I was so excited about this place because of all the great reviews, but I didn't read between the lines -- they are basically useless if you're vegetarian. Which is totally fine, but just wanted to get that out there for any of you other Central Square regulars looking for an alternative to the usual lunch spots.

Fantastic food from a quaint little restaurant. Wings and ribs were fantastic in all ways

I have been here a few times and really enjoyed it. The BBQ ribs and chicken are great. It's a family owned place with a small dining area with reasonable prices.

For what it is, Cambridge Deli does it best, and for that it deserves 4 stars. The owner is always there, and he exhibits the most extraordinary humble customer service, and total appreciation for the business. The prices are reasonable, and every day there is a special... always delicious and always an excellent value. The food is super tasty, large portions. Try the tuna melt... it's out of sight! The fries are also perfectly fried, and always topped with a delicious onion ring. Excellent for both dine-in and take out! My only complaint is that they are closed on the weekends... open up on Saturday, and I'd give 5 stars!!

Amazing! Best burger I have ever tried! Mushrooms grilled to perfection, onions caramelized to nirvana, and big, juicy smile on chef's face! Tabasco, grape fanta, fresh salads, and classy ketchup. Must visit!!! Best burgers in New England!

I really miss this place, I used to work the corner and came by for a quick bite during the week, service was always friendly and the staff was very accommodating. The chicken salad is so delicious, I think they make it from scratch right when you call, at least that is how fresh it is! I would definitely recommend this place for a quick bite, it is good for both the quality and the price.

Simple pleasures... Does a few things and does them well. The plates are quite large... Look forward to sample the rest of the wares.

Excellent food, extremely liberal portions and very friendly service. The BBQ chicken tip dinner is excellent - I wish I could try something different, but it's just too good to break away from just yet. If only they were open on the weekends, especially to accompany football on Sundays...a must-try for a quick meal!

Tuna Melt was pretty good on Rye. Fries sucked, but the onion rings were bomb!

Read all the rave reviews and decided to try this place out. Ordered the Cajun chicken po'boy like someone suggested. Oh. My. God. Awesome. Friendly staff, really reasonable prices. Delicious any time but I can see this being a great spot for hangover-curing food. I will definitely be back here!

If you ever wondered what great American food tastes like, this is the place. Visiting from California, I used yelp to find a place to eat. The ratings are true. Bomb ass food. I ordered the BBQ combo, came with ribs, steak, and chicken with fries, salad, and 2 onion rings thrown on top. I was stuffed! The owner/cashier/cook was super friendly. He makes the food right after you order. If you can order ahead, you won't have to wait.

Friendly and fast service. Good fast-food-like choices (sandwiches, fries, drinks). Priced accordingly.

Nondescript deli that has grilled items, fries, and sandwiches. My favorite is the BBQ baby back ribs--delish. I go in once in a blue moon, and the service is consistently friendly and warm. Orders can take some time because the guy makes it fresh, so maybe you can order in advance. Prices are reasonable.

so friendly and great service :)

If you are around Central Square and are hungering for a sandwich (or a bbq dinner for that matter), Dave (owner/chef) will take excellent care of you. I'm 2 for 2 here, both times I've left very satisfied. The guy deserves all the success in the world. This time we had a cajun fish po' boy and wing dings. Po boy was great - lots of seasoning, good sauce, fish cooked perfectly, and cole slaw adds a nice crunch in the middle. The wings were cooked perfectly - crispy and not greasy. Dave makes his own bbq sauce and it's a perfect compliment to a perfect wings. The one and only drawback would be that the wings themselves were on the small side. But that's really me trying to be hyper critical.

I had a sandwich, and it wasn't that great. I had a stomach ache afterwards. Moreover, the fish was NOT homemade, but pre-made, as were the fries, and onion rings. However, the kitchen looked nice, and so did the decorations. Very mediocre food, and a stomach upset on top of that.

What a little gem of a discovery this place is. It has a small, easy to miss, unassuming exterior. An even smaller dining area (can accommodate maybe all of 6 diners at a time). But the BBQ chicken is really good - the sauce is tasty, and the chicken is invariably juicy and tender every time. We sometimes get the tuna melt too - creamy, but quite good. The owner/chef and the guy that works with him both dress in professional kitchen garb (quite unexpectedly), and are always friendly and accommodating. Would definitely recommend.

Oh, Cambridge Deli and Grill! What would I do without you? This humble, unassuming establishment gets my nod for best sandwiches of Central Square. Dave, the chef/proprietor is a breath of fresh air. He does all the cooking (occasionally, someone else is there doing prep or dishes), and seems like he really cares about your meal. It took all of two visits for him to learn my usual. Upon walking in, I always get a "Hey man! Turkey?" Not since leaving the woods of Maine have I felt so welcomed and accepted into an eatery. Honestly, I havent ventured into the BBQ selection, since hot lunch isn't my thing, but everyone I've talked to there seems to enjoy it. My only complaint is that he isn't open on the weekends, but hey, guy's gotta rest.

When I'm at a loss for what to make for dinner, I go to Dave. He knows my favorites and even will make me an off-menu sandwich if I ask. I love that the one time I ordered a salad for dinner he put two onion rings on it so I wouldn't feel totally deprived. Also, the cajun fries are amazing. I wish the deli was open later than 8pm and on the weekends, but he runs this place from open to close (often by himself) and the man has to sleep sometime. Anyplace where you regularly find cops and firefighters eating must be fast, cheap, and good!! And it is.

The best of the best! I've had the privilege of having Cbridge Deli & Grill as my neighbor for years and years and not only is Dave (the owner) the best neighbor, but he also makes the best ribs around! Farrr better than Redbones every time! And Dave goes once a year to bbq in the south, bringing all his knowledge, talent, and wonderful personality here. Also this place is a local favorite! When the police station used to be in Central Square, this was the go to lunch place of the whole police force. I have since moved away to Porter Sq, but still try to come here as much as possible. I recommend this as the best local grill around to everyone! And make sure to say Hi to Dave! He is the nicest guy ever!

Not very good. Big fried food. Lots of barbecue flavoring. Too much bread. Too little flavor. Extremely small dining area.

A traditional family-run sub shop, with excellent grilled food. I've never before had fries that didn't even need ketchup. The inside is nicer than the sign out front might indicate, and even has A/C. Service is fast and very friendly. There's a tiny door that leads to an enclosed outdoor seating area. The outdoor area is furnished rather cheaply and has a gritty feel, but it is a nice bonus, is totally authentic New England, and makes me feel at home. Surprised this place isn't crowded with workers from Central Square at lunch.

The special combo is where it's at! Dave is always pleasant and happy to make your food however you want it. He makes a killer grilled buffalo chicken wrap too along with anything else on the menu! It's a must go to if you're in the central sq area

Owner on site always. Food is incredible!! Cheap too!! My co worker turned me onto this place. You WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!

HUGE menu for small place and everything there is delicious!

Cambridge Deli and Grill is like the faithful and sincere neighbor you can always rely on for advice. Think Mr. Feeny, or better yet, Wilson from Home Improvement. When things go awry during the day, Cambridge Deli will be there in the evening to get you back on track. Perhaps what I like most about my neighbor is that I always know what I'm going to get: consistency and friendliness. CD&G has a diverse but simple menu with your standard pizzas, subs, wraps, salads and the best chicken/steak/pulled pork dinner options in the Central Square area. For $10 you'll get a heap of tips lathered in your favorite sauce, a mound of rice or fries, a side salad, garlic bread, and a pair of complementary onion rings, nestled on top of this pile of happiness like two halos at the pearly gates. For the value and the friendly-small-business-feel, I'm always happy to give CD&G my business. I negate a star for relatively underwhelming pizza.

Don't be put off by it's rundown exterior-- this restaurant oozes homegrown warmth and old school, Cambridge character, which is rare since the gentification of the Central Square started back 10 years ago. Owned and opearted by Dave, who always greets you with a smile, and remembers that you like your BLT with "Hots" and pickles. You will find police officers, neighborhood folk, teenagers, office workers, and Cambridge hippies of all stripes chowing down to subs & snacks here at a ridiculously cheap prices. There's also an outdoor patio, but I've never eaten out there.

YES this place is amazing. Sandwiches, burgers, fries, BBQ -- they have it all. I have this place programmed into my phone simply as "sandwich guy." The super-nice owner even recognizes my voice on the phone (although maybe that's a sign I should eat in more). A definite must!
