Pizza is neither a great meal nor the worst for diabetes. All you need is some fact check and monitoring while ordering your pizza. Diabetics can opt for thin crust or skinny pizza at Pizza Hut and avoid the cheese topping to cut down on the excess fat and sodium. If you have diabetes, then ensure to check your portion size when you order a pizza. One or max. two slices are enough. You can also avoid meat if possible and go for wings as a meat option.
Foods to Avoid at Pizza Hut for Diabetics:
You must avoid Meat Lovers Pizza with Original Pan Crust as it contains over 1000mg sodium and will add 470 calories in your meal. You should also skip Super Supreme Pizza Large Original Pan Slice which is too high in sodium and fat. Chicken wings are often tempting but you must control and restrict yourself from ordering Traditional Honey BBQ Bone-in Wings as it can add up to your sugar levels if you eat too many. On average, a person orders or consumes six chicken wings pieces in a day.
Sides must be avoided at all costs especially if it's Bacon Cheddar Fries with Ranch Dipping Cup for its high sodium content. You must also avoid New York Style Cheesecake with Applesauce as dessert as one slice of this dessert item contains 86g sugar. Pizza Hut also offers other Italian dishes such as Pasta. However, you must skip Spaghetti with Meat Sauce and Meatballs and Garlic Bread as it is too high in sodium and sugar.

High Blood Pressure at Pizza Hut
Fast-food restaurants like Pizza Hut are not recommended to dine-in if you are diagnosed with high blood pressure. Most pizzas at Pizza Hut are high in sodium and hence you must stick to one or max. two slices of any regular size pizza to limit your sodium intake. Try out the salads as they are not only healthy but also keeps you full for a longer period. However, you must ensure that you don't order the salads without any extra dressing.
Foods to Avoid at Pizza Hut for High Blood Pressure
Avoid Meat Lovers Pizza with Original Pan Crust and Supreme Pizza Large Original Pan Slice at all costs when you order at Pizza Hut. Both these pizzas contain a high amount of sodium which can spike your blood pressure levels. Also, skip Bacon Cheddar Fries with Ranch Dipping Cup and Traditional Honey BBQ Bone-in Wings to restrict your sodium intake.

High Cholesterol at Pizza Hut
Whether large, medium or small, a pizza can boost your cholesterol levels instantly. You shouldn't eat more than one slice of any pizza your order at Pizza Hut. If you're concerned with your high cholesterol, then it is wise to take your friends to Pizza Hut and share pizza among them slice by slice. You can also try pasta at Pizza Hut but ensure that you are not adding any dressing or extra cheese as you order pasta.
Foods to Avoid at Pizza Hut for High Cholesterol
Keep your pizza intake to one slice to avoid high cholesterol intake while you dine at Pizza Hut. Skip Supreme Pizza Large Original Pan Slice as it contains a high amount of fat and the sodium levels are also very high. Avoid the desserts section completely to limit the fat and sugar intake. You can also limit yourself from ordering non-veg pizza and skip adding sides or dressing on your orders to ensure that your cholesterol is in check while dining at Pizza Hut.

The best Puerto Rican food in the state hands down. I am a huge fan of the spicy beef patties they are delicious! Also their rice and peas are heavenly so flavorful. I enjoyed their beef steak more than the chicken. I also like that they offer fish dishes. Its amazing you HAVE to go try it!

Izzys has been around for awhile. There food is pretty good. But I wish they didn't go on so many long vacations. Even though I don't go there much anymore, I would def recommend this place.

Homemade spanish food in a restaurant in a corner sounds delicious but unfortunately it was mediocre. I got one of the lunch plates and it was definitely worth the money but the food was very bland. The meet was extra chewy and the beans were greasy which was very weird. I would go back for a second try but it wouldn't be my first try.

Just plain awesome. As you can see when you walk in and by surveying the clippings and photos on the walls, Izzy's is a neighborhood staple. It's a super familiar and welcoming environment, and you can immediately tell how popular it is within the community. I've been meaning to try more of the menu, but every time I go there I find myself unable to resist ordering the roast pork which is soft and shredded, carnitas style. It also comes with a yellow gravy that is out of this world, although the pork has plenty of flavor to do without it. I've also enjoyed the pork chops which are thin and fried crispy, the stewed chicken, and a breakfast sandwich. Although they were all good to really good, the pork is my clear favorite. I'm a bit of a hot sauce addict, but a few times I've found myself regretting that I added one of the many hot sauces they have to the food--it honestly doesn't need it; the flavors are so dense and well-developed that the hot sauce can easily drown them out. All of the meals are served with either white or yellow rice (get the yellow), salad and beans or plaintains (fried or sweet). The sides are just as stellar as the main part of each dish. If you're in the mood for great Puerto Rican food or even just a quick hot sandwich, Izzy's is a must. I only wish they were open on Sundays too haha.

I didn't grow up in Puerto Rico but I really wish I did after trying this place today! I'm certainly not an expert when it comes to Puerto Rican food but this place really embodies the essence of the word "AUTHENTIC". From the guy who takes your order (I think the owner), to the cooler filled with unique soda's from around the Caribbean, to the awesome food they serve, everything has this obvious authenticity that can't be ignored. I work in Central and this place is a bit off the beaten path but it's well worth the trek. They have about four 30-min parking spots out front if you get lucky and plenty of cambridge parking permit spots surrounding Izzy's. I had the stewed beef with yellow rice, black beans and sweet plantains ($10.65). Everything was flavorful and perfectly cooked. Portions are big and the prices are very reasonable as well. I will be back...

This is my go to Puerto Rican place when I'm missing my papi's cooking I grew up eating rice and beans everyday!! I have been coming here basically my whole life, I grew up in Cambridge. While I would prefer to eat my papi's or my Tia's cooking or to be in Puerto Rico, this place is as close as it gets! I only gave it 4 stars because I don't love everything on the menu and there's some staples that I wish that they would sell that they don't (pinchos or mofongo). And sadly for me (but amazing for them) they are closed for about a month in December and July, as well as Sunday's. I normally like their fried or roast pork plate. The roast pork (pernil) is only available on Fridays and Saturdays. I like their regular beef party's, the chicken and cheese are a big hit at my house. I also like the stuffed potatoes and the plantains (both the sweet and the hard). Everything on the menu is worth a shot, while they don't work for my taste buds they certainly work for some of my family's!! There is only limited permit/meter parking so walk here, central sq is close by or just be aware that someone may need to stay in the car. There is seating, not much but probably around 12 snug tables. It's Cutely decorated with a lot of decorations on the walls and plastic table cloths. the family is friendly, hard working (there 6 days a week), and the father calls everyone Primo/Prima (cousin)

Again, disclaimer: The star rating is based on what I expect it to be and not based on what it is compared to other nearby eateries. Second disclaimer: I am used to very good, very inexpensive, high-quality ethnic food. You expect nothing less when you've grown up in the mecca of ethnic restaurants known as Queens, NY. So, take that into consideration as you read what I have to say. 1) The food is OK. It's good for its price, but it's definitely not as authentic as it could taste, which is weird, given that Puerto Rican food is never very spicy, so I don't know how much more they could change recipes to appease the mainstream public. 2) The serving sizes are huge. When I order white rice, I get enough to feed a family of five...and their dog. 3) The location is not super convenient. Did anyone notice that it says it's in the Kendall/MIT area but it's at the Central T stop? Reason why: This is actually in Area Four, by Fletcher Maynard Academy. 4) The chicken isn't very flavorful. I've had great chicken, I've had good chicken, I've had OK chicken, I've had almost-OK chicken, and I've had bad chicken. I've had almost all of these except for great at Izzy's. 5) Good & quick lunch/dinner 6) Very small, almost impossible to eat in, even if you want to.

I was in the mood for something appetizing and full of culture. On my way driving home on a gorgeous Saturday I remembered that Izzy's was on the next corner so my mom & I decided to stop in and grab lunch. We got the fish & shrimp combo, which came with beans and rice & I added a fishcake. The fishcake was a bit on the salty side but still delicious. Very tasty food.

The best place you have never heard of. Tucked away from the main restaurant square in Kendall, Izzy's provides that "home away from home" cooked meal. Note that they are closed on Sunday. With a variety of daily specials from safe to adventurous, recommend trying them all. Get started with the Friday and Saturday roast pork special. The pork is slow-roasted and extremely tender with a side of mustard sauce, yellow rice (or white if you wish, but pick yellow) and beans. The beans are hearty and smoky. Try a bit of the pork with hot sauce provided table-side. The ox tail (available Tuesday and Saturday) and stewed goat (not available on Wednesday) come in a casserole dish in a savory sauce. The ox tail is also very tender reminiscent of a blend between corned beef and brisket, served on the bone. The goat is served cubed and also on the bone. Both dishes are also served with rice and beans. If you are feeling most adventurous try the tripe soup (available daily) The broth is satisfying with potatoes, celery, and tripe. The earthy tripe brings a unique element to this dish, perfect for a snowy wintry evening. The Montanero plate, with slices of beef, is also a great value and comes with an egg and fried plantain in addition to the rice and beans. While the atmosphere is very casual, come here for a hearty meal prepared with soul. You might have leftovers if you don't want to clean your plate!

This is a great restaurant. Authentic Puerto Rican food. The portions are way too big. Lechon and Arroz con Pollo are our favorites. This place is always crowded but well worth the wait. The service is prompt and ambiance is great.

It might feel like you have entered Puerto Rico, the food might be authentic too. The staff was really friendly, nice enough to give me samples of the stewed goat. Chicken & Cheese Patty - More or less a mix of chicken and cheese in a marinate served in a piece fried dough. It was good, but most things you deep fry are good Stewed Goat - In the sample they gave me about half of the goat had small pieces of bone in them (half a toothpick sized). Maybe that is the authentic way to serve it but it wasn't really my thing although the meat itself was good.

My love for this place started a few months after I moved here from Puerto Rico. I was extremely homesick, and needed something familiar. Well as soon as I walk in, it hits me.The smells, the sounds, the decor...It akk screams small Puerto Rico town cafeteria, I loved it. As soon as the owner learns im Puertorican, he pulls out the bottle of coquito and serves me a drink. Yup. I love this place. The food is amazing, very genuine, and the service is great. I would really recommend this place.

When I'm in the mood for authentic Spanish food, I go to Izzy's. They are a steal compared to other restaurants that serve authentic food very similar to Dominican and Puertorican cuisine. They have special combination plates daily, but my favorite is their peppered steak plate with choice of rice and beans and/or salad (but I always sub for tostones or platano maduros). Jamaican patties are a must try as well! You get a generous amount of food for the price you pay. It definitely will fill you up; I always leave with leftovers!

Agree that it's a hidden gem (for those in the East Cambridge/Technology Square area). I have had the rice, beans, and salad (5 + change, incl tax) and beef patty and other fried treats. After checking out the photos I need to try plantains+ stew... A small place, but I have been able to sit in with co-workers. Makes for a pleasant "leisurely" (~20-30 min) lunch of real food. Also good for take-out. Family establishment and family friendly--I love that! Really great value for something that's not burgers, pizza, though you could get subs, if you wish. There's a TV that plays news and soaps... They accept credit cards for purchases greater than $5...but I can't remember paying by cc. At corner of Harvard x Windsor--highly recommended...but closed for Memorial Day on Monday.

Having only recently started working in the Kendall Sq. area again after a 12y absence, I'm overjoyed to be able to return to Izzy's, and even happier to see that they haven't changed. Yummy, large portions, reasonable price. Many others have discussed the details so I won't reiterate. I've been 2x in a week and expect to be returning about weekly, when the weather's reasonable for the 10m walk from work.

Their steak sub is absolutely abysmal. The meat tastes like its four year old reheated leftovers and the lettuce and tomatoes taste like sh*t. I'm not going back to this place.

Oh hell yeah!!! The plates are great, but I stick to the sides & mix and match. Food is fresh fresh fresh!!! Chicharones, empanadas (chk & beef), sweet plantains, rice all great. Love the food & casual ambience.

Ive been eating here since i was a child! 23 years of delicious Puerto Rican food. I love everything on the menu. from skirt steak, Jamaican parties, rice & beans, and stew chicken. they have become a cambridge staple. I love to see a wide variety of ethic groups enjoying the good food and atmosphere. The staff treats everyone like family. I love walking through the door and hearing the familiar "hola prima".

While I have never been to Puerto Rico, if the food that they serve there is remotely as good as the meal that I had at Izzy's... well... it looks like I need to book a flight there. Stat. Honestly, I went there out of convenience, mostly because my general practitioner is a block away from there and the Yelp mobile app told me about this spot. I had heard of it but had never been despite having lived in Kendall Square for five plus years. I walked into the modest looking place and noticed that the crowd was mostly blue collar, expats, who stared me down. Although a tad uncomfortable at first, the owner behind the counter greeted me with a wide smile and called me "primo" (cousin in Spanish). I relaxed. I glanced at the menu. I ordered away. I decided to get their montaniero plate which, I figured, would enable me to sample a wide-variety of their dishes. I also added a side of fried plantains because they are delicious. The plate itself was loaded with food. I could not finish it but ate it happily, stuffing my face quickly and only taking very short breaks to breathe. It was great. The rice was tasty and had beans in it, there was an entire fried egg, some meat which I could only identify as pork which was cooked with some onions and in some delicious spices. Really, all in all, it was great. The plantains were a bit overcooked but tasty none the less and I washed everything down with a diet Coke and felt like a million bucks. Great value, friendly service and a real hidden gem that's conveniently located between Central and Kendall square. I honestly couldn't have been happier about picking this place for lunch.

From the outside Izzy's looks like a convenience store, but don't pass up this place by mistake. There's some hearty Puerto Rican food to be had here. The small family-owned restaurant has a great homey feel and the ladies behind the counter were very friendly and sweet. Looking through the menu board, I thought the food seemed a little overpriced, but when our food arrived I understood. The portions are huge! I got the STEWED GOAT which was one of the daily specials. yelp.com/biz_photos/vjx_… It comes with rice and beans, but I substituted them for the platanos maduros. The goat was fall-off-the-bone tender and the sauce was so tasty that I regretted giving up the rice for plantains; the sauce would have been so good with some rice and beans. But I was comforted by the fact that the plantains were really good, not too sweet or syrupy. Izzy's is a neighborhood gem that I wish I had in my own neighborhood.

Don't even get me started with my fat self. OMG the food is so bomb, the lady staff is very nice, I absolutely love their homemade arroz (rice) con (with) gandules, tostones (fried plantains), pollo guisado (stewed chicken), pechuga de pollo a la plancha (chicken breast on the grill), the chicken and beef patties (empanadas), WHAAAT?!. Love it here!! 5 stars.

Izzy's Jamaican Beef Patties are the best!! Always served hot and tasty with a kick of spice. Paired with their selection of Guava juice, it made a perfect lunch. The first time I was introduced to it I became addicted and stopped by Izzy's at least once or twice a week. A few times I forgot about their annual vacation and was left craving the patty even more. I only gave four stars as opposed to 5 because I haven't really tried anything else on the menu. My friend loves their fried pork and liked their steak tip dinner. I also heard, while waiting in line, other Malden people gushing about their fish cakes, which typically sells out daily. The service is always friendly and helpful. I hope to try more things from them in the future if I can ever get my self to order something else besides the patty.

I'm no expert at Puerto Rican cuisine by any means, but I do know that Izzy's fare is pretty decent and at good prices. For dinner, my friends and I had the Fried Plantains, Jamaican Patties, Pepper Steak and Stewed Goat. Nothing was over $10 and the combo plates were massive. The patties had great flavor and were easily the star of the dishes with the pepper steak coming in at a close 2nd. I wasn't terribly impressed with the goat though - on the bland side with forgettable flavor and texture. I'm glad my bro and I split a plate b/c filling up on rice and beans (which were fine, btw) isn't so much on the top of my list for quality meals. All in all, an OK spot for cheap eats.

Brita F.
Really, Yelpers? We're cumulatively giving this place 4 stars? Listen, I like a mom and pop shop just as much as the next gal, even more so when it's ethnic cuisine. But this place just isn't good. I got the stewed goat, and it was tough and smelly. The yellow rice was under-seasoned and overcooked, and the chicken and cheese empanada barely rivaled the frozen variety. The only saving grace was that they are adequately priced, and give generous portions (though why would I want a lot of something that isn't good?). Also, their fried plantains were spot on. But that wasn't enough to save this place for me.

So good! High quality, cheap prices- the feel is more hole in the wall dinner, but the food more than makes up for it:-)

As authentic as it gets in Cambridge. This puertorican restaurant will have you believing you're back at the island. Highly recommend any meat (pollo guizado is my favorite) with white rice and beans, accompanied with some tostones. Pernil is also delicious, as is the mondongo and asopao soups. Service is outstanding; the family that runs the restaurant is very welcoming.

While visiting Boston, we came across this awesome food spot. This momma and poppa place is a cosy down to earth place to eat. The goat stew was delicious, along with the Tostones and beans. My girlfriend also enjoyed her pernil (pulled pork) dinner plate. I highly recommend their empanadas, they were so good we brought a handful back to our hotel. If you're in the mood for Puerto Rican food this is the spot.

The moment I walked into Izzy's, I knew I would be in for a delicious meal. This small, unassuming restaurant is a little off the beaten path, but those who find it will not be disappointed. The patrons were primarily Spanish-speaking, which I took to be a very good sign of the food's authenticity. Pictures of the dishes along the walls did not help my grumbling belly as I waited for my food to arrive. I ordered the stewed goat with yellow rice (a Friday special), which came with red beans and a side salad. The portions were generous but not overwhelming. The meat and side dishes were all perfectly seasoned. Salt and pepper unneeded. Service was quick and the staff friendly. It seems there's a new hip restaurant cropping up every week in the nearby Kendall Square area, so it's especially nice to see a down-to-earth place like Izzy's get props. This place won't score points for ambience, but the food will keep me coming back. Next up: Oxtail!

Izzy's Restaurant and Sub Shop has been probably the best Spanish food we have had since moving to Boston. The two of us ordered enough food for probably about 4 people and ate everything. The portions are huge and the prices are incredibly cheap. The staff was incredibly nice and welcoming as soon as we stepped foot inside. If you want great Puerto Rican food, make the trip to Izzy's and you won't be disappointed.

This is my FAVORITE restaurant! Have been coming here since before I was born.... litterally... my mom came here when she was pregnant with me in her belly haha. I have only tried three things on the menu and everytime I go I order the same thing. I get the typical izzy's plate with white rice and enyucados with the special yellow sauce. Definatelly not "healthy" if you're on a diet but it's absolutely delicious! The plate is so big that you can eat it for two separate meals! Honestly wish i could give them 100 stars haha

Love Izzy's. Usually I get the steak tips (yumm) and maduros (yummmmmm and you get SO MANY!). Last time the guy next to me had a goat curry and it smelled and looked wonderful. Definitely getting that next time. Super cheap and super tasty. I love this place!

Izzy's is located off the beaten path in Cambridge,on the corners of Harvard Street and Windsor Street near the MIT campus. We took a scenic route to get to it as our jerk off cab driver had a "selective memory" and forgot where it was. So if you can walk to get there you probably should do so...or hope you get an honest cabbie. From the outside Izzy's looks like the neighborhood family owned convenience store, and the inside is small with lots of Decor from the owners native Puerto Rico. There are only a few employees including the owners but they seem to know almost everyone by first name. This is definitely a place the caters to locals. We were a little unsure what to order so we decided to sample a few different appetizers. My wife Simone was suffering from a sore throat so she decided to try the Chicken Soup (Pollo Guizada). Our first app was a Chicken and Cheese Patty (Enpanada De Pollo Y Queso). This wasn't actually a patty whatsoever but a huge Deep Fried Empanada filled generously with diced chicken and sharp melty cheese. It was crispy, yet flaky and good. We then tried the Sweet Plantains (Platanos Maduros). In the future I would go with the fried as the sweet kinda just reminded me of a mushy banana. They were naturally caramelized but a little slimy and stringy for my tastes. Next up was the fried pork (Chicarron De Puerco). This was your basic roasted pork, simply seasoned and lightly breaded and fried until a nice crispy amber crust forms. Bacon like in flavor, this was my favorite part of the meal and also the most filling. As a side for all this food we went with a Rice and Beans combo with Red Beans and Yellow Rice (Arroz Y Habichuelas) The beans had a mild smokey flavor and were very good and the rice had tomato saffron overtones and was also delicious. Simones soup was noteworthy as it contained entire pieces of bone in chicken, good size vegetables in a light broth. Unfortunately she did fine a few shards of bones in the soup..opps. Overall we enjoyed Izzy's. Some items were definitely better then others but all seemed authentic. At just over twenty dollars, the prices were also some of the best that we found all weekend . Overall... 3 stars for Izzy's Restaurant and Sub Shop.

Yay for Izzy! I'm Puerto Rican and I've been in Boston now for 4 years. For some reason I never heard about his place until today. I've been to Veijigantes (which is fun for groups but the food is not great) and Oriental de Cuba (I'm a fan). Izzy's definitely has that Puerto Rican ambiance that I love. I went for the oxtail but they were out of it so I got the goat stew with rice, beans and sweet plantains. It definitely hit the spot and I left very satisfied. I'm coming back! Oh, and the owners were super friendly and chatted with me while rested after eating.

Fantastic food at really great prices, plus friendly service at the counter. I highly recommend the spicy beef patties, chicken and cheese empanadas, and rice and beans. I haven't gotten to try a fishcake yet, but it's next on my list!

They had me at Jamaican Beef patties. I don't know what else you could want. BUT, in case, you wanna be a jerk and want something else, they got PLENTY! Get the beef turnover, try the fish cake, go for the jamaican beef patty with cheese and if you're feeling extra special - order that with some coco bread. Ya not feelin' any of these, order a sub or dinner plate - can't lose. Ambience-wise - this place is good for a take out or a quick meal. It's not anything la-di-da, just simple stuff really. The servers and staff - great people. They greet you with a smile and ask how've you been and be friendly. Good people, good (cheap) food, great times. I'll always be back

Their food is VERY good. Not stellar, not out of this world, but still very good. I've tried their fried pork, the bistec encebollado, the morcillas, the tostones-- you name it. It's all quite good, except for the beans. Ugh, the beans, the beans, the beans. I am a picky eater, and those beans just don't cut it for me. But most of my friends like them, so I think it's just me being stupid. The owners are really friendly and nice people, and the place is very reminiscent of a Puerto Rican fonda. Oh, and it's pretty cheap too!

I haven't been back in a while, but I loved Izzy's and used to go almost every day. Plantanos maduros are always delicious. Sometimes the white rice can be crunchy, but not every time. They always call you primo or prima and make you feel at home even if you aren't Puerto Rican. They memorized my order and had me taken care of. The place itself is small but if you can get a seat it's awesome. The owner and his wife/family are sweet as can be. Empanadas and Jamaican beef patties are delicious. Worth a trip. Kind of a dive-y place, but definitely delicious home-cooked meals.

You really can not go wrong at Izzy's! It's a small mom and pop Puerto Rican restuarant where everyone is greeted as "prima or primo" (cousin in spanish). My family is from the Caribbean so I feel at home when I come here. There are PR flags (and other mini Carribbean flags) hanging all over the place. The walls are decorated with photos, awards and art that reflect the who the owners are as proud Puerto Ricans and proud members of their community who have always given back. The counter itself is decorated with money from all over the world so its always a delight to get a chance to try to identify all the countries! Since I'm a creature of habit, I always get their Jamaican beef patties and their Chicken-n-Cheese patties! YUM!!!! The Jamaican patty is always really spicy which is how I like it and the Chicken-n-cheese is so flavorful. Sometimes I'll get a side a of yellow rice and beans (in which I always ask for yellow sauce- go ahead and ask, they know what you're talking about!) and I am never disappointed! Considering that they are a Latin American/Caribbean restaurant I have never tried their subs, because really, who the hell orders a sub from a PR restuarant? I'm just saying. Anywho, it appears that they have extended their appetizers and even have shrimp, lobster and crab patties, in which I have had the crab. It was great and it was REAL crab too! But nonetheless, give Izzy's a try and then perhaps you'll understand why the rest of us go into withdrawal when they go on vacation to PR 2 times a year and shut down the restaurant!

My favorite place to eat. They have really good cheap food. The fried pork is really good so are the Jamaican patties

It's been a while since I ate here, but I saw someone else's review of Izzy's and it inspired me. I've had platanos at a few Brazilian and Puerto Rican places, but when I think about platanos, I think of Izzy's. Sweet and salty slices of awesomeness. I remember really enjoying the rice and beans as well. I would come back if I was in the area. Also, if they looked into becoming certified as a green restaurant by the green restaurant association, I would definitely return.

Izzy's is one of those neighborhood institutions I wish we have at home in the DC suburbs. We were treated like a neighbor, the service was very friendly. Food was very good, of the home cooked variety. I had the ox tail stew with a cup of the beef tripe soup. Everything was great. Lots of the neighborhood residents stopped by while we were eating to get carryout, and chatted with the boss and his wife and son. Would love to return again next time I'm back in Boston.

Good prices on mediocre Puerto Rican food. It's convenient enough for a cheap lunch, and might be pretty interesting to an adventurous eater who hasn't yet had PR food, but that's about all it has going for it. When I think of this type of food, I expect succulent meats, well-seasoned rice & beans, hot & crispy tostones. All too often, what I get is dry tostones, bland beans, watery rice, and meat with so much fat and gristle that I can't even chew it. And sometimes the food is cold to boot. Yeah, it's cute, and the people are moderately friendly (moreso if you speak Spanish), but that just balances out the dirty silverware. Bottom line, I love the idea of it, but hate the execution of it...but when the wife wants octopus salad, there's nowhere else to go.

I used to live in Cambridge and grew up eating at izzys. I started eating there when it was actually a bodega and izzy would sell meat pies, fried pork and Jamaican beef patties.( this was all 20 years ago) anyway, you can't go wrong, everything is good, we normally go for the food and not the subs. Get the steak-tip or fried pork dinner.

I would have to agree with user:Truereview t. The food here is bland! No taste at all for ethnic food. As far as Camies Bakery for Haitian food. Well read my review. If you eat there you will be eating more than just Haitian food. DON'T BELIEVE ME? ASK Camie's to visit the back of the kitchen where they keep the food and where the windows to the back of the kitchen are conveniently covered so you can't see inside! IM SERIOUS!!!

I'm Puerto Rican, first generation American; my parents came to the States when they were young, they were both born on the island. Growing up, this was everyday food, rice and beans and add something-else-on-the-side-here at least 5 days a week, not to mention the fabulous spread at special occasions. I've visited Izzy's a good number of times, and I'll say that the food at Izzy's is kinda like going to the house of a relative who cooks edible food, but will never be nearly as good as my mother's or my grandmother's. When I found Izzy's, I was all sorts of excited, because there are many Puerto Rican delicacies that I've never made for myself because we always went to the local bodega or lechonera to eat them, and I figured Izzy's could fill that Boston void for me. Sadly, not so much. I always have high hopes. Every time I walk in, the guy at the counter says, "Di'me, prima," as I stand next to the hot box of bodega-counter foods, and I feel a wave of nostalgia, hoping for something reminiscent of the delicious pigs ears or rellenos de papa I ate as a child. Sadly, however, I'm often disappointed. The rice is neon colored, at times a little over-watered (rice grains should *not* explode like that), and slightly under-seasoned. The beans make me sad for my people. The alcapurrias are nothing like the delicious, dark caramel-colored, pork-filled, avocado-shaped indulgences I begged for as a kid. Instead, they are lumpy, ugly, and dry. Tostones are often gigantic, but a little too thick to be crunchy like they should be, and they never seem to salt them as they come out of the oil, like you're s'posed to. Nevermind the chewy, stringy monstrosity that was the pepper steak my husband had the other night. I will say that the ensalada de pulpo (octopus salad) is really very good. The meaty bits are never chewy in that awful way, the peppers are always fresh, and the dressing that comes with it is really nice. But so far, this is the one thing on the menu that really, really speaks to me. Izzy's is good in a pinch, when a craving takes hold so badly, but I'm too lazy to cook myself.

Oh Izzys! Yes, you are, as everyone says, friendly, delicious and affordable. But, word to the wise, if you're eating there for the first time I'd come armed with some Tums... if you aren't used to really heavy food you may be punished by some major indigestion.

I'm not Puerto Rican but I've grown up eating Puerto Rican food and have been to the island twice. Izzy's honestly disappoints me. I find the food overly salty. The platanos are delicious, but it's really hard to mess those up. I did enjoy the atmosphere though. People are very friendly and the owners seem to be very in touch with local residents. I ended up spending around $10 on a meal/appetizer and drink. But the experience was just blah.

I could eat here every day. Thankfully, it's a bit of walk from where I live and work, but the food is that good. I dream about the roast pork. The maduros are excellent, and the rice and beans could probably be a meal in itself. Washing down a meal here with a Goya fruit drink or their home-made ginger beer makes it even better. I've come here once for lunch and once for dinner, and both times I've been struck by how the patrons really love this place. I've seen a wide range of Cambridge cops, locals, MIT students, etc. Many of the customers seemed to know the owners. My father still talks about how yummy his food was, and if my parents ever move here, he will certainly try to become BFF with the owners as well.

After having lived in Puerto Rico for 17 years I came to Boston to study, and study, and study. I roamed around the area thinking that there was no real food to eat here and I had to settle with pizza's or americanized mexican food. But soon enough I found Izzy's and I must say, this is good Puerto Rican food. I would say they are the best food I've ever had, but that's only what I thought because of how HUNGRY for Puerto Rican food I was. It was really good, but my grandma cooks better. Nevertheless, it's the best Puerto Rican food restaurant in the area (and the only one) and is definitely worth a try. Heck they even have 'Malta India' as a drink, they get bonus points for that. =D

Second time trying Puerto Rican food. Still trying to detect the differences between it and Dominican and decide which one I like best. No success in that department. Nonetheless, another place to add to my list of " spots". Tucked away in an area of Cambridge sandwiched between MIT and Central square is a cozy little eatery about a 12 minute walk or so from the Central T stop. Warm service and the inside decor will transport you to San Juan. I tried the saturday special of stewed goat- it came with the colorful arroz con gandules, stewed brown beans, salad and beef patties- and here was the catch: I wanted Jamaican patties but ended up with something more on the lines of an empanada. Equally tasty but apparently I'll have to specify next time.

Very small, family run business. Self seating and packing to go. Food was okay but their ready to eat patties are really good. Great prices...definitely can't beat that for home cooking.

Beats most things in Kendall so far. The sounds of salsa as I walked inside put a smile on my face. Played it safe the first time and ordered a chicken leg and platanos. The smells were great. A little bit of a stroll for lunch, but got back and had plenty of time to chow. I will definitely be back now that I have the menu. The good: extra crispy chicken, a full portion of plantains and a small salad - only $5. Unheard of in Kendall, right? The bad: the take out menu, menu at the restaurant and the special items listed behind the counter all said different stuff, so I had to point and shoot - of course, that's what they say about Chinese places too, the best dishes are always written on random pieces of paper hanging on the wall - next time I'll be better prepared. Summary: A perfect place for a nice day. Can't wait to see what's next. I hear they have stewed goat specials? It's on!

Me VS. the loyal lunch crowd that have been coming to Izzy's for years Who wins? devout patrons of this wonderful Puerto Rican mom and pop restaurant AND a first timer like me cuz' everyone is treated to great food and warm hospitality Stewed goat = A = buttery tender that falls apart with the touch of a fork, several large pieces on the bone swimming in a wonderful sauce, served with beans, tostones (savory plantains) and white or yellow rice Meat pie = A- = sinfully flaky crust surrounding a generous portion of finely ground and seasoned beef, didn't taste frozen Ginger beer = A++ = wonderfully SPICY and HOMEMADE ginger concoction in an Izzy'z bottle; how charming! If you want to avoid the crazy lunch lines, come a little before noon. Whatever the case, it is well worth it. The room is filled with latino and puero rican paraphernalia that lends a nice, homey feel to the dining room

My review, written in the way I imagine Fat Joe would describe my experience: We rolled in three-deep (me, my main man Jesse K., and Damon "The Third Man" I.) and peeped the menu. That shit looked tight! My boy pork chop combo was representin' in the combination plate 'hood, but Jesse "Ill Flava" K. scoped out the leader of the pack, the Montanero. Damon I. pimped out a chicken fajita plate. What? Bitch, I ain't got time to find the fucking special N with the curvy shit on top key, so just imagine that shit is there and say Mon-tan-yer-oh. That curve is smoother than the tramp stamp on your Mom's back, you know what I'm saying? So it's a fucking curvy N. Shut the fuck up. Anyway, we picked up some private label ginger beer because they were all out of Cris and sat our asses down. Fat Joe demands that the food be put on the table, you know what I'm saying? I didn't make millions in the rap game to get my hands all greasy carrying plates around. First they brought us salad. Fuck a damn salad. Salad is for bitches. The Third Man ate the whole damn salad and then later was bitching 'bout his tummy be full. That's what happens when you eat a damn salad. So next up was the main event. Pork chops was tight! They were greasier than Ja Rule's weave but that's OK with Fat Joe. Yo, I ain't normally one to admit defeat, but I gotta say the "Ill Flava" Jesse K. picked the fucking bomb plate. That montanero had some rice, some fried cubes of beef or pork or some shit, a whole steak, some tasty damn onions, fried plantains, and get this shit: a fried egg to top it all off. Jigga what? FRIED EGG. I know what I'm ordering next time I'm up in this. Damon had some tasty looking chicken fajita, and he didn't hesitate to man up with some hot sauce. Fat Joe gives Izzy's four stars for keeping it real with the Rican flavor.

I decided to come visit Izzy's near Kendall Square and it was quite good. I had the chicken with yellow rice and maduros. The place has a few seats available , and has a very homey feel to the whole thing. Sitting down were diners that work in the nearby buildings. The Rice was good ( a lil too wet for my taste ) . The chicken was very similar to that of which my grandmother would cook. The saragosas (beans) were very good also. I want to try something exlusive to this place as what I tried is generic to ANY latino restaurant. When your looking for a hearty , home-cooked tasting Spanish meal...this place is a should-try

I was looking for a new little nook in Cambridge other than one of the many Asian restaurants around Mass Ave and Yelp pointed the way to Izzy's. Although I've never been there, the place was just what I imagine Puerto Rico to feel like. A little cramped, lots of ethnic pride, and a wide variety of tasty greasy food. I went with the Cheese Stake and Sweet Plantains and was happy to find they offered their own bottled Ginger Beer. Although it's not somewhere I could eat everyday, it was a great find. One thing to note is that you order at the counter, then go have a seat, and then pay after the meal at the counter.

Whenever I go back to visit Cambridge/Boston, I make sure I stop at Izzy's. It is a great, inexpensive restaurant with a very casual atmosphere. I almost invariably get the stewed goat: very tender meat that comes off the bone in a yellow sauce. Together with their rice and beans, it is a great meal that always leaves me satisfied. I first went to Izzy's in 1994 and till this day, i am never disappointed.

Went here for the first time recently but my friend is a veteran. This is a great corner latin spot with good, inexpensive food. In general I am a HUGE fan of latin food, especially from mom and pop-type spots. The space is no frills but homey and the staff is really nice. We recommend getting the plates rather than the subs (my friend says the subs aren't the best but that the plates are great). We went in for a snack and got plantains, a chicken empanada, a Jamaican beef patty, and a drink for like $6. Yum. Anyone out there who has not had a Jamaican beef patty before is seriously MISSING OUT. I will be going back and sampling more of what they have to offer soon.

To sum it up, Izzy's a place to get some good food or as close as you can get to Authentic PR Food. Where else is there to get PR food around. Because of the atmosphere, location and environment. They cater on a fast food level, people seem like they want to be in and out with their food. For anyone who loves to eat you know time and preparation is everything when making a great meal. One day Izzy's will have a nice 5 star restaurant with full service and you will see the difference. If you ask me the Prices are too damn cheap!!!!, where can you get Rice,Beans, salad and Steak and a Drink for under $10...C'mon Son... You go to McDonald's and pay damn nearly $8 for a bullshit combo. Have some sense and really weigh the options here. I know the family very well and fully understand what they are bringing to the table. They been in business for over 25 Years! They Must be doing something Right!!!! Everyone has opinions and nobody will ever see eye to eye on Taste and Likes.... JUST WONT HAPPEN. And for the Hood Rat that made the last statement....think your wrong, the people there are wonderful and very understanding. Check yourself!

Izzy's is one of the reasons I miss living in Central Square. I still make a point of going by, for my PR food fix. I always get a warm greeting, great food, and a happy memory, when I leave. Their Ginger Beer is the BOMB!

So I set out to THE SPOT, my man A. Hamilton in my pocket. I order then browse the photos of happy patrons, sit at the colorful, plastic covered tables, sip a homemade ginger beer (excellent). And then plop down on a bench at the Fletcher-Maynard school across the street and start unpacking my brown paper bag because I can't wait to chow down the Puerto Rican version of a casado: lightly fried haddock, rice and beans, salad, a sauce with green peppers that comes in a small container which makes you automatically think that they're jalapenos (they're sweet) and plantains, in the sunlight. Then I box up the remainder and eat it for lunch the next day. Possibly the tastiest $5 meal in the city. The other meats are scrumptious as well. Need a snack? Empanadillas, baby. You'll feel wise having chosen this place.

thank you izzy's! finally, a girl who moved from washington heights to cambridge has found a place that has yucca, tostones, and chicharron that are almost as good as the stuff that i'm used to on dyckman street in in manhattan. it's taken me awhile, but it was worth it. the best part is u are only 5 blocks from my apartment.

After reading all the awesome reviews on yelp, I decided to go check out Izzy's for myself. Based on the recommendations, I ordered the pork chops with sweet plantains and the tripe soup. The bf got the roasted pork with rice and beans and the beef turnover. Everything was a little on the greasy size but quite good. The tripe soup had a LOT of tripe in it and was a little sour for my taste but not bad. I will probably try some of the other soups instead next time. The pork chops and roast pork was a little dry but decent. I think I will probably go for fish next time. I was very impressed with the amount of sweet plantains that came with my pork chop, which tasted fantastic. Beef turnover was greasy but good like everything else. And amazingly, all that food we ordered was only about $20. I will definitely return here from time to time but like Annie P said, it's not some place you can go back to all the time and be satisfied.

Love this place! Cute little place & cheap! I have only gotten the beef patties and fried plantains... so really that's what I'm reviewing. If you are looking for a really spicy beef patty this is the only place I've found.

The fried pork chop dinner, with a side of fried shrimp is my standard meal. Smoked hot sausages, beef patties, fried boneless pork, etc. All are great grab-and-go foods when in a rush. Mom and Pop running the counter are the sweetest.

FAT JOE went to Izzy's! They have a picture with him! That's what I always do to convince people to try it. Puerto Rican slam. Don't get me wrong... Izzys is so pleasing to the stomach.. but you really can't go back all the time and be satisfied. The first few times.. yes. After that, it's just what it is. Things get bland, soggy and you keep trying to get that first EVER bite. Izzy and Carmen are the cutest and best! Quick to recognize you. Seating is laid back.. plastic plaid tablecloth with tons of flags and baseball photos. Order the Combination Plate with either the - Steak (those onions are so addicting!) - 2 Porkchops (mix with the beans) - Breaded Steak (crisped nicely) It comes with Rice (yellow or white), Beans and Salad (THE DRESSING!) so you don;t have to worry about being hungry. Get a Jamaican patty or one of those turnovers to go. Don;t forget to pick up a manzana (apple soda) to go with it. Call beforehand if you're picking up. cambridgecandle.com/cand…

I love love LOVE eating at Izzy's!!! Everytime I come in here, I'm instantly transported back to my paternal grandmother's kitchen in Puerto Rico. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Ah, those were the days... But besides my personal nostalgia, the food here is undeniably AWESOME. Get anything off the combo menu (I highly recommend the steak) and you will be full of amazing goodness for days. Izzy and his wife call all of their customers "primo" (or "prima" for the ladies), which means "cousin" in Spanish, because they treat everyone like family. Even Fat Joe, who Annie P. pointed out does have an autographed picture with the owners on the wall.

Although I think the best puerto rican food is found in my kitchen, Izzy's isn't a bad alternative if your not my friend and can't get free food from me. When I lived in a kitchen-less dorm I would frequent Izzy's. It's very small Puerto Rican place in Cambridge between Central Sq and MIT. It serves fairly good Puerto Rican food...it truly is a Puerto Rican place...plastic table cloths...baseball memoriabilia on the walls...AND they close when the owners go on vacation to Puerto Rico. However it closes pretty early each night so I'd go before a movie and not after. In all honesty, it's definitelly not the best Puerto Rican food I've ever had...but I live in Boston, not Puerto Rico, so considering the circumstances it'll do.

What a treasure! Growing up in Cambridge, I'm disappointed now to say what a picky eater I was. Now, I drive over the river, during rush hour, to get to Izzy's. I now realize why a lot of my fellow Cantebridgians practically worshipped this place. Prices are phenomenal. $20 feeds three adults easily. I'm simple, the rice and beans, sweet plantains, and chicken and cheese patties are enough to make me glow with excitement. I always try to pick new items to try, and learn more about the great items Izzy's has to offer. The family that owns Izzy's takes two vacations a year (If I am not mistaken) I have made the mistake of driving over in January to be very disappointed. Regardless, the food is worth waiting for them to return!

I remember my grandmother walking us down here for lunch on many occasions. The Rice and Beans are so good. Being Italian I really have no idea what I'm ordering or what it's called but the fried pork thingies and the potatoes with the meet inside were awesome. The portions are large and everyone is very nice. They seem to go on vacation for weeks at a time but when they are there its awesome.

Just a dynamite spot, incredible value, everything satisfies. Stuff your face for $6. I know nothing of what Puerto Rican food is supposed to taste like, but I can say this is the best, and only, Puerto Rican food I've ever had. The family-friendly warmth in the dining room, and from the proprietors, is worth the price. I particularly like the chicken fajita combo plate and the savory plaintains, although friends have raved about the sweet kind. The hot sauce that comes in yellow tubes at each table isn't particularly hot, but it is pretty flavorful. Just a tremendously loving dining experience from start to finish.

Little spot just outside of Central Square is THE place in Cambridge for Latino food - mostly Puerto Rican style. Huge menu also includes sandwiches and salads, plus all the usuals like boiled yucca/cassava, platanos, rice and beans, stewed meats, etc. Great value, nice service, the wait can be a bit long at lunch.

Izzy's is a terrific find - popular with the locals, starting to be disocvered by a wider audience. The sandwiches are delicious and the prices can't be beat. Try any of the fried foods on display on the counter - you can't go wrong.

The best Puerto Rican food in the state hands down. I am a huge fan of the spicy beef patties they are delicious! Also their rice and peas are heavenly so flavorful. I enjoyed their beef steak more than the chicken. I also like that they offer fish dishes. Its amazing you HAVE to go try it!

homemade Puerto Rican food? you don't have to ask me twice right when you go in its so welcoming and from all the pictures from Puerto Rico it definitely has a homey feeling. absolutely delicious food the staff is always so friendly and the food is so reasonably priced! highly recommend this place to everyone!

Izzys has been around for awhile. There food is pretty good. But I wish they didn't go on so many long vacations. Even though I don't go there much anymore, I would def recommend this place.
(4)Mike T.
(3)Shocking N.

(4)Catherine R.
I like their originality food are very good & so tasty! The price is very reasonable. The people are very nice and accommodating. I like their selection of nonalcoholic drinks.
(4)Ana V.
This place is small but cozy and the food is sooo good!! I had three empenadas and a small salad. I ate everything. I will be coming back to try their combo platters.
(5)Court S.

(5)Cristobal C.
This is a great restaurant. Authentic Puerto Rican food. The portions are way too big. Lechon and Arroz con Pollo are our favorites. This place is always crowded but well worth the wait. The service is prompt and ambiance is great.
(5)Michael C.

(5)Peter D.
loved this place over the decades. i must get back.
(5)H M.
The place Not much to look at, to look at one small room , the pork chops are heaven, don't get dressed but if you want eat good food a must , pick a place to sit with your back to the wall,
(4)Jessica N.
(5)Jolene S.
(4)JB S.
(4)Keith M.
IZZYS IZZYS IZZYS. .Been coming here since age 10 and the price and good food did not change much. So many selections and the staff are so cool.
(5)Jon C.
Their steak sub is absolutely abysmal. The meat tastes like its four year old reheated leftovers and the lettuce and tomatoes taste like sh*t. I'm not going back to this place.
(1)William W.
Oh hell yeah!!! The plates are great, but I stick to the sides & mix and match. Food is fresh fresh fresh!!! Chicharones, empanadas (chk & beef), sweet plantains, rice all great. Love the food & casual ambience.
(5)Jay L.
(5)Jeremy K.
(4)Kai W.
I love Izzy's. I always get the same thing-Pork chops with red beans and rice with a side of sweet plantains. If you're doing takeout, call ahead. Prices are very reasonable.
(4)Kevin L.
This is one of my favorite places it has all the best Cuban food if you come here I highly recommend the chicken patties and the Jamaican patties with cheese and also. The breaded steak with rice and beansI am getting hungry just thinking about it so give it a try you'll enjoy
(5)Amy S.
(4)Alice B.
5 stars.
(5)Sakura V.
(4)Eric F.
(3)Brita F.
(2)Nadia N.
So good! High quality, cheap prices- the feel is more hole in the wall dinner, but the food more than makes up for it:-)
(5)Enrique G.
(5)Joe B.

(4)Zach D.
(5)Daniela A.
(5)Sari C.
Love Izzy's. Usually I get the steak tips (yumm) and maduros (yummmmmm and you get SO MANY!). Last time the guy next to me had a goat curry and it smelled and looked wonderful. Definitely getting that next time. Super cheap and super tasty. I love this place!
(4)Iknow F.
Chicken and cheese patties even the Jamaican patties are fantastic The Cuban is also good on fridays I think Been coming here since I could remember Everything is really good the beef stew just to much to list Try it and you'll love it
(5)Jon H.
Why do I love this place? $5 - cheese and chicken fried pie, empenada, jamican beef patty, soda. DONE. SO GOOD, just come here and get everything, they're so nice and they'll let you try anything.
(5)Andy G.
(3)Sheila G.
(4)Robin S.
Fantastic food at really great prices, plus friendly service at the counter. I highly recommend the spicy beef patties, chicken and cheese empanadas, and rice and beans. I haven't gotten to try a fishcake yet, but it's next on my list!
(5)Erwin F.
I'll always be back
(4)Milena P.
(4)Daniel M.
(4)Genevieve B.
(4)Anguel M.
My favorite place to eat. They have really good cheap food. The fried pork is really good so are the Jamaican patties
(5)Jace F.
(3)David P.
(4)reginald j.
this place is exactly the same as it was when i was in high school. super cheap and tasty. the owners make you feel like you are having dinner at a friends parents house. beef patties plantains and fried pork are world rockers are world rockers and the chicken stew will is exactly what the colder months were made for also i really like the south american soda options
(5)Corey F.
(2)Dana J.
(5)Qwertyuiop Q.

(3)Bridget H.
Oh Izzys! Yes, you are, as everyone says, friendly, delicious and affordable. But, word to the wise, if you're eating there for the first time I'd come armed with some Tums... if you aren't used to really heavy food you may be punished by some major indigestion.
(3)Timan G.
(3)Betsy E.
(5)Omar F.

(5)Yumiko F.
Loved their fried pork, meat patties, beans and rice. Do not forget to grab their Ginger Beer to drain down the fatness. Sausage was good too! Gotta go back to try more menu!

If you are looking for a really spicy beef patty this is the only place I've found.

chicken n cheese everything else comes after i still love this spot cant get enough

Cheap and ridiculously yummy.
(5)Christian G.
This Puerto Rican run family restaurant is ridiculously good. Handmade Jamaican Beef Patties that rival anything in New York, Florida or the US for that matter. Legitimate!!
(5)Bridget C.
Great food, good people, nice family. A lil cramped BUT a lot of times you will be sitting next to a cute lil puerto rock puro man! Somebody stop me I am a married woman!! Hey there aint nothin wrong with havin something nice to look at with a nice meal! Ya feel me!?!?!?!
(4)Srikanth S.
(5)Daryl R.
Great Puerto Rican food for cheap. 15 minute walk from MIT. My favorite is the roasted chicken with plantains, beans and rice. They also have ginger beer, and malt soda!
(5)Dave L.
delicious food..mmmmm....don't mind the shady look. this place is the real deal.
(5)Melissa B.
(4)HJ U.
Izzy's is a terrific find - popular with the locals, starting to be disocvered by a wider audience. The sandwiches are delicious and the prices can't be beat. Try any of the fried foods on display on the counter - you can't go wrong.
