Christina's in Inman is extraordinary and well worth the walk.

This place really isn't very good. Although it's a small, really local chain (based in Waltham, I believe) it has a very "corporate" feel. Also, looking at the ice cream ingredients is really not appetizing: plenty of guar gum, gum arabic and other stabilizers. For "homemade" ice cream, I'd prefer Herrell's.
(2)
C S.
I know I will probably burn in hell for saying this, but I like Lizzy's more than Herrell's (and I was a longtime Herrell's addict). I'm a big fan of their fresh fruit sorbets and their chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. A cone at Lizzy's won't bankrupt you, either--at Herrell's you practically have to take out a loan to pay for a scoop of ice cream.

The ice cream is delicious and the service is great. the only down side is the lack of space to sit down and enjoy the treat. Fortunately, harvard sq. has tons of cute parks around it; i suggest you take your ice cream treat to the park outside of peet's coffee. It will be UTTERly relaxing and fun.

Great location, right on Church St, but small, so plan to eat your ice cream outside. Chocolate Orgy is delish, also love the tofutti alternatives. My favorite way to eat Lizzy's: bring it into the theater and enjoy with a movie. Cheaper than JP, but still great selection of unique flavors.
Aman M.
Oh I loved this place. It's a small shop at Harvard square, almost unnoticeable next to the Starbucks store. I loved the Cuban coffee flavor so much I ended up going there three times in a week!
(5)Kevin J.
Icecream: 4 Stars Service: 4 Stars The ice cream portions and quality are both great! They have some pretty unique flavors and for the pricing, it's a much better deal than JP Licks. We came here after a meal for quick dessert and weren't disappointed.
(4)Andres B.
Great ice cream! Perfect balance of taste and creaminess, and portions are on point. Thanks for the incredible homemade ice cream! Surely coming back
(5)Lisa D.
(3)Melissa K.
I came with the family for a second chance still bad. Our ice cream was all ice! We constantly were picking out chunks of ice. On a positive side they have a bunch of flavors.
(2)Inês L.
(1)Isabella C.
(4)Kattie L.
(5)Emily T.
(4)Ben K.
(5)Meme M.
(4)Denise A.
(3)Kate S.
(5)Schel H.
(4)Aisha A.
(5)Lola R.
The ice cream had a very watery taste, no very flavorful. The woman behind the counter didn't tie her long hair and was wearing a tank top while digging deep for ice cream, it was gross !!!
(1)Julian H.
(5)Audrea Rachelle G.
I had the Butter Crunch in a cone after dinner at Cambridge 1 next door. My ice cream was SO good! So happy with it.
(5)Whitney W.
Aahh! So gross inside.
(2)Rebecca G.
(5)Krissy K.
(3)Dan M.
small shop, big heart.
(5)Stacy G.
(5)Rosa S.
I am no longer a loyal fan to JP Licks after trying Lizzy's ice cream. The mini/kids size cone is the perfect amount if you're not in the mood for an entire cone.
(4)Cathy Z.
(3)Sidi L.
Great frozen yoghurt! Coffee Oreo flavor is amazing!! Chocolate peanut crisp let me down:(
(4)Andrew D.
(2)Imran G.
(5)Kevin H.
Their pricing is better than competitors in the area. That's a huge win in my book. The quality of the ice cream is far superior to mass-produced junk in supermarkets as well. I don't know if their ice cream is truly "homemade" but it surely tastes the part.
(5)Rachel W.
(4)Harry H.
(3)jun k.
(5)Michael C.
white pistachio in a waffle cone- hands down the best ice cream in the world! died and gone to heaven!
(5)Brian D.
(5)Samia O.
(5)Natalie T.
This was really great sorbet and Ice cream! The service was sweet too only downfalls: a small cup is over $4 One of the flavors was too sweet I would go back for the columbian coffee ice cream and the raspberry sorbet in a heartbeat
(4)Dana W.
Wow- I had peppermint and cake batter flavors. Absolutely delicious. And, the price was pretty good. No tables but we are ours in Harvard Yard across the street.
(5)Guillermo M.
3.5 stars. Delicious banana split!
(4)Kavya S.
(3)Priscilla T.
(4)Vivian H.
(4)Melissa M.
3.45 for a kiddie cup of pistachio ice cream. THREE. FORTY. FIVE. I can get a pint of Ben and Jerry's at the grocery store for that! Oh, and it was freezer burned. Never again.
(2)Sarah G.
As Matt J. put it, "wow, if there is an el nino of avalanches, this is not it." My Columbian Fudge Avalanche ice cream, which was suggested on the wall as one of their best flavors, was basically an avalanche of empty calories with hardly a hint of a chocolate-like fudge at all. Boo.

Happiness
(5)Rani P.
(4)Takumi Y.
Got the coffee ice cream. The server had to have scooped at least 10 scoops of the ice cream. Satisfied.
(4)K M.
(2)Christina G.
(3)Kathy S.
(4)Amanda E.
love love love.
(5)Eric F.
(4)Barbara A.
(4)Bailey M.
(4)Melissa F.
(5)Scott B.
(5)Kevin C.
(3)Roberto A.
This little tiny shop was overflowing with people. The two scoop cup was humongous. I got oreo and coconut, both were delicious. The oreo ice cream had tons of cookies. The coconut ice cream had tasty coconut chunks.
(4)Marie E.
So many wonderful flavors....such big servings! Worth stopping by. The Peanut Butter Cup was wonderful. The walk back to the hotel makes the guilt a little bit less.
(5)Caree Z.
(4)Lisa M.
(2)Bram E.
(5)Sharon H.
my FAVORITE ice cream in the area. Go here if you're like me and think JP Licks is too rich and creamy. I thought Lizzy's ice cream was perfect. They have great size options and great flavors. win-win
(4)Victoria A.
(2)Rachael N.
YUM YUM YUM! My favorite ice cream in cambridge. I always get coffee oreo. It's expensive, yes, but the portions rock and it's way better than cheap stuff. I reccommend it over JP Licks!
(5)Michelle C.
(2)Camille R.
I never complain about homemade ice cream.
(4)Joanna F.
(3)Melanie T.
(4)Roscoe R.
(4)Rob C.
i hadn't even known that Lizzy's had a branch in Harvard Square.
(3)Su R.
(4)Vicki L.
(4)Te R.
i thought the first time i went i didn't order the right thing. the second time confirmed that i don't like this place. the ice cream was very very very sweet. and the topping i asked for was marshmallow, when it was large glob of melted marshmallow. it was kinda disgusting looking. and it is not cheap... i don't know why it shows up as $ on yelp.
(2)Yvonne W.
(4)Adine S.
(5)Kat C.
Slow. Clapping.
(4)Dave M.
Mmmm.
(4)Leighann F.
(3)Jeremy K.
(3)Bethany B.
A 60 degree day in December wandering around Harvard Square called for ice cream! Enter Lizzy's luscious Vanilla Bean and Decadent Chocolate. 2 huge cones devoured and savored under the awning -- gone in 60 seconds!
(4)Christina K.
(4)Mark S.
(1)Karen B.
I have an ice cream problem, so to avoide gaining 100 pounds I go to lizzys every so often for their $1.50 mini cones. The perfect little treat! My favorite flavor is the coffee oreo yogurt. Yummy, might have to get one today!
(4)Beverly S.
I'll stick to Baskin Robbins if I'm ever confronted with a craving for ice cream in Harvard Sq. again!!!!
(1)Alison F.
(5)Ian H.
(5)Janice T.
Mmm, mmm, sweet cream ice cream and strawberries to go! One of my favorite ice cream combinations ever and Lizzie's sure delivers. Very interesting ice cream flavors on the menu. However nowhere to sit and enjoy. So definitely a treat to take to go.
(3)Penelope T.
This place's ice cream pales in comparison to that which you can get at JP licks and Christina's ice cream shop. Cheap tasting ingredients.
(1)Tawny A.
banana and cinnamon ice cream??? yes please. i really enjoyed the suble flavors and texture, it really tastes homemade!
(4)Kristina M.
(2)Peter G.
(2)Charoline D.
(3)Justine N.
(3)Lindsay L.
Get the mocha almond ice cream. That's all you need to know. In Harvard Square, this is my favorite place for ice cream.
(4)Ligaya T.
(3)Vanilla P.
Peanut butter cup! Mint oreo cookie! Peanut butter cup! Mint oreo cookie! Try the Mango ice cream too, IF YOU DARE. It starts off sweet, and then the spiciness hits you and WOW! You need some more of the Peanut butter Cup! Mint oreo cookie! Peanut butter cup! Mint oreo cookie!
(5)Emily J.
(5)Francine W.
I think its really good icecream but F*CK its expensive! damn. i would have given it 4 stars otherwise.
(3)Kwan H.
:D YUM!!!
(5)Wendy B.
The ice cream was great, but it seems to be staffed by a crew of druggie 14 year olds. There were four girls "working" here. Only one was helping anyone. The other refused to make eye contact with other people in line and kept dashing to the back. There is no way that they weren't doing drugs back there.
(2)Erin G.
(5)Anna P.
Just. .
(1)Jenn W.
Very strange...each time I've gone back for Chocolate Orgy over the past month, the ice cream has a weird (gritty+ammonia) aftertaste and the store has an ammonia smell. What is going on??
(4)Nathan R.
Pretty good Ice Cream. I got the chocolate orgy...not bad. I wouldn't necessarily say "orgy worthy" but more like a "chocolate social gathering worthy". The single scoop size was plenty.
(4)Chloe C.
(3)Doreen X.
All you have to know about this place is their ice cream sampler. It's five scoops topped with whipped cream and whatever else you want to indulge in for $6. I like coming here with a friend and challenging ourselves to finishing the entire sundae. Usually, the sampler defeats us.
(3)J. L.
The ice cream at Lizzy's is homemade, good but very sweet. The young lady working there was nothing but friendly though. There are a decent amount of flavors to choose from. Good location.
(4)Ariel W.
(2)Kenneth B.
(3)H T.
(3)Lynne S.
(3)Natasha A.
Lizzy's has the best ice-cream and was a must-have back in Waltham. So glad they opened up in Harvard square now. My favs are anything with coffee, or espresso chips.
(4)Caitlyn L.
(4)Robert S.
(3)Maryn H.
(4)Jenny N.
I have no doubt I'll be back to try this place again though (maybe one of the fruit flavors next!) since I love the Harvard Sq. area :)
(3)Britt C.
(4)Evie U.
(5)Deepa C.
my sister and i came here before seeing eastern promises last weekend. it was a hot night and ice cream was almost a requirement. the lines was out the door but they moved quickly. but when we got in to the front i was so flustered by all the people crowding and yelling i couldn't decide, and the longer i took, the more flustered i got - performance anxiety? the staff was very good natured and nice enough to let me try the blackberry and we both ordered a cup. in the meantime, i knocked over a set of cups and spilled all the change in my bag. but that's not their fault... i agree with many of the other reviewers regarding the lack of seating and space. you're in line, you order, you pay and then you need to fight the line to get back out the door. the ice cream was good - nothing fantastic. i am a long time fan of tosca. and rancetore's is right across the street, so i am in no shortage of good ice cream. all that said - if it is hot and i am waiting for a movie to start, i will probably be back. if i am anything, i am lazy.
(3)Huan z.
Very tiny Place but very yummy ice cream. They also sell take home version ones too. I like their Waltham branch bit better cause you have more place to sit.
(3)Sarah G.
(1)Heather M.

I was not impressed with this place at all. My coffee frappe tasted like iced milk (read, no coffee flavor, or any flavor really) and was way heavier than a real frappe should be. The service was totally personality-less, and the place was empty and silent. In sum: Bland. No fun. And pricey, to top it all off. I won't be back.

This place is good. The ice cream is rich, tasty and there are a lot of choices to choose from. Definitely recommend this place for ice cream lover even in 40 degree weather !!
