One of the worst places I have ever been for a trivia night. First, you walk into a very tiny bar area, there is not a single hostess or waitress to ask you how many you have in your party you basically have to run over people to get to a table once one is open. I went this past Wednesday night with a group of 3 friends and my boyfriend. When we arrived the place was PACKED at 7:45. Again, not one person asked us if we wanted to sit, wanted drinks, etc. When a group of four left we had to literally race to the bar top area facing the windows in the back of the restaurant where they were seated. But, the worst was yet to come. I have worked as a bartender and server for over 6 years. I am beyond respectful and usually even if the service is shitty I will tip 15-20% because I know what its like to have a bad night. Once we sat down it took our waitress over 20 minutes to come over. We were all thirsty/hungry so we were anxious to order. We were faced with a woman who had no personality and could have cared less about our food/drink orders. I got a strawberry lemonade margarita and it was delicious! Sugar rim, garnished with a lime in a large pint glass with a mild pink color. Once our food arrived after 45 minutes (we had fries a burger, and lettuce wraps) I asked for another strawberry lemonade margarita. When the waitress brought it I thought she was kidding. It showed up in a large margarita glass, was blood red, rimmed with salt not sugar and had no garnish. I was pretty confused but tried it anyway. It was a straight strawberry margarita which was absolutely awful. When our waitress came over I asked very politely if this was the strawberry lemonade margarita and explained the differences to her. She reluctantly took the drink over to the bar area. When she came back, she had THE SAME EXACT DRINK and told me "it was what I ordered". I again tried to explain it tasted so different and she just shrugged her shoulders. I told her I would not drink it because it was completely filled with an obscene amount of strawberry flavoring and she said thats fine but I would still have to pay for it. I was so upset at that point by her attitude I just wanted to leave. We got the check and her tip reflected her horrible attitude. In 6 years of service I have NEVER, not once, had a customer complain about a drink or anything, and then bring it back and say " too bad it's just you" I would not recommend this bar. It seems like the staff could care less, and especially on trivia night when there is a huge potential for big checks and to be personable with your tables. I will not be back, and i doubt my group of friends will either.

Joe's is OKAY. I tried it once for lunch because the name tickled me (it doesn't take much) and again for dinner on a date. The first time I had a burger and the second time I tried the enchiladas (their special that night). Food was fine, service was fine, but nothing really stood out or made me think "Definitely coming back for THIS!" It was pretty loud in there due to their Trivia Night, but not unreasonably so; my bad for not checking their event calendar. Might still try their brunch someday just to try their full menu, it just wasn't particularly memorable.

It looks like a glorified dive bar, but the kitchen is excellent. The bar food has long had a really good reputation, but it has gotten even better... even stellar. Joe Sent Me now has the most outrageous, wonderful, yet reasonably priced brunch in Greater Boston (10:30-2:30 Saturday and Sunday). They hired Michelle, a former chef from Tryst in Arlington, and she is doing miraculous things with eggs and other breakfast fare.

Service here is always ok. Apparently trivia night is popular as the crowd grew and the server became too busy to fill drinks or make sure our meal was ok. I've had wings burgers fish pulled pork and a shrimp appetizer which all tasted well. Tonight I had steak tips and shrimp. The tips were cooked medium well as requested. The 3 shrimp were grilled nicely although I requested fried shrimp. I didn't trip since it was only 3 shrimp. The fries were good but I think most of mine were bottom of the bag crumbs. The strawberry and lemonade margarita was good and served in a pint glass. My friend had the north ender burger and enjoyed it but prefers Christopher's down the street. This place is too close to not come back plus the food isn't awful but it's reasonably priced. I look forward to brunch soon.

Joe Sent Me has improved a lot recently -- and not just by reopening the sidewalk patio! I have noticed their expanded menu and improved kitchen prep on their "old stand-by" burgers. Pretty great now and they also serve lunch and brunch. I'm glad to live nearby and call it a better than average pub kitchen.

I've been to the location on mass ave. The food wad average. The bartenders are cool.

Great food. Couldn't decide between the turkey or the steak tips so went with the combo with rice. Both were excellent but I could've eaten the turkey tips all night. Great ambiance and drinks at a reasonable price, too. Definitely recommend.

Blah. No personality in the place. Or in the bar staff. Stopped in for a beer and that will be enough. Not a bad place, super blah. And no darts.

We've been living in Cambridge for a while. I remember when this place opened. Our firdt attempt to go here made us turn around. A few table set ups and what looked like a bro bar. Fast forward to a few weeks ago. Went here with a couple of friends to avoid th Davis Square crowds. Went in and sat at the bar. Good mixed drinks, fun music, and sports on the TV's, can't go wrong with that mix. Went back with a bigger group last night and enjoyed some good dishes. I think this will become our go to chill out bar. Never over crowded, decent prices, and good bar food.

Joe's take on the prohibition theme is pure camp, but it's not the only restaurant in its vicinity where the inside is decorated to look like you are outside. In general, it is a fun neighborhood bar. It caters to an older, more local crowd than that of Davis Square proper, so it makes for a nice break from the yuppie hipster vibes emanating from just a quarter mile away. They also serve excellent pub food. It is down to earth, satisfying and inexpensive. I especially like their burgers. They have a wide selection, and are as good if not better than some burger restaurants in town. They also have a bunch of tropical drinks served in fish bowls. These are tasty and strong, but served responsibly. The menu stipulates that you can only purchase one for sharing, and one pair can order no more than two a night. The servers are friendly though not always on top of things. The clientele seems to be really outgoing too. The last couple times my barmates and I have been there, we've gotten into some pretty interesting conversations with random drunk couples.

Sort of the definition of a hole-in-the-wall bar, we actually lived in the area for about 4 years before going here. Don't make the same mistake. For the record, we never got anything more sophisticated than beers, apps, burgers/pulled pork, and the occasional mixed drink. Never had a complaint. Of course, we could also walk there, so that cut down on the complaints markedly. Parking, like everywhere in Cambridge, isn't exactly "easy", so be warned.

For whatever reason, I expected Joe Sent Me to be like a TGI Fridays on the inside - I was pleasantly surprised to find that the space is low key with a nice long bar and a smattering of tables. (Not a Guy Fieri in sight.) We've been trivia hopping for the past few months and I think we've found a home at Joe Sent Me. They serve up a pretty competitive Geeks Who Drink trivia on Wednesday evenings. I like the number of teams - I like the Geeks Who Drink format and the space is pretty decent, so all in all not too shabby. The food is OK. Burgers are pretty standard (though one week my friend ordered a turkey burger, which was cooked to "hockey puck" doneness). The regular fries are soggy and sad - but the sweet potato and the Cajun fries are pretty good. The beer selection is decent - though we sold them out of High Life a couple weeks ago and it seems that they have not yet replenished their stock. For 8PM trivia Wednesday, the place does get pretty packed around 7:30 or so - so if you're looking for a table come on the earlier side.

After a 45 minute drive to try the "amazing" Greek place up the road we had a major incident with rude waitstaff and were unable to eat there. We were running into a timing issue with needing to get back to our friends house to get our luggage and zoot to the airport. We ended up a few doors down at Joe Sent Me. Granted it was early lunch time on a Sunday so the place was fairly empty and we were seated right away. They had football going on the tv's and a few smatterings of people at the bars and at the tables. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful and made some recommendations - 5 out of 6 of us ended up going for the Buffalo Chicken wrap - it was pretty darn tasty, I was already planning on having that but I can see why they recommend it! Apparently there are a bunch of french fry options, I missed that part and ended up with the regular version, but the Cajun ones were tastier. There's also some smothered or wet version too, but I couldn't decipher what that entitled, it looked pretty good too! If you're not starving or just a bit insane I do recommend sharing the wrap, or at least being prepared to take 1/2 home with you! We started out with the fried pickles, they're actually the whole spear and not just slices - SO good - I highly recommend!

We go to Joe's Sent Me at least once per month; consistent food and great prices. Steak lettuce wraps and buffalo wings are always a hit!. Fantastic beer selection, casual atmosphere.

I have lived in this neighborhood for over 7 years. Joe Sent Me was a fun sports bar until recently. I have had bad & I've had stellar service. I am always looking for a well made Tuna Melt & Reuben. I counted on this. Then they changed the menu. I haven't had good service till recently. I ordered fried pickles & a Shrimp Po Boy. The pickles were so delicious. Usually I prefer them as discs coz they end up soggy otherwise. But Joe's chef got it right. When they ask if you want to upgrade to Cajun fries;do it. The Shrimp Po Boy was well made & yummy. Ask for extra aioli.

Good beer selection and food is great. Also, they've got Stump Trivia every Tuesday night at 8, which is pretty awesome. I'm there every week.

This place is hit or miss. They have the spiciest wings I can find in the Boston area but there is one cook there that just sucks. Once he sent cold wings out and another time we ordered diablo and he sent out buffalo, we sent them back and he said they were diablo when they clearly weren't. We know it was the same because we asked.

Looking for lunch after my son's hockey game in Waltham. Have passed by this place in the past and wanted to try it. Not hugely crowded for a Sunday during a Pats game. Looked like a many locals at the bar. We settled into a booth to watch the game and each had a burger and fries. Burger was among the best I've had in quite a while - fresh, tasty and cooked exactly as ordered. The bun was also very fresh and toasted. The fries look handmade and were also some of the best in recent memory; very crispy and addictive. Got two orders of buffalo wings (30 cents per wing during the game.) I am very particular about my wings and compare all to the gold standard (the now-defunct Division 16 in Boston.) These were really good; spicy but not nuclear, and crispy as ordered (did not like being charged $1.00 for carrots and celery. Come on folks, are you kidding me?) Overall, very reasonably-priced and a great neighborhood spot. Will be back soon!

It's sad when a business needs to steal from their customers. The pint glasses here only hold 12oz's and your charged the price of a full pint. The bottoms of the glasses are extra thick to give the look of a pint, other bars and restaurants do use theses glasses but the cost is reduced accordingly. If you do find yourself going here please pay attention to what's going on do not expect the right thing to be done by the management.

It's ok. Wait staff was pretty incompetent. Couldn't tell me what was in anything and seemed unable to ask the kitchen. Sort of seemed annoyed to have to get us stuff as a waiter. Fries and buffalo chicken wrap were fine. Black bean soup was inedible. The saltiest salt lick I've ever tasted. Waitress did not notice we did not eat it. Minus one star for super salt and having to pay extra for a side of dressing. That tiny dish of honey mustard does not cost you a $1.

I'm about as local to Joe's as you can get, and it is a terrific local. The staff is friendly, the prices reasonable and the food is great for pub grub- while the menu sports some unexpected twists. Great place to catch a game, have a meal on the patio, play pub trivia, whatever. The ONLY thing that makes Joe's less then a 4, is the confusingly slow food service time. Even when not busy, prepare to wait 25-30 for a couple of burgers. The burgers are bombtastic; but unless the cow is slaughtered, butchered, prepped and grilled upon order- a burger should take 15 mins tops. Whatever- I'm typically not in a rush, and when the burger comes, you wont be disappointed. If you fancy some heat, ask for the Diablo sauce. Little bit of smoke and a whole lot of habanero- great on wings or the chicken sando. Toasty.

Stopped in for lunch after a round of golf just outside of town. Wonderful. Delicious. Soothing. Laid-back. I had been to Joe Sent Me before but this lunch experience sealed the deal for me. We were immediately served fantastic Spaten Octoberfest brew and had just enough time to relax and take in the ambiance before the burger arrived. The Boilermaker was supposed to be medium-rare and was actually medium-well but the slight overcooking didn't matter - it was perfect! Cajun fries to liven up the side and boom!

Its a good after work environment for a quick drink or two. I experienced trivia night for the first time and it was pretty entertaining. Foods good and menu has great variety. I hear they have brunch now and looking forward to trying it out. I work near by so I often will order a meal to go for lunch and it seems the kitchen staff if very consistant in quality through out the day. Drinks here after work are always great and it usually isnt too hard to get a table.

Can't believe I haven't reviewed this place! Used to come here a lot with co-workers from a certain local school district. After softball games, one of the teachers was always able to plan a night for us and got the good folks at Joe Sent Me to put out some appetizers. The buffalo wings here are AMAZING. Maybe the best around Boston. I take my wings seriously, so take heed. Old James knows his wings, son! Good beer selection, they always have something new to try. Good selection of scotch and whisky too. The Coors Light bottles used to be $3.25 but last time I was here they had jacked them up to $4 or something. Sign of the times, right? The jukebox is a definite draw. We'd always get some good tunes rocking during happy hour back in the day. One of my co-workers was somewhat famous for loading $20+ in there at a time. Tasty tunes make for good times while crushing brews. If he didn't like booze so much, I'd say he spent more $$ here lifetime on the juke than on drinks, but that's just simply not true. Nice trip down memory lane writing this. I should come back for some wings and college football sometime soon. It's only a short bus ride away, after all. Darts too, those are fun, right guys??!?

Good place but the music was a little loud for a Tuesday night, but there was Trivia going on so I can forgive that I guess. The food was good, except there was an upcharge for everything, including a .30 cent charge for BBQ sauce which I thought was a little tacky. Not a fan of upcharges on everything - which is how the menu seemed to work. However, I like that it is not right in Davis and will definetly be back.

Perfectly acceptable for an afternoon beer and a burger. Several beers, vodkas and french fries later, headed home. No jack on the menu, surprising. Totally local crew, only one bartender serving the entire floor but it was between lunch and dinner, no problem, help arrived before we left. Here's my beef: they have Joe Torre sliders on the menu, totally unacceptable. I demand you pick a famous Bostonian to replace: Joe Castiglione, Joe Morgan. Come on people, suggestions? Beef part two: the Sloppy Joes are actually fries and they are tossed in a bbq like sauce and then drizzled with a Secret blend sauce. Take away the BBQ sauce replace it with the dry rub the sauce is made from, drizzle with secret sauce et voila perfectly spiced dry fries with a nice condiment. Also, really i think you should have real sloppy joes.

I LOVE this place. Been coming here for a few years now, finally decided to sit down and write a long overdue review. 1-Food: Honestly, for a bar/pub this place has a very impressive and extensive menu. Their burgers are creative and very tasty. They have wraps and entrees as well. Burgers and sandwiches are all priced under $10 which is very reasonable and entrees are not that much more expensive. The kitchen is a tad slow, but unlike chain restaurants, there is more than likely just one cook taking care of all the food orders. Trust me, the food is worth the not so long wait. 2-The Bar atmosphere: I'm really not a big "going out" person, and I can't stand over crowded bars that attract students like ones in Davis sq, but this place is great because it tends to be geared more towards locals, working class, young professionals that have made Cambridge their home, and Average "Joe's" like myself! Its usually not too packed on the weekends, just enough people where its lively, yet you have room to move around. The bar staff are very friendly and attentive, and prices for drinks are alot more reasonable than any place in the "squares" of Cambridge. Overall this place is great for a quick bite to eat, or even a night out. Try it once, you won't be dissappointed!

Interesting (well, maybe obvious) as you get farther up Mass Ave from Harvard Square the clientele gets less studently and more local. Whether this is a good thing or not is up to you, but it's nice to know there's a choice of pub-type places where everyone else is not 30 years younger than me. However, the menu was more eclectic than I expected and the food was more than decent for a bar.. Service was good and welcoming. (A local bar in Cambridge is a whole different matter than a local bar in South Boston). Yeah, all the other reviews are right, the kitchen is slow. Although pub type snacks like chicken fingers seem to come out fast to bar patrons, anything approaching a real meal takes longer than in similar places. But we found our food to have a little more care put into it than some other places.Perhaps more things are made from scratch, who knows - we just need to not have any pressing engagement on the other end,

Joe Sent Me is not a great place to watch a game. We recently went to Joe Sent Me to watch a football game and almost everyone in the place was sitting at the bar watching either the Red Sox vs. the Yankees or the opening day football game that we were there to watch. The restaurant/bar was playing loud country music. Seeing that the place was largely empty and that most customers were there for sports, we asked for the game sound. They just said no. We were told that they'll only put the sound on for "important games" and I guess the one we were watching wasn't important enough. The waitress was sweet so we each got a beer but left without ordering food. Moral of the story: If you're looking for a place to watch a game, take a 10 minute walk into Davis Square; there are restaurants much more sports-fan friendly.

Ordered pick up for mini burgers and veggies. Chicken wings were alright, other food were not as great as described. Waitress was not helping. All she wants is that credit card. Quality/price ratio is low. I personally don't recommend.

this is a neighborhood pub that will get to know you if you go frequently enough. It's mostly locals so you shouldn't expect to be ripped off or have bad service. Very knowledgable staff on drinks and also offer a good variety on food. Pretty good pulled pork but I wish it was more moist. Overall, everyone was very nice and this is a nice place to hang out with your friends after work.

Hey Joe! Will you be my new neighborhood bar??? You will?? YAYERS! Matt and I decided to go on a mini bar adventure near our new humble abode and this was our first stop. We happened to be here on trivia night, so it was packed!! Even the outdoor tables were full! And on a night as nice as that one, we wanted to sit outside. Oh well though. We found two stools and got two beers and played along to the trivia for the last couple questions, and looking at the decor in here...their beer posters, vintage signs....it just felt so homey and nice. And then we saw that they also serve giant bowl drinks called Joe's Bowls and at that moment we knew we would be coming back to try each of the four varieties they offer :-) And their food smelled so so good. If we hadn't just finished cooking and eating, we would have partaken in their yummy looking fries and sandwiches and burgers....A little birdy there told us that they have the best sweet potato fries in Boston, and that sounds like a challenge to us, so the next time we go, it will be one of Joe's Bowls and an order of sweet potato fries....But Joe, I have a feeling I will constantly being telling people I am coming to hang out with you. You are so close to our house, and everything about you is just great! And I mean come on, it has to be one of the coolest bar names ever.

I consider this a local bar, it's a decent place on Mass ave close to the Arlington border. Good bartenders and strong drinks that are reasonably priced.

A decent local chain (well two restaurants - does that make it a chain or a link? I usually get something off the burger menu. They use Angus beef, and usually is done to specification. What is also nice, and what many don't get: the cole slaw! Nicely spiced, peppery, fresh, cole slaw! Try this in lieu of the fatty fries. The fish and chips are excellent as well, crispy fish, filling. Nicely placed televisions with two feeds makes it possible to watch two sporting events at once. Servers / bartenders are chatty to appropriate level. The special cocktails are a bit too sweet, but for once in a while they are nice. All in all, a laid-back bar food joint, good drinks, and easy-going. Beware of trivia night - a little more difficult to get a table then.

One of my biggest bar pet peeves of all time? When a bartender or waitress whisks away a drink you're not finished with yet. With cat-like reflexes, one of the servers at Joe Sent Me disappeared into the ether with my last few sips of beer that I was planning to savor. Most of the time, when I inform servers about their error, I get a shrug, but this waitress was kind enough to replenish the pilfered pint. I've gone by this place a million times but I happened to find myself in the neighborhood with some time to kill, so in I went. Interesting decor, with a lot of old signage (loved the giant Schlitz finger pointing down right at me) and a zombie Humphrey Bogart up on the wall next to some Mardi Gras revelers. Overall it's a solid neighborhood bar that's not quite a dive and isn't trying very hard to fall into any of the Boston bar stereotypes (sports, "Irish", upscale, hipster, beer snob) - though inside you're likely to find sports (on the tv's), guys wearing scally caps, the rather upscale "Wine By Joe" from Oregon, the odd hipster now and again, and probably a beer snob or two thanks to offerings of Rapscallion and Dogfish.

A local favorite of my boyfriend and I, Joe Sent Me is awesome for a few reasons: 1) Best pulled pork in Cambridge. And Somerville. Probably Boston also. DELICIOUS. 2) It's hardly ever too crowded to get a table. Great place to go for dinner on a Friday or Saturday without having to worry about reservations or a line. 3) Fishbowl drinks! tasty. They also have lots of other good things to drink, including Magners. In short, Joe Sent Me is a great place to go for a casual meal. I've never left unsatisfied!

This might have to be a somewhat limited review for Joe sent me. I've been there twice and can only review from what I've seen. My visits were as follows: 1) Went there with some friends to celebrate a birthday. We found seating no problem, service fairly attentive, and prices pretty standard for bars in Cambridge. Overall a good place to have a few pints, shoot some darts and shoot the shit. 2) I managed to fall and horribly mangle my hands a few blocks away and stumbled into Joe sent me to clean up/stop the bleeding. It was a scene... they dealt with it pretty well though! Many bandaids and napkins later I was ok! Kind of... I was torn between 3 and 4 stars, but for providing better AND FASTER care than most of the nearby hospitals? Joe's cool in my book.

I really wanted to like this place. I just moved up to North Cambridge from near Harvard Law School and Lesley. I thought this could be my new Cambridge Common. I was impressed with neither the food nor the service. The service started out fine. The waitress came over to get our drink order very quickly. Then she came back promptly to take our food order. I am the world's slowest beer drinker, and I was almost done with my beer by the time the food came. I got a boilermaker with a turkey burger and no cheese with sweet potato fries. My dining companion got a standard turkey burger with sweet potato fries. My burger was extremely dry and overcooked. Even the bacon on it was dry. The precooked microwavable bacon I eat at home was better than the bacon on this burger. The sweet potato fries were pretty delicious though. After waiting a long time (maybe because I had a half-eaten burger still on my plate), a waitress came by to see if we wanted more beer, which we didn't. Shortly thereafter another waitress came by to see if we wanted another beer. We said we were done, so she asked if I wanted a box. I said, a small one, for the fries. Shortly thereafter, a third waitress came by and asked if we were done and needed a box. I said, someone else was getting me one. Then, the second waitress returned with our check and a small box. Then the third waitress returned with an even bigger box. We looked at the check, and it wasn't even ours, so my friend had to go find one of the waitresses (we weren't sure which one) to get the right check. 1 star for the quick drinks when I arrived, and 1 star for the sweet potato fries. That's all I can do. I guess we'll be taking the 77 down to Cambridge Common still.

Went there with friends for late night dinner/beer. The food was quick and nice. I care about food. The server was also quick and attentive. Music was nice too. I am not much of beer person, but I will definitely go back if I want some late night food.

We go to "Joe Sent Me" a few times a year for the fried pickles. The majority of the appetizers are great, but the fried pickles are stand-out. I really, really recommend them - although be careful when you take a bite, because pickles conduct heat like crazy, and they'll burn your mouth. I'm not a huge fan of the non-appetizer items on the menu. I've had a few of their entrees, and they were just so-so. The burgers were okay, but nothing special. This is standard bar/pub food, and I assume that most people who come here aren't looking for a fantastic meal. The general atmosphere at Joe Sent Me is really great, and fills a void in the area. A lot of the bars in north Cambridge and Somerville are straight-up pubs, wannabe pubs, upscale bars, loud college bars, dives, or wannabe dives. Joe Sent Me strikes a nice balance all its own. It's a friendly, open, "around the corner"-style bar. I like the undeveloped wiseguy theme, and the sign over the main door. There are television sets for people who want to watch sports, but they don't overwhelm the dining room. The bar itself is fun, and the beer selection is solid. If I were the type to watch sporting events at a bar with other people, Joe Sent Me is exactly the kind of place I'd go: it gets crowded, but not crazy. Alas, I'm not that type of person. I come for the fried pickles. Seriously: five-star pickles.

HIM: Stopped in here the other day for lunch. This place serves a pretty damn good burger. I got the Bacon Cheddar with Thousand Island dressing. Everything was pretty tasty. They serve a good selection of different types of burgers leaving you to make a difficult decision. I thought that the ingredients they use were better than average. It seemed a little more kicked up than your average pub food. I went in there not thinking about buffalo wings until I started to smell them coming out of the kitchen and noticed the waiter pass me a couple times with a plate of them. Needless to say, I placed in an order. They were pretty good, they smelt a lot more spicier than they were, they were actually just right and the blue cheese dressing was filled with chunks of blue cheese. These were not "the best" I've had but were still very good. The portions were mighty. If I'm looking for a burger, I would definitely go back here on another hung over Sunday lunch day.

Great burgers! A fun place to go with a group of people. But achingly slow service

I usually go for places that have an wide variety beer selection but I just had to comment on the burgers. I've only been here once but I know that I could have their hamburger without everything... it was that good. I had the fish and chips which was awsome as well. What made me go that night was the trivia night on Tuesdays. It was the normal Stump Trivia which I've seen around Boston. The crowd is good and the bar showed the celtics and bruins game... It's definitely a nice place to have a good night

The things I love about Joe Sent Me: 1. The hot wings 2. Trivia (with Soul Coughing in the background) 3. The funny looking characters painted on the wall 4. The schlitz sign hanging from the ceiling (and yet they don't have Schlitz) 5. Buckets and buckets of beer to share with my soccer mates after we lose yet another game. 6. DTP's story about giving his number to the waitress. And yes, she called him. ...To remind him he forgot to pay the bill.

Great atmosphere, good beer and fun trivia night. My friend and I met a regular there (older gentleman named Phil) who joined our trivia team just because he was sitting next to us. Had a great time, except there were clearly some people cheating with their iPhones. Ridiculous! The host even called it out in the middle of the game: "It's a free trivia night at your local bar. Why would you cheat??" I know it's not the bar's fault (can't police everyone!), but that really irked me. I'll actually probably go somewhere else for my next trivia night. Had two Pumpkinhead beers, which are quickly turning into my beer of choice for the fall. The bartenders were extremely nice and there were two HUGE tvs right above the bar, so I can definitely see myself going back for drinks and to watch the Sox.

Joe sent me is a great location for happy hour drinks or a good night of Tuesday trivia. It has a local casual feel to it and recently added outdoor seating. If I had to choose one stand out item it''s the fried pickles. All the other meals I have had are good standard pub fare.

It's nice to be walking distance from a place like this. It's a smallish pub with a casual, somewhat quiet atmosphere. The food and drinks are reasonably-priced, for Boston anyway. My favorite things on the menu are the fried pickles and the sweet potato fries. Both are among the best in Boston. Just let the fried pickles cool for a few minutes or you won't be tasting anything for a couple of days. But that's just common sense really. The other menu items are quite good. Not the best I've had, but definitely worth it for the price. I've never had anything from there that wasn't good. The buffalo chicken wrap is usually what I get. Beer selection is good too, with a good number of microbrews. And plus, I'm always a sucker for the chalkboard beer menu. Props to that. Joe Sent Me (Cambridge) is a good, reasonably-priced pub without a lot of hoopla. Definitely recommended.

I used to work right down the street from this place and would be there pretty much 3 or 4 nights a week. First off, they have the best burgers in town. Some people (myself included) would argue they are better than RFF O'Sullivans. They have a decent selection of beers and it is a great place to set and relax while watching some sports. I stopped in there last night for a drink + dinner with a friend and it was the first time I've been back in over a year (damn you office move!). While I didn't know the bartender working, I did recognize a couple of regulars from the 'hood who have been coming there for years. The downside of the place is that it gets really packed on the weekends and loud, so it isn't the best place if you want to socialize or carry on a conversation. Also, it is about 10 minute walk from Davis which isn't bad, but you have to make an effort to go there when there are other bars right in Davis. It is definitely worth the walk though!

I went in here with friends because we'd been told they have margaritas in scorpion bowls, and, hey, how could we resist that? They did, indeed, have four mixed drinks available in big bowls (Joe bowls), and we were happy with them (though the marg was just from sour mix, so no match for Rudy's), and the burgers were, as other reviews promised, excellent. However, I think we got the worst service here that I've had in a decade. The food took almost an hour to arrive (and we heard other tables complaining similarly), and when it did, one of the dishes a friend had ordered simply didn't come out. The server didn't notice, and it took us several minutes to flag her down to ask about it. Without apologizing, she asked what my friend had ordered, went to check on it, and came back to say "it didn't get put in." She promised it would be out in 5 minutes. Fifteen minutes later, we had to flag her down to ask about it again. At no point were we offered an apology, and it was only when we complained that she offered to comp us one of the drinks. Because the rest of us had long finished eating, we gave up on the last dish and got the check at that point. This is a great case of an instance where good customer service would have guaranteed repeat business, but lousy service guarantees I won't be back.

Trivia on Tuesday = Awesome! Came here with a group of friends for their Stump trivia on Tuesday nights. It was awesome. My normal complaint - as with most trivia that I've witnessed - is that it takes a long time and by the time the 2 hour mark rolls around, I get kinda antsy, but that has very little to do with Joe's. What makes it awesome is that there's a good group of people, so it's fun, but the bar isn't so super crowded that you have to arrive hours early to get a seat. And it's not so loud that you can't think. I love Joe's and now I have an excuse to come here on Tuesdays (trivia) as well as Wednesdays (1/2 price apps.)

Their drinks are definitely the main event at this place! They have drinks the size of fish bowls and tasty beyond belief! Although they will not let you order one by yourself I think it's probably best that they make you share! We had 2 between 3 people and walked out with a pretty good buzz going! As far as food goes it was just okay, nothing overly exciting and I wouldn't recommend their desert... it's really nothing special and not worth the money! The atmosphere was okay... it was dark and noisy and its usually extremely busy on Friday and Saturday nights! Our waitress looked a little confused both times I've gone, like she was unsure if she was suppose to be taking care of us or if it was the other girls job. All around not a bad experience... if you're looking for somewhere with some good drinks take this place... otherwise its just a mediocre experience!

Saturday night = beer + bbq wings + sliders + FRIED pickles Amazing. Joe Sent Me isn't a place for Belgian microbrews or pan-Asian Tapas. It's a bar with TV's, two dart boards, friendly service, outdoor seating and some delicious pub food. It's exactly what you need right now. I inhaled my food last night. Ask my friends.

Joe sent me is a comfortable, casual neighborhood bar. Trivia on Tuesday nights are super fun. Food is a solid B. It's pretty standard pub food. But their fried pickles are great, as well as their burgers. The waitresses are all really nice and right on top of things. The new bartender, Bobby is fantastic. He's friendly, and really knows his drinks!

Joe Sent Me is right around the corner from my house and I am not quite sure why I don't come here more often. I have liked it every time. Their burgers are especially good and huge!! I am not the biggest fan of their fries but they are not horrible by any means. It is a great place to grab a bite to eat, watch the game and have a beer. Trivia night on Tuesdays is also a good time. The fish bowls are a must if you are doing a local pub crawl! Not cheap, but they definitely add some amusement along with a good buzz. I agree with another yelper that they could turn the music down a tad. I don't think anyone is going to Joe Sent Me to get their dance on .

What a horrible experience here tonight. We walked into Joe's at 6 on the dot. There was one table seated in the entire restaurant, along with four gentlemen sitting at the bar. Although the male bartender approached us quickly, he was very unfriendly (to the point that I said, "I don't like him" after our first encounter). We ordered two waters, one beer, a slider appetizer, and a crabcake appetizer. I started getting a little antsy at 6:25. This is when I noticed that the staff was doing nothing but leaving the building together and socializing. One waitress even left and came back with a pizza for herself before we so much as smelled food in the place. The bartender himself completely abandoned the counter for about 15 minutes, so there was no one who we could politely ask to please check on our food. When he came back in and after about five more minutes of socializing, he came over and said, "Shouldn't be too much longer. The kitchen's just backed up with that other table." What, that ONE other table?! Ten minutes after, we saw him and another server run the other table's food (4 sandwiches). I looked at my boyfriend and said, "I don't think they even started our appetizers." We finally paid for the beer and left after waiting 45 minutes for the two appetizers. No staff members were to be found. As a server myself, I completely empathize with waitstaff. IT ISN'T ALWAYS THEIR FAULT when things go wrong. Things such as problems in the kitchen, other difficult tables, and just being "in the weeds" can disrupt otherwise fine service. HOWEVER, in this case, I believe the bartender is at fault. He was rude and completely unconcerned with us; moreover, he could easily have remedied an otherwise bad experience by saying something like, "I'm very sorry it's taken so long; can I bring you something cold in the meantime?" Also, he could have stopped socializing and leaving the building (presumably to smoke a butt). ENTIRELY unimpressed. We went to Rudy's in Teele Square instead, which was fantastic as always. No wonder why I saw a tumbleweed blow by me as I walked into that dump. Also, they might want to get one of their fabulous servers on cleaning off the disgusting menus. I don't need to know what the greasy fingerprints of everyone who has eaten there in the last year look like.

A fabulous spot! I wasn't impressed by their on-tap selection, so the beer selection is decent, okay I guess, but their foods were great and the ambience here is awesome. Very cozy feel, lots of people, but not dive-y. Feels like a solid neighborhood hangout. Bar and waitstaff were very kind and attentive. All around a solid place to choose as a hangout. Tell them Maria sent you ;)

My fiance and I grabbed dinner there the other night and was really good. We never have had a bad experience here. The burgers are delicious and you have to try the fried pickles! If you plan on being here for a few hours you are better off getting the bucket of beers which have 5 beers and range from $16-$19...great deal!

Ma'! Liz and Damien sent me here and I got drunk. Saturday night, playdate with the kids. The place serves average pub food, I was trying to eat healthy and got a steak salad and it was ok, no big deal, but I should've eaten more of it or something else and maybe things wouldn't have been so ugly the next day. I didn't pay too much attention about what the other kids ordered, but I recall some fried pickles, veggie wrap (for good boy Jordan), buffalo wings (MILD ONES, PFFFT!) and the drinks, Jesus, I "shared" two cocktails-bowls with Lizard, these drinks are meant to be for two or more people and since I count as a half, I don't have to tell you how my Sunday was. I was just too distracted by Damien's impersonations (a new one!) and by watching Liz crawling under the table, that I barely paid attention on how much I was drinking. The service was alright, but I felt it was a bit slow with the food, the waitress was attentive though and everyone seemed okay with their food, other than, the place is just average. I deserve a time out ;).

After 10 years in this great city, I have become accustomed to things in New England that just don't exist in the south. Like a Spa (aka convenience store), a packy, half sour pickles instead of dill, tonic means soda, and never once have I seen a boston baked bean (but it's a candy down south). And maybe something I should now put into this category is deep fried pickles. who came up with this? and since I saw it on the menu here first, I always refer to their menu as "good food, great turkey burgers, but fried pickles - wtf" but to be honest, it's the only complaint about the place (and not really even a complaint - more of an observation). Overall the mood is casual, the bartenders are friendly, the TVs are plentiful, and the place always feels lively but not packed (at least not the dozen or so times I have been there). It's the place where I would be a regular if it weren't such a decent hike from where I live - and that's a testament to the place - it has to have the feel like "I could be comfortable coming in here often and it not get old" - a lot of places don't have that - this place does.

The only reason this place gets 4 stars is for the buffalo wings and its burgers. I can be kind of picky about wings, but these are great. The sauce is spicy but has a slightly sweet undertone that I can't quite place, but it's awesome. They are a bit stingy with the bleu cheese and charge you 50 cents for more, so ration it. The burgers can be excellent, but it depends who's cooking and who you're dining with. I prefer my burgers medium-rare and my boyfriend liked them medium...this is no problem, but if we're ordering with someone who liked their beef more well-done our food is usually overcooked. This place has a "seat yourself" sign at the front, which can pose a problem since their waitstaff are little more than pretty faces poured into tight pants and low-cut tops. Don't count on them bringing you a menu or taking a drink order less than 15 minutes after you arrive. I have had good service experiences at Joe's. There are a few good waitresses among the other less-friendly, less-modest types. Just don't come here if you're in a hurry and you'll be sure to enjoy the food. It's honest, no frills, bar food and that's alright by me.

Last night I met a friend for dinner at "Joe Sent Me" a pub on Mass Ave in Cambridge. There was outdoor seating which was a wonderful thing on an August evening. We each had a different brew on tap and they were great. I enjoyed a turkey tips panini which came with a pickle and cole slaw. My friend had a wrap of some sort...with spinach and bacon. She opted for the fries which she shared with me. Yum! We decided to spilt the dessert special, "lemon bar". It was a lemon cake with lemon frosting and whipped cream. It was good, not great. The service was slow, but we were in no rush and so wasn't a problem.

Solid place for a pub and cheap eats. It really should get a 3.5 stars. Went there for an after work event and was pleasantly surprised. Our server was great; very friendly, attentive, and able to handle a big group. I got the nutty salad with pears and added the steak tips. It was pretty good and really big so I didn't need to order anything else. My boyfriend enjoyed the burger and he thought it was decent. It was also trivia night which was cool for a Tuesday night out.

I don't like this place. You should never be completely abandoned by the staff in a bar or restaurant, but certainly when the place is 75% empty there is no excuse. We also picked up "less than thrilled" vibes from our waiter/bartender because he sensed we weren't going to run up a big bill. Again, in a mostly empty establishment, can you afford to be snotty? I think not. The wings were good, the place was comfortable, and I GUESS I would give it another shot, but only if I sat at the bar so that I might not go 45 minutes between drinks.

I've been here quite a few times. -Bartenders are great. Attentive and friendly. They'll talk with you if you feel like talking, won't bother you if you look like you don't want to talk. -Prices are great. -Place is usually not too crowded. -Food is pretty decent. -Service for food is a tad slow.. but whatever... it's a bar. -Always clean. -Customers are a welcomed diverse crowd. All age groups. I like it. it's a break from super-crowded college-type bars... and yet not a creepy dive with like, 4 old men.

Excellent burgers (try the Caliente with jalapenos) and a decent beer selection. It tends to be very noisy, especially on trivia nights or when one of the local teams is playing a big game. Service at the tables can be spotty if the bar is busy (much of the time the bar staff is also waiting tables), but it's always friendly - and they give you malt vinegar for your fries by default.

Turkey Burger and Fried Pickle? Cool??? Their beer and wine list is great and food is,well Pub food. Try their Caramel Delight Martini. Holy mother freekin YUMMERS I can't go to the one in Waltham, since that is where people who graduated from my High school hang out or work at-too bad since they have a patio Cambridge location has trivia, nice Flat screens and way more space. bartenders are total hotties. I can only describe JSM as a chain like pub. A lot of Uggs, Coach and tight man shirts..... Mixed in with locals and hip people.....I can't identify with any of the three but I always feel like this is a chill place with cool vibe. I would not plan a night in advance here, nor go out of my way. Just a nice place to unexpectedly stop in if you are thirsty or hungry.

Joe Sent Me has a nice neighborhood vibe to it. They have a good beer selection and very good food. My friends' favorite food there is the friend pickles. I think these are the best friend pickles that we've had anywhere around Boston. Joe Sent Me is a nice place for having a casual dinner, grabbing drinks with some friends, or just watching the game (they have a few LCD TVs throughout).

I'm here maybe once a month, always with the same person, and we always order the same things. Sure, part of routine is that it's familiar and comfortable, but this particular routine is just... really darn good... so there's no reason to change it up! The place is always busy, but never packed to the point of being uncomfortable... at least on the weeknights from 8:30-11 that I'd tend to be there. Last week, on my most recent visit, there were three available seats at the bar, two of which were then taken up by me and my compadre. The on-tap beer list is decent. There's nothing unexpected or fantastic on it, but you can get yourself a decent brew. I don't pay attention to what's in bottles, so... not sure about that. There seems to be a fun martini menu, and they now even advertise some bowl-sized drinks on a chalkboard behind the bar. Moving from liquids to solids... the bar food is great! I have to admit, I originally approached the idea of fried pickles with a healthy trepidation, but am a total convert. Fried dill pickle spears, dipped in ranch dressing. So good. I am literally starting to salivate right now just thinking about them. The pickles are always followed up, by me and my buddy, with "blackened blue" burgers: cajun-spiced, with blue cheese dressing. My friend gets the standard beef burger, and I get the veggie variety. This is one of the only veggie burgers I've ever encountered that is every bit as flavorful as the meaty sort, and so at Joe Sent Me, I never feel like I'm losing out by avoiding the cow. Fries come with this: I've tried the regular and the cajun, and both are tasty. Otherwise... what's to be said? The music is usually pretty decent, and not overly loud. For sports fans, there are big new plasma HDTVs mounted above the bar. Tuesday nights they host team trivia matches. It's not a dive bar, it's not upscale, it's not got a particular "scene" per se, it's not really full of any sort of obvious personality at all. It's just a good honest place to grab a pint and some tasty grub. Warm, clean, friendly, and satisfying!

For two years I used to go here every Tuesday, without fail, for Trivia Night. I'd still be going here if I hadn't moved away. The place is packed on Tuesdays, so get here early and dig into your seats. They have a decent variety of beers, although we usually went the Bucket O'Beers route (light, domestic). The food is good, particularly the giant burgers (I named the 'Hawaii Five'Joe' in a contest they were running -- not endorsing it, however). My favorite was the Broadway Joe, with Swiss, sans the sauce. Sweet potato fries! Well placed tvs for Sox viewing. Back in the day you saw the same crowd, waitresses, bartenders. Shelly was best waitress ever. Mike is/was the best trivia jockey. Whenever I go back home for a vacation, I try to hit this place up, but it's not the same anymore -- I'm reviewing on nostalgia here.

Stopped in for a bite to eat and some girl talk with my best girl. Had some beers, had some food. Beer is beer, and the sandwiches we had were good. Our waitress was great. We ended up sitting in the front near the windows to the street. It felt so much less bar-ish and so much more sandwich shop over there. Reading the other revews leads me to think that if I sat more in the depths of the establishment, I wouldn't have felt so misplaced. And I think that's the reason for 3 stars. I'll have to go back and give it another try sometime.

Nice pub with outdoor seating, tasty food, and on this particular visit excellent service. The beautiful day and tasty no-frills burger made my day. I've been at other times and been underwhelmed with the service and the food, so I wouldn't say it's a must see place. But if you're in the mood for a summer sit by Mass. Ave., an afternoon beer and some good pub food it'll do you right.

When it's hot outside, there is nothing better than a juicy burger and an icy cold beer--unless it comes with a side of fried pickles, of course! Tucked away on an oft-forgotten stretch of Mass Ave. in North Cambridge is Joe Sent Me, a neighborhood bar long known for their exceptional burgers. A cozy bar greets you on the way in, and other high tables line up opposite, separating the bar from the regular tables. The dcor is fun and quirky, but the main feature is the five flat screen televisions that line the room--a great place to cheer on the Sox over a frosty glass of ale. Harkening back to the times when speakeasies were referred to as "Joe Sent Me" (used as a password to gain entry); the bar offers up a decent selection of beer, wine and mixed drinks. Unfortunately, on a recent night that I was there, they had switched out the beer that I usually ordered for a blueberry offering and the two other options I wanted were unavailable, although they were still showing on the chalkboard above the bar. You wouldn't expect to find good cocktails in a bar of this nature, but surprisingly, their martinis are quite tasty. My favorite is the "Flirtini," a combination of Absolut, strawberry liqueur, and Grand Marnier, with cranberry and pineapple juices ($8). You can even order a variety of "Joe's Bowls," flavorful mixed drinks for two. The menu consists primarily of appetizers you would expect to find at a bar: chicken quesadillas ($6.95), chicken fingers ($6.95), and mini cheese burgers ($7.95), but there are also a few surprises--for starters, the tasty Bazooka Joe's fried pickles ($6.50) which are the perfect combination of sour and crunchy. You can also sample some mediocre fried spring rolls ($6.95) or instead, opt for the best thing on the app menu, Cousin Joe's Kickin' Chicken Wings, in your choice of buffalo, BBQ, teriyaki, or Diablo (Hot). There are two sizes, the 10 or the 20 piece. If you go for the larger size, make sure you have a very healthy appetite--these wings aren't tiny! There are salads for the more health conscious, but the size and the dressings are definitely not conducive for weight watchers. Still, they probably pack on fewer pounds than the other entrees, especially since you won't be chowing down on Joe's excellent fries. Check out the Cocamo Joe's Luau Salad ($7.95), one of the many Hawaiian themed items on the menu. The grilled teriyaki chicken on a bed of lettuce, with garden veggies, crispy wontons and grilled pineapple is sure to hit the spot. Just ask for your spicy Thai peanut dressing on the side. Joe Sent Me is really known for their burgers but you can also choose between a variety of wraps, sandwiches and a handful of main entrees. The Bayou Joe's pulled pork sandwich has a nice smoky flavor. If you order the pulled pork wrap (which we ended up with because of a server mess-up--both are $7.95) you'll find it comes with coleslaw, which some people either love or hate. "Joe" Mamma's steak wrap ($8.95) is a fine alternative to a burger with tender grilled steak, sauted peppers, onions and mushrooms. While it's nice that Joe Sent Me has a well-rounded menu, I have to wonder why anyone would even bother with the other entrees when the burgers and fries are so good? My favorite is the Hawaii Five -Joe ($8.50), loaded with pineapple, bacon, Swiss and teriyaki. Messy but it definitely falls into the finger-licking good category. The Joltin' Joe's Boilermaker ($7.95) is one of the best on the menu, a thick, juicy burger topped with BBQ ale sauce, bacon and cheddar. For a spicy twist, check out Joe Frazier's Blackened Blue ($7.95), Cajun-spiced and topped with bleu cheese. Service is often spotty but given the nature of the establishment, it can be forgiven--to an extent. Waiting 30 minutes for appetizers to arrive only five minutes before the entre is annoying. When I was last there, tables didn't get cleared until a newly arrived customer had to ask for someone to clean them off. We were happy when the customers next to us left so we could switch away from our overly-wobbly table. Yet, all those annoyances didn't take away from the fact that we left fully, and completely, satiated.

The service at Joe Sent Me is absolutely terrible. We waited for TWO hours for two burgers and a wrap to come out and another half an hour for my soup to come out. Two and a half hours for a soup!? I would have been able to deal with the slow service if our waitress had been friendly and accommodating. We were totally ignored after we placed our orders. I asked for a glass of water 3 times; I finally went up to the bar to get it myself. The food was pretty good once it came out, but it's just not worth the wait or the unfriendly and inattentive staff.

I've only been here a couple times, but this is a really comfortable bar/nosh spot. They have great beers, great music, and I love that they have a little table/bar thing where you can overlook the huge tvs at the main bar. I wouldn't call the service exactly welcoming, but they will do the bare minimum that they have to do for you. If service were better, they'd probably receive another star. I'm not sure I can blame the servers though because it seems like the bartenders do all of the serving as well. Or maybe I've just been there on slow nights. The food I've ordered so far has been awesome. The wings, both buffalo and BBQ are both really good, as are the amazing sweet potato fries. YUM! I can't stop eating those when I start. After reading the reviews I'm definitely going to try the fried pickles and maybe a burger.

This is the perfect quientensial neighborhood bar. The new TV upgrade makes it that much nicer to watch a game. The pub food is better than average, the staff is usually quite friendly and the drinks are reasonably priced. Trivia Nights are an added local bonus.

I can never find a place to play darts. I'm not even a good dart player, in fact, I'm awful, but I have fun drinking a beer and playing darts and trash talking my opponent. My friend Joe and I went to Joe Sent Me in Cambridge and it was exactly what I was looking for. It's a bit out of the way - but bustling inside. It's got a 20's/30's theme... yummy burgers... There is one in Waltham too - this one is a bit more centrally located and very crowded for after work drinks.

Raising my rating as I went last night and they had 1/2 price apps before 7:00 (I don't usually crawl into any bar much before 11:00, let alone 7:00) and the wings were wicked crispy as they should be. Got a great burger and the service was very good. It was quiet there so maybe an anomaly. I won't backtrack on my original review and I'll still pick Spirit for a place to drink and watch sports but some good, cheap eats to be sure at Joe's

After a few months of passing this place on Mass ave, I finally went in with a couple of my friends this weekend. I have been missing out! The lighting and atmosphere were just right. The crowd was a mix of mid-20s to 40s and quite friendly to us strangers and let me tell you, the battle for the jukebox was amusing. My dining companions and I started with some of their buffalo wings (sweet and tasty), they had wraps and seemed to enjoy them and I had the steak tips with roasted vegetables. Nicely done all around.

Um, first and only place I've had fried pickles. Awesome. I was totally disgusted by the idea previous to actually trying them - turns out they are really good. There is enough space that if you get there a bit on the early side you can get a big group in and take over one of the larger tables. Play darts, watch the game, get some wings, whatever. It's got a pretty nice atmosphere for such a small spot. The female bartenders have been a little surly at times, but this sometimes happen if you are from Cambridge and you meet other people who you dislike who happen to be employed at a place you frequent.

I've been twice now, and I have to say I wasn't impressed by the food either time. I had the peanut thai chicken salad the first time, and it was a solid salad, but nothing I'd be dying to order again. Last night I returned for trivia night and my husband had a pulled pork sandwich. Being a bit of an expert on Boston pulled pork sandwiches I thought this was terrible. It had an extra BBQ flavor and wasn't nearly as tender as Red Bones. The fries, and I am a lover of fries, were fairly burnt and just not that satisfying. Not a bad place for a drink, but I'd eat elsewhere first.

I love this place!! The wings are SO addictive that I am left each time trying to make up my own at home version of their buffalo wing sauce. Yet time and time again without fail I am back there ordering a basket because no one can make them as good as they do. Never had a bad meal here. Drinks are reasonably priced and its a great place to watch the game. We also love the Waltham location. The fried pickes are a must have!!

I went to this bar (probably the closest one to my apartment) with a serious hankering for nachos and big-screen TVs to watch the Sox game. Finding one out of two isn't bad. They have no nachos. This is shocking to me. I could also tell that the bartender is used to saying "NO" when people ask for them because there was no way I was talking him into finding some chips and melting cheese on top. However, the atmosphere, menus and martinis quickly made up for the lack of nachos. It's the perfect local bar to watch the game, and I'm sure it will soon become one of my favorite new "spots." Here's why... I love the setup of this place. Not only do they have the main bar facing the nice flat TVs, but there's a second bar/counter beyond that, in the space just off of the area where you enter, where you can see just as well. Plus, there are TVs all over the place! As a wannabe-martini connoisseur, the Joe Tinis quickly caught my eye. I went right for the Key Lime Pie, which involves a mix of Malibu, Midori and pineapple juice (ah pineapple...) and comes out looking like a mint-colored milk shake. This went down a little too easy. I had two in about 20 minutes. They also have those mega-sized drinks for groups to share and a good beer selection. Whatever kind of bevy you're looking for, you'll find something you'll like. Aside from the missing nachos, the menu has a great selection of apps, sandwiches and entrees. I tried the buffalo wings (very tasty!) and the fries (need to be crispier). I can't wait to go back for dinner to test out some more...

Tuesday Trivia Nights are pretty fun. The bar was at a somewhat reasonable equilibrium of not too crowded and not too dead, and people certainly got into the game. The waitstaff was a tad overenthusiastic with our table; somehow we wound up being served by every single waitress in the bar (3). It gets a little tedious to have to say "no thanks I don't need another beer just yet" every 2 minutes, but you can't really complain about that all too much. I was a little taken aback having to pay $20 for a pitcher of Sam Adams that only filled about 3 1/2 glasses. I guess I'll have to stick with Miller Lite next time.

If I could give it a zero, I would. Worst service I've ever experienced. I've been a few times for dinner and a couple times for parties hosted there and every time the service was terrible. Its the closest bar to my place but I refuse to go there. One dinner experience was so bad we didn't even leave a tip - the first time I've ever done that (and I used to be a waitress, so you have to be pretty bad to not warrant a tip from me).

Hey Joe Sent Me, You've got an amazing Buffalo Chicken Wrap but your kitchen could not be slower. What's up with that? It's always an absurdly long wait - even if there's only 5 or 6 people in the whole place. Generally a good experience and a good place to watch a game. Joe, fix the continual problem with slow food, and you've got a winner.

Excellent steak tips, good burgers, and cold beer. What more could you want? Well, perhaps a better seating situation. It is sometimes tough to get a table here, and there really is no waiting area other than the bar, which can get pretty tight. But other than that, this is definitely a sleeper that is worth checking out if you're in North Cambridge.

I always review places before I have adequate knowledge of them. Anyway, even based on one foodless visit I will assert that this place is a strong alternative to the Porter or Davis bars.

One of the my favorite North Cambridge hangouts! The bartenders are friendly, and make a kick-ass drink! If you're looking for dinner before the drinking starts, Joe's has great food. The grilled buffalo chicken salad is excellent. Also, you can't beat their burgers! The Boilermaker is a tasty treat! Give JSM a try...good times await!

Went here one weekday night for dinner/beers. From the reviews, I expected a lot more. Pretty mediocre, doesn't feel very cohesive or comfy, and the food wasn't very good. I had a beer I'd never heard of, but it was flat. NO thanks, Joe.

Great local bar, friendly staff. Wings during the monday night football games are only 20 cents each. Fully stock bar and fast service. Did have a hard time finding space during the Sox's post season game, but besides that, great joint. Wish it was closer to a T stop.

Coming from the dry badlands of East Arlington, this is one of the closest "real" bars and it is a decent place to hang out and have a few drinks. I find the food average, but it's easy to get a table on a weekday night.

Food was decent for pub grub, service was a bit inattentive but she brought our food and cleared our table some some points for that. Seems like a good option every once in a Blue Moon.

You can't go wrong with Joe Sent Me. Great turkey burgers (which is a major plus for us non red meat eaters) Big screen tvs for watching the game, take out for when you just want to eat at home and tons of yummy beers. And for those that are very health concious they'll sub fries for a salad!

Trivia night with friends. Bring lots of friends if you need help answering things that are remotely associated with weird, random star trek/wars stuff. I like the beer and really random "art trash" on the wall.

Joe Sent Me is the quintessential neighborhood bar. When I walk in, I feel like everyone probably would know my name if I was a regular. Food is typical for a bar, nothing fancy, not spectacular quality, but if you're looking for a fine dining experience, why on earth would you be at a bar? They have plenty of new TVs showing whatever main event it on that night. The staff is very friendly and is quick even when they're packed. The prices are average for the area. The only down side to the bar is their modest beer selection. They typically have around 15 different varieties available, and sometimes it isn't enough. It would be a 5 star bar if they had 30+ available (but, I'm a beer snob, so take this with a grain of salt).

I used to go on trivia night to Joe Sent Me, which was really fun, but it's a bit of a hike for Cambridge. The fried pickles are awesome, I've been meaning to try the supposedly amazing burgers, and the atmosphere is cool...

A favorite of mine back when I lived very close to it. Relaxed atmosphere. Great burgers. Good beer selection (though I don't drink it, my dining companions usually did). Their mixed drinks tend to be rather strong, which definitely gives you good bang for your buck. And the fried pickles are reason enough to go there. Even if you don't eat anything else there--get the fried pickles. I was skeptical at first about adulterating my pickles. But, one taste, and I am a believer. My only complaint here is, if you are not constantly refilling your drink, or asking the server for something, there are definitely times that they will forget about you and not bring your check for a long time. It happened more than once when I was there during not-very-busy-but-just-busy-enough hours.

Simply put, Joe's has the best burger around. They serve it a few different ways, but the regular cheeseburger is hands down fantastic. The spicy fries are very good, and sweet potato fries are darn good as well. The wings are very good but be advised that the Diablo (super hot) wings are so hot it hurts, and I eat a lot of spicy food. You've been warned. Beer is not too pricey (go for a bucket of them) and the selection is pretty good for those who want "good" beers (usually have an IPA or two, Sierra Nevada, I've seen Brooklyn Brown on draft. They have Magic Hat bottles). The bartenders are very good, the clientel is usually friendly, and the place is clean. Sandy is the owner, he is a good guy and you can tell he loves his bar. Oh, and HD TVs right behind the bar make this a GREAT place to watch a game.

Very casual neighborhood bar type of feel with a good selection of beers on tap. But, what makes this place special is the great pub food. Have never had a bad meal here, but definitely favor the burgers and fries. Watching what you eat? Try the turkey burgers - they're terrific as well!

Good bar. Nice place to sit and have a beer and relax. The bartenders are all very good at what they do-isn't that what makes a bar a bar.. I have had a few burgers and the fried pickles-all were great. Nothing wrong with this place at all..

It never occurred to me to deep fry a pickle. But let me say, this bizarre-sounding appetizer is TASTY! The rest of their standard bar-fare is pretty good too - and you can ask to have ground turkey substituted for ground beef in any of their burgers. Low key atmosphere, reasonably priced, decent beer selection. Too bad it is a bit of a hike from Porter or Davis.

Went for a burger and a beer last night for the first time because we live down the street. I will start out with the positives. The burgers were big the fries were good. Prices are reasonable for the quality of food. Now for the negatives. We sat at the bar because we weren't sure if we were going to eat or not and with such a small place with super low ceilings, the music was too loud to hold a conversation at the tables. The bartenders were not very attentive. They would rather spend time with the "regulars" than trying to win over new regulars to gain more business (sorry that's the small business owner in me). The food took FOREVER!!! We weren't that hungry going in but by the time the food finally arrived we were starving. The guy next to us (who was a "regular") ordered probably 20 minutes after us and got his food at the same time. Sorry for the gripes but we did go in expecting much more and as a local Cambridge business owner we are always trying to support small business. We will probably go back but won't be in too much of a rush to do it.

I first heard of this place while watch a Phantom Gourmet episode about the best burgers in Boston. Ever on the quest for a better and better burger, I went one night and was not disappointed. I got a bottle of Pabst Blue Ribbon and a cheddar burger smother with mushrooms and was a happy man. The place never got to crowded and loud, and the below review is correct-- it's a fun place to play darts if you are into that. Burger and Brew people-- this is what it is all about.

This place has great burgers and cheap beer. I've only been here on the trivia night, which can get a little crowded, but it's pretty fun. Dark and small. Buckets of beer! A bunch of tvs to watch the game. It is a little out of the way if you don't have a car but if you're in the area and want some good cheap eats, check it out.

I have spent a small fortune at Joe's over the last few years on countless pints of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale or large buckets o' beer when with my softball team or a large group. The staff is friendly and they get to know you if you go a lot which is always a plus, it gives it that Cheers like feeling. It's a great place to watch a football game on a Sunday with plenty of HDTVs, I usually like getting some hot wings to eat during a game which are some of my favorite in the area, they are very good! So are the sweet potato fries which go well with just about any burger or wrap. My favorite menu items are the boilermaker, the steak fajita wrap and the pulled pork burrito(if you're really hungry ). You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. They also have trivia on Tuesday nights which is always fun to test your knowledge of useless facts and pop culture. Joe's is a great place to hang out and have a beer.

Not a better, more authentic neighborhood bar in all of Cambridge. Their food is well above average, ambience is calm and relaxed, good music and friendly staff. I've lived in the area for 2 years and can't ask for a better bar next door. I highly recommend their salads, burgers and wraps. More importantly, joe sent me is always consistent in every way and that's what you want in a bar. One of my fav hole in the wall places in all of Cambridge.

Really solid food! I have only gone for Brunch but it was a great experience. I had the kimchi burger but with chicken subbed in and it was incredible. I've been craving it ever since! The make your own Bloody Mary bar is cool but I'm fairly inexperienced so I'd recommend taking your own look at it.
