I love Clover. All locations but this has become my regular one. 15 years a vegetarian (with a few slips) and I've travelled all over the country and Clover is in my top 2 or 3 places if not number 1 for vegetarian friendly food. Always super fresh, always new and interesting flavors and always great fast service. I've yet to have something I didn't like and even find myself liking sandwiches made from ingredients I don't normally like/ eat. They've been doing a great job for a few years now across their locations and I'm looking forward to eating there for a very long time.

Things I love about Clover: Vegetarian, Affordable, Close to work and now also close to home, YUMMY!, I always feel full afterwards, they have two temperatures of water on tap! their blog and videos! I love the breakfast sandwich, soft boiled eggs are delicious, I feel full, and it is pretty cheap. I love the chickpea fritters. I've eaten lots of falafel, and these falafel balls are super crunchy and flavorful. You can also just order the fritters as a side. I recently tried the egg and eggplant (I had been avoiding it because I don't like hard boiled eggs, and there are other excellent options) and I was pleasantly surprised. The eggplant was nice and salty, I avoided most of the egg yolk, and overall I was happy at the end of lunch. My favorite seasonal sandwich I've ever tried- the Venezuelan Plantain. Holy moly it's good. Sweet, salty, protein, crunchy, garlicky. I would like it to be less seasonal, more all the time. Also, they are so nice! They clearly train their employees well (or else it is just such a joy to work there that everyone is suddenly a friendly casual friend)

Avant-garde vegetarian. I wish these restaurants be everywhere- instead of McDonalds or Burger King. The food was amazing! I can't wait to go again!! If you are ever in the Cambridge/Boston area -GO, GO-GO-GO!

I love Clover. I love, love, love Clover. Last summer my goal was to try every sandwich, unfortunately I did not make it - but I enjoyed the process. My favorite sandwich is the egg and eggplant. The chickpea fritter is for some reason the most popular. Now, the chickpea fritter tastes good - but there are many better sandwich choices. You can get falafel many places, so go for the egg and eggplant. The menu is always changing, which makes this a great place to stop by for any meal. I love that they have carbonated water on tap - it is the perfect complement to these delicious sandwiches. The environment is fun and they have a large table where you can have meetings or large get together. The location is also really nice. Close to colleges, downtown, the T. Perfect.

Clover is one of those places that is so much the food I want to eat that it almost feels like I dreamed it up in my mind and it doesn't really exist. Whenever I go there, I look at the menu and think "how did they know what I want to eat right now?" Then I eat it and it is exactly what I wanted. It tastes exactly how I hoped it would. I feel relaxed and nourished. At least inititally you might think that it has a scary futuristic thing going on. I try not to remember which dystopian movie from the 1970s Clover recalls for me. Rather, I've come to associate it with the perfect fulfillment of my culinary desires and now have a deep and lasting positive associate with the whiteness of the furniture and the confusing screens.

Clover is a vegetarian restaurant with quite a following. I have to say the choices were all delicious and unique. It is quite crowded for lunch though.

I just came to get a banana soda. It took forever. There was a long line of people waiting for drinks, but no one was making them... The concepts of the restaurant is interesting. I heard a worker there say that they only have dessert on Fridays after a certain time to celebrate. No dessert available everyday since they were trying to keep people healthy. Anyways, the banana soda was okay. It didn't seem too healthy though.

I've been going to Clover for years and probably eat here about once a week. The food is always delicious, fresh, and is something I feel sort of "good" about eating. I especially enjoy how they rotate in different sandwiches depending on the season. It's fun trying out the new sandwiches, although sad when a favorite is retired! In terms of different sandwiches, here are my thoughts on the ones I've had in the last year: Chickpea Fritter- this is the classic Clover sandwich, and they have absolutely perfected it. Crunchy falafel, crisp and colorful vegetables, and a portable pita wrapping it all together. Hakurei Turnip- such a wonderfully balanced sandwich. There's the crisp slightly sweet raw turnips, a salty miso mayo, the sweet crunch of carrots, and some of the tastiest fried onions I have ever had. Would definitely recommend. The Enzo- I'm fairly health conscious, so when I went to get my sandwich and saw it was topped with french fries, I cringed slightly. That being said, it was a very short lived cringe as really anything stuffed with fries and provolone cheese is going to be delicious Pushpir- One of the few Clover sandwiches I found disappointing. Leaked about 1/4 cup of liquid all over the place(i.e. the table and my lap) and then was so spicy I couldn't eat it. I can definitely see how someone would really like it, but I wish I had been warned about the spice level Japanese Sweet Potato- I almost wanted to cry when I saw this was taken off the menu. My absolute favorite Clover sandwich I've had. Fingers crossed for its return. Breakfast Sandwich- poached egg, cheddar cheese, and a tomato. Nothing more, nothing less, and pretty much perfect. Tomato Sandwich- Wonderfully simple. Just mayo, lettuce, tomato, and cheddar. If you are a tomato purist, then this is the ultimate sandwich. This is the only Clover sandwich that I finished, and immediately went and bought a second because I didn't want to stop eating it. Hungarian Beet Sandwich- Absolutely wonderful. Beautiful beets took center stage. Walnuts and cabbage added a wonderful textural element. Overall, a fantastic place to grab breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee, or a snack. Can't wait to see what the next sandwiches will be.

Good place for a pour over or a healthy meal. This Clover has a much bigger menu than the other one I've been to. It's not a super nice place to sit and eat, but Clover is basically fast food so that's fine. This one also has beer. The chickpea fritter is great, but I don't know why its not called falafel, since that's what it is. More flavorful than you're average falafel shack with a good mix of veggie toppings.

A unique place for a quick bite to eat - simple menu but pretty creative execution. The menu lists breakfast sandwich but the friendly guy with a cell phone and coin belt will happily describe what's in it. Similarly for coffee - there's a guy brewing it a cup at a time, from two distinct beans. I came here for breakfast and ordered a popover sandwich - sort of like a crispy baked crepe filled with tomato, fried leeks, egg, and mushroom - totally delicious and not messy since they limit the sauce. As for coffee, both beans were from MA. East coast bean described as discovered by the inventor of Frappacino and had a grassy taste. The West coast bean was smooth and mellow so of course I picked that one! A fun place to eat - wish they had one in Bay Area. BTW they also serve microbrews and have water on tap (carbonated, chilled to precise temperature, and room temp). How cool is that? After all, much of their client base is from MIT!

Nice staff, nice environment - I'll pass on the breakfast sandwich in the future (didn't like the whole egg with runny yolk that's stuck in it) but I will go back again!

This Chickpea sandwich is delish! Looking for quick, delish, cheap, and healthy. I think i covered everything! We need this in Chicago! Its actually too much for me in one sitting. Im taking this for later!

I've been to a few of the Clover locations and it's always a good time. The food is always extremely fresh and flavorful. The staff is super friendly, helpful, and will answer any questions you may have. They pride themselves on having fresh, healthy ingredients and I applaud that. I also really like that they're sensitive about allergies and will help you find something right for your diet/lifestyle. I've had a bunch of the sides, the chickpea platter a couple times, and my go-to is th egg & eggplant. I never would've tried the egg & eggplant as I'm usually weirded out by the giant purple veggies, but they somehow make it friggin delicious. It's really hard for me to get anything else now that I've had it. Fries are good. Not out of this world, but still really good with a nice hint of fresh rosemary. Again, you want freshness? You'll get it here. The other day they were testing sandwiches and made a soy BLT. As I walked in, one of the employees asked if I wanted a free sandwich that they had just made but couldn't sell. Well, duh, I'll try it. I was blown away by how good it was. Fake bacon can be good? Apparently so. They use vegan mayo too, which is pretty cool. This place makes me happy. Anytime I go, my mood changes for the better. The people, the food, the great prices, and the open clean atmosphere....it just works. Yay Clover!

I LOVE THIS PLACE. And I LOVE meat so much.. So that's saying something. I come in for their breakfast sandwich a few times a week. It's so simple but so good. Everything is always fresh. Since it comes with one egg I get another on the side and pop it in. Add a lil siracha and it's perfect! I've also had the popover sandwich but didn't enjoy it as much. Their coffee is okay but I prefer espresso so not for me! I've had the chickpea fritter and eggplant sandwich for lunch. Chickpea is great! The eggplant one varies.. Sometimes it's a little too salty and the egg is too cold. Room temp is great! Everyone is super nice! Even at 7am. I also really like how they have 0 preservatives and use local farms.

This place is weird... I went there the other day in the location in Kendal Square and wasn't sure how to order at first. Turns out some worker will be chilling with there smartphone/ square register in the front asking you if you're ready to order, which at the moment, I wasn't but there seemed to be some sort of line I was cutting so I just ordered the first thing I saw that looked appealing. I also had to ask which tap was the regular water tap... But unconventionalness aside, I had the chickpea fritter platter which was alright, I guess. They were pretty burnt and the pickle to fritter ratio was disheartening (AKA too many pickles). All in all, only 3 stars just because the set up/ atmosphere kind of frightened me but I'd love to try some of there other stuff too (if I could work up the nerve).

All vegetarian, friendly service, and great prices. I LOVE love love Clover. Previously, my only complaint was that their menu options were limited and unchanging. BUT now that they've moved into their new brick and mortar location, they're testing out great new sandwiches all the time :) The prices are the most reasonable in Kendall Square. $6 will get you a heaping pita full of the good stuff. If you're lucky enough to stop by while the plantain and black bean sandwich is still available, DO IT. It is crazy delicious. I also really like the pushpir and last season's brusselsprout+hazelnut. As for old standby favorites, the chickpea fritter is probably the most popular and super tasty. Be sure to get the rosemary fries! And try one of their fresh, strong pour over coffees :D

  • Melody A.

This place was surprisingly good! Their most popular sandwich is the chickpea fritter which I thought was okay - it was a little cold and saucy for me. My boyfriend enjoyed it though! We also got the Japanese sweet potato sandwich wich (lol) i loved and would recommend! The Rosemary French fries were also a treat. I'm a crispy fry kinda girl and these aren't crispy. But they were delicious! You can definitely taste the ginger in the ginger lemonade. It was good, I wish I could've added a little more lemonade. But then again, I have a sweet tooth! Overall, this place is fresh, different, and creative! I would recommend grabbing a bite here. They're also open late! (They close at 11pm Monday-Saturday & on Sundays they close at 6pm)

Hip place, great food and amazing service! They offers us free fried because they said one of our baskets wasn't completely full. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a delicious, fairly priced meal.

Great concept that ought to be successful in urban areas. Had the breakfast sandwich and a coffee. Great flavor in the sandwich. Only down side is not getting egg in every bite since it is served as a whole egg. Still a great niche.

Alert alert alert alert this is a vegetarian place so take that into account before going here. I came here with Some rando girl from Rochester NY and she was so displeased with the lack of meat items that she ordered nothing besides fries. Speaking of the fries they are great. That girl I mentioned before liked them as well.

Clover is one of the few restaurants that I have encountered in Boston that have exactly what I need: healthy food, ample space for reading, and reasonable array of beverages. Food: Clover offers a variety of healthy and affordable dishes that are easy to eat if you are in a hurry. Their menu changes frequently throughout the year so it is nice to get to try something different. Service: friendly servers who are happy with any accomodations or requests you may have with your order. Ambiance: bright, cheery, and casual. I have noticed with this particular location, it does tend to get more foot traffic and very busy but its sister branch in Inman Square is less crowded.

Clover's brick-and-mortar outlet offers the food truck menu on steroids. Everything I've had here is excellent, although lately I've focused my eating on the seasonal sweet potato sandwich with salty, umami sauce. This morning I popped by Clover to pick up breakfast, expecting the same streamlined offerings as the truck. I was pleasantly, nay, elatedly surprised to discover a more extensive menu including oatmeal with fruit for $3. It was really good, obviously cooked from fresh and with seasonal stewed apples on top. I was eyeing the popover breakfast sandwich (it is ON A POPOVER), but my saner self prevailed. Finally, worth noting: Clover is a great quick option during the work day for lunch, even when the lines are long.

This is the restaurant from the future. I am not talking about the decoration but the entire concept. Wide open cooking area, wholesome, tasty, local ingredient, global menu, mobile cashier, all vegetarian, etc. I really enjoyed my food and stay here. I was eating breakfast and watched them prep for lunch and it looked so tasty and fresh, I came back again at lunch time to try. It was great. Really an awesome vegetarian restaurant which I did not even know was vegetaian. It was that good. I would have went there for dinner if I didn't had to fly out. For breakfast, I had the egg sandwich (poached egg!) with some cheesy sauce and they were great - very juicy and moist. I also had fruit salad which was very refreshing and sour. One recommendation would be to make it spicy! I also had their chick pea frita sandwich with german coleslaw. It was basically the best falafal sandwich I ever had. It had falafal, cucumber, cheese, spice, and may be some pickeled vege bits. I just can't describe the flavor well enough. It was like eating Spring. Coleslaw was ok. I will try their dinner next time when I am in Boston.

Why, I remember the days when there was only a Clover trunk not so far away from this location. The physical location is so cheery while still efficient like the truck. And now we have a place to sit (although depends on how many people beat you to it)! The ordering system is simple but cute, which is employees in front of their giant sign with point of sale systems just standing while the hungry form queues. My (everyone's) go to is the chickpea fritter and rosemary fries (rosemary and fries.... so delicious)... but I also enjoy the egg and eggplant and Brussels sprout sandwiches. I've never seen this Japanese sweet potato sandwich that was mentioned in another review...I need to try that one (am I blind? only have eyes for my regulars?)! The homemade sodas are also delicious! If that wasn't enough, read about their business mentality on their takeout bags or website to really respect/love what Clover's doing... which includes includes continuous improvement and honesty.

Awesome. I want to clone this place and open one in New Jersey. Wait in line and order from a dude on his phone. This dude wasn't just some dude, he knew what he was offering. Asking him questions about coffee and tea, he didn't hesitate. The coffee is a single pour and was a jolting cup o'joe, but so silky smooth. My loose leaf tea was wonderful. The food looked fresh and healthy, although this go around I didn't have the pleasure of partaking. The place is bright white, clean and modern with ample seating. They offer water three different ways - cold temp, room temp, or carbonated. That's just a delight. Definitely a great spot.

I was underwhelmed by the breakfast sandwich...tad bland and nothing spectacular - am bummed I was not in town long enough to try their other sandwiches but based on reviews will be sure to hit them up the next time I'm back around! Service was quick and efficient!

Everything is delicious and fresh. Vegetarian food never tasted so good. All of the servers are awesome. The ginger soda is the perfect complement.

Ordered the eggplant sandwich and got an eggplant that is both rotten and stiff like a rock. One of the most disgusting experiences I had in a restaurant. The apparent mess back in the kitchen explained how that happened.

    (1)
  • Elle W.

Sooo happy that this Clover opened! The breakfast sandwich is pretty decent (wish they melted the cheese more though!) I absolutely love the chickpea fritter -- both the sandwich and platter are delicious. The fact that they have no counter to order is a little odd, you have to order from someone with a cell phone. They might need to work out a few kinks... Aside: Pinball... random but amazing!

  • Stephen T.

Vegetables are good. And egg and eggplant tastes well. It's just has a feeling of missing something. Maybe the breads is little bit under baked.

  • Violet W.

Didn't even realize this was a vegetarian place the first time I came here. I got a chickpea fritter that time (which was their most popular sandwich) and have also tried their egg and eggplant sandwich. Their taste is hard to put into a category, but it's all very delicious and refreshing! Last time I went with some classmates and despite the number of people there, our orders all came very quickly. The workers are all very cheery and friendly.

    (5)
  • Cynthia G.

I used to love Clover's Brussels sprouts sandwich. It had an amazing sauce and whole toasted hazelnuts in it and was truly delicious. Unfortunately, they stop making it a little while ago and I have since then discovered that if you do not like chickpeas, there is basically nothing else to eat there... The menu is quite small and not very diverse, but if you like middle eastern food, including lots of humus everywhere, coriander and falafels, you should enjoy more than I do. A special mention to the Rosemary French fries which are just delicious. The team is also incredibly friendly and I like the general concept of a few items mixing up crazy favors. If they could diversify their cuisine, I would maybe stand a chance to enjoy it!

  • Emily S.

As an MIT student, I'm guilty of coming here way too often. Gone are the days of having to wait in the rain at the truck if you want a Clover sandwich (although I admit there is some nostalgia for back when sandwiches were $5 at the truck). Like at least one other reviewer has said, your order will come out in "pieces", with the fried items taking longer, since they start frying only after you've ordered. It's a little annoying when eating with other people but not a problem if I'm eating alone, since I'm the type of person who's perfectly content with eating dessert before the main course. It does get pretty crowded around peak lunch hours, but they're usually pretty fast at processing orders. The employees are friendly, and they've never messed up my requests for drinks without ice or fries without added salt. Some of their culinary experiments have fallen flat, but you can't go wrong with the "staples", i.e. chickpea fritter, egg and eggplant, BBQ seitan, rosemary fries, etc. The breakfast options are also great, but note that breakfast is only served in the morning.

  • Aakriti J.

A bit on the expensive / hype side, but still a good all-vegetarian menu. They really go big on their "food truck vibe" but I kinda wish they had plates and like forks cuz the sandwiches can be a bit hard to eat sometimes. A good one-time go place !

  • Erica D.

Go-to lunch place. Good amount of taste, vegetarian, and decently priced. Egg and eggplant is my usual sandwich, filling yet light because of the tomato and cucumber salad, love the tahini. Chickpea fritter is also good, but I'm not sure why they don't just call it a falafel. Rotating sandwiches are a hit or a miss, though I LOVED the Japanese Sweet Potato and Brussel Sprout and was super upset when they retired. Although it's on the pricey side, Clover also has really good drip coffee, and usually pretty good soup! Try a sample first before ordering. My one complaint is that I've tried multiple side salads, and have disliked all of them. I also think their breakfast is wayyyy overpriced for what you get (a pita with a slice of cheese and tomato with an egg for $3. what.).

    (4)
  • Wendy G.

Why is this place so good! I think I formed a dependency on Clover. I frequently wonder how a bunch of random things stuffed inside a pita pocket can taste so delicious... My favorite is the Japanese Sweet Potato. HOPE IT NEVER LEAVES THE MENU. The Brussle Sprout sandwich is also really delicious. I often crave their sandwiches for lunch and dinner. I also get my CSA from here. People working here are always so friendly! I love how late they stay open, that they serve yummy coffee, have a lot of seating space, and have wifi! Only think I wonder about is what is in their mayo since they don't make their own...

  • Yukiko S.

I thought the food was really good but after the first few bites of the egg 2 eggplant platter I couldn't enjoy it because the food was pretty salty. The eggplant, the hummus, and the bean salad was the saltiest. I should have gotten the bread for another dollar to alleviate the salty experience. Maybe people like their food salty? However, the food is very fresh.

  • Stefanie Y.

I stopped by Clover again, this time for dinner. Though the place was quite busy (most seats were filled), the service was friendly, my egg and eggplant sandwich was well-assembled and delicious, and the atmosphere, though more bustling, was just as charming as I remembered. In my last review, I mentioned some concerns about hygiene practices - the open kitchen format and their cute herb wall shows that Clover really values producing clean good food, which was evident today, even with the dinner rush. The eggplant in my sandwich was savory, its saltiness nicely tempered by the chickpea mash and hardboiled eggs. The only thing is that my friend's order came out super fast whereas mine took a while. Understandable though - it was quite busy. Overall, I'm really glad I came back and gave this place a second shot.

Just happy there are people who want to make good food. Local, healthy, amazing. Need a a fizzy fix...Try the house made soda. Sammys and fries are good, fresh salads. Mmm

My hands down lunch spot when I worked in the Kendall/MIT area. I have fallen hopelessly in love with their many seasonal sandwiches, and most of their permanent ones too. Chickpea fritter and BBQ seitan are some classic unbeatable options. Japanese Sweet potato is another extraordinary option. If you need a small snack, just have their falafel balls with hummus for $3.

  • Lesley C.

Passed by the other day while I was in town and was overall satisfied but not impressed by any means. Maybe it was because it was over-hyped for me, but I wasn't flabbergasted by the quality of the food at all- and I had the two most popular items: rosemary fries (merely average fries) and chickpea fritter (fairly good, but again, not impressive). With that said, the place has a pretty cool vibe and the workers are extremely nice, and I appreciated that a lot. Also, the prices were pretty reasonable- $8 for my entire order.

    (3)
  • Charlotte G.

Great place for vegetarian/vegan options in a fun environment! Either sit down or to-go, the food is well-priced, delicious and fresh. If you are vegan, one of their popular sandwiches the Barbecue Seitan can easily be "veganized" and the sauce is to die for! (The sauce is also great for dipping their rosemary fries in btw... Just saying!) The staff knows the food and can help you navigate the menu if you have any dietary constraints. My only warning... If you go during the lunch rush, be prepared to join the hustling crowd- their ordering system is pretty fast paced for a newbie and could be intimidating. Just remember that it's worth it!

  • Tsachi A.

Thus place gets a 5 stars rating for food, but 3 stars for organization. They may have moved out indoors, but still run it as a food truck. Your order comes out in pieces, depending on what you order. Thus can be annoying if you're by yourself, for example getting the fries 5 minutes after finishing your sandwich. Thus is really bad if you are with company. Trying to have three people eat together is practically impossible at rush hour. In terms of food: The chickpea fritter (falafel) is great. The side of rosemary fries is amazingly good and worth the extra calories. Other food is also very good, I haven't had anything here that wasn't fresh.

Pricing: Good. Easy lunch with a fairly good price. Quality: Good-Excellent. Everything tasted so healthy and organic! Turnaround: Good. Watching the chef cook right in front of us was nice. Service: Good. Love the smiling servers. This place is comparable to other lunches places, but the murderous omnivore in me is asking, "Where is the meat?!" When did vegetables start costing the same as meat? However, disregarding that detail, the food here is very top notch. Given that my friend and I were never vegetarian to begin with, we opted for the easy route and picked what Yelp suggested, chickpea fritters and rosemary fries. The chickpea fritters reminded me of falafels, which is technically what it is, and they were fried to a good texture and consistency. Flavor was a bit fusion mixing traditional Halal flavoring with Americanized additions like bean sprouts. The rosemary fries were a bit overdone and were dark like they were using old oil, but this may just be that they were using healthy organic oils that tend to burn quicker. The rosemary gave a good flavor, but they themselves are incredibly stiff and hard, forcing me to pick them out. The turnaround was fine especially since we can see the chef make our food so the wait feels not too bad. Service was also adequate and I always appreciate the ones who smile a lot to help brighten the day.

It's amazing how this food truck has gone to having several brick & mortar spots now. Good for you Clover for expanding & being able to get some other places around town. People flock to this place at all hours & it's pretty damn good. There are vegetarian choices of salads, sandwiches, beverages & it is all so damn good. Since things are done locally it makes it better to spend money there. They also compost which is an added bonus as well. Not everyone does their part as much as Clover does & others should use this as a model.

Not many places on Yelp average 4.5 stars from a large number of reviews... But this place does and we found out why! This is the Clover Food Lab by the Kendall Sq/MIT stop. The food was delicious and very affordable. They don't accept tips but they are a very cheerful bunch. You order from a guy with a device under the menu displays. He can make change for cash or take a credit card. It is a small menu but the platters are filled with all kinds of textures and flavors of food. We had the chickpea platter, the mixed sampler platter, a homemade ginger drink, a decaf coffee and two breads. Everything was sublime, even the decaf coffee! You order then grab a table and wait for your name to be called. We will definitely go again. Great place to take vegetarian friends.

In true MIT fashion, the people here are passionate about what they do. The guy taking my order got all starry-eyed describing the heirloom tomatoes for their seasonal tomato sandwich, and pointed them out to me with the reverence of a modern saint passing by. Good afterglow talking about the house-made jalapeno soda too. After that persuasion, I've had the tomato sandwich twice before its rotation ends, and it is delicious (I love tomatoes). I like their small menu and the idea of fresh, local, down-to-earth food. Definitely check it out, but I'd pass on the rosemary fries. They are just fries with a little rosemary sprinkled on top. Who knew?

  • Helena Q.

OK, now having tried the rest of their sandwiches -- I'm going to add a star because the panelle is AMAZING. The panelle is large enough that you get a bite of it every time (unlike the inconsistent bites of the other sandwiches, where sometimes you couldn't bite through the entire thing and a whole falafel would come out etc). The panelle itself is so nice and creamy and quite filling, while the other vegetables add some crunch. It's still a little sour (WHY), but now it's not overwhelmingly so. To my immense sorrow, I learned today that today was the last day it would be available. Sad, but maybe one of the later sandwiches will be as good... none of the current ones are repeat purchases for me. I don't regret buying them, just don't really love them.

Clover's menu has never failed to impress. Put that grub in a brick & mortar whose design-forward glass and metal facade lacks both brick and mortar, then add a pinch of Pushpir's Guru The Caterer magic, and well sire, five hearty stars. Fried paneer tossed with a chaat of chickpeas, pickled onions and cabbage with fresh chiles, and topped by the herbaciously powerful combo of cilantro, mint and jalapeño chutney. The tongue's salvation comes from a cooling tamarind/yogurt crema that soothes the potent spice of the very present jalapeño. Every ingredient has its place, which happens to be in my mouth. So, like, get there, sandwich. Now. You'd think the crunchy, tannic jicama slaw would fan the flames, but guess what? They've spiced it up as well. Still, jicama, and jicama is just incredible as a slaw base. Get a side of this wünderfüd always and forever. Carrot lemonade? Kids will drink their veggies. So will adults. Especially adult kids. And for those of you camping at the limited four-tops with your laptops during the lunch rush, please get a clue. It's a restaurant first, a cafe second and your study lounge last. Show social awareness, and GTFO when the masses pack.

Fantastic. I saw a good range of people in there, from families to older folks. Definitely would recommend; and if you're vegetarian/vegan you MUST go here at least once

Delicious sandwiches, cheap, fast, healthy, and the staff members are friendly. I wish I lived near here, I'd probably eat here all the time.

The food is amazing and also their sodas, the only thing I would add it's to put their sandwiches on plates because it can get a little messy

Super friendly employees that smile and listen. The coffee is brewed right in front of you as you order it (and tastes amazing), and the "popovers" are a seriously tasty fluffy, light, doughy treat. I'm going there whenever I'm in Kendall from now on. Oh, and I'm not a vegan; I didn't even know it was a vegan place until I came on here to review them. Go get your healthy on, carnivores.

Trying too hard or not trying hard enough, Clover manages to do both. In essence, my enthusiasm and appreciation for the chickpea fritter has declined rapidly. "It's a falafel, people," as my friend likes to tell me. This is what I think everytime I walk by the strangely stylized industrial space that Clover occupies and watch people eating here. You could imagine that a place like Clover, if it lived in San Francisco, would have fresh-tasting and creative offerings, going beyond the let's throw a bunch of vegeterian items into a pita and see what we get. Instead, the meals end up tasting like standard fare and the industrial and fluorescent atmosphere with the rather strange assembly-line process of food preparation only amplifies that feeling. All of that being said, it's nice to have a place where you can just pick up "fast-food" in Kendall Square - certainly the only place to get decent french fries on-the-go. I want Clover to be so much more than it is. The concept overall is great but the execution falls short.

Sort of an unusual little place with enjoyable breakfast foods. We enjoyed the warm popovers and the fruit iced tea. Oddly they don't sell bottled water.

I was really happy with the good and the service. They have a very smart system of getting people through with their order very quickly. It is very busy, but the wait is very respectable. Very efficient. Chickpea fritter sandwich is very tasty Second time I went back the sandwich was overly messy. I threw most of it out.

Amazing! That was my first impression of this funky place. My husband and I were in need of some breakfast as we walked early morning at Cambridge. We stopped in front of this glassy spot named Clover. I rushed to check what yelpers said about this place. Having received almost 5 stars, we didn't hesitate to enter and approach the counter. Being a tourist, I honestly told the waiter (or maybe the owner? Because he looked authoritative to other staff yet nice). I told him bluntly that it was my first time and didn't know what to order. He explained it very informatively and nicely. I then ordered a popover with tempeh, mayo, salad and tomato as my breakfast! It was a very good choice. If I were an MIT student, I would come here for a quick yet scrumptious breakfast and lunch! Thank you, Clover! You made our first morning at Cambridge so delicious and unforgettable!

Had lunch with three friends here today. Though I am definitely not a vegetarian, I was impressed with the wholesome, reasonably priced food (four of us had lunch, including drinks and a shared rosemary French fries, for $50). I tried the BBQ seitan (the veggie wheat meat) in pita, and portion was filling (not convinced seitan is as tasty as pulled pork, but it was worth trying). Order-taker was quite attentive and offered to bring our food out to us. Everyone enjoyed, and also appreciated how clean the restaurant was. Would highly recommend as nice step up from food truck!

Here's the thing about Clover, you read all about the food on their website ( cloverfoodlab.com/food ) and you think, wow, these guys are really innovative in the way they use local ingredients and claim to take pride in the specific locally sourced ingredients, beers, and teas they select. They claim to be always changing and adapting the menu, and how their employees are keen on tasting the food to make sure everything is *just* right. Maybe that's bs....maybe I just had a mediocre experience...maybe it was the location I visited....but i was not at all impressed with what was essentially a cucumber sandwich ....the strawberry lemonade is another story, but I'll get to that later. We stopped by here on a Saturday afternoon and the place was empty -- not only of people, but also stripped down in may other ways as well -- they have no register, the walls are sterile hospital white, the floors are concrete, the lights are florescent. Sitting at the "bar" the kitchen is right there - however not much was going on there, we stared at a stack of storage bins. There were about 4 or 5 employees working there, they were polite and got us our food in a timely manner. The girl in the front - whose job it is to approach you to take your order seemed a bit awkward with us - I'm not sure what the purpose of doing away with the counter and cash register is, but it made me feel uncomfortable and rushed. I ordered a Strawberry Lemonade and a Pimento Cheese Cucumber Sandwich. Reading back on their website its described as -Grafton cheddar, mayo, capers, fresh dill, chopped bell peppers, thick slices of cucumbers, Aleppo pepper, and pickled celery in a pita, which in theory sounds good. Unfortunately what I got was a sandwich with all the cheese sauce tucked in the bottom of the pita, and plain cucumber slices towards the top...along with a few pieces of pickled celery - totally unbalanced. so much for tasting everything in each bite. Overall, very disappointing. The Strawberry Lemonade however was amazing -- definitely a must try. I was planning to get a beer --they only had two draft selections, a Pretty Things beer and an IPA -- both looked good and were different from the standard draft selections you see here in Boston, however after spending $3 on that lemonade, I opted out. Overall, it was close to $25 for the two of us to eat here. Not super pricey, but not super cheap either. Honestly, I wasn't impressed by the restaurant or the food. However, I've been reading through their website and blog, and it seems like they really put a lot of love and passion into their business. It makes me want to give them another chance -- perhaps a different location --- and a different sandwich (yes, maybe I didn't get the pimento cheese sandwich if it's a southern thing). Two Stars for the strawberry lemonade. Better luck next time.

Came here with my sister and her friend. My sister and I split the egg and eggplant and chickpea fritter sandwich. Her friend had a bbq seitan plate. I LOVED the egg and eggplant. Now, I'm a girl who loves her meat, but I was pleasantly surprised how good this sandwich was and how full I was after. My sister preferred the chickpea fritter, but I was completely sold on the egg and egg. The eggplant was soft and cooked just right and there is a whole boiled egg sliced into maybe 6 or 7 pieces. There's also a little salad of cucumbers and other things to make the sandwich deliciously complete. Her friend liked the bbq seitan, but I didn't get a chance to try it. It looked quite delicious so I may have to try that next time.

I swung by on opening day as this location is right near where I live and work. The space replicates the familiar Clover look; sleek, rather stark and very open. You see everything being done/ made. The large windows facing towards the street look right across to the location of their original food truck, which is kind of cool. and if you work for Google, no need to go outside. Very, very appealing on cold rainy days or in the middle of a raging snow storm. Seating consists of stools for solo diners, a large community table and some smaller tables for couples. (If you have back problems, this may be tough for you, as the seating options are all backless.) The first day was a "pay what you want" party, with the proceeds going to a local charity, and that was nice. It was crazy time when I went, but that is to be expected on an opening day. They are offering the usual Clover fare, but the word is that they will do some more experimenting here. I really do hope so. I am a fan of Clover, but I wish they'd expand the menu and somehow tweak their ordering system so that I do not get one part of my meal ten minutes after another part. (If I hear my name being called.) This location is right in the heart of Kendall Square, next to the T-stop, the Marriott, Legal Seafood, and the MIT Coop. (Not to mention the dreaded food court.) It's super convenient and open 7 days a week. (More limited hours on Sunday.) Happy to have new neighbors.

Friendly fast and fresh. I love this place. Get the chickpea fritter pita and rosemary fries. The handmade sodas are amazing and try a specialty whoopie pie for dessert. I'll be back, Clover. Very reasonably priced, and Eclectic ambiance, as well. I love the massive solid rustic wood tables.

Clover is great. I always eat lunch here if I'm at Kendall Square. The sandwiches are delicious, filling, and relatively inexpensive for Boston, the staff is really friendly, and it just has a really unique feel. The Chickpea fritter is my favorite. I will say that eating the sandwiches can be a very messy experience at times. I've gotten a few that were just dripping and oozing with sauce so there was no way I could eat them without looking like a total slob and they got soggy about halfway through.

  • Sam C.

Clover never ceases to amaze me. The food is always so fresh and the staff is super friendly. The most popular meal is the chick pea fritter, and for good reason. The fried-to-perfection falafel with the smooth hummus spread perfectly balances the blend of cucumber and tomato salad, house pickles, carrots, onions and shredded beets. I could never get sick of this meal. If you get lucky, they sometimes serve the Hungarian Beet Sandwich which is just as delicious as the chick pea fritter but for so many different reasons. Vegetarian and extremely experimental through and through, Clover embodies the idea of Cambridge's up and coming personality perfectly.

I didn't realize this was a food truck until I arrived. Both sandwiches were awesome, especially the BBQ soy. It's tough to beat with the prices too.

I have become totally obsessed with this place and go at least once a week. For breakfast -- you can't beat the prices. $2 for a tasty muffin or $3 for oatmeal with fruit or a breakfast sandwich (mini pita, cheese, soft boiled egg, and tomato). There are other options, but those are the ones I've tried and they've all been delicious and filling. The coffee (iced or hot) is great too - definitely quality beans. For lunch -- I've enjoyed all the sandwiches, but their classic chickpea fritter sandwich is my fav. It's basically falafel; I'm not sure why they don't just call it that? Anyway, the falafel are tasty and all the other good stuff in the sandwich takes it over the top. The eggplant and egg is another favorite, which has an absolutely killer sauce. And I really do not understand how they get the brussels sprout sandwich to taste so good without bacon! It's awesome. If you don't want bread, you can order most of the sandwiches as a "platter," which means all the sandwich fillings laid out in a container + 2 little side salads. A nice, slightly lighter option. Don't miss their fruit sodas...really a treat. My only complaint is they don't serve dessert! I would love the option to pick up a brownie on the side.

Clover is great. Vegan food with good flavor, some nice local beers on tap, pretty straight forward. However, they should have stuck with the food truck only. The actual location just seems sterile and boring. Not to mention the staff looked pretty depressed. 4 stars because the food was fantastic.

    (4)
  • Jason D.

Excellent, nearly every time I've gone. Avoid the Parsnip and Cheddar sandwich. The spinach does not mesh at all with the rest of the sandwich, so you're left with one portion of a good sandwich buried in something that sucks away all the flavor. It's not inedible, but it's not good. Try their beer-battered onion rings if you ever get the chance - easily the best I've ever had. Coffee is excellent too, but be wary of some of the flavors they put out, especially if it mentions tea. On more than one occasional, I've tried the lighter of the two coffee choices, and found it to be just mediocre coffee made with tea instead of water. Not good. But! If you stick to the darker, heavier roasts, they're generally very good. Chickpea fritter is always good, every time I've gotten it. BBQ Seitan as well. I haven't tried the Egg & Eggplant myself, but my friend absolutely loved it. The lady who takes your order tends to entire order items or details like whether or not it's to-go or not. Ended up standing around waiting for a sandwich they never got the order to make, more than once.

Everything is local, fresh delicious vegetarian. The chickpea fritter sandwich and wild rice/cranberry/walnut side are my favorite. Really kind staff, great eco-friendly minimalist environment. I will be back every time I am in Boston!

There's nothing more stereotypical than a depressed writer. I don't often hear about the prevalence of depression in other artistic media, the depressed painter or sculptor or dancer isn't a trope. That may be that unlike other artists writers can't keep their traps shut: it is, of course, how they go about their craft, the formation of words. Similarly, there is a Godwinesque law that the longer a writer actively writes the probability of her writing about the act of writing -- whether as nonfiction or fiction, poetry or any other form -- approaches one. It's certainly so that artists in other media talk about their craft, but rarely do they implement their craft to depict their craft. Even Escher is just representing his craft, adequately outlining the impossibility. And who is most victim to accusations of such autological scratchings? Rare is the interpretation that a great painting is "about painting," but it is very often the case that an otherwise innocuous piece of writing will be interpretted as being about the act itself. So it's folly to avoid this genre as a writer, as I have attempted. And so I here engage it, at least on my own terms. Major depressive episodes permanently loom on my dysthemic horizon, so why not subject myself to the narcissism of autological writing, embrace my nature and my chosen art? Of course, it comes and goes; though my general mood has been sinking for some months I haven't had a major episode for some time. Acute, brief pangs can be alleviated by addressing a chemical imbalance: so often it's the case when I speak to my similarly severely depressed friend (she too a writer, though often far too depressed to produce) "when did you last eat?" is a common introductory refrain, alongside when it was we last went outside and how hydrated we are. Caffeine is also sometimes a palliative and it's with these twined goals in mind that I enter the Clover brick and mortar on Main Street. The coffee here is excellent. The rosemary fries the things of leged and indulgent enough to make me feel I have some handle on my own agency, even if just for a moment. The mood here too is also ebullient and I admit that it's difficult to feel depressed when surrounded by such positivity and good music, R&B and Motown lately. The staff is friendly and they make a show of endeavoring to remember my name, such is the frequency that I come here and, truly, the effort is more than enough. For however long I'm here as I my slow-drawn coffee cools and I munch on my mountain of fresh fries, I'm not depressed. I'm not happy either; I'm not anything. That's enough, in the middle of the day taking a break from a job that consistently causes me despair. And it's cheap enough for me to come back time and again.

The Harvard hipsters know what's up, Clover Food Labs offers great eats for relatively cheap. The ordering process is a little awkward, since it was taken by an 'order taker' who accosted me as I was staring at the menu, and the payment involved swiping my credit card through an iPod touch. The process is a little awkward/slow, but no big deal. Everyone on Yelp has been raving about the Chickpea fritters, so I knew that was what I was eating. While most people were ordering the sandwich, it looked a little messy with the yogurt sauce, so I opted for the platter, with a pita on the side. It worked out to be pretty much the same as getting a sandwich, but with 1.5x the amount of food, and eaten with a fork (like a lady). The chickpea fritters were like crispy mini falafels, drizzled with a light yoghurt sauce, placed a few types of (very) cold salads, served with a side of hummus. The dish was light, and refreshing, with the salads offering tart, but fresh flavours. To my surprise, the kumquat soda tasted surprisingly like real kumquats. Again, light and refreshing, the drink exceeded my expectations, even if they over did it a little with the ice On top of the good food, Clover food labs reads like a textbook company of the new millenium. Active social media, heavy on the 'corporate social responsibility', and regular community events. for their employees and customers.Their blog talks about organic, local foods, and their ability to be constantly evolving; When visiting Harvard or MIT, Clover is a must-visit, and if I'm ever in Cambridge again, I know where I'll be eating. wp.me/p4qTTI-18

Clover is great, the food is fresh and creative and the service is really fast. The people who work there are very friendly too. I'm a big fan of the ginger soda. One word of caution: when ordering bread (for an extra $1) with a platter, be sure to check that you have the bread before you walk off with your take out container. I've gotten back to my office to discover that the bread was forgotten and not inside the container as I assumed it would be. Will be more diligent in the future!

There's just something cool about seeing a small passionate group of food truckies make it big time and open a brick and mortar store. When combined with farmers, local produce, fresh toppings and herbs and a fun, spunky staff, it's a winner every time. The Chickpea fritter (see photo) is amazing. Just the right blend of happiness, heartiness and energy to get you through the rest of your day/shift whether at work, or walking around town.

Everything I've ever eaten here has been incredible, fresh and delicious. I highly recommend the bbq seitan sandwich, and I'm glad to see the increasing lunch options coming to Kendall Square. That said, I don't go here as often as I might otherwise because actually getting your food is always an adventure. I live in fear that I might have to order from the one woman who sings instead of talking to you. After you've ordered, you can either stand in the crowd/line with the people waiting to place their orders, or in a 6x2 space directly in front of the trash and the station with napkins and forks. There's no way not to be in everyone's way. And then your food comes from three different stations with no communication between them. I have seen a cook give someone's chickpea fritter to the next customer in line because the first customer didn't pick up his fritter quickly enough. I desperately want Clover to get their act together, because their food is so good!

I stopped here with a group of friends that had been here before. It's always nice to see a vegetarian restaurant but this place threw me off big time. The menu boards confused me first of all, they both say the same thing right next to each other. I got the BBQ sandwich which was pretty good but hard to eat in the weird packaging it comes in. The $2 drinks all taste like water, they skimp on the syrup/tea big time and charge you more if you want another pump of actual flavor. This is from someone who doesn't add the full amount when mixing powder drinks, I don't even add sugar to my smoothies so when I say that tea tasted like water it definitely did! I get there's supposed to be some kind of "vibe" here but when I can barely move the weird backless stools and have to get up to get everything I ordered separately, that's a problem. Also one overflowing trashcan? Really? Two stars because the sandwich was pretty good and the zucchini/cinnamon bites were surprisingly good.

I'm not a vegetarian, but I'm a pretty big fan of clover. The biggest draw for me is their breakfast food-- if I'm around Harvard square in the morning, I can't say no to the popover sandwich. The popover itself is like a yorkshire pudding, and the mix that they stuff it with compliments it perfectly. Clover also has great, robust flavored coffee, and is affordable as well.

  • Joy S.

Solid sandwiches that are filling and delicious. They really invested the time to make the chickpea fritter crispy on the outside and not dry like other falafels, and it makes a big difference! My favorites are the chickpea fritter and eggplant/egg sandwiches.

I had the chickpea fritter for lunch and it's very tasty and fresh. I love that everything on the menu is vegetarian. Good atmosphere and clean. For the first timer, it is hard to figure out what to get at first because the menu is unique and different depends on the season.

I wish this existed in San Francisco. I just happened to be visiting MIT and saw a crowd of people lining up so I figured it was good. Service was great, friendly. Food was amazing and very affordable. I like to think that because it's vegetarian it's slightly healthier than your usual fare. In any case please please please bring this to SF!!!

I remember not being super-impressed the first time I went to Clover (in Harvard Square). But since having the Kendall Square restaurant open, the more I go and the more I appreciate it for what it is. And now I'm a Clover loyalist. The brussels sprout sandwich and paneer ("Pushpir") sandwich are both amazing. The chickpea fritter, and the rosemary fries, are great too. Plus there are always little experiments and interesting food and drink offerings popping up. All vegetarian and entirely unique from what you can get anywhere else. And my meat-loving boyfriend loves the place. That's a good testimonial, no? It sure is nice to have a restaurant selling fast, fresh food in Kendall Square. While not all of it is health food, it is all *real* food. Take a look: cloverfoodlab.com/food . Because, seriously?! That is awesome.

Had the BBQ seitan plate today but paired it with a carrot salad they had offered. very hot kick after finishing, too much sauce and could use something more. maybe a green sauteed in there to give it ooomph. hibiscus tea was yummy, almost more like a beet juice, thats a win for me.

I was not a fan of Clover for the longest time because 1. it looks like it is full of hipsters, 2. I LOVE my meat, and 3. I had some of their signature staple sandwiches like chickpea fritters and it was at best a meh. Ever since they opened a store in Kendall Square, I've been stopping in to get their seasonal "experimental" sandwiches. And they are flavorful and amazing. Loved the Enzo and the Asian Eggplant. I'm usually a person who orders the same thing at a restaurant all the time once I find something I like, but trying the specials at Clover have not yet disappoint me. Bonus, if you don't like the last sandwich you tried, you can get the next one for free! Only downside: it is a bit pricey, and I'm often hungry only a few hours afterwards due to the lack of meat

  • Leigh C.

I am mixed on how to review this. The food is really, really good. The atmosphere is quite good. However, the business model where each individual food item comes out separately and no one is helping expedite is a really, really, really poor model. What happens is--you order 3 items and each item comes out 10-30 minutes later. Even if it is something simple like tomato cucumber salad which should only take scooping. All the meals are so similar it is perplexing at why this assembly is so difficult to do. The fact that each line cook assembles and hands it directly to the person also invariably slows down everything. As I said, the food is quite taste-y, but it it is irritating that this is so poorly run. All sites seem to suffer the same problem.

Food is delicious, specifically the chickpea fritter and the rosemary fries. However they really need a better way to do the fries. I typically get my sandwich in a few minutes and the fries take atleast 15.

Fantastic veggie food and a very reasonable price. I got BBQ SEITAN sandwich and it was probably one of the best I've ever eaten. The girl behind the counter was possibly the nicest person in the world. Offered me an option to try something I wasn't sure about getting (banana soda which was so amazing I ordered two). She was so friendly I would give this restaurant 5 stars based on her alone.

  • X P.

Have eaten here a few times and think it's overrated. Menu is limited and food is cold. Pricy like the rest of Cambridge. That being said the workers are generally nice, and the fact that it's 100% vegetarian is good too. Come after 3 pm when you can get the special, and there isn't a huge crowd of people. And spend an extra $1 to get the platter - it's worth it.
